Another anecdote from "Story of a Soul"!

St. Thérèse of Lisieux cartoons all October!

JOKE-OGRAPHY: 1. This cartoon is based directly on a passage from "Story of a Soul", St. Thérèse's autobiography.  In this part, she recalls late walks home from her uncle's house with her father.  The text of the cartoon is lightly paraphrased, but I feel maintains the same sentiment as in the book. 2. Some of you may already know this, but both of St. Thérèse's parents are also saints: Sts. Louis Martin and Marie-Azélie Guérin.  They were canonized fairly recently (2015), and they're the first and (so far) only couple to ever be canonized together.  Interestingly, before they met, they each tried and failed to enter religious life.  Despite that failure, they passed their religious devotion onto their five surviving daughters, who all ended up becoming nuns. 3. Not to get all mushy, but I find this stargazing anecdote especially moving.  It's a perfect metaphor for how these parents accepted their earthly devotions, freeing their children to throw their heads back and seek the divine.

Another quote from "Story of a Soul"!

And so ends our little October of the Little Flower... but St. Thérèse will return!

JOKE-OGRAPHY: This cartoon is based, one more time, on a passage from "Story of a Soul", St. Thérèse's autobiography.  In the book, Thérèse responds to her father by saying that, if he entered politics, he'd be made king, but be miserable, so she's glad he doesn't.  In the cartoon, I've used those same lines but made it seem like she's debating with herself.  Holding one opinion very strongly, then talking yourself into the opposite opinion, is larious of the absolute HIGHEST order.  HIGH-larious.

I love the idea of him snooping around the house just to learn the little things about her. Her favourite scents, her preferred brands of everyday itens, her perfume, her bookshelf, having a snack while he reads her diary life the most valuable piece of literature

Oh my god a diary yesssss! He sits in her kitchen reading her diary and sipping a glass of wine from the bottle she was drinking out of for dinner earlier. All while she’s snoozing in bed and has to be up early for work (just like him of course but he’s more motivated to read her diary than sleep).

And he’d absolutely know her favorite things… that’s why when she’d have treats on her desk at work they were exactly what she loved so she just assumed it was her boyfriend 🤭 But of course her boyfriend was never thoughtful enough to give her those kinds of things, nor would he even know her favorite brand of gummies or what her favorite flowers are 😂
