Anyway I've been sitting on this post all day. Jojolion's ending is fairly well known for being underwhelming at best - though I've seen many discussions of its bittersweet aspect and how some readers found that interesting or satisfying. One aspect of the ending of the story that I found sweet was that scene in which Jousuke runs into Josefumi's mom. Yasuho decides, unprompted, to investigate her using her Stand. She points out that putting everything else aside, he clearly had a dream.
Jousuke desperately fought to save Yoshikage's mom. For most of the story, he gets identified as Yoshikage Kira a lot more than he is Josefumi. He latched on to being Holly's son somehow, he didn't correct her when she called him Yoshikage. When he learned that Yoshikage Kira was fighting to save his mom, he latched onto that fight and made it his goal. There's no reason given why he would want to identify as Yoshikage more than Josefumi, other than the former having a goal to save his mom. Josefumi's mom seemed like she didn't care about him, so Jousuke didn't bother with her.
Having a parent to fight for gave him meaning. When he lost Holly (congrats), he looked at Josefumi's mom and in his heart was grasping at hope.
Yasuho knows him well and gives him the answer he needs. Whether it's meaning, love or belonging, he does have a mother who cares about him. A history that matters; he's not a nobody. As much as he gets to build his own life from now on, with Yasuho, with the Higashikata family, he dreamt of already being somebody to someone.
I think there's a lot more to this - for example, Yoshikage had goals, an epic story, an adventure he was going on. Josefumi seemed like he had nothing. Left with just Josefumi's small family (because RIP Kei, congrats about that too), Jousuke felt like he had nothing too; but for Yasuho to tell him his mom did care about what happened to him makes Jousuke the only version of Josefumi to realise both that he didn't come from nowhere and that he can build his own life as himself. Jousuke was the result of both Yoshikage and Josefumi, who were both going on adventure to save Holly - but once that was done, Josefumi's want for a goal remained.
