Lessons from Galatians Part 4a
Chapter 4:1-15 Meet your Abba Father
4:1 What I am saying is that as long as the heir is a child, he is no different from a slave, although he owns the whole estate. An everyday example.
2 He is subject to guardians and trustees until the time set by his father. Other people boss him around and tell him what to do.
3 So also, when we were children, we were in slavery under the basic principles
of the world.
By the principles or elements of the world the Apostle does not mean the physical elements. In calling the Law "the elements of the world" Paul is saying that the Law is something material, mundane, earthly. It may restrain evil, but it does not deliver from sin. The Law does not justify; it does not bring a person to heaven. I do not obtain eternal life because I do not kill, commit adultery, steal, etc. Such mere outward decency does not constitute Christianity. Even an unbeliever can observe the same restraints to avoid punishment or to maintain a good reputation. God receives no glory from this. In a sense the Law brings us into condemnation. Paul is saying that such effects of the Law certainly cannot be called divine or heavenly. These effects are principles or elements of the world.
4 But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law,
5 to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights (KJV adoption) of sons.
Two thousand or so years ago in a stable in Bethlehem, Jesus Christ the son of God was born to his mother Mary and was born subject to the Law. He came to redeem humankind from the penalty of the Law, so that we could be freed from sin and able to enter the Family of God as mature sons.
6 Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, "Abba, Father." When you heard and believed the Gospel, God poured out his Holy Spirit into your heart, and he cries ‘Abba Father'.
Daddy God and causes us to know that we are saved, and not only saved, but that we have become sons of the living God. The Holy Spirit operates in us in such a way to produce new motives, new desires, new ways [1].
When the Spirit within us cries Abba Father, we can know for certain that the Father hears him and through him us.
7 So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir.
Checkmate! Says Paul, since we are now sons of God, we can no longer be slaves, but are heirs of the promises of God.
8 Formerly, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those who by nature are not gods.
9 But now that you know God--or are known by God--how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again?
10 You are observing special days and months and seasons and years!
The Apostle Paul knew what the false apostles were teaching the Galatians: The observance of days, and months, and times, and years. The Jews had been obliged to keep holy the Sabbath Day, the new moons, the feast of the Passover, the feast of tabernacles, and other feasts. The Judaizers urged the Galatians to observe these Jewish feasts under threat of damnation. Paul tells the Galatians that they were exchanging their Christian liberty for the weak and beggarly elements of the world.
11 I fear for you, that somehow, I have wasted my efforts on you.
12 I plead with you, brothers, become like me, for I became like you. You have done me no wrong.
Paul is saying that it was not that they had not offended him personally in any way, but it was because of his love and concern for them that they should stick to the one true gospel.
13 As you know, it was because of an illness [2] that I first preached the gospel to you.
14 Even though my illness was a trial to you, you did not treat me with contempt or scorn. Instead, you welcomed me as if I were an angel of God, as if I were Christ Jesus himself.
When Paul speaks of the infirmity of his flesh, he does not mean some physical defect or carnal lust, but the sufferings and afflictions which he endured in his body. What these infirmities were he himself explains in II Corinthians 12:9, 10: "Most gladly therefore will I glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong." "In labours more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequent, in deaths oft. Of the Jews five times received I forty stripes save one. Thrice was I beaten with rods, once was I stoned, thrice I suffered shipwreck," etc. (2 Cor. 11:23-25.) By the infirmity of his flesh Paul meant these afflictions and not some chronic disease. He reminds the Galatians how he was always in peril at the hands of the Jews, Gentiles, and false brethren, how he suffered hunger and want.
15 What has happened to all your joy? I can testify that, if you could have done so, you would have torn out your eyes and given them to me.
The Apostle continues his praise of the Galatians. "You did not only treat me very courteously. If it had been necessary, you would have plucked out your eyes and sacrificed your lives for me." And in very fact the Galatians sacrificed their lives for Paul. By receiving and maintaining Paul they called upon their own heads the hatred and malice of all the Jews and Gentiles.
Amen and your prayer
[1] 2 Cor:5 17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
[2] 769. astheneia, as-then'-i-ah; from G772; feebleness (of body or mind); by impl. malady; mor. frailty:--disease, infirmity, sickness, weakness.

LOOKING BACKWARD
Tumblr media
THE KEYNOTE of this chapter is "Remember!" Faith begins without certain evidence of an external and positive kind, but as life advances, one day after another adds the weight of its indisputable testimony. If we step out on the supposition that there is an eternal and spiritual world enwrapping us on all sides, we shall come to so clear and distinct an assurance of it, that it would be easier to doubt our existence. It is a good thing to look back and see the way; it is as certain as possible that the thread of Divine purpose is stringing together the many-colored links of our life.
Notice the alliteration of Deu_8:15, Deu_8:16. "Who led thee"; "Who fed thee." Where God leads, He feeds! Look back on the past, and see that just as sure as the guidance of God, has been His care. There is no lack to those who allow Him to lead them in His own paths. Look back on the past!—Its sins and backslidings—leave them behind for ever, and rise to newness of life. Its discipline—intended to chasten and strengthen us. Its trials—meant to reveal God's power to deliver in the hour of trouble that we may glorify Him. The terrible wilderness of loneliness, the fiery serpents of temptation, the manna which has never failed to fall, the water which the Rock has ever yielded. Deu_8:17-18 teach us the lesson of humility. If, for some reason, you have been put into a position of wealth, honor, or influence, do not be proud, or think that your talents or abilities are to receive the praise.
Thank God, and remember that it is He who gives the power to get wealth or honor, and He does it with a very definite purpose! Will you not pledge yourself to serve and worship Him? As you climb the crest of the hill, and begin to descend into the plain, not knowing what lies before, veiled in the mist, fear not, tighten your girdle, put your hand in His, and walk with Him to be His instrument to bless the world of men.

Often times we find ourselves being pulled in 3 (or more) directions. This is when we need to listen to the Holy Spirit's leading. God will never lead us in the wrong direction.

Sons and Heirs
4 But when the completion of the time came, Elohim sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under Torah, 5 to redeem those who were under Torah, in order to receive the adoption as sons. 6 And because you are sons, Elohim has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying, “Abba, Father!” 7 So you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, also an heir of Elohim through Messiah. — Galatians 4:4-7 | The Scriptures (ISR 1998) The Scriptures 1998 Copyright © 1998 Institute for Scripture Research. Things I’ve Learned During my SNS Fast
(Hello, everyone! The reason I have been inactive is because the Lord guided me to have a SNS fast for 40 days. It was one of the most quietest, nervous, yet relieving days I’ve ever had.
I had no social expectations, no connection to the world. I was living almost off the grid socially. With that, I had more time to read my Bible instead! It was like stressful and more meaningful. It was a wonderful experience that maybe I want to do again to keep myself in check. Maybe for even longer 😳
Either way, in case you have been thinking of fasting, it CAN be something other than food. The Lord would want you to restrict you from feeding your flesh in different ways. Just pray. And don’t be so hasty to want an answer. He is listening. He knows you more than anyone, if He is speaking to you He would let you know.
Again, pray and continue in communication with the Lord! That is the great privilege given to us by Jesus Christ 🥰 )
1. I have been thinking that God will answer like a Google search. He will always reveal the answer immediately or in just a few days. Sometimes He does but I’ve become too impatient. I must be patient in God’s timing to reveal things to me through prayer and LEAVE IT.
Therefore, if you have a question about something, petition it to God and LEAVE IT THERE. It will come. Or it may not. Either way, trust in God. He will help you get there. You will know what to do when He reveals it.
2. I rely too much on social media posts and have been using them instead of doing personal prayer with God. Posting Christian things and being exposed to Christian content is nice but if I simply rely on it too much, it may has forced God to talk to me that way. The best times I talk with God is the ones without my phone!
Thus, if you want to set a time limit on your phone, put an actually challenging time on it. Not a convenient one. The biggest challenge would be at best 2 hours! 6 hours is not a challenge at all. Look closely again at the screen time you put and cut it in HALF. Or maybe even more. There is no such thing as reading the Bible too much! 😉
3. Silent time is ACTUALLY okay! It’s okay to not talk to God and just sit with Him! Be still! Meditate on the things He has done for you. Not on the wrongs that people have done to you or the wrong you have done. In God I have put my trust, I will not be afraid, what can man do to me? (Psalm 56:11)!
Therefore, make a time in the morning and set some calming music and a cup of coffee or tea and have a good long-as-you-can time with God! Quiet time and meditation on a recent memory verse or your favorite one is a great opportunity to have some intimate time with God. 🥰
4. It’s actually okay to be angry with God. The psalmist in Psalm 13:1 even blatantly asks God why He has forsaken him and how long he has to wait for Him to answer. Psalm 77 is another example of anger towards God. These emotions were given to us BY Him. Even in anger, show your trust in God to correct the things of this world. To lament is actually okay. Practically 70% of Psalms is laments! And of course there is the book of Lamentations as well as Ecclesiastes.
Therefore, tell God what is grieving in your heart. Any anxiety, insecurities, heartbreak, frustration, and of course anger towards anything that you find unfair and harmful to you or others. Ask God to correct it or correct you in prayer and don’t sugar coat your feelings. Give it to Him raw. Do not hold back. It’s okay to cry. Sure, complaints are seemingly frowned upon but the psalms are full of complaints and calls for justice against the wicked or sins of this world that torment God’s children.
5. You DO have the self-control. You just have to use it in practice. You can not brag on how holy you are without acting on it. When you feel tempted, call on Jesus. Keep going even if the temptation doesn’t disappear immediately. It is because the enemy wants you to mess up so badly and fall back away from being the person you were meant to be.
So, when you feel tempted, say Jesus’ name either in your head or out loud. Do not quit until the temptation stops. His name has the authority and He gave you His name to use. He gave you the resources, His Holy Spirit, His holy name. So use it. It’s not there just because it’s there. It’s there because you can use it. He loves you and wants you to be aware of the authority He has over sin. You are not alone on this.
6. There will be days where you will feel low and high. God is not upset with you. He doesn’t ever push you away but you can push Him away. You have that choice, but don’t ever choose it. Remember how you felt before Jesus and see how far you’ve come. Yes, you will mess up, but Jesus picks you back up if you allow Him to.
Do not blame yourself or shame yourself for not doing something properly. Yes, God is pleased with someone who fears Him and does things heartily BUT do not make what you do as a way to get close to God. “I did a good thing so God loves me.” No. It should be the opposite.
“God loves me so I want to do good things.” Allow God to influence your actions. Let the Holy Spirit guide you and listen.

All who are led by God's Spirit are God's sons. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to bring you back again into fear; on the contrary, you received the Spirit, who makes us sons and by whose power we cry out, Abba Father.

Our Stone-Cold Jesus
The disciples thoughts on Saturday: “What on earth can we do now? Things looked so promising. Jesus healed the sick and gave the blind their sight back. He cast out demons and turned water into wine. He fed thousands of people with just a little bit of food. He even walked on water.” “And beyond that, Jesus raised people to life after they had passed! Who can stop such a person? What on earth…

God's Love Story About You
Thursday night on the way home, I was looking up information about The Gaithers. Specifically Bill and Gloria. I wanted to know their ages and I was shocked. She was home with a hip and two knee replacement at age 82. He is a surprising 88 years old! But I was also disappointed as I was doing an online search. I found an article lambasting them as believers! The main reason the writer was upset?…

Do You Feel the Pressure?
Have you ever seen one of those ice crushers at work? Place the ice cubes in the container, turn it on….and look out! -The machine pushes, punches and spins forever, until every last piece of ice has been crushed. Those cubes are no longer cubes, and it is unsure if they can find a way out of the machine. The ice is not alone, and it will be used again, just in a different form. But what…

The Believers' Adoption Into God's Family
As those who have been redeemed by the blood of Christ, we have been transferred from Satan’s “domain of darkness” (Col 1:13) and placed into the family of God. Our new status is as “children of God” (John 1:12; cf., Rom 8:16; Phil 2:15). John wrote, “See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are” (1 John 3:1a). We do not come into…

Abba Father
We just stepped out of a beautiful season of heartfelt thanks. Yet, as we step into the Christmas Season, our boat can list, our keel can become crooked by the navigational charts of our cultural chaos and we find ourselves needing Jesus to fix our keel.
“The mature children of God are those who are moved by the impulses of the Holy Spirit. And you did not receive the “spirit of religious duty,” leading you back into the fear of never being good enough. But you have received the “Spirit of full acceptance,” enfolding you into the family of God. And you will never feel orphaned, for as he rises up within us, our spirits join him in saying the…
