I remember when I first read The Hobbit, I was really bothered by the fact that Bilbo found this ring, and he put it in his pocket instead of trying it on. It seemed obvious that if you find a ring, the very first thing you would do is try it on.
2022-06-04 Rerun commentary: When Bilbo opened his eyes, he wondered if he had; for it was just as dark as with them shut. No one was anywhere near him. Just imagine his fright! He could hear nothing, see nothing, and he could feel nothing except the stone of the floor. Very slowly he got up and groped about on all fours, till he touched the wall of the tunnel; but neither up nor down it could he find anything: nothing at all, no sign of goblins, no sign of dwarves. His head was swimming, and he was far from certain even of the direction they had been going in when he had his fall. He guessed as well as he could, and crawled along for a good way, till suddenly his hand met what felt like a tiny ring of cold metal lying on the floor of the tunnel. It was a turning point in his career, but he did not know it. He put the ring on his finger almost without thinking; certainly it did not seem that there was anything else sensible to do with a ring. Immediately Bilbo was assailed by horrific visions and voices as the dark attention of Sauron turned to gaze through him and into his deepest and most secret terrors and fears. Unable to resist the incredible power of The One Ring - for that is what it was! - Bilbo descended into darkness, only metaphorical this time for he was still in quite literal darkness. With a fresh mind to corrupt, Sauron's influence drew Bilbo to the depths of Mordor to the deliver the Ring unto him, thus sealing the fate of Middle-earth and ending our story somewhat prematurely.

More inadvisable webcomic gimmicks:
Webcomic whose server sniffs your IP address and displays subtly different versions of each page based on your geographic location; the art is identical and the story in its broad strokes is consistent across all versions, but the dialogue gives very different impressions of certain central relationships between characters.
Purportedly autobiographical webcomic whose protagonist's life story consists of the plots of various popular science fiction and fantasy films, played out in reasonably complete detail, but interpreted through the lens of the "describe a film badly in order to make it sound as boring as possible" meme.
Webcomic which builds up a dedicated readership, then begins updating on an irregular schedule with frequent unpredictable delays, taking each page down after a few hours and deleting that page's source files, with the explicit goal of causing as much of the comic as possible to become lost media.
Garfield-style gag-a-day webcomic in which every strip consists of an identical tableau of two characters sitting on a couch, differing only in their dialogue and facial expressions; a separate, entirely unconnected ongoing story is related wordlessly and in miniature via the window visible behind the ostensible protagonists' heads.

Spoiler Warning for the webcomic Aurora (@comicaurora)
I haven't seen anyone point this out yet so I will bc I love it:
The details of Dainix's ignan markings on his right eye!
He's got some flame patterns specifically downward from his eyes (now that I think of it, they kinda remind me of Rayla's face markings from TDP, which is cool & I think the two would be friends for many reasons, but back on topic). The one on his right specifically, underneath his eyepatch, has irregular edges that don't show up on the left side. While this could've just been the markings not being symmetrical, this isn't the case for Dainix.
It's directly underneath his eyepatch, which we know is the result of a scarring injury,
Most importantly, it's shown to be even with the other in the one panel where his uninjured right eye is shown,
And the pattern matches the area of the wound, you can even see how the skin was altered by the upward movement.
This isn't regular markings, it's part of the scar left by the attack. Of course the majority is underneath the patch, but this shows that there is some of it shown underneath.
Which is fucking AMAZING attention to detail!!!

Cyberchase - The Lesser-known Cybersites: #1 - Valussa
I decided to give some recognition to some cybersites that, to my knowledge, have never shown up in the Cyberchase show proper, but are known to exist through other media.
I will start with Cybersite Valussa. So far, it has only appeared as part of the "webisodes", which were a set of prequel webcomics that were released on the pbskids.org website prior to Cyberchase airing. These are no longer on the site, and the Wayback machine captures are missing pieces. However, they have been preserved in full by Blue Maxima's Flashpoint Project.
The Hacker was banished from Control Central to the Northern Frontier. This was after a failed plot to take over Cyberspace that involved stealing Motherboard's Encryptor Chip. Long before infecting Motherboard with the virus, The Hacker wanted to show her that he meant business. So, he shut down the power to Cybersite Valussa, leaving it in darkness.
Here is the one picture of Valussa, straight from archives of the website. It's a bit grainy due to age. Remember that this was 2001, so they would have done some pretty serious compression to serve it as web content. If there is an original image in higher quality, I am not aware of any public release.
We can see that the land mass has an irregular shape, with multiple peninsulas jutting out. We can see buildings in the the shape of bolts and wafers. Some of them are connected, but it's not clear if those are for plumbing, electrical conduits, or bridges. It's hard to judge the scale, since we never see anyone visit the site.
Here's the original shot from webisode 2 for context, after The Hacker has shut down the power.
Valussa is important. This is the moment that Digit, in spite of his great fear of The Hacker, his creator, betrays him.
Digit sends a coded message to Valussa explaining how to fix the problem.
Digit manages to save Cybersite Valussa.
This is also the point where The Hacker discovered Digit's betrayal and locks him up.
Digit breaks out of the cage with his beak and finishes his defection from Hacker. He is welcomed back to Control Central. He has worked with Motherboard ever since.
I think it would be cool to eventually bring Valussa into the main show, as a nod to the older part of the fanbase. I have doubts that they would actually do it, due to the comic being dropped off the site so long ago.
Edit: I decided to come back to the original post with higher-quality pictures of Valussa.

Like everyone else who uses Twitter as a rowdy bar where you can read highfalutin political takes while watching the real-time saga of a brother-in-law who accidentally purchased an entire semi trailer full of uncooked rice, I'm now searching for my social media home once that bird site implodes. kbspangler.com - Personal website which is updated when I have major project news such as book releases, etc. Personal information is shared, but the focus is on writing, editing, and comics. Has a signup link for my mailing list, which I have now sent out...um...twice? This is also where potential editing clients can query me about their projects.
Patreon - Regular updates on Monday/Thursday with AGAHF comics. Semi-frequent news updates on projects and books. No personal information shared. Basically paywalled with a minimum of $1 a month.

what's the most out-there webcomic you've read?
I don't know if I'd describe any of the webcomics I've read as "out-there", to be honest! I keep irregular check on some fun ones these days (are y'all reading runaway draikana yet. Go Do That) and i used to bounce around several when i was younger, most of which either I don't check on anymore or the artists have moved on to other things (Abby Howard and GGDG come to mind for the latter - on that note Abby's The Last Halloween might well count for most out-there webcomic I've ready, but only in the sense that it's The Good Kind Of Weird).

The Children of Sheol.
Beneath the deepest circles of the Gulch it is said that another world exists, a dark world where the lights of the foundries never reached. A world in which the Corporate Overlords of the Gulch hold no power, where the Mortelle curse with the most vile of dust infused slurs, where the Rattler broods fear to tread, and where the eyes of the Ministry can not peer. This land is called Sheol. Ruled by the Children of the Watchers, the Acolytes.
Many have heard of it, surely you too? It was wide spread during the Mirth Pandemic of 1917, anyone that used the Electrosphere heard it’s hollow knell calling to them. Yet you seem perplexed, you doubt my claims yet you know in your heart that I am right. Each irregular beat is followed by the knell of Sheol.
Each of the Angels has its own cult.
The Guardians of the Gothorum Falls, and the Temple of Typhon, the Cult of VENALI. They are said to hold Human life in high regard, offering a place to all those whom seek the understanding and knowledge of the Angel Typhus.
The Shapers of the Dargoath Shores, and the Temple of Manus, the Cult of TALISAC. They are the creators of the Vile Mongroids, they capture humans and perform horrifying acts of unspeakable evil on them. Shaping and reshaping them in ways of that please the Angel Manilok.
The Oracles of Lucidia, keepers of the Obsidian city of Anatomica, the Cult of LUCIDIQUE. Strange and still forms, they are mouthless and motionless, not much is known of them, as very few if any humans have ever entered the Obsidian city of Anatomica. They are said to be the mothers of all the Acolytes.
The Dark Prince, Morgoth. He stands in the entrance of Anatomica, the few who have met him have said that they felt the presence of an ancient and all consuming evil around him. Something truly wicked stirs around the dark prince.
Humeaba, the first acolyte. Lord of the city of Anatomica. He is the king of all of Sheol, a massive and corpulent beast. All must bow to him.
