The Ancient Egyptians believed the soul had three parts, the Ka, the Ba, and the Akh. The Ba was essentially a person’s double, a life force, and at death it was separated from the body. I thought it would be cool if the Ba birds were dead members of the EN9 (Khenti's archeology agency) who work as messenger birds or eyes from the skies! 🐦

“the chancellor of the king of Lower Egypt, the sole friend, the great superintendent Khenti-Kheti.” Khenti-kheti (also spelt Chenti-cheti), was a crocodile-god, though he was later represented as a falcon-god. His name means "foremost retreater". At earlier times, he was the crocodile god of the region called Athribis in Lower Egypt. This is why, in Egyptian history, he has often been associated with Sebek and is said to be The Owner of Athribis. However, during the New Kingdom, he was shown to be related to Horus and was shaped like a hawk. At that time his name was Horas Khenti-Kheti. He could take the form of a giant black bull, named Kemwer. He was later replaced by Osiris, also known as "Osiris, who lived in Athribis". He may have vaguely contributed to creation in some way. He could be the God of Indecisiveness.

Funerary papyrus of the scribe Djehutymes
Third Intermediate Period, 21st Dynasty, ca. 1069-945 BC. Now in the Egyptian Museum of Turin. Cat. 1781
In ancient Egypt, jackals and dogs were very common in the land between desert and urban areas, so they were associated with the world of necropolis and the dead. Specifically, their wandering among the tombs was interpreted as a perpetual guard service to the deceased.
The black jackal lent its features to different gods: Anubis, Wepwawet, Khenti-Amentiu and others, but there was a particular category of jackals in the divine sphere that were known as sTAw: they were the canids that pulled the solar boat during the night.

Anubis is the god of death(psychopomp), mummification, embalming, the afterlife, cemeteries, tombs, and the Underworld, in ancient Egyptian religion, usually depicted as a canine or a man with a canine head.
Like many ancient Egyptian deities, Anubis assumed different roles in various contexts. Depicted as a protector of graves as early as the First Dynasty (c. 3100 – c. 2890 BC), Anubis was also an embalmer. By the Middle Kingdom (c. 2055–1650 BC) he was replaced by Osiris in his role as lord of the underworld. One of his prominent roles was as a god who ushered souls into the afterlife. He attended the weighing scale during the "Weighing of the Heart", in which it was determined whether a soul would be allowed to enter the realm of the dead. Anubis is one of the most frequently depicted and mentioned gods in the Egyptian pantheon, however, no relevant myth involved him.
Anubis was depicted in black, a color that symbolized regeneration, life, the soil of the Nile River, and the discoloration of the corpse after embalming. Anubis is associated with his brother Wepwawet, another Egyptian god portrayed with a dog's head or in canine form, but with grey or white fur. Historians assume that the two figures were eventually combined. Anubis' female counterpart is Anput. His daughter is the serpent goddess Kebechet.
Roles
Embalmer
As jmy-wt (Imiut or the Imiut fetish) "He who is in the place of embalming", Anubis was associated with mummification. He was also called ḫnty zḥ-nṯr "He who presides over the god's booth", in which "booth" could refer either to the place where embalming was carried out or the pharaoh's burial chamber.
In the Osiris myth, Anubis helped Isis to embalm Osiris. Indeed, when the Osiris myth emerged, it was said that after Osiris had been killed by Set, Osiris's organs were given to Anubis as a gift. With this connection, Anubis became the patron god of embalmers; during the rites of mummification, illustrations from the Book of the Dead often show a wolf-mask-wearing priest supporting the upright mummy.
Protector of tombs
Anubis was a protector of graves and cemeteries. Several epithets attached to his name in Egyptian texts and inscriptions referred to that role. Khenty-Amentiu, which means "foremost of the westerners" and was also the name of a different canine funerary god, alluded to his protecting function because the dead were usually buried on the west bank of the Nile.He took other names in connection with his funerary role, such as tpy-ḏw.f (Tepy-djuef) "He who is upon his mountain" (i.e. keeping guard over tombs from above) and nb-t3-ḏsr (Neb-ta-djeser) "Lord of the sacred land", which designates him as a god of the desert necropolis.
The Jumilhac papyrus recounts another tale where Anubis protected the body of Osiris from Set. Set attempted to attack the body of Osiris by transforming himself into a leopard. Anubis stopped and subdued Set, however, and he branded Set's skin with a hot iron rod. Anubis then flayed Set and wore his skin as a warning against bad people who would desecrate the tombs of the dead.Priests who attended to the dead wore leopard skin in order to commemorate Anubis' victory over Set. The legend of Anubis branding the hide of Set in leopard form was used to explain how the leopard got its spots.
Most ancient tombs had prayers to Anubis carved on them.
Weigher of Hearts
One of the roles of Anubis was as the "Guardian of the Scales."The critical scene depicting the weighing of the heart, in the Book of the Dead, shows Anubis performing a measurement that determined whether the person was worthy of entering the realm of the dead (the underworld, known as Duat). By weighing the heart of a deceased person against Ma'at (or "truth"), who was often represented as an ostrich feather, Anubis dictated the fate of souls. Souls heavier than a feather would be devoured by Ammit, and souls lighter than a feather would ascend to a heavenly existence.

Anput
Symbols:jackal, canopic jars, mummy gauze
Consort:Anubis
Offspring:Kebechet
Anput is a goddess in ancient Egyptian religion. Her name is written in hieroglyphs as jnpwt (reconstructed in Middle Egyptian as /ʔan.ˈpa.wat/ or /jan.ˈpa.wat/).In English, her name also is rendered as Anupet, Input, Inpewt, and Yineput. As the female counterpart of her husband, Anubis, who was known as jnpw to the Egyptians, Anput's name ends in a feminine "t" suffix when seen as jnpwt.
Draconian
Draconian-Egyptian Grimoire-Asenath Mason
Anpu, also known as Anubis in Greek, was the original Egyptian Lord of the Dead before the death of Asar (Osiris) that occurred with the rise of the Asar cult. As the stories go, Anpu vacated the spot as a sign of respect for Asar, and became the lord of the embalming process, funerals, graveyards, the weighing of the soul in the hall of Amenti, and ferrying the souls into the land of the dead. Highly shamanic, Anpu is a guide that can help us find the correct path when we seek his wisdom. Different myths have different lineages associated with them, but the oldest myths say he is a son of Ra. However, through the centuries his lineage changed several times, and drastically at that, as did his role as can be seen above. In his book "777," Aleister Crowley corresponds him to Hod on the Qabalistic tree of life, which is also where Mercury and Ilermes are placed, due to their psychopomp natures. However, since that was a later addition to the legend of Anpu, there would be a different Qabalistic correspondence for him that would correspond to our work. We will be working with him to guide us to deeper into the draconian mysteries of ancient Egypt that time has forgotten. We should also remember that the role of psychopomp attached to Anpu rose during the early Hermetic era, and didn't reflect earlier Egyptian periods and teachings.

If you get this, answer with 3 random facts about yourself and send this to the last 7 people in your notifs! Let’s get to know each other better! (Anon or not, it doesn’t matter)
1. I’m one of the major editors for the Deshret Script - Texts section in the Genshin Wiki. I decoded (with help from some extremely clever translators on Reddit and Twitter, not gonna claim I did this alone) the Eremite weapon inscriptions and etymology, the Obelisk text, and Cyno’s namecard, among others. My favourite was decoding the text on Deshret’s tomb, “AMON-KHENTI-AMENTI // MEKDSRT-WAFKHASUT”.
2. I am a shuake lover, but less well-known is that I am a suzalulu (god I hate that ship name) lover as well. Code Geass is one of my favourite anime of all time and I highly recommend it to literally anyone. If I had a coin for every time a black-haired antihero is rivals with a brown-haired do-gooder who is secretly also unethical/morally dubious I would have two coins, which is strange that it happened twice.
3. Yes I am a Haruki Murakami enjoyer. Have read Kafka on the Shore, Colourless Tsukuru Tazaki, Norwegian Wood, South of the Border West of the Sun, and Men without Women. All were wonderful in their own ways and I will throw hands in Murakami book discourse. Fight me.

in your fic does a white fang vacuo branch exist?
Not really. At least, not in the sense that they're called the White Fang.
As Vacuo is seen as the first Faunus Kingdom, and is the best kingdom in modern time for the Faunus, the White Fang as it exists everywhere else doesn't.
Rather, Faunus in Vacuo work towards preserving history and teaching communities, keeping their stories alive with each generation. Outside of the main cities like Isidis, Khenti-Amenti, and Gaza, where they work with the priests and priestesses to do this, it usually falls to the tribe leader to carry on the duties expected in the cities.
Which is why Faunus like Sun don't know much about the White Fang outside of Vacuo, because the White Fang in Vacuo thinks and operates very differently to their other kingdom counterparts.

Alright, I sat my butt down and wrote out my thoughts from a previous post more in-depth. This study / headcanon pertains Nahida's 3.6 second story quest. Do not read this essay if you have not finished her story yet!
King Deshret's confirmed name is Amun, which indicates that what is written on his tomb now has more substance. The right side reads as Amun Khenti-Ament, which is his true name and likely a title. Khenti-Amentiu was a title also used for Osiris and Anubis and it appeared on necropolis cylinders, but it isn't an actual name. As such, the full true name I will be using from now on will be Amun Ra-Horakhty. Amun is known as a god of the air and often closely associated with the sun god Ra ( i. E. when merged together as Amun-Ra, in some versions they are even interchangeable. ) Horakhty represents Horus, who is known as a son of the sky, and ties into the falcon imagery that is heavily referenced with Deshret's lore. Regarding Alhaitham specifically, Horus is also well known for reincarnation, most notably rebirth in the east. ( With the desert being " western Sumeru. " ) All three of those gods also have associations in the form of Amun-Ra and Ra-Horakhty respectively, often merging together as reformed deities. And to fully round this study out, the right side of Deshret's tomb reads Mek Dsrt Waf Khasut, which very likely references Mek Kemet waf khasut, literally translating to " protector of the desert who curbs foreign lands. " This is a huge hint towards his rebellion against Celestia's Heavenly Principles and its imposed reign. King Deshret and Al-Ahmar are better known names and are more widely used.( For comparison, Buer = Amun, Kusanali = Al-Ahmar, Nahida = Deshret )
Fully confirmed that King Deshret was pursuing forbidden knowledge to challenge Celestia, as did other divine beings at the time. He was the only one to succeed because of Nabu Malikata's aid. My guess is there was generally a faction that was willing to rebel against the Heavenly Principles, which Deshret was apart of by extension, even if he was primarily pursuing his own idealistic dreams without outside influence. I cannot see Deshret adhering to the will and guidelines of someone else. But most importantly, happy that it was made clear that Deshret was not the only one who considered this path a worthwhile risk and that he was not the " crazy one " for trying to do so, which fits much better with my portrayal. Any madness Deshret had came with the Forbidden Knowledge.
King Deshret was almost certainly a Descender from Celestia, and I will write him as such. This has been hinted several times, most notably as being heavily referenced as a son of the sky and him often being seen looking up at the sky with nostalgia. The reason he descended in my headcanon is due to not agreeing with Celestia's ways / the Heavenly Principles, which ultimately led to him rebelling against them as a god. This is also in some part why King Deshret rejected the offered gnosis.
More or less confirmed that Deshret and Nabu Malikata were only briefly romantically involved ( if at all? ) in the Vourukasha's Glow description. They are not romantically involved in my personal lore to begin with, but finding out that the Goddess of Flowers then proceeded to essentially be two Lesbian Moms ™ with Rukkhadevata was an interesting turn of events. So even if King Deshret had feelings in the canon lore, he essentially still wound up watching the gals and their bird child thrive from the sidelines.
Deshret and Apep were basically frenemies. They were not exactly on good terms, but because their goals aligned, they came to a mutual understanding. Deshret came into a position where he could practically utilize Apep as a failsafe in the event the forbidden knowledge would destroy himself, indicating that Deshret actually thought pretty far ahead. When this came to pass, Apep swallowed his remains after he sacrificed himself. That is a neat reference to Apep and Ra in the original myth, where Apep was said to swallow the sun ( Ra ) every single night. This corrupted Apep and is also the reason why Deshret's tomb is empty. Apep having consumed Deshret's forbidden knowledge, and by extension also his body, is one the two primary reasons why Alhaitham's memory of his pre-reincarnation life is almost entirely missing. This is also partially rooted in Deshret's self-sacrifice, but the consumption made it worse. Alhaitham is in a similar position to Guoba where the sacrifice coupled with the assimilation of Deshret's former body and knowledge has caused him to no longer have these memories or any of the prior powers.

I've revamped and changed sm abt my ocs that I figured I should do this lol.
Moriah the Artist cat:
Three words: Creative, Somber, Hopeful.
Bio: Moriah has the ability to predict the future through her paintings. Painting for fun has been pushed away a bit so that she can predict things for the tribe. She wishes to be free and able to paint whatever she wants, but she's somewhat forced to be serious about her role.
Family: Mate of Tantomile. Eventual mother of Malachite and Philomena.
Lizadora the Senior Protector:
Three words: Motherly, Powerful, Courageous
Bio: A very big and very strong queen. She has a large list of values and will not hesitate to defend them or the people she loves. She tells stories to the kittens and they'll often crowd around her looking for a tale.
Family: Mate of MaliTart, Mother of Magnolia and Charlie. Sister of GrizaBella, their parents were called MikTom and Kathleen.
Waltze the Mob Boss cat:
Three words: Jovial, Selfless, Virtuous.
Bio: A fancy cat hailing from Germany, with his long luscious hair and pretty bowtie. His owners have a suit shop, and he operates out of It. He takes in those that nobody else will, mainly dogs, and is quite generous with his riches. As long as you're kind to him, he won't send his "sons" after you.
Family: Adoptive dad of about 20 stray dogs. Mayyybe the boyfriend of Koffi 👀 (@storyweaverofgondor).
Bumblebutts the Beekeeper cat:

Family: Daughter of Lizadora and MaliTart, sister of Charlie.
Tox the Mad Scientist:
Three words: Vile, Inquisitive, Cruel.

Though she does have a tiny bit of fondness for her partner, Eris (an oc of @baconandbuscuits ), and her two children, Hollyhock (@baconandbuscuits again), Hemlock. She will not hesitate to drop them if something happens, as her all time goal is to defeat Macavity, despite working under him. She has a somewhat complicated relationship with her test subject, Barkus (yet again @baconandbuscuits ), who is also the father of Hemlock...
Family: Mate of Eris, Mother of Hollyhock and Hemlock.
Iridescence the Gift cat:
Three words: Generous, Thoughtful, Kindhearted.

Three words: Soulful, Bold, Insecure
Bio: A sleek and soulful cat who digs the Blues. He's often in his brothers' shadows but he doesn't mind, he does his own thing. He had some level of insecurity because his style of music isn't very Jellicle-like. He's the reborn version of GrizaBella's long passed mentor.
Family: Son of GrizaBella and Old Deuteronomy, brother of Macavity and Tugger. Pining for Despoina and Mona.
Charlie the Dumpster cat:
Three words: Calm, Streetwise, Durable.

Cheddar the Henchcat:
Three words:  Eager, Smitten, Capable.
Bio: Cheddar is the henchcat closest to Macavity. He's his assistant, chef, masseuse, executioner, husband, and much more. He doesn't hesitate to do whatever Macavity asks of him, and will get violent if need be.
Family: Mate of Macavity, adoptive father of Jinx and Chicken Wing.
Hemlock the Apprentice:
Three words: Bright, Aspiring, Meek.
Bio: Hemlock is nearly the exact opposite of Tox. Where she is cruel and hard, he is fair and shy.
Family: Son of Tox and Barkus, adopted son of Eris, brother of Hollyhock.
Buckaroo the Meowdy cat:
Three words: Honest, Flirtatious, Hard-working.
Bio: Just a genuine guy. Happy to help and very proud of his farm life. He was raised by horses and tends to trot and gallop. I'd compare him to Thomas from the Aristocats.
Family: Two horses called Marigold and Jesse are his adoptive parents. He has an on and off thing with Dragonsnapper.
Dragonsnapper the Larrikin cat:
Three words: Rowdy, Judgemental, Rough.
Bio: Snappy abandoned his show cat life, shaved his fur to be one big spiky mowhawk, and got a little Jean vest. Now he's trying to become the next Rockstar of the Jellicles. He idolizes Tugger somewhat, though he mainly sees him as out of date.
Family: Has an on and off thing with Buckaroo.
Gizpallid the Therapy cat:
Three words: Attentive, Deppressed, Workaholic.

Family: Mate of Socrates.
Goose the Avian cat:
Three words: Clairvoyant, Insightful, Wistful.

Palomine:
Three words: Friendly, Courageous, Uplifting.

Family: Brother of Palomine, adoptive son of Axelle and Doe.
Axelle:
Three words: Bitter, Proficient, Receptive.
Bio: Her true owner passed away, and her owners family didn’t want her, so she was tossed outside. She’s the leader of the group basically, and really wants to get her family somewhere safe.
Family: Mate of Doe, adoptive mother of Palomine and Persnickety.
Despoina the Opera Queen:
Three words: Demure, Dulcet, Romantic
Bio: The shy and lesser known sister of Munkustrap. She had nobody to play with whenever he'd go off to train with Old D, and mainly ended up hiding as a kitten. Being alone so much let her practice her voice with no distractions, and her vocal cords developed very well, earning her title of The Opera Queen. Noxebris and her were very close as kittens and they both have feelings for each other, but their individual insecurities keep them from it.

Qwerty the Office Cat:
Three words: Awkward, Straightforward, Astute.
Bio: Qwerty lives with his very nerdy owner that lives above their office. He never really leaving the office and never really chats with other cats, just watching the workers and looking at the superhero movies that his owner plays. One day, his owner left the window open and Qwerty wandered outside to get a piece of paper that the wind blew out, and he ended up catching the eye of some Jellicles. Said Jellicles helped him retrieve the paper and they all ended up chatting for hours, telling him old Jellicle tales. They invited him to the yard, able to tell this strange tom is for sure a Jellicle, and now Qwerty is looking for more ways to sneak out of the office...and maybe find this hot "Rumpus Cat" that they told him about...
Family: Doesn't have anythung but a dehabilitating crush on The Rumpus Cat.
Mona the Mime Queen:
Three words: Silent, Eerie, Dramatic
Bio: Born during a ball, under the light of the Jellicle Moon, Mona is truly a sight to behold. She looks like Buenos Aires Mistoffolees. She doesn't speak with her voice, but uses sign and interpretive dances to speak. She unnerves many cats, and may have a connection to the Everlasting Cat.
Family: Secretly pining for Noxebris and Despoina.
Wilder the Demi-god cat:
Three words: Omnipotent, Wild, Prankish.
Bio: Once upon a time the Everlasting Cat decided that she wanted a child, so she found a tom who was one of her most loyal followers and they made a kitten. Said kitten would go on to be a God version of a troublesome teenager- His Mother named him Wilder because he can always get more wild. He ditched his status as the Prince of The Heaviside layer to go have fun with all the mortals. He kept the semi immortality tho, he liked that part- these days he breaks hearts and messes with the locals, befriending one eerie boy 👀

Most of the Pollicles are owned by the junkyard master, but a fair bit of them are just strays that took sanctuary among the garbage. Ruby’s Mother had just had a litter of puppies, and she happened to find a little kitten who’d been thrown away, she then raised Ruby as her own and as if she was a dog. Ruby is a tortoiseshell American Curl cat, she solely believes that she should have been born an actual dog. She knows very well thats she’s a cat, but she ignores it in favor of proving herself over and over again as a dog. She’s very fierce and protective of her junkyard, and can easily handle herself among her pack.
Family: She has been somewhat adopted by Waltze (another of my ocs), alongside a bunch of other dogs her age.

III Shomu - Full Moon 2022
For this month's full moon, I finally did something that I've been both anxious to do and putting off because I am at Burn Out. I finally planted the tobacco seeds and let me tell you... I knew they were small fucking seeds but uh they were infinitely smaller than I remembered.
I lit my full moon candle and tried to think about the full moon in terms of modern pagans. Release. Self-care. Uh... round? I have a hard time with that because the full moon is Khenty-irty to me and nothing else. And two whole eyes of Horus are less about release and more about ma'at-affirming/life-affirming behavior.
That's kind of why I chose this particular thing to do for the full moon. I've been missing out on full moon shenanigans (while somehow remembering the new moon even before my lunar app or Google calendar goes off). And I realized today that maybe the reason I keep forgetting the full moon is because I don't feel like I'm undertaking any ma'at-affirming or life-affirming behaviors lately. So, to make myself green-of-face, so to speak, I figured playing in the dirt to grow green things would be a good way to go.
I used the dirt from the corn doll graveyard I crafted for the Osiris Mysteries last year. I had to shove my hands deep into the earth to find the dollies and pull them out for ritualistic burning on Midsummer with the Solstice Squad and my fish replicas for Treading the Fishes. They were in surprisingly good condition if a little dirty. -bahdumchiss-
There's still dirt left over but far less than I was expecting. I had hoped I would have enough to at least start the wheat for the Beautiful Reunion but alas. What's left of the doll graves will sow the top of the wheat containers in memory of the Mysteries.
I made a mess. A big huge, kind of muddy but not really mess. My hands were covered passed my wrists. My nails still have dirt under them. If I didn't need to wash my hands thoroughly before I wash my face tonight, I'd leave it there.
My inner child seemed happy though. Playing in the dirt elicits memories of mud pies in the side yard in the circle that never grew a damn thing. It became my brother's monster truck pit for his cars and stuff later. But it was my mud pie bakery first. Was there anything more satisfying than creating a mud pie that jiggle-jiggled when you smacked it just right? Just me?
I may have overseeded each little container. I was told "8-10" per little... pack... thing... plant containers are made of. But like... these shits are damn small. 8-10 seems so puny, so. So. Insignificant. I didn't count a single fucking time. As with garlic, I let my heart tell me when enough was enough.
I misted them, tucked them in [metaphorically], and now... we wait.
I need a little room to breathe
You're making this hard for me
When all I need is to be set free
I need a little time to think

Medicine and Magic in ancient Egypt
Tumblr media
« (...) The hairs in my head are the same as the ones from the goddess Nun. My face is the Solar disc of Ra. The strength of the goddess Hathor lives in my eyes. The soul of Upuaut1 echoes inside my ears. Inside my nose the forces of the god Khenti-Khas are alive. My two lips are the lips of Anupu2. My teeth are the teeth of Serket. My neck is the neck of the goddess Isis. My two hands are the hands of the powerful lord of Djedu3. It is Neit, the sovereign of Sais that lives in my two arms. My backbone is the backbone of Seth. My phallus is the phallus of Osiris. My flesh is the flesh of the Lords of Kher-Aha. My chest is the Lord of the Terrors. My womb and my back are those of the goddess Sekhmet. The forces of the Eye of Horus dwelve in my buttocks. My legs are the legs of Nut. My feet are the feet of Ptah. My fingers are the fingers Of the Double Divine Falcon that lives forever. In truth! There is no tone member in my body that is not hosted by a divinity. As for Thoth, he protects all my body. As Ra, I renew myself everyday. »4
Introduction
Health was a constant concern in life and even the deceased needed extra care so they can be at their prime when closed in the sarcophagus, in the possession of magical ‘weapons’ so that, when they would reach the Afterlife, they would be in the complete possession of all their physical abilities. Medicine in ancient Egypt was trying to restrain all malefic beings from action and to preserve the well-being of the individual. Thus the initial statement that magic and science were one and only, a sole concept, represented by heka... Through this work, all descriptions and conceptions observed in the existing legacy of ancient Egypt will lead to conclusions that attest this unique duality, if we can name it.
After careful observation, this work was divided in Chapters, because this form was agreeing with the interconnection of the studied themes, as, investigating the Egyptian legacy, and comparing it many times with present examples, part of the pathological patterns in Egypt did not change much when referring to endemic diseases.
There are four Chapters, (1. Chapter: Sources of Information; Medical and Magical Papyri; 2. Chapter: Heka –«the art of the magical written word»; 3. Chapter: Pathologies’ types; 4. Chapter: Medical-magical prescriptions and its ingredients); this theme list being a description that contemplates from the global perspective to details, revealing all, from general existing sources to particular ingredients used in prescriptions.
The first Chapter (1. Chapter: Sources of Information; Medical and Magical Papyri) briefly lists pertinent sources of information to the study of medical-magical practices in ancient Egypt and includes some sources not quoted in this work, but nevertheless essential to this research, analysis and conclusive thinking; Egyptian papyri, written in different languages, ostraca with medical-magical characteristics, skeletized and mummified human remains, art depictions, foreign travelers’ diaries, general literature where pathologies are mentioned (personal letters), food habits, seasons of famine and abundance, caused by war or natural catastrophes as the yearly flood. The reference to the origin of the word mummia is made and also to the «mummy powder» used as medicine. Some ancient Egyptian words are listed either related to health and body parts or mummification, just as examples. Next, the mummification procedures are summarily described according to classical authors and some conceptions of ancient Egypt regarding the human body. This chapter ends with some cases of analyzed Egyptian mummies, referring the used techniques and results. A table was elaborated listing known cases.
In the second chapter (2. Chapter: Heka – «the art of the magical written word»), an analysis is made of how the ancients Egyptian considered magic, both in life and after death, in the afterlife, its relation to the human body, magical ‘performances’ and the desired effects, the ‘job’ and its exercise by priests, exorcists, doctors-magicians, the active practitioners of magic (those who produced medical prescriptions and applied them), how the medical diagnosis was made, a table illustrating medical specialties is shown, some ancient Egyptian words are listed as related to human body parts and mummification, a question is made about per-ankh, a hospital-school?, and also a reference to medical instruments is added. Next we have a sub-chapter on written magic, spells and gods related to magic, personal performances, another sub-chapter lists different amulets and its importance, mentions also some words used in personal protection, including human substances used as ingredients in magical prescriptions with medical intent.
In the third chapter (3. Chapter: Pathologies’ types), some pathologies are discussed; the ones we can relate to ancient Egyptian society as to have existed mentioning treatments, when known.
In the fourth chapter (4. Chapter: Medical-magical prescriptions and its ingredients), the ancient Egyptian pharmacopoeia is discussed in more detail, distinguishing the types of ingredients used in prescriptions in vegetable, mineral and animal items, giving examples.
The conclusions are clear to attest that magic and medicine did not exist as separate entities, distinct from each other, as in ancient Egypt, the conception of well being brings together a mix of prophylactic actions (generally denominated as magic by modern Western civilizations), and medical therapeutics with a probable scientific basis.”

Symbol of Heka.
See however  https://repositorio.uca.edu.ar/bitstream/123456789/6580/1/paula-veiga-health-ancient-egypt.pdf  , with a very (too?) severe critical review of this work by Amanda Alice Maravelia of the Hellenic Institute of Egyptology. I reproduce here a long excerpt from this review:
“Finally, it is absolutely wrong to consider that the Egyptians of Antiquity were glorifying death, as the author claims (cf. p. 64, col. II, § 1), as is erroneous to think that their High Culture was death-centered! On the contrary they were glorifying life and that is why they were virtually preoccupied with death and the afterlife, in order just to be able to continue their lives in a Paradise of elation! Additionally, the author is definitely confused when she states that “the Egyptians were the precursors of Medicine, not the Greeks” (cf. p. 65, col. I, § 2). It is not at all a matter of a “cultures’ war” that enters here! The Egyptians were the initial inventors of Monotheism, they managed to present excellent pre-scientific cosmovisional models through metaphysical allegories and religious metaphors, they enriched the Human Culture with unique and majestic artefacts, as well as the Hellēnes did! However, only the latter were those who first put the firm foundations for proto-scientific and scientific models, consequently they were actually the first to exercise Medicine in a fully scientific way! And let us not forget that the depiction of advanced surgical tools that the author refers to (p. 64, col. II, § 1) come from the temple at Kom Ombo, hence they are dated from the Ptolemaic Period, when the Hellenic Science and Reason prevailed in Egypt, not only in Medicine, but in Astronomy and in Mathematics too (cf. e.g.: the Carlsberg Papyri 15). As for the assumed “University Hospitals” that the author is imagining (p. 64, col. II, § 1), with her more than “fertile” imagination, what one could say? It will remain an unproven scenario that bears no textual or other archaeological evidence whatsoever. And behold what the author claims (cf. p. 65, col. I, § 2): “Are not cosmetics, perfumery and all alternative medicines based on energy transference, phytotherapy, animal substances, accompanying prayers  in certain treatments, as they did in ancient Egypt?”! What kind of conclusion is that? It is a great pity that an Egyptologist thinks like a superficially educated esoteric lay-person! It is unacceptable to confuse the Science of Medicine with semi-religious treatments, psychological “transference” and alternative  “medicines”! What might be this so-called “energy transfer”? Energy is a physical quantity that expresses in a rationalistic and mathematically formalized manner the capacity of a physical system to produce work, it can be kinetic, dynamic, and so on ... but in any case NOT esoteric! Pity that the author has written such nonsensical and esoteric mumbo-jumbo “arguments” in her “conclusions”, for they are absolutely unacceptable and characteristic of the desultory way her book (that regrettably contains countless errors) was made!”

Amanda Aliki Maravelia is Greek Egyptologist and archaeoastronomer.
However, it is noteworthy that this so severe critique does not have as target the thesis of the author that medicine and magic were very closely interconnected in ancient Egypt, something which must be seen as beyond doubt.
