Every once in a blue moon, I get haunted by this drama, one I watched more than 25 years ago. 🧐🤔
The main female character is unforgettable, and the psychopathic villain (all the red flags 🚩🚩🚩) is fascinating too. But I wonder what made this show memorable despite not being the type of storylines I enjoy.
(I have a few favourites from this era which don’t surface much in my consciousness. There is only one show from this period which I rewatch once every decade, but the reasons for that is clear to me).
Now that it is available on YouTube, maybe a rewatch (skimming) is in order to clarify on the whys.
#TVB drama#cantonese drama#now that I have rewatched a few of the episodes I realised what haunted me about this show#the pervasive misogyny and sexism#the sympathy extended to the villain which I thought undeserved#yes he had a sympathetic backstory but sorry he IS NOT AT ALL sympathetic to me#he is a psychopath who clearly knew what he was doing#we give too much leeway to MEN (fictional and real ones)#and they don’t deserve it#not after what they did#I don’t care what is their backstory#just another lousy excuse to let them wriggle out of their wrongdoings#it is funny because I was just rereading my own Mo Tae Gu fics#another demented/violent male character given a lot of excuses#and the memory of this TVB drama resurfaced#weird how the mind works#I ship MTG with a favourite female character in AUs#but I don’t have much empathy for MTG though sympathetic to the reasons for his being (in canon)#but OMFG#these male characters (and corresponding RL ones) deserve every bad thing which come their way#his mother IS NOT to blame HE IS#AMBITION#孽吻#Amy Kwok#Gallen Lo#Leung Siu Bing#Michael Tao Dai Yu#thriller/crime#‘romance’

Okay someone who knows more about dnd than I do help me sort out princess tutu rpg classes. My thoughts so far:
Tbh I could see Duck as either a bard or a cleric. Bard for nonviolent approaches to conflict and a dance focus. That said I could totally see her as a cleric, she’d make a natural fit as the healer of the party and princess tutu could be her deity.
Ok so Fakir has to multiclass in like the most inefficient way right? Starts as a low hp high dps melee fighter and eventually makes the transition to a magic user class (warlock perhaps?? Wizard of some sort?). It’s kind of funny to imagine him as guy who desperately needs a high wis/int but keeps dumping all his stats into strength out of sheer stubbornness. I mean he doesn’t HAVE to switch classes but I think it makes the most sense, he starts in a class that he’s really not suited for and has to transition to what’s best for him even if he’s not happy about it.
Mytho is a natural fit for a paladin tank (though I’d listen to an argument for cleric). He’s throwing himself in the way to protect all the members of the party with no regards to his own safety. Probably dies a lot.
Rue I’m most undecided on. I could see her as a magic using class like Druid (preferred form is a crow) or warlock (makes a pact with the Raven) or even a bard who uses her persuasion to start drama. In a totally different direction, I could also see her as a rogue just to balance out the party; she’s clever, resourceful, nimble, etc.

after these leaks i just genuinely think megumi has depression like not even in a “wow haha he always pulls out mahoraga!” way but in an Oh my god his WHOLE LIFE has been in shambles since he was like 8 and i think he is like forever messed up

Since Kojima’s been saying that the Death Stranding film is going to tell a story that can only be told through the film medium, I really hope it’s a prequel to the game. There are a lot of background events represented through text and dialogue that wouldn’t translate well to a video game format on their own.
It’d be really cool to see the start of the Stranding, Victor and Igor’s backstory (as seen in the DS novelization), snippets from Sam’s childhood/early years with Bridges, the development and construction of the chiral network, and most of the events described in Higgs’ journals.
Coffin’s decision to leave her family behind, start a terrorist uprising by radicalizing the porters who unknowingly abetted human sacrifices by delivering BBs for the chiral network, and the decision to adopt Higgs as her protégé? That story alone would be worthy of a film.
#just thoughts#i would kill to see little baby Peter#and witness his Becoming™️ from that scared kid into the man we know and love#i know that ‘new world with a new sky’ moment would be POWERFUL#and what of his porter partner who died? what did that relationship look like? how close were they?#what of his relationship with Fragile after Coffin died? having a best friend who probably never saw his face?#not to mention his tragic rise to power and the secrecy that came with it. having to kill to maintain his DOOMS because people needed him#like he was handpicked as the inheritor of a rebellion against Bridges/the UCA and suddenly ended up with a LOT of responsibility when-#-Coffin died. and suddenly he was living a double life to care for and protect the people of the Western region#and those folks responded by calling him King Midas. naming him after a folk hero whose defining tragedy is being powerful but alone#everything he touched turn to gold but it’s so hard to form connections when you can’t shake hands#(sorry not sorry lol)#it’s such a complicated and nuanced backstory & so many people don’t even know about it because it’s in hard-to-reach texts & a side quest#idk I just think it’d make a really good movie. bonus points if it canonized him being a repatriate#it’d make a really good sci-fi political thriller/horror#i would vaporize in my seat if it cold opened with higgs saying 'once there was an explosion...' but now i'm just being self-indulgent#death stranding#death stranding movie#death stranding a24#higgs monaghan#logan.txt

Really need everyone who cares to stop with the conspiracy theory that Eddie the cop is Ralph Wiggum’s real dad and jump on my inexplicable assumption from day one that he’s the brother of one of the parents and Ralph just takes after his uncle.

So like I know the scene with Astarion where he reveals he’s a vampire and bites you is supposed to be hot and all. But my Tav just looked like he was dissociating the entire time and incredibly uncomfortable. Like he was instantly regretting his choice to let it happen but was like “well I mean I already said yes so what can I do?” I feel kinda bad for him not gonna lie.

The mcu fandom’s fav pastime now is arguing about whether Wanda or Loki would win in a 1v1 fight, but we’re not ready to admit that they essentially have the exact same powers.
Mind control, reality manipulation, telekinesis. They’re even both ‘destined’ to sit on a multiversal throne, I mean come on guys.

Started thinking about Kingdom Hearts character classpects and now that KH3 has given Sora a new aspect to fill I have honestly never had characters slot so cleanly into unique classes and aspects before. Enjoy my self indulgent mental experiment:
Sora - Rogue of Time (one who steals from time for the benefit of others)
Kairi - Muse of Space (one whose agency is denied but inspires the actions of others)
Riku - Seer of Life (one who benefits themselves with knowledge of life and uses it to guide)
Roxas - Heir of Heart (heir of identity/self/soul)
Xion - Sylph of Doom (one who heals for others through death/fate/doom)
Naminé- Thief of Mind (one who steals mind/thoughts/consequence)
Axel - Page of Blood (one who creates bonds/provides others with bonds and serves the bonds created)
