They learn about it in the slowly bubbling, uncertain high of victory.

She died a hero, Clarisse says, repeats, convinces, closing Drew’s hands around a bracelet far too innocent to make everyone’s hearts sink with just a glance. Its silver colour is barely visible beneath the blood. Drew’s hands were already long slick with crimson. She doesn’t say anything.

(The daughter of Ares tells them the story as they pick up their other fallen siblings. Nobody responds)

Fuchsia with an apple for Anders, seventeen and the loveliest relationship advisor. Lacy only manages a few words through her sobs and tears, her hair still in the intricate but effective braid he had put it in before battle.

Coral with a conch shell for Khalid, twelve with a love for anything one could find at the bottom of the ocean. Valentina grips his stuffed anglerfish so tightly that she almost tears it while making her speech about him.

Salmon with a thorned rose for Ina, fifteen and the best fighter in the cabin. Mitchell can barely stand while talking, choked by having been unable to retrieve more of her than a gnarled arm, recognizable only through the heart-shaped birthmark spanning the back of her hand.

Magenta with a dove for Sawyer, fourteen with the kindest eyes in the world. Drew lays the sword they had never wanted in the fire and watches it melt into perfumed smoke without a word.

Cerise with flowering myrtle for Jasmin, sixteen and the craftiest painter around. Aminah bites her knuckles to the blood in a failed attempt not to cry when the burning paints colour the fire in impossible hues.

… Hot pink with an electric spear for Silena. Clarisse sets the fire with a blank face, dried tear tracks gouging grooves down her cheeks.

(A grief-stained title of cabin counsellor for Drew, fifteen with the weight of her world suddenly on her shoulders. Cabin Ten cannot keep her from turning her head high, eyeliner sharper than it’s been in years.)

It’s not Drew who orders all signs of Silena Beauregard to be scrubbed from the insides of Cabin Ten.

Instead, Mitchell passes through the cabin while the others haunt around Camp like the ghosts they had avoided becoming. Carefully, carefully, he folds up Silena’s fashionista posters, picks pictures of her off the clothing clips on the strings strung up throughout the cabin, strips her bed of the flower pillows they’d all collaborated to get for her last (final) birthday, collects clothes from her section of shelves and drawers, and packs everything with even a trace of her into the suitcase under his bed. Grief echoes off the bare spaces, sandalwood perfume soaking into the walls, a vestige of one of the many lives struck short these past several days.

His siblings don’t say anything when they finally come and find him curled up on Ina’s bed, clutching her morning star plush like it’s the only thing keeping him tethered to his body, the entire cabin missing key elements. Drew starts to get ready for bed, Aminah throws herself onto Jasmin’s bed and shatters, Lacy tears her hair free of Anders’s braid with a wail, and Valentina screams into Khalid’s pillows until her voice is hoarse. Mitchell swears he hears similar sounds from the other cabins.

(Rory comes the next day, backpack full of clothing designs he hadn’t bothered to unpack in his rush upon hearing about the strange happenings in New York. He takes one look at his siblings’ hollowed faces, at the bare beds, at the empty spaces, and breaks, begging for forgiveness for not being there to fight along their sides, for not protecting them like an older brother should, for working on his college projects while they fought and died for the world. Drew scoffs, lips perfectly painted, and says there’s a reason they didn’t tell him war was brewing over their last Iris Message. The others pile onto him, cursing and crying and trying to keep themselves from falling into pieces.)

Officially, Silena Beauregard is a hero. She had been burned with laurel wreaths, and offerings were tossed into the fire to aid her journey to Elysium. Her photo has been put up in the Big House alongside many others, and even Mr D managed not to butcher “Silena Beauregard” for once, prompted by a centaur kick. Her name is whispered under the topic of the ultimate sacrifice, of the power of love, of the bravery of unexpected leaders.

Unofficially, the only one who speaks her name with pure reverence is Clarisse La Rue, and no one says it with such vitriol as Drew Tanaka. Her spy bracelet, still drenched in blood, has been hurled against a wall and remains hidden and gathering dust under her bed. Her cabin has been scrubbed clean of any mentions of her, her name unspoken in fear of Drew’s newfound cruelty.

(Drew builds back up the walls her siblings had dismantled with so much care, taller and thicker than ever before.)

(Mitchell retreats back into himself, the skittishness he had worked so hard to shed shrouding him in full force once again.)

(Lacy melts into the crowd like never before, burying her voice beneath a blanket of sorrow.)

(Valentina ditches her soft colours and loose wardrobe, forcing attention onto her new tastefully torn jeans and bold shades and away from her wail-wrecked throat.)

(Aminah tugs her grief tight around herself and leaves with the summer, her goodbye lacking a definitive “see you later”.)

Two boys, adorned in pearls and guided by geese, arrive in a cabin full but hollow, plagued by dead siblings and a traitorous hero. Twins, they are, nine years old and unknowing of the carnage of war, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. Drew scoffs and scolds but leaves them to her remaining siblings, for her sharp tongue has never been suited for introductions, and even in the wake of her death-stained rule, she will not dare shut children down so soon after arrival.

Names of all the ghosts haunting the cabin become unspoken, none willing to explain them and blemish the twins’ innocence.

It does not work.

Not when Lev walks in on Lacy sorting and resorting dozens of vials of perfumes with shaking hands and trembling breaths. Not when Ren asks Valentina about the night sky painted on the wall over an empty bed and she shuts down entirely for the rest of the day. Not when Lev holds up a mirror to help Mitchel neaten up the impulsive haircut he had given himself after a game of Capture the Flag. Not when Ren catches Drew in a screaming match with another camper over a girl he had never heard about.

Not when something weighs heavily over the empty spaces in the cabin, over the necks of their newfound siblings.

So they ask someone else.

Clarisse La Rue. Will Solace. Connor Stoll. Nyssa Barrera. Malcolm Pace.

Slowly, slowly, they collect pieces, find ways to fit them together, compare conflicting accounts. They get the story of clashing metal, raging fire, slithering scales. A frightful fairytale, starring their fellow campers as the main characters. The missing limbs, the overabundance of scars, the paranoid glances — it all clicks together, and the uncomfortable hollowness of Camp Half-Blood is suddenly apparent.

(Eventually, they ask about their own Cabin’s side of the story.)

(They receive no answer beyond solemn looks and half-hearted shrugs.)

Piper McLean falls from the sky, crashing straight through the fragile roof of the system Cabin Ten has established for itself the moment she bursts with pink light.

She is… argumentative. Unwilling to cram herself into the tattered tapestry of their Cabin the war had left behind. Determined to be different, to stand out, to raise her hackles at those around her. Filled with an anger towards the paints and ruffles her siblings wrap themselves in, and unconcerned with not letting it spill over and burn them.

She challenges Drew, and they cheer.

(Will the sister-that-never-left finally come back to them?)

Drew scoffs and huffs, sharpens her nails on the sound of Piper’s voice, but does not fight.

(They have fought for so long, and she is tired, and maybe an older kid with none of the wounds that mar the rest of them is needed in Cabin Ten.)

(Within a month, Drew wrenches permission for them to leave Camp for a shopping trip out of Chiron, and they know she is coming back.)

YEAHHH!!!!

The curse of Cabin Ten, as opposed to Cabin Seven, affects all of them. It was a curse inflicted by Nemesis when she got tired of Aphrodite flaunting her love life, how many people she'd gotten to fall in love with her, a trait her children shared, so she cursed the cabin.

In The Lost Hero, we learn about the Aphrodite Rite of Passage.

“The rite of passage for an Aphrodite child,” one explained. “You get someone to fall in love with you. Then you break their heart. Dump them. Once you do that, you’ve proven yourself worthy of Aphrodite.”

Playing on the Rite of Passage, if a child of Aphrodite has someone fall in love with them and then doesn't break their heart, that person will die.

Take Charles Beckendorf for example, we're told that Silena refused to complete the Rite of Passage.

“Forget it!” Piper yelled, a little louder than she’d intended. The other kids backed away. “I’m not breaking somebody’s heart just for a stupid rite of passage!” Which of course gave Drew a chance to take back control. “Well, there you go!” she cut in. “Silena said the same thing. She broke the tradition, fell in love with that Beckendorf boy, and stayed in love. If you ask me, that’s why things ended tragically for her.”

And Beckendorf died. So did Silena, but her death doesn't play into the curse.

We could also tie in Piper and Jason, although Jason died after Piper broke up with him. But the key part of their break up? Piper didn't break up with him for the Rite of Passage, therefore she never completed it.

Also, if a curse is cast a while ago, the exact way it affects the cabin may get lost in translation. In canon the Rite of Passage is to make someone fall in love with you and break their heart, but if we tie in Jason and Piper, we can twist the curse into having to break the heart of someone you've fallen in love with or else they die.

Silena was in love with Charles, she didn't break his heart, he died. Piper was in love with Jason, she didn't break up with him with the intention to break his heart, he died.

This could also explain why Drew is so adamant about her siblings completing the Rite of Passage, no? We don't know how long she's been at camp, but if shes the oldest after Silena we can figure shes been there a decent amount of time, watched sibling after sibling lose and grieve their partner because they didn't complete the passage.

Give me the Aphrodite kids that hide daggers in their hairbrushes, whose perfectly manicured French-tipped nails show no sign of the poison in the polish, with mascara that helps them see through the Mist more easily, with leather jackets that are stylish and give better protection than other tops.

Magical makeup.

Weapons that hide as bracelets, necklaces, earrings, hair clips.

Kids that know they’re beautiful, and know that people will underestimate them because of it.

Ones that will send a brilliant, perfect smile at you to distract you while their partner drives a knife into your back.

Ones that can flirt their way out of any situation, and that know exactly what to say.

Ones that can take one look at you and figure out every emotional weakness you have and have no qualms in ripping through them all to get what they want.

Ones that took “All’s fair in love and war” and ran with it.

Ones that know that, as much as love can be amazing and incredible, love can also be heartbreaking and terrible and soul-wrenching.

Ones that are just as dangerous, if not more, than the Area and Athena and Big Three kids - because those others can kill you, but they can make you wish you had never lived in the first place.

Just. Dangerous Aphrodite kids.

My headcanons of Clovis x Child of Aphrodite

*CoA (child of Aphrodite, any gender but in this case mostly female)

-these are also a few fanfic ideas that I have

Took a while for Clovis to accept the fact a CoA likes him and for him to acknowledge his own feelings for them (Nico and a few other campers: Pollux, Stroll brothers, and (anyone else) who are close with Clovis and maybe even a particular wine god encouraged Clovis to give dating a try)

Clovis originally wanted to keep the relationship a secret to prevent any potential bullying that may occur to the child of Aphrodite-it didn’t work since CoA wanted to show how serious they were in trying to pursue a relationship with him and felt that Clovis didn’t think they meant it when they asked to date (they were also upset ~rightfully so)

Sometimes when they want affection or a kiss from Clovis, they would ask him in French; flirt with each other in french (if you’re lucky enough, you might see a bashful child of Aphrodite-very rare)

Clovis is passionate and good kisser but he’s always hesitant on making the first move

They took time to learn and make a quilt (night sky theme) from Athena's cabin for Clovis (he treasures it a lot and refuses to let anyone else touch it)

Sometimes they experience emotions that’s not very expected of a child of Aphrodite such as …

Jealousy ,they can get extremely jealous around those that Clovis seems close to or those that Clovis has an easier time to fall asleep on the person’s shoulder /snuggle close to which sometimes they forced Clovis to do a bit of PDA in front of that person~Clovis is a little uncomfortable with PDA as he’s still kinda new to the dating life (Clovis got jealous once and according to that CoA it was “the most hottest thing” they’ve ever seen/ experienced out of all their past relationship -sometimes they often dream about the event to relive the moment)

Insecurity , they heard rumors that Drew and Clovis may had a thing in the past but no one’s really sure and they feel that they’re not pretty as Drew or whatever they do it’s either not good enough (sometimes they feel that way with Clovis’s close friends or the fact others expect them to fit the stereotypes of being an Aphrodite child)

Have gotten frustrated on what to wear because they really want Clovis to like them or get a few more seconds of his attention before he falls asleep (Clovis himself has sometimes worry that their dates might not go as well or he’s not doing enough)

Sometimes they wear something warm and fluffy at the camp fire (which they have noticed that Clovis is more likely to cuddle and sleep on them; can lead to a bit of competition with some of Clovis’s friends who are cold all the time and use him as a heater)

Have used tears to get their way of things (I feel like Clovis is a bit of a people pleaser and hates to see people upset or cry which he can give in most of the time)

Have used charm speak into getting Clovis to do what they want~usually more attention or affection (once they took it too far with charm speaking and they never wanted to put Clovis into that position or feeling again after they realized they took it too far)

Clovis has set up little gifts or surprises ahead of time with some help from other campers to hopefully make the child of Aphrodite happy or feel appreciated-it’s sometimes something that they’ve been eyeing on for awhile

Clovis lets them steal a few of his favorite hoodies if that means that they won’t take his pillows when he wants to take a quick nap

Have used Clovis as an excuse to skip camp activities or cabin tasks because how can they do anything if poor Clovis won’t let them go while he’s sleeping and holding them 😏😏😏

Have made false claims of nightmares or bad dreams just to get some dream dates with Clovis or even spend time with him (they secretly enjoying how he fusses and worries about the nightmares that are affecting them from good quality of sleep/sleeping)

They do push Clovis out of his comfort zone and sometimes drag him to do little errands or places that they enjoy (shopping, beaches, sometimes at their friends’-their friends grew to like Clovis)

Clovis can pick out pretty cute outfits for them if he’s gotten enough sleep and have surprised other children of Aphrodite where his make up skills are a lot better than theirs (only because he does occasionally run into famous makeup artists’ dreams and memories-he does pick up a few tips and tricks which he does help some campers learn if they have the patience with him but also to prevent all the children of Aphrodite from waking him up and having him do all their makeup~boy needs and loves his sleep; he will only make an exception to the one he’s dating which can lead to fights with their siblings about how unfair it is that Clovis only did their makeup but not theirs )

Other campers have learned to respect him as they know it’s not easy to date a child of Aphrodite but also there was a time Clovis left camp without telling Chiron to go to his mom’s place out of spite since he wasn’t getting enough sleep due to everyone kept him up for a week or so for personal reasons as well as a few pranks and he was at his limit~lasted 3-4 days since everyone’s sleep schedule was affected (Ares cabin and Nico were the ones who dragged him back to camp after they found where he went and tried to get him back by asking him nicely several times through iris messaging but it came to a point that they couldn’t wait any longer)

Chiron kinda put Clovis in house arrest (more in Clovis’s favor) as a punishment and had him spend more time with the CoA that he’s dating to reverse the domino effects that Clovis had “unintentionally” put the camp through (Clovis knew what he was doing when he left but things went mostly back to normal-less bullying on Clovis as the other children of Aphrodite made sure of that; Ares cabin also makes sure Clovis is where he’s supposed to be cause 1. He’s their fav go to person when it comes to nightmares, 2. He gives great massages when he needs them to relax to process their bad dreams, 3. They claimed the only reason why they brought back Clovis is because they “can’t perform” well on low sleep, but really they secretly view Clovis as their own)

Campers and staff weren’t able to get good quality of sleep since it was a hassle to comfort an upset CoA who affected other people’s beauty sleep which lead to conflicts for other campers in relationships (kinda like a domino effect), the other children of Hypnos weren’t fully paying attention to Clovis in their dreamscape lessons when he was trying to teach them proper bed care manners while helping those with bad dreams and traumatic ones as well as dealing with more challenging sleep paralysis demons, and Will didn’t want to get his therapist role back because that means less time with Nico which Nico would not be happy and is still a bit mad when Will had to step in for a bit while others were looking for Clovis

Clovis once fractured his neck and both his arms (long story) and they (CoA) had an enjoyable time spoon feeding him or hand feeding~they still do it after Clovis is all healed up and says that they don’t need to, but they want to cause Clovis is just too cute and precious to them (Clovis loves it tho but sometimes feels embarrassed; the Stroll brothers have teased him about it and called him a little baby dreamboat whenever he’s being feed by hand)

They had an argument with Mitchell only because Mitchell is worried that his friendship with Clovis might be affected with the fact Clovis is dating one of his siblings (plus Mitchell was Clovis’s friend first) and fears that his progress of getting Clovis to put more effort in his self appearance and have better self esteem might be undone

Dionysus unexpectedly gets involved in this whole relationship stuff (has to act as a mediator) because there was a huge argument between them (CoA) and Pollux (as well as a few of Clovis’s other friends) about the amount time Clovis spends with each one (Dionysus reluctantly picked up this role only because he secretly really appreciates how Clovis has helped Pollux a lot from the ptsd of losing his brother as well as other trauma from war and doesn’t want Pollux to spiral; Dionysus also sees bits of Castor in Clovis)

i think aphrodite kids would have physical like, embellishments? that are somehow related to aphrodite

piper - a single heart mole on her chin (idea based off my own mole there <3)

drew - a scallop shell on her collarbone (it's simple, kind of resembling a tattoo)

silena - a dove on her upper arm (like drew's, it's simple & resembles a tattoo)

lacey - a small pearl near her wrist (looks like a circle, but its as shiny as a real pearl)

valentina - a golden apple imprint on her torso (probably the side of her stomach)

mitchell - a mirror emblem sort of diagnol to his knee (basically a fancy mirror outline)

ive only listed the named ones, but there's still 9 daughters and 4 sons of aphrodite - all of who i want to expand on both character and physical wise :3

Side Character Interactions / Behind The Scenes of Camp Half-Blood

• Will is friends/acquaintances with pretty much the entirety of camp, but is closest to Cecil and Lou Ellen. The next in the circle is Clarisse, Castor (before the BotL), and Mark (the son of Ares).

• The Hermes Cabin is the place to go for year-rounders to get "out-of-camp" items. (Fidget spinners, mortal toys, etc)

• There is a "secret" betting pool that the Aphrodite cabin has going on when campers and their mutual crushes will get together. (Percabeth (canonically), etc)

• Clarisse helped train Will in using a dagger before the Battle of Manhatten at his request due to him not feeling like he was as good with a bow + being a combat medic.

Connor to Will before he is claimed: Don't worry, we will teach you all you need to know about being a Hermes kid

Lee, walking up behind them from a long infirmary shift: Absolutely not. Will, how about you come with me and we can get some hot chocolate?

Clarisse: That has got to be the dumbest thing I've heard all day!

Silena: Clarisse, please calm down...it's only breakfast, there's still plenty of time.

Mitchell: What the Hades is going on in here?

My hcs of Clovis x Child of Aphrodite Pt.2

*reminder: CoA (child of Aphrodite, any gender but in this case mostly female)

*** TRIGGER WARNING: mentions of SA on bullets 8-11***

Love languages: Clovis’s is acts of services (based off the impression I get from the series) and the CoA’s are words of affirmation and quality time. Both have a common love language of physical touch (Clovis gets anxious when it comes to physical touch because he’s not sure if he’s holding their hand or doing anything affectionate right except hugs and snuggling- he feels confident in that, CoA is nervous because they don’t want to make Clovis feel rushed or really uncomfortable. It took them 3 weeks to hold hands when they started dating).

Clovis did find a way to put CoA to sleep through kisses (foreheads mostly) but only does it to avoid arguments or certain topics which he rarely does

CoA can adjust their height be around Clovis’s height or a head taller than him depending on their mood/outfit (including shoes), imo I don’t think Clovis really cares but if someone does point it out that the COA is taller. He puts his hand on their hip and pulls them closer to him and goes “I know and they’re all mine!”

Clovis is always prepared and does miraculously know what to do to get them comfortable if they’re sick or have period cramps/body aches without needing to be asked~ sometimes what Clovis does is a lot better than what the CoA expects.

Both get along really well with each other’s family outside of camp (CoA is best friends with Clovis’s mom who does teach her how to tell how Clovis is feeling if he’s being a distant; CoA’s dad views Clovis as one of his and does occasionally help Clovis out if CoA is being a little toxic-I feel that their start of/parts of the relationship does get a little abusive/ one sided from an outsider’s pov but also both are dating someone that’s different from their personalities

They do get along with Clovis’ paternal half siblings at camp who have helped them learn more about Clovis in exchange for other favors involving their (Clovis’ siblings’) personal dating lives but also they just wanted Clovis to get into a relationship so they can easily bend some of the rules for their own relationship benefits without Clovis lecturing them the importance of privacy and boundaries esp when the Hypnos kids have full control of themselves in the dreamscape world as well as teaching them how to use their powers in the dreamscape world (Clovis may seem chill all the time, but when it comes to teaching his siblings about their powers, he’s a bit strict only because he really cares about them and doesn’t want them to get themselves into trouble)

Both Clovis and CoA took time to learn more about each other through each other’s mortal parent: CoA learned Clovis’s fav baked good and which foods triggers him to sleep~narcolepsy and Clovis learned their fav drink order, favorite authors, and their favorite materials to use when making their own bags~which many assume it was a customized purchase, not handmade (I like to think that before Clovis and CoA made it official, both their mortal parents shipped them after a traumatic experience-outside of camp (long story).

The reason why the CoA got interested in Clovis is because he saved them from an attempt SA attack from their “then” boyfriend who wouldn’t take no for an answer (Clovis had to fully body cover them). Clovis had a few bad bruises while CoA had a few scratches and this is where his fractures come in and hand feeding-this event occurred near the end of the school year to the start of summer, I also like to think this is where Clovis is a seasonal camper instead of full year round/if he is a year round, then this is one of the few weeks of each month that Clovis visits his mom and coincidentally ran into CoA being attacked.

They (CoA) felt extremely guilty and worried for Clovis , who told them it was no big deal and it’s not their fault. Clovis also secretly took vengeance for CoA, their “then” bf got punished in court (they appeared court looking really awful like weeks without sleep due some “gruesome nightmares”) and court gave CoA a restraining order against their ex.

CoA and Clovis started hanging around each other’s place before camp because Clovis needed a bit of help getting around with some upper extremity limitations and CoA needed to be reassured that Clovis was still okay and felt that helping Clovis out made them feel less guily and better plus they just felt really safe with Clovis after what happened (CoA’s dad is really grateful for Clovis’s actions and occasionally allows Clovis to sleep over on the couch since his presence does help CoA sleep better-sometimes CoA sneaks in hugs/snuggles just to help with the reoccurring nightmares of the trauma, and at camp sometimes Clovis and CoA meet in the dreamworld when CoA needs someone to talk to as well as helping them process the traumatic experience; post trauma after healing- they just wanted Clovis’ company).

Chiron was informed by both Clovis’ and CoA’s parents of what happened and made sure that CoA is well supported (even their maternal half siblings at camp were very supportive and shocked that Clovis was the one who saved her, but had a whole new level of respect for him). Clovis was more grateful that he could stay in his bed and sleep a bit longer, but still had to have someone from Apollo’s cabin to check his healing progress (Half the Apollo’s cabin weren’t surprise when they got together due to CoA pestering them multiple times to check if Clovis is okay).

When Clovis was in the infirmary for a couple of weeks before he was allowed to just heal at his own cabin, he always had the privacy curtains drawn before the CoA could feed him~which they hated with a burning passion but also decided to put up with it if it that’s what makes Clovis feel at ease (Clovis was mainly doing it thinking that he was doing the CoA a favor for their reputation but it actually made the CoA feel like they have to be keep their friendship a secret and feel that Clovis might be a little embarrass about them )

Before they got together, Clovis had the CoA really think about the relationship and if they really did like him or it was just his actions that they like (trauma bonding) and he told them that no matter what the decision, they make, he will always support them.

Clovis did manipulate the CoA’s dreams once to consider other people to date/encouraged the CoA to try to date other people in concerns that their feelings for him might’ve only been temporary but that backfired horribly- Clovis never did that again (he thought he was doing it in the best interests of CoA but instead the next day he got requests from Mitchell and half of the Aphrodite Cabin to fix it ~CoA refused to sleep for a few nights which ofc affected the other children of Aphrodite from getting good sleep)

*saw this from an ig post (link below if curious) and felt inspired to have CoA who likes to adjust their height to be taller than their normal height plus I just felt like it’s something Clovis and a CoA would wear
