â from yellow jackets - lottie matthews, lottie. is a big example of an underdeveloped goddess archetype, though it isnt necessarily her fault due to the trauma she has gone through while stuck in the wilds. she is a very spiritual person, and even isolates herself with other people to find herself. but due to her spiritual nature, people easily found way to see her as a leader and was advised for her guidance, during the time the team were stuck in the woods, lottie was seen as somewhat as a mother [not to be confused as the mother archetype as they are striking differences between the two]. she helps other people express their emotions and speaks about spirituality that could make other people uncomfortable.
â from the maden men franchise - betty draper, her character strengthens my idea that a lot of goddess archetypes are models, as she was a model for a print ad. she is a character who gets with a romantic partner that has authority, her romantic partner, don who is a completely different person to her, made betty express versions of herself that she disliked and wanted to change for the better.
â we have the addams family - morticia addams, for the fictional goddess women, morticia addams is a patron saint of what a goddess archetype is. her husband, gomez kisses the floor she walks on, morticia is a seductress and has a striking appearance that fascinates other people and makes other want to replicate her style, in real life [like vanessa hudgens] and in the show, wednesday. she is soft spoken, almost dreamy like and could be considered as laid-back and ethereal.
â from the postman always rings twice - cora smith, a mysterious woman who is married to someone who has authority, [an older man]. is perceived as a character that can also be deemed as an underdeveloped goddess archetype, who uses the love a man has for her to aid her to kill her husband.
â the fall of house usher - verna, another mysterious woman who does keep people at arms length, people come to her to have once in a life time deal, she uses her erotic energy to lure people in and capture them. she is wise, and has a calm essence that makes people comfortable around her. verna is prepared for everything and knows how to handle obstacles like how the two siblings, specifically the man went against her deal and hunted everyone in the usher family down.
â we have from the infernal devices and shadow hunter chronicles - tessa gray/herondale, like the other goddess archetype, tessa gray has a romantic partner who has high authority from the novel she is from. will herondale is the leader of the clave and is well respected. aside from that, tessa is usually under the spotlight because of what she is, and is seen to be someone who is serene, wise and has a warm energy that has many people want to be around her, but as she gets older, she does keep people at an arms length. in the early books, fertility was a big theme for her, as she was unsure if she could have children because of her being a half-demon. like a goddess archetype, tessa herondale has a grounded energy and has a striking beautiful appearance that other say is unconventional.
â from lore olympus/greek lore - selene, being a goddess herself, selene is someone who is respected and under the spotlight as she is a prominent and important figure for those who worship her, and like most women from the goddess archetype, she is someone who wants to have many moments with her loved ones, like endymion. a deity of fertility, she is someone who likes to keep in the shadows unlike her brother, helios who is considered to be flashy. selene has a personality that could be deemed as peaceful and timid like most women under this personality type.
â from the witcher franchise - yennefer of vengerberg, fertility was a big element to her character, as having a child was something she was not able to do, but with geralt, ciri was able to be her child surprise. and like the other goddess archetypes, yennefer is seen with a partner of authority/power, and it being geralt. her beauty is perceived as other-worldly, and becoming [beautiful], and powerful was so important to her that she constructed herself to become a better version of herself in a painful manner. there was a moment of the show, [i'll play the games later], that there had to be much internal search because she had lost her powers for a brief moment.
â next from legacies, there is josie saltzman - looking within herself was a big theme for her character, because she was known to be a character who was in her twin sister's shadow, lizzie for a long time; to the point that other characters had almost forced her to become a better version of herself, and even stand up for josie to her sister. josie was almost like a glass child. her main relationship, or most known one, is with someone who is the opposite of her, penelope, someone who had high authority within the boarding school she was in. even though josie is timid and shy, she is very emotionally intelligent, which is why people like to be around her a lot. she is understanding and empathetic.
â lastly, there is a character from winx club, aisha - in the show aisha is one of the main characters who gave advice to other people, sometimes she can be perceived as the mother of the group, [once again, to not be thought as the mother archetype]. when aisha was younger, aisha was isolated, which kind of made her into someone who is explosive and has a strong temper. and when. the series began, aisha was seen as anti-social, but when she is gotten to know more, the people around her are more aware of her open-minded traits.
â as i have done my research, i gathered that a lot of enigmas are are likely going to have capricorn, taurus and scorpio in their big six; in order of how much they appeared.
â they are also going to have leo, aries and taurus appear in their dominant signs; in order of how much they appeared.
â the planets sun, saturn and moon appeared in their dominant planets the most; in order of how much they appeared.
â the element that appeared the most was fire, second was earth.

Having Ottessa Moshfegh herself write the screenplay and produce the movie, "Eileen" was unsurprisingly a faithful adaptation of the original work. Aesthetically, the movie was right up my alley. Some of the dialogues and visual compositions felt reminiscent of gifs that could have gone viral on sad-girl-tumblr circa 2014. Sadly, they left out large chunks of the titular character development and her self-transformation in the second half of the story. In addition to the elimination of a lot of Eileen's raw, peculiar and disgusting behavior. All of which I felt was what made the source material interesting in the first place.
Disclaimer: There might be some minor spoilers.
Set in mid-60s Massachusetts, "Eileen" unfolds the story of a repressed and shy young secretary, the titular character, who became captivated with a glamorous enigmatic new counselor, with somewhat of a femme fatale persona, Rebecca, in the boy prison where she works. As the two grew closer in their friendship, Eileen was inspired to explore new facets of herself. Her transformation along with her relationship with Rebecca would then take a twisted turn with the revelation of a secret.
My first reaction upon watching the movie was that Thomasin McKenzie surprised me with her deliverance of Eileen. She managed to portray such a complex, repressed, longing, lonely mid-twenty woman mainly through nuanced body language and facial expressions. Her portrayal of Eileen's transformation, from drowning in the nihilism of reality to embracing her identity, was compelling. Apologies for ever being skeptical about her casting (in my defense, my main concern was I thought she was FAR too pretty to play such a disgusting character).Â
McKenzieâs chemistry with Anne Hathaway, who played Rebecca was magnetic. It got me swooning over Rebecca every time she smiled at Eileen. I thank the casting directors for signing the perfect pair to represent the leads. Hathaway's charismatic persona carried Rebecca's alluring siren characteristic, a lovely balance to McKenzie's awkward and naive Eileen. This dynamic kept the audience wondering about the true nature of their friendship up until the revealing plot twist.
Despite these strengths, I was quite disappointed that they toned down some of the raw and weird icks from the book, something I was sort of looking forward to in an Ottessa Moshfegh adaptation. Watching this only a few days after I watched âSaltburnâ and all the freaky stunts Barry Keoghan did, might worsen my disappointment with âEileenâ. This change from the books made Eileen less complex and more likable, which made her attraction to Rebecca less unsettling. It eliminated her self-reflection on her own mistakes, self-absorption and naivete which was more clearly described in the book.
For people who havenât read the books, I can imagine the conflict resolution and ending to be weak and vague. It left a lot for self-interpretation, something I realize not a lot of younger social media-addicted audiences, who are more used to more "direct" movies, would like. This open-endedness laid a heavy burden on McKenzieâs acting, which thankfully, was wonderful, but in my honest opinion, wasn't enough to compensate for the lack of closure. Integrating some of Eileenâs internal monologues, especially during her final scenes, could have provided a more satisfying conclusion for a wider audience
Regardless, despite my few disappointments, for me, both the movie and the book resonated with an emotional sense of painful longing and the agonizing feeling of being entrapped in one's self, unable to break free because of unseen limitations. It captured self-realization and the thrill of taking control of your own life and emotions. Well suited for people in their mid-20s, struggling with a quarter-life crisis. I don't know if this was intentional or not, but for me, the vague ending could represents the vagueness of life itself and the uncertainties of the future, adding an interesting depth to its thematic exploration.
African culture has portrayed the idea of the mermaid in many ways across the continent. It has also been observed that certain features are similar across these variations; she has the same purpose to seduce, beguile and intrigue mankind. She shrouds herself in her mysticism, attractiveness and, above all, her vengeance.
Typical accounts of her appearance in African Mythology, describes a beautiful woman with flowing black hair and an angelic gaze used to entrap or bewilder her spectator (not forgetting fin-like tail with a torso and head of a human).
She goes by many names such as Mami Wata (translated to Mother Water) in West Africa to Mamba Muntu in Swahili (east). Nonetheless, they all transcend mankindâs metaphysical perceptions of reality. The history of how the mermaid developed in these cultures stemmed from a broader being in the belief of these mystical creatures. Most accounts of how Mami Wata or Mamba Muntu came to be the main symbol of aquatic deities originated from a belief in âwater spiritsâ.
These spirits are often referred to as minions or soldiers, often males, for the higher deities, such as Mami Wata or Mamba Muntu, where they would kidnap, trick or deceive fisherman and seafarers to sacrifice or tithe to them.
These male figures have been known to become âspirit husbandsâ for entranced women. This overarching belief in water spirits developed the specific deities of cultures through the framework of societal identity, spiritual direction and historical beliefs.
The Myth of the Mermaid across the sea
On all accounts there is a gender associated with the belief of mermaids. A maternal deity that has a sexual power over her captives and because of this she commands great sacrifice and obedience for the reward. In comparison to the mermaid of European cultures, the mermaid isnât so much a powerful deity than just a seductive siren that hopes to entice and seduce mortal men. In the European version of the mermaid she has the same physical appearance, half fish and half human, but her intentions and actions are not as metaphysical as the African counterparts. She has a playful personality, boasts an alluring singing voice and beautiful complexion that she uses to entice seagoing explorers.
As the myth tell us, while at sea, a seafaring mortal catches a glimpse of a mermaid and to their bewilderment and amazement of this beautiful woman they attempt to make contact with the mermaid. Using her beauty and voice she sings a song to lure the seaman into the water where she then drowns them at the bottom of the sea. The legend varies whether this is intentional or not. Many claim itâs a circumstance of her playful nature, others say itâs killing tactic. This version of the mermaid is framed as sea creature only found in physical form who doesnât appear in dreams or grant great wealth, but rather is an enigmatic entity whose purpose is to seduce man.
Nonetheless, Mami Wata or the European mermaid has great power over mortals. For centuries across the globe she has toiled with explorers, fisherman and natives that would all advise to stay away from her or suffer the same fate as many have before.

Mami Wata of Western Africa
Mami Wata is the term most used to refer to mermaid entity in African culture. Although the origins of her creation cannot be pinpointed, it is likely to have originated around the coast of Guinea and fondly used in other West African cultures such as Ghana & Nigeria. Mami Wata has become the most prominent water spirit of African folklore due to the fact that she can be referenced more as a concept rather than a single being.
Her powers have been known to be very gratuitous by granting wealth, health, assistance with procreation or simply power in society. As easy as she can grant success, she can also grant misfortune because to have these fortunes granted upon you from Mami Wata would mean the sacrifice of a family member in return or celibacy in the mortal realm.
Sheâs often addressed and materialized in the dreams of her captive where she can employ her seductive powers. As her origins were spawned on the western coast of Africa she has been linked to stories from diamond miners who believe that she can grant luck in finding diamonds.
Conversely, originating from central Africa, Mamba Muntu has similar characteristics. According to folklore, Mamba Muntu can be found combing her hair upon the rocks of a shore and if one were to attain a lock of hair or even her comb then they would expect to see her in a dream. In that dream, they would use these objects to barter with her to obtain what they desire in exchange that they never speak of such an encounter.
Despite the vast cultures in Africa and the aquatic deities affiliated with them, the mermaid is probably the commonest similarity. Differences can be spotted in how they are portrayed artistically. For example, Mami Wata is often portrayed holding a serpent or snake whereas Mamba Muntu is displayed with crocodiles, some are found in lakes and rivers while others in seas and oceans. Mermaids are known by different names in Africa, Mawu-Lisu in Benin, Mamlambo in South Africa, Mmnuommiri in Nigeria or Mamba Muntu in the Democratic Republic of the Congo all roughly translate to âMother Waterâ, âLady of the waterâ or something similar to it.
The statue of liberty is a famous and well known structure. Liberty is personified as a Lady, a gift given by France to the US. By donating this statue, an oneiric sign has displaced France as the cultural, intellectual and fashion center and has made the United States as the hotbed of culture, fashion and the intellect. The seven horns on the statue of liberty symbolize the seven continents and the seas and they can be connoted as a nation eager to exercise its power. The lady itself is a symbol of libidinal consciousness. The statue of liberty is a sign of ruthless power, domination and subversion.
Talisman
I have the habit of keeping talismans in my wallet. In it I have kept the Lordâs Prayer written in Hieroglyphics, a Singapore coin with the Merlion (a lion and a fish tail), and an Indonesian 1000 Rupee note with the emblem of the mythical  Garuda and I thought all of this will make my wallet brim with money. But fate proved to be otherwise. These occultic talismans were in no way working and then I decided to trash all of these fetishes into the dustbin.
Starbucks LOGO
We all know that Starbucks is an international coffee brand with roaring profits and satisfied customers. Recently I became curious of the Starbucks LOGO and I did some research. The star bucks logo has a mermaid with two tails and the face of a woman. First I thought that there is nothing sinister about the Logo. But after reading more, I came to have second thoughts about it. The logo of Starbucks is derived from Greek Mythology and Sirens a mythical creature who use to lure sailors with its cries and then guide them on to shipwrecks. Yes the sirens have provided wealth, status and power to Starbucks but the sinister thing about the logo is the hypnotic, mesmeric charm working very sinisterly and attracting customers like a magnet. The mermaid of the Starbucks is instead of crying to sailors to shipwreck them is innocently wooing customers and alluring them to be sumptuous devotees of the brand.
1$Bill
The 1$ Bill has always fascinated me and from reading I know that it has the inspiration that came from the Illuminati and the Free Masons who are secret societies. Two most notable symbols of the 1$ bill are the unfinished pyramid and the all Seeing Eye. Both these symbols are taken from Egypt. The all Seeing Eye is the symbol of Egyptian God Horus and symbolizes a corporate, cultural, intellectual, and trade mesmerism. It can be broken down into rule, power and hegemony. The unfinished pyramid can be seen as never satiating desire. These symbols though myths work diabolically in the world.

     taking a chance in something new ⊠( solo ).
   nina was still a bit uncertainâ for as certainly inclined as she was, her writing providing a solid backbone for every original song scribbled neatly in one of her many private song books, this seemed to be a whole different world. acting, a form of expression the dark haired woman hadnât ever felt the need to dip her toes into until now, thanks to project origin and the mandatory acting classes implemented by company staff. while the workshops in and of themselves hadnât been the most daunting of experiences ( nina had actually found herself growing mildly interested when it came to the weeks focused on characterization and musical theater singing techniques ), it all culminated into one unfamiliar path.
   truthfully, could nina say with confidence that she was eager to act in a musical sense? no, no she wasnât. was nins confident enough to say she was eager to act at all? again, no. however, given her experience with previous rejection, was this an opportunity sheâd be fine with slipping though her fingers?
   no, no it wasnât.
   nina had already been overlooked once before, a clear shot to the future sheâd been hoping for tarnished. there wasnât anymore room for failure at this point.

   ânarrowing down different character ideas was a bit more difficult than i originally thought itâd be,â she starts, gaze bouncing between the company staff in charge of overseeing her audition. there was little to feel nervous about, her mind clear and thoughts all planned out to the very best of her capabilities. âprior to this, i hadnât ever really given any thought to possibly acting in a play or musical, so adapting was something i had to learn quicklyâ i hope this doesnât come off as sounding too cocky, but i think iâve been able to adjust myself rather well.â sheâd attended every class, taken part in every activity needed of her, and completed each assignment ( both within the workshops and outside of them ) thatâd been laid out for her.
   that all had to count for something.
   âdepending on whatever happens today, i feel like my goals and plans could potential alter, which is why i took quite a bit of time preparing my character idea,â she supplies, features neutral as she nods her head. âi wanted to present a character more aligned with who i am in the real world, one iâd be able to portray with my own real life experiences as partial motivationâ all the best acting takes from spectacular truths, donât you think?â nina quirks an eyebrow, lips lifting at the corners very subtly as she speaks. âthe title of knight would be one more so kept in social standing, as they are one who doesnât care to fightâ in reality, theyâd fall more along the lines of a bard, just with a sword and armor to keep them protected. sheâs not one for battle, opting to keep to herself, but rather, the type to help in the set up for the main attraction.â
   âblessed with the affinity for what one might call a sirens call, my knight is able to bring all who hear her to a halt, intriguing them in a way that beckons them to listen. thereâs an allure to it, one that allows my knight to take minute control of the situation and alter it to her will for as long as her tune reverberates in the surround space.â nina pauses for a moment, collecting her final thoughts. âthere always needs to be someone that works from the shadows, someone to gather intel or conduct meetings in secrecy, and thatâs exactly the kind of role she would playâ capable in her own right while allowing for main players to swoop in and dish out the finishing blow.â
It's likely that when we think of mermaids or sirens, a vision of lovely beings who are half woman and half fish comes to mind. It wasn't always this way, though. In mythology and popular folklore, where they first appeared, they were linked to dangerous situations.
 Mermaids are depicted in the folklore of numerous cultures all over the world. They are aquatic animals having the head, upper torso, of a female human and the tail of a fish. The sirens of Greek mythology, which were perilous creatures who seduced sailors with their entrancing music and singing to crash on their islands, may have had an impact on how mermaids were perceived in the West.
 Since ancient Greece, sirens have been a popular topic in art. However, over time, the way they are portrayed has evolved. The sirens appeared to the ancient Greeks as a hybrid of women and birds in various shapes. Early Greek art contains numerous instances of sirens shown as birds with female heads, feathers, and scaley feet. Later, while not always with wings, they were depicted as female figures with bird legs playing a variety of musical instruments including harps or lyres.
 The belief in the existence of magical beings like the sirens was discouraged when the pagan faith was replaced by Christianity in the 4th century. However, they were still utilised in Christian art of the Middle Ages as a representation of the perilous temptation that women represented. Â
 The fabled siren of ancient Greece took on a more alluring aspect during the Middle Ages, losing her "dangerous" physical traits and becoming more like to the image of a mermaid that we are all familiar with. The phrase "court musician" was used in the Renaissance to describe female court musicians, commonly referred to as "courtesans," who performed music and served as unmarried companions, a job that was viewed as immoral. They were viewed as a being that had the power to sway men's judgement.
 According to some scholars, the figure of the mermaid, this seductive, female creature, who has the power to control menâs reason developed until lose all the physical traces of the mythological being to become into the femme fatale.
 It is important to consider the misogyny of the representation of women through Sirens that were envisioned and designed through men. Sirens are considered to be powerful, manipulative, dangerous women who destroy men to get what they want. In Women in the Ancient World, Jenifer Neils states that Ancient Greece was a heavily misogynistic society, they believed that women should be seen and not heard (Neils 51). Sirens represent the fear Greeceâs society held of women gaining power. Sirens were used to demonise women and their place to be destroyed because of how âdangerous they areâ. The argument put up by Neils is that "women were characterised as weak, unable to control their emotions, lacking a soul, and destined to be ruled rather than to rule." (Neils 31). These attitudes towards women led to the sexualization of female figures. Although it may appear that turning women into sexual objects in literature benefits the brave males, it provides women more power. The siren has demonstrated the strength of seduction. To attract the attention of seafaring men, sirens employ a combination of charm and cunning plans. They use their catchy songs to entice men to their island of bones. The males are then held captive by sirens who trick them into believing they are the object of their passion. The males are just tools that the siren employs to achieve her goals. Sirens have a reputation for being incredibly conceited and self-centred. In ancient Greek society, greedy and vain women are despised. In Greece, women are expected to take on caring responsibilities; yet, if a person is vain or selfish, they will be unable to carry out their obligations.
 Women of todayâs society have reclaimed the concept of Sirens as the âDevine Feminineâ. Marylin Monroe has been identified as a clear example of this. The idea of the divine feminine is the belief that there is a feminine alternative to the patriarchal and masculine patterns of devotion that have long dominated organised religions. The divine feminine is much more than just one belief system; rather, it may be viewed through a spiritual lens to help us see things from a more balanced angle (Torres,2023).Â
 Reclaiming this concept of the sirens as a divine feminine shows a clear example of equality among sexes. The understanding of the power of the feminine energy within Sirens becomes an empowering tool for women of todayâs society, as opposed to reasons why woman should be feared. The portrayal of demonising women in this shows menâs fear of the power as opposed to the ideology of women being less powerful. Reclaiming this becomes an example of how men and women are equally powerful beings.
 It has been argued by various men, that woman behaving in this way is âmanipulativeâ, âcalculatedâ and âconceitedâ yet believe that a man in this position is âpowerfulâ, âcleverâ and âsuccessfulâ. However, all this argument achieves is providing an example of the rooted misogyny in society. Believing that women are less than men, just for behaving in the same ways.
 The reader may ask themselves, why is this author discussing sirens? In my recent art film âFeminine reflection on Feminine refraction; a filmâ (Matthews, 2023). I harboured the concept of sirens and the divine feminine in the way in which I made the film to discuss matters of misogyny and the act of reclaiming of my body and identity.

Throughout history sirens have been a symbol in art and mythology of powerful, lustful, a symbolic representation of the divine feminine. What is interesting to me is how in art and mythology the men in these stories are so extremely fearful of these creatures because of what awaits them if they are tempted by this âdangerâ.Â
My interest in mythology specifically oceanic mythology stems from my childhood, i have a huge hobby and interest in mermaids however this is the first time i have considered them in relation to my own work.Â
Some recent experimentations and developments during my Professional Platforms degree when making the Film essay has made me consider a lot about feminine and masculine energies and my own personal relation to this, in particular the divine feminine.
I wanted to consider how my work could possibly incorporate the divine feminine energy within the film, until i realised it already did. The eary, beautiful, ringing throughout the film, drawing the viewer in till they are almost in a bath of sound, in admiration of the feminine energy that they are witness too in the film, i want this sound to get more and more and more disturbing till the viewer almost feels so uncomfortable they want to leave but they are to entice by what might happen because of the relation to the video, almost drowning the viewer in guilt.
For this to be achieved i am going to collage with contemporary musicians as a studio to achieve this effect on the viewer through sound and music.
Forefront 3: Jibaro (2022), Metaphors and Expressionistic Motion
The Oscar-winning Art Director Alberto Mielgoâs latest contribution to the Love, Death & Robots Anthology (2019-), Jibaro (2022 episode), continues his exploration of love. It features a toxic relationship between two predators and depicts it using movement and visual metaphors, mainly.

Concept
The episode spectates the interaction between a siren and a deaf knight, who is immune to her powers. There is a strange yet lethal, selfish attraction between them, which ends disastrously for them both. Rather than the typical Greek siren, the one featured in Jibaro is based on folklore of several cultures. She does not merely entrance men with her voice, she drives them into a ââviolent frenzyââ with her shrieks and her seductive dance (Fleming, 2022).
Character Design
The design of the siren is most crucial. She is clad, head-to-toe, in the most lustrous collection of jewels and riches, inspired by cultures all over the world (Mielgo, 2022). This design was deliberate - the riches were meant to cover every inch of her in a blinding fashion so as to fixate the beholder onto the beauty of the treasure and not the woman underneath it all. Men are drawn to its beauty due to greed and selfish desire.

This armour of bountiful treasure is also designed to cut into and hurt anyone that dares to get too close to her.
Movement
The episode has no spoken dialogue. Movement, in the form of a rhythmical dance, is used to express the charactersâ thoughts and emotions. Mielgo manipulates the form and its agility and languid quality as a form of expression. The Renaissance knights, who would be traditionally quite masculine and rigid, move very fluidly and freely once under the influence of the siren. This extreme change emphasises on the effect she has on anyone that hears her screeching.

Metaphors
Although he is immune to her supernatural charms (Fleming, 2022), the allure of the riches draws the knight towards the Siren. The pulchritude blinds him of the facts; she has just seemingly caused his entire platoon of knights to kill each other and she hurts him. The siren seems to want him for herself, regardless of the harm she causes him, and continues to dance closely with him at the cost of his well-being. The episode ends with him ripping the jewels, which is attached to her being, off of her and then washing his face clean of the blood in the water. This then fixes his ears, lifting his immunity to her shriek. She dances and screeches in fury of his betrayal and pulls him back into the lake in a choreographed frenzy, to his death.
Such a toxic relationship, formed only out of selfish desire, will likely end in a manner just as toxic, with those involved hurting each other and in turn, themselves.

Inspiration
Alberto Mielgo has established himself as a standout and influential director and animator, and his insightful work, filled with metaphoric imagery, has long influenced me. My Media 2 animations for the topics of Optical Sound, Red vs Blue and Because I could not Stop for Death (based on the poem by Emily Dickinson) both employ a lot of metaphorical imagery. They all follow relationships - one with an imaginary âshadowâ, another with the characterâs self and the third, with death. I have taken a lot of care in the character design and focused on the setting and the pathing/ journey of the characters a lot through all three projects. The movements all add to the expression of their state, just as much as the metaphors themselves do.
I enjoy symbolism and metaphors a lot and feel like they add several layers to a project and want to continue developing the skill of effectively depicting stories using those.

asteroid Sirene was discovered October 31, 1923 by a German astronomer. the asteroid often goes into the planet Mars' orbit and therefore is categorized as a mars-crossing asteroid. it is named after the classification of sirens in Greek mythology.
originally, sirens were depicted as half bird half women as opposed to the mermaid image we have of them today. their original image was more so aligned with what's known as a harpy. these beings were personifications of wind that often stole people from their families as a result of personal vendettas. our traditional view of sirens is similar in that they often "steal" (more appropriately, lure) men from their crewmates on ships. the important change lies in being forcibly taken to willingly lured.
sirens are often connected to two important women in Greek mythology: Persephone and Venus (aka Aphrodite). when Persephone went missing from her mother, Demeter, it is said that Demeter assigned the sirens to finding her daughter. when they were unsuccessful in their search, Demeter cursed them to live as women who were to lure mortals to their death or kill themselves if they failed. it is also said that sirens were present during Venus' birth, as she's said to have come from a wave in the ocean. their connection to both Persephone and Venus explains why they are depicted as beautiful beings with mesmerizing voices.
a key observation of sirens lies in their relationship with men. it's well known that sirens oftentimes are women that were said to lure male sailors to their death. it's interesting to note that in literature, often written by men, they went from being depicted as beautiful and alluring to unattractive and hideous. one could say this distinct change in physical attraction is the result of men's anger resulting from them being a siren's preferred, if not only, victim.
i'd argue sirens, and therefore their asteroid, are curiously similar to Lilith - the first wife of Adam who was banished because of her failure to follow after him and therefore became a symbol of a free-willing woman that associated with demons and became evil. ultimately, both figures are depicted as damned and immoral women at the result of failure to please men, but i digress in order to go about defining asteroid Sirene.
knowing the backgound of sirens allows for a better interpretation of the asteroid. with such an emphasis on sex in the history and story of sirens, i find it important to specify that the interpretation for sirene will defer between those who identify more so as masculine and those who identify more so as feminine.
for those who identify as more masculine, sirene represents where you tend to fall heads over heels in love. it tells of where and what type of people, specifically women, can lure you to lose all common sense because of how drawn you are to them.
for those who identify as more feminine, sirene shows where and how they draw people, specifically men, to them to lose all common sense because of them. it also tells the type and/or sign of a man that they may always find themselves attracted to - to the point where they want to lure them in.
in numerology, the number 1 acts a sign for one to trust their intuition; the number 9 is a sign for one release what is no longer for them. this connects to sirens in that when it comes to mortals' attraction to sirens this sort of tug of war between intuition and what the heart wants go against what their mind and others tell them to do. mortals so desperately want to hear the siren's song and follow them, but their mind knows that such a want only leads to death.
this falls in line with the final definition of sirene i decided in the preceeding point.

Neptune in 1st/10th - Sexually confusing, you will see what they want you to see, they might change their appearance a lot (Kim K, Kylie). Very alluring in a soft, distant way. Could be very artistically expressive and intriguing. Very vulnerable and people might be naturally very protective of them whether they deserve it or not. They bring out the savior complex in people. (Princess Diana, Marilyn Monroe)
Moon in 1st - Their eyes are dreamy, very reactive and expressive. Even if they are quiet, they eyes speak for them. (Aishwarya Rai - I knew she had Moon in 1st even before I checked if she does. But yes, she is the perfect example. Those beautiful eyes...)
Aquarius Rising, Pisces Rising - distant, quiet and slightly slightly childish and vulnerable. You wouldnât think that of an Aquarius Rising in general but the way they behave usually isnât normal. They are both soft-spoken and kind, but very reclusive. They are alluring in a distant way. I thought of the movie Heavenly Creatures. The title really.Â
The classic answer for mysterious and alluring - Scorpio Rising, Moon, Mars. You can feel their energy even when they arenât trying. You donât get reaction, they sit there and you are the one who has to impress them. They donât share much and you will want to know more. Iâm suprised that Scorpios are labelled as stalkers since usually other people are very interested in them because of how private they are.Â
Virgo anything can give a very alluring vibe. They are generally submissive, maybe apart from Virgo Mars. But the Rising and Venus ones are sweet and have a very soft aura. Like Pisces, but more put-together. Bella Hadid is a perfect example of a Virgo Rising and Venus. So beautifully spoken, kind and doesnât share much. Capricorn Moon, Rising and Mars can give a mysterious vibe because of how private they can be, but their aura is stronger and more independent.

Can we talk about about how Colin looked in ep 1 when he first saw Marina compared to how he looked when he saw Pen in ep 8. Almost the exact same look! Of course his look to Penelope is probably more about his guilt because he brushed her off when she tried to warn him but still..progress! Lol and then when he's getting ready to leave for Greece, he glanced towards Penelope's home. I think they're having Colin's feelings for her grow gradually in the show instead of all of a sudden like in the books.

Indeed, Polin is first and foremost a story of gazes, those gazes being of many natures. Whether they are love ones, friendly ones, admirative ones or lustful ones, looking imposes itself to be a huge parameter in Penelope and Colinâs love story.
In order to understand that on screen, film-making has at its disposal a very rich and smart langage of its own. Sometimes, comparision helps to underlines the differences between one characterâs relationship with person A mirorring person B. I feel like Shondaland and Chris Van Dussen wanted to introduce the audience to the evolution of our Bridgerton menâs perception of Love. For instance, while Anthony views attachementâ to Sienaâ as a way to escape his responsibilities before becoming his villain (...until our queen maâam Kate Sheffield comes to the picture), Benedict doesnât comprehend this universal concept and prefers to enjoy the many physical pleasures life can offer. In other words, the older brothers already explored their sexuality here and there, making them the infamous rakes that they are. As for Colin, itâs a complete other thing.
Colin is young. Very young. At 21, heâs just left Eton College and barely knows anything of the world nor women. Like Anthony said in 1x06, Colin hasnât been taken to brothels which is a very important step in the building of young menâs sentimental and sexual education during that time period. Since he missed this essential step, our sweet/immature boy has no clue about how to deal sagaciously with his feelings and his âfoolishâ impulses, baring his naivety. At this point of the story, we can easily come to the conclusion that Colin is a virgin who canât drive XD. Heâs just a child overcame by his passions, a hopelessly romantic who rushes things without taking the time to properly court or know his significant other. And his off-screen flirtation with those supposed numerous girls in London isnât of any help to justify his (oh so little) experience. So when he sees Marina, heâs so struck by her... mainly by her alluring appearance. And he doesnât seem to let his eyes nor mind go beyond her exquisite beauty.
In this perspective, the whole Colin/Marina storyline can be perceived as a parallelism to the Pen/Colinâs one. In 1x01, he is immediatley smitten with a dancing Miss Thompson, which happens to be ironically the same case with a 17 year-old Pen but with him. We got to see her, a few moments ago, dreamily looking at him from the back of the dancefloor (echoeing the episode where she fell madly in love with him after he fell off his horse at Hyde Park). Sheâs charmed by his dashing look and his kindness, yet she doesnât seem to know anything else about him considering the rare conversations they share. Her burning gaze fits the original story from Julia Quinnâs books because in Romancing Mister Bridgerton, the 28 year-old spinster Penelope do realize later on that Colin is more than a good looking man : heâs a human who possesses a temper and flaws.
Either way, both of our boos are portrayed as hopelessly young people in love who childishly idealize the objects of their affection.
In 1x08, itâs the other way around. Itâs Colin who sees Pen first, her who appears to wear the yellow dressâ lookalike from the pilotâwhat an interesting call back ^^. With his mouth slightly agape and his eyes wide open, we can catch sight of the timid spark of a change in his gaze : Colin Bridgerton notices Penelope Featherington. Heâs touched by the realization that she cares about him. It would be rather inappropriate of me to say that Colin is already in love with her. However, in the finale, I do believe that heâs more struck by her high level of deep care for him than her beauty.
We are thus able to spot two big differences in Colinâs relationship with women in this season : when his attraction to Marina was purely physical and rushed, his attraction with Penelope is more emotional and slow. And for now, he comes to cherish his special bond with her, especially after she tried to warn him of the dangerous trap he was about to fall into. Even if he just sees her as his younger sisterâs best friend right now, Pen matters in his life. And itâs still a little yet important progress for sure.
Speaking of which, I agree with you that this look of awe as well as realization is mostly mixed up with guilt. Since he didnât take into account her words, he felt the strong need to apologize. But bear in mind that guilt formulates a considerable part in Colinâs feelings for Pen... and itâs only the very beginning. In the future, heâll blame himself for not seeing her as the beautiful goddess and siren that she is in the first place. Heâll blame himself for not reciprocating the feelings for her.... Though at the moment, due to his lack of experience with women, Colin is oblivious to Penâs obvious signs of sorrow when he told her heâs leaving for Greece/Cyprus. Next time, heâll detect her sadness and wonât let her go, Iâm sure of it (if he doesnât Iâll riot).
Furthermore, Iâm so glad you brought up the scene where Colin glances at the Featherington house. I had the same thought as well. When you put this still and the one where Pen is crying while looking at her window side by side, it even seems like theyâre looking at each other. In a way, it implicitly confirms Penâs key role in his final decision... After all, sheâs the one who inadvertently inspired him right ?
The act of traveling has always been seen as cathartic since leaving home to discover yourself allows you to heal your broken heart and soul. Itâs natural for Colin to do this. To make his first real steps into the world. His choice is quite relatable more than it is essential for his arc in the series. I canât wait for him to come back all changed, hot ^^ and mature. I think, like you said, they are planning on making him progressively falling in love with her. Colinâs feelings will gradually leave the platonic zone to explore and officially stay in the intimate zone throughout the seasons.
Overall, the Colin/Marina and Colin/Penelope parallel in s1 mostly helps viewers to compare the way Colin evolves from being a stubborn naive boy to a heartbroken young man whoâs aware of his crutial need for Experience. His coming of age, just like Penâs, has just begun. And they will surely lead to our boy changing himself into the true charming rake that heâs meant to be and our girl into a more confident woman. Consequently, I think their story wonât take 10 years but rather at the very least 5 years perhaps to fit the TV timeline. Once Polin will finally be able to discuss, weâll hopefully get to see more interesting nuances and shades added to the portrait they painted of one another over the years. Theyâre indispensable to the slow build up of their emotions/attraction as well as the shattering of their childish idealization/perception of each other.
All in all, Iâm so loving the fact that season 1 beautifully sets up the importance of the gaze in Polinâs love story. This first installment is like an expository scene of a play. It leaves a trail of clues and pieces of information here and there at the reach every viewers who can pick them up and analyze what can be the main themes which will determine one characterâs story arc/romance. With Polin we have : admiration, wit, love and friendship, desillusionment. (I know they are more but itâs all I can think of rn lol).
If weâre already emotional messes just with the mere power of them looking at each other, imagine when theyâll actually talk and share real conversations. Itâs going to be a long way to canon but luv me some good fluffy angsty steamy slow burn :) âš I hope this long of mine answers your ask ahah, even if I talked about many things other than just Polinâs looks. It was a bad day. In your opinion it couldn't have been worse. Since nearly three weeks now you're helping Shakespeare with his new play. Your task was to take care of the costumes, stopping by for cleaning or darning them. But after a few days an actress catched a bad flue and William asked you to take her place.
You happily agreed to his wish. First everything went smooth, it was challenging but also fun. You liked to work with the other actors right away, enjoying their open and caring personalities, but the most important thing: You are able to spend time with Shakespeare.
At first you were only curious about him, you wanted to know more about the great mysterious William Shakespeare, who has left the mansion, and for sure you wanted to find out more about his work. The more time passed by, the more you could see your feelings change.
By this time it is impossible for you to face his glare without trembling legs or hundreds of butterflies in your stomach. William Shakespeare- the perfect gentleman, always treating you with respect and a gentleness that borders on adoration. Plus he is an extremly hard worker, fully dedicated to his plays, he is considerate and charming, he's got a fine sense of humor always making you smile, and his voice... oh you could spend hours only listening to him. In one or two rare moments you were even able to notice a softer, almost shy side at him and at that rare moments you knew you were lost. Helpless to his force of attraction like a planet to the force of gravity from a black hole.
You're really trying hard to hide that you're in love with him.
Who are you at all? Only a normal young woman who fell in love with one of history's greatest men. He deserves better than you. William deserves a woman who is as much talented and captivate as him. So you decided to admire and love him in secrecy.
But unfortunately those secret feelings for him happened to be the reason for your desaster today.
First William adjusted your new costume over and over again. You could feel his hands moving over your body and as he corrected the ribbons of your corset you were at your limit. You sensed his breath in your neck and there was no way to hide the tremble that rushed through your form. "Are you okay? Do you need something?" His enticing voice next to your ear... You almost blurted out 'You!"
With shaky words you explained you only forgot to eat proper this morning. He hummed at your words, then promised to offer after rehearse everything to you what you desire. Ah... Your mind spun.
Later he took place for one of his actors to show how the scene should look like. That ment he held you in his arms and whispered lovingly lines while looking straight into your eyes. You weren't able to remember your part anymore, you barely managed to stutter an excuse and asked embarressed for a small break. Not waiting for the answer you broke from the embrace and hurried off the stage - when the next drama happened.
You lost balance as your long dress stuck to the rail und you fell down the last stair. One of the actors helped you up and you assured quickly to be okay while realising the beautiful costume is ruined. Tearing up you fled the scene without looking back.
And now you're sitting on the chaise in the changing area, desperate, full of shame and tired of yourself.
Hot tears of frustration are spurting out as Shakespeare opens the door slightly. " May I come in?" He asks with a soft voice. A sobb leaves your lips and you try to wipe your tears away as soon as possible."Sure, William". He sits down next to you, trying to meet your gaze. But you are feeling ashamed, looking down, avoiding his eyes. "I.. I am so sorry for ruining the rehearse and the beautiful dress..." another tear rolls down your cheek. With two fingers under your chin Will lifts your head.
"There is no need to apologize, my brave maiden", he whispers and let you drown in his enchanting, mismatched eyes. You can't help it - more tears are spilling out and his other hand reaches up to wipe them away affectionaly. Will's face is so close to yours, you can feel his breath on your skin. He cups your face. "Tis is all my fault and my heart is bleeding with sorrow, knowing I did this to you". You frown. "I don't understand William... Why should my clumpsiness be your fault?"
Staring in your eyes, he sighs. "I know what your heart desires, my fair maiden. Now I know it for sure." His thumbs caress softly your cheeks. "The past days I could see a change in your glare when you looked at me.. and when you thought I wouldn't notice that your eyes are following me". In shock you're holding your breath and you could feel the heat rising in your face.
The playwright shows a small, almost shy smile "But.. I wasn't sure at first, you left me wondering what brought up tis change in your behavior. Mayhap I divined it and I only was afraid to let your very soul whisper to the solidified heart of mine, which didn't know how to respond anymore after so many lonely centuries."Â Will swollows hard "Sometimes I felt a bit confused about you..." he confesses.
"When I made a move upon you, you made a move backwards. Sometimes you took two steps. Then again I thought to glimpse the truth demand of your heart in your eyes. And the thought that it could be me what your heart desires made me weak."
At this point you're questioning reality and your eyes grow wide in disbelieve. Are you fantasizing? Could it be...?
"Yes, I am weak for you my fair maiden..." He continues in a whisper as if he can read your mind. He leans a bit closer, his forehead touching yours. "Tis weakness frightened me" his lips graces your eyebrows, then your cheekbones, a shiver runs down your spine. His lips feel so warm and soft... A whimper leaves your lips and you close your eyes.
"But at sudden my soul obtained greater fears to me." William's lips travel down, brushing your jaw. You inhale the scent of his silken hair and his shaving water. Your mind goes blank and your heart is beating so fast and hard now, you're afraid he can hear it.
"Not to see tis very expression in your eyes because of me anymore. Not having you around me anymore. Never being able to touch you..." Now he whispers in your ear, his lips touching your earlobe ever so slightly and you can't supress a moan. "As I knew my true fears and my deepest longing, I decided to force you to a reaction... And though I feel ashamed for doing tis to you... " William murmurs between tender butterfly kisses he places along your jawline. Shouldn't you be angry now with Shakespeare? But your mind wasn't able to create a reasonable thought and his alluring sing-song voice hypnotizes you. Forgetting everything else, you only want his touch and get lost in your love for him.
"Your oh so sweet, passionate reactions brought tis insecure heart of mine more joy I could ever imagine. For now there is no turning back... Nor for me, nor for you fair maiden."
He stops moving his mouth over your face and with a seductive voice he pleads "Look at me."
With intermittently breath you open your eyes to meet his stare and your heart flutters over the desperate, wanting glance.
"Would you forgive tis poor, troublesome sinner?" Barely able to speak you manage somehow to whisper:"How can I not forgive you, Will? I love you so much."
Moving his fingers through your hair he grabs the back of your head, his eyes now dark and full of pleasure. " To grace me with those words.. they make me dizzy with desire..."
Again Shakespeare leans in closer, his burning eyes glued to your mouth. "And would you allow tis poor sinner who loves you insanely, wildly and infinitely to taste your lips...?"
Your heart misses a beat. Maybe two. This time you skip the answer, pulling him at his collar into a kiss.
William lets out a moan of surprise, throwing his arms around you, pressing your body against his. The kiss grows fast deeper as you feel his tongue flickering against your lips, begging for entrance. Obeying his wish, you let his tongue slip inside and the world around you stops existing.There was nothing you could do but moan into his kiss helplessly. Feeling his demanding tongue pushing in deep, then teasingly intertwinning with yours, while his hands endlessly caress the curves of your body, ruins every yet existing rest of reason. The uprising heat in your veins burns to a point of hurt and starts a raging fire from your belly down to your inner thighs.
Suddenly William breaks the kiss, pulling your head to his chest, where you can hear his speeding heartbeat. "We should stop here my fair temptress, or else I won't be able to hold myself back anymore."
What? No no no... now that you've got a hint of the taste of everything you were craving for the last days, you have no intention to stop so soon. Your body still humming with pleasure you cling to his shoulders and leave a trail of small kisses from his collarbone up to his neck. Rubbing his cheek against yours he whines "Ah my godess, my temptress... " burrying his face at your neck he inhales your scent "You can't imagine how much I crave for your blood... it's calling me, singing alluring to me like a Sirene..."
As his tongue laves over your neck your form trembles and a lewd moan escapes your lips. He found one of your most sensitive spots. His grip at your body tightens. He brushes his soft lips over the spot again with a flickering of his tongue. You can feel your hips bucking at this sensation and you gasp.
"I can't... stand it, I can't resist.." Shakespeare's voice - so needy and trembling with passion.
"Bite me Will!" You blurt out. "I beg you, please bite me!" Does this desperate voice really belong to you?
William hesitates only a brief second, then he pushes your body down, then let his fangs sink into your delicate skin with a groan.
After a sharp but short prick waves of burning, unearthly passion roll through you over and over again.
This passion cannot be human, it sets your entire body immediatly on fire and your core clenches. You can hear Shakespeare crying out as loud as you, pressing his hips against yours. Crying and moaning you start to pass out, repeating his name like a mantra.
As you open your eyes again, William fondles with your hair, observing you with a glance so concerning and lovingly, it almost makes you cry.
"I am so, so sorry... I was too greedy.."
You smile at him. "Don't feel sorry Will, I am doing fine and... " You inhale sharp "and by all the gods, it was.. intense..."
You can feel your desire rising up again only by the thought of what happened before.
Shakespeare watches you with an intense stare, swallowing every reaction your body shows. His fingertips brush lightly over your lips before kissing you fiercly and senseless.
Then he pulls himself away.
He pants, placing a tender kiss on top of your head "I wish to seduce my godess in an adequate ambiance. So I'll take you now home with me, making sure I fulfill every wish and dream you can imagine... " he whispers seductively as he nuzzles his face in your hair. You both hold still for a few minutes, trying to calm down again, just enjoying to embrace each other. Unable to stop smiling, tears sting in your eyes. You can't remember that you felt happier anytime in your life.
