I started watching Bluey and when I say I was absolutely fucking ENLIGHTENED.

Me, after watching one (1) episode: OH….I UNDERSTAND NOW…..

I have to ask. I'm not that far into watching House MD but my god these bitches are gay. My question is, what is the context here for the piss kink? Like is that. Really canon. If you have the time I'd love to hear an explanation of evidence
Good morning, babes, bros, and nonbinary hos of the jury.
Firstly, welcome to Queerbait, The Show, The Musical, The Original. I hope you enjoy your stay in Gay Doctorland.
Now, if I might move onto the first item of evidence: EXHIBIT A.
Aka, the classic House MD drinking game of 'take a shot eevry time House and Wilson have a drawn-out discussion while standing next to each other, pissing, at the urinals'
Now EXHIBIT B: a certain episode where House's drug use starts to affect his kidneys, causing urinary retention. How does Wilson react when House finally comes to him with big sad eyes, pleading for help? Well, obviously he smirks and delights in House's pee-holding agony, refusing to give him any diuretics because he wants to teach House a 'lesson' about drug abuse in a typically Housian fucked up and kinda dangerous way because he figures hey, it's omorashi time
Later the same episode, we have House dreaming of pissing himself in front of his colleagues and wetting the bed, which is shown to be a massive, euphoric relief & release.... Love that for my gay bitchy doctor. Love it.
AND LEST I FORGET, the self-catheterisation scene where House lubes up a catheter, slides it into himself, and makes the most wretched little moans.... Hugh Laurie acted his tight little butt off to give us a cranky old doctor keening softly as he feeds a catheter into his dick, and honestly, we're all grateful.
FINALLY we come to EXHIBIT C: the episode where House and Wilson encourage a patient's partner to drink her piss while they just. Sit there. And watch. Just medical malpractice boyfriends doing medical malpractice boyfriend things xxx
Doubtlessly, there are another dozen or so Incidents that I forgot - but suffice to say, folks of the jury, I think you will find this evidence satisfactory.

I have a few thoughts about the Winchesters finale, and though I wasn’t gonna weigh in on this, it turns out I needed to write this down to get it out of my head, so here we go.
I understand that Misha was approached to be included on the show and that there was a “scheduling conflict” that included multiple conversations with Jensen. Here’s my interpretation of that:
I believe Cas was supposed to make a cameo in episode 13 to tee up the confession resolution—this was always the episode where they were going to crack open the “surprise twist” even before learning they would only get 13 episodes total. In the original scenario, episode 13 would have been the hellatus episode rather than a finale, leaving room for everything to come to a head with episode 22 instead. It’s then they would have given us the actual Dean and Cas reunion. This would have wrapped both stories nicely with each group going off into their own respective sunsets—their own happy endings, while still leaving all the room for the new crew to explore more seasons; all along, we see, The Winchesters was about Dean and Cas as much as it was about Mary and John.
When they didn’t get the back half of the season picked up, I assume they feared it would be more dangerous to show a Cas cameo without getting to address the confession, so Misha likely opted to be left out instead. With the only hint to Cas being Dean’s line that he was looking for his family when he found the Akrida, then directly drawing the parallel that Jack and Bobby were “family.” The core crew for Dean has always been Bobby, Sam, Jack, AND Cas. And he wasn’t looking for Sam because he was still on earth. So who’s left? You might be compelled to believe he was window shopping AU versions of his parents, but he confirms he ran into the Akrida in this world and then sought to interfere with the order by approaching John in an effort to prevent it from spreading to Sam's world. (Why Cas would be AU hopping, idk. The boy is really afraid of being shot down, I guess.)
It goes far to explain the vast narrative parallels we saw reflected in the Monster Club crew if it was intended as a setup for the confession payoff. It honestly doesn’t make a lot of sense otherwise. There’s no reason these people should be living Dean's experiences and regrets every episode unless the writers wanted the viewer to be thinking about the lessons and resolutions in how they relate to Dean too.
Additionally, as this has been a largely uncontested take, this is Jensen's well-funded fanfic come to life. Complete with the embracing of many of our favorite fanfic tropes and emphasized by Dean’s own words throughout the season. Because this is an obvious embrace of that “write your own story” fan side, I believe the reason Dean couldn’t even say Cas’ name in the episode is because they were going to change the spelling from “Cass” as it was in the show proper to the fan-adopted (and more accurate) spelling of “Cas,” which would have appeared in the subtitles and later the script pages.  And even that little thing right there would have been a huge giveaway to the whole game. And a very dangerous thing to do if there wasn’t going to be enough time for follow-through.
But the truth is, this isn’t a game for many people, and the harm that can be caused by good intentions is just as real. It also begs the question: why should this be so difficult? The answer is it’s not. Edging forever isn’t fun. It’s torture. I understand there’s an art to storytelling, but your audience is weary, and trust has been violated too many times. Even still, the flip side of that coin is honest to god respect for DeanCas endgame means taking the story and the reveal seriously. It’s a tightrope walk. And one that Robbie somehow managed to keep balanced after the finale, without it falling either way.  Also we also need to consider the possibility that Jensen did pitch a full-on destiel love story spin-off but got shot down, opting to couch it in a more CW-branded world instead. He’s mentioned over half a dozen pitches were rejected. It's up to you whether you want to give him the benefit of the doubt on that.
But, I’m gonna be honest here, I don’t know that we will ever get that resolution we crave. Even Robbie confirmed The Winchesters were always meant to “go it alone” after the first season. It’s hard to imagine Dean popping in there to fuck around again after that handoff. But the dude is clearly a very restless sea-faring*, swoopy-haired mofo right now, so I’ll leave that one up to the SPN multiverse and the new Mr. Superwholock’s magical universe-traveling impala. (This show used to be about what again? *looks at notes*.) And FWIW, if they do get green-lit for a whole second season or are allowed to move networks, I believe a good-faith effort will be made to tie the narrative parallels we saw in season one to some real Dean and Cas resolution. If there gets to be a world where John *might* not turn into an abusive dick, then this possibility has to be true too.
For the record, I enjoyed The Winchesters, all the new characters, and the doors the finale opened for the possibility of more. I would have been fine half-watching it with no promises, empty head no thoughts, but I got my clown** suit on again, and though I mostly kept quiet, unlike last time, I did regrettably manage to drag a few friends down with me yet again.  Though the spec sessions were epic, and we did get some art out of it—it still rocks the boat when the base level expectations were only 1. Dean alive, and 2. seeing Cas again.
But for anyone, like me, upset by the (likely unintentional) Cas-baiting or anyone still reeling about why this stuff can hit so hard, here’s an interesting article about the way our brains respond to fictional characters. Tl;dr: There’s nothing wrong with you. This is science. And while you’re at it, take a look at this article about the very real power of disenfranchised grief over character loss.
Ramble on, fam. And take care of yourselves.
<3 Jackie
*Um hi he appears as a sailor? Literally, on a show with a story Dean is writing whose audience is looking for a resolution to a conversation between two people who’re famously the “most shipped” characters of all time? That’s not an accident. That’s intentional. And it’s another reason why there might be a bitter taste in your mouth. These nods came without resolution, so it still feels dirty, despite the brilliant Easter egg.
**I hesitate to say “clown” here because the lesson on episode 12 was that the clowns were the ones who chose a self-induced limbo rather than face some personal hard revelations. That sounds more like a certain closeted character than it does the people cheering him on, and that felt like an intentional nod too.
***obviously, this is my own rambling spec as I try to reorder my thoughts in the wake of the finale.

"Does it make sense?"
I think, ultimately, the thing that it comes down to for why I just can't see "the Jedi are intentionally written as dogmatic/dispassionate" or "Obi-Wan failed Anakin" or "the Jedi brought their own downfall" reads as valid anymore is because... it makes no sense that George Lucas - of all people - would write that.
Like, this is the guy who preaches the same lessons and philosophies that the Jedi do in the Prequels, every chance he gets (sometimes going all the way back to American Graffiti).
So ask yourself:
Does it make sense that he would intentionally make the characters to whom he gave his own values "dogmatic"?
He's a self-proclaimed "methodist-Buddhist". The Jedi are based on Buddhist monks.
youtube
Does it make sense that the buddhist would write a story about space-buddhists being "emotionless", "devoid of compassion" and "at fault for their own genocide"?
Lucas had an apprenticeship, that turned into a friendly/brotherly bond with his mentor Francis Ford Coppola. Their personalities were completely opposite (Coppola was more outgoing, George was more prudent) but they worked in sync, they completed each other.
youtube
Do you really think that this guy's intended narrative would be that "Qui-Gon would've been better-suited for Anakin as a teacher than Obi-Wan because the latter was prudent/strict and too different from the more passionate Anakin"?
George lays Anakin's downfall on Anakin's shoulders almost every time he talks about it. It's a corruption that was caused from within, he would be able to love without getting attached if he had joined the Jedi at an earlier age, but he didn't so his attachment and greed results in his turn to the Dark Side.
youtube
So does it make sense that Lucas' narrative would be that "the Jedi (aka EXTERNAL forces) pushed, denied and failed Anakin that they caused him to turn" instead of "it was Anakin's own fault because he wasn't able to let go"?
He has said multiple times that, aside from Anakin's downfall, the Prequels center on the Republic's downfall, never mentioned the Jedi once when describing what the Prequels are about.
youtube
If the Prequels were actually about "the fall of the Jedi and how they lost their way", wouldn't he have brought it up once? And would he really have focused so much on the Senate and politics rather than adding more development to characters like Mace and Yoda?
I think the answer to all of these is "no".
Here's one more: Lucas stated so many times that this was a fairy tale, that all six Star Wars movies are meant for kids. The situation of the Prequels is more complex than the one in the Original Trilogy, but before, during and after the Prequels Lucas confirmed that the Star Wars morality is binary, it is black and white, good vs bad.
Would he really intentionally make the Prequels this subversive story wherein "actually, if you stop and think about it, the good guys are really the bad guys"?
Or is it just that:
We live in a time where movie audiences expect the "good guy" to be individualistic, flawed and non-conformist, and the Jedi are a community of nigh-incorruptible champions of good who've already completed their character arcs.
So the adults (aka not the target audience) who watched the Prequels at the time were turned off by these characters who they perceived as "holier than thou", having been conditioned by the times they lived in to think that there are skeletons in "Mr. Perfect's" closet.
Thus, they retconned the films (via comics, books, games and episodes) so that they could enjoy the Prequels more, and did so by:
injecting more realistic "gray morality" themes into the films and
projecting an oppressive "boys don't cry" philosophy onto the Jedi.
For lack of a better metaphor, "they put a skeleton in Mr. Perfect's closet so that they could finally find his existence bearable, and keep bringing up that skeleton to this day."

Hi!!! Your posts are always amazing and I have so many bookmarked because you create the best little collections. Anyway, I am in a big BL rut right now and I can't seem to get into anything. Any fast-paced, recs that can bring me out of my slump? Thanks so so much :)
Oooo, fast paced is pretty subjective lemme think...
Imma got with the narrative sense of the word pacing (rather than just an in-your-face fast-moving plot, although that too,) so: good tension, craft, and narrative. Here's my pulls - I went broad and into the well, in case you had seen some recent stuff.
10 Fast-Paced BLs to Pull You Out of a Slump
(I'm assuming you have seen KinnPorsche)
I did a quick pitch for each cause I'm drunk so maybe they're funny, all spelling errors are my own and the result of growing up in 3 different English speaking nations and 2 non-English ones.
Someone wanted more elevator pitches a while ago, here ya go!
Tumblr media
Our Dating Sim - nerds in love, reunion, deadlines, gaming, teasing, pining tiny idiots, ADORABLE
Tumblr media
2. Semantic Error - you cannot be a BL fan and not have watched this, the ultimate enemies to lovers, also the prettiest
Tumblr media
3. To My Star - neurotic actor (actual puppy), grumpy chef, sparks, cooking lessons, LOVE!
Tumblr media
4. We Best Love - defines fast paced in romance, literally when asked why his character fell in love so fast Yu said, "well I only had one 20 minute episode." Yet... we BELIEVED IT.
Tumblr media
5. HIStory 2: Crossing the Line - it's a perfect sports romance, don't bother me with trifles
Tumblr media
6. Not Me - also how do you say antidisestablishmentarianism in Thai? + hot boys kissing who probably shouldn't be and convoluted soap opera identical twins plot... someone at GMMTV thought it made sense, we just here for the tattoos and the the Pride scene
Tumblr media
7. The Eighth Sense - who let Korea be this angsty? SO MUCH TENSION.
Tumblr media
8. Unintentional Love Story - omg the plot, forced into a totally understandable betrayal, falling in love despite himself, put into a corner he can't get out of, the AGONY, the eyes EMOTING at us in PAIN
Tumblr media
9. HIStory 3: Trapped - hot cop falls in love with hotter mafia boss he is chasing for MURDER (bonus weirdly domesticated switch-blade wielding hit-man obsessed with geeky police tech support - COME ON)
Tumblr media
10. Long Time No See - assassins, cat fishing, either side of a turf war, HOT sex scenes then even hotter beating the shit out of each other and kissing while COVERED IN BLOOD (this came from KOREA?)
There.
All kinds of flavors.
One of them just HAS to work!
If not, you could go for shorts. Try Strongberry:

Being besties with Hiori, Kurona and Niko
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Content: Fem!reader, Headcanon that Niko, Kurona and Hiori are same age, school au, mentioning of Shidou, Otoya, JJK and Merge Mansion (it’s a mess I know)
Tumblr media
- You were friends with Kurona first, bc he has the best social skills
- He saw you sleeping in between classes one day, and you overslept the bell for next period, so he woke you up.
- Still half asleep, you looked at him and said “damn your hair are so pretty”
- He flustered and that’s how great friendship began
- Because Niko and Hiori were also in football club, and all of you were in the same class, you started eating lunch together
- All of them felt rather odd bc they were not the type to hang around girls, especially Niko, he’d blush whenever you say anything to you
- Kurona regularly braids your hair on lunch breaks, and he got so invested he learned different braiding styles and he experiments daily bc your hair are longer than his
- Need to put your hair up in the ponytail on PE lessons? No: u gonna have the prettiest braids in the entire gym
- After you get comfortable with Niko and Hiori, you guys are totally a ride or die
- You and Niko exchange mangas to each other and watch new anime episodes while being on discord, so u can comment live
- Sometimes Hiori and Kurona join, while Hiori just plays games and listens, and Kurona is studying and listens, bc without context it’s also very funny
- With Hiori you play video games but he is way too good in this
- The only game u have any chances with Hiori are the lamest phone games like Merge Mansion and he is still somehow better??
- One time both you and Niko had puffed eyes at school, and when Kurona asked what happened, you started to explain JJK KFC break up
- You are very protective of your friends, so if you ever hear anyone talking shit about them, you are ready to fight
- You always tease Hiori that he is the prettiest of all of you
- Some senpai confessed to Hiori thinking he was a tomboy, and you will remind him about it until he’ll die
- Kurona is the softest and the nicest of all of you and he is always just happy to spend time with his friends
- You always enjoy listening to him talking about sharks and you’d go with him to aquarium several times
- Whenever you mention that some guy from their football team is hot, Niko straight away says “yeah but he is a dick, don’t” (especially if you have your eyes on Shidou or Otoya)
- They won’t say it out loud but they are afraid if you’d start to date one of the more popular football guys, you’d forget about them (insecure squad, but they love u so much)
- Every week you ask Niko to allow Kurona to braid his bangs but Niko refuses every time (but u won’t give up)
- You all suck on PE, and you always mock them how they made it to football team if outside of that they act like a bunch of nerds (but then they mock you back that you don’t even play football, just suck, and they are not wrong)
- You have study sessions together with lots of snacks and soft anime music playing in the background
- You have three great listeners whenever you need to vent, and they all have your back, because they are the best
- This friends are treasure and a bunch of keepers, and you sometimes get sad thinking they will get girlfriends and you already miss them
- “Bro before any of us get a girlfriend there’s gonna be a while lol” Hiori on discord after listening to your crying hormonal rant
- “You’d better”
Tumblr media
By slowlyholypeanut - don’t steal, give credit
Btw I do play lame Merge Mansion and Hiori would totally be better than me
Here a bonus smau regarding jjk (spoilers!)

MAG Episode 200
I decided to write down my thoughts on the final episode in a completely separate post. I felt like I would have lot to say and analyze after the episode was done and it would've been too much for the reblog chain I made.
I was right.
So, I started listening to this podcast ages ago. Like I mean sometime early last year and then stopped; forgot everything that happened and restarted from the beginning then proceeded to take long breaks in-between more upsetting episodes to keep me sane.
I went into this as someone who doesn't really listen to podcasts and doesn't have much interest in tragedies. I'm more likely to pick an animated film or an action anime or a fantasy novel or a short hurt/comfort fic than a 200 episode horror tragedy podcast.
Buuuuuuut my dearest Eggo had introduced me to the characters and the story. They talked about how much they loved the horror elements, the characters, the world; she encouraged me to give it a listen and reassured me that it was completely worth it. Obviously, she convinced me.
Despite the fact that my soul is shattered due to the emotional series finale, I'm so glad I gave this podcast a chance and I'm glad Eggo rambled about it to me. If they didn't, I wouldn't have come to a wonderful realization...
Tragedies are heartbreakingly beautiful.
I loved learning about these characters and seeing how they dealt with these horrible situations and impossible odds; I had to take so many breaks because if I binged MAG for too long I would become completely miserable due to the pure agony that Jon and everyone around him goes through.
However, there were always these little moments in between the agony. These small conversations between characters; a private reflection; a light joke. A pressure release for the audience that reminded me what, I believe, tragedies are meant to do -- highlight the beauty in the painful and be a cathartic outlet as well as a lesson.
I still don't like angst very much. I don't see the appeal of going into a piece of media that has no sense of comfort in it. Funnily enough, despite the genre space it sits in, MAG is comforting to me.
It brought me the love story of Jon and Martin -- together til the very end and learning to communicate and be with each other. Something that came to me at a point where I am considering pursuing a relationship myself and fear the hurdles I may face. Their story put my own worries just a tad at ease. The way I related to them and the way their fears are handled in the story helped -- are still helping me -- handle my own.
It brought me themes of humanity and monstrosity and how thin of line that can be. It brought me into worlds of flesh, and dark, and sky, and twisting corridors that made my head spin and my heart race.
Most of all, it brought me hope -- something I only realized in episode 199. The hope that even when your world is ending there is something that can be done. The faith in a chance that things can be better if you decide to take that leap.
That good old saying...
"It's always darkest before the dawn."
Now, after finishing The Magnus Archives, I can move on.
So, as I type this with teary eyes and a scattered brain, I would like to say that I loved The Magnus Archives; I have a better appreciation for the tragic and horrible.
I can seek out The Mechanisms and experience more of Jonny Sims' wonderful work.
I can start listening to Rusty Quill Gaming and listen to Alex's DM style and all of the team's adventures.
I can seek out more works produced by the wonderful people over at Rusty Quill.
And most of all, I can catch up with The Magnus Protocol and I can finally say...
They put my bois in the fuckin' 'puter

Moments I loved from NATLA Episode 4 - Into the Dark ❤️️❤️️
Aang and Iroh interacting more - love that they're not friendly to each other, per se, but it builds a foundation that makes their later respect make sense
The Earth Kingdom being harsh with their 'fallen foes' is nice to seed in here as in the animated version (season 1), most of the 'bad' stuff was relegated solely to the Fire Nation
The Earth Kingdom is no pushover and it's nice to see that early
Sokka defending his dad "My dad would have never done what you did" even after he commiserated with the Mechanist about his dad 'not valuing' what Sokka could bring to the table.
Though Sokka is frustrated that his dad doesn't see "him", he knows his dad is an honorable man doing his best and when Sai tries to use him as an example of 'doing the wrong thing just to survive', love that Sokka calls him on it
SECRET TUNNEEELLLL!!!
Like them introducing this now - all old buildings have secret passages - it's just a law
Teo's "its time to fight!" attitude - love it. He's so ready to stop cowering and wants to hit back
Flopsy statues!!!!!
Rolly ball throne? Nice touch
"Bumi? BUMI!!" :D
"You did 🤨" Love how Aang keeps his "I'm just gonna say the truth and I don't care if that's 'not allowed' I'm gonna do it anyways because your social rules are stupid" attitude
Katara's water pouch!!
Love the shake in Jet's voice as he tells Katara "I am nothing like the firebenders"
Katara's assessment is shallow on her part, but the core has a ring of truth - no, freedom fighters aren't the same as their oppressors, but when you start harming your own people to hurt the enemy, then you really have lost sight of what's right and wrong - why you're fighting.
FREEZE JET'S ASS!
I love Jet, especially this version of him, but yeah, no touchy
And Katara is absolutely right: Jet might have helped her through her block, but her power, that's all hers.
What are you going to do, Zuko?? What choice will you make!!??
Love that we're getting this choice of his here in Omashu
Bumi's puns 😭 kill me now - though very canon accurate
Like the vibe that everyone just has to laugh as to not anger him - there's less of a whimsical madness vibe to Bumi here and a more serious - yeah, this guy is our leader vibe that's quite unsettling
The tonal shift with Bumi did give me pause, but I like how the writers kept the jokes, the games, his eccentricities, but shifted the vibe to make them darker
In the cartoon, whimsy might work, but if you think about it realistically, that leadership style would NOT work during a war - a 100 year war, at that.
HIPPIIEESSSS!!!!
Sokka getting into that maraca - you let your little musical heart fly
"What are you doing here?" "We're doin' what we're doin'" :)
Oma and Shu lesbian supremacy!!!
Always get chills when this story is told
Lol Sokka's "There's no such thing as angry spirits." Right before the episode where they're kidnapped by an angry spirit XD
Love the switch up of the rocks not really being the path out - keeping us animated show fans on our toes as to what the lesson will be this time
Everything about the Earth Kingdom soldier's interaction with Iroh - all of it is just so good.
The cartoon glossed over Iroh's warmongering past - but he did do terrible things that hurt so many people. No, 'it was war, I was a soldier' is not an acceptable excuse (we didn’t accept it with Jet, so why the double standard for a ROYAL MILITARY GENERAL??)
The funeral scene
Leaves from the Vine
Zuko offering a soft and kind memory of Liu Ten instead of just talk about him being a soldier
Zuko sitting next to Iroh so he won't be alone!!!!!!!!!
The conversation between Katara and Sokka in the cave where she talks about how Jet helped her and Sokka how Sai helped him - then Katara reminding Sokka that when he was forced into a leadership position for the Southern Water Tribe, he didn't have anyone to help him through that
The concept of us all needing people to help us through our journeys is so important and really comes around at the end of the episode and just through the entire series
BADGERMOOOLLLEEE!!!!
Is it bad that all I could think about was how cute it was the entire time it was on screen?
Dallas Liu is so. Freaking. Good. At. His. Stunts!!!!
And the first mention of the theme Zuko struggles with of compassion being weakness!
Sokka's little 'thanks!' as Katara saves him from the badgermole XD
Seriously, all the little touches in Ian Ousley's performance are great
Idk why Sokka assumed the badgermole was a man, that's clearly a dignified lady
The power of sibling love guiding the badgermole was a great alteration from the OG - if they can be controlled through music, they can definitely respond to emotions
Bumi's whole speech here - and his willingness to get crushed - is what brought me around on this portrayal of him
He's right: it's a game where you have to make impossible choices - you have to fight even when you don't want to (a much more poignant message for Aang than 'look at things a different way')
The power of friendship saves the day!!!
"You CAN rely on your friends - and that's the only way I'm going to save the world: with my friends"
"You think like a child" (derogatory) "Is that really so bad?" (genuine)
Bumi made Appa's whistle!!! 😭😭😭😭
One last time Zuko chooses protecting his uncle over capturing the Avatar 🥲
"Everything I need is right here on this boat" 😭😭😭
[Masterlist of my NATLA thoughts]

4x06: Patrick and Eliza: Game, Set, Match
It's funny because when I got on this ship Season 2, I legitimately didn't believe it had a prayer. The title is Miss Scarlet and the Duke, for heaven's sake. Now though...any ending that isn't Eliza and Patrick is crap. As for the title...the Duke was always in small letters. He's in the background, BEHIND her. He is an important part of her backstory. That doesn't make him her future.
SPOILERS BELOW!
Let's just go over some of the stuff from the episode.
More Partner Power in the cold open. The sound like an old married couple. They prepare to fight the criminal together.
Patrick staring at Eliza center stage taking applause from the men with so much damn pride.
Eliza demonstrating a willingness to share credit with him and the men. She is absorbing Patrick's lessons like a sponge, both there and with Potts later.
He takes her to the race track and she agree with almost no cajoling needed. This is so much cooler than dinner with William, because dinner is a traditional female outing. Patrick is sharing his hobbies, and not giving a damn about societal convention.
Eliza says the thing that has always made Nash such a favorite of mine: He has faith in her when no one does. Not her father, not Ivy, not William.
She is able to stop Patrick from murdering his brother's killer with the simple words, "You are my friend." Eight years of waiting and planning for this moment, and the knowledge he is important to Eliza is enough to stay his hand.
He apologizes to her. She interfered with his plan when he asked her not to. Prevented his revenge and escape to the continent. He is facing jail time. He just saved her life. AND HE APPOLOGIZES TO HER! Try to imagine William doing that. I dare you.
He tries to make HER FEEL BETTER. Once again he is IN JAIL facing serious prison time as a PRIVATE DETECTIVE who has put men in there. Yet, he puts on a brave face and assumes an optimistic air. He uses his old joke about his good looks and her brains. All to sooth her as much as he can, while he can.
Her thinking him a good person is desperately important to him.
He'll "always keep trying." Patrick never quits, his commitment is absolute. That is what Eliza needs, because life with her will never be easy.
She takes his hand. Eliza isn't much of a comforter, and as she looks at him there is grief she can't or won't speak. So instead she take his hand to tell him without words how much she cares.
I'm sorry, but William on his best day, will never top this. Some people might say that the writers have clearly written Patrick off with this storyline. I say however the writers have perfectly tee-ed up the end of the love triangle.
William will return next season to a changed Eliza, one that has learned, thanks to her growth with Patrick, how to function as a PI perfectly well without him. Detective Fitzroy won't need him anymore either, having finally stopped caring about his father and earning the respect of his fellow officers. The icing on the cake though I think will be Patrick's trial.
I suspect Eliza is going to perjure herself to get Patrick released, possibly even blackmail some people. She going to 1) risk her license and 2) offend William. William as a police office takes the law very seriously. Eliza, when push comes to shove, is going to save her partner by any means necessary. Patrick, I further predict will also discourage her from involving herself and risking her future as a detective. More over I think he will try to get William to stop her, hopefully resulting in a frank discussion during which William will release the extent of Patrick's feelings for Eliza.
William will finally realise the truth, that though they may love each other, they don't belong together. To Glasgow or back to America will go William. Patrick will be released and from there onto more Patrick/Eliza investigations.

Title: First Choice Pairing: Jennifer Jareau x Reader Prompt: 91. "Don't go on that date." "Why?" "You know why." "Say it." R WC: 729
There were certain lessons in life that Y/n Y/l/n had learned the hard way. She would have been a complete fool to think that love would have been any different. However, she had expected after years of heartbreak and watching the love of her life get married off to someone else that maybe, fortune would have shined down on her. Will and JJ had been together since before Y/n had even made it out of the academy. They had a family together, despite all of the little breaks and separations that they had been through. Y/n had gotten the invitation to JJ and Will's wedding, but she had skipped out on it. That had been the only thing to really ever come between them, so whenever Y/n heard that JJ and Will were getting a divorce, she had been happier than a good friend should have.
Y/n had never wanted to be JJ's friend, not really. She had always thought that they had a special connection, one more akin to lovers. Everybody else had seemed to notice it before either of them did. Y/n could remember every single warning that she had gotten about her feelings for JJ. They were something to be kept to herself, and Y/n had done just that. She had kept it all bottled up inside of her to the point of multiple breakdowns and episodes of chaos that nobody except for JJ could break her out of. JJ seemed to have no issues taking care of Y/n, which had been just the thing to trick Y/n into thinking that she had a shot.
The waiting game was a cruel one. JJ needed time to work her mind out after Will moved out. Y/n had given her that time, and then some. Apparently, it had been more than enough time. Y/n had been confident in her walk up to JJ's office to invite her over for the night. JJ had seemed excited, it had been quite some time since they had hung out with each other after all, but Y/n could tell early on that something was off. Y/n knew a rejection whenever it was coming, and this was going to be a bad one. JJ would let her down gently, of course, but Y/n had been building herself up for too long to let it be easy.
"I'd love to, but I've got a date," JJ said apprehensively.
"A date, with who?" Y/n hadn't heard of JJ talking with anybody, and JJ told Y/n almost everything. That could have meant it was one person. JJ watched as Y/n's face fell with a look of utter devastation. "Please don't say it's him. You guys just split up. I thought everything was signed and done with."
"We're in the separation process, and maybe it's for the best that we stay together. Will and I, we just needed some space to sort ourselves out. Y/n, the boys need their father. I'm sorry," JJ said. "I didn't think you'd ever get around to actually going for it."
"JJ-," Y/n paused as she tried to carefully collect her thoughts, "-don't go on that date."
"Why?"
"You know why. Please don't make me say it," Y/n pleaded with her.
"Say it," JJ said sternly.
"I can't tell you how I feel just to be cast aside. I'm not your first choice, and I never will be, so what's the point? Why should I tell you that I'm in love with you only to be told that you don't see me that way? I won't do it." Y/n hadn't planned on getting so upset, but once she had started, it was impossible for her to calm down. JJ sat there speechless, not having expected so many words to come pouring from Y/n's mouth. "I'm just going to be. Congrats on getting your shit sorted, I'm sure that it was really hard."
"Y/n, don't be like that," JJ sighed. Y/n didn't listen to her though and just stormed off. JJ couldn't blame Y/n, and maybe if Y/n had said something earlier, they would have been in a much different place. Now, JJ wasn't sure that her and Y/n would make it as friends.

The State Championship
Tumblr media
One of the key things I like about Teen Wolf is the way its heroic protagonist, Scott McCall, defined heroism through his compassion. This active compassion is not restricted to simply alleviating suffering; it also extends to the awareness of people as individuals with different abilities, needs, and motivations. In other words, Scott cared for people even when they didn't make his life easy or do what he wanted. It is a defining trait for him, even though he still had to learn several important lessons, including recognizing boundaries, acknowledging failure, and coping with the idea that others would use this compassion against him.
I feel that nothing shows this more than his friendship with Stiles Stilinski. Scott doesn't need Stiles to be perfect, to be always right, to be powerful; he simply needs Stiles to be Stiles. For me, one incident in particular shows the depth of Scott's love for Stiles.
When the episode Battlefield (2x11) starts, it's the week of the State Championships, which the Beacon Hills High School has managed to reach even with two separate serial killing sprees going on during the same semester. At the beginning of the series, Scott's dream was to make First Line. That dream is gone.
Scott: Well, thanks, but I'm not - I'm not going either. Can't even think about playing some meaningless game right now. Isaac: You weren't at practice last week, were you?
It seems that Jackson, who Scott knows has not only been turned by Derek into the kanima but is now under the control of Gerard Argent is going to be playing in the State Championship. Scott decides he has to play, because Gerard is up to something. After all, he always has a plan.
The stakes are raised throughout the episode. Derek is elsewhere, beating the shit out of Peter in a useless expression of self-loathing. Scott's been benched by Coach due to Gerard's manipulation. His mother -- directly threatened by Gerard at the beginning of the episode -- comes to the game. Gerard gives a very menacing speech with serious overtones. Scott doesn't know what to do.
And then, as Stiles and Scott sit next to each other on the bench, both nervously waiting for the game to start.
Stiles: You know what's going on? Scott: Not yet. Stiles: It's going to be bad, isn't it? I mean, like people screaming, running for their lives, blood, killing, maiming kind of bad? Scott: Looks like it. Stiles: Scott, the other night seeing my dad get hit over the head by Matt, you know, while I'm just lying there and I can't even move, it just - I want to help, you know, but I can't do the things that you can do. I can't - Scott: It's okay.
And that's that. Scott spends the rest of the episode struggling with Gerard, who threatens to "have Jackson rip someone's head off right in the middle of the field and drench everyone you love and care about in blood." Gerard threatens Scott's mother, Lydia, Stiles and random spectators. While Isaac comes to Scott's assistance, Scott has to leave the game to save Isaac from being killed by Gerard and his hunters.
But throughout the game, there is not one line of dialogue and not one frame of action that indicates Scott resents or even thinks about asking Stiles for help. Stiles has told Scott that he's at his limit, and Scott won't ask Stiles to give more than he can.
So it ends up that while Stiles is happily scoring his first goal, Scott is fighting hunters in the locker room. He's stressed, he's panicking, he's in over his head, but he doesn't put that burden on a friend who has said he can't handle any more. The production actually lampshades it:
Gerard: You want to play chess, Scott? Then you better be willing to sacrifice your own pawns.
But that's the point: Stiles (and Isaac) aren't pieces on a board to Scott. He won't treat them as pawns (the way Derek and Peter treated him), even for the greater good.
In order to stop Gerard and Derek from killing innocent people, Scott has already given up his lacrosse season and he is in the process of losing Allison. His mother is now in danger. Stiles and Isaac are now in danger. And if he isn't fighting killers armed with wolfsbane bullets and broadswords, he's confronted with a werelizard agent of vengeance.
Meanwhile, Stiles is becoming the MVP of the State Championships, getting the acclaim of the crowd and his fellow players, including his father and Lydia Martin. And this never bothers Scott one little bit. He wants Stiles to play, if that's what Stiles wants to do. He doesn't try to demand or guilt Stiles into helping him. He wants Stiles to be happy.
While the episode ends badly for Stiles, that's not Scott's fault. Gerard takes Stiles because Scott doesn't succumb to Gerard's manipulations on the battlefield.
That makes Scott a good friend. That makes Scott a hero.

The Chay Rewatch Ep 5
As part of my KP Rewatch, I’m going to be commenting on each episode and analyzing the different Chay scenes. He’s my favorite character, and I thought I’d put down my thoughts (as well as timestamps for his scenes) as a fun way to express that.
Ep 1 & 2, Ep 3, Ep 4
Ep 5 - The Music Lesson
Tumblr media
Time 4:58-7:56 - The Bread Sticks
Yes this isn’t a Chay scene, but at this point I’m analyzing Kim and Chay scenes.
Kim’s Outfit: A classic Kim look with the leather jacket – black this time at least- and the white pants. Someone please take those white pants away from him.
Not Kim taking two seconds to confirm he’s alone in the office before practically jumping to searching for clues. He'd love escape rooms so much.
IDK if this ever gets confirmed, but those handprints belong to baby Porsche and baby Porchay right? The red paint is so ominous.
Korn, I think, definitely likes Kim the most out of his three sons. He doesn't trust him, but he sees how Kim attempts to play the game his own way. Kim, unlike Kinn and Khun, is suspicious of everything, an amazing fighter, and establishing himself on his own. Kim makes an amazing chess piece. If Korn could control him, he’d be set.
Kim, your interrogation is not subtle at all, and Korn knows it. But, he allows it because Kim expressing interest in the family makes it easier for him to draw his youngest back into the fold. But, that doesn’t mean he trusts his son.
“I’m more interested in what you’re thinking.” – cue the dramatic music. This honestly makes me question why Kim is investigating his father. The show never really gives us a motive for that, nothing to clearly explain what starts this obsession. Kim is obviously paranoid and suspicious of everything, but he got out of the family compound, and he’s living on his own. Usually that would mean you want nothing to do with the family, but Kim actively searches out what his father has done.
Time: 11:54 – 13:53 – Talking & not talking at the carp pond
The quick look at Kim that Khun does just before he walks on screen after quietly waiting for him is so meaningful. Khun is never quiet. But, he knows that Kim never comes home and treats him like a wild animal letting his youngest brother come to him. Once he’s acknowledged that’s when Khun gets loud.
Kim, your ass ain’t subtle. His casual walk by the carp pond that isn’t near the front entrance or garage. You wanted to check in on your brother just as much as your brother wants to check in on you. The lack of communication in this household
How in the hell did Kim get Chay’s phone number? And why is Chay just answering random numbers late at night?
Chay probably thought his wildest dream had come true :(
Time: 30:40 – 38:28 - Chay didn’t even get to eat the snacks
Porchay is so cute with his guitar next to his idol
Chay’s outfit: so begins the plaid shirt era. The blue looks good on him and it matches the subtle blue flowers on Kim’s jacket. He looks so soft.
Kim’s outfit: the blood-red velvet bomber jacket is such a good look on him! This is a Wik outfit through and through. Kim knows Chay is obsessed with Wik, so Wik is what Kim is going to give him. Why did this style only appear in one episode! Why is almost every other jacket a leather jacket! I need to know what his shirt says desperately. I need to analyze it.
Chay wandering around the studio very carefully not touching anything while being excluded from the conversation, little brother core
Kim preparing snacks, sorry sir but do you want Chay to fall in love with you right now? Giving someone food is an act of love (to me at least), and as a hungry teenager definitely to Porchay as well.
Not Chay immediately clocking that Wik taking him to a secluded, personal recording studio is a bit above and beyond
THE LITTLE HEAD TILT CHAY DOES WHEN KIM SAYS HIS NAME IS KIM
Sorry I’m calm now.
I LIED! THE WAY HE TILTS HIS HEAD TO READ WIK/KIM AND THEN KIM MIRRORS HIM!
“Any side would do. I like them all.” – You can actually see this hit Kim in real time.
Chay responding that it seems fun when questioned why he wants to study music. Yes, baby boy enjoy what you want to do in life. No joke Kim is not used to this level of blatant honesty. Chay has nothing to hide and why should he? He likes music and it's fun. That’s it.
“Let’s do it on your brother.” – Kim you are not slick. This is embarrassing!
CHAY’S HEAD TILT WHEN HE’S QUESTIONING HOW KIM KNOWS ABOUT PORSCHE! I AM UNWELL
Anyways, no Chay please don’t accept that awful explanation. I know Kim didn’t call you out for the all sides comment, but please! Stranger Danger! You can see Chay’s brain working through the excuses of Okay he let me be weird I have to let him be weird now because maybe he did see it, maybe this isn’t so weird. Kim, you are so lucky Chay likes you enough to be colorblind.
“I still feel like I can’t be like him.” – that’s a little heartbreaking considering Chay desperately wants to take some of the burden off of Porsche. Porsche who to Chay is the rock his whole life is built on.
I’m sorry Chay just giving Kim his phone. Are you not scared he’ll see your Wik stan account or your AO3 Chay?
The photos they chose for Chay’s catalogue are so cute. Why did I just now only notice that Porsche’s red shirt has a ton of cats on it? How much do you wanna bet that was a gift from Chay?
The texts to Porsche break my heart. Chay obviously knows his brother won’t respond, but he still needs the catharsis of talking to him because that was their dynamic before. They were always open and always there for each other
Chay has so much self-confidence and power. He wrote something in minutes and sees that his idol is trying to ditch him, but he still goes hold on mister please listen to what I wrote. That’s what being raised by bad bitch, don’t think about consequences, love is not a weakness Porsche Kittisawat is like.
You can see Kim realize that this kid is good and start screaming in his head before he joins in. Kim loves music, and even though every bit of him is screaming get this kid out he’s not useful, he can’t help but break open just a little bit
Their duet with their song! Kim you are never getting over Chay
Time: 39:52 – 40:34 – Bro shenanigans
Chay practicing so hard on his guitar! He really does love music and genuinely finds it fun!
The way he freezes when he see Porsche and then just runs to him! He missed his brother so much. He’s definitely been so lonely without Porsche, but he doesn’t show it to his brother.
The brother bonding montage. You can tell these two characters only ever had each other.
Chay’s Outfit: Chay is wearing a Tanjiro from Demon Slayer shirt (I would recognize that haori print anywhere), which holy shit costuming y’all are so wild for this one. Tanjiro sacrificing everything after his family died and Nezuko his sole surviving sibling becoming a demon. The green shorts paired with it are cute.
The focus on Chay monologuing and Porsche listening intently.
Chay going off on a school trip after being forced to by Porsche is so telling. Porsche doesn’t see his worth in other people’s lives. Chay desperately misses his brother, but allows Porsche to persuade him because it makes Porsche happy to see Chay live a good life, one that Porsche never got a chance to have.
Overall Chay Rating (Chrating): I’m going to give this episode an A.
I love the different sides we get to see of Chay here with both Kim and Porsche. He’s such a bright person. He’s not as naïve as some people think. He definitely saw Kim’s weird thing about Porsche, but he doesn’t see the worst in people and moves past it. He’s so happy seeing Porsche even though Porsche essentially abandoning him had to hurt. He chooses to be happy that his brother is home.

was tagged to answer @callivich's questions by @jrooc and @lingy910y! thank you thank you 🙏 also i got rambly and nsfw please forgive me.
What’s a fic you’ve read more than once? we drag ourselves hand over hand by jesuisgourde. i read it for the first time pretty recently and i've read it at least five or six times since. there's untagged major character death, okay? there’s uncertainty and hope and grief and anger. it is well written and feels authentic. there’s also sweetness and family and love. it is Fucking Sad. it is painful. but it’s so worth it! no one needs to know how many times i've read the taming of mickey milkovich by @whatthebodygraspsnot it's between me and god. but if you’re into upset mickey acting out and ian being rough and sweet all at the same time and setting things straight and hot bjs, you should also read it. and i have only indecent things to say about and i'm your warm receiver by @metalheadmickey FAVE. i think i commented something about secondhand subspace and i am not kidding. it does things to me.
also cooperative gameplay by grayola. i've only read it twice but i'm new here and it's long so it feels like a thing.
What’s a gifset you always have to reblog? you may have noticed i will always reblog mickey's brown sweater. haters are WRONG. and the 5x10 dugouts scene because bloody kisses are hot and i love fictional violence. and also that scene in the hallway with that fucking purple robe. i can't remember the episode but it’s the scene where ian looks like he's gonna devour mickey and mickey is just having the time of his life.
What’s a headcanon you can’t stop thinking about? thinking about mickey and the gallaghers all the time. mickey and carl are besties and they do the dumbest, shadiest shit together. i think they like exploding things and playing with fire and pulling off semi-dangerous pranks. they love to shoot together (ian isn't allowed to come because he's better than they are). they have the same taste in video games and they are insufferably competitive. they're both the biggest softies with animals (the whole cat thing in s1 never happened in this house). actually they're both just huge softies in general. like they're all family oriented but i think lip tried to impose his will cause he thinks he knows best and will try to Teach Lessons. and debbie struggles sometimes because her siblings have been assholes to her at times and i think she might want to reciprocate sometimes. and ian is torn between finally prioritizing himself and mickey sometimes. but i think carl and mickey are just no questions asked generous and showing tf up regardless of how they feel about a situation because that's what family does. and also they are chaos uncles and don't even try to hide it. they're giving the kids sweets at all hours and toy guns and encouraging rough play. when the kids are teens they're the ones giving them their first beers and telling them they're overpaying for weed. they're gonna be on speeddial to pick them up from parties and the police station. i also think that when carl leaves policing (because just no) and ian finds what makes him happy, carl joins mickey in security. mickey and debbie are legit close friends. mickey doesn't like to talk to mandy about his relationship b/c she always takes ian's side or makes assumptions about mickey because of their past. but debbie is a great sounding board and i think mickey is good for her too. they're honest with each other in a very matter-of-fact way. mickey appreciates having someone besides ian really consider him. debbie likes being treated like a capable adult. and mickey respects her and takes an interest in her job. and they both feel strongly about self-advocating, ie not taking any shit. whatever weirdness the gallaghers had about debbie's sexuality mickey DOES NOT. i think they go out to gay bars together sans ian and have beers. and mickey will tease debbie about her taste in women but also be her wingman. he’s surprisingly good at it and can actually pick out good matches for her. they tag team planning family events and eventually rope in tammi. they make the holidays so nice and fun and start new traditions.
What’s a fanart you love looking at? literally anything from @darthvaders-wife. i went to patreon for her uncensored kinktober stuff but her notting hill comic is so good i cry. also really enjoying @gallavichonly's style esp their mickey. the energy is just perfect! and i think about @harukanaaaa's baby ian often. he's so precious.
What’s something you’ve discovered since entering this fandom? A new trope you love? A different analysis of the show? Something else? 🐙. shameless gave me so many Disappointments and Sorrows that it's taken my fandom consumption to new lows. in a good way! gallavich's canon development is so goddamn tragic that fic writers can put them in any hurt/comfort/sick/angsty/death situation and i will enjoy it and ask for more.
What’s an underrated trope or concept you’d like to see more of? mickey's floopy hair and million layers and cutoff shirts and his whole Deal immediately read so queer to me. it may just be me. i want his aesthetic. anyway i love gnc/trans mickey. also aging, hairier, and/or chubby husbands. i love cam's abs and noel's tiny waist as much as the next guy but sometimes i want ian and mickey's bodies to be as soft as their hearts. they're so horny for each other i just think they'd both be into there being more flesh to grab and bite. and i want graying hair and wrinkles and glasses and sex that's maybe less acrobatic but just gets nastier and more intimate. also i need ian 'i love smells' gallagher to drag his face through mickey's sweaty armpits more often and give mickey chest hair cause ian loves rubbing against that too. and i want mickey pulling on ian's beard and playing with his leg hair. idk i'm just thinking about their soft bellies and sweat-matted happy trails rubbing together. look i'm a little worked up about them and perpetually horny. someone should stop me because i am embarrassing!! also we need more fisting. as much as we love ian's hands, mickey loves them more and he is not scared. put one inside him.
What’s a plot hole you wish had been answered or resolved? why didn't we get them dealing with 3x06? what happened to yevgeny? was he mickey's or not? and regardless, how did mickey and ian deal with losing him? why'd they do svet so dirty? she just wanted stability and family and honestly i think svet+gallavich and svet+kev and v were both promising dynamics. hated the way they wrote fiona out. and then never mentioned her? i wanted more gallagher siblings screen time and i specifically mean ian, debbie, carl, and liam. i still don't understand what happened with the house. carl's money paid for it but in fiona's name. then she gave it to debbie? lip couldn't have sold it no matter who sided with him so what was the point of that storyline? also s10-11 were all over the place tonally.

Hils Watches The King's Avatar - Ep 30
I am really glad Tumblr upped it's image limit per post from 10 to 30. Otherwise each episode would take about 3 posts for me to liveblog
ANYWAY
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I still hate his dad but I am very much enjoying this One Excited Fan telling him how much his son means to people
Tumblr media
Yes please do keep roasting Wei Chen for being old
Tumblr media
I love him, but every time I look at him and I can't help but think of how @lynne-monstr described him as 'deadbeat gamer dad who went out to buy coke and never came back'. It's so perfect!
Tumblr media
And his dad left as soon as they won. And now Ye Xiu is making the sad puppy face again. STOP MAKING HIM SAD.
Tumblr media
If you wanted to tell your son that he's now welcome at home you could have actually talked to him instead of giving a house key to some random fan you met at the game. YOU MADE YE XIU SAD AGAIN.
Somehow Ye Xiu being sad is almost as bad as when Yifan is sad. LOOK AT HIS FACE
Tumblr media
YOU MADE HIM CRY AGAIN
Tumblr media
Look, this is just the way sports fans are. I've seen comments like this plenty of times in hockey.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Baozi is such a himbo I adore him
Tumblr media
I love that while Baozi is running his mouth the girls are canoodling and Ye Xiu is keeping Baozi's boyfriends company
Tumblr media
Okay, sports fans are like that but they are generally not like THAT. What the fuck?
Tumblr media
Oh come on, don't feed the trolls
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LMAO they're all guessing what lesson he wants to teach them and Ye Xiu is just like 'I wanted us to eat cake'
Tumblr media
More athletes and idols should say this. "I'm grateful for the support but I do this because I like it and I'm good at it and it means something personal to me."

Why does Courtney remain on Alejandro’s side in WT, even after her elimination?
Bridgette and Leshawna, the other two who appear as puppets in ‘This Is How We Will End It’ resent Alejandro after the cause of their eliminations. So does everyone else.
Except for Courtney, who even after KNOWING of Alejandro’s schemes, and that he used her, STILL, at her own free will, sides with him.
Now yes Lindsay sides with him too, but 1) She would likely want to be on the non-Heather side anyway 2) She was one of the few people Alejandro has not caused the elimination of, so she doesn’t hold beef against him.
So why does Courtney stay?
It has to do with her desperate need of control.
Courtney has always controlled people of tried to, to benefit herself. In that sense she relates to Alejandro and sees him as just and the good guy. Especially compared to Heather.
In Courtney’s mind, this behavior is right, and she is NEVER to blame for the bad stuff that happens to her.
But ironically it’s this behavior that she pushes away opportunities for relationships.
She even says so in an Action confessional, telling a story about how a classmate walked out on her and yet she won anyway:
“You want something done, you do it yourself.”
The only characters she ever considers friends throughout the WHOLE SHOW are Duncan and Gwen. Even then, even though she cared about them, (emphasis on the past tense in this sentence) she chose the win over them and used them.
When she dated Duncan, her goal was to change him into a male counterpart of her, and she considered the effort to be ‘love.’
I said it before, I do believe she genuinely loved Duncan in her mind, but that doesn’t excuse her actions, it just explains it.
Then even before the love triangle even happened, Courtney’s only concern of Gwen is whether or not she’d be risky competition to take to the finals. She even asks, “How do you think they’ll make us turn on each other?” Or something on the lines of that.
As though that is her only concern.
In that same episode where she asks this, she reveals her plans to change Duncan still, revealing she has learned nothing.
When writing a negative character arc, the character often doesn’t learn a lesson that makes them better.
In fact Courtney and Gwen’s friendship is solely circumstantial. They’re the only non-simps, non-crazy, non-Heather people on their team. So they have to work together and get along. Then in All Stars their friendships is basically: “We share the same awful ex boyfriend. Ha ha.”
But of course, in Courtney’s POV, she becomes the one who was always in the right.
Duncan and Gwen both betray her, PERSONALLY. Of course she’d be out for blood.
The only people she ever became friends with go behind her back and disregard her feelings.
This is another Britney Reed. It’s further proof that Courtney is far better off alone.
Only when she’s in control and the ONLY one in control, will there be peace in the world.
And in the end of her run on the show, it’s the only thing she cares about.
So why let Alejandro use her?
Well… she doesn’t.
If you really look into it, Courtney only helps Alejandro at her OWN WILL.
Unlike Bridgette and Leshawna, who only needed seduction, Courtney was already trying to kill Gwen and sabotage her team BEFORE Alejandro even tried to convince her.
In Episode 16, he tries to convince her only for HER to say she’s trying to do things herself.
She doesn’t need Alejandro to screw her over.
And actually, Alejandro does NOT even plan to ditch Courtney in episode 20. They vote Blaineley. It’s only proof in Courtney’s mind that Alejandro is not only her only ally who will listen to her, but also the definitive example of what a winner looks like.
So even after she loses, she thrusts the conversation of eliminated characters helping the finalists, so she can take matters into her own hands on how the game plays out.
This is HER being the one in control of the victor she deems best suited.
Looking into her character arc more, you learn more the more you think about it.

okay thinking about Home School once again. Especially the way the first few episodes play with the idea of “teaching valuable life lessons.” I think this stands out especially since the episodes end by quoting these lessons. My first reaction was a bit of confusion, wondering if the writers were in support of these lessons or not. Especially since a number of other GMMTV shows will end episodes by using a meaningful quote. But after watching further, I think it’s an intentional move, one that is meant to play with the viewer, using the metatextual element of the quotes and the “life lesson” narratives as a way to manipulate the audience--much like the masters use these lessons to manipulate the students. So far, I think it’s pretty clever in that regard.
Each “lesson” is clearly centered around punishing or breaking specific students while on the surface making it seem like tough love and a meaningful lesson learned to all of the students. Now I’m not sure if the masters truly believe they are teaching lessons, but the end result is the same. If you’re always trying to guess what lesson is being taught your focus is on either blaming whoever the lesson is aimed at or on how this is intended to better you. Rather than seeing the fucked up ways they’re controlling you through a veneer of “tough love”.
And this tension works on an audience level too. At least for me, I’ve seen many shows aimed at kids and teens growing up where the narrative of each episode is neatly wrapped up by the teen learning a valuable life lesson. So there’s a dissonance felt in watching Home School when we see how controlling all of this is but also can’t ultimately disagree with the supposed lesson being taught. And we’re so used to the sense of narrative and emotional resolution of a good old “life lesson.” But we also are never fully given that resolution either because the specter of control bubbles under the surface leaving us with a feeling of unease,, frustration, and at times confusion.
It’s interesting because in another context the lessons learned are valuable: rely on others, don’t let innocent people take the blame, etc. This goes for Pheng too. She needs people to step in and stop her more self-destructive behaviors. But not through coercion or more trauma, rather through care and support. The thing is, in another context these lessons would be wonderful and help the students, but instead they’re being co-opted to create control. This is something cults or high control groups do all the time, co-opting the idea of self betterment (whether that be moral, spiritual, physical, or otherwise) as a way to manipulate and control people.
And at least so far the writers seem to be pulling quite clearly on the types of control tactics common in high control groups and other authoritarian systems. They’re slowly creating a system where “you are responsible for one another” means: you need to monitor each other, turn against each other, and keep each other in line. They make basic needs like sleep and food either limited or unreliable. Notice how they find the lost ducks back where they fed them. It’s a moment of relief, but also read metaphorically can suggest how the masters want the students to also react by always coming back, always going to where they’re fed (notice how they always meet in the dining room). Even forcing them to write down what they did wrong is a classic control technique. It instills shame, shifts one’s view of right and wrong, and ultimately can be used as blackmail if someone acts out or tries to leave.
We can also see this control as standing in for the ways in which the students’ parental figures have failed them. We see this with White who bristles under the lies the masters tell because she has seen the way adults in her life have wielded lies against her leaving her feeling powerless. The masters’ games leave the students and the audience feeling powerless in a parallel way.
This is also true of what Penneung goes through. The way he is dragged off, isolated and drugged are clearly informed by the traumatic experiences many autistic and other neurodivergent people have gone through with restraint, seclusion, and forced medication. These are still very real issues that continue to happen in institutions, including schools. So the show is pulling on real world control tactics that are used on disabled people. Yet it also serves as a reflection of how Penneung’s father treats him--locking him up, but also shaming him, desperately wanting a cure (”treatment”), and rejecting him emotionally.
In this vein, perhaps we can view the “life lessons” as also standing in for the various ways in which adults try to fit kids into neat narratives, narratives that ultimately aren’t about helping the kids but trying to control them.
