Ichiban stuck the label of his bottle onto Joon-gi's sleeve. Joon-gi picked it off and folded it neatly in half, not missing a beat in his explanation.
"- so that's my personal view on the best entry point for the comics, though it's still largely debated upon," he finished. "I wouldn't listen to those who say to start with the Williams run. That would be like reading the last page of a book first."
"... The Americans have got it all wrong," Ichiban said, frazzled by this complex web of information. "If I wanna start reading a manga back home, all I gotta do is pick up volume one. This shit is too complicated."
"I don't disagree." His momentum calming down, Joon-gi glanced towards the quieting beach. The tide was beginning its retreat. "... It seems I've been keeping you here for a while."
Ichiban shifted in his seat, checking his watch. Indeed, an hour and a half had passed since they sat down at the beach bar. "Huh. I hadn't noticed."
"Sarcasm, I'm assuming," Joon-gi chuckled.
"No. I really hadn't noticed," Ichiban said. "Time flies when I'm with ya, Han-chan. And that wasn't sarcasm either."
"I find that hard to believe." With a hint of colour in his cheeks, Joon-gi rapped his fingers against his beer bottle. "My apologies, Kasuga-san. If you have better things to do, I won't stop you."
The stiffness had returned, when moments before he had been full of quiet enthusiasm. It was a more familiar sight to Ichiban, but not for the better.
"I can't think of anywhere else I'd rather be," Ichiban told him.
"... You do realise that also sounds sarcastic?" Joon-gi asked, with a tiny smile.
"C'mon, dude. You should trust that I mean it by now," he scolded. "Keep goin', Han-chan."

There's a couple of Caucasian BNF-lites on here in the BTS fandom who are real microaggression factories. One common thread is refusing to disclose their racial identity (as in, they won't say they are white because they see requests for transparency as aggressive and demanding) even as they discourse at length about how BTS are selling out their Korean identity by recording English singles rather than it being an obvious pandemic strategy/Grammy bid. There was one who acted like being a white non-American Anglophone from the First World was a marginalized, much-appropriated identity. It reminds me of the anon from yesterday who acted like "Westerner" is a slur. The mentality of concern trolling and self-victimizing is the same.
--
Sigh. I don't think anyone should have to disclose if they're just going about their business, but I've run into this type of person in other fandoms, and yeah... (I have no idea who's who in BTS fandom on Tumblr. My exposure is friends' discord and people who come to my inbox.)
You can have cultural competency without being ethnically [whatever], but if you're pontificating about your Authentic Knowledge, people are going to ask you how you know. I have a couple of friends who grew up in Japan who aren't Japanese. I know plenty of people who majored in some other country's literature, including plenty who read my tumblr. It's fine to claim competency when you actually have it. You don't have to be a weird dick about it.
The fact that these people aren't willing to just go "I've lived in Korea for a while teaching English" or "I've been in kpop fandoms for 10 years" or something tells me they know perfectly well they don't have enough cultural competency to back up their claims.
If they're from Europe, they should especially shut the fuck up about BTS singing in English unless they want to look at in terms more like "Gosh, it kind of sucks that to win Eurovision, you pretty much have to sing in English or maybe French. Shouldn't we be encouraging more appreciation for songs you have to look up the lyrics to?"
Which, tbh, is a position I personally do hold. I think it's terrible that market forces so strongly push pop artists towards a lingua franca, and I think it's even worse that it's so frequently English instead of more of a mix of a few different big languages.
(I think some level of this is inevitable. There will always be languages with greater cultural reach and languages that get the short end of the stick. It's just the current extreme level I object to and think could plausibly change. I'd like to see more things like KARD's kpop with a lot of Korean lyrics but pandering choruses in Spanish and moombahton beats.)
But the idea that BTS of all groups are being unfaithful to their artistic inspiration by focusing on English? I think some people need to go listen to Hip Hop Lover again and look up the names therein!
BTS' most recent all-English songs are some of my least favorite of their oeuvre, but the mere fact of them wanting to get good enough at English to do more in it is both an obvious step for their careers and highly authentic to their teenage selves. Hating on them being into English is like hating on some weeb majoring in Japanese, for fuck sake.
They were rap fanboy America-boos!

Please read this article, if you are ignorant about racism and a Non-Black person.
"Relating To Our Culture:
24. Where are you from?
25. Can you speak *insert African or Caribbean language here*
26. Sis.......
27. Issa husband *heart eyes*
28. Am I allowed to say the "n-word"?
29. But what if it's in a song?
30. Have you heard the new song by *insert mainstream rap artist here*"
"For #25, just like how it's weird to ask a white person if they can speak Italian or ask an Indian person if they can speak Gujarati, you really shouldn't ask me if I can speak Patwa if I'm Jamaican. Furthermore, Patwa isn't even a language, it's a dialect, so please educate yourself before you ask me stuff like that. For #24, my friend and I were just having a conversation about this. She's African American, which means her ancestors were literally shipped from West Africa, stripped of their culture, and put to work as slaves. The only culture they know is the "American (Europeanized) culture" that the slave masters whipped into them. So when you ask them where they're from they're like, "uhhh...." because... they literally just don't know. Stop being ignorant. #26 and #27... just stop, please. You're not my sis, and you wanna slander me for using African American Vernacular, yet you wanna say "issa" on twitter? You sound dumb, please sit down, and be humble. And I feel like I shouldn't even have to explain #28 and #29, yet people still think they can ask me if they're allowed to say it."
"Relating to Social Justice/Inequality:
35. Why is everyone kneeling now? It's not a trend to disrespect our country.
36. Don't you think affirmative action is unfair to everyone else?
37. Shouldn't you focus on black on black crime instead of police brutality?
38. The black men are in jail because they are guilty of their crimes
39. Black Lives Matter is pretty violent, don't you think?"
"I'm sorry, but if you're not black, don't talk to me about social justice issues unless you have thoroughly educated yourself. If you think I'm making this about race, I'm not. I have a lot of non-black friends who I talk to about social inequalities and we're on the same page. But if you're just saying opinions that your parents have drilled into you or that you hear Trump saying, without doing any research about it to find out truths behind this stuff, then don't talk to me."
"Don't tell me about the black men in jail, when most of them are doing life sentences for petty crimes. Don't tell me about disrespecting our country when this country has been disrespecting my people since they dragged us here on ships."
"The kneeling movement literally has nothing to do with disrespecting our armed forces or who's off at what war. We sit down during the National Anthem because it's a song that preaches this idea of "freedom" when blacks were promised their freedom after they served in the Revolutionary War, and still never got truly received freedom for another 100 years. Even then, they weren't really free. We're kneeling because of this country still doesn't treat black people like they are real citizens of this country."
"Affirmative action is another thing I want to touch on in another Odyssey article, especially around the time of college acceptances. The things people have said to me and my friends about affirmative actions and how "unfair" it is, is really baffling. Educate yourselves."
"40. I don't see color and you shouldn't either
41. Not everything has to be about race
42. That's reverse racism!
43. Racism doesn't exist anymore.
Ridiculous. Nonsensical. I've said this many times, and I'll say it again:
There is no way for racially oppressed people to be labeled as racist."
"The definition of racism is oppressing a group of people because of their race and because the oppressing group thinks their own race is superior. How can I, a black girl who's been oppressed her whole life, be racist to white people, who have privilege in this country? How? There's such thing as PREJUDICE. Yes, prejudice does work both ways. Am I justifying it? Of course not. But there is no such thing as reverse racism."
"Also, news flash: If you're describing someone and you just say, "she's short, black, glasses", you're NOT BEING RACIST. You're just describing someone's appearance so the person you're talking to knows who the heck you're talking about. Now, if you said something derogatory about them being black, then that's racist. But I just wanted to clear that up, because people have the wrong perceptions about what it means to be racist."
"Moving on, please don't talk to me about how you don't see color when you know good and well that this country was based on race. A lot of the issues we have today are because of race. Part of me thinks that maybe we should be a "colorless" society because, in the end, we're all just people with souls and bones and organs. We all look the same on the inside. But then again, somehow some people will still find a way to oppress others. The other part of me thinks that race matters A LOT. If you're racially colorblind, that means you're not able to see the disadvantages around you because you are of the so-called "superior race"."
Relating to The Struggle:
"44. Why isn't there a white history month?"
"45. White privilege is a myth."
"46. I've listened to Jay-Z's newest album/took a race class/read the autobiography of Malcolm X/watched Roots... I totally understand your struggle."
"Stop right there. Again, please educate yourselves before you ask anybody certain things. With #46.... there's no way anyone who's not black can understand the struggle black people have gone and are still going through. You can definitely empathize with the struggle. You can definitely know about it. But if you have not actually been through it, physically, mentally, emotionally, and financially, then you are in no place to talk to me about you understanding this stuff. You never can and you never will."

Celebrating Prince: discovering a timeless artist and his meaningful and impactful art. Part 1. From the 1970s to early 1990s
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hi music lovers, it has been a while since my last post. Today is an important day and as a fan of Prince and as I’m extremely passionate about his art, my tribute could surely not miss. Since this article is extremely long I decided to divide it into more than 1 big post and do a whole week celebrating this immense artist, his life and his meaningful and astonishing art. Additionally let me say that I began this article in summer 2019 and I managed to finish it just now and to be honest, it is a 20 thousand words article. With this said, I hope you enjoy this new format, I hope you guys enjoy this article and I hope it will make you reflect on how impactful and important was and still is Prince’s art.
First, let me say that I have heard so many things about Prince’s artistry. Some comments came from uneducated people who did not even take a second of their lives to understand, and do research on his art. Hence, I think the time to shed some light on Prince’s art, has come (finally). I hope to help some of those people understand this artist better and to finally appreciate him the way he deserves. We owe Prince big time. Today’s music and musicians  owe Prince everything. Without him, many of the artists we listen to today, WOULD NOT BE EXISTING. As we all know, Prince loved to experiment with music, trying out new music genres, new styles, new harmonies, melodies, rhythms and so on. This is one of the factors that led this legend to create a unique, wide and broad vault. There are so many songs of his that I love so much and that I find relevant for this article. The ones I chose, are going to prove that Prince and his music did not just revolve around sex and sexuality, (even if the artist through his music took the topic to another whole level). Through the article, we will see that Prince was more than all that I mentioned above. He was an extraordinary human being, blessed with so many enormous talents, with a beautiful mind, a uniquely pure soul. A true gift of God. With this in mind, let us start this article.
Starting with For You and the self-titled album “Prince” lyrically speaking they both are centered on the bittersweet feeling of love. However, what strikes me every time I listen to these masterpieces is that Prince was only 19 when he produced them. Moreover, the artist was skilled enough to produce, write all the lyrics, play all the harmonies and melodies and therefore compose all the arrangements for the songs and eventually record everything in the studio. He was only 19 with already an enormous talent.
Tumblr media
The next album I will tell you about is Controversy. Specifically, I will analyze two songs contained in the album, which are exactly the homonymous song Controversy and Ronnie Talk to Russia. Controversy was released in 1981 right after For you, Prince and Dirty Mind. This album is totally different from the previous three. Indeed, if we listen closely and attentively, we will discover that the dissimilarities lay in the sounds, melodies, lyrics, and intention with which this masterpiece was crafted. Speaking about the song Controversy, I find it extremely relevant and unique. Melodically and rhythmically, we can listen to a Prince who was enormously far from the Prince who produced and crafted I wanna be your lover and For you. Besides what I just mentioned, what I find hugely relevant about this masterpiece are the contents. Indeed, in this song, we can investigate how open-minded Prince was. The song was the product of the artist’s intelligence who took all the rumors and the fake news made against him and turned them into this song which not only was a smart clap back but it also hid an extremely deep meaning which lays in its bridge and is characterized by a spoken almost rapped part:
“ People call me rude, I wish we all were nude
I wish there was no black and white, I wish there were no rules
People call me rude, I wish we all were nude
I wish there was no black and white, I wish there were no rules
People call me rude, I wish we all were nude
I wish there was no black and white, I wish there were no rules
People call me rude, I wish we all were nude
I wish there was no black and white, I wish there were no rules “
The message Prince was delivering with this was  evident: it does not matter whether we’re straight or gay, black or white, female or male, we all should be one and we are all the same. In fact quoting the artist: “So life is just a game, we’re all just the same”. In my opinion, this song is such an anthem and a hymn of freedom, and through this masterpiece, Prince encourages each of us to be ourselves no matter what. Moreover, this masterpiece, I would say, was a predictor of Prince’s whole career, as from that moment on, through his music he had always delivered the message of freedom of mind, freedom of expression, freedom to be ourselves, and a message of love and unity. Another song that I find extremely relevant for this article is Ronnie Talk to Russia. As we can infer from the title, this track had social and political purposes. Indeed, the title refers to the 40th American President Ronald Regan. Through this song, we can see another side of the artist who was very much conscious and interested in social issues. Moreover, this song was written and composed in the 1980s which means it was in the middle of the Cold War between the United States and Russia and therefore the lyrics make even more sense. Prince with the extremely earnest masterpiece was encouraging the then-President of the United States of America, to open the dialogues with Russia before it had been too late. Indeed, as the artist sang:
“ Ronnie if you're dead before I get to meet ya
Before I get to meet ya
Before I get to meet ya
Ronnie if you're dead before I get to meet ya
Don't say I didn't warn ya
Ronnie talk to Russia before it's too late
Before it's too late
Before it's too late
Ronnie talk to Russia before it's too late
Before they blow up the world”
Tumblr media
After Controversy, 1999 was released. One of my favorite songs on this album is Free, which is probably one of the most underrated in Prince’s vault. A true hymn of freedom. In my opinion, the lyrics of this masterpiece are quite self-explanatory. Basically, in this song Prince is encouraging each of us to be glad about our freedom. The kind of freedom, Prince is talking about, is the freedom of the mind which is something extremely important and that should never be taken for granted. Besides that, another of the topics contained in this masterpiece is the fugacity of life, or else that life is so short and we should never take it for granted nor should we waste it as it is something extremely precious that needs to be cherished. Moreover, this song is introduced by the beat of a heart and some steps. Perhaps the artist had a specific motivation to use these two characteristics to the point that he even used them in the song. In my opinion, Prince might have used the heartbeat to symbolize life and therefore our freedom and the fact that we should be happy for what we have which is our freedom and our life; because as Prince said, it is something some people do not have. This peculiarity is well connected to the lyrics, indeed as Prince sings:
“I know your heart is beating, my drummer tells me so
If U take your life 4 granted, your beating heart will go”
Additionally, as regards the steps used to introduce the song, this is the second detail that is exceedingly well related to the lyrics as Prince sang to be glad that we are free to go anywhere we want. Musically speaking, there is another peculiarity that makes this song even more relevant. Prince’s voice and performance are two of the major key points of this masterpiece. Indeed, in my opinion, without the proper execution of a talented artist, this song would have lost its impact and hence would have been less meaningful. The heartfelt, emotional and genuine performance the artist delivered is what makes the song even more credible, and therefore impactful. Additionally, what I find mesmerizing about Prince, is how he had always been able to create a connection with the listener through his music.
Tumblr media
Jumping forward in time, in 1987 Prince released Sign ‘o’ the Times such a meaningful album. The album was released after Purple Rain (1984), Around the World in A Day (1985) and Parade (1986). In this masterpiece, Prince is delving into a wide range of different topics that shift from love, social issues, climate change, sex, death, new diseases, poverty, religion and so forth. Not only can we see Prince’s musical evolution in this masterpiece, but also how he was unraveling his true beautiful self as an artist and human being. There are three songs that I find extremely relevant for this article and these are the homonymous Sign ‘o the Times, Starfish and Coffee and The Cross.
Tumblr media
Starting with Sign O the Times, this song begins with an extremely strong bassline which is entirely played by Prince like all the other instruments in this song are. Indeed, this is the first album that is not played by the Revolution. Hence Prince with this masterpiece is showing one more time his immense musical skills. Also, the instrumental part of this masterpiece is, I would say, extremely simple and neat. Indeed, a few instruments were used to craft the song. However, the arrangement is quite complex. In my opinion, Prince might have kept the instrumental part simple and neat to confer more importance to the lyrics. This was an extremely well thought and ingenious choice as thanks to it the artist is having his listener to put all their attention to the monumental lyrics of the song. As I mentioned, the lyric is the fulcrum of this song. In fact, through the eloquent, self-explanatory and skillfully written lyric, Prince is delivering such an important message. Through this work the artist is externalizing all his concerns about climate changes and social issues such as the appearance of aids, drug addiction, and poverty. The relevance of this song is still extremely actual, now more than ever. The second song I mentioned, Starfish and Coffee, is probably my favorite in this album. Perhaps because it deals with a topic that is close to my heart. According to the internet, this song was inspired by a real person. Indeed, according to Prince’s then-girlfriend, Susannah Melvoin, the song is about one of her classmates who was extremely peculiar and ignored by all her classmates except Susannah. Needless to say, that when Prince heard the story and asked for more details and eventually Starfish and Coffee was born. In addition to that, Prince then confirmed on the old website love4oneanother that this song is specifically about a little girl with special needs. Lyrically speaking also this song, is extremely eloquent. The artist’s sensitivity and gentle personal touch in telling this moving story and depicting the main character is what makes the song unique. Besides the touching story behind the song, the extremely peculiar arrangements and melodies would suggest a happy song dealing with a happy story, rather than a sad story. However, Prince might have opted for this specific arrangement either to allure the listener to pay attention to the song, or to ease a song that would have been too painful if it had had an arrangement coherent with the lyrics. The third song I mentioned is The Cross. This masterpiece probably holds the most hermetic meaning among all the songs on this album. Although the title would suggest the Cross symbolizing Jesus Christ, his name is never mentioned. Moreover,  the heartwarming and reassuring lyrics and the monumental, almost Beatles-like arrangement, are two of the major points of the song. Indeed, the song opens with a few instruments and then their number increase as the melodies build up and expand like a beautiful flower opening and showing its beautiful colors. The cherry on the top of the pie is the artist’s emotional and impressive performance that never ceases to give me chills. Last but not least, I don’t know if it is just me, but this song and the intention of the performance and the arrangements are giving me Beatles vibes.
Tumblr media
Among all the albums produced, Music from Graffiti Bridge is perhaps one of my favorite by Prince. After Lovesexy (1988) and Batman Soundtrack (1989), the artist released the soundtrack of his third movie: Graffiti Bridge. (I really recommend this movie in case you have not seen it yet). This movie despite all the comments and criticisms it received, is, in my opinion, a masterpiece that delivers such a hugely important message. It is a pity that some people are not able to look beyond appearances to search for something deeper. The album boasts the presence of a special guest and music legend or else Dr. Funk, Uncle Funk aka George Clinton. Among the songs on this masterpiece, the most meaningful and relevant are New Power Generation, Elephants and Flowers,  and Still Would Stand All Time.
Tumblr media
The first song I mentioned is New Power Generation. The message it delivers applies extremely well to music today. Indeed, the message Prince has always strived to send out through his music and life was that music’s most important and highest purpose is to change the world and people for the better. Therefore, artists should make efforts to create music with that specific aim. This lesson should be applied to music today as most of the artists today do not create music to inspire people but rather for their own advantage. Besides, the artistic and personal evolution of the singer is quite undeniable. The arrangement of the song vaunts the presence of some of Prince’s talented fellow artists such as Morris Day who skillfully executed the drumline and the beautiful singer Rosie Gaines who with her signature voice is performing the powerful background vocals. Additionally, with the soulful and expressive vocals, Prince gave proof of his skills using a good portion of his vocal extension and lastly giving proof of an extremely broad range of vocal techniques.
Tumblr media
Another relevant song worth listening to is Elephants and Flowers. The song is perhaps one of the most spiritual on the album. The crystal-clear lyrics hide a deep meaning, lesson, and message of hope and love. In fact, through the metaphor of the Elephant and the flowers Prince is basically teaching that God created everything from something big as an Elephant to something as small as a flower. Hence, the lesson behind the metaphor is that God made us all and the prayers of those who believe in Him are not wasted in vain and He listens to them. Moreover, as in many of the artist’s songs, it could not be missed the implicit allusion to the afterworld which is being depicted as a beautiful place without sorrows, confusion, nor tears. Indeed as Prince sang:
Think I'm gonna fall in love tonight.
When I do, there won't be no more (confusion)
There won't be no more (no tears)
There won't be no more enemies, so that eliminates all the fear
And there won't be no sorrow, (sorrow)
There won't be no pain, (no pain)
There won't be no ball and no chain
Strip down, strip down, elephants and flowers.
Moreover, it is also important to pinpoint the instrumental part which is quite different from the artist’s previous works. The song is crafted with drums as the prevailing instrument followed by a skillfully played signature guitar solo. Although the relatively small number of instruments played, Prince has been able to craft an instrumental that sounds like a whole full orchestra. In my opinion, one of the reasons why the artist sometimes used a small number of instruments could be perhaps because he wanted to give importance to his vocals and the beautiful voices of the background singers. Another reason why might be that he wanted the audience to listen attentively to the lyrics. Moreover, another thing that I believe is of extreme importance, is that Prince played all the instruments in this masterpiece. Mind-blowing, isn’t it?
Tumblr media
Another song that I find relevant is Still would Stand all Time. This was the last song played in the movie. Unlike all the other songs on the album, this one is different: firstly, because after 13 funk, rock, and pop songs, the artist decided to experiment with another music genre which is soul. Through some crystal-clear lyrics, the artist delivered a precise and straightforward message. There were no implicit messages, no inferring. Hence, the meaning is as simple as it gets: universal love, love for one another and the hope in a better world full of love, where people could finally join together, love each other, without dishonesty, anger, fear, jealousy, and greed. A world where people leave their pasts behind and join together against injustices. A world where no man will rule another man. This is basically the message Prince has lived up to his whole life. This message can be applied to today’s world and society, as we live in a world ruled by greed and anger and sorrow when instead we should be loving each other like brothers and sisters without hate, racism, greed. Unfortunately, we live in a world where we lost most of our humanity and kindness. Back to the song. Yet the peculiarity that makes the song monumental, besides the beautifully written lyrics is the instrumental. First of all, to make you understand better how brilliant Prince was, I need to say that in his song, the artist used a three-tone sampled flute from Prélude À L'Après-Midi D'Un Faune by Claude Debussy, from the cd Images For Orchestra. Besides the sampled flute, the vocal part is  another relevant peculiarity. Indeed, Prince is giving one of the most touching, expressive and heartfelt performances that gets straight to the heart and soul of the listener. Additionally, not only are these vocals a joy for our ears but the choir and Prince are using an extremely wide range of vocals techniques that show how musically educated the artist was. Indeed, at the very beginning of the song we can listen to Prince singing the first line of the song and the choir using the echo technique repeats Prince’s line. The echo technique is used almost throughout the entire song, except for two lines where the vocal technique used is the call& response. Indeed, the first line where the vocal technique I mentioned, is used is:
Oh, love, love, oh love if you would just please give us a sign
Still would stand all time
In these two lines, Prince is singing the first one and the choir responds with the chorus. Moreover, the other part where this technique is used is:
Love, love, it’s not that far away if we all say yes and give it a try
(Got to give it, a try, yes!) still would stand all time (I say still)
(so many times) so many times, I thought I could not make it
(still would stand all time)
The first line is performed by the choir to which Prince responds with “Got to give it a try, yes”. The chorus is performed by the choir and Prince responds with “I say still”. In the third line, Prince and the choir switch their parts and Prince sings the mainline and the choir responds. Despite the vocal parts are dominant in this song, the instrumental is also deserving recognition. First of all, it is important to notice Prince’s ability to craft an extremely complex arrangement. Moreover, what I find mesmerizing is how this brilliant artist could use a broad spectrum of harmonies and melodies and still make them work perfectly. Indeed, if you listen attentively, you would hear Debussy flutes from the Prelude in perfect harmony with the melodies played on the piano and the beats of the drums. As regards to the piano, we can listen to several different and difficult techniques used to craft this beautiful melody. Also, it is relevant to mention the fact that Prince played each instrument you hear in this masterpiece. Moreover, I do not know if it is just me but this kind of song makes me miss Prince more and more. He had this beautiful ability to connect with people through his music and therefore touch our heart in a way only a few artists have been capable of. This song is one of them. A total monumental masterpiece.
This was the first part of a series of articles dedicated to Prince to celebrate his life and most importantly his art. Stay tuned for more. In the meantime stay home, stay safe and healthy. Peace and Love 4 one another. G💜

K two words in and I can tell this is gonna be sad here we go
Employees? Or maybe…other sides?
Minor key ok
SELF HARM ISNT OKAY
"WILL NOT CRY IN PUBLIC" NONONONO
So I heard of a good therapist just downtown-
The Watchtower-The Dø
I paused it cause I need a second after the last one
Guys as someone who dissosiates a lot I think Logan might be dissosiating
Dissosiating to protect himself from his emotions
Y'all just trust me in this one
Coming for the TØP brand I see
K ready to start again here we go
Fire beat I'm vibing with it
Is he trying to distance himself from his emotions to try and perform his tasks better like watching from a Watchtower???
This is the first character I've seen that might dissosiate which only means one thing
I'm gonna be projecting an unholy amount in my fanfiction
"No one in particular" hon who hurt you
City Lights=Emotions (which he considers distractions)??? Maybe??
I'm a William Finn fan come on this isn't my first rodeo
Art Is Dead-Bo Burnham
BO BURNHAM I WAS RIGHT
We all love some good Imposter Syndrome (tm)! :D
This gives Learning New Things About Ourselves' a whole new meaning
Ngl this is the first time I heard the degrading of the piano at the end and I'm here for it
In My Mind-Amanda Palmer
Oop we LOVE setting up impossible expectations for yourself to the point you have a cripplingly horrid self esteem! :D
Logan I've done this before and trust me it isn't worth it the mental breakdowns are too taxing
I'll do it when I'm older=I'm never gonna get around to it
I don't wanna be the person I wanna be either
Why do I perfectly understand every lyric am I ok
Live!!! While you!!!! Can!!!!
At least there's a happy ending
Okay so I've decided that once I'm done I'm gonna make a list of songs I think would fit in the playlist
Algorythym-Childish Gambino
K its spelled incorrectly get ready for some metaphors my dudes
Intro is cool definitely very very Logan WOAH OKAY CHAIN SMOKER
Gonna go look up lyrics I don't understand shit
The chorus sounds like Thanksgiving at my Aunt's house where like 100+ African American relatives blast house music and dance until their feet falls off
Nvm no it doesn't
GO OFF
ELPHABA BETTER WATCH OUT CHILDISH GAMBINO IS COMING FOR YOUR BELT
Adlibs are everything
Letter C-Zach Sherwin
This gives off the same vibes as that one pickle video by Charlie Puth
Roman vs Logan rap battle but it's this
I don't really see why this is related but sure
Time Adventure-The Marcus Hedgehog
Nostalgiaaaaaa
Okay Logan has too many songs talking about one (1) person who is it
I have a gut feeling that it's about Thomas and how Logan used to be enough "back then" but now he thinks he's not cause like let's be honest when was the last time someone gave Logan a strong sincere thank you for all that he does????Excluding DWIT (which doesn't really count in my opinion cause they said he was cool, not like an integral and arguably the most important and powerful side) nobody really appreciates Logan???? Hugs???
Anyway plz ignore this is just how my brain works
K next song
The Breach-clipping.
OKAY SLOW DOWN IM GONNA LOOK UP LYRICS
Is this Daveed Diggs???? I haven't listened to Hamilton in like forever is this Daveed Diggs???
LITERALLY PERFECY PARRALLEL TO LOGAN AND THE SIDES
Sound effects
Really just gonna fry my eardrums like that huh
What I Do For U-Ra Ra Riot
Okay scrap anything and everything I said about it being the sides Logan is 100% talking about Character!Thomas
Erase Me-Ben Folds Five
Ooh this intro reminds me of this one particular musical songs but I don't remember which one
Wait have I listened to this before????
I've listened to this before!
Okay I need to stop being distracted
NOOOOOO don't Erase Yourself!!!!
Logan really just do be having no Self Esteem don't he
Okay so theory: Logan didn't pop up in person in the last video because his eyes were too red from crying
I have 0 evidence so it's not a very good theory but…
Just throwing it out there
One More Time with Feeling-Regina Spektor
Oh no it's Regina Spektor
Oh no I'm gonna cry
Okay so Logan doesnt wanna block of all emotion, only permit some to show???? But most of the time block everything????
Did I get that???
Nobody!!!! Thanks!!!! Logan!!!!
Awww he just wants love and recognition
Tbh this sounds a lot like Roman they have so much in common despite their constant arguing
Galaxy Song-Monty Python
Ooh Monty Python
I haven't listened to Monty Python so I sadly don't know the context
Really just dissing all of the other sides aren't we
Can't really blame him tho
Very scientific
"Yeau~"
Sweet with dark undertones. Love it.
Equation-Hans Zimmer
Later I'm gonna check the equations if they're correct XD
Sunrise-In The Heights
!!!!!!
WHO???!!!!!
K to this is one of my favorite love songs ever it's just so sweet and as someone who's bilingual the concept is just amazingly wonderful so yeah I may be freaking out
Also because WHO??!!
Okay I said I wasn't a shipper but let's be honest this is probably about Roman not romantically but like
OR MAYBE JANUS???
IM SO CONFUSED
But Logan is definitely Nina in this situation it just fits so well with her character for the same reasons I really wanna play her (but never will cause I'm exactly 0% Latin American smh) yeah the pressures to be the smartest and then it backfiring horribly and oh God what if Inùtil is also in the playlist ahhhh
Okay moving on
Lifeboat-Heathers
WHAT
NO
NO
CONFORMITY RELATED ANGST LOGAN STOP BEING RELATABLE AHHHH
IS THIS CAPTAIN THOMAS??? THE OTHER SIDES AS A WHOLE??? AN ABSTRACT CONCEPT???
IM NOT OKAY
Bohemian Groove-Will Connolly
Okay I'm still not recovered from the last song but I need to continue or else I'm never gonna finish this playlist
Eeecccchhhhhoooo
Your friends haven't surpassed you Logan you belong with them okay????
Emptiness despite success??? Millennial who???
Vibing with it but also are you okay
Nvm I know the answer already
Hug All Ur Friends-Cavetown
Okay so Logan is a Cavetown gay noted
Self validation??? Who's she???
Lies. You care so much about what other people *sides* think about you
Maybe Logan listens to this song to remind himself to not care too much
But it doesn't work and it's getting to him more and more
Oh
That took a turn
Breathin'-Thomas Sanders
Good move
Don't really have much to say on this
The Bidding
Spoopy
Alchoholic!Logan
New idea for us fan writers
The pronunciation of beurgoise
Okay I'm like pretty certain at this point that all of the songs that mention a someone else is about Character!Thomas
A Better Version
OHMYGOD I LOVE THIS MUSICAL ITS SO UNDERRATED I HAVE LISTENED TO THE SOUNDTRACK AND UNGODLY AMOUNT OF TIMES YESSSSS
But also since I know the song in terrified cause the feels are gonna come in I just know it
Wait so is Jayce supposed to be Thomas???
I am suddenly feeling much more uncertain about my certainty
Okay let me unpause and just listen to it (even though I already know all of the lyrics)
Okay so I'm a dumbass and apparently this song isn't even part of the playlist
Tumblr media
Okay so I'm an idiot and the last few songs have all been "related to playlist" and not in the actual playlist I'm big dumb.
Anyway here's my list of songs I think would fit. (BTW, I only went off of lyrics for these ones. I realize that there’s a general sound and vibe for the playlist, but I decided not to follow it.)
Oh No! ~ MARINA
Hug All Ur Friends ~ Cavetown
Bohemian Groove ~ Will Connolly
Guiltless ~ Dodie Clark
Lifeboat ~ Laurens O’Keefe
The Bidding ~ *idk who*
I Am Not A Robot ~ MARINA
Inútil - Lin Manuel Miranda
Through The Eyes Of A Child ~ AURORA
Community Gardens ~ The Scary Jokes
Let me know if I should do this with the other playlists as well! :)

The kitchen
Last night I was reading a manga book that I used to like. That’s how desperate I am for a book by Chevy Stevens. The manga book was kinda boring and it did not take to long for me to fall asleep. I don’t usually read manga books unless it’s funny to read and if the art is top notch (l am an artist) and or if there are samurai in them. I had a strange dream about trying to find Ana and Nils in a strange city. They used to be my childhood friends. It was a beautiful dream…. even though I fucking forgot to take my fucking sleeping pills.
6:14 a.m Been thinking about the the victims of the London van attack. I feel sorry for them and their families. My heart, prayers, love, thoughts, and chants still go out to them. I would like to ring the necks of the perpetrators of this fucked up attack. Nothing worse nor more annoying than a fucking jihadist bitch. I hate using the big J word on the internet. I think the word “Jihad” should be a swear word or be forbidden to say (for Muslims and non-muslims) and I don’t fucking looking like that fucking word at all.
6:14 a.m (again) When I was writing the first comment about “jihad” I realized that I have Jill today. Sounds fun today, right? Yes but I am also dreading it because of the whole day there will be country music. And I can’t do anything about it. It is insidious and can mask itself as different genres of music but you can hear the fucking twang and Christian bullshit. I hate country music as much as the word “Jihad”. And right now I have to blast my ears with music I like and enjoy it while I still can before I am subjected to this ear torture. God I fucking hate country music!!!! 😠😡😤🤢👿👎🏼 P.S. I guess I have to think about my to favorite things (jumbo jets and Airports) and go to my Happy place, which is the Airport. ✈️🛩🛫🛬✈️🛬🛫🛩
RANDOM FACT ALERT!!! I was watching the news this morning and heard that it is to hot to fly jumbos. I did not know that. Apparently the air is less dense which mean you need to use more speed and a longer runway to take off normally. I got this from the U.S news.
8:09 a.m Jill picked yours truly up. We are going to the fucking library this morning. Thank fucking God. I can get another Chevy Stevens book. 📚Today we are going to scrap book this afternoon 👍🏼😀 and having pizza for lunch. Very yum 👅. The country music is blaring and it is driving me insane. I’d like to a country singer but that would bring me to his or her level😠. I fucking hate it. 👿But I also hate gospel music which is quick paced version of country music only without the twang and guitars. 😡I hate them both🤢😭👎🏼😤. I think music should be universal and appeal to all religions but that’s my opinion. 🤔Give me punk, death metal, goth, German techno, industrial, EDM, hip hop, and last but not least is horrorcore rap. 😊
8:23 a.m Just picked up big mouth resume girl.😠 She is especially bitchy today and won’t stop talking. If only God knew how much I hate her. I can’t even hear the fucking country music. It’s better than listening to this bitch. 😡👎🏼One more fucking word out of her fucking mouth I am going to punch her out😤. She tried to convert me to Christianity 🤢 and when I refused to convert she started turning my respite friends against me. She is rude to me and cyberbullys me to death on face book. Whenever she’s in the room people talk to her and they end up talking about neurotypical shit. The shit I can stand and talk about. They end up talking about cars, apartments, money, jobs, resumes and guys. Note: She is a fucking coward. I can’t talk about guys because I am lesbian. 🏳️‍🌈For once I want to talk about what I want to talk About. I guess smart people are hard to fucking find🤔.
9:20 a.m Just arrived at my respite house. This day I don’t feel over runned over and trashed. That’s fucking good. I think. We are going the bleeping library today at 10. Me! Want! Chevy Stevens! I just took some selfies with the dog filters on. I love using the dog filters because of the big tounge, it shows that I need to lick pussy. Besides my spirit animal is the wolf dog (German Shepard). I believe in Wicca and shamanism as that they help relieve my PTSD. I have to say that my religion is Wicca. I am a white witch. And I also believe in Native American shamanis. With way the dog filters are epic and I love it.
10:21 a.m Went to the library can got my Chevy Stevens book. Yay!!!!! 👍🏼😀🤗😊I am looking forward to bed time so I can read the fucking book. God I love Chevy Stevens and her writing, story lines and the plot. Some people think she is scary but i don't😡. Once I found the book I explored the rest of the library (the teen section in particular) and found some cute and nice Korean manga, if you want to call them that, but I am committed to Chevy Stevens books right now😍. After seeing those mangas I think I will broaden my book horizon and give mangas another chance. I used to like graphic novels and comic books when I was in high school. 😋But then I hit twenty years of age and forgotten all about them. Time to go do memory Lane next time I at the library. 🤔
11:00 a.m. We did scrap booking. A boring task to deal with. But I just found out that I was anorexic skinny as a child. No fucking reason the others picked on me besides for my ptsd. If change my diet I would not want to that skinny again. I want to fucking muscle. That was a memory that I think should’ve not be brought back up. It’s fucking embarrassing. The skinny geek with ptsd. Ouch. Thank god I don’t have to show those pictures on my fucking Facebook. I would be a laughing stock of the world. Scrap booking is fun in a boring and embarrassing way.
12:00 p.m Lunch!! Pizza!!! YYYYYUUUUUUMMMYYYY! 👅 My pizza all feta cheese. God fuck, I love my feta cheese on my pizza. We made our own pizzas for us to eat. Time to go. Food!!! Coming!!!!!!
1:00 p.m Me and my friends helped Jill’s husband Greg to clean the pool equipment. It’s almost surreal, why the fuck not getting the pool ready for us. I oversaw the hosing of the pool stairs and weights. I got my pants fucking soked. That was when I decided to call it quits but I did do quite a bit of hosing of the stairs and the pool weights. It was nice outside and I was wearing a hat… but the dear flies, black flies and the mosquitoes where horrid. So the hat did not work worth a shit. So I used my hat for swatting the bugs a way. I was scared of ticks that one might bite me. They are supposed to terrible this summer. Was going to play cards outside… but fuck that: ticks.
2:00 p.m Played a boring came of crazy 8s. I was sooooo bored I was stoned. I am naturally stoned, no need for drugs. This only happens when I am bored. Jill thought I was falling asleep during the game and ordered me to lay down for the rest of the day. So I was lying on the couch looking like a fucking fool all day until home time. This is the roughest afternoon I had ever had. It’s doesn’t help that I had a ptsd flashback and a flack back of a distant past life where I was a Buddhist nun living in the Himalayas….. twice at the same time. I was in a trance…. not sleepy. When will be get it…. I AM WICCAN, BITCHES!!!!!!! A WHITE MOTHERFUCKING WITCH!!!!!
3:00 p.m Found out that Caitlin blabbed on my again for no reason just to get me into trouble. She does this all the time and it’s a wonder that I haven’t been kicked of program for fucking reason. Apparently I said “why do you have to clean the damn kitchen”. She does this to me all the fucking time. And I wish she would stop getting me in trouble before I punch her lights out. What I fucked up way to end the fucking day. And it was such good day too. Fuck!!!!!😠👿😡😤🤢
4:30 p.m Just got the call of a fucking life time. Tomorrow I am going aboriginal day in Ottawa. Soooo fucking hyper right now. 😊🤗🤔👍🏼😍✈️

G33k HQ Presents: MC Front-A-Lot Interview
Interview Questions From G33K-HQ & Darealwordsound (Wordy): Nerdcore Interview Collaboration Questions
MC Front: Thank you for bearing with me! So sorry to continually drop the ball on this. Here you go.
Wordy: What was your first creative outlet? MC Front: I seem to remember kindergarten involving a lot of drawing. First and second grade had poetry exercises sometimes. But the way we played D&D between 2nd and 6th grades was how my imagination really got fired up. We didn\'t like dice and maps that much. We\'d take turns DMing and just sort of freestyle the stories to each other at recess. Wordy:  What was the first rap album you ever purchased? MC Front: It was also my first CD. DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, He\'s the DJ, I\'m the Rapper. Wordy: Who are your biggest music inspirations?
MC Front: Tom Waits, Public Enemy, Bjork
Wordy: Describe your studio to us.
MC Front: I have an Ikea desk that\'s been out of print for 10 years so I get fussy when anyone leans on it. Creaky, cheap old thing. It\'s the only one where you can bolt the rotating side shelves at any height. Perfect for the near-field monitors and re-aiming them for any version of the stereo field. I mix there in my bedroom which isn\'t treated, but I\'ve been in there so long that I can work around most of the room effects. I have a coat closet fully treated, very dead and dry, for vocals. I keep some buttons in there to engineer myself, but everything\'s still happening on the studio computer. My pre-amp and mics and monitors are satisfactory. I could use a better ADC/DAC.
I will record occasional hand percussion, etc, in that closet booth, but very little fits in there. For other acoustic capture, I\'ll rent time at a real studio (any time I\'m tracking my drummers) or I\'ll go field-record strings at someone\'s apartment.
A solid two thirds of the non-vocal sound on the albums is electronic, and I can get keyboard performances or work on drum machine material in the project studio without worrying about the ambient noises of Brooklyn.
Wordy: Describe your ideal home studio if money wasn\'t a problem.
MC Front: A proper treatment of the mixing room would be great. I guess I\'d have twenty of these Avalon pre-amps and a little drum room, as well as a booth big enough for upright bass or cello. There is almost unlimited fanciness available in the hardware market... I guess I\'d have to make a hobby out of shopping. I\'d still use Reaper as my DAW, though -- the least expensive version of that kind of software, and also the best. I could probably spend sixty grand on plugins.
Wordy: What is your creative process for writing and or producing a song?
MC Front: Baddd Spellah, my Canadian beatsmithing partner, has been kind enough to work on grooves with me for the last fifteen years. Usually I will start with something he\'s been kicking around, or he\'ll take a pass at some live drum that I\'ve been chopping up, and we\'ll add keyboard material from Gm7 (Gaby Alter), my longtime music co-writer. When there is a verse-appropriate groove that is in pretty good shape, I\'ll leave it on loop and write. Once in a while, I\'ll write a hook over a groove that feels like a chorus, and start from there. After I\'ve got most of a lyric, I\'ll put down a scratch vocal so that Spellah and I can build a full song arrangement. Then I\'ll record too many takes of the final vocal, and spend too many months dicking around with the comp, the mix, and all the instrumental details. Finally I\'ll listen to it on as many different devices as I can, fine-tune the mix, and stay up for a week and a half making increasingly bad decisions about everything on the album, leading up to the mastering appointment I foolishly committed to several months prior.
Wordy: What is your happiest On-Stage Moment?
MC Front: I think a PAX crowd demanded a second encore once. That makes you feel like a superstar.
Wordy: What was your favorite song to write or record?
MC Front: Maybe Stoop Sale? But that might be because the video came out so well. For the most part, my happiness with the process relies entirely on the result: it makes me happy to listen to a track if I don\'t just hear a barrage of fuckups that it\'s too late to go back and fix. But there aren\'t very many of those. Of all my lyrics, I\'m probably proudest of Two Dreamers from the Question Bedtime album. I feel like I worked out every bit of the story and then obscured it just enough that the listener\'s careful attention is rewarded.
Wordy: What advice do you have for aspiring artists?
MC Front: Practice a lot, develop your talent. Get the skills you need to properly communicate with whoever your creative partners are. Take the craft seriously but give yourself a break for not having mastered it -- that is a lifelong process with no actual end goal.
Wordy: What project do you feel best describes you as an artist?
MC Front: The Nerdcore Rising documentary probably says more about me and the band than I\'d ever be able to, and in kinder words. Of my own projects, I like the Zero Day and Solved albums as a window into whatever it is I\'m trying to say about nerdcore.
Wordy: How do you feel about the disconnect between \"Nerdcore\" and \"HipHop\"?
MC Front: Well, hip-hop is a cultural movement with very specific origins and elements. Rap is a formal music style that emerged from hip-hop. Any \'variation\' or \'new perspective\' that someone brings to rap is fine -- if meaningless. It might matter that you came up with a new thing to say, but the fact that you chose an unusual form for your expression should be the least interesting thing about it. You can write a march for your peace movement, even if marches come from military music, because the march itself is just a formal style of composition. You\'d be smart to note the ironic relationship there, or you\'d be dumb to suggest that there isn\'t one, or that your choice to use a march as an expression of pacifism somehow reaches backward and affects the origin of the form. Anyone who thinks they\'re \'expanding\' or \'liberating\' hip-hop from its roots by rapping about things that haven\'t been rapped about traditionally is probably an idiot.
My idea about hip-hop was only to observe that it was cool. Like, it was the coolest thing happening in American culture when I was a kid, and it probably still is. Breakdancers were the coolest kids on the playground. Graffiti kids were the coolest outlaws in fourth grade. And rappers were the coolest possible composers of verse.
To want to compose and perform verse in that formal style without having any direct connection to hip-hop, and without being cool, is the sort of desire nerd kids might express by themselves, away from arbiters of hipness, and share only with other uncool kids. The idea of nerdcore went no deeper than that, originally. I\'m glad that a lot of other DIY rappers have found that resonant enough to expand upon.
Wordy: Do you feel more \"Nerdcore\" rappers should know about its roots in \"HipHop\"?
MC Front: Definitely. I remember trying to write a Villanelle in a college poetry class. First, we had to read and dissect a sheaf of them. The professor was of the opinion that we would all flounder in the assignment, because there had been only a handful of good Villanelles ever written. I\'m sure none of us wrote one of lasting value. The point was to learn how formal composition connects works, and to appreciate the complications. You can always just do it anyway. But knowing where it comes from and how it\'s been attempted before teaches you how to try to do it well. I think anyone who wants to compose lyrics within the rap genre should know all they can about how raps have been composed so far.
That doesn\'t even begin to address the cultural issue. Some artists misidentify nerdcore as comedy music, and worse yet, think the joke is \"it\'s rap, but white kids are doing it.\" I think that outlook leads to the weakest possible songs, and is generally disrespectful of hip-hop in a way that concerns me and offends anyone who cares about American culture. Of course, not all of the nerdcore rappers are white, but all of the schticky ones are. I wonder if a delve into hip-hop\'s history would cure them of that impulse, or at least afford them the humility to hush it up.
Wordy: Are you involved in any philanthropy in your local communities or abroad?
MC Front: I try to do something in support of Child\'s Play every year. I\'m going to contribute to the upcoming Worldbuilders album project.
Wordy: Can you freestyle? Meaning rap off the top of the head? If so, can we see you drop a few bars next time live?
MC Front: I never do this! I think I\'ve conditioned myself into a certain kind of vanity. Almost everything on the albums is rapped in complete sentences, with rhymes that I\'ve never used previously. Freestyling doesn\'t work that way. I\'m too ashamed to let anyone see me freestyling about the frog, on a log, in a bog, who got sog-gy.
Wordy: Do you consider yourself a “GEEK”?
  MC Front: Of course.
Wordy: In your own words, describe what the word “GEEK” means to you?
MC Front: I decided at some point a long time ago that geeks are all direct descendants of the side-show geek, whose job was biting heads off of chickens. They weren\'t special in any way, except that they were willing and able to do that thing, and it was a fairly extreme thing to do. But because nobody else at the carnival was willing to go to that extreme, the geekery came to seem like a highly specialized skill.
That\'s why you can be a geek about anything. You just need a topic where your knowledge or expertise is so specialized that it seems distastefully extreme to non-geeks. You can geek out about fantasy novels or about robot AIs. But you can also geek out about car engines or cooking. You don\'t have to be a nerd to geek out.
Nerds are almost always geeks, and their subjects of geekery are often recognizably nerdy. But a nerd is something else, a person who was already too weird or too smart, and felt alienated, and embraced geekery as an alternative to whatever broader pursuits the cool kids enjoyed.
Wordy: What is your earliest geek memory?
MC Front: I was a Star Wars geek starting at age three and a half when the first one came out. It was the only thing I wanted to do. I made adults take me to see it 11 times before Empire came out (I kept careful count). I collected the Kenner figures obsessively until they stopped making new ones a year or two after Jedi.
Wordy: What is your \"Geek\" hobby? Do you collect comic books? Anime? Video games?
MC Front: I do still love comics, but I own too many. Video games take up less space. I spend more time gaming than I do working on music, occasionally 70 or 80 hours in a week. It\'s as much an emotional self-medication as it is a hobby.
Wordy: Who are your Top 5 emcees dead or alive?
MC Front: In no order: Busdriver, MF Doom, Del, Q-Tip, Chuck D
Wordy: When is your next show or tour?
MC Front: When I get the dang old album done! Maybe spring 2017 for tour. PAX South is the soonest lone show.
Wordy: Do you have a new album coming out?
MC Front: It\'s called INTERNET SUCKS, and it is going to have a heavy \'get off my lawn\' vibe. Everyone will be mad at me, yet secretly agree with every word on the record. Watch for it to take your feeds by storm.
