Playing off of the old Tumblr X 4chan stuff, Tumblr used to be a bit of a crazy girl who went wild in her youth and had serious far right tendencies. But while 4chan OD’d on Nazism, tumblr weaned herself off of it, and after breaking up with Yahoo, and hooking up with Verizon who tried to turn her into a different more upright person, she finally settled for Automattic.

She was expecting Automattic to be her last BF, and that she’d run herself into the ground for them, but it turns out they’re not that bad and Tumblr’s been getting back their mojo.

Now Tumblr is the in-universe equivalent of a fandom old, running a coffee shop while everything else burns around them.

Major plot developments would be getting something approaching a sex life after Verizon tried to force her to be celibate, desperately begging Twitter to stay with her when she realized that Elon was even more abusive to Twitter than her last BF, and going to 4chan’s funeral/getting into fights with all of 4chan’s kids who drove him to an early grave.

So uh

I accidentally created a new potential AU idea yesterday.

I have no idea if a possessed Finn AU was FULLY explored like THIS, but basically, I thought it would be cool if there was a timeline where Finn succumbed to the Lich’s well of power instead of Princess Bubblegum at the end of “Mortal Folly”.

This would lead to Jake inevitably trying to save Finn, getting himself killed, & becoming either another vessel for the Lich or a mutated beast that acts as the Lich’s “guard dog” per say.

I tried to make the symbol on the crown look like a comet instead of the awkwardly-shaped bone symbol from the old crown, ya know, cause Finn & the Lich were both reincarnations of catalyst comets.

American Girl Doll thrift finds!

I found this Addy figurine, cookie tin, and the Willa wellie wishers doll!

When I found the two things, instantly wondered if there was any dolls donated because I assumed they all came from the same donor. Which luckily I did find one! I have fix her up a bit and get her an outfit, sometime!

You know what’s astonishing about Katara? She grew up in a world without bending.

It’s not surprising that Sokka calls her bending ‘magic water’ in the first episode. It might as well have been magic to them at that point; they had never seen it in practice until they meet Aang.

So not only did Katara not have any teachers, she didn’t have any kind of guidance, no visual aids, no idea of how bending is supposed to look or work. The first time she ever sees actual waterbending movements is when she steals the waterbending scroll from the pirates. The first time she meets another waterbender is when she reaches the North Pole, where within weeks she outmasters pretty much everyone and goes on to teach the Avatar.

Everything she does is so incredibly impressive, and yet I can’t help but feel the most proud of her when she catches a fish on that little boat.

changes and trends in horror-genre films are linked to the anxieties of the culture in its time and place. Vampires are the manifestation of grappling with sexuality; aliens, of foreign influence. Horror from the Cold War is about apathy and annihilation; classic Japanese horror is characterised by “nature’s revenge”; psychological horror plays with anxieties that absorbed its audience, like pregnancy/abortion, mental illness, femininity. Some horror presses on the bruise of being trapped in a situation with upsetting tasks to complete, especially ones that compromise you as a person - reflecting the horrors and anxieties of capitalism etc etc etc. Cosmic horror is slightly out of fashion because our culture is more comfortable with, even wistful for, “the unknown.” Monster horror now has to be aware of itself, as a contingent of people now live in the freedom and comfort of saying “I would willingly, gladly, even preferentially fuck that monster.” But I don’t know much about films or genres: that ground has been covered by cleverer people.

I don’t actually like horror or movies. What interests me at the moment is how horror of the 2020s has an element of perception and paying attention.

Multiple movies in one year discussed monsters that killed you if you perceived them. There are monsters you can’t look at; monsters that kill you instantly if you get their attention. Monsters where you have to be silent, look down, hold still: pray that they pass over you. M Zombies have changed from a hand-waved virus that covers extras in splashy gore, to insidious spores. A disaster film is called Don’t Look Up, a horror film is called Nope. Even trashy nun horror sets up strange premises of keeping your eyes fixed on something as the devil GETS you.

No idea if this is anything. (I haven’t seen any of these things because, unfortunately, I hate them.) Someone who understands better than me could say something clever here, and I hope they do.

But the thing I’m thinking about is what this will look like to the future, as the Victorian sex vampires and Cold War anxieties look to us. I think they’ll have a little sympathy, but they probably won’t. You poor little prey animals, the kids will say, you were awfully afraid of facing up to things, weren’t you?
