#Jim and Toby get turned into monsters too

Note
the way I want to ask you about all of your wips ksajdhfkjsadf the titles all sound so interesting!!! But hmmm I suppose I will go with My what sharp teeth you have
Oh god don’t get me started, I’d ramble about each and every one of these au’s for hours it’d drive you absolutely nuts.
This one is basically a revamped au of another au, because I’ve gone and turned it into a multi chapter instead of just one. Instead of trolls it’s monsters.
And for context Claire got bit by the monster they were hunting and didn’t tell them. Most of the group end up as something other than human or human adjacent by the end, except Douxie he’s been something for a very long time haha.
He stares at the lump of sheets, pillows and blankets, hoping it’ll give any indication it’s awake, let alone alive because she hasn’t moved at all. Taking up the middle of Blinky and Aaarrrgghh’s king sized bed.
“Anything?” Toby asks quietly, his voice worn and shaky as he enters the dark room.
Jim shakes his head. “Blinky said to let her rest.”
“Is she gonna sleep the whole day away?” Toby tries to joke but it falls flat, there is something seriously wrong with their friend and they both know it.
And recently, but also concededly seems to worsen in turn with the oncoming full moon.
It was the little things over the past month, ever since they’d went on that failed mission, lost their target and it ended with Claire limping behind the group in the dark, moonlight accompanying them.
Claiming she must have pulled something in her leg.
Darci said she’d almost punched Shannon in the face for bumping into her on accident in the hallway. Mary kept complaining that the flash on her phone was repeatedly messing up their pictures becasue it’d make her best friends eyes look all reflective and glowy.
It was the frequent undeniable, unexplainable bouts of anger.
Toby almost lost his head in the forge during training a week ago.
“Hey! I didn’t mean to trip you!” He shrieked as he threw his hands up and Claire just seethed at him like she wanted to tear him in two.
It was unsettling, frankly.
Two days prior to their current debacle is when things took a real turn. She wouldn’t even so much as open her mouth to speak, Toby formally dubbed it the silent treatment. Jim got the feeling it was something more.
They’d been at Blinky and Aaarrrgghh’s house that afternoon and she’d disappeared from the living room for almost an hour. Jim and Toby went searching for her after just twenty minutes. Jim was the one who’d found her.
He’d heard the sink running in the bathroom, the splash of water and sound of wet droplets hitting the tile.
Jim hesitantly knocked and the bathroom went silent, she opened the door moments later and claimed she needed to go.
Giving some bumbling, half baked excuse, homework.
But he’d treaded back into the bathroom minutes later after she left, just to be sure. Jim felt his body go cold as he stood in the small room. There was blood, most of it had been cleaned up, hidden but it was there, smudged along the edge of the sink.
Jim couldn’t figure out why until he saw her again. She’d been avoiding them all day at school.
It was her teeth.
Which is frankly weird to say, but that’s what finally stamped out any indication this could be anything else. The stress of school or she’d ignored Blinky’s advice and been overusing her staff.
The guy at the coffee shop, Douxie? was that his name, had sharp teeth too, his irises just a tad too red in certain shades of daylight.
But this was different.
The way they caught in the light when she spoke, or that time she’d kissed him, the sharp edges grazing against his lower lip and causing blood to welt up. He’d drawn back a bit confused but nothingness tried to assure he was fine.
And as he stared at her horrified expression did Jim realize two things.
Claire’s teeth weren’t human, which meant neither was she, not anymore.

Tales of Arcadia Halloween Fic recs
Any TOA fans out there looking for something spooky to read around Halloween? Well then this is the the list for you! A compilation of my favorite horror and Halloween themed Tales of Arcadia fics. Some of these are safe for all ages, but some do lean hard into horror, so mind the tags and read with caution.
Arcane Blight @avirxy Do you like horror? Do you like Tales of Arcadia? If the answer is yes to both then stop what you're doing and read this. Takes place in an alternate universe where Jim is the new kid in Arcadia, and he quickly realizes that this innocent looking town has dark secrets lurking beneath the surface. To say any more would ruin a lot of the truly gut punching, jaw dropping twists and turns this story has.
The Changeling Masquerade @earth-ambassador-jim Takes place in the author's changeling Toby au. Shows how exactly changelings celebrate Halloween, but with a sinister twist.
Tear Me In Two (The Moonlight Will Anyway) @avirxy Two words. Werewolf Claire. In a monster hunter au Claire gets a nasty bite from a lycanthrope and the whole group struggles with the consequences. One of my all time favorite pieces of werewolf media for the absolutely phenomenal way it explores what it means to unleash the beast within.
Through the Veil @pinkytoothlesso11 This one's just getting started, but holy hell what a start! Jim doesn't given much credibility to Eli's ramblings of monsters and conspiracies in their town, until he witnesses someone he trusts performing a horrific ritual on Halloween night that brings everything he thought he knew into question. Now Jim and his friends are far from home and lost in a world hostile to human kind, and no guarantee that they'll make it home safe.
Something's wrong with Arcadia @earth-ambassador-jim When Jim and team Trollhunters aren't running around causing problems, what does the average Joe think of the strangeness going on in Arcadia? Bular and goblins and changelings shown from a mundane point of view in a way that's absolutely chilling.
31 Days in the Darklands @xdeusxmachinax Not technically a Halloween story, but takes place near and on Halloween with tons of horror and spooky imagery. I always give it a re-read each spooky season. In the wake of an unconventional treaty Strickler struggles to keep balance between Trollmarket, the Janus order, Arcadia, and the Darklands but the universe seems to sabotage him at each stage, and there's more than just pumpkin spice in the air this year in Arcadia.
Snippets, Snails, and Trollish Tales @whitherwanderyouspirit Some mostly Stricklake centered Halloween one shoots ranging from sweet to spooky to downright terrifying.
The Manor atop the Hill @avirxy A Haunted House story like you've never seen done before. When a desperate and frightened Jim follows his mother into the mysterious mansion on the outskirts of town he finds himself trapped in more ways than one. No one has lived in this house for as long as anyone can remember, but it is far from empty. Forced to rely on ghosts and a mysterious girl, Jim has to keep his wits about him if he wants to escape with his life, and his soul, intact.
cave bestiam @rosemaidenvixen Based on the online two sentance horror story "A girl heard her mom yell her name from downstairs, so she got up and started to head down. As she got to the stairs, her mom pulled her into her room and said, “I heard that, too.” But staring Barbara and Jim.
Fear of Fears @rosemaidenvixen An alternate take on my sunshine au. Jim decideds to sneak out on Halloween by passing his troll form off as a costume, a decision that will ripple outward into horrific consequences.
Tales of All Hallows Eve @rosemaidenvixen Collection of my Halloween themed one shots and drabbles.
Dig your eight graves @rosemaidenvixen Eight teens from Arcadia wander far from home and suffer a brutal attack from an evil that was much closer to home than they could ever imagine. Alone and traumatized, one of them makes a bargain in order to reclaim what was taken from them. They gain everything they ask for and more, but lose more than they ever thought possible.
A Bunch of Hocus Pocus @rosemaidenvixen A collection of 31 spooky and Halloween themed one shots for Tales of Arcadia and The Owl House, released one per day each day of October until Halloween.

Hi! Here's an interesting ask. What if Douxie had met and eventually adopted by Barbara a few years before the events of Season One happen?
Barabra and Jim are both aware of the supernatural during season one due to them finding out Douxie is a wizard. As to how Jim and Douxie both claim: "it was Archie's fault" when Claire asks the same question when she learns.
So, I'd say that Douxie gets in trouble with some witches who have a personal vendetta against Merlin. He uses a de-aging potion to escape them, turning into a twelve-year-old kid. Initial Douxie's plan is to hide for a while, using a potion until the witches leave Arcadia. He also uses a foster care system to throw them off his tracks.
One day, Douxie gets injured and taken to the hospital where he meets Barbara for the first time. Barbara takes a liking to this kid, and after some consideration, decides to adopt him.
That is how Jim gets an elder brother when he is ten. Both Jim and Barbara start to consider Douxie their real family fast enough.
Douxie feels slightly conflicted about the development - while being in an actual family will clearly cover his tracks better, he realizes how much he starts caring about Barbara and Jim. So Douxie's decision is to continue with de-aging until he reaches his actual age of 19 while keeping the magic part secret.
The latter one is where he fails spectacularly because of Archie who isn't able to tolerate being treated as a silly cat for long and loses it one day when Toby tries to babytalk to him. So, Toby, Jim, and Barbara who are present, learn that Archie isn't a cat at all, and Douxie decides it'll be fair to tell them everything fully expecting that Barbara might throw him out after his confession. However, the truth actually makes their bonds tighter. It's such a relief for everyone as Barbara has always felt her adopted son hid something, not to mention that Douxie doesn't need to pretend to be a kid all the time (and Archie is the happiest for finally being treated with some respect).
Initially, Barbara is worried about Douxie's occasional monster hunts, but as he proves his competence, she lets him go. However, she strictly prohibits Jim and Toby from joining - and Douxie supports this decision as he's aware of how dangerous are his outings. Not that the boys agree with that as they keep sneaking out and following Douxie. It ends up with Douxie teaching them how to deal with various types of creatures as he realizes that Jim and Toby will continue anyway, and it will be better to ensure that they will at least know how to defend themselves.
Not that Jim is content with only that. He wishes to have a true adventure, not just warding off some goblins. At some point, he even tries to learn magic, but unfortunately for him, he has no aptitude for it.
Everything changes when Jim picks up the amulet. He (and Toby) know straight away that the amulet is magic, but cannot tell what exactly it is. When Jim is back home, he asks Douxie about it right away - and Douxie doesn't take it well because he 1)knows what it is and 2) knows that Jim cannot refuse the mantle. Merlin ordered Douxie not to get involved with the Trollhunters until Merlin contacts him, but it's not like Douxie can ignore his little brother getting into a dangerous situation.
Blinky and Aaarrrgghh come right amid Douxie's explanation about the amulet. Jim isn't that shocked or scared to see them as he knows about trolls' existence. He's also rather excited to finally get his adventure. Besides, Douxie is on his team too.
Initially, Jim hopes to keep everything from Barbara as he doesn't want to trouble her more. She finds out the next day though as trolls barge in openly (they are sure that everyone in the Lakes' household knows about magic, so see no problem, and Jim has forgotten to mention it to them to keep his mom in the dark).
So, in this AU Jim has support from both his mom and elder brother. It changes some things:
Barbara is initially worried sick about Jim risking his life and only calms down a bit once Douxie promises her that he'll make sure that no one is hurt;
Barbara is a team medic and frequent to the Trollmarket. She still has a relationship with Strickler as no one has been aware that Strickler is a changeling for a while;
Douxie provides some information about different magical creatures and the amulet;
Douxie also helps Jim with dating advice (though, Jim is still awkward when it comes to Claire);
once Jim learns that Strickler is a changeling, he is reluctant to tell it to Barbara. Keeping it secret leads to Barbara falling under the binding spell of Angor Rot. She learns the truth soon afterward, but the damage is already done;
Douxie starts teaching Claire magic once she gets a shadow staff, however, Claire has been interested in magic since joining the team

FAVOURITE FANFICTION FROM EVERYONE!!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH OKAY OKAY OKAY OKAY!!!!!
*camera being set up by Clotpole and Dollophead*
Dollophead: *looks on clipboard* So... who's going first?
Clotpole: *fixing camera and computer* It's... Toby this time, I think.
Dollophead: What happened to Jim?
Clotpole: Well, after he hacked into the system to play Shameless on the speakers, the Dark Raven and Queen of Maids agreed that it wouldn't be good for him to go first since he had more time to hack into the speakers.
Dollophead: *groans* And why exactly are we taking my girlfriend's advice on this?
Clotpole: Simply because it's best to. No one messes with the Dark Raven, and you know that very well.
Dollophead: *snorts* Oh, so she gets Dark Raven as a name, but I got stuck with fucking Dollophead-
Clotpole: Toby, get in here!
*Toby enters, smiling nervously*
Clotpole: Sit. Now.
*Toby sits down on the chair*
Clotpole: Now, what is your favourite fanfiction, huh?
Toby: I cannot believe you shadow portalled us all the way from Arcadia at 4 am-
Clotpole: Do it, or I'm dropping you in Gatto's mouth.
Toby: Fine! Umm... Your Future Hasn't Been Written by @sakon76. 161 chapters so far, angsty, but honestly a good read. But I want to kill Arthur. For sure. But there are so many things I don't understand- all because Jim doesn't explain them. Such as the Green Knight-
Dollophead: Okay, that's it. Next!
*Toby jumps out of chair and goes to stand next to Dollophead*
Toby: Dude, how do you deal with her-
Dollophead: I've known her since she was 3. That's how.
*Darci enters the room, and sits down on the seat, smiling*
Clotpole: *smiles* Hey, Darce. If you don't mind telling me, what is your favourite fanfiction?
Darci: *thinks* It has to be... A Secret's Worth by @rosemaidenvixen. It's way too good. I literally just finished it the other day when she posted the last chapter. I really like how she took to writing Jim's and Barbara's problems with the CPS and that one scene where Strickler was combing through Jim's hair and showed that he actually worried about him because Jim was losing hair because he was stressed.
Dollophead: *ticks name on clipboard* Thank you, Darci. Next!
*Darci gets up and walks over to Toby*
Toby: How is she so nice to you?!
Darci: Because I don't make Clotpole angry.
Dollophead: Well, I don't make her angry-
Darci: D, that's simply the dynamic you have. She bosses you around, you snark at her. But we know you guys are like brother and sister-
Dollophead: I have a sister and she has a brother-
Darci: But you guys still care about each other. We can all see the bromance. And you respect her rules- like no touching her and making sure to tell her when to pray-
Clotpole: *giggles* Guys, please, we can talk about D's and my dynamic later. *puts on serious face* NEXT PERSON, C'MON- WE DON'T HAVE ALL DAY!
*Eli enters, stumbling over his feet*
Eli: Sorry, sorry, I'm here.
Clotpole: Did Steve push you?
Eli: *nods* Yeah.
Clotpole: I'll deal with him later- or Hairdo Guy will. Anyway, Eli, what is your favourite fanfiction.
Eli: Probably the series Tear Me in Two (The Moonlight will Anyway) by @avirxy. I really like how they turned our life into a monster hunting AU, with Claire as the werewolf and Mary as a banshee. I think it actually really fits the concept, and it's so well written as well.
Clotpole: *nods* One of my favourites as well, if we're being completely honest. I'll read it at midnight for no reason- just when I want to see some angst. But their Arcane Blight is by far my favourite. Anyway, thank you Eli, AND NEXT!
*Eli gets off the chair and Steve comes into the room, and sits on the chair*
Clotpole: Favourite fanfiction, Steve?
Steve: Through the Veil by @pinkytoothlesso11. That's a good one. I- I really don't know what to say, apart from the fact I'm glad that some of us got a happy ending. It makes me a little hopeful.
*Toby raises an eyebrow*
Toby: Didn't I die in that one-
Dollophead: Shut up!
Clotpole: Thank you Steve, and NEXT!
*Mary walks into the room, filing nails*
Clotpole: *rolls eyes* Mary, c'mon, we don't have all night- I need to get back home before my mom finds out I'm not doing Chemistry revision for goodness sake! Now, what is your favourite fanfiction.
*Mary sits on chair*
Mary: Probably... There is a lot about me you don't know by @generalallxsanjishipper or Killian44peeta on ao3. They're good at writing Douxie and his trauma. Also Jim being scared by the bathtub gives me the feels but also makes me kind of laugh because of that one time when he tried to move that one bathtub in that store and pretty much-
Clotpole: *stops smiling* Okay, okay, we get it, Mary, and thank you. NEXT!
*Claire enters the room and sits down on the chair*
Clotpole: Okay, favourite fanfiction, Claire?
Claire: I think I've said this before but Mirrored convictions by @albentelisa. It's too good- it just fuels me whenever I read a chapter. I especially liked that bit with Jim and the Gravesand and Mrs Shen, and then that bit after where Jim stabs Barbara in the thigh. I don't know why but it gave me this weird feeling that this would escalate later on. Can't wait for Chapter 67!
Clotpole: *grins* Honestly, I can't wait either. And finally, last but not least- JIM, GET YOUR ASS INSIDE HERE!

~10:00-15:10
as said before, under a cut to help reduce spoilers out in the open! please note that i will abbreviate aaarrrgghh!!'s name to just argh since that's a lot to type every time
archie tells claire that jim's hurt. claire tells archie to let them know to keep jim safe. (as if they wouldnt do that anyway without being told???) argh and toby attempt to slow down the train. argh can't stop it alone - it's too fast for him to. toby tries to use his warhammer to slow the train down, again, this results in things not being slow enough either.
archie warns that 'we are all going to die', with the train running out of track, and unable to make the upcoming turn. claire, nari and douxie all continue to fight. douxie gets blown from skrael's attack onto the seats to see out the window. there's only a short distance left before the train derails.
it goes off the rails, argh holding on to the front to keep toby from flying out.
in the short period of time that they have, douxie manages to cast a spell using his gauntlet to build a track for the train out of magic, (does this alter the physical rail?) which does end up crashing into a promotional display for the gun robot movie that's releasing. kids cry at the beheading of a beloved character.
i'd hate to live in this city. the tax payer dollars? oof. the train continues to tear up the sidewalk / other pavement before finally coming to a stop. they end up just avoiding crashing into a convenience store. as a gag, argh's presence has the doors open, and customers flee.
douxie is seen emerging from the wreck, looking for nari. an observer calls out that they're wearing costumes. toby and argh look relatively unharmed otherwise, and claire and nari limp out together. belroc also emerges, likely unharmed from the conflict. skrael freezes argh and toby in place.
claire tries to put herself between nari and skrael, and is easily swept aside into the trainwreck. bellroc starts pulling nari away, nari attempts to use the potted plant she's been carrying to hold on, but bellroc burns away the grown stem and roots. douxie tries to catch her and pull her back, but bellroc is too strong. he tries to get claire to shadow portal nari out of the conflict. claire's got no magic juiddce left. she's unable to teleport nari out, due to either not having an emotional anchor to get nari out, or she's too exhausted / otherwise unable to perform the needed spells.
onlookers start crowding her, filming claire or other parts of the disaster. they're only getting in the way, and could be harmed. and unfortunately, bellroc takes the chance to surround the civilians with fire, distracting claire from her attempts to get nari out of there.
skrael threatens nari and douxie to let go, or the humans they have surrounded will die & skrael will kill argh and toby. skrael covers argh and toby in ice, argh looking increasingly more panicked. toby tells him to hang on. the fire's circle becomes increasingly smaller. archie calls for douxie to let go. douxie will not. douxie continues to try and hold on. at the last second, he declares they can take him. the resulting spell has their eyes light up in the other's colour. bellroc smirks, nari's unconscious body suspended by them.
they summon a twister that teleports the three of them. a police officer tells dispatch the classing 'you're not going to believe this'. claire looks lost, walking through the battleground and taking stock. the ice trapping argh and toby breaks and frees them. claire tells douxie that she couldn't protect nari as he hops off the train.
douxie's crouched oddly, and scoops to pick up the potted plant nari'd been holding since their introduction. nari's voice giggles out from douxie, and claire deduces that they swapped places. toby declares awesomesauce.
they are immediately under spotlight and arrest. reporters looking for their response. argh is on several times square esque billboards with MONSTERS ON THE LOOSE on a banner underneath.
the team is taken a metro city police station, where they have their photos taken. this is not toby's first time in trouble with the law. claire looks unamused as she has her photo taken. argh can hardly fit in the frame, and takes a bite out of his info.
nari, in douxie's body, is in the interrogation room with her plant on the table beside her. arrrgghh tries hiding behind bushes but the police officer can see him. he sheepishly parts the bushes. claire speaks up that 'you'll find that none of us will talk.' toby immediately spills all the info. he gives more of the meta info. toby gives the police officer (and us) the info if we havent watched wizards. or tales of arcadia. and nari on some stuff.
we cut to the entrance of the office, where a cop is giving archie a dish of something to drink, saying that at least the cat's normal. archie decides to Not Be Normal, and takes the cop's donut. they're interrupted by the doors slamming open and three figures enter. one teen, and two 'adults', all dressed MIB style. the cop tries to stop them from entering the interrogation room, only for archie to point the donut at him 'back off human!' and follows the three on his hind legs.
the door to the room opens, and the teenager declares that he's agent tarron, and he's here to take custody of the prisoners on authority of area 49b, and the adult 'man' follows up with fbi, cia, nsa, scc, and both 'adults' go on either side of a very worried nari.
the teen hits us with a solid 'your mom' after the other acronyms. the cop responds 'my mom or his?'. what in the psychic papers is this.
times douxie using his staff as a melee weapon: 3

One of my favorite AUs to do for any of my hyperfixations is the Labyrinth AU, as in Jim Henson's Labyrinth which is an absolute masterpiece of a film I've been obsessed with since I was born
I've learned over my life that a Labyrinth AU works for almost every story ever and they're always a lot of fun, but I always thought that the Undertale Labyrinth AU was the most perfect one I'd ever come up with
Then I got into Amnesia
It fits SO WELL and holy crap do I have fun with it, but it might not make much sense if you don't know about the whole main AU with Daniel and Elise so proceed at your own risk
Alright so let's set the stage with characters
Daniel and Elise mix and match Sarah and Hoggle (you'll see what I mean by this later), Alexander is the man himself Jareth, Hazel is Toby, Agrippa's head is Sir Didymus and Weyer is Ambrosius, and Gabriel the Outrider is Ludo (he's my brother's favorite character and he really wanted him to be in the AU)
Now to dive in to what I've been sitting on for a year and a half now
The opening sequence where Underground plays is a montage of Daniel setting off on the expedition and finding the Orb
The next thing we know, Daniel has been amnesia'd and finds a note from himself telling him that he has to get to Alexander to save his sister Hazel before the clock strikes thirteen, so he makes his way through the castle with strange spooky happenings going on around him the whole way. He hears the voice of a little girl in danger, he doesn't know where she is but he wants to find her and save her before something terrible happens. The strange spooky happenings come to a peak in the castle's Basement Storage, and when he comes to the top of the staircase the girl suddenly appears in front of him. Daniel is relieved and says, "Oh thank goodness, I thought you might be dead!" Elise is confused and tells him that she is dead, she's a spirit appearing before him. Daniel is crestfallen and laments that he was too late, he wasn't able to get to her in time. Elise says dryly, "Oh yes, if only you'd caught up to me sooner, that would have helped me." Over the course of their conversation, Elise realizes that Daniel has no memory of anything, including her, and is trying to survive long enough to reach his sister at the center of the castle. Elise doesn't know what to do now; she's spent all this time trying to wreak vengeance on him, but he doesn't even know who she is or why she should be important to him. She needs some time to think over what to do, so she shows him the correct way forward and then leaves him on his own again.
In the meantime, Hazel is in the Orb Chamber with Alexander and several Gatherers, she's very nervous and uncomfortable so Alexander decides to do something to put her at ease and DANCE MAGIC DANCE! The Magic Dance sequence is intercut between Hazel loosening up and becoming friends with Alexander and all the monsters, and Daniel scrambling his way through the dungeons nearly dying to Grunts left and right. Alexander also shows Hazel some cool alchemy tricks and she's quite adept at them...
Daniel then falls into the Oubliette where he meets Elise again. She has decided that as long as he has no memory she will help him because his sister needs them. They travel through the Sewers of the castle until they encounter Alexander. Then one of my favorite jokes in the movie for Elise: Alexander: "Hello, Lisa." Daniel: "Elsie!" Elise: "Elise!!!" And then of course THE CLEANERS!! At some point during this chase Daniel turns to try and help Elise along and Elise has to remind him "I'm DEAD!!!" to keep him going so he won't die
They take the ladder up to the Nave and meet Agrippa, as well as Weyer who is not actually physically here, but he's astral projecting himself from the Other World like Tihana does to help out. At this point in time Agrippa and Weyer are the beggars who share a head lmao, they're arguing but genuinely need the help. Daniel and Elise set off again after agreeing to try and find a way to help Agrippa, and the secret passageway they find behind the wall leads them all the way back to the beginning of the castle, where they find Gabriel who has broken inside after Daniel and the Zimmermanns never came back to try and find out what's going on. Daniel gains some more information from Gabriel, which makes Elise wary. What will Daniel be like if he gets all his memories back? Daniel tells Gabriel the whole deal with Hazel, and Gabriel agrees to help them and they traverse back into the castle together.
Now this is one of the only major blank spots I have in this AU, Daniel and Elise end up bonding a lot during this time with Gabriel but somehow they all get separated from each other. If anybody did a "Hoggle is Hoggle's friend!!!" moment it would be Daniel, but I don't know what might cause it. But suffice it to say the three of them end up separated, Daniel ends up going through the torture chambers and getting all his memories and the Orb shards back all by himself, and then heads into the Chancel where he is greeted by the group of Grunts, aka the Fire Gang. After avoiding them for the length of the song, Elise finds Daniel and shows him a safe way out of the room. The two are running to make sure the Grunts can't follow them, and Elise is so busy looking over her shoulder she accidentally leads them into the kaernk's well in front of the Transept. Daniel is also so busy looking over his shoulder that he trips and falls headfirst down the well, so Elise quickly has to follow him to make sure he doesn't die.
There's a very narrow safe space to walk down here, and they end up reuniting with Gabriel, Agrippa's head and Weyer, who are now Didymus and Ambrosius. But while crossing over the kaernk-infested water to the other side, the boxes Daniel was using end up scattering off in all directions and he has to grab on to a chain hanging from the ceiling, his toes dangling far too close to the water for comfort. Elise, Agrippa and Weyer are all panicking having no idea what to do, when Gabriel takes out his shotgun and simply shoots the kaernks, seeing as they're the only enemies in the game who can be killed. They can all then safely traverse the water.
Here's where Daniel and Elise start to really mix and match Hoggle and Sarah. Daniel begins to hear Alexander's voice in his head taunting him about the things he's done, about how much easier it would be to forget again than to carry on with this knowledge and try to really put things right. There hasn't been time yet for Daniel to admit to Elise that he remembers everything now, and he's in fact trying to hide from her that he got those memories back, but she can tell that he's acting differently, looking at her differently. She starts to suspect, and eventually confronts him about it when the others can't hear. Daniel is distraught and admits to her that he did get those memories back and he wants to make it up to her and make it right, but he doesn't know what to do or say right now besides focusing on saving Hazel and Agrippa before trying to do anything else. Elise is somewhat mollified by this enough to drop the matter, but there's a strong tension between the two of them now that the others can't understand. Alexander's voice keeps whispering to Daniel, telling him where he could find another potion that would not only cause him to forget all of this but make him happy; he could leave all his troubles and cares behind forever. Daniel succumbs to this temptation and sneaks away from the others. Elise notices and follows him, she only catches up once he's already downed the bottle. When she sees him escaping his responsibilities and accountability yet again, she's not only irate but deeply hurt. She'd thought he'd turned a corner, she'd thought he could be different. But clearly not. Elise is so upset she leaves Daniel to his fate and runs away from the others too. Daniel briefly curses himself, "Damn you Alexander! No.. I chose it.. damn me," before he's swept away into the ballroom scene...
The ballroom scene is just too cool not to use. And the lyrics of As The World Falls Down fit SO WELL for this for them!! So yeah, same thing pretty much, but the whole time Daniel is experiencing flashes of certain memories, of good times with Alexander, the way Alexander helped him and was so caring toward him, the way Alexander swooped in as his savior, all things that are meant to keep Daniel so enraptured with Alexander that he'll remain in the illusion forever. But when he comes across the memory of Alexander comforting him after Elise's murder, it stirs something in the back of his mind. He keeps going back to that memory, trying to figure out what it was that had him in that state, and when he finally remembers everything comes flooding back all at once, Elise and taking the potion the first time, Hazel taken captive by Alexander, betraying Elise and letting her down yet again. Daniel quickly breaks away from Alexander and shatters the illusory world to get back to what he knows he needs to face up to. And Alexander is disappointed...
Instead of a junk woman, Daniel faces yet another illusion, this time of himself. He needs to beat his own demons on his own to be able to continue on. His illusory self is Daniel as he was when he wrote the final journal entry - convinced that he did nothing wrong and everything is all Alexander's fault, and he's an innocent victim and doesn't need to work hard to put any of this right since it's not his fault. Daniel almost falls prey to this much easier and more comfortable view of the situation, but he knows it's not right and is able to break free from the illusion once again. He knows he has to save Hazel and put things right with Elise.
In the meantime, Elise has come to the conclusion that even though Daniel is a selfish old boy, Hazel and Agrippa still need to be saved. If he won't be the one to do it, then she will. So she's gone to rejoin the others.
Now that he's completely back in his right mind again, the full impact of what he's done hits him for the first time and he sinks into despair. He comes to believe that he's already failed in his mission and there's nothing he can do to fix it for anyone. He sees the others all walking past him to the Chancel, and when he hears the things Elise is saying about him he's absolutely convinced. He knows he's the only one who can mend an Orb, so he does this with the pieces he still has. He plans to put the Orb in place and then let the others go forward to do the rest, leaving himself to die.
But when Daniel gets to the Chancel, he finds the others being attacked by a Brute! He knows there's nothing any of them can do against it, but when he sees Elise stand in front of the others as if to protect them, and that beast coming for her, a different part of himself takes over. He climbs onto the dome in the middle of the Chancel and throws himself on the Brute from behind, grabbing it around the neck and trying to wrench it over the edge. He eventually succeeds, but topples over the edge with it. Gabriel attempts to save Daniel and is pulled over the edge too. For the purposes of this AU, the bottom of the Chancel is filled with water, which saves Daniel and Gabriel's lives but dooms the Brute. And going off of the theory that the Brute is Wilhelm himself, this means he finally gets to rest and no longer has to continue on as such a creature. After watching him drown but seem at ease, Gabriel grabs Daniel and drags him up onto a ledge near the wall. The others frantically find a way to safely get down there, and as they do Daniel and Gabriel awkwardly try to have a conversation with each other, but they still hardly speak the same language. When the others finally reach them, Elise tells him what a stupid thing that was to do, but also thanks him for coming back. Agrippa also thanks him and tells him how brave he was to try and save them. Elise sighs and tells Daniel that Hazel needs him, and they won't be able to finish this without him. Daniel looks at her and very sincerely tells her how sorry he is. She doesn't respond, instead only says, "Let's get going, shall we?"
Alexander now sends everything he's got at the group as they make their way back to the top of the Chancel. Weyer uses the Orb to enchant Gabriel's gun so it will do damage to Gatherers, but then gets separated from Agrippa's head and runs around looking for it during all the ruckus. Daniel, Elise and Gabriel meet up with him at a certain point and Weyer tells Daniel their only hope for getting through this many creatures is to call the Shadow. Daniel is appalled by this notion, isn't this what he's been trying to avoid all this time?! But Elise confirms that it's a good idea, and Daniel relents and learns the spell from Weyer as quickly as he can. The Shadow starts taking down Gatherers left and right, Elise can see the panic flaring in Daniel's eyes and tells him to stay calm but also to run!!! They find Agrippa's head, make it up to where they can spend the Orb to get past Alexander's defenses, and to the door to the Inner Sanctum. Alexander's defenses were lowered enough to allow Daniel to enter, but Weyer and Elise can't being magical beings themselves, and Gabriel decides to stay behind to hold the door from any lingering Gatherers. Weyer reminds Daniel of the plan to get Agrippa through the portal, and Elise and Daniel have a farewell with many unspoken feelings. So Daniel takes Agrippa's head and enters the Inner Sanctum by himself.
Within You.... the lyrics of the song are quite perfect for Alexander to Daniel I think. So in this scene, Daniel is Sarah, Hazel is Toby, and Agrippa's head is the little crystal ball. Alexander takes the head from Daniel and throws him, so Daniel is not only trying to chase down Hazel but also Agrippa's head. Hazel screams when it initially rolls up to her, but Daniel tells her to stay calm and that he's a friend. He also tells Hazel to stay put so he can reach her, but she chases Agrippa's head too to try and help. "D-Daniel, your, um, friend rolled that way..! I can get him!!" They all three keep running around the staircase chamber, Daniel eventually finds and scoops up Agrippa's head and holds him close so as not to lose him again. He shows Hazel that he has him and tells her again to stay put, but now the Shadow is closing in. Daniel tells her to stay away from the red residue at all costs, but the closer it gets the more Hazel has to move again. Finally, Hazel is brought to the very center of the chamber, with a hole behind her and the Shadow closing in from all sides. Daniel sees her from a balcony far above her. "Stay where you are!!" he tells her again. "I'll come to you!" "How?!" Hazel cries. Daniel knows he only has one option. So he jumps.
The world starts falling apart around him, and when he lands he's in the Orb Chamber. Alexander appears in his true form. The standoff begins!! Daniel knows the plan is to send Agrippa through the portal, but when he notices the portal can be brought down entirely he is very tempted to take that course purely to spite Alexander. But he's able to resist that temptation for Agrippa's sake. Alexander thinks that Daniel wants to get through the portal himself; he has no idea Daniel is going to just throw Agrippa's head. Daniel tries to keep his face and mind blank so that he won't give this away to Alexander. When the portal opens, Daniel sees the joy on Alexander's face, he sees how easy it would be to knock the whole thing over, and he sees Agrippa's head in his hands. He steps forward and throws Agrippa's head as hard as he can. Alexander is utterly shocked, and Daniel tells him, "You have no power over me!" The Shadow consumes them both, Daniel is saved by Agrippa and Weyer, and ends up back home as if nothing had changed at all.
Immediately Daniel runs upstairs to make sure Hazel is okay, and finds her sleeping soundly in bed. After tucking her in and giving her a kiss on the head, he heads back downstairs to bring the Orb that appeared back home along with him to his room with a sigh. Once the Orb is sitting in front of his mirror with him, he sees Agrippa speaking to him inside the mirror. He turns around, but his room is empty. Yet when he looks in the mirror again, Agrippa and Weyer both assure him that everything turned out fine and that they made sure Gabriel made it out safely, too. Then their image fades away, and Elise is the one speaking in the mirror. Daniel's breath hitches and he clutches the edges of the mirror. "If you ever need us-" Elise is saying, but Daniel cuts her off. "I need you, Elise." She raises an eyebrow and says disbelievingly, "You do?" "Every single day, for no reason at all, for any reason at all, I need you." Elise looks at him silently, not betraying any emotions on her face. Then she says, "Well why didn't you say so, dummkompf?" When he turns around, this time they're really there! Hazel is awakened by the hubbub and then it goes straight back into my main regular AU LMAO
This isn't a perfect explanation and it's not fully detailed, but it's monstrously long as is so I will leave it here, I'm quite happy with this AU though, and it's the only Labyrinth AU I've made where the entire setting works without having to use the Labyrinth itself at all! All we had to do was add a couple of rooms to Brennenburg castle and boom
(Also in case anyone was wondering Alexander plans to bring Hazel through the portal with him and give her to Tihana as a peace offering, this is a running joke I have with my brother)

Note
(These ideas are made from the already preexisting art works for the AU along with some other ideas)
AU For Trollhunter/beast Barbra AU just after divorcing Jim’s dad Barbra starts a new life In Arcadia and recently got a new job as well with good pay but on one stormy night when Jim was staying at Tobias’s grandmas house and Barbra returning from work gets into a car crash with no fatal or serious injuries discovers unknowingly the remains of the Trollhunter before kanjigar killed by an unknown changeling (Kanjigar is not the Trollhunter in this AU, just let him be Draal’s dad) and she becomes the new Trollhunter and with the amulet new friends and pseudofamily members appear in both her life and Jim’s. And here are the relationship ideas for that AU
Jim after coming to terms with the divorce and helping his mom in any way he can but upon learning the existence of trolls try to help still and thanks to this revelation plans to one day be an ambassador for all of troll kind so one day troll kind can go public and help undo the atrocities that Arthur and his ancestors have done along with stopping the bad guys of course.
Vendel is like a grandfather that Jim never had and Barbra’s teacher of trollish culture and diplomacy along with magical advice and the guy you ask if you want or learn magic and is vary curious of modern human medicine and after a few interesting events six to find a cure for troll kind’s allergy towards sunlight and maybe even a potion that can you turn humans into trolls and vice versa.
Kanjigar is like a strict but wise teacher to Barbra and the only troll in troll market that can fight without the need of magic armor and sees a bright future for both humans and trolls especially with how the Lake family have interacted with troll and sees the human whelp Jim as a pseudo son and to help strengthen and protect even built a tunnel to the lake house to do so after sun down.
Draal is like a big but rough brother to Jim and helps Barbra with some of the troll customs that she might need help with along with fighting the bad guys of corse, whomever they be.
Blinkey is like a dad to Jim and helps him and his mom whenever he can and is actively teachingJim how to speak trollish fluently and troll culture along history to him and his mom and giving some vary interesting knowledge too help them along their quests and journeys.
Aaarrrggee is also like a big and protective papa bear when it comes to Jim or Toby and finds Jim’s dream to unit the worlds of troll and human together one of the best ideas he has ever heard of and is getting some therapeutic time whenever he is around Barbra.
Strickler is Barbra’s current boyfriend after some time settling in Arcadia and is helping Barbra and Jim feel at home in Arcadia while he is secretly rebuilding Killahead bridge but falls for Barbra more and more each time they meet and finds the young atlas and his mother to be family to him and plans to betray Gunmar just to protect them in the end and help free changeling kind from his grasp.
Bular is at first the same blood thirsty monster at first but with more interactions with the human Barbra he discovers he is thinking differently and eventually realizes that the woman is not actively trying to kill him and when they do clash he sees the same look in her eyes each time, not the look of hate or fear but of pity and a mother’s sadness and after their last battle he gets talk of of being a Gumm Gumm and willingly surrenders himself and abandons his Gumm Gumm ways, and thanks to Barbra and the Trollhunter gang convinces troll market to put him in her custody and little by little he becomes Barbra’s new adoptive son and Jim as his adoptive brother over time and becomes a part of the Lake household.
Angor Rot is the same until Barbra hands over his soul ring to Vendel so he can return Angor’s soul and free him from the pale lady’s control and helps the team whenever he can and triumphantly returns as a hero to troll kind.
Morgana is temporally stripped of her powers after the end of her battle with Barbra and gets therapy with help of Barbra and eventually comes to terms with what has happened and strives to do better in life and help and put a stop to the arcane order and defeat her undead brother and along with helping changeling kind and troll kind unit and hopes one day unit troll and human kind.
"and when they do clash he sees the same look in her eyes each time, not the look of hate or fear but of pity and a mother’s sadness"
Oh. I really, really like that. ;_;
Love your ideas! Jim and Toby should definitely still be friends with Blinky, Aaaarrrggghh and Draal, no matter the AU, it's only right. <3
And oh, that is such a good resolution for Angor's story? :O This is definitely the best timeline, haha.

MERLIN’S APPRENTICE & MERLIN’S CHAMPION || trollhunters
warnings: swearing
a/n: if rott gave me anything it gave me this idea
Tumblr media
I KNOW I SAID “JUICY” BUT REALLY THAT WAS JUST THE ANGST POTENTIAL,, THAT IM NOT INDULGING IN THIS POST IM SORRY LMAO
OKAY WHAT IM REALLY TALKING BOUT HERE IS A GOOD MERLIN/ARTHUR BUT IT ACTUALLY WORKS
no sorry i haven’t seen bbc merlin don’t come for me i’m ignorant
OKAY SO
we know douxie kept an eye on the human trollhunter and co
but douxie’s really having a hard time convincing himself he’s just doing his job
he’s actually enjoying this a little too much despite how boring staying in the shadows is
and he’s kinda worried?
so he’s got this bright idea: you know what would better help him keeps tabs? if he befriends this person
and so he does
fuck merlin’s shadows
sod the rules
ofc he’s very up front about knowing they’re the trollhunter and that he’s merlin’s apprentice
we wouldn’t want that to become a huge festering secret that eats douxie from the inside out until the inevitable reveal when merlin calls them both to help with the arcane order and they realize they’ve both been lying to each other’s faces for months/years and neither of them know if they could ever trust the other again, right? — phew *catches breath*
but before you know it, mr. casperan and mx. trollhunter are best friends
he’s basically the toby to your jim
and you’re very happy to have a best friend like douxie
he understands that monster hunting hustle
he’s the only person you can vent to and actually talk about what’s going on without sounding like a loon
and douxie likes being able to tell someone all his frustrations with merlin, since you’re also in that boat with him
you spar sometimes. it’s fun, but you’re very careful not to accidentally hurt your friend (he’s extremely careful not to hurt you or wound your ego by effortlessly wiping you out)
ofc, there’s the occasional, brushing of hands, faces a little too close together, accidentally winding up on top of one another, purposefully winding up on top of one another 👀 you know how sparring be
you and douxie are a duo. a duo who have become trollmarket’s resident troublemakers, to vendel’s exasperation
you guys tease each other a lot
you do a lot of stupid shit, cause hey, now you have magic armor and a magic sword and a magic best friend, did you think you wouldn’t get up to some shenanigans?
douxie is your impulse control and he’s not a very good one, as he’s just as bad
truthfully archie has the brain cell
and pranks? gods the pranks. you two are always either pranking each other or you’re teaming up to prank some other troll who said smth mean to you in the pub. vendel had to personally put a stop to it (read: chew you out)
doux thinks the world of you tho, you’re such a noble knight, and likes to tell people about how you’re a cinnamon roll, so innocent, so pure
and then they meet you and you directly contradict those statements
trollhunter: i’ve never done anything wrong in my life, ever
douxie: i know this and i love you
(spoiler: you’ve done lots and lots of wrong)
doux spends an awful lot of time slinking around trollmarket now, and he’s in the know for everything that’s happening
(no more being kept in the dark for this wizard apprentice)
and doux knows merlin won’t completely approve of this, but hey, it’s not like he’s helping and thus directly disobeying
really, he’s not helping you at all, it’s really fucking annoying
okay so mayyybe the occasional healing spell. you’ve got those puppy dog eyes he can’t say no to
but you understand his sense of duty, or whatever it is that drives a follower, technically being a follower of merlin yourself
you respect the old geezer (as you have not been turned into a half-troll yet) as a wise mythical figure, and as your best friend’s father
and what a perfect match you are for each other, champion and apprentice, mutually being screwed over by a guy you both think has all the answers
you and douxie help each other grow in your self-worths, that you two are more than the chances merlin has given to you
unfortunately, mortifyingly, you have caught feelings.
douxie has also caught feelings, and is saying nothing yep you have enough on your plate without him putting this on you so he’ll just quietly pine and suffer don’t mind him choking to death in the corner when you take off your helmet and throw back your hair
y’all’s problem really starts manifesting itself as protectiveness. you are really protective of your wizard and he is really protective of his knight
lots of things said that are Not What Friends Say but neither of you really want to be the one to point that out
lots and lots of i love yous that slowly get more and more serious until it’s not exactly platonic anymore
and it’s just really nice to have someone to get coffee (or your favored hot drink) with at four in the morning after a tussle with a troll
and that’s basically how you and douxie spend the bulk of trollhunters, just vibing
as much as you can vibe, with all the changelings and shit trying to murder you all the time
then merlin wakes up and shakes up your world
you are aware of your impending doom
you’re aware of it
merlin keeps looking you up and down like he’s mentally making up the measurements of your coffin
and tbh the idea of fighting gunmar freaks you tf out
and you’re supposed to win that fight?
gods
you’re preparing for your nightmares coming true soon
truthfully you knew your fucking job had a 100% mortality rate
you don’t want to die with regrets
so
you spill
you spill all the things you’d wanted to tell him and how much he means to you and that you couldn’t bear it if you were a goner before he knew
miraculously, douxie feels the same and tells you all the things he’d been holding back and and what you mean to him and how much he wants to protect you, that you’re gonna make it, if he had anything to say about it
and everything is perfect for one night
now you have a real reason to win
not that saving humanity isn’t a big responsibility on your shoulders and definitely A Reason
but knowing douxie’s waiting for you, for the life you’ll build together after this, the peace you’ll both have, it’s absolutely a big motivation to give your all and come out victorious and survive
hahaha loser you don’t know about the arcane order
and then merlin uses your microwave to cook a weird potion
you and merlin are alone in the house, but there’s no real mind games necessary. you may have grown past thinking he was a god, but in the end, you’re still a follower of merlin, and if merlin thinks this could give you an edge, well, who are you to question his methods
doesn’t mean you aren’t nervous as your master hands you the bottle
yet you don’t even hesitate to drown yourself in the black abyss of the tub
whatever it takes amirite?
and now you’re a half-troll
a sexy half-troll, if you do say so yourself
yeah, no ‘i’m a monster’ angst here, you’re loving the power-up
you’ve got to treat it like a cool new power-up or you will cry actually tbh i lied about the no-angst thing a new body is disorienting
your only real concern is douxie
not concerned for long tho, he sees you and the first thing out of his mouth is “nuclear!”
and he senses your concern, so he does go out of his way to assure you that boy, girl, enby, or half-troll, he loves you for your soul, darling
also again half-troll! you is hot as hell so he’s not really losing anything here 👀
he makes sure you know that too, not to let any insecurities fester
him raking his eyes up and down you gives the opposite effect of the dread merlin sent down your spine doing it
anyways,,,
doux helps out a lot more in the eternal night
like helps merlin re-defeat and re-seal morgana
he’ll do it again in few weeks but with a bigger role you know, this is practice
thank merlin for that edge YOU ARE THE LAST TROLLHUNTER YOU ARE VICTORIOUS YOUVE GOT GUNMARS HEAD IN YOUR HANDS HAHAHA
but now you’ve got to go to new jersey
douxie’s been instructed to stay in arcadia tho 🥺
it’s okay, you’ll see each other again soon
sooner than you realize
and until then you talk each other to sleep every night over the phone <3
merlins glad, actually. he’s glad hisirdoux found some solace. even if it is with the lamb he was raising for the slaughter. maybe things will go okay for them. the time map suggests it might be so
hisirdoux may have done things in a way he didn’t quite approve of, but that’s because he’s becoming his own wizard, and merlin is proud

Imagine being pregnant in TrollMarket
~ You were one of Jims teachers. Recently pregnant and left alone to raise the baby you moved to Arcadia for a fresh start. However monsters and mayem were not on the pregnancy itinerary and now you've stumbled into a whole world of trouble that doesn't involve your pregnancy problems.
~ Jim swears to you as long as he's Trollhunter no harm will come to you or your baby and he's so sorry that you got caught up in this mess. However your quick to forgive and soon the Trollhunter team becomes your family, the kids becoming your own children in a way.
~ Jim is quick to cook you anything you want. If you have a weird pregnancy craving he'll make whatever you want. Pickled pears? Got it! Something super sweet? Of course. Something really spicy? Sure. Icecream? He'll get the machine and make you some! He loves cooking for you and is glad he can help outside of trollhunting.
~ Toby throughout the entire process becomes your hype man. Becoming pregnant can be hard on your body and how you see yourself. Especially since the hormones make everything seem like a big deal. Sometimes the weight is upsetting or you feel fat and like a slob other times your so tired but feel lazy for taking a nap. He's there to tell you your amazing and beautiful and you should always feel that way because it's true. Self care is key and he's determined to make sure your taken care of the whole pregnancy.
~ Claires an expert in pregnancies because of her baby brother. She helps you make a list of things you should get for the upcoming baby and enjoys maternity shopping with you. You may be a pregnant lady but that doesn't mean you should be forced to live in sweatpants for nine months. She also helps you pick out cute baby clothes and toys for the nursery.
~ Poor Blinky in his excitement mixes up troll customs with human ones and creates weird hybrid things that don't actually exist and defiently don't help the pregnancy.
~ The kids and trolls keep up on absolutely everything. You're very well taken care of the whole pregnancy. Jim makes sure your eating. Toby makes sure you take care of yourself. And Claire helps you with house stuff when you need it. Draal, Blinky, and Aarrrgh also get very involved. They want to hear about your doctor appointments and see all the sonograms and ultrasounds. (Good luck getting their hands off you when the baby begins kicking)
~ You never got a baby shower so the troll team surprises you. Claire organizes the party, Jim handles the cake and food, meanwhile Toby invites all your friends and decorates. You get gifts from trolls, people, and even changelings. Strickler didn't come but he sent an expensive gift and a nice card.
~ You don't think much of it as it's a busy fun day full of gifts, laughter, games, and love. When the parties over they have one last surprise for you. Taking you upstairs the kids are excited to show you a recently decorated nursey!
~ Blinky had painted the walls of the room to look like an enchanted forest. There was elegant trees with birds and critters and flowers full of bees and butterflies. Soft green carpet laid on the floor and you nearly cried as you looked around. Draal had built you a beautiful crib of wood with little pieces of heart stone hanging off of it. And Aarrrgh smiled as he'd put in some shelves and arranged toys. Stepping further into the room taking it in, the crib was full of fluffy pillows and soft blankets. All of them were fantasy themed with pixies or tales of fae. Hand made dolls of the trolls were in a toy bin and plushies of goblins and other creatures were placed around the room. There was a gorgoues rocking chair in the corner and next to it a shelf full of young troll books and childrens toys. There was also a wooden changing station with soft pillows for your baby that held all the supplies you needed to clean and change them. You cry telling them this is the best gift ever.
~ Bular found you by accident. About half way through your second term Goblins were chasing the trollhunting team and out of options they hid at your house since you were the closest. The U.V lights you installed made the goblins flee and you thought that was the end of that until a changeling tried to break into your home a couple days later.
~ The team decides Trollmarket was the safest place for you. Staying in Trollmarket until the baby comes and you can safely move everyone is excited. Trolls may not love humans but the fact that your carrying a life inside of you is seen as a glorious thing. Trollmarket would never turn a pregnant person away even if they are a human. You get an influx of gifts from trolls around the market and they all make a point to smile and wave whenever they see you, something they didn't do before.
~ If your feet ever become sore, don't worry about it. In human standards you may be big but in troll ones your small. Blinky, Aarrrgh, Draal they'll carry you if they see you struggling. It's also a troll instinct to want to feed anything that's tiny so be prepared for trolls constantly offering you strange things to eat because they think you should be bigger for the baby. Gifts are a common occurrence as you live with Blinky. Weapons. Troll toys. Books. You also receive a lot of interesting letters.
~ Blinky tells the babies stories every night before you got to bed. He reads human fairy tales but also tells troll lore excited. Aarrrgh snuggles next to you and wherever the baby kicks he laughs. You always go to bed warm and happy as your baby rests soundly in your stomach.
~ Draal gets very protective of you when you locate to Trollmarket. He was protective before but after the attack he's now a guard dog, constantly by your side unless the team really needs him. When the baby starts kicking he's nervous to touch your belly at first. He'd seen the others do it and he wanted to as well. Taking his hand you gently put it your stomach and his eyes widen as he feels a strong kick against it.
"They're a warrior!" He states excited and you chuckle. With who they'd be raised with you had no doubt they'd be a warrior.
~ Aarrrgh is very cuddly the entire pregnancy. He wants the baby to be warm and safe so he often curls up around you when you take naps. He's often nuzzling your baby bump and asking questions. Human pregnancies and troll ones are very different and sometimes he gets confused but he does his best.
~ Blinky reads way to many books that Claire brings over about babies. Now he thinks he's an expert on all things baby related. The entire pregnancy he gives ludicrous advice thinking it'll help the pregnancy and the baby. It's sweet but he becomes a bit overbearing and the kids sometimes have to intervene.
~ Vendel gets annoyed when the others have to leave and he's stuck with you. But as you waddle around the Heartstone complaining about sore feet and back pains he pauses. He leads you somewhere to sit down. He gives you a chunk of heartstone to hold and wraps you in blankets so your warm. Wandering away he comes back with tea for the both of you and starts a pleasant chat.
~ You've wandered into a dangerous world and your worried about your baby, about the kids. They shouldn't be alone... They shouldn't be taking care of you, your the adult! Vendel notices the sad way you say alone and care. He sees your lip tremble and it hits him your scared. He softly asks you if your afraid to be alone, if your afraid you won't get the care you need. Your hands instinctively touch the baby bump and your thoughts wander to the father who'd walked out on you. You nod feeling tears in your eyes and he gently puts his head to yours humming something soft and soothing.
"You are not alone here and you will be cared for here."
You begin sobbing relieved as he rubs your back. No you suppose you had nothing to worry about.
~ Vendel knows a lot about human pregnancies thanks to asking you and doing some light research. Blinky likes to challenge the old man about it and they often bicker about what's good and not good for you and the baby. It can be quit entertaining if not alarming.
~ Vendel gives you potions for morning sickness so you no longer puke when you wake up and he gives you tea to sooth your aching muscles. He gifts you a heartstone necklace so that peace may always be with you as you carry the baby.
~ Your in Blinkies library one day. The kids are out patrolling and your enjoying a nice night when suddenly your soaked. At first you assume you peed yourself and are a tad emabrassed but you know Blinky will understand. Calling him in for some assistance he pauses seeing you and that's when the contractions start. You didn't pee, your water just broke.
~ Going to a hospital may take too long and getting out of the canal was too dangerous at this point. You're very carefully picked up by Aarrrgh before your rushed to the heartstone. Someone had ran ahead so Vendel was getting ready as you were brought in.
~ There are soft blankets to lay on and your put on a Heartstone slab which eases the pain of labor. Trolls excitedly wait outside of the heartstone for the baby to come. Hours pass and although your sweaty and exhausted you can't help but smile as your baby is placed in your arms.
~ The kids run in along with Draal and they stare at you holding your newborn. You're covered in blankets and sweaty but you couldn't be happier as you stare at your baby. They're swaddled in a soft furry blanket holding a chunk of heartstone with wide eyes. They look around and you smile.
"Hi... Hi... I'm your mama..." You mumble holding them close. "This is your family..."
~ Vendel takes the baby to check on them and you sleep after the draining expeirnce when you wake you smile holding your child close. Vendel was the official grandpa and you'd named Aarrrgh and Blinky the godfathers of the child. You said the kids could be sisters and brothers if they wanted and you told Draal he was an uncle. They were all very excited.
~ You give your baby a human name and a Trollish one. One you'd use in the human one and one you'd use in TrollMarket. Holding them close and looking at your family you smile. You wouldn't have it any other way.

Clearing the Air
Because we need more Douxie and Jim bonding moments. ...And I wanted to write these two mooning over their girlfriends.
Also on; AO3
                                               ~*~*~*~*~*~
It was a normal day in Arcadia Oaks, or well...as normal as it got for our heroes nowadays with all that had been happening in the mortal and mystical worlds. Point was none of their current big threats were in front of them and they weren't being chased by goblins or gnomes so yeah, normal day for the Trollhunters. A day to try to catch up on missed homework, play video games or hang out with friends who didn't have the weight of the worlds on their shoulders. Or, in Jim Lake Jr's case, do a favor for your girlfriend because you couldn't say no when she called and begged you to help someone instead of her because she had to now watch her baby brother. Now here he was, assisting their newest team member organize some new books at the Arcane Books store.
He didn't mind helping, really, he was doing Claire a favor after all and he'd do practically anything for her and there wasn't really anything wrong with Douxie...The guy was a real life wizard of all things! And had known and worked under Merlin, the very same who had created his amulet, which was honestly just a little awesome he had to admit, but...but he still couldn't help but, well...be jealous of the guy! He was always so buddy-buddy with Claire and making her laugh and giving her little tips on magic and a ton of other things! And of course Jim knew Claire was her own person and not an object and could have other friends but he just...he just couldn't help thinking some days that she was his girlfriend and that this show-off, flirty wizard needed to back-off! Of course he couldn't -would never actually- say anything as he didn't want to upset the raven haired witch he'd been crushing on for so long.
Still he just couldn't fight that ugly, awful, tight feeling of jealousy in his chest whenever he saw the pair together or when the wizard would inquire about doing something with her.
“So Claire had to watch that little scamp of a brother, eh?” Came the accented voice of the, much older, teen as he came back down from the second level for more books.
“Yeah, guess her parents had something to do.” Jim shrugged, not really turning to face Douxie as he shelved more books. He scolded himself inwardly for the flat response, his mother would not be proud of him, but every time Douxie brought up Claire Jim felt the jealousy monster clawing it's way up his throat and he immediately went out of character.
Douxie blinked and tilted his head, still curious as to why the newest Trollhunter seemed to be always giving him a partial cold shoulder. The rest of the gang seemed pretty accepting, Toby was always begging him to see some magic and of course he had hit it off with Claire, but the teen across him seemed to be keeping him at arms length. And he kept feeling glares at his back from time to time. Unsure what he possibly could've done to the usually kindhearted and accepting teen, Douxie scratched at head, flashing a look at Archie (who was, of course, feigning sleep on the counter), before shrugging and collecting a few more books out of a box. He'd figure it out one day.
They worked in relative silence, every attempt Douxie made to converse with Jim to pass the time becoming stilted and stiff. He had managed to start a promising conversation about cooking with the talented young chef but then he made a little quip about how he must of charmed Claire real good with his skills and maybe he could teach him some things, the wizard was hopeless in the kitchen despite his many years on earth, but something he said had shut Jim right down again. Frowning, there had to be some way to figure out what Jim's problem with him could possibly be.
“Oh, yeah! Don't let me forget to pass on a CD for Claire. Was gonna lend it to her but since she's not here...” Douxie said, tucking another book away.
“Ah...sure. I'll try to remember.” Jim muttered, firmly not looking at him from the other end of the store.
Huh...Douxie wasn't sure if he was crazy or not but a thought occurred to him just then, that Jim seemed to get closed off and tense whenever he mentioned Claire. He knew from his time talking to the budding witch that there hadn't been any fight between the two and, obviously, Jim was here on her request since she couldn't be herself, so why...? Suddenly it clicked as he listened to Jim mutter to himself and he had to shake his head. He really could still be such a moppet. The boy was jealous.
“Hey, Mate.” He couldn't believe he hadn't seen it before now. The glares, the grumbles, the way he sometimes wound his arm tighter around Claire.
“Hmm?”
“You're jealous, aren't you?”
“What?! No!!” Jim said frantically, all but giving it away with his reaction. How in the world had he figured it out?! He'd been trying to hide it!
Douxie chuckled and shook his head, crossing his arms as he leaned against a shelf, watching the young Trollhunter try and sort himself out, “It's alright, Mate.”
“No. It's not!” Jim said, throwing his hands in the air, “I know I shouldn't feel jealous but I am and-and I don't want to do something that might push Claire away but like I-I just can't help it!” He couldn't stop rambling now, trying to explain his feelings and why he kind of disliked feeling so jealous because somewhere deep down he knew it was silly.
“Jim.” He looked up, blue eyes meeting Douxie's hazel. “It really is alright.” The mage held up a hand to prevent Jim from speaking before he was done, knowing what he needed to hear, “Clare and I are just friends. Honestly I kind of see her as a little sister some days.”
“Really?” So all this jealousy really was for nothing?
“Mm-hmm.” The older boy nodded before gesturing with a slightly flourish as he moved, “And I'll have you know I've been quite happily taken for the past five hundred years or so! So, you really have nothing to worry about.”
“Really? You have a girlfriend?” Jim supposed that shouldn't be as big a shock as it was but well...it was considering just how old Douxie really was.
“Mm-hmm...” Douxie hummed, face going soft with a mushy sort of smile that Jim knew he too wore whenever he thought of Claire. “And she kick my arse if I made such a colossal mistake of breaking up with her. Not that I'd ever want to, mind.”
Jim nodded, understanding that feeling, “Yeah.”
“So, we cool, Mate?” Douxie asked, holding out a fist toward Jim.
Jim returned the fist bump with a smirk, “Heh, yeah, we're cool.” And wow was it a relief to know he'd had been worried for nothing.
And with the matter settled, the two finished the rest of the afternoon sorting and shelving books, talking and gushing over their respective girlfriends. Archie merely rolled his eyes, watching unnoticed at the counter, and shook his head at the two lovesick men before going back to sleep.
~*~BONUS~*~
A few days later found Jim leaning against the counter at the cafe, sipping at the coffee Douxie had just handed him as they watched their girlfriends talking outside, Claire holding in laughter as Zoe gestured with her hands. “So...How much are we gonna regret introducing those two?”
Douxie chuckled, “Ooh-ho....immensely.”
~*~*~*~*~*~
Just let these two bond over their amazing girlfriends! Also let them sleep because they go through so much. Anyway, hope you enjoyed!

Just wanna say that post-Wizards Jim actually feels a lot like Frodo. You know, I have a friend who keeps pointing out the excellent fact that after LotR, Frodo chose not to return home with Sam Gamgee, because he had been through too much. He had seen too much to just go home to gardening and chatty neighbors and resume his ordinary life. And I kind of saw Jim hit that point when he became monster!Jim.
Up until then, he had been kind of like Arcadia’s secret friendly local Spiderman. Sure, he fought enemies the rest of the people didn’t even know of, and they were completely unaware of what he sacrificed for them, and sure, he struggled to balance more “after-school activities” and was way more challenged in his emotional health and his maturity than them.
But his life was still grounded enough for him to worry about school grades, and have his harmless daily quarrel with Steve, and go on double dates, and attend concerts and the like. It remained local, and was therefore manageable. A big bonus was that his enemies had no interest in going public either.
It even remained manageable when he turned half-troll, because then all of Arcadia found out about the world below their feet anyway and they all participated in fighting off Morgana together. They successfully prevented the battle from becoming global, and therefore, the Arcadians were now all involved in this. The burden of Jim’s troll-ness was eased for him because he could have still gone to school despite it. It wasn’t an issue in that way because everyone knew now. Also, all his other relationships definitely offered their support.
But becoming mentally corrupted must have changed his character irreversibly in my opinion. Bearing that memory had to have had a lasting effect on him. Nobody else in his vicinity could relate to him getting this lost to themselves. Claire may have shared the general experience, but it was her first real fight that she had enough strength for to master it. Also, she spent most of her time actually innocent and oblivious to the corruption. Jim, on the other hand...Jim chose this for himself. He thought he was doing the right thing, the necessary thing, and he easily could have killed a lot of his friends in the process. His corruption was definitely harmful to his relationship with Claire. He could have hurt her. His corrupted self WANTED to hurt her. That must surely have put some strain on their relationship after he turned back human.
It also sent a definitive sign to everyone else who followed Jim that their leader couldn’t be trusted with all of his decisions. I mean, he rejected the Darklands lesson of not doing things on his own again. Toby, Claire and Blinky must have been mad as heck at him for ignoring this rule another time. I mean, not only did it show that he still didn’t trust them to help him, it also literally endangered all their lives. So... Tobes and Blinky surely had to have had a serious chat with Jim after the end of his corruption as well.
Imagine the guilt Jim had to have felt about his mistake. He had to go home and tell his mother what he did to the sweet boy she raised. And she would hug him and cry happy tears because he was human again, but to him it would feel like she didn’t understand because she hadn’t seen him that way. And so he self-distanced from all his loved ones AGAIN, all because they couldn’t follow him to the place his mind had gone while he was a monster.
Maybe he was able to talk about it a little bit with Douxie. Because the 900yo surely had plenty of dark moments up his resumé as well. They would talk about managing the dark places, and it would make Jim feel a little better, but not in his day-to-day life. He’d entered into the superhero league now. Where real connections were only possible during the brief times where he was together with others like him, aka the Guardians of Arcadia. Talking to “normal” people was pointless from this moment on.
At the beginning of ToA Rott, Jim is isolated in a way no one else around him is. They can still interact with normal people because they haven’t been through as much as him. But to him, they’re all he’s got now.
It makes him fight harder for them. It makes him cry harder when one of them dies. Also, he’s tired. Tired at 18 years of age. So, so tired. It’s about the fate of the world now and he shares just about the full load of that only with Douxie.
That’s why I can’t really picture him living another life after Rott. It would need another near-death-scenario where the others do some serious convincing that his life is still worth living. To make him fight back for his life because they still love him. To convince him that the ordinary is still worth it, and worthy of him.
So either he dies, or he almost dies and comes back from the dead, or he only regains the amulet after regaining himself. Not because “he’s the Trollhunter”, but exactly because he learns to be himself without it.
Either way, the boy needs to learn how to make better choices again. And learn how to trust himself again after being a monster.
And it becomes clear that there is no age of Trollhunters after him.
Now that would be an arc I could enjoy watching.

Between Daylight and Darkness
Chapter 1
Next>
Ao3
“You have any idea what this is about?”
“Nope, Toby just said that Jim found something unusual and wants to meet up at his house to check it out,” Mary glanced down at her phone, rereading the text message that said as much.
First Jim ran out during the middle of history class, acting cagey the rest of the day, and now this. With the events of the past year fresh in her mind, she’d done her best not to push beyond asking if he was ok. Which Jim had brushed off with ‘I’ll tell you later’.
An honest answer for sure, but not a particularly reassuring one. Toby had promised to talk to him one on one later, which brought them all here. Obviously they weren’t going to push Jim if it was something private. But Mary would be lying if she said she wasn’t dying for some answers.
The three of them headed up the front steps of Jim’s house, Claire stepping forward to knock on the door. And after hearing Toby call ‘It’s unlocked’, let themselves inside.
Heading into the house, Mary saw Jim and Toby sitting in the living room, Jim clutching something shiny in his hands.
“Hey guys,” Darci tossed her bag aside and took a seat on the couch, Mary and Claire doing the same “What’s up?”
Jim hung his head and let out a shaky breath “So this morning, I overheard Eli saying something,”
“He better not be trying to get into the school’s basement again,” Mary mumbled.
The last time Eli’d tried to uncover the secret mafia treasure stash buried underneath the school, which by the way, didn’t exist, he’d busted a pipe and the entire school had to be evacuated and classes had been canceled for a week and a half while they mopped up the water and fixed everything.
She was honestly surprised he hadn’t gotten suspended for that.
“No not that, Eli was saying…he said on his way to school he saw monsters fighting under the canal bridge. Monsters with stone for skin.”
Just like that the atmosphere of the room shifted from casual to tense. All four of them sitting up at attention, eyes locked on Jim.
Claire ever so slightly eased herself forward “So were you…”
“That’s just the thing,” Jim propped himself up with his hands on his knees, looking around and meeting each of their gazes in turn “I was nowhere near the canals this morning. I stayed inside until I changed, then headed to Main Street to stop at the bakery and took the long way to school,”
Mary let out a small breath, tension she hadn’t even realized was building between her shoulders uncoiling. No one had spotted him, Jim was in the clear and his secret was safe. But this particular coincidence still cut far too close for comfort.
“Then later, during history class I heard something…someone calling my name. It kept getting louder and no one else could hear it but me so I ran out and followed it–”
Jim cut himself off and pulled in a deep breath “I followed it to the canal bridge, and I found this,”
He reached out and dropped something on the coffee table with a clang.
“This was the thing calling my name, I pulled it out of a pile of rubble underneath the bridge, it hasn’t said anything since,”
Jim sat back as the rest of them leaned in, staring down at the object on the table.
If she’d heard this story from anyone besides this specific friend group Mary would have laughed in their face and told them to come up with a more believable prank. Mary wasn’t laughing now.
Jim would never joke about something like this. And all five of them had seen far stranger things than talking inanimate objects.
Claire reached an arm out then hesitated “Can I…”
“Sure go ahead,”
Permission granted, Claire plucked the object up and held it up close to her face to examine it. Darci and Mary leaned in over her shoulders, watching with keen interest as Claire turned the object over in her hands.
“It kind of looks like…a pocket watch, or some kind of clock,”
Mary was inclined to agree, the object was a circle about the size of a phone, silvery metal framework and hands around a shimmering blue face with writing around the edge. But that was where the similarities ended. The language written on it wasn’t any Mary recognized, looking more like fantasy runes than anything else, the gears and hands inside enmeshed together in a jumbled mess unlike any clock Mary had ever seen.
Claire glanced up from the object back towards Jim “Can I try something?”
“Go ahead,”
She turned her gaze back down, raising a single finger to push at the largest hand “If I can just–”
Without warning the object shot straight out of Claire’s hands, making all of them jump, slamming into Jim’s chest and knocking him back against the couch with a grunt.
Before any of them even had a chance to react the object started whiring where it was pressed up against Jim’s shirt. Gears spinning and hangs ticking faster than Mary’s eyes could track, blue face flashing behind them, faster and faster and faster–
Abruptly the object froze with a resounding click.
A glowing ball of light drifted out of the object, all of them watching frozen in shock as the ball drifted up and vanished into Jim’s chest. Before she could even process what she’d just seen another ball of light floated out and drifted into Jim, then another, then two more–
Mary felt a scream building in the back of her throat, only to be cut off in a strangled gulp as the entire room lurched.
Her fingers dug into the couch cushings, desperately trying to steady herself as a wave of dizziness rocked into her. And when she saw strands of her hair drifting up and around her face, swaying in the completely still room, she knew that the sensation wasn’t just in her head. Pens, coasters, and various other small objects drifting up into the air around her.
Claire was able to anchor herself to, but Toby, Darci, and Jim weren’t so lucky, floating up into off the ground with shouts and yelps. Floundering in the air along with lighter pieces of furniture.
Mary’s heart was in her throat,  stomach doing flip flops, if she looked in the wrong direction or even thought about what was actually happening she was going to throw up. From out of nowhere there was a sudden burst of light in the air around Jim. And when Mary looked again a piece of metal, the same silver as the object, materialized in the air in front of him, then another flash, then another, light and metal filling the air around him.
Seeing the shape of the metal surrounding him Mary’s brain started to connect several sets of dots, but before the picture could take shape in her mind all the metal flew towards Jim in a blinding flash, knocking them all back and returning gravity to the room in an instant.
Mary sagged back onto the couch with a gasp of releif. Breath coming in sharp pants and trembling all over, fingers still in a death grip on the cushions. She shook her head to try and clear her vision only to freeze.
Jim was now standing there in the wrecked living room in a shining silver suit of armor, a large sword strapped to his back and the round object embedded in his chest plate. Staring at his gauntleted arms with eyes blown wide and jaw hanging open.
For a few seconds no one spoke. All of them, Jim included, standing there completely stupefied.
The silence was broken when Toby let out a low whistle.
“Now that’s what I call magic,”
Mary’s heart was still hammering, brain still reeling, dizziness from earlier not yet fully dissipated, but curiosity overpowered the shock and she pried her fingers off the couch and stood up.
This wasn’t any kind of costume or cardboard imitation, this was full on real deal metal plate armor. Enough to make Jim the envy of every history and ren fair nerd in the state. And that sword didn’t look like it was for show either.
Toby rapped his knuckles against his chest, producing a metallic ringing sound “Ok did any of the things you saw or heard this morning imply ‘magical suit of armor’?”
“...no I can confidently say that this came out of nowhere,”
“I’m kind of surprised you’re being so chill about this,” Mary walked up and leaned in to examine the object embedded in his chestplate, now softly ticking.
Jim let out an awkward chuckle “Oh I’m doing all my freaking out internally,”
“How do we know for sure that the armor itself is magic?” Claire joined them “For all we know it’s just a regular suit of armor,”
One of Darci’s eyebrows arced up “Claire I’m pretty sure that regular suits of armor don’t appear out of thin air,”
“But maybe it’s just the watch that’s magical and it summons a regular suit of armor?”
“Hang on I think I know a way to test that,” Toby rushed out of the room “Be right back,”
“Ok let’s just table the armor and its potential magical properties for the moment and go back to this,” Jim pointed at the object now embedded in his chestplate “What is it? Where did it come from? Why does it summon a suit of armor of all things!?”
Mary stepped in closer then froze once she spotted something on the watch, leaning her face right up towards Jim’s chest to make sure her eyes weren’t playing tricks on her.
“Uh Mary what–”
“The writing, on the watch, it’s in english now,”
“What!? What does it say?”
Mary squinted, craning her neck to read the circular script.
“For the glory of…Merlin…Daylight…is…mine…to…command…”
“Merlin!?” Darci started “Like ye olden times Camelot Merlin? I thought he was just a myth,”
“Most historians agree that Merlin existed as some kind of advisor to Arthur,” Claire sided up to Mary to stare at the object herself “But all the stories about him having magical powers were supposed to be exaggera–”
“I’m back!” Toby rushed into the room “With the proper equipment for scientific analysis,”
Toby came up to Jim and placed something against his armored shoulder. As soon as he took his hand away the object fell to the ground. Expression scrunched in concentration, Toby repeated the action twice with the same effect.
Mary glanced down at the objects gathering in a pile at Jim’s feet, it took a few seconds for her to recognize them as fridge magnets.
“Uh…Tobes what exactly are magnets supposed to tell us?”
“Traditional plate armor is steel based,” Toby said, placing another magnet on Jim’s chest only to have it immediately slide to the ground “Which means that these should at least stick a little, so the only explanation is this armor doesn’t have any steel in it at all,”
“So what would it be made of?” Darci stepped closer “Silver?”
“It’d be pretty crappy armor if it was made of silver,” Claire said “Platinum or titanium maybe?”
Toby grabbed Jim’s arm and lifted it up, bending the elbow back and forth “I’d have to do more testing to be sure, but I’m pretty sure it’s not any of those three. If it was silver I’d expect at least a little tarnish, and it feels way too light to be platinum or titanium,”
Jim huffed out a breath “Ok guys as fun as this all is I gotta take a break to–”
Abruptly he went ramrod straight, face going chalky.
“Jim?” Mary took half a step away from him “Jim what’s wrong?”
“I change in five minutes,”
“Oh….kay….”
“Guys there’s a reason I get undressed when I change. If just growing while wearing jeans sucks a suit of armor’s going to be….”
Mary could pinpoint the exact second everyone’s expressions changed from confusion to pure horror, hers included.
Oh shit.
“Ok we’ll get it off we gotta get it off,” Toby reached up, grabbed Jim’s chestplate and started tugging at it, Darci scrambled around and did the same at his back. But despite the two of them pulling with all of their might the armor wasn’t budging.
“Hang on I think I have an idea,” Claire dashed out of the room, the two of them still frantically pulling and straining at the armor while Jim stood awkwardly between them
Mary hung back, if Toby and Darci’s yanking wasn’t doing the trick hers wouldn’t make a difference. She kept trying to think around this, how was the armor attached, what was holding it in place–
“Step back!” Claire rushed back into the room, a metal spatula grasped tight in her hand. Toby barely had enough time to scramble out of the way as Claire charged at Jim, wedging the spatula underneath the object.
“Hang on,” Claire pressed the handle down further “Almost–”
Blue light erupted from the object, rocking the room with a wave of concussive energy, much stronger than the earlier one. Throwing couches and tables aside and slamming all four of them back.
Mary’s back hit the wall with bruising force, the air knocked from her lungs and vision flickering, a pained wheeze escaping her as she crumpled to the ground.
“Guys!” Jim raced around, whipping his head around the room towards each of them “Are you ok!?”
“Fine,” Mary’s voice came out coarser than she would have liked, gripping the side of an upturned bookshelf and pulling herself to her feet “Just a little bruised,”
The tension didn’t leave Jim’s face, glancing around at all of them and the scattered furniture “What the heck was– hrk,”
Mary knew Jim more or less shapeshifted from human to his blue horned form every sunset, even if she’d never personally seen it happen. But she’d been around Jim enough that she knew the process had to be quick, even if it involved growing horns.
The reality was even faster than she expected.
It reminded her of the time lapse edits in documentaries, showing tectonic plates pushing flat land into towering mountains over millions of years in a matter of seconds.
Pale skin darkened into blue, limbs lengthening and thickening, facial features shifting, fangs and horns appearing as rapidly and gently as frost disappearing. If she’d blinked at the wrong time she would have missed it.
She was so dazzled by Jim’s transformation it took her a few seconds to notice something equally shocking.
“Dude…” Toby whispered “The armor…”
Jim didn’t look up, busy staring down at his hands and arms, or more likely the armor that now fit them perfectly.
Somehow the armor had grown along with the rest of him.
“Ok, wow…” Darci whispered “That armor is definitely magic,”
Jim glanced up “Yeah I…I guess it is,”
Mary didn’t say anything but her mind was going a mile a minute. She didn’t have all the pieces yet, none of them did. But between the armor being able to ‘magically’ accommodate both of his forms and Eli’s claims of creatures of stone skin near where Jim found it, she had a gut feeling that whatever this object and armor were, they were connected to the magic that made Jim change every sunset and sunrise.
Now they just had to figure out how.

Hello!!! Jim here from the @theonceandfuturetrollhunter blog, but I'm making this text anonymous because Clotpole (who owns my blog) doesn't want the reply back- I'll have to search for it instead 😂😒
Anyway, we love your headcanons and the AUs you create with adks back here in Arcadia- Claire is obsessed with reading them- and we wanted to know how you wpould take to this AU...
What if mine and Claire's roles were swapped over (me being the wizard and Claire being the Trollhunter) but we found out about our respective roles at the times we did in the show (me first, then Claire)?
Can't wait for the reply!!!!
:)
Hi, Jim:)
This ask is something I really like, so I've put it up my queue of asks (there are more than thirty of those in my inbox, holy trolls!).
Anyway, to the AU.
So, in this AU Kanjigar manages to escape during his battle with Bular, so Jim and Toby pass through the canals as usual, with nothing happening. Toby sees that his bro is slightly disappointed that it's just a regular day and suggests investigating the stone monsters Eli mentioned. Obviously, Toby doesn't believe in any supernatural creatures, thinking those are just another one of Eli's delusions, but he thinks Jim needs some fun (and a minor adventure is better than no adventure at all).
It turns out to be a horrible mistake as Bular is pissed because of his failure and is actively looking for a consolation snack. Jim and Toby look like a wonderful meal for him. Bular nearly catches Toby - and it's when Jim awakes his shadow magic, firstly blasting and injuring Bular and then teleporting Toby and himself to the safe location. Jim collapses afterward as he has pushed past his limits.
The next morning, Toby is excited, but Jim is conflicted as he isn't sure it's the kind of adventure he wants. Besides, his newfound magic keeps acting on its own, complicating his life.
Jim comes to Strickler to talk about his issue, but chickens at the last second and tells some lie. Strickler initially believes that it's something trivial, but later notices Jim falling through the shadow portal, and everything clicks. After all, last night, Bular came back enraged, cursing some fleshbag wizard who injured him and swearing to kill that bastard. Strickler deduces that the wizard in question could be Jim. Unlike Bular, he wonders if he can use Jim's talent (after all, all the changelings are connected to shadow magic) and decides to get even closer to his student.
Meanwhile, Douxie visits Jim (as he learned about him from Archie who witnessed the encounter with Bular). Douxie wouldn't get involved in most cases, but apparently, Jim's magic is too strong for someone born during this age, and Jim lacks control, which could easily lead to a lot of damage. So Douxie decides to teach him a bit.
Because Bular has a personal vendetta against Jim, soon enough Kanjigar contacts him as well. Jim learns about the Trollhunter and his mission and proposes to help him (after some initial shock, Jim starts to wonder if there is some meaning to the fact that he got magic). Kanjigar is against it - he has worked alone since the very beginning, and well, Jim is a kid. Jim and Toby still sneak to the Trollmarket, and meet Blinky and Aaarrrgghh there. Blinky believes that having a trollhunting team might not be such a bad idea, so now there are four of them trying to help Kanjigar. Draal eventually joins too, becoming the fifth member. Jim keeps this fact from Douxie because Douxie forbids him to risk his life needlessly (out of concern that there might be another spike in Jim's developing magic which can be harmful to his soul). As for Toby, he gets his Warhammer early on.
Meanwhile, Strickler gets close to Barbara, wondering if she knows her son's secret. He discovers rather fast that she is in the dark about everything and uses it for his own profit.
Much like in the canon, Jim is in the school play, but he skips less because his outings are more controlled (be it magic lessons with Douxie or visits to the Trollmarket), so he has less friction with Claire. Claire still senses that Jim hides something and tries to talk to him about it.
Jim and Toby are the ones who discover the hideout at the museum and basically trigger all the changeling-related events, including Enrique's kidnapping. Enrique is picked because Jim is a regular guest at Claire's house by this point, and Strickler feels that he can use another pair of eyes.
Jim is the one who goes to the concert with Claire in this AU, while Toby babysits Enrique. Claire is initially upset with Jim afterward as she thinks that Toby and Jim decided to prank her together, but after giving it some thought, tries to investigate what is wrong.
Jim still gets Grit-shaka from Draal and ends up exposing his connection to trolls before Douxie before running to fight Bular. Much like in the canon, Bular exposes Strickler.
Claire catches her fake brother herself and encounters Jim, asking if he knows too. Jim decides to tell her everything.
Kanjigar decides to face Bular head-on together with his team (plus Douxie, who joins at the last second). Together they slay him and recover the Killahead.
Now that everything is more or less safe, Claire comes to Kanjigar and asks him to save her brother. Jim and Toby join her pleas, and Jim says that he'll travel to the Darklands himself if Kanjigar disagrees. Kanjigar agrees after some consideration (the previous Trollhunters are against it, but Kanjigar reminds them that his team has slain Bular).
Strickler frees Angor Rot, much like in the canon. Angor, however, disobeys the first command to attack the Trollhunter and judge his skill and goes for Jim instead (he senses his shadow magic and decides to get rid of someone who can possibly become a second Morgana). In this fight, Jim manages to wrestle out the shadow staff. After some examination, Douxie allows him to use it - as the shadow staff, apparently, stabilizes Jim's rather chaotic magic.
The Trollhunters recover the first triumbric stone, but during the quest at the Quagawumps' swamp, the tragedy happens - Kanjigar dies, taking the hit from Angor meant for Claire (it's something that will haunt her for a while). The amulet chooses her as the next champion, but she is conflicted wondering if she can be a good one. After all, she couldn't protect her brother, and Kanjigar died because of her. Draal also doesn't help as he questions her worth (he isn't as bad as he was with Jim in the canon, but his words are still mean).
Jim, however, believes in Claire and says that she can be the best (after all, she is a quick learner, brave, and loyal). Claire starts training, hoping to be able to catch up quickly. Draal warms up eventually and comes to help her.
Angor doesn't make any deal with the Trollhunters in this AU, as he doesn't trust Jim by default. Douxie is the one who suggests stealing Inferna Copula from Strickler, but much like in the canon it ends destroyed, and Angor unleashes his anger at Strickler, Jim, and everyone else. Barbara walks in amid the fight and gets wounded. In this AU she learns everything without losing her memories. Obviously, she is mad at Strickler for using her to get to Jim.
Angor Rot is the first Claire's major opponent, but she manages to defeat him with the help of Jim, Toby, and Draal. Draal feels that his father is avenged and thanks Claire.
However, for Claire, it's not enough. She doesn't want to lose another team member, so goes to the Darklands alone (besides, she was the one who requested that mission to start with). She saves Enrique but ends up trapped.
And here's the problem - only the Trollhunter can open the portal to the Darklands. Jim tries to find an alternative solution and finds a book in Douxie's library about summoning spirits and letting them possess the body. There is a risk, however, as the one who performs it is more vulnerable to possession later, but Jim is willing to risk. He summons Kanjigar's spirit and the team heads into the Darklands to save Claire.
Gunmar getting out isn't the only consequence of that venture. Morgana senses Jim's mind's vulnerability and starts to take over. She resurrects Angor first, then contacts Gunmar.
No one realizes that something is off with Jim at first, chalking most of the stuff to the shadow magic acting up. Claire gets suspicious first and goes to Douxie, demanding if all of that is actually shadow magic. Douxie admits that his fellow student Morgana was odd at times too. After hearing that, Claire is even more worried, and she and Douxie encounter Jim - only to realize that Morgana already fully possesses him.
Claire and Douxie restrain possessed Jim and decide to travel inside his mind to free him. They also bring Toby and Barbara with them, as more meaningful people should make it more likely to succeed. Jim is free, and fighting Morgana gives him a better understanding of his own magic.
With Gunmar and Morgana around the team decides to wake up Merlin (per Douxie's suggestion). And, well, Merlin isn't excited to learn that Douxie got involved and even took a shadowmancer as an apprentice (he is pretty much convinced that Jim will end the same as Morgana if not worse).
Merlin also plans to turn Claire into a half-troll, but as Douxie is around, he investigates the ingredients and discovers what they might do. The team encounters Merlin, and he admits his intentions but tells everyone there is no other choice. Strickler, however, intervenes and makes a guess that there might be some alternative in the Janus Order's records, which turns out to be true. The alternative just requires some blood from a shadowmancer, which Jim gladly provides. Claire becomes a shapeshifter with the ability to change forms at will.
However, Merlin also comes to Jim regarding Morgana. It's possible to seal her inside the Shadow Realm, but all the links between it and the outside world should be cut, meaning that Jim should stay inside the Shadow Realm for good. Merlin appeals to Jim's insecurities and reminds him that the shadow magic is evil, convincing Jim that it'll be better for everyone.
However, Claire overhears this conversation and confronts Jim about it. She also reminds him that Merlin's solutions have already proved to be not the only answer and that their team has already found an alternative once, so it's possible to find another one.
The encouragement from Claire prompts Jim to craft his own spell for the first time to use against Morgana. So, once the Eternal Night comes, both Claire and Jim defeat Gunmar and Morgana respectfully.
@theonceandfuturetrollhunter, I know that you feel down now, so hopefully, this one cheers you up a bit:)

Blinky x Reader (18+)
Arcadia. Back once more after the 15 years you've been gone. You were a friend of the Domzalski's, and the un-paid babysitter of their baby son. The day they won the lottery, you cheered in excitement for them. And the day they fell into the sea, you cried for them.
The heartbreak of your 2 best friends struck you so severely, you couldn't stand being in Arcadia any longer. The memories, the high school all 3 of you went to, the restaurant you went to after every celebration. You just couldn't bear it. The last memories of the small town were bidding little Toby and Nana goodbye.
But now, you're back.
Nana had contacted you, saying she needed help with Tobies. Half-blind and all, old and raising a teenager, you could see why. You didn't want to be out of your best friend's childs' life completely at the loss of his parents, so once in a while, you phoned your adoptive nephew. Just checking up on him, seeing how he was.
You had accepted, of course. Slightly jumping at the opportunity and a reason to come back to Arcadia, you called in sick for an indefinite amount of days and packed a suitcase. Filling up your car, you hopped into the driver's seat and started the long drive.
You were kind of thankful that you didn't have to buy a plane ticket, hating planes and airports, but the long, lonely roads brought into account new emotions. This is the first time you're going back to your hometown in 15 years.. You're going to see the high school. And the restaurant. And.. Their house.
The house you saw them buy, build and love. You remember watching them set up a room for the new baby. Deciding the colors, layout, and designs of the wall. You remember getting sloshed in the living room, accidentally breaking one of the photos upon the fireplace. Your kind of glad you did, seeing as you took the photo and hung it in your house.
The photo of the 3 of you.
The days were long in your small car, the best you could afford. Stopping at family dinners and shitty motels to rest. The cycle stopped on day 6, finally reaching the sign with bold letters spelling out, 'Arcadia'.
You picked up your phone and dialed Nana. She picked up after the 3rd time. "Hello dear! Y/n, are you coming soon?" She spoke happily, a bag crunching in the background.
"Hi, Nana. I just got into Arcadia, I'll be there in less than 10 minutes!" You smiled as you heard the old lady scolded one of her many cats.
"Alright dear. See you soon." She ended the call before you could bid farewell. You chuckled and rolled your eyes, setting your phone down into your cup container. You took in a deep breath as you entered the small town.
Driving past the buildings that seem so familiar but have changed so much, you felt an array of emotions. Happy your here. Confused as to why they would change things. Sorrow as you remembered multiple memories in the areas you passed.
Driving into the neighborhood, your car stilled at the infamous yellow house. Their house. You stared at it through your window, looking into their own as light shone from within. You sighed and started your car again.
Eventually, you pulled into Nana's driveway. Strolling up to the doorsteps, you knocked 3 times before waiting. A shuffle, a huff, and then the door opens. You smiled as your eyes suddenly felt teary. "Y/n! Oh dear, come inside, come inside." She urges you inside, holding a foot out to prevent a black cat from escaping.
You enter the warm house, the smell of bread and... Burritos filling the room? You shrug it off as you're ushered to the couch. Sitting down, you let out a heave of relief. You're not sure why. "So, how have you been?" You ask as Nana moves towards the kitchen, presumably to make you some tea.
"Oh, I've been fine. Toby and the cats keep me busy." She laughs as she grabs 4 cups. 4 cups? You could understand that the other 1 would be for Toby, so who was the other one for?
"That's great Nana." You smile, sinking into the soft cushion. Your car was not the worst, but my god the seats were terrible. It felt like nails were digging into your back and ass. Not that good for almost a week's road trip.
"So how are you dear?" She spoke as she took the kettle off the burner as it began to scream.
"Oh I've been better, I mean- WAIT- NANA, LET ME HELP YOU!" You shout, running towards the old lady, taking the opened kettle out of her hands. Unbeknownst to her, she had almost poured boiling water onto her cat.
"Ohoho, your so helpful already." She mumbles, skittering off into the living room. You look down at the tea bags sat in one of the empty cups. Orange Pekoe..  She still knows what kind you like after all these years. Your heart swells as you pour hot water into the cups, your lips rising like a goofball.
Stirring the drinks, 2 of the cups had hot chocolate and the other 2 had tea. You could guess which is which, so you handed Nana a cup while placing your own on the table before grabbing the other 2 mugs.
"I'm gonna bring this to Toby and..?"
"Oh! Toby has a friend over. His international friend, his names Arthur-San." You nodded and headed upstairs. From the top, you could hear loud cheers from inside the room you thought to be Tobies'. You knocked and waited, but you don't think they heard you from the loud volume of a video game.
You sighed and opened the door. Inside, 2 backs were turned to you. One, obviously being Toby and the other.. It was a white sheet. A large, very large in fact, figure was sat beside Toby, wearing a bedsheet. Uh-
"Hey Toby, and Arthur, Nan-" You stopped mid-sentence as the heads turned to you. A large, circle-ish face appeared from the draped sheet. A green, mossy beard decorated its chin, a mouth with 4 long teeth sticking out, and are those- HORNS??
"T-Toby.. Who is that?" You cautiously, and very slowly, set the drinks down onto a nearby dresser.
"Aunt Y/n?! What are you doing here?" Toby gets up and comes near you. You quickly grab onto him, wrapping your arms around him as you run out the door. "Wait- Auntie Y/n, he's a friend!" You turn around and quickly shut the door as you place Toby back down.
"Toby, go get Nana and run!" You scream. He just stands there, sighing. A knock from the inside of the room startles you. "Wingman?" A gruff voice speaks. You shriek as the knob is pulled from your grip, the door opening as the large head sticks out, right in front of you. Its black nose presses against your shoulder, pulling in a long sniff.
"Oh go-" And your fainting. A stone hand stops you mid-fall, preventing you from hitting a hard bottom as your eyes closed.
"I'll call Jim."
-
You awoke on a soft plush. Feeling around, you realize you're on a bed. "Master Jim, Lady Y/n is awaking." A deep voice calls out, sensing that you knew he was close to you from how loud he was. You sit up, rubbing your eyes as you adjust to the light of the room. Looking around, it was just a regular room. Including a monster with 6 eyes.
"AHHHH!" You scream, scrambling off the bed. The moment you do so, 2 teenagers including Toby run into the room. You move near Toby, your eyes locked on the monsters.
"Woah! Calm down Miss Y/n, if we can just explain everything-" You cut the boy with twig legs off.
"Oh, you kids better explain as to why there is a- .. A-"
"I believe the word is 'Troll." The blue monster says.
"Yes! That! Why there is a troll with 6 eyes and 4 arms staring at me right now!" You pointed to Toby, "And you! Explain what happened earlier, with that big guy. Right now." You huffed.
"Is she talking about Aaarrrgghh?" The girl with a blue streak in her hair spoke.
"Aaarrgghh? Wait a minute.. Arthur?!" Your brows furrowed. "Toby, have you been lying to Nana about this 'International student'?" You made finger quotes as you looked upon your nephew's embarrassed face.
"Uhhh, maybe?" He shrugs. You sigh, disappointed in your nephew.
"If you'll allow me to explain, Lady Y/n,"
Oh- no man, or at least you think it's male, has ever called you lady..
"Aaarrrggh and I are trolls. Master Jim as you see over there," He points to chicken legs, "Is the troll hunter. Underneath your world, there is a magnificent other world, filled with trolls and things you couldn't possibly believe." He waves his hands up in the air.
You nod, taking it all in.
"Ugh, this hurts my head." Another world? Trolls? Troll hunter?? Jim moves beside the blue troll whose name you don't know and speaks to him softly.
"Hi, I'm Claire." There's a hand that's shoved in front of you, in which you awkwardly shake.
"Hey, I'm Toby's aunt. Not biological but I knew his parents well." She nodded before removing her hand from yours. You leaned down, whispering into Toby's ear.
"Who's 6 eyes?"
A voice answered you before Toby's mouth even opened. "My name is Blinky. A pleasure to meet you, lady Y/n." The troll paddles over to you, his stone feet making satisfying clicking sounds as he walks. He holds one of his upper hands out for you to shake.
He didn't seem like such a threat, in fact, he seemed like a gentleman. You smiled and shook his hand. His skin was stone, as you could feel the cracks engraved into it as your hand flooded with a strange warmth.
"Nice to meet you too, Blinky." You release his hand after a few seconds of shaking.
"Master Jim and I were discussing a matter regarding you. If you would like, we could show you Troll Market."
"Troll Market?" You question.
"The home of trolls such as myself, and Aaarrrgghh over here." He points behind him, your eyes wander over to the window as you see that large head. The large troll waves a hand and smiles, seeing as everybody's eyes are now on him.
"Has he been out there the whole time?" You ponder. Why isn't he just in the room?
"Rooms too small." You look around, finding it is indeed smaller than your nephew's room. Oh well. You think about the opportunity to travel to this unknown world. Eh, why not. You would be keeping an eye on Toby as well, so that's always good.
"Um, well, if your offering then, of course, I'd come. Thank you for inviting me." You smile at the blue troll. He smiles back, his 6 eyes staring into your 2. His eyes just seemed so soft.. And mesmerizing, having never seen anyone like this before. Your eyes ghost his face, inspecting upon closer details on the stoned troll.
...
"Ahem." Jim coughs. You both suddenly break eye contact as Blinky coughs, making his way towards the exit.
"Aha! Yes, we should be going. Daylight is rising." He muttered as the teens follow him out. You follow, exiting the house as the breeze of the night flushes your already pink cheeks. Your lead to the bridge you had driven over while entering the town, but now under it.
Aaarrrgghh is tossed a glowing stone by Blinky, creating a semi-circle on the stone of the bridge. He punches the wall, creating a crack before it starts to fall apart. Yellow swirls around the stone before creating something like a portal?
The trolls head in, followed by Jim and Claire. "Cmon auntie, it won't hurt you." You begrudgingly sigh and follow him inside the glowing portal. Stepping inside, you wince as you close your eyes.
Not even a second later, you could feel your area darken. Opening your eyes, you see everyone else staring at you. Your cheeks flush in embarrassment. Goddammit. The kids laugh as Blinky looks at with you an indescribable expression.
Is he disappointed? Shocked? Unbeknownst to you, the corners of the blue troll's lips rose. "This way, lady Y/n." His 4 hands motioned you to the crystal stairs, swirling downwards in a circle. Oh my god- Wow.
Everyone makes their way down the steps, in comfortable silence. Coming further down, you stop as you take in the view. The magnificent, one-of-a-kind, breathtaking, OH MY GOD, view. "Wow." You mumble in awe, looking up at the enormous, orange crystal in the center. Everything was so beautiful.
"Welcome to HeartStone Troll Market!" Blinky exclaimed from behind you. The other smiled as they watched your reaction. Stepping down the steps, you ended up beside the 6 eyed troll as you stopped.
"Where should we go first?" Toby asked as you gazed upon the well-spoken mystery. Now taking a better look as the others speak, you watch as his eyes blink simultaneously. How the 2d tooth on both sides of his mouth is cracked. The deep grooves into his stone skin. You paid minor attention to what he was wearing before, but now looking closer you see the 2 satchels sporting each hip on his brown overalls.
Your gazing ventures further down, looking at his flat feet. Heh, they look stumpy. "Great! We'll take you to the forge, where you can see my impressive hammer skills!" Toby proclaimed, steering your head up from your gaze.
6 eyes met yours. Oh god, did he see you staring at him? Did he see you staring below his waist??? He doesn't bring it up if he did, instead leading the 5 of you to the 'forge'.
"This is the forge, where many of our great warriors have trained." Blinky gestures around the grand room. You look around in awe, feeling a little overwhelmed by such a beautiful realm.
"It's amazing." You whisper, settling yourself on the sidelines of the giant arena as the kids grab weapons. Weapons?! Oh god.. Aaarrrgghh comes and sits behind you, jolting you with a loud thud as he sits. Blinky stands beside you, gazing out at the children.
"Indeed they are." Your eyes meet his 6, a glance before breaking contact. You smile, proud of your little nephew.
"Aunt Y/n! Look!" The ginger boy yelled from across the large expanse. You watch as he pulls out a small item, before smashing it to the ground. It sprouts a large, flaming orange hammer. Your mouth widens in shock as you see him swish the weapon around. "Impressive, right? It's my war hammer." He says as he trudges over to you.
"Uh yeah, just please be careful with that." He laughs before skittering off. Guess he gets that from Nana. You sigh as you watch the kids spar, rather impressed by Jim's armor and Claire's staff. After they were done fooling around, you see as Claire checks her watch.
"Guys, it's almost 6:30. We should get going." Mumbling as she puts away her shadow staff. Toby groans, retracting his hammer as Jim takes off the amulet.
"Ughh, I forgot we had school today." You slightly chuckle at the kids' words, being the exact same as a child. Jim, Claire, and Toby all run towards the exit of Trollmarket whereas you stand still. Toby looks behind him, seeing your unmoving form.
"Are you coming, auntie?" He cocks his head.
"Oh! Yeah, yeah, I just thought I would have more time checking the place out.." You trail off, glancing at what you thought to be your last look at the mysterious underground world. From behind you, Blinky and Aaarrrgghh look towards each other.
"Ahem, if I may, Aaarrrgghh and I will accompany Lady Y/n down here while you're at school. If.. That is alright with you?" His dark, red eyes turn to your form. You nod excitedly.
"Yes! Yes, I would love that." His lips form a smile, 6 eyes gleaming at you before turning back to the other 3 humans.
"Now, run along kids. Aaarrrgghh and I will keep Lady Y/n safe." 2 of his hands form a 'shoo' motion as they smile. You move towards Toby, wrapping him in a hug before bidding goodbye. Turning towards your new-found troll friends, you couldn't help but grin as your leaded into the busy streets of the market.
"This place is so beautiful. How long have you guys been living down here?" You wonder, looking around at all the shop stalls.
"A few centuries, after the battle of Killahead bridge, we had traveled until we found the heartstone you see today." Blinky gestured a hand to the bright, orange crystal towards the center wall of the market.
"Hated boat." Aaarrrgghh chimed in from behind, his large statue circling both the conundrum troll and the female human.
"Yes, we all did." Memories flashed in his 6 eyes before he shivered, obviously not liking that part of his life.
"Killahead bridge? What's that?" You question. You're stopped in front of what looked to be a bookstore. The 2 trolls enter, you following closely behind them as you take in the view. Books littered the walls everywhere. Bookshelves, books on tables, and some even on the floor.
"Ah, and that's the reason why I took you here. You seem like a lover of history, as I am. Therefore, Lady Y/n, I have taken you to my lodgings to learn about troll history!" He exclaims, clearly excited.
"This is your house?" Looking around, it does suit him.
"Indeed, now make it as if your own. I will fetch you some books you can read that will fully satisfy a craving for troll history." He runs around the room, 4 arms stacked full of large books that would most likely take you hours to read. Aaarrrgghh yawns from the corner, bored.
A few minutes later, he sets the books down with a thud on a large table. You sit in one of the chairs presented, grabbing one of the books from the top of the stack. Opening it up, you stare blankly. Turning the pages, you realize you can't read the language.
"Blinky, I can't read this." You say, head popping up from the pages, meeting his 6 eyes. He walks over to you, standing closely behind you as he looks over your shoulder. Your heartbeat quickens as you can see the strands of each of his hair. His long ears softly flap as his eyebrows furrow while reading what you can't.
"Hmm.. That is an issue." He sets a hand on his chin, pondering for a quick while before getting an idea. Sliding a chair over, he sits in front of you, grabbing the book from the table into his 2 upper hands. "Well, I'll just read it to you!" He smiles as you nod, eagerly wanting to learn about something you didn't know existed until 2 hours ago.
And so began the many hours of Blinky reading trollish to you. At some point, Aaarrrgghh decided to leave the hole, leaving you and the conundrum troll alone. You arch your strained back as he finished reading the last sentence of the 3rd book. "And those were all the creatures starting with an A!"
"Wow Blinky that was really, informational." Stretching your legs outwards, you bump onto his foot with your own. Recoiling your legs, you speak quickly, "Oh, sorry." Your cheeks flush.
"No worries Lady Y/n." He sets the book down on the table. "This may sound a bit odd," His eyes find yours, "but I've always been fascinated with the human body. If it's alright with you, lady Y/n, may I take a look at you?"
You thought for a second. Of course, you would also be curious about a different type of species other than your own. Plus, although you've only known him for a few hours, you trusted him. You nod, "Yea sure." He visibly relaxed at your answer. "But," You continue, " I want to look at you too."
He blinked, processing your words before smiling. "Of course." You were unsure of what to do now, sitting in silence as you both watched each other. It was only when he scooted closer, the sound of his chair scraping the ground broke you from your gaze.
"If I may..?" He gestured towards your resting arm. You quickly lifted it up and bent closer, showing him your fleshy arm. He told ahold gently, stone hands that were surprisingly warm against your skin. He traced up and down your arm, squishing a few times.
His breath tickled your skin, resulting in tiny goosebumps forming. "What are those small bumps?" He mumbled, eyes fixated on your arm.
"Those are goosebumps. Humans get them when we're cold." You answer, enjoying being the teacher for once.
"Fascinating." He moved down from your arm towards your fingers, squishing, prodding, rubbing. Your hands tingled in his own as he poked your fingernails. "And these?" He pointed towards them.
"Those are fingernails, they're made of keratin." He nodded, placing your hand down.
"Thank you for allowing me to look at you, lady Y/n." You smiled, waving your hand.
"No problem. Now it's my turn." He lifted his lower arm and extended it towards you. You grab hold, a bit taken aback at the size. His hand could easily fit around your whole face. You rub the warm stone, strumming your fingers along it as you play a rhythmic tune.
Unlike you, he only had 4 fingers, every one of them very large. While your head is down playing with his hand, his 6 eyes gaze upon you. Never did he allow a human he just met to poke and prod at him, so why did he allow you? The moment you had awoken in Toby's house, a scream and a stumble he had expected when you saw him, but he didn't expect you to shake his hand for so long.
He would have sufficed a quick shake and a fearful let go, leaving you in his 'ok' books. But, you just kept staring at him, even now, he feels his heart shake a little as you examine his arm. Standing near him willingly, refusing to leave with Master Jim and the others, but to stay and explore more of his world? Oh dear.
"You know," Your voice snaps him out of his daydream, "even though you're made of stone, you're actually very warm." You note as you caress his arm.
"Ah, yes, rather strange isn't it?" He brings an upper hand of his to his mouth and coughs. He could feel as you trace the engravements on his skin, your fingernails scratching him a little.
"Can I touch your belly?" He sputtered at the question.
"My stomach?" You lift your head, watching as his face contorts into a confused expression.
"I mean, uh- never mind." You release his hand and try to laugh it off. Well, that was embarrassing. You feel your cheeks rise in heat as you look at the ground.
"You may." A soft voice beckons you to look up, staring at the oh-so-kind troll, looking down at you with gentle eyes. You smile, giving a small thank you before moving your hand towards the troll's exposed stomach. Settling your hand on the stone belly, you felt him jolt slightly.
Tracing the engravings upon his skin once more, you lean closer and place your other hand onto him. Your eyes focus on his body, not daring to make eye contact. Whereas, his 6 eyes stared intently down at you. Watching, feeling your every move. He could somewhat feel your breath on his stone skin as well. Although he did find it odd you would want to touch his stomach, it did feel nice.
Your hands caress his body, leaning your face in as you stare into the cracked stone. Wonderous. As you slid your hands up, you went a bit further than you assumed as your hands went upon his chest. "Oh- sorry about that, getting a little handsy heh." You remove your hands and scratch your neck as you mentally slap yourself. Goddammit Y/n. You could feel your cheeks reddening.
He says nothing, so you look up at him. His eyes, half-lidded, staring at you with an unexplainable expression. What is..?
"May I smoosh faces with you?"
"Pardon?" You lower your hand from your neck, head shooting up from his words. Smoosh faces? Wait.. Did he mean kissing? "Do you want to kiss me?" You whisper.
"Yes! That's the word." He nodded.
"Then, yes." You nod, slowly leaning back towards him. He swallowed as you closed your eyes, coming towards him ever so slowly. He pushed his face towards yours, his large lips pressed against yours. His teeth touched your cheeks, but he was careful not to hurt you. 2 of his arms came and clutched onto your shoulders.
Unconsciously pulling you closer towards him, you lifted yourself out of your seat and onto his lap. Lower hands settle onto your waist, holding you close as you continue the kiss. He pulled away first, 6 wide eyes settled upon you.
"That was.." You try and find the word.
"Magnificent." He breathed out. His arms slowly slid up and down your waist, caressing your clothed skin. "May I.. Remove your shirt?" Struck with lust, you nodded, lifting your arms up as he removes your shirt. Discarding the shirt to the floor, he leans in and breaths in your scent.
"Blinky," You whisper in his ear, "take off my pants." You slowly grind against him in his lap, breathing heavily. He aides you in removing your clothing, until your sitting on him with only a bra on. You unclip your bra and toss it to the side, your breasts free from the barrier. Your nipples harden at the cool air, gaining the troll's attention.
He asks for your permission, "Blinky, I wouldn't get naked just so you can't touch me." He removes his upper hands from your shoulders and placed them over your breasts. He experimentally kneads, pushes, and rubs your fat lumps. You softly moan, encouraging him to continue.
"You are very squishy.." He mumbles, softly pinching your nipples. You arch your back, pushing your chest further into him as one of his lower hands moves to support your back. You grab his hand attached to your waist and pull it between your legs.
"Touch me here." You release the stone as he complies, his large fingers fiddling between your folds. He takes experimental rubs into you, finding your clit with your help as you release a loud moan. His hands continue to rub your tits, rubbing your nipples with soft strength.
"O-oh.." You grind into his hand as he rubs your button.
"I'd like to take a closer look, if I may?" He puffs in your ear. You nod, frowning as he removes his hands from your body, only to lift you up and carry you towards a back room. Entering the new room, you see a pile of pillows and blankets littering the floor. He sets you upon them before removing his overalls.
You move a hand between your legs and feel your wetness, circling your clit a few times as you beg for him in your mind. He lays his clothes on the side before returning to your side. Settling his face between your legs, he inhales your scent deeply through his large orange nose. "Human anatomy is rather fascinating up close."
He says it as if he.. You sit up, bumping against his nose before he brings his head up, a confused expression on his face. "Blinky, is this the first time you've done it?"
"Done what?"
"Had sex..?" He smiles at your worried expression. "Cause we can stop if you want to-"
"My dear, this is only the first time I've done anything with your kind. As well, I am positively overjoyed to be with you right now. Rest assured, I want to do this." You exhale and smile, flopping your head back down.
"Well, that's a relief. And I am too, Blinky, really happy to do this with you." You avoid eye contact, your cheeks too flushed to be seen. He returns his head back down, his fingers spreading your lips as he explores you.
He blows air, rubs, licks. As his mouth plays with your outer part, a stone finger gently prods your entrance. Sliding into you with ease, you gasp as you thought how a single digit was so thick. You're having sex with a troll, duh.
Soon enough, with all of his stimulation, you came around his finger. "AhhH~" Crying out, he halts his movements as you come down from your high. He leans up as your thighs twitch, bringing his soaked finger to his mouth before licking.
"Was that alright?"
You panted, holding up a thumbs up. "Amazing." He gave an innocent smile, amusing in the situation that had just occurred. You leaned up, sitting on your butt. "Blinky, so um," You gestured towards his blank pelvis.
"Ah, for me to release my, 'intimacy', I will need to be coaxed open. Protective plates will shift, revealing myself." You nodded, crawling closer towards him as he leaned back, parting his legs. You didn't know exactly what to do, so you started with rubbing the stone. Looking up towards your lover's face, he seemed to like it as his 6 eyes fell half-lidded, staring down at you.
You continued rubbing until what he had said happened, his plates parted, revealing not one, but 3 appendages. The middle, being the largest, whereas the other 2 were shorter. "Ah.. Yes, the middle one is the functioning one, carrying the sperm. The others are for added stimulation." He muttered as your hand softly caressed his cocks.
"So, how do you wanna do this? You lie down or me?" You stroke him as he ponders.
"It is your first time with a troll, so allow me to take command." A breathy voice mutters, hands removing yours from himself as he sets you on your back. "I fear the other way around would have you in pain." He was right, cowgirl position usually gets deeper.
You settle down as he scooches near you, hands ahold of his larger phallus. The smaller ones swirl and wrangle as their placed near your thigh creases. He angles the middle one to your hole, as 2 of his hands grasp your waist. Pushing his hips forwards, he slowly slides in, stretching you no man, or toy had ever done to you.
Your hands find his attached to your skin, grasping onto his hand and signal him to slow down. He does, waiting for you to adjust to his girth. It takes a long while as you wait for the pain to settle as he pushes himself in little by little. After a couple of minutes, you finally have him all inside without any pain. Discomfort? Yes, but nothing you cant handle.
As he pulls out, the first few pushes are testing. Testing your levels and discomfort. Hearing the soft sounds you make as he slowly enters you, he speeds up his thrusts. Rocky digits hold onto your skin, moving upwards towards your breasts as another set comes onto your skin. He leans over you as he rhythmically pounds into you.
His smaller tendrils wiggle and surround your opening, gently prodding your hole. You couldn't dare to fit another one inside, could you? He stares at your form, looking for any signs of pain. "Are you alright so far?" He rolls his hips against you.
"Yes! It feels so good.." You lift your arms and place your hands onto his cheeks. He gives you a toothy smile before returning to the task at hand. Your arms fell to clutch his own around you as he gives a sharp thrust. You moan as he bites his lips.
A deep growl resonated within the bookworm's chest as one of his smaller tendrils slowly pushes its way inside of you. You whine as it snakes its way through your hole, wiggling against your walls. You feel so full. You could feel yourself coming undone, a ball in your stomach forming as he slithers inside of you.
The outer phallus slides up your vulva, towards the top of your lips, finding your little pink button. You squeal as you are overwhelmed with pleasure. He grunts over you, clenching his teeth as he continues to thrust. Wet sounds surrounded the room, the slapping of him against you is the only sound in the room.
You clench down around him, both of his cocks still moving as you release onto them. Soaked in your juices, they glisten in the light as they're pulled from you in mere milliseconds before pounding back inside you. You cry out from the overstimulation, your face contorting into many expressions as your opening's abused by large cocks.
As he nears his end, his chest rumbles as he begins to make curious sounds. Deep throaty rasps, before a loud yelp lets out from his tusked mouth. Hot seed envelopes your insides, soaking your walls. He continues to thrust, riding out his orgasm before he settles down. Pulling out from you, he leans to the side and flops down.
You pant and turn towards him, grabbing onto his hand as he heaves. You both lay in silence, catching your breath from such an exhilarating activity.

A monster
Thought it would be fun to write a douxie x reader imagine where the readers a villain. A big twist at the end !! Tell me if u want a part 2
A cackle left your lips as you sauntered down the street, twirling your wizards staff between your fingers as you watched the chaos unfold around you.
People were screaming and running away in fear, their terror making you smirk wider. They were annoying you anyways. With a lazy swing of your staff, a blast of red energy sent a nearby car flying into the wall of a building.
Glass rained down upon you and yet didn’t even scratch your skin. You were untouchable. A true monster.
“Ladies and gentlemen ! Enjoy the show !” You laughed more as a few people turned to watch in horror as you rose up into the air.
The ruby red stone of your armour glinted under the setting sun, the crown atop your head glittering.
Screams filled the air as fire began to dance across your fingertips, before falling down onto the pavement below. It rained fire upon the town, people rushing to take cover as pandemonium erupted.
“That’s not very nice love.” A voice had you spinning on your heels to glare at the familair figure of Hisirdoux Casperan.
He’d grown taller over the years since you’d last seen him, handsomer as well. What was he now 919 ? Only a year older than yourself. Hell the two of you had known each other since the years were only three numbers long.
“A pleasure to see you as always Casperan.” You smirked sauntering up to the man, who’s eyes didn’t leave yours as you closed in on him. A delicate finger traced along his shoulder, your smile growing as he visibly shivered a little. You could see the annoyance in his eyes.
“Wish I could say the same love. But it appears you’re terrorising my town” He caught your hand in his, the grip tight in warning. Though this didn’t deter you and instead you just closed the gap between the two of you.
A giggle left your lips as you pressed up against him, enjoying the way his eyes narrowed at your actions.
“I’m just having fun Casperan. I remember once upon a time you used to like having fun too. Or are you now just Merlin’s little lapdog ?” You chuckled, knowing that your words would hit a sore spot.
A low growl left Douxies lips as he shoved you away from him.
“Don’t talk about him.” He spat out.
You let out another low chuckle - clearly it was a sensitive subject.
“Oh I’m sorry is that a sensitive subject ? Don’t you like being his little delivery boy ?” You laughed loudly, too caught up in your amusement to see Douxie’s next moves.
With a sharp movement the boy swung his fist, a blue light shooting out and hitting you straight in the chest. The impact sent you flying backwards, slamming against the tarmac with a loud thud.
A bloodh cough left your lips as you pushed yourself up, blood erupting from your mouth as you coughed harder. With a low chuckle you wiped the blood off of your lips, the crimson now staining your hand.
“That wasn’t very nice.” You mumbled lowly, getting up to your feet.
In a blink of an eye you were only inches away from Douxie, before he could even prepare to defend himself.
“Didnt your mother ever tell you it’s wrong to hit a lady ?” Your outstretched palm met the hard surface of his chest, and a bright red light sent him flying backwards much like how you did.
Coughs racked Douxie’s body as he struggled to his knees, letting out a grunt as hot flares of pain shot up his sides. He watched you float towards him, the glare of your red armour blinding under the setting sun. Your eyes were cool and a smirk marred your pretty face as you leaned down to him, face so close he could feel the warmth of your breath.
"I missed you a little Casperan. It’s been what ? About five hundred years ? I’ve been so lonely without you." Your words sent a chill down his spine as you cupped his cheek lightly, and he felt his eyes drawn to the pink of your lips even though he was in the middle of a battle, one he was losing as well.
"Well then love, you shouldn’t have chosen the wrong side." Mustering all his self control the man slapped your hand away, hating himself for missing the warmth of your touch. Even after all these years his feelings hadn’t changed, no matter how much he’d tried to hide them away.
"Oh don’t be like that. I know you still miss me. I can tell." You giggled a little at the blush that coated his cheeks, even more as he turned his face to try and hide it. You had the wizard backed up against the wall he’d collided with, there was nowhere for him to run.
"Come on Hisirdoux. It can be you and me again." You whispered into his ear, noting the goosebumps that trailed down his neck as you leaned in closer.
Douxie could smell the familair scent of your shampoo, lilacs and honey, which had him wishing he could run his fingers through it like he used to. The moment you whispered into his ear he felt the fight leave him, his body reacting without his permission. He inwardly swore as the blush on his cheeks brightened, feeling as if they were on fire. The sensation of your breath and lips brushing his ear had him going slack against you.
You knew you had him now, and a victorious smirk crossed your lips as you pulled back a little, eyes locked on his lips. After five hundred years you’d finally be able to kiss him again. Just as your lips grazed his, a blast of purple magic threw you off of him.
Taken completely by surprise, you only had a second to fling your hands out in front of you, using your magic to cushion your impact with the hard surface of the road. A low growl left your lips as you spun around, your lip now cut and bleeding, the red of your blood matching that of your ruby red armour. Rage filled you up as you spun around to glare murderously at the new group of people who’d gathered around Douxie.
There were three of them, two mortals by the looks of it and one sorceress - the one who’d interrupted you and Douxie. She’d be the first to die.
"You’ll regret that girl." You threatened venomously, a cry leaving your lips as you sent a large blast of red magic right at her. She was cleverly a novice as your attack knocked her backwards easily, sending her into the side of a car.
A smirk lifted your lips as she appeared knocked out for the count.
"Claire !" One of the boys, the taller of the two, rushed to the fallen girl’s side, Claire you assumed she was called. "You monster !" He screamed at you, cradling her battered body in his arms as he fell to her side. The girl remained unconscious, still as a statue in his embrace.
"She shouldnt have gotten in my way." You spoke nonchalantly, twirling your wizard's staff in your hands as you approached them all. With each step you took, their eyes widened in fear.
Though it hurt like hell, Douxie pushed himself up to his feet and stumbled over to Claire, falling to her side next to Jim. His eyes widened in worry at the sight of his unconscious pupil, who’s pretty face was marred with blood, leaking from a wound on her head. He placed a sympathetic hand of reassurance on Jim’s shoulder, giving it a gentle squeeze before turning to glare at you with a seething rage.
"I’ve changed (Y/n). I’m not Merlins lapdog anymore. I’ve got friends. a family." Douxie’s words had you raising an eyebrow in curiousity. The wizard pushed himself up to his feet, summoning his wizards staff. "I’ve changed and yet you’re still, the same. Still destroying everything in your path and throwing a tantrum when you can’t get your way." He spat, venom coating his words.
They hurt more than his attacks had, and for the first time you actually felt a pang of guilt run through you. It made you almost nauseous at the uncomfortable and unfamilair sensation of compassion. However you quickly shoved it down and instead sent him a withering glare.
"Why would I do anything different Hisirdoux? Clearly you don’t remember the differences between you and I. The different ways the world treated us." Your voice rose in anger as you crossed the distance between the two of you, stopping only metres away from him.
Toby stood protectively infront of Jim and Claire, who was still cradling his girlfriend, too distraught to summon Daylight and fight. Luckily, his ginger best friend would be there to defend them. The boy wasn’t the bravest person, not by a long shot, but the sight of your crazed expression, and the blood running down your lips sent chills down his spine. You were truly terrifying
Douxie however gave you a pitying look, the sight of it making your blood boil. How dare he pity you ?
"Don’t give me that look Casperan. You could come with me. It can be like old times." You held out a hand, watching the turmoil on Douxie’s face as he battled against himself.
A part of him looked at you and saw the young girl he’d befriended so long ago, his first actual friend really. The second magical being he’d eve rmet, who’d shared her food with him, her books and secrets...then kisses and love. In his long nine hundred and nineteen years of life he’d never loved anyone like you and yet he felt himself hesitating. The blood running down your lips, the ruby red of your armour and the marred crown atop your head reminded him of the truth of your situation. You were no longer the girl he’d once known and love. That girl was dead. There was only you now.
You felt your hand fall to your side as the conflict left Douxie’s face and a hard expression set in. Clearly, he’d made up his mind. The wrong decision.
"I see..." you trailed off, trying to surpress the hurt that you felt, another unfamiliar feeling, that of rejection. It stung uncomfortably.
"I-I....youre not the same (Y/n). You’re not the girl I once knew." The wizard spoke regretfully, feeling a little bit of guilt at the sight of the pain written on your face. He hoped maybe he could try and reach the humanity within you, it was there he could see it.
A bitter laugh left your lips, blood speckling the pavement beneath your feet as you glared down at it.
"Of course I’m not. What do you think happens after years of being locked away ? Of being abused by your own family ? Blamed for your mother’s death and put into hiding because your father can’t stand the sight of you ?!" Your voice rose in anger as you spoke, louder and louder, each question coming out more aggressive than the last. Another hacking cough wracked your body as you glared at your own hands, hating the sight of them.
"I was a princess once. I had a kingdom, people and a purpose. Now... now I have nothing." You spat, seething in self hatred as your body began to shake, the stress of everything starting to build up as you felt your surpressed emotions beginning to bubble up to the surface.
Hesitantly, Douxie reached out to you and took your shaking hands in his own, the warmth catching you off guard. The tender action had you stuttering to think of what to do or say. It caught you completely off guard. Only a moment ago you’d been trying to kill him and yet here you were, vulnerable under his touch.
"You have something. You have me, you always have and always will." Douxie spoke earnestly, unable to hide his feelings any longer as he watched the walls around you crumble, the old (Y/n) peeking through from under the ruins. Your eyes widened, glossy as tears began to swell up in them which blurred your vision as you glimpses up at the wizard, terrified that he’d reject you again.
However he looked completely earnest, a small smile on his lips as the familair blue of his eyes bored into yours. The perfect way your hands fit into his, the warmth of his touch seeping into your skin, it had you weak under his gaze.
"Douxie ! Get her now !" Claire roared, her voice shattering the beautiful illusion as you glanced from the now awake girl to said wizard who looked at you guiltily before bringing a hand down.
"I’m sorry (Y/n)" and that was the last thing you heard as the world went dark around you. Like a flower you crumbled in his arms, going weak as the wizard caught you with strong arms. Guilt ravaged his mind as he held you close to him. In that moment, face relaxed and eyes closed he couldn’t tell anything had changed, you looked just like the girl he’d first met that fateful day so long ago.
"I’m so sorry princess." The wizard carried you through the destruction you’d caused, eyes never leaving your peacefully sleeping figure. “I hope you can forgive me.”

Hope you liked it, part two should be up soon !!

Chapter 6 [FF | AO3] of Down the Rabbit Hole: Wirt had heard a lot of stories about college, but somehow, he still wasn’t prepared for one of his roommate’s crazy friends to smuggle a hatchet into their dorm room.
beginning | previous
-|-
Toby had hung up without giving more of an explanation, but from the look in Wendy’s eyes, Wirt knew she didn’t need one.
“You grab the kit from the kitchen,” Jazz said. “I’ll get the one from under my bed. Danny, there’s one in the top drawer under the bathroom sink.”
“On it,” he said, not questioning why they would possibly think they’d need three first aid kits between the two of them.
When they were all back with the kits and Wendy was pulling on her shoes, Wirt saw Danny glance at Jazz and Jazz’s answering nod. “Wirt and I can catch up,” she said without even looking at him for confirmation even though they were all gathered near the doorway now. “Wendy?”
Wendy paused long enough to look at Danny. “If it’s safe for me, then yes.”
“You’ll be fine,” Danny said, handing Wendy the other two first aid kits when she finished getting her shoes on. She cradled them against her chest as he picked her up with ease—how the heck was he so strong when he looked so slight?—and then they vanished.
Just like Danny had back in the library.
“H…how—?” Wirt could see Danny being able to do that with himself. Lab accident. Okay. Fine. But with Wendy?
They hadn’t even opened a window, let alone a door, but Wirt knew they were already gone.
“Lab accident,” Jazz said, as if that explained everything. “That was your next show of proof, by the way. Now come on. They’ll be there by the time we get out the door at this rate.”
“When…when you talked about Danny flying in earlier,” Wirt said as Jazz shooed him out the door and locked it behind them, “was that supposed to be literal?”
“I would’ve meant it literally even if I had meant on a plane,” she said, which Wirt supposed was answer enough. He just….
“What else can your brother do?”
Jazz was already heading down the stairs, but she glanced back without missing a step. “How much research did you do on Amity Park?”
“Um….”
“Just give me the cliffnotes version.”
“It’s a nice place to live?”
“I’m serious.”
“Ghosts attacks are common.”
Jazz made an irritated noise and started moving faster, forcing Wirt to take the stairs two at a time to keep up with her. “Read anything about our town’s protector?”
“The ghost hunters, you mean? Your family?”
There was a beat before Jazz answered, “I don’t just mean Mom and Dad.” He joined her on the landing, and she immediately turned and led the way out the door, setting off at a quick clip for the residence hall he and Toby had been assigned.
“The other one, then?” He had to practically jog to keep up with her. This was ridiculous. This was not a fast walk, whatever she made it appear to be. “The one with the jet sled?”
“I’m talking about Phantom.”
“So there really is a ghost that fights other ghosts?”
“Yes.”
“And that matters right now because—?”
“Danny Phantom.”
“What?”
“That’s his name. Danny Phantom.”
“So—?”
“My brother is not very original.”
“What does Danny have to—?” Wirt broke off as Jazz’s meaning sunk in.
This had to be a joke. She couldn’t seriously mean that.
Even if it would explain her brother’s cryptid remarks earlier. And the reason he could turn invisible and get into locked room and apparently fly.
But…but Danny was solid. Real. Wirt had touched him, seen him touch other very real, very solid objects. Jazz’s brother couldn’t be some spirit clinging to this world after a tragic lab accident, however dramatic he’d tried to make that seem. Ghosts weren’t tangible—
—except in Amity Park.
“Danny’s dead?” Wirt hissed.
“Not exactly.”
That made even less sense.
“So he’s a demon?”
There really wasn’t another option. Plus, it might be the real reason Jazz never came to any of Wendy’s apocalypse training sessions with them. Wendy wasn’t big on demons. Not that Wirt would have expected her to be, but—
“No.”
Okay, he was completely lost now. “Then what the heck is he?”
“Just think of him as a human with ghost powers. It’ll be a lot easier on your head.”
“How is that supposed to be easier?”
“Do you really want me to launch into a spiel about what I think Danny’s molecular structure looks like right now?”
“I—”
“Because it is all speculation. I haven’t exactly put him under a microscope. I don’t even need to ask him if he’s comfortable with the idea because I know he isn’t. Who would be? We have no reason to believe he’s in any danger; not more than anyone is who does what he does, anyway. He’s stable. He’s not broken. He’s different. That’s not a bad thing.”
“He’s dead.”
“Not dead. And not demonic. Just because that was your experience, doesn’t make it Danny’s. Or mine.”
He’d played along with this whole thing for too long to ask if Jazz really meant that Danny had been the first person to give Phantom a name, hadn’t he? Because somehow being the reason Phantom took the name Danny—whether Danny Fenton gave him that name or if Phantom fancied it and adopted it, in honour of Fenton or not—didn’t explain anything. That would just be wishful thinking, especially after what Jazz had said.
Besides, Wirt knew that things that couldn’t be explained could actually happen.
He had simply never expected that they had genuinely happened to anyone else.
Particularly while they were still in this dimension.
“I just can’t….”
“You wanted to help Toby, didn’t you? So stop saying you can’t. Just roll with it and do the best you can. Life gets weird sometimes. You should’ve learned that by now.”
“I was fifteen!”
“Danny was fourteen.”
There was no way he could argue this like a sane person and actually come out ahead, was there?
Wirt swallowed his retorts, deciding to save his breath as Jazz picked up the pace again. Geez, that girl could run. By the time they got to the residence hall, he could taste blood and was gasping for breath in between coughing fits that somehow made the stabbing, burning pain in his side worse, and she wasn’t even winded.
He was still fumbling for his keys when someone else walked out, giving him a weird look but holding the door long enough for Jazz to grab it. Wirt pretended that his face was flushed only from exertion and not the fact that he was pretty sure that kid lived just down the hall from him and that he’d have to live with the fact that this guy was always going to remember him as this out-of-shape weirdo who—
“Come on. You can catch your breath when we get to your room. Probably.”
Jazz didn’t bother knocking when they got there. The knob turned when she tried it, and she shoved him inside before following and locking the door behind her.
Wirt wasn’t sure what he expected to see when they got there.
Someone injured, sure. That made sense. Toby had asked for a first aid kit.
But somehow, Wirt had never expected that said injured, uh, creature would not be human.
A quick glance told him that Jazz wasn’t the least bit fazed by the giant thing sprawled across Toby’s bed. It looked like it was dressed in armour, too. Without a helmet but with horns. Wirt shuddered, too reminded of the Beast not to immediately think demon despite the vastly different horn type. He looked for Wendy, but she was just perched on his desk, digging through the first aid kits, one balanced on her lap and two open beside her; she showed no signs of going for the hidden hatchet and trying to kill the thing, so that had to be a good sign.
Not that that gave Wirt much of an idea of what the creature was if it wasn’t a demon.
He didn’t really want to ask.
It did explain why someone had covered the window, though. Not so much as a shaft of sunlight was peeking through, so there was no way someone from outside could just happen to glance in and see…that.
“What—?”
“Jim and Claire are hurt,” Toby said, and Wirt tore his eyes away from the beast and finally realized that Jazz stood with Toby over a figure on Wirt’s bed, this one in that purple armour Claire had been wearing.
Was still wearing.
Toby was still wearing his armour, too. Wirt was pretty sure he wasn’t imagining the blood on it. He shivered, suddenly cold despite the fact that he knew he was still sweaty from that run. There was just…so much here he hadn’t known. And that creature….
He hadn’t realized that anything could give him chills like this. Since the Unknown, horror movies and such had never given him the creeps. They weren’t real, and he knew that, so he just never let himself be bothered by it. But this?
This thing was real.
And definitely not human.
And probably not a demon, since Wendy had no problem with it. At least, it wasn’t glowing. Its eyes might be, if they were open, but they weren’t, so—
No. He couldn’t go down that rabbit hole now. This one was bad enough. Wirt swallowed. “Badly?”
“Bad enough,” Wendy said as she hopped off the desk to give Toby whatever she’d been looking for in the kit. “A home stitch job isn’t going to make a concussion go away.”
“Let me, I’ve had a lot of practice,” Jazz said, reaching for something from Wendy. It wasn’t until she’d ripped open the package and fished out the contents that he realized it held sterilized needles. That wasn’t standard for first aid kits, right?
“This is crazy,” Wirt said. “We need to get her to the hospital.” He moved to stand at the end of his bed and tried to ignore the monster who lay on Toby’s in his peripheral vision. He stared at Claire’s armour instead, noting the smoothness of its joints and trying not to see what the others were doing. A quick glance had told him entirely too much. “She needs actual medical care. Last I checked, none of you guys have graduated med school.”
“No, but I’d wager we’re all experts in home treatment,” Wendy said. “Toby never flunked that part of the apocalypse prep courses, if you’ll remember.”
“I thought that was just your idea of first aid on steroids.”
“We don’t need an audience,” Jazz interrupted, and Wirt didn’t need to lift his head to know she hadn’t looked up from threading her needle. “Go help Danny.”
Wirt hadn’t actually seen Danny, so he glanced around the room again. “Where is he? Trying find someone to help?”
“He’s checking over Jimbo,” Toby said quietly. He was still looking over the piece of armour that was jutting out of Claire’s arm. Her arm. Speared by what Wirt could only assume was her own armour, though he couldn’t imagine how. He could see her losing a piece of plate, sure, but having it come back, sharpened to a point and tearing through her flesh— No, he couldn’t think about that right now. He quickly looked away, staring at Toby’s helmetless head instead and realizing how much sweat had plastered down his hair. “He and Claire got it bad. Jim can shake off a lot, but there was some dark magic in this mix.”
“Jim,” Wirt repeated. He remembered that name. “He was that other kid you were close friends with in high school, right? Tall, lanky? I think you raved about his food?” In truth, the last was the only thing Wirt remembered. Toby always raved about Jim’s food. Apparently, he made a mean omelet. “Did you at least drop him at the walk-in clinic or—?”
Toby finally met Wirt’s eyes. He looked…drained. That was the only way Wirt could think to describe it. “He’s on my bed.”
Wait.
What?
Wirt looked. The monster was still very much there. And now that he looked a little higher, he could see Danny hovering above him. Literally hovering. Maybe two feet from the ceiling. He’d paused in whatever examination he’d been doing to stuff his hand in his mouth and try to stifle his laughter, but he lost that battle the moment he realized Wirt had seen him.
“This is a prank,” Wirt said, coming to that conclusion again. That was the only thing that made sense. They’d finally done it. He didn’t know how they’d done, but they’d gotten him good, and he’d admit that. “Good one, guys. You really had me going.”
“This blood isn’t faked,” Wendy said bluntly. “Trust me, Wirt, if we were going to prank you, we’d all be laughing.”
“Sorry,” Danny whispered as he dropped down to Wirt’s eye level. “I just…. When I realized you hadn’t seen me, I couldn’t resist.” The smile dropped off his face as he added, “They’re right, though. This is serious. Definitely worse than the time Sam got hit by some of Skulker’s shrapnel.” His feet finally hit the floor again, and he pointed at the mon—at Jim. “Look at the way the armour impacted. It’s like he ran into a wall. Which he wouldn’t do, because when his eyes are open, they actually function. My guess is Jim has a lot of internal injuries, even with that stoneskin of his. Plus, y’know, the sheer amount of magic it would’ve taken to knock out him out. I’m surprised they were strong enough to bring him back here. He would’ve been dead weight.”
He turned away from Wirt, leaving Wirt to stare at the creature’s—Jim’s?—face and try to see something other than solid stone.
And trying to see the human face of the kid he’d thought had been Toby’s friend Jim in there somewhere.
However, Wirt was not so absorbed that he didn’t hear Danny’s utterly ridiculous question. “You guys can open portals to the Ghost Zone, right?”
How could this be real? It shouldn’t be real. It was even more insane than the Unknown, because he could pretend that that had just been a dream, complete with singing frogs and magical curses and nearly dying ten times over. There was a legitimate nightmarish monster lying on Toby’s bed that was apparently Jim, the amazing cook, and Jazz’s little brother had been floating, and—
“I mean, it doesn’t look like the Shadow Realm,” Toby said slowly. “Have you ever heard a name for it?”
“No,” was the hissed response, and Wirt blinked. He hadn’t realized Claire was conscious, even though he didn’t know who else Toby could have possibly been asking. “Haven’t seen anyone else there. Wouldn’t ask them where we were if I had.”
“Wait,” Wirt said. “What are we pretending happened here?”
“We’re not pretending anything because we’re not telling anyone else,” Wendy said without looking back at him. “But you should be able to guess what happened. Claire came to get Toby because they needed help. It went poorly.”
“Can I just see your staff?” Danny asked. “If I’m right and it does open portals to the Ghost Zone—and I really think I am—then I know someone who might be able to help Jim.”
“I’m willing to try anything. Claire?”
“Yeah.”
“Wendy, can you—?”
“I’ve got you covered,” Wendy said, smoothly swapping places with Toby.
Wirt backed up until he hit the door and tried not to think about how much blood was on Toby’s hands right now. He felt…out of place. More out of place than usual. Even more out of place than he’d felt in the Unknown, and this was the real world.
His friends were all taking this easily, like they’d known each other’s secrets all along, but his gut told him they hadn’t. His gut had been wrong before, admittedly, but this time it was backed up by how Jazz and Wendy had reacted to each other’s bits of dropped knowledge earlier. There had been curiosity and consideration, but there hadn’t been doubt.
“You know how to work that thing, right? I can carry Jim. Heck, I can carry both of you if you can’t manage a portal to a specific spot in the Ghost Zone.”
“Claire’s the one who really knows how to work this thing, not me, and getting back here took enough out of her. I can make it open a portal but I’m not good enough to do a place, especially not to somewhere I haven’t seen.”
“Okay, I can carry you piggyback so I can hold Jim and you can have a hand free to work that staff. Just let me know when you’re ready.”
Toby reached over Claire to grab something from the bed, and Danny…changed.
Wirt had closed his eyes against the bright light, but when he opened them, he recognized Danny Phantom from the pictures he’d seen while researching Amity Park.
“Awesomesauce,” was all Toby said before lifting up some kind of baton that glowed and grew into a staff and—
That was definitely a portal in their room, opening up as quickly as if reality were tissue paper that Toby had just stabbed through with his finger instead of gestured at with that staff.
It was a huge, vividly green portal that pulsed brightly enough to make the overhead light seem dim, and it apparently led into the Ghost Zone, of all places….
Jazz’s little brother, who was none other than Danny Phantom, with Wirt’s armour-wearing and staff-wielding roommate Toby on his back, picked up and cradled the giant monster that was somehow Toby’s friend Jim in his arms before flying all of them through that portal.
It winked out behind them as it had never been there.
“Wirt, Danny put some ice in the bathroom sink. Can you wrap some in a towel and bring it here?”
Where had Danny gotten ice? It wasn’t like this was a hotel and there was an ice machine down the hall or something. The cafeteria was in an entirely different building, but maybe he’d gone there for some. Even if it was winter, there wasn’t exactly a lot of ice or snow outside.
Then again. Danny Phantom. Wirt had a vague recollection of a reference to ice powers.
Wirt moved robotically, trying not to be surprised by the fact that the sink was full of perfect ice cubes that weren’t melting, or at least weren’t melting enough to stick to each other yet, and scooped a handful into a hand towel that he hoped was clean. Those had never gone missing like the socks, but they weren’t always remembered come laundry day, either.
He came out and handed the homemade ice pack to Wendy, trying not to stare at Claire’s pale face or the bruises already beginning to blossom on it. There was no sign of the helmet she’d been wearing earlier, though that cut that came entirely too close to her eye might be the reason for its absence, if someone had gotten in a lucky strike with a spear—
“I’ll be fine,” she hissed between clenched teeth when she noticed him. “I’ve had worse.”
Having had worse didn’t mean she was fine now. She shouldn’t be conscious. Well, she at least shouldn’t be this coherent, shouldn’t be able to read his expression and know his thoughts so easily. Was he really that transparent? Wendy had been worried about a concussion. Maybe—
“Go get some air,” Jazz said. “We don’t need you fainting on us, and we can handle this ourselves.”
He hadn’t been thinking about fainting. If anything, he’d been debating running away from here and just never coming back. This kind of stuff was supposed to be reasonable and stay in dreams and stories instead of invading perfectly logical or rational realities. Or maybe he just needed to talk to someone who wouldn’t judge him for what would sound like wild fantasies. A real therapist, not Jazz.
“Hey, you still with us?”
That was Wendy. She would not appreciate Wirt saying no. “Yeah,” he croaked out.
“Good. Then go. Get yourself a drink. Take a moment for this to sink in. Then you can come back and we can talk.”
He didn’t want to talk.
He didn’t want this to be real.
Why did this have to be real?
The Unknown was just supposed to be a dream. He didn’t want to admit that, yes, he’d actually travelled to another dimension or stumbled into some limbo between life and death or whatever it had been—
Maybe he really was losing it. Maybe none of this was real and it just felt real. Though, if he was delusional, this went way beyond his friends supporting him. This was…. Either this was enabling him or none of this was real and—
“Wirt.” Jazz again. “Seriously. Talk to us. What do you need? Would you rather just lie down for a bit instead?”
Right. Lie down where the monster that was Jim had been. Since that bed was free now that he and Toby and Danny had left through a portal in reality.
“Yeah, he’s not okay.” Wendy. “Hold down the fort. I’m going to wash up and get him out of here.”
He didn’t register that Wendy had moved until she was steering him out the door with still-wet hands. She paused only long enough to close the door behind her before pushing him forward.
It took entirely too long for him to realize that they were going to her favourite hidden corner on campus, a bench on the path that passed the bio and chem buildings that was half-hidden by bushes and trees in a little alcove by the northwest entrance to bio that Wirt had never seen anyone use.
“Sit.”
Wirt sat.
Wendy dropped down beside him. “What’s going on in that head of yours?”
There was really no point in lying. Wendy would call him on it. He spoke in short, halting sentences, not so much because he didn’t know what he was thinking as because he wasn’t sure of a sane way of wording any of it. But that was the crux of it, really. Sanity didn’t factor into any of this. So, he just told her the truth, as best he could.
Wendy, being Wendy, never laughed at him. Never denied any of this. Never reassured him that it wasn’t real or that she hadn’t seen what he had.
“Yeah,” she said when he’d stopped for long enough that it was clear to her he didn’t intend to continue. “That about sums it up, I guess.”
“How does this not….” He swallowed and tried again. “Did you know?”
“About what, Jazz and Danny? Not really. I never bothered doing research on her or anything. I just knew she could take care of herself, and that was enough for me. I learned the details when you did.”
“Toby?”
She grimaced. “I knew something was there. I didn’t know it was this big. Trolls weren’t something I’d encountered in Gravity Falls. Don’t get me wrong; they’re probably there. And from what I know about the Gremloblin, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s related.”
“The what?”
She shrugged. “Half-gremlin, half-goblin. Makes you see your worst nightmare if you look it in the eyes. Dipper captured it once. Or at least one of them, if it’s a species and not just a rare hybrid.”
She didn’t look like she was kidding.
Wirt groaned. “This can’t be real life.”
Wendy raised an eyebrow at him. “You are lucky Mabel isn’t here for this conversation or she’d take that as a cue to start singing.” When Wirt didn’t say anything else, she continued, “Look, I know this is a lot. You’ve obviously been in denial for a long time. But if we’re going to be able to help Toby and Claire and Jim, you need to pull yourself together. Like it or not, this is real life. It’s your life, it’s my life, it’s all our messed up lives. You can choose to walk away from this. I know Toby won’t judge you for that; he’s a better person than I am. But if you want to walk away, you need to be prepared to either cut us off completely so you can ignore everything that’s going on in our lives or cover for us when this stuff does come up, even if your involvement ends there. It’s your choice, but you need to make it soon.”
“But—”
“This isn’t me trying to pressure you into making a decision. It’s me telling you that we don’t have time for you to weigh every pro and con about every feasible scenario you can think of. We’re in the middle of this now, and we need to know if you’re in or out.”
“I don’t know—”
“That’s why I’m going to let you think it over and figure it out. Unless you want me to stay here and listen some more?”
She was more use to Claire than she was to him, so he shook his head.
“Okay. Text me if you wanna talk one-on-one with someone before you come back. As far as your decision goes…. We’ll do what we can to protect you either way, but I’m not going to promise you that you’ll be fine. I don’t know if you will be. I don’t know if I will be. I don’t know enough about what’s going on despite what Toby told me when Danny and I got there, but even if I did know, I still couldn’t make that guarantee. We’ll never be able to give you that guarantee.”
“I just…. I don’t know if I’m ready for any of this.”
“No one is. Well, I like to think I was more prepared for my first apocalypse than the average person, but for the most part? No one is.”
“Wait, what do you mean, first apocalypse?”
“I wasn’t kidding when I said I helped save the world once. And I don’t think it’s a lie to say I’m not the only one, so it wouldn’t be a stretch to think I might wind up helping stop a second.” Wendy got to her feet. “Just think about it. Take some time to clear your head and sort things out. We’ll be in your dorm room until Toby gets back, and one of us will text you if we leave before you show up.”
“I don’t think I can do this,” whispered Wirt, looking away so he didn’t have to see Wendy’s face when he admitted that.
“Then you don’t have to. But don’t give up until you give it some real thought, okay?”
“Okay.”
He didn’t look up as she walked away.
