Sunset Highway (Great Basin National Park) by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: At a roadside pullout just off Nevada Hwy 50 with a view looking to the southwest and the mountains in Great Basin National Park. This was one of several images I captured using the LCD screen on my Nikon SLR camera to line up the center stripe and road with the more distant ridges and peaks. It was as I began working on the image in post production that I then decided to once again try out the sky replacement setting in Photoshop with this image. The sunset and colors with the clouds seemed appropriate for this national park setting. So the skies are part of the Adobe stock images in Photoshop but all else is captured with my Nikon D850 SLR camera. I later worked with control points in DxO PhotoLab 5 and then made some adjustments to bring out the contrast, saturation and brightness I wanted for the final image.

"Really, you should show more of your fur, Ratigan. It's beautiful." Basil said, watching as the small patches of silver were illuminated by moonlight as they walked. It was mesmerizing, how well they mixed.

"Of course." Ratigan huffed, sarcastic. He was still panting slightly from the fight a few moments before, a light amount of blood splattered onto the rats side.

"No, truly, it reminds me of the moon." Basil smiled up at them. He held his hat in his hands, oddly unaffected by watching Ratigan physically fight a few difficult suspects.

For context, read the tags, and for more context, the suspects were rats who had gotten physical with Ratigan. He beat their ass, for lack of better words. Basil was hiding nearby watching at some points, he wouldn't have been useful in the fight and didn't want to get caught in the middle.

Welcome to Great Basin National Park by Mark Stevens Via Flickr: A setting looking to the west while taking in views across the Nevada high desert leading up to the ridges and peaks off in the distance in Great Basin National Park. This is at a roadside pullout along Nevada State Route 487. I took advantage of a slight rise from the roadside to create more of a sweeping view leading up to the mountains in the national park. That brought them higher into the image and hopefully helped to bring out more of a sense of grandeur and avoid any flattening.

Scotland Yard. Ratigan dreaded the place, the mice. Given his species, he was an outcast. It was a wonder he was able to get a job as an independent detective, or anything to do with law for that matter, at all. He had to fight tooth and nail to get where he is, ever since he was a small lad, he always fought. Fought to keep his dignity and then to get and keep his job. He’d crawled out of the sewers all on his lonesome and one case was not going to make him throw it all away. He would not throw away the fruits of his labor.

He had been summoned naught before the sun rose above the cobbled streets. He was rarely summoned directly, the Scotland Yard did not like being seen with him. A rat. The thought was bitter, acidic. But he was right. He was a lowly creature to them, a product of the lowest class, a sin. To be seen with a rat would be as much as being seen with another man. If not worse.

--- “We need your…expertise, for this case.” The chief said, careful with his words. Calculating. Ratigan dwarfed the mouse easily, as he did every other mouse he’d come across. They still spoke to him as if he was a rabid animal, tip toeing through, afraid that he would rip the throats from their bodies. He supposed it was a valid concern.

“On the sewers?” Ratigan questioned, quirking a brow. He looked uninterested, passive, as he always did. There was a certain melancholy behind his eyes, always visible, gained through years of hardships. He’d only seen one or two mice with the same look.

“Yes, exactly. The…sewer society. You’re the only…person I know that would be aware of it.” He answered, a nervous smile on his face, hands in a ball in front of him. He occasionally rubbed his hands together, a nervous thing, it was. As was he.

“Mmm.” Ratigan hummed in response, cocking his head downward slightly to glare the chief in the eyes. It was his way of telling him to continue. Though, all it did was put him more on edge, tripping over his words more often. It was peculiar, laughable, how the chief could be afraid of a rat in the safety of the Scotland Yard, of his own office.

“I-I don’t mean anything by it! I just…you know. You’re the only rat we have contact with and grew up down there. I can’t send a down a mouse; they would be killed!” The chief said, stammering for a while before regaining his bearings. Ratigan sighed, heavy, brief, inhaling sharply through his nose.
