#I think I’m not into undertale anymore and then beautiful things like this show up on my dash

What are some other supernatural romances that you like and recommend? They can be any media; books, films, tv-shows, anime and manga.
……. So maybe it’s because of my preferences but the romance aspect of a lot of these are subjective or minimal (They’re more plot focused and people just kind of fall in love along the way)
It is impossible to like, do a search on this because a million like YA novels pop up, and like, I’m not even looking for NOTHING BUT ROMANCE, I want a sick plot and ALSO romance
but off the top of my head this is the best I can do
Manga/Anime
Fruits basket: slaps obviously, I should not even have to mention it, textbook pure love and acceptance by the heroine ends up saving the monster boy from despair. Tohru is an incredible protagonist.
Noragami: Suffering heavy, all gods are real, read the manga, the art is beautiful and the anime has a tone problem where they try to make it more comedic like……………….Noragami is not a comedy, it has comedic moments and is very funny, but the story really dark in places. (Also it’s written by a woman so, even the like, token sexy character isn’t that bad fan service wise and also is a character outside of that)
BEASTARS: Uses animal nature as a metaphor for society, we’ve all seen zootopia and Robin Hood, we know how this goes. If you’re a sucker for size difference (and I am, note Sidon and 9 foot tall Vampire lady) you’ll probably get it. Zootopia’s success managed to normalize furries enough that Beastars was able to be made and honesty I’m proud. Season one is on Netflix, but you’re not going to want to watch it in any communal areas because there will be questions and scenes that you will not want to have to explain to your parents or housemates because….it’s spicy.
Frau Faust: like the Ancient Magus Bride but less problematic, can enjoy mostly guilt free
Mugen Spiral: It’s like a two volume manga, I’ll admit I have not read it since I was a teen, so maybe it has not aged gracefully shrugs
(Honorary mention but it’s not a romance)
Girl from the other side: I AM PRAYING THAT THIS WILL NOT BE A ROMANCE AND TURN INTO GROOMING, I JUST WANT THE MONSTER TO BE HER DAD, WHY IS THAT SO HARD FOR PEOPLE TO UNDERSTAND SHE IS A CHILD. IT DOESN’T EVEN HAVE ROMANCE AS A GENRE SO MY FEARS MAY BE UNWARRANTED I’VE JUST BEEN HURT TOO MANY TIMES BEFORE
Movies
Shape of Water: It’s literally a supernatural romance but also…textbook using the “falling in love with a monster“ as a metaphor for marginalized groups like, it’s set in the 60’s and the villain is a white guy trying to ruin the lives of the good guys; a mute woman, a gay man and a woman of color
:I
It’s very on the nose, and that can be…..a little upsetting, but the film is like……a masterpiece so I would recommend it anyway.
Beauty and the Beast: ………everyone agrees the beast becoming human was a downgrade and I’m not going to say any more on that.
….Venom: ….should not count but I feel like spiritually it SHOULD count……….Venom is so queer coded and yet not queer enough?? I think they are actually in love in one version but not in a lot of adaptations which bites.
Good Omens: I’ve always loved the book, but the miniseries adaptation is SO GOOD. Aziraphale and Crowley are like….queer coded but they are….IN LOVE AND YOU CANNOT CONVINCE ME OTHERWISE and the miniseries LEANS into that interpretation
Books
Naomi Novik’s novels: Uprooted and Spinning Silver were great although Uprooted didn’t really win me over in the romance department and I prefer Spinning Silver. I love fairytales so I’m always a sucker for fairytale retellings that….are not modernized in the wrong way.
Video games:
Undertale: …….. :I I’m not wrong.
Liar princess and the blind prince: …..I have not played this, so I can’t actually verify if it’s good or add any input…….but it seems like my aesthetic.
Podcasts are so gay:
Magnus Archives: Eldritch horror is scary, but also it’s canonically gay and kind of about how those two things kind of intermingle. Passes the “I listened to a lot of it, but I was still able to sleep peacefully afterward” test. The first….ten episodes rely too heavily on scary music, but they tone it down after a while thank god.
Welcome to night vale: Also gay and surreal horror, same deal but less scary.
The Adventure zone: DnD game by the three Mcleroy brothers and their dad. Started out as just a one off adventure but everyone accidentally got way too invested and it became AMAZING.
There’s this thing that happens in the princess Bride with the line “Hello my name is Anigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die” and it is set up in a way that is funny and a joke…………………….
And then 3/4 of the way through the film…it is not a joke anymore, and it HURTS YOU. That is one of my FAVORITE TROPES IN ANY MEDIA EVER and they fucking DID THAT AND IT HURTS.
If you’re not an artist and your job doesn’t mean that you need to listen to a constant stream of audio media while you work, you can read the graphic novel adaptation, but it won’t hit you the same way I think.

Can I have something upbeat with Sans types since my 15+ year partner just discussed abt their lack of giving AF about my ptsd and anxiety (but effing forbid I do this to them) And I just realized how they've been affecting my insomnia bc they didn't give AF? Just... something nice please since this individual convinced me to leave my job for theirs (they're now my supervisor and I'm kinda hitting a depressive streak)...
Anon, I’m so sorry to hear about your situation... This maybe won’t be upbeat, but I’m hoping it at least qualifies as nice!
Sans (Undertale): His smile is a little tight when he looks at you, but the lights in his eye-sockets hold your gaze earnestly. “hey,” he says carefully. “i’m...i’m here for you. i know that’s...it ain’t much, but... i believe in you.” He smiles. “you’re a real star. i know you’re not gonna stop shining ‘cause of this.”
Paps (Underswap Papyrus): He takes your hands in his, looking at you intently. “you deserve support and understanding.” The way he says it, firmly and without hesitation, you know this is nonnegotiable. “it isn’t fair that you’re not getting that. ...but i know you, and...i know you’re strong. whatever you decide to do, you’ll get through it.”
Jasper (Underfell Sans): “that’s fucked up.” Blunt, but maybe not untrue, and the anger you can hear in his voice--the unabashed, appalled disgust--is a little validating. “ya’ don’t act like that,” he grumbles. “ya’ don’t treat people like that, not the ones yer supposed to--!” He cuts himself off, letting his words trail and taking a breath, and when he turns to you again, he’s wearing a crooked grin. “don’t suppose you’d let me give this partner a’yours a little...‘talkin’ to,’ wouldja...?”
Rus (Swapfell Papyrus): He doesn’t understand, even for a second, how your partner could just...not care, when you’re upset and in pain. It’s cutting him to the core. “...please,” he begs you, his claws curling around your shoulders urgently. “please take care of yourself right now, in...in this...” It seems like you’re already trying to, but he hopes you’re reaching out to someone, if you can; if your partner isn’t listening to you. He doesn’t want you to be struggling alone.
Slate (Horrortale Sans): He’s gentle when he cradles your face in his hand, his eye-light dimming a bit, but full of understanding. “it’s not your fault,” he says slowly. “nobody can control...what they’ve been through... the stuff that hangs on and makes you......... the scars.” You feel his, against your cheek, and know he’s speaking from experience. “you don’t have to pretend they’re not there...just ‘cause somebody else doesn’t like them.”
Ash (Undergloom Sans): He’s on you almost before you even finish speaking, pulling you into a hug. You can’t see his face anymore, but he’s warm and his embrace is soft. “it’s...it’s hard to find hope when you’re in a dark place,” he tells you, his words halting and measured. “when you can’t see a good end... or a way forward that isn’t...... but. don’t stop trying to find it again. you can get there. wherever ‘there’ is, for you. i want that for you, okay? i want you to keep hoping.” Your shoulder feels a little wet... but maybe his is wet, too, so it’s probably nothing to comment on.
Brick (Horrorfell Sans): The only sound he makes is a snort, not altogether flattering, but he looks pissed enough that it’s maybe better not to comment. He paces a bit, his fingers clenching and flaring as he searches for the words and gestures he wants to make with them. In the end... he doesn’t make any. He reaches for you instead, scooping you up off the ground and into his arms. He doesn’t have the words--even if he still had his voice, he wouldn’t have them--and he doesn’t know what you need to hear, what you want to hear, if there’s anything he can say at all to make this better for you... but what he can do is hold you, showing you that he’s there for you and that he cares about you.
Ell (Horrorswap Papyrus): “dump ‘em.” He grimaces a little at the look you give him, maybe wishing he’d built up to that, or said it...more sensitively... but he doesn’t back down. “you deserve better than that,” he says matter-of-factly. “you deserve more than that. you have worth and it’s not tied to your partner and how you can make them happy, at your expense. you shouldn’t keep sacrificing for somebody who won’t even pretend to care about you when you have problems. ...but i dunno, whatever. they’re your partner, not mine. maybe i don’t know what i’m talking about. just...think about it, i guess.”
Nemo (Horrorswapfell Papyrus): Slowly, carefully, he reaches out to you, tentatively brushing his claws against your hair. “don’t... don’t put this on yourself,” he says at length. “it’s not... you have some issues, maybe, but......but that doesn’t mean you aren’t... that you shouldn’t get the same love and attention as anybody else. if...i-if they don’t get that, that’s them, not you.” It’s...maybe the most you’ve ever heard him say in one go. He must think what he said was important.
Sunny (Gastertale Sans): He frowns at you a little, his skull tilting in confusion and concern. “you...you know that you’re...important, right...?” That you should be getting the same consideration as your partner gets from you. That your trauma and anxiety shouldn’t ever be brushed off like that, not by somebody who’s been with you for fifteen years. That this… that if what you’re saying is true, it......might really be time to start asking yourself some really hard and uncomfortable questions about this relationship you’re in, for your own sake. ...But he’s no good with words and he doesn’t want to upset you anymore than you already are, he really doesn’t. “just...you’re important. i care about you. you matter.” And you deserve to be with somebody who feels the same way.
It’s a beautiful night out tonight. The boys would like to take you out to Mt. Ebott, to watch the stars, take your mind off things a little...
Why don’t you grab your coat and take a breather?

((Undertale story I started working on featuring my classic girl Winny!))
I wasn't really trying to be popular at school, I did that on purpose to keep a low profile yet even after 6 years of human public school it did eventually fail me only because if I hadn't used my magic someone would have got seriously hurt at school. The teacher for some reason trusted them on a ladder to hang decorations from the ceiling to go with the nice autumn weather but the shoes worn had no traction and of course I wasn't going to let them hit the floor even as the ladder crashed down. Everyone had gone dead silent with many not knowing about the magic part of me with the purple wisps enveloping the individual...but now as my kindness was my weakness I agreed to be a tour guide of sorts into the underground for the group of friends the girl belonged too so they wouldn't air out what had happened to the entire school. They wouldn't leave me alone for the rest of the week after seeing what I could do, it seemed like my only option even though I could hear Daddy in the back of my head warning me about how unstable the underground had become after monsters left. But we walked here so frequently to see Mom, I was pretty positive I could do it alone with a group of other twelve year olds.
"Its pretty creepy down here Winny, you said it was beautiful."
"I said it use to be beautiful, monsters have been on the surface for six years now and no one is really keeping up with maintenance down here anymore. There isn't really a need."
"Wow okay, sorry I asked then."
I just rolled my eyes and bit my tongue; that girl was Macie and she believed herself to be queen bee of the whole middle school. Yet her soul held no kindness unless you kissed her butt and worshipped her. She was the youngest amongest us having just turned twelve a few days ago and on her birthday in school...I would have rathered had a picnic in Hotland then be around her in that ugly fluffy dress she wore. Yet people loved it and were jealous. I was glad that I didn't have to deal with her much.
"Its kinda cool Macie, the capital I mean. It's huge! And the buildings are still so spectacular!"
Kloey, Macie's best friend since elementary and the exact opposite in her sweet nature and trying to always get along with everyone. I liked her, we had good conversations and she was the one that I saved from the ladder so she was extra sweet to me and even invited me to her parents house for dinner. Daddy really liked her too, she stopped and talked with him when he picked me up from school even before the accident. If I could be her best friend instead of Macie that would probably be the best outcome for all of us in the end.
"Kloey you're so freaking weird. They're buildings, what's so amazing about them? The brick?"
"Of course! The fact that they're so well designed and sturdy still standing on their own. My dad is in construction, you know that. So this is really awesome to see."
"You're a building nerd."
Hearing Kloey giggle let me know she didn't take Macie seriously at all but holy crap I wanted to throw a snowball so bad at her when we arrived in snowdin!
"You think it's haunted down here?"
The last one to our group was Nicole, she was also nice but was a bit on the edgy side liking hauntings and ghost and all things spooky. We talked about Halloween alot recently, she wanted to be a vampire and I hadn't decided yet so she offered to help me figure it out whenever we had class together. All in all, two nice people and one sour apple...I was managing.
"We have to go through the lab to get to hotland, it's been cleared out mostly but nothing in there works if it's been left behind."
"There's a lab?"
Slowing down so I could walk between Kloey and Macie as Nicole asked on the other side of Macie.
"Yep! My Dad use to work there. It was used to try and figure out how to break the barrier before Frisk came and helped us."
"Thats pretty cool."
"It is, Alphys built all kinds of things. She's the little yellow dinosaur who built Mettaton."
"That crazy robot thingy that's been showing up on tv?"
I couldn't stop the glare towards Macie but managed to have nicer words.
"Mettaton is amazing and super sweet, they come over for dinner so they can hang out with my Uncle Papy. They aren't a thingy Macie."
"Oh my god you're getting your feelings hurt alot today aren't you? Maybe being back in the underground is to traumatic for you."
I stopped constructing whatever bit of kindness I had close together to not go completely off as I turned and stared her in the eyes. The glow of my magic reflected off her skin as it flared to life in my normal hazel eyes.
"I spent the best six years of my life down here with my Daddy, Uncle and extended family. So hearing you speak so unkindly about one of them will set me off...and I suggest you don't do that anymore. If you want to leave go ahead, have fun walking the capital alone back to the surface."
With that out and some weight off my chest I went right back to walking having found the elevator impressed that it still came when I called for it as I stepped past the threshold looking at the others.
"So? Who's coming with me?"
Nicole stepped foreward immediately joining my side but I could see the fight going on over Kloey's features. I knew she was just as excited but she was also to nice to even think about abandoning Macie regardless of her yucky attitude. Her decision was almost made when I saw the tiniest step towards the elevator just for Macie to cut her off and get in.
"I'm not going back up...you said you would show us the underground and we've barely been here so...sorry...Kloey come on!"
The smile that came on was so cute, she ran in as I pressed the button closing the doors and sending us down. Being without Daddy for the first time gave me so many possibilities to explore alot more of the lab at last! He wasn't the biggest fan of it and there were several occasions where he would teleport past it to the front doors so we could at least walk around hotland. Of course I was curious of the place thanks to how he reacted around it always wanting to know what else was being held here that may have been left behind all along.

Day 6: Trust
Yellow everyone! Day 5 of ErrorDream Week, hosted by @errorxdream, here we go! I have nothing to say, really...except, I suppose...you are going to HATE the ending to this little story.
ALSO! Yes, all the prompts for this week are connected in one big story. Soooo…if you missed it, you might want to read Day 5 to understand everything in this one!
Fandom: Undertale, but specifically Dreamtale, Errortale, Inktale, Dusttale and Underswap
Characters: Dream, Nightmare (Who belong to Joku), Error (Who belongs to CQ), Ink (Who belongs to Comyet), Dust (Who belongs to ???, I don’t know) and Blue  (Who belongs to P0pcornPr1nce)
Pairings: ErrorDream/Insomnia
Warnings: None, I don’t think so. Let me know!
Word Count: 1975
~oOo~
Dream was still hesitant. Error was waiting.
Nightmare had helped them both realize a way to deal with their feelings.
Now, the question was:
Did Dream trust them both? His brother, who had been trying to defeat him and fought him almost to death in the past? His soulmate, who destroys multiple words, killing thousands of people as a living? Did he trust their word?
...Could he?
Let's find out.
~oOo~
Dream hesitated as he entered Outertale. He knew that this was the place. He just knew it.
However, he had a hard time accepting that he should come here. He wanted to be with Error; he really did, but he was just...afraid. Yeah, that was the closest word. He was afraid to commit to this, that the moment Error got sick of him, he would be left behind. It had happened before. He didn't want it to repeat.
He wasn't afraid of love, not exactly. He just...had made a promise to himself that he would never fall in love, because doing so only led to hurt and sadness, both emotions that he had to avoid unless he had wanted Nightmare to find him. Although...now that Nightmare has approached him like they hadn't been fighting in the first place...he didn't know what to think anymore.
What was true and what was not?
What could he trust and what couldn't he?
It was all so confusing.
Dream stopped. He gazed up at the stars above him. They were so beautiful, with all their colours and twinkling. He smiled at it, tears still at the corner of his eyes. It was more than he deserved. He looked down at his feet, frowning.
He shouldn't be here.
He didn't deserve it.
He rubbed at his eyes as he turned, only to freeze. Error gazed back at him steadily. All was silent. They stared at each other, Error calm and almost knowing, Dream with wide eyes, tears waiting to start. It hurt. It really did.
Error seemed to want to move forward and the slightest movement from him made Dream step back. The Destroyer seemed to notice this, as he stopped and stood as still as he could. Dream stared at him, wary, chest tight.
"Can I talk?" Error asked him, tilting his head at the guardian. Dream blinked at him. "You don't have to say anything, I just ask that you listen to me and think about it. Okay?"
Dream looked down. He knew that Error would wait until he was ready. If not now, then at some other time. The Destroyer was patient. Nightmare had also said that he should listen. He still had his doubts, but...
He owed it to him, to both of them, really, to listen, right?
He looked back up and nodded quietly.
Error exhaled and relaxed. "Thank you." He fell silent for a bit, allowing Dream to relax as well before he started. "You're afraid, aren't you?"
Dream froze and stared at Error with wide eyes. How did—
"I figured it out after you left. It was rather easy, actually. It made sense." Well, that answered his question. "And..." Here it comes, the anger. Error was going to ask him why he felt that way and get angry when he told him. It's what always happened. He—
"...it's okay."
...what?
"You're afraid; not of me, not of love, but you're afraid that people who say they love only mean that because of your aura." Error dipped his head, starting to walk towards Dream, who stood rooted to the ground. "And that's okay. You're afraid and that's okay. Okay?" He stood in front of Dream, a pained look in his eyes. "I promise you that."
Dream was silent; he didn't trust himself to speak.
"I want you to know, that your aura has nothing—and I mean, nothing," Error swore it, making sure Dream got that into his head. "to do with how I feel about you. You may think it does, and that's also okay; no one has tried to show you anything else. I will. I love you, Dream, and I'm going to everything I can to show that it's genuine." The Destroyer hesitated before reaching out and holding Dream's hands tightly. "Just...give me a chance?"
Tears started down Dream's face. He didn't bother to stop them.
He still felt that Error was mistaken. That as soon as it came to light that his aura was, in fact, making these feelings up, that Error would get angry and break off what sort of friendship they had. So would Nightmare, as he cared about Error, Dream knew he did.
But...
Maybe he could enjoy it while it lasted...
"Okay." Dream whispered, squeezing Error's hands back. "One chance."
~oOo~
One month later...
~oOo~
Banter, with an underlying sound coming from a video, could be heard echoing in the Anti-Void. Error and Dream were sitting on the beanbag chair; Dream's legs were thrown over Error's lap, though the Destroyer didn't seem to mind. In front of them, was a video playing. It depicted human characters, all played by the same person. It was a show they had found in the human world of one of the AU's which was rather liked, called Sanders Sides.
Currently, they were arguing about who was the best side between their two favourites.
"It's clearly Patton, I mean come on!" Dream swore, waving his had to the video just as his favourite appeared. "He represents Morality, the most important thing to have!"
"But you forget that sometimes your Morality can be blinded." Error pointed out, waving to the screen as well as his favourite appeared. "So, you're wrong, and Deceit's clearly the best one! He protects Thomas, who, without him, would burn."
"As he also would without Morality!"
And so, it went on: Patton or Deceit (or as they would find out later, Janus)?
~oOo~
Another month later...
~oOo~
Dream was just opening the door when Blue spoke up from behind him.
"Are you going to visit Error again?" He asked, making Dream freeze in both the fear at being caught and surprise that Blue knew. Dream turned around slowly to face him, eyeing him in suspicion.
"How do you know about that?" Dream asked. There was no point in trying to cover it up if Blue had already pieced together that much.
Blue smiled mischievously. "I have my ways!" Dream narrowed his eyes. Blue was being vague again; that never boded well. Just look at what happened with the Christmas party a couple of years back... "Now, you didn't answer my question. Are you?"
Well, I kind of did but okay. "Yeah."
Blue blinked and nodded slowly in response, a serious look taking over his face before vanishing the next second. "Okay. That's fine." He grinned at Dream. "I'll be sure to come up with the perfect excuse to tell Ink about where you are." He tapped his chin for a few seconds before lighting up and pointing a finger in the air. "Aha! I know just the one; oh, I've been waiting for this day..." With that, Blue turned and hurried back to his room, supposedly.
Dream blinked. He blinked again.
...Yeah, he wasn't going to spend his time assessing what had just happened.
He was just going to go with it.
~oOo~
Yet another month later...
~oOo~
"So," Nightmare started as a new conversation topic, moving his knight and taking Dream's pawn. "How's Error been? Treating you well, I hope."
Dream blushed and looked away, smiling shyly. "He's been good. Both for himself and for me." His brow furrowed as he surveyed the board. He was losing; badly, at that. He hesitated before moving his bishop.
Nightmare smirked as he took Dream's bishop, making Dream groan. "That's good. My offer still stands, you know." He leaned back, crossing his arms. His tentacles waved behind him.
Dream glared at Nightmare. "No, you can't kill him if he breaks my heart." Dream sighed as he looked at the board. He half-heartedly moved a piece and braced himself.
Nightmare huffed. "Whatever." He smirked as he took another one of Dream's pieces and surrounded his king. "Checkmate." He leaned back as Dream groaned in defeat. "I still remain the champion of this game."
A voice came from behind him, making him hiss and startling both him and Dream. "But didn't you loss top Cross just this last—" Dust didn't get to finish as Nightmare spoke over him.
"DUST, what are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be with Killer?" Dust only blinked at him before turning to Dream, who perked up.
"Error's here for you." Dust said, fiddling with his knife.
Dream brightened, making Nightmare forget about Dust for a bit. The kind smiled to himself; he hasn't seen Dream this happy in a long time. Clearly, Error was the best thing to have happened to him. That made Nightmare glad.
~oOo~
Another one...
~oOo~
Outertale had become one of their favourite spots in the Multiverse. Both because it was so pretty and of the memories for them that it held. Dream and Error sat side by side, watching the stars and holding hands, legs dangling off of the cliff. They did this a lot, but it was always so peaceful.
Dream hummed as he rested his head on Error's shoulder. "I swear, they get prettier every time we come here."
Error laughed. An idea forming in his head, he side-eyed Dream as he spoke. "But not as pretty as you, Starshine." He felt Dream freeze beside him and laughed again.
Dream lifted his head, a faint but bright blush on his cheeks. He shoved Error's shoulder, but that made the other laugh even more. "S-shut up!" He huffed as Error continued laughing. He crossed his arms. "That was cheesy, even for you."
"I know, I'm sorry, but I just had to." Error looked at Dream pleadingly. "Forgive me?"
Dream smiled. "Of course."
They went back to their previous position. They stayed there for at least an hour. Eventually, they decided to leave. As Error snapped his finger and started towards the portal, he heard Dream speak up.
"Hey...Error?"
Error blinked and turned back around to face him. "Yeah?"
Dream fidgeted before taking a deep breath and walking forward. He leaned up and gave Error a loving kiss before pulling away just enough to whisper, "I love you." Error's arms wrapped around his waist and held him there.
Error smiled, a warm feeling in his chest, and whispered back, "I love you too." He pulled Dream into another kiss before they left.
~oOo~
Finally, five months after the starting talk in Outertale...
~oOo~
Ink grinned as he hopped down the stairs and made his way into the kitchen. He felt confident that today would be a good day. Blue was just finishing up at making pancakes when he entered. Ink hummed and his gaze landed on the empty seat at the table.
"Hey, Blue? Where's Dream?" He asked, sliding into his seat at the table and helping himself to some food.
Blue looked to the seat as well before grinning. "Oh, he's probably out with Error again." He paused as he thought. Ink froze, a forkful halfway to his mouth. "Or he might be with Nightmare; he's been going over there too recently." Ink set down his forkful and drummed his fingers on the table.
"What's this about Dream and Error?" He tried to sound as casual as he could, but some stiffness slipped through. He hoped that Blue didn't catch it.
Luckily for him, Blue didn't and looked at him only with surprise. "Oh, Dream hasn't told you yet?" Then he was rambling on and on about how Dream and Error were soulmates and how they sparked everything else.
Blue was oblivious to Ink's eyelights turning red as he spoke.

6 Surprising Storytelling Techniques Video Games Teach You
Video games are art in that they stay with you. They’re a full-bodied, visceral experience. The death of a major character might even feel like the loss of a loved one to you, that’s how close they become.
Without further ado, here are six storytelling techniques video games can teach you…
1. Branching
Now, this might be more of a thing for those old-school, text-based RPG gamers or the Choice Of/ Telltale variety. But anyone who played the choose-your-own-adventure style games (whether online or by flipping through the pages of a novel) knows that there are 5 bajillion (true math) choices to make in a video game. Choosing to go left instead of right might make you turn the main character into a villain for all you know, or unlock a hidden ending. Branching is the complex webs of design that go into that framework for a video game that has multiple endings (think the True Good End/ Neutral / Bad End type of routes a la Undertale or Bioshock).
It just goes to show you, sometimes in stories, we might not be able to see the butterfly effect when we’re in the midst of an adventure, but it definitely sees us.
Tumblr media
2. Sometimes, Going Off the Beaten Path is Way More Interesting
We’ve all done it. The wise old owl giving you your quest tells you to diligently pick up your sword and fight monsters. Instead, you smash every vase in every house in Hyrule just for laughs. Or maybe, some spectacular world-building catches your eye, and instead of running after the companion leading you on your journey, you choose to chase the holographic sunset instead.
Sometimes, a story takes you one way, but you’re caught up in discovering something you weren’t even meant to take that seriously. Sometimes, the story becomes entirely unexpected, and that’s where the true adventure awaits you.
Tumblr media
3. Consider Belief Suspended
You’re telling me I’m a tiny red-clothed plumber running around outer space and fighting a spiky turtle?
Am I an assassin inside an assassin game inside an assassin game trying to assassinate me?
Twelve-year old fighting pet monsters against each other to become a professional monster trainer to kidnap other monsters I find out in the wild?
Sounds legit.
The quickest way to accept a world entirely different from your own is when you enter a video game world that just enchants you. You might not be human anymore. You could be an embodied teacup, but the world is still realer to you, somehow, than the one you escaped... at least, for a little while.
4. Music Brings Back Memories
Undertale does this beautifully, presenting subtle themes that overtake you... (Sometimes, for especially chilling effect.) Or like in Transistor, when the absence of sound can be even more heartbreaking than its implication.
Whatever song makes you laugh or cry or be immediately taken back to the end credits of Portal, just know that the power of music is real to you.
Tumblr media
5. A Replay is a Whole New World
It might seem counterintuitive. Even if there’s no branching effect, and it’s a linear quest story... A replay will still have different meaning. That’s the beautiful part of games, isn’t it? Of art?
Viewing a painting, reading a book, rewatching a movie... The second time feels different. You grow, and so does your interpretation of what happens, even if it’s the same exact thing.
You change, and so does the replay.
Isn’t that amazing?
Tumblr media
6. Transportation
Tumblr media
Call this Ready Player One, but whether it’s VR or a simple handheld console...
There’s no denying that by entering the ludic circle of a video game, you leave this world behind for a new one.
Even Dungeons & Dragons, just a pen, pencil, some playbooks and your imagination.
Video games teach you to see what isn’t there, and to believe in the unimaginable.
Never stop dreaming.

So I made an undertale fanfic, with my own characters, and my own story. There will be other characters and AUs that I didn’t make, but this is completely original. And I am SO nervous. I am definitely not a professional, and I’m probably really bad, but I wrote 3 chapters and I’m extremely nervous but also exited to show them. Also I’m sorry but I don’t know when to stop a chapter so I’m sorry in advance because the chapters are really short.
Thank you @zu-is-here for saying I shouldn’t be scared to post them on my own blog, and giving me the courage to do so! Thanks!
Anyway let’s get to it! Welcome to the story of wormhole!
P.S: this is 13+, and even tho tumblr is also 13+ please don’t be mad at me if it’s too heavy for you, because I’m not responsible for exposing kids to things they shouldn’t be exposed to. Thank you and I hope you enjoy this!
**********
prologue
Once a hundred million timelines a glitch appears, a being will be born with no soul. It’s a forgotten one, and usually it doesn’t even affect the timeline at all. But this time, THIS time, it did more then affect the timeline.
It created a wormhole.
Chapter 1: it’s a life I swear
Before you read this, remember, these things can happen to you too, and thoughts like these are common! I’m just living my life, like a normal person, and I’m normal! I do have some problems, but everyone has problems, so it’s normal and I’m normal. oh also don’t tell anyone you read this. Thank you!
I’ve been dreaming.
It’s kind of new, because dreams are something I don’t really like so I never do it.
I hear it’s very uncomfortable too. People wake up from them and can’t go back to sleep, they can be scary, or weird and only on special occasions they can be nice.
So I never do it. If it hurts so many people, nobody should do it, and I shouldn’t either. so why people do it anyway? But I think it’s rude to ask.
I started dreaming. And I can’t stop. I thought I would be scared but I wasn’t. It wasn’t what I expected too. It’s all white. And voices. SO MANY VOICES. It’s horrifying. But I don’t feel horrified. Why is that? I should shouldn’t I?
it started to really affect me, I think. I’ve started to hear the voices even when I’m not sleeping. At first it was just before I fell asleep, so I thought I was dreaming that I’m hearing them awake. But then i started to hear them when I was alone and completely awake.
at first it was distant, but then became louder. It was more like people yelling then whispering. No, more like loud whispers.
I told this to my brother, and he was surprised, saying “you never had dreams before! Maybe you’re getting better!”
...He didn’t tell me everything he felt. The way he acted, his movements and facial expressions reveals everything. He thinks that I never talk about myself, and he’s happy I’m talking about what’s going on with me. He’s also worried about my condition so “me getting better” is an improvement at every way.
But he’s right. I think? It sounds right. No, I heard that’s wrong. Still, is it wrong? what am I thinking? it’s wrong, he’s wrong, I’m wrong, I should just listen.
.....
Maybe I shouldn’t talk about this with other people. I won’t inform the doctor. yeah. Sounds right.
I want a job. My brother works, other people work, and I’m old enough to work as well. But I’d like a workplace that I can be alone in. Maybe I can be a sentry. My brother works at the royal guard, so with this job he can keep an eye on me so I won’t get into trouble. Is that wrong? No that’s right. I’m right. I’ll ask him the next time I get the chance.
I’m a sentry? Is that right? Yes that’s right. The leader of the royal guard told me “if a human comes here, kill it and do it like you’re life depends on it.” Is that right? It sounds... bad. What am I thinking? I’m overthinking everything too much lately. it sounds completely right. Why wouldn’t it? It IS right.
I heard the royal guards fight for many different reasons. I think- no, I know my reason is I need human souls. I.... know why? I have more reasons, I just don’t know what they are yet.
Anyways, what she said is completely right. All humans should die. And it doesn’t matter what it takes, I’ll kill every human that comes down here. Even if I die in the process.
... I think I’ll keep these thoughts to myself. And the voices of course, don’t yell!
I’m starting my first shift tomorrow. Everything is falling into place.
Chapter 2: WHAT IS HAPPENING?!
My dreams are always so happy. It’s weird that everyone I know dreams of bad things but everything I dream about is always so beautiful. But how can you not like the silence? How can anyone dislike the blank never ending white? How can you not adore the voices that whisper so loud? How can people wake up from a dream like that? It’s always so interesting. And everyone is so kind. Maybe I’m just the only one that likes these kind of things. No, wait my brother said thinking about me being different from others is bad- WHO CARES ABOUT WHAT MY “BROTHER” SAYS?! I’LL THINK WHAT I WANT! I HAVE A MIND OF MY OWN!
.....
I apologise, WE have a mind of our own.
I don’t like people. They can be loud, annoying and they all smile, all the time. Why can’t everyone just whisper? It’s way better. Actually, they can do what they want. Just don’t do it with me.
...does that make me different?
.....
In some way, I hope so.
Now that I have all of this time to ourselves, I like to look around. I found out there is a door at the end of town. And if I’m correct, it’s probably the end of the underground as well. Will a human come through here?
I should guard it with my life. no human will survive.
I need magic. My brother always told me to start small, but I don’t care what he says because everything he says is wrong. to kill a human I have to be the strongest. I have to learn to summon a weapon. One that will succeed. I’ll train near the door from now on.
I did it. It took 2 weeks of training but I finally made my very own weapon. it’s beautiful. It’s long, sharp, and perfect for a good stab between the ribs. Also it has the most accuracy. I like holding it. Throwing it. Swinging it. Spinning it. Cutting with it. Cutting trees, cutting the snow, cutting the ground, cutting stone, cutting wood, and sometimes myself. It hurts, but seeing it cutting things is enough pleasure to endure the pain. i can’t wait to see it cut through human bodys. Just imagining the experience is making me smile.
..... what’s wrong with me? I hope that a human comes quickly so this feeling will go
Away. I like it too much.
The door opened. Too much yelling. STOP.
I killed it. I have a soul. The sound of the knife.... it was VERY satisfying.
I think, I’m supposed to absorb it. I didn’t think about it that much. I just took it and-
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! ITS BURNING! EVERYTHING BURNING! I HAVE TO GET TO THE WHITE-
Oh. That’s better. So calm. Quiet. Alone. It’s ok. I’m ok. We’re ok.
Chapter 3: nothing.
I don’t see anything. I don’t hear anything. I can’t taste, or smell. Except myself. Now that I think about it, the only real thing here is me.
Even my shadow hates the voices. that’s probably why it left us. How low did I get? Did the pain do this? Did I do this? Did the voices do this? Did the soul do this? Was it the human or myself? How did I get here and why? Why am I here? Why am I in the middle of nowhere? Aren’t I supposed to be everywhere? And how did I get to the middle? Is there even sides or ends?
I don’t think I like the white anymore. It hurts. It’s so loud I can’t get up. It’s so loud my body screams back. I feel my eye sockets exploded. Everything hurts. It hurts so much, even the voices scream in agony. It hurts so much, this place is in pain too.
I feel like every part of my body is breaking itself and fixing itself together, just to break again. It’s endless. I’m just cutting myself, the pain will go away eventually right? but it doesn’t. It never does. It’s endless. It’s repeating. It’s a circle. It’s burning. It hurts.
Why does the white hurt me? I’ve done nothing but love it with all my heart. I’ve been only good to you. Why are you treating me this way? I’ve adored your silence, your hunger, your emptiness. Every minute I’ve known you I only loved you, and I never forget you. Yet you hurt me with no mercy. Have you no feeling for me? No love? No friendship? Not even trust? I ran to you when I needed help. Why are you pushing me away? I trusted you. As beautiful as you are, I’ll never trust you again. Goodbye.
Let. Me. OUT. Do not play games with me. If you hate me that much then you might as well let me leave. I’ll kill you. I’ll destroy you for hurting me. I’ll destroy you for hurting the voices.
...
BE SCARED!! REACT! DO ANYTHING!! LET ME OUT! Please... let this pain go away....
Why are you torturing me like this? Do you like seeing me get hurt? Is that why you brought me here? To trap me and see me go insane from pain? Well let me tell you. I’m already insane. I doesn’t even matter. There was already something wrong with me. So you can let me free. You can stop the pain.
No.... stop... you’re killing them.... no no no no no.... please....
It’s getting quieter. I’ve never hated the quiet more in my life. I’ve never hated something like you more in my life. You killed every single one of them. The last told me to run somewhere safe. They cared for me. They told me right and wrong. They helped me in difficult times. When I was hurting. When I was scared. When I needed help they came. You. You stood and watched. You said nothing. You did nothing. You just look pretty. I don’t know why I even liked you in the first place. You just hurt. You monster. Imposter. Traitor. Heartless creature. Killer. You’re horrible. Every part. Even your beauty is pure evil. I hate you. When I escape I hope I never see you again.
I feel sick. I’m going to throw up. I can’t. My head hurts. More then usual. Everything is spinning. I just want so sleep..... to stop the pain..... sleep.... I shouldn’t.... I... sleepy....
I woke up. How long was I sleeping? Ugh. I don’t feel real anymore. I think I changed. Did YOU change me? Wait. There is something- No, someone here. With me. Who are you? Wait, you were here the whole time? you didn’t realize.... you are actually here.... did you sleep? Did the pain awaken you? Who are you? What are you?-
Stop it with the questions. I’ll answer them all. Slow down first.
...
You’re the human aren’t you.
You’re real. You’re here. I killed you. But you’re still alive. Thank you. I was so alone. I don’t care what brought you here anymore. You came. I’ll be forever grateful for this. I’ll do whatever you want! If you don’t leave again. I’ll give you my life. My power. By body to control. My mind. You can have it all! Just don’t leave me alone. Please. It’s all I’m asking for. I’m begging you. Plea-
I said stop.
...
I’m sorry. It’s too quiet. I don’t like it.
Honestly, me either. Let get out of here.
I can’t, we’re trapped-
Didn’t you just told me you’ll do anything for me? Then I say we leave this awful place. come on! Let’s go!
Ok. I’ll try. But only for you. One, too-
It’s spinning! THIS WAS A BAD IDEA- ugh.
Let’s never try this again. I feel sick.
I’m.... I’m free. I can hear. I can see. I can smell. I can taste. IM OUT! YES! THANK YOU, THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Ok ok I get it, stop yelling, we don’t know where we are!
I doesn’t matter! I’m free! I’m alive! And I’ve never been happier! Anywhere is the best place in the world as long as it’s not there! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
But you!... I... ugh. your welcome. I hope you feel better.
Better! BETTER! This is the best day of my life! I can’t even explain this feeling! It’s freedom! Real! Not broken, not a dream, no pain! My soul is breathing in relief! My body isn’t burning endlessly! My pain is healed! And colors! Black! Blue! Green! Gray! Brown! Red! It’s beautiful! It’s hugging me, saying how they missed me! I’ll never leave them again! So warm! So cold! So much of everything!
Wait. Did you say red? Where?
Oh red! So bold! So loud! Such a pretty color!
Yes, but where did you see it last?
Oh, but it’s right here! See, behind that tree! Oh trees! I’ve missed you! So insignificant! So useless! But so colorful! Green! Brown! Gold!
Hey! Don’t lose focus! you... what IS your name?
Right! the red! Where was it again?
answer my question!
But it doesn’t matter. My name has no meaning to the world, and I have no need for one.
You don’t have a name?
People called me “sans”. I don’t like that name. It doesn’t fit me at all.
Then what SHOULD I call you then?
.....
Wormhole. I take all the happiness around me without mercy. Usually I never even intend it.
It does fit better then “sans”. Well done.
..... thank you.
Oh. Blood.
Yes. As you mentioned red, I suspected it was blood. gross.
It is gross.
Yes- huh?
What wrong?
You change your mind completely! You thought blood was beautiful, and the moment I said it was gross you agreed! Like you thought that from the very start! Why?
Well it’s just right. You said it. You think that way. You think it’s right. Then it is isn’t it? I was wrong, and now I’m right.
Wormhole, that’s not- huh. Then, what if I told you all humans are evil and will try to kill you the moment they see you?
Then it’s true. Do you think that way? Is it right?
I see. First of all, yes it is true. Also I’m not a human. second of all, I’m your best friend. You will trust no one else except me and the ones I trust. You will do as I say no matter what. I love you and you love me. Do not forget that, no matter what I do. Got it?
Sure best friend. Also, what is YOUR name?
It’s cha- I mean, my name is... um..... real. I’m real. Nice to meet you, um, new best friend.
Of course real! It is very nice to meet you!
Wormhole, listen to me. You feel tired, not physically. You want me to take over your body for an hour. You CAN do this. This will not affect our soul and mind in any way. You just give me the control for an hour.
Right. Let’s do this.
...
It worked. Heh. This will surely be amusing. Welcome to my world little puppet.
*********
There you have it! I know it’s very short.... but I prefer story’s with less detail and a lot more happening. I already in the middle of chapter 4, so you’ll have it as soon as I finish it. Thank you so much for reading!

As much as you loved your husband and how much you already loved your two twins, pregnancy was hard. You were achy and tired, but seeing some of the beautiful things that happened with the little ones was worth it. Sure, there were a lot of downsides, but a lot more upsides to this journey.
A few weeks back, you had felt the twins moving for the first time. As they moved, you gasped, unintentionally spooking both Sans and Papyrus into thinking something was wrong. However, the moment you pulled their hands to feel the light taps and wiggles under your skin, both started to beam happily. Sans had almost burst into tears, pressing his face both carefully and lovingly into your belly, his one red eye light a fuzzy heart shape.
Another incredible upside was how things in the house seemed a lot better. This wasn’t to say there were many issues, but Sans had been making active strides to remember things in the house. He started off simple, remembering what day it was or trying to remember how far along in the pregnancy you were. As time passed, he made more efforts to recall different things, such as what foods easily upset or settled your stomach.
You cried when he came to you one morning and told you he remembered what you two wanted to name the twins. Damn you, hormones, for making him worry that you were sad when you were overjoyed.
Additionally, the nursery had finally started to come together, with soft neutral colors painted onto the walls and a dual crib for the twins in the corner. Papyrus had all but thrown you out, in spite of your ever-increasing nesting urges, when the paint was being put up.
“I Will Not Allow One Single Bone In Their Body To Become Compromised Because You Came In And Breathed The Paint Fumes!” he had stated, shooing you out gently and forcing you to wait.
“Please, Papyrus?” you begged. “One little look won’t hurt before the paint is dry, I just need to make sure everything’s okay! Is the crib covered up and clean?”
“Everything Is Accounted For, Now Please, Go Sit Down On The Couch!” His tone was exasperated but gentle enough that you knew that he meant no harm. As Papyrus had told you, everything was in the appropriate place, and you were growing more comfortable with their little room every day. Now it was only a matter of time.
Even with the beauty of your pregnancy and all the love being into these two little lives, there were still difficulties. Some of your work had to be lessened since you couldn’t do what you used to anymore. The twins were getting bigger daily, limiting your mobility and sapping at your energy, and you were getting close to needing a break. Sans was supportive, of course, and a massive help when you needed something you couldn’t do anymore to get done.
“come on, lamb chop, you know you shouldn’t be up and about like this, doctor’s orders,” he murmured into your hair as you tried to reach for a spice. “pap can handle the cooking for today, you’ve been on your feet for hours, far too long. come sit down and take a rest, please?”
A sigh escaped from your mouth, knowing full well that Sans was right about that. You had been up with a surprising amount of energy today, and your snap decision to cook dinner, so Papyrus didn’t have to worry about it wasn’t the best idea. Gentle, bony hands took the few spices you had managed to grab out of your hands gently and replaced them in the cabinet.
“I just wanted to do something nice for Papyrus,” you protested weakly, though you didn’t reach to stop Sans. He chuckled behind you, guiding you carefully to the couch so you could take a load off your feet.
“i know, and he would appreciate it,” he hummed softly into your hair, “but he wouldn’t appreciate you burning yourself out and risking some sort of injury or strain to yourself or the twins for him. we got it, okay? you’re already doing a lot of hard work by keeping those two in there.”
The words were accompanied by a very gentle boop of his finger against your swollen belly. The gesture made you smile, and you leaned into his more substantial frame as he relaxed next to you. As you two were cuddling up together, some television on in the background, you felt the twins start to shift again. This wasn’t unusual lately, knowing that they were trying to stretch as much as they could with their ever-shrinking space.
When you took a moment to glance down at your stomach, though, you weren’t expecting to see a tiny imprint pushing up against your skin. Slowly, against the rapidly building excitement you could feel in your chest, you tapped Sans on the shoulder. When he turned to look, you pointed out the small bump, which disappeared shortly afterward.
In the next moment, Sans was kneeling in front of you on the floor, gaze transfixed on your stomach in hopes of seeing the same little phenomenon again. Much to both of your delights, another small bump appeared a few seconds later, a bit more to the left than the first one. Sans brought up his hand to very delicately trace the outline of what appeared to be a foot, leaving the bones resting there even after the little foot moved away. Both of you were almost holding your breath, staring at the spots you had seen.
“that was them, right?” he asked after a long period of silence and watching for more of the bumps. “that was them letting us know that they’re here, showing us that they’re really here, right?”
The excitement in his tone was palpable, and you found yourself unable to actually speak, so you nodded instead. Once again, you found Sans’ red eye light turning into the shape of a heart, and he pressed his teeth carefully against your stomach to nuzzle it ever-so-gently. His hands were gently cupping the sides of your belly, even though they could almost completely cover the surface area without an issue. You ran your hands over his skull, making sure that you avoided the hole as always, wishing you could bend over just a little more so you could kiss him.
“and how many more weeks until we see them?”
“I’m thirty-three weeks now, so only seven more, and we can hold them both in our arms,” you responded, not missing how his grin widened all the more at that.
“i love you, do you know that?” he asked softly, looking up at you from where he was by your belly. As you opened your mouth to respond, a series of small kicks tapped right next to where Sans’ hands were resting. Both twins seemed to be active participants, and to no one’s surprise, he was all over having his twins pay attention to his voice.
“hey there, i’m your dad,” he hummed softly against your skin, eliciting another flurry of movement from them both. If his smile got any wider, you would have sworn that his jaw would break off from his skull. You grinned as Sans began to murmur whatever he could think of to the twins, jokes, words of adoration, even plans that you two had for them later on after they were born. You were finding your energy was beginning to flag, but your husband appeared to have a fantastic handle on everything, so you leaned back and closed your eyes, enjoying listening to him talk to the babies.
Papyrus would find you two hours later, with Sans still chatting quietly to the twins while you took a nap on the couch. Pictures were taken, and neither skeleton could keep a smile off their faces for the rest of the evening.

Another installment for @popatochisssp in my little baby series! I know it’s been a while since I visited this one, but I wanted to put it up before the Undertale Secret Santa thing is due (because I haven’t written that yet and I need to...).
Enjoy! You can find the other installments below!

Self Indulgent Self Insert Fanfic, Part One
I am sitting in my room, not doing much of anything, (as per usual) when I look up and notice that my mirror has apparently transformed into a solid wall of inky darkness as I’ve been spacing out.
And well- it’s not like I can not poke it, right? There’s a high chance I’ll seriously regret it, if my life has become the isekai it appears to be, but there’s a 100% chance I’ll regret it forever if I don’t touch it, you know?
Everyone always assumes I’m risk averse, that I like to play it safe, but the truth of the matter is I’ve just never found something I really want to take a risk with.
So, I push myself out of bed with a hand and go grab my shoes, because there’s no way in hell I’m touching something that might be a portal with no shoes on. Thankfully, I’m actually dressed for once, rather than being in my bathrobe like usual.
Once I’ve got my shoes on, I grab my coat from where it hangs by my dresser and walk straight into what used to be my mirror. I hope my parents aren’t too worried by my disappearance. Maybe I’ll be lucky and this will be the kind of isekai that retroactively erases me from existence? That would be kind of nice, to exist without tethers.
The portal (because that’s what it is, I’m pretty sure) feels cool, but not unpleasantly so. Like when you first put on a fleece sweater and it takes a moment to warm up.
If this were a stereotypical isekai story, things would quickly become very unpleasant in this dark void, and some godlike being would reach out to grant me power beyond my wildest imaginings.
I’ve never been one to cave to expectations, though. Not even my own.
The darkness remains cool and comforting, and I continue walking forward because there’s no chance I’m going to turn back now, with so much possibility awaiting me if I only continue long enough.
Eventually, I feel as if I’ve passed some threshold, and something definably changes within me. Can’t say what, though. I’ve always kinda sucked at interpreting what my body is trying to tell me, so I’ll probably have to figure it out on my own.
At some point the darkness and walking grows boring, and so I do what I often do when bored, and curl up to go to sleep. This place isn’t cold enough for me to need a blanket, and I’ve got my coat with me anyway, so I’m fine. Sleeping on hard surfaces isn’t unpleasant, in my opinion, merely a bit annoying, since if you pick the wrong position you’ll inevitably wake up sore.
As always, consciousness takes a while to fade, so I occupy myself with grand imaginings about all the wonderful (and terrible, I’ve got anxiety okay, I can’t help it) things that might await me.

When I wake, it’s immediately obvious that something is different. There’s light now, for one, and for two I can feel something soft and organic beneath me. Judging by smell alone… Flowers? Waking up on a bed of flowers in a lit room… Well, I’ve always wished I could live in Undertale, if only so I could chew out the characters for bottling up their feelings so damn much. Hey, maybe if I’m lucky, that one headcanon I have about Sans secretly being a teenager will be right and I’ll be able to flirt with him without it being creepy.
Oh come on, like everyone attracted to dudes and not overly hung up about species concerns doesn’t want to kiss that guy, are you kidding me? Plus, I love puns and I’m depressed, surely we’ll get along.
Oh boy, I’m definitely going to die, huh? Thank fuck for my high pain tolerance and ridiculous resistance to trauma, am I right?
Finally, I open my eyes, because I like to wake up slow and I see no reason to alter my existing routine simply because I’ve apparently been yeeted into my favorite video game. Hey, speaking of favorite video games, will I get to visit Hollow Knight next? No, wait, that would probably suck, wouldn’t it. Ah, well.
The cave is just as beautiful as I always imagined it would be. Though it looked lovely in the game art, there’s truly nothing that can compare to seeing the sight in person, those marble pillars in a half circle around me, that single spot of sunlight in the ceiling far (far, far) above. Not to mention the lovely flowers I’m laying on at this very moment and- there’s a dead body under me, isn’t there. Is Chara going to show up, or am I left to be alone in my head?
Though their narration doesn’t actually start until you meet Flowey, in the game, so I suppose I’ll just have to wait and see.
Wait.
Wait wait wait.
Which human soul am I taking the place of right now? Because I read a fic once where the protagonist wasn’t the seventh, even if it was a fakeout, and I very much do not want to be saddled with the fate of those poor bastards.
Though, maybe I’d be able to talk my way out? There’s no one who’d call me diplomatic, for sure, but I’m pretty great at knowing exactly where to aim an insult to utterly break someone’s spirit. (Unusual skill, I’m aware, but in my defense I was bullied growing up)(I say “growing up” like I’m not still doing it, like I’m not fourteen and trapped in a world where it’s an accepted fact that the protagonist will die, and several times over, too)
My first order of business is Flowey, before I can take the time to freak out, to hold myself tight and weather the sheer panic that Toto, I am not in Kansas anymore.
I get up. I give a last fond look to the beautiful cave I’ve “fallen” into, and I walk to the next room, hoping all the while that I’m not signing my own death sentence.
Once I’m a few feet in, there he is, in all his fucking glory.
Flowey the flower, the soulless remnant of prince Asriel Dreemurr, former hope of the underground, possibly still holder of the ability to control time itself.
Yeah, I’m definitely going to mess with him. Self preservation is for losers.
“You’re a flower with a face,” I say before he can start with his usual greeting. I have it memorized anyway, so it’s not like I’m missing out on anything.
He makes his T-T face, so I know this isn’t how he thought this would go.
“Wow, human! What gave you that impression?” Ooh, sassy. Literally his only positive trait.
“Well I have eyes, see,” I was planning  to ask him probing questions, but honestly this is just as good. His expression doesn’t change as he says his next sentence, nor does his ever cheery tone, (and holy fuck his voice is just as vaguely creepy as I’d imagined, all that childlike innocence paired with the fact that he’s a mass murderer)
“Well howdy, human with eyes! I’m Flowey, flowey the flower!” He says. I don’t interject.
“You’re clearly new to the underground, and it looks like I’m the only one around to show you how things work around here! Are you ready?”
“I’m really not, to be honest. I’ve got no idea what’s going on,” So my plan here, basically, is to stall until Toriel gets here. Mostly because I’m hoping that if he doesn’t get the chance to do his betrayal, he’ll keep pretending to be nice, which will be hilarious since I’ll know he’s faking the whole time.
Admittedly, this significantly increases the likelihood that Toriel won’t come to save me when he inevitably finds a secluded place to murder me, but if I think too hard about the long term right now I’m going to scream, so.
“Well you see, human, you’ve fallen into the underground, a land inhabited by monsters! Don’t worry though, we’re quite nice,” Oh right, conversation. I wonder how much info I can get out of him…
“What’s a monster? Like, I know what it means on the surface, but that definition is pretty vague, and I don’t want to be accidentally racist,”
His face pops back to the usual smile. (Side note: his face looks like it was drawn on with sharpie and it’s totally messing me up)
“A monster is a being made of magic!” Ok, that’s… a bit vague, but not really inaccurate. I guess he doesn’t want to get into the science, which is a damn shame, since he probably knows it backwards and forwards due to all his reset shenanigans.
“Woah, cool. Magic is real? How does it work without breaking thermodynamics?” Finally, the question I’ve always wanted to ask. If energy can’t be created, how the fuck does Toriel shoot fireballs from her hands? What is she drawing on, what is the fire burning, how hot is it, how does it keep being on fire, etc. etc. repeat for every magical display in the game.
“Well, a lot of it isn’t super understood. Scientists have mostly been pinning it on ‘dark energy’ like they do with every other phenomenon they don’t totally understand,” I wonder why he’s so willingly entertaining my time wasting antics. I know, in game, he didn’t realize he’d lost control over the timeline until after his first talk with Frisk, so maybe he’s just waiting it out to see where it goes? And then of course he must be planning other things to do with me before he takes my soul and goes to the surface…
“God, I hate dark energy in science. I know they just call it that because not much is known about it, but I’m thirsty for knowledge, you know?” Actually ‘thirsty for knowledge’ describes my mood like 90% of the time. Huh, actually, I have that in common with Flowey, right? Even if his knowledge thirst is just due to boredom.
“Hey, human, me too! Learning new things is great!” There’s a loaded sentence if i’ve ever heard one. When was the last time he learned something new? He’s supposedly read every book in the underground, but how much information from that did he actually retain?
“Isn’t it? It’s why I love Youtube so much. Free information for anyone who cares to make a few clicks!” Wait, he probably doesn’t know what Youtube is, actually.
“What’s Youtube?” He asks, cocking his head.
“It’s a service where you can upload videos or watch videos other people have uploaded,” Not the most nuanced explanation, but it’ll do for now. Before Flowey has a chance to respond, a fireball manifests next to him.
I don’t smile because I’m pretending to be shocked, but I’m laughing my ass off on the inside. The face he makes is even more ridiculous in person.
Enter Toriel, queen of the monsters, mother of no living children.

Beasttale
I'M TALKING ABOUT THE ORIGINAL BEASTTALE THAT I CREATED A FEW YEARS AGO, AND STOPPED DOING A YEAR AGO. This is aimed at the Beasttale tag, as I know a few have cropped up since I iced mine. So I don't want anyone to think I'm attacking them or the AU they like
A lot of my stuff has been removed from the Beasttale tag making it harder to find me and the things I made. It's annoying. Or been buried. So if this does go into the tag and anyone checking it out sees this, hi. I'm Ram and once upon a time I created a Beasttale and it used to terrorize the tag. It was the most popular version of Beasttale at the time and since has been laid to rest allowing different beasts to grow.
Anyone who grows curious about my AU. It isn't like the current popular one. Mine is unkind and violent. It has its soft moments with my boys. But for the most part it's not for the faint of heart. Don't go in looking for a gentle but scary Sans. You'll come out scarred 😂 Bomber was gentle at times, but he would 100% eat your guts.
I know the 4 of you left from my reign of terror are asking me, "Ram, why the f*ck are you doing this now??" Because I'm bored as f*ck and it's always bothered me that the story I wanted to tell, never came about.
So I'm going to basically explain what the story I had planned was. This will be confusing as I'm going to go over ideas I teased and or introduced, but either didn't explain well enough, or did nothing. Also some ideas I never talked about. I'll do some fun facts at the bottom about Boys that I designed, but never implemented, and some other odd ideas I had.
Tldr; Bomberboy (Sans), was an experiment of Gasters. He had a human soul shard (Perseverance) along with 4 other monsters in his soul and brain, which is why he's a mess. BB shoved Gaster into the CORE, which corrupted the dimension. It made everyone big and a little meaner. But not too far as at the time I was too scared to go too far on anyone but Sans and Alphys. After that it's just basic Undertale plot. I'd do it all differently now. Tone down the violence and edge a bit…but increase the beast design a bit. But not too much. I'll explain later.
I’m just going to warn everyone now that is about as professional as literally anything else I have ever written. Sorry. It goes from explaining sh*t to like, almost storytelling and whoops. I'm not very good at this. Imagine a lot of hand motions as you read. This is years of story that I've been sitting on. Just. Work with me here. A lot of these ideas are very very old. The original name for Beasttale was Testtale. Name got changed because me and a friend couldn't stop laughing because testicle. We're adults I promise.
This whole thing takes place over nine years in universe. So I condensed the sh*t out of my ideas and it's all very rushed and bad. Forgive me. This isn't supposed to be written like a story. It's supposed to be written like I'm explaining things at him point 😂
Alright, alright, alright. So to start off. After reading the entries you can find in the hidden lab, and the idea that Gaster wrote them, I came to the conclusion that he was a massive asshole. As you do. Which is why Bomber hates him, and why I personally made him a massive prick. I like the idea of Dadster, but like, I had edgy designs, I had to have a reason for them. I had to have a reason for the scars Bomber had.
After an unknown helicopter pilot crashed ((this character does not exist in the universe of Undertale. She was made for this AU)), and subsequently went into a cave for safety, only to fall into the Underground, she was killed by Asgore. She fought as hard as she could, but she could do nothing against the powerful monster. Her soul was safely harvested and stored.
Asgore made the lie about needing 7 souls, which Gaster said he would corroborate if he was allowed access to one of the souls as they had 6 at the time. ((Another perseverance SOUL bearer falls shortly after. Which is how there are 6 SOULs by the time Frisk rolls around)) Asgore had two choices. He could deny access, in which case, Gaster tells everyone that any boss monster could easily open the way. Or allow him access. Of course Gaster reminded him that if the soul goes missing, then Monsters are trapped longer, which is what Asgore wants. Soul goes “missing”, Asgore claims it’s due to a small leak in the container, Gaster gets his soul and his plan goes into action.
A lot of Monster children just wander freely around the Underground because it’s safe! Monsters wouldn’t hurt other Monsters. Right? Well. Gaster is his own kind of breed. He’s very jaded from the war. Mentally broken. Saw a lot of good Monsters slaughtered. Has no empathy left for anyone. He casually snatches two kids that wander too close to his lab. A little skeleton, Sans, and a small lizard with no arms, Alphys. Something of note. I liked the idea of Alphys being Monster Kids older sister. So she lacks arms for this first bit. This was literally never mentioned at any point and if I do DeltaBeast stuff, Alphys will lack arms. It was a mistake on my part to give them to her in the singular piece of art that exists at this time.
Alphys is locked away as Gaster focuses on the mouthy little skeleton. Experiments on the kid. See how much he can handle before he needs a break. Then push him further the next time. Gaster is trying to make a monster that can break the barrier, and destroy humans. Sans, or J-5, as he was called in those years trapped with gaster, was hopefully going to be that monster.
Basic details for this as the actual details of the experiments were never really thought out. But I guess they could include. Breaking his bones and seeing how long magic took to heal them. Forcing him to fight rabid animals and see what he would do (mind you Sans would have been 10 when Gaster traps him). He fights them to protect himself. Physical attacks hurt. He's got a lot of tiny scars from them. Force him to fight for his life against half melted monsters. These he doesn't fight. Mentally and physically beat it into the kid that he fights or Gaster will hurt Alphys ((Which during this time she was just subject to SOUL testing as Sans always offered himself for the harder stuff)). All to get him to a fallen state so he can alter his SOUL. Things get worse later.
Sans isn't considered a boss monster here, and Gaster knows this. Giving Sans a full human soul would just kill him. Can't have that. Gaster has put too much time and effort into this experiment at this point. It's been a good three year of nonstop tests and beatdowns for Sans. He's ready. Gaster pulls out Sans soul and tears part of it away, slowly, carefully. Then wedges the human soul in its place. The piece doesn't fit right, but Sans also isn't dead yet. But blah blah blah, he's not strong enough to hold it and he starts melting down. Perfect. Time for phase 2.
Experiments J-1-4 were all failures. Note. It varies on AU on how many extra monsters were added to the boys. The monsters inside is what defines their heat form. Anyone remember that post with their forms that had some floating heads around them? Yeah. Extra note. The four monsters in Sans do not have names. They have designs, but any personality or names do not exist. Nor will ever exist. None could hold a shard of the human soul. But. Five monsters together trying to hold a soul? It might just work. Which it does obviously. He's kept all the failures in a state of falling down but not dead. Similar to the abominations in the lab currently. Alphys followed Gaster on accident. Just in a nicer way.
Sans is unconscious the whole time and remains as such for a few days. Gaster now waits as the tiny skeleton is reformed. It's boring. He's going to start up experiments on him when Alphys basically tells him to f*ck off and leave Sans alone. Which is when he turns his attention to her.
Now he wants a fair fight for Sans when's out and about. Sans needs a watcher or guardian ot some form to regulate his ideas. So now it's Alphys' turn for the f*ckery. Beat the snot out of her. Pitch her against other monsters. See how well she fights. Similar to Sans, she refuses to fight. When she can't take anymore Gaster stops the fight. Casually pops her soul out and just as casually slices it up and wedges the little piece of Sans in. Forcibly bonding the two in a way no one else understands. It's not like a mated bond kinda thing. It's a connection akin to siblings on the same wavelength.
This finally wakes Sans up. The whole time he was stuck in a dream with the new voices in his head. They're all super unhappy and they all want to use Sans to get back at Gaster. The sudden added weight of Alphys' fear and anxiety gets him on his feet. Alphys can feel the terror and confusion from Sans. She can't feel the others, just him. Gaster f*cks about with her soul and essentially her DNA. She's got arms now. They're painful and new. She hates them. Gaster did what he set out to do that day and tosses Alphys back in with Sans. Mostly to see what happens.
Sans is on his feet, but he's lost and with so many trying to fight for control right now, he's basically stuck where he stands. He wants to move to comfort Alphys, his friend is crying and needs comfort. The way she comforted him every day. Every voice in his head is screaming to attack. But he doesn't. He's stronger than them. It's his body dang it. Comfort that crying lizard. It's like a mutual thing. She feels better, so now he does. Gasters happy. Alphys can still be used as a safety shield then. He lets them rest. The coming years have a lot in store.
Honestly he lets them rest for a few days. But when he thinks they've had enough, barges in. At this point Sans is halfway to his Meltdown form. A form that has never been posted or ever mentioned. So don't go looking. I might post art of old concepts if enough people are curious. Teeth growing out of his head, fur and slime showing up all over his body. He's beautiful to Gaster. It worked perfectly. Keep in mind a lot of ideas for SOULs I made on my own. SOULs would kind of be like their whole genetic code, but you can easily alter it if you know how. Which is what he was testing on Alphys for.
Alphys sprouted feathers where her spikes used to be down the back of her head. Sans is now considered a Boss monster and Alphys a significantly stronger monster.
Sans has the strength to pull out of Gasters grip. Which gets him chained up. Which is how he got the scars on his wrists and ankles. Sans can't really do much besides pull away or mutter. Too much noise in his head. He can barely walk and is basically dragged. Alphys is trying her best to break out of Gasters grip because she has no idea what the plan is. But she knows it's not going to be good. Both her and Sans are different now. She's terrified. Sans just kinda stops and this causes Gaster to basically trip and nearly fall. Loses his grip for less than a second and Alphys tries to take off. Gets her new much longer tall grabbed. Scars from that.
Yay finally testing room. Seat them both in separate halves of the room. They can see one another, but can't hear the other or get to them. Answer some basic questions. How are you feeling and sh*t like that. Alphys is currently mortified and can't speak. Sans just can't speak. He can't even focus on anything. The person asking the questions is told to be ruder, ask more invasive questions. Things to rile up either of them. Nothing. "What would your parents think of you now?" Alphys starts crying. Gaster is testing for something specific right now.
"Do you think they would recognize you?" Crying harder. "What do you think your little brother would say?" Now she's mad. Looks through the mirrored glass and tells Gaster to leave him out of this. Ranting. Years of pent up anger and frustration. Guards are coming in as she threatens the scientists and guards with her chair. Sans starts purring and chattering on his side. The panic is evident on what remains of his face. Alphys calms down out of her rant as Sans continues to calm himself. Gaster is mentally fist bumping himself. Perfect SOUL bond.
"They're both calm. Go back in and do what you have to, to get number five to break containment." Guards go back in and well. Sorry Alphys. Few more scars and another beat down.
Sans is pretty quick to get up. Easily nudging his scientist down out of his way. He realizes he can't break the glass or break the wall with physical attacks. But magic. He got that good burn in his gut and zoop. He's got the ability to teleport now. Not what he was aiming for but it works. Gaster is so excited he might just do a little dance.
Easily knock the guards out of the way and hiss at them. Then comfort friend. Gather her into his arms and scooch into a corner where no one can touch her. Gaster is pleased with the results found, but he wants to do some physical testing with J-5. Instead of like, asking him to come along, Gaster goes the harder route. Uses a hook he's used before to move experiments. Hook it on their mouth and  pull them along. Well. J-5 is a little...soft inside right now. The hook slides through the roof of his mouth and just knocks right through his right lateral incisor. Which is how Bomber lost that tooth :) also why he's not keen on it being touched. It still hurts him a lot.
To the absolute horror of everyone in the room, including Gaster. J-5 starts bleeding. Blood just pouring from his mouth. Everyone is a gangster until a magic monster starts bleeding red blood. No one wants to touch him or the blood. Gaster basically grabs the broken tooth and acts like he didn't just internally scream. "Recontain them. Quarantine J-five. Decontaminate J-six and quarantine it as well."
Gaster does some testing and yeah, the blood is human and Sans' bone is partially human. So now he can survive at least some physical attacks from a human. Which funny enough. One just fell the other day. ((This Human has no name, and isn't important outside of the thing coming up))  The Guards are having issues locating the Human as they seemingly "vanished". Gaster literally just stood outside of Toriel's door and waited till it closed to grab them before the guards got there.
Sans is just tied to a bed. Chilling. Left alone with the new guys in his head. They want to dust everyone. They just keep chanting at him to kill. Kid is thirteen. He doesn't know what to do here. Maybe he should do as they're saying. Human in his head is like "dude. f*ck those guys. If you wanted to kill everyone you'd have done it. Just hang tight. We're all in this together now whether we wanted to be or not. We'll get out of this." Thanks dead human lady :D
Others don't listen. They're J-1,2,3,4. They've all lost it. They over power Sans internally and now he enters Meltdown mode. Full Meltdown. So he's an abomination of parts and teeth. He's f*cking strong. I mean, come on. Scientists had him held down with some cheap rope. Should be happy it held him down as long as it did.
Meltdown can't walk to save their lives. So they crawl. Large sticky arms that drag the dead weight of the legs and tail. Someone is trying to figure out how to leg while everyone else focuses on crawling to the door. Legs are moving. They use the door as leverage to help them up to their feet. Wobbly but they can move and attack efficiently.
First scientist spotted is blindsided. Meltdown crashes through them and immediately dusts them upon contact. Some others see this and the laboratory enters shut down. Gaster is alerted. Meltdown has killed a few more and is shambling around trying to find more to kill. There are thick plates going up their back. The ones near the tail are glowing purple. It's slowly traveling up their back through the spikes. I'm sorry but the effect looked really good in the most recent Godzilla movie.
Gaster finds and corners them when the glow is at the base of their neck. He immediately recognizes this is going to be bad and ducks out of the hall. Glow is all the way up and a purple laser beam shoots down the hall where Gaster had been standing. It hits a few people further down the hall and kills them. Melts through the metal at the end of the hall. This attack tires Meltdown out and brings Sans back to pilot his own body.
After that incident Sans is muzzled, chained, and monitored at all times. He's kept sedated until Gaster needs him. Like literally the day after the incident he throws Sans into a cage with the Human they had nabbed. Gaster tells the Human if they want to live, they have to fight the abomination in front of them. Sans tries to convey that he doesn't want to fight, but you know how people can be. Hits Sans pretty good in the head with a metal bar. The attack incites Meltdown. Which leads to a big laser beam, a very dead Human, and very shattered SOUL.
Three years later, Sans is 16, and is basically stuck in the back seat of his own body. The other four have had the controls basically since the Human test subject. Gaster just wakes Meltdown up to test the laser, and take some notes. Then knocks them out again. Notes have been used to make the Gaster Blasters. They're not ready to be used. Get to that in a minute.
While Meltdown is unconscious, Gaster has been teaching Alphys her duties. She's basically there to make sure Meltdown doesn't have another, well, meltdown. There to offer energy and help if needed. There to keep the beast under control. She can be replaced is what he always told her. Reality is, she couldn't have been, because any more chunks of SOUL taken from Sans would have killed him.
With Alphys finally brainwashed, she had no moral support the last three years, he moves onto Meltdown. Alphys is the only person Meltdown will listen to and the only one they will not attack on site. She can easily get them in and out of testing chambers. Get them to cooperate and not hurt anyone. To Gaster they're almost ready. He just needs to finish up his weapons.
Next three years, both are 19, and are a lot calmer. With the both of them listening and cooperating at all times, Gaster is able to focus on his Gaster Blasters. He's got an ego. It took the past three years to build the shells and make sure the laser function worked. Once he was ready he did a test. Added what remained of J-2's SOUL to the machine. It worked, J-2 was within the Balster, and was awaiting commands. Perfect. But they didn't listen to Gaster. Instead stared at him until he gave up. Muzzled the massive skull and went to find Alphys.
The skull acknowledged her, but wouldn't respond to her commands. J-2 doesn't acknowledge or respond to Meltdown. It's highly annoying to Gaster as part of who is controlling Meltdown is literally in the Blaster. J-2 won't acknowledge anyone in the laboratory. Even tried a few civilians under the guise of it being to open the barrier. Nothing. King? Nope. His guards? Nada.  Gives up for now. He has to do something else. These Blasters were supposed to be his weapons of mass destruction, but they listen to no one.
Except for when one little badger skeleton walks in. He heard about the big skull and he wanted to see what the fuss was about. Says his name is Papyrus, who is 17. J-2 responds to the name and acknowledges Papyrus. Doesn't listen to him, but it's something.
Gaster is very friendly with Papyrus. Trying a different tactic. J-2 follows Papyrus around, sniffing him, but still won't listen to him. Gaster decides to ask around. Having two little animal skeletons can't be just a coincidence. Asks around, and no one knows where they came from, and a lot of people have just been taking care of Papyrus when Sans went missing. Papyrus is treated like a guest not an experiment. Even helps Gaster produce three more Gaster Blasters.
Gaster takes a few more months to figure out that maybe he needs Sans, not Meltdown. Tries a kind tactic to help Sans become himself again. Both physically and mentally. Doesn't work real well. Sans has been just existing for the last 3 years. He's not strong enough to fight the other 4. Gaster figures maybe they want some revenge. Some dust. Gathers up some poor monsters and throws masks on them that match his own. Let's Meltdown loose. *jazz hands* lots of innocent monsters die in a pretty bad way. But Meltdown calms downs a lot after.
A lot of the extra monster bits melt back down and Sans looks like a human skeleton now. He's kept the sharp teeth, little tail and claws. Sans doesn't remember how to walk or talk anymore. It takes a few weeks to get him to walk again, and a lot more to talk normally. Alphys is very happy to see him and helps out where she can. She can feel that Sans is just playing along with what Gaster wants, waiting for his moment. She says nothing to Gaster.
Sans is very very unhappy when he finds out about Papyrus being there now too. Gaster of course has been very kind to Papyrus. Which helps keep Sans calmer. But now he really wants out. Gaster tries out the Blasters with Sans.
The Blasters listened to him. They did everything he asked. Gaster isn't an idiot, he's in a different part of the lab, and Sans is down in the CORE. It takes a few weeks, but Sans can control the Blasters almost perfectly. Power cuts out because another Human has fallen. Gaster of course books it down into the CORE. Bad move.
Sans is ready for him and ambushes him. Shoves Gaster to the edge of the magma, but he manages to save himself from falling. All the skulls are pointed at Gaster. Gaster taunts Sans and tells him he never had it in him to kill someone. It was never him who hurt anyone. He's too weak to finish this now. Well. Sans has had a lot of time, he has no issue shoving Gaster into the CORE. Gaster's claws just hit Sans' right cheek as he falls. Earning him his other facial scars. Very sensitive ones that hurt on cold days.
Gaster fell right as the human did. It f*cked with the code of the world. Gaster couldn't actually die. He's stuck in a forever melting loop. His hostility and actual monstrous form infected the code of the world. Everyone gets much bigger, much more edgy, and a whole lot more aggressive. Gaster is forgotten and the history of the world has changed. Since Sans was the one there the whole time, he forgot nothing.
Sans wakes up in Snowdin. Wearing a sweater he's never seen and pants he didn't like. He tries to find Alphys. He's terrified. She can tell and makes her way to Snowdin. He asks what's going on and she's very confused. Walks him back to the lab. It looks nothing like it just did for him. It looked so small from the outside. Inside was so tiny. There was nothing there but some robot parts.
He has a breakdown and Alphys hugs him close. When he's feeling better he explains what's going on. She stares at him for a few minutes just blankly. Her eyes saying she's reliving everything, but eventually she smiles at him and says she doesn't know what he's talking about. She can't explain her scars. What are you talking about, she's always had her arms. She offers for him to stay the night and have dinner with her. To see if he feels better in the morning.
Mettaton comes by. He's a super early model and has a few issues. Mettaton is offended Sans is there, but ignores him to whine to Alphys. Sans mumbles out what Alphys can fix to make the weight lessened. Everyone is surprised. Sans most of all. He's literally never worked in robotics. Mettaton laughs because everyone knows Sans is a lazy f*cker. No way he does robotics. Alphys shoos Mettaton away.
For the first time since he first ended up in the lab. He cried. Cried for all the years he was stuck inside his head as a passenger. Cried for everything that happened. Cried because he doesn't know where he is. Almost doesn't even know who he is. Alphys held him tightly the whole time. She doesn't know what's going on. He's never had a fit like this before. Small ones, but never this bad.
He ends up crying himself to sleep and Alphys makes him some food for when he wakes up. Checks his numbers while he sleeps. Yeah, what he said could actually lessen the weight a lot. Crazy dude.
To Alphys this is strange. Sans was his normal hostile and idiot self yesterday. Today he's intelligent and an emotional mess. She can't explain it, and just leaves it how it is. Reality is that Gaster is chilling behind her muttering things she can't hear out loud so she thinks a certain way.
He stays a few days until Papyrus comes and finds him. Sans doesn't feel much for Papyrus as for Sans, it's been years since he saw Papyrus. It's only been a few days for the tall now human looking skeleton.
Sans starts to realize over a few weeks that some days and moments seem to repeat. But he's still fine the whole time. Papyrus doing the same exact thing every morning. The people of Snowdin doing the same thing. He doesn't think anything of it until a big f*cking plant attacks Snowdin, killing everyone but him. He manages to keep the roots away with a stick when a little sh*tty flower pops out.
"Who in the sandy f*ck are you?" Flowey isn't super happy because everything is supposed to always be the same. There is no way in heck this guy has ever once been outside of his house during this attack. Flowey knows something is wrong. This guy isn't normal. Even when the world is paused, this skeleton is moving away from him. Time to f*ck with him.
Sans ends up dying a lot to Flowey over the next few months, which is just the same week on loop. Until Sans figures out, well sh*t. This guy has time powers or something. He's also had enough. He can't watch his friends die anymore. He has to teach this little brat that he's not the only one who can do neat tricks. Flowey pops up to greet him only to get laser blasted and the world resets back to the start of the week. Sans starts keeping a journal after that. Things he notices, things that don't change, things that do. Also starts seeing just how powerful he is. He's got plenty of time as Flowey keeps away from him now and is messing about with someone else now.
Sans figures out he can teleport on accident. He trips and accidentally teleports to the waterfall area. He thinks it's activated by severe panic. Until he starts experimenting a bit and realizes he can activate it whenever. First time was when he encounters the void. The dark space between areas. The stink of wet earth and whatever else I said the void smelled like. That's the first time he sees Gaster again. But the guy is now a pile of goop with a mask melted to it.
Gaster has nothing worry to say. So he just watches. Then in his left eye hole is a bunch of tiny eyes that open to stare. Which scared the ever loving sh*t out of Sans. More Gasters appear in the void over time and he starts seeing different versions of himself. He tried talking to one once, but the Gasters started shrieking. He doesn't stay too long in the void space after that.
Sans finds out about his gravity powers on accident as well. Papyrus falls and Sans tries to catch him, but misses. His power activates obviously. Papyrus is confused but also super excited because yoU CAN DO THAT TOO?! Papyrus teaches Sans how to properly use the ability. Sans finds out through this that Papyrus has anomalous abilities as well. Papyrus is able to defy gravity entirely and walk on air. But the biggest punch to the gut is that Papyrus can summon and use the Gaster Blasters. He doesn't like to because they're so devastating, but he will if he absolutely has to. Papyrus has no soul damage at all, so he just befriended the Blasters so they come to his aide.
Sans is unable to defy gravity as Papyrus does, but he can float just a bit. It tires him out pretty quickly. He finds that a lot of things do. Sleeps a lot of days. Finds out the hard way that he only has 1 HP left after everything that's happened to him.
Sans has been living for five years in this crazy loop thing. But it's only been 2 years in reality. He's 20 now. Going to be 21 soon. But he's tired. Broken down to the skeleton we know. He's got no fight left in him. Flowey is bored of him and bored of everything, so he finally let's time move normally.
It's September 15th and a human has just fallen. Word spreads pretty quickly. Sans is curious. He wants to meet this one. Mostly because he's never seen Flowey panic before. He wants to go inside the old ruins, but he's never met Toriel and from his understanding it's her home. It would be weird.
So he just hangs out in some trees outside the door, waiting. He finds out that his sense of smell is crazy strong pretty early on, but he didn't know he could smell humans so strongly. He recognized another scent on the human before they even made it to the door. Dust. This human had killed monsters on their way here. Now he's worried.
This human seems off somehow. Like they're not in control of themselves. He accidentally falls out of the tree making a fair bit of noise. Now he feels like he has to introduce himself because they're 100% staring at him rn.
He's super friendly and tries to be nice. But this kid is weird. Stares through him and doesn't take his offer at a hand shake. He sees them pull out a knife and easily dodges the attack. In a panic he attacks back. Which yeah. That early on a Blaster shot would kill Frisk.
He's reset to his home. It's the same moment from when the Human fell. Which it doesn't take much for him to figure out the kid has the time powers now.
And after a few attempted Genocide runs, a few attempted Passive runs, Frisk finally does the good ending correctly. Sans is pretty friendly through the whole thing as he doesn't fully grasp that Frisk can reset to the starting point whenever they want. Flowey only did week or month loops. Frisk does years. He can't remember exact things like he could in Flowey's days. He can only remember ideas and some people. He writes a lot of things down after that. Important information. Dangerous people and things like that.
He's happy and everything's fine until he wakes up standing on his porch in Snowdin one day. Frisk is doing a Genocide run and that's when Sans learns that there's nothing he can do. So he gets into a routine. Figures out how each possible ending goes. Sticks to a script. Gets a lot more aggressive and starts to lack empathy with each passing run.
Until he meets you on an off chance in a good run. It's random locations. Never the same. But something about you always draws him. Like you're something that can make him happy again. He's not excited about it though. It won't last. Frisk will just take it from him one day. Yet he still runs into you every good run somehow. He does get excited for good runs after a time just because he wants to see you.
And that's essentially the story I wanted to tell. The messy slapped down quick version anyhow. It's confusing sorry, but ahhhhhhhhh.
FUN FACTS (Aka I ramble about sh*t that is not actually fun)
Unorganized because that's my life.
The monsters that become J-1, J-2, J-3, and J-4 I'm aware I said this up top just hush do not have names or personalities. They have designs made up, but they weren't ever properly introduced literally at any point. GG me. Honestly at this point they're just aggressive blobs anyhow so….
Hi
So all the Beasttale's I saw in the tag have the Gaster Blaster heads. An now I know none of you care, but I'm telling you anyways on why I personally didn't do it. Keep in mind my Beasttale was created a few months after Undertale came out. At the time, there were no Gaster Blaster head AUs or if there were, they weren't popular yet or I didn't know about them. Bomberboy was originally a bara Sans. Which is why he was never beasty looking outside of the claws, teeth, and tail. Plus this bit*h couldn't draw animal heads at the time. For me now it seems like a cop out. Slap an animal head on and bam. It's a beast. That's no fun. For me it seems lazy but I understand why with beast in the name. I personally like the idea of beast being a more metaphorical thing.
Bombers design came about in an art trade. I didn't like the idea of just scaling Sans up to make a bara version, so I made my own. Used the design until I figured out his name and an arbitrary AU name to slap on him. At the time Beasttale was nothing more than a place to stick my own bara Sans. People started asking about him and the others, and so it expanded from there :’)
Bomberboy got his name from an unused AU idea I had about planes. Don't talk about it. He got his name from a bomber jacket...anyways I dropped the AU in favor of drawing large monsters. Bara Sans was popular at the time which is how I started.
I have literally no memory of why he was ever drawn with scars. I think to make him more intense maybe? Idk??? Either way they spawned the story I was aiming for but never got to.
The g*re/hard v*re aspect was never originally intended. I posted art saying something like ‘you have a 50/50 chance of dying when f*cking him’. I honestly don't remember why I added that comment, but either way everyone immediately hit me with that ‘OwO what's this?’ and it went downhill from there.
I never meant for Bomber to be as violent as he got. Again it kinda went downhill really f*cking fast. It'd be something that if I made him right now, I'd have scaled back on. I just wanted him to be an a*shole and he shot past that marker 😂 I did however make sure he was never r*pey, or physically abusive. He was a horny boy, but never super forceful. He was however mentally manipulative as at the time I had a lot going on. He's gross and he was designed that way.
There was a Glitchboy, who would be a BeastBoy of Error. His design was finished, and I fully intended on introducing him, but by the time I was going to, I found I didn't really care for the original, which made it hard to love my version. I think I was just going to do it to show how the power works in my Beast AUs. Which is why I was never attached. First to last created is how it works. First being strongest, last being weakest. Cherryboy (Beastfell), Bomberboy (Beasttale), Hotboi (Beastlust), Canine (Beastswap) and Loverboy (Horrorbeast) ((Canine and Lover were made too close together for me or Sil to remember who came first, so they are tied for power)), and finally Towelboy (Dancebeast).
I liked Alphys, and the idea of her and Sans being friends. Which is why she is featured heavily in the ideas for the AU, and why I've drawn the two together so often
Bombers distaste for other AUs comes from me. Some AUs I take a liking to, but after seeing some content I don’t really agree with coming out of most AUs, I kinda dipped on them. Which is why he can tolerate Beast versions, but not their normal OG counterparts.
I had started a comic for the origins of Bomber and Alphys, but if you’ve been here a while, you know I’m f*cking lazy when it comes to my art >:'D
At some point there were like, ancient versions of the main crew. They were Gasters friends and upon their death he turned them into Alphys, Sans, Papyrus, and Undyne. The idea was scrapped and the designs were reused for Beastswapfell.
Speaking of which. Beastswapfell was always intended to be an unstable weird AU. The regular fellswap or swapfell never appealed to me. Plus cross too many AUs and things get unfocused.
Frisk always in any Beast AU has red eyes and Chara has brown. Why? The one time we see Chara up close, they have brown eyes. When Frisk opens their eyes in the bad version of the good end, they have red eyes. I know it's to show them being evil or whatever. But it's more fun to imagine them always having red eyes
It annoys me to no end that Sans got the cool beast thing going but no one else did. But, no one came to me for a beasty Alphys or Toriel did they. We're all here for the chunky skeleton. It's actually why I had to create a reason for Sans being how he is. He's the only one like himself. Which wasn't the original plan, but by the time the heat form rolled around, I had so many different designs for so many different characters that I wasn't about to do that to myself…
A lot of stuff was created while listening to Lauren Bousfield and Andrew Jackson Jihad (AJJ for the newer fans). So like. Yeah.
Sans and Papyrus would have been animal skeletons as kids. Sans a cat and Papyrus a badger. Magic just kinda, gave some skeletons life. This plotline was scrapped forever ago. I don't remember why.
Bomber doesn't drink ketchup. He did it to f*ck with Frisk. Across multiple timelines because he's f*cking bored.
I made it canon at one point that Bomber can snap and will kill everyone before Frisk does if certain requirements are met. His fight is unbeatable then. He's LOVE 20. Frisk is 0. Fight doesn't go well.
The boys heat forms all vary because drawing 6 giant pointy skeletons is f*cking boring. Go big or go home.
Canine when in heat would have sounded like  OG King Ghidorah. Love me some f*cking BIDIDIDIDI
When Sans or Papyrus die, the Gaster Blaster eye that correlates to them, will have an X in it. When looking directly at the Blasters, Gasters eye is in the center, Sans on the left, and Papyrus on the right. Gaster's eye has a pointy oval shape with a dot in the center at all times.
Monsters in this AU are incredibly lightweight. Sans would weigh all of 50 pounds. Monsters are made of magic, which has little weight. They have to eat physical things to gain some mass. Before the underground the monsters ate humans as a retaliation and because humans contained magic nutrition and physical nutrition. Older monsters still have cravings, but almost all current Monsters don't have any interest in humans for food. Sans is just ravenous and always hungry. He won't go out of his way to eat a human, but if the opportunity presents itself well...yeah.
Papyrus can and will use the Gaster Blasters if Frisk does at least three genocide runs in a row. He doesn't know why, but he just knows he has to stop them before they hit him. So he lasers their a*s the second they enter his fight. Beasttale has unfair moves in the fights 😂
The world can glitch and you are able to fall down at the same time as Frisk. Because of plot, you override Frisk and their abilities. Which forces them to tag along you and your choices. Bomber is always hurt seeing you coming out of the ruins with dust on your pants. You don't encounter him until you're at the castle if you hurt Monsters on your way. No dust means he basically glued himself to your side. Partly to keep an eye on you, partly to get close to you.
Bomber and Frisk have a rocky relationship. He knows they've done bad sh*t, but he can never remember what. This distrust can be overridden with a few good runs in a row. He forgets. Or acts like he does. He's got his journal. Says on one page that Frisk aggressively ran in circles until Monsters checked to see if they were okay. Only to be attacked by Frisk.
The picture in that you can find in the game doesn't have whatever the speculation was. I think people thought it was the good end picture that Sans has. For Beasttale it's the four monsters that now reside in Sans, posing with Gaster. They're happy. Don't know what they're about to go through. There's an old picture on my blog somewhere that looks like this, but the picture isn't canon anymore as it has Sans and Papyrus. It follows a different plot point that was scrapped shortly after the art was made.
Less of a fun fact and more of a flex. I never got any hate or flak for my choices with my AUs. Which I mean, is super surprising. Seriously. Not once was I sent a hateful message in my whole time of having this blog. I feel like that says something about my followers then and now. So thank you for suffering through my AU with me 💕 I'm sure after reading this whole thing you'll feel like you wasted your time and you're welcome. I'm glad I can still waste people's time 😂
You know who's cute? The girl I forced to beta read this 👀

Make Your Mark, 10/10
Series: Undertale, Horrortale Relationship(s): HT!Papyrus/Reader Chapter Warnings: mentions of death, implications of past murder/cannibalism, nothing explicit; a panic attack
AO3 Link
In a world where soulmates exist, monsters and humans have one thing in common: the first time two soulmates touch, a mark randomly appears somewhere–anywhere– on their bodies to represent their match.
It still doesn’t make relationships easier…but maybe it does make them a little more interesting!
Papyrus could easily say that it was the best date he’d ever had in his life… and not only because he could count the number of dates he’d been on with one hand.
You, his wonderful datemate, had been taking it upon yourself to show him all of the cool, fun things a cool, fun couple like yourselves could get up to here on the surface and he really had to hand it to you: the waterpark was one of your most fantastic ideas yet!
He was…admittedly too big for a lot of the attractions—most of the high-velocity slides, as thrilling as they looked, just weren’t a safe fit for him, designed for humans roughly half his height—but Papyrus was delighted to find that there were plenty of things he could enjoy without risk of maiming himself.
(He’d made a point of doing a few mental calculations before waiting in line for anything dodgy-looking, anyway, just to be sure. Not for the first time, he thanked the stars that he was such an avid reader, and that Sans kept approximately ten billion physics textbooks around the house at any given moment for him to have read and reread a hundred times when he was bored!)
(…he was even willing to thank Sans for being so responsive by text whenever he wanted to be extra sure his math was right. The handful of thumbs-up emojis he’d gotten back with his waterproof phone before potentially risking life and limb had been really reassuring!)
But!
He was having a great time!
The hot sun in the beautiful blue sky made every splash of cool, chlorinated water on his bones feel divine, rivaled only by your beaming presence beside him while he enjoyed it.
His favorite thing so far was definitely the wave-pool, watching you bob in the rippling water like the cutest buoy that ever was.
He’d managed to distract you twice before you caught on that he was doing it on purpose, because you were adorable when you caught a wave right to the face and had to sputter and shake it off, all embarrassed and disoriented.
You only got cuter when you tried to ‘yell’ at him for it and the urge to scoop you up and pinch your squishy human cheek was almost too powerful to resist!
It was good! It was fun! Papyrus was having a wonderful date with you!
Tense is important to note here.
Was, because it seems pretty clear to Papyrus that what he’s doing now is completely and utterly ruining everything.
Funny how one dying child could do that.
Papyrus isn’t sure on the details, it all happened very fast—a woman yelling, a gathering crowd, a lifeguard pulling a very small body out of the water—and he’d been three steps forward, ready to declare himself as a nurse, someone who could help…
And then there was a flicker of static in the air, the energy of a small soul winking out of existence.
And Papyrus just…froze.
He doesn’t know why.
He doesn’t, it’s stupid, he is no stranger to death, he’s seen it dozens of times, he sees it every day at work!
But it wasn’t supposed to be here…
All he knows is that it felt like everything in him was locking up at once and it took everything he had to mutter, “Excuse Me,” to you before running off to the nearest changing room.
To hide, like a coward.
He’s so mad at himself and he feels so helpless, slumped against a wall of lockers trying to make his own panicking body cooperate; trying to get his legs back under him, trying to breathe normally, trying to Stop. Fucking. Shaking.
But he can’t.
Even with sockets squeezed painfully shut, he sees that boy, his grief-stricken mother holding him…and he thinks of Sans.
Sans, looking devastated and broken, with blood on his hands and a disturbingly limp human in his arms, begging his brother to help him.
The body, just the first in a line of way too many, laid out on his kitchen counter, dead empty meat that he had to… because everyone was hungry, everyone was starving, and it was already done, Sans had already… so he had to do this part, for everyone, but stars above, the blood, the smell, the taste…!
It always comes back like this, crystal-clear, and Papyrus feels nausea roiling through the stomach he doesn’t even have.
He’s been out of his braces for years—why are his teeth hurting so bad now…?
He clamps his hands over his mouth and hunches down into himself, wishing his own rattling would drown out everything else in his skull.
“…Papyrus…?”
And he freezes again.
No. No, Please, No, Not…
But he can’t catch a break because there you are, standing right in front of him, so sweetly concerned and the shame strikes like a lightning bolt, sizzling all the way down to his soul.
“No,” he gasps aloud, “I…You’re Not Supposed To…”
Be here, see him like this, know that he’s like this.
You’re supposed to see his good side: The Great Papyrus, cheerful and resilient and strong, recovered from the trauma of the Underground in every way!
You’re supposed to admire him, you’re supposed to think he’s cool and tough and never, ever see this weak and stupid thing he is sometimes when it all comes back…
The sound he makes is downright pathetic, dripping with despair, and he folds into himself even more, wishing he could disappear.
You…seem to have other plans.
Papyrus jumps when you throw your arms around his shoulders and squeeze him in the tightest hug you’ve ever given him—the first hug you’ve ever given him.
“Hey,” you say, and your voice is so soft and so kind when you say it that he doesn’t even think of trying to pull away. “It’s okay, you’re… I’m here, it’s…it’s okay.”
The words, so earnestly spoken, make Papyrus sob, just once…which is stupid, because…because he’s not even crying.
…Is he?
Suddenly, he’s not sure of anything anymore except what you said: you’re here and it’s okay, it’s okay, it’s okay…
He breaks.
Without a second thought, he picks you up, hugging you tightly against his body while he shakes and falls apart and even as it’s worse, somehow it’s…better than it was before.
You’re so warm and soft and slightly damp, like a soggy teddy-bear that can pet him and whisper soothing words and kiss the top of his skull, and Papyrus doesn’t think he ever wants to put you down again.
Especially when, ever so slowly, his body starts to cancel all the blaring Panic Mode alarms and he’s left weakly clinging to you with his face safely hidden in your neck.
It’s…it’s a real, actual struggle to put you down.
He’s pretty sure his cheekbones are glowing and he can’t quite make himself meet your eye.
“That… I’m Sorry You Had To See That,” he mumbles reluctantly. “That Was…Very Embarrassing.”
You stare up at him with hands on your hips and you cluck your tongue.
“No, it wasn’t,” you say, and the certainty in your tone is such that he almost believes you. “That was…a messed up thing that happened out there. I’d be more worried if you weren’t upset at all.”
Oh, Stars, The Child…
Papyrus frowns before he speaks, scared to hear the answer but also needing to know…
“The Boy,” he asks, “Was… Did He…?”
Your smile is the most reassuring thing he’s ever seen.
“He’s fine,” you promise, “the lifeguard did CPR and he coughed up half the pool. Guess he wasn’t a strong swimmer and took off his water-wings when mom wasn’t looking. He got an earful over that, but they left for the hospital just to make sure he was okay.”
Oh, Humans.
Papyrus would never cease to be amazed by their ability to survive the deadliest of things, even coming back from the dead if somebody fixed the problem quickly enough.
Humans were so strong, so incredible…
Papyrus looks at you and feels his expression soften.
So Amazing…
He opens his mouth, ready to deliver the most flattering, touching, affection-filled compliment he’s ever uttered…
Only for you to gasp and mutter a surprised expletive.
When Papyrus follows your gaze and looks down at himself, he sees the source of your impolite language and…may even repeat it himself.
There just aren’t polite words to properly encapsulate the feeling of shock at seeing your soulmark for the first time.
Even if you have no earthly idea what it is.
All Papyrus can tell, looking down at himself, is that it’s bright and it’s everywhere, yellow lines squiggling across his entire thorax and even tagging his humeri with a stray lash here and there.
“…Well,” he says at length. “That Certainly Happened.”
Papyrus has always had a talent for understatement.
But there are more important matters at stake here than that.
“I Hate To Ask, But You Seem To Have The Better Vantage Point,” he admits, “So… What… Is It? I Can’t Quite Make It Out From This Angle.”
You take a few moments to process the question.
Papyrus is happy to wait while you sort it all out—you can’t spell ‘patience’ without…at least two letters from his name!
“It’s…it’s a…” you sound so stunned to be saying it, like you can’t believe your own words, but eventually you manage, “it’s a sun…”
Papyrus isn’t surprised at all.
It’s perfect.
Unable to restrain his grin, he finally gets to his feet, his soul bubbling with excitement at this wonderful revelation.
It more than makes up for that bit of unpleasantness that he’s on a date with his soulmate, one date of surely many, and he’s sure he can salvage the rest of it!
But when he moves toward the exit of the changing room, you don’t follow.
Papyrus says your name, but it’s clear he doesn’t have your attention—not with the way you’re frantically examining your arms and legs and every bit of exposed skin you can see.
You’re looking for a mark to answer the one you’d left on him…and not having much luck, by the look of things.
“Come on,” you grumble to yourself, managing to sound both frustrated and distressed, “where is it?!”
Papyrus comes back over to you.
“Don’t Worry About That,” he gently chides you. “It’s Not Important.”
Your head whips up, your eyes comically wide. “What do you mean, it’s not important?! It’s your soulmark!”
Papyrus laughs. “Well, Yes, In Theory, But I May Not Have Given You One.”
You just gape at him that time, utterly bewildered by his casual tone.
“It’s Perfectly Okay If I Didn’t,” he continues, placing a reassuring hand on your shoulder now that he can; now that the touch-barrier between you has already been broken. “Just Because You’re My Soulmate Doesn’t Mean I Have To Be Yours—I’m Not Going To Break Up With You, Or Enjoy This Date Any Less, You Know!”
“…but it’s! Probably here somewhere!” you insist, starting to tug at your swimsuit, and Papyrus stills your hand.
“Maybe It Is!” he agrees. “But You Don’t Have To Get Naked Right Now Just To Look For It! I’m Sure There Are Much Better Places To See Your Soulmark For The First Time Than In A Filthy, Bateria-Ridden Public Changing Room, Don’t You Think?”
You pause, looking around like you were remembering where you both were.
And then you start to laugh.
“There, Now!” Papyrus grins triumphantly, “I Knew You’d See Reason! Now, Why Don’t We Go Try Out That Slothful River Of Yours In The Meantime?”
That makes you perk up a little. You had been so excited about that attraction and so (not so secretly) disappointed when Papyrus hadn’t really wanted to go.
“Really?” you wonder. “You want to, now?”
Papyrus shrugs. “I Suppose I Can Grin And Bear It, For You! Especially If We Can Share A Tube…”
He says this with the emphasis normally reserved for very saucy activities indeed, being sure to waggle his browbones at you ridiculously enough to make you laugh again.
“Alright,” you agree, revitalized, “alright, yeah, let’s go!”
Your mark is perfect: you truly are his sunshine.
…and as you bounce off just a few steps ahead of him, back out into the light of day, Papyrus sees what he is to you, painted across your back in a colorful tableau that nearly makes his jaw drop off.
He thanks his lucky stars that he’s composed and in control of himself again by the time he sees it.
It means that he’s able to play it cool until he can snap the ideal selfie for you about halfway through the lazy river, while you happily doze against his chest.
The hardy desert garden between your shoulder blades—a cluster of blooming cacti and colorful, concentric succulents bursting forth onto your skin—looks fantastic under actual sunlight, but even more incredible beside the daisy-yellow sun rays you’d seared into his bones.
Papyrus is willing to admit to…a small bit of bias.
But only a little.

The beginnings of a story I started to write a long time ago (probably sometime 2015) that I never got that far into but decided to share today as it’s Sean’s 30th birthday...
"Uh... This is fun," muttered Sean, it was a history lesson. His class had been learning all about Greece's philosophers and to be honest he was bored, he didn't care. He would rather be at home just playing Pokémon on his gameboy, his first console. Looking down at his right arm, he saw his fourteen year old hands, they were rough and his finger nails were dirty from playing outside in the woods by his house. Then he gazed at his sleeve, it was ruffled at the end and was green, the colour of Ireland, his home land.
Then the bell rang and Sean was smacked back to reality, finally the lesson had ended, it was breaktime! He rushed outside into the playground to play football with a few of his secondary school 'friends'.
Billy, Steve, Suzy and Betty were waiting and wanted to play while some of his other classmates mingled, among them, Larry, Bobby, Mike, Mary and Harry.
There were two teams but they were unfair. It was Billy Betty and Suzy vs. Sean and Steve and Sean was in goal. The game started well, Betty in her baggy school uniform had the ball first and was quite slow because of her weight but then Billy, the smaller of the group took the ball from her then turned to attack Sean and Steve. Steve whizzed past Sean, he was always been the best at this game, it was like he had a segway in defence. Suzy was minding her own business, her mind floating off into the air when she was running to attack with Billy. She, not concentrating and looking at Billy through her glasses, slammed into Sean whilst he was in the air and they banged heads and Sean got a gash above his left eye. Then Billy scored.
"Billy! I was on the floor you can't score a goal when I'm down!" complained Sean he was tearing up and his left eye stung like hell.
"Oh, ha sorry. Not! I bet you were glad to bump into Suzy anyway," Billy teased.
"Shut your mouth Billy or I'll close it for you!" shouted Sean through the pain.
"Is that a threat?" asked Billy, " how sweet, and while you're still on the floor."
"Billy just be quiet!" commanded Sean.
"No!" then Billy ran on ashamed but not regretting what he did, a smirk on his face.
"Screw...You....Billy!!"screamed Sean whilst his eye bled.
This grabbed the attention of Steve and Betty who were watching the spectacle while Suzy had gone to tell the teacher.
"Are you okay Buddy?" asked Steve, Sean's video gaming friend.
"Of course I'm... ," said Sean but he couldn't hide the pain.
"Oh My God! Sean. Oh no, oh no!" Betty panicked.
Sean had to say something to shut her up. "Calm your tits Betty. I'll be alright but Billy won't."
Sean was between emotions.
* * *
It had been two and a half weeks and Sean's eye had become infected. He had been acting normally, trying not to hit Billy, playing video games with Steve, playing at break and climbing and swinging from his favourite tree outside his house but today things would change.
He arrived at school, his normal cheerful self but with his mum. "Goodbye Jack," she called. Sean knew why he was called Jack because of Sean being like Irish John, "and remember honey the doctor said, don't touch your eye even if you think it looks cool and 'badass'."
"Goodbye," Sean cried when he saw Billy sniggering in the corner.
"Hey, look it's jacksepticeye!" Billy loudly mocked, "How are you Jacky?"
Sean bit his lip. Hopefully ma didn't hear, he thought, and hopefully she won't hear this. Sean deeply exhaled.
"Billy. You will get a beating you little ginger tw-"
Sean's mum ran to the scene, she had heard and Billy ran to class. "Sean William McLaughlin come here now!"
"But... Ma I was being a Boss," She looked directly at him. "Yes Ma," he unwillingly obeyed.
"Straight home with you!"
When they arrived back Sean ran away to hang in the forest. He hastily made his way to his favourite place but he tripped.
"Ouch!" He had tripped on a piece of jutting metal. He looked down at the design. It looked alien. He, being an adventurous young boy, dug out the top part of this. He saw what looked to be a pod. Sean with his +1 biceps pulled it out from the ground. It was so easy, it was like it had been buried and lightly covered over.
He gazed at the 90 centimetre tall pod. It was a dark metal oval with light gray fins and highlights, there was a deep ocean green button at its base. Sean felt the urge to push it, like he knew what to do and he had to do it. A pod door opened up to reveal the capsule inside. Sean was amazed at all the flashing lights, levers and buttons of all varying sizes and colours. He saw the leather backing of the pod, it was about the size to fit a baby.
Sean ran back to tell his mum about it.
"Ma...Ma, 's awesome!"
"Honey what's awesome?"
"I found an alien pod with all these amazing lights and controls, it could have been an escape pod or something! Come I'll show you!" Sean was so excited he could barely speak.
"No," his mother said," I have something to tell you, you might want to sit down. We're moving soon in two weeks exactly in fact to live closer to grandma in a huge forest, you'll have all the trees in the world to play in but you won't see your friends again."
"What? Ma you didn't tell me!" This had put a downer on things and Sean felt betrayed. "But..."
"I'm sorry honey but things have already been arranged. You can forget about that pod as well, you're not allowed in the forest again with that eye of yours."
But Sean would never forget, never tell anyone about it again. He would always remember, the pod and its existence. He even came up with some theories why his mother wouldn't acknowledge it existed and occasionally in the future he would joke about them like in his childhood:
That he was a Boss of the Bossatronios, an alien race that once ruled the Planet Bossatron.
He thought that he had come in that pod. That his parents and siblings took him in as Sean, a normal Irish lad.
 He wasn't far off.
   Chapter 1: The Message
"Well I'm going to leave this episode here! If you liked it, punch that like button in the face, LIKE A BOSS! Aaand, high fives all around!" Sean said with energy as he high fived his YouTube audience. "But thank you guys so much for watching and I'll see all of you... IN THE NEXT VIDEOOO!" He shouted as loud and almost as high as his voice could go, it had been a good episode of Reading Your Comments and was a long time in the making, episode one hundred.
Sean ended the recording at precisely 9:42, took off his headphones and stood up in his home. His green brown and slightly grey (never to be talked about) hair was ruffled as he stood. His manly short beard was the way it always was, just an extended stubble leading around his mouth. It was time for a snack.
When he got back he decided to open up a game a fan of his had said she had made when he had attended the recent PAX. It was a convention where he had his own panel and met so many of his fans. It all meant so much to Sean but he wondered whether the USB contained a virus.
He download the game called. S.E.A.N and a loading screen appeared once he ran it. There was no menu, just a pixelated green field, Sean wondered what the game could really be about. He used his mouse to look around at the game's surroundings. Then a message popped up.
Hello S.E.A.N, or maybe Sean or Jack. You probably remember meeting me don't you, a human meeting a human. Well neither of us were human. Press enter to continue...
Then the game crashed and his computer buzzed."What the hell?" asked Sean, "This shouldn't happen!"
A new window appeared. Sean sat back down trying to get his computer to respond. But it didn't. He couldn't close the window or minimize it. All that there was was a blank screen and he stared at it through beautiful blue eyes.
Then the screen of his computer went to a blue screen. Sean didn't know what to think. Should he press enter or not? Was his name just an acronym? He remembered that pod in the forest.
He hadn't seen it ever again. He had never spoken seriously of it since when he was a child.
He remembered the people from his secondary school. He had even named some of the characters after them in games that he had played.
He had become a big success since his teenage years. He had played many great games on his channel named jacksepticeye. He had become a popular YouTuber, 15 million strong and always growing.
You know what? thought Sean.
YOLO BITCHES!!!
He clicked enter and his world was turned upside down.
* * *
The first thing he saw was a blinding flash of sea foam green. His eyes squinted into his new surroundings. He felt different, inside and out. He wasn't quite himself anymore, he was just a character in a video game. But this video game felt and looked as real as life.
Sean touched his nose, it felt like plasticene. He checked for his hat, but all he touched was his green hair. He was still Sean but also not him. His mind, his looks belonged to his human body but his body felt looser. And through his pixel eyeballs was a new world.
Chapter 2: The Party
He was in a stone hall. He recognised the walls, the stairs, the floors, the arches and the pedestal where a body lay: he was in his favourite game, Shadow of the Colossus. He stepped towards the body, like Wander in the game. But from under the cloths came a skeleton.
"Hello, human! I m the great Papyrus! And you shall place me in the royal guard!"
This skeleton Jack knew from Undertale in his red, white and gold outfit and spoke in jack's voice for him. He was basically the best and deserved more recognition. Sean remembered having to kill him in the genocide run and he remembered their date. It all filled him with determination.
"I'm taking you to Undyne!" said Papyrus and suddenly an orange portal appeared which Jack knew was from the game Portal and he was whisked away. Papyrus didn't mind so much, he was thinking about spaghetti.
They arrived through the portal. Jack was stuck between two green blocks and in front of him were six people, an elf, a little girl, a baby boy, two men and a chubby woman, standing still on floating green platforms. Jack recognised these characters from Happy Wheels. He didn't recognise the level when in fact it was the first level he played that someone had made for him in the game.
"Wowie! I'm on a horse! There is a pile of swords in front of me!"
Jack turned his head and behind him surely enough was a pile of swords. This was a sword throw level. Papyrus was sure enough sitting on a horse, Agro, the black horse from Shadow of the Colossus. The question was- through his own eyes could Jack kill the people?
That question didn't need to be answered as from out of Sean's vision came a kid in an orange top, just like Billy's from school. He had remembered the kid when naming the character for Happy Wheels as they wore the same clothes and were both ginger and "Screw you Billy" became a known saying.
Billy leaped onto Papyrus, Agro spooked and fell forward. Jack pulled the swords away and they all fell on him, as they fell through another portal: this one was blue.
They were all falling through the clouds. Sean, Papyrus, Agro and Billy together. Suddenly, a god like figure appeared in the clouds. She was just a head and shoulders appearing to them as they fell. This figure had brown hair and greenish hazel eyes."Evie!" said Sean.
Immediately, CleverBot Evie that Jack had done many videos on, turned into a hologram and came up on Sean's face like Cortana from Halo. He remembered when she guessed his name.
"Oh God!" he said to both that video and the fact that she was on his HUD, ready to be talked to.
One last portal appeared, orange and they all ended up in a blank void. There was a lamppost in the centre. Sean remembered The Beginner's Guide. Suddenly, before he could react, Jack's character from Skate 3, Betty, came through the portal on Pink Lighting, a trike from Turbo Dismount.
Sean stood up. He couldn't help thinking, "OOOOOWWWWW PINK LIGHTING!" Papyrus and Billy sat on Agro.
"Now I have three humans in my custody!" exclaimed the skeleton.
"Help me! Where am I? There's a skeleton!" moaned Billy in his high pitched bitch voice. Jack didn't care, he was enjoying this.
Agro neighed, majestic and not bothered by the stupid people on him.
Betty stood up in her black t-shirt and jeans. "This isn't my skateboard!" she said as she jumped off Pink Lighting and towards Jack.
"Hi, Betty," began Sean.
"How do you know my name? Who are you? Where am I? Did you bring me here?" She was full of questions!
"Um... well." Sean didn't know what to say. He didn't want to say that she was from a game he had played and this was another game made for him.
"Hi, I'm Sean. I know your name from er... well, I've heard of your great skating. We have been sent here, I don't know where, to together take down a common enemy, the Yllib, threatening our lives. And... no I didn't bring you here."
Betty stepped closer, looking beyond Sean at a skeleton and a little kid, on top of a horse. "So, obviously I'm the leader of whatever you guys are."
"Um... ok. This is Billy, Papyrus and Agro," explained jacksepticeye, pointing at the three characters bickering. Papyrus grabbed Billy and took them both off the horse, walking towards them.
"Have you told them what we're here for?" Betty asked.
"No."
"Well maybe you could be my second in command, tell them the boring stuff and get them together."
Papyrus and Billy arrived next to videogame Sean. "You two humans come here. You are now my prisoners. This child knows nothing. Tell me how we get out of here, one with green hair,  this is not the underground." And with his skeletal fingers Papyrus pointed at Sean.
"Help me you two. Uhhhng I want my daddy!"
"Shut up Billy!"shouted Sean and Billy went quiet. "Well, we are here to take down a common enemy, the Yllib who are threatening Snowdin, Skate Parks and Hap- BMX tracks. We have been sent here to find a way to stop them."
"But tell them how we get out, second in command," said Betty.
"How do we get out?" Sean muttered to Evie. He had been feeling quite cool debriefing people.
"By understanding everything is connected," Evie droned out in Jack's mind. Papyrus was getting impatient and was tapping his foot whilst Betty looked concerned. Billy was just a little bitch.
"No, we need a portal."
"Yes, you need a point," said Evie. Oh my god, how dumb can a CleverBot get? thought Sean, I need a portal!
Sure enough a portal opened far away in the distance behind Agro who was now smelling Pink Lighting. "Through that portal over there."
"Through that human tamed beast over there? Is that a portal?" Papyrus questioned.
"No not Agro! That blue portal in the distance. But we will need transportation. Papyrus, your greatness, and you, Commander Betty, will ride with me on Agro the horse. Billy you can have Pink Lighting and do try to keep up you little bitch," finished Jack.
The team galloped off towards the portal in the black void. And behind them Billy pedalled with his small legs. He hated Sean. To him, he was a big bitch. And this trike was Billy's least favourite shade of pink.
* * *
Sean, Betty, Papyrus and Agro arrived at the portal, looking amazing atop their steed. Jack wanted to leave Billy behind but Pink Lightning was too precious and Billy was put in the game for a reason. As they waited time ticked on...
TWO GAME HOURS LATER
"Go Billy, go, go, go!" screamed Sean at Billy, trying to motivate him. He was five metres away from arriving next to them.
"Next time, that skeleton can have this," panted Billy.
"Fine," agreed Betty.
"I agree, it is fair that I, the great Papyrus, get the best vehicle!"
"Right, everyone let's go!" said Betty. "Can you take the horse?" She beckoned at Sean and he followed, just having fun, playing the game.
They stepped towards the portal, Billy following Betty, Papyrus being a 'cool dude' on Pink Lightning and Sean guiding Agro's nose at the back. "Now the real game begins," said Evie in Jack's mind. She winked.
* * *
They all arrived on a realistic looking game graphic platform. It looked like it was from the Borderlands games and was all grey metal. Jack wished for Loader Bot to come out and say "Hi." in his robotic voice and do his thumb up pose. But nobody came...
"Where are we now, human?" asked Papyrus to Betty, getting off Pink Lightning.
"Sean!" she cried as him and Agro entered the conversation, "explain where we are!"
"Um..." Jack didn't know what to say. It didn't help that Billy was calling for his dad behind Betty and Papyrus. "I don't kno-"
Sean was cut short as suddenly something appeared, a  big portal. From the huge purple rift in space came...
...that’s as far as younger me got, thanks for reading if you made it down here!

S/o with birthmark... (Everyone I’ve met with a birthmark is too freaking kind tbh, so obviously gonna have a kindness soul, haha)
Sans (Undertale Sans)- Honestly, his s/o having a birthmark isn’t going to deter him at all, he’s still going to treat them as if they were any other person. If anyone even stares at them for being different, he will more then likely send a glare towards them. No one treats his s/o differently.
Papyrus (Undertale Papyrus)- His s/o is gorgeous with a birthmark! It makes them unique, and he loves how kind they are, and how they always encourage him, as well as his brother! It’s so sweet, and not only that, his s/o gives thoughtful gifts for him and Sans whenever. He always takes time to tell them that they are stunning, that they are beautiful, and that they are perfect, even if it flusters them. Like sure, it sucks that his s/o needs to wear lots of sun screen on their birthmark if they go outside when it’s really sunny, but they love spending time with him, just like he does with them!
Blue (Underswap Sans)- He adores his s/o’s birthmark, they’re so unique with it and oH MY HEAVENS IT CAN CHANGE COLORS, W H A T ? ? ? He loves it even more now! His s/o’s birthmark turns purple when they’re cold/sad and depressed, and their birthmark turns bright red when they’re hot/have a fever/ angry, so it’s easy to tell what they’re feeling even if they are reserved!
Stretch (Underswap Papyrus)- He’s going to be casual about it, it’s intriguing to see that his s/o was different from other humans, but that’s one of the many things that he loves about them. Their difference had made them so kind and modest to others, always trying to make others happy and making sure that they’re not sad. His s/o is considerate, and he loves that about them.
Red (Underfell Sans)- His s/o wasn’t comfortable in their own skin, with even leaving the house without being possibly stared at by a complete stranger because of how they looked. It was a sad sight, that such a bright individual starts thinking so lowly of themselves for something out of their own control. Honestly, his s/o is stunning to him, they’d look beautiful whether they didn’t have a birthmark or if they did. They’d be the most beautiful thing even if there was something wrong with them. He wasn’t going to let his s/o feel down because of how they look, he’s going to make sure to stay close to them and tell them how much he loves them, and how stunning they look.
Boss (Underfell Papyrus)- He’s gonna kick someone’s ass if they say something bad about his s/o to them or in front of him. He’s going to annihilate them. They obviously don’t know perfect when it hit them, his s/o is kind, brave, perseverant, the list goes on and on, but his s/o is just perfect. And if others can’t see that, then they are blind. And they are probably going to have to go to the hospital for how hard he kicked their ass.
Mal (Fellswap Sans)- He’s not going to actually care if his s/o has a birthmark or not, if they did, that just means they’re strong mentally for being able to be prideful in being different, and not only that, the surgeries were the worst, he had actually seen his s/o get surgery, and he may or may not have nearly attacked the doctor when his s/o had actually begun crying from the intense pain. But, they were strong, and they tend to see the best in others around them, even if those people didn’t deserve it. He was going to protect his precious s/o.
Rus (Fellswap Papyrus)- He’s going to say a pick up line... Oh god, help his poor s/o with having to hear his pick up lines that are related to angels because of an old saying a birthmark is an angel’s farewell kiss. His poor s/o is going to be so flustered, but they’ll be happy that someone actually loves them for them.
Sinister (Horrortale Sans)- He actually didn’t notice his s/o’s birthmark at all, and even after a few years of dating them, he didn’t realize until his s/o spoke to him about their insecurities about it, in which he’s floored that he didn’t see it. Though I guess that’s what happens when you become close with someone for their personality and not their looks. He’s obviously going to reassure them, and joke that he’d take away the attention from their birthmark with how he looked.
Paprika (Horrortale Papyrus)- His s/o is adorable, even if they think they aren’t “attractive”, he thinks they’re stunning! He will always tell them that they are beautiful, and he will always know when they need their next surgery, which is frightening because he knows how much pain it causes them! He wishes to take all the pain away!
Ink- His s/o is a work of art, so of course he loves them! They’re so unique, they are so special, and he loves that about them! They are so kind, and patient with those around them, and despite being treated poorly sometimes, they still smile, they still treat others with how they wish to be treated, with kindness. You know, his s/o just gave him a new idea for an au...
Error- He will erase anyone that dares to speak lowly of his s/o. They never chose to be born with a birthmark, why ridicule them for it? They were so kind, they showed him affection and love despite him being anti-social and dangerous. They cared for him, and, well, with Error, you don’t mess with anyone he loves without dying.
Now, this is a note, I wrote this because, well, if you guys didn’t know, I’m a pretty different gal. I have a birthmark on my face that covers about 75% of my face, and ever since I was 2 months old, I’ve had to have surgeries. I’ve been ridiculed, bullied countless times because I was born different, I was constantly put down and I’ve recognized that yeah, I am different, that yeah, I don’t have many friends because of the way I look, but I wanted to do something nice. To do something for those that are different, and hopefully like me in this fandom. I have a Port-Wine Stain, and I love making sure that everyone is not treated as harshly as I have ever been. My friends and family can’t even see my birthmark anymore because they have gotten so used to it, and god, they would literally gut someone if they could if they were ever mean to me... Though I guess it’s a good thing that I look “terrifying” with this birthmark to even have people be mean to me anymore haha. Also, I have never taken a picture willingly since I was 8. Yeah. My looks are what I hate, but what can you do when you have something that makeup can’t even cover (tried covering it once with makeup but it was obvious under makeup... Hahaha, gonna be forever alone... ;-; )
And I apologize that I wrote this, it just felt right writing this, just in case there is someone like me in this fandom. I went a bit too into detail about myself, and I apologize for that as well, but I guess that’s something?
Even if you are born different, there is someone out there that will love you for who you are, now, I highly doubt these words for myself in particular, but for each and every one of you, I know you all will find someone who cherishes you and adores you. Because, well, I do! Your personalities are to die for, and I love them!
My boi Error here will kill someone for treating his s/o so badly, like, how dare they? They are gorgeous, and screw whoever was mean!

Your Own Private Idaho - Ch. 1
Title: Your Own Private Idaho Fandom: Undertale Pairings: Mettaton/Reader (Gender Neutral) Ratings: General (Explicit in coming chapters) Chapter: 1/? Summary: You're an inky monster getting ready to meet your idol. You've worked up the nerve to go to one of his book signings but you just might get more than you bargained for.
Continue Reading or Read on AO3!
Down below, hidden away in Mt. Ebbot, held the world of monsters in the Underground. Away from the hustle and bustle of human city life was instead a peaceful world that existed without all the chatter of day to day life. Things were calm. From Snowdin to the Waterfall, things were relaxed
But that wasn’t to say that it was boring! Oh no, far from it. While humans drove around in cars and other nonsense machines, monsters strolled through the Underground and even caught the ferry if they were in a hurry. The only chatter was among themselves with bubbling excitement. Especially when it was about the only TV star showing his face on all of their television screens.
Mettaton.
The name radiated with a glow throughout the Underground. Everyone was enraptured with his charm - his charisma! There weren’t any monsters that didn’t know of him. His shows were the talk of the Underground!
Especially to an excited, inky monster that was glued to your TV every night to watch the best show: Cooking with Mettaton. You were a terrible chef and had found Mettaton’s cooking show to be quite informative for your novice skill set. He was very direct with instructions that made it easy to follow and it helped that you found yourself blushing and smiling while he was talking. Somehow, to you, that made it easier to process all the instructions.
Sure, you could admit to having a crush. You wouldn’t deny it. But those feelings were to be hidden away when you embarked on decidedly the craziest feat to get you out of your comfort zone: a book signing. Mettaton was touring! And you could meet him! Maybe. If you weren’t so scared.
This was your chance to meet the Underground’s first and only actual star! It was almost too much for a little fan like you to handle.
So, you stood in the humongous line that wrapped around the building three times over, Mettaton’s cookbook that was not so pristine anymore (the pages were falling apart from how often you used it) in your hands. You nervously looked around at all the pretty monsters that were also lined up with brand new books ready to be signed. They looked eager to just see to Mettaton. You had heard rumors that the staff that he would be far too busy to actually talk to anyone. Stars didn’t have time to talk to normal folk, you thought.
But they had to be wrong! Mettaton seemed so kind, so loving… would this whole thing ruin this for you? You didn’t want to skip out, but now had second doubts even as you approached the front of the line. Eagerly, you tried to peek when the next person went down the lined corridor into the room covered by a thick curtain. If he had been put in the middle of the store, there would have been chaos. However, the suspense of not seeing or hearing anything made it all the worse on your nerves.
When they finally ushered you into the room, you froze in place, eyes widened at the sight of the boxy robot. You were starstruck.
And while it was true that Mettaton was a bit of a diva, to be honest, it didn’t mean he didn’t care for his fans. Oh, no. That was the furthest thing from the truth. Mettaton knew he was nothing without fans to cheer him on! He was making sure to take his sweet time with every monster that came to his signing, despite the earlier rumors.
So, when the dear little monster scurried into the room, looking for all the world like you were about to keel over on the spot, he let the lights on the front of his current body shine a bit brighter. Show you that he was happy. It was the closest thing in this rectangle he currently had to giving you a wide, friendly smile.
“Hello, darling,” he called out, voice as pleasant and unexpectedly melodic from such a rigid shape as always. “Please, don’t be shy. Let me see your beautiful self, dear viewer!”
One gloved hand reached out, and he beckoned you forward, voice all warmth and earnest pleasure to see someone.
“Let me see what you’ve brought to be si- oh, my!”
His optical sensors fell to the ragged book, but where you had thought he would be disgusted, the robot was instead delighted! You clearly enjoyed his writing and instructions enough to read the book to the point of making the book lovingly used.
“Oh, darling, I’m so glad to see that my writing has been so well loved!”
Your hands trembled as you stepped forward but all the fear melted away with the voice you loved. It was loud and robotic- (a human would have called it the stereotypical movie robot voice) - and to you it felt like music. Mettaton, in all his boxy glory, was everything you dreamt of.
So, you found the courage to speak up finally.
“Your cookbook really helped me! I-I use it pretty much every night when there’s a re-run on TV.” You smiled at him, your hands fidgeting nervously. “I was a really terrible cook before your show. All I ate was instant noodles!”
The pages were lined with notes and doodles that you had made while cooking. Things like ‘added more cheese - yummy!!!’ and ‘stove needed longer to cook this’ on various recipes. And the doodles? Well… There were lots of hearts. Lots of hearts.
While you extended it out for him to sign, you were careful not to let the loose papers slip of all the drawings you had made specifically of him with even more hearts around. It was as bad as a school yard crush. Though, most every monster had a crush on him so it wasn’t unusual.
“I just wanted to say thank you - your program… it made me feel like when, even if I get frustrated with myself about cooking, that it’s okay. Just like with lotsa stuff in life! Mettaton… you really give me hope.” Your ink started to drip as you blushed. “Even extroverted monsters need the reminder that it’s okay to mess up. A-and that… that there’s someone out there who’s always proud of us, even if he’s on the other side of the screen.”
You noticed that Mettaton’s handlers were starting to get impatient. Oh no, you had taken too long talking! Suddenly filled with embarrassment, your body sagged down as you looked at one of the nearby handlers start to approach, a stern look on his face. Oh, you were gonna get kicked out! You shouldn’t have wasted his time…
With a stern-sounding cough from the powerful monster, the handlers paused where they were and shuffled awkwardly away. Technically, yes, there was supposed to be a time limit. Had Mettaton been paying attention, he would’ve known that the time limit was only about thirty seconds long. And you had far exceeded it.
But.
Mettaton was the star here, and, if the star wanted to spend a little bit more time with a particular fan? Well, they wouldn’t be able to do anything to stop that. He was, after all, a very strong monster. And the handlers were more there just because it was something that a lot of human stars had. Truthfully, Mettaton would have been more than capable of handling himself.
His attention shifted back to you, taking the book gently out of your hands before holding both of them in his own. He had no eyes to gaze into but there was a distinct feeling that he was gazing at you still.
“Beautiful, you have no idea how happy it makes me to hear that. Truthfully, I wasn't exactly the best at cooking before I started putting one hundred and ten percent of my effort into it! I could… well, I could make snail sandwiches and that was about it.”
He chuckled, patting your hands kindly.
“I'm so glad I could help someone else find that special spark that you only get when you cook something delicious and get to feel proud of yourself. I'm proud of you, darling.”
The ink on your cheeks dripped onto the floor as you beamed from ear to ear. He was everything you had hoped he would be. Not the egotistical robot people said he was. No, his heart was true.
As he held your hands, you squeezed him gently. Sure, he was metal and you were a dense ink, but you wanted him to know how much you adored him.
“You truly are the star we need down here, Mettaton,” you softly spoke. “You give us all courage, even when some of us are worried about being trapped in the Underground.”
Tears welled up in your eyes even as you continued to smile at him. You were so happy.
"You distract us from everything scary. Just by being so positive.” You bashfully looked away as soon as you realized tears were spilling out from the corners of your eyes. “Heh… I’m sorry, I didn’t think I’d get all choked up. I just…” You squeezed his hands again. “I’m happy I got to meet you. You… you’re my hero, Mettaton.”
Wiping the tears from your eyes, Mettaton stood up and did what he hadn’t really done for any fan that entire day. He got out from around the table he sat behind, piled high with posters and CDs and books and-
And body pillows. Square body pillows, exactly in the shape of Mettaton.
He got up, wheeled himself around, and wrapped both of his noodly robot arms right around you. Mettaton pulled you close, softly rubbing your back and letting you cry against him. Letting you get it all out, so you would be beaming when he pulled back.
"You’re the one who makes it possible to do this, darling. I should be thanking you. I wouldn't be where I am without everyone supporting me.”
That truly floored you. Your heart was beating loudly in your chest as the robot hugged you tight. He was so huge compared to other monsters but being held by him was so… comforting.
After the last of the tears fell, you hugged him back. You hugged him and laughed. A happy, proud laugh.
"You’re really something else, Mettaton. You’re not just a star - you’re the whole universe!” Indeed, when you pulled back, you were smiling again. “Shining bright. Always there for us sappy monsters.”
You took one of Mettaton’s hands in both of yours and just let the feeling of touching him linger for a moment. It was as if you were gaining some of his energy just by being so close.
“I’m so glad for this moment. I… I never really thought I’d be here talking to you like this.”
Something was slipped into the palm of your hand as you held both of his cartoony, gloved hands. Something that felt entirely like a slip of paper.
Mettaton could have easily just written it into the book that he then pulled away to sign, insisting the entire time that he also send you back with a second copy just because of how well-loved the one you had brought was. He could have even just not given you his private phone number. It wasn’t something he wanted to be leaked, after all.
But Mettaton was impulsive.
And he knew that you wouldn’t hurt him, not after you spilled your heart out. Mettaton was, among several other things, one of the best judges of character in the whole of the Underground.
“Keep a hold of that, darling,” he ‘whispered’ as he gave you the book back. “And make sure to reach out soon.”
You looked at the paper and then to the two books now in your hands. There were stars in your eyes. Hell, you couldn’t stop smiling. Excitedly, you hugged Mettaton once more before you thanked him profusely.
“I-I promise! I…” You, too, were impulsive. Enough so to have the audacity to kiss the edge of his rectangular form. “Thank you. Thank you!”
The line moved once again with the final monsters trickling in. You left, waving goodbye to Mettaton. Then you went straight to the alleyway behind the hotel. Your body was buzzing with energy as you finally caught your breath and looked at the phone number again.
Oh, you should have given your number back to him! When would you know if he wasn’t too busy? He was always busy! He was a star! But he… he was so sweet.
Your heart still pounded as you took a seat on the ground, shakily saving the number into your phone so you wouldn’t forget to. You added a lot of heart emojis before you stared at the blank message screen.
No.
You’d wait. That was what you would do!
But you wanted to see him again soon. So soon…
And even at that moment, Mettaton was waiting to hear back from you. You had been so adorable. He had found himself so taken in with the smaller monster that he couldn’t wait for you to try to get in contact with him. Truthfully, the robot didn’t know what had happened, but at the gentle press of your inky lips against his hull, he had felt a spark.
One he hadn’t felt since seeing the prototype body that Alphys had made for him. Not since he had been a ghost, looking at the new form that was waiting for him to slip in like a glove that would fit perfectly.
So he waited for your call after the signing was done, eagerly staring at the phone screen inside his mechanical body. Wondering if you would do it that same day and wondering if he should have gotten your number as well. After all, he, well, he wanted to hear your voice again. That sweet little voice that made him feel important.
Like he had always wanted to be.
After a pep talk from Bratty and Catty about what you should do, you finally gathered up the courage as you were laying in your cozy little bed. You could hear the downstairs noise of the bar below - Grillby had been kind enough to let you stay in the small attic if you promised to catch any cats that came into the bar. The dogs hated them.
So, you lay in your bed and finally sent the message.
Hi, Mettaton! This is the ink monster from your signing earlier. I just wanted to thank you again for everything. I hope that you’re managing to get some rest after meeting all those people. You’re so awesome!!
You sent a little sticker emoji of a human holding up a sign with a heart, thinking it looked more casual than the silly message you wrote.
Nervously, you locked your phone and placed it on your stomach, your heart racing again.
You wished that he could feel what he did to you. Just the thought of him made your body tingle with anticipation. It was euphoric. He was so amazing…
There was a buzz of a reply almost immediately after you placed the device down. Mettaton was more than a double texter; if it was more dramatically appropriate to do so, he would text upwards of ten times in a row.
Thankfully, this wasn’t one of those times.
i was so happy to see you too, my dear! i do hope i didn't scare you too much by giving you my personal number ;P i would love to see you again one of these days! how would a get-together at my hotel sound? the restaurant there is wonderful!
Metal fingers didn’t need to tap a reply, as Mettaton was… well, being a robot as he was he was already part phone. He could do it just as himself. The emoji made him laugh, looking into the mirror and momentarily seeing his new body in his mind, beaming back at him and shaking with a laugh.
Maybe…
Maybe he’d debut it to you.
You didn’t scare me! I just didn’t know when would be the right time to reach out. You’re always so busy filming, I’m sure! I’m so glad you replied. I’m free most days, my job is very flexible. I’d love to finally eat at your restaurant! It’s always so booked far in advance that I’ve never gotten to go.
You squirmed in your bed, absolutely delighted. Your heart pounded louder.
I know it’ll be just as amazing as your hotel is! ...which has the comfiest beds ever, by the way!! I miss that place already! I heard you put in a new fountain - I’d love to see it when we’re there!
You couldn’t help but be excited as you typed your reply up quickly.
well, darling, i’d be more than happy to escort you myself! after all, you seemed so sweet when we spoke.
Oh, yeah, he was going to show you first. This sweet, shy monster would be the first to see his new body. Beaming internally, Mettaton added a few more sparkly hearts to his text before sending it off into the electronic cyberspace. He’d been waiting so long to finally get to show it off to someone and so the thought of someone who would absolutely be excited to see anything getting to see it first and praising him was…
It was a lot. He could barely contain himself.
I hope I can see you soon. I already miss you :(
You blushed. Was that too desperate? Maybe. But he was naturally flirty so maybe he would find it cute.
You paused.
I should go to sleep soon… It was a very long big line today! I hope to hear from you soon? Let me know when you wanna hang out!!
Then you took a quick snap under the glow of the fairy lights you had. It was a sweet picture of you tossing up a peace sign. You captioned it ‘Can’t stop smiling!!’
well, darling, i was wondering…
He paused, laying down in his own chassis and letting his ghost body float up and outwards with a phone to continue the text conversation. Now Mettaton could tap his chin in contemplation on what to say next.
After all, he didn’t want to come off too strong. But he had sincerely enjoyed spending time with you. Hell, he didn’t want to wait to see you again, he wasn’t exactly the most patient monster. Part of the consequences of being famous was that he was now accustomed to having things available whenever he wanted, but he realized that it wouldn’t be possible for it to always be that way with his new little friend.
Still, best to ask and be sure.
would tomorrow at dinner be alright?
Yes! If I wake up early and walk over there, I can be there by five. Is that okay?
You were hugging the phone to your chest, so happy that Mettaton wanted to see you so soon! You bit your lip and also the bullet. Time to get a bit cheesy.
There’s a Mettaton shaped hole in my heart that I gotta wait that long to see your wonderful face again, so you better see me in my dreams, ok?
You sent another emoji, this time of a sleeping creature with a heart next to it.
Oh - is there a dress code? I’ll try and pack something fancy that I can change into!
oh, nothing too fancy. i'm going to put on a bowtie, but that’s about it. and it’s a stick-on bowtie, so it doesn’t count as fancy. it’s basically just a sticker to make me look fancy.
Then he reread your texts and frowned slightly, pushing the fringe of hair out of his face as he wondered why you were thinking that you would have to walk all the way there. How you thought he wasn’t going to completely spoil you.
walk? oh, no.
Shaking his head fondly, the ghost tapped out a reply.
you’re not going to walk. I'll arrange transportation.
Pausing, he grinned privately and snickered at the followup text he sent, knowing that it would likely fluster you.
what sorts of drinks do you like, so i can know what they need to stock the limo with?
It did indeed fluster you. He was making a fuss so you didn’t have to walk? But you were used to it!
But the concern and the spoiling…You were kind of enjoying it.
Oh! Um. Seltzer water…? I’m not very picky!
You looked out your small window. The stars that somehow trickled in from above were shining.
Maybe after dinner tomorrow we could see these stars together? If you have more time, of course. The stars in Waterfall remind me so much of you. Almost like you fell from the cosmos and landed here with us. Maybe that’s your secret?
And something else happened that hadn’t in a long time. Something that physically couldn’t happen while Mettaton was in his boxy body. His ghost form and the new body? Those both could do it, but it was still rare.
He blushed.
flattery will get you everywhere, darling,
He teased, sending a winky emoji and adding a kissy-face one as well.
At the mention of looking at the stars, Mettaton could barely keep from jumping with joy. He loved gazing up at the heavens above! Well, heavens was a bit much. The glittering stones.
of course! if you’d like, we can even bring a few of the drinks i’ll have prepared for you with us to sip while we gaze up!
Sounds wonderful! I’ll see you in my dreams, Mettaton~!
You blushed once more before you sent her final text for the night:
Text me when the car’s almost here - I’m at Grillby’s in Snowdin! I can’t wait!!! Goodnight, Mettaton! Sweet dreams!
You sent a kissy face emoji and then promptly fell into dreamland.

Blind reactions to Deltarune chapter 1
Alright, so last night, I played through Deltarune chapter 1.
For those not in the know, this is a free teaser for the sequel to Undertale, which takes around 3-5 hours to complete. It’s meant for those who have “finished Undertale”, so if you haven’t either finished Undertale or, like me, watched enough playthroughs of the game that you’ve practically finished it by proxy, you should probably skip the rest of this post. Same goes if you haven’t played Deltarune yourself. Go do that.
Liveblogging Worm isn’t my first time sharing my reactions to things as I went along. It kinda comes naturally for me to do that. So a few minutes into Deltarune (in the classroom scene), I decided to share some thoughts I’d had up until that point. But the problem was, I couldn’t go into the #deltarune_spoilers channel on Loreweaver’s server to talk about it, or I’d get spoiled myself. So, I opened a NotePad document and began typing my thoughts there for later sharing. And then I continued doing that until I finished the game.
And hey, I have a liveblog, why not use it for this too? So, below the readmore, if you’re interested, here are my thoughts on Deltarune.
Warning: It’s long. Also, spoilers for Deltarune (duh), Undertale, Kingdom Hearts II and vaguely Homestuck, Wander Over Yonder and Over the Garden Wall.
It's kind of hilarious how the game goes "nah, you don't get to decide who you are", and then gives the character a name that works as a shortened version of my legal name.
Kris looks like an older Frisk, but doesn't share the name. Are they separate? But why would Toriel be raising them then?
The narration is far less filled with FUN than the narration in Undertale, giving Kris a depressing feel. The shaded eyes and the mirror narration "It's only you." (in contrast to Undertale's) "It's you!" reinforce this. I wonder if it has to do with Chara's presence in Undertale and the narrator!Chara theory.
Kris has a brother...?
Asriel's around? Well, then. Alternate universe alarm bells are ringing.
We could be following Chara, but the world seems to have monsters and humans living together, Toriel isn't a queen, and many characters in and after the driving cutscene shouldn't have been born yet when Chara was around.
Alphys as a school teacher is fun. I immediately went to her when she asked me to pick a partner, just to see what she'd say - I love that she's watching anime in class.
Decided to go for Monster Kid first, in case I couldn't check out everyone before making my choice. But apparently he's partnered already, so I guess there is no choice. I'm guessing the snake is the one who hasn't got a partner yet.
...Snowy, you're incorrigible.
Wait, so Temmie is partnered with an egg. That leaves an even number of other candidates. So I guess we're not going to find anyone to partner with. I suppose that fits the tone we're going for with the narration.
Blue bird guy is a jerk.
His name is Berdly? ...sure.
I like the reindeer.
Jockington. These names! And apparently the cat is named Catti. Not to be confused with Catty, whom I'm pretty sure I saw in the driving cutscene. Or did I only see her parents? I definitely saw Bratty, at least, so Catty shouldn't be in school. And the personalities don't match.
That's an origin story, alright. I suppose that means we've already got an implied ouroboros in this game, since Jockington was a hula hoop rather than a jumping rope.
Noelle is a good name for the reindeer. I'm not surprised to see Berdly objecting to the trio idea.
...hello there, important character. Susie?
So I suppose we're teaming up with the intimidating goth.
Poor Alphys is terrified of Susie. Susie honestly seems kind of chill at first glance, but there's gotta be a reason why she intimidates Alphys especially much.
Okay, who's eating chalk? I noticed the green chalk was missing from Kris' house, and now the school's chalk is gone for the third time. Did someone let a Homestuck character or two loose in this world?
So we're babysitting Susie on the chalk quest.
The classmates don't seem confident in Kris' survival. Apparently Susie has a reputation for beating people up.
"You SUZ, you LOSE!" Okay, Snowy, I'll give you that one. :p
What did Susie just do? Eat something? She doesn't seem to want me to have seen it.
Yeah, Susie doesn't seem so bad. So, secret, you say?
...bad timing to add that, huh. Also, quiet people piss you off? Hypocrite.
OH! That was the chalk! I was kidding when I said someone was eating it, but of course, this is Toby Fox. Which this electric guitar music is also reminding me of.
Whoops. Looks like she's gone full "well, why not make this worse so the punishment is worth it" mode.
"I would rather not lose my face, thank you very much."
All bark and no face-bite?
"If you hadn't gotten it by now, your choices don't matter." That's definitely meant in a meta sense. It's starting to become a theme. I suppose Deltarune isn't particularly branching, unless this changing is going to be a point.
Is "blurry yellow object" any way to talk about your teacher, Kris?
I like Susie's reactions to you trying to go the wrong way.
I don't think this is supposed to happen when you open a closet.
This is not a closet anymore, Susie.
"kind of big" YA THINK
Yeah, the closet's definitely broken, in some fashion. So where is this taking us? Narnia? The world of Undertale?
Aaand the door's closed.
And here goes the floor. Time to let gravity do its thing?
Can't have an Undertale game without falling into another world, eh? So, where's Susie? And is it just me or did Kris just get a new wardrobe? Yeah, that's definitely some kind of armor.
Oh hey, save point. I wonder if we're getting filled with anything. Dread, maybe. Everything's blue, even the save point...
"At times you see it flickering. The light only you can see. By second nature, you reach out and..." So Kris, whether they're Frisk or not, is familiar with the save points, and knows that others can't see them. Interesting.
Hang on, did I just overwrite a Kris save with a Krixwell save? I *knew* it wouldn't completely discard those answers from the start. (That's why I answered the same things when I restarted to get my headphones working.)
Hmm. Eyeballs on stalks that start swinging when you walk past them? I like the sounds they make.
Something just moved off-screen in the top right. Also, there's something flowing out of holes here. Oil?
Huh. An eye symbol. Reminds me of Madoka Magica.
Another one, in case you missed the first one... Am I supposed to go down this water(?)fall?
Yep. No return. Not that there's anything to return to.
Sleeping gray oozes...
Is this what's left of the underground after the pacifist ending? Except that doesn't explain the relation between Frisk, Asriel and Kris. I suppose it's possible that Frisk is the brother and took on the name Asriel as a tribute, but that honestly just seems rude. Besides, Toby would catch all sorts of flak if he were to gender Frisk now.
Pfft, those eyes and the oil hole look like a silly face. So, this *looks like* the first real choice of the story. Not that "real choice" necessarily means much - it's not like Undertale actually branched much. Most proper choices in Undertale were fake, still leading to the same outcome.
Hmm. If only one of these leads onward to the rest of the story, it's probably the silly face route. So I should probably go downwards if I want to not miss anything.
Yep. Dead end, with something shining in the oil hole.
...a Glowshard. Alright, let's see what its info says.
Woah, new menu! Earlier, in the house, I discovered that the menu was the same as in Undertale, but now that I'm in the closet, there's a new interface. Interesting.
The Glowshard's use is unknown. Alright.
Cell phone's not working and makes beautiful sounds to show that.
Apparently along with the armor, Kris wound up with a "wood blade". I wonder if that's actually the pencil they had earlier. I say this while sitting here with a shortsword-sized pencil next to me.
"Body contains a human SOUL." That's ominous. The fact that the game is specifying that makes it sound like it might change.
While Kris is wearing something that looks like armor, it doesn't show up on the equip screen as such.
They seem to have lost their 2 money.
Silly face path time!
Should I be concerned about that eyeball-stalk having a red outline? I probably should.
Interesting. Going into "combat" against the hostile stalks gave more things outlines, and the SOUL became visible. I wonder if getting hit would send me into a mini dodging game like when Undyne chases you in Undertale.
I should probably note that while I've watched many playthroughs of Undertale, I've never actually played it, apart from a browser version of the Sans fight. So if this contains bullet hells scaled after the end of Undertale at the very start, I'm kind of screwed.
"A power shines within you, breaking through the darkness." Determination? Hope? No, hope is HP. I suppose it could just be the ability to save, which is a side effect of determination. Even if Kris hasn't exactly seemed like the determined type so far.
Oh, right, restored HP. Maybe that was hope after all.
"Eye Puzzle". Alright, let's puzzle this out.
Without having read the sign, just looking at the iconography, I'm guessing the dots mean which eyes are affected by each light, and you have to close all of them to proceed.
"In this land, only eyes blinded by darkness can see the way..." Yeah, definitely sounds like I need to close them.
Rightmost eye and middle eye. Easy as p-eye. YOU'RE NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO CAN MAKE BAD PUNS SNOWY
I just saw the black thing again, at the right edge, moving real fast. Looked almost like an Enderman from Minecraft at a glance.
There it is again. I'm about to catch up with it, aren't I. Did it come down the other waterfall?
Oh cod, did I just kill one of the sleeping oozes?
Oh! It's Susie! Hi.
How did Kris get you into this? You're the one who ate the chalk so we had to get more, you're the one who pushed on into the closet.
Susie's outfit looks like she fell out of Kingdom Hearts. Maybe that's what's going on. Maybe Kris is Frisk's nobody, who's been living in a fake world.
Ooh, someone waving, you say?
Apparently they've got hostility in spades.
This looks like a ghost town. Like, literally, a town for ghosts, with the curved houses and all.
Well, at least it's a ghost town in the figurative sense. That castle is intriguing. Not to mention the geyser.
"Why the hell is there a castle inside a supply closet?" Ahaha
"Welcome, heroes...!" is off-center and it's bugging me.
A masked stranger introducing himself as the Prince of this Kingdom. In yellow. I don't trust this at all. Flowey, is that you?
The Kingdom of Darkness. Alright. Is this connected to the Underground in any way?
The stranger knows our names and called us heroes. He's been expecting us.
Heroes of Light? I don't know, I don't think I'd peg either of them as having that aspect.
Foretold by time and space... look, the Homestuck jokes write themselves and I think Toby Fox knows that.
Hopes and dreams, light and dark, balance of the world being threatened... fairly basic plot beats in and of themselves. Fair enough. Three heroes, including the Prince, supposed to restore the balance... The thing is, I still don't trust the Prince to be telling the truth, or at least, the full truth, and I think a lot of the plot is left in the inaccuracies. I'm watching you, Prince.
"Delta warriors" sounds like something you'll try to make a thing but not really succeed at making a thing.
"Please, won't you accept this destiny?" "Uhh... Nah." Ahaha, I love it.
The Prince seems genuinely distraught at Susie's refusal.
Pfffft, bye Prince! Oh my cod, is that you, Sans?
Okay, no, this isn't Sans. And he sounds like he's an antagonist, talking about the heroes "running away". He mentions his dad, whom I'm guessing is the supposed main antagonist for now.
"I'm... the bad guy." I'm not hearing an elaborate and catchy song to explain that, so your point is invalid.
"We both know you'll go EAST!" Yeah, because there's no other exit that we didn't come from.
Lancer, huh. As if the Son of the Month thing didn't make it clear that you're not the main antagonist. So, hey, depending on the exact role of his dad, would Lancer perhaps also count as "a Prince from the Dark" for the prophecy?
Alright, new fighting UI. This ought to be interesting. It looks kind of early-Final-Fantasy-esque?
(Act -> Check) Ohh, Lancer was the spade guy. Pfft, he's just got a burning bike, not a motorcycle.
So Susie's also found herself with a new weapon.
He claims his bike's running out of fuel, but the check established it doesn't actually run on fuel...
So what's the real reason he's forfeiting-- oh, dinnertime. Fair enough. Enjoy!
Ralsei. I think I've seen fanart of you. I like how you have a heart on your shirt - a human heart - to contrast with Lancer's spade. I don't trust it, but I like it.
So why don't you have any subjects, Ralsei? Why have you had to wait alone your whole life?
"Ralsei, the lonely prince, is now your ally." Hey... Ralsei is an anagram of Asriel...
"The power of fluffy boys shines through you." Ahahaha
Ooh, training dummy. White outline, which I suppose indicates you can fight it but it's not hostile like the ones with red outlines.
This big door looks familiar.
Ralsei explicitly asks me to do a pacifist run. Interesting.
These red trees look weird.
I like how it gave me a little thing telling me the name of the track that was starting to play. The Field of Hopes and Dreams, huh? It's pretty sweet, too. Meanwhile, Lancer left a message about upcoming enemies. Should be fun.
"If you're reading this, I guess you're dead." I think you got that backwards, dude.
Hi there, Lancer. I thought it was dinnertime?
Hah, the group term for the diamond-based Rudinns is "necklace". Nice.
So if you do the thing that lets you spare an enemy, you can also have your partner spare the enemy on the same turn. Good to know.
RIP Topchef's cake.
Maze of Death? Sounds pleasant.
I see Susie's not doing a pacifist run. Hey, what if she's the true main antagonist by the end of all this?
Pfft, poor Lancer has no sense of direction, apparently.
Hehe, the White Ribbon enhances Kris's cuteness. I wonder if that has mechanical consequences.
Apparently only Kris can seal the dark fountain, and Susie is stuck with us.
Oh my cod the fanfare gag is hilarious
Whoops. Susie killed the C.Round because I took the time to *Check it. Does that mean I'm no longer on a pacifist route?
Violet tormentor. Good title.
"The power of mean girls shines within you." Oh my cod, Kris, you can't just ask people why they're violet!
*haggles the tutorial seller down to 1 dark dollar, buys, and then just turns around* Nah.
This shop guy looks like someone mixed together the Beldam, Mad-Eye Moody, an old cat and the goggles from Splinter Cell.
Seam, pronounced "Shawm"? Not a bad name for someone who looks to be part doll.
Lightners, Darkners... Apparently the Lightners were godlike. Are the Lightners the monsters, and the Darkners their "shadows"? Ralsei being the shadow of Asriel?
The Darkners were "locked away and left behind". Sounds familiar.
King seeking revenge...
Historically, there were four kings, in the "Card Castle". No points for guessing how the kings were themed, or who Lancer's dad is. Or who Ralsei's dad was, for that matter.
So does that make Lancer the Jack of Spades?
A strange knight, description in red, appeared and locked three of the kings away. Again, no points for guessing which one wasn't locked away. So does this knight work for the King of Spades, or vice versa? Are there Aces in all of this?
Oh, alright, so the King of Spades put the Knight and his son, Lancer, into power. That suggests the King works for the Knight rather than vice versa. Possibly not willingly.
"Haven't seen this much chaos since... Ha ha ha... Well, you don't need to know about THAT." Since what? Since just before the Lightners left for the surface? Since some plant absorbed nearly every Lightner's soul for a while?
Bought the Amber Card and a couple more Dark Candies.
Alright, let's go see what bullshit the desperate tutorial salesman has for us.
Ah, yes, because this group of suspicious individuals don't look ready to ambush us.
ROUXLS KAARD. The surname is obviously a reference to cards, but everything else about this name screams "anagram". DARK SOUL ARX? AR DARXOULS? SOUR KLAXARD?
I love how there are tutorial guys for Ralsei and Susie, and the way they barely know what they're talking about. Is the last one for Kris? ...yep.
Oh, nice, Kris Master and Ralsei point out the thing I found out earlier about sparing on the same turn.
So there are two paths that both seem to keep going. One with a puzzle, and one with an encounter. I saw the puzzle and went back to the encounter... Hm. Let's try the puzzle too.
Ahh, it's something you're not meant to be able to do unless you've been to a later section of the game. So either you'll be able to go back here later, or you're supposed to use meta knowledge from a previous playthrough. Then again, I kind of suspect what the order is anyway. If I'm right, I won't go on through, because I'm not supposed to see this yet, but I want to try it out.
Alright, looks like it's not the standard order of the suits. Fair enough, that'd be too easy. Even if the input is a puzzle in itself.
I have to do the encounter again?
Well, I made a few mistakes this time, so Susie killed one of the Rudinns.
"When you step into the light, you'll return to where you were before." I don't think it's talking about home. Avoid the glowing tiles, got it.
Hm. Easier said than done. Right, I should probably run.
Can I switch to the lane that's fading before the light fades in on the lane I'm on? ...yes! Puzzle solved.
Apparently the effect of the light only applies to Kris.
Is that a bucket, Lancer? Ew.
Oh great, it's literally to put bodily fluids in. Toby knows exactly what he's doing here.
Oh cod, he's asking for an official name. Ralsei, don't you dare say Delta Warriors.
"Blue person"... how did I not notice that Kris is still blue?
Alright, so I get descriptions of the papers. Definitely not going for the neat paper, which is obviously Ralsei. So my choices are to let Susie name the team, or to let Lancer name it. Great.
Let's see what Susie's got.
Ahaha, he's not allowed to say it. Classy, Susie.
THE $!$! SQUAD
Cool, I'm down with that. Better than Delta Warriors. Well, not really, but still.
Tier-TWO swear words. What's tier one? Darn, heck, etc?
Collective dad? Does he think we're siblings?
No, Ralsei, we can not consider a different name.
(Lancer to Ralsei) "Yeah! How about I be in the Squad and YOU be the bad guy?" That's an interesting idea you've got there, Lancer.
I kinda trust Ralsei a bit more at this point, because he seems a lot like the non-evil iteration of Asriel, but I'm still not entirely sure. That could easily be a front.
"The power of The $!?  Squad shines within you." Ahahaha
So the Great Board is inhabited by chess people. I suppose maybe the Knight is from there? Or maybe that's just what Toby wants me to think. Now where have I heard a story about chess pieces and cards and a takeover from within before...
So what's this extremely dangerous thing? A card shredder?
Oh, a C.Round. Maybe we can keep Susie from killing this one.
Ah, fuck, it got promoted. Nice legs.
Hah, K.Round. As in King Round. Not sure what the C stood for.
That was a fun little fight. And now it seems it's time to explain to Susie that violence isn't always the best option.
Ahh, great. Switching sides because she's bad at heroing. Honestly, though, it really does suit her better.
Alright, now I'm in a forest, and there's a door with colorful flames. Interesting.
The door is for fast travel. Got it.
"We managed to fix this thingamajig up for you." Oh yeah, that's right, I found an empty doorframe earlier.
Oh jeez, they've practiced an alternating dia-monologue.
"Dark Jack Lancer"? Guess I was right about his card, then.
Ahaha, the Dark $!?  Squad! And it's Lancer who says it, too. Susie, you're a bad influence.
So there's a Rudinn asking me to help with a gift for a friend named Clover (I think I have an idea which suit she's aligned to). Sports, cute boys and trees? Well, I've got one of those things.
Salsa stump. Well, at least they're getting along.
I got a scarf that's apparently sharp enough to use as a weapon. Nice.
Oh hey, a puzzle based on the same input method as the post-game puzzle from before. I know how this works, so this shouldn't be too hard, what with the password being stated.
...yeah, that only requires clubs and a heart, that's super easy.
I like Bloxer.
Alright, so there's a dead end down here with two seemingly unreachable buttons in sight. Looks like a path-building puzzle.
There's a symbol puzzle meant to teach you how to mix the lower and higher suits. I managed to find the answer in two tries, before talking to any of the hint... beings.
...who were apparently one three-headed being. I may have just triggered a fight by not talking to them when I came back into the room after checking whether the answer was the same to the symbol puzzle I just passed in the room with Bloxer.
Oh! This is Clover. Hey, Clover, would you like a gift? I've got a cute boy here.
Let's talk about boys.
"Herselves". Cute.
Alright, bake sale time. We've got diamonds, hearts, and spades (run by The Dark $!?  Squad), but no clubs. Why not?
The Choco Diamond and the Hearts Donut each heal ??hp. The Choco Diamond sounds like it'll work better if given to certain characters. Maybe it heals more if the target is diamonds-aligned. Same going for the Hearts Donut on hearts-aligned characters. I should buy another Hearts Donut and test that on Kris and Ralsei.
Sure, I'll donate to the noble cause of kicking my ass too.
Did they just... do that so they could buy a Hearts Donut?
So to the west we have another fast travel door, and to the north there's... a martial arts dojo?
Oh, the smith! I just saw in the inventory that the Broken Cake is a key item that needs to be fixed by a master blacksmith. Guess it's time to do that.
Ahahaha the squeaky hammer sounds! And the cake was "fixed beyond recognition". I love this.
A topcake... can I wear it like a top hat? Is it armor?
Ah, no, but it is a 160 hp full party heal, single use. Good to keep in store, just like the butterscotch-cinnamon pie.
"(This cardboard stand is actually just a fake cardboard stand of a cardboard stand.)" Pfft. Glad we got that cleared up.
Hello, hungry hungry caterpillar.
Nice disguise, Lancer.
Oh, please tell me I get a choice of "the most evil thing I can imagine" here.
Oh fuck, this is even better.
Look, I know the duck face is "garbage", but I can't just NOT pick that one.
Tank body sounds good.
I'm torn between the sneaker shoes and the attractive wheels... I think I'll go with the sneakers. Wheels just make too much sense for the tank body.
Lancer: "Are you sure you're not evil?" Ralsei: "Er, no, I suppose we just have a knack for it." ...
Damn. The bird thing killed me and now I have to make my beautiful thrashing machine all over again.
"The darker it gets, the more you can see." That's familiar. Like the eye puzzle early on. What does it mean, thematically? That you have to see the darkness to truly understand the world?
I was right about the Hearts Donut. It heals Kris by 20 hp, but Ralsei by 50.
Alright, so a Rudinn just confirmed that Susie is considered a Lightner. Does that extend to Kris too?
The save point here names the room as "Before Maze". Way to spoil it, dude.
These villains are so ridiculously ineffectual. But how long is the Papyrus section of this game going to last? I didn't buy for a second that Lancer was even close to being the main antagonist, and now we've long since established the bigger threats (the King and the Knight).
Well, the maze was something. Ooh, machine time!
Tumblr media
Aw, I didn't get to fight it. Fair enough.
Susie says our design sucked, so does that mean they've come up with another one?
Ralsei points out that Susie needs him and Kris to return home, but I don't think she WANTS to go home anymore.
Alright, defeat means friendship, huh? Bring it on.
Hah, trying to convince them not to fight is working on Lancer.
Ahahaha, Lancer blocked the pacification with his bike and the bike got tired.
Lancer, join OUR team! That way you can be a team with Susie even though she's joining back up with us! And then when Ralsei turns out to be evil, you can take his place as Prince from the Dark.
Pfft, poor Ralsei being tasked with making the track jackets.
Oh cod, no thanks, put those eyes back where they came from, Lancer, or so help me.
Lancer's Stool Forme is very useful.
Susie is SO into Lancer at this point.
I kinda like and kinda hate how Lancer just floats outside the path instead of following the rest of the party Earthbound-style.
It does seem like Kris is counted as a Lightner. I'm not sure how to feel about the whole "Darkners can't feel fulfilled unless they're helping Lightners" thing, though.
So this is very much the calm before the storm, where our protagonists are happy and content with being friends. What's going to shake this up?
Oh hey, it's Card Castle. Neat.
Lancer doesn't want us fighting people inside the castle. Is it for our sake, or for the sake of the people in there?
See ya, Lancer.
Well then. We've been captured.
So where's Susie?
Ate some moss and “mossed out” my HP. Nice. :P
Took me some time to realize that I had to continue talking to Ralsei to proceed.
Pfft. Classy, Susie.
I like the thing about thinking about what Susie's doing now to segue into a section where we semi-control her.
...alright, where we're tricked into thinking we can control her.
Especially the purple one, eh? Is that because she's especially dangerous, or because you care especially about her?
"It's fine, actually." Is it, Susie? "You don't have to say anything." This is becoming a trend for you. Making your conclusions and telling people not to bother saying things.
Lancer, you may want to explain yourself quickly, regardless of Susie's demands that you shut up. Your face is in danger.
He's attacking, but he's doing the Toriel thing where the attacks fan out. I wonder if there's a path in this game where you cause Lancer to accidentally kill Susie rather than let Susie kill Lancer. If things are going to get to that point.
These spades are better at dodging the heart than Toriel's flames were.
He's visibly trembling more with each attack.
Good, Susie. Good. Now put down the axe and listen to Lancer.
What, a lengthy elevator scene with no proper elevator music?
Susie is the best character in this thing, so far.
Card Castle, first floor. Time to pay attention to the order of the suits' rooms, I think.
"You are unbanned from free ham sandwich day" ahahaha
IT WORKED.
Alright, so diamonds first.
Club Sandwich, can be divided into three to heal the entire team. Cute.
So there's a disembodied voice that has trapped us in a room. "Thoust FOOLS!"
Oh hey, it's Rouxls Kaard, "thou're greatest adversary". Clearly also an adversary of grammar.
Shit, that puzzle looks really fucking hard, man.
So does the Royal Flush (bathroom) count as the spades room for the sake of the post-game puzzle?
Well, the third floor is clearly the Hearts floor, since there are Hathy here.
I just told Susie to flirt and it's beautiful.
Oh cod, it's so awkward that there's no need to even spare.
Well, that was definitely the Hearts room. Diamond, maybe Spades, then Hearts.
Clubs door, and now another room like the one we met Rouxls in. Time for another "puzzle"?
Hah! It's not even a different super easy puzzle, it's just a longer version of the earlier one!
I like the Clubs room.
Alright, there's the Spades room, so the Royal Flush doesn't count. Diamonds, Hearts, Clubs, Spades.
Oh my cod, Rouxls is a shopkeeper.
"decidedesteth"
Oh for the love of cod. He's got a K.Round too. :P
Ralsei thinks the crown looks different... is it a Q.Round?
Ahh. Rouxls is controlling it using the crown. Or so he claims.
Hah, tossing Ralsei at it. I like this plan.
Throne room. Time to meet the king?
What happened here? Lancer said he was going ahead to talk to the king. Did they end up fighting?
Hi, Lancer.
Wait, Lancer's dad was the Knight, not the King. Right? Or are the Knight and the King the same thing at this point, since the fourth king put the Knight in charge? Right, that's how it worked. So we're now seeing the talk Lancer was going to do.
Pfft. I like how the Knight/King is like "Oh, Lancer..."
What was that about "They care not for you", Mr. "I'll drop my son off the edge to let him splatter"?
I did not get a choice in whether to kneel or not. The characters made that choice on their own.
OOH, NICE BACKSTAB!
Ah, see, this is a guy I can believe when he claims to be the bad guy. Even if I'm still not fully sold on the idea that he's necessarily the final boss.
"Lightbringer"? "Your very existence goes against our own"? Interesting...
By the Knight's will... so this ISN'T the Knight?
Is Ralsei the Knight?
"You, that left us in the shadows, stripped of meaning..." Yeah, I think I was onto something earlier.
Ralsei probably isn't the Knight. His interactions with the King wouldn't make much sense that way.
The King seems to be indicating that he's worshipping the Knight instead of the Lightners.
The Knight made the second fountain? Maybe even the first?
The shadows of the fountains are creating a new world... for the Darkners...
I'm taking it that this is a survival fight, like Sans. I just need to let this guy exposit for a while.
Ahh, so it's not so much that it's making a literal new world as that it's darkening the existing world. An apocalypse which he believes to be in favor of the Darkners.
"Enough talk"? Was I wrong?
The King seems to be getting less confident.
And he ended the battle.
His... cape just flew away?
So he's asking for a peaceful solution now. Alright, sure.
I don't like the sound effects here. They sound too much like someone's about to get killed. Maybe the cape flew off to tell the Knight about the King's failure/betrayal?
Honestly, the King just seems to be dying without anyone actually hurting him.
Nice, yes, good work healing him, Ralsei. Let's just hope he wasn't faking it just to get that heal.
...yep.
"You can't even say?" Nice echo of what Susie said at the start.
"Let me tell you a secret." We're echoing the whole scene, huh? But somehow, I don't think "All bark and no face-bite" applies to the King.
Susie FTW.
"But THEY might." Who's "they"? Kris? And maybe Ralsei? Or are we bringing in other characters?
*crazy glue voice* get him
"Now I'M the dad!!!" Uh, Lancer, I don't think that's how it works.
And now we're getting Ralsei contemplating whether kindness is always the solution after all, since his healing the king almost fucked everything. Nice. Character growth all around.
Wait, Ralsei, why are you staying behind? I thought you claimed we needed you too to stop the fountain?
Nice try, Susie. I know you want to talk to Lancer.
See? Lancer sees right through you.
Hiya, Asriel! What's up?
Not gonna explain that, huh?
So, uh, did Kris's soul just leave their body to fuse with the fountain?
Aaand we're in the supply closet. Alright.
Wait, no, this is an unused classroom.
...menu's back to the Undertale style.
Let's try calling home.
Alright, so some time has passed. It's after school. Don't think going to tell Alphys you couldn't find the chalk is going to work, Susie.
Toriel is sweet. Though it's a little sad that the word "friend" makes her give Kris a free pass, because it implies she's surprised that they've gained one.
Playing cards and chess... Legos... Fuck, this is lending some serious credence to the dream idea, much in the same way a lot of things in Over The Garden Wall reflect what's seen in episode 9. But like there, I'd say this was probably a certain degree of real.
The room we ended up in is to the right of the supply closet.
Sure, go back there tomorrow... if you can.
The supply closet is locked now.
Hey, I found Asriel's/Frisk's/the brother's locker. And Kris's.
Ooh, Toriel's classroom!
The clock has been updated to 10 PM in Toriel's classroom, but in Alphys', it still says 2 PM.
I can visit the Librarby, neat.
So is the game over now, or will we be seeing the return to the Dark Kingdom?
Hah, found Toby. I'm aware that this is only supposed to be a teaser, so I guess it'll deliver on the promise that you'll be able to go into the computer lab in the full game.
Books written by Undertale characters, nice.
UNDYNE
Wait, Asgore's kid? Kris is Asgore's kid?? Or, wait, wasn't it Undyne who couldn't tell Asgore and Toriel apart? No, that was Papyrus. So this raises the whole alternate universe question again. Who the fuck is Kris?
Undyne claims not to know who Alphys is.
...who's the mayor?
I found a door to a bunker or something that makes spooky sounds. This feels like plot.
Gerson's dead, among a couple others who may or may not be characters we know.
At least Gerson being dead rules out this happening before Undertale, in the same timeline.
Burgerpants!
So Azzy's in college.
"Things happened" in Kris's family before Asriel left. Asgore and Toriel separating?
SANS
Sans is new in town, and has never met Kris. Kris, say hello to your future stepfather.
And he wants Kris to hang out with Papyrus. I'm all for this.
(I'm also all for finding a save point so I can go to bed.)
Asgore x Alphys???
So Alphys watches a Simpsons knockoff and has an imaginary cat named MewMew. The alternate universe theory intensifies.
Apparently Asgore runs a flower shop.
Aww, that hug was adorable.
Containers containing flowers instead of souls...
Time for bed.
Umm. Kris. You, uh. Kinda need that soul.
So, uh, the Chara option is still available...
Well then! That was Deltarune chapter 1. I'm gonna write a wrap-up tomorrow, because it's way too late now and I need to go to bed in real life. Good night!
...Alright, hello again! It's been about 17.5 hours since I finished Deltarune chapter 1, and in that time, I've been thinking a bit. I think I've come up with a decent theory about what's going on with the world of the Lightners in relation to Undertale:
I don't think this is post-pacifist. I think this is post-genocide.
"Oh, but many of the characters you kill on the genocide route are alive, and monsters seem to live on the surface!"
Here's the thing: At the end of the genocide route, you meet Chara, who talks about wanting to "erase this pointless world and move on to the next". The choice they give you is fake, both options end in you, the player, being killed, ending the game. What I'm suggesting is that Chara did just that: Erased the world and moved on to the next. That "next" world is the world of Deltarune.
Chara isn't entirely physical, so they need a vessel, like Frisk was in Undertale. That's why they're taking control of Kris, and throwing out Kris's soul (hey, look who managed to guess that their soul would leave their body, even if I didn't guess how). I'm not sure whether Chara was already partially possessing Kris at the beginning and just decided it was time to get rid of that annoying soul right at the end. The soul being the culmination of one's being and the center of emotion... Identity and emotion seemed to be fairly low in Kris from the start - maybe Chara had to weaken the soul before they could toss it out and take proper control?
There's also the player to deal with, though. Chara knows we're here - you can tell from the way they glance at the fourth wall after taking control - so I wonder if they'll let us continue controlling their vessel, Kris. Then again, in Undertale, Chara seemed to consider that a good thing, but what if the player continues to steer Kris towards pacifism?
Meanwhile, the world of the Darkners is still largely a mystery. They seem to be a remnant of the Underground's essence in some way, but who knows if monsters ever lived underground in this world?
A lot about the Dark Kingdom adventure in chapter 1 mirrors Undertale. In fact it very much feels like discount Undertale. (Which I suppose is fair considering this game does in fact cost 100% less than Undertale.) I wonder if any of it was Chara's work, whether Kris knew it or not?
This chapter of the game is deceptively simple, but there really is a lot to think about here.
All in all... The game wasn't quite as good as Undertale, though it had its share of funny and/or heartfelt moments, and it did good stuff with the characters of Susie and Lancer. I like the introduction of a party system due to its effect on character dynamics, and the battle graphics were a huge step up.
I suppose I shouldn't expect Deltarune chapter 1 to hold up to the whole of Undertale. The full version has a hell of a lot to live up to, but I'm optimistic about it. I think it can at least get close. And with Chara getting visibly involved, I have a feeling things are only going to get more interesting from here.
In conclusion: Fuck Berdly.

To every writer out there: an important issue!
Hey guys! I don’t usually write these kinds of posts, but I’ve been on the internet a lot lately (reading Undertale fanfiction on AO3, mostly), and I noticed something disturbing.
We’re all suckers for good angst, alright? Every character has their flaws and issues and traumas and watching them struggle is a full-on, beautiful emotional rollercoaster. Bonus points if there’s a painfully complicated romance thrown in the mix.
Except that, for some reason, being in pain and struggling isn’t about getting better anymore. More often than not, it has become romanticized. More often than not, a character would be broken and hurt, and they would only accept themselves after they find a love interest who keeps telling them that they’re just “perfect in every way”. And that doesn’t really solve our broken character’s issues, it just makes them go "I'm so broken I'll never love myself... oh, that hot skeleton/monster/person loves me. Keeps telling I'm perfect. Welp, I'm still broken but as long as they're with me I'm okay. I'll just build my world around them and we'll stay together forever"
Do you know what that logic is, my dudes? That’s called emotional dependency. And that’s not a healthy thing.
And I’d like to stress the fact that anyone who is dealing with trauma or self-depreciation does not need to wait for the perfect love interest to come and save them. You don't need someone to fall in love with you to accept yourself and get better. Trauma is something you can recover from. It will not haunt you forever. And as time passes, you won’t even feel sad recalling it. You can move on on your own. You’re strong enough to do this, even if you do not realize that right now.
A relationship where both parties are broken and mend each other is good. Each one of them grows, becomes stronger, becomes independent, and they choose to stay together because their love is strong and healthy.
A relationship where both ends are broken and try to mend each other and end up 100% dependent on each other's approval "but that's okay because they love each other and they'll stay together forever"? NOT good. Because in real life, breakups happen. Problems happen. You need to be 100% functional to have a healthy relationship with someone. Building your universe around a single person or a group of people is not a healthy attitude.
You can't break down again just because you had an argument with the person who helped you through your trauma/ past experiences. Even if it’s literally the person you love most in the universe, even if it’s the person you’d die for. Can be family, can be friends, can be lovers… in any case, they are not the entire universe.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying your should be wary of the people you love, or not be hurt if something bad happens, but “Oh, God, my heart is breaking because something went wrong with the person I love so much and I miss them and I want to fix this” and “Oh, God, something went wrong with the person around whom I’ve built my entire universe and now I know that I’m worthless and my entire world is falling apart because what’s the point if they’re not around anymore” are two completely different mindsets. And it’s pretty obvious that the second one is not good.
If you think it's okay “because it's just fiction” then you’re forgetting how powerful writing is.
You’re forgetting how human beliefs are shaped by what they read and what they're exposed to. When every time you're on the Web or on the radio or watching a show or a movie, the plot has this emotional dependency twist because weakness (And yes, emotional dependency makes the individual feel weak. I don't mean it in a degrading sense. I mean it in a "you've got to become stronger and healthier" sense) suddenly became desirable and attractive.... It's just bad.
Worst part is that now, even pain and trauma are sexualized.
A character can be having a mental breakdown about their past trauma, and their s/o doesn't think of talking about it or -God forbid! - rationalizing the problem. No. They just praise them and hug and suddenly it ends in make out sessions and/or sex.
I guess what I want to say is… Emotional dependency is a real issue. Traumas are a real issue. It’s something people struggle with every day. It’s something you have to go through when you’re recovering from trauma and it’s not easy. There are people out there fighting it and trying to figure out how to live with it. Reading stories that validate emotional dependency will not make whoever is reading feel better. They are even more likely to fall deeper into it.
And it’s never nice to see so many elements in the media being adamant about how no one can move past their traumas, and how past actions will always influence your choices now and are unescapable. That is not true. I repeat, it is not true. You can always become a better person. There is always something good and beautiful and amazing about you.
So, to every writer out there, if you already knew this and kept on writing anyways, that’s totally your jam. Just use a tag and warn people. If you didn’t know this… then please keep it in mind. This is not a hate post. I’m just trying to get a message out there: being in pain isn’t beautiful, or romantic, or poetic. It’s just being in pain and it fucking hurts.  Please, for the love of all that’s holy, don’t belittle this.
Again, this is not a hate post. Just spreading awareness.
 Stay safe and happy, everyone!
