wanted to come clean about something real quick, i am annoying about canon all the time
however, i will never tolerate fic slander, ive dropped thousands of fics at this point cause i dont agree with the characterization in the same way i dont agree with some artists' renditions, but thats people spending their time writing something they love so "this fandom has horrible fics" is a shitty thing to say always

stupid mha fanfic that will probably never be finished
A boy sat on a ledge. This had been going for too long, hadn't it? he was a hopeless dreamer, he knew, but it still hurt when All Might told him. A hero needs a quirk, he had said. He had hoped once, but hope is a useless thing, as useless as a line without a hook when it comes to dreams. So he sat there, waiting, waiting for all his classmates and teachers to finally leave the building. He was tired, he was tired and oh so done with society, but he wasn't heartless. He knew they would find his body anyways but he would rather they don't see him jump, he couldn't bear the idea of his innocent classmates watching him die.
He woke up in a dimly lit room. why... why was he alive? How? his whole body hurt. he couldn't be in a hospital, he'd been hospitalized before and this didn't look like a hospital room, actually, this place was rather grim-looking, where the hell was he? The sound of steps interrupted his frantic thoughts.
the door opened.
"Oh.. you're awake" a croaky voice spoke. the man in the doorway approached him. his eyes widened in fear, was.. was that a hand in his face?? was it his hand? what if it wasn't??.
"Hey, don't be afraid," the man said, the way he spoke, the way his voice sounded. It only made it worse. "I have a little offer for you"

The school year at UA had started not too long ago, which sucked because his childhood "best friend" had gone missing. the police had found blood near their old middle school, his blood, but his body had completely vanished. Most of his old class believed him dead, suicide they had said, his family and Inko believed he was kidnapped. He didn't know what to believe.
He didn't want to believe either.

"so... you want me to join your.. gang" Izuku spoke, well, it was more of a question really, and the other man, Shigaraki, had understood as much.
"you could put it that way" He was sitting in a chair next to Izuku's bed. He had explained how they had saved him and why. He, a quirkless middle schooler, was useful to a gang of villains, well, a league of villains.
"do you accept?" he couldn't not do it, if he refused they would kill him, and he had already chosen that he didn't want to die anymore, he now had a reason to be, a purpose. He nodded.

When most of his wounds healed and he was no longer bedridden he was allowed to explore the place he had been taken into. He had found that the hall in which his room was located led to a small bar of the underground. The bartender, Kurogiri, was a rather nice man with a portal quirk, it was thanks to him that Izuku found out that he had been unconscious for over three months. It was in his fourth month with The League when they started training him.
Not only were quirkless people almost completely out of the way of the law (because most laws were specifically made for quirk users), but they were also thought of as useless, harmless, and worthless by the rest of society. Legally speaking, they couldn't even be considered villains, so having a quirkless teen trained to become an expert hero assassin was definitely something that The League wanted.
His training consisted on getting more agile, stronger and to have a faster reaction time, because you know, he'll be fighting pro heros soon and it was not fair how they fought with their quirks against weaker and stupid quirkless people. Izuku wasnt stupid, and he wasnt weak either, at least not now. He had never thought on learning how to fight because no matter what he did a quirked person would always win against him

I’m surprised that there are not more My Hero Academia/ X-Man crossovers. Quirks and mutations ring very similar bells in my head.
The x-men could very easily be fitted into the slot of early quirk Bullshit that fanfics love talking about.
For my final note: you can not tell me that Wolverine and Eraserhead don’t give off the exact same “why is there a feral homeless man in the school” vibes.

Summary:

aka dabi finds himself falling ass over teakettle into an alternate reality where him, hawks, and shigaraki were taken in by the commission. hawks continued as a big name prohero, but dabi and shigaraki become underground heroes who form their own little vigilante group. a new perspective may change his thoughts on a lot of things (one big thing being his thoughts on a particular bird themed hero).

Right, it makes me more :/ that Endeavor didn’t push through his angst to check up on Hawks after the war. I feel like Hawks backstory would have been better if it was told to Endeavor rather than a dream. Does canon!Endeavor even know?
i talked about this once but i don't really want to dig it up so... i think it's pretty pertinent to the circumstance that endeavor didn't ask if hawks' ok.
the thing is canon endeavor sees and treats hawks as his fellow colleague, not his son, not his subordinate, not some child he should protect or worry about. like, endeavor actually sees hawks for who he is: a capable hero; and he shows his respect for hawks in his own way. that's from endeavor's side.
from hawks' side, he's resourceful and overcommitted. the first thing he did after getting out of the hospital was check the current situation of the worls, check his mom, check the hpsc, mourn twice, then bring his ass back to the hospital to check on endeavor and ofa. i mean, he didn't let his sentiment get in his way or burden others. i have the feeling that hawks is uncomfortable to think himself as the victim, but that aside, endeavor has his contemporary issues and no way hawks would burden him more with his problems, even if it's endeavor proactively asks first or hawks presents himself as weary and pathetic. he probably didn't even want to be worried about by endeavor.
that and that, in a situation where everyone is equally fucked, if one clearly shows that they don't need care or concern at the moment and the others see that, understand that, then it's common sense to not mention or pry further about the matter. they can always address it later, when one has done solving his family issues and the other find it comfortable to open up, and when the day is safe.
again, hawks is not a child, and endeavor clearly respects hawks enough to not overstep the boundary. it's not about endeavor was so deep-headed in his shit that he overlooked hawks. if you base it on their canon relationship and the situations, it's actually a mutual respect with a pinch of generation gap.

whenever I imagine story plots involving romance of any kind, I always imagine the mc absolutely not picking up what is being put down. oblvious bordering on autistic cause that's how I am with romance. and the only way mc actually finally gets it, I when love interest grabs them (consentually) and shakes them while yelling their intentions at them. I want more of this in fanfiction. more autistic coded mcs / love interests where the only way they will reciprocate romantic affection is if you look them dead in the eyes and "kiss me goddammit!"

Honestly it's not surprising in the least as to why anti bkdks think Horikoshi is such a bad writer as well. They never actually give his writting a chance to be it's own thing. They either want it their way, or another mangaka's way. Basically:
Story is not conventional/not similar enough to other shonens? Bad writing bc others did it like this, so why couldn't he.
Didn't happen the way i want, abt what i want? Bad writing bc i know better abt the manga than the author does.
Something shonen-conventional happened when i didn't want to? Bad writing bc it's overdone and generic.
This is the kinda of thing that makes bnha hate common. Big part of the community doesn't want to let go of shit or develops a sense of entitlement over the story, so when their projetctions don't go according to plan, it MUST be Horikoshi's failing.

Anytime I see someone say "Horikoshi has bad writing" I think of a couple of things. Are you saying that because...
It's not writing you're used to? Even so, doesn't make it bad writing.
It's not catering to your ships? Again, doesn't make it bad writing.
Personally, I'm fine with Horikoshi's writing. Is it perfect? That I won't have an answer to because WHY DOES WRITING HAVE TO PERFECT TO BE ENJOYABLE?! Better yet, what is actual perfect writing?
There's never an answer to that.
Flaws are fine, they can be learned from.
I firmly believe that "perfect" needs to be replaced with "enjoyable".
But enough with that!
People tend to forget that they don't own the damn story. Every single bit belongs to Horikoshi, from the characters to the jokes.
"I know the character better than the author".
Whether you want to admit it or not, it's because of that author you even got the characters and ships.
And that Horikoshi isn't obligated to cater to the ships people want.
If today, Horikoshi says "Bakudeku is canon", guess what? It's canon. And if antis hate that, so be it. He is not obligated to write the ships they want because it is HIS story.
They really do need let go of that mentality. Let go of that damn entitlement.

(pls feel free to ignore this ask if you want) i think Dabi's story is like 99% over at this point in bnha anyway. Anything else will just be (shitty imo) todofam closure for like one page or panel. And there are more people than you think that had lots of issues with the nuances in Dabi's writting, it's just that all of them dropped bnha too lol. Bllk being so silly/weird and "harmless" is a breath of fresh air after the bad and needless mess that bnha is.
Yeah, I think the big "resolution" is over too. Next you might get to see glimpses of the recovery process, but that part of the plot is pretty much wrapped up.
But anyway, I know there were others who shared similar views as mine, but between people dropping the series, the harassment of those who weren't jumping for joy at the writing, the harassment from villain haters, and the general shifting in fanon lore/preferences from the 2019/early 2020 fandom all kind of... Added up for me. I felt like if I shared my opinions I would either be flamed for being "eh" about canon, or ignored cause "canon sucks". There was very little in between, at least in my corner of the fandom.
Frankly speaking I don't miss it.
Bnha was super fun for several years for me, otherwise I wouldn't have written so much meta and fics for it, but towards the end it just wasn't an environment where I felt relaxed anymore
Being a much smaller and less mainstream fandom, blue lock is what I needed to just... See a story that's silly and go "this is fun" :')

How many works do you have on AO3?
21! Which is, a lot more than I thought tbh. I've been writing these long, long fics for so many years now that I've sort of forgotten about all the little ones I've managed in between. And even the long ones add up after a while. Though, I did only import a small selection of my fics from ff.net, so the back catalogue of stuff I've actually written is way longer. ... That's fine, some of that stuff can stay buried lol.
Even at 21 though... *Looks at my shoebox of story ideas and outlines* Its... its still not enough. Its, its just no where close to even making a dent in everything I want to write eventually.
What’s your total AO3 word count?
650,444. I'm pretty sure at least half of that is entirely in CC, and another quarter is in can i bleed. Which, tbh I'm not sure how I feel about that lol. Deeply introspective fics, my passion, my talent, my beloathed. Some part of me does miss simply writting 5k chapters and calling it done for a week. Not all of me though.

Only 10! That number probably isn't going to grow much either. I tend to gravitate towards bigger projects these days rather than simple oneshots or even like, 5 chapter long stuff, so I tend to go all in on a small number of fandoms instead of spreading my attention around, even though I want to.

A Most Precious Thing (Tsubasa): tbh this being number one is an absolute surprise, though I'm very happy about it. According to AO3, this was published almost 10 years ago, will be 10 years exactly in just a few weeks, but people still regularly give it kudos and comments. It was a complete experiment, style wise; I'd never written anything like it before, I've written one thing like it since, and I'm just so thankful that people loved it so much despite the inexperience behind it.
Of the Woods (Teen Wolf/CCS): This being so high up is not a surprise, and I'm annoyed about it. Mostly bc I know its only so high up bc its for such a big fandom, written during said fandom's height. I think its probably one of the fic I've soured the most on since I wrote it; its just not that great.
Crests Corrupted (Digimon) : Oh, here it is. My masterpiece. Maybe its weird to say that of the fic that's only 3rd, but it truly is, and to see a fic I have put so much of myself into being even this high and this appreciated means so much to me.
can i bleed within your love (Persona 3) : Hi! I don't have much to say about this one, only that I'm so happy with the sheer outpouring of love this has gotten, and I can't wait to finish it.
True Feelings Chocolate (Digimon) : Oh, um, I sort of forgot about you. What are you doing here? ...This is awkward, I really didn't expect this to do so well. Its just a silly little fic I wrote for valentine's one year. I'm glad it did well?
Do you respond to comments?
I try! I don't succeed a lot of the time; generally I'm very tired after posting a chapter and then its been like two weeks and responding feels awkward. Also I tend to ramble, if you haven't noticed yet, some sometimes I'll just close out of responding to avoid any chance of me accidentally spoiling or saying something I shouldn't. I'm... working on it.
What’s the fic with the angstiest ending you’ve ever written?
Oh that's easy. Its the RWBY one, Your Love on Your Sleeve and Your Pain Buried Deep. I don't tend to write angsty fics, I like happy endings, I think this is the only one I've ever written and I'm glad to keep it that way.
Do you write crossovers?
I've written one before, the TW one that's up there. I generally tend to prefer fusions over straight up crossovers; I've gotten several P3 fusions planned, a PJ fusion, the bnha fic I wrote is a fusion. I just, I love fusions. I greatly prefer writing them over cross-overs generally.
Have you ever gotten hate on a fic?
Once or twice, but that was ages ago and I've mostly blocked it from my memory. The fandoms I'm in now have been full of such lovely people, I've been really lucky.
Do you write smut?
Smut, as in the fic happens to have a sex scene? Not typically, but I'm not against doing so when the need calls. Smut, as in the entire point of the fic in the sex scene? No. I'm actually very bad at it. I'll do it if I must but I find even writing kiss scenes awkward, let alone everything else. I will gladly leave it to people much better at their craft them I am.
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
To the best of my knowledge? No I don't think so.
Have you ever had a fic translated?
I've had people offer? I don't know if they ever did or even if, in my general ineptitude when it comes to responding to people, I actually agreed they could.

What’s your all-time favorite ship?

Hmmm, well, after much thinking I'm gonna go with Kurogane/Fai from TRC. Other ships may currently have their hooks in my brain, but kurofai is a big comfort to me still, I really love them. And lets be honest. Ain't no one doing it like those two.
What’s a WIP that you want to finish, but don’t think you ever will?
I have, its not posted anywhere, and technically I've barely started writing it, its almost entirely outline rn, but I do have a p3 fantasy au thats just... fucking massive. Its a huge project just from the outline i have, long even in comparison to CC, so long that I doubt I'd ever finish it to the point where I've barely started it.
What are your writing strengths?
Combat. I write a damn good fight scene and I know it. I take a lot of pride in that. I also tend to have a pretty solid grasp of pacing on an overall level for longer fics. Per chapter pacing gets a bit more eh, but the overall pacing of arcs and stuff for my longer fics, I generally know what I'm doing.
What are your writing weaknesses?
I never know when to shut the fuck up! This is a problem I've known I've had for years. I just let characters go on these long, internal monologues, which is only acceptable because I also write deeply introspective fics. However, it tends to slow chapters down a lot and after a bit, characters repeat themselves and its a problem.
What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fics?
I'm incapable bc I'm monolingual but I've always loved fics that use other languages! Maybe I can do that some day lol.
What was the first fandom you ever wrote for?
Yknow, if I dug far far far back in my ff.net account it would probably be Naruto? I think. My memory is fuzzy and I'm not actually going to go look. However, thats the first one I posted.
The *very* first fic i ever wrote, I have a very clear memory of for some reason. It was a FFX2/Series of Unfortunate Events crossover, I was in the fourth grade, I thought it was the coolest thing. Hm, memories.
What’s your favorite fic you’ve written so far?
I actually have two answers for this, which, I know is against the spirit and rule of the question BUT. Too bad.
One is A Most Precious Thing, bc it was such an experience to write. Despite being 10 years old I still love it. It was, as I said above, an utter experiment. It is written entirely in 2nd person, which is not actually a choice? I made? Um, I tried, very hard in the beginning, to write in in my standard 3rd, and it didn't work. The story actively refused to be written as such and I kept ending up back in 2nd. And at some point I just gave up and wrote the rest of it as such. And it taught me, so much, about point of view and how that relates to emotional distance, and really, but trusting myself with my writing, that even if I can't say why this is happening, somewhere deep down there is a reason to it and I should trust that. As a writer who takes my craft very seriously, this one has a soft spot in my heart bc of all of that.
However, Crests Corrupted owns a piece of my soul that I will never get back. It is my thesis, my masterpiece, It has defined years of my life, I have poured hundreds of thousands of words into it, I have given it so much of my heart and my pain. It has redefined how I approach writing, it has shaped, totally, the style in which I write today. Even years from now, even years after I finally finish it whenever that is, I don't think I will ever be truly free of it. It is my favorite. How can't it be?

You're a pro hero and man it was worth it! All the years of training and studying were worth it. You wanted to give up so many times but now you were finally living the life you deserved! You wore a custom-made Gucci dress. The gown was made of baby pink satin and had a deep neckline. You wore matching satin gloves to finish the look, and you wore your hair down. You had a champagne glass in your right hand and occasionally took a sip from it. You enjoyed life, and you were finally rich! You had a luxurious mansion, a lavish car, and the wardrobe of your dreams. You were walking around the ballroom curious to meet new faces, you were at an event to celebrate how many wins All might had. All might approached you, "Thank you so much for coming. I have heard a lot of positive things about you!" He exclaimed, you smiled at him "I am honored to be here." you responded and watched how he made small talk with all the pro heroes. You rolled your eyes when he left. You didn't care about the civilians you saved, it was simple they needed a "hero" and you needed your paycheck. If it wasn't for the money you wouldn't have wasted your time. Someone bumped into you spilling champagne all over your gown. The look of shock on their faces turns into guilt. "I am so sorry, let me help you!" Your gown was ruined and the only way he could make it up to you was by paying you the price you paid for it. "It's fine really, don't worry," you say with a reassuring smile as you turn around and ignore the fact that all the pro heroes are now staring at you. You go to the washroom and change into another dress (the perks of being rich). You take your ruined dress and toss it in a laundry bag. When you leave the bathroom you hear a familiar voice. You look up and realize it's the stranger who ruined your dress. You see him for the first time and he's quite handsome, tall, muscular body and blond hair. "I am Taishiro Toyomitsu, my hero name is Fat Gum. I wanna apologize again. Tell me how can I make it up to you? I'll do anything!"
How it started:
It had been well over 3 months since that night and surprisingly you and Taishiro have gotten a lot closer. You felt dumb for not recognising him in his fat less form or the fact that he was the Fat Gum when he introduced himself that night. You remembered when you were still in high school that he saved you once from a villain infiltration at your school. You had to jump from the two story building because of a fire that had broken out. You expected that day to be your last and that you’ll never be able to become a rich and successful hero, but when you opened your eyes you saw that Fat Gum had caught you safely. And ever since that day you’ve been seeing the hero society in a different light (or at least you tried). He met up with you after that party and paid you back for ruining your expensive dress but you decided to grab your chance and asked him for his number too. This caught him by surprise but he still gave you his number with a smile. You would lie if you said that you hadn’t developed a crush on him. He was very sweet and respectful. Now you guys would go out almost every week. He would take you to his favourite restaurants around Tokyo and you were completely in love.
“Y/n have you heard of this restaurant it’s very underrated but I’m sure you’ll love it!” Taishiro says with an excited grin on his face. You could notice by the fact that he had lost a lot of fat that he had been fighting villains all day so you were more than glad to join him for dinner this evening. You wanted him to have some fun and relax a bit from all the hero work, and what better way to do that than with food? You also couldn’t ignore the fact that he looked very handsome today, he was wearing a matte black skinny one-button suit and his hair was slicked back, you were guessing that he just came from an important event. After a ten-minute drive Taishiro pulls up in a parking spot and tells you that you both have to walk the rest which you didn’t mind at all. He stops in front of a fancy-looking restaurant, you look at Taishiro with a confused expression. Normally he would take you to more casual places, like all-you-can-eat restaurants or hidden spots that were popular among the locals. “Are we at the right place?” You ask dumbfounded. Even though you were wearing a beautiful dusty pink satin dress you still felt like you were underdressed for this restaurant. Taishiro laughs and gives you a nod “this is the place I wanted to take you for a while now.” He says. “But it was impossible to book a reservation.” You laugh “so it isn’t underrated at all.” He shakes his head with a smug smile, he lied to you. “Let’s head in.” He says grabbing your hand and entering the restaurant. A waiter guides you both to your reserved table and Taishiro pulls your seat back for you to sit. You smile at his gentlemanly gesture. “Wow” you mutter trying to take the situation in. “Is there a particular reasons why you’ve decided to spoil me today?” You ask feeling all giddy inside. He gives you a childish smile before shaking his head, indicating that he is blatantly lying to you. “Let’s worry about my intentions later, the foods on this menu are to die for.” He says grabbing the menu and showing you all the things he wants you to try. Soon enough you’ve both made your minds up and decide to order. While waiting for your food you couldn’t help but question Taishiro. “So you’ve decided to get dressed like this just so you could take me out?” He smiles and gives you a nod. “Why? Do you think I look good? Have you fallen for me already?” You blush at his words. If only he knew how much you liked him. “Why didn’t you tell me that we were going to this fancy restaurant, I feel so underdressed.” You confess slightly embarrassed trying to avert the topic. “What do you mean?” He says with narrowed eyes. “Y/n you look absolutely stunning and I didn’t think I had to tell you because you literally look like a goddess every single day.” He says with a frown, not understanding that you couldn’t see that yourself. Your eyes widen at his words and you feel a blush creep on your face. “Wait that sounds a bit...” Taishiro mutters embarrassed, his face turning red. “You get what I mean!” He let’s out defensively. “No I don’t actually.” You say teasing him. He looked very cute all flustered. Suddenly the waiter interrupted your moment, as he served your food.
You were both quickly distracted by the food and started eating and sharing your food and opinions with each other. You both had so much fun that before you knew it the waiter arrived with the bill and like the rich gentleman Taishiro was he paid for it. “I had so much fun today.” You say with a content smile. “Me too.” Taishiro hums in agreement. “Oh, and you haven’t told me why you spoiled me today.” You say stopping in your tracks as you turn to face him. You were both making your way to the parking lot while walking through the big bustling city of Tokyo. He places his hand on your shoulder and gives you a fond smile before moving closer to your ear “I wanted to take you out on a date because I like you a lot Y/n.”

I read this one a whiiiiiile back but its like, my fave fic ever, im not even into dresden files i have no idea what happens there but the characters are interesting and the way they all interact is super interesting, the supernatural elements really blend incredibly well and THE DUELS OMG, some yugioh fics dont bother writting duels or just do the minimun but the duels here actually serve a purpose and AUGH its just so good, the author has another 5ds/marvel crossover but i have not read that one yet LOL.

Behind him is another table with two chairs side-by-side. Parchment, various types of brushes, and several ink pots are neatly placed on the table as though he was about to start practicing calligraphy.
“Gege,” the demon says, his voice significantly deeper and happier than before, “I’ve done something good.”
Something about the words and the way they’re said feels achingly familiar; he’s searching for praise and doesn’t seem to care how obvious he is about it.
