April has the same issue as Donnie where a lot of her songs are more specific moments rather than her as a whole, but it’s worse for her since she has way less songs than he does dbskcbkshc- Cut The String is probably the one that would fit the best as a theme song though since even though it is meant to be for a specific moment she does have a tendency to run away from her problems instead of solving them

Also side-note, I do have an unfinished April animatic to Goodbye Until Tomorrow/I Could Never Rescue You because my The Last Five Years hyperfixation came back shskvcjsgfjd- I’m unsure if I’ll finish it cause it’s pretty old now but even if I don’t finish it I’ll still post the WIP!

Edith: If I Die Young by The Band Perry, Hurricane by Halsey, More by Halsey...Hurricane is not a perfect one but I think it sort of fits?

Anyhoo, some songs that are good for the Finch family in general are Two Birds by Regina Spektor (Calvin flies away from Sam first verse, Gus complains to Dawn about the sky being overcast in the second, and Milton leaves Lewis in the third), Merry Go Round by Kacey Musgraves, Dollhouse of course, and the above interpretation of Soldier, Poet, King.

I hope at least some of y'all have a similar music taste!

I haven’t posted in a while! Sorry about that, I haven’t been finishing too many drawings recently. I tend to have a bunch of ideas for rewrites and stuff and I want to get it all down, but then I lose interest and move on. Anyways!

Characters are Leafpool and Crowfeather. This piece is for a PMV I want to make (I might not, though, but atm, I really want to). It’s for my rewrite of the second arc. Also, when I started this account, I initially planned on doing an AU on the third and fourth arc - now it’s for the whole first arc all the way to the fourth. This is, as you may be able to infer, about the second arc.

I’m not going to go into it too much - I will when/if I make the PMV - but essentially, the romance between Leafpool and Crowfeather is very different to how it was in the books. I always hated how abrupt their romance was, so instead of making it less abrupt, I decided for there to be a reason for it. Again, that’s for later!

The song that inspired this piece is ‘Boys Will Be Bugs’ by Cavetown, a song I used to listen to a lot when I was younger, but recently got into it again. Also, here’s the speedpaint if you’re interested:

was listening to the song boys will be bugs by cavetown earlier today n i couldn’t stop thinking abt the line “i’ll fuck you up if you’re mean to bugs” and how my mind immediately went to san & gray in like the moon! mostly bc of the nickname he gave her (which had me smiling like an absolute fool by the way) and how he’s so overprotective of her now T_T i feel like san would 100% say smth along those lines and their relationship is so so precious i can’t wait to see it develop and gray open up to him more <3

I don’t even know how to explain how happy I feel I’ve been re-obsessed with Cavetown since the newest drop and loving the mullet cause SAME ROBBIE. Lol I’ve had a mullet and am currently regrowing mine out, didn’t know he was too so extra comfort from him. Also 1994 song is just such a big mood.

As always he is delivering but more importantly my mom heard me listening to my same old favs she knows well (boys will be bugs is her song for Young Royals, cause the football field scene, gotta say, amaziiiiing job there mom) and was like “oh yeah I remember him I love him what’s his name I need to add him to my stuff” I shared and told her to look up his awesome mullet cause she’s a bit back n forth on my love for mullets so must share them.

As soon as she did, from upstairs she yells “what the fuck? He looks like you, I literally thought this was you.” I mean… MY HEART IS BURSTING AFTER A DEPRESSION BOUT FILLED WEEKEND THIS IS JUST WHAT I NEEDED TO HEAR TO ENSURE MONDAY BOUT TO BE MY BITCH!

I’ve also been p depressed about my hair as of late cause it’s still at a length I can’t figure out how to look cute with cause of my mixed textures it looks odd and I just don’t feel cute, RIP soon enough it’ll be long enough to go get it styled then let it grow in but this has made my night and weekend and I wanted to share in the gender euphoria moment of being compared to such a king.

omnilingual translation - superhuman ability to translate any languages, spoken or written, human or alien in origin. as they’ve learned more about their mutation, it’s only grown more powerful. it extends to deciphering codes and computer language as well as hidden intentions and body language.

hand-to-hand combat - with a mutation that has no offensive/defensive abilities, doug was forced to pick up hand-to-hand combat at first to defend himself. being partially merged with shapeshifting techo-organic alien means doug is now pretty set when it comes to combat, though they can still throw a mean punch. don’t be swayed off by the oversized sweaters, he’s hiding muscle under there.

warlock - a member of the technarch race. he ran away from his home planet to escape a battle to the death with his father. originally seen as a threat to the x-men and the new mutants, it wasn’t until doug was able to communicate with warlock were his true good intentions revealed. the pair instantly formed a close bond-- doug being the only one able to communicate with warlock at first (and teach him some english). the pair are partially merged, physically and mentally. warlock is able to protect doug this way by turning into a suit of armor or weapons. their merging is a risky game, doug is constantly at risk of permenantly getting infected by the transmode virus and merging into one being entirely

𝐀𝐅𝐅𝐋𝐈𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒: new mutants, x-men, s.w.o.r.d in that particular order 𝐅𝐀𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐘: philip ramsey ( father ), sheila ramsey ( mother ) 𝐙𝐎𝐃𝐈𝐀𝐂: taurus sun, aries moon, virgo rising 𝐖𝐈𝐊𝐈 𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐊: douglas & warlock i’ll be playing both of these guys together since they are quite literally bonded, even if warlock isn’t physically there, he’s always wrapped around doug’s right arm giving the appearence of a metal arm.

was your character “blipped” out? if not, who important to them was blipped out, and what has it felt like after those five years have passed?

doug ( and warlock ) were not blipped. it was a challenging five years, desperately wanting to help the x-men but also desperately wanting to keep the remaining new mutants together. eventually, the stress of the situation got to them-- doug was never one to work well under stress. he found himself a in north salem, needing his own space but still wanting to be near the school should duty call. he was etastic when the disappeared returned... less so to give his little apartment back to the woman who had lived there before she had been blipped. he’s glad to have his fellow new mutants back after so long, finally something that feels normal.

livin’ his best life in a college apartment in the city. after the blip, he finally felt comfortable enough to start attending college. he easily got into the linguistics program at empire university ( mainly by hiding his mutant abilites and just posing as some guy™ who happens to speak like six languages ). roommates wanted, money on loan from the x-men doesn’t cover all of the costs of a kid and their alien sidekick.

why is your character affiliated with s.w.o.r.d?

while not fully trusting of s.w.o.r.d. just yet, doug wants to believe they can do some good for the world... plus they were kind of forced to become alligned when it somehow spilled that he was merged with an alien. doug cares about protecting warlock above anything when it comes to s.w.o.r.d. matters, followed closely by the x-men and new mutants.

who are their major friends, allies, and foes?

his ultimate ally will always be warlock. the two of them need each other. as much as doug hates to admit it, they’ve also relied on his fellow new mutants for a lot over the years, it was easy to feel like their weakest link for so long, but they are truly his best friends. his loyalites lay deep with charlies xavier and the x-men, the school became a home for them when doug was disowned by his parents for being a mutant. any foe to mutantkind is a foe to doug + magus he hates warlock’s dad.

whose hands do they believe the country should be in?

someone who cares about mutants and aliens.

what’s their current mental state at? their physical state?

doug has always been anxious. the ‘a’ in douglas a. ramsey actually stands for ‘anxiety’. but that’s okay, they constantly have their emotional support alien wrapped around their arm.

Subsurf hcs: Jake

Probably had bad athsma as a kid and his mom is kinda worried that it'll randomly pop up again because he's always running from cops or skateboarding around so she makes him carry an inhaler around just in case

He acts like he hates it but he actually appreciates it

Has broken a sh!t ton of bones over the years because he's reckless asf

His dad was a cop and an abusive drunk (mostly verbal)

After Connie divorced him, she and Jake moved to the city (this is why they live in an apartment complex; Connie is trying to work up to buying their own house)

This could be a big reason why Jake doesn't like cops and gets into trouble a lot??? I dunno I might be taking it too far hahaha

When they moved, Jake met Fresh, Tricky and Yutani (how they met is still tbd)

Jake is bisexual; might be biromantic (still pretty young, he'll figure it out 😀)

Definitely had an existential crisis when he realized and kept denying it for a while

But he came to terms with it once Tricky came out as a lesbian :)

Has a hUGE @SS CRUSH On Fresh (like huuuuge crush bruv)

The only one who knows is Tricky and he told her by accident because he was totally freaking out abt it and it just slipped out

Then he freaked out even more and Tricky assured him that it was okay and she didn't think of him any differently yadda yadda

A few tears may have been shed but they both promised to never speak of it again

Jake knows Yutani likes him (despite her great efforts to hide it) and honestly feels pretty bad about not liking her back

Connie is definitely suspicious of Jake's sexuality (she probably found the "am I gay quiz" in his search history and brought it up during dinner once

She was all like "if you're not straight it's ok honey" and he DENIED IT SO HARD

But then later that week she walked in on him and Fresh totally about to kiss and it was super awkward

Like as soon as she opened the bedroom door they both jumped away from each other super quick and she was like "👁👄👁 did,, did you do yo,ur home,wor,,k" and he was like "y, yea, h,," and she said ok and just backed out slowly and it was just super painful to live through

As soon as she closed the door back they both just sat there like wtf just happened

It went unmentioned for at least a week until Connie just bursted and was like "I'M SORRY I DIDN'T KNOW YOU WERE HAVING A MOMENT" and Jake was like "IT'S OKAY BUT PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD LEARN TO KNOCK" and since then she has made sure to make her presence known before walking into his room

Jake thinks she doesn't know they were going to kiss but she totally knows they were going to kiss

Jake is that type of kid who talks like he hates his parents (he definitely hates one of them) to look cool but in actuality couldn't be happier to have Connie in his life

Cops in general either make him super nervous or super angry (depends on what they look like I guess)

Loves dogs to the eXTREME

He wants one so bad but Connie has to keep reminding him that they aren't allowed to own pets in the apartment

Can't read for sh!t

Literally he'll just be staring at a book not even reading it just off in his own little world

Connie used to call him "space cadet" when he was in elementary school because he was either zoned out in his own world or hyper asf in his own world

Had an astronaut/space phase for tHE LONGEST TIME

Probably has ADD/ADHD

Still has nightmares about his dad but won't admit to it

He obviously liked my chemical romance at least once in his life. At least once.

Listens to a little bit of punk rock with Tricky but also really likes The Beatles, Def Leppard, Led Zeppelin, that kind of stuff
