The Bear And The Piano, David’s debut picture book, was published just 5 years ago, but he is already established as one of the UK’s leading illustrators and picture book creators. That debut title won Waterstones Illustrated Book Prize in 2016. Much more recently he has come to attention as the cover illustrator for David Almond’s Bone Music:

The Bear And The Piano became a trilogy with publication in 2019 of The Bear, The Piano, The Dog And The Fiddle and, this year, with the third title The Bear, The Piano And The Little Bear’s Concert.

As a child, what were the first illustrations you remember being pleased with?

I think that it was a drawing of a panda. It was in primary school and we all had to draw one. We then put them all on the wall and I remember feeling a bit arrogant and quietly smug that my panda was definitely one of the best ones on that wall.

Who/what inspired you when you were young?

Again at primary school our teacher sat us all down and read us Where The Wild Things Are. I remember being absolutely blown away by Maurice Sendak‘s drawings and characters and totally felt transported away from the reading mat in that classroom to that dreamy monster island. Mr Sendak and Albert Uderzo were absolutely the two biggest influences on making me want to draw every day.

Who inspires you today?

Still mainly Sendak and Uderzo. But I love finding out about new illustrators. There are an infinite amount of styles and techniques and approaches to drawing and I love being surprised by how different people create a spread or tell their stories. My current 2 favourites are Sydney Smith and Frances Ives. They both have such a free and natural style. They are amazing.

Did you study art/illustration?

I actually studied Graphic Design at Camberwell College of Art. Graphic Design felt like the most sensible career choice in the art world. I loved the course and I met some great people there. But I was really shocked at how little drawing was involved. I think more than anything that course showed me how much I really loved to draw and that I just wasn’t a Graphic Designer.

What is your favourite artist tool/product?

It sounds obvious but a pencil and a sketchbook. My absolute favourite part of a project is when it’s just me, a pencil and a sketchbook and I am just letting the idea develop by scribbling and experimenting and making a mess.

Where do you buy your art supplies?

I have two favourite shops here in Bedford. One is called the Arc which sells all kinds of incredible arts supplies and exotic paints and brushes etc. I also like Coleman’s which is obviously more of a standard stationary shop. But I don’t know, I like their pens. I spend far too much money on pens.

What software/apps do you use?

I only really use Photoshop. I tried to get my head around Illustrator but I’m just not that technically minded to be honest. I have had a play with Pro Create but my kids keep stealing my iPad so I have not had enough time to learn it yet.

What was your first commission?

My first commission happened when I was 13 years old and I drew a poster for a local comic shop. They paid me in comics. My first proper paid commission was with The Beano comic. I think that it was in 2013 or so when the editor Michael Stirling found my drawings online. For a few weeks I drew the illustrations that accompanied a poetry section in the comic. It was amazing to be drawing for a comic I had been in love with for most of my life. I will forever be grateful to that team for giving me that opportunity.

What are you working on at the moment?

I am just finishing drawing a pretty epic book written by Gregory Maguire. After that I’m so happy to be working on another ‘Earth’ book with Stacy McAnulty. I love drawing these books, and I learn so much about our planet too. After that I’m starting a beautiful book with the writer Nell Cross Beckerman which is going to be a total stunner. Towards the end of the year I’m creating artwork for my next author/illustrator book too.

Which is all very exciting. I always feel like I’m being very vague when I don’t give too much info but I’m never sure how much I’m actually allowed to say. What I can tell you is that my author/illustrator book is going to be a Christmas story set in Victorian times.

Twitter or Instagram? Instagram I think. I love Twitter but Instagram just feels a lot friendlier. Also as an illustrator it is a great, visual medium to share work on. I have also found so many new great artists from this site.

Coffee or tea?

I love coffee. But I have had to cut back a lot. I was getting the jitters because I drank it so much. Now I just have two cups a day. And only in the mornings.

Cat or dog?

Oh my goodness Dog. Dog every time. I always had dogs growing up. They were my best friends. We got a dog last summer. I was adamant that my two boys should have a dog growing up. My wife wasn’t that convinced I don’t think but now that we have one she loves her as much as we do.

Grape or grain?

Hmmm, both good, but I would have to say grape.

Sunrise or sunset?

Sunset. I don’t know if it’s a getting older thing but I love sitting in my garden as the sun starts to go down. It’s like a magic time of the day where everything is winding down and becoming peaceful.

What do you listen to when you are working?

Mainly loud rock music. But I’ve also started to listen to a fair few podcasts. My favourite ones at the moment are ‘Pod Save America‘- helps me get my head around American politics, which I can sometimes find quite baffling from time to time- and The Force Center – which is a massively geeky Star Wars podcast which has none of the snark and negativity of other fandom type discussions. I recommend it if you are a Star Wars nerd like me.

Part 34: Losing My Religion

The Magnus Archives was a horror podcast. It is now completed. Many of the show’s mysteries were never explained on the show. I intend to explain them. Spoilers for the show, but also spoilers if you wanna solve these mysteries yourself. In Rotten Core, in 2013, Adelard is dying. He is a Christian, saying he will go to his reward and that he has done his duty for God.

In Reflection in 2009 Adelard is a Christian saying “God grant me clarity to act when I need it.”

In Breathing Room, circa 2012 Adelard does not believe in the afterlife: ”It’s odd, isn’t it? Sleep. That you can never remember or fully pin down the exact moment you lose consciousness. Just lying there, waiting to find yourself in a dream without the first clue or interest in how or when you got there. Or to find your eyes closed and force them open to sunlight and morning, only realizing that sleep has happened in retrospect. I wonder if… death is the same way? No clear dividing line, just… gone, only to realize after it’s happened, except for the fact that there isn’t an after.”

Why was Adelard a Christian in 2009 and 2013 but not in 2012?

In Rotten Core John Amherst infects a town. The infected people turn into horrible things that crawl towards the parking lot. In the parking lot Amherst waits, sitting on a throne made of several of those things. Then Adelard Dekker shows up, fights Amherst and buries him in concrete. But Adelard has been infected and is dying. He e-mails his statement to Gertrude stating his intentions. He will use petrol and burn himself and as many infected people as he can. And he intends to sit on the throne as he burns.

Hold on. That last bit is weird. Why would he sit on that disgusting throne?

Rotten Core seem to be about an attempted ritual by the Corruption. It happens on the 14th August 2013.

In Love Bombing there seems to be an attempted ritual for the Corruption. The statement about it is given 2nd April 2012, and the ritual probably happened not too long before then.

Why are there two Corruption rituals so close in time? When a ritual fails, its fear is not supposed to be able to make another attempt for hundreds of years.

In Part 3, I said Amherst is an avatar of both the Corruption and the Desolation. And I think Rotten Core was about a combined Corruption-Desolation ritual. And how was the ritual supposed to end? I think the infected people were supposed to gather around the throne, where Amherst would sit. And then they would all burn, the people, the throne and Amherst.

So when Adelard traps Amherst, the Powers don’t want the ritual to fail. They begin manipulating Adelard’s mind. They make him think it’s his own idea to sit on the throne. Adelard sits on the throne and burns. The ritual succeeds. The Desolation and the Corruption is let into the world.

Gertrude notices. She’s got Adelard’s e-mail and understands his mistake. She travels back in time. (see Part 33 about Gertrude’s time travel.) She arrives in 2012 or earlier. She explains to Dekker what has happened. They stop Amherst again, this time much sooner.

They maybe trap him in concrete again as in Like Ants John used Eye knowledge to say Amherst got trapped in concrete.

They stop Amherst too soon, before his ritual attempt starts. So the Corruption gets another attempt as a ritual, as described in Love Bombing.

All this causes Dekker to lose his faith. Perhaps knowing that a ritual can succeed makes Dekker think God can’t be real. Breathing Room is from the second timeline where he is not religious. Reflection is from the original timeline where he is.

(In Part 32 I said the next post would have the most important reason for why Elias was wrong about why the rituals failed. Then I forget I said that and split up the post I was originally planning to post next. So this then is the post with the reason. The reason Elias was wrong about why the rituals failed, is because one ritual had succeeded, but in a different timeline.)

Figure Skating Events: Fanfiction Guideline

(AKA: The guide I’m writing out because I figured there had to be more skating competitions that the Grand Prix series, Nationals, 4CC, Olympics, and Worlds but god are the Wikipedia pages for them a mess.)

So, the Wikipedia page for the list of figure skating events is vaguely a mess if you intend to use it for Yuri on Ice fanfiction like I do, so I took some time to read through it and make sense of the qualifications, multiple listings/renaming of events, outdated/short-lived events, and missing hyperlinks to pages about the events. I’ll try to link everything I can and hope I don’t mess up.

Fall Events:

ISU Grand Prix Series/Junior ISU Grand Prix Series

These series are specifically for the top ranking international skaters, and they are both slightly different between senior and junior levels. It was formerly named the ISU Champion Series. I’ve listed approximate dates they are held on.

Grand Prix for Seniors has 6 Events:

Skate America (~Oct. 18-20)

Skate Canada International (~Oct. 25-27)

Cup of China (~Nov. 8-10) *Note in 2018 was temporarily replaced with Cup of Helsinki but resumed in 2019

Trophée de France (~Nov. 13-15)

Rostelecom Cup (~Nov. 15-17)

NHK Trophy (~Nov. 22-24)

Grand Prix Final (~Dec. 10-13)

The Junior Grand Prix has different qualifying events but shares the final with the senior event. It usually has ~7 qualifying events that alternate every year from a list of 35 events. Meaning the qualifying events change from year to year.

*Note Uzbeikistan was supposed to be a new 2020 event and an additional 36th event.

There is also another skating competition series that is ranked directly below the Grand Prix Series but above the other competitions called:

The ISU Challenger Series (Created in 2014)

This series is also held in the fall around the same time (August 1st-December 15th) as the Grand Prix Series. It is a senior only event, but some events predate the series and have junior competitions that are not part of the series.

Events:

Asian Open Trophy (~Oct. 30th-Nov. 3): This event existed prior to the Challenger Series and was called The Asian Figure Skating Championships. It is either held in China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Philippines or Taipei. It has existed since 2007 and was a Challenger Series event in 2018 & 2019. Until 2018, it was only open to Asian Countries. It is both Junior and Senior Level. *Note was not held in 2009.

Autumn Classic International (Sept.12-14th): It has existed since 2014 and occurs in Canada. It is a Junior and Senior Level event. *Note it was not a Challenger Event in 2015.

Finlandia Trophy (~Oct. 9-11th): This competition predates the Challenger Series and was established in 1995.Is held in Finland. It is a senior level event only. Has been part of Challenger since 2014.

Golden Spin of Zagreb (~Dec.5-8th): This predates the Challenger and is held in Croatia. It has always been a senior level event and Junior since 2017. Only the senior level event is Challenger.

Ice Star (~Oct. 18-20th): Predates the challenger series and has only been included in 2017 & 2019. Held in Belarus.

Lombardia Trophy (~Sept. 13-15th): Predates 2013 and is event since 2014 but not in 2015. Held in Italy. Has both Juniors and Seniors.

Nebelhorn Trophy (~Sept. 25-28th): Predates 1969 as seniors only. Challenger event since 2014. Held in Germany.

Ondrej Nepela Trophy (~Sept. 19-21st): Predates 1993 as seniors only. Challenger event since 2014. Held in Slovakia.

Warsaw Cup (~Nov. 14-17th): Existed since 2012, seniors and Juniors. Challenger since 2014 except for 2018. Held in Poland.

U.S. International Classic (~Sept. 17-22nd): Existed since 2012 and Challenger since 2014. Seniors only.

*Note: You can use Figure Skating Fandom Wiki to see what countries participate.

Former events: Denkova-Staviski Cup (2015 Oct. 20-25th Bulgaria), Inge Solar Memorial – Alpen Trophy (2018, Nov. 11-18th Austria), Ice Challenge (2014,2015, Nov. 11-16 & Oct. 27-31st , Austria), Mordovian Ornament (2015, Oct. 15-18th, Russia), Tallinn Trophy (2015-2018, Mid Nov. Estonia), Volvo Open Cup (2014, Nov. 5-9th Latvia).

After both Fall series end in December most countries have a National Championship or send skaters based on their international ranking.

After that there are ISU Championships.

1. European Figure Skating Championships AKA Europeans (January)

2. Four Continents Figure Skating Championships AKA 4CC (February)

3. World Junior Figure Skating Championships (Late February/ Early March)

4. World Figure Skating Championships (4th Monday of Feb. & 2 weeks after 4CC or Europeans)

Bonus: The Nordic Championships but only Christophe Giacometti would compete.

There is also a list of Annual competitions that do not fall under these categories.

International Cup of Nice: (Oct-Nov in Nice,France) Has been held since 1995 with the exception of 2005. Both Senior and Junior event.

Bavarian Open: (Early Feb. in Germany) Has been an ISU event since 2011. Both Senior and Junior Event.

Egna Spring Trophy: (End March Italy) Held since 2011, both Junior and Senior event.

Coupe Du Printemps/Spring Cup: (March Luxembourg) Held since 2012, both Junior and Senior events.

Japan Open: (~Oct. 5)

The Japan Open is an annual senior international figure skating team competition organized by the Japan Skating Federation. The current format (team event) was established in 2006. The competition is held every autumn in Japan. Invited skaters compete in the disciplines of men’s and ladies’ singles. Skaters perform a free program but no short. Individual results are combined for a team standing.

Medals Winner Open: An event held in 2012 (Oct.), 2015, 2016 (Jan.) by the JSF and sanctioned by ISU. Invitational event for skaters that won medals in major ISU competitions like Grand Prix, Europeans,4CC, Worlds & Olympics. It’s a senior only event where skaters preform only a free program and they are scored heavily on artistic values. Was hosted in Japan.

World Team Trophy: (~April 16-19, Japan) Held in 2009, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2017, & 2019. A team competition between six countries ( the US, Canada, Japan, France, Russia and China).

Multi-Sport Events Hosted on alternative Years/ Non-Olympic

Winter Universiade: Held every 2 years since 1960′s (expect between ‘72 & ’81). Is a multi sport event. Dates vary.

Winter Asian Games: Held in 1986,1990,1996,1999,2003,2007,2011, & 2017. Is a multi sport event. Dates vary. Held in Japan, China, South Korea, or Kazakhstan.

Obviously the Olympics as well but I shouldn’t need to mention but the official last event of the year is:

Triglav Trophy. It is held in April in Slovenia, and is both a senior and junior event.

Okay, so I think I covered every competition that a male single’s figure skater could compete in during the time frame of the Yuri on Ice characters skating careers. These were all pulled from the List on Wikipedia and organized over several hours. Hopefully there are no issues with the links.

28 is not a Larry number - a masterpost

Since @theystudyrainbows has decided to put all the Larrie delusions on this number in one handy masterpost, why not debunk it all in one go?

Even the introduction is a mess. The 28 is not “a One Direction fandom mystery” at all. It’s Louis’ jersey number that he was assigned at Doncaster Rovers and that he has since then adopted. But then again, Liam’s kidney and the Belfast canceled concert are not mysteries either

How decent of you to say that some of these are coincidences, considering literally all of the following is bullshit

The fact that “too many people to name” contributed to write this drivel makes my heart ache

Harry has no connection to the number 28 whatsoever

The problem with you attempting numerology is that there are only 9 possible digits (as the addition of two numbers can never be zero). So, you clown yourselves because it leads to this

Eleanor was born on July 16th 1992:

7+1+6+1+9+9+2 = 35

3+5 = 8

Oh no!

But also, Zayn was born on January 13th 1992:

1+1+3+1+9+9+2 = 26

2+6 = 8

(: Ya see how that’s just not good?

Not only that, but also, as I said, Harry has no connection to the number 28, but for shits and giggles

Kendall Jenner was born on November 3rd 1995:

1+1+3+1+9+9+5 = 29

2+9 = 11

1+1 = 2

So.. basically this is worthless information that you pulled out of your ass. Or I could easily claim that 28 is an Elounor or a Hendall number

You also use this method to count Harry and Louis’ X Factor numbers, but as we’ve established, there are only 9 options, the odds are stacked for this coincidence

How is that 28? That’s 82.. A completely different number. In the UK the date is written day/month/year. So the “same gig” was the 8th day of the 2nd month. 82. It’s very funny that, since you’re Italian and live in the UK (both countries that use the day/month/year system) you’ve written every date so far that way, but now that you want to say this other random date is connected to 28, you switched to month/day/year.

Also, where is the year in this equation? We’ve been using the entire date so far, but now we’re only focusing on the day and month? (and switching order?) That seems very convenient. Almost like, if you try hard enough, any date can add up to 28 in some way?

November 17th 2011, Louis and Eleanor’s anniversary: 11+17=28! Oh no! DRATS! It’s still an Elounor number!

And now we’re just ignoring the month and only focusing on the day. And not only that, but ignoring half the time they were there (the 27th) to only focus on the 28th. That is, once again, very convenient

But continuing with your own ridiculous logic. We know that Louis and Eleanor went to V Fest together in 2011, because Eleanor said so on twitter when Sugarscape wondered if the “brown haired girl” holding hands with Louis at V Fest was her

V Fest was on August 20th and 21st 2011. What do you know? 20+8 = 28! Damn... this is getting suspicious. Louis!!! Did you get the 28 for Eleanor? :)

Harry has not used the 28 number AT ALL. Louis hasn’t used the 28 as his jersey number “often,” he started using it in 2013 when it was assigned to him by the Doncaster Rovers when he was signed as a semi professional player

The article is from September 2013 and John Ryan, the chairman of the Rovers, explains that 28 was HIS number, that HE used for a match. Soccer players have assigned numbers throughout the season, and the number 28 had been retired from the line up after John Ryan used it in 2003. He decided to bring it back to give it to Louis. And Louis was signed as a soccer player professionally with that number. That’s why it’s important to him, you bag of nonsense. This was his life long dream in the club he loved. He probably spent hours and hours daydreaming about being signed professionally to play soccer and when he finally accomplished that, it was with the number 28, so of course it’s gonna be important to him!

Find ONE INSTANCE of Louis using the number 28 before the summer of 2013. ONE. You won’t! The tattoo came after that, him wearing it on his jerseys came after that. According to Larrie Lore Harry and Louis started dating in 2011 (apparently September 28th 2011, go figure), but for two full years neither of them did anything related to the number 28 whatsoever!

Why didn’t Louis wear the 28 in his first charity match in 2012?

The fact that he wore 17, which is his and Eleanor’s anniversary. LMAO can you say ouch? Furthermore, Louis didn’t CHOOSE the 28, it was ASSIGNED to him because it was the symbolic number the chairman had used back in 2003. It was a retired number that no player had used for 10 years, and they decided to give it to him as a gesture. Man, that would be a HUGE coincidence if out of 40 something available numbers in a soccer line up, Louis had wanted exactly the one that was retired and meant a whole lot for the chairman, instead of the chairman offering it to Louis, like LOGIC says. Another HUGE coincidence that he had not bothered with the 28 at all up until that point and then started having it everywhere. But I thought Larries hated those?

After this you list all the times Louis has used the 28, which there are a lot, but all come after 2013, I don’t want to add more pointless screenshots here. Doncaster Rovers jersey (from 2013 on), dodgeball jersey (2015), in ears (2015), tattoo (2015), BTY music video (2017), LTHQ’s first IG username (2017), his playlist (2018/2019)

How is that... 28? That’s 90028. And this isn’t a date, where you can just pick the number apart as you wish. This is a zip code for a secret show the Rolling Stones played in LA in 2015

Not only that, but Harry (and this is hilariously tragic for you) was ACTUALLY AT THE GIG! THAT’S WHY HE POSTED THE PHOTO!

Let’s see the different tactics that you used

Adding two completely different dates together, that have absolutely no correlation. How are Sweet Creature, Harry’s promo single, and the music video for a different single, related in any way? What? Why not Kiwi’s music video? Why not Two Ghosts music video? Why not the release of either of those singles to radio? Can you make it any more obvious that you’re just pulling this completely out of your ass?

He stops playing and singing at 2.40. Then speaks until 2.43. Then the “pause” which is just him trying to get the audience to stop screaming until 3.07 when he says (I can’t really make it out) “now you” or something like that. And then he says “for your eyes...” and lets the audience sing at 3.09. Literally none of these timestamps add to 28 and he had no way of counting to 28 since he was silencing people the entire time. And just like when he switched “I have love you since we were 18″ to “I have loved you since I was 16″ hitting his own chest, or when he said he fell in love to What Makes You Beautiful, you missed the entire point of this bit, which is Harry’s LOVE FOR HIS FANS

He has loved us since he was 16, he fell in love to us to What Makes you Beautiful, and he was letting us sing that part of the song every concert. He “paused” to shush the nonsensical screams, then he would give the audience the cue and let them sing. Several times he dedicated the song to specific fans in the audience, people with cancer, little kids, a fan that had neck surgery. By making it about Larry, you stripped it from its actual meaning and Harry’s love for his fans. But you always do shit like that

Matisse: Life & Spirit November 2020 – March 2021 Art Gallery of New South Wales, NSW

Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards (NATSIAA) August 8th 2020 – January 31st 2021 Museum and Art Gallery Northern Territory, NT

Now in its 36th year, the Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards (NATSIAA) is a major highlight for the Museum and Art Gallery of Northern Territory (MAGNT) in Darwin. This fantastic exhibition spotlights emerging and established Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists across a varying range of mediums, and attracts more than 85,000 visitors.

This exhibition is so important for visitors to gain an insight into First Nations People’s perspective in both contemporary interpretations, as well as those steeped in generations of tradition. It also offers some prize money of up to $50,000 for winning artists, courtesy of longtime sponsor Telstra. All finalists’ work will be displayed in the world-class exhibition, opening in August.

Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art February 29th – June 8th 2020 Art Gallery South Australia, SA

This year the Art Gallery of South Australia welcomes the hugely popular Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art back for its 30th year. Known for its risk-taking and expansive vision, the Biennial welcomes the wild, wacky, weird and wonderful.

The theme of the 2020 iteration is Monster Theatres, inviting artists to bring to life the ‘monsters’ of today. As described by curator Leigh Robb, ‘Monsters ask us to interrogate our relationships with each other, the environment and technology. They force us to question our empathy towards differences across race, gender, sexuality and spirituality.’

Artists involved in the Biennial include Abdul Abdullah, Polly Borland, Yhonnie Scarce + many more!

Brisbane’s Gallery of Modern Art never fails to disappoint with its innovative, world-class programming – and Water is no exception! Exploring the theme of, you guessed it, Water, this exhibition explores this vital element from the perspective of artists around the world.

‘Walk across a vast, rocky riverbed created by Olafur Eliasson. See animals from around the world gather together to drink from Cai Guo-Qiang’s brilliant blue waterhole. Stanislava Pinchuk June 27th – October 4th 2020 Heide Museum of Modern Art, VIC

Stanislava Pinchuk (also known by her pseudonym, Miso) has emerged as one of Australia’s intriguing contemporary artists in the last decade. The Ukranian-born, Melbourne-based artist captures the changing topographies of war and conflict zones through data mapping, making tiny, individual pin pricks to realise these patterns – an incredibly labour-intensive and mentally and physically draining process that appears effortless, and beautiful.

This major exhibition at Heide Museum of Modern Art in Melbourne will feature a survey of Stanislava’s most powerful pinprick projects from the past five years, accompanied by terrazzo-like sculptures comprised of pieces of debris left behind in conflict zones.

Know My Name: Australian Women Artists 1900 to Now May 30th – September 13th 2020 National Gallery of Australia, ACT

The National Gallery of Australia (NGA) celebrates its ongoing initiative to increase representation of artists who identify as women with Know My Name: Australian Women Artists 1900 to Now.

Drawing on works from the National Gallery’s own collection, as well as others from across Australia, Know My Name showcases the work of lesser-known artists alongside Australian greats from different times, places and cultures.

As part of the broader Know My Name initiative, a new commission by the Tjanpi Desert Weavers will be on display at the National Gallery. Patricia Piccinini’s iconic Skywhale (2013) will also see its new counterpart, Skywhalepapa (2020) ascend over Canberra on its maiden voyage, travelling alongside Skywhale eight times during the exhibition period.

While Sydney-siders enjoy the masterful works of Henri Matisse, Melbournites won’t miss out on the opportunity to experience an incredible exhibition of another beloved French painter! The exquisite works of Pierre Bonnard will be on show at the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) for their major winter showcase, a kaleidoscopic exhibition of 150 works from the painter with a fondness for domestic scenes and rural life. Pierre Bonnard has been developed in partnership with Musee d’Orsay in Paris.

Described by Matisse, a close friend of Bonnard’s, as ‘a great painter, for today and definitely also for the future’, this groundbreaking exhibition spans paintings, drawings, photographs, folding screens and early cinema, depicting scenes of modern 20th century France in bright, vivid colours.

Aside from the opportunity to see one of the works of this beloved painter, what makes this exhibition absolutely unmissable is the design of the show itself. Iranian Paris-based designer India Mahdavi (the interiors genius behind the iconic pink Gallery at Sketch restaurant in London) has been commissioned by the NGV to bring Bonnard’s extraordinary works to life, elegantly balancing historical references with contemporary culture in an immersive experience.

22nd Biennale of Sydney, NIRIN November 8th 2020 – 16th February 2021 Various locations, NSW

First held in 1973 as part of the opening celebrations of the Sydney Opera House, the Biennale of Sydney is now in its 22nd year and is one of Australia’s blockbuster contemporary art events.

Taking place across six major sites – Art Gallery of New South Wales, Artspace, Campbelltown Arts Centre, Cockatoo Island, Museum of Contemporary Art Australia and the National Art School – the Biennale of Sydney will see 94 artists from 47 countries

Under the guidance of multidisciplinary artist and this year’s Biennale Artistic Director Brook Andrew, the 12-week exhibition is titled NIRIN, meaning ‘edge’ in Brook’s mother’s Nation – the Wiradjuri people of western New South Wales. He says, ‘Optimism from chaos drives artists in NIRIN to resolve the often hidden or ignored urgency surrounding contemporary life.’

Australia’s largest multi-arts centre, Carriageworks, has been home to some pretty major large-scale installation commissions in its time (who could forget German artist Katherina Grosse’s otherworldly technicoloured universe in 2018?). This summer, four new site-specific commissions from leading Australian artists Rebecca Baumann, Daniel Boyd, Kate Mitchell and Reko Rennie have taken residence in the epic historical space.

Spanning over 100-metres, Rebecca Baumann’s Radiant Flux sees every glass surface of the building’s exterior covered in a film that changes colour at every angle, flooding the space with kaleidoscopic light that will never be the same twice.

A study in human energy, All Aurus Touch by Kate Mitchell captures an aura portrait for each of the 1,023 census-recognised occupations.

Video Works by Kudjala/Gangalu artist Daniel Boyd features three major video installations, where gallery walls will be mapped with the artist’s otherworldly, infinite cosmos.

Interdisciplinary Kamilaroi artist Reko Rennie references the massacre of First Nations people in Remember Me, a massive illuminated sign that will remain on display for the whole of 2020, the year marking the 250th anniversary of Captain Cook’s first landfall.

The Archibald, Wynne & Sulman Prizes are some of the most prestigious and highly anticipated art events in the country. Since its inception in 1921, The Archibald Prize the most well-known of the three awards celebrates paintings of notable figures that reflect Australian culture across areas including art, media, entertainment, politics, sports and more. The works are always a great capsule to represent Australian culture of the moment.

A(N ESTIMATED ) TIMELINE FOR SHERLOCK

PLEASE NOTE: John’s Blog and the show contradict each other at times, in these cases, the show will be taken as canon. In times where the show contradicts itself, if other media cannot solve the mix up, then estimates based on what makes the most real world sense will be used to find an answer.

ADDITIONALLY: I don’t want to get flooded with everyone's headcanons for things where estimates had to be made; but i greatly welcome canon information that might have been missed or ( ie: The Game is Now Escape Room ) have been unable to experience. I also do not consider interviews with cast and crew as reliable sources for the most part, as these answers have also changed throughout the years. It will only be given consideration if nothing else contradicts it and was said without the air of taking the mickey out of us as many interactions with fans have. They like to say things just to get us going. So I consider this less of a word of god and more of a word of the clown.

BIRTHDATES:

SHERLOCK HOLMES: January 6th, 1981 ( stated in The Casebook ); making him younger than the actor playing him. However, this does conflict slightly as Sherlock states he was nine years old when Carl Powers drowned, and the article claims it was in 1989, which places his birth in 1980 instead. This was before they gave Sherlock a canonical birthdate in any media, however, and for the purposes of this, we’ll be using the casebook age, and claiming Sherlock was either rounding or misremembering due to the fact his childhood memories are not entirely factual. Additionally, the headstone image shown in The Sherlock Chronicles says 1977, but the previous date is the one considered to be Canon. ( See Notes )

JOHN WATSON: unknown, but somewhere in the 70′s. A popular fandate is March 30th. Judging off of the actor’s age, possibly around 1971, but maybe younger as many actors are playing younger than themselves.

MYCROFT HOLMES: Exact date unknown, but he is seven years older than Sherlock, which puts him to be born around 1973-1974. Which makes him canonically younger than the actor playing him. 02/25/19 EDIT: According to sources, Mycroft is given a birthdate in the Escape Room based on the series, October 20th, 1968. While the October date works fine, year for this doesn't fit the "Seven Years Older" claim on the show. The oldest birth date given for Sherlock is 1977 and that would make Mycroft nine years older than Sherlock, not seven. The year given falls closer to Mark Gatiss' actual age, and leaves me inclined to think that perhaps year for the game isn't entirely factual. That being said, there's still no reason he couldn't have been born October 20th. Based on the "Seven Years Older" claim, stated in show, the best guess is October 20th, 1974.

EURUS HOLMES: Exact date unknown, but she is a year younger than Sherlock, which makes her born somewhere in 1982-1983 depending on when she was conceived.

MARY WATSON: Unknown, but based on the actress’ age, likely 1974; but maybe younger as many actors are playing younger than themselves.

ROSAMUND “ROSIE” WATSON: January 2015. We can infer this because based on how far along Mary was at her wedding, Rosie would have been conceived Mid-April, and if she was relatively ontime, she’d be born late January.

DATES OF NOTE:

REDBEARD / THE MUSGRAVE FIRE: Between 1988-1989 roughly; there is no clear indication on the show as to when these events took place. We can only summarize based on what we know about other events. We know that Sherlock "began" solving crimes at age nine ( see below ) due to Carl Powers; and we know that Sherlock had to be younger than ten years old during the events told in The Final Problem. Assuming that the tragic events of Carl Powers triggered something in him, making him take extra notice due to his own past experiences with Eurus and Victor; but still allowing time for all the events to take place and enough time to have passed for Sherlock to have rewritten the story so completely in his head where he can be suspicious but not fully triggered; I'd place him as seven or eight during these events.

Sherlock traveled to and from Minsk sometime between the events of The Blind Banker and The Great Game; based on the dates given, as well as the close air dates of the two episodes, it’s to be believed that Sherlock left and returned from Minsk on March 28th. This is also made plausible due to the funding Sherlock seems to have for himself, his impatience and the fact that it is a three hour flight each way.

We don’t know the exact amount of time transpiring between New Years Eve and this point. Based on his track record, it’s likely January 15th is meant to be the date that Sherlock is told Irene is in Witness protection ( John seems to publish immediately, regardless of how tasteful it might be to reveal details of recent cases ). This gap would cover everything from Irene arriving at Baker Street, Sherlock going to the airfield, him beating Irene at the game, and saving her in Karachi. It’s likely, considering how erratic Sherlock is by early March with no cases, that the day John tells Sherlock the lie, is around late January / early February. Allowing Sherlock enough time to have done all of this as well as get riled up in time for Baskerville, which had to have occured before March 16th

CASE: THE HOUNDS OF BASKERVILLE: Early March 2011; by best estimates given as John doesn’t take too long to post his accounts of the events, and he had already finished typing up the case prior.

BASKERVILLE CASE POSTED: March 16th, 2011. This is also the same date Moriarty hacks John’s blog with a video of him inside of their flat. Suggesting he’s already free from his interrogation shown at the end of The Hounds of Baskerville.

The dates surrounding Sherlock’s death and The Reichenbach Fall are highly questionable as the episode, the blog, and logistics for certain events all contradict each other. Joe Lidster, who wrote John’s real world blog, has comically said that Moriarty hacking the blog gave it a virus that messed with the dating system, as a tongue in cheek explanation. Meaning if we were to take that as fact, all the dates in the blog could be false. The newspapers shown in the episode, have dates that suggest different things. I’ve chosen the one which makes the most sense, based on the news reel clip on John’s blog, the statement that he went to therapy three months later, the school holiday schedule for the abduction of the Ambassador’s children and several other people’s attempts to sort this all out. His Last Vow has the opposite problem as the series finale prior, in which next to no dates are given. We only know the dates at the end of the episode. Just that the events of John getting restless, Sherlock using again, Magnussen visiting, Sherlock being shot, Sherlock leaving early to confront Mary, Sherlock leaving to confront Magnussen, John confronting Mary, Sherlock being taken to Hospital again and being released all happen between May 13th and December 25th, 2014. It can take a couple months for gunshot victims to be released from Hospital, depending on the severity. Applying Mycroft Rules and Television Rules we know that Sherlock likely didn’t stay the time a regular patient would have. Knowing Sherlock he would have wanted out as soon as possible. We know John and Mary were at odds for a bit, reconciling on Christmas. Plus there needed to be time for Sherlock to fake date Janine, John to reach the level of restlessness there was and get Charles’ attention. So these next few dates are estimates. The majority of the scenes shown in episode are out of order and happen in two time periods, before Mary’s revealed and Christmas Day.

The only way both can be remotely accurate is if Mycroft is rounding up, and it’s December 31st, 2014.

ROSIE WATSON’S BAPTISM: March / April 2015; based on many modern traditions, the baby’s age and the style of clothing worn by the attendees.

The Six Thatchers covers the majority of one calendar year, no exact dates are given but we can surmise things based on the shown development of Rosie Watson ( whom we know to be a year old by the end of The Final Problem ). Rosie is shown to have full head support and movement before Mary dies, which is something that happens around six months. This would mean Mary’s still alive around June 2015. Allowing for time in which Mary is on the lam, leading to the aquarium, the following are my best guesses for events.

MARY IS MISSING: Summer 2015 ( how long she was gone for is unclear )

MARY IS BACK IN LONDON: September 2015

NORBURY SHOOTS MARY: October 2015

SHERLOCK RECEIVES MARY’S VIDEO / JOHN’S LETTER: Late October. 2015 / Possibly Early November 2015

CASE: THE LYING DETECTIVE: Possibly Mid-December 2015 / Early January 2016

Another case of ‘we don’t know how long’; we know Sherlock returns from hospital on his birthday, but the dates in between are unclear. Nor do we know how long John and Sherlock didn’t speak for. Sherlock would have needed a major detox, as well as treatment for his injuries. Based on the timeframe, it’s unlikely he attended any form of inpatient rehab outside of whatever the hospital had on location due to his injuries. Possibly due to either Mycroft pulling strings, or the more likely, Sherlock refusing and signing himself out when able.

We also know that the jump from The Lying Detective and The Final Problem can’t be too long. Even though Sherlock has had a magical recovery from all ailments between episodes, it’s extremely unlikely that John sat on the ‘I was almost killed by your secret sister’ tidbit for a few weeks. Meaning these episodes likely happen very shortly after one another. It also feels unlikely that Eurus would make herself known to John and then wait weeks/months to then begin acting out again once the secret was revealed.

JOHN AND SHERLOCK’S REUNITING: January 6th, 2016

JOHN’S FINAL THERAPY SESSION WITH EURUS: Somewhere between January 6th - January 13th 2016; assuming he went about once a week.

CASE: THE FINAL PROBLEM: January 13th, 2015 - January 20th, 2016; presuming John was able to tell Sherlock after ( not knowing how long he was knocked out for ); and allowing Sherlock and John some time to figure out their next move. This would also cover the attack on Baker Street and the entire event on Sherrinford Island.

ROSIE WATSON’S FIRST BIRTHDAY: Mid/Late January, 2016

OTHER NOTES:

The Entire Series spans six years.

The Sherlock Timeline runs one year behind real world time, with the show’s episodes in universe during 2016, aired in January 2017

Sherlock Holmes would be 29 in A Study In Pink, and 35 by The Final Problem based on the Casebook date. 30 and 36 by The Carl Powers age. and 33 and 39 by The Sherlock Chronicles age. All would make him younger than Benedict Cumberbatch, born 1976.

An incorrect headstone, as seen in The Sherlock Chronicles would make sense with the fact that until The Lying Detective, John states he never knew his birthdate. Which, had his tombstone had it, would make little sense. Providing an in universe reason for this odd lack of knowledge on John’s part. Perhaps John merely guessed? Maybe Mycroft knew he wouldn’t want it known, so they put a fake date? Especially as Mycroft knew he was alive. Otherwise, this is just another plot inconsistency --- which, I’m getting quite tired of.

We don’t know when Mary and John first met, but we can infer they’ve known each other about a year from dialogue in The Six Thatchers when John is attempting to propose.

Alternate timelines surrounding The Reichenbach Fall sometimes claim the following dates: Sherlock Testifies: May 9th, 2011; Moriarty is freed and visits 221B: September 20th, 2011; The Kidnapping: November 19th, 2011; Sherlock Falls: November 20th, 2011. This comes from a couple on screen newspaper clippings; but they are contradictory to the stated three month interval stated. It’s up to fans to decide which version they feel is more accurate.

More of a musing, but it’s kind of interesting how many times John immediately runs to the internet to share the details of really recent cases fresh in the public’s mind; in contrast to Watson’s monologue in The Abominable Bride about how careful he is to avoid doing that very thing. Which is even funnier if you view it through the long standing canon lens of John is an Unreliable Narrator

#5yrsago Crad Kilodney, 1948-2014

Jenny Hart remembers the self-published Toronto author and his "sweet, vulgar, offensive, sometimes boring, funny and beautiful to read" words

Since the death of Crad Kilodney on April 14th 2014, I have been following the news articles, speculative blog posts about his life, newfound interest in his cult-status as a Canadian writer and his reputation for being a ‘misanthrope’. At the same time, I have been going through eleven years of letters, cards, writings, audio and VHS tapes from him to me.

I met Crad Kilodney for the first time in 1992, when I was 19 years old. My brother was living in Toronto at the time and Scott had become friends with Crad. My brother was excited to introduce me to this man he described as “walking A-R-T.” I visited my brother in Toronto and we hung out with Crad multiple times. After I left, Crad and I began a monthly correspondence of long, hand-written letters and phone calls that would continue for the next eleven years. During this time, we were one another’s best friends and closest confidants. If I needed someone to pour my heart out to, I wrote or phoned Crad. He did the same. We each felt we had no true friends in our lives, except for one another.

Crad’s letters could be sweet, vulgar, offensive, sometimes boring (he became obsessed with giving me stock market tips), funny and beautiful to read. As an author, I loved his writing and had him send me copies of “Girl on the Subway” and “Putrid Scum”.

In 1999 Crad wrote to me shortly after he stopped selling his books on the street:

“(there’s an) emotional state I often felt on the street, particularly when walking home at the end of a day when it was already dark. There were many occasions when I felt a sort of ecstatic loneliness. I felt simultaneously alone and connected to the universe, perhaps like an earth-bound spirit who was destined to be in a different dimension from those around him. When I look at the street now, I see places where I used to be and I think, ‘No one remembers. It’s as if I’m already dead to this world.’ The past seems like a bizarre dream. The camera’s eye is like my own eyes, seeing the city I used to live in. But I’m no longer there. I guess that’s why my eyes were filled with tears as I stood on the fire escape in the twilight contemplating the city in which I had made such a sacrifice to be a writer and which, after all, relegated me to a condition of abandonment.”

I knew Crad to prize kindness, consideration, love and true friendship above all else. Crad being mistaken for a misanthrope can only be due to how sensitive he was. If you didn’t recognize his kindness and love, if you didn’t reciprocate it, well: FUCK YOU (with a mushroom cloud behind it).

Our contact ended abruptly in 2003, by me. When younger, I was more willing to humor his shifting moods and honor his expectations to never write too short a letter or let too much time pass without penning one. Now older, I couldn’t keep up with Crad’s ongoing demand for attention. My priorities were elsewhere, and Crad let me know, rather cruelly, how unhappy he was about it. I stopped trying to meet the demand.

Years later, I wondered how he was faring. Bitter? Angry? Alone? Dead or alive? Hating me?

In early 2013, Crad emailed me out of the blue asking me to forgive him for “being so bad to you”, but asked that I not write back. I immediately replied that I forgave him, but it wasn’t until he was very ill and close to dying that he told me he had cancer. In our last exchanges, we emailed each other our favorite jokes. His:

First guy: I'm so sick and tired of people not understanding what I'm talking about!

Second guy: What do you mean?

Crad and I spoke three times on the phone the week before he died, our friendship and affection for one another wholly intact. I am so grateful to Lorette Luzajic for her unbelievable kindness and ongoing care for Crad and his legacy, through the Crad Kilodney Literary Foundation http://www.cradkilodney.com/

Crad’s papers are in the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library at the University of Toronto and I intend to donate his letters to the archive. Born: May 1st, 1996 (age 22) Taurus

Birth Place: Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Height: 6’ft

Position: Centre/Right wing (Shoots right)

NHL Draft: 8th overall, 2014 Toronto Maple Leafs

i. William was born in Calgary while his father played for the Calgary Flames.

ii. His younger brother is Alexander Nylander, who was selected 8th overall in the 2016 draft by Buffalo.

iii. William was raised in several different cities in the U.S., following his father’s professional career to Tampa Bay, Chicago, Washington, Boston and New York.

iv. His family later moved to Sweden when he was 14.

v. Although Will was born in Canada, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) said Nylander was able to represent Sweden.

vi. He played with Team Sweden at the 2013 World U-17 Hockey Challenge. He helped them win a gold medal, scoring a tournament high with eight assists.

vii. While living in Sweden he focused on bettering his hockey skills. Playing on teams Sodertalje, Rogle and Modo of the SHL.

viii. On February 14th, 2013, Nylander made his Allsvenskan debut where he was able to play with his father on Södertälje SK.

ix. William joined team Sweden again in the 2014 IIHF World U-18 Championships, scoring an impressive 16 points in 7 games.

x. He was selected 8th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2014 NHL Draft.

xi. Nylander scored a pre-season goal against the Philadelphia Flyers.

xii. Maple Leafs then decided to send him to the Toronto Marlies (AHL). 37 games into the season, William gave Toronto a good first impression scoring 14 goals and 32 points.

xiii. In the 2015 World Junior Ice Hockey Championship, William finished 5th in tournament with scoring, which was the highest of any player not on Team Canada.

xiv. William went back to playing in the SHL, but on January 12th, 2015, William was sent to the Marlies again to help develop his game. Despite only playing the first half of the season with Modo, he was still mentioned as a possible candidate for rookie of the year.

xv. Even though he only joined the team in January, he still registered 32 points in 37 games. The Marlies were at the bottom of the standings, but since Nylander’s return, they were able to make the playoffs.

xvi. February 29th, 2016, William made his NHL debut alongside his friend from the Marlies, Kasperi Kapanen.

xvii. He scored his first goal on March 5th, 2016 against the Ottawa Senators.

xviii. His first NHL goal was assisted by Brooks Laich, who assisted Will’s father on his last NHL goal

xix. The next season, Nylander made the Maple Leafs roster full-time

xx. William was named Rookie of the Month for the month of October 2016

xxvii. During the 2017–18 season, Nylander was again placed on the top line with Matthews and Hyman.

xxviii. He ended the regular season with 61 points, just as he did his rookie season. Helping the Leafs qualify for the playoffs again, however, they were eliminated after the first round again.

July’s PSA - Ready for Season 3?

I’ve never seen so many SnK events in 2018 condensed in a month...

We’re starting with the most important of them: S3 airing in July. This season is going to animate a long part of the manga where most of the conflict happens inside the walls, rather than focusing outside. It’s a period with a rough pacing, but necessary for the storytelling. This anime is going to bring in new readers by the time it’s airing, and maybe reignite the fanbase a bit. Season 2′s climate wasn’t as exciting as the hype built in 2013, so maybe things will change with this one?

New season means new opening and new ending. The first episode, whose contents were leaked in a preview, will come out at different times:

June 8th at anime expo’s S3 premiere

June 10th for the Roar of Awakening movie, subbed in several movie theaters, coming out in different places in the world

June 11th for the English Dub

June 22nd for the official broadcast on NHK. Episode 2 should be aired the following week (June 29th)

Many opportunities to see the first episode. It will most certainly get leaked but the official broadcasting will give the opportunity for everybody to see it.

A new anime also means: new interviews and new merch. Considering this season will feature new characters, will we see Kenny merch popping out?

About the manga, chapter 107 will be available this month. It will be the first chapter introducing the 27th volume of Shingeki no Kyojin. Will we stay on Paradis? Go back to Marley? What is Zeke up to? Will Annie ever come out of the crystal? What is Paradis going to do with Falco and Gabi? Will Levi honor his promise to Erwin? Will it be the start of a new arc or elongating the previous one?

I’ve noticed the enthusiasm for this chapter is quite low. Chapter 106 was a hype-killer for every platform I’ve been on. Personally, it was enough for me to not write anything about the volume. I keep saying I’ll make a review, but at this point I’ll do it when the story stops sucking so hard.

Leaks are supposed to be out the 5th. As a reminder, I’ll keep the #snk_spoilers and #snk_107 as spoiler tags, as usual.

Chuugakkou’s “Marley Academy” spinoff is also publishing its 3rd and 4th chapter in the same BSM issue as chapter 107. How will Shingeki students will rescue Bertolt from the roughplaying Jaw Titan?

We might even get the cover from volume 26 leaked at the end of the month, as the full volume is available August 9th, 2018. Personally, I bet on the zeppelin. Vol. 26′s special edition will come out with the third DVD of Lost Girls, featuring Mikasa’s story.

March 14th - March 16th: one year ago the filming of “Scorpion” season 4 wrapped. The last day of shooting for the main cast was March 16th, 2018 (if I remember correctly). Episode 4x22, the S4 finale...which in May became the series finale of the show. (PS: I am planning to time the usual series DVD extras post to the day which marks one year since the last episode aired, so... now you know the timeline...

March 14: Pi-Day! #314 Also...the day of the Avengers Endgame official (long) trailer being released!

March 31st: Five years ago, on March 31st (the night before April’s Fool Day), 2014, the HIMYM series finale double episode 9x23/9x24 aired & became one of least liked series finales...ever. It is an example of either the worst April’s Fools (and the real ending will be aired in 2030... the year when fictional Ted is telling the 9-season-long story to his kids OR it’s the best example of the worst series ending choice made by writers/showrunners/network). A textbook example of what not to do (don’t fit your original ending onto a show that lasted longer than you originally planned...with the story & characters evolving into something different & hence the story needing a new ending to it the evolved story).

April 16th - one year ago, today, the “Scorpion” S4 finale “A Lie in the Sand” (which later became the series finale) first aired. A very controversial and dividing episode...literally (for the characters)

April 25th - the perfect date, according to Miss Rhode Island, because it’s not too hot & it’s not too cold. All you need is a light jacket! #IdHaveToSayApril25th

April 26th: one of the biggest films of 2019 will be released on this day (in most places) - The Avengers 4th film “Endgame”. Hopes are high, but the latest MCU film (released a week ago) added a few (not so likable) possible scenarios to the films possible plotline & key details. Though luckily everything in the trailers & other sources contradicts these possibilities, so... there is still hope

May 11th - Ladyn Wong’s (33rd) Birthday. The actress, who portrayed Happy Quinn (-Curtis) on ”Scorpion” was born on this day, May 11th, 1985.

May 15th - Monica & Chandler’s (Mondler from “Friends” ) 18th wedding anniversary. The double-episode wedding ep, titled “The One With Monica & Chandler's Wedding, Pt 1 & Pt 2″ first aired 18 years ago, on May 17th, 2001.

May 15th - Jake & Amy’s (Peraltiago from”B99″) 1st wedding anniversary. The Peraltiago wedding episode, “Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s” S5 finale, titled “Jake & Amy” first aired May 20th, 2018.

May 25th or 26th, 2013 - Barney & Robins (Swarkles on “HIMYM” 6th wedding anniversary. We started getting glimpses at their wedding day in S6 already (with S6, S7 & S8 first & last episodes each revealing one detail about the wedding), and with the final season, S9 being all about their wedding weekend. The episode, where Swarkles say “I do”, ep 9x22 “The End of the Aisle” first aired on March 24th, 2014. Since it was supposed to be Sunday, then it has to be May 26th after all.

HISTORY OF WORLD DIABETES DAY

The International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organization (WHO) established World Diabetes Day in 1991 in response to the significant rise of diabetes around the world.

By 2016, approximately 230 IDF member associations in over 160 countries and territories, as well as other organisations, enterprises, healthcare professionals, politicians, celebrities, and people living with diabetes and their families, were commemorating World Diabetes Day. Diabetes screening programmes, radio and television ads, sports events, and other activities are among the activities.

HOW TO OBSERVE WORLD DIABETES DAY

Wear the blue circle

The blue circle emblem is recognised around the world as a symbol of diabetes awareness. Wear a t-shirt, necklace, or bracelet with the logo on World Diabetes Day, or make one yourself, to raise awareness of this serious disease and its consequences.

Organize a diabetes fair

Collaborate with local health officials to host a diabetes expo at your workplace or in your community. Provide diabetes screenings, distribute information and pamphlets, and advise individuals on how to avoid type 2 diabetes and be healthy.

Get tested

Excessive urine excretion, thirst, persistent hunger, weight loss, eyesight problems, and exhaustion are just a few of the symptoms of diabetes. Furthermore, being overweight or obese significantly raises the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Undiagnosed diabetes affects one out of every two adults. If you have any risk factors or symptoms, use World Diabetes Day as a reminder to get checked.

WHY WORLD DIABETES DAY IS IMPORTANT

It raises awareness about the diabetes epidemic

Diabetic diagnoses grew by 380 percent over a 25-year period (from 1988 to 2013). And these diagnoses are dangerous: the World Health Organization expects that diabetes will be the world’s eighth biggest cause of death by 2030. Diabetes type 2 can be avoided

It’s a good reminder to stay informed about diabetes

Although type 2 diabetes has reached pandemic proportions, type I diabetes, often known as juvenile diabetes, is a severe health issue. Type I diabetes affects around 1.25 million Americans, although the source of the condition is unknown. The health consequences, on the other hand, are exactly as bad as type 2 diabetes. World Diabetes Day acts as a reminder to be aware of diabetes symptoms, to be diagnosed, and to receive treatment.
