Okay but given that you can make alcohol from just about any plant, a world built around Minecraft could have SUCH a liquor cabinet.
You’ve got your basics, the potato and wheat vodka, gin, whiskey, then rum from sugarcane or beet sugar if you’re feeling a little adventurous.
Then you’ve got the fancier things. Dandelion and melon wine, spike vodka, pumpkin liqueur, applejack. Zhuyeqing jiu and chocolate liquor if you REALLY want to go for the cool stuff.
You’ve got mead and all kinds of moonshine, everything from carrots to kelp to sawdust brandy if you live out in the Badlands. Sunflower and rose spirits, lilac wine, even milk liquor and advocaat if you want to deviate from plants a bit.
But then you’ve got the plants that don’t exist in our sphere.
Chorus liqueur, dripleaf absinthe, glowberry champagne and sweet berry wine, glow lichen beer and crème de spore blossom, golden apple cider, glistering cordial. For the truly danger-seeking, wither rose lanique.

Note
A suggestion for noted English Scholar Prof. Dr. Holligay! I know you have made cocktails based on each (or a selected few?) Senshi — would you ever consider a cocktail menu based on your favorite books?
This would be such an interesting idea, wouldn't it??*
I can't even imagine how I would go about that, you'd have to really think about what it meant to represent a book. Like Watership Down: The book is English, but I don't think it's SO English that the base spirits would have to invoke England.
So maybe I would do a really easygoing sparkling as the base, with a gentian liqueur to evoke grassiness, and then add maybe a touch of St. Germain for floral notes. OH OR. Infuse vodka with clover and dandelion flowers??? Use that with some sparkling and maybe a little swish of blackcurrant liqueur.
Actually, now as I'm sitting here thinking about it, I would actually want to make a few cocktails if I was going to do a Wateship Down thing
The above clover vodka-blackcurrent thing would be great as the actual "Watership Down" cocktail, but then I would want to do something for El-ahrairah and the Black Rabbit of Inlé which I think would have be necessarily different from each other.
I think for El-ahrairah I'm going to lean into both the 'brightness' of him, and the tricks, and maybe do a layered butterfly pea flower and orange cocktail. Maybe rum and butterfly pea mixed, with a layer of orange and pineapple on the top or bottom--I would try it both ways and see what works better--and then as they mix it would turn to pink. (the trick)
Black Rabbit of Inlé would be something dark and smoky, maybe either a mezcal or scotch base, with a chocolate bitter, and one of my dark whiskey cocktail cherries, maybe. Basically a twist on an old-fashioned. This is what I would drink out of these ahaha.
*Also, when I was fake-planning my Random Cheap Inverness Ticket vs Business I did not think of this at the time but I would absolutely head down south via Haworth and do the whole Bronte Sisters thing. Apparently there's an easy near 7 mile loop where you can go to the ruins that are supposed to be Wuthering Heights, and, yes, I would do that. I would hope it rained and was miserable so I could scream for Cathy

Morning Star Martini; Diluc brainrot +18
"The Morning Star Martini is a sunsettia-flavoured cocktail made with vanilla-flavoured fire water, sunsettia liqueur, sweet flower juice, and lime juice. It is traditionally accompanied by a chilled shot glass of dandelion wine."
Notes: Tried to make the reader as gender ambiguous as possible.

TW: having Diluc spit in your drink, begging, hickeys, him going down on you, overstimulation, hair pulling kink
As Diluc explained what the Morning Star Martini was you couldn't focus on his words. At all. You were just resting your head on your hands, elbows steady on the counter on the bar as you were fighting gravity on a stool at Angel's Share. You decided to close your eyes for a moment; to gather your thoughts amidst the chaotic chatter filling the building.
Your mind felt clouded and your vision was faded because of being exposed to so much alcohol that evening.
When you went out that evening with your drinking buddy, Venti, he seemed more energetic than usual, frolicking all the way to the tavern.
"-Tonight it’s going to be so much fun!" those words chimed in your mind, not being able to remember the rest of Venti's mischievous plan, a familiar voice breaking your train of thought.
-Would you like to try it?
You've opened your eyes.
The redhead had a soft smile on his face, yet his fidgeting hands betrayed the calm façade he was trying to pull off. For how long did you make him wait?
-I -I should... maybe- Sounds good...? Yeah.
You blurted out in a panic, not wanting to waste his time further. Diluc raised his brow in confusion before turning away, getting things ready for your drink.
With a hasty sigh you tried to lean back in your chair yet firmly grasping the table so you could turn around without tumbling off the chair. You looked around the crowded bar, your eyes desperately searching for Venti to no avail. Perhaps he went upstairs?
Alas, your thoughts were suddenly interrupted by Diluc’s voice, this time calling out your name;
-Your drink is ready. I hope you will enjoy it.
Turning back in your seat to face him, you noticed the crimson haired man holding a martini glass filled to the brim with a sparkling orange colored cocktail, and another shot glass filled halfway with dandelion wine. You wanted to inspect the beverage further but your eyes locked on Diluc’s face, specifically his lips which were curved into a warm smile. He was eagerly waiting for you to accept the drink yet your thoughts were horribly scattered. His excitement turned into embarrassment as he noticed you staring at him like that. Trying his best to maintain his composure, he set the glasses on the bar next to you.
He planned to call it a night and head for the winery. Not being fully sober himself, he thought that leaving as soon as possible was the best option. He was had his doubts that a certain bard took it upon himself to get as many people drunk that night as possible but he had no concrete evidence for that.
But the next thing he knew was you waving your hand out for him to notice you, practically jumping out of your seat in the process.
-Does this… drink. Yeah, does this have any alcohol?
You felt the need to ask that because throughout the whole evening Venti offered you a lot of fruit juice. But you came to the realization that the little shit spiked all of it with alcohol and you got to the point where you got accustomed to it and yearned for more. Alas, the drink offered by Diluc smelled so fruity and devilishly innocent it drove you nuts.
There was an awkward moment of silence though. He swore he was struck by lightning hearing those words.
You’ve teased him like that ever since you got tipsy, it was innocent flirty things like telling him you liked him or calling him darling out of nowhere, he wanted to gloss over to not set his heart ablaze. He wanted to believe it was all because of your drunken state; but he couldn’t stand the thought of you mocking his bartending expertise.
So he took that personally; he came back to your spot without saying a word, swiftly snatched your the shot glass before pouring all the liquid into his mouth and sort of just held it for a few moments.
He didn’t swallow, but instead he opened his mouth and let the liquid drip off his tongue back into the cocktail glass, maintaining eye contact the whole time until he felt most of it gone. You swore you felt your heart drop right there and then.
-Sure does.
Diluc said that calmly then set the glasses on the counter, closer to you this time. You suddenly felt blood rush furiously as you started to blush noticeably, invasive thoughts flooding your mind.
The red haired man was fed up though, hurrying to make his leave for the night and as soon as you realized that adrenaline took over you. In the span of a few seconds you downed the whole drink then rushed after him. He noticed that but was too tired to protest.
-I am sorry… please don’t leave without me.
He glanced over at you with a defeated stare and gave you a small nod. With that you didn’t know what to say anymore, and before you knew it you’ve walked with him all the way to the winery holding onto his arm, without saying a word. The fresh morning air was enough to slowly sober you up.
As you walked into the mansion with Diluc you couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed about the tension that pent up through that whole night. He guided you to a guest room and handed you some mattresses, avoiding eye contact. The said tension wasn’t any better for him.
-I am so sorry, Diluc…
-Apology accepted, sleep well.
You hesitantly took them then he walked out, closing the door behind him. After leaving the neatly piled mattresses on the bed you let yourself drop down on the floor next to it, ending up sitting cross legged. That moment at Angel’s Share started to take over your mind, you couldn’t figure out if it was erotic on purpose or he simply wanted to mock your ignorance but you couldn’t care less. It made you ache for him and it was getting more and more unbearable by the second. Enough so to get you to consider touching yourself then and there.
A few minutes passed, but you swore it felt like hours; and you heard some footsteps approaching your room followed shortly by gentle knocking on your door. You hurried to get up and go open it.
-I came to apologise for being so mean to you, and to properly wish you a good night.
The kind smile he had in that moment took you off guard. He has changed in his pajamas too; a black silk set. His hair was tied up in a messy bun this time and you couldn’t help but try to overcome your invasive thoughts again. He was so innocently erotic and for what?
-Why haven’t you made your bed yet, is there anything wrong?
-We need to talk. I… I have something to confess to you.
The man was confused yet surely intrigued. He nodded and offered you to join him in his room which you eagerly agreed to.
-What is it that you want to talk about?
He asked as he calmly sat down on his bed, waiting for you to take a seat next to him, so you did.
Trying to make up your mind on how to express your message clearly you felt as if a lump was starting to form at the back of your throat.
For a second, you thought that looking at him may ease the tension but it was quite the opposite. Seeing him looking so kindly at you in that dim light only made your stomach flutter.
Not being able to say the words while looking at him you decided to stare at your unconsciously fidgeting hands that were resting on your lap.
-This may come off as sudden, since we've known each other for only a year, and we've been good friends but... I’ve caught feelings for you and I am ashamed for the stupid things I have done this night. I can’t apologize enough for…
You felt the bed shift slightly and the next thing you knew was Diluc holding you in a firm embrace. It felt like a dream and you instinctively reached your arms to hold him even closer.
-I have been crazy about you for the longest time, you have no idea. Thank you for letting me know the way you feel about me.
Diluc whispered that to you which only made your heart race faster. Being this close to him, his sweet scent hit you hard even it was subtle; he smelled floral but it was laced with fruity tones. You felt yourself become greedy, wanting to feel more of him.
-Prove it.
You whispered back and you found yourself pinned down on his bed. Finally able to see his face, you were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of his eyes for a moment before he went in for a gentle kiss. Before you had a chance to process what was going on he deepened the kiss as one of his hands started to caress your sides gently causing you to gasp. He pulled away blushing, his breath sightly heavy; but yours wasn't any better.
-I want to ravish you, you've been so intoxicating tonight, making me starve for you. I thought about taking you right there and then. You have been... Such a tease. But taking you all the way like that wouldn't have been fair and even now... it just isn't right.
His words left you speechless and slightly disappointed, nevertheless you found yourself gripping the sheets beneath you without realising it. Diluc took that as an opportunity to seat himself nicely between your legs, a hand gliding teasingly underneath the upper part of your garments.
-Therefore, a taste should suffice, until we are both sober. Would that okay?
You felt your legs tremble slightly, and he noticed. So he moved his other hand on your knee in hopes to comfort you. Little did he know, despite ceasing the movement, it only made your grip onto the sheets stronger.
-Suit yourself.
You muttered, looking away. The next thing you knew it was him chuckling as he started to undress you, painstakingly slow. Yet he took the decision to leave your underwear on, much to your pleas to peel them away.
-By the way, I need your feedback on this. I want to make sure you're feeling good, love.
He said, leaning in to leave kisses and love bites along your chest, your abdomen...He would glance up at you as he left some marks near your pelvic area too. Instinctively, you reached out your hand to grab him by his hair, holding a firm grip next to his bun. A quiet moan escaped his mouth which made you smirk.
-You can bite harder...-
-Beg for me, dear.
His command made you sigh but you obliged.
-Please, harder... now...
You mewled out and he obliged, biting and sucking harder when leaving marks on your skin. He slowly made his way to your bare thighs, leaving countless marks there, seeming to have a good time as he watched you try to lean your hips towards him when his breath would get too close to your sensitive bits.
It felt so good you swore you could just come untouched properly; how scandalous.
He pressed a thumb on the wet patch that formed on the fabric of your underwear and you gasped. After circling it around for a few moment he slid a finger beneath the upper half of your underwear just to let it snap back on your skin.
-Diluc... Please... stop teasing me already.
Keeping eye contact, he licked the thumb which he used to toy you with, a pleased hum leaving his mouth as he felt your taste.
-What a shame, I really wanted to take my time with this, you know. But I will do as you wish.
After he took off the rest of your underwear along with his shirt, he hurried a pillow beneath where he was about to place himself. That made you realize he planned to stay a good while there.
-Ah, I don't think I will last that long-
-No worries, we will just start over.
Right after he cut you off he started to give you soft kisses right where you ached the most and you found yourself tremble again, a hand instinctively rushing to his hair, grasping it firmly. A suppressed moan escaped his mouth and that's the moment when it finally clicked; he had a thing for getting his hair gripped like that. So you started to tug gently on it as he started to use his tongue to please you. You both started to breathe heavily, consumed by lust.
Diluc noticed you started to get used to the slow pace so he didn't rush it, but instead he started to use some more pressure when sucking on your sensitive parts.
That got you to crack, starting to moan a bit too loudly to your liking, so you thought about covering your mouth with the back of your hand. The moment you wanted to take a hand out of his hair he paused to stop you, leaving you throbbing for more.
-Don't do that. Let me hear you moan.
You whined but hesitantly nodded. He leaned in for a kiss before getting back to his place, this time snaking his arms beneath your thighs. A wave of relief washed over you as he resumed his actions. Lewd noises started to escape your mouth as he fastened his pace over time. Instead of attempting to quiet yourself, you started to play with his soft hair, occasionally tugging on it just to get him to moan out for you too.
-There we go, you're doing great, my love.
He muttered for a moment which made your stomach flutter.
-I'm close, please don't stop...Ah!
You gasped as you felt your orgasm nearing. A soft sigh escaped his mouth before he gripped your hips steadily, his pace unchanging. It was just what you needed to finally reach your orgasm, leaving out a sharp moan as you realized he kept going, for a while more after you rode out your high, tugging hard on his hair.
-Diluc! Please-
Before you knew it you found yourself arching your back as another orgasm hit you hard, leaving you trembling. You heard him chuckle as he pulled himself away. As he did your hands fell limp next to your body. Your heart raced so fast in those moments you felt like you were about to burst. And you couldn't really stop feeling that way, not when you noticed the way he was staring at you while swiping his index finger across his cheek to wipe off some of your cum before licking it off.
-I'm getting drunk all over again, this time on your taste... I want more, so much more, but I will let you have a break for now. In the meantime, here, have some water.
You felt a wave of heat spreading over your body at the thought of starting it all over again, yet you tried to dismiss that as you slowly sat up, taking the glass of water from him. You drank it all quickly and you couldn't help but notice the obvious erection he had.
-I would love to taste you too, actually.
You noticed the small gulp he had at that.
-Don't say such thing, I won't be able to control myself anymore. Let me hold off until the next evening.
A sigh of defeat left your mouth but you obliged; setting the glass on the night stand. The thought of him losing control made you excited but you wanted to let him build up his neediness further.
-Very well then, as you wish, love.
He chuckled then crawled on top of you, starting an intense makeout session.

"Happy Birthday Dandelion"
*I'm hitting you guys with another SamLud fic for Sami's birthday! Happy birthday Sami you ginger angel!*
Ludwig was busy mixing the cake batter when he felt strong arms wrap around his waist and Sami's head looking over his shoulder. "What are you doing violet?" Sami asked as he kissed Ludwig's cheek. Ludwig immediately blushed at the nickname and from the kiss while trying not to spill the bowl. "Well schatz it is your birthday today right? So it's my duty as your loving boyfriend to make you a cake for said occasion" Ludwig said proudly. "Violet, you know you don't have to go through all this trouble just for my birthday... I would've been happy receiving a cake from you that you bought from the store" Sami said while hugging Ludwig from behind.
Ludwig looked at him with a look mixed with shock and disgust. "You really think I? Ludwig Kaiser! Would give the love of my life a mere pathetic representation of a pastry that looked like it was found inside a dumpster and beaten with a stick? Absolutely not! It's your birthday and you deserve to have a cake made by yours truly! Do I make myself clear schatz?" Ludwig said giving Sami a serious look. "He's cute when he's mad" Sami thought but nodded his head in agreement. "Good! Now can you please pass me the liqueur" he said which gave Sami a confused look. "Don't you mean liquor chérie?" Sami asked. "It's pronounced liqueur but yes I need the liquor" Ludwig said with a smile as Sami passed him the liquid.
As Ludwig poured the liqueur into the mix and started stirring he felt Sami's eyes burning into his back. "If you keep staring at me it will take longer for me to finish it meine liebe" he said while looking at Sami's flustered face. "O-oh yeah right! I-I'll just go wait at the table til you're ready!" Sami said then he kissed Ludwig's cheek and ran which caused Ludwig to chuckle. "How I ever ended up with that man will always be a mystery to me" Ludwig thought with a smile as he put the cake in the oven and set the timer for an hour.
Sami was sitting at the dining room table anxiously waiting for Ludwig to bring him his cake. When Ludwig put the tray on the table Sami was in awe. It was a yellow cake with cream in the middle and topped with honey and almonds. "This looks delicious violet! What is it?" Sami asked while not tempting to ruin the perfect cake. "It's a Bienenstich or normally called a German Bee Sting Cake and it was rumored to be created by German bakers from the 15th century who lobbed beehives at raiders from a neighboring village, successfully repelling them, and celebrated later by baking a version of this cake named after their efforts.” Ludwig said with a blush on his face.
"I can't wait to try it! But I don't wanna ruin it so maybe you could feed it to me? It is my birthday" Sami said with a smile. Ludwig blushed and sat in Sami's lap and cut a piece of the cake and fed it to him. Ludwig swore that he saw stars in Sami's eyes when he ate his first bite. "Violet... this is delicious! You're an amazing baker!" he said which caused Ludwig to blush. "I'm glad you like it! Alles Gute zum Geburtstag Löwenzahn" he said while giving Sami kisses. "What does that mean violet?" Sami said with crumbs all over his mouth causing Ludwig to giggle. "It means happy birthday dandelion" he said while wiping Sami's face which caused Sami to blush. "With you violet, this was the best birthday ever" he said then he kissed Ludwig deeply. Ludwig was happy he gave his dandelion the best birthday ever while Sami was happy he got to spend it with his violet.

Getting Drunk on Living
I am drunk On being alive; Sipping a blend of winter air And mown grass, crunching Changéd leaves like ice – Taking shots of blue sky And rainy days – Opening the well aged bottles Of starry night, dandelion fluff, Mountains in sunset – Giggling when my ID Gets me a stash of Old-book smell, lover’s laughter Lying in the sun – Brewing up my own liqueur From the snapshots (smiles, family, birthdays) – The bubbles of Meeting friends, seeing seasons change, Thunderstorms, Tickling my throat on the way down – I am so intoxicated By my existence and The experience of being human

I came across my owl flask while reorganizing, and it sloshed.  A sniff and fingertip taste confirmed it was an older batch of my own dandelion liqueur so I poured some for Hestia (who also has her own nasturtium sprig), and then poured some for the Ancestors.
It’s matured in both color and taste even as simple as it is, and it’s got to be at least six or seven years old by now.  That small portion will get consumed or offered.
I rinsed the flask with boiling water.  After it dries, I’ll refill it with something suitable for working offerings and get the flask back into my active magickal tools after years on my belt at festivals.

Dente Di Leone Liqueur Recipe D.I.Y.
Hey Guys and Gals!
Are you looking for an awesome Dente Di Leone Liqueur Recipe? You now have no reason to look any further; you have just found what you have been looking for! This is a recipe for the most awesome tasting Dente Di Leone Liqueur Recipe in the world.
Ingredient
Step 1
50 dandelion flowers (collected when fully in bloom)
1 whole lemons cut in pieces
Juice of 1 lemon
Step 2
1/2 cup of sugar
1/2 cup of water
Step 3
3 cups of vodka ( or a 1 1/2 cups of 95 mixed with 1 1/2 water)
Utensils Tips
Here is a list of the simplest utensils that you can use; the ones Mom should already have in the kitchen:)
Utensils
– cheesecloth – saucepan – small funnel – glass bottles, or storage containers, for bottling and serving, you can either use the glass Jar you used before, or just buy a second one.
Directions
Step 1
Juice your lemon either by hand or with a juicer and slice your second lemon, place together with your dandelion flowers into the container you will be using for aging make sure that there will be enough room for the sugar, water, and vodka.
Step 2
Pour your water into a saucepan and bring to a boil then stir in the sugar. Keep on stirring till all the sugar has dissolved then shut fire and wait till it has cooled.
Add your sugar water to your container close, and store in a warm place and let rest for 1 week.
Step 3
After 1 week of waiting add in your vodka.
Aging, Straining, Filtering, and Drinking Your Dente Di Leone Liqueur Recipe
Shake well and store away from sunlight in a cool and dry place for 3 months.
Filter with the cheesecloth, it helps to moisten the cheesecloth first so the liquid permeates more smoothly.
Once you get to the point where you have strained everything out, you can gently wring the cheesecloth to extract all of the liquid and juice.
If you still need to strain your liqueur further due to lack of clarity, you can strain it 1 more time through a coffee strainer.
Take out the funnel and pour into your bottles.
Congratulations, You Have Completed Making this Awesome Dente Di Leone Liqueur Recipe!
You now need a bottle and a label which are cool enough to compliment your hard work. Honestly, if you put it into a cheap bottle, people will make fun of you. BUT, if it looks good, people will rave about it!
Notes on Utensils and Ingredients
Glass is always preferable when working with strong alcohol. Avoid plastic as much as possible.
Use organic ingredients to avoid pesticide residues.

What follows is a catalog of sorts, which I compile with the aim of using my own knowledge and experience to produce an index of offerings that have proven themselves especially effective in propitiating the Gloaming Folk. This is based only upon what I have witnessed personally over many years of Gloaming Intercession, and as such, it is in no way meant to serve as a definitive guide. However, each thing listed herein is something I have directly observed the Twilight Brood accept, not just with recognition or gratitude, but with zestful relish. 2021 has an incredibly intense year in so many ways (I'm sure many of you can relate). I still remember the before-me and I'm getting acquainted with who this after-me is going to be but living in the constant liminality of this moment has been an on-going challenge. I've been counting my days by moon cycles because time hasn't mattered otherwise in a very long time.
Except now somebody decided that tomorrow is different. That day - in the middle of this fog - that day is the right day to start anew.
I don't do resolutions but I'm fond of goals. I set myself a lofty three: to walk to the cemetery every single day with my camera, to read 28 books, and to write a post a week on my blog. I accomplished the third, missed the second by almost ten, and walked to the cemetery many days of the year but certainly not all, and surprisingly few times with my camera.
Tumblr media
My other big goal of the year was to pick one plant to focus on every month whether for eating, growing, or other forms of magic. In the Winter months when plant life is scarce around here, the pickings where easy. I worked with citrus quite a bit but focused much of my time and attention of the beautiful towering evergreens which dominate the winter landscape here in Southern New England.
I fell instantly in love with using Eastern White Pine as a road opener and used a combination of different evergreens together to create powerful protection and healing products. I still haven't posted publicly about the protection candles that I made out of evergreen oil in the early springtime.
Then, all it once spring kicked in and I found myself having to choose between working with dandelion or working with violet (both of whom decided to bloom in Dora's garden at the exact same time). It was obvious that one botanical a month wasn't going to cut it. I made it work though. As I count out my botanical allies of the year, the total is more than twelve. I just had to let what wanted to come to me, come to me. My partner needed an anti-itch salve more than anything this Summer and an overabundance of jewelweed pretty much fell into my hands.
Tumblr media
My recollections of the year go much like that. We realized we needed something, and found a way to make it work. I've been trying hard to localize my craft and have found chicory growling in the ditches and mugwort in the fallow fields. I stumbled upon bags of $3 fresh peaches at the local flower stand and my friends handed us bags of their yard pears.
I found that I had to seek out a lot less than was expected. That I could trust in what nature provided. My bestie had too many nasturtium and my neighbor down the street was weeding out her deadnettle. I did travel to the beaches of Cape Cod for some rose hips but otherwise, the earth, right where I was living, provided. In more abundance than I found that I had time for on some days.
I promised myself that 2021 would be a year of learning and it certainly was. But I didn't do so with my nose in a book nearly as much as I imagined - instead I walked a frozen lake in the dead of Winter to discover Bearberry deep in the woods. And I returned to watch the frog's eggs grow in the vernal pool for four weeks running while I visited my friends baby goats.
Tumblr media
I spent my time chasing bees and butterflies and making friends with my neighborhood trees. I visited the ocean three times and lost myself in the wildness as often as I possibly could.
I find myself wondering where the time gone but then I see snippets of my many adventures in photographs and my journals. I fiddled endlessly with kitchen projects: eastern white pine vodka, a failed winter gin, another failed violet liqueur, but a win on dandelion jelly, and beautiful evergreen candles. Plus, my evergreen salve! We ate the evergreens, and lamb's quarters, and nasturtium with glee. My peony jam didn't set but the strawberry and rosehips were a complete success. I brandied pears and made everything imaginable out of apples and cranberries.
It doesn't feel like enough but I think that is what makes me a bit of a scientist as well as a witch. There is always another herb to try, something that if I only had time to experiment with it, I might make such beautiful and ephemeral magic.
Tumblr media
I confess, I do not understand how we are here again already. It seems like only yesterday that it was the new years last and I was wandering around hoping to find spruce for my kitchen projects.
And so, I make my goals again. To go outside with my camera every single day (and walk to the cemetery when I can), to live in the moment and in touch with what the universe is giving me, to read two books a month, and to continue to share it all with you.

Geralt, Jaskier and Yennefer attend a wedding fair. In order to win some goodies an engagement is formed which becomes increasingly more comfortable as the day goes on.
"And that’s because you’re happy with 'Fine. It fits, I suppose'.” Yennefer turned back to Jaskier. “Is this what you want, Jaskier? To look okay on your wedding day? To wear a dress you can barely walk in, in a lace that doesn’t suit you, with sleeves too narrow for your shoulders?"
Jaskier pressed his lips together, having been caught in mid-adjustment of a slipping sleeve. Yennefer held out her empty glass as the beleaguered sales assistant passed, commanding another top-up.
“Then you’d better listen to me, Jaskier,” she said, violet eyes blazing with purpose. “Because we are not stopping at fine, Jaskier. We are stopping at perfect. We are stopping at everything.”

Mulberries are ripe!
Unfortunately jar fermenter is in use for the dandelion wine, so the thoughts I had about mulberry wine will wait another year. But I can make mulberry liqueur, which should be nice.
I may reblog this with pictures but I cannot guarantee they’ll be ~aesthetic~

The End of Literature
Tumblr media
Woke from a dry sleep, careful not to rustle the pages as I lay there. You slept between 204 and 205 that night. I was between 200 and 201. We meet at the binding while we dream and eat through the paper like mites until our blind mouths sink into each other's. Fresh pages every few days. The spine is cracked from being laid open for so long. I can never remember to pick up my clothes. Literature, dismayed by rumors of new storytellers that feed while sleeping and feel no hunger by day, feels obliged to uninvent itself. History rolls backward, stuffing jewels back into the mouths of our heroes, putting their hats on backwards and reminding them of their worried families and overdue bills. They are dismissed. Kisses run under fingers like Braille and race up the arms, reaching mouths but never eyes or ears; lovers gasp at the mental rockets but exhale nothing, glowing like cast-iron stoves packed hot, so perfectly hot that there is no exhaust ever, just more heat. More and more. Speculation flies through the headlines, reinforced by omens and market trends. Global economies become obsessed with their own thoughts, and explode. Pilots point their planes at the earth for a full two minutes during each flight in an effort to unite people in wordless expiation. Ticket prices soar; people pay them. Certain products are discontinued and not missed: sunscreen, dental floss, vitamins.
And books. Books are still made but they have evolved. Not into flickering words on electronic paperscreens, but into something between a wedding cake and a letter-bomb. Thickly frosted, with pockets of dye or liqueur that will occasionally rupture and run down the wrists, staining clothes. Fold-out panels of spun sugar printed with India ink, the creases laden with pollen and freeze-dried berries ground into a fine powder that stops up the throat in a spasm of wet thunder. Compressed air that suddenly sprays from a concealed jet in the binding and cools the brow so that one can smell the frakincense and cholera that's rubbed off onto one's fingertips. Unexplained flashes of heat or creamy smoke as tripwires taped between pages are pulled loose. Bindings of all shapes, with textures and grooves made to be coveted between the breasts or taken into or against oneself, figurines embedded into illustrations, radium alloy airbrushed onto their marzipan shells. A concerto within a witch's gingerbread house within an epic novel within a Fabergé egg. Each new volume practically oozes out of its box when delivered, like fresh fish in a newspaper. Its pages akimbo and its letters marching like ants, running like mercury, the cover sticking to fingers and its innards recondite with impossible flavors illustrating facts mined from the collective heart of living — or from the void — it promises a digital transfer of information to the brain, by way of heart, by way of stomach. The first books made exclusively of edible components inspire unrest and a sort of audible sighing above the cities as the waiting begins. We weren't satisfied anymore, you see. We needed to be able to take in all of it. The importance of words was eclipsed by the need for communion, for intercourse and physical transmutation, over and over again. We wanted to tattoo our organs with the things we knew, and sought creative ways to swallow the needle. The new books have come, and we, the ruminant, can feel our clockwork hitching and galloping to accommodate the strange mass, our mechanisms busting their teeth on the indigestible and incandescent compost seeded with suprahuman utterances and spongiform manifestos scattering through the body like dandelion parachutes. We excrete the paint and lithium battery-cases while our cells feed and our faces shine, but there is no name for it, and nothing to discuss.
Tumblr media
One book at a time per person, no sharing, so that we cannot continue life's illusion that anything is actually shared, nor tell if we are awake or asleep together, or whether we are making love. The world is something that happens inside each of us. Each person, every man and woman, is a star. Together you and I broke apart our furniture to make room for the new hardware. The latest models were bound in leather and velvet, with scallops sawn into their edges so that one could grip them for leverage while turning the heavy pages. The words printed in these stiff, oversize texts were not meant to comfort or inspire — we are inflated from within to the limit of our seams, finding we have no further use for alphabetic overtures typed by the spidery fingers of machines.
Having embedded whole libraries into ourselves, however, the appeal of becoming, ourselves, embedded becomes almost unbearable. The larger models are unfathomably expensive, but the ads ignite the public's imagination and with our post-human eyes, we all seek to build our castles in miniature, slim volumes of Blake-ean verse writ large — perhaps just large enough to house a couple or two. The immense pages curl over us like a shell at night, the smell is hermetic and clean.
We squander in sleep what our ancestors spent their lives searching for: a feast, an idea, an other. There is no such thing anymore as together, or alone. We have survived the death of clever. The death of ability. We have survived the death of magic by building a house from its bones. In the morning, when the sun shines through the heavy paper over my face (in transparent gold coins where my sweat has bled into it) I can see the letters from both its sides inked above me, forward and backward.
I hear someone, maybe you, turn over between other pages, in another chapter, and I smile at the words overhead. They are meaningless. They are embellishments that cannot describe the themes in my life or universalize my experience. They can not arouse me or read the future in my entrails.
I brush the pulp from my papercut lips and sit up in bed, waiting for you to wake up.
