what if movie director!reader.. yknow how some directors have like one or two actors that appear in every single of their movies? yeah thats reader with actor!stone and actor!kali

maybe progressively the movies strayed from being those epic thrillers with guns and gore galore and turned into more aesthetic, romance-y feeling ones.

something something reader mentioning in an interview that their work genre shifted because of those 2, and how much happier hes just gotten w them, and it just happened to reflect into their works.

... something something director!reader also starring in his own movie once. idk maybe it takes place in like a gay bar or whatever, and its the 3 of them as like extras for that scene, pure heart-eyes on camera for like only 5 seconds. straight up looks like a fancam, and the scene is primed and ready for those pink and heart themed edits people make

something something theres a one-off scene of the three of them getting in a car, also in the bg, being all over each other. just small scenes like that. things you *have* to pay attention to to even notice, even on repeat viewings

maybe in the credits its listed as: kali as: [x character] and himself stone as: [x character] and himself reader as: himself

maybe the whole movie was made as an excuse to announce their relationship and undying love, but its subtle. but the fans probably figured it all out the first time they appeared on screen together

The fans totally figure it out before the media does. The media takes forever to figure out that you, Actor!Stone, and Actor!Kali are in a relationship. The fans love making edits of you three using the movie scenes.

Some hardcore action fans hated the movie because they sat down expecting it to be action-packed only for it to turn romantic at the end, but those fans are few. Overall, mostly everyone loved the movie.

It gets nominated for an Oscar.

After a week of playing new Paladin on the new content I can confidently say my veredict.

It’s bad, and boring.

I haven’t been around for long to exactly know about the bigger issues but I still had fun with the combos and having to keep goring blade up kept me on my toes, it really helped me get into a rotation for high end content for the very first time.

The new paladin made the rotation more simple and straight forward? yes, absolutely. But it also made it more boring, your burst phase is the confiteor combo now and the big flourish it had it is now gone for me, spaming holy spirit was the prelude for the great finish that it was confiteor and the blade combo but now it has lost a lot of that due to requiescat being better used for the very same combo. Goring blade being a plain boring ogcd is bad and the impact is gone because it’s no more DOT, and outside your burst phase you just do 1-2-3 then atonements then holy spirit. You could argue it’s a pretty standard combo and yes it is but then you have the animations which they have no impact at all.

With warrior (my new job to go for savage content) you have the same damage button in upheaval but damn it looks big and explosive, also you pepper your 1-2-3 with some fell cleaves here and there, and you tell me which one feels more heavy on impact: fell cleave or holy spirit.

Also warrior has mitigations galore, bloodwhetting and shake it off are just insane, with paladin they basically divided shelltron into two skills for its own detriment: shelltron now gives you reduced damage and that’s great but your shield is now just there for decoration, bulwark just fucking sucks let’s be honest, 90 second cd for increased -chance- of blocking damage and without the added benefits of shelltron which is the regen, you can’t use only that for blocking damage, you have to mix it up with another mitigation which will probably be shelltron, making you press two buttons when it was only one before, and the 90 second window is not worth the defense it brings.

Divine veil doesn’t have the heal requirement now and it would have been nice but then they buffed shake it off, lmao. Also I haven’t checked but even with the buff to fight or flight and the alleged “buff” to goring blade and the addition of divine might I think paladin is still the lowest damage dealing tank. It still has clemency and passage of arms and personally I think they can do more with it but well shit it is what it is, I will still use it sometimes for normal content because Knight Aesthetic is eternal but high end content will be warrior exclusive.

Also shield bash still exists.

Hussar — All-Consuming Hunger (I, Voidhanger)

All-Consuming Hunger by HUSSAR

One of the best songs on All-Consuming Hunger, the first LP from Toronto-based death metal band Hussar, is called “Blind Charge into Gunfire.” Put that together with the band’s name, and you’ll have some idea of what’s going on here: pummeling riffs galore that thunder along behind Vadim Balanyuk’s gruff, growling vocals, intoning stuff like, “Now the barrage draws near / Laying waste to all in its path / Bodies embrace barbed wire / Children forced to taste the bile of the earth.” It sure puts the death in death metal. Some of us have little patience for metal bands that superficially celebrate war, no matter how good the riffs are — and Hussar’s riff-craft is very, very good. Good enough that you may hang around some, and that’s good, too. Hussar isn’t some vapid war metal outfit, frothing over carnage and calamity. They’re a curious variety of political band, intent on comparing 19th-century battles of European empire to our own contemporary conjuncture. All-Consuming Hunger is a bloody-minded record, but it’s full of potent songs driven by outrage over war’s costs.

You might not guess that from the record’s opening song, “Ritual Castration of the Feeble-minded Cowards.” The title sounds like typical death metal posturing. At the song’s outset, Balanyuk issues unpleasantly prolonged gutturals: “Fiiilllllllllllth / Suuuuuuuffffffferrrrr……” And so on. The band’s nigh-unto-caveman simplicity (all riffs, all the time) is complicated by the song’s stop-start arrangement, which has a sort of subtlety. But the principal affects are knuckle-dragging force and aggressivity. It’s not until the second verse of “Blind Charge into the Gunfire” that a less rapacious and gore-soaked sensibility is suggested: “Forward we go / Such a waste / How could they think this would work? / We do as they plead / Our fate in their claws.” The images conjure later 19th-century conflicts, in which traditional tactics of warfare were outstripped by industrial advances in killing machinery, resulting in awful slaughter. In any case, throughout much of All-Consuming Hunger, Hussar evinces contempt for command structures and the political forces that send people to their doom.

Strong sentiments, and there is little to argue with in Hussar’s music, which is exciting, robust and replete with downhill momentum. But in spite of those strident gestures, there are ambiguities and ambivalences here. The Hussar was a strongly aestheticized figure, symbolizing swagger and gallantry, a romanticization of warfare and its traditional codes of masculinity. It’s an odd image to assert if one wants to critique military culture and distorted perceptions of the experience of battle. Given those contradictions, it may be at least a little unfortunate that the most effective track on All-Consuming Hunger is called “Dissonant Weeping of a Thousand Widows.”

Of course, aestheticized violence and intense excitement produced by a violent aesthetic are sort of what death metal is all about. The subgenre’s sharper variances are found in the various content that the violent aesthetic is mobilized to express. Under all the riffing and thumping, Hussar chooses to communicate an objection to war. The band has made a provoking and powerful record, on which the dynamics among form, concept and experience are especially complicated. Sounds like good art to me.

Imagine a world where vampires make up at least half of the population and growing. Society has adapted, for the most part there is peace but things have changed. The new world order is primarily made of the undead and most governmental functions are as well.

Because of this, humans have met their match and are no longer at the top of the food-chain. Naturally, they've lost rights, they've lost a lot of the protection that they had from one another and their rules have been made for them. While the majority of vampires take pity on humans, think of them as children that will never get a chance to learn and many as a vital part of their own existence.

Their lives are not valued as they once were with such severity. Slavery is legal, murder is all but decriminalized between species and while humans are vital, they're easy enough to reproduce and farm. Even if they have no idea that it's being done, their population is kept up by vampire influence and the new 'Law'.

Gory crimes become normal. Loss becomes normal, fear, terror, insecurity becomes normal for human life. And while millions of vampires are kind-hearted citizens like their lesser counterpart, it doesn't take many to send a sense of unease and panic into their 'sister' species as a whole.

But now imagine what 'normal' vampire things would look like, mashed into society and accepted broadly as the new era of life. Fully capable of wiping humans out entirely but smart enough to know that they can't take out their own food supply or over-populate with their kind.

You'd be walking down the street one day and look into a window and see...

...Someone being bitten in public or someone desperately screaming for help as another person drug them off into an alley and drained them dry. People would lose their touch for each other and lose connection with the kindness and concern they'd once share. They would turn silent, uncurious; head down, eyes up.

But surely there's a better way to distribute blood and not have to just randomly terrorize a stranger, right? Something quicker, easier and with a lot less mess.

It only made sense to keep the function of corporate industry alive with some steadfast business. Vampires needed fast food too.

In comes the different versions of vampire cafes or 'blood bins'. Humans are farmed (locally usually) or in shady local businesses, kidnapped to be held for public use. Disease is without worry but what is of good concern is health and how long they can manage to process a human until they're no longer viable.

They want strong, healthy humans that can yield and regenerate fast. So they're fed strict doses of vitamins and mineral packed slop, that stays down no matter what emotional or physical turmoil they suffer. Some keep them high and sedated, making sure that it's as 'humane as possible'. High-end franchises will keep their 'stock' in the back and the bolder venues keep them in aesthetically pleasing tubes.

They'll go as far as dressing them nicely and lighting up their display cases with different décor and neon signs. The only sign of anything slightly off with them is a straw-sized tube jutting from their arm. It isn't inflamed or angry, instead it's not phasing through the skin at all like human phlebotomy. It was surgically installed, implanted in a main artery and capped with a medical grade valve-stem. As if they were tires and pressurized.

This hooked them to the automatic dispensing system. Where an attendant could fill a glass by the customers choosing, pressing it under a nozzle and getting an exact measurement. Digital displays would show them how many more they could get out before entering the 'rest' mode and the system would lower them to the basement to be changed out by another employee.

Not every café was the same, though. Many that operated locally or outside large franchise, were torture chambers for humans. They couldn't afford to buy stock in humans and instead, choose to steal them off the streets. The valve operation is definitely out of the picture so it's down to blunt injury or hack-job intravenous experiments. Age is of no concern, young and old alike but better if no one will interfere with their missing persons.

Imagine the despair of not being able to ever get enough strength gathered to escape? Being drugged constantly and weakened by hunger and blood-loss. Constantly being afraid that they'd take too much because it happened all the time around you. The absolute misery you'd endure watching the others suffer and how many various reactions there can be. Taken down to your absolute limit, just to be force-fed vile concoctions and to feel joy from it because at least the gnawing, aching nausea would go away.

Praying you didn't vomit because it was all you were going to get, no matter how wretched it was. Oh and the infection from all the times they'd try to get blood. Wounds would never heal but they'd keep trying and the amount of struggle to keep finding new places would be unbearable. Botched, at home surgeries and operations galore. The fatigue would be awful and most places never closed, seeing as they were serving all kinds with all habits. Day in, day out, until they got worried they'd kill you and have to go to the trouble of kidnapping more and more people. Then they'd put you in a storage room or off somewhere to rest; which usually meant being locked up in a gutted cooler.

How hopeless, how absolutely hopeless you'd feel. How miserable it would be to be a human and live in the risk of being snatched up and tormented for your blood.

On the flipside... To end on a good note.

Imagine the recovery. The survival. How much it would take to earn that persons trust, (or teach them if they're bred in captivity) and how they would have to readapt to interaction again. Remember how to talk depending on how long they've been held captive. How timid they would be, how much they would accept or deny another persons touch. Every time they see themselves bleed, they fall apart into fits of fear and paranoia. If something pokes them they go irate with sobs and gasps of terror, thinking that they're going back to the darkness to be prodded like a science experiment.

When they're given the chance to sleep, it scares them because the loopy feeling before and after makes them feel like they're drugged or anemic again. How dizzy they would be for the first while that they were saved, how many times they could fall into their saviors arms.

Now what if that savior is a vampire themselves?

The added fear, how hard they would have to work to earn the human's trust and dependency. How they would have to watch themselves carefully to try not to do anything domineering or too roughly by accident. Trying extra hard to not move too quickly or be too over-powering when handing or taking things.

-if abo is applicable, she’s the alpha female who’ll become the Empress of Akashi Corp. one day lmao

-very into gore and power dynamics like her father, but as emo as her dear mother (despite kuroko’s insistence that he’s a male, since he birthed her, he’s technically her mom so seika doesn’t really care)

-she has way more energy than her parents combined and probably the physical incarnation of bokushi

-she’s the only akakuro kid that became a basketball nerd too

-the middle child who’s also the younger twin (i think they might be born somewhere late in october)

- if abo is applicable, he’s the only omega child and papa is in his most protective father mode with him (in contrast to his rivalry with his daughter to almost everything -they also fight for kuroko’s attention every day lol)

-pretty much kuroko with akashi features sans eyes BUT when kuroko is more monotone, neutral and as masculine as an omega can be, kai is way more expressive, easily embarrassed, and basically a tsundere??

-he used to play basketball with his family when he was a kid, but he wasn’t interested in joining an actual team and devotes his time to the arts (animatics, webtoons and fanarts galore)

-he’s still somewhat a basketball fan tho, just not a player (papa and chichiue are still proud)

AKASHI YUKI (his hair and eyes are really light blue if you’re wondering)

-he’s the youngest by a grand 10 years from his older siblings (the pic says otherwise, i know) and probably born on april 1st or smth bc nobody believed kuroko when he said he was having third kid at his age lmao)

-like legit, in the abo, he was the one who wore traditionally fem clothes so everybody thought he was going to be another omega but then boom growth spurt and he’s an alpha ;-;

NOTE: yeah having akakuro as parents lead to a very stiff childhood, but rest assured, that’s just the parents’ personality and they still spoil them in their own way)

also yeah, they refer to them as their current closeness would have it:

seika refers to akashi and kuroko as ‘father’ and ‘*insert compliment* mother (or mama if she’s in her vulnerable states) because of her (reasonable) logic and because father is her eternal arch nemesis muahaha

the ‘papa’ thing between akashi and kai indicates their closeness, while he calls kuroko ‘chichiue’ because well, their similar personalities don’t really convey their affection for one another so yeah

yuki just calls them both dad so it’s pretty confusing or daddy/mommy for distinction but the unholiness to the couple is very apparent . He’s pretty neutral when it comes to favoritism (he slightly prefers kuroko over akashi tho)

two weeks after the start of hell on earth, a group of co-dependent seven young adults hit the road and leave the destruction behind. scared, tired, and just looking for a safe place to hide, they go on a road trip in the midst of summer, and find themselves in florida at a government-sanctioned refuge. with many questions left to be answered--the most importantly seemingly being what they saw on the road trip, and how the apocalypse started to begin with--the group must navigate the trusty waters of the unknown, for better or for worse.

when up against hellish beings, zombie-like creatures, and the government itself, will the group manage to survive? or will they succumb to the weight of the world on their shoulders?

☆ APRIL BROOKS: 21, bi, cis girl, biracial (half white/half mexican). she/her. manic, sarcastic, snarky, ex-bartender. although she seems really mean she’s actually super sweet and gentle; great with kids beneath her tough exterior. had a bad childhood but she doesn’t really show it. absolute punk aesthetic. loves dyed hair, has many piercings and tattoos. hardcore. adoptive mother to alexis brooks.

☆ FIONA YORK: 21, bi, cis girl, white. she/her. brutally honest, can be mean at times, but breaks down really easily. she’s quiet, adventurous, and driven. she’s flighty and doesn’t like being in the same place for a long time. tends to up and leave without any notice because she sucks at communicating. people rly either love or hate her. very flawed but honestly she’s trying ok. love interest is dannie.

☆ JACKIE VITSIN: 21, bi, cis girl, white. she/her. somehow super mean and super nice. she’s mostly just bitter and upset with herself half the time. very up in the clouds but not in a fun or quirky way, she’s just depressed and dissociating. she can be very cold and snappy but when she’s with someone she really bonds with, it’s not too hard for her to open up. was best friends with dannie when institutionalized, but bonded well with fiona too. love interest is piper.

RUA: GUTS AND GLORY

They call robot unicorn racing ‘glitter-clad annihilation’, but in the slums of Unicorn City, anyone can tell you that it’s a hundred times more gore than glitter.

Long before the Big Three agencies that dominate the major leagues – a world of glitz and glamour and designer gowns and cosmetic surgeries – brought robot unicorn racing into pop culture, the gangs that run the criminal underground of each respective planet in the Estrellian Federation were racing unicorns that they cobbled together out of spare parts and stolen robot horses. And when the billion-credit RUR industry exploded across holo-screens in every corner of the galaxy, the gritty, rough-and-tumble street races were swept along in its meteoric rise to the top – even if its popularity was confined to shady back alleys, skirting the edges of the law.

What started as a way to celebrate after a successful heist or to blow off steam after a particularly narrow escape has risen into a significant sector of the Federation’s underground on its own, with all the illegal bets and good ol’ fashioned mayhem and destruction galore. In the professional leagues, the judges care about aesthetics and form and execution: here, nothing matters except speed and fury (expressed in the extremely scientific units of ‘how much shit you blow up’, of course) … and money. Crime bosses have the potential to reap thousands of credits for each win (though that’s still nothing compared to the money in the legitimate industry), which is all the more motivation for them to ally themselves with the best – and the most brutal – street racers out there.

They say robot unicorn racing is a pre-teen girl’s fever dream made flesh, but here in the streets, it’s half heaven, all hell. Racers have nothing to lose, and everything to gain – so long as they don’t piss off the people who hold the real power.

1. Themes might very with this blog. It’ll typically be SFW, but there will likely be dark themes, violence and swearing.

Things will be tagged! I’ll try my best, anyways. If you want something in particular tagged, please let me know through ask / anon / im. The format I use for tagging is, for example, tw: swearing.

I don’t have any triggers but I do ask you tag all of your NSFW content.

That said, I won’t do anything NSFW - gore is okay, though.

I’m of age.

2. I’m private, meaning I only really roleplay with people I follow. This is so things don’t get too overwhelming and for me and to cement who I want to interact with. I generally follow most people if our writing clicks, though.

If I don’t follow you and you’d like me to check out your blog, lurk in my notifs. I’ll definitely see you and make note to check you out. Same with promos, or you can just rb them to a sideblog / send an ask with its url. I can’t gurantee I’ll follow, but I’ll certainly check it out!

If it’s a crossover, I have to know the fandom and be at least a little bit confident with it. This is so I’m able to work with you, our thread and have muse for it. You’re free to ask if I know of a fandom or not! I’ll have a list at some point.

I follow the tag #coolxnxblue. If there’s anything you want me to see, like dash commentary, just tag that and x-kit will alert me of your post! I may respond to ic stuff ic stuff if I’m feeling it.

In that sense, I’m chill with dash shenanigans with most folk, not just mutuals!

Absolutely no godmodding. It ain’t fun, fam. If you’re not sure what this term means, do look it up. This includes powerplaying, metagaming, and other things of that nature. This applies especially in fights if they happen (I’m chance-based and hope that you are too).

I can be picky with OCs. But rest assured, if you’ve followed me/interacted with my promo, I’ll always give your pages a read.

Please don’t be offended if I don’t want to interact with you (and please don’t try to guilt me into doing so!).

As for following back, I usually take a week tops to do so - but if you’ve hit up my promo, I go through that eventually.

I DON’T CARE ABOUT AESTHETICS. I just think they’re pretty. If you don’t use formatting or anything like that, or heck - even wanna’ just do iconless rp - I have no problem with it whatsoever! It’s you, your writing and your muse I care about!

3. Please don’t rush me for starters or responses.

PLEASE understand that I have blogs galore and my muse tends to fluctuate; this can mean I’m everywhere at once and can end up neglecting a blog or two. It’s nothing personal; you know how muses are! Additionally, life happens to be a thing.

Please note the mun deals with anxiety and depression, and has part time jobs which are honestly tiring - this might affect how frequently she roleplays.

Chances are, I’ve probably has seen that bit of interactivity and just haven’t gotten around to responding yet.

My roleplaying style being para/multi-para, I may take a while to respond. I hoard drafts like a dragon - it’s really just the motivation to write and ship those out.

I hoard asks, but sometimes can’t find muse or interest for all of them. If it’s been a month or two, generally assume I’m not interested / can’t find muse for it. You’re free to send another though!

I answer asks from anyone - personals, rp blogs and anons. I’ll answer non-mutual asks occaisonally but I won’t be making threads out of them

4. Shippings? Heck yeah, I ship lots with my blue son! Just make sure they’re of similar age pls.

If I don’t happen to be interested, don’t force anything on my character.

I do not ship incestuous ships. Do NOT follow/interact if you do.

The ship has to have chemistry; I’m generally shipping trash, but if they don’t click, they don’t click, sorry.

This is a multi-ship blog, meaning there will be more than one ship without them conflicting with eachother.

If you want to ship and I already have a ship of your choosing going with a duplicate, please don’t hesitate to hmu! My ships aren’t exclusive and each character/relationship portrayal is unique to me!

Relationships are eternal until you deem otherwise. If you’re not interested in a ship anymore, just let me know!

5. Whilst I am of age, I’m not aiming for sexual content on this blog (and will not be dealing with fetishes). That stuff makes me uncomfortable, and I typically don’t recommend pulling it with my character if you’re interacting with me. Nonetheless, should it arise, I will tag it appropriately as nsfw //.

6. About reblogs…

I am not a meme source, and reblogs clog up my activity. Please reblog any ask / starter memes you find on this blog from their SOURCE. The exception to this rule is if there is no source; go ahead.

I don’t feel comfortable with Personals reblogging my IC or OOC posts, so please don’t do that. If I put something in the fandom tags for whatever reason (bar promos), you’re free to, though.

This goes for my art too unless it has the tag ok to rb, but otherwise only the person I drew it for can reblog it. If you wanna’ reblog something, I DO put it on my art blog eventually!

A few times is fine, as it happens, but repeatedly breaking these rules will result in me soft blocking you.

I try to participate in reblog karma as much as I can, but always reblog from the source/a meme source.

If a post or ask is for you, you’re free to reblog it to save it though - but only if you’re an rp blog!

7. I’m a para / multi-para blog, novella if I’m adventurous and have time. Whilst I may roleplay crack threads with shorter responses, this does not apply to all threads I write. This means:

I write my replies as detailed as I can muster, and length can range from 1 paragraph to 6.

Short responses (such as one-liners) in more serious threads where I’ve written a decent deal can instantly kill my muse for that thread.

Whilst I’d prefer for partners to at least somewhat match my length, it’s entirely up to you - just try your best and make sure you give me enough to work with. ♡

If my muse happen to go nuts out of nowhere - like, overboard - don’t stress too much about matching him.

8. Threads! You can yeet asks, memes, and even starters at me if I’ve liked a call! I’ll obviously have my own you can like.

You’re free to like starter calls even if we’re not mutuals; I can check out your blog that way. I still only write starters for mutuals though.

I know pretty much most if not all Sonic media, bar Fleetway which I haven’t gotten around to reading yet. Since that’s unfamiliar territory, I’m unlikely to tread in it yet.

Starter memes are the BEST way to interact me because they just yeet a prompt at my face and really help me write starters. If you see me reblog one, send one!

If you want a certain verse, lemme’ know! Otherwise, I’ll either resort to game verse or whatever continuity your muse applies to (i.e, Sally (archie), Starline (idw), and so forth).

If you want to turn an ask into a thread, go ahead!

In that sense, I don’t recommend writing starters for me unless we’ve discussed something. I don’t like to leave anyone hanging.

Please don’t assume things about my muse. If you’re uncertain about things, ASK.

IMs are open to mutuals, if you want to do any in-depth plotting. I also have Discord if that’s more convenient for you!

9. Guidelines on mains and relationships:

If we’re mutuals and we interact a lot, you’re welcome to ask me if I’d like to be your main!

Please don’t be offended if I deny, though; I typically want to pick those I trust to be my mains as well as people I can comfortably write with.

Not limited to them! I roleplay with duplicates galore so don’t be afraid to hit me up if you want to interact!

Pre-established relationships are a-okay in my book; if you have an idea for a relationship between our muses we can work towards, hit me up! I reblog those pre-established relationship memes every so often too. Romantic relationships link back to the shipping guidelines.

Also, friendship/family/rivalry relationships are EXTREMELY valid to me - so don’t feel scared about asking for them!

10. If you have any issues, please let me know and hopefully we can resolve it!

I am absolutely terrible with IMs and Discord. I either respond quickly or days later, depends on my mood. Social anxiety tends to interfere with this (and more recently exhaustion from work) - but honestly, if you’ve sent something, I’ve likely read it and just haven’t gotten around to it yet! It’s nothing personal; trust me!

Please leave me out of drama; I’m here to have a good time, as is everyone else, and it pains me to see people arguing.

This is a little different with callouts - if I see anything on dash pertaining to any problematic users, I will take it into consideration and rb it if I believe them to be harmful.

11. To retierate, I tend to follow those that:

Write para and whom I feel my muse would click with.

Seem chill? Tone can really intimidate me honestly.

Have rules and about pages! Knowing the boudaries of my rp partners is super important as well as their lovely muses! Sometimes rules are enough, though, if you’re going to write the about eventually.

Tag their nsfw.

Don’t have massive icons - ie, have rp icons that take up an entire text post like 500x500 or something. I don’t want to clog the dash and it’s tiring to resize them.

...also, if I follow your hub blog (provided it doesn’t double as a personal), it generally means I’m cool with any blogs that are attached to it.

12. On threads…

If you’re not interested in a thread anymore, and would like to drop it, please let me know! I’d feel terrible if we’re both not having fun with it or if partners feel overwhelmed with the amount of threads we have.

Honestly, unless I let you know, our threads have no expiry date - so no need to worry about me dropping them without telling you. I can just be quite slow sometimes.

13. Mun does not equal muse! Anything my muse might say does not reflect on how I think unless I explicitly say so.

14. Know that if I follow you, I WANT to interact with you.

I literally couldn’t care less about follower counts. I care about YOU guys and our interactions.

So hey con, what's this new anime/manga thing I see on your blog that you've been nonstop posting about? Looks actually pretty nice and the kinda thing I'd be into but I want to look a little more into it and find things out, like it's name for example, before I go diving into the cesspool of the internet for it

this is gonna get long so, tldr: ancient chinese gays! comedy! action! mystery! good meta! immortality! gods!

non-tldr: welcome to hell. specifically, mxtx hell, where a bunch of people yell really loudly about three different novels written by the same author (Mò Xiāng Tóng Xiù, aka, mxtx). it’s not actually all the same thing, she just has some very specific aesthetics for her main couples dsfkjgsdfghs here’s a good way to differentiate them.

anyway i’ll give you a summary of the novels and if you find one interesting, please do enjoy your gateway drug because i’ve Never seen someone only read one of these once they start.

first up, Mo Dao Zu Shi / Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation / Founder of Diabolism (it’s got a lot of names, i’m sticking with mdzs)

question: what is MDZS about?

a goth and a prep mutually pining for each other while fighting zombies and solving murders, accidentally adopting a riot of awkward teenagers along the way.

an uncomfortable look into the ethics of humanity, struggles with internalised homophobia and self-hatred, our stances both as a whole and individually on the complex issues around vilification, what counts as ‘the greater good’, the difficulty of forgiveness, and how ‘doing what’s right’ doesn’t always mean the same thing for different people.

answer: all of the above and hot damn is it fun. this is probably the one you meant when you said anime, cuz guess what? it has one and it’s GORGEOUS.

10/10. be warned, you WILL cry, you WILL want to fight the author, and you WILL love it. it’s incredibly angsty at parts and incredibly funny always and the romance kills me dead every time i think about it. slow toasty burn, with a super good plot that gets deeper and deeper as it goes. if you re-read the novel after you finish it you’ll find so many things you thought were insignificant on the first pass suddenly kicking you in the chest.

warnings for [SPOILERS]: dubious consent kissing, drunken touching, consensual rape kink. also starvation, slavery, genocide, gore, and body horror. mentions of incest and it’s consequences.

my favourite of the three is Tian Guan Ci Fu, or Heavenly Official’s Blessing.

tgcf is about a sexy demon pirate tagging along with a trash collecting disney princess who is very bad at staying in heaven (where he belongs). they go around systematically digging up every single piece of dirt on everybody ever - including, unfortunately, themselves. //sips tea/ delicious.

it’s basically an action/detective novel, heavy on the comedy and angst. read this for introspection, self acceptance, growth, forgiveness, endless torture, incredible pain, suffering like you’ve never known, the effects of war and genocide, results of abuse, beautiful imagery, Gundam, endless devotion, unconditional support, and the knowledge that hualian exists and invented romance. to put it another way:

if you like plot filled slow burn with healthy dynamics and a lot of trust, this is the series for you. 10000/10 i will take this novel to my grave PLEASE read tgcf. did i mention it’s also getting a donghua sometime soon?

warnings for [SPOILERS]: gore, cannibalism (kinda), plus child abuse and lots of body horror. gaslighting and manipulation feature pretty heavily in places (especially books 4 and 5). severe depression, anxiety, suicide, and self-depreciation are all dealt with as well.

read the first 21 chapters HERE, and you can find the rest on @ yummysuika ‘s pinned tweet, including the extras! the manhua is starting in a few days, and the donghua will be out next year!! wOOO

finally, we have the first book mxtx published, Scum Villain’s Self-Saving System (i’m not touching the cn phonetics for that, we’re going sv for short).

to quote a tweet i saw one time, sv is about a shitty millennial litcrit who gets sucked into the novel he hates as the main villain, and how he struggles to survive while his overpowered disciple crytypes his way to true love. this is the fun one! [thinks about meta] …….the fun one [thinks about any character other than the mc] f-

it’s got a lot more web novel tropes and is generally an easier read. sv is full of hijinks and shenanigans and the tortured screams of a 21st century man who really just wants to lie around and eat good food, but keeps being dragged into everything against his will. comedic misunderstandings galore up in this bitch, character development and relationship growth gets Much heavier towards the end, and if you’re looking for a fun read to pass the time! this is the one! just don’t think about it. because it’s written from the perspective of an idiot with 2 braincells total, we also get to enjoy the Epitome of unreliable narrator syndrome.

overall 8.5/10, would recommend. it sets up and breaks a Lot of stereotypes, and the satire is *chef’s kiss*. don’t be fooled by the way the mc sees the characters, ya gotta look at it from their pov too. it’s getting a donghua in 2020, and the manhua will be out (again) sometime soon as well! yehaw!

warnings for [SPOILERS]: student-teacher relationship, forced kissing, some kinda dubious-consent touching, and a scene where one character thinks the other is going to rape them (nothing happens). additional warnings for violence, mentions of gore, slavery, bullying, and child abuse. (i haven’t read the last few chapters, but unless something Wild happens, that should cover things.)

one thing all mxtx novels have in common is the awesome side characters. you’ll probably end up loving a couple of them more than the protagonists and that’s just how it be. we’re all crying here. another thing they have in common is good plots. whether you’re interested in characters, plot development, deep conceptualisation, romance - it’s all there. just don’t go in looking for hot gay smex, cause that really ain’t what it’s about.

all of these are easier to get into if you have some knowledge of xianxia/wuxia/xuanhuan tropes, but it’s not a must! the translators provide great footnotes, so just google a phrase or refer back to them if you get stuck. you can read them in whatever order you want, they’re not connected at all, but if you’re new to the whole thing i’d recommend starting with the mdzs donghua or sv. as much as i love it, tgcf isn’t the best choice to start with.
