Wesley asks Beverly about her relationship with Deanna, Beverly isn’t sure how to answer

Rewrite of the scene in season 3 episode 25 “Transfigurations” time stamp 18:00- 20:00

Beverly sat down to dinner with Wesley in their quarters.

"Y'know mom" the young ensign began, "I noticed you've been spending a lot of time with Troi" he looked at her from across the table, waiting for her response.

Beverly paused, "yes, Deanna and I have become good friends over the past few years" she chose her words carefully and looked her son in the eye as she spoke.

"She's very nice," Wesley prompted.

"She does have a certain charm, doesn't she?"

"You seem to have a special connection with her" Wesley looked at her with a childish grin on his face.

Beverly deliberately ignored where she thought he was going with this, "that could be said of anyone she's close to, and as a senior officer, I'm with her a lot of the time" Beverly paused before continuing "I guess find her and her empathic abilities intriguing"

"Seems like there's a bit more to it than that"

Wesley had a determined and sly look on his face that she recognized from her own persistence.

"Is this your way of asking me if I'm getting romantically involved with her?" Beverly asked, her head tilted and face smiling in amusement.

Wesley glance from his mothers face to anywhere else before fixing his eyes back on Beverly. "You said it, I didn't"

Beverly barely waited for her son to finish before replying "my feelings towards her aren't romantic" *that was a lie, such a lie, she couldn't lie to her son* "...exactly" she continued, trying to decide how much to tell him.

Wesley was looking more amused by the second, but he waited for his mom to finish.

"I mean, I know we work together a lot and, I often treat her injuries and she helps me work through things, both of which can create a false sense of intimacy, but this isn't that"

Wesley had stopped grinning and was now listening closely.

"There's an almost spiritual connection" Beverly sighed. *She had noticed a telepathic bond between Deanna and herself that had not been there a few weeks prior, but she assumed this was because they were becoming closer friends. Surely Deanna wasn't inadvertently reaching out to her.* "I guess I'm not making any sense am I?"

Wesley offered her a genuine smile, "I think I understand"

Beverly smiled fondly at her son and they ate their dinner.

I've been forgetting to share these here, but I did a flash fic challenge in February (well, still working on it technically), that including some fanfic! Here's the series I made for them, for your perusal.

So far, we have two Deanna/Beverly pieces, a Kira piece, a Miles piece, a Morgan/Garcia piece and a JJ/Prentiss peice. All except one are wee things but I like them quite a bit!
