Hasn’t that always been the case?
Ballister is no stranger to living life on the edge. Even before their death, all it took was one accident, one mistake to tank the savings his parents spent months building up. Their community was not much better either. Funds saved up to improve infrastructure, the community center, the mosque could disappear without any warning.
And then one accident, one accident was all it took to take his parents and then his home.
And still, he dreamed, dreamed of standing at the side of the Kingdom as a hero of the realm.
Even when the queen inducted him as a squire, he could never find better footing. He knew; one mistake, that’s all he needed if he wanted to be put back in the streets. And yet that dream, his dream never strayed far. Stayed so close to him every time he reached for it, he could feel it, like silk, between his fingers before it to slipped away.
He thought being with Ambrosius would have been like that too. At first, it was a pipe dream- being friends with the descendent of Gloreth, herself? Impossible. Ambrosius falling in love with him? Gloreth’s descendent wouldn't do that. Dating and building a life with Ambrosius? A life that both Ambrosius and the Kingdom would approve of?
Only a fool would dream to do so.
And yet.
And yet, it had all been in Ballister’s hand, once upon a time. So close, sometimes Ballister’s phantom arm twitches at the thought of it. Silk, golden white like Ambrosius’ hair resting between his fingers. Sometimes Ballister doesn’t dare to move his arm in those moments because what if it still was all possible? Maybe if he’s careful enough, this time, it won’t slip away-
He’s only deluding himself. The world isn’t meant to be draped in sheets of white silk and Ballister doesn’t believe it’s all gray or varying shades of black either. It doesn’t have to be- Nimona taught him that- that splash of PINK on an otherwise pristine canvas.
Why should he have to keep chasing a future, a dream that keeps running away when he catches up?
He won’t do it anymore. He can’t, even if it’s Ambrosius who beckons him to come back. He won't trade a clad of black armor sprinkled with specks of pink for the pristine white and gold banner one he longed to wave once upon a time.
The day Ballister left the Kingdom, three years ago, he set aside that dream. Broke it in two alongside the life he once shared with Ambrosius. No more. No more.

Now there’s only them, surrounded by the ruckus. And Nimona, in the back, picking off Ambrosius’ backup with generous strokes of her claws.
“Don’t say that, Ambrosius. You- you of all people don’t get to say that to me,” Ballister says, finally. The sword held by his mechanical arm feels heavy as he points it at his beloved enemy. “Don’t make this any harder than it has to be.”

I have been on semi-haitus bc I recently got diagnosed with hypertension (at 24!!!! what da fuck!) so I've been trying to reduce some stress in my life while also trying to like figure out what I need to change diet/lifestyle wise and get all the testing done that I need to get done and figure out medication w my Dr. it's been kind of a lot

And as soon as Enji has brought you to the Todoroki estate, your're running (or waddling) inside, immeadiately engulfed by your mother who will now proceed to coddle you and fret over you non stop for the next couple of days (spoon feeding you her food, brushing your hair until you dose off, rubbing your baby bump while humming lullabies. Enji's having the best time too becuase he gets to tuck you in at night and wake u in the morning and have more daddy-daughter ice cream dates with yall) until she's better or... well, your husbands comes to fetch you.

Me, I want to talk about breeding old men! (I feel you, I've had surgery a few days ago and I'm scheduled for another one tmrw, I'm in pain.)
How many kids do you think Sirius can convince Remus to have until he says enough ?
Also, how is Sirius dealing with their first born litter? All the crying? Sleepless nights?
Hahahahaha I love that you and @strugglequill came to me with similar questions. And I am so sorry about your surgeries! That kind of pain is no fun, sending you healing thoughts.
I do think that Wolfstar would have fewer babies than Prongsfoot would, simply because Sirius has to be conscious of Remus's health. Although now that I say that, does Remus have multiples at once (a whole litter!) while James would not? Hm.
I think Remus puts up with being pregnant three times before he says enough is enough. He probably has anywhere from 2-4 kids per litter.
Sirius handles it well! The man was born to be a dad. He makes sure that Remus doesn't have to lift a finger - after all, he was the one who was pregnant, and he's nursing. Sirius takes care of everything else around the house and everything else to do with the babies.
They also have a whole village to help them! Harry, Ron, Hermione, Teddy, Andromeda, all the Weasleys, everyone rallies around Sirius, Remus, and their werepuppies. <3

Chapter 5: Wild Crying Bullet
Three? I thought there were... hmmm... *goes back to check* Ok, so:
- Monev the Gale (1) and E.G. Mine (2) went down before they made it to Jenora Rock.
- Dominique the Cyclops (3) went down right before Fifth Moon.
- After Fifth Moon, they ran into Rai-Dai (4), then Leonov the Puppetmaster (5) and Gray the Ninelives (6).
- Then we have Zazie the Beast (7), Midvalley the Hornfreak (8), and Hoppered the Gauntlet (9) here right now.
- And we have Wolfwood (10).
That means we're missing two out of the 12. So there's a good chance that either Wolfwood doesn't know about the other two, or they were brought in after Wolfwood was sent out. Wolfwood's not an idiot, but it's not like he was privy to Livio's conversation with Vash about there being 12 coins. I suppose one could assume Livio and Knives are the last of those 12, but the way the coins are presented implies both those two are exempt from Gung-Ho Gun status. Also, those who've watched Stampede might be able to take a guess at who we're missing.
Oooof, Midvalley's gonna be a rough fight.
Hoppered might be a bullet, but Vash is a gun. Hehehehehehhhh...

out of curiosity, any opinions/headcanons about martina x yomi x zilch? the jp fandom on twitter really made me love them as an evil polycule (and i still love that one picture you drew of them haha)
I.love.love.love.love.love.it.so.much. I can die for their evil polycule.
If I had to express my opinions on them, I think their relationship is like putting knives, gems, flowers, books, and ink into a washing machine and pressing the button. Scare anyone who witnesses it because everyone knows the future won't be a good thing. They make themselves worse and everything explodes.
Just based on the game, I feel quite sad that they don't have direct interaction but I also understand because hitman Zil's work must be secret. Oh and also because Yomi is an asshole who wouldn't mention his lover's name if they were dead </3
Zil and Martina truly love Yomi. Zil loves Yomi because he can accept his destructive nature and Martina loves Yomi because he shows her love and makes her feel special. Both of them are pathetically falling deep in love.
Yomi wouldn't love someone else because he only sees love as a tool to control, but I like toxic relationships so this isn't a problem to stop me from headcanon the scene of them living together hahahahaha
Headcanon: Zil and Martina will compete to see who understands the director better and shake hands after every meeting about Yomi (which they organize themselves to exchange information and pictures).
Since Zil is an advisor, he requires a great deal of detailed information about Yomi to provide advice, and Martina is familiar with Yomi's schedule, habits, and diet -> she is an excellent choice to speak with. As for Martina, she is a photo collector, but with her heavy workload she cannot bring a camera and take photos of Yomi publicly, so her photos all come from Zil.
They give off such a mature atmosphere that I don't think they will be jealous of each other.
Another headcanon (slightly nsfw):
Zil and Martina like to bite Yomi. I like that Yomi's strength is much weaker than both of his lovers, so he can't hurt them very much. At the same time, since Yomi really hates pain (well, he likes to torture people, but when there is a possibility of being beaten, he runs away), so they usually end up leaving only a few bite marks.
Although Yomi likes to show off his love in public, he doesn't have much sexual desire, nor does he like kissing others. His love language is compliments and loving looks at him. (I noticed that he likes to stand behind Martina or stand with his back to her when saying love, plus both Zil and Martina wear glasses, so I headcanon he pays attention to other people's eyes)
Martina's love language is physical touch, hug, touch, and bite, including sitting on her (<- she does love it). She feels happy when he shows her love, even when she is beaten she sees it as a form of love.
Zil's love language is the smell of blood. He lives by pretending to be someone else, he doesn't have anything too specific besides desire for destruction. Killing for Yomi and having sex with Yomi are his barest and most natural behaviors of love; They all involve blood since they are all violent activities.
My platonic-loving self made it impossible for my romantic-loving self to compare who would have more sexual desire so I was like "Yomi is the type that accidentally turns the other two on", problem solved. End.

this is likely going to be my last hakuoki translation for the year. next month i mostly plan to focus on subtitling, getting a start on filling up my queue with yuugiroku content, and hopefully catching up to the deemo manga raws...

I know he’s popular, but i rank sannan below souji and heisuke... and as i’ve still yet to watch okita-hen (most i’ve seen is certain clips) and toudou-hen, i don’t know if i’ll be interested in watching sannan’s route.
in my defence, i did saito’s route first (sannan betraying the Shinsengumi and I don’t like traitors), harada’s second (sannan being creepy because of him wanting chizuru’s blood), and then hijikata’s route (i rarely do the ‘official route’ first). lol. i can’t help that i don’t like him. hahahahaha. suppose this just means i’m more likely to look at getting live 3.
