@oftomorrow asked for a starter from BuckyCap
In truth, Bucky still wasn't used to wearing the red, white, and blue and wielding the shield -- Steve's shield, because it would always be his no matter how long Bucky carried it. But someone had to carry on his legacy, to carry out his last wishes, and Tony Stark had been right; Bucky would never have let anyone else do the job. It was a way to remember and honor the best friend she hadn't had the guts to face before his death and, in some ways, also a path by which she could atone for some of what she'd done as the Winter Soldier.
Tony Stark had been as good as his word. Bucky operated independently, and her true identity wasn't publicly known. Some people knew, of course: Stark prominent among them, obviously, but also Natasha, Sam Wilson, Sharon Carter, and the archer known as Hawkeye. But the the American people at large, she was masked and nameless, simply a second Captain America.
Right now, though, she was on a covert mission for Nick Fury, something she'd always been much better at than inspiring speeches. Rousing words had been Steve's gift, never Bucky's. Aleksander Lukin, an old protégé of Vasily Karpov's, appeared to be entering into some sort of deal been his company, Kronos Corporation, and Lex Luthor's LuthorCorp. This looked like bad news. Luthor was notoriously shady, and Lukin clearly had some sort of ulterior motive for his manipulations of the global oil market. So Nick had sent Bucky to surveil a subsidiary office belonging to Kronos Corporation, in the hopes of gathering some useful intelligence that could be helpful in the coming days.
She hadn't expected someone to land behind her, looming suddenly out of the shadows, and she reached for the shield instinctively. But once she got a look at the surprise visitor's face, she relaxed.
"Oh, it's you," she said, looking up at Superman.

I'm here. Everyone say thank you @crisispider and I think this is a good time for some general housekeeping for anyone who's new, and anyone who might need a refresher on some key parts of this blog!
Just a basic psa that Natasha has been one of my special interest characters for over twenty years, I've voraciously consumed just about everything that's ever been made featuring her. I'm very autistic and I've spent a lot of my life with this character. I love her, and one day I hope I get to make the Black Widow movie I wanted to see.
Moving on: I write Natasha in a way that's primarily comics based. I sprinkle in a lot of her comics history in my every day threads for flavor. That said: I don't gatekeep here, I don't expect you to have read over fifty years of comics, I don't expect you to know every detail, and if you need clarification on anything please just hop into my discord and ask! Or IMs but I don't see those as often.
My discord is available to mutuals and it's the best way to plot with me.
I largely disregard the Black Widow movie in my personal canon. I have a lot of opinions about it but for the sake of this blog: the movie just breaks my canon too much to be applicable. Please keep this in mind as I will be referencing Alexei as Natasha's ex-husband. If she's thinking or talking about her "father" I'm either referencing Ivan Petrovitch or Aleksander Lukin. (It's usually Ivan, but if you want the info dump about her and Aleksander let me know.) I am super happy to talk about how to work any of your movie-bases muses into my canon, though, so please don't feel like I'm just going to automatically shut you down if you want to do something!
Okay that's all I had to say, I can't wait to bother y'all!

Following Try to Take a Step, James has issues with his arm and with his mind. Steve just wants to help, but doesn't know how.
This is probably the darkest chapter of this six part series, so if you want to skip it, that's totally fine. That just means that part five won't make as much sense once it's posted, but I'm sure you can puzzle it all out if that's what you choose to do. Maybe I'll put a little recap in the notes section of part five when I post it, although the next part will also be quite dark.
I don't own these characters, they belong to Marvel Studios.
Anyways, enjoy!

Bucky Barnes has a lot to contend with in the 21st century. One difficult task after another is laid out in front of him: managing his new found freedom, attending therapy and working through his trauma. It's a struggle, but recovery is not a straight line, as his therapist so often likes to remind him.
He has to navigate this friendship / relationship / whatever it is with Sam all the while managing his guilt and shame for his years as the Winter Soldier, and his grief over Steve's death. Then of course there’s these new super soldiers that have appeared out of nowhere that have to be dealt with, along with the frustrating inclusion of new faces, like Walker, and the familiar, like Zemo.
And then there is another task, one that sometimes seems to be the most difficult task of all: learning to be kind to his past self.
Rewrite / fix it of TFATWS – you do not need to read the other parts of this series, this works as a standalone. Pre TFATWS to about three months after the series ends. Not just a rehash of the TV series. Entire story is written, will update fortnightly, perhaps more frequently.

i wouldn’t call sharon touch starved as much as she’s touch leery. i’ve always said she’s of that ‘don’t touch me unless i want you to touch me’ mindset, and a lot of that comes as a result of a time in her life  /  career when she wasn’t in control of her own body thanks to what doctor faustus and aleksander lukin did to her. not to mention what little say she really had while she was an agent with SHIELD ---------- it’s a poorly kept secret that agents are expendable no matter their rank or status within the organization, something she finds out the hard way.
so it takes a long time for her to trust people again in general just because for a long time there’s a worry that anyone trying to help her or show her kindness is using her for a means to their own end, (  it doesn’t help that faustus took advantage of her by assuming the identity  /  body of her SHIELD appointed therapist, but that’s another post for another time  ) but touch is one of the last things that heals for her mentally.

BUCKY BARNES : RESIDENT EVIL VERSE.
tag : verse. bucky barnes / resident evil.
Tumblr media
considered dead since 1945, former united states army soldier ja.mes bar.nes slowly faded into history, the world unaware of how history was being shaped by his very hands. found by soviet soldiers after a near-fatal accident, barnes was taken as a prisoner of war before carefully being crafted into a powerful weapon : the perfect soldier. for decades, a brainwashed barnes was used by the soviets to carry out their will, all for them and against others. but in 1991 with the fall of the soviet union, a shift came to the existence of the winter soldier.
former kgb general aleksander lukin becomes the sole inheritor of the winter soldier project and program as he begins to grow his very own company : the kronas corporation. using the winter soldier for personal gain in the form of personal vendettas and business "negotiations," kronas and lukin quickly grow into powerful forces. and more changes come in the mid-90s when lukin enters a new deal with the umbrella corporation.
while kronas had a record of buying out and absorbing other companies for lukin's gain (oil and energy, private security, water, real estate, etc.), he saw the potential of a quid pro quo arrangement with umbrella and the reaches they had across their own businesses, especially as pharmaceuticals is one area kronas had not yet expanded to in order to further lukin's reach in the country.
at some point, early in their dealings, lukin revealed the winter soldier to those in umbrella he was in contact with. while initially using him as a threat to gain loyalty, individuals with umbrella were intrigued — but lukin was steadfast in his secrecy surrounding his agent. as part of their agreement, as long as it's seen as mutually beneficial, lukin allows the higher-ups of the umbrella corporation to use the winter soldier for their own gain — on lukin's terms, of course.
one such time came during the aftermath of racoon city's destruction. in the few years between the incident and umbrella's involvement becoming public, the winter soldier emerged once again, this time in search of survivors that the umbrella corporation saw as a threat, at the time ; individuals such as jill valentine and leon s. kennedy (among others) were targeted for elimination.
while lukin agreed, umbrella's wishes were no top priority for him. lukin had already begun the process of dissolving any connection kronas may have to umbrella, even privately, as a precaution, as he would not allow what he'd built to be dragged down by them. ultimately, all assassination attempts failed (for various reasons), to umbrella's detriment, but lukin saw this as no real loss.
in the years following umbrella's dissolution, lukin only mildly involved himself with any of umbrella's competition that took the opportunity to rise now that they were gone. he made it his business to keep his eyes on any other golden opportunities, seeing as the partnership with umbrella amounted to nothing, in his eyes.
years later, bucky barnes has managed to escape from lukin, regaining his memories of his earlier life. after having been granted a conditional pardon by the president, barnes largely lives as a civilian. that is until the government decides to begin calling him off the books to deal with various things they deem threatening ...
NOTICE : i still consider myself only marginally familiar with resident evil and its canon. i am constantly learning. while i haven't personally played any of the games, i have watched playthroughs of the first four and i've tried to do as much reading about the canon/timeline as i can. feel free to correct me if i ever get things wrong—or i'll probably be asking a lot of questions. as i get more familiar with RE, i may make adjustments to this verse, or i may change things simply from plotting with people.

Snake Eyes- BoopBoop
Summary:
There's a lot of expectation attached to Steve Rogers' name. It's taken him years to prove his own worth - that he's made it so far in the USNA on his own merit and not just because of his father. He's close though - there are only a few more months until he graduates and gets to stand on his own two feet. It's taken a lot of effort to get there, and a lot of sacrifices. Bucky's beyond the point of expectation. When your father and grandfather have both been President - and your mother nurses political ambitions of her own - brilliance is a foregone conclusion. He's just counting down the final months of his confinement to the glass cage of the White House and he's determined to put that whole world behind him. But as the days standing between them and their dreams dwindle, Steve comes to realize he might have made one sacrifice too many, and Bucky learns that his freedom comes at a cost he's never going to be able to pay.
