My “Dream” rifle build

This is going to be a 2 part post. Part 1 I am going to explain the entire build and what all is on the rifle. Part 2 will be after I get some time on the gun and get a decent amount of rounds through it. So I guess I’ll just start with a complete parts list break down.

Receiver set - Geissele super duty set in odg

Handguard - Geissele MK16 13.5” odg

Buffer/tube - Geissele odg tube w/ super42 & H2

Stock - B5 sopmod bravo odg

Castle nut - forward controls design odg

Grip - B5 type 22 p grip odg

Lower parts kit - Geissele ultra duty

So with a build list like that this should be a pretty damn good rifle. I’m not sure if I’d consider it a “dream” build or more of a I wanted to build a really nice rifle this year type of build. I love the 50 shades of green look the rifle has with all the different green anodized parts on it. At the time of writing this I just placed the order through brownells for the modlite setup. All that will be left after that is the odg eotech xps2. My original plan was to use the forward controls single or double dimple ejection port cover in odg but trying to find one of those is equivalent to trying to find Sasquatch. In the meantime I am planning on grabbing a odg magpul cover when I place my next brownells order. That should do just fine until I can get a fcd one.

Overall I am extremely happy with how this has turned out and I am beyond excited to get it finished and head right out back to the range to send some rounds through it. In part 2 of this I will cover my first thoughts of the rifle, give you some overall weight with everything on it, and let you know my thoughts after putting some rounds through it. My Brownells brn180 and why I think you need one.

Obviously with a sentence like that you can tell that I really like my brn180 rifle. This post is going to be a overview of how I have my 180 setup and the pros and cons to the brn180 rifles.

First I’ll start out by giving you a complete breakdown of my rifle.

For magazines I tend to run various metal mags from brownells,duramag, and d&h.

Let’s get the cons out of the way first since there aren’t that many in my opinion. First is the price, as I’m typing this the same 16” upper is on sale right now for 879. The non sale price is 969, luckily you can find these on sale fairly regularly. That is a pretty steep price for a lot of people to justify buying one. I know it was for me when I got mine but I am very glad I did.

Second is going to be the barrel length selection. I understand why they have the barrel lengths that they do but at the same time it seems like everyone that owns a rifle of any kind has a certain barrel length that they like for a certain reason.

Third is going to be the weight. Again I understand with the brn180 being a short stroke gas piston operated upper it’s going to be a little front heavy and there’s nothing that can really be done about it.

The biggest gripe I have about my particular brn180 is the lack of a dust cover. It’s my fault I didn’t realize it when I ordered mine that I had ordered the brn180 sport. So make sure you pay attention to make sure you order the correct one.

Now that the cons are out of the way we can get into the reasons why this has became one of my absolute favorite rifles to shoot.

First of all as we all know any gun that folds is ten times cooler than if it didn’t fold. When running a 16” upper being able to fold that stock makes transporting in backpacks or even storing it folded to save room in your safe.

Second the ar18/ar180 action is very very smooth. It’s a very soft and manageable recoil impulse that makes follow up shots extremely easy.

I like that pretty much all your standard ar15 lower parts will work with the exception of some grips. As you can see in the pictures if you run the retro style lower then you’ll need to run a grip without a beaver tail or you’ll need to modify the grip.

The upper comes with a easy to use adjustable gas system so if you want to throw a suppressor on it’s as easy as turning a dial to switch from unsuppressed to suppressed.

So like I said in the beginning, I really enjoy my brn180 rifle and I plan on doing a 10.5” pistol version here in the near future. These are very cool guns and if you are thinking about getting into one I highly recommend it.

Bratislavská bludička

Will-'o-the-wisp of Bratislava is one of my all time favorites written by Lenona Štiblaríková. Urban fantasy with slavic mythology (like. Bludička. Vodník. Upíri. Kostej. Poludnica. like. Hello??), great mother-daughters relationship, an unromanticized friendship between a man and a woman, bit of a romance, bit of adventure and a fukton of humor. It's very easy to read, you won't be able to put it down. I like to call this kind of book a "book in swimsuit" - underdressed for most occasions but perfect for holidays (or any other day). It's a rather heartwarming read, sprinkled with perly ducha - pearls of spirit (something really funny, not an in-joke, but more like iconic quote or a phrase. Napr. this exchange from movie Pacho, hybský zbojník:

- Daj sem bičík! (Give me (here) the whip!)

- Nedám bičík! (I won't give away the whip!)

- Daj sem bičík!!

- Riť Paľovu! (lit. Paul's ass; Not in a world and you can kiss my behind while you're on the way)). I recommend it if you can speak a bit or understand (Slováci a Česi, prudko odporúčam, zaštíte sa. Východniarske perpetuum mobile? "Vypi, bo naľato, naľej bo vypito...").

From the cover (excuse my translation. I tried. I died. Hope it was worth it.) :

"Will-'o-the-wisp Malvína works in Bratislava as a tourist guide. She tangles the ways of uncomfortable customers and similarly gets rid of annoying passers-by. Sometimes she uses the services of taxidriver and [as my sis has called him] emo-mage (emotion-mage) Alexander and drops by a café called 'Pod Lipou' (Under the Lime-tree), whose owner, Branislav, has sold his soul for the formula for the best coffee in the world. She tries to keep both of her friends away from Serb Zlatko Zebić, owner of the cruise ship Damijana, anchored on Danube.

The world of magical beings - The Others - set in the present-day Bratislava catches the attention of reader from the first page to the last, not only by the story but also by humor so typical for Lenona Štiblaríková, a bit cynical, a bit sarcastic but always above the situation.

It's no surprise that the author impressed the judges of Karel Čapek's Prize 2013 so much, that she had won with ease in category 'nouvelle' and became the absolute winner of the competition and the prize-winner of the prestigious Mlok award.

Similarly, the story (counte) "Dříme na loži z měděných drátů..." (She slumbers on a bed of copper wires....) by Tereza Matoušková, put in the second part of the publication can be proud of the most precious laurel-wreath, first place in the competition "Sieň ohňa - Draci, vlci a bájne tvory" (Hall of Fire - Dragons, wolfs and mythical creatures) held at Slavcon 2014. Scifi from a planet on which ended not only garbage but also 'uncomfortable' people, offers a story of hope, that can be born even in a hopeless world. "
