i’m so tired of being endlessly faced with unending cruelty no matter where i go online. i just want to be a kid again. too naive to feel so hopeless and too innocent to know that what i’ve just heard was a rape joke. before everyone was so fucking jaded. before andrew tate and before don’t say gay and before i decided i would never go outside again because im so scared of what’s out there
i wanna be a kid on club penguin inviting other kids to look at how i decorated my igloo. i want to go on forums for pokémon and my little pony and talk about how much i love meowth and how fluttershy is best pony. i want to go on minecraft servers and tpa to people’s creative plots to do a skin competition or collect youtubers heads in head shops. i want to go on deviantart and look at gumball ocs and users with licking cat emoticons as their profile pictures.
i want to be able to make friends everywhere i go online. i want to be able to scroll five minutes without hearing about why everyone’s gonna die in five years. i want to be able to go outside without being terrified of everyone on the street because it’s been drilled into me that everyone and everything is a threat.
and i’m sure someone will come after me. say these are my white tears at having to face an ounce of struggle in my life
i don’t care anymore. clearly, nobody will ever care about other people ever again, so why should i even try.
fuck the internet. fuck america. fuck other people. fuck the fact that i can’t help but care about other people.
i just want to be happy.

The Roger Pirates are on my mind 24/7. If everything goes to plan I'll be writing about them soon again 😊
In the meantime, I remembered a season-relevant fic so I thought I'd share it here, too ! I wrote this one 6 years ago already, wow 👀 And the Shanks x Buggy brainrot is still strong, who would have guessed ?

☕ Hot chocolate ☕
Holidays, at last ! When the schoolbell rings for the last time on a certain mid-december Friday, it doesn't last long before the kids storm out in a cacophony of joy. It's been snowing steadily for a little more than a week and it leaves a solid layer on the playground outside, even if middle-schoolers aren't the best at keeping it that way... Here a brown-haired boy is busy collecting as much snow as possible to make an igloo ; there a girl wearing glasses is making snow rabbits instead of snow men.
Already making his way towards the exit, a certain red-haired kid calls for his friend. "Oi, Buggy, let's go to the park !"
"But the rest of our friends are here...", the other complains.
He smiles, goes to him and grabs his hand. "Come on, there will be much more snow, we could make a snow giant or something else, it'll be better". He flashes his best smile, hoping he's convincing enough.
Buggy secures his beanie atop his head, thinking for a moment, humming. Suddenly there's a decided look on his face and he grins at Shanks, "Alright. Last at the park buys hot chocolate." And with that he starts running.
Shanks chuckles but shortly follows him, he's always been the fastest but these days his blue-haired friend gets better. Testament to that, he wins by mere seconds, out of breath. Leaning heavily on the first bench inside the park, he exhales, smiling, "Ha-, free chocolate."
Buggy grunts but doesn't comment, instead crouches on the snowy ground. He takes a handful of snow, starts packing it in the palm of his gloved hand, and before the other has the chance to register anything he throws it right in his face. "Gotcha !", he exclaims, and with that he runs to hide behind the bushes decorating the alley, laughing hard but already preparing new ammunition.
Shanks shakes his head, getting rid of the cold water threatening to get past his hair and his scarf – he hates being cold – but quickly recovers and starts making snowballs of his own. They exchange a few blows but nothing too dramatic until Shanks gets retaliation and hits Buggy right in the face, earning a pained yelp. He cackles at his friend's dismay, and throws him a well deserved "Gotcha !"
Buggy furiously rubs his nose and shouts, "That hurts you bastard !"
Shanks tilts his head in interrogation, it's not like he put rocks in his snowballs so it's not supposed to hurt that much. He walks towards his friend to check on him, "Hey, you okay ?"
The blue-haired boy – his beanie tilted a bit when he received the snowball so a few hair strands are getting out of it – lowers his hands from his face and grunts, not sure if he wants to play anymore.
Shanks stares at him, wide-eyed, and erupts in laughter.
"What is wrong with you ?", Buggy grimaces.
Between laughs, the other manages to say "You-Your nose is so red... you look like a-a clown !"
Now Buggy's really pissed. He stutters "Wh-What was that ?", but before allowing Shanks to answer he catches him by the collar and starts wrestling with him. They fight and roll in the snow until Buggy's on top, securing Shanks's hands with his own, "Heh ! Gotcha !"
Shanks smiles sheepishly, "Alright, alright, I'm sorry." He looks curiously at Buggy then adds, "But does it still hurt ?"
Buggy opens his mouth to answer but before a single sound is out Shanks lifts his head up and kisses his nose. Now it's his turn to be staring wide-eyed.
Shanks simply says, "All better", still smiling, but not quite the same as before.
Buggy starts, "O-Oi..." but then Shanks pushes Buggy off him, the surprise having loosened his grip, and starts running away, laughing.
Buggy blinks and chases after him, even though he's not quite sure why.
They reach the other end of the park, out of breath, the older one still being a few seconds faster than the other. Shanks spots a food truck on the street and remembers their earlier bet. "So, how about that hot chocolate ?"
Buggy scowls, of course the redhead would take advantage of him... but then again, it was Buggy's idea to race to the park so he's forced to comply. He nods in agreement, and they make their way towards the promised beverage.
Once they have their drinks, they sit on the nearest bench, warming their hands to their respective cups, sipping silently. Times like that when they're simply with each other, quietly, are oddly comfortable, and right now neither of them want to speak and ruin the magic.
After a moment, Shanks gently elbows Buggy in the side, silently requesting his attention. The other turns his head, still not saying a word. Shanks is looking down so Buggy follows his gaze and finds Shanks's hand, the one that's left the cup and is currently resting on the bench next to him. He looks back at Shanks, who turned his head the other way but he can see the other is blushing. So Buggy, too, looks on the other side, and doesn't say a word.
And when his fingers intertwine with Shanks's, he's suddenly very happy he lost the race.

Where you are, there I am - Sokkla Saturdays 2022
Day 4: Sokka dresses Azula
You can also read here & here
Warmth. Comfort. Home.
Igloos were unexpectedly warm. Even though the fire from last night as good as died out. Igloos also looked bigger inside. The decoration made the place comfortable.
This place felt like home. Considering it was her first night in this igloo, it sounded odd to feel comfortable enough to call it home. But it was. It was her home.
And she also knew what the true reason for it was.
His bed… their bed was soft and warm. Probably the most comfortable bed she slept on. The reason for this was the same source. He was next to her. Her husband held her naked body protectively pressed against his exposed chest. His arms were wrapped around her caringly.
Their mouths had only enough space for talking. His eyes were full of adoration for his wife.
She smiled at that, and he smiled back.
“Good morning love.” Sokka said and kissed her lips.
“Good morning.” Azula replied almost shyly.
“Slept well?” he asked.
“Yes. You?”
“Never better. What’s been all the other nights and days when this is how incredible sleeping feels like?”
Azula chuckled at that and kissed him.
“I wonder what time it is.” she tried to find the small window.
“It must be well past morning. Are you hungry?”
Azula nodded “And I think you must be too? Or is it you forgot about your stomach?” she asked playfully.
“Nothing matters next to you. Besides, I only crave you as much.” With that he kissed her passionately. After a time, they both laughed into the kiss.
“I love you Azula!”
“I love you Sokka.”
They sat up on the bed, but Sokka didn’t let go of her. Her arms were wrapped around his neck anyway. After the passion and heart race slowed down, they were very much aware that of their nakedness. A new sensation.
Last night had been great. He tried his best to make it as perfect as possible. And it was, without a doubt perfect. Love and will were needed and nothing more.
He carried her through the bedroom door, and they took a relaxing bath together. After that Sokka carried her back and sat her carefully on the bed. It was tempting to repeat what they did last night again. Especially now that Azula’s skin was smoother and softer. But Sokka, other than giving slight caresses and kisses held back. Which wasn’t easy for him at all. She needed breakfast. And he would show her around his tribe. In the evening they could go back to cuddling naked and lovemaking.
“What should I wear for your tribe on my first full day here?” Azula asked.
“You brought some warm parkas form the fire nation right?”
“Yes I did.”
Yet he went for the blue parkas with a smirk.
“How about you wear blue today princess? You made me wear lots of red now it’s my turn to make you wear blue isn’t it.”
He kneeled in front of her and put her underwear first. Carefully and slow. Her smirk vanished replaced by a pleasant feeling of his knuckles on her skin. She was also touched of how careful he was with her all the time.
Sokka took his time to dress her fully, except for the parka. No matter how cool he tried to be, a volcano was exploding inside of him. He gave her neck a kiss and inhaled her scent he loved so much.
It was Azula’s turn to help him getting dressed. He put on his underpants and pants himself. Azula helped him with his shirts.
After combing each other’s hair and also giving them presentable looks, they went for breakfast.
The day went by with Sokka showing his wife around and in the afternoon they went for Sokka’s family for dinner.

Tell me a story about Admiral Craymen meeting a koala.
[Afternoon of the third day after arrival on Earth]
"A hollowed-out igloo?" I said.
"My guys will do the deed," Craymen said, gesturing with his pipe. "You, sir, will stay here with the kangaroo."
It wasn't the kangaroo's fault, I suppose. He was standing, like a small tree, in the entrance to the Igloo of Some Kind, which was the least bizarre building I'd seen since we landed. He didn't seem to notice me, and I didn't notice him.
"Here?" I said.
Craymen pointed his pipe at the other side of the room. "Bed. No food."
The bed had a sheet on it, like some sort of hospital bed, and a light green blanket, like someone had tried to decorate the room a little. But there was still enough twine and cardboard and plastic tubing to keep the room looking like a warren, like the den of a strange animal.
"What is all this stuff?" I said.
"Guys picked out materials from local stores," Craymen said. He glanced around. "Materials are not yours to judge."
"What happened to the Interloper?" I said.
Craymen snorted. "Interloper?"
"The man who brought us here," I said. "Friend of mine."
He didn't answer.
"Hello?" I said. "Did the Koala do something to my friend?"
Craymen glanced at the kangaroo. It was still eating. I thought, 'I hope it does.'
"Koala didn't do anything," he said, like I'd been speaking nonsense. He picked up his chair and went over to a stainless steel table in the corner. He settled into the chair. "Watch your manners, Admiral. The I.C. did nothing. Neither did the Koala."
"What did the Wishbone do?" I said. "The Wishbone is the one who attacked us and had us captured."
"Was it so terrible?" Craymen asked.
I thought of Trish. "No," I said. "She was just frightened."
"Then she should never have done it," he said, like he didn't quite understand the words coming out of his mouth. "She would be punished if we could."
"Punished?"
"But we don't know where she is."
"Can't you go out and find her?" I said. "She's a local woman. A local woman is not a natural enemy of local animals."
"No," he said. "That would not be wise. She was under Interloper's influence."
Craymen frowned like he was trying to understand the problem. "You were gone too long. Too long to be so far away. We thought you were alive, but even our fears have their limits. Our people began to worry. We would go look, we would find you, we would--"
"You'd find us at the Wishbone's?" I said. "You'd fight her? You'd fight the Wishbone?"
He nodded.
"And if she killed you, you'd leave her alone?" I asked.
"We would leave her alone. We are not here to judge her crimes," he said.
"But you tried to judge the Interloper," I said.
Craymen looked offended. I didn't mean to insult him. I was only trying to figure out what was going on. I was trying to get this goddamn admiral to wake up.
"The Interloper got us to this place under false pretenses," he said. "We don't think the Wishbone has done anything bad. She is a local woman and you are local men and we think you should meet and be friends."
I looked back at the Igloo. It was getting colder, and I didn't want to waste the light or the warmth, but I was too distracted to tell Craymen this.
"This kangaroo is a local man too," I said.
"This kangaroo is Lord Okidoki," he said. "He is Lord Okidoki."
"I see," I said. "And I'm the admiral?"
"No," he said. "You're the admiral for now."
"Now I'm going to sleep," I said.
"Fine," he said, and with that he fell sound asleep.
("What do you think this is?" I said.)
"A hollowed-out igloo?" I said.
"What do you think this is?" I said.
"My guys will do the deed," he said. "You, sir, will stay here with the kangaroo."

Happy Saturday! I’ve always loved to write and take pictures and was inspired last night to start this blog! With work, school, sports, birthdays, holidays, hunting (and fishing 🙄) and the never ending to do list it’s difficult to find time to have some one on one time. Our day started with dropping the girls and their presents off at school then we were able to have breakfast together for the first time in who knows how long. We also visited a few downtown shops for last minute shopping and loved that we could stay local and find so many unique gifts and everywhere we went the employees were happy and wonderful. This time of year is so joyful and heartbreaking at the same time, that I was inspired to share only the positive things I see. There is so much negativity, worry and devastation in the world right now and sometimes it feels wrong to enjoy all the blessings we have, but I have to keep enjoying and focusing on my kids and the joys in life or it will pull us all down. We are blessed to be able to help others in the ways we can and pray for a more positive future ❤️ Here was the start of our day!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We spent the rest of the day wrapping gifts and watching Christmas movies. Hoping this will be a new tradition to take time off together before Christmas 🎄
Tumblr media
Now to the main story of the day! I wanted to share the positive experience we had on our Igloo dining date at Silver Birch Supper Club in Tomahawk. We arrived to a beautiful lit up igloo on the deck overlooking the lake with holiday decor, cozy blankets, plenty of heat and a fun light up Bluetooth spreader to listen to any music we wanted! They brought breadsticks and our salads and a husband approved homemade whiskey old fashioned and a surprise drink for me with a caramel apple martini. The food was cooked perfect and ended the evening with a surprise dessert to look like the igloo 🥃🍸🍨 We could feel ourselves relax and the whole experience lifted our weary spirits after a crazy few weeks. If you’re able to book an igloo experience here or any other place that offers I’d recommend it! Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and focus on the positives! Until next time 🦚

Let It Die

Chapter 2: If You Love Me
Summary: Loki makes a plan with Thor to win back Reader’s heart.
Your room had become your personal ice castle. Small frozen ice sculptures were decorating your window sills while a light ring of frost surrounded the window panes. Snow lightly covered your dresser and nightstand while your bed was piled high with thick blankets. Not that you really needed them. As an ice queen once said: the cold never bothered you anyway.
Not that your were like the ice mutant on the X-Men team; you couldn’t turn your whole body into movable ice. But you thrived when the temperature dropped. Which was also a downside. You could never go on missions in desert areas. No moisture in the air meant no powers for you.
When you met Loki, you felt all your dreams came true. You never had to worry about accidentally freezing him in your sleep. And with your mutation, his frost giant skin never harmed you. Not that he showed that form very often.
He had a sweet side to him no one else had seen and could make you feel like the most important person in the world. Loki also had the bad habit of cutting you into pieces, as if dissecting you would help him understand humanity better. All he accomplished was cutting into your self esteem.
You couldn’t understand why you were so upset. It was no secret that he would have outlived you without even trying. There were rumors, whispers that there were ways to make a mortal live as long as an Asgardian - er, frost giant. But since Loki never once brought it up in the two years you had dated, you just assumed there was no truth to them. And you hated the idea of looked so old and worn next to him in 50 years while he looked untouched by time.
There was a gentle knock on the door followed by a familiar voice. “Hey hon. Can we come in? We promise mortals only.”
You smiled and shook your head before opening the door to let Natasha and Wanda in. “Hey guys. Sorry about earlier. I just wasn’t in the mood to look at yet another gift from the dumbass.”
“Don’t worry about it. If anything, it’s been the liveliest we’ve seen you in months!” Wanda sat down on your bed and immediately wrapped a blanket around her. Nat followed suit. Both of their breaths were visible.
“Well, sorry about the temp in here, then.” You chuckled as you sat back down. “I guess I don’t have many guests in here as of late.”
“It’s ok, really. Your comfort is number one right now.” Nat tried to reassure you. “Besides, we were hoping to get you to leave your igloo tonight.”
You laughed again. “Ok, ok. I get it. My powers have been out of control lately. Every time I think I’m back to normal, Loki comes around and fucks it up all over again.”
“Want me to kill him?” Nat asked, deadpanned.
“Thanks, but that won’t help. My problem is I still love the asshole. And I don’t even know why! Yeah, he could be really romantic at times and-“ you paused and gave the girls a side glance, "other reasons as well. I’ll spare you.”
“Thanks,” Nat pretended to gag. “I personally don’t see it, but I also had to battle against him at one time.”
You smirked. “Fair. But man, he could really be a douche at times. I don’t even think he realized he was doing it half the times. I’d do something and instead of being proud, he’d point out what I did wrong. Made me want to punch him in the nuts.”
“So why do you hang on?“ You furrow your eyebrows in confusion. "I mean no offence, but it seems like there a small part of you that still hangs on. Like I get you still love the guy, but what’s there that’s making you hang on instead of trying to move on?”
You sighed and leaned back into your chair. “Ok, so maybe I do know why I still love him. Loki…. has this side that no one but Thor and I have seen and I wish he would let it out around more people. He has an amazingly kind heart. Yeah, I know, I know.” You held up your had as Nat opened her mouth. “I literally just said the man could be a douche at times. The times he criticized me, it was for things that pertained to our job. I didn’t throw the knife right. My stance is too wide. I breathe too loud, the enemy will hear me. But when it came to everyday life…. he could’t praise me enough. He loved to watch me cook and listen to me sing. Snow days…” you sighed, “those were my favorite. But I wanted his approval for work. How could we work together on a mission when all I could think about was how I wasn’t doing something correctly? And then the mortality thing….”
“It all comes down then to if he can reign in how much he criticizes your work would it be worth it to try again when he’ll just outlive you?”
“Pretty much. But I doubt that will happen. That man likes to think he’s the best when it comes to fighting and war. Just because he’s a freakin’ god.”
Wanda looked over at Nat and nodded her head. “Ok, sweetie. Enough moping! We’re getting your out of here and clearing your head. So get dressed, it’s time for a night out!”
You couldn’t help the smile. “Yeah, maybe that is a good idea. If I clear my head maybe I’ll be able to control my powers better even if I never make a decision about Loki.”
“That’s the spirit!” They left you to change your clothes and you opted for dark black pants, black and silver boots, and a icy blue top.
You met the girls in the common area and Nat had opted for a stunning tight, black dress while Wanda wore a dress the same shade of red as her hair. The three of you piled into a car Nat had hired for the night and headed into town. Wanda picked out a very upscale club and the three of you managed to talked you way in past the bouncer and the incredibly long line. The place was packed but the three of you managed to make your way over to the bar to grab a drink before trying to find a table.
“Man, it’s hella packed in here! Maybe we should have invited Stark so we could abuse the VIP section.” You shouted over the music.
“You rang?”
You whirled around to find Tony at your side. “What are you doing here?”
“Night out, of course! I even brought my own lady.” Pepper looped her arm in his. “Actually, Nat told us what she had planned for tonight and we decided to tag along. We’ve been worried about you.”
“I know. I’m sorry.”
Tony leaned over and kissed your forehead. “Don’t worry about it, kid. We’re all here tonight.”
“We?”
Tony just smirked and held out his other arm. You couldn’t help the grin as you took it so he could lead you across the crowded club. People immediately parted out of the way of your entourage as you made your way to the VIP corner. There a mix of your friends were waiting for you: Sam, Steve, Bucky, Thor, Rhodey, Vision, and Maria.
“Young Mr. Parker sends his regards. He was dying to come here, but I wasn’t about to break the rules to sneak him in.”
“Glad to hear you’re trying to be a good influence on the kid, Stark.”
“I have my moments.”
You climbed into the booth next to Thor while Tony and Rhodey pulled over another set of table and chairs. “So you guys subjected yourself to an overly crowded club just because you were worried about me?”
“Of course, Dear ____!” Thor’s voice easily boomed over the music. “We are your friends and we care about you.”
You looked down at your drink as you spoke to Thor. “And what about your brother?”
“Loki sends his regards if you’ll have them. He acknowledges he has been an ass to you lately.”
A corner of your mouth twitched upwards. “It’s what he does best.”
“If I may, I would like to say something on his behalf.” You took a deep breath but nodded your head yes. “My brother is not the best at expressing his feelings. A trait, I am afraid, he learned from Odin. You do not have to give him a second chance, but I would hope you could at least have one last conversation with him before making your finally decision.”
You took a long gulp of your drink before answering. “Alright, I will. For you, Thor. You’ve always been like a brother to me. If this means so much to you, then I will.”
Thor’s face lit up as he smiled at you. “I was hoping you would say yes. Now we can get to your surprise!”
“My what?”
Before Thor could answer, the DJ’s voice rang out through the speakers. “This next one is a request. Dedicated to the Icy Monarch from the Frost Giant!”
You whipped your head to look at Thor. “Loki’s here?! What’s going on?”
Thor held up one hand. “Just listen, Dear _____.”
The song began to swirl around you:
I cut you into pieces Searching for your imperfections I had plans to make you whole But all my threads couldn’t stop the bleeding There’s nothing left, but I’m not leaving When all I know is you
You’re breath caught in your throat as you listened to the lyrics.
I’ve been looking for a way To bring you back to life And if I could find a way, then I would bring you back tonight I’d make you look, I’d make you lie I’d take the coldness from your eyes But you told me, if you love me Let it die
Your eyes stare right through me Ignoring my failed attempts to Breathe back life into your veins But I can’t start your cold heart beating You’re so far gone, but I’m not leaving When all I know is you
It was like your relationship and the last two months following the break up coming to life in front of your eyes. And then he walked into your line of sight and goddamn, he could always make a suit look good. Black suit, black shirt, a tie as green as his eyes, and a small black box in his hands. Your heart raced as he quietly walked up to you and set the box by your drink. Everyone at the table sat as still as statues, not wanting to disturb the scene in front of them.
You reached for the box and began to open it as the end of the song rang out:
And you left me more dead Than you’ll ever know When you left me alone I’ve been looking for a way To bring you back to life And if I could find a way, then I would bring you back tonight I’d make you look, I’d make you lie I’d take the coldness from your eyes But you told me, if you love me Let it die
Inside the box was a single gold apple. It was the oddest thing Loki had ever given you and you weren’t sure as to what it was. Picking it up, it was instantly clear that the apple was far lighter than you expected and softer as well. As if you could actually eat the golden fruit.
You raised your eyes back up to the Trickster God. “My dear, I have behaved horribly towards you. You loved me more than I ever deserved and I couldn’t even give you what you needed. If it is possible, I would like a second chance to prove I can be worthy of your love. And in exchange, I present the Golden Apple of Idun’s orchard.”
“I’m-I’m sorry. A what?”
“A golden apple. It is to be consumed by a mortal wishing to extend their life. Forgive me, I never brought them up before as I feared you would only want the apple. Not me. No one has ever wanted me for what I was.”
You looked up into his eyes. “I did. In any form you would give me.”
He knelt down by your side. “I know that now and I am a fool for not seeing it sooner. I know it is asking for the world, but I would love to give us a second chance. Because you are my world.”
Your lower lip trembled and you placed the apple back before closing the lid on the box. Loki’s face fell. “I cannot accept this apple.”
“Of course. I understand.” He lowered his eyes.
“Loki, please let me finish.” You placed your hand under his chin and lifted his face so he was looking at you again. “I will not accept this apple at this time. We first need to talk about the problems we have and if it’s possible to fix them. Only after we have gotten our footing back will I eat the apple for you.”
“So…”
“Yes, Loki. I will give us a second chance.”
Loki’s joy was clear on his face and beyond words. He stood up, pulling you with him, so he could engulf you in a hug. “I promise to make myself worthy of this chance. You are my love.”
“And you are my Frost Giant.” You gave him a quick kiss.

HI HI HI HOW ARE YOU?
ME:fine
My big three are Pisces sun 11th house (if houses are allowed), capricorn moon 8th house (💀) and Taurus rising!
And yes most of my planets are in detriment 🥲
Thank you luv! Take your time 💞
First off I had to sit up in bed it's so late here (I'm fine I'm watching history stuff rn on the Victorian era)
Second off let's go hm. This is honestly gonna be awkward. My methods are confusing I'm sorry and sometimes I may mix energies😭 Pisces sun, Capricorn moon, and Taurus rising. Have to turn my tv down to connect. (Took my hair down so I'm feeling more energy and I love it)
NO MORE STALLING I NEED TO DO THIS. the Pisces sun and Capricorn moon are reaching out more than Taurus rising. (Possibly form reading those first lol) when I see the pisces I see flames for some reason? Something cold along those lines, the fire feels like I could pass through it dancing and it wouldn't burn me one bit. The Pisces sun is retracting it's touch so going to come back in a bit. Multiple marionettes are in the distance of the Pisces sun home, women and men all alike in fashionable ballet poses. Hung up on the walls with black paper. The walls of a weirdly enough idol? I see fairy lights of cool colors and bright lights. The walls are blue and white, color changing over and over. I don't see the Pisces until typing this, in the middle of the room, on pillows of all arctic tones. (My screen broke so typing this hurts my eyes kinda sorry for typos) the Pisces takes the form of a wise and authentic sheep or lamb. Fish in bottles cover the rooms shelves and book holdings. Many jars of items never seen before by modern eyes or old. (Though they do seem modern in a way I just ramble and write this all at once sorry) from the dancers I believe you may enjoy the finer arts of things related, or stand in your kitchen with songs or silence somehow making your own music. The pictures move on the walls creating fairytales and stories of all kinds. Leaning towards probable loss of childhood or the indulgence in stories close to your heart. The Pisces sun may be placed in the chest, lower stomach, or left hip? It cools your heart sometimes but you do seem very warm. I keep thinking of Hans Christian Andersen and his stories in my mind, possible Disney adaptions. Your Pisces sun offers warm hot chocolate to it's passerbys, the walls turn to the form of an iced igloo (possible misspelling) the place your Pisces sun offers in other people's hearts is undeniable, true to their beliefs and nature, sweaters adorn it's wool. Possible love for warmth and bigger clothing unless parties come around. I feel the Pisces sun could offer difficulty in relationships because of its worrying nature at times, the Pisces is more fiery than common belief but it still holds meek under certain presences. "Hide me" it keeps saying, moving from it's pillows to behind me. It loves it's host too much, it has been with you in more cases than just this lifetime, I feel it new it would reach you someday as most zodiacs do. The sun's eyes are so wide they hold galaxies, love for stars and hearts or heads filled with the knowledge of them. Curiosity has killed this sign so many times it stopped looking on its own. Your host body helps it explore and it thanks you for that.
THIS IS SO LONG ALREADY.
Your Capricorn moon is dear to you. It sometimes pushes the Pisces sun over in order to make room for itself. It takes the form of a bull, headfirst hitting your heart with it's passion and longing. It shakes the core of your other zodiacs, waking them every morning like an alarm. This could possibly cause headaches, pain in your sided, or heartburn? The dark sleek hairs on the bull have gifted you the roots of your hair (not color just strength and devotion to grow). I now see the possibility of baldness at some point? Either by choice or you've thought "f*ck it why not?" But didn't go through. The bull had a golden cow ring, it shines in distance. The light creates a desert image to the people witnessing it. The Capricorn moon entices the mystery and wanting form others that gods had gifted its patrons. Your hair is a natural element of your being. I see messy mornings with a toothbrush in the holder. Standing in front of the mirror a host looks into their eyes looking for the Capricorn. A tiny bit of reminiscence is the eyelashes of your eye and the marks on your skin either moles or beauty wise. I saw an image of a cow looking birthmark and that's adorable but not a probable so ignore. "Love" it tells you this with every hit of its horns on your heart. Love until you're bleeding but not when you're burnt. Carry it's fire and temper and show it to anyone who pains your loved ones or crosses its borders. Don't flush people out, just learn that you will always matter and the Capricorn moon will always be there. It has engraved it's initials in the form of hooves so far deep into your flesh you will never not feel it. I see clear skin which could have been helped with facial products or natural and pure sweat. The bulls hard work always pay off, and the sweat at the end of the day will always be a sign of its natural influence. Highly intelligent and most utterly gorgeous. Okay well while I was writing this it took a turn and started coming after me so we'll leave it there. I keep coming back here god, sickness or flus were common once to your body or mind, the pain has washed over (past current or future?) Placement definitely near the heart or lungs. They seems cracked in the future, avoid smoking.
I feel I haven't given enough information hopefully it'll give more later on.
"hold me" "me, me, me" I keep hearing it form your signs. The Taurus ascendant loves the fire of your Capricorn moon. It admires the reigning image of the zodiac and wishes to connect with it. Often they hide away from you in dreams, enjoying thoughts and snacks, talking of what's to come in the next hosts life. (They still love you don't worry) you leave them wondering how they got here, how their host became the person they are now. They whisper congratulations to you in your sleep, sometimes wandering your housing area, looking for parts of you in every little thing. The Pisces sun seems more isolated from the rest but they force them to deal with their presence. (Pieces secretly loves it) the Taurus rising works exactly well with the bull Capricorn, waking the same and sleeping the same. It love to chat and talk the boots off of your conscience. Arguing it should be able to hold some power and that the consequences will be worthit. They honestly need to take a break, I thought of them in stripper boots and heels pointing at the sun💀 I'm guessing that's the house of your mind in the desolate desert. The Taurus rising offers crops and room for experience and experimenting growth. Crops of corn, greens, and etc. It carries fields and fields of cropping on its back. Dealing with your struggles by coating them in salt and good food. This makes me think there's a possibility people think you take things too lightly. That's not always the case you just worry over and are both tired of it at the same time possibly. You've down your work and you don't owe much to this world unless you offer. Retract your hand if you need please you deserve it. Lay back with shades and swim wear even in the broad neighborhood those people's thoughts shouldn't matter. The Taurus rising has taken your burdens, it worries not for your future as it plans on keeping close eyes on the plants and fields in your chest and body. Vines of fruits of all kinds grow on the legs area, possible things associated with that area in life or mind.
All in all your signs balance you with love, kindness in the form of drinks, handshakes between all time friends, warm goodbyes, lovely future meals, and more. They care for you and no matter what your decision is they appreciate your thoughts. Your method is precise, always carry on and back it up.
For future health I see fevers and malnourishment, not to worry with your friends and loved ones in the future or from the past. Possible miscarriage if heavily dosed on certain things, I see birth control, pain relievers, and stuff to take the edge off involving cars. Careful driving. Honestly, hit your head on the steering wheel when you're stressed it's been a long time coming and it'll heal🤍 you have a good proportioned body. Skin is soft and loved by all who see it. Your smile is so intoxicating it should take place of the sun. "Hold your friends close and your enemies closer" I saw that and I love the vibe it gives off, feels like a mob boss person and I dig it. Keep doing you, I don't see many problems just keep going you're doing great and the afterlife that you believe in or even if not at all is prepared with roses and decorative caskets filled with all your most fashionable items. The Taurus brings out fashion and luxury so it's not a surprise you may like the finer afterlife you've got all set up. Kiss the devil if you see him he adores you (not wishing bad just saw it). I keep seeing people form peaky blinders. Possible other zodiac influence is Gemini, Virgo sun or moon, I see the weird word hysteria, other Capricorns tend to attract so gl I think you may know some placements. Based on the houses with my knowledge your sun in the 11th is a good place to be it gives a communal and work influenced life. People like your ideas and the friendships are worth while, you bring a hope to people that isn't needed sometimes but is always there, feels like an office friend situation. Possible job friendships and popularity. Capricorn moon in 8th tells me you have cardinal secrets, both zodiac and sins. It's not on my knowledge just a feeling, but it isn't wrong you've been redeemed in almost every culture and religion, I see you may not have strong religion in the basic stuff but you do care for culture. You spend your time admiring the loves of other nations, countries, religions, lifestyle, and more design and architecture came up 3d modeling too I feel like the little baby 3d model kit is something you need to try with a family member, lover, or friend, it's gonna be a bit messy but you'll like it some bit. I don't get know what detriment is sorry but I feel I got somewhat through that it made me think of mental health, hardships, and overall security somehow idk. Ask for more if you want I feel I forgot stuff and this has been so long sorry.
COMING BACK TO REALIZE I MISSED ENERGY COLORS! Taurus ascendant is a warm orange, dry sun rays and heated lamps are seen, the colors loved by those in hot weather used to it. The Pisces sun is cool with blues, grey's, whites, and a tiny smudge of yellow in soft swirls. Particles surround it. Capricorn moon is overly intimidating me right now. It glares so much god. It's color is dark blues mixed with purples and sea refuge vibes. Deep sea diving why don't they. The colors could create pallets only seen by me. They are honestly really beautiful.
HONESTLY WHAT AM I DOING ITS 4 AM NOW. okay description wise. I see short it average person. Possibly tall but idk I doubt myself during these but they seem to be right when I do???? Hesitation is a problem with me. I'd say 5'2-5'6 possible 5'7 or even 6'0 your energy says I'm huge don't ignore me so what's happening. Age could be somewhere to late teens through late or mid twenties (using basic knowledge it's not likely you aren't so open as a young teenager but your aura says you're young as ever. Your skin I want to say is dark tanned yet still seen as white but the Indian part makes me doubt. My mother is what looks white you'd never guess so I thought possible brown to black hair maybe even possibly a light brown? (Vague I'm so sorry) I see a beauty mark on your arm, inner thighs somewhere. Your lover now or in the future has a possible tendency to kiss you all over at times? Random. Your clothing style is bold yet meek. You wear things not expected in the season but still fits within the cultures of seasonal beauty. Rock hair would suit you ngl in my mind it's the smallest maybe. You have many boots and few heels possibly, possibly to add height though given since duh that what they're kind for. I see a red car somewhere idk ignore that. Possible relations to the goddess Hera in some way, she gifts you with few of her talents, some being a pathway of unseen gold. Do more crazy poses don't care if it's weird do it. Memories do it for the memories. I see many Taurus themes possible soulmate bond placement if you believe in that (I have theories against the basic soulmate thing but I still like it).

How to Win at Christmas in 7 Easy Steps | KSJ
Tumblr media
~summary:
How to win at Christmas... and maybe meet someone along the way. The story of how Jin ended up crawling through your hedge dressed as santa on Christmas eve. And how you were totally not heading to his house for the very same reason.
Jin x reader
~word count: 2.6k
~neighbour au, idiots to lovers, humour, crack, getting together
Rating: pg
Warnings: general chaos and gardening shears
~a/n: thank you to an anon for this idea for the ‘kim seokjin’ bingo square! (my requests are no longer open) I had a lot of fun with this one!
Tumblr media
Step 1: pick your battles
Jin stared out of the window.
How dare she?
His neighbour across the street was currently on a ladder, fastening the end of a large string of lights to her house.
Previously, he had thought she was quite cute whenever he passed her in the roads.
But he would have to push that aside, given she was to be his nemesis now.
This was war.
The declaration was loud and clear, staring him in the face outside his window. If he wasn’t so intent on despising it, he might have admitted that the lights looked very good. There were fairy lights around the windows of the house, and hanging from the roof like glittery icicles.
Even the wreath on the red front door had little lights glimmering from within the foliage.
The final straw was really the series of colourful stars forming a stripe across the middle of the house. Other than those, he would say his decorations were roughly the same as these new arrivals.
Which was why it was very clearly a direct attack.
Tumblr media
Step 2: make the first move
Looking between the Christmas lights on the shelf in front of him, Jin wondered if he was reading too far into it.
He was sure the stars on the left were the exact ones you had on the front of your house. Would that be too obvious? Settling for the ones on the right, although they were slightly smaller, he walked further into the store, looking for something that would really make his house stand out.
Half an hour later, a large wire Christmas tree could be seen walking across his front lawn, emitting several curses as it went.
Eventually, Jin managed to place it in such a way that it nestled among the plants in his garden without squashing any, and he hurried to switch it on.
Standing back, he admired his work with hands on hips. Perhaps he wasn’t very subtle, looking between your house and his, but he liked what he saw. That would show you. Stars bedecked his front porch in a very pleasing way, and now he had a Christmas tree lighting up his lawn.
What could be better?
Tumblr media
A nagging hum nudged at Jin until his eyes cracked open, cursing as he found his room still dark. Legs still tangled in his sheets, he flipped himself over in order to peek out of his window.
The early morning light made him squint, but the moment his eyes were adjusted, he swore out loud.
As it turns out, the source of the humming sound was an inflation device, pumping air into a massive snowman on your lawn. It did look slightly like a melting marshmallow, but as it grew it grinned maliciously up at him, stick arms wobbling tauntingly.
He just gaped, dumbfounded, wishing he had thought of that.
Looking in panic down at his own decorations, he was alarmed to note that his Christmas tree would only look nice at night. Now that daylight slowly seeped into the sky, it looked more and more dull.
“Oh shut up,” he scowled down at the snowman’s growing grin.
A smart move on your part, he thought bitterly. Show off.
Tumblr media
Step 3: make another move when your first one fails
Jin would settle for nothing less than a real showstopper.
He had gone to another shop this time, a little further out of town, but, most importantly, bigger. And therefore it would contain Christmassy treasures you could only dream of, little miss look-at-me-I-have-a-snowman.
He bypassed garlands, trees and wreaths, ignored the ‘Santa, stop here!’ signs and those weird window stickers he would never understand. Maybe he had been too optimistic about finding his Christmas holy grail in this place.
But then he turned the corner.
He had just entered a treasure trove. He had the surreal sensation that he was being bathed in a golden glow from the splendour before him.
Now this was more like it!
Everything in this section was large enough to fill his car, a life-size moving Santa beckoning at him from one side while a fake reindeer scuffed its hoof on the ground, mechanical whinny uttering from its mouth.
Walking further in, he identified the golden glow as coming from a large nativity scene. Rather disappointing, if you asked him.
But it couldn’t be helped, so he quickly came to terms with this and found himself not long afterwards debating between a full size sleigh and an igloo.
Chewing his lip, he rotated, assessing both of the items, which were on opposing shelves. The igloo would look very wintery alongside the white lights on his house and the tree in the garden… but maybe not quite Christmassy enough. A sleigh, on the other hand, was unmistakeably festive-
-and being stolen right in front of his nose.
He was rather taken aback to find a woman already halfway up the aisle with the box under her arm when he turned around. A strangled yelp escaped him as he realised it was the last in stock, and he had just been robbed.
Hearing him, the woman turned around.
It was you.
“Oh, hi Jin!” you exclaimed, grin taking over your face. Meanwhile, he just sputtered, mouth hanging open in outrage.
“Um, your lights look really good!” you spoke again, quirking an eyebrow at his silence.
The cheek of it!! He could not believe you had the audacity to speak about decorations in front of him like this.
“Thank you,” he spoke curtly, “yes, they do.”
“Okay,” you laughed lightly, “I better be going. See you around.”
Grumbling to himself, he spun back around forcefully, coming face to face with the igloo he would have to settle for.
“Okay, here’s the deal,” he hissed at said igloo, “you are gonna be the most glorious, majestic igloo this side of Seoul, or else! We’ll see who’s laughing in the end.”
In the end, admittedly, it was actually the shop assistants laughing at the man who seemed to have punched above his weight in Christmas props.
Staggering out of the door, he finally dumped his haul into the back of his car and took a breather leaning against the door. His house had better look spectacular after this.
Tumblr media
Step 4: implement step 3
Jin would like to describe himself as modest. Among many other great things.
But even a modest man such as himself had to admit, his decorations looked pretty darn good.
Since fate had so cruelly stripped him of Santa’s sleigh, he had gone all out with the igloo. It stood proud and strong in the middle of his front lawn with presents stacked up at the entrance and a couple of little polar bear cubs just outside.
They even had little hats on.
He was sure the fearsome army he had created would scare you into submission. After all, no more items had appeared over at your place yet.
You probably bought that sleigh just to spite him. Classic sabotage tactic.
Shaking his head, he turned to go inside for a well-deserved cup of hot chocolate.
Tumblr media
Step 5: contemplate defeat
When Jin opened his curtains the next morning, he almost fell over in shock.
At first, he thought it had snowed.
But he was mistaken, unless a snow cloud had in fact visited and snowed very specifically on your house.
When the hell had you found the time to do that? Or the ladder to do that? Your roof, as well as the tops of your windows and porch, were dusted in white. And the more he looked, the more he saw. You had even sprinkled some on your wreath!
Worst of all, that damned sleigh sat smugly in front of it, the cherry on the cake.
Begrudgingly, he was impressed. He should take a leaf out of your book when it came to intimidation tactics. Because they had certainly succeeded on him.
How on earth had you accomplished all that?
He sat down heavily in his kitchen, deliberately leaving the curtains closed for now. He leaned heavily on his elbow as he stirred a mug of tea, thoroughly fed up.
What was this feeling?
He had never met his match before. The smug satisfaction of victory had been rudely swiped from his fingertips by you.
But while he stewed in his disappointment all day, it seemed you had been busy. A knock on the door later heralded your arrival with a steaming plate of mince pies.
Oh, so you had to be better at baking too, huh?
“Oh. Hello,” he greeted as he stood in the doorway. His hand still gripped the door in his surprise.
“Hi,” you smiled, “would you like any of these? Maybe you already have some since you’re the only other one on this street with any Christmas spirit, but I thought I’d stop by and offer-“
“Yes. I would like to try some,” Jin cut you off, jutting out his chin. Then, realising himself, his eyebrows drew together and he uttered a sheepish, “thank you.”
Even your laughter sounded like Christmas, tinkling like bells as you followed behind him.
Once he had brewed tea for both of you, he completely forgot his intention to spit your baking back out in a dramatic display of disgust. His disappointment in himself only grew when he found himself reaching out for his third one, only then remembering that he was supposed to be opposed to your insufferable ability to do Christmas better than him.
It was only when it started to grow dark that the two of you realised the time you had wasted just talking. And only a small part of Jin offered to pop over with Christmas baking of his own purely to prove he could do it better than you.
A weighted breath left him as he shut the door behind him.
This would not do. He had to stay true to his ulterior motive, for goodness’ sake!
Across the road, your lights flicked on and he made another unfortunate discovery. Those weird window stickers might have been a good investment after all.
Silhouetted by the warm light of your house, a row of houses stood along the windowsill, dark blobs of snowflakes floated on the glass above them.
Tomorrow, he would completely coat his house in lights and wipe that smug, arrogant, gorgeous smile off your face.
Tumblr media
Step 6: make a last ditch effort
By the time Christmas was only a few days away, your little competition had become quite obvious.
Your road lay in darkness, a few lone strings of lights flickering on the odd house… and then the vision was assaulted by two houses opposite each other: yours and Jin’s.
However, Jin only looked out with satisfaction. The plants around his lawn were lined with glittering lights, and more still were piled on the igloo that had become his centrepiece. Even the polar bear cubs had been ensnared in the cheery twine.
As he watched from his window, a family walked along, two kids clutching their mum’s hand. The abundance of light helped greatly by illuminating their smiles as they gazed at the lights on display. But to Jin’s dismay, they turned to your house first, pointing at all the things decorating it and jumping up and down in excitement.
Just a passing glance was thrown at his, before they were on their way.
His hands curled into fists. This simply wasn’t good enough – he had to win at Christmas. He always did! Who were you to threaten the reigning Christmas champion, Kim Seokjin?
Tumblr media
There was a chance this was a questionable idea.
Just a small chance.
A little, teeny-weeny, itty-bitty chance.
However, this thought only crossed Jin’s mind as the twigs in the hedge he was currently crawling through nearly ripped his santa hat off his head.
Clutching it tightly to the top of his head, he shuffled a bit further.
It was a strange sight, from your end. As you stepped quietly across your back garden, a movement caught your eye. Freezing where you stood, you had to bite back laughter as Santa himself clambered inelegantly to his feet at the other side of your garden, emerging from below the hedge that divided your house from next door.
Just as he bent down to brush dirt from his red fuzzy trousers, you spotted what he was holding.
You were certain you hadn’t asked for a pair of gardening shears for Christmas.
Then Santa’s head raised, and your suspicions were confirmed. Eyes meeting yours, you could see the thought of I fucked up flit across Jin’s face. Very quickly.
“Um, err- merry Christmas!” he cried in a gruff voice, throwing his arms out.
And then very hurriedly tucking them behind his back as he remembered what he was holding.
“It’s not Christmas yet,” you pointed out.
“Well, um,” he glanced at his watch. It was still Christmas eve for a few hours yet, “I wanted to get to you early! You’re right at the top of the nice list… Hold on! What’s that!”
Following his gaze, you quickly chucked your own pair of shears behind a tree.
“What are you talking about?” you smiled sweetly.
“Were you going to sabotage my Christmas lights?” he cried, cocking his hips to the side and placing a hand on them, still clutching his shears.
An eyebrow raised indignantly. You just laughed.
“Clearly you thought of that first.”
“Yes, that’s right, I did!” he exclaimed, pointing the shears towards you and tilting his head as he berated you, “so don’t you go stealing my idea- why are you laughing?!“
Trying desperately to calm down, you put a hand over your mouth to little effect.
“Why don’t we just go inside?” you giggled.
“I’m sorry?”
“Come inside,” you repeated, “it’s Christmas eve, and I could do with someone as festive as you.”
“Is all this not festive enough for you, Miss Christmas?” he challenged, gesturing towards the glow emanating from the front of your house.
“Miss Christmas? You’re literally dressed as Father Christmas,” you appraised.
“Good point,” he shrugged.
Smirking, you opened the door and waited for him to follow you inside.
“So you… you knew I was trying to one-up you?” he asked as you got two mugs out.
“Mmhmm,” you hummed.
“I’ve never known anyone who can decorate like you,” he sighed, “what’s your secret?”
“Like I would tell you that,” you chuckled.
“So cruel,” he lamented, wiping an imaginary tear from his eye, “what can I ever do to make you tell me?”
“Go out with me,” you laughed.
Nearly choking on air, Jin stared at your back as you continued making drinks as if you had said nothing.
“What?” he gaped.
“I said, go out with me,” you explained, finally turning around, “on a date. I like you.”
Blinking rapidly, he swallowed against the fluttering in his chest.
“Can’t say no to that,” he stuttered, “can’t have you teaming up with anyone else, now, can I?”
“I’m not normally so competitive,” you laughed, the bells tinkling once again.
“So why-“ Jin frowned, but he cut himself off, eyes widening, “wait- was this- have you been… flirting with me?”
“No,” you replied, “I’ve been winning.”
“Yah! I definitely won! What are you talking about?!”

The Christmas Elf (Pt.5/5)
The last part! Geralt arrives in the North Pole. :D Also on AO3!
_______________
Geralt was not happy.
This was mostly due to the fact that Jaskier had forced him into the red scaly doublet and trousers that he’d been wearing the day before. To both their astonishment, the clothes fit Geralt almost perfectly. It was a little tight across the shoulders but that was fine. Geralt would just pull a Jaskier and not do the garment up properly. Jaskier was back in his vibrant green and red ensemble from his home land. He’d tried to convince Geralt to wear a matching outfit, as apparently all the Christmas elves did, but Geralt had refused. They compromised on the duller red doublet from the dragon hunt.
Still Geralt really didn’t enjoy wearing the more flamboyant outfits of his husband. He much preferred it when Jaskier decided to wear his shirts instead. They hung slightly looser on the elf’s form and the tease of dark chest hair peeking out from under the collar never failed to send a rush of warm arousal through Geralt’s body.
“And one last touch!” Jaskier’s laugh chimed like the bells he wore. The elf flicked his wrist and a flurry of snow whipped up in his palm, as it settled a small golden bell appeared on Jaskier’s palm.
“No.” Geralt grunted.
“But dearest! It matches your eyes!” Jaskier pouted.
Geralt glared back at him for less than two seconds before sighing. “Fine.”
Jaskier grinned. “Oh ho ho! I knew you wouldn’t say no, now come here.” Geralt stepped forward, dragging his feet slightly just to make a point. “Oh stop all your grumbling. You look incredibly handsome in my clothes, dearest of hearts.”
Geralt rolled his eyes as Jaskier gently ties the bell around one of his wrists and then brought Geralt’s hand up to his lips. Geralt almost smiled as Jaskier placed a kiss on the palm of his hand.
Almost.
He was still pissed off.
He missed his armour.
“There.” Jaskier beamed up at him and he felt his sour expression soften under his lover’s gaze. Beautiful.”
“Jask.” He groaned as he felt the heat of embarrassment on his cheeks.
Jaskier bopped him on the nose. “Beautiful, lovely and gorgeous.” Jaskier insisted and cupped his cheek, pulling him into a tender kiss. “Are you ready?”
Geralt frowned as he glanced over a Pegasus. “Are you sure he can carry both of us?”
Jaskier scoffed with a wave of his hand. “He’s a magic reindeer, Geralt. Have a little faith.”
Geralt hummed, not convinced. Pegasus was at least fully grown these days. When Jaskier had first arrived on the reindeer back when they’d first met, he’d been barely old enough for Jaskier to ride. Even with Jaskier’s Spirit they would have to break frequently or go slowly as Jaskier walked instead of rode.
These days Pegasus was a fine mount, for a reindeer. He was no Roach and the antlers occasionally got in the way of Jaskier seeing properly but Geralt had grown rather fond of the beast.
“You’re up front?” Geralt asked as they both approached the reindeer.
Jaskier shrugged. “There’s not much steering involved. He knows where he’s going better than I do. Plus I rather like the view from the back.” He winked and pinched Geralt’s arse.
Geralt closed his eyes and sighed. “You’re up front.” He repeated.
“Oi! What? No!” Jaskier pouted. “Geralt!”
Geralt smirked. “I rather like the view from the back.”
Jaskier flushed brighter than his hat, despite the fact they’d been together for over two decades. It was for this exact reason that Geralt didn’t flirt back very often. He enjoyed seeing Jaskier get flustered for a change and he didn’t want the effect to get old.
Jaskier let out a string of noises and fumbled to get up on his reindeer. Geralt chuckled but pulled himself up behind the bard, placing a kiss on the back of his neck as they both settled. Jaskier leaned back against him with a contented sigh.
“Hold on tight, my love.” He sang and then pulled the small snow globe from his pocket. There was a sudden chill in the air as Jaskier pulled the Spirit from the glow and then showered glitter over Pegasus’s antlers. “Come on, Pegasus.” He cooed at the reindeer.
And then they were flying.
Geralt wrapped his arms around Jaskier’s waist and buried his face against the elf’s back. “Fuck. This is worse than portals.” He groaned.
“Pfft.” Jaskier snorted. “You are such a bore sometimes, love.” Geralt jabbed Jaskier between the ribs and then ran his hand gently over the same spot. “Oi!” Jaskier squeaked.
Geralt just grunted, feeling a little too nauseous to answer.
Jaskier sighed and began to sing one of his favourite Christmas carols to fill the silence as the stars began to fly in the sky above them. The temperature dropped dramatically as they flew and Geralt’s medallion was practically yanking off its chain by the time Pegasus’s hooves hit the floor.
Geralt wrapped his arms around his chest as he jumped to the floor. Snow crunched underfoot and there seemed to be a constant gentle flurry of snowflakes falling from the sky.
“Shit. It’s fucking freezing!” He grumbled. “Should have brought my cloak.”
Jaskier tilted his head and glanced around them before dismounting. He scratched Pegasus behind the ears absentmindedly. “It’s not that bad.”
“Yes. It is.” Geralt glowered at him. “Fucking elves.”
Jaskier punched him in the arm and muttered something. “Melitele’s tits, you are grumpy today. This is my home, Geralt!”
Geralt grunted. “Sorry.”
“I know.” Jaskier kissed his cheek and ran a finger through his hair, twirling one of the loose strands. “Now let’s see what I can do about the cold. Bear with me though, making clothes was never my talent.”
Geralt frowned as Jaskier closed his eyes and stuck his tongue between his lips. Jaskier hummed as he wove magic around Geralt. Geralt smiled fondly at the bard. He had a soft spot in his heart for Jaskier’s concentrating face. It was adorable the way his tongue peeked between Jaskier’s soft pink lips, not that Geralt would ever admit to finding it adorable… cute maybe at a push after a few pints of ale. Geralt shivered slightly as glitter rained over his head and he suddenly found a long heavy cloak round his shoulders…in buttercup yellow.
He tied the cloak swiftly and pulled up the hood before turning to fix his husband with an exasperated look. Jaskier smiled sheepishly. “Sorry. I got distracted by your eyes.”
Geralt huffed but pulled the elf into a slow kiss. When they pulled apart Jaskier snuggled up against his chest and wrapped his arms around Geralt’s waist, inside the cloak. “You ok?”
Jaskier nodded. “I just want them to like you.”
Geralt smiled though he knew it didn’t reach his eyes. They wouldn’t like him. Not many people did. Jaskier was one of the few exceptions that actually stuck around. “Hmm.”
“Well.” Jaskier huffed and put one hand on his hip as he pulled away. “It doesn’t matter. I love you. That’s what counts.”
Geralt nodded and kissed Jaskier’s forehead. “Hmm.” He agreed.
“Jask!” A perky voice called and there was a rush of footsteps across the snow.
“Daisy!” Jaskier grinned and ran to hug the other elf. “Daisy, Geralt, my husband, Geralt, meet Daisy!”
Daisy was a handsome elf with mint green eyes that glowed just like Jaskier’s. They had long ginger hair with curls to rival Lambert’s. Like the elves of the Continent they had a lean willowy figure and angular elven bone structure. The points of their ears were decorated in elegant gold spirals.
“Good to meet you.” Geralt nodded at the newcomer with narrow eyes. Jaskier had never mentioned having any friends amongst his own kind before. “You didn’t come to our wedding.”
The elf blushed and stared down at their feet. “Poinsettia wouldn’t let any of us leave.”
Jaskier’s jaw tensed and he looked away. “Elves don’t fall in love, no need to have a wedding.” He muttered.
“I tried to get away but Poinsettia locked up the globe. We can’t travel between realms without it.” For a moment, Daisy looked like they were about to cry but they plastered a happy smile on their face. “But it was our most productive Christmas ever, at the time. We’ve outdone ourselves every year since. We have Jaskier to thank for that. You must be so proud of him!”
The elf bounded over to him and flung their arms around Geralt’s neck. Geralt felt his eyes  go wide and he met Jaskier’s gaze with an alarmed expression. Jaskier tilted his head a smiled, but there was still a sadness in his eyes.
Geralt was going to fucking murder this Poinsettia elf.
“I am proud,” He answered, not breaking eye contact with his husband. “immensely proud.”
Jaskier’s face softened. “Geralt.” He breathed, his eyes twinkling like the sunlight hitting the snow around them.
“He deserved to have his family there.” Geralt sighed and extracted himself from Daisy’s arms.
They pouted in a very Jaskier fashion. “I know. Sweet baby Jesus we all knew, but Poinsettia has lost her way. She’s so focused on making every Christmas better than the last, to keep building up Spirit from Earth, instead of the Continent, that I think she’s forgotten what it means to be happy.”
Jaskier put both hands on his hips. “Jealousy is not a good look on a Christmas elf.” He muttered.
“There’s been rumours!” Daisy hissed with a scandalised giggle. “That the boss asked her to resign! She said no of course but it’s only a matter of time.”
Jaskier snorted. “She does need a holiday.” He mused. Geralt looked between the two elves suddenly feeling very much like the outsider that he was. Jaskier glanced up at him and glided over to link his arm with Geralt’s. “So tell me, darling Daisy. What have I missed this time?”
____________________________
Jaskier flitted about around all the igloos and gingerbread houses greeting his oldest friends. He pretended not to notice the way his fellow elves shrunk away from Geralt, and if he was honest, him. It had always been like this at the North Pole. The other elves thought it was a bit odd, and he was really. He had always been more in tune with his own feelings and wasn’t afraid to act on them.
Most elves were told they were happy and so… they were happy, fake smiles hid tired faces. Elves like Poinsettia were the ones where the cracks were beginning to show. He supposed being in charge for a few centuries wore one down rather quickly. He never wanted to be in charge. There was far too much red tape involved. He much preferred travelling the Continent with his husband, the grumpy bastard who he loved so very much. Jaskier had his own special job in collecting Christmas Spirit and that was how he liked it, thank you very much!
Also he did miss the banter of the workshops, back when he used to make instruments for days on end. There was always a lot of laughter in his team. The musical types were the most lighthearted of the bunch. After he’d been promoted to head composer he’d missed out on a lot of what had previously made the North Pole so special.
He chuckled to himself, that was what had led him to steal Santa’s snow globe in the first place, many moons ago.
The decision that had ultimately made him an outcast from his own kind but set him on the path to meeting the love of his life.
“And this!” He threw a sparkly rainbow as he gestured widely to the ginger bread house in front of them. Geralt rolled his eyes at Jaskier’s dramatics but he was smiling beneath it all. “This, my dear heart, is Santa’s Grotto!”
“The famous Santa.” Geralt hummed thoughtfully. “Is everything made out of food?”
Jaskier laughed and took Geralt’s hand to pull him down the path lined with candy canes. “Stop complaining!”
“Just seems like a waste.” Geralt muttered but he was smiling and he allowed himself to be dragged. “Does this mean you’ll finally ask Santa about Rinde?”
Jaskier scowled up at Geralt. “No.”
“Jask…”
“No!” Jaskier poked Geralt in the chest with his free hand as they stopped abruptly on the path. “I don’t want to know.”
“Why not?”
“Because only Santa has that ability.” Jaskier sighed.
“Which means?” Geralt asked with a tilt of his head.
“There’s rumours.” Jaskier muttered. “A prophecy of sorts. That one day Santa will step down. That someone else will take his place.”
“And that’s you?” Geralt furrowed his brow and squeezed Jaskier’s hand.
Jaskier gave his husband a fond smile and squeezed back. He tossed his fringe from his eyes. He shrugged. “No?”
“Hmm.” Geralt frowned.
“I hope not. I don’t want it.”
“Jaskier, I hope you’re not planning on staying out there forever.”
Jaskier jumped with a jingle of bells and spun round to see Santa watching them with his arms crossed in front of his chest.
“Ahh. Santa.” Jaskier gave a little bow with a wide wave of his arms. “Good to see you!”
“And you must be Geralt.” Santa laughed his jolly laugh and rubbed his belly.
Geralt grunted and nodded. “You’re smaller than I expected.”
Jaskier gasped and hid behind his hands. “Geralt!”
But Santa just laughed. “It’s alright, little one.” Jaskier glared at Geralt, his cheeks were on fire. “Come in, Jaskier. We have much to discuss. I know you have been avoiding me.”
“I have done no such…” Jaskier trailed off at the look Santa gave him.
“You’re worried that you can slow time.” Santa chuckled. “The Great Prophecy.”
Jaskier’s eyes went wide and he watched Santa go back inside the Grotto. Geralt’s arms wrapped around his waist. “I won’t let him take you.” His witcher murmured in his ear and placed a kiss to his temple. “Come on.”
“Hmm.” Jaskier hummed and chewed on his bottom lip. “Stay with me.” He mumbled as he leaned into Geralt’s side.
“Always.” Geralt reassured him.
“Jaskier, stop your dawdling.” Santa called and Geralt gave him a quick push.
He stumbled forwards. “Oi!” He grumbled and dusted off his clothes. Glitter fell from the tips of his fingers as his nerves got the better of him and he lost control of his Spirit.
“You are wondering why you are different?” Santa asked with a broad smile, offering him a plateful of chocolate chip cookies.
Jaskier snatched one and began to nibble it.
The Grotto was as warm as he remembered with the spicy scent of citrus and cinnamon wafting through the air. The cookies were probably made by Mrs Claus, only her baking was as delicious as the cookies he currently had the pleasure of eating. The chocolate chips were melted and gooey and the biscuit was buttery and sweet, with just a tinge of salty goodness. Gods it was a piece of heaven!
”Obviously.” He grumbled. “I thought I was just… odd, but…”
“You were designed differently from the others.” Santa admitted as he pulled off his hat.
Jaskier’s heart was racing in his chest and he gripped tightly onto Geralt’s arm. Around him snow began to crystallise in the air and he felt the tips of his hair go cold as they were covered in frost.
“Easy, Jask.” Geralt murmured. “I’ve got you, love.”
Jaskier looked up at his husband, startled by the pet name. “Dear heart.” He breathed in awe. Geralt’s lips twitched in that adorable half smile that never failed to make Jaskier’s heart turn to goo. Santa cleared his throat and they both turned to face him. Jaskier’s face was lit up brighter than a Christmas tree. “Sorry.” He mumbled.
“You are not my replacement, young elf.” Santa reassured him. “I just knew that one day it would take someone special to keep the belief in magic alive. You, Jaskier, were created from my own magic rather than Spirit that created the others.”
Jaskier gaped. “I’m sorry, what now?”
Geralt hummed. “So, you’re his father?”
Jaskier jabbed his husband in the rips. “Geralt!”
Santa chortled. “You could say that. It would be the closest thing any elf has to a father.”
“Santa!” Jaskier whined. “Oh gods, what is happening?” He moaned and pressed his head against Geralt’s chest.
Geralt laughed and ran his hand through Jaskier’s hair, knocking his hat to the floor.
“Do we have to stay here?” Geralt asked, ever the business man whilst Jaskier was in the middle of a fucking identity crisis.
“Of course not.” Santa laughed. “But I would appreciate a visit at least once a decade.”
“But my snow globe.” Jaskier protested.
“Your work is done, Jaskier.” Santa said softly. “Earth’s Spirit is glowing brighter than ever thanks to the magic you were able to harness from the Continent. Go. Be with your witcher.”
Jaskier stared up at Geralt in wonder. “I can stay with Geralt?”
“You don’t think old Santa Claus would stand in the way of love, do you?” Santa raised an eyebrow at him. “It is a shame. You would have been a brilliant head elf.”
Jaskier groaned. “Oh sweet Melitele no.” Then the idea hit him. “What about Daisy? They would be excellent, poor Poinsettia could use a break.”
“Poinsettia is stepping down to go back to her old job and looking after the Reindeer. She loves those daft bastards more than anything. She’s been apart from them for far too long.” Santa agreed. “I’ll keep Daisy in mind, son.” Jaskier squeak at the word and gripped onto Geralt’s arm tighter. “Now off with you.”
Jaskier looked up at Geralt. “Husband, would you mind terribly if there was a change of plans this winter?” He grinned.
“Do I get to change out of this ridiculously outfit?” Geralt smirked.
Jaskier swatted his arm. “Well you most certainly don’t now! Rude!”
Geralt chuckled. “Kaer Morhen?”
Jaskier nodded and leaned in to brush his nose against Geralt’s. “Kaer Morhen.” He agreed and kissed Geralt with all the love in his heart. “For now and forever.”

Secret Santa does not own this work, full credit to the author above!
Grandma Tracy might portray herself as a hip, cool, down with the kids granny to anyone that would listen but even she had to admit that she was a traditionalist at heart. Not in the way that many might expect, not in the boring way of not moving with the times when needed, she could work the holoprojector almost as well as John when it came to coordinating a rescue, she just subscribed to the ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ school of thought.
She knew that old fashioned things still had a place in the world, they still had a use, even when people thought they were antiquated and fit for nothing but a museum or a rubbish pile. She’d proven that to Virgil when they had been stuck in London with no technology whatsoever and since then Virgil had had more of an appreciation for the older things in life.
Traditions were important in her eyes, although rarely were they the common ones that everyone in the world did. Mostly because Sally Tracy did not follow the pack, she never had. She refused to do what everyone else did, to her traditions began at home. They should invoke memories of a time long ago and remind you of the things that were important. Family traditions, now they were the way to go.
She could vividly remember her mother singing along to the radio as they decorated the Christmas tree. They would drink hot chocolate and have a lovely time as they decorated, dressing up in the tinsel and talking, catching up on the things they might not have had time to talk about before. Always on the 1st of December, always with Christmas songs playing and always as a family. And Sally had made sure that she'd done exactly the same with her boys.
Now it was Christmas Eve, the gifts had been purchased and wrapped, the tree had been decorated and the family had just about escaped with their sanity after a month of non stop christmas songs on the stereo courtesy of Grandma. Jeff had been the only one brave enough to suggest that maybe they listen to something else but he had quickly backed down when she had speared him with a glare that could have stripped the paint off Thunderbird Two’s hull if she had been close enough to it.
It’s tradition, she said, one of the only ones she could count on since moving to Tracy Island. Beautiful as the island was, it was far too tropical to feel in any way christmassy and the only way she could get in the mood (or so she claimed) was by listening to festive music.
She missed feeling the days grow colder as summer lost its grip on the world and the crisp, chilly days of fall took over. Once fall was firmly there and you couldn’t leave the house without a sweater it was only a matter of time before the smell of burning leaves and woodsmoke filled the air and winter came nipping at its heels. The cold of winter, the first flurries of snow, brought with it the sound of carols, bells and the smell of baking gingerbread. She loved being wrapped up in warm clothes and feeling the icy blast of wind that stole her breath and she missed it when temperatures on the island rarely changed at all.
Rescues often made regular meals and time off difficult, they often interrupted family time and special occasions. The Tracys were used to it, but it did make getting into any kind of routine difficult and often meant that such things as birthdays and christmas felt unimportant. But not to Grandma, to her it was of vital importance and no one had better argue with her. Jeff, wise man that he was, had given up and retreated to his office, his almost soundproof door and peace.
Gordon was in London spending the day with Penelope for her birthday before they returned to the island that evening for Christmas. John was in Five as usual, finishing up preparations for a few well deserved days off (although he would probably be regretting his decision by dinner time Christmas Day), Kayo was visiting Kyrano for Christmas Eve and would return in the morning and Brains was wishing he had never walked into the lounge.
“Snow is falling, all around me, children playing, having fun,” Grandma sang, joining in with the video playing out on the holoprojector as she attempted to crochet a scarf figuring it was as traditional a pass time as any to indulge in, maybe it would be ready by next Christmas if she was lucky. “Come on, Brains, you know the words, join in.”
“B-but it’s not accurate for our climate,” he argued, never having been one to enjoy a sing-along like some members of the family. “There is never snow on T-T-Tracy Island.”
“That’s not the point, Brains,” she sighed, trying to untangle the yarn that insisted on knotting on her lap rather than in the carefully ordered way it should.
“It’s not?”
“No!” She tossed the scarf, all four wonky rows of it, onto the table, giving up for now before she was tempted to lob it up Thunderbird Two's tail pipe.
“I d-don’t understand,” Brains admitted, something that was very hard for him to do. He was used to being one of the smartest people in the room, if not the smartest, and now, here he was, not understanding a simple thing like this. Maybe he’d been working too hard?
“It’s not about the song, it’s about the meaning behind it,” Grandma explained patiently for what felt like the millionth time that December. “It’s traditional.”
“A song is traditional?”
“Well, yes, but not just the song, it’s the image it portrays. Christmas in my day meant snow, cold weather clothes, wrapping up warm, skating on a frozen lake, then coming inside to drink hot chocolate around a crackling fire and listening to carols on the radio with my mother as we waited for my father to get home. We knew that once he was home the holidays could really start. He worked hard and had very little time off in a year, only every other sunday, two days for Easter and Christmas Day.”
“Kinda like us then,” Alan muttered from his spot on the couch where he had been relaxing before breakfast, playing a handheld game.
“Yes, and because we have none of the weather here or the time off, not that I would want to be anywhere else, but the only thing that really makes it feel like Christmas is the songs. So we’re going to keep the music and you’re all going to like it.”
A new song came on and Grandma sighed happily as Alan groaned as if in pain.
“I love this song, it was one of my favourites,” she stared dreamily at the screen. “Oh, it’s Christmas time, mistletoe and wine. Children singing Christian rhyme. Isn’t he handsome? I wouldn’t kick him out for eating cookies.”
“Grandma!” Alan gasped, shocked to the core, his tone showing his disgust.
“What? Just because I’m old doesn’t mean I can’t look and do a little window shopping. I’ve got all his albums, including his live concerts, it’s just not Christmas without seeing him on the TV. Here, I’ll show you. Just listen to him some more and I’m sure you’ll learn to love him.”
“Do I have to?”
“Yes, it’s Christmas.”
“That’s your answer to everything,” Alan grumbled but he put down his game and prepared to do his duty as a grandson.
“I’ll start you off easy with Little Town,” Grandma told him, pressing play.
                                                              ***
“This comes to pass, when a child is born. When a child is born… oh, oh, o-” Grandma sang along to the fifth song of her playlist when, to Alan’s intense relief, John’s hologram popped up, replacing the music video that had been playing.
“International Rescue, we have a situation,” he started, then paused looking around the room, frowning when he saw only Grandma, Brains and Alan in attendance.
“A situation? Yes! I’ll get Scott and Virg,” Alan cheered, jumping up.
"That's not the reaction I usually get," John observed, wondering what could have brought about that sort of excitement so early in the morning from the brother who liked his sleep the most.
“Never mind that. What have you got?” Grandma asked, all business now, her Christmas spirit in song form now forgotten.
“Guests trapped in an ice hotel in Sweden.”
“Scott! Virgil! It’s safe to come up, the music’s off and John needs us to go to Sweden,” Alan yelled as he clattered down the stairs to the kitchen where the older two were no doubt hiding.
“A what now?” Grandma asked, ignoring Alan.
“An ice hotel,” John repeated. “The hotel was first built in 1990 in the small village of Jukkasjarvi, Sweden, now they rebuild it every year and add to it with a different architect for each room. I’m sure it looks very beautiful when you can actually see it and a freak snow storm hasn't covered the entrance then frozen.”  He pulled up a feed to show what must have been the hotel but all that was visible was two large piles of snow.
“What are we looking at, John?” Scott demanded to know, jogging up the stairs with Virgil hot on his heels, Alan bringing up the rear.
John brought up a picture of the ice hotel in its normal glory.
“This is the Winter Heart Hotel in Sweden,” he began. The picture showed a beautiful backdrop of a frosty night with the northern lights visible dancing in the sky behind two pure white domes of snow which were obviously the hotel. They looked like elaborate igloos, connected by covered tunnels and slopes that had formed on the sides with big, wooden looking doors on the front of the domes. The snow sparkled in the moonlight and even though it was clearly freezing cold the whole place looked very welcoming. Little cabins were scattered here and there around the hotel itself, giving the whole scene a picture postcard feel.
“Looks great,” Virgil commented.
“That was it three months ago,” John answered before flicking aside the picture to replace it with the previous image. “This is it as of four hours ago.”
“Woah,” Scott breathed, his eyes tracking over the large mounds of snow that covered the domes so effectively they looked to be nothing but snowy hills. “What happened?”
“Freak snow storm blew in from the arctic circle and dumped around seven feet of snow on the hotel overnight. By the time morning came the fresh snow had frozen solid, trapping a number of high profile guests inside.”
“High profile?”
“The Winter Wonder charity concert happens there every year, people from all over the world pay big money to stay there and not just for the music,” John answered. "It's reported to be an amazing experience but not for the faint hearted. They keep the inside at a constant -5 degrees centigrade, although they do have warm rooms of the hotel such as bathrooms and some bedrooms. They should be fine in there for now, but we obviously need to get them out. The hotel itself has been trying to dig their way through for the past hour. They had a snow plow of their own but it broke a week or so ago and as no snow was forecast they hadn't rushed to replace it.”
“Any casualties?” Virgil asked, already walking across the lounge to his launch chute.
“None reported, apparently they have placated the guests with numerous free drinks and dinner, but unfortunately they are now reported to be getting a little rowdy.”
“Rowdy? Well it won’t do to keep them waiting much longer, will it?  I guess we had better hit the skies,” Scott grinned, crossing over to stand in front of the wall where his launch chute was hidden, reaching up to grasp the light fittings that triggered the revolving door. “See you out there!”
“Alan, you're with me,” Virgil called, much to Alan’s delight. He dropped down in one of the bucket seats that would take him or a passenger to Thunderbird Three so he could suit up, grinning like a mad man, happy to be off the island for a few hours.
“I’ll send the coordinates and brief you when you’re airborne,” John told them as they all vanished, his hologram blinking out a moment later.
“Well,” Grandma sighed, turning back to the holoprojector. “Now that they have gone I guess it’s just you and me, Brains.” With a quick flick of her wrist she had turned the music video on, the sound drowning out Brains’ pitiful groan.
                                                    ***
“Bulldozer Pod is go!”
“Alan, be careful with it!” John warned, his voice echoing around the pod cabin, as the bulldozer shot forward at a much faster speed than was sensible. His hologram popped back into existence to give their littlest brother one of his patented death stares when Alan dared to roll his eyes at him.
“I think I know what I’m doing, it’s just a little snow.”
“No, it’s not just a little snow, if you go too deep or too far you’ll risk taking out one of the walls of the hotel itself. It’ll register as snow, exactly as the rest of it does. Here,” John paused to send through the holographic map overlay he had just finished creating. The overlay settled on top of the map already in front of Alan from the pods scans, then sank down over the snowy mounds, now showing the outline of the buildings.
“Avoid the ice walls, I got it,” Alan assured him.
“Just make sure you pay full attention,” John ordered.
“I’ll be fine, go bug Scott, he’s the one you can’t trust.”
“Unfortunately there isn't just one, I can’t trust any of you,” John sighed and, against his better judgement, left Alan to his own devices.
Alan trundled forward a little slower than before, heeding the warning. He might be excitable but he wasn’t stupid and now that he had a better idea of what he was looking at and supposed to do he could see that he would have to be a little more careful.
As John had said, scans from their equipment were registering nothing but ice and snow, there was no clear definition between what was fresh snow and what had been there before and was part of the building. He could detect life signs deep inside the snow piles, as expected, but they seemed calm enough, their heart rates slow and easy, showing them to be totally relaxed.
He moved the pod closer to the huge wall of snow and maneuvered it into place, his plan being to work in a square, side to side, front to back, moving in closer and closer until the majority of the snow had been removed, allowing Virgil and Scott access to come in with a modified Sherpa Pod. The idea being to use the heat bank element to create what amounted to a high powered hair dryer to defrost the ice that had the guests trapped.
With his first run he plowed a wide path in front of the hotel a good twelve meters away. He checked the map overlay, calculating that he could manage two more full sweeps, working back and forth before he’d be risking getting too close and would have to hand over to his brothers.
Scott and Virgil were configuring the modifications to the Sherpa Pod when John called in to give them an update.
“Alan has removed the snow down to quarter of a meter from the doors, now it’s down to you guys.”
“FAB Thunderbird Five,” Scott answered, swinging up into the passenger seat of the pod. He’d finally grown out of his desire to drive every single vehicle he got into and had learnt that Virgil was, in general, a much more capable pod pilot than he was, although he’d never admit that out loud.
Virgil gave him that look that said he knew exactly what he was doing but, being the more peace loving Tracy, he declined to comment. Instead he climbed effortlessly into the driver's seat and settled in. He carefully guided the vehicle down the module ramp and out onto the snow, ignoring Scott’s impatient huff in response to his sedate pace.
“Slow and steady,” he quoted, knowing that snow was tricky terrain to navigate at the best of times and this wasn’t the time or the place in which to push their luck.
“The danger here is with the hotel itself,” John told them as Virgil made his way across the snow.
“How so?” Scott asked. “I thought the reports said that the hotel was stable.”
“It’s made of the very thing we’re going to be melting,” Virgil answered, checking his instrument readouts as he navigated up and over the snow into the ditch that Alan had excavated.
“Oh, yeah, good point,” Scott conceded. “So what’s the plan?”
“The snow fall isn’t the real problem here, the hotel can take the weight of it easily having been subjected to weight tests to ensure it could retain its structural integrity for these exact reasons,"John answered. "In this case all we need to do is concentrate on freeing the doors, the rest, as long as they take precautions, should be fine to leave in situ.”
“Got it, just the doors,” Scott confirmed.
“You’re going to have to go steady,” John warned. “There’s not a lot of clearance there, Alan has done his best but it’s going to be a delicate operation.”
“Steady is my middle name,” Virgil assured him. “I’ve got it under control. You just concentrate on keeping the hotel employees in the loop.”
“FAB,” John answered, blinking out as quickly as he had come.
Heat bank raised, Virgil worked the controls expertly, taking his time to melt away the snow that was left, being careful to keep it moving and only work on the front of the hotel where the doors should be, following the same map overlay that John had provided for Alan.
Alan, they saw, had done a thorough job, moving the snow far out of the way and was now using the loader and the pod’s caterpillar tracks to tramp down and spread out the snow he’d plowed, eliminating the possibility of the new snow piles posing a danger to anyone.
After only a few minutes of careful work the doors to the main entrance of the hotel began to appear through the snow as it melted away, sliding down the wood. Virgil checked the map one more time, realising that there was little more he could do without risking the ice of the hotel itself.
“I’m gonna have to get my exo-suit and do the rest by hand,” he decided, sounding like he was talking to himself, almost like he had forgotten that Scott was even there. Scott declined to comment, busy watching Alan work, pleased to see that, although the youngest Tracy sometimes had the same kind of offbeat humour as Gordon, he was as competent and sure as ever in his work.
Virgil turned the pod back to the module, not wanting to walk the entire way and, leaving Scott to reconfigure the pod to something a little more manageable for travelling across snow, he got himself into the mechanical suit.
Twenty minutes later a stream of grateful employees and guests came pouring out of the freed doors, all talking at once, jabbering away in excitement at seeing the mighty Thunderbird vehicles up close.
“Please, please come inside,” one waiter gushed, grabbing Scott by the arm and hauling him into the hotel. Virgil glanced at Alan who shrugged, it wasn’t like they couldn't be spared for a little longer. "My name is Felix, please, anything I can do, just tell me."
"It's OK, Felix," Scott started. "We don't need you to do anything…" he trailed off as they stepped inside, their attention instantly taken by their first look at the hotel.
“Woah,” they all breathed in unison, their eyes feasting on the beauty in front of them. They were surrounded on all sides by sparkling, crystal like slabs of ice that formed a lobby area that immediately opened up into an ice bar, a warmly wrapped up waiter behind the bar ready to take their orders. Several guests sat on fur covered ice chairs, sipping from thick glasses that looked to be crystal but were obviously made of ice too.
“This is just...wow,” Virgil’s eyes darted here and there, trying to take in everything at once. He slipped his arms out of the exo-suit and allowed the mechanical limbs to fold down alongside the suit against his back. Reaching out a hand he stroked the delicately carved face of an ice maiden, one of the many sculptures that were dotted here and there. “Can I have a look around?”
“Of course,” the waiter, Felix, who had invited them in nodded eagerly, clearly happy to be of service. “Come, I give you a tour.”
Virgil knew that he must have looked a sight, stomping down the icy walkway with his suit on so, with Scott’s help, he shed it and left his brothers to guard it while he followed the man who had already darted ahead.
Now that he was free of the cumbersome machinery he was able to navigate the icy corridors and smaller walkways with ease. He descended a staircase, again completely made of ice, something he found hard to get his head around as it all looked like crystal, and stepped into a high ceilinged room that sported the most magnificent chandelier he had ever seen.
The ice shards hung down in elegant lines that culminated in three perfectly formed circles. The artist in him was in awe of the work that had gone into creating something that was not only visually stunning but practical at the same time.
Walking through the rooms he saw more exquisite sculptures, fur draped beds in bedrooms that each had a different theme such as under the sea with giant ice jellyfish hanging from the ceiling, clowns, dancers, and solar systems. On the way to the beautiful chapel with its ice shard altar and fur covered pews, he saw a magnificent unicorn that dominated a large part of a hallway. Here and there he saw leaves, animals, birds, faces and flowers, all carved from the ice and snow that made up the hotel. It was, simply put, stunning.
He returned to find Scott and Alan, who had taken up residence in one of the warm rooms with cups of hot chocolate, surrounded by guests. Many of them seemed a little worse for wear after their extended stays in the bar areas where the drinks had been flowing freely in an effort to keep them unaware as to the predicament they had been in.
It seemed that the guests were also fans, their voices carrying that slightly raised, mildly slurred tone that drunk people got, as they peppered the boys with questions.
“We really can’t reveal any of our secrets,” Scott told them, sounding as if he were repeating himself for maybe the twentieth time.
“You eat?” someone popped up behind them and offered a delicious looking burger on a plate.
“Oh, don’t mind if I do,” Scott grinned, reaching to take it. “Thank you.”
Alan and Virgil happily accepted their own plates, diving in to take large bites, eager for some food that hadn’t been cremated by Grandma. Decent food was hit or miss on the island, but everything dished up was met with a general sense of trepidation until the first bite determined its edibility.
“Damn, this is good,” Alan mumbled, his mouth full.
“I’ll say it is,” Virgil agreed, his cheeks resembling hamster pouches as he answered with his mouth full.
"I am glad you like,” Felix smiled, looking rather proud of himself. “They are our speciality, made from our own reindeer.”
Alan choked, his eyes growing wide as he stopped chewing and stared at the burger. Reaching for a napkin he, as politely as possible, spat out the food in his mouth.
Virgil looked a little horrified while Scott just shrugged and kept right on eating. Scott counted himself as a foodie, he would try anything once, or even twice if he was undecided the first time. He had eaten in top restaurants around the world, in little cafes, from carts on the side of the road, anywhere and everywhere that there was food, there was Scott, willing and ready to try it.
“What?” he asked when Alan stared at him in disgust. “It’s a burger, plus it’s good.”
Virgil was obviously fighting some internal war between his stomach and his brain. On the one hand he was hungry and Scott was right, the burger was damn good, but on the other his brain was insisting on conjuring up visions of Santa and his sleigh. In the end his stomach won and he took another bite.
“Virgil!” Alan gasped, making Virgil wince guiltily.
“There’s nothing wrong with the burger, Al. They were good enough to feed us, it would be rude not to.”
Alan, clearly torn between his desire to not be seen as impolite and his desire to not eat Rudolph, was spared from making a decision by a sudden burst of music coming from deeper in the hotel. All three Tracy brothers groaned in unison.
“Is there a problem?” Felix asked, concern etched on his face. Had he given them a bad burger? Food poisoning? Insulted their ancestors? “Anything I can do to thank you, please do say.”
“No,” Virgil assured him. “We just recognised the music, that’s all.”
“Ah,” Felix smiled, clearly relieved. “That is the band beginning a last minute rehearsal and sound check before the concert.”
“Concert?”
Felix pointed to a holographic poster on the wall.
Alan’s eyes widened in recognition and he leant over to whisper to Scott. Scott listened, his eyes widening too as he realised what his little brother meant.
Clearing his throat he made his request. “Maybe there is something you can do for us, if you wouldn’t mind.”
“Of course! Anything!” Felix gushed, pleased that the high profile Tracy brothers weren’t mad at him.
“Can you get us their autographs?”
Felix grinned, looking even more proud of himself than he had before.
“I can do better than that.”
                                 ***
Grandma hadn’t known what to think when Virgil had called home and told her that Scott was on his way back to collect her, telling her only to wear as many warm clothes as she could, but she had done as she was told.
Digging deep into the back of her wardrobe where she kept the clothes that had languished there for more years than she cared to remember, she had dragged out a thick winter coat and a warm top to wear under her customary onesie, along with wooly socks, gloves, scarf and hat.
She was waiting impatiently in the launch bay before Scott had even made it home and was soon comfortably installed in a passenger seat as her eldest grandson whisked her away into the unknown.
Virgil and Alan were there to greet them as they landed, a pair of ice skates in hand and identically proud grins on their faces.
They had spent a pleasant hour or so sliding around on the custom built ice rink. The ice, as with the hotel, had been imported from the nearby Torne River. Grandma was pleased to find that, although slightly rusty at first, she was able to take to the ice with a reasonable degree of competency, much better than that of her grandsons.
Scott was all long limbs and over enthusiasm, trying to go fast straight off the bat and failing spectacularly until he slowed down and figured out how to walk before he ran. Virgil was a little better, adopting the tactic of trying to place his feet carefully, as he would while walking, getting his footing before doing a slow first lap around the outer edge of the rink, gaining confidence the longer he was on there.
Alan it seemed, much to their surprise, had inherited her grace on the ice and took to it easily, executing an almost perfect first lap before streaking off across the ice like a bullet.
Skating gave way to an impromptu snowball fight started by Scott aiming at Alan and finished by Grandma who pelted the troublemakers with snow while Virgil held them in place.
“How about we head inside and grab a warm drink before heading home?” Virgil suggested, shaking the snow off his shoulders, thankful that their uniforms protected them from such a wide range of weather conditions.
“That would be wonderful,” Grandma sighed happily as they walked towards the hotel.
“I want to thank you boys for such a lovely surprise. Much as I love our home it’s been nice to feel snow again and experience an old fashioned Christmas eve again after so long of endless summer.”
“You deserve it,” Scott assured her, draping an arm around her shoulders.
“Yeah, it was our pleasure,” Alan agreed, holding the still freely swinging door open for her.
Grandma experienced much the same wonder as they had as she enjoyed a tour of the hotel at the hands of the ever accommodating Felix, who had been more than happy to be her guide, showing her all the hotel had to offer.
It was beautiful, a true once in a lifetime winter wonderland of crystalline ice and exquisite sculpture that reminded her of the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, her favourite book as a child, when the White Witch had frozen all of Narnia in an endless winter.
Felix was happy to let her wander at her own pace, never trying to hurry her as she explored, her eyes taking in all there was to see. But, eventually, she grew tired and needed to rest, not being as young as her mind would have her believe. She was more than happy to be delivered back to her waiting grandsons with the promise of a hot chocolate in one of the warm rooms.
The function room was beautiful in its simplicity, decorated in a cozy cabin style with insulated fireplaces here and there which gave off no heat but looked perfect in the wood panelled room. There were comfy couches and wooden tables with rings of chairs dotted here and there, all arranged in a semi circle that faced towards the raised platform that was acting as a stage if the instruments there were any indication.
The room was still empty apart from five men sitting around a table, enjoying a quiet drink before the show started. They looked up expectantly when the door opened and the three Tracy boys led their special guest into the room.
Grandma had never been one to be lost for words before but there was a first time for everything and this appeared to be that time. She froze in the doorway, requiring a gentle nudge from Virgil to get her moving again. Her eyes were firmly fixed on one man as he put down his drink and moved towards them, a bright smile of welcome on his face.
“Hi there,” he started, holding out his hand, “I’m Cli-”
“Cliff Richard Jr!” Grandma shrieked, coming out of her starstruck daze to grab his hand between both of hers, yanking it closer, reeling him in for a smothering hug.
“Woah, easy there, Grandma!” Scott laughed as the singer’s arms flailed in shock. “Let the man breathe.”
Alan gently untangled Grandma’s arms from around Cliff, allowing him to back up and regain his freedom.
“So,” Cliff wheezed, straightening his tie and clearing his throat, regaining his composure before he bestowed upon her another dazzling smile. “Am I right in assuming you’ll be staying for the show?”
“You bet your ass I am.”
“Grandma!” all three boys yelped in shock but, thankfully, Cliff just laughed.
The music might not be to their tastes, in fact for Alan it was akin to torture, but seeing the look of joy on their Grandmother's face made it all worth it.
And wasn't that the true spirit of the season? Taking the time to think about others before you thought of yourself, spreading joy and happiness whenever you could.
Grandma was the heart of International Rescue, the heart of the house and the loving center of their family. She had always gone out of her way to look after them, now it was their turn to give something back to her. Something that she would never, ever forget.

A Waddle Down Memory Lane: My Earliest Memories with Club Penguin
This is something a bit different, as we at Penguin News Network are primarily an insider blog for Rewritten’s latest updates. However, with Club Penguin itself turning 15 years old in a few days, I wanted to look back at my earliest memories with the online game. When did it all start? How’d I discover Club Penguin? Why do I hold Club Penguin so closely? Those are all questions I plan on answering as I share my nostalgic moments. - Boopenguin.
My earliest memories of Club Penguin take me way back to elementary school. It was 2008, and over a year since Disney had purchased Club Penguin. I can’t remember the exact date, but I remember it was the beginning of a new school year, and I would come home every afternoon and immediately turn on Disney Channel as I did homework or played on my Nintendo DS. There used to be a brief commercial segment on Disney Channel called ‘Get Connected’. Basically, ‘Get Connected’ took you on insider looks of upcoming and trending Disney video games. One of the commercials that would constantly air was that for Club Penguin. Me never hearing about it before, it really enticed me to join.
youtube
However I was still a child, and I had to get my mother’s permission to join. I do remember it taking a few weeks before I actually joined though. Above is the commercial I think I remember seeing, but it could’ve been a different one. Sorry for the terrible quality, it was the only one I could find. Looking back, neither of us knew that I’d get hooked on Club Penguin and spend hours on it every day. Fun fact, Boopenguin10 was my actual username and I carried it over to Rewritten for the nostalgia. It wasn’t my choice back then, but I grew with it.
Tumblr media
The first party I ever attended was Club Penguin’s 3rd Anniversary, ironically enough. I don’t remember if I joined right as it happened or not, but I do remember obtaining the 3rd Anniversary Party Hat and Ice Cream Apron. This party was a big deal too, there was a gigantic Times Square event in New York commemorating the anniversary party.  Immediately after the 3rd Anniversary Party though, there was the Halloween Party 2008.
Tumblr media
Halloween Party 2008 was super nostalgic to me for many reasons. Not only was the annual candy hunt super fun to participate in, but it also introduced the Secret Laboratory, where you needed the Rad Scientist outfit to enter. During the party, I dressed up as the Rad Scientist too. Another awesome feature was a massive storm that hit the island. Halloween Party 2008 had the perfect atmosphere from its decorated rooms, soundtrack, and the storm effects.
Tumblr media
This all brings me to one final memory, Dig Out The Dojo. The storm that hit Club Penguin during the Halloween Party struck The Dojo and caused an avalanche of snow to cover its entirety. In November’s Penguin Style catalog, you could’ve bought a Snow Shovel to help dig out the Dojo, hence the name. Back then, everyone speculated who ‘??????’ was (Sensei), and as more and more snow cleared out, repairs were being made. And then, a few weeks later, we were treated with the best reveal ever: a new multiplayer game called Card Jitsu.
Tumblr media
I played for a total of 4 to 5 years. I wanna say around 2013 or 2012 was when I quit, because membership became a bit too expensive to maintain, and more required to play. The last party I participated in was probably the Marvel Takeover, I found that rather weird to be quite honest. As for Club Penguin as a whole, I collected the books, the plushes, the toys, video games, you name it. I had that igloo and air hockey playsets and those were awesome.
Tumblr media
Club Penguin holds a special place in my heart, as it heavily influenced my life on the internet. It was my first multiplayer experience before I got older and found Steam, it practically babysat me and kept me occupied for hours on end. Club Penguin in my eyes is a place to just have fun and chill out. I was able to see it grow and evolve, and it bring forth new members every year. I am happy that Club Penguin remains alive through community-led revivals such as Club Penguin Rewritten, and that I can run this blog for you all. Happy 15 years, Club Penguin! - Boopenguin.

The Dancing Warrior: Water, Chapter 11
(Sokka x OC Reader)
A/N: I’m so sorry but this is a REALLY long chapter, possibly the longest I’ve written so far...but oh well. If anyone knows how to edit a post so it has the “keep reading” link PLS let me know I’m begging 😭
Tumblr media
It had taken them quite a while to finally arrive at the North Pole. There were chunks of ice floating in the water and the air was bitter to Navani. She had been shivering profusely for that past couple of days. She had never been to either of the poles before so she had no reason for owning a thick coat like Katara and Sokka. Katara had given Navani her spare tunic, which was a bit small, but a lot warmer than her own. The only thing she had were her robes, a clear indication that she was Fire Nation. Something they had all agreed to keep secret. Navani vowed to solely bend water for as long at they were there. And she knew she had to keep that promise or else they would all be in jeopardy.
Navani sat at the edge of Appa’s saddle, shivering as she tucked herself as far as she could into her tunic. Her knees were snug to her chest with her arms wrapped tightly around them. How could someone live in the cold like this?
She had been so consumed in her own thoughts that she hadn’t been paying any attention to the conversation going on between everyone else. But then she was brought back when Appa’s smooth sailing suddenly jerked and everyone screamed. He tried to keep his balance but some ice threw him off, causing him to tilt. Everyone one held on with strong grips....well almost everyone. As Appa crash landed in the freezing waters, Navani was thrown over with a scream.
They all gasped as the girl fell into the water, “Navani!”
Her body felt numb as she broke the surface, gasping for air. Her teeth chattered as dozens of boats emerged from behind small glaciers. She moved a fast as she could, which honestly wasn’t all that fast, and hurled her stiff body back onto Appa. They all had rushed to her side, but at the moment were too occupied with Northerners approaching.
===
Everything there was beautiful. There was so much to marvel at. From the beautiful architecture to the people and culture. Navani wished she could’ve enjoyed it more but at the moment she was soaking wet in the freezing cold. Her and Katara had done their best to bend the water out of her cloths and one of the men from the boats had lended her some blankets. Which she was currently tightly wrapped in.
As they rounded a corner, there were people along the sides of the canals and buildings waving down at them. Navani couldn’t help but smile and wave back despite her condition. At least she could enjoy that. Or so she thought.
The warm feeling grew a little as a small canoe drifted passed them, catching both Navani and Sokka’s attention. There on the canoe sat a boy and a girl, side by side, no older then them. Navani watched intently, curious. They were dressed like they were important with their hair decorated with different pieces and jewelry. The girl’s was a stark white while the boy’s was pitch black. They contrasted perfectly. Not to mention they were both extremely good looking.
That definitely didn’t go unnoticed by Sokka. Who sighed and leaned against Navani as a deep blush rose to his cheeks, his eyes glued to the girl as the canoe drifted by.
“Could you make it anymore obvious?” Navani scoffed, removing her support from under him. Laughing as he fell to the ground with a thud.
===
“Tonight, we celebrate the arrival of our brother and sisters from the Southern tribe. And they have brought with them someone very special. Someone who many of us believe disappeared from the world until now, the Avatar!” Chief Arnook declared, from his seat at the middle of the table, “We also celebrate my daughter and son’s 16th birthday. Princess Yue and Prince Hai are now of marrying age!”
Navani nearly spit out her drink, turning to look but catching a view of the back of Sokka’s head instead. She scoffed, leaning back to see.
“Thank you, father.” Both twins bowed, Yue continued, “May the great ocean and moon spirits watch over us during these troubled times.”
The Prince turned and glanced her way, a blush so hot on her cheeks she thought her face would melt off.
“Now, Master Pakku and his students will perform.”
That was all Navani needed to hear to have her undivided attention. With an excited gasp, her head whipped around to look at the raised platform.
She watched with wide eyes as the three man manipulated the giant barrels of water to create giant streams moving in almost every direction. They moved in a manner she had never seen before, very different to her usual style. She was mesmerized. So much so that she hadn’t noticed someone standing next to her.
“Is this seat taken?” Hai asked politely, gesturing to the spot next to her.
With her attention still glued to the performance, she responded, “No, you can sit if you’d like.”
He chuckled, taking a seat, “I can tell you’re enjoying the performance.”
“Huh, oh.” Navani blushed hard, finally drawing her attention away, “Yeah, they’re really good.”
“Well, I’m glad you’re enjoying it.” Hai gave her a warm smile that made butterflies erupt in her gut.
“I, uh- I’m Navani...” She introduced, bowing her head.
“No need, Navani. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” His smile never leaving his face. She giggled, breaking their gaze to save herself from anymore embarrassment. As she did she caught sight of Sokka and the Princess next to her.
“I’m thinking, maybe, we could do any activity together?” Sokka asked, attempting to woo the Princess. Navani couldn’t help it but feel angered by this. She knew exactly what he was doing....
Navani turned back to Hai, “So you’re a Prince?” She tried, hoping it wasn’t such a sucker of an attempt to make conversation.
“Yeah...” He chuckled, “I’m a Prince.”
“And...you have a sister?...Who’s your twin?” She wanted to face palm so badly but she resisted, “You two don’t really look alike.”
“Yue was born first and there was something wrong. So my father called upon the moon spirit for help. And it did, that’s why she has white hair. Hence our names as well. They mean moon and ocean.” He answered with not much enthusiasm. Like Navani had pushed a little too much.
“Oh, I’m assuming she gets all the attention?” She glanced over at his twin.
“Mhm,” He hummed with an eye roll, “She’s older, only by a few minutes so whoever she marries automatically becomes chief. Which isn’t fair. It really should be me because I’m the chief’s first son. Plus I’m a water bender!”
Navani perked, an idea popping into her head, “Me too! I’m not that good, though. I could definitely use some practice...” She batted her eyelashes, resting her elbow on the table and leaning on it. And just like that she was in....or so she thought.
“Well, I’m sure healing isn’t that hard.” He said smugly, waving it off.
Navani faltered a bit, pressing, “Healing? What about real water bending? Like actual fighting moves? Or dancing even?”
Hai gave a hearty chuckle, “Well...I guess I could show you a little something but no one can know, alright?”
Her eyebrows knotted in confusion but she brushed it off, nodding and smiling.
“We could meet sometime tomorrow?” He offered, taking hold of her hand and placing a gentle kiss on her knuckles.
She turned away, blush furious on her cheeks. And for a moment she forgot about why she was doing this.
===
She had been out for a walk that morning when she caught sight of a canoe in the canal ahead. Inside was just the person she was looking for.
“Prince Hai!” She called from the walk way, speeding up a little to catch up to him. Both him and Princess Yue were sitting in the small boat as it drifted down the canal.
Just as Navani cleared the corner, she ran right into someone, sending them both into water below. Both the Prince and Princess giggled at the sight.
“Ahhh, Navani!” Sokka yelped, pulling himself out of the water.
She could care less about what Sokka was yelling at her, as she shook her hair out of her face.
Prince Hai had gotten up from his seat and moved to lean over the edge, “Meet me on the palace steps tonight!” He called out as the boat continued to drift, without missing a beat.
Navani swooned as she bobbed in the water, a light blush gracing her cheeks. Soon after she pulled herself out of the water, coming to face Sokka as he watched much to his amusement. He had noticed the way the Prince looked at Navani, like he was head over heels. He knew that feeling, or knows to be exact. Sure he was flirting with Princess Yue but he couldn’t deny that he did feel a pang in his heart every time he thought of Hai and Navani together. He had her first, well, almost had her. Until he screwed it up for himself big time. Maybe Aunt Wu was right...but no. He just needed a distraction for a little bit then he’d deal with that, right?
Navani felt somewhat guilty as she stood in front of Sokka, soaking wet. Like she shouldn’t have made it known that she was going to visit Prince Hai later tonight.
So instead she grounded herself, placing both her hands on her hips, “Yes?” She questioned Sokka’s trained gaze.
He crossed his arms giving her a suspicious glare, “Nothing.”
She exhaled bluntly, giving a huff from her nose, “I’m going back to the igloo. Feel free not to follow me.” She turned sharply, taking off back the way she came.
“I bet you don’t even remember how to get back.” The water tribe boy laughed, watching as she groaned, stomping away. He followed her, doing exactly the opposite of what she said, just to mess with her. He walked a few paces behind her, throwing words of mockery every time she made a wrong turn or went in the wrong direction. Either way, they had ended up in front of the igloo they were staying in.
“Well, would you look at that?” Sokka amused, “We both got what we wanted. You were able to get home and I was able to annoy the heck out of you while doing so.”
“I suggest you shut up before I physically hurt you.” Navani threatened, not even batting an eye his way as she made her way inside.
He laughed, following suit, “You really think you can hurt me? I bet you can’t even pin me to the ground.”
They walked further into the igloo, stopping at the center. Navani shed her big coat, tossing it to the side before wordlessly getting into a fighting stance. Her gaze set sternly on his as he just stood there.
“Come on, tough guy. Since you think you’ve got what it takes, let’s put it to the test.” She stated, dipping low, kicking low and knocking Sokka’s legs out from under him. He landed hard on the floor, letting out a loud groan.
She stepped so she was over him, leaning to look down with her hands on her hips, “What happened? I thought you said you were a warrior?” She taunted, “Get up, I’ll give you another shot. You get the first strike.”
Sokka starred up at her in complete shock. As to why he was shocked, he didn’t know exactly. Of course she could beat him in a fight any day, he was just messing with her after all, right?
Soon after he stood, both of them taking fighting stances. Navani stood with a relaxed, yet steady posture, ready for anything like she had been trained to do. Sokka on the other hand, could fall over with the slightest nudge.
Sokka gave his all with his first strike, deflating a little when Navani dodged it with ease. Almost like it was nothing. He swung a couple more times, watching her move with ease every step of the way, like she had been doing this for dozens of life times.
Sokka tried and tried. He kicked, punched, grabbed, pulled, and shoved. Still nothing. Navani stood strong, barely even breaking a sweat. She giggled at his exhaustion, shoving his shoulder lightly, watching him lose balance and fall only from that little push.
She strutted over to him, placing her foot on his chest, “I didn’t even have to use my bending on you.” She leaned down, towering over him triumphantly. Watching as a smirk curl onto his lips and an idea pop into his head.
“Who’s the warrior now-“ Suddenly her leg was being pulled out from under her, Sokka being able to roll out from under her and pin her down as she made contact with the floor. He sat square on her stomach, using a hand to pin both of her wrists to the floor.
“What the-“ Navani barked from under him. She struggled under his weight, which was almost surprising because he was a little slimmer compared to her trained build.
“Looks who’s on top now! Literally!” He mocked with a big grin on his face.
She hadn’t realized how close they were until then. It all settled in. His weight on her, the way his breath fanned over her face when he talked, his hand holding down her wrists above her head. The butterflies in her stomach matched the intensity of her beating heart. Not to mention she was almost as red as her shirt. Both of their gazes locked on each other, trained so intensely. All those things she had felt for him before over powered the hurt he had caused her. Maybe she had been a bit too harsh, a little too stubborn?...
It had felt like they had been sitting there forever until Katara came bounding into the room.
“Sokka! You’ll never believe it! Gran-Ahh!” She screamed. Both Sokka and Navani yelling along with her as Navani basically launched Sokka across the room. Kicking him off from on top of her.
Katara turned away with her hands over her eyes, “Oh my gosh! Can’t you guys find somewhere a little more private to do that!” She took off.
“Katara!” Navani called, getting up off the floor to run after her, “It’s not what you think at all! I swear!”
They both ran to the door but gave up on chasing after her. They stopped in the doorway, standing close to each other. When they realized it, neither of them jerked away like they normally would’ve. Navani felt....comfortable with their proximity. Something that shocked her, scared her almost.
“I- uhhhh,” Sokka stuttered, trying to ease the tension, “That was fun wasn’t it?”
Navani playfully rolled her eyes, giggling.
===
Later that day Navani was the first to rush out for her...date? Training? She didn’t even know what to call it, with Prince Hai.
For the last hour or two she had spent her time with Prince Hai as he taught her some water bending moves. She was surprised because she already knew a thing or two but his way was so much different from the way she had been taught by her mother. So she was grateful that she was actually able to learn something.
Now they sitting on the palace steps, just enjoying their time together.
“Thank you for teaching me.” She said, leaning back with her palms against the icy step under her, “I really appreciate it.”
He turned to her smiling, “You’re welcome. Thank you for letting me teach you. It’s not everyday a beautiful girl such as yourself gets to spend time with a prince.” He joked.
“I’m sure there are a ton of other girls who would be jealous of me right now.” Navani chuckled, noticing the space between them decrease slowly. Her laughed died off awkwardly as he got closer.
“Yeah, well it doesn’t matter anyways. There would be no gain in a girl marrying me with my current situation.” He sighed, the atmosphere around them shifting.
“Now don’t say that.” Navani comforted, “Any girl would be lucky to marry you.”
He looked into her eyes and Navani saw how bright they seemed to glow under the moonlight, “You really think so?”
Navani smiled, glancing down at his lips and seeing how close they were, “I know so.” She spoke, attempting to keep their distance.
But much to her dismay, he kissed her. She gasped at the sudden contact, her eyes wide with shock and confusion. She felt confused and just odd. It didn’t feel....right to her. It caught her completely off guard. At this, the Prince pulled away quickly with a worried look on his face.
“Oh spirits! I shouldn’t have done that.” He got up hurriedly, leaving Navani on the steps.
She got up after him, “Wait! Prince Hai!”
He stopped at the top of the steps, Navani catching up to him and taking a gentle hold on his wrist.
“I’m sorry,” She began, look up at him, “I’m sorry if it made it seem like we were anything more than friends. And I didn’t mean to hurt you in anyway. But I just think we aren’t destined to have a relationship in those sorts.”
He gave a sad smile, “I understand....you like someone else instead.”
Navani’s eyebrows knotted in confusion, “What?”
“Sokka, is it? I see the way he looks at you and the way you look at him. I was foolish for even thinking that we could’ve had something.”
Navani stood silently for a moment. Maybe he was right. Maybe she did look at Sokka a little too fondly sometimes. And maybe she still got butterflies in her stomach whenever she thought of him in such a way.
Navani took a step closer to him, “No you’re not, you were just doing what your heart was telling you to do.”
Hai smiled again, taking hold of her shoulders, “Go. Go do what you heart is telling you to do and find him.” And so she did. Of course she didn’t leave without giving her thanks and appreciation.
Navani walked back to the igloo in hopes of finding Sokka before he went off to do his activity with the Princess. She tried walking without being too loud. Or else her foot steps would echo off the ice walls. She trotted down a couple walk ways, crosses some bridges until she finally turned up at the igloo. With every step her heart grew with anticipation. She felt as though she could do anything. She rushed through the doorway, a smile as bright as the moon on her face.
“Where is he?” Navani exclaimed, out of breath.
Katara and Aang jumped, startled at her sudden appearance, “Who? Sokka?” Katara questioned.
Navani nodded eagerly, almost squealing with excitement. She was finally coming to terms with her feelings.
“He’s mentioned something about a bridge and seeing the Prin-“ Katara wasn’t able to finish her sentence before Navani rushed back out with a thanks.
At this point she didn’t care if she was loud and her stomping foot steps could be heard. She figured she start with the bridge where she sent Sokka and heralded flying into the water. She slowed as she approached the corner. Hunched over, she caught her breathe. She couldn’t help but over hear the conversation going on.
“Hi, Princess Yue. I made you something.” Navani over heard Sokka greet the Princess. She peaked her head around the corner, leaning as far up against the ice wall as she could. It hurt a little to see them together like so.
She watched as Sokka held out his hand to show Princess Yue what was supposed to be a fish carving. When did he have time to make that? Maybe he really wasn’t doing this just to mess around with her...
”I’m sorry. I’ve made a mistake.” The Princess cried, turning away, “I shouldn’t have asked you to come here.” She ran off as Navani stepped out from around the corner.
When she did something hard hit her in the head, “Ow!” She whined, rubbing the sore spot in her forehead.
Sokka stormed off without noticing Navani. She cursed herself for not making it known that she was there sooner. However she did make an effort to rush back to the igloo to make it seem like she hadn’t been spying on him this whole time. She ran through the doorway, startling Aang and Katara once again.
She tore her coat off in a hurry, along with her boots, plopping down on the ground next to Katara.
Not even a second later Sokka stomps right in, clearly upset. He kicked his sleeping bag and slumped down over it.
“How’s warrior training?” Navani asks carefully, making sure her pace was steady.
Aang looks at Navani with confusion. Navani gave him a desperate look and the boy quickly caught on, “That bad?” He played off.
Sokka groaned, “It’s Princess Yue! One minute she wants to go out with me and then the next she’s telling me to get lost!”
It saddened Navani to see him in such a sour mood over what had just went down. At that point she tuned out of the conversation and focused on relaxing. She laid down on her sleeping bag, arms behind her head and legs crossed. She hadn’t noticed Katara and Aang had left until a little while later. Leaving Navani and Sokka alone.
===
The events that occurred the night before greatly contrasted what was happening right now.
That morning Katara had challenged Master Pakku to a fight, which she still lost despite her skill. And now she was taking a walk with Prince Hai.
“You really like him don’t you?” The Prince questioned with a sly smile.
“What?” Navani blushed, trying to play it off, “I wouldn’t say really like him but-“
“Just admit and stop making it harder for yourself.” He laughed as they approached a bridge.
There stood the Princess and Sokka engaged in a kiss. Navani froze. Her whole body going numb. Her heart began to ache in her chest, under all the layers of cloths she had on. A lump grew in her throat, getting bigger by the second.
Prince Hai had done a service by leading her away from the scene as she wept. She knew she shouldn’t be crying. Because if Sokka had seen her and Hai kiss yesterday, would he have reacted the same?
Hai brought her close in a snug embrace, “Navani, don’t cry. It’ll be alright. She can’t even be with him. She’s engaged!” He explained, taking her face in his hands.
But her expression stayed the same as more tears fell upon her cheeks. Her breathing was choppy and all she could do was sob. She didn’t know why she was in the first place. It’s not like her and Sokka were...dating...in the first place. But she knew deep down that she wanted him. Yet she couldn’t have him.

The orange haired boy groaned sleepily as someone shook his shoulders gently, a familiar panicked voice filling his ears. He opened his eyes lazily, his hazy vision catching vividly on the first thing he saw.
Tohru.
He smiled instinctively, reaching up to cup her cold cheek with his hand. "Tohru?" he asked, noticing the panic in her eyes as he sat up quickly. "What's wrong?"
"I'm so sorry to wake you like this but … you have work soon but your alarm didn't go off," she said apologetically, leaning into his touch as he let his fingers stroke her cheek.
"Oh, that," he said with a tired yawn, letting himself fall back onto his elbows. It still felt strange for him to sleep in a bed – it was somehow always too soft for his liking – but he had no plans to make Tohru sleep on a futon.
She wouldn't complain, but he wanted her to be as comfortable as possible. And he didn't have the strength or the heart to keep away from her, so he gladly put up with the extra comfort. Even if it did make him a groggy mess every morning.
"I guess in all the excitement of yesterday, I must have forgotten to tell you."
"Tell me what?"
"I called Sensei at the dojo and explained to him what had happened. He allowed me to take the week off work, and I swore him to secrecy, so we don't need to worry about anyone else finding out or anything."
"You really took the week off?" Tohru squeaked, a note of happiness slipping into her tone.
"Yeah," he said, rubbing the back of his head bashfully. "Since we're newlyweds and all, I guess I wanted to spend this time with you. It's not a proper honeymoon but at least we'll be together."
Despite the ridiculousness of their situation, the timing really couldn't have been more perfect. Tohru hadn't received a job offer yet, and he had accrued some holiday from his past two months at the dojo. So for the next week at least, he and Tohru would be able to spend some quality time together.
"That's wonderful Kyo-kun!" Tohru said excitedly, her voice rising several octaves with every word. He smiled without reserve, getting the exact reaction out of his wife as he had hoped for as she fell into him.
Her arms wrapped around his middle in a tight hug as she squealed words he had no hope of ever deciphering. He gazed at her in quiet contentment as she rested her chin on his chest and looked up at him, her eyes bright with excitement.
"So," he said softly, running a hand through her hair. "What do you want to do this week?"
"I just want to spend all my time with you," she said, the smile on her face refusing to budge.
"That's reassuring since we'll be spending the rest of our lives together but … maybe you could be a little more specific? Besides, I plan to spend so much time with you that you'll be sick of my face by the end of it."
Tohru sat up straight, her face scrunching adorably. "I could never be sick of you. And you have the most wonderful face." Kyo scrunched up his own face to match hers and Tohru giggled. "It's even more wonderful when you do that."
"So, about where you want to go?" he prompted again.
"Well …" Tohru hummed, considering their options carefully. Kyo knew the exact moment she figured out what she wanted. Her eyes lit up with a smile before it found its way to her lips and she let out an unexpected gasp. "Oh, I know the perfect place! We should go to-"
The rest of her sentence was lost to him as he pulled her down and kissed the words away before she could voice them. Her lips were as soft and welcoming as a lazy summer's day and he pulled away from her before he lost himself in the daydream of her; but not before stealing several light pecks for good measure.
"Hey, you didn't let me finish," Tohru said quietly, her voice still a little distracted from their kiss.
"I know that face," he replied, flicking her nose gently. "You want to go to the beach, don't you?"
"I do, but … how did you know that?"
"It doesn't matter," he replied, refusing to give up all his secrets. "But if that's what you want, then that's where we'll go. I'll call Hatori and see if we can get one of the Sohma houses."
"Really!?"
"Yes, really," he chuckled. "Uh, hey. Where are you going?" he asked as she slid out of his reach and hopped off the bed, taking all the warmth with her.
"To start packing," Tohru called over her shoulder. "We're going to the beach Kyo-kun! This is going to be so much fun!"
"Yeah, it is," Kyo replied, letting his gaze linger on her for a moment.
A few hours and a train journey filled with Tohru's bubbly babbling later, the pair found themselves walking along the beachfront hand-in-hand. They'd already dropped their bags off at the house to settle in and were now enjoying the rest of their day in peace.
"You're smiling an awful lot," Kyo pointed out as yet another passer-by eyed them endearingly. Kyo couldn't even bring himself to care that people were staring at them. He was too enchanted by the girl beside him to be bothered by anything else.
"Oh," she said in surprise. "I guess I keep doing it without realising."
Kyo watched on in amusement as she tried to keep a straight face for a moment. As expected, she was spectacularly terrible at it, the edges of a smile lingering on her mouth as she tried and failed to fight it off.
Her smile was daylight incarnate; it couldn't be stopped by anything, not even her own sheer willpower.
"Hey Tohru," Kyo said, attempting to conceal his own grin. "I didn't point it out to be mean or so that you'd stop. You never have to stop yourself from smiling."
"Oh good," she said with an exhaustive sigh. "That was really hard. I kept trying to make it go away, and I even tried thinking of things to make me sad, but it didn't work. I kept seeing you out of the corner of my eye and the smile kept coming back."
Kyo rolled his eyes lovingly, knocking her gently with his shoulder. "I'm glad we're not seeing anyone we know anytime soon," he mused. "They'd take one look at your goofy grin and know something was up."
"Yeah," she agreed, her dreamy smile back in place as she pressed herself closer to Kyo. "They definitely would."
"Should we go and build that sandcastle you wanted?" he asked, noticing that the tide had gone out a little, leaving several glittering shells in its wake.
"Absolutely!" she said, pulling him towards the sand without hesitation with all the girlish delight one would expect from a child.
Despite their efforts, Kyo and Tohru's sandcastle didn't look much better than the one they had made the last time they were out here. As Kyo gazed back at it from the water's edge, it still looked more like a sand igloo than a palace of any sort. Hopefully the shells they were collecting would spruce up its appearance a little bit.
Kyo started with a hiss as the cold surf rushed over his feet, his toes sinking into the wet sand uncomfortably. He hadn't intended to come this close to the water in their search, but Tohru was adamant that the best shells were always the ones freshly washed up, and so he had followed her closer and closer to the sea.
His wife was currently standing knee deep in the salty water, crouching occasionally to sift through the water in search of shells whilst he stood nearby, a bucket of their spoils clutched in his hand.
"Look at this one, Kyo-kun!" Tohru shouted, and Kyo shielded his eyes from the low sun as she held her hand up towards the sky. Despite his good eyesight, all he could make out was a dark shadow clutched in her palm as she bounded over to him.
"Wait, where are you going?" he shouted after her as she completely bypassed him and the bucket in his hands, rushing straight towards the sandcastle instead.
"You have to see it on top!"
He followed after her, dropping the bucket of shells in the sand beside their castle before doing the same with himself. He watched silently as Tohru positioned the shell she'd found on the very tip of their sandcastle, looking intensely proud of herself as she turned to him with a soft 'ta-da!'.
The white shell she'd found sat at the very tip of the sand pile, spiralling towards the sky with speckles in various shades of orange decorating its exterior. "It's looks great," he commented. "Really draws the attention away from … all the rest of it," he added with a chuckle, the girl squeaking in protest before attempting to tackle him with one of her infamous hugs.
He dodged her with a practiced ease, and she missed him completely, toppling to the soft sand in a fit of giggles. "You're not getting any better at that you know, I can see you coming from a mile off," he pointed out as she crawled over to him and reached for some shells in the bucket.
"I'll just have to practice harder," she replied, her eyes reflecting the sun behind him. "Then I'll be able to hug you whenever I want!"
"You can already do that, you know. You don't need to learn how to be stealthy to do it." She didn't respond, and it wasn't until he noticed her busying herself with placing the remaining shells that he realised it was because she was flustered. Maybe now was a good time to tell her, he wondered.
He moved to kneel beside her, letting his hand drift over hers deliberately as he readjusted one of the shells. He saw her watching him from the side of his eye, but he took a lesson from her and occupied his attention by adding to the ring of shells at the base of the castle. "I never told you Tohru, but …"
He stopped, shaking his head as the words he wanted to say refused to find purchase in his mouth. Tohru was watching him curiously, her hand curled tightly by her chest. She didn't normally do that unless she was nervous, and Kyo knew he had to say something to stop her from panicking, even if it wasn't what he'd originally intended.
"I could teach you to be stealthier," he declared after a moment, finally letting himself meet her eyes. "
"That would be nice," she replied softly, but her smile slipped a little as she spoke. She knew him too well to not notice he'd changed the topic, but he was grateful that she didn't push him on it. Maybe he could try and tell her what he really wanted to later, they were going to be here for a few more days after all.
Even still, he didn't like that she'd be dwelling on his unsaid words for the rest of the night. He needed something to distract and lift her spirits, and he knew just the thing. As she reached for another shell, Kyo grabbed the bucket and stood up.
"We've still got loads left Kyo-kun, we don't need any more shells yet," Tohru said, watching him curiously as he shook the bucket in her direction. The contents rattled against each other enticingly but as she went to reach for one again, he lifted it clean out of her reach.
"Uh-uh. You don't get this back until I know for sure just how terribly you can throw a punch. I can't teach you to be stealthy without knowing," he said with a mischievous grin.
"Huh," she said, her eyes wide with alarm.
"Come on. You can either punch me, or you can try and take the bucket back yourself," he said, grinning as Tohru hesitantly got to her feet. With every step she took towards him, Kyo lifted the bucket higher into the air.
He knew that she was too short to ever be able reach it, but he also knew she was too stubborn not to try anyway.
"So which is it?" he asked as she stood in front of him, her hands cradled in front of her. He watched as her brows slipped into a determined frown. She jumped for the bucket, her fingers catching nothing but empty air as her feet landed on the sand again.
She tried a couple more times, and Kyo enjoyed himself entirely too much every time she muttered under her breath when he lowered the bucket only to raise it out of reach as she jumped for it.
"Okay, you win Kyo-kun. I'm never going to be able to reach it," she said breathlessly, collapsing against him and clinging onto his shirt.
He raised a single eyebrow. "Does that mean you're going to punch me?"
She shook her head vehemently as she turned out towards the ocean. "What if I actually hurt you?"
"You're so puny, do you really think you'll be able to?" he said, his tone softening as he finally relented and handed her the bucket of seashells. He'd expected her to return to her sandcastle project, but instead, Tohru placed the bucket on the floor and reached for his hands.
"Oh no, I'm so sorry Kyo-kun!"
"Huh. You're sorry for not punching me?" he asked, suddenly confused by where Tohru's thoughts had drifted.
"No, not that. The days almost over and we haven't done a single thing of your choice yet," she said sadly.
"Oh, is that all," he replied with a soft chuckle. "I'm having fun just being with you, so you don't need to worry about that."
"Are you sure?" she asked, the worry still evident on her face. Kyo sighed and cupped her face in his hands, resting his forehead against hers.
"Yes," he reassured her. "Yes, I'm sure."
"You know, we still have a little time before the sun goes down. Is there anything you'd like to do?" she asked, her voice so quiet that Kyo wondered whether she was whispering. He glanced out at the ocean behind him, the sky a kaleidoscope of oranges and pinks as the sun began to set over the dark waves.
"Actually, there's one thing I'd like to do," he said, letting out a quiet breath before turning back to an expectant Tohru.
"Anything."
Kyo dropped to the sand and tugged Tohru down with him, guiding her into the space between his legs so they faced the sea and the sunset beyond.
"This," he said softly, holding her close and resting his chin against her shoulder. "I just want to do this." A content smile settled onto his lips as Tohru entangled their fingers and the pair settled into a comfortable quiet as the world drifted into darkness around them.

the most wonderful time (crystal/gigi) - aries
summary - it’s winter, it’s too early in the morning, and gigi and crystal are going ice skating.
a/n - it sure as shit is mid-april, and i sure as shit did just write a christmassy fic because it’s what i wanted to read in quarantine. self care! i’m not used to writing happy stuff and it shows, but i needed more of these clowns in my life after untucked last night. on ao3 here!
It’s 8:30am, the streets are near enough empty, and Gigi can’t help but be incredibly jealous of everyone else that’s obviously sleeping in late on this lovely Saturday morning, especially in this God-awful weather.  When she arrives at Crystal’s house, she’s unsure of what to do. For a moment, she considers getting out of the car and knocking, but it feels too childish, somehow, so she resorts to texting. It doesn’t take long for her to answer.
Gigi barely has time to register the sound of Crystal’s excited laughter before she opens the door and climbs into the passenger seat, and when Gigi turns to look at her, she suddenly feels extremely underdressed. Of course Crystal’s wearing a Christmas sweater - she wouldn’t expect anything else - but apparently she took today’s plans as an invite to specifically wear the brightest, ugliest one Gigi’s ever laid eyes on, and after years of Christmas sweater days at work, that says a lot. Sighing, she looked down at her own much more plain black shirt.
‘Was it not enough to drag me to the markets this early, in the snow, on a Saturday? Did you have to come dressed as a tree ornament as well?’ Crystal rolls her eyes in response and fastens her seatbelt, but for a split second, Gigi sees a flash of genuine insecurity on her face.
‘Is it really too much? I can go and get changed.’
‘No, you’ll blend in. It’s fine. There,’ Gigi replies, motioning to the takeaway cup of hot chocolate that sits, albeit lukewarm by now, in the cup holder. ‘It might not still be warm, but it’s there. There’s a mince pie in the little bag for you too -’ she pauses, gauging Crystal’s reaction, but she doesn’t look immediately disgusted, ‘-so you can have that if you’re hungry.’
‘Thank you! I’ll get lunch or whatever while we’re out,’ she replies, obviously distracted by the prospect of a mince pie.
To Gigi’s surprise, the rest of the drive passes reasonably quickly. They arrive in the city by about ten o’clock, and despite the fact that the markets themselves have only been open for two days or so, the streets are already streaming with people. It takes another half an hour to find a place to park, but then they’re free to roam the ornately decorated streets, cold drinks in hand. Whoever it is that got stuck in charge of decorations really hasn’t done an awful job at all, Gigi thinks; strings of multicoloured lights hang from basically every available surface that’s more than a foot off of the ground, there are signs on every corner directing tourists and locals alike to the nearest place to buy several million types of festive merchandise, and even the quickly falling, oddly disorientating snow manages to look vaguely magical under the glow of the stalls’ candles. Crystal looks as if she’s just stepped out of the car into her own personalised version of heaven, and twirls around, sticking her arms out to catch snowflakes on the sleeves of her coat. She turns around, catches Gigi staring and glares at her jokingly as if to tell her not to ruin her festive fantasy.
‘Where to first?’ she questions, unable to hide her almost childlike excitement. Gigi throws her empty coffee cup in the nearest bin and consults a sign that lists the many attractions.
‘There’s an ice skating rink about ten minutes that way if you’re up for it,’ she sighs, realising her mistake almost instantly. She doesn’t know how to ice skate to save her life, but judging by the look on Crystal’s face, she’s never heard a better idea.
‘What are we waiting for, then? Come on!’ Crystal beams, and all of a sudden Gigi’s being dragged through streams of tourists towards the igloo-shaped rink in the distance. She sighs, lamenting her fate. If any higher powers were looking down on her and seeing that this is, in fact, the last thing she wants to spend my morning doing, they’d make it easier for her to just go in and get it over with, but apparently not; there’s a huge queue to even get to the ticket desk.
‘God, that’ll take ages,’ muses Crystal. Gigi rolls her eyes, convinced that the line should be a good enough indication that they should find another activity. Crystal evidently doesn’t agree; she marches herself (and, by extension, Gigi, who’s still holding onto her arm) up to the very end of the abnormally long line. ‘Excuse me,’ she begins, tapping the exhausted-looking man in front of us on the shoulder, ‘how long do you think the wait will be?’. He gives her a tired look before telling her that he has no idea and that it could be an hour at this rate, apparently. Gigi groans, but that doesn’t seem to stir Crystal, who thanks him with a smile and pulls out her phone, visibly prepared to wait it out.
‘Aren’t you tired?’ Gigi whines, and Crystal looks back at her in surprise.
‘No! Well, earlier, sure, but all I really need to wake me up is a hot chocolate, and you sorted me out with that one.’
‘If I’d have known it’d make you this perky, I’d have just gotten you a bottle of water,’ Gigi replies snarkily, but Crystal doesn’t seem offended in the slightest.
The line inches forward and continues to do so at a horribly slow rate for about thirty-five minutes until they’re finally close to the front. Until now, neither of them could see the entry fees. This actually turns out to be a blessing in disguise. If she’d seen how much entry was earlier, Gigi thinks, there’s no way she’d have stayed in the queue for more than thirty seconds.
‘Thirty dollars for an hour? ’ she whispers in horror, elbowing her in the side. ‘We could build our own ice rink for that much. Fuck. ’
‘Don’t be so stingy,’ Crystal mutters back. ‘It’s all about the experience, you know? Plus, I told you, I’ll get lunch.’ Reluctantly, Gigi slides her money over the counter and trudges into the igloo to rent her skates.
After way too much hassle attempting and failing to tie them, they finally step onto the ice. In Gigi’s case, this includes immediately falling back down and potentially fatally injuring herself in the process. Crystal, who is apparently an expert at figure skating, looks down at her. She bites her lip to stop herself from breaking into a fit of laughter, which is more patronising, Gigi decides, than it would be to actually laugh. Gigi rolls her eyes and takes Crystal’s hand to pull herself up, then hobbles over to the side, grabbing the railing. Crystal obviously can’t hold in her laughter anymore - she actually cackles when she spots Gigi almost lose her balance again. She skates over to her in a way that’s so smooth it feels like a direct attack
‘How does it feel to know you just paid a whole thirty dollars to fall flat on your ass?’ Crystal stops, shredding ice as she turns her foot towards Gigi. What looks like a four year old boy kitted out in three scarves and a wooly hat that’s every colour possible skates past and points at Gigi, laughing to his mom. She shoots him a glare, closes her eyes, and channels every elegant professional Olympic skater she’s ever seen. She tries to step forward and skate again, but her movements are more akin to a baby deer in Louboutins than any kind of professional.
Gigi has to admit defeat when she falls once more and smacks her head on the barrier to her right. Crystal obviously finds this hilarious , and can barely stop herself from falling over too, she’s laughing that much.
‘Oh my God, I didn’t expect you to be so bad at this,’ she wheezes, and Gigi shoots her a venomous glare. ‘Do you want one of those penguin things with the handles?’ she asks between spurts of laughter, motioning to the same four year old from before; he’s now holding a penguin-shaped balance aid and whizzing around to the discontent of his parents.
‘No,’ Gigi insists, struggling onto her feet once again. ‘I’m not a child. I can skate.’ Trying to prove her point, more to herself than anything, she pushes herself forward about a foot and manages to stay upright for a whole second without grabbing onto the barrier for stability. ‘How can you do this so well?’
‘I was a figure skater when I was little,’ Crystal answers, gliding effortlessly forwards to join her. ‘I quit when I was about thirteen, so I can’t do anything, like,’ she sticks out her arms in a grand-looking flourish, ‘fancy, but I can still balance.’ She gives Gigi a once-over as she clings to the side of the rink. ‘And that’s more than can be said for some people.’
‘I can balance!’ Gigi shouts, focusing more on defending herself than actually proving herself right. As she crashes to the ice once again, she’s not convinced Crystal believes her at all.
‘I’m never letting you drag me anywhere like that again, you bitch,’ Gigi sighs as they step down the stairs out of the rink and make a beeline for the nearest food stall. Crystal laughs and grabs her hand, swinging it as they walk.
‘You’re the one that suggested we go, actually,’ she replies, and steers the two of them towards a quaint-looking wooden cabin advertising German hotdogs.
‘I didn’t expect you to want to, though,’ Gigi pouts. ‘I didn’t want you to upstage me.’
‘Tough,’ Crystal grins. ‘Get used to it, sweetheart, I’m basically an Olympian.’
