On either side [sc. of the door] there were golden and silver dogs, immortal and unaging forever, which Hephaestus had fashioned with cunning skill to protect the home of Alcinous the great-hearted. (Od. 7.91-94)
Eustathius goes on to suggest that the adjectives 'undying' and 'un-aging' refer not literally to biological life, but rather to the durability of the rust-proof metals from which they were fashioned, and that the dogs were alleged to be the work of Hephaestus solely on account of their excellent workmanship. He does, however, imply that he knows of other testimonia to these hounds when he refers to a certain "silly story" that they were a present from Hera to Poseidon for his help in some attack against Zeus in the Iliad (probably that described at 1.396-406), and that Poseidon gave them in turn to Alcinous. - Hephaestus the Magician and Near Eastern Parallels for Alcinous' Watchdogs by Christopher A. Faraone
Love the idea that after their failed coup against Zeus, Hera is just like: "Oh well, we'll get 'em next time, here are some dope magical robot dogs my son made, just a little something to express my appreciation for helping me try and upturn the order of the cosmos, thanks bro!"

“If I gotta to drop another infant from a wall in an instance so we all don’t die. Then I’ll become the monster!”
He never wanted to drop the infant in the first place, he didn’t go to war and spend all his time trying to save Helen. He went to war to spend all those years trying to get home, all he cared about was his home! He didn’t want to hurt all the people he just wanted the war to end so he could go home! He is willing to repeat parts of the war to get home, something that he would have never done, being in the underworld literally changed his whole being!

alright so THE UNDERWORLD SAGA
I was expecting none of the songs to sound as badass as they sound. I thought this would be one of the quietest sagas, as in the songs would be more focused on introspection and stuff like that. But boy was I wrong
Like, the songs are like that and MORE. Specially No Longer You, which is such an unexpected banger for me. My favorite is Monster obviously, which made me realize that in all sagas the last songs are my favorites. So as I said in another post, Monster will be the animatic I'll be working on for now.
In Monster I'll present a little someone that appeared briefly in my Just a Man animatic last year. This shadow figure in the mirror
Tumblr media
This is how I envision the "Monster", this dark reflection of Odysseus. When I did this part of the animatic I was already planning on bringing this figure back for when the underworld saga come out. YEAH THIS IS A YEAR LONG SET UP THAT I WAS WAITING PATIENTLY TO PAY OFF.
So my animatic of Monster is probably going to be my personal favorite. I have a lot of cool ideas planned, complicated shots that I still have no idea how I'll pull off and delicious, juicy angst

As punishment for his cruel rejection of the nymph Echo, Nemesis cursed Narcissus to fall in love with his own reflection in a pool of water. Unable to take his eyes away from the beautiful youth he did not recognise as himself, Narcissus stayed by the side of the water until he wasted away.
I’ve been wanting to draw more mythology pieces for a while now! Here is my interpretation of Echo and Narcissus, a Roman myth from Ovid's Metamorphoses.
