500 CALIBER CONTRACTZ Post #12
Dialogue!!!11:
The main thing I did over the past week or so was put together this dialogue system. The system itself was fairly easily to implement, and I think the only interesting part of the process to share is how I went about making the UI. As per usual, I wanted to have a cool mechanical feeling ui, but at the same time a friend of mine suggested an AOL instant messenger inspired chat window. I loved both of these ideas so I decided to combine them into a screen that pops up and contains the aim-like window. The modeling process for the screen was similar to how I went about making the other two bits of ui that are on screen in the above photos, but I decided to include a VGA port.
VGA PORT:
I didn't originally plan to include a VGA port, but I was in the middle of researching monitors and accidentally left a window open on my computer that just had a big photo of one and I went "wait a minute.". With my final two braincells I suddenly decided to slap together a model for the port which I ended up being proud enough of to, for some reason, make an entire section for it.
Sorry if any of the above sentences read horribly. I am going to need a third braincell if you want this stuff to be coherent. Anyway, Blender is so cool. Using the array modifier to make all these lil squares for the holes in the port is just such a satisfying process. I've come to really like makin pre-rendered assets like this.
New Movez:
This is actually a pretty big inclusion, and I probably should've ranked it in my mind above the VGA port. I added some new movement options to the game!
Firstly, I added this melee move where you swing the back of the sniper forwards to propel yourself a bit. It is mainly useful as a bunnyhop that allows you to conserve momentum.
Next up I added this kick that happens if you melee while in the air. It's basically just the one from mario64. It lets you gain a little bit more height and distance. It also becomes way more effective if you have a lot of momentum. A good tool for correcting jumps and reaching new heights.
Finally, we have the big schmovement slide. This slide gives you a huge burst of speed that you can jump out of in order to send your self flyin. Surprisingly, it didn't really break any of the level design and ended up being a really fun addition imo. In order to perform it, you have to do a ground pound and then melee as you hit the ground. Also, I feel like I basically stole this from pseudoregalia. Played through that recently and it has been a good source of inspiration.
Nova!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:
This is a cameo skin I've been really excited to finally make myself put in the game. Anodyne 2 is a really important game to me, and I love it much. I'm really happy tha folks at analgesic let me put her in here, and I'm p happy with how her model came together. If you haven't peeped the Anodyne games I highly recommend them. The first one was a major inspiration for parts of Fatum Betula.
Conclusion:
Lately I've been playing this game way too much. It has made it impossible for me to tell if it is fun or well designed. Some problems cropped up during playtesting that ima need to address, and I hope that it all comes together into something that one could say is "fun and cool". I think takin this weekend off is gonna do my brain good. Oh yeah also I feel like I should advertise that I'm still doing commissions if anyone is interested. Anyway, have a good 1 and enjoy urself.

Ok now to be annoying about a completely different flavor of Zelda: That cartoon from the 80s that has aged so poorly I take psychic damage every time I watch it (which has been multiple times (I have problems)). A few months ago when rewatching and being sick of the Link's personality from the show (his best feature is how funny the "Well excuuuuse me, princess" line is) I was like "I wish the quiet kid from the games/art was here instead" and accidentally thought too hard and made an au/rewrite of the cartoon lmao.
Anyways Zelda cartoon au where cryptid boy Link saves the post apocalyptic Hyrule of loz 1 and chills in the castle with cartoon Zelda to defend the triforce pieces that they have while trying to find the last piece before Ganon can find it, stumbling across the sleeping loz 2 Zelda along the way lol. Hijinks ensue as he teaches Zelda the brawns to back up her girlboss and he gets an adventure buddy because its dangerous to go alone and Zelda with her boomerang and crossbow goes hard. I think a monster of the week style plot works for the earlier Zelda games, but an overarching plot could coexist with that since that is kinda how games work lol.
As per usual here are a bunch of slapdash barely related sketches of my ideas with my expanded thoughts below bc I think it'd be fun to share:
I look at the official art of Link being a quiet determined little dude with a backpack of tools and wish that that was represented more. Like look at him! What a guy! Imagine giving a quiet puzzle solving 14 year old a sword, lethal magical weapons, and a wasteland to explore! I would love a show about that! In terms of other characters, swap out that annoying fairy character, put in a Navi clone, at least Navi didn't have a crush on Link🤮. Ganon can stay the same so long as he was always a demon pig and was never a Gerudo man because unlike Nintendo, I do not want to imply that the only prominent man of color in the series has only one big braincell thats just screaming "EVIL" on loop. But! Keep Zelda the same, I love her so much in the cartoon, she's obnoxious in a slay girlboss way, maximum vibes. By virtue of not having a paper thin plot, most other characters that were fine get fixed by proxy.
I think plot wise? It takes place a few years after the first game. Initially, Link saved the royal family and they started rebuilding that area of Hyrule, and Link traveled around to help people. One day, Ganon's minions start making attacks on the castle to steal the triforce pieces back to revive him fully, and a Zelda who greatly admires Links steps up to defend the place. Eventually, Zelda requests Link return to help defend the castle while they search for the mysterious hidden third triforce piece in order to combine the full thing and wish for peace in Hyrule. Link agrees and the hyjinks begin.
IIRC the og Link backstory was that he was the son of the hyrulean queen and the elf king or smth? In the manga? I didn't want him to be hylian royalty but I wanted to keep that cryptid vibe, hence why I have him related instead to the great fairy and the kokiri. He just leaves the forest/cave one day with literally nothing to go save Hyrule, what a chad. I think it'd be funny if people describe Zelda as feral due to how boisterous and headstrong she is, especially out on the field, but Link is the quiet version of wild that you don't notice at first. She is openly intelligent and snarky in comparison to "says 3 lines a day, bombs first and asks questions later, explore under every rock and bush" forest kid Link.
It would be fun though if "rushes into danger" Zelda resonated more with the triforce of power and "solves dungeon puzzles for funsies" Link with the triforce of wisdom, then they both resonated with the triforce of courage upon finding it. idk tho lol
I also think two different young Zeldas coexisting with each other after one awoke from a cursed slumber would be really funny. Like that's gotta be so awkward, especially if one has the fighter girlboss slay up to 11 and the other just woke up from a coma to her family gone and her kingdom destroyed and just kinda wants to read books and drink tea in peace. Imagine being the same age or older than your great (great?) aunt. Or imagine if the old lady Impa nursemaid to Zelda 1 Zelda was the young Impa nursemaid to the Zelda 2 Zelda. Wild.
If I wasn't incapable of remembering to finish writing wips I'd write that series lol. Alas, this is all I can pull for now.
I'd love to call this propaganda to go watch the show but maybe don't because its yikes. This is moreso propaganda for someone to make a Zelda cartoon show instead of the movie that I sense Nintendo is plotting to make. Also, if you've read this far, I should mention I also will probably be posting art from some of my actual long term Zelda aus beyond just expanding on the cartoon, though I may continue to do that if my train of thought continues on these tracks.

I'll say that even if Isaac from the games was a 1-dimensionally evil bastard with no depth like so many N!fans deride him as, I'd rather have that than a character that tries to be deep and nuanced but is horribly written. Like, I prefer a character like Diseny's Jafar or Ursula to a character like Netflix Isaac.

Oh, but that's not what they mean :) Isaac isn't boring. He's a stupid character. Because he doesn't take himself completely seriously. Because he's flamboyant, which makes him cringe. Because he's "bad representation" (to which I say, lol and lmao). Because he wouldn't make the pacing screech to a halt to talk veeeeeeeryyyyyyyyy sllllloooowllllllyyyyy about faux-philosophical stuff that sounds so OMG Deep™ until you scratch the veneer of pretentious word choice.
People have said that Godbrand is pretty much game Isaac in NFCV form. And it fits, doesn't it? A buffoon that is treated as comic relief, whose characterization is mainly "violent guy who kills, fucks and makes boats", and the two times he activates his braincell, he first gets talked down into submission by Dracula (who, as a reminder, did not do the same with the much more outrageous Carmilla) and then he gets outright killed like a jobber by N!Isaac, showing the latter as the strong badass he'll keep being. After 4 episodes of screentime.
And that says a lot about NFCV and its tone.

I mentioned these three in an earlier ask (they're the cryptid polycule), but I felt the need to share The Them again because I am so incredibly obsessed with them.
these 3 are my favourite-est little dudes, and they are so very in love that it makes them all act stupid, and i adore them. they have one (1) braincell combined, and they're just playing hot potato with it 24/7.
They're all several hundred years old, but they act like mid-twenties college kids who drink Monster to survive and haven't seen the sun in three months. Probably because, by their species' standards, they might as well be. Basil (cyan) has six big dragonfly wings, but they're not visible in either of these shots, sadly.
Also I gave them The Ink Colours Ever by complete and total accident (I picked their colours for symbolism reasons and the stars aligned), so I just straight-up named their ship CMYK XD
Anyway uhhhh CMYK my babies my shining stars my silly goofy lil dudes <3 they are everything to me

Happy one month anniversary to our server! Since many people outside of the server are interested in what’s happening within, I thought I’d take a moment to write out a little synopsis since I see everything (for the most part). This will probably be pretty lengthy so I’ll put it under a read more! I’ll also be combining what’s happened in today’s session as well as some background info on what’s been going on before too. I’m not going to go into a huge amount of detail since this is a loose wrap-up of our sessions so far but going forward I’d like to make smaller ones of these per-session or by the week. We’ll see :)
Starting with the main base #BlessThisMess. Equipped with enchanting table, brewing stand, melon farm, chicken hole, a Very Legit Basement, and most importantly Braincell the cat. Our most recent additions from today’s session is that Jack O’ Lantern in front and a rainbow sheep.
Not too far of a walk away is @lampozzz piece of the world where we get to enjoy shole (sheep hole) and wheat fields that make beautiful shots :) Also slay written in wool because these barbies slay.
Another stroll and we have @bizarepistachio‘s base. Up close and personal with the villagers and a beautiful view to match it all! Biz has been spending a lot of time resource gathering and dodging agro mobs.
@arintheman in recent sessions has been working on a Mob Harm Farm(TM)(do not steal) and actually died from it before regaining his life. Also, nearly did it again 3 minutes later.
I believe that @transandor is my muse because he is always in the most aesthetically pleasing places possible. I’ve gone on many adventures many blocks long with him including in the deep dark where some of my favorite screenshots have come from!
@monarchisms is a simple farmer. After an untimely drop creeper death (that was replenished!) they decided to switch to a simpler task, caring for chickens*. We also celebrated their birthday in one of the sessions!
*at the time of writing this many chickens have lost their lives, see below
I have a lot to say about what @thedeaddandy gets up to. But I will instead let the pictures speak for me. Please enjoy.
And as a final addition, here’s the current death count, how they happened, and if they were replenished with an achievement:
@thedeaddandy: 5 lives, Death 1 against a wither skeleton, gained life back with Return to Sender
@arintheman: 3 lives, Death 1 was fall damage escaping a zombie and skeleton in a mineshaft, Death 2 was fall damage from the Mob Harm Farm (TM)(do not steal), and Death 3 a creeper. Gained 1 life with It Spreads (rip to that chicken).
@monarchisms 3 lives, Death 1 skeleton, Death 2 group of zombies, Death 3 drop creeper. Gained one life back through a birthday miracle (actually serious fr)
@bizarepistachio 4 lives, Death 1 exploded further into a cave then was attacked by several mobs unsure what the killing blow was, Death 2 got gotted by an enderman while iron gathering. Gained life back from It Spreads.
@transandor 5 lives, Death 1 to an enderman in the nether, gained life back with Return to Sender, Death 2, drowned with a trident (RIP), gained life back with It Spreads.
@lampozzz 5 lives, no deaths!

There are lots of ways ppl write wq terribly but one minor thing that kind of irks me is when they have her side with litrally everyone/anyone else aside from wwx. you've already talked about how ppl do this w her and jc all the time which is obv the most infuriating combination. But then there's this trend where she condescends to wwx w like...lxc of all people. like wtf? the ONLY person I could see her mocking wwx with in true jest would be mianmian and still it'd be to his face. On the same topic, I don't get why ppl have her respect lwj more than wwx or be super dismissive/smug/sassy about wwx and lwj's relationship and how much of an 'idiot' wwx is. As if wq wasn't in a unique position to understand exactly why wwx couldnt/wouldn't act on his feelings or just act the way he did in general. I also don't think she'd be able to fully trust lwj at first and absolutely wouldn't begin a friendship w him by mocking wwx. Wq is protective of wwx, if anything she'd be wary of lwj breaking his heart by accident (though I do think they would get along and respect each other a great deal). And anyone who talks shit about wwx to her unprompted will get a very icy look and possibly a needle to the neck
wei wuxian and wen qing are highly similar characters who would go through hell and back for each other and connect on a deep level due to their shared experiences yet are perceived by fans as too fundamentally different to even hold a 1 minute conversation without wen qing threatening or mocking wei wuxian. and it's CLEAR that no one writing this content thinks their relationship is meaningful or important to them, despite the source material going out of its way to illustrate the profound impact they've had on each other's lives and cql in particular taking care to show that wei wuxian is as haunted by wen qing's sacrifice and death as he is by jiang yanli's.
the idea that wen qing would genuinely condescend to and side against her closest friend alongside someone who was perfectly fine sending her to her death, just because they possess some surface respectability, is emblematic of the fandom's disregard for her actual character and indicates that ppl would much rather force her into the 'woman with the braincell' reject bin than analyse her with any care or genuine interest. like the very concept of her holding wei wuxian's actions against him when she's not only uniquely equipped to understand them but also responsible for his separation from the clans by asking for his help....... i've been holding in the hate but i literally cannot stand mdzs fans like just read the fucking book once or twice instead of drowning yourself in trite fanfic tropes

I return to deliver more fanart for Heroes that are half-scaled by @nicoleisaboat-blog ! Turns out combining my Rise hyperfixation with my life-long love for dragons is a sure fire way to get me to obsess over a fic. Well played.
So here we’ve got some full body sketches of my interpretations on how they look like as well as two more quick doodles from work.
(I feel like Raph is starting to compete with Donnie over being my favorite turtle. I mean
look at this guy. Look at him and tell me you wouldn’t die for him. You can’t.)
I wanna go over some design choices real quick (I’ll try to keep it short lmao)
Mikey is very Round™️ except for his horns which resemble the stickers on his plastron (as stated in the fic). Unfortunately I think they’d prevent him from fully retracting his head (I also think none of the others can retreat fully into their shells since their limbs, necks and shells are kinda massive compared to before. I do feel like Mikey would get the furthest tho).
Donnie is obviously the smoothest both scale wise and in regards to lack of horns and spines/spikes. Like I said before, shortish legs, long-ass neck and tail (bc softshell turtles’ necks extend). Kept all his tech and, most importantly, his eyebrows. Speaking of tech, his draconic battle shell was one of my favorite aspects to design even tho I normally hate drawing machinery. Figured I’d give it a dragon scale pattern to fit the aesthetic and I think it works well. Also, snoot.
I absolutely love how Leo turned out. Braincell 1 was like ‘what if we gave him this kinda snout’ and braincell 2 went ‘absolutely based, let’s do it’. His red “ears” extending all the way to the tip of his tail is an awesome idea and I wanted to make them a bit jagged bc parallel lines are Boring. I broke up his “mask” so it’d be a bit more expressive and to have some extra variation between all of them (it does extend almost all the way to his shell on the back of his neck). Possibly my favorite design element is that the base of his antlers look like the base of his ōdachi!
Raph still is the most armored among all of them but like, dialed up to 11. Extra hard massive shell, scales extra spikey, alladat. I also gave him multiple rows of spines kind of like an alligator. He has the shortest neck relative to body size among all of them, mainly because I feel like bulkier, heavier dragons tend to be more stocky or “compressed” I guess (plus variation value. I wanted them to be 100% distinguishable even without looking at their shells).
As you can see I am obviously Very Normal about this AU.

sorry for the late response, anon, i was gaming through jedi survivor and my single braincell didn't process or respond to anything beyond that.
anyway. after playing js, i firmly believe that in a different universe cal could’ve been obi-wan’s second padawan tbh because he is just bitchy, sassy and arrogant enough while outsourcing his single braincell to BD-1 and doing ridiculous shit that Should Not Be Done.
and because obi-wan hangs around anakin a lot who’s also training ahsoka, cal would pick up a combination of the most outrageous skills and behaviours known to the galaxy, so it would be the four of them to wreaking havoc not only on whatever villain or beast they encounter but also on the nerves of one mace windu. obi-wan would, as he always does, pretend he’s entirely innocent and that cal is picking up mannerisms that he himself is not teaching while anakin holds up a sign with huge bold letters saying “everything we know, we learned from obi-wan”.
anakin is, of course, jealous and irritable and mean at first, because how dare obi-wan take on a new padawan but i think he’d get over it as soon as he realizes cal becomes just as insane as the rest of them, has his own droid and little to no self-preservation instincts.
their combined mission reports read like “*explosion* *explosion* *almost total destruction of [vessel of massive size]* *very nearly started a civil war* *insane undertaking that would’ve killed anyone else* *droids save their asses* *somehow impossibly got the best possible outcome anyway*”
they do batshit crazy stuff and yet still somehow manage to cancel each other out in the end. it’s inexplicable and nobody understands it.
