So, while we're all trying to fight one of the other terrible "think of the children" bills trying to ram its way through Congress, KOSA, we should also be talking about The EARN IT Act.
Long story short, it's basically yet another surveilance bill using a "protect the children" bill, as a hideous meat-suit, putting restrictions on sites that'll make them even more vicious towards NSFW content, creating a climate where using a VPN might be a crime, and they'll be creating a federal committee to decide how best to spy on us!
Long story long, well, the Linktree is right here.
Beyond the stuff in the Linktree, I urge you to directly contact your congresspeoples and tell them to kill this bill, especially if they're on the Judiciary Committee, which is currently marking up this bill.
The members of the committee are:
Dick Durbin, Illinois, Chairman
Dianne Feinstein, California
Sheldon Whitehouse, Rhode Island
Amy Klobuchar, Minnesota
Chris Coons, Delaware
Richard Blumenthal, Connecticut
Mazie Hirono, Hawaii
Cory Booker, New Jersey
Alex Padilla, California
Jon Ossoff, Georgia
Peter Welch, Vermont
Lindsey Graham, South Carolina, Ranking Member (Ugh)
Chuck Grassley, Iowa
John Cornyn, Texas
Mike Lee, Utah
Ted Cruz, Texas (Double-ugh)
Josh Hawley, Missouri
Tom Cotton, Arkansas
John Kennedy, Louisiana
Thom Tillis, North Carolina
Marsha Blackburn, Tennessee (she cosponsored the bill, so probably not)
So yeah, do what you can, even if it's just boosting this terrible, terrible danger we need to thwart.
And, I will add, as with my previous KOSA poster, this poster is officially, for the sake of spreading it, under a CC0 license.
Feel free to spread it, remix it, add links to the bottom, edit it to be about the other bad internet bills they’re pushing, use it as a meme format, do what you will but for gods’ sake get the word out!
...And yes, for the record I was thinking of the Judas Priest song when I came up with the tagline for this one.

stp is like the one game where ive played it and come out like, okay i clearly got the true correct ending! and then talked to my friends and they all thought other endings were the true ultimate and and like. could argue their case. and i could argue mine. like i just felt like what i got (leaving w her as ppl btw) was like, the natural only conclusion bc that was just entirely what my playthru built to. it was great realizing that i was wrong
RIGHT its so good at allowing you to make choices that feel satisfying and in line with the viewpoint you've developed on the game! i remember the developers talking in an interview of some kind about how they dislike the notion of a "bad end" in games - including endings like that encourages the player to guess at what they think the game wants them to do, rather than making an honest choice based on what the player themself wants to do. it doesn't allow for honest exploration if there's an arbitrarily right or wrong answer.
this ethos permeates the entirety of slay the princess. and it means that all the endings feel SO cathartic because they are a well-done culmination of your choices leading up to that point. like you said, they can all feel like a "correct" ending, because they all feel justified as a hopeful end to the narrative!

I genuinely wasn't expecting the enormous amount of statistical data linked and referenced in the #renewasacrew change.org petition, but damn.
I don't think Zaslav will walk back on this, but I do think there's a strong chance for another platform to pick it up-- in the modern streaming era we've seen it for Brooklyn 99, Community, Lucifer, The Expanse, One Day at a Time, and others, and that's not including shows that got final seasons (or even movies) well after their original airing, or classic shows that formed the blueprint for how this sort of pick-up could happen, or--
Well, okay, and also not counting that time enough people bugged the shit out of Arthur Conan Doyle that he finally threw his hands up and said FINE.
Anyway. Check out the data research embedded in the petition. In aggregate... it's pretty goddamn fishy that Zaslav decided this was a show to be cut. But it's a strong case as to why another platform should pick it up:

For the past months there has been a storm of bad internet bills this year, now it’s not just the EARN It Act or KOSA but now a bill just like EarnIt called STOP CSAM.
There has also been overwhelming support on KOSA with some news articles claiming that groups who once opposed KOSA supports it now.
It also now has 36 cosponsors with a group called Design it For US saying they are going to lobby for it to get more cosponsors to sign the bill in the senate in July along with pushing a markup for the bill.
This group is dedicated to protect children online which is a good thing but they also have huge misguided support for KOSA.
There are also bad pro censorship groups like NCOSE and The heritage foundation supporting this bill as well
KOSA was supposed to protect kids online but this will actually give state attorneys power to dictate what could be recommended for kids.
This is a huge issue because this will give bigots and transphobic people power to use this against lgbt and trans content censoring them entirely.
Major proof from this is that a far right group called the heritage foundation recently came out with this tweet. Last year they created an article stating why the support KOSA (KidsOnlineSafetyAct) and it’s not pretty at all.
/Warning/ if this stuff triggers you feel free to skip this part until you see a green check mark
TW: Transphobia
Tumblr media
Some groups that support KOSA claims that the state attorney stuff in the legislation has been “watered down” and that all concerns are “addressed”
but it’s kinda hard to believe when you have groups that have these kinds of dangerous and close minded views behind statements on how they are gonna use this particular bill to censor content from groups of people they hate.
Also, support was so huge that Dove is also advocating for it with Lizzo https://www.fightforthefuture.org/actions/tell-lizzo/
Tumblr media
Also if you want more information and facts on why KOSA may not be a good idea. You can find more info here https://fair.org/home/these-bills-will-make-children-less-safe-
Meanwhile a few senators are trying to push the EarnIt act along with its sister bill called STOP CSAM. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2023/04/stop-csam-act-would-put-security-and-free-speech-risk
While stopping csam is a great idea, these bills are bad for privacy and increase government surveillance. It’s also a section 230 carve out and will hurt creativity and free speech and expression. It’s also dangerous for everyone in a lot of ways. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/2023/06/15/lgbtq-earn-it-act-risks-online/70247956007/
Please everyone, call your senators and tell them to oppose these bad internet bills!
( I’m sorry guys if this is badly made I’m currently rushing, I will be updating this post more and adding in more information)

Can we kill the whole “no attention on artwork is sad and means it was a waste of time” thing? Like Seriously can we kill it. I put a fuckton of effort into my art and it usually gets like, 10 likes, and that doesn’t really matter to me bc I love making it. I’m grateful for nice comments, but I’m gonna keep making the stuff I make regardless.
Like ok I’m not trying to sound all holier than thou here, but the amount of artists online who say stuff like “this artwork was a flop, so I’m feeling really discouraged” is making me go crazy. Is that all it is for you guys? Content? When you’re making artwork are you just making content for an audience? No offence but I feel like that’s a huge fucking waste of time, way more than making art you like and getting minimal attention on it.

So, I've talked about these bad bipartisan internet bills in the US Senate before, which all more or less boil down to "censorship in the name of Protect The Childrens," but I think it's important now more than ever to boost efforts to fight them because, as of today (5/9/2023), there's a major push planned by the folks lobbying for these bills, and we need to push back.
Thusly, here's a propaganda poster with the URL of the main hub to fight against those bills.
As a primer on said internet bills for those who don't know:
KOSA- Aims to create a "duty of care" towards minors that would de-facto mandate incredibly intrusive age gating via drivers' licenses or fucking face scanning to identify said minors, and would likely lead to lots of censorship. Extremely dangerous right now because the people who want it are pushing hard, and it's got a depressing amount of bipartisan support due to the Protect The Children thing shutting off people's brains.
EARN IT- Will remove Section230 for sites that supposedly let CSAM exist on their servers for too long, which might sound good until you remember the inherent difficulties in moderating that on big social media sites that means what they're asking is literally impossible and also the fact that the last time they tried something like this we got FOSTA-SESTA and its associated censorship wave. Extremely dangerous because it's passed out of committee
RESTRICT ACT- The "ban TikTok" bill that basically gives the us government carte-blanche to censor foreign sites they don't like.
STOP CSAM ACT- A similar act to KOSA and EARN IT that is pretty directly designed to weaken encryption, which is dangerous for any marginalized folks especially in a post-Roe era
Beyond the hub for action, badinternetbills.com, if you're in the US, I urge you to call your senators, especially if they're on the Commerce Committee, given that's the one currently looking at KOSA, and even if you can't, boost this to those that can.
And, as per usual with these propaganda posters, this poster is officially, for the sake of spreading it, under a CC0 license. Feel free to spread it, remix it, add links to the bottom, use it as a meme format, do what you will but for gods' sake get the word out!

The language within KOSA has no been updated so that it's worse than before. It will allow for queer content to be censored more freely and threatens end to end encryption the same way the EARN IT act does. [Link to a video about it]
To quote the video "this has gone from a horrible bill to a nightmare bill."
KOSA will be going to markup Tomorrow, on Thursday, July 27th. Call your senators tomorrow. This can't wait any longer.
[Here's the link tree for the petitions and calling. There is a call script]
Boost this and share this information! Reblog it!

EARN IT ACT BILL 2023: LAST SHOT TO STOP IT FROM HITTING THE SENATE FLOORS!
UPDATE: the #EarnItAct has passed the judiciary committee, meaning that next it goes to the Senate floor. BUT Chuck Schumer can decide not to bring it to a vote, so CALL HIS OFFICE along with your own senators and tell him not to put these bills on the floor. -Amarisllis on Twitter, source
Tumblr media
🚨The #EarnItAct is not only back but on the Senate floor. This bill completely destroys Section 230 and encryption. One of the *only* hopes for stopping this is blasting
@SenSchumer's office and telling him DO NOT PUT IT ON THE FLOOR (202) 224-6542 Call script in next tweet 👇
Tumblr media
Quote Tweeting: As a reminder, the #EarnItAct creates a national politically appointed commission filled with law enforcement and fundamentalist christian groups to dictate what is and isn't allowed online in the name of "child safety". It has bipartisan support.
Underneath the Quote Tweets: The same way trans people are being banned from existing, how LGBT books are banned, the way black history simply isn't even being allowed to be taught, is how this commission filled with LAW ENFORCEMENT and HATE GROUPS is going to force the whole internet to work -Lovingtaeonmain on Twiter
