Thank you so, so much for this ask—this is a category of fiction I personally enjoy *a lot* (imagine Paul's "I slept with John..." pronunciation).

Hamburg:

ageless children, animal sweat (eyeball2eyeball): Read this story to spend time in John's throbbing, unhinged Hamburg mind. No sex on the page, and yet. It's *everywhere*. For such a short story, it takes up a lot of room in my brain. The Paul in this story is one of my favorite Pauls.

Bad Luck to Talk (7intheevening): Paul chats with JohnandYoko at a party and follows them home for a cup of tea. What hurts more exquisitly than pining? Unacknowledged pining.

John I'm Only Dancing (@skylikeaflame): Amidst the insanity of the Mad Day Out, desire erupts relentlessly.

The 70's as they should have been:

Down on the Farm (RosalindBeatrice): Incredibly hot and realistic (and funny in just right amounts!). John visits Paul in Nashville; Paul shows off Wings and the family, John stays the night. Dot dot dot.

I can only speak my mind (@paisanas): John's diaries are leaked to the press and printed; Paul reads them. What follows is the sexual awakening of James Paul McCartney as he reads of John's feelings for him. First rate pining, past and present.

I still miss someone/ I know that I miss you, but I don't know where I stand/ close the door lightly when you go (RosalindBeatrice): John and Paul meet in 1976. There is a spark. Few and far between meetings follow.

The Other Eighties (John lives and experiences sexual tension with Paul):

*SCREAMS IN GATO*

I think it was that weird gameshow at the end of the Shrek 2 DVD, that gave me my earliest memory of Puss and Boots. I was around 7, and I had no idea at the time... Just how important he would become in my life.

I woke up first thing this morning(5:30ish), And I decided I was going to watch The Last Wish. I heard it had really good animation and a great story. "I like me some good animation," I told myself, "it couldn't hurt, right?" ... "Right!?"

WRONG. I immediately started crying after the movie. This cat had shit to work through and so did I. I was aware of the themes of this movie going in. I mean, it was literally spoiled to me through this site. BUT OH BOY DID IT HIT ME LIKE A MOTHER FUCKING WALL OF ANGRY BEES. I probably woke my neighbors up with the very loud existential crisis I was having. this movie got me thinking about life and death in a way that made me pull out years of my own repressed feelings about mortality, sat down on the floor with the giant metaphorical pile of unread mail, and just started sorting through it. Tears and all.

I absolutely loved this movie. It did hurt at the end only because I was repressing my feelings during the movie since I genuinely didn't expect it to go this hard. DreamWorks really outdid themselves with this one.

Oh and the animation was *CHEF'S KISS*

TL; DR: I watched for the animation and stabby orange tabby, got recommended therapy for my repressi distressi by a fictional dog and I'm running with it.

Daily Draw - 20/5/23 - Clive Barrett's Ancient Egyptian Tarot

Ace of Cups

Genuinely I did not try to pull this one again lol but ig it is the energy that's running through this weekend. I saw Wil Anderson tonight, one of my favourite comedians. He hasn't made it to Perth since 2019. I'd missed him so much, it was such a great show. <3

It was nice to go with my brother and SIL as well. I don't often get to go to comedy gigs with other ppl, so the company for dinner and the lift home afterwards was so nice.

In a few hours, we have the next instalment of The Company, which is going to be super fun. Also MCC to watch tomorrow. :D

AND THEN TOMORROW Is Joe Lycett! :D I'm so looking forward to that omg. <3 My SIL saw him tonight; I'd accidentally double-booked myself so she was happy to take the ticket for me and I'll see him tomorrow for his second show. <3

It's very much a ka-feeding weekend, and one I have needed, I think. Anyway. It's late and I need to get to sleep before I wake up at an ungodly hour for a zoom comedy adventure wooo. <3

every so often i remember "skills" which was this thing my school introduced when i was like 13 that replaced scripture half the time for students in years 7-9. i thought this was fucking stupid because of something something state religion guidelines and everyone vehemently hated the concept. AND THEN they introduced "skills" 6/10 weeks a term and it made me want to commit arson. they were theoretically teaching us about "study skills" (which we had heard before and we not at all helpful) and "growth mindset" (my school was so focussed on growth mindset at the time it was hell and that was with the least growth mindset teacher it was nuts). these activities had very "don't be anxious" energy to children who were struggling with their mental health and teaching use language concepts we should have learnt in english class. thanks, i hate it.

so they were cycled in our "core classes" (the group of 30 we had for english, science, history/geography, and pdhpe). my class' first week was with the school's principal. you think this would be reasonable right? right? wrong. she taught us about "left brain and right brain". this was genuinely less accurate than the bo burnham song. it was some bullshit about which side is bigger and how you can tell which you are using your fingernails and are you more logical and creative.

here's what i find interesting. when i graduated, the school had a focus on "high potential learners" (i played egg shakers at the open day so i heard her 10 minute long speech). this was also at a time that there was a big risk of the top-level music class not running. i personally believe that logic and creativity are inextricably linked. you may not find the artistry in maths or science or economics, but there are people who do. you may not find the rationale behind paintings or songs or design, but there are people who do. logic and creativity are not contradictory. however, if you don't support the arts in schools, if you don't pay attention to the studies that indicate how playing an instrument improves mental function, if you don't see to how logic and creativity play into each other, what then?

i in no way hate my former principal, she was a lovely person and i do believe that she cared for her students. that being said, we aren't really two. we are wholly ourselves, and you can't suppress one part without it effecting the other. the less we valued the arts (and mental health but that's a whole other fucking story), the more our state ranks dropped.

logic and creativity matter. mental health matters. that's the moral of this story.
