From 2010- Start Of The Take Me Home Tour
2013
Part 29
Tumblr media
23rd February- London O2
“I got this, everything will be fine” I say to myself in the mirror while my hairstylist/makeup artist Erin is putting my hair half up after spending the last few hours doing my hair and makeup
“Of course you’ve got this. Your going to be fine”
“It’s just the last time I was on tour Alex…”
“I know, but he would want you to carry on doing what you love. He’s here with you, I can feel it” Erin says finishing up “and we are done” just in time as well as there’s a knock on my dressing room door. Charlotte walks in with my clothes rack
“Time to get dressed, 5SOS have just gotten off stage”
“Ok thanks” I give myself one more look in the mirror, take a deep breath and let it out “everything’s going to be fine” I say one more time to myself before taking my pill and washing it down with some water. I take my first outfit from Charlotte and get dressed, meeting up with the boys back stage
“5 minutes” I hear a stage manager yell
“Alright?” Harry asks
“Hmhm” I nod smiling, but I’m honestly so nervous, more than I was during our first tour.
Soon enough I hear the intro to the tour and hundreds of screams. The start of Up All Night begins and we walk on stage. Annoyingly my inears aren’t working so I have to take on out so I can actually hear Harry before the chorus. I notice Louis also doesn’t have his in so while Zayn is singing both Louis and I quickly run off stage to see if the techs can fix the issue.
“Hello!” Harry shouts into his Microphone “we are One Direction and it’s and absolute pleasure to play for you today” as Harry talks Zayn hands me a water bottle “thank you so much f’being here”
“Thanks” I say to Zayn opening up the bottle and taking a sip of water
“We can see everyone!” I hear Harry shout
“Want to say that any louder?” I say to Harry
“Oh shush” Harry sticks his tongue out at me so I stick mine out back
“So mature” Zayn says shaking his head “so the next song we’re going to do, I’m not sure if any of you know it, it’s called One Thing”
“Come on O2. I tried playing cool….” Liam starts while Harry and I are dancing stupidly making Zayn laugh
“Shot me out of the sky. You’re my kryptonie. You keep making me weak, yeah frozen and can’t breathe”
“Somethings gotta give now, cause I’m dying just make you see that need you here now cause” I point to the audience who shout ‘you’ve got that one thing’
“Let’s here you O2!” Liam shouts.
“Everyone having a good time?” Niall asks “good stuff. Right the next part of the show is the most important part of a One Direction show. Let’s look at Twitter. Ok so we’ve taken in some of your questions and we’re gonna answer them here and now in the O2 Arena”
“Where’s cookie? YN I think this one’s for you” Zayn says. The boys all look at me waiting for an answer
“She’s with my friend Emma while where on tour. When we’re in Birmingham I’ll get to see her” I reply to the question
“Ok this one’s for me. What’s your favourite song to play on the guitar?” Niall reads “I think it’s a remix of what makes you beautiful and I’m sexy and I know it”
“Which Disney movie do you prefer?” Liam reads of
“YN will watch any” Harry laughs
“Hey I have a favourite”
“Don’t we know it Nants ingonyama bagithi baba” Niall sings
“And is Cookie is in the building you know she’s getting lifted up”
“Ok well what about you boys?” I ask
“There’s a few classics aren’t there, but I think I’ll have to go with the Lion King as well” Louis says
“Yes!” I run over to him and give him a high five
“Zayn I know your a man who likes cartoons. Talk to me” Liam says
“Tarzan”
“Good choice. Harry?”
“Is Dumbo Disney?”
“Is dumbo Disney?” I scoff “yes of course it’s Disney”
“You do fancy the little Mermaid though don’t you?” Liam teases
“I think it’s your turn” Harry dodged the question
“Mines more of a Pixar movie. It’s toy story” we finish up the Twitter section and continue on with the concert.
By the end of the night we are all exhausted. I get dressed in a pare of sweats and a jumper. I take out my contacts and place my glasses on. I grab my stuff and head out of my dressing room and knock on the boys’ door which opens in no time
“So that’s where my hoodie went” Harry says letting me in
“Oops” I shrug
“Are they my sweats?” Louis asks
“Maybe” I shrug again. Louis raises his eyebrows at me “ok fine but they’re more comfortable”
“Well now we know what to buy you for your birthday” Niall jokes.

Hello! If you don't mind me asking, are you planning on watching House of the Dragon? I'm personally unsure about it. I was cautiously optimistic about it since D&D are not involved, but the recent casting news have been ugh disappointing imo. What do you think?
Hey anon! Sorry to say I kind of mind you asking because my inbox is still closed (to everyone except my secret Santas, which is why the ask page is accessible at all), but then I realized it’s possible if you’re on the mobile app only, you haven’t seen said note in my askbox, or my FAQ, or anything of the sort. And with older metas of mine being reblogged recently, it’s possible you may be confused. (I hope you’re on mobile only and not just ignoring my requests.) So I wanted to inform you of that... but also, y’know, I kind of wanted to make a post about the HotD cast anyway? And this ask is as good a prompt as any... so, you’re lucky, but please don’t push your luck. ;)
So, straight up: I currently have no plans to watch House of the Dragon. HBO is not getting any of my goddamn money, I don’t trust like that. And hunting down illegal livestreaming sites is a pain in the ass and I regret ever doing it for GoT, as well as regretting getting drunk every weekend enough to dampen my senses to ever tolerate that show. Yeah it’s different showrunners and writers, I know. It’s still (mostly) the same executives at HBO and even if the pervert producer is gone (or is he?), you know they still just want to sell sex and violence and dragons to an audience that thinks fantasy is for geeks.
Also, considering that Fire & Blood’s story of Dance of the Dragons has very little actual narrative or dialogue, and the historical record is deliberately untrustworthy, that gives them pretty much full rein to do whatever they like with the story and characterization and words without even being slightly obliged to GRRM at all. Furthermore, since the story is wholly political with virtually none of the magical side of ASOIAF (excepting dragons), and honestly does not have much in the way of themes or depth that main ASOIAF or even D&E has, I think it will be very hard for an adaptation to show even those brief sparks of quality that used to make me wistful GoT couldn’t be that good all the time and eventually just made me frustrated and depressed. Note I do like the history and characters of the Dance despite myself, despite its many many many textual issues, but I don’t need to see an adaptation, I have a very visual imagination. I don’t watch a lot of television to begin with, I don’t see why I should start again with this.
However, I’m not going to avoid spoilers or discussion, and I’ll probably follow the show the tumblr way, through gifsets and video clips and people bitching on their blogs etc. If, somehow, by some miracle of good screenwriting and acting, the show manages to transcend its source material, I’m sure I will be informed. And then, if and only if then, I may try watching. (Without, of course, giving HBO any of my goddamn money.) We shall see.
(Though I certainly don’t know why anyone in Targ standom would ever watch a Dance adaptation considering almost every Targaryen and everyone else in the story is terrible except Helaena and the kids, and considering how the story ends, unless y’all are gluttons for punishment? (I do not comprehend hatewatching, sorry.) It’ll probably be fun at first to see the adventures of those “precious silver douchebags” (to borrow a friend’s tag), but eventually rocks fall, everyone dies, including the girlboss you know you’ll hope the story will be changed enough that she succeeds. Just letting you know now, she won’t.)
That said. I’ve been following the casting news and I think the hate/fear/wild screaming is entirely overblown. Yeah, I know, but wait, just listen. On Friday I officially welcomed @naomimakesart to the “favorite character is now played by an actor who looks nothing like most fanart and is mostly known for wildly different roles” club. I still remember that day in September 2009 when my brother texted me “yarp”... and that right there is the thing. Yeah. Rory McCann looks very little like most pre-GoT Sandor fanart... but many fans grew to love him anyway. (There are some who never did, of course. And yeah the character went off the rails by the end, but truly, who didn’t. Having seen his audition, having spoken to him and heard him wistfully talk about book scenes he loved, I’m convinced if Rory had only been given Sandor’s actual scenes and such, he would’ve killed it. Sigh. Deep, deep sigh.)
And Rory isn’t the only one. Neither of the actors for Jaime and Cersei were considered “beautiful” enough at first. I recall very clearly people bitching about Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (about his nose particularly?) because they had wanted Tarzan-era Travis Fimmel to be Jaime. (Seeing people bitch because current-Fimmel isn’t playing Daemon made me laugh out loud for both BEYONCE?! meme -type “why would you ever cast him omg he doesn’t fit my headcanon Daemon at all”, and amazing amounts of fandom flashbacks.) Lena Headey was “too square-jawed”, “too mean-looking” (since at the beginning you should never be able to guess she’s evil), “too dark-complected”, “too mannish”, not at all attractive enough. (Tricia Helfer was the most common “but I wanted” for Cersei, btw.) And of course “they don’t remotely look like twins, ugh!” Note, there’s receipts for all of this, none of it is made up. (Unfortunately.) Those two actors are just the ones whose casting wank I recall most clearly, particularly because oh how the turn tables.
Also. You know, there’s a post with Matt Smith and Mark Simonetti’s TWOIAF Daemon going around with shrieks of horror... and I’m finding it maddening in a “am I crazy? am I  the crazy one???” way, because Matt looks like the painting. Their features are not that dissimilar.
Tumblr media
Same deepset eyes. Same cheekbones of doom. Same thin lips. Same protruding chin. Same high forehead. Same invsible eyebrows ffs. Matt has a squarer jaw, and a longer more rectangular face, and a wider nose, but considering that Daemon’s features are not described in the text, and this is the only official ASOIAF artwork that shows Daemon’s face straight on, I can for sure see why he was probably shortlisted to begin with. And that’s not even getting into to his role in The Crown, which I’ve heard is very well played with politics and palace intrigue... and if you doubt Smith can play seductive/roguish and/or evil (depending on how you LARP as a Westeros historian), or look good with long hair... well. I do not want to watch the movie, but this trailer is disturbingly enlightening.
And as for Rhaenyra... y’all know this show is starting at the beginning of the story, right? When she’s a teenager? Not a voluptuous MILF? Yeah, Emma D’Arcy doesn’t look like a Magali Villeneueve painting (though who does, good lord), but you know who she does look remarkably like? Harry Lloyd.
Tumblr media
Same jawline. Same nose. Same thin lips. Same sharp cheekbones. Notably, same kind of sharp cheekbones and deep-set eyes as Matt Smith. HBO evidently has a concept of a “Targaryen look” that’s a little bit quirkier than supermodel-Greek statue-gods on earth, yeah, fine. But it’s consistent, and they look like family, and that-- that is good casting.
And yeah, in a few months to a year or so, you’ll see them in costume and wigs and makeup, you’ll see them in motion and speaking lines, and go Oh. That’s different. Never mind. And while people will make fanart of the show depictions of the characters and those will probalby get popular, they’ll also keep doing fanart of their pre-show headcanons, and those too will be popular. (God knows when I draw or visualize book!Sandor, Rory does not come to mind, lol.) Either way, there’s no reason to panic. We’ll live.
(Though will we live well? Got to wait on the writing and showrunning for that, alas.)

Extra Cuddles
Fluffy/ Angst blurb about Dad!Harry
“Goodnight baby, I love you” you whispered to your little boy as you tucked him into his bed. He had managed to fall asleep in the middle of Tarzan during your family movie night.
The fact that you had managed to tire your 3-year-old out today was a true miracle and you could not be more excited to curl up in bed with Harry and finish the book you’ve had sitting on your nightstand for over a month. Carefully closing the door you made your way back to your room to go wash your face and put on one of Harry’s old tour shirts. You could still hear Harry down the call singing “You’ll Be In My Heart” by Phil Collins for the third time. Unlike her brother your 5-year-old daughter was anything but corporative with tonight’s bedtime routine. You decided to go help out your husband before he ends up giving your daughter a full-length concert in her room.
“Amaia, it’s very late and mommy and daddy are very tired. Daddy’s sang to you 3 times already so now its time to sleep, ok?” You said as you leaned your body against the doorframe.
Harry’s large body was curled up on the small stool next to your daughter’s twin bed and you knew that if he stayed there any longer he’d never be able to get up. You watch as Harry gives Amaia a quick kiss to her forehead before tucking her into bed properly. The two of you wish her goodnight before making your way to your bedroom. Harry groaned and threw himself on the bed as you made your way to the bathroom.
“Thanks, darling, think if I sat in that chair for much longer I wasn’t going to be able to move again.” He stated as he arched his back on the bed and got up to go get his pajama pants.
“Well, hopefully, we won’t have any surprise visits tonight. Swear I love them but if one of them has another bad dream at 2 am again I might lose it” you replied back as you made your way back into the bedroom and got into bed.
You laid down against your soft mattress and curled up with your book. Harry got in shortly after with his journal and began to vigorously write. Every once in a while he would stop to look at you but your eyes were glued to the pages so he’d go back to trying to write the new melody him and Mitch had been working on at the studio. It felt like this was the quietest your house had been in months. In between Harry coming and going with album promo and tour prep and you trying to keep of with the kids and your job you felt like this was the first time the both of you had taken a breather.
Just as you were finishing up one of the last chapters of your book Harry decided to close his journal, setting it down on the nightstand so he doesn’t lose it in the sheets again, and wiggle his way over to your side of the bed so he could curl up next to you and lay his head on your chest.
“I missed this” Harry mumbled into your neck as you threaded your fingers through his hair.
“What do you mean, love?” You whispered back as you continued to read your book quietly.
“I mean I miss being able to curl up in bed with you. I miss being able to kiss my babies goodnight and sing Amaia to sleep. I miss driving them to my mom’s on the weekends” he began to list as he took the hand not currently holding your book and kissed your knuckles softly.
“Come on Harry you’ve been here 3 times this week, I’d say that’s pretty good for you” you tried to joke to lighten the mood but Harry wasn’t having it.
“Feel disconnected from our family. Like you guys don’t need me around” he whispered as he squeezed your hand three times.
You froze and quickly put your book down. Harry only ever squeezed your hand 3 times when he had a serious decision he was considering. He did it before his first album release. He did it before he proposed to you. He did it the night he almost broke up with you and he did it the day you got married.
“Love what’s going on?” You asked cautiously as you wrapped your arms around him.
“Think I might not tour the next album. Can’t stand the idea of being away from you all for so long. Haven’t even started it yet and I’m already barely around” he mumbled as he curled into you more.
“Harry you are not canceling the tour. We just spent weeks organizing it with Jeff and the tour manager so that the kids and I can spend the second leg of it with you. What’s bringing this on?” you question.
“Amaia was telling me about her bad dream the other day and how she dreamed that I went on tour and forgot about her and never came back” he replied as he played with your wedding band.
“Harry Edward Styles you know that’s not ever going to happen. You are too good of a person to ever abandon their family and as your wife, you bet your ass I would chase you down if you ever tried. Amaia’s just been going through a bit of a separation problem because one of her friend’s parents just got divorced”
“We’re never getting divorced” he whispered back harshly.
“Easy there tiger, ask me again when I’m 70 and you’ve got wrinkles all over... I’m kidding” you replied back with a chuckle.
Just as Harry was about to let out a sassy snark your bedroom door creaked and a pair of doe eyes and brown curly hair poked into the room.
“Come in, love, what’s wrong?” You asked as you gestured for her to come closer.
Amaia comes to stand right next to your side of the bed as she fiddles with the edge of her pajama shirt.
“Mommy I had a bad dream again” she whispered as she looked at the ground. You sighed and nudged Harry so he would release you so you could tend to your daughter.
“Alright baby why don’t you climb on in for a cuddle, ok? Stay here till you fall asleep and then daddy will bring you back to your room.” You said as she nodded sheepishly and climbed in between you and your husband.
Amaia wiggled around a bit until she was curled up into Harry's side, his arms wrapped tightly around his little girl as he laid soft kisses to her head.
“Don’t worry baby, everything’s fine. You’re safe with us. Go to sleep, love.” He whispered as he began to sing softly in her ear.
You smiled softly as you watched the way Harry held your daughter so carefully, making sure she was comfortable and safe. Amaia's eyes slowly began to droop as Harry continued to sing. Within minutes you could hear her breaths even out as she fell fast asleep.
“We can keep her here for the night, right (y/n)?” Harry asked as he brought the covers higher around his little girl.
“Just for the night, ok?” You whispered back as you shoveled over towards him and placed a delicate kiss on your daughter's head before capturing your husband’s lips.
“I love you” You whispered as you turned off the lamp on your nightstand before curling up next to your daughter.
“I love you too. Both of you” Harry whispered back.

Bathroom
Title: Offical
Alt Title: Bathroom
Warnings: Swearing, Mentions towards abuse, Mention of S.A in a/n. Reader's a smart ass.
Pairings: Harry Hook x Reader
AU: N/A
Disclaimer: i dont own you or the Descendants franchise, i do own the writing.
Rating: 16+
Request: I have a request for Harry Hook! The reader lives on the Isle and Harry is secretly crushing on her. He doesn’t know how to act on his feelings so he makes her believe that he hates her by picking on her every chance he got. That all changes one night when she randomly runs into him and Uma out of breath. She says, “Can I hide in your bathroom? Don’t tell him where I’m at.” After she disappears, her dad walks in, asking them if they’ve seen her. They both keep her cover because they didn’t like how mean and scary he looked. When he left, the reader tells them about her dad being abusive towards her and than Harry confesses. They begin dating and he’s ridiculously overprotective of her.
A/N: Hi! Thank you for requesting this! I love how you knew what you wanted and was very well put in stating it! I chose William Clayton, the dude from Tarzan as good ol' daddy, ykno, since nobody really stays dead with disney. And Willy boi is a piece of shit lmaooo. And our loving adoring mother is Madame Medusa! Hope you enjoy! I did change a few things. Like, i.e, when i tell people my ex used to manipulate, control and s-aed me, i wouldn't want the first thing out of their mouth being "i wouldn't do that to u, i love u." B/c it's inappropriate and not the time and or place for that. So, he waits a year or so to finally say smth, bc escaping abuse takes a long time to get over and it's a lot of healing and being in a relationship immediately afterwards isn't the best thing on what should happen.
(Y/n) sighed, her back pressed against the wall as she picked at the scabs on her knee. "Anyone ever tell you green on you looks atrocious?" Harry asked, an eyebrow raised.
"I've heard, thanks Hook." (Y/N) rolled your eyes.
"(Y/N)! Don't listen to Harry. Your make up looks just fine." Gil tried to make the girl feel better, to no avail.
Looking over at Gil, (Y/N) attempted at a fake smile. "Thanks Gil." She sighed, walking into Ursula's restaurant.
"You know she thinks you hate her?" Gil asked, eating a fry, that he doesn't even know where he got it from.
"That's the point. Keep love at a healthy distance Gilly. 70 feet away."
"That's not healthy."
"Let's not talk about what's healthy and what isn't." Harry quickly fired back, making eye contact with Gil.
Weeks passed and (Y/N) hadn't shown up at work, evidently getting fired, but no word even from that.
"Hey! Has anyone fuckin' seen that shit head who works here?" Harry asked, stabbing the hook into the table. "Business is slow and it's not makin' Harry happy."
"Talking in third person, this can't be good." Gil said, looking over at Uma. "He's just mad he has no one to pick fun at and make miserable." Uma said, taking the hook out of the table. "Get your feet off my table. Were you raised in a damn barn?" Uma chided the angry brunette.
"You know damn well I was."
The doors to the restaurant slammed open as a very disheveled and dirty (Y/N) ran into Uma, near about knocking her over.
"Oh, now you can show up to work?" Uma snapped, but stepped back when she noticed some bruises.
“Can I hide in your bathroom? Don’t tell him where I’m at.”
"Uh, yea sure." Uma pointed her thumb over her shoulder as (Y/N) jolted into the bathroom.
Harry rose an eyebrow as he watched the door slam open again. "Have you seen where she went?" His gruff voice boomed throughout the restaurant.
"Down the alleyway, think she's running the bridge to Auradon." Uma answered before anyone else could.
William Clayton's eyes darted around. "If you see her, tell her she needs to get home." He pushed the doors back open, running to where the bridge is.
"Do we check n-"
"Give it a fucking minute." She waited as the man stormed back in. "I know you're fucking with me, because I know damn well, (Y/N) can't run that far without me catching up."
"Well why ask me if you're so damn sure where she's at?" Uma shot back.
"Listen, Will, we haven't seen the peppy fuck." Harry barked. "Now get on with your night, will ya?"
The overgrown babboon stormed back out.
...
"You can come out now." Uma said outside the bathroom door.
Sighing, (Y/N) walked out. "What kinda shit are you wearing?"
"Fucking clothes Harry, listen I'm not in the mood for your shit tonight. So, if you could and just lighten up on me for 30 goddamn minutes, that would be perfect." (Y/N) huffed.
"Harry, back up." Uma put her arm up, stopping him from taking movements towards her.
"What's been going on?" Gil asked, walking over.
"Listen, shit's hard at home, okay?" (Y/N) spilled. "If William's drunk, it's not good. Alright? He gets violent and think's he's back with the fuckin' gorillas or some shit or calls me it and tries to act like I am. I'm skippin town and going to Auradon." You pointed your finger at the 3 in front of you. "And if any of you say jackshit about anything about it or tell fuck face what I choose to do, I'm coming back and fucking all three of you up." She seethed and ran out of the restaurant.
"Holy shit." Harry mumbled.
"Maybe you should learn to apologize for adding onto her shit." Uma rose an eyebrow towards him, walking off.
...
A year and some months passed after (Y/N) moved to Auradon.
Every child from the isle came over, and boy did she ever-so enjoy the company. Making matters, so much greater, she had Uma for a roomie.
"Do you think Harry's cute?" Uma asked, filing her nails.
"No."
"Seriously?" Uma rose an eyebrow. "He sure does."
"Ha. Sure."
"He does, dude."
"I'm goin' for a walk." (Y/N) put her hair in a ponytail.
...
(Y/N) smiled contently as she walked down the park's pathway, the birds were singing, the flowers were blooming and the grass sure was green.
"(Y/N)! Hi!" Harry ran up to the female as she slowed down, slightly annoyed at the pirate. "You look nice. Did you do something different with your hair?"
"I brushed it." You deadpanned, your pace picking up. "Wait, I… actually want to talk to you." He sighed. "Is it about how for the last six months you've threatened every boy in the vicinity to not date me because they dont 'deserve' me?" You turned around, your arms crossing over your chest.
"Yea.. about that, I.."
"You like me." You finished the sentence for him. "I'm flattered really, never expected you to like me." You chuckled a little, truth be told, you do like him, you're just a stubborn asshole who won't let your guard down.
"What gave it away?" He chuckled nervously. "Everything."
"Well… Do you like me back?" He asked, half expecting you to say no. How could you've liked him? Like you, he was a stubborn dick.
"I enjoy your presence." You winked at him, he returned you with a smile. "So how does being my boyfriend sound? Cute dates and all that cheesy shit?" You rose an eyebrow as you moved your hands to your hips.
"It- really? I mean, yea. That sounds great."
"So… it's official?" Gil asked, poking his head into the conversation.
"Yea," you nodded. "It is."
"And to think, the bathroom made a snowball effect." Gil joked.

Studio Laika
Tumblr media
I was sitting at home and watching films today (probably what a lot of people are doing right now), and I noticed that a lot of my very favorite movies were all stop motion. It creeps some people out the way that the characters move, but I love the look and admire the people who painstakingly create and move each and every aspect of a scene. A one minute scene can take weeks to shoot if it is large scale. Very impressive. Little did I know that the same company made almost all of my favorites.
It is a studio in Oregon named simply Laika that is headed by the cofounder of NIKE, Phil Knight, and his son Travis is the CEO. The work that comes from this place is astounding and every single one of their films is just amazing to me. They have put out 5 feature length films over 10 years and every single one has been nominated for best animated feature by the Oscars, the Golden Globes, the BAFTAs, the Annie Awards, and the Critic’s Choice Awards. These are fantastic films with gorgeous visuals and particularly beautiful soundtracks and should get far more attention than they have.
Here is a little list of all of the movies and I highly suggest checking them out and then checking out the behind the scenes on YouTube.
Tumblr media
Coraline (2009)
I very scary adventure about a little girl that moves into a new shared house and finds a door that transports her to an opposite world. The animation is so flawless and realistic that this film actual gave me nightmares and I was 30 when I saw it. The opposite world is the same kind of set up that I had nightmares about when I was a child. It was so engrossing and the score for the film really brings the viewer into this world. The ending song sounds a lot like the  “Something Wicked This Way Comes” song from the 3rd Harry Potter film but with a much faster pace. In fact...check the song out for yourself.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnIUVHtLC08
And maybe some behind the scenes without spoilers...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXqqd0ZBEMA
The words behind the lead character are voiced by Dakota Fanning and the mother (both of them) is done by Teri Hatcher. The acting behind the title character is especially good and really brings to life this tough little girl in her stunning situation. Highly recommend.
Tumblr media
Paranorman (2012)
This is the story of a young boy who has paranormal abilities and he has to deal with a town and family who are afraid of him while also trying to ward off local ghost activity. Totally relatable. This film actually reminded me more of Monster House (2006) with the idea of a group of kids attempting to bring peace to an angry spirit of some form. The closing song is “Little Ghost” performed by the White Stripes and, although my least favorite closer of the five films, is pretty good. The credit sequence that runs through the characters with the short is like a high quality short on its own.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVWt8SYeNus
And of course some behind-the-scenes B-roll
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJNK_VGOPss
I will say that this is my personal least favorite of the group, but it would still be a 7 or 8 out of 10. The world is great and the characters are fun, but the story wasn’t as interesting to me and it is not as good of a soundtrack. I still very much recommend.
Tumblr media
The Boxtrolls (2014)
I think this is my favorite of the five films for many personal reasons. It is basically the story of Tarzan but put into a world that is similar to an old English village. A young boy dubbed Eggs is raised by trolls and is forced to rejoin human society when he attempts to save his adopted family from a pest exterminator named Archibald Snatcher. Some of my very favorite English actors like Ben Kingsley, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Richard Ayuade all voice characters. It is a coming of age story for 2 or 3 characters at the same time and there are less “good guys and bad guys” and more misguided individuals all trying to find their place. The ending credits are again accompanied by a beautiful song called “Little Boxes” written by Eric Idle. It goes a little something like this...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otJqvGMtqUQ
And some time lapse of a couple characters with a voice over with Richard Ayuade and Nick Frost that is hilarious...

I cannot say enough good things about this film. It has all of the effort and craft of the previous two, but with a better story and less creepiness. A great message for any age and no worry about nightmares (for me anyways).

Kubo and the Two Strings (2016)
This is probably the most beautiful of the Laika films and tells a beautiful story. The one thing that keeps this from being my favorite is a pair of eye-stealing evil sisters. The world is amazing and the voices are fantastic, but this makes the threat of the villains all the more disturbing and there is definitely some nightmare fuel in that. Definitely not like any fairy tale that I was brought up with, and that absolutely makes it better in my eyes. With the current “stay in and stay safe” situation, the beginning will hit close to home. It has the normal gorgeous ending credits with a cover of “As My Guitar Gently Weeps” performed by Regina Spektor. Of course it is here...

And a behind-the-scenes that shows the stop motion with the voice production

This was the best film from Laika on a technical and they were nominated for both Best Animated Feature and Best Visual Effects at the Oscars. Also, this is the best BTS the I could find as it is pretty much spoiler free and has dramatic sewing music.

Missing Link (2019)
This is the most recent film which came out last year and it is the first time that one of the movies did not perform well at the box office. There was little advertising for this film (that I saw) compared to Kubo despite having a bigger budget. The story was not as good and much more predictable than any of the prior films. It did have arguably the biggest name recognition as far as voice actors with Hugh Jackman, Zoe Saldana, Zach Galifianakis, Timothy Olyphant, Steven Fry, and Emma Thompson. The company has made a name having terrific ending credits and this was not different...but I can’t find a version that doesn’t absolutely spoil the ending so I attached the version for Lakeshore Records. It is a song called “Do-Dilly-Do” sung by Walter Martin.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uk377s0gOYg
I is a quick moving song with late 1800s instrumentation with a ragtime feel that actually makes me think of “Kodachrome” by Simon and Garfunkel. And of course so behind the scenes...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k-skE9Loauc
A really great film that was exquisite but not really on the same level as Kubo. I still think it was well worth the watch and it is on Hulu streaming service currently.
I have spent the last couple of years of my movie critiquing life watching older films, but I have not lost sight of the present and all of the great films that are still being created. With all of these fine films from a single studio, my hope for future film making is still great. There work and passion that goes into each film is obvious and should be enjoyed by the masses. I highly recommending taking some time if you are forced to stay in and check out some of these wonderful films. By the way, the name comes from the first dog to go into space on a Russian ship and the first animal to orbit the Earth on the Sputnik 2.

The Happiest Place on Earth (is When We’re Together) Part 2/2
This is technically a late entry for day three of saiou week but since it is legitimately more than four months late, I’m not going to describe it as such. But! It’s a part two of its previous part one-
(In which Shuichi loves everything about Kokichi, from his unbreachable veil of lies, to his annoying, yet somehow unexplainably endearing personality, and everything in between (but he can’t admit it because he thinks Kokichi might be lying about his own feelings towards Shuichi.)
Also, they go to Disney World together! :} :}
Rated T: for crude language and sexual innuendos.)
It’s not the alarm that wakes Shuichi up in the morning…
He’s woken up by a loud, startling, “HAAAAAI-YAAHH!” accompanied by a loud thump, followed by the sensation of pain where his body meets the floor, and then more pain everywhere else as something falls on top of him.
“Uggghh,” a pained moan resonates from above him as a hand pushes him closer to the floor.
Kokichi pushes himself up, still disoriented, and realizes he’s been attacked in his sleep.
He looks up and faces his assailant. “So you think it’s a good idea to disrupt an evil supreme leader’s sleep, huh?” He asks as he gets to his feet, only just realizing Shuichi must’ve been the one to break his fall, since he’s underneath him, and the pain in his own body is concentrated at his stomach where he was kicked instead of anywhere else. “What’s your goal?”
“I should ask you the same thing!” She points at him accusingly. “What were you planning sneaking in our room during the night! Such suspicious behavior is fitting for a degenerate male.”
Shuichi sits up, rubbing his head with a groan. His surroundings tell him that he was pushed off of the bed, blanket and all.
“Nyeh? What time is it?” Himiko raises her head from her pillow, her hair thoroughly tangled from sleep.
Shuichi glances at the digital clock on the night table. “It’s… seven o’clock.”
“Too early,” she mutters before collapsing back on the bed.
Shuichi rubs his eyes and stands to his feet. “We should get ready.”
“First, explain what you were doing in here!” Tenko commands.
“Weeelll, the manager of this resort came by to tell us we had to sleep in this room or they’d kick us all out!” He prattles falsehoods.
Shuichi amends the statement with the truth. “We traded beds with Maki and Kaito.”
Himiko perks up again, “huh? Why would you do that.”
“Miu was trying to fuck Keebo with us in the room!” He exclaims.
“Kokichi, stop lying.” Himiko seems oddly annoyed. It must be because she’s tired.
“Actually, that’s not a lie,” Shuichi assures them.
“What!? Tenko will set them straight!” She proclaims as she swings open the door to the other room and starts scolding them. Shuichi, from his position on the floor, can see Maki packing some knives away into her backpack. He really hopes she doesn’t plan on taking them into the park.
Kokichi shuts the door behind her and the upcoming mayhem, grinning wildly. “Whatcha guys waiting for? We’re going to Disney!”
“Ah...” the detective yawns.
“I wanna go back to sleep…” For her next trick, the magician disappears under the covers.
--
“Hey, that wasn’t too bad. We might not be the first ones on this bus, but we still got seats!” Kaito hits them with some positivity.
Maki’s shockingly awake, and Shuichi never expected she’d be a morning person.
“How the hell do people wake up this early?” Miu asks rhetorically before chugging down a thermos of hot coffee.
Keebo smiles beside her and hands out breakfast snacks that he packed for all of them.
Shuichi takes a granola bar. “Thank you.”
“This doesn’t make up for you’re unforgivable behavior, vermin!” Tenko makes sure he knows that much before grabbing an apple from his hand and furiously wiping it with her shirt before biting it.
Himiko’s sleeping on Tenko’s shoulder, and none of them are convinced she woke up at all to get ready; Tenko carried her to the bus stop, and she hasn’t spoken once.
“Nee-heehee!” Shuichi isn’t sure why Kokichi’s drinking Panta this early, but he is. “Shuichi! Did you download that app I told you about?”
The detective cocks his head to the side, before he remembers. “Ah, yea.”
“Open it up! C’mon.”
So he does; it’s kind of like charades with talking, and there’s a Disney themed category. Kokichi mentioned how it would be a good way to pass time before they visited. He chooses a total of four teams, since there are eight of them, and passes the phone to Kokichi.
“I’m gonna win!”
“Huh?” Kaito looks over.
“We’re all gonna play. Tenko, wake Himiko up or I’ll have Shuichi poison that apple like an evil old lady!”
“I won’t let him!” Tenko fights back.
“I-I wouldn’t do that!” Shuichi waves his hands in front of his face frantically, looking more than a little worried. The outburst, however, does the trick. Himiko slowly blinks her eyes and yawns.
“What is it?”
“We’re gonna play a game, m-kay?” Kokichi grins, showing off his teeth.
“Nyeh, okay.”
“What’re you guys playing?” Miu asks, raising an eyebrow and tucking her thermos away.
“You too! We put it on our forehead and our teammate describes it without saying what it is. If they guess it, tilt the phone down, and tilt up to skip.”
“I don’t trust that you won’t cheat.”
Kokichi sticks out his tongue. “Ugh, fine then, you can go first Harumaki.”
“Don’t call me that.” She glares threateningly as he passes her the phone.
She lifts the phone to her head and the game begins. “Kaito, describe them.”
“Uhhh..” he squints. “Skip that one.”
Keebo opens his mouth to speak, but then he realizes it’s not his turn and keeps quiet.
“Oh! It’s the toy!”
“Hah, I bet you wish it was a sex toy,” Miu remarks.
“Fuck no!” Kaito yells back, before trying to explain. “He’s the space one! To infinity, and beyond!” Kaito puts a fist in the air.
“Buzz Lightyear.”
“Yeah! Oh, that guy’s real strong. He can probably do almost as many push-ups as me.”
“Strong…” Maki furrows her brows. “Hercules.”
“You got it Harumaki. Okay, now this one’s a princess. The one with the yellow dress.”
“Belle.”
“Uhh, this one. Skip it. Okay, another princess. She also wears yellow, I guess…” He scratches his goatee. “Red ribbon, I think, and short hair.”
“Snow White.”
“He’s a duck-”
“Hey! Duck is in the name, degenerate!”
“Oh, fuck, right. Skip.”
“He’s a doll, and he can’t lie. Well, he can lie, um.”
“What..?”
“His nose. It gets longer if he lies. Yeah, that’s it. It’s his nose.”
“Heh.” Miu smirks.
The ex-assassin stares. “I’m skipping.”
“Maki! Oh you know this one-” he begins when there’s a beep.
“Awwww, looks like you’re out of time!” Kokichi grabs the phone and looks at the list of characters. “You guys only got four! Hey Shuichi, put this on your head. We got this.”
 “Right!” Shuichi nods, taking the phone and getting ready.
“Mmm, Shumai, you gotta tilt the phone forward a little.”
“Hah-haha! Pooichi can’t even do it right!”
“One, two, three, go! He’s the monkey in Lion King!”
Shuichi thinks for a moment. “Um… Raf-Rafiki?”
“Yup! Girl Mickey rat!”
“Wh- Minnie Mouse?”
Kokichi nods, “Nee-heehee! It’s Miu!”
“Nnnnnnnn,” Miu squirms in her seat.
“Miu? Kokichi, what?”
“Y’know, Miu. In that famous spaghetti scene from that movie with the dogs.”
Shuichi hesitates, “...Tramp?”
“Right-o! Didn’t know you had it in you Shuichi! Skip!”
“O-okay,” Shuichi stutters.
“Hmmm, Na-na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na-na!” he sings.
“Kokichi…”
“C’mon Shuichi! You can do it. If she doesn’t scare you, then nobody will!” he continues impishly.
“Cruella De Vil...”
“Good job Shumai! Oh! Oh! They’re emo like Shuichi!”
“Kokichi… I already told you I’m not like Eeyore…”
“Nee-heehee, you still got it. His mom was shot!”
“...is this really in a Disney Movie?”
“Yup! Would I lie to you, Shuichi?”
“Yes.”
“He’s a deer!”
“Right, I think I’m gonna skip.”
“Shuiichiii,” Kokichi whines, “you could’ve gotten that one. But skip this one. Hmm, oh, evil lion!”
“Scar!” The detective declares.
“Okay! Last one! Glass shoe!”
“Cinderella.”
“Yeah! Times up! We got seven! I bet no one else can beat that.” He taunts.
“Oh yeah?” Miu challenges, taking the phone and putting it on her head.
 The countdown begins. Keebo frowns. “Um, I don’t know that one. Skip. That one either… Who is Scrooge McDuck?”
“You’re not supposed to say it!” Kaito exclaims.
“But who is it?” Himiko asks. All of them, except for a very focused Miu and Keebo, shrug.
“She’s a small fairy!”
“Scrooge McDuck is a small fairy?”
“No, Keebo is describing the character on Miu’s head.”
“Tinker Bell!” Miu slams her free hand down on her lap. “Hah! I’m a fuckin’ genius!”
“Correct! He is a dog.”
“I’m gonna need more than that babe.”
“My apologies! He is friends with a cat, if I remember correctly.”
“C’monn Keebo, hurry up.” Miu urges.
“He has a birthmark shaped like lightning!”
“Harry Potter?”
“Harry Potter is not a dog, nor is he Disney!”
Wh-what? I got it wrong?” Miu seems shocked as she meekly looks away.
Keebo keeps playing, already accustomed to Miu’s random bouts of timidness. “Skip! She is the significant other of Simba. She… when we watched the movie you said she has bedroom eyes...”
“Hah-hahah! Nala. All you had to say for that one was bedroom eyes. That was all I needed.”
“He was raised by animals!”
“Oooh! Gonta! Hah! I totally nailed it!”
“Gonta is not a Disney character.” Keebo asserts.
“He’s not?!” Kokichi gasps like he’s been lied to his whole life.
“He swings on vines!” Keebo stands to his feet and pounds his fists against his chest. “Aaaaaaa-auaa-aaaaaaah!”
Kokichi boos, “Kee-boooooo! Your time ran out.”
“Wait, Gonta isn’t Tarzan?” Himiko tilts her head skeptically.
Miu takes the phone down and looks over the results, the others peering over.
Kokichi laughs, “You idiots! You only got two!”
“Shut up cuck!”
“Ahahahaaha!”
 “It’s our turn!” Tenko declares. She hands the phone to Himiko and eagerly waits until the mage holds it against her forehead. The round begins.
“In the morning, Himiko is usually…”
“Sleepy,” she answers correctly.
“Skip! A degenerate male that steals bread!”
“Aladdin!”
“She’s an innocent princess that’s defiled in her sleep!”
“Aurora.”
“Another degenerate, this one tries to trick a girl into leaving her parents forever!”
“Nyeh… Peter Pan.”
“Aha! His name describes him perfectly!”
“Beast.”
“She has long, golden hair!”
“Rapunzel.”
“Skip this one! And this one! She saves China!”
“Mulan.”
“The least menacing of all males!”
“The… hunchback, maybe.”
“His full name!”
“Quasimodo!”
“She’s a beautiful native princess that’s manipulated into betraying her people.”
“Pocahontas.”
“She’s a sea witch that tricks a naive mermaid!”
“Ursula.”
“A degenerate talking dog!”
“...Bolt?”
“No, another one!”
“Nyeh?” Himiko tilts her head.
“He’s friends with vermin!”
“It’s goofy!”
“Yes! Skip, ahhh, Himiko, we’re out of time.”
“Nyeh, we couldn’t have lost with my spell casting helping us.” They all glance at the screen, showing eleven correct.
“How did you do that?!” Keebo is astounded. He can’t seem to wrap his head around the fact that he and Miu were only able to answer two correctly.
Himiko’s smile brightens. “With my magic…”
 --
 After making their way through the security check...
  (Kaito was plucked out of the group to pass through the body scan machine, and complained, “Oh come on! I’m the suspicious one?!”
“Of course!” Tenko remarked.
Shuichi took note that Maki was able to successfully smuggle in her weapons. It was a little disconcerting, but the thought of a possible forthcoming lifetime ban from Disney World was a little more disconcerting.)
(Kokichi also begged the seven of them to rent a stroller to push him around in, but sadly, they did not.)
 ...They make their way through the crowd toward Tomorrowland.
 Shuichi had set up fast passes for them in advance, so they would get to do more things with less waiting. Their first one was for Space Mountain, at Kaito’s request. Himiko and Tenko had mentioned that they are not a fan of big roller coasters, so they opted for a fast pass for Peter Pan’s Flight. It isn’t until later though, so they go on line for the race-track ride as the remaining six of them hurry towards the roller coaster.
Kaito’s expressions display his complete captivation with the theme of the ride, and Shuichi can just tell from that, that this is definitely Kaito’s favorite ride. Keebo is appreciating the decoration too. Kokichi is bouncing with excess energy at just riding rides in general, and all the positivity must be rubbing off on Maki; she’s smiling slightly. Miu’s pretty pumped up and isn’t making any profane jokes for the moment. Shuichi is smiling, but at them all; he’s glad to be there with them all.
The Neo-Aikido Master and the self-proclaimed mage meet up with them soon after to go on another ride in Tomorrowland; Maki’s score on the Buzz Lightyear laser shooting ride surpasses the rest of theirs by far, but Kokichi still manages to get in second place, winning against Tenko by a few points.
“Our next fast pass is for Pirates of the Carribean.” Shuichi reads off of his phone.
“Nyeh? Where is that?” Himiko asks, peering over his shoulder.
“Nee-heehee! I say we go this way until we find it!” Kokichi spins around and stops, pointing his finger in a random direction.
“Kokichi! You’re just going to get us lost again. We should stick to the map!”
“Boooring, Keeboy. Are robots only capable of coming up with predictable ideas?”
“I am not a robot!”
Shuichi looks at the map in Keebo’s hands. “It… says it’s this way.” Shuichi points.
“Good job Shumai! Your navigational skills are almost as good as Rantaro’s!” Kokichi praises gleefully.
“Kokichi! You’re doing the same thing I suggested!”
“Hmmm, nope. Shuichi using the map is waaaay different,” Kokichi lies.
“It’s not different at all!” Kaito disagrees, and Kokichi just laughs.
 --
 “This ride is about me!” Kokichi claims from his seat beside Shuichi.
“No one cares,” Himiko drawls, leaning against Tenko, half watching the animatronic pirates sing.
“How is this ride about you?!” Keebo challenges.
“Don’t you know Keebo, I live a secret life as a famous pirate! I am the phantom pirate, king of the seas!”
“That’s a lie!” he accuses from the row of seats behind.
“Yup, now be quiet Keeboy! You’re disrupting the other people on the ride!”
“Kokichi, you’re the one who-!”
Kokichi shushes him, grinning. He subtly scoots closer to Shuichi, but Shuichi still notices it and tries to stop himself from blushing.
Shuichi isn’t stupid. He knows it is fairly likely that Kokichi’s interested in him romantically. His blatant proclamations along with some observed involuntary mannerisms have clued him into that much.
However, Shuichi is a detective, which means he can only make deductions; he knows it’s likely that Kokichi likes him, but he’s not sure. He has known Kokichi for years, and if there’s one thing he’s sure of, it’s that Kokichi Oma is a liar. He can’t risk reciprocating these feelings that Kokichi has been projecting, because he knows that it might be a lie, and if it is a lie, then things would get awkward, and awful, and Shuichi is happy just being next to Kokichi. If being close to Kokichi means that he has to shove down his feelings, then so be it.
 --
 “Fuck it’s hot outside,” Miu states the obvious, fanning herself with her shirt.
Himiko and Tenko approach. “I knew my tracking spell would help us find you guys.”
“Hey,” Kaito greets them, “we’re about to go on the Haunted Mansion.”
“Ooooo, sounds exciting!” Tenko chirps while Himiko nods with a smile.
 --
 As they get wait to get inside the elevator of the Haunted Mansion ride, Kokichi speaks up, “Hey Kaito, guess what?”
“What?”
“A whole buuuunch of riders actually died on this very ride ten years ago! People say their ghosts haunt the ride and mess with the seats! Workers even claim that some of the decorations aren’t just fake projections, but real ghosts!”
“Wh-wh-what?!” Kaito screeches, clinging to Maki, who returns Kokichi’s claim with a glare.
Miu guffaws, “hah! That’s bullshit.”
“Kokichi, everyone knows you’re lying!” Keebo points at him.
Kaito crosses his arms and avoids eye contact. “...yeah, you’re obviously lying.”
Kokichi grins, “are you sure?”
(Maki starts glaring even more than usual at Kokichi after she finally gets Kaito to stop screaming about the “definitely real” ghosts)
 --
 They’re strolling through Fantasyland after eating something for lunch.
“Hey,” Kaito walks back from where he was walking ahead with Maki, “we’re about to go on, uh… the teacups.” He points towards the Wonderland-themed ride.
“It’s a mad tea party!” Kokichi grins.
“Me and Keebo are gonna go on Splash Mountain instead.”
“Isn’t the wait for that, two hours?” Shuichi inquires.
“Yeah? So? ...I just wanna get soaked.”
There’s a relative groan of annoyance at the innuendo.
“We’ll meet you guys at Cosmic Ray’s after,” she informs them, remembering the name from Kaito when he was talking about where he could get a burger.
 --
 “Wheeee! Shuichi, isn’t this fun?”
“Kokichi, could you please slow down?” Shuichi doesn’t mind going fast, but this is… very fast. He’d like to go a little bit slower, at least.
“Hmmm, fine, but only for you, my beloved.” Kokichi smiles wide.
Shuichi’s cheeks turn pink.
“Oh for fuck’s sake.” Kaito groans from beside them. Tenko wanted all the girls to go in one teacup, and since the teacups are two to three per cup, it worked out pretty well… for them.
As soon as they get out from under the hood of the teacup ride, rain starts pouring down.
“Shit,” Kaito mutters.
“Of course you degenerate males wouldn’t come prepared! Luckily, me and Himiko came prepared!” She reaches into the magician’s small backpack and pulls out some rain ponchos.
“Tada!” Himiko proclaims, “eight magic ponchos for all of us.” She hands them out to the group.
“Too bad Miu and Keebo aren’t here to use them.”
“Nee-heehee! Guess they’re getting soaked after all!”
 --
 Eventually, after some more walking and shopping around, they find solace from the rain at the restaurant Kaito insisted they all go to for dinner. Shuichi remembers him mumbling something about the “full Tomorrowland experience” or whatever that means. It works out alright though, since Kaito gets his burger, and the rest of them get to sit down. It’s still pretty early for dinner, but they plan to make it back to the hotel to rest so they can be back and more awake for the fireworks.
They’ve all got a booth to themselves, which is good because that means no one besides the five of them has to witness Kaito inhaling his burger unless they look his way. It also means no one can hear Tenko when she scolds him for his lack of manners.
“Shuichi! Feed me a fry!”
Shuichi blushes but picks up a fry and lowers it towards Kokichi’s head as it rests in his lap. “Please don’t choke Kokichi.”
“I’m the supreme leader of an evil organization! You think eating while laying down could kill me? No way!” He insists, inching up towards the fried potato.
“If you’re sure…” Shuichi trails off as Kokichi eats the french fry.
He prattles on after chewing, “I’m the king and Shuichi is my servant! Nee-heehee-ouch!”
Kaito snorts, food in his mouth as he asks, “did you just bump your head on the table?”
Kokichi sits up from Shuichi’s lap, rubbing his forehead. “Of course not, I just bypassed an assassination attempt. Because of my invisible helmet, Harumaki’s blow to my head only gave me a teensy headache,” he lies, adding hand gestures to emphasize.
“That’s a lie,” Maki calls him out this time, wiping her mouth with a napkin. “If I were to attempt to take your life, you wouldn’t survive,” she assures him.
“Awwww, does that mean Harumaki doesn’t actually hate me after all?” Kokichi tilts his head, his voice teasing.
“Don’t push it.” Her expression is deadpan.
“Do you want me to feed you a fry, Himiko?” Tenko tilts her head, holding up the offered fry.
“Nyeh… I’m okay.” Himiko bites into her burger.
“Okay!” Tenko smiles. “So how was everyone else’s time while we were gone? Hopefully not getting into too much trouble.”
“Nee-heehee, what else can you expect from an evil leader like me?” His grin broadens. “Keebo screamed like a little kid on the rollercoaster! Too bad you missed it!” Kokichi teases.
“What time is it?” Kaito asks, looking towards Maki as she sips her water.
She reaches into her backpack and checks her phone. “It’s five-ten.”
“Hey fuckers,” Miu greets as she walks up to their table with her tray alongside a very wet and sulking Keebo.
“Miu! You’re shirt’s see-through!” Kaito yells reproachfully.
“Heeeeee!” Miu covers herself. “Well don’t look perv…” she mumbles as she sits down meekly.
“I didn’t know Keeboy was water-proof!” Kokichi changes the subject with faux surprise.
“Kokichi, we have been in the pool at the same time!”
 --
 They get back into the park around eight-thirty, a little more awake than before.
“Shouldn’t we just go back to the hotel? It’s still raining…”
“Not before the fireworks Keeboy! I wanna see things explode!” Kokichi exclaims.
Keebo and Miu have rain ponchos on now too, not that it’s making much of a difference since they ran from the buses without them.
They all try to navigate through the crowd in front of the castle to find the best place to see the fireworks from as possible. It’s not very full, since it’s still raining, but a decent crowd has decided to stick around.
The rain turns to drizzles as the show begins.
Shuichi looks at Kokichi’s face light up in amazement while watching the firework show and feels warm inside.
 --
 They go on a few other rides they weren’t able to get to earlier. (One of them is called Astro Orbiter and they ride it mainly for Kaito.)
They’re sort of just roaming around when Miu halts the group in their steps. “I gotta go on jungle cruise. I sorta told Gonta I’d get some pictures of the animals... C’mon Keebo.”
“Okay!” Keebo nods.
For some reason, this prompts Maki and Kaito to converse amongst themselves before approaching Shuichi. “We’re gonna head back. Y’know what they say: early to bed and early to rise.” Kaito pats Shuichi on the back and gives him a wink… for… some reason.
“Ah, okay.”
“Have fun, we’ll see you later…” Maki smiles as they head towards the exit, four remaining.
“Are you tired yet Kokichi?” Shuichi asks.
“Who needs sleep when you can stay up late and wake up early in the morning?”
“...”
“But, I was more tired earlier. Taking a nap with Shuichi made me much more awake! I’m ready to ride more rides!”
Shuichi smiles at that. He doesn’t want the leader to push himself too hard. He’s experienced Kokichi completely shutting down because of a lack of sleep. Shuichi has struggled with insomnia too, but Kokichi isn’t able to sleep in like he can. The other normally wakes up early regardless of when he goes to sleep.
“Let me know if you get tired Shumai! I wouldn’t want my beloved to lie just for my sake. I hate liars, you know.”
Shuichi nods, “I’m alright for now. I think we can stay a little bit longer.”
Himiko then speaks up, “Hey. We’re going to watch Mickey’s Magic Show. Do you wanna come with us?”
“Sounds like fun!” Kokichi grips his hand, racing ahead of the other two. Tenko seems to take that as a personal challenge, so she lifts Himiko for a piggy-back ride and chases them.
 --
 Himiko pulls a blanket out of her backpack once they get into the waiting room for the show; none of them are sure why or when she brought it but the air-conditioned room is pretty cold and the air outside is beginning to cool down because of the season. At least it stopped raining.
“It’s a cape, because I’m a mage,” she says, but the fleecy crescent moons and clouds on it say differently.
 --
 Shuichi and Kokichi had already decided they would ride Thunder Mountain next. Well, Kokichi decided, and Shuichi quickly agreed.
Tenko knows Himiko won’t want to ride anything that high up, so she suggests a less intense alternative. “We never got to ride Mine Train Himiko! Do you want to go before the park closes?” Tenko remembers that Himiko wanted to at least try riding Seven Dwarves’ Mine Train.
“Nyeh… but isn’t the wait still really long?”
“It might be, but we can check!”
“Okay. After Mine Train let’s leave right away. My feet hurt, and my MP is too low to cast a health recovery spell.”
Himiko and Tenko set out towards the ride.
And then there were two.
 --
 The line for Thunder Mountain Railroad isn’t unreasonably long, but it’s definitely not quiet either.
Kokichi has his arms up the whole time, and even though Shuichi is gripping the safety bar for dear life during the sudden turns, his eyes are wide open, and there’s a rush of adrenaline going through him. It’s not an intense roller coaster by any means, but the wind on their faces and the loud crackle of the tracks makes it exciting. After, Kokichi pulls him by the hand towards Adventureland and Shuichi smiles the whole way there.
 --
 In the last few minutes before the park closes they make it back to Pirates of the Carribean again, for the last ride of the night. Now that it’s just the two of them, it feels somehow different from when they were in a group.
“Shuichi, we need to talk.” The boat has begun to move along its track in the water, the false night sky of the ride seeming so realistic overhead.
Shuichi’s eyes widen. “Ah, what would you like to talk about?”
“Do you like me?”
Eyebrows raise, “of-of course.”
Kokichi rolls his eyes, “C’mon Shuichi. I know you’re not that dense.” He pauses. “What I mean is, how do you feel about me, as more than a friend?”
“O-oh,” Shuichi stammers, feeling his face preheating like an oven.
Kokichi leans forward expectantly. “So?”
“Um… I like you, Kokichi.”
An involuntary smile appears on the leader’s face. “Good, me too.”
Shuichi smiles back.
“So let’s make it official.” Kokichi says, looking ahead instead of into Shuichi’s eyes as he laces their fingers together.
“I’d like that.” Shuichi smiles lovingly as he leans over to press his lips to Kokichi’s cheek.
Even though it’s a little dark in the ride, Shuichi can still see Kokichi’s blush. It’s really cute, he notices, but then Kokichi’s facing him again, and he sees a searching look in those purple eyes that’s even more cute. Shuichi nods, and Kokichi takes the opportunity to grab onto Shuichi’s shirt and pull him closer until their lips meet.
It’s nothing crazy, just a soft press of lips against one another with that yo-ho pirate song echoing in the background, but it makes the two of them feel really warm and giddy. The seriousness of the moment is stopped quickly, since Kokichi can’t help himself from grinning. It sort of stops the kiss, but he can’t help it; he’s suddenly so full of energy, and he just can’t stop smiling. Shuichi opens his eyes and seeing Kokichi makes him smile too. It’s like their cheeks are stuck like that, but neither of them really mind.
As they’re getting off of the ride, Shuichi speaks up, a million little thoughts going through his head, “maybe we shouldn’t say anything to the others yet.”
“Why not? Are you ashamed of me?” Crocodile tears well up in his eyes.
Shuichi shakes his head. “No, I just think that Tenko would be less willing to share a room with us if she knew we are together.”
“Nee-heehee, so devious Shuichi. I think I’m rubbing off on you.”
“Maybe…”
 --
  (They don’t make it back to the hotel until midnight because of the long bus wait. Himiko texted them to warn them, but by the time they get there the line is already long and they have to wait for two buses to depart before finally getting on the third one. But, as they sit down in the seats and Kokichi falls asleep leaning against Shuichi’s shoulder, he finds that he doesn’t mind too much.)

Nobody
Pairing - Harry Hook x Reader
Rating - PG
Warning - None
———Harry POV———
I run from Chad and his goons, straight into a room full of books. Me, Gil, and Uma just came to Auradon a few weeks ago. We’re settleing in nicely except for the small amount of times I get in tuffles with Chad. I watch as they run past. There’s a sign that says, ‘Library’. Gil was telling me about this. A place to read books.
I look around and I see an adult behind a counter. The rest looks empty. That is until I see a girl curled up in the corner on top of pillows reading a book. I sneak a little closer mesmerized by the mystery girl. I go into the aisle next to her and look down. She doesn’t seem to know I’m here. She’s far too engrossed in her book. I stand there for a few more minutes before I have to go meet up with Uma.
I go back the next day and the day after that and the day after that. Sometimes a few other people are there but everyday the mystery girl sits in her corner and reads. It’s a different book everyday. Today I decide I would talk to her.
I walk over to her and sit down, criss cross. “‘ello.” I say. “Hello.” She replies still not looking up. “Me names.” I start but she cuts me off by saying. “Harry, son of Captain Hook.” I must look bewildered because she continues. “The girls talk about the guy with the thick Scottish accent. You have a thick Scottish accent and your the only one on the school except for the daughter of Merida.” She says still reading. “And Who are ya?” I press. “A nobody.” She says simply. “Everyone’s somebody.” I say.
“My name is (Y/N). Daughter of Jane and Tarzan.” She says. “Cool.” “You can either sit, read, and be quiet or leave.” She tells me. “I’ll read.” I say. “Read this one it’s one of my favorites.” She says handing me a book from beside her that says Harry Potter. I’ve been going to the library for the past week and just reading. I’m on the second Harry Potter book and I love it.
(Y/N) and I talk occasionally. She even help me get a library card. I checked out Harry Potter so I can read it in my room. I’m currently going to lunch. I have my book under my arm and a tray in hand. “Hi guys. Do you want to sit with us?” Evie asks coming up to Uma, Gil, and me. Before we could answer Evie pulls Uma by the hand. Me and Gil follow them. Soon we’re all seated by the other VKs and there partners.
It’s quit awkward. Soon Ben breaks the silence by asking me, “What book are you reading?” “Harry Potter.” I say simply. That’s when Uma pops in. “You can read?” She asks. I just nod my head. I then look at the time. I have a free period and I wanted to go see (Y/N). She also happens to have a free period. “Well I have to go.” I say standing up. “Where are you going?” Gil asks. “The library.” I say. “Your going to the library?” Mal asks suspicious. I just nod, leaving.
As I’m on my way, I see Audrey picking on someone. As I walk closer and I hear Audrey ask, “Where are you going, probably just to the library we’re trash belongs.” Audrey taunts. The people behind her laugh. “Yes, I am going to the library now could you please excuse me.” The girl requests nicely. Wait I know that voice, it’s (Y/N). “I don’t think so, why don’t you just go back to the jungle.” Audrey says with a laugh. As (Y/N) tries to move Audrey pushes her.
“I think you should leave the lass alone.” I say startling them. “Yeah sure Harry.” Audrey says twirling her hair. I go past her and up to help her up. “Are you ok, love?” I ask. She nods her head and goes to leave. I catch up to her and say, “You can’t get rid of me that easily.” I say. “What do you want Harry?” She asks stopping in her tracks. “I want to talk, love. We’re friends and I want to know if your ok.” I say putting my hand on her shoulder.
“Stop lying to me. You don’t want to be my friend.” She says quietly. “Don’t listen to Audrey. She’s a stuck up bi-brat.” I say catching my cuss. “Let’s go have some fun. Not that spending time at the library with you is not fun but we have a free period let’s go outside.” I say. She nods her head her pretty smile going back on her face.
“I heard the forest is cool we should go there.” I recommend. “Ok.” She says simply. We get there. “Have you been here?” I ask her as we get to the edge of the forest. “I love the forest.” She tells me walking in. “Come on I’ll race you to the top of that tree.” She says putting her stuff down. “Are you sure, love, that looks dangerous.” I say wearily. “Don’t be a baby. Fine I’ll climb it by myself.” She says quickly climbing the tree. “Woah. Good job.” I say in awe.
“What did you expect, my fathers Tarzan.” She says. It becomes a tradition. Once a week during free class, we go and do something different. It’s been about a month and all my free time is either with (Y/N) or Uma and Gil. We even sit with the other VKs for lunch.
I was walking to lunch when I saw (Y/N). I immediately went up to her and asks, “Where are you going, darlin’?” She looks up from her book with a smile. “I was just heading to the library.” “What about lunch?” I ask confused. “I have a stash of snacks in the library emended under a loose floor bored.” She says leaving in like she’s telling a secret. “Why don’t you come and eat lunch with me and my friends.” I offer “No I couldnt impose.” She says trying to slip away. I grab her hand and pull her towards the cafeteria.
“I think I should just go back to the library.” (Y/N) says trying to pull away. She couldn’t get out of my grip though. “Nah, You can’t stay in the library all ya life. Come on there nice they’ll like you.” I tell her almost at the table. “Who’s this?” Evie asks comeing up from behind us. (Y/N) squeaks and hides behind me gripping my hand. “This is (Y/N). She’s going to sit with us at lunch. She’s a little shy.” I whisper the last part. (Y/N) must have heard because she slaps my shoulder
“What? It’s true.” I say in defense. “Well nice to meet you (Y/N). I’m Evie.” Evie says. (Y/N) slightly smiles and hides herself behind me. “Love your so small I don’t think they would see ya even if you weren’t hiding behind me.” I tell her with a laugh. “I’m not small l. 5’2.” She says quietly. “Come on.” I say following Evie to the table.
“Hi guys, this is (Y/N).” I say pushing her in front of me. A chorus of hellos sound from the table. (Y/N) only slightly waves. “She’s going to sit with us today.” I say pushing her more. “Actually I think I’ll go to the library. You know I need to read this uh... book.” She says trying to leave. “Nice try, love, but no.” I say pushing her into a seat. I sit her next to Mal and I sit on the other side. “I haven’t seen you around (Y/N).” Mal says. “Oh. I spend most of my time in the library, but we have 3 classes together.” She says quietly.
“We do?” Mal asks. “Yeah. English, Algebra, and Intro to Living Enviorment.” I tell her. “Huh, really? Sorry, I didn’t know.” Mal says with a small smile. “Oh, it’s no problem, I sit in the back and don’t really talk.” She says probably making sure Mal doesn’t feel bad. Uma’s on my other side. “Uhhhh! I can’t figure out this homework.” She complains. (Y/N) peaks over and says, “The answer is g(56)+897x. At least I believe it is but go with whatever you think.” Uma looks at her with shock. “That’s right. How did you do that you barely even looked at the equation.” (Y/N) just slightly shrugged. “Harry, I like her. Bring her around more often.”
The rest of the lunch was filled with everyone trying to talk to (Y/N). She didn’t not talk to them but everything she said was short and quiet. When the bell rang I walk (Y/N) to her classroom. “They liked ya, lass.” I tell her as we walk. “It was nice.” She says. “You should join us tomorrow.” I say bumping her shoulder. “No. I’m going back to the library tomorrow.” She says while I sigh. “As much as I love being friends with you. I think you need a few more because books don’t count.” I tell her. “I’m fine with the friends I have.” She says before walking into her classroom.
(Y/N) actually did end up sitting with us at lunch for a whole two weeks that is until one day she just didn’t show up to school. I asked all the VKs if they saw her, I went to the library, and Mal told me she didn’t show up to the classes they had together. I then went to her dorm room. I mean (Y/N) never told me where her dorm was but I followed her one day. I even know she keeps a spare key on top of the door frame. I grab the key and open the door.
(Y/N) looks towards me as the door opens. There are tears streaming down her face. “Oh, Honey.” I say walking towards her. I sit down on her bed next to her. “Come on, love, tell me what’s wrong.” I say pulling her close to me into a hug. She stays quiet. “Don’t let Audrey get in your head.” I tell her. “Why dont you go hang out with your friends. Don’t get roped into my problems, I’m just a nobody.” She says quietly. I pull her back so I can see her face. “You are a sombody. Your my somebody.” I tell her. Then I do something I love wanted to do for a while. I lean in and kiss her.

Okay. My issues & fave things for Frozen 2 - Masterpost.
Spoilers and negativity beyond the cut. But also positivity! Cause I did like some things.
- The Negatives -
1. I have serious qualms about the notion that Elsa doesn’t feel like she “belongs” in Arendelle. With her sister. And the family they built. The reason for this is simple. Every single piece of canon that has ever been produced by this franchise has said otherwise. They were separated 10 years (ish). They never wanted to be apart again. As recently as TWO YEARS ago (probably not that long in the movie timeline) Disney produced a short emphasizing their built family, and how home is wherever Anna is. Olaf gets lost in the woods, the wilderness, and they have to go find him because they all belong together. Elsa shows literally no interest in the woods nor being in the wilderness. She then proceeds to sing “When We’re Together” with Anna, and sings this TO Anna:
Tumblr media
It frankly feels to me like they forgot what this franchise was all about and the foundations that they have been building it on. Elsa and Anna. Together. The way they have written these characters, to me, is not convincing that they would EVER wish to separate.
You can argue to me that “Elsa isn’t that far away”. Yes, that is true. She could ice luge down the hill and see Anna and the fam. But you know what else wasn’t that far away? Elsa’s room. Separate is separate. Living with someone with no shut doors and not living with someone but visiting sometimes is not the same. And the characters have stated several times across four releases of visual media and COUNTLESS Disney produced merch that they do not wish to separate. Ever. It’s not just how it has been written.
Now,  I can understand the idea that they were trying to communicate that Elsa was feeling unfulfilled, but it is 100% contradictory with every other piece of literature about this story they have put out, so to me, it made no sense character arc wise. It  was too sudden for it to come up right now, rushed in an opening song for the final movie. Olaf’s Frozen Adventure didn’t come out that long ago, so to me this feels like a complete 180.
Perhaps what they were trying to say in this movie is that if Elsa didn’t leave, Anna would never allow herself to have a fucking life. You can see this possibly in the scene where Anna leaves with Kristoff without saying anything, and trying to insist on coming with Elsa even if it’s pretty clear she would be in serious danger. You can also see this a bit in the lyrics to “The Next Right Thing”:
“I follow you around I always have But you've gone to a place I cannot find”
“I don't know anymore what is true I can't find my direction, I'm all alone The only star that guided me was you How to rise from the floor When it's not you I'm rising for?”
Anna does put Elsa before anyone and anything else, even herself. But if THAT is what they are trying to say, they are basically saying Anna and Elsa’s relationship is and has been toxic, or having toxic qualities, and that’s really saying fucked up shit about the whole franchise. Especially because there are so many fans out there who really connected with that aspect of Frozen.
2. I am, quite frankly, really TIRED of the trope that powerful magical women *can’t* be queens. Because they don’t “belong”, because they are “out of touch”, because they need to leave, they need to die (*cough* Daenerys Targaryen), or that they were “mad” or not good for society. That their strength is too much for them to be in society or be a queen. I think it’s quite empowering that Elsa feels free, but I do not like the concept that she couldn’t feel free and be a good queen. That she abdicated and basically rolled out, extremely rushed and in a moment where a lot was already happening. It’s like her being queen in the first place wasn’t even important. And no, she is NOT queen of the Northumbra (I will go into this assertion in my next bulletpoint).  You aren't just automatically queen of something when you aren't coronated or acknowledged by who you are ruling as such in any fashion.  I highly doubt the Native population would make some white girl they just met their queen. Elsa stepped down, and she is now a liaison between the enchanted forest and Arendelle. She’s an ambassador, and Anna is now Queen. Which, if we took the implications out of it, would be fine. I don’t dislike Anna. She’s grown so much, she’d be a wonderful queen. I just think Elsa should still be queen. Elsa can still be a liaison between the realms. Who better to be queen than a woman who is a liaison and has the interests of Arendelle, the Enchanted Forest, and the elements? You can tell me “She didn’t want to be Queen!” as much as you want, but lets get really into the facts here. She suddenly “didn’t want to be queen” because she was written that way. It could have been written differently and would have been in character.
It bothered me so much that Disney Parks thought it was a good idea for the face characters in the parks to come out in the final outfits literally ONE DAY before the movie came out. I had this plot aspect spoiled to me (and I’m not in the spoiler culture but that was a really big plot point to spoil so lets get real here, I’m allowed to be upset) because people posted pictures of Anna in her crown with the tags # Queen Anna, before the movie was even released. I immediately didn’t like it, but I wanted to try and stay positive that it would be convincing, but it honestly just continued to rub me wrong. It feels like they were trying to get cheap “YAS KWEEN” moments for both the Elsa fandom and the Anna fandom, and I felt like it was empty and unnecessary. Anna is a badass regardless. She didn’t need that for a “YAS KWEEN” moment. She has quite a few incredible, powerful, and strong AF moments. I  love her without that.
3. I mentioned in point 2 that “Elsa is not queen of the Northumbra.” The reason I mentioned that is because a friend of mine thought that and was confused. Which brings me to my 3rd point. The mythology and plot that they constructed for this movie was extremely confusing, didn’t explain enough, and had too many plot-holes. That friend and a few of the people she saw the movie with thought Queen Iduna was Queen of the Northumbra. She wasn’t. Another thought she had wind powers. She doesn’t. She was just playing in the wind elemental when Agnarr saw her.
Some more questions:
Did literally none of the Northumbra know their chief was murdered?! Why wasn’t that ever brought up if they did now, and if they didn’t, why didn’t they remember?
How did the kingdom of Arendelle not realize what sea Queen Iduna and King Agnarr were sailing to? Why would this have never come up before? Oh, Anna and Elsa, your parents were on the way to Rapunzel’s wedding or Tarzan world, but then turned around and set sail on this completely separate, very dangerous sea and we never told you. This, to me, is why the movie was poorly written, no one has any fucking idea what actually happened in some scenes.
4. Speaking of Queen Iduna, if she is Northumbra, and she is used to being around elemental magic ALL THE TIME, why did she react to Elsa’s powers at first the way she did? Why did she interpret the troll’s advice the way she did? WHy did she support and enable Elsa’s father shutting her up and away when she know’s first hand the elementals were good and what those powers could do?
And like the whole movie was supposed to be why Elsa had magic and I still have no idea. That was not explained well. She's the 5th element? Ice isn't an element. Ice is water. If she’s an element, is she going to die? Or when Anna dies is she going to live forever as an elemental-human hybrid wandering the woods sobbing like Arwen Undomiel was cautioned of? Is it was because her mom saved her dad, linking the two nations? Her good deed gave her power? Like Harry Potter? Okay, but why ice specifically. Anna said that Elsa was “the last piece”. But of what? Of the elements? Again, ice isn’t an element. Ice is water. Water was covered. Was it because she had to right the wrong of the grandfather building the dam and killing the chief of Northumbra? But Anna destroyed the dam with the elementals. Was it so she could find out the truth about what happened? She could have done that without ice powers. Why was it ice? What was the significance of the cave Alhalla (Alhambra?)? Why could she only find out the answers there? Why are we supposed to believe Elsa wants to routinely hang out in a secluded ice cave that is a huge downgrade from her awesome ice castle instead of being with her sister? Is it cause her mother is there? Who is family? So why can’t she lie with Anna, her other family, and visit the cave when she wishes?
The concept of elements and Elsa having some sort of relationship to it, the IDEA is so good, I just was seriously disappointed in how it was executed. I think the only explanation we have here is: “the spirits gave her her powers to unite everyone." And that wasn’t enough for me. WHY ICE THO. 5. I did not, at all, in any way, like when Elsa saw that memory of her singing “Let It Go” and was like, embarrassed of it? Like, “Oh my godddd I did that, how EMBARRASSING....”......That moment means so much to a lot of people, and I felt like that was really OOC and kinda disrespectful. That song is an anthem for people with mental issues and people in the LGBTQ community and it just felt wrong to me. Did NOT like that.
6. I really really wish that Anna x Kristoff AND Anna x Elsa had a longer duet than what was in “Some Things Never Change” and the lullaby reprise. Their voices together are BEAUTIFUL. I think it a missed opportunity, especially when reunited with Elsa and Kristoff. Anna could have had a brief duet with Elsa, and then with Kristoff when he proposes, and then they all sing together for a finale into Anna’s coronation. I am aware there is a duet with Anna and Kristoff in the Delue edition but the version is pretty rough and, it didn’t make it into the film so I’m not counting it.
- The Positives -
1. The character development. I must confess that I was not a Frozen fan when it first came out. I think I saw it, wasn’t too impressed, then went to Walt Disney World in December 2014, became so over-saturated with Frozen fever literally taking over EVERYTHING, that I became annoyed and resistant. I did re-watch it several times months later to try and get back on board, but I always felt like the plot in the middle was weak, meandered with no purpose, and the whole “Anna wasn’t saved by a man” (which she was. She wouldn’t have gotten to Elsa at all without Kristoff. She would have died in the snow) was less powerful because everyone was acting like Brave didn’t happen. Like it was the first movie to have someone saved by true love through someone other than a love interest. But I’m not re-visiting that shit, I just wanna enjoy Frozen for what it is and gave me positively, which is what I’m gonna do with Frozen 2 when I cathartically post this. The reason I’m going into this is because, I wasn’t expecting strong writing with the plot of Frozen 2, because of the precedent set. But I was SO excited, so HYPE, I literally went day after opening. One thing  I WAS expecting the themes to remain true to the franchise, but we won’t discuss that again. I grew to love Elsa deeply through my own struggle with mental illness (anxiety, depression, adhd). Apparently I have a lot in common with her too. Consuming her in other forms (Frozen on Broadway, Once Upon a Time, meeting her in the Parks) deepened her character and made her more understandable. And Anna. OOF. Was not a fan at all. But I LOVE her now too.  And in this movie. WOW. They were so amazing and rich, and brave, badass, strong, flawed, relatable, and the GROWTH. The way they reacted to things, even if I didn’t like most plot points, was done so well. It really felt like them even though a huge growth jump happened. I could see how they got from A to B. The character writing (other than the things mentioned earlier) was very strong and I’m proud to say I love them so much more after this movie.
2. The music. I have never particularly liked Idina’s voice but she sounds SO amazing, unique, memorable, emotional, vulnerable, and open in both of her songs.
“Show Me” is personally my favorite, and that whole sequence was just fucking breath-taking, the message so special. Seeing her break down all her walls during that song journey was one of the best parts of the movie. I’ve been dealing with A LOT lately, and this song really just made me feel like things might work out if I continue to be strong and believe in myself, if only for a few minutes.
“Into the Unknown” was such a great tease as being the best Elsa song, and I love that they added that wacky Norwegian singer Aurora in there. I just didn’t particularly like some of the lyrics about Elsa feeling like she didn’t belong. Explained above.
Olaf’s “This is Fine” song had me smiling so big and is quite literally an eternal mood. *insert Brooklyn 99 “I’m such a Samantha”.gif* “Some Things Never Change” was a great intro song, I love when the 4 get to duet together, though some of Elsa’s lyrics, again, not a fan.
Anna’s song, despite the things mentioned above, was honestly the most powerful song to me. It’s not something that makes me feel good, or something I will be able to listen to often. But, as someone who struggles with depression and finding the motivation to do anything when something scary or terrible happens, this song was so sososososoosososoososo fucking important to hear. I was crying. I started crying when Olaf poofed and I kept crying through this song.
But by far, the greatest part of this movie, was Kristoff’s 90′s Poison-inspired power ballad. I was fucking CRYING with laughter. SO so good. I have been waiting for a song for Jonathan Groff and this was NOT a disappointment. The backup singers. The imagery! THE BACKUP SINGERS.
3. The beauty. It was just beautiful. Like I don’t know what else to say. The animation was gorgeous. Stunning. I’m in awe.
Other things:
- Olaf giving the recap to the Northumbra
- THAT scene with Anna and Olaf
- Elsa’s hair journey
- ELSAMAREN RIGHTS
- ELSA TAMING THE NOKK
-  When Kristoff finally proposes
- KRISTOFF’S FINAL LOOK. A WHOLE SNACK.
- BRUNI. BRUNI IS BABY.
- The fact that Elsa’s sexuality was left open ended, with the possibility for Elsamaren to be a thing. If they couldn’t outright make her gay, I think this was a good way to keep everyone happy. You could really continue her story anywhere.
Like I said earlier, I’m gonna get over this super fast. It’s Disney, and I’m not trying to get all riled up for months like I did over some TRULY terrible writing. I just wanted to get my annoyances out. I’ve already listened to this soundtrack 6 times in a row, have learned the lyrics to show yourself, and am almost in the mood to see it again. Maybe in a little bit.
Anyways, THAT IS ALL OF IT FOR NOW. I may add more BS later. If  you disagree, that’s fine, but I’m not really going to fight with people about this. I just wanted to get my thoughts out and reach out to other people who were maybe a little disappointed.

Miiiles, how are you? I'm sure you've had a bunch of people asking this lately but how's your fic going? Do you have a posting date planned? 👀 I'm so excited and absolutely would love if you could talk a bit about your inspiration, your characters, what you hope people feel with this story... If you don't want to it's fine but I just get so excited for the authors when I know they've got a good one coming 🥺 I love to know the thought process behind it.
This has been in my inbox for so long, and I apologize for the extremely late response! Haha, yes, most of the messages I get are in regards to my Tarzan au, but some are super pushy, so I just delete them because they aren’t the nicest. Yours was very polite, and I’ll be happy to answer. I’ve pushed my fic back so many times that I don’t want to post a date yet till I’m close to being done with it because I don’t want to disappoint if I don’t get it done by the date I said. With everything happening, I’ve started to write a bit more, but I still have quite a bit to go.
I think most of the inspo for this fic is how similar Tarzan and Harry look alike and how alike I find Jane and Louis to be. Plenty of content creators made Tarzan inspired art and gifset that it made me want to write one. Also, we’ve seen how gentle and soft Louis is with a chimp (and all sorts of animals in general) that I just really wanted to write this au.
I hope people feel some sort of adventure and nostalgia when reading this. It’s not going to be the exact same as the Disney version (I plan for it to be more like the actual story), but I will throw some Disney eggs here and there to make people smile. I just really hope to get it out soon. Especially during these hard times. I’d love to brighten people’s day with this fic 💚

Winner’s Curse Ch. 14
“Everyone calm down, everyone calm down, King Ben will be here soon.” Ben heard Evie warily shush into the microphone, trying to quiet the agitated crowd in the auditorium.
Ben hurriedly tried to straighten his collar which only got mussed further by his frantic hands, butterflies were alreayd beating furiously in his stomach at the thought of trying to convince this mob that there was no time to beat around the bush and bring Villain children four at time every year or so. They needed to bring them all over now. It was the right thing to do.
All without mentioning the current Coven situation on the Isle since it would only serve to panic everyone.
Not that he was already panicking himself. The commincators he had given them had suddenly cut off and though Carlos and Jane assured him that maybe it was just the climate messing with the technology and they shouldn’t jump to conclusions.. That was what he was doing. The last time they had contacted him, it was to say they had teamed up with Uma and now they mysteriously couldn’t be reached.
Uma could be holding them captive or worse. He knew all the girl wanted was to get the kids off the Isle so hopefully if he was able to pass this reform, he would be able to appease them. And hopefully Harry hadn’t hooked them first at of spite.
“Hey.” Ben felt Mal’s slender cold fingers stop his hands and felt her nuzzle against his neck, “You’re going to do great. You’re a good king.”
Ben couldn’t help but relax as Mal wrapped her arms around him. “Thanks.”
They had had a long talk after Cotillion. Mainly about the stresses they each had been dealing with and they had ignored each other. Miscommunication bred bad blood and they had promised to talk things out more and not hide it under the surface or erase it from his mind.
For Mal, he allowed her to cut back on some of her royal cosort duties and would start adding more responsibilities when she got the hang of it.
He couldn’t do such a thing being the King of the land, but Mal’s most important self-appointed duty was to help him relax and destress and provide moral support as he had helped her when she came to Auradon. He had told her over and over that she didn’t need to do it like an obligation but Mal was stubborn.
He loved that about her.
Ben turned and kissed her full on the lips enjoying the sweet strawberry taste and the slight bite she gave on his lips, “Now go out there.”
Ben knew a goofy smile was spreading on his face but he couldn’t help it. He always felt a little breathless and punchdrunk when he was in her presence. She was just so magnetic and wonderful and…
“You got to go out there now.” Mal gently but firmly pushed him in the direction of thepodium where Evie was waiting.
“Right. Right.” Ben smoothed down his face and approched. There none of the usual applause that accompined his entrence which spoke to how the people were feeling about Evie’s new idea.
The butterflies beat faster and Ben felt his knees buckle which he tried his best to hide by clutching the podium.
“Hello everyone. As I’m sure you’ve read from Evie’s recent email that we plan to bring over all the villain children from the Isle. Recent surveys of the land show it is not a fit enviroment for adults, even worse so for children.” He turned so Evie could take over as they practiced.
Evie smoothed down the paper she held and cleared her throat. “I put all the details within the document I sent all of you. But a quick overview.”
“Statistics show that every eyar at least 200 kids die on the Isle from lack of nutrition, dehydration, disease like..”   “We don’t need to know how they died. It’s good riddence!” Chad Charming shouted.
Evie’s mouth popped open and she shot a glare but her voice remained even, “No child deserves to die. No matter who their parents are.” “Sounds like someone’s a little bias.” Another voice heckled.
“Yeah, some villain kids are villain kids. Like Uma. She nearly destroyed us all!”
“She ruined my dress!” “I almost fell off the boat.” “And we’re going to let more of their kind come over?” “If.. if you all just look over to page 56 of the document, I detailed a plan for bringing them over and to prevent any incidents like Uma’s happening again. These kids just need guidence. And more importantly, food and shelter.” Evie tried to raise her voice but panic had overtaken the room and was getting to Ben too making the butterflies feel more like frantic bats scratching at his stomach.
It was happening again. Sweat began to drip down his neck and his trembling knees soon spread down the rest of his legs until he felt kike he was going to fall over. He couldn’t breath. He was losing control of the room and his body. Ben forced himself to breath through his nose though every one of his senses told him to run away while he still could.
Yet another feeling was rising beside the anxiety. The anger. The ferocious anger that made so many servants and even his mother fear his father. Why so many people still referred to him as the Beast.
The anger was unbecoming of a King but sometimes Ben clung to it. It was a strong force amid the tide of anxiety threatening to drown him. It made him feel in control, it helped him focus on getting everyone to shut up and listen!
“EVERYONE!” Ben bellowed into the microphone stunning the auditorium to silence.
“Everyone,” Ben repeated at a slightly lower volume but not bothering to hide the anger behind it, “It seems that no one here wants to act like the prince or princess they are and politely listen to Evie’s idea. Fine. You can all say whatever prejudiced arguments you want against the idea or why we should accept it. We will listen, we will take it under consideration. But I am King and I assure you, I plan to pass this law. It’s your choice if you want to read the document and understand all the facts and accept what is coming or you don’t have to. You can stew in your fear instead.”
No one seemed to know what to do or say and that loud silence was what snapped Ben back to his senses and realized what he had just done. He had lost control again. He acted immaturely and irrationally.
He acted like a little boy playing ruler instead of understanding the views and fears of the people he was serving. Even if he didn’t agree with some of them, he should have listened, not shut them down to get his own way.
Now he really wished he could run away but all he could do was cling to the podium and ask, “Please state any concerns or wishes you have for the program. In a civilized manner.”
He heard a voice clear his throat and a dark skinned hand wave in the air.
“Yes, Prince Thaddeus Thatch Nedakh,” Ben called, proud of himself for being able to pronunce the tricky Atlantean name correctly.
“I read through your document and I find it very well thought out. It really is a detailed plan that I think is doable,” Thaddeus said more to the rest of the audience’s benefit than to compliment Evie but Evie still beamed, “However, I feel.. That maybe it is too much to do at once. I mean, it’s just, your Majesty. You still have several problems to deal with within Auradon. Like the rampant tourism that is destroying Atlantica,”
“Here, here!” one of the mermaid’s daughters called out.
“The Magic Ban that is affected almost half of the population. We, at Atlantis need magic as our life source. We can’t hide it away or surpress it for the sake of Auradonian progress. It is part of our culture and heritage. You’re trying to make everything uniform and have our kingdoms subsumed into one another, but it can’t work that way for us.” Thaddeus stated, nervously swishing his white bangs.
“If I may add to that,” Prince Pachacuti bounced up, non-too discreetly squeezing his boyfriend’s hand in a show of support, “While we at Kuzcotopia appreciate your cool things like tvs and video games and smoothies, we don’t like you trying to get all grabby grabby with our gold. That’s ours. Also-”
“What Pach is trying to say,” Thaddeus interrupted before Pachacuti could go off topic like he was wont to do, “While helping kids is noble, there are still some things we need to fix here in Auradon before we help others, and we should devote our resources to that instead.”
“Thank you.” Evie nodded, “Anyone else.” It seemed Thaddeus and Pachacuti broke the ice for more hands raised this time but before Evie could call on anyone, Chad shouted his opinion again.
“They’re right. Auradon should be considered first. Our kingdoms, our families!” “Some of those trapped on the Isle are part of our family. Like your cousin, Dizzy, is she not?” Herkakleides jumped up before turning to the crowd, “My extended family wish to free Hadie and possibly even Hades from the Isle. They are our family and holding grudges usually leads to worse consequences. Trust us, the gods know a thing or two about grudges backfiring.”
His younger sister, Madora, stood up next,“Also, Aunt Persephone would truly love to be reuinted with her husband. Yes, what he did to our parents was wrong, but we believe in taking the higher road and a greater cause. I’m not suggesting we let all the adult villains free. But the god of death and the underworld provides a certain balance to the world that is needed.”
“I have something to add.” An older voice called.
“Yes,” Evie pointed. It was clear she was happy with the people standing up for her idea.
A prim older woman with striking dark eyebrows stood up. Lady Waltham ie Clayton’s sister. She was one of the ones who were to be sent to the Isle but she had recieved a formal pardon from the Tarzan-Porter family. Ever since then, she and her daughter, Dame Rebecca, had been the most vocal activists against the Isle and she often showed up at events like these if it was out of her way.
“I, too, wish to be reunited with my nephew. I can’t speak to letting my brother free. He had made his own choices. But Clay was born there among those savages and criminals and I know he has done nothing to deserve it. If he has murdered anyone or thing while he was on the Isle, I’m sure it was because he had to. If he had been allowed to grow up here, he wouldn’t have. The difference in lifestyle and upbringing would have made all the difference. So though I did not get my nephew back then, I still wish for him to come now. He and all the other Isle children. They should be free.” Lady Waltham proclaimed to applause and quite a few hises and boos.
“I have a counterargument.” Another british voice piped up, Victoria, Tarzan and Jane’s eldest daughter, “While it’s true some villain kids wouldn’t be so evil if they had been raised correctly from the beginning, who says we can change them now. They have been raised by the same villains that have tried to kill our families. Some haven’t tried, some succeeded like when Clayton killed Kerchak. And you’re right about grudges because if those same villains still hold grudges against us, they would pass those grudges against their children.”
“They raised them to be manipulative and decietful and evil. It’s merely a matter of security that we keep them at bay. Maybe we can’t help these children, but we can save their grandchildren. Taking those kids off the Isle now would be cruel to survivors. How would Queen Rapunzel like to deal with a little copy of her Mother dearest? Or Quasimoda and Esmeralda face another predatory figure in their life? No. No way! These kids should not be free.”
Jane stood up, the formerly shy fairy’s eyes were blazing, “How dare you say that when you know nothing about how they have been raised!”
Ben could see Evie tense up beside him and could imagine what she was thinking. And if he couldn’t imagine what Evie was thinking, he could see it plainly on Carlos’ harrowed face in the front row. Freddie Facilier looked ready to fight and Ben knew she was thinking about her own neglectful father while Ally patted her hand comfortingly.
Some children had been raised and encouraged to be copies of their parents like Mal and Evie. But others were considered burdans. Punching bags. Abused and neglected and all other awful sorts of things. Just to ignore their plight because of a few bad apples, it made him want to go Beast all over again. Maybe then they would know what fear was like because that’s how Carlos felt whenever Cruella yelled at him.
He had wanted Carlos to come up to speak and share his experiences to garner sympathy for the plan but he knew he couldn’t ask the boy that. The trauma was still personal and raw to him and it would be cruel for him to talk about it if he wasn’t ready which Carlos told him he wasn’t when Evie asked.
He supposed he could ask Evie but her story of being pressured by her mother was too similar to other princesses in Auradon like Audrey who were used to conforming and plucking for beauty.
He had to admit, Evie, Mal, and Jay did have tough lives. But it sounded a bit better than most. Their parents cared enough to give them food and encourage them to be the worst. None of theirs was a story of being a burdenful orphan.
Probably because those orphans were dead.
Another voice clearing her throat snapped Ben out of his reverie.
“Yes, Esmeralda.” “Thank you, your Majesty.” Esmeralda stood up with her shoulders back and proud gaze, “I would thank Victoria Porter to keep her opinion based on the stories that she know and not use mine to construct her argument. It is not her story to tell. While I do not want Frollo strolling around Auradon hurting other my people, I am for the children being removed from the Isle. It is a type of oppression to segregate and despise these kids simply because of who they belong to. If you truly want to prevent more Claude Frollos than open your heart to people who are not like you. Do not judge them as monsters, do not be cruel to those who are most in need of your help. That is true justice.”
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Meow.” Zevon meowed.
“Well I’ll admit, it’s anticlimatic but it was the best I could do on such short notice.” Calix said as he, Uma and Ginny stared at the small purple cat with a fitting leather jacket that was formerly the teenager known as Zevon.
“You can change people into animals!” Ginny screeched, clutching her hair like she thought he was about to turn it into a bunch of snakes or somethhing. Though he did muse on the idea a bit. She had the same screechy hiss Medusa did.
“Yeah I can, magic works here on the Isle. I can also hyptonize with my singing. Part siren.” Calix puffed his chest proudly, “And I am….Son of Circe. Patent pending.”
That was all Ginny needed to know because she ran into the nearest room and with the click of a lock they knew she wouldn’t be a problem anymore.
“Is he going to stay that way?” Uma asked reaching to pet Zevon but drew back when the kitten raised its hackles.
“Probably not since there are a bunch of people that can change him back here. But still… I thought it was poetic justice. Like a mother, like son.”
In more ways than one Calix mused to himself.
He remembered that changing people to animals was one of the firsy spells his mother taught. The one she was infamous for. Sort of his birthright.
Though what was more of a birthright was the right to have his mother with him. Wasn’t that the right of everyone in Auradon and on the Isle? Wasn’t that why Mother Gothel stealing Rapunzel was such a heinous crime. For the pain she caused King Fredric and Queen Arianna.
Did King Beast and his supporters think one second how it felt for Circe, a supposed villieness to have her son ripped away from her to live on this stinking wasteland. Or him, the innocent child, that had always depended on his mother to suddenly have the living with a family friend situation become permenant.
No.
It was all black and white for these guys. All or nothing. He always theorized that that was the reason why Auradonians were such prudes when it came to visiting Greece. The naked statues and stories of gods sleeping around and smiting was so scandalous and primitive to them. They didn’t get that there were shades of grey. Humans, gods, sorcerers, centaurs, whatever creature. They had their good and bad sides.
“Zevon what have we told you! No duels! We’re the ones in charge here!” A loud commanding voice called down the hallway, her shadow coming closer and closer and there was nowhere for them to hide without being heard or noticed.
The stunning yet imposing figure of Queen Nerissa appeared in front of them and for a moment. No one moved. She stared at them in shock then green fire burst from her mouth.
It was all so fast and the light blinded them that they could only see flashes of the fire that lit up the hallway, jumping from the torches and sparking on the bricks.
The flames licked their legs and Calix fell to the floor feeling the searing pain burn his pants only to feel more burns on his hands as he hit the floor.
He cautiously looked up to see that Queen Nerissa turned into a large purple dragon whose fangs came closer then he would have liked.
He raised his hand, a spell on his lips or a hypnotic song but his throat was closed. He couldn’t speak with the dry lump clogging his throat.
The dragon picked him up by the collar in a surprisingly gentle man compared to Uma who he heard a loud curse and looked behind to see her being picked up by the dragon’s tail uslessly throwing her captain hat out the window.
There was not much to do when Queen Nerissa literally had a big advantage over them but Calix did his best to memorize his surroundings if they ever escaped.
Instead of transforming back to a human at the door to the tower, Queen Nerissa unwisely stayed in her form, breaking the door’s frame as she squeezed her large body through it and lumbered down the stairs to the bottom floor. She broke through the iron door that led to the lowest floor which was the dungeon.
The room was damp, dark, mold growing on the brick walls. Standard dungeon aesthetic. Cells lining three walls of the room. It was surpriseingly full with what looked like corpses considering their opaque pallor but from the low, steady moaning and groaning it was clear that they were still alive prisoners. For now.
The sight made Calix feel queasy especially that of the cell he was staring directly in front of. It was a female form, he thought, under the shapeless bag of cloth. Her arms disjointed at odd angles and tied behind her head with iron chains connected to the wall. Her legs were not visible until he realized that there was a pool of blood where her legs must have been and made the connection of what must have happened.
The broken woman made Calix completely miss the two lone figure standing in the middle of the room. The tall, slender one was a man in a crisp new French Legion army outfit while the other was a teen boy, reaching up to the officer’s neck, in a silk white suit that seemed to sparkle against his combed ginger hair.
Both turned to witness Queen Nerissa’s entrence with them and smiled.
“New prisoners.” The general asked without much question in his voice. More like he was looking for confirmation to an obvious answer.
Queen Nerissa changed back to her human form, her jaws dropping Calix undignifedly to the ground with Uma.
“Possibly, Staquait. Their mothers will probably want to deal with them.” Queen Nerissa said and stalked out of the room.
There was no mistaking the groan of disappointment emitting from the ginger haired boy. It seemed out of place in this grim dungeon. Like he had just heard he wouldn’t get a new toy.
“Patience, Lars.” The officer glared at his charge, smacking the whip by his hip.
Uma growled under her breath at the name which brought the boy’s attention to them. Not a pleasent feeling.
He looked like an angry harpy to Calix. His eyes were cold like a bird of prey and full of crazed glee.
“Hello, Uma. Your friend Gil told me so much about you. Glowing compliments really. How brave you are, how smart you are. How strong and unbreakable ....” Calix waited for the inevitable “wham” line or classic villain threat. Quiet sadistic types like this guy always had some sort of line that was supposed to strike fear into their hearts.
It seemed Uma was waiting for the line too because she looked like she was surpressing a yawn. That earned a colder look in Lars’ eyes though his genial smile betrayed nothing that he was irrited by Uma’s lack of response.
“After hearing so much from Gil, I wondered. How strong and unbreakable are you? Physically, I mean. I’m sure you’re very emotionally tough dealing with the sea witch.”
“Tell me...How do you find the feel of a whip against your back?”
Uma made no response to Lars’ question, she stared straight ahead as if she hadn’t heard which Calix had a feeling wasn’t going to fly with Lars. He was going to continue prodding until Uma snapped or answered the question.
So he answered for him, as cheerful a voice as he could muster, “Strangely titilating.”
Staqauit who had wandered away from the tension between the three to obsserve some poor prisoner struggling with a heavy rock on his chest, came back to watch the proceedings that elicited such a strange response.
Lars’ eyes were truly expressive, Calix thought to himself. They showed everything the boy was thinking even when his face was frozen in a semi-permenant smile.
“Titilating?” “Yes. I’ve been experimenting with whip play with my partners. Usually I’ve been dominant but then I decided I would give it a try and It. Feels. Wonderful!” Staqauit and Lars looked at each other as if they weren’t sure what to make of his answer. If he was being genuine or lying his ass off.
Calix bit the inside of cheek to keep from smiling too much. That might make them think he was bluffing when he really wasn’t. Usually the titillation depended on whether the other person knew what he or she or they was doing.
But it was certainly fun catching the villains off guard like this. He had always wondered about those wise cracking heroes. How they were always able to make a joke or insult their nemesis when their very lives were at stake.
Nos he understood why they did it. It was fun being a troll.
Sitting himself up in a cross-legged position Calix continued with his solo conversation, thinking of everything he usually did during his date nights. “I also enjoy the flogging. So if you’re going to do the flogging, I would like to be told ahead of time so I could whip up some oils for aftercare.”
“Where is he?” A breathless voice came from the doorway.
Calix and Uma turned simulatenously to see Circe and Ursula entering the room.
Calix’s heart lept into his throat and all thoughts of trolling and whipping and the Isle and danger faded away.
It was his mom!
Calix ran to her, ignoring the pain shooting up his legs, pressing his face against her shoulder to hide the tears that were forming. She smelled just the same. Of sea salt and magic sulfur from her potions. And she felt the same. Warm. Oh so warm. He hadn’t hugged her much, he thought he was too old for that, but it had been what he had missed most when she was gone. Hugging her, he felt safe and loved and he didn’t care if the castle burned to the ground around them or if Auradon was invaded. He had his mom again.
“Calix” Circe said that one name, but all the emotion behind it said everything he needed to know. She missed him too and the months apart had been unbearable.
“You’re certainly not punishing my son for coming over to join me as he should.” Circe announced, glaring at Staqauit who scowled in response to the sorceress.
“And why are you hanging about here? You should be at the Fish and Chip Shoppe taking orders.” Ursula barreled past Calix and his mom, poking her tentacles at Uma’s chest accusingly.
“While you’re here trying to get off of the Isle? Mom, this is what I’ve been trying to do all along. Get off the Isle. I should be a part of this.” Uma declared, smacking the tentacle away from her.
“That’s not what I’ve heard. Even after you failed at those Auradonian’s stupid Cotillion, and ran off, I’ve heard you’ve come back just to try to hire one of the mercenaries to infiltrate. Go against us. Care to explain?” Ursula cracked her neck, looking at her daughter knowingly.
Uma didn’t look like she was about to answer but she sighed, “I.. I want to help the children here. The Coven.. I know what you’re doing is good but you’re making things worse for the people who don’t have powers.” “She sounds like a sweet princess. All caring and nice.” Lars laughed earning him a slap for Ursula before she turned to her daughter, moving around her until the girl was firmly tangled in her mother’s many tentacles.
“Ah yes, I know you care about those poor unfortunate souls but that’s the way it is with some people. After all, we need someone to be our servants. They don’t have powers, what else are you going to do with their lives.” “By forcing them to work.” Uma retorted.
“Like I forced you to work.” Ursula stated, “That was a good thing. I made you strong. I made you a fighter because I made you do things on your own. Don’t act like it’s a bad thing.” “Yeah I worked. Cleaned your shop while you watched soaps.” Uma snapped.
“You ingrate!”
“Stop there, you wench!” A scottish brough shoved past Calix and Circe and menancingly pointed his hook at Ursula and throwing Uma’s captain hat back to her.
“We better get out of here.” Circe motioned but Calix stood still. Now that he was reunited with mom they all could really get to business and defeat the Coven. Starting with putting Ursula, Staqauit and Lars out of comission.” “Come on, let’s blast them while they’re distracted.” Calix urged seeing as Ursula was busy batting off Harry’s hook and Staqauit and Lars had turned to attend their prisoners. However, Circe pulled him back.
“We can’t do that. We’re working with them.” Circe hissed.
“Wait you’re actually working with them to take over Auradon? But I’m here with you now. You don’t have to act like the bad guy.” Calix protested.
“It’s a bit more complicated than that. I’ll explain it to you later. Let’s just go.” Circe said.
“But..”
“Everyone stop!”
In strode Queen La, holding her shame-faced daughter by the wrist and two spears and staffs with the other hand. “It seems the children want to stop our plans. Well I made a deal with my daughter. A duel between us. If I win, you all submit to us. If Ranavalalona wins, we’ll let you go plot from afar but I really doubt you’d succeed in anything.”
“No! We all duel or nnothing!” Harry snarled, lunging to attack the Queen but Staqauit, Ursula and Lars teamed to subdue him and wrestled him to the ground, giving Calix a clear sight of the poor prisoner that had been struggling under the rock.
Though he couldn’t see his face, he recognized the black wavy hair. Aziz.
Calix wanted to move away like his mom was urging him. He wanted to fight like his brain was screaming at him.
But he couldn’t do anything but watch.
Lala and La took their places at opposite sides of the room and ran to attack each other. Kicks and jumps beat fast between them like a fatal dance, and sparks flew whenever their spears clashed against the other. The only sound being grunts and growls and the occasional cat like screech set the cage battle atmosphere.
They seemed evenly matched with whenever the older woman hit her daughter back, Lala would retaliate with a feigned right, swinging up to catch a rotting ceiling plank to kick her mother’s chest, sending the woman across the room.
Then everything went downhill.
Their spears had been broken and discarded and Lala had her mother pinned against the wall after almost knocking her out with a headbutt.
But the wooziness was faked for La straightened up and punched her daughter in the throat. Lala fell back, choking and La made her move.
Hitting again at the sensitive throat she grabbed Lala by the neck and threw her to the ground. Calix was sure that Lala’s neck would have snapped but the girl moved just in time to go along with the blow.
With Lala on her stomach, scrambling to get back to her feet, Queen La pounced on her back and pulled both of Lala’s arms back just as the jungle girl had done to him when they first encountered her.
He grimaced with sympathy pain remembering how she had pulled his muscle unmercifully from the joint that it was connected to.
“Mother!”
La stopped and Calix hung his head in defeat. It was official.
But La wasn’t done.
She let go of Lala’s arms and allowed her to turn to her back and proceed to press her foot against her daughter’s neck.
“Mot-ugh-Mo--Mercy. Please!” Lala wheezed, grabbing desperately at the ground and her mother’s leg but La just glared.
La crouched down, not removing her foot from her daughter’s neck and bent to whisper something. Then she finished her off by knocking her unconscious.
“Staqauit, the isolation cell is where?” Queen La asked, hefting her daughter on her back.
“I’ll lead you to it.” Staqauit lended the jungle queen his arm and they walked off.
“Come you two. I have some plans for what you two can do for me.” Ursula said leading Harry and Uma away.
“Come on, Calix.” Circe whispered solomnly and Calix allowed himself to be moved away from the dungeon. The last sight being Lars’ smile.

The Princess and the Pirate
A/N: Well, this story is entirely selfish, but it’s my tumblr so who cares. If you do chose to read, I hope you enjoy!
Summary: Descendants has a hold on me and Harry Hook is at the center of it.
~Prologue~
Five years ago, Mal left Auradon and broke up with Ben. She left her friends and home in search of her greater purpose, as she put in her breakup note, and escaped the pressures of being Ben’s lady of the court. Ben then decided that he would once and for all scrub the Isle of the Lost clean of villains and villainy. Harry, Uma and Gil were among the first to be taken to Auradon to be given a chance at a new life, and Harry found it to be quite rewarding. After about a year or so of working together, Ben, Carlos, Jay, Evie, Harry, Uma, and Gil were a tight-knit group of friends with Evie now Ben’s Lady and Uma his Chief Advisor. With work to be done on both ends of the bridge, Harry elected to stay on the Isle and help keep the order and safety of the people of New Auradon, which is what the combination of the island and the mainland was now called. After a few years of peace and prosperity and all of the descendants growing out of Auradon Prep, Auradon university was built and would begin its inaugural semester in just a week.
 ~Harry~
It had been an extremely long time since Harry had even thought of stealing, pillaging, or anything even remotely unpleasant. He had learned to be a good person effortlessly and enjoyed making others laugh and girls he found attractive blush with his now harmless flirting. Harry let out a sigh as he looked out onto the clean and bright streets of what was once a musty, dirty, crime-ridden cesspool of misery he was forced to call home. He looked past the small island to the mainland where he was about to head for some of his very first educational experiences. His father wasn’t much of an academic and his mother had died just a few years after his birth, so the only formal training he had was in cartography. While on Neverland with his father before the Beast rounded everyone up and plopped them on the isle, Harry had been taught to fight, have fun, and even fly under the tutelage of Peter Pan. Harry thought back to those days as he made his way to Auradon university. He thought about Gil and Uma, who he hadn’t seen but once a year for the past five since Mal’s departure (which of course sparked Ben’s Clean It Up act, as the group called it) and he wondered if they’d be as happy as he is to finally have stability.
Harry followed the signs and found his way to the student housing where he was greeted with a tight hug by Gil.
“Harry! Oh, man I’m so glad you’re here! We’re roommates, can you believe that?!” Gil exclaimed.
“Let him breathe, Gil, he just got here,” Harry heard Uma say from behind Gil. Harry chuckled and embraced his significantly shorter friend.
“Still wearing that eyeliner and hook I see?” Uma asked skeptically.
Harry shrugged. “Ye know me.”
“Come on, I’ll show you our room! Oh and these are the houses: there’s Aurora, Kita, Florian, and Shang! We’re in Shang where all the cool guys are. Aurora is where all the princesses and musical people are. Florian is for all the writing people are… like reporters and thinkers. Kita is where all the science nerds are, so if you need homework help, go to them,” Gil explained as they walked through the path. As Harry looked around, he happened to see the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. Her hair was long and red and her skin was paler than Snow White’s he was sure.
“Who is tha’ beauty?” Harry asked after stopping dead in his tracks.
“That’s Rayla. She doesn’t say much, but man can she sing. We had karaoke night last night and she won by a landslide,” Uma explained.
“Is she a princess?” Harry asked. He hoped the answer was no because he knew he’d never be able to get near a princess. New Auradon was a wonderful place, but there were still some who feared the children of such horrid people.
“Not sure… Nobody knows who her parents are, so I’d assume not,” Uma responded with a shrug.
Harry and Gil walked into the house labeled ‘Shang’ and were greeted by Ben, Evie, Jay, and Carlos.
“Hey, look who finally made it!” Ben said and pulled his eyeliner-wearing friend into a hug. Harry greeted everyone and smiled, then noticed Uma’s sudden shyness and looked over to see Lannie walking by.
“Hey, guys! Hi, Uma,” she said and winked at the teal-haired girl.
Uma blushed and Harry’s smile grew into a gawk at Uma. “Are ye- “
“We had ONE date,” Uma said quietly, and Harry noticed her cheeks turning red.
“I’m going to go meet my new roommate, I’ll see you guys at dinner, okay?” Evie said and gave Harry’s shoulder a squeeze before kissing Ben briefly and skipping off towards Kita house.
“When are you proposing?” Carlos asked Ben once Evie was out of earshot.
“Proposal? Well, i’s about time, lad,” Harry said and patted his friend on the back.
Ben blushed and smiled. “Well… I had to get all of my knights together, which includes you now, Harry.”
Harry smiled and tried not to get too choked up. “I’m honored.”
For the very first time, Harry was home and he was excited for this coming year of learning and was hopeful about his new position.
 ~Rayla~
“Is that the last of it?” my mom asked my father and I, who had just carried the last of her teaching materials to her classroom inside of the massive campus that was Auradon university.
“Yes,” we groaned in unison.
“This is so exciting, isn’t it? All of my research is going to be spread across all of Auradon’s finest…” my mother said and practically floated around the room.
“Yes, I’m very happy for you, but Jane… did you really have to bring all of England with you?” my father asked.
“Tarzan, you can’t convince me that those were heavy while when I met you, you bore your weight and then some on your knuckles,” my mother responded which caused me to chuckle.
My parents looked at me and smiled. “Why don’t you go find your room, dear? We’ll see you at dinner. Maybe you’ll make friends!”
I rolled my eyes and waved goodbye to them. It’s not that I didn’t like people, I just… didn’t say much. I wasn’t in the business of people, I was going to this university to become a veterinarian—Auradon’s first, in fact. I got along with people in passing just fine, but I guess it was odd that I was perfectly comfortable not saying anything. I had very few human friends growing up and I was often teased for hanging out with animals at the various shelters rather than going to parties. I knew my parents worried, but I couldn’t find it in myself to be someone I’m not. When I explained that to them, they understood and usually left me alone about it.
I approached Kita house and entered the gigantic mansion to find a large group of people mingling about in the common area directly ahead of me. Since my performance last night at the karaoke bar, people all over this campus have been saying hello to me in passing. I wave and greet them back, of course, but the conversation never seems to go further. So when none of them seemed to notice my entrance, I was slightly relieved that I wouldn’t have to reciprocate an awkward greeting. Instead I headed up the stairs towards the dorms and scanned down the hall until I found my name and another on a large blue door.
I opened the door and found that half of the room had been taken already, which made picking a bed extremely easy, for which I was very grateful.
“Oh! Hello, you must be Rayla! I’m your roommate, Evie,” a woman with glossy blue hair said cheerfully from the claimed closet.
“Hi, yeah, nice to meet you,” I said and smiled politely.
“Hey, you won karaoke last night, right? Wow! I thought you would have been in Aurora for sure! Where did you learn to sing like that?” she asked.
I shrugged. “I learned from birds, I suppose.”
Evie laughed. “You’re so funny! I hope you don’t mind, I took this half of the room already.”
“Not at all,” I said with a smile and set my things down.
“So what are you studying? Evie asked me.
“Veterinary medicine,” I answered while unpacking.
“Wow, that’s amazing. We actually have a campus mutt named Dude. He’ll probably be the most interesting dog you’ll ever meet,” Evie said. I looked at her quizzically.
“Oh?”
“He talks.” I smiled. “All dogs talk, you just have to speak their language.”
“No, she means actually talk. Like you,” I heard a male voice say from behind me. I turned around and saw a small and tan collie mix sitting in our doorway. “You’re not going to try and poke me, are you?” the dog said.
I stumbled backwards in shock and Evie giggled.
“I know right? I guess he got into some nasty magic and nobody knows how to reverse the spell,” she shrugged.
I knelt to his level and held out my hand for him to smell. “So… you’re a talking dog… Alright, Evie. I’ll give you this one, he is certainly the most interesting dog I’ve ever met.”
For the next hour or so, Evie and I talked a lot about what our goals were and Evie told me all about her plans to create new formulas of makeup and beauty products and I was thoroughly impressed with her ambition.
“Hate to interrupt, but dinner is in ten minutes,” a boy with glasses, a bowtie, and a sweatervest said from our doorway.
“Thanks, Doug,” Evie said not making eye contact and visibly uncomfortable. After he left, I looked at her as we got up to walk together.
“What was that all about?” I asked her.
She sighed and explained as we walked down the stairs and out of the house towards the dining hall, “That’s Doug, he and I used to date. When I first came here, my mother, the Evil Queen, told me to find a prince but then Doug made me feel like I didn’t need one. So we dated and then we just drifted apart when Mal left, and then Ben and I really started to get to know each other, so now he thinks that I’m shallow and that I just want a prince to marry so I can live in a castle, but that isn’t true! I love Ben and I’d do anything for him. The fact that he’s King is only happenstance… You don’t think I’m shallow, do you?”
I shook my head. “Not at all. I think you’re very smart and loyal.. But I’ve also only known you for an hour.”
Evie giggled. “Feels like longer. Oh, hey! There’s Ben, you should come meet him and the rest of our friends! Come on, they’ll love you.”
Evie lead me over to a large table that sat about 12 people. Evie introduced me to each of them, and she introduced me to them, “Rayla, this is Ben, Carlos, Jane his girlfriend, Jay, Uma and Lannie, Gil, and Harry.”
I waved to everyone shyly and smiled.
The man named Harry was sat next to me and got up only to take my hand and bow deeply. “Pleasure to meet ye, lass. I’m Harry,” he said and planted a soft kiss on the top of my hand. I stood there completely stunned and blushing.
“Damn, he doesn’t miss a beat, does he?” the girl named Uma said, which earned her a glare from Harry. He pulled out a chair next to his seat for me and I thanked him, still blushing. Evie sat next to me and grinned at my face, which I was sure was red.
The room went quiet and I saw at the professors’ table my parents as well as many other famous faces and the Fairy Godmother herself stood up to address us, “Welcome everyone to the very first semester of Auradon University! As headmistress, I hope that you all have a wonderful time learning and growing. But for now, enjoy your dinner. Bibbidi-bobbidi-boo!”

Bless the Broken Road - 7
The next day, Jack called Jane to ask her how the date went.
“It was great!” she told him. “We had a really nice dinner and great conversation and he walked me to my door at the end of it.”
“And...”
“And that’s it.”
“That’s it?” he questioned.
“Yeah, that’s it. I thought he was going to kiss me, but then he just walked away,” you explained.
“Well, he said he had fun right?”
“Right.”
“Then I don’t think you did anything wrong, he was probably too nervous to do it,” Jack reassured her.
She heard what sounded like a door opening and closing in the background of the call.
“I have to go, my girlfriend just got here,” Jack told her.
“Wait, girlfriend?” Jane questioned, her eyes widening. “I didn’t even know you were seeing anyone.”
“Yeah, um, her name is Ashley.” “Well, I’m happy to hear that. Next time we talk, I need to hear more about this girl, but for now, I’ll let you go.”
“Alright, bye. I love you.”
“I love you too.”
~
Later in the day, Jane was watching movies on her couch when she got another phone call, this time from Reid.
“Hey Spence!” she greeted, moving to sit up more.
“Hey, I was just calling to see what you were up to today,” he told her.
Through the phone, he could hear her tv, “YOU’RE WAND, HARRY!”
“Goblet of Fire?” he asked with a chuckle.
“Yup!” she cheered.
“Anyways, would you be interested in going to the library’s coffee shop after the  10th doctor shows up?”
“Who?”
“David Tennant.”
“Barty Crouch Jr’s in Doctor Who?”
“I guess we haven’t gotten you that far in the series yet...whoops.”
“I’ll let it slide,” she told him with a shrug he couldn’t see. “Coffee sounds great.”
“Great! I’ll be over in 2 hours.”
~
A little over two hours later, Reid and Jane sat at a table in the coffee shop area of the library.
“This place is nice!” Jane told him, looking around at all the shelves full of books. He nodded in agreement. “Why’d you choose the library’s coffee shop over a regular coffee shop, say the one we both go to before work?”
“I figured this one would be quieter. And this way I could pick up a book or two while we’re here,” he explained.
“A book or two, more like a book or ten,” she laughed.
“Touche,” he chuckled. “So how’s Jack been doing?” he asked.
“He’s been doing well, thanks for asking. Um, I actually talked to him earlier in the day and apparently he has a girlfriend.”
“He didn’t tell you?”
“No. Today was the first time hearing about her and that was only because she had come over to his place. Otherwise, I’m not sure if he would’ve told me about her.”
“Maybe he was waiting to see if things were gonna go well first?” he suggested. Jane shrugged. “If you’re done with your coffee, do you want to walk around and find some books?”
“Yeah, sure!” Jane agreed. They threw away their cups and headed over to peruse the shelves.
After they looked around for a while, Jane spoke. “Speaking of not telling people things, maybe it’s best if we don’t tell the team about us quite yet,” she said.
He turned to look at her. “Us? As in we’re officially an us?”
She smiled. “I mean, yeah if you want to be.”
He stepped closer to her and took her chin in his hand, gently raising it up towards him. He leaned down and pressed his lips to hers.
When he pulled away, she grinned and said, “I take it that that’s a yes.” She reached up and wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him back down for another kiss.
“You know, we do work with a team of profilers,” Reid pointed out as they turned back to look at the books again. “They’re going to find out eventually.”
”I know,” Jane assured him. “But I just don’t want them to make a big deal out of it right now. Can we please keep it a secret for a while?”
”Alright,” he agreed. “We can do that.”
~~~
Around mid-morning on Monday, the team had a case come in. They gathered in the roundtable room and Garcia began the briefing.
“Over the last few months, four women have been found dead on the edge of town in Mt. Juliet, Tennessee. All had signs of sexual assault and had a COD of blunt force trauma to the head,” she shared with the team.
Hotch signaled an end to the briefing after a bit more discussion, telling the team, “Wheels up in 30.”
When the team touched down in Tennessee, Reid and Addison worked together on victimology.
“The UNSUB definitely has a type. Perhaps these women were surrogates for the real object of his frustration, probably an ex-girlfriend,” Jane pondered, examining the photos they had hung on the board.
“Probably,” Reid agreed. “All women were in their twenties and had brown hair with blue eyes..” he trailed off, turning to look at her. She looked a lot like the victims.
~
After the team delivered the profile, they called it a day and headed out to dinner.
“How’s Henry doing, JJ?” Reid asked, making conversation.
“He’s good! He misses you, you’ll have to come to visit sometime,” JJ replied.
Rossi turned to Hotch and asked, “And what about Jack? How’s he doing?”
“He’s good,” Hotch informed them.
“I didn’t know your son’s name was Jack,” Jane spoke. “That’s my brother’s name.”
“How’s he been doing?” Morgan inquired.
She turned to him. “He’s doing better. He even has a girlfriend now,” she shared. “I promised him that if he gets better and sticks to taking his medication that he could come have dinner with all of us sometime.”
“We’d all love to meet him,” JJ told her. The others nodded in agreement.
After dinner, they all headed back to the hotel for the night. Before heading off to their separate rooms, Reid asked Jane if she wanted to grab coffee in the morning.
“Yeah, sure! I’ll see you then. Goodnight.”
“Goodnight.”
~
In the morning, the pair met in the lobby to head to coffee. Before they could leave, Rossi entered the room and spotted them.
“Good morning,” he greeted them.
“Good morning,” Jane repeated back to him.
“Are you two heading out to get coffee?”
“Yeah,” Reid confirmed.
“Good. I’ll come with. I’d like to grab some too.”
Together, the three set out to find a local coffee shop. They had some time, so they found a table and sat down for a while.
Spencer looked at Jane from across the table. Rossi sat between them. He gave her a sideways smile as they sat in awkward silence, Rossi completely ignorant to the fact that he had intruded on a date.
After another few minutes of agonizing silence, the three headed to the station to meet with the rest of the team and review the information they had so far. During their review, the sheriff came in to tell them that they just got a call about another girl going missing. Her mother had been the one to report her disappearance.
“Reid and Addison, go talk to the mother. See what you can find out about her,” Hotch ordered.
They grabbed the keys to the SUV and quickly headed out.
The missing girl’s mother let them into her home and invited them to sit down in her living room while they asked her about her daughter.
“Mrs. Scott, is your daughter involved with anyone currently?” Jane asked her.
“No, not right now. But Kali was with a man about five months ago. His name was Corey Jones,” the woman shared.
“Was it serious?” Reid asked.
“Yeah, I believe it was, but she broke it off and he wouldn’t leave her alone. She finally got a restraining order against him a couple months ago. She had to move pharmacies too.”
“Pharmacies?” Jane questioned.
“They worked at the same pharmacy and she had to transfer to a different one to avoid him,” she clarified.
“Which pharmacy was that?”
“The Walgreens one on Lebanon Road.”
The pair stood up. “Alright, thank you for your time, Mrs. Scott.”
They exited the house and headed back to the vehicle. Reid pulled out his phone and called Garcia, putting it on speaker phone.
“What can I do for you, boy and girl wonder?”
“Garcia, can you see which pharmacies the victims used?” Jane asked.
“Of course I can, love. Just give me a sec….all of them went to the Walgreens on Lebanon Road.”
“Can you see if a Corey Jones is working right now?” Reid asked.
“He is indeed, Tarzan,” she confirmed after a moment of searching.
“Tarzan?”
“Oh come on. Tarzan and Jane?”
Spencer and Jane shared a look and Jane said, “Bye, Garcia.” before reaching over and hanging up the phone. “We need to call Hotch. The rest of the team is closer.”
They called him and informed them all about what they learned. While the rest of the team went to arrest Jones, Reid and Addison headed back to the station to work on a geographic profile. They still needed to find Kali Scott.
When they brought Jones in, Rossi and Morgan interrogated him. Hotch, Reid, and Jane watched from outside the room. So far, Jones refused to say a word to them.
“This is going nowhere. He’s never going to tell them where she is,” Jane pointed out.
“Just trust them,” Reid told her.
She let out a groan of frustration and turned to Hotch. “Let me talk to him.”
“What? No!” Reid protested.
“Please, Hotch!”
“You’ve never interrogated anyone before!” Reid pointed out.
“Well, there’s a first time for everything! Their tactics aren’t working. Maybe a different one will.”
Both looked at Hotch expectantly.
“Alright,” he said. He went over to the door and knocked, telling Morgan and Rossi to come out.
Reid touched Jane’s arm and she turned to him. “I don’t want you in there with him,” he insisted.
“Cause I look like the victims? I’ll have Hotch with me. He can’t hurt me. I’ll be fine, trust me!”
He sighed and took a step back, allowing her to follow Hotch into the room. Hotch remained in the back of the room while Jane took a seat across from Jones.
“Well hello there, beautiful. Who might you be?” Jones asked, speaking for the first time since he was brought in.
“My name is Dr. Addison,” she introduced herself.
“Hello, doctor. You can examine me all you want. Maybe you’ll let me examine you too,” he smirked.
“I hate this guy,” Reid growled, watching from outside the room.
“Calm down, man,” Morgan warned him. “She can handle it.”
“What happened with Kali?” Jane asked Jones.
He scoffed and leaned back in his chair. “Like I’d tell you where she is.”
“I didn’t ask you where she is. I asked what happened,” Jane clarified.
His eyes narrowed. “I’m not sure what you mean.”
“I mean what happened between the two of you before all of this occurred? You were so close, inseparable. You had moved in together, I bet you were even considering buying a ring soon.” He looked away. “You did buy a ring, didn’t you? You proposed and she said no.”
“I did everything for her and made that night perfect! It was supposed to be the perfect night; low lit room with no noise other than crickets around us, the moon peering through the cracks of the wood, and she said no.”
“She did, but you couldn’t believe it. You were in denial. You pretended as if it never happened and you were still together. You wouldn’t leave her alone until one day she gave you a restraining order and you were forced to take to other methods. If she wouldn’t be yours voluntarily, she’d have to be forced.”
He leaned forward. “You’ll never find her. I’m not charged with anything. I can’t be held here forever.”
“I think we’re done here.” Jane got up and exited the room, Hotch following after her.
“What good did that do?” Reid questioned as they exited the room.
Her brow furrowed. “I thought you would have caught on and called Garcia by now.” She pulled out her phone and called up the tech genius. “Hey Garcia, does Corey Jones own any rural property?” she asked.
“No, he does not,” she informed them.
“What about family members? Parents, siblings…”
“Looks like his parents owned an acreage. When they died, it remained vacant. Sending address now.”
“Thanks, Garcia.”
“But how did you-” Reid began.
“He told me where to look by describing the proposal night,” Jane explained. They began to head towards the SUVs. “Low light, cricket sounds, cracks in the wood,” she listed. “He proposed in a barn and it’s likely that’s where he’s been keeping Kali.”
“Alright! Girl wonder figures something out before boy wonder can,” Morgan teased.
“Morgan, not the time,” Jane scolded.
JJ met the rest of the team at the SUVs and they all climbed in, racing off to the location Garcia sent them.
They were able to find Kali Scott alive in the barn, just as Jane had predicted. Kali confirmed that it was Jones who had abducted her and they were able to charge him, putting an end to the case.
In A Witch We Don’t Trust
“Boo! I’m a ghost!” Niall exclaimed and giggled adorably.
Liam, Zayn, Louis and Harry looked at him completely smitten and in awe of what he was capable of.
“You look amazing, love” Liam praised and Louis could only nod. Harry agreed by saying so and Zayn went over to Niall, took him into his arms and carried him while explaining: “And you can fly.”
Or: OT5 go trick or treating which ends in a witch cursing them.
30th October 2018
The mall was filled to the brim by people shopping for Halloween decorations, costumes and all sorts of candy. Of course it was - there was only one day left until Halloween and America was known to go all the way at that special time of the year.
Children were pulling at their parents’ hands and tugging them towards the next shop to try and find the best costume ever while other adults were walking around on their own and searching for decorations to decorate their house the spookiest in their neighbourhood. It was the same last year and the year before that but it didn’t matter because last year’s costume or decoration or whatever they decided to buy last year was old and had to be newly purchased.
Right in between those groups of people were five young adults, boys really, who walked behind each other like a family of ducks.
In the front a blonde man, seemingly the youngest and smallest. His blue eyes were focused on the biggest shop to sell costumes and he was eagerly shoving through the mass of people while holding hands with the slightly taller, brown-haired man behind him. Said second in this weird chain of people send a glare at everyone who looked at them weirdly but every time his eyes focused back on the blonde boy in front of him, the glare vanished and its place took an overly fond look. The third one was a tan boy with absent-looking, dark brown eyes, obviously just following and letting himself being dragged around to wherever they ended up. The fourth one had brown eyes as well but muscular arms. Even though he looked like a bear more than a man, he smiled at every person who passed them and nodded in greeting. Then the last one was the tallest, almost hovering above the other four and thanks to his long, brown locks he resembled Tarzan a little bit too well. His green eyes were focused on his feet, obviously trying to not trip over them and taking the other four down with him.
They were all holding hands and built a chain that way.
The blonde one in the front took a look over his shoulder and sighed at seeing the boys with such a lack of motivation.
“You guys are no fun! If we don’t hurry, then all the good costumes will be gone and we have to wear trash bags or something” he whined which made the other boys chuckle.
“I mean” the second boy in the chain started, “there’s only one day left. We’ll be lucky if we find anything at all. The good costumes will be gone by now for sure.”
“Yeah, and whose fault is that, Lou?” the third one asked and rolled his eyes.
“Ehm, excuse me? Are you really saying it’s my fault, Mr sleep-until-the-shops-are-closed-Malik?” ‘Lou’ countered and sent a glare over his shoulder.
Before the tanner boy had the chance to answer, the bear-looking man opened his mouth and tried to calm the other two down. “Now, now, boys. We don’t want to argue right now. We could’ve gotten our costumes days ago but neither of us thought about it. We’ll find something. Don’t worry, Nialler” he said and addressed the blonde boy in the front who managed a smile and turned back to face the store they were heading over to.
The tallest boy frowned. “I wouldn’t mind wearing a trash bag” he said and the other four groaned and Lou couldn’t hold back an annoyed “Harry!” to which Harry answered a confused “What?”
They finally managed to squeeze through all the people and were now entering the store. Knowing they would end up looking for costumes of different categories, they let go of each other’s hands and went in different directions, promising to meet up at the checkout as soon as they found their costume for this year’s Halloween.
You might think: Hey, you said they were young adults. Why are they still dressing up? And are you implying they’ll go trick or treating? We’ll, yes my dear friend. That’s exactly what I’m trying to write over here. But to be completely honest with you: Louis, Zayn, Liam and Harry - the ones walking behind Niall, the blonde one - only decided to participate in this yearly event because of Niall who was the youngest and the most childish - not in a bad way but in an overly adorable way - of their group. But that’s what you do when you’re completely smitten with someone. You do whatever it takes to make them happy and there was nothing they wanted more than to make their Nialler happy.
Despite thinking there were no costumes left for them, all of them found something they were somewhat happy with. What exactly each of them bought was a secret they wanted to keep until the next day though. They wanted to surprise each other by revealing their costumes in full glory, with the make-up and shoes, the clothes and the accessories.
Niall was persistent enough to talk the boys into buying the costumes one after the other and the others had to wait a few meters away from the cash register to prevent the other ones from even catching a glance at the costume. He took the whole ordeal very serious.
It took them 15 minutes to complete their purchases but after that they left the store. This time they didn’t need to hold hands, seeing as it was now late in the afternoon and most people already left to go home and eat dinner.
Niall was walking in the middle with Louis and Harry on one side and Liam and Zayn on the other. He was happily skipping along while the other four were looking at him fondly.
Now, their relationship was a little hard to explain. They weren’t just friends but ‘relationship’ was too big of a word for them. It was more like Liam, Zayn, Harry and Louis were best friends while Niall was also their best friends but something more. The four older boys couldn’t deny the crushes they had on the blonde boy and they were overly affectionate towards the youngest while Niall loved the other four boys equally as much.
They knew each other since they were children and growing up, Zayn, Louis, Harry and Liam have learnt to ‘share’ Niall in a healthy kind of way while also coming accustomed to the fact that Niall needed a lot of attention, despite being only a year younger than Harry who was the second youngest. On the other hand, Niall grew up with amazing best friends who were protective over him and learnt to love one of them just as much as the other three.
It wasn’t surprising for their families when the boys announced they’d move in together after they’ve graduated from school but they were a bit disappointed about the fact that they wanted to move to a different state which wasn’t surprising because parents usually wanted to keep their children close.
Just as they stepped outside the mall did they notice how cold it’s gotten. They’ve been at the mall for a little under two hours but autumn wasn’t playing any games and the weather changed as fast as Niall changed his clothes a day - which was a lot of times.
Harry was the first to notice the youngest’s shivers and went to take off his coat that he then draped over Niall’s shoulders who looked up at him gratefully.
“Thank you, Haz” he said and giggled while snuggling into the warmth of the soft material.
Harry beamed with happiness. “No problem, Ni” he said proudly.
One thing they decided on not buying when they moved in together was a car. They didn’t need one because they were living in a city and were able to reach everything by foot or with their bikes and if they needed to go somewhere a bit farther away they could use the subway, the bus or just the train. They had no difficulties getting around the city.
The mall was about a 10 minute walk away from their house and because of that they decided to walk.
“Is there anything else we need to but? Do we have enough candy for when we’re back home tomorrow for the children?” Liam asked thoughtfully while going over their supplies in his head.
“Unless someone ate all of our candy, we should be fine, I guess.” Zayn’s voice was light but his eyes were studying Louis who already knew that Zayn expected him to eat all their food. Zayn and Louis were best friends but they also loved to argue.
“Then you’ll be glad to hear that I haven’t eaten anything sweet this last week. I’m saving myself for Halloween, thank you very much” he explained calmly and Niall laughed at that.
“You sound like you want to keep your virginity until you’re married, Lou” the blonde boy wheezed and bent over. That was another thing the boys loved about Niall: he was such a carefree person who laughed about the smallest jokes and loved the littlest things the world had to offer.
“Sadly, I’m not a virgin anymore, Nialler.” Louis smirked and Niall blushed, knowing where it went.
Zayn rolled his eyes and Harry looked away, humming a soft tune. Liam was the one to change the topic and to, thankfully, destroy the awkward moment. “We’ll, I’m pretty sure we’ve got everything we need and unless there’s something important missing, we should be okay the next two days without leaving the house. Besides trick or treating tomorrow.”
Niall fist bumped the air. “Yes! I’m so excited! I don’t even know why but it’ll be amazing seeing you all wearing your outfits and then all the people who’ll see us and think how incredible we look. It’s gonna be great.”
They laughed and continued walking home, making little clouds of fog appear every time they breathed out.
Soon they arrived in front of their small house. It was a nice-looking neighbourhood, despite it being a city and all and instead of big skyscrapers there were many smaller houses lined up next to each other and going a long way down the road. Their house was located relatively nearby to the city centre but it wasn’t any less nice than the others.
There was a short footpath towards their front door which was painted a nice blue colour that Niall picked while the rest of the house was made out of white-painted wood. A hollywood swing was placed on the veranda in front of the house that was decorated with all kinds of Halloween decorations. Some spiderwebs here and there with the occasional plastic spider in it, fairy lights that weren’t very scary looking but Zayn made sure they put them up as well and - the most important thing - five jack-o-lanterns lined the footpath. Two bis ones on one side and three smaller, but still big, ones on the other side.
Almost three hours were spent creating them just one day ago but in the end they were pretty happy with how they turned out and placed them proudly in front of their house. Harry had spied on a few people who were studying the pumpkins in the morning and nodded appreciatively. Not that anybody saw him.
As soon as they entered their home, they took off their boots and left them by the door on the drying mat. Autumn had brought wet weather and while the colours of the leaves were the prettiest thing ever, they loved to glue themselves to the soles of the shoes like... well, glue and it was messy.
“Cant wait to light up the chimney” Harry sighed and threw the bag which contained his costume next to the couch to the floor.
There was no hallway in the downstairs part of the house. After entering the house you stood in the living/dining room with a walkthrough to the kitchen. Next to those two rooms, there was a guest bathroom and the laundry downstairs. Upstairs, there were two bedrooms - one was for guests they never had and one was for them which they shared because sleeping alone had never crossed their minds ever before. There was one massive bed for them to sleep in and while there was no order for who slept where, it was usually Niall in the middle. The last room was a bathroom with two sinks, a toilet and a bathtub. Very eventful but it was more than enough.
“Harry! You can’t just throw your costume on the ground like that! What if it’s crinkled now?” Niall burst out and glared at Harry playfully.
“But... the chimney” Harry whined but stood up again to take the bag up to their room. Niall followed behind the tallest.
“Niall’s got us all wrapped around his finger” Louis sighed, set down his own bag on the couch and knelt down next to the chimney to light it up.
Zayn just nodded while Liam chuckled and said: “But we secretly love it.”
The urge to put on his costume and walk around their neighbourhood was there since Niall woke up in the morning and the other four boys were barely able to hold him back but by telling him things like “it doesn’t make fun if it’s not dark outside” or “the neighbours might not have their candy ready yet” they were able to calm him down a little.
Now it was late enough though and the blonde boy was jumping up and down excitedly, asking if they could finally start dressing up now. Liam told him that yes, he could but he had to wait for the other four to finish dressing up.
Niall, not liking the idea of having to wait for someone who doesn’t take this as serious as he does, nodded annoyed and sprinted up the stairs into his room. The banging of the bedroom door made Harry jump and Louis laugh at seeing his friend being so skittish.
“We should get ready as well” Zayn said and Liam nodded.
“Yeah, don’t let the kid wait” he joked and snorted afterwards. The others nodded and together they went up the stairs into their respective rooms.
30 minutes later - putting the costumes and make-up on took longer than expected - found Louis strolling down the stairs. He’s the first to be completely ready and he kind of liked his costume very much.
Arriving at the bottom of the stairs, he realised the others weren’t there yet which made him sigh in annoyance. He’d never say it out loud but he liked Halloween very much. Maybe not as much as Niall but that seemed impossible anyways. Or it was the candy that made this day so special to him, seeing as he had quiet the sweet tooth.
Finally, after 2 minutes of waiting on his side, one of the bedroom doors opened and the stairs creeked. It was Harry walking down the stairs in his costume and - Louis broke into laughter.
“Really Harold? Why did you even dress up? Your costume would’ve worked without those gloves” he cackled and made Harry frown.
“What do you mean? Do you not like it?” the brown-haired boy asked and looked down to study his outfit. Now, to be honest: his clothes didn’t change all that much. His top had only three buttons buttoned up, showing his tattoos and abs and the little bit of chest hair he had. His black skinny jeans had various holes in it - not only in the knee area but all around. On his feet he wore some very hairy shoes with toes at the front of it and gloves on his hands resembling a wolf’s claws. Within the mess of his long, curly hair, Louis could see two wolf ears peaking through and yeah - Harry was a very good looking werewolf.
Louis cleared his throat. “No, I kind of like it. It suits you” he admitted and a blush spread across his cheeks.
“Thank you” Harry preened. Then he studied Louis’ appearance. “I think you look pretty good as well.”
Louis laughed again. “It’s okay, you can be honest. I know it’s not the best costume.”
“No, no. I actually love it and you even got the ring. That’s an impressive thing to wear” Harry hurriedly said and gestured towards the ring Louis was wearing on the necklace around his throat.
Well, dressing up as Frodo Baggins is pretty iconic if you’re about 5’6 and the big, hairy feet, which were funnily enough similar to Harry’s, were looking hilarious on Louis. But the green of the cloak went amazingly well with Louis’ brown hair and blue eyes.
“That’s very nice of you to say, Harold. I take it as a compliment even though I can see right through you. Now, where are the other three? I want to prank some old neighbours” Louis said with a glint to his eyes.
It made Harry look at him warily but their conversation was cut short when there were two other bedroom doors being opened upstairs and Liam and Zayn came downstairs.
Zayn was - well, very handsome which wasn’t anything new really but his costume made him look taller and dramatically even more mysterious looking. The long, black coat that hid his whole body almost completely and the natural tan of his skin made the fake teeth almost blending to look at. And the thing was - the vampire teeth didn’t look fake at all! So glisteningly white and human-looking, apart from the length and sharpness, it was almost scary.
To add to the spookiness, he had styled his hair into a short quiff and Harry and Louis had to take another look to realise they didn’t just imagine the red contact lenses that were shining in his eyes instead of the chocolately brown they usually sported.
“I’m Dracula” he said nonchalantly and without any emotion in his voice. While is was horrifying, the others had to laugh about his performance.
Then, after Zayn, came Liam.
“Where the fuck did you learn to put on make-up like that?!” Louis screeches and made big eyes.
“Hm, I watched a YouTube video which explains step after step how you do it. It wasn’t that difficult to be honest.” It doesn’t look like it hasn’t been difficult. Liam wore a grey suit with a tie. His hair wasn’t very different to the way it usually is, styled up into a quiff. But the skin that was on display was rather impressive to look at. If you know the video game ‘Detroit: Become Human’ and know what an android looks like without their skin activated - yes, that’s how Liam looked at the moment. With the small LED light on the right side of his face and said grey suit, everybody who knew the game would see that he dresses up as Connor. As if on cue, Liam said:
“I’m Connor, the android sent by cyber life.”
While saying the catchphrase he wore a brilliant smile and took out the calibration coin Connor uses often.
“That looks amazing, Li” Harry exclaimed and couldn’t shut his mouth in excitement.
“Thank you.” Liam looked down while blushing and Zayn bumped his shoulder gently.
“Now, where is our leprechaun?” Louis asked and, after a moment of thought, he added: “I hope he doesn’t dress up as leprechaun. That would be too obvious.”
“Hey, he can dress up as anything he likes, even if it’s a leprechaun. That’d be pretty adorable in my opinion” Liam scolded and Harry nodded in agreement.
Just then the last bedroom door opened with a creak  and all four heads turned to the stairs, waiting for the youngest boy to come down.
If they praised Liam for his make-up skills, they must’ve thought Niall invented make-up or something. Niall wore a white, skintight onesie, only his hands and head weren’t covered. He has changed his hair colour to white, his eyes were framed by deep, dark circles and the most impressive thing was the way he had painted his body in a way that made him look slightly blurry and a tiny bit translucent and okay - how did he DO that?
It was obvious he wasn’t a leprechaun but a-
“Boo! I’m a ghost!” Niall exclaimed and giggled adorably.
Liam, Zayn, Louis and Harry looked at him completely smitten and in awe of what he was capable of.
“You look amazing, love” Liam praised and Louis could only nod. Harry agreed by saying so and Zayn went over to Niall, took him into his arms and carried him while explaining: “And you can fly.”
They all had a laugh and a few minutes later, Zayn put the smallest boy back down.
“Right, where are our buckets?” Niall asked, referring to the plastic pumpkins they bought for the candy they’d get.
“In the laundry room, I think. Wait, I’ll get them” Harry volunteered and left for a few minutes. He came back with the five bucket which he handed out to the guys, a smile on all of their faces.
Finally, they were ready to go, so they looked at each other, making sure they had everything they needed and then went over to the front door.
“I’m so excited” Niall yelled, bursting Zayn’s eardrums because he was standing right next to him.
“Oh really? I wouldn’t have guessed” Louis said humourlessly and Harry sent him a warning glare which Louis then returned by smiling apologetically.
“That’s great, Nialler. Lead the way” Liam broke through the awkward silence and Niall, not having heard the words Louis had said, opened the front door eagerly and stormed into the night. His white appearance helping the other four boys keeping him within sight. Liam, being the responsible one, was the last to leave the house, closing the door softly behind himself and locking it.
It would be the last time he did so for a while.
Berwick
So I’ve been applying for this camp, through work for the last four years or so, and this year, after almost deciding that I didn’t need it anymore, I got picked to go. It is based in the Berwick Forest, 40km out of Dunedin in May which usually would sound like a whole lot of miserable to me (as I am a sad sack throughout most of Winter) but for some reason I was keen to go.
Arriving at an empty airport in Dunedin and realising I had been left behind was a shit start that really made me question if I had made the right choice. But that was the last time I had that thought. I got picked up by one of the Lions Club members eventually and dropped at the camp where everyone was already sitting in their ‘watches’ with their GP lines and beanies. I was in Green watch which suited me fab, my fav colour. I immediately was thrown into the team building exercise where we were writing a story about a hole in a balloon. It’s interesting thinking back now to those people I met, and how those relationships changed and grew over the 8 days I was there.
My watch was made up of Moe (said Moy) (60s), Mark (60s), Julie (50s), Myself (26), Max (24), Erin (21), Kohan (19), William (18), Mikayla (18) & Harry (18). Such a range of people from all walks of life.
I’d miss the orientation session, along with Charlie and Morgan from Trustpower so we briefly sat down and went through this before heading to our bunks. Being last meant I got a top bunk - which I was fine with as it meant I was closer to the warmth (and farts I guess).
We woke EARLY the next morning, about 5.40am to bagpipes blasting outside our room. I freaking love bagpipes so this actually put me in such a good mood. We got dressed and headed to our first activity which was like a brain teaser type activity in the common room. It was far too early for me to be able to contribute anything useful  and I’m pretty shit at these types of things anyway so was happy to let the team lead us to success! Finally at 7 we got breakfast, typical camp style lining up for cereals, toasts, porridge the works. I went hard out of fear of not eating again for a long time and a huge day ahead. Before I knew it we were kitted up in our wetsuits heading to our first big activity - Kayaking. Now I’m not really for or against Kayaking. Can be fun, sometimes it’s just boring so I was keen to see what they had planned. We started in a pool, the tiny, local community pool that used to be used by a school that was now shut down. The water was ice. I wore my socks in. They made us do flips in the kayaks and taught us how to safely exit if we did flip on the river.
Then we were in the river. I had chosen my paddle and kayak that I felt would suit me best, plus they were perfectly colour coordinated so thought I was away for the win. We had barely disembarked before one of our watch Will, had fallen out of his kayak. He was complaining it was too small and hard to maneuver. Me being the good Samaritan *coughs* offered him mine. This was my first mistake and lesson learnt. Never be nice. His kayak was tiny, it took me 3 goes to get in the damn thing without falling out. I was wearing my sneakers (as the river was colder than the pool) and I was incredibly cramped and uncomfortable the whole river journey. To my dismay when I fell out on a turn, I was trapped by my sneaker and spent a good 3 minutes flailing about until Will caught up and was able to help me out. Overall it was still fun though. When I had to get out of the kayak at one point to - kiss the front (the things these instructors made you do) I bruised both legs and by the end of the float (due to falling out so much) I was a freezing, shivering mess. But I DID IT. I think they were worried about hypothermia though as they sent me straight to the van where the heater was blasting.
We headed back to lunch which was sandwiches and hot pies. God I love a good pie. So delightful. Then we had tea prep so I spent the next hour peeling & chopping carrots with Mikayla.
Straight into Knots & the Confidence course after lunch. I gotta say, I am possibly the worst knot tier in the history of the planet. I had to be shown about 300 times before it stuck and then the next day I still couldn’t tell you what the damn knots were called. Lucky I had a watch full of able humans who had done guides and were just onto it to help me through the rest of the week where knots were ESSENTIAL to survival! The confidence course was fun. The very first part was a tyre wall which I felt very prepared for after spending Intermediate sitting on the tyre wall at lunch times. I must admit, once I was at the top I was still abit shaky/nervous going over the top. Even more so when we had to carry a bucket full of water over too! Erin struggled with this one, she just would not budge at one point, saying her arms/legs were giving up, bawling her eyes out and Leanne (one of our instructors) would not let her give up. She made it over and I’m glad, but I definitely had a moment of - this feels like bullying. It just shows you though, some people need it. The rest of the course was pretty tame, tarzan ropes onto walls, that sort of jam. It wasn’t until the last bit - a firemans pole that I got a bit nervous again. I don’t know what it is about them but they freak me out. This one was exceptionally high too! Leanne was there giving me technique and before I knew it I was at the bottom. Embarrassed at how easy it was! Unfortunately Moe, was close on my tail and did it straight after me without any technique and sped to the bottom where she snapped her ankle in three places. I got to do First Aid, but poor Moe was gutted. Her ankle did the floppy thing like Harry’s arm in Harry Potter. It was pretty gross but intriguing. She was in no pain! Just shock I guess. Ironically that night after dinner, we had our First Aid training. I was in bed by 9 and asleep by 9.01 for sure. Absolutely shattered.
Day two! We had games first thing from 6am-7am. Again, puzzles in the morning, not my forte. Esp not before kai. After breakfast we had toilet duties which is always a barrel of laughs right? Then on to abseiling. This was based at camp. The hill to the top was a bit of a bitch to get to but abseiling was fun! We did it three times, the third time blind folded. Beef was our instructor. He was a spunk. After lunch we were back on to knots and bush craft which I don’t overly remember doing but again I think this is because I was hopeless at it and all the knots seemed the same to me. Looking at the schedule it’s hard to believe that this took up most of the afternoon. I remember we had to pull a pole somewhere and tow a truck though. Then Dinner, then night exercise. This one was us carrying a massive heavy pole from one side of the camp to the other as a team. It wasn’t awesome. The walk back under the stars was lovely though.
Monday was our first sports session - Netball. I loved it. It made me think how some days I would just play netball and that’s all the exercise I would do.... this was just the first thing for the day! Our team lost, JUST. But our commitment and passion was 10/10! Next was mountain biking which I was super excited for but MAN it was hard. We got kitted up with bikes/helmets and then did some practice stuff on the icy grass/mud. We then headed up the hill. I could bike up all of 2 minutes as it was steep AF. Everyone had to get off and walk most of it. We learnt how to jump logs and break/maneuver down steep hills. I came off the bike twice, one time landing on another stationary bike but it was so awesome! Then we got to boost down the hill. It was SO fast. I felt alive. I loved it. 100% Mountain biker for life.
After lunch we were back into it with a ‘Bridge Exercise’ - they gave us tiny hints to what we were doing throughout the course - but they never really helped. This was intense. When we realized what we had to do, get from one side of the bridge, underneath it and come up on the other side - there was a lot of planning involved. And actually doing it, (and trusting your teams knots) was pretty crazy! We aren’t allowed to share photos of this and I didn’t get any, any way but this was such a cool challenge. After dinner our night exercise this night was hilarious. We were all blindfolded and either had to lead or direct our watch around camp. It was pretty freaky putting your trust in strangers this way, especially at night. I DID end up in a swamp. But it was so fun. Making the most of our other senses and what not. Pretty cool. And just when we thought we were finally done for the night, blindfolds off. I hear this blood-curdling scream and Leanne comes racing up to us in full diva/drunk actor mode yelling about how she pushed her brother ‘Eric’ off a cliff and he’s dying at the bottom. So off we trot following her to save Eric. I got the fun task of taking care of drunk Leanne who was going on about popping cherries, working her ‘night job’ and the likes. Much to Harry’s disgust as Leanne is his mums best friend. So entertaining. Finally with Eric stretchered back to camp and bandaged we were allowed to go to bed.
Tuesday Tramp Day! This was what I was most nervous about, a 15km tramp through the wilderness. Seemed like not far but boy was it ever. It took us 12 hours. We went the wrong way twice and not just a few steps like probably 2-3kms each time. No instructors, reception, just a map (that wasn’t the best if I may add!) The majority of the tramp was up hill and it was hard. Erin couldn’t hack it. She got blisters day one and the whole tramp (before she got taken out) she was moaning about them and stopping every 20 steps. It meant we moved incredibly slow - I didn’t really get a chance to get tired. She was though. I felt sad for her because everyone was tired/sore in some way and she couldn’t just push herself. Anyway, she got taken out with Max, who was borderline collapsing at every turn and then we could pick up the pace. By 7.30pm it was dark, cold and we were so over it. By 8.30 we were finally at The Hilton, exhausted and starving. I ate mince boiled with instant mash potato and peas. It looked like spew but I devoured it. Then I went to bed, it’s possibly one of the worst huts I’ve stayed in. Made New Beers look like a resort. But I slept solidly.
Wednesday we were up early to make our way to the Mahinerangi Dam. Damn son. It was huge. We had lunch first - chicken AND ham luncheon sandwiches - just bread and butter no shit, dried apricots and a cup-a-soup. Gourmet I tell you. We set up our tents, wet and dirty from the previous 2 watches and then got set up for our dam abseil. First one, no biggy, no dramas for me. Second one... I’m not quite sure what happened but I was afraid. I didn’t realise I wasn’t going to be able to use my feet and would just have to lower myself down. I think the shock of that suddenly happening just set me off and I burst into tears. Sobbed the whole dam way down. Need any more damn puns? Damn. Others didn’t do the second one, but Harry and Max went all profesh on us, bouncing off the walls like Spiderman. Show offs.
After the dam activities, we were off for another wetties exercise. Raft building. Each team member had to sail out to the island and back without getting our lines wet or drownies. It was actually a really easy task and we finished it so early we had heaps of free time. FREE TIME!? At Berwick? NEVER. I went and set up my tent, I got nominated to tent with the boys as we only had 3 person tents plus we wanted to avoid the snorers (Mark, Will, Max, Erin...) Kohan, in my tent didn’t bring a bed roll, so Harry and I ended up putting our two together and sharing. We played some president which I was excellent at for once. We had some snacks, then went and made dinner. Pasta packets - Mac & Cheese. This was actually pretty tasty. I ate heaps! After dinner we had another activity. Learning to use a GPS. They are super legit - who knew!? And Geo-caching is a thing. I’m 26 and I’d never heard of this, but people leave notes for other people around the world to find. It’s like a world-wide treasure hunt! So cool! Thankfully we got to have an early night and headed back to the tent. I slept in full gear - beanie, puffer jacket, merinos, socks - the works and was still shivering. I’m actually so glad there was no way of knowing how cold it was that night but there was ice on our tent in the morning.
Thursday was another 4 hour tramp back to camp. We got lost... again and were late getting back. We went straight into lunch then an Initiative course. This was probably the best ever. Or maybe it was just I remember it so well as it was near the end of the week. It was loads of team-based activities that weren’t physically demanding but just hilarious and you had to use your brain and trust your homies to succeed. I got heaved over walls, thrown through ‘spider webs’, held my fingers against holes in a giant drum while the team filled it with water #frozenfingers. I had to sit on Harrys shoudlers  so we could all fit onto this platform after swinging across a mudpit. We then had to dive into another mudpit/lake, do a massive flying fox, ropes again and more. Dinner, then more sport afterwards. Cricket, which would have been amazing except it was inside and you couldn’t smash it so I got out pretty quickly. Had a few successful bowls however.
Friday morning we had more sport - football (lame but fun for others) then breakfast and cleaning. Everyone was back from the tramps Friday and we were on dinner so had to prepare a shit tonne for the ‘’roast meal’ (8 Roast Beefs!). It was a huge job. Then we were off for our ‘river exercise’ which we were told - all being well you shouldn’t get wet. I have to admit by this point, I had very little clothing left and reaaaallly didn’t want to get wet if I could avoid it. So when our first team mate came across the river and dropped to the side, a sodden mess- I was hugely disappointed. I think this was the only task we actually had to ask an instructor for help. We had to be split into two groups on each side of the river and using our ropes (not getting them wet) we had to get each team member to the other side of the river and back. Thankfully, by the time I had to go across, not only was I being pulled back and forth #noeffortrequired but I did not touch the river with any part of my body! Great success! Harry got dunked which was sad for him but hilarious for everyone else. Back to camp for a quick lunch then we had another group activity (bridge building) and then orienteering. Both were fun, but orienteering took us ages! Makayla, Harry and I were in a team and these two just spent the time waffling. I had to be mother hen quite frequently to keep them on the job at hand! We played some truth or dare which was great on my part because I am an excellent question master and kept orienteering fun, but it was cool because you got to explore the whole camp. I saw a baby wild pig! And there was probably 3 times total I said over the course - surely they wouldn’t make us go up/down/through there.... alas, it was the right way. When we finally got back, Kev the instructor was on his way out to us to check we weren’t dead. Dinner was a bit emotional as it was our last night... then we had to go do our performance ‘Welcome to Berwick’. It was in the tune to ‘My House’ by Flo Rida and our watches show was definitely the best. We even had backing music... just saying. After that we all headed back to the rooms to spend time together before lights off as I knew I had an earlier flight Sat morning and wouldn’t get to do the last relay or wind down drinks/BBQ. Harry was quite distraught. He was crying and saying he didn’t want to leave and that Makayla and I were his best friends and I was just amazing. It was all quite overwhelming for me. I loved these two, so easily and quickly in this weird environment we’d been thrust in - but I guess for me I had a lot of friends, Chris and life to go back to and neither of them didn’t have quite that. So I will try be good friends to them both, because I think they need that. I know they’re gonna do great things. It’s exciting to watch.
Saturday morning was spent cleaning, trying to find all my shit and then a few tears saying goodbyes (even from me! Shock Horror!) Kev drove me away in the van and it was hard leaving. I really could have stayed there another week or more I think. I just loved it.The truth is I really didn’t miss home that much, I was too tired or busy... I didn’t think I had missed Chris even until I saw him and burst into tears. Now being back, it’s hard to explain how life-changing and inspirational it was. I feel like a dick talking to people about it and saying that that’s exactly what it was for me but people don’t really get it unless they’ve been. I LOVED not using my phone or having it anywhere near me, I LOVED the people I met and stories we shared, I LOVED being outside, being dirty and being completely me without anyone's expectations. I loved learning all these new skills and really pushing myself and then finding out how awesome I could be!
Finally, I must admit though, I LOVED coming home to an ice cold bourbon with Chris too. #OGhobby
