The Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement has listed Marvel as one of the companies to boycott during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. As well as a complete boycott of Captain America: New World Order. These boycotts come at the request of numerous Palestinian film and art organizations who do not want to see the Israeli comic character Sabra/Ruth Bat-Seraph in a superhero movie.
Sabra's history is mixed. Depending on the story and the writer, she is either a noble hero or a faulty hero who doesn't hesitate to show what she thinks about Arab people. No matter she is considered the "Israeli Captain America," and though it is plausible that Marvel decided to give her the character growth she's been dodging for decades in the upcoming Captain America movie; The Falcon and The Winter Solider could suggest this possibility, it is better to request Marvel scrap the character all together then to trust that the project will represent the truth of Israel and it's apartheid regime.
We thought about this for a while and decided that the right thing to do is join the Marvel boycott.
Our first episode back was planned for the 29th and it was going to be our thoughts on The Marvels. While we are slightly disappointed to not be adding our voices to those trying to fight back against the racist and misogynistic reviews the movie continues to receive, we had to force ourselves to acknowledge that this is just a movie; Marvel is just an entertainment company, even if to one of us *coughBraydencough* it means much more than that. We are also used to arguing with misogynists and racists already so we can wait a little longer to contribute to the fray. [It's not like they listen to anything we say anyway.]
We will be boycotting all Marvel products and we will not be releasing any new episodes until Marvel removes Sabra from Captain America: New World Order.
This podcast is meant to be a fun community for all of us MCU fans who feel ostracized by those who think that superheroes are only for a certain type of audience. We are saddened to begin another pause, but we understand that this podcast with zero audience is not more important than standing with the Palestinian people.
Thank you.
Here is a link to the BDS website:
We would also like to encourage you to follow BDS on Instagram @bdsnationalcommittee. They post boycott updates frequently.
As well as, @eye.on.palestine and @jewishvoiceforpeace across all platforms if you aren't already.
Palestinian rights are human rights. We cannot allow anyone to spread damaging false information. Be better Marvel!

How do you approach sourcing recipes from cultures that aren't your own/food you didn't grow up eating or learning to make? Do you adapt your own version from a multitude of others' recipes, etc?
it always starts with something I want to eat myself (by stumbling across the name of the dish online or wanting to use a specific ingredient I have or thinking to myself "I wonder what some popular foods in [region] are"
and then, yeah, I look at a multitude of other recipes--this can be tricky because a lot of recipe blogs take shortcuts or make substitutions without disclosing because they make assumptions about what you'll have access to / what you'll be willing to source / how long you're willing to spend. some recipe blogs are also literally completely wrong about what they're telling you to use because they're made by some woman named Tiffany or something who didn't do much research herself (I keep coming back to the one time I saw someone call for... Indian black cardamom.... instead of Ethiopian false cardamom... because she legit did not know the difference and was confused by the shared name)
I look out for recipes shared by people from that region and try to get a sense for what's commonly used, what the 'idea' behind the dish and the cooking method is (for example, what order are aromatics and vegetables and oil and spices added in? how will this affect what flavors wind up in the final dish? is this order common across dishes in this region, or does it change from dish to dish or person to person?). youtube helps a lot with this, as does g*ogle translate--I try to look at a diversity of recipes written in one or two languages used in the region. this can have the same problem with people making 'quick' versions (modern people are busy!) but usually gives me a sense for what substitutions, if any, English-language recipes are making (based on their assumptions about what's available where you are). if necessary, I narrow the region / version of the dish down further so that I'm not jumbling up ingredients across different regions more than I have to. cooking forums help a lot--places where people aren't necessarily posting full recipes, but giving little tips about technique &c. (this is where I learned of the importance of cracking coconut cream, for example)
all of this is something I do myself, for fun--have a night after a few days or weeks of research and sourcing ingredients where I make three to four dishes from a certain region (so what dishes are commonly eaten together, the idea behind what types of dish make up a meal (e.g. in a Japanese setto menu, a USian idea of meat + starchy side + vegetable side + bread) will also come into play). not only do I get to experience foods that I might not otherwise (especially given that vegetable and meat dishes often use different flavour profiles, so just the vegetarian meals from a region wouldn't always be representative), but it's extremely useful to me as a vegan cook / baker to be well-versed in a wide variety of different ingredients and techniques so that I have a lot to draw on when attempting to adapt recipes.
I only post the results of all of this if 1. I've narrowed in on a recipe by making the dish a few times; and 2. I feel I have something to add (e.g. I've synthesised a few things that I didn't see come together in any one recipe, specified measurements and times that had been imprecise, included ingredients or information that I hadn't seen in English-language recipes, or made something vegan that usually isn't).

"you know you can track a whale's lifespan with it's earwax plugs. they've got layers." clara said, taking a glance at the exhibit around her and the other woman as she meandered through the museum. she hadn't been quite sure what the wonders exhibit even constituted of, and so far it just seemed to be an odd mix of whatever the museum had and couldn't fit anywhere else. "still a little gross to put in a museum if you as me." she said with a shrug. "but considering whales will go on the follow humans into space and even evolve past of so that they can swim and breath through space without any sort of technological support it is important to give them some pieces." she added, just as easily as the fact with actual backing, a light grin on her face. maybe it wasn't completely false, she vaguely remembered the doctor talking about star whales once, but she was rather positive they hadn't come from earth. whatever, that wasn't the sort of fun information people wanted to hear, so instead she just rattled off nonsense to her company happily.

breaking news: idiot with a fish hits 255 and kills god heres the part where i do a personal review all parts of the arcane river story
dont take these seriously
the adversary as a character 0/10: words dont describe how bad he is "...Oh!" "...Ah!" shut up youre an insult to every maplestory class
lost temple keeper + vanishing journey: 7/10
i did this in 2017 but most of the content is fetch quests and an introduction to completely new things you have no attachment to maybe i should give it a little more credit as the kao twist being revealed for the first time was kinda cool and the talk amongst the fandom
reverse city: 7/10 apparently i did this in 2021? i guess that makes sense because this didnt exist in 2017 why is earth real and called friends world still not invested in the story by this point but i liked t-boy
chu chu island: 6/10 this is when i came back so i actually think this story is quite fun and i liked the characters involved but in the grand scheme of things, its not good
feels like filler, wasnt truly important until yum yum was added YEARS LATER, feels like a waste of 5 levels when i still feel like you should fight the black mage at 250 instead of 255
yum yum island: 9/10 cooooooooool cooooooooooooooooooool has the same fun and and loveable whimsy of chu chu but this time it sets up something sinister and adds to the plot
the afrien fusion, the kaling reveal, chefs kiss
lachelein + crack of subconscious: 8/10 honestly i wasnt very invested in this lucid just makes this interesting
plus im a shade so i get extra dialogue
also this town name sucks gms hates non-english words
arcana: 7/10
rock spirits and i love the spirit of harmony was this just setup for tana
morass: 10/10
alright we getting into PLOT jean deserved better, tana deserved better, arkarium deserved what he got, shey deserved better, kritias deserved better
the flying fish TALKS and the moment where he takes the form of jean and shows himself to tana is so AMAZING i love this TRAGIC STORY
the maps are awful though especially if youre low on arcane force which i was
esfera: 8/10
why dont i actually remember much of what happened here i guess the information of tana has been so stuck in my head it doesnt feel like it was presented as new information to me anymore lots of nice exclusive dialogue here though and we get to meet ollie sellas: 11/10 i will cry right here right now this is such a good story with good atmosphere and pacing i CARE for both ollie and shubert greatly
moonbridge: 8/10
this is when the pacing and structure becomes spotty because it was part of the event i chose not to participate in which means i didnt get the full experience theres just so much dread in this questline so many losses from not being ready to fight the black mage the pacing towards the second half is bad though the cutoff is so strange because it feels like you have another 30 minutes to go when really you have 5 labyrinth of suffering: 8/10
hillas beats the shit out of your morale for an hour the dread continues and continues it shall tons of exclusive dialogue, always a favorite limina: 5/10 i feel like im supposed to feel more i feel like im supposed to do more all of the bosses are very weak which is very unsatisfying, orchid is tsundere and says the adversary hasnt lost anything which ranges from maybe true to absurdly false depending on who you are the claudine vs cygnus scene is legitimately pointless, nothing can describe in words how pointless it truly is the flying fish DIES and then suddenly you have to fight the black mage the black mage whos phases last 4 seconds in story mode i only ever got hit once
the adversary dying did make me actually sad though because everyone else thinks youre truly dead the flying fish comes back (yay) and then its revealed NO ONE DIES? and most of the soldiers get UNSNAPPED? the story finishes with orchid being tsundere again and your idiot of a character sitting on the flying fish leaving the scene
Tumblr media
i feel like im in a cartoon
kaos memory: 8/10 a tragedy of a character destined to die kao deserved better shade aftermath: 10/10 thank god he gained a reason to live conclusion: why did i even type this out im just ready to move on to the grandis story

I'm not that goblin, i am a less hateful and very much so anti-sysmed blocklist and any other similiar blogs goblin. Those blogs encourage harassment and put people on there for any reason, they don't even have to be anti, just to never take them off. I'm just someone genuinely curious if you're worth (politely) debating with or even just following for the resources you post.
Thank you for the reassurance!
My goal, aside from making fun of ridiculous statements on Twitter, is to spread and correct misinformation and myths. For example, the big post I made two days ago doesn't debate the existence of endogenic systems at all. If we're going to debate, we need accurate information, and that means not spreading the myth about Allen Frances or the ToSD, or what the DSM says. We can't debate if someone only has half the facts and the facts they have are completely false, and are only intended to spread fear and distrust of psychiatry.
Or the extremely misleading post by one of the biggest voices in syscourse, the sorority, that stated that "this book", published independently by the APAP, was by the APA, supported entirely by the APA, and outright proves the existence of endogenic systems. Bitch, where? It's not the APA. There's a chapter about gender and plurals-- no research, no proof, no evidence, no tests, no surveys, NOTHING. It's a good book and it makes good points, and that's a very important conversation, but... That's just a little misleading. And so is the use of half these articles being thrown around in endogenic cards.
Or the cultural exclusion. God, don't get me started on that.
Or let's talk about the word "disordered", and how much internalized ablism people have around it. According to the DSM 5, and explicitly stated throughout, being disordered doesn't mean dysfunctional and in need of treatment. It's not a dirty word. Or how about how the DSM 5TR acknowledges so many different types of trauma? We've moved past the, "only ritual and sexual abuse can cause this," and into, "disorganized attachments and emotional neglect are just as, if not MORE damaging than physical and sexual abuse COMBINED" (link and sources will be added to the masterlist shortly).
With all of that said, it seems to me endogenic systems are (1) convinced they're not disordered, and thus endogenic, and (2) severely downplaying the effects of emotional trauma and thus endogenic. Most admit to having trauma but are convinced that it's entirely unrelated to their plurality. The idea of convincing yourself SO HARD that they're not connected is... Actually really normal. Not healthy, but... Par for the course. And all I can do is continue to remind people that disordered isn't a bad word, and trauma is trauma is trauma and it's all valid.
Is endogenic plurality possible? Maybe. I think most are actually DID/OSDD, and it's possible, sure, that there's a VERY small portion of the endogenic group that might present differently on brain scans, but... Not everyone, no. In my eyes, the population would be, largest to smallest:
Actually has DID/OSDD -> confusion over symptoms, actually has something else -> fakers -> the one, single special unicorn for a case study, and it's not any of these people on tumblr (looking at a couple choice blogs)
What you do with my blog is your choice, this blog does not and will not outright attack people, I'm just here putting out clearer links and offering layman term explanations.
And making fun of people on Twitter, of course.

I'm not going to lie to you, like many people, I don't think CF is well written, I think the concept was interesting and I appreciate what (little) it does even with the flaws, but my major problems are with the Ede*stans, I know you have not been in the fandom in the beginning, but the things I had to read, even now, the fact that some people use uh, uncomfortable and questionable rhetoric to defend their favourite character it gets really, really tiring, to the point that I can't stand her /1
which is a pity, because while I like her I also like the other characters and the fact that they have to drag into the mud the others just to make her look better than she is says quite a lot of what do they actually think of her, to the point on denying basic canon information to suit your narrative, and I could just completely ignore this behaviour and CF and stay in my corner but some of this militant stans are so obnoxious that now wherever I think to hard of Edel's actions it makes me /2
uncomfortable. Now, all of this people are a very loud minority, they have also being bullied in the past before and I understand that they may be bitter because of it, but they should not retaliate make toxic and false takes and then attack using Ad hominem like you are sexist or homophobic because you don't like or agree with her, it makes me enjoy the games less and less, I don't have a lot of fate in this new warrior's game because the discourse have started again and is very tiring /3
I'm really sorry you had to go through that. It must suck to experience bullying in real life, only to see it happen again in what's supposed to be a silly, fun escapist fantasy video game.
I also know what it's like for a fandom to make you hate a character you used to like. Except for me it was Castiel from Supernatural. So I can relate what you're going through. I wish I could say time fixes it, and maybe it does for some, but I still only feel bitter when I think about Castiel. I hope it's different for you, though.
But yeah, I have not been active in this fandom for a while - since Awakening got released, and I saw how toxic the FE fanbase could be. I was embarrassed by the way some of the older fans treated newer fans.

Theres only so much self hate i can acquire
Or guilt like im still processing alot of other shit that will have to get added 2 the queue
Also idc that he found this page or even if he go share it or laugh or screenshot or whatever he may do cause honestly thats my fault for ever thinking like i was so comfortable im like omg somebody trying to get me nahh its a tactic and love make u see beyond game but a man game is on regardless its all a game
Everybody says weird shit that u truly feel like u just like the idea of me
Projection
You just want me for my energy and space
Projection
Everything projectile cause in stats in statistics That could b labeled as false
If my sugar daddy said u are using me etc. he would be 100% correct cause if we check stats along with situation it adds up completely
When a man my age starts playing that game
Subconsciously but a game
I just have to sit and ponder
Cause only thing they used was time and maybe they had to feel pathetic for loving but love is quite pathetic cause it DOESNT exist among relationships with somebody who you are not kin too,
Cheat steal use and the good times make up for all the bullshit thats a relationship
Most relationships pple lie and cry alot
Alot of fights too alot of disagreements all cause some person or both are lonely
Rather have a bunch of bullshit cause maybe this gets better or good eventually
The only love that truly exists between mothers and grandmothers thats so unconditional they dnt wanna argue n fight just cause maybe at the end of the road there will b a worthy exchange for pain
They love n argue cause they want the best for you there is no reward in the love they show they show it cause dammit they love you and ive always shown that kind of love
Well i thought i have
Probably didnt but i tried
Cause if its not the correct puzzle piece or information that connects to the right button or switch bitch u otw out
And soon this will be laughing material for most, i think what alotta people dont realize is my life has been laughing matieral at all stages not just this one so
It could b worse i mean who wants to look thru a bunch of manic and emotionally charged posts 4 fun?
Even the ones I write with a clear brain
It could be source of entertainment
But i write this post all to say if he still watching im still using this page whether its the guise of a sudden audience member or if im still shouting into a void
Pple know i dont care
They say they dont care but I truly dont care, i came up alone ive been in violent situations alone nobody came 2 help so if a nigga wanna take entertainment out a chunk of my life im glad i could be a source of happiness and healing in reading thru everything that gets 2 me
Ive had niggas say they gone come kill me
Gun to my face
Stomps on my head
Ive been raped multiple times from a young age
My mom dgaf bout me i mean what more could u possibly do to me for me to feel slighted im chronically slighted
Paper cut is how most shit feel to me now
There’s nothing fun in being afraid of nothing, always said u tryna to b hard
Idk what way 2 be soft with a endearment cycle like mine. Everything comes out harsh cause how do u say things with a softness ?
How do u live softly? If u not using softness as a cover as a straight up lie cause u know deep down its not pink jeeps and white fur carpets face masks and femininity is a JOKE!
I got extremely tired of covering up who i was cause it got to be a second job
If not being me was the first one
If i gotta b scapegoat for being authentic this merely a example
Dont be honest, every girl has told me that and have been 1000% correct
Nobody ready to truly break 4th wall and be candid be deeper than words beyond thought and to disect where the orgins lye
I had a hole in my underwear lmao right
I didnt care cause like im in bed who gaf
But he did n i tried to explain why i didnt care,
Nuance
LAYER 1
have these underwear since middle school cause my mom bought them 4 me at a time where she still gaf i still got em I still wear em
LAYER 2
Im behind closed doors nobody sees me but me or you idc
LAYER 3
Holes are holes and underwear is under clothes so its not seen im not seen
On top of that im embarrassed like wtf
Cause then i think bout them posts that get seared into brains of many like hygiene politics
And i have good hygiene so i didnt gaf
Idk just know imma still post on here
From my pov my raw pov no matter if my page get found or not we out chere 😇🤷🏾‍♂️🕳️

Digital libraries, virtual libraries, and libraries...in space?
Tumblr media
For Joshua Kazemi, writer and developer of Recorded by Arizal, one of his favorite lines in the prelude are in Log ii, where Dante says, “I miss going to the libraries and just reading for fun. Information with no thought of application.” I'd like to expand on that in this post. Sadly libraries don't show up directly in any episode, but it is implied. That connects to the internet itself, which can pander to people's "lust for violence" as Fry put it in Futurama, or Prof. Farnsworth said, in the same show, a place to get credit card numbers (implying the gathering of information). So, in this post, let me talk about some digital (or virtual) libraries in shows that I've watched so far, and in one film... it will be a surprise!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let's start with Bravest Warriors, since libraries come up in three episodes, with the first one a physical library, which falls out of the scope of this article. Let's start with the episode "Nothin' Stays the Same." In this episode, Beth, one of the show's protagonists, asks the ship for "library access retrieval mode," looks at everything about "negotiating peace treaties with hostile aliens." She keeps going back to the library to get more information so she can defeat the monster. I mentioned this before, in one post, but only briefly. And Beth is successful! Go libraries! Yay! So, that's a library success story if I ever heard of one.
Tumblr media
Then there's the episode "War Without Tears." In this episode, another one of the show's protagonists, Danny, uses the holo library (the same one that Beth used in the earlier episode) to learn about free will. He later comes to the conclusion that free will doesn't exist but people's feelings do, with the entities occupying the bodies of Chris, Beth, and Wallow depart, going to another universe when they learn about friendship. That brings me to another topic, which I'll talk about in the rest of this post.
Tumblr media
Library in the film, Solaris. Clips of the library scenes from the film can be viewed here and here.
I'd like to talk about the library in a Soviet sci-fi film, Solaris, which focuses on a library of the mind within the intergalactic space station. [1] In this wood-paneled library, one character, Snaut, quotes from the novel Don Quixote, and a painting by Pieter Bruegel the Elder, "Hunters in the Snow", is hanging in the library, as noted by IMDB's trivia page for the film. But there is much more going on than this. David Hanley writes in Off Screen about the same works of art which hang on the walls of the station, which contains a bust of Plato, who believed that everything on Earth was "merely a false, illusory duplication of an “ideal” form (in Heaven)," which is echoed in the "series of flawed imitations" shown in the film. Adding to this is a review by Derek McCallum, who notes that the library itself connecting to life on Earth and having a distinctive color scheme. On the same page is a review by Allison James, who argues that the drawings, photographs, etchings, and a painting in the library represent a time when "romantic sensibilities" had a great value in the sciences and arts. The library itself, she writes, becomes a museum, a receptacle of these artifacts and also a place where "elements of the human psyche" that are just remembered, not used in the daily life of this future setting are stored. James further notes that the library is where those who occupy Solaris interact and gather, showing that the rational and scientific world outside of the library itself, in her words has "lost a sense of community, shared moral values and aspirations to purely objective relationships." Jonathan Jones of The Guardian adds that the contents of this library are "suspended over an endlessly changing and apparently sentient alien ocean," a place complete with the haunting imagery of Earth itself. The library is different from the rest of the space station, almost like an ordinary room and human-friendly, a place where the emotional tension of the film reaches one of its high points, to summarize some arguments made by Vladimir Tumanov in the Film Philosophy journal.
While Khensu shows Akila, Brian, and Cleo holograms in the special collections room, a room specifically focused on Ancient Egypt, in the PYRAMID library, in the Cleopatra in Space episode "Clubbing," that isn't a virtual or digital library. A better example is when Akila is studying in the library in the episode "Akila Says No." We see around the library and people taking out records, like was done in the Jedi Temple Archives (falsely called a "library") in Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of Clones. Even so, it is not a virtual or digital library, but a brick-and-mortar one. Those are the only ones I can think of for now, but there will likely be more as I watch even more animated series and anime! As always, suggestions on what I should write about are welcome.
Notes
[1] It's more extensive than the 1971 film, The Andromeda Strain, says. In the film, one character, Mr. Mark Hall (played by James Olson) asks “where is the library?” to which his colleague, Dr. Charles Dutton (played by David Wayne) responds: “No need for books. Everything’s in the computer.” And the movie goes on, as there is no more discussion. Later on, the computer does have an error and overload when too much information is inputted by the scientists, the “heroes” of this film in this top-secret facility in the Nevada desert called “Wildfire.” The fact that everything is stored on the computer is not mentioned in any reviews of the movie I have found, and as such, perhaps people should revisit this movie for just this reason, as it is still relatively enjoyable. We have gotten to the point that everything is “in the computer” like in this film, not only with libraries and other public institutions but more and more with archival institutions in recent days.

My 4444-word review of NEO TWEWY (with personal illustration + heavy spoilers)
Tumblr media
My overall critical score for the game is 7.5/10, while my personal enjoyment score is 8.5/10. This review is posted as I have 80% completed the game, got the secret ending and achieved the Angel psychic rank. I’ll first start with the main pros and cons as follows.
PROS:
-        Enjoyable as a whole, still upholding the first game’s spirit in world building and sharing the same backbone - which was mostly revealed in the Secret Reports, it’s impossible to grasp the story without reading them.
-        The new cast and new game is charming in their own way
-        The old cast’s return is one of the biggest highlights for sure, it was fun and impactful. Everyone stays true to themselves and also had their own stories wrapped up nicely.
-        Boss designs are cool, new pins are fun to use and collect
-        The connection between the old and new cast is well written and executed, including but are not limited to the tension between the old and new protagonist, the weird but fun interaction between the 2 Composers, the new friendships revealed and formed
-        Sho being in the main cast is something so uniquely TWEWY and uniquely Sho
-        Still good music
-        Still many fun side quests, some of them really uphold the same quirky spirit of the old game and some are surprisingly touching
-        Many new nice stores and yummy looking foods to explore
-        The map is really easy to memorize for me, it’s fun to travel around the “current” Shibuya to see all the differences compared to the past
-        The social network is crazy and interesting to read through
-        Has an anti-frustration system to help 100% complete the game more easily and earn money faster, so post-game is relatively managable.
-        Overall, I really feel the efforts the team poured into making this as their passion project, not just during the development process but for all the last 14 years. They showed the vision of what they wanted to make, at the same time giving something to both the old as well as new fans.
CONS:
-        The biggest problem with the game is scenario writing. The story is so heavily back-loaded. The director himself thought it would be better to balance out the tension flow by adding more at the beginning but gave in to the scenario writer in the end, probably due to time pressure. This results in an underwhelming execution of characterization and lots of wasted potentials for the first half of the game.
-        I struggle to view it as a stand-alone game, since the backstory and the old cast both play such an important role in the core of the game. If someone plays this game without having played the OG, they can only enjoy it on surface value at best.
-        The new cast is nice but most of them aren’t quite as intriguing as the old cast, maybe it’s cuz they’re all too nice deep down that they lack a little bit of an edge, of that batshit craziness that everyone in the OG used to have? I think some characters (Fret, Nagi) ended up weaker in terms of characterization because the writer is too afraid of making them unlikeable – which kind of backlashed cuz they only became likable in the most expectable way to cater for a specific group of fans. I would have wished for the other team leaders to be more crazy too, had they not suffered 30+ loops of the Game…
-        The CAMERAWORK IS HELL.
-        Gameplay does get tedious at certain points with all the time travels.
-        Shiba is so badly written as a villain, some Shinjuku characters should be given more screentime cutting into Shiba’s– like Hishima or Kaie or even, Hazuki (though his limited presence also solidified his importance).
-        Some of the main character designs, for example Beat’s hairstyle and his food reactions are hilariously bad. What’s the point of covering up most of his unique facial features?
-        Some of the minor/side characters’ design are too cool for them to have such a small role (eg: Ayano, Eiru). Ryoji did get much screentime but is nowhere as fun as Makoto was.
-        Overall the scope of this game is made a little too big for the team to handle as perfectly as the last game that was very compact, it felt somewhat rushed in development too so the missing pieces are clearly there in the final picture
The entry fee versus paying for it all in the end
An important difference between the Neo game and the original Shibuya game was that the Shibuya rule asked for an entry fee that is the Player’s most important asset, stated as a chance the Composer gives them to reexamine themselves. Meanwhile, the Shinjuku rule neither encourages nor allows personal growth and ultimately aims to erase as many Players as possible. It’s a pity we were never introduced to the full Shinjuku rulebook, as it seems like the system there focuses more on building up power and a grand government to compare with the individuality-driven system of Shibuya.
When you have to compare the new game and the original game (OG), this is an important factor to consider. Also, the OG has a serious storyline running through and through, locked with a different partner/GM creating unique atmosphere for each week and you don’t get to see your old partners again until the end. NEO’s team system does not allow such deep insight and communication between the Players. All of your teammates are always there throughout, the dynamic does change with each new addition but it is not as prominent as a partner change.
Another important factor is how the OG was built from scratch for a new platform as “something no one has ever seen before”, while Neo recycled a lot of old unused ideas from the previous development (check out this interview for more details). The development team for NEO lacks 2 key members and had a change of writer so the final product is not as strongly bound together as the last game.
The new cast is definitely inspired by today’s teenagers (from the view of creators), compared to the old cast they’re more sociable and always seem to take whatever works for them despite feeling unstable inside. They are all innocent and genuinely nice kids, avoiding to hurt each other to a degree that they end up keeping some sort of distance. They’re also unable to communicate at deeper levels, always stagnant at this half-baked stage of equilibrium without any motivation to get to the core of things. That is the cost of entering the game without an entry fee, without even dying or having a reason to be there/to fight seriously. These kids were stolen from the RG into a Game that was decidedly the worst environment for them to change or develop, just wandering around cluelessly to find a way “out” until tragedies started to unfold one by one and they ended up being charged the total sum of the price for their actions – ultimately losing everything in the end.
That is, I believe, a story arc which can resonate more to the youth of today rather than of my generation. If the message of the old game was to “listen”, enjoy life to the fullest and accept to trust others, the message of the new game is to “speak up” from the inside, trying to understand yourself and take actions instead of just going with the flow and finally, to take responsibility for such actions.
If Neku was handpicked by the Composer for being the special one with an all-dense soul to ensure victory of the game then Rindo was just a normal kid chosen out of random by Kubo to be his back-up plan, who just happened to have a high enough imagination to awaken the incredible power from his pin. Rindo was then officially chosen by the Composer as Josh picked up and handed the pin to him again, this time not as Josh’s personal Proxy – but as the Proxy to represent the normal people of Shibuya and via whom he could gamble if humans can fight for their own fate.
The underworld heroine and the hero with little of his own
Tumblr media
Shoka is for me a refreshing and layered heroine. She’s the kind of character that took at least 3 trials of creators to form as a complete individual – that included Nomura who gave her the base design and Reaper background, Gen who gave a more cunning touch and the writers who made her English dialogues more punchy. Dishonesty equals “tsundere” is such a cliché, so the English writers tried really hard to avoid that trope in my opinion, while still letting her good intention come through.
She serves as the character who is informed of everything the players should have known, and there was almost nothing she could do about it. Almost. Until she met Rindo.
They were drawn to each other by sharing a state of “not having anything of their own”. They both started out with not being able to truly know themselves, Shoka even hated her RG life but also managed to mature from that stage before Rindo. She must have vibed with Shiki’s love and passion in the Gatto Nero threads, initiating her connection with Shibuya and understanding herself more. With Shoka as Swallow, they were able to open up to each other and offer mental support… but was still not getting to the centre of their problems because for all this time, Shoka could not tell Rindo the most important things about herself.
How did Shoka feel when she met Rindo at the UG? She probably didn’t want to hope that he would live the day until she witnessed the Twisters’ potentials. From the very beginning, they were both incredibly conscious of each other and also constantly frustrated that the person they happened to “notice” was such a condescending bitch/a clueless loser. The Shinjuku Reapers are overall quite drunk in power and uncompassionate to Players, Shoka included. She is also a master of dissociation, which results in her constant boredom, tone swings, haughtiness and subconsciously distancing herself from the friend – the boy she cares about – from false hope, as she judged from facts that it was a hopeless situation where nothing could ever be. Maybe she is naturally a bit of a chameleon just like her name suggests (Shoka 紫陽花 = hydrangea, the color-changing flower), so putting on an act and always dissociating herself from what’s important was easy, while hiding her contradiction was impossible. It was the ex-Reaper Beat who broke it out to her, that she should decide whether she really cared and wanted to do something for a change. He knew how it felt like to cross that line, and knew she wanted to too.
Shoka is endeared by many of the Shinjuku Reapers and has shown independent acts of kindness (the Shinjuku ghost), proving that her kind and truthful side is as real as her harsh and dishonest side – which makes her a nice mirror to the previous heroine Shiki, who also embraced a dichotomy of self-complex and self-love within her character. In the end, she was the first of the new cast to ultimately accept all that is important to her and independently made the decision to help save Shibuya despite all costs.
She was jealous at Rindo’s interaction with Tsugumi and Kanon but remained silent cuz she wasn’t at a place to have any say about it. She also didn’t reveal about Swallow because that would only add an awkward irrelevance to their current situation, as she was too ready to face erasure at the end of the Game. She only wished to “play a game” with him, be it FanGo or the Reapers’ Game. The tension that the team could only feel at the end, she’s felt it the entire time. The song “DIVIDE” is applicable to not just one bond in the game, but it always makes me think of theirs. There is always a “divide” between her and Rindo throughout the course of their journey, as the living and the dead, as a Player and Reaper, as someone who has a place to return to and someone who doesn’t, someone who knows little but wields too much power and someone who knows a lot despite not being able to do much.
“If only I had the chance to connect with you on the other side
But time goes on, and without us realizing it
The battle is getting heated
Time goes on, and without us realiazing it
Divided again”
To be honest, maybe I didn’t grow any affection for the new main cast from Rindo’s perspective but from Shoka’s. Since I started to sympathize with Shoka, I started to see the boy in a more “real” way. The real Rindo, behind his peaceful façade with others, would lash out on Shoka for her unfairly harsh attitude while none of the others cared. He could also subtly feel that mantle of unspoken secrets from her, her own contradictions, the unresolved chemistry between themselves – and not knowing what to do with it rather than to feel angry with all the unfairness he could not process. (As a Libra too, he’s triggered the most by unfairness!)
It is actually a positive development as he’s at least “reacting” to something strongly now rather than to keep evading his problems. During my replay, I clearly saw the difficult situation Shoka was in, her remaining harshness after the Motoi incident was due to her internal struggle with a mission to save her own life, versus a chance to really be with the team. Her decision was to do both at the risk of losing favour from both sides. Rindo started to accept her layer by layer, as the person who resonated the most to her contradicting nature from the start and knew that via learning her resolve, he has learnt his too.
Later into the game, she even got too much of his attention. Maybe even without knowing she’s Swallow, he’s familiar with her thinking direction and Swallow had always been closer to him than any other friend. It was only after she had to betray her important ones twice that she could start being truly honest. The scene when she died a 2nd time left a strong impression in me, the little reveal let Rindo know that he is also losing Swallow as he’s losing Shoka – and that only death could drive the last secret out of her. Her final “Later, loser” echoed through Rindo as it was the final truth, with only him remaining to hear it: they had actually, already lost everything.
Rindo was the boy who never dared to face all that matters to him until he lost it all, fighting an unfair battle in the faith that they would somehow still win. Shoka was the girl who always knew what was dear to her, but never dared to think she could be together with them ever after and still threw her all into a battle she knew was losing. I think they stir each other on naturally to fill out their gaps, similar to what the Shibuya game partner systerm would have aimed for. The end reward was a little divine intervention to help close up the divide between them once and for all.
During the game there was not enough space to process anything personal so at the ending when they officially became “friends”, it was an important affirmation of their bond. Some people complained it was friendzoning but it’s not, they just have arrived at the perfect place to start something more. “From now on, we will truly be together” – I read it as that kind of message.
The heroine from a lost battle, with her story taken away
Tumblr media
After reading the secret reports and playing the game to be surprised of how small a role Tsugumi had in the main game despite being the “Hype-chan” thought to be a major character of the next TWEWY installment, many fans would feel sad at a missed opportunity to see the Shinjuku arc in full depiction.
It was shown clearly that, a Shinjuku arc was very carefully planned out and is a vital part of the whole story, yet it could not be made due to various circumstances behind the development scene. I would assume, that the team were not able to make a TWEWY game that ended on a despairing note, but it already happened in their mind, thus becoming a mental burden that forced them to break away from it and started the game anew with NEO. A significant part of NEO became the healing arc for the Shinjuku characters, especially for Tsugumi though I really wished more emphasis should have been placed on her rather than Shiba. We didn’t even get to see her brother – Shinjuku’s Conductor who had a vital role and instead was given the clueless Shiba, who had absolutely no idea what’s going on all the way until the last day in NEO. It’s as if Tsugumi has had her story stolen away from her, because her own battle ended with a saddening loss.
I think every time the game creators look at Tsugumi, they would feel that sadness too. Maybe to them, she is a bigger character than what is seen by the fans, as despite their failed effort to depict her story, she’s lived in their mind for all these years through periods of destruction, healing and rebuild.  Though it is a pity we could not get to experience the full scope of the Shinjuku story, the creators was clear about the place they wished for it to arrive at.
Individuality, connection and the social network
Tumblr media
The team system adapted from Shinjuku rulebook does not allow much room for personal development, as the team dynamic is closer to a work relationship forced to bear results, than a spiritual bond to max out all corners of understanding as found in the partnership system. The old Shibuya system allowed only 1 winner and 1 week limit per game, while the new rule declares for a 1 winning team and only the team at last place will be erased – the other teams will enter another loop. Furthermore, whichever team to challenge the unwinnable Ruinbringers will face the risk of ending up dead last followed by erasure. As a result, the longest-standing teams are most likely not the strongest ever recorded, but the ones who have figured out a strategy to simply survive until something changes, enjoying their newly found social constructs while they are at it. Basically, it is a system to hypnotise players into the illusion that they are still “living”.
Therefore, we as players would not get to the core of each Player individually as fast and directly as we did in the last game. The Twisters were able to stand out not because they’re powerful, they only started to have a real chance after growing enough to each form a meaningful and personal connection to another teammate. It did not come as a team, nor did it intiate from the existing friendship between Rindo and Fret. In fact, I did not find much solidity or anything truly note-worthy about the main team and new characters within themselves until they started clashing with other team members, Reapers and new recruits from week 2 onwards. Rindo found his personal development with Shoka (via a clash with Motoi and pretty much a mini dating sim between them), then via the confrontation of his role with Neku; Fret found his with Kanon then Nagi, the team learned about the real Neku via Beat, Neku entered the UG via Coco’s wish to save Tsugumi… it was not the team but their personal links that empowered them to fight and solve each of their problems.
The other team leaders may have failed because they did not form such personal links, after 30+ hopeless loops Fuya’s team all fell apart to pursue their own interest even at the cost of erasure, Motoi quit his KOL façade to work like a dog for the Reapers (probably to save just his own ass not his team), while Kanon dropped her tricks to find changes via honest cooperation in acceptance of a fair loss. The despairing note in that is huge without making much of a scene because their failure didn’t happen at their best effort to “win”, but in their last attempt to find a way “out”. Even Shiba got his way “out” in the end thanked to his personal friendship with Hishima and Tsugumi.
Something has shifted in the mindset of the game creators in the last 14 years, as both games are about “connection vs individuality” but the last game focuses more on connection between just individuals and this one on the overall network that is formed out of those individual connections.
The introduction of Beat into the main cast was truly the bridge between old and new, they helped each other out in several turns before officially recruiting him. Beat is a character whom a lot of fans including myself have felt somewhat concerned about after Neku disappeared from the RG, so when the new kids welcomed Beat with warm and organic interaction and Beat seemed happy, I started to feel like I wanted to help them out too! I think the overall team chemistry is enjoyable enough for new players, but I could warm up to the new kids more from the pov of a returning character – whom I’m glad to be Beat, as the older brother figure who is genuinely kind, fun, serious and upbeat at the same time; who is needed and needs the kids in return.
The social network is a fun and refreshing feature. You can read all of the crazy tidbits about Shibuya and the links each character have formed with the town people, it’s also fun to visualize how the characters act off screen. Characters’ profiles provide extra insight into their background too, like how it reveals Tsugumi has been friend with Coco during her time in the RG. During the game when not all characters have showed up, you can sometimes guess which empty spot will belong to whom. For example there is a 1 character linking to Neky that is not linked to anyone else, so I could guess that was Joshua, and that another character linking only to Joshua was probably Hazuki, hinting that the 2 Composers are related before either of them even showed up.
Tumblr media
Hazuki only showed up for 5 minutes, but his presence is so vital and true to the game that I think he is the most memorable out of the new cast. The two Composers have such an intriguing bond, with their yin/yang or phoenix/dragon themes, opposite color design, the sempai/kouhai tone and the way they keep some sort of distance/work relationship as if it’s mandatory between Higher beings, yet at the same time they can talk so casually because they are truly equal – and different from one another. I have written a separate meta on them here.
Some people pointed out, that all Shinjuku characters’ names and themes are based off Hanafuda cards and the Phoenix in Hanafuda belongs to the Paulownia suit – which is Joshua’s name flower. This is so interesting because it feels like the creators somehow saw it as a sign to interweave the Shibuya and Shinjuku storylines together. Though it doesn’t come out much on the surface, it’s fascinating nonetheless considering both Josh and Haz had at some point interfered with the other town’s affairs.
“Shibuya tour with Haz” was such a special scene, as it happened between 2 characters who do not/no longer have a reason to care about Shibuya, on the subject of what is worth saving about Shibuya. Hazuki carried out the purification of Shinjuku and stepped in to restore Shibuya just as part of his job and unlike Hanekoma or Joshua who both possess profound understanding of humanity, he really didn’t know humans at all. Rindo’s irrational wish invoked in him a sense of curiosity, to try gambling on something irrationally and learning a bit of what his senior have experienced. With all the pieces put together, it provides an overview on Higher beings as a whole, and that Joshua and Hanekoma are really the odd ones out with Hazuki being somewhere in between them and the rest.
The old friends
Tumblr media
It’s easy to have returning characters overshadow the new cast as they have already matured out of their personal story arc and stayed in our hearts for all this time. In the end, I have managed to enjoy both the old and new cast separately and altogether, and they will both find their own place in our memory of this game for the long term.
Sho is truly as crazy as ever, the game wouldn’t be the same if Sho is any less of what he is. Sometimes it doesn’t feel like Neky or Beat is younger than Nagi at all, with moments when it seems like Neky has aged 14 years instead of 3 years. His friendship with Coco surprised me pleasantly, and their interaction together with Beat was fun to watch. Rhyme’s found a new dream and her friendship with Kaie is precious too, especially considering that she can still talk to him online after the game ended. Josh and Neku’s interaction suggested that they have resolved the past and are on equal terms now, they even parted ways in good spirit and I don’t feel any worry about them like I did before.
Tumblr media
Neku and Shiki’s reunion scene was beautiful, theirs is such a special bond that it has grown and supported them even without being able to see each other. I am so happy to see them all again and that they stay true to who they are, albeit looking more grown up, cooler and happier than ever before.
Overall, NEO can’t become a classic on par with the OG, but is definitely a good sequel and a good game in its own rights. I’m happy with whether or not there will be a 3rd game to complete the 3 monkeys theme, but if there will be – I hope the creators can really find the time to learn from the last 2 games and start over with a fresh mindset and strong core.

Red Thread AU
The Wither prank was just that - a prank. Just a little bit of mischief to help Grian pass the time. But something about the way Mumbo reacted is itching at his brain, and he just can’t leave it alone. Why did he so quickly assume the invisible presence was a demon? What did he mean by “I’ve been concerned about this?”  Something isn't adding up, and no matter where the thread leads him, he isn't going to stop until he's figured out just how much his friend isn't telling him.
~
What is the Red Thread AU? It’s a tangled-up mystery of slowly building information, set in Hermitcraft Season 8, with Mumbo, Grian, False, Impulse, Zedaph, and Xisuma as the main players. (So far!) Do you like worldbuilding? Funky magical species? Do you miss Sherlock Grian from season 6? Do you think False deserves just about 200% more appreciation and badass-ness in general? Do you want to see all of that play out at the hands of a writer who kind-of-mostly-maybe-67% knows what they’re doing? Then you’re going to love Red Thread! You can read it here.
(I am incredibly bad at summarizing or promoting pretty much anything, but I figured now that I’m deep enough into writing to know this project is actually going to stick, a little explanation might be helpful. More info under the cut, for those of you who like a little more context before committing :])
Things That Red Thread Has, part 2!
- Retired demon hunter False, friendly demon Impulse, Grian’s Gone And Opened A Whole Big Can Of Worms, an Xisuma with funky admin lore, a Zedaph who’s really just here for the vibes (and to hop between layers of reality at will but that’s second priority really)
- Oh, and also Mumbo’s a [SPOILERS]. That’s sort of. Yeah that gets important real quick.
- A funky format unlike anything I’ve ever done before (but I’m having so much fun with it)
- Trigger warnings at the beginning of each chapter and plot summaries in the end notes for those who have to skip (because I like to make my writing as safe as possible for as many people as possible)
- The ShadeSwift Guarantee of: everyone will be both alive in the end, and still friends in the end, for those of you (like me) who sometimes get anxious about such things in hermitfics :)
- A literal multiverse worth of worldbuilding, complete with different planes of reality and so, so many mechanics to do with how to get between them
- Fight scenes! Because I am a giant nerd
- Faux multi-media and fake document excerpts! See: giant nerd
- (hopefully) a format that means you don’t actually need to know any of this beforehand! I’ve really done my best to cut down on the exposition and reveal information slowly. That being said, confusion is sort of...a feature and not a bug in this format, so just hang tight and enjoy the ride!

This was such a fun fic to research! I highly recommend watching the Try Guys Lie Detector videos if you'd like some context. Coops credit goes to @lumosinlove!
“Why are there so many of these?” Remus muttered, shaking his hand around. A series of multicolored wires smacked the table and Marlene rolled her eyes as she passed. “Sorry.”
“Welcome back to Lion Pride!” Sirius said as he turned to the camera with a smile. “I’m Sirius Black, and I’m here today with my husband, Remus Lupin, to get some answers.”
“We are also joined by Mark, who is an expert at reading polygraphs,” Remus added.
A middle-aged man in a blue shirt raised his hand in a slight wave. “Thanks for having me. Since you’re already hooked up, you’ll be going first. This machine measures your sweat, your heart rate, and a couple other common tells for liars. Do you lie often?”
Remus hesitated; Sirius hid a smile in his hand. “No, since I suck at lying, but I’ll do it if it makes somebody feel better. I think I’m pretty good at that.”
They stared at the polygraph for a moment before Mark nodded. “Checks out. Take it away, Sirius.”
Sirius cleared his throat and took a notecard from his stack. “Was going to college worth it?”
“Yes,” Remus answered almost immediately. “I don’t know what I would have done without getting my degree and staying close to hockey. Wouldn’t have met you, for one.”
“True,” Mark said without looking up.
“Do you like my playoff beard?”
“I do, yeah.” Mark raised his eyebrows and Remus pressed his lips together. “Okay, sometimes it’s a little much, but you’re pretty good about keeping things under control.”
“Alright,” Sirius said with playful skepticism. “Good to know. Who’s your favorite Lion?”
“Besides you? Talker.”
“Yeah, we don’t need a polygraph to know that,” Sirius laughed when Mark nodded. “Did you like my last haircut?”
“Oh, fuck,” Remus said under his breath, looking away.
“I knew it.”
“It wasn’t bad—”
“He’s lying,” Mark interrupted.
Remus turned to him with betrayal written all over his expression. “Dude!”
“You are.”
“Answer the question, Loops,” Sirius said, leaning back in his chair. “How did you feel about my last haircut?”
He bit his lower lip. “It was a little too short and really threw me off for a couple days. But you didn’t like it, either.”
“I didn’t,” Sirius agreed, grinning. “But I vividly remember several ‘no, honey, you look great’ conversations.”
“Next question,” Remus sighed.
“Ha! This one is self-explanatory. Have you ever lied to me?”
“Yes, but only when I knew it would make you feel better.”
“True,” Mark confirmed.
“Do you think you’re a better dog owner than me?”
Remus thought for a moment. “No.”
“True.”
“Do you think I’m a better dog owner than you?” Sirius asked.
“No. I think we balance each other well, and we wouldn’t be as good apart.”
“True again.”
“Interesting.” Sirius surveyed the cards. “Do you trust me?”
“A hundred percent,” Remus answered without hesitation. Mark nodded.
“Do you think I would be a good dad?”
He rested his chin on his hand, then smiled a little. “I do, yeah. I think you know what to do and what notto do, and you’re very protective without being controlling. So, yeah. You’d be a good dad.”
Mark glanced over. “He’s telling the truth.”
Sirius leaned across the table and kissed Remus on the cheek. “Merci. Oh, this’ll be fun. Is any of our relationship just for show, especially on Lion Pride?”
Remus narrowed his eyes with a hum. “Yes and no.”
“Pick one,” Mark said.
“In a general sense? Yeah, sure. We’re not perfect all the time, but we pretend to be. The specifics stay honest, though. None of our relationship is based on building clout. We keep the core genuine.”
The polygraph beeped for a moment. “He’s telling the truth.”
“This one is super morbid. Ready?” Sirius rested his elbows on the table. “You are Spiderman, and you’re holding two trolleys over a lake. One holds me, and one holds Jules. Which one do you drop?”
“I love you, but I would absolutely drop you,” Remus said after only a brief period of thought.
“Oh, thank god,” Sirius huffed. “I would be so upset if it was the other way around.”
“Right? I love you more than anything, but it’s Jules.”
Remus turned to Mark, who shrugged. “True.”
“Do you think we live together well?” Sirius asked.
“After a full year of it?” Remus laughed. “Yeah, I do.”
“True.”
Sirius checked the list and his eyebrows rose. “You’re going to hate this one.”
“Am I?”
“What do you really think about my parents?”
Remus’ smile turned thin and Sirius spread his hands in a see? motion. He was quiet for a few seconds, then ran a hand through his hair. “I don’t think I’m allowed to use those words on this channel. Um, I don’t like them.”
Mark snorted. “Very true.”
“Last one,” Sirius warned, though his eyes crinkled happily at the edges. “Do you know how much I love you?”
“That’s cute,” Remus said. “And…yeah. I think I do.”
“Wrong,” Sirius said before Mark could answer. “You have absolutely no idea.”
“Sap,” Remus scoffed. His cheeks were pink, and he pressed a quick kiss to Sirius’ temple while they swapped chairs.
“He was telling the truth,” Mark informed them as he helped Remus untangle his arm and hand, then transferred the devices to Sirius. “Though I am interested to see the flipside. Do you lie often?”
“Not anymore. I’m pretty good at it, though.”
“First one: have you ever had a crush on one of your teammates?”
“Oh, for sure,” Sirius said with a light laugh. “I never did anything about it, but I was the king of pining for a solid decade.”
“True,” Mark affirmed.
Remus cocked an eyebrow. “Who is the handsomest Lion?”
Sirius bit his lip, making a thoughtful noise. “That’s a tough one. I’m assuming a player other than you?”
“Yes.”
“In that case…I think Dumo is the classic definition of ‘handsome’ even though he is so not my type, but Kasey might be the most attractive.”
“Not Pots?” Remus teased. Sirius pulled a face and flicked him on the arm.
“He’s being honest,” Mark said.
“Do you think you’re the best player on the team?”
“…no.”
“He’s lying.”
“Shit.” Sirius sighed heavily as Remus looked at him over the edge of his notecard. “Look, it’s—it’s not an ego thing.”
“It’s the captain thing, isn’t it?” Remus sounded quite amused.
“Yeah,” Sirius said, defeated. “It’s stupid, I know.”
Mark nodded. “He’s telling the truth.”
“Oh, another parent one,” Remus remarked. “Did my parents scare you?”
“Not really.”
Mark furrowed his brows. “You’re right in the middle.”
“Huh.” He thought for a few seconds. “I think seeing you all together was a lot like meeting Dumo’s family the first time. You’re just so…normal. And you genuinely like each other. So I wasn’t scared, but it was definitely an adjustment.”
“He’s telling the truth.”
Remus nodded. “Yeah, they adore you. I’m glad we didn’t chase you off, though. Does it really bother you that I leave my socks around the house?”
Sirius pressed his lips together as several people off-screen began to laugh. “I can’t answer that.”
“See, that’s all the answer I need.”
“Fine. Yes, but only because I don’t know where you get them from. You don’t actually own that many socks, and I still find them every-fucking-where.”
“True,” Mark said.
“I’ll try to keep a better eye on things,” Remus assured him, smiling. “You are Spiderman, and you’re holding two trolleys over a lake. One holds me, and one holds James. Which one do you drop?”
“Goddammit,” Sirius muttered, tilting his head back. He thought for a long, long moment. “I can’t answer that.”
The polygraph buzzed. “False.”
Sirius shook his head. “Neither of you. I wouldn’t drop either.”
Mark raised his eyebrows. “True.”
“On a much lighter note,” Remus said with a cough. “Which of us is lazier?”
“Me.”
“True.”
“Really?” Remus gave him a baffled look. “You work so hard all the time.”
Sirius shrugged. “Agree to disagree?”
“Fine, but I hope you know taking time for yourself doesn’t mean you’re lazy.” He shuffled through the cards. “Oh, this’ll be very interesting. Do you think I talk too much?”
“No.”
“True.”
Remus sat back in his chair, a pleased blush coloring his cheeks. “Wasn’t expecting that. Good answer, I love you. Do you think we’ll get divorced someday?”
“Oh, god, no.” Sirius’ previous self-satisfaction turned to revulsion. “I don’t even want to think about that.”
“True,” Mark said again. “For someone who said he was good at lying, you’re very honest.”
“No point in lying with that thing around, is there?”
Remus shrugged. “Saves time, for sure. Have you kissed any of our friends?”
“Yeah,” he snorted.
To his credit, Mark didn’t even let a smile slip through. “True.”
“Do you enjoy getting stopped in public by fans?”
“Fans, yes. Ex-fans who take it upon themselves to explain why I shouldn’t be gay, no.” He paused, then shook his head with a smile. “I’m not good at talking to people, but I do like it when people say hello. It’s cool.”
“True.”
Remus raised his notecards. “Two left, and the first one is hella morbid.”
“Hella,” Sirius murmured, earning himself a teasing glare.
“Watch it. If I died, how long would you wait to get remarried?”
The playfulness dropped away. “What?”
“If I died, how long would you wait to get remarried?” Remus repeated.
Sirius looked horrified by the very thought. “I wouldn’t.”
“True,” Mark said, seemingly uncaring about the alarm on Sirius’ face.
“Even if it happened tomorrow?”
“First of all, thanks for my new nightmare. Second, no. I wouldn’t get married again.” He kissed Remus’ forehead gently. “Let’s not test that, though. Like ever.”
“Deal. Ready for the last one?”
“As long as nobody else is in danger of death.”
“I dunno, it’s a tough one.” Remus gave him a solemn look across the table. “I need you to be really honest with me on this one. Do you think you have better hair?”
Sirius blinked at him, then burst out laughing. Even Mark’s lips twitched into a suppressed smile. “Oh my god.”
“What’s so funny?” Remus asked, completely poker-faced. “This is important, honey. I’m really counting on you to be genuine with me here—”
“You can’t even—” Sirius broke off again and gestured to Remus’ face, which turned steadily pinker as he bit down a grin. “You can’t even keep a straight face.”
“My face is the only straight thing about me. You know this. Answer the question.”
“He’s trying so hard,” Sirius managed as he looked to the camera. “So hard, mon dieu.”
“Shit,” Remus muttered as he finally gave in and hid his laughter in the crook of his elbow. “We were doing so well until now! It’s the last question, just answer it!”
Sirius wiped a tear from the corner of his eye and nodded. “I do think I have better hair, but I love yours, too.”
Mark chuckled. “True.”
“It would help if you finally got a haircut that was different from the one you’ve had since you were thirteen.”
Remus closed his eyes, sighing. “Y’know, exposing my haircut choices for the entire internet to mock really wasn’t how I planned this day going.”
“Isn’t that the point of this whole video?”
“Mark, I’m not sure if we owe you an apology or not, but thank you for putting up with us.” Remus turned back to the camera with an easy smile. “Thanks for joining us today, everyone. Make sure to like and subscribe to Lion Pride for more videos like this!”

Random Thoughts: A Dark Past
This came into mind; the Male reader is a prisoner of war and is taken back to the mainland. As usual, me and @softboy5393 fanboying over this.
I went overboard with this.
You were taken by a Titan with a long face, like a horse into its mouth. You fell unconscious during the whole time.
When you woke, you were in some room. You looked around to see where you were, you noticed you had a red armband on your left arm. 'What the... where am I?'
Then the door opened. "Ah, I see you're awake." the unknown person said along with others. He had blonde hair and an undercut style which was pushed back. [This] He also had an armband on, but his was more of a lighter red.
You took the people that walked and noticed that Reiner was there. "YOU DAMN TRAITOR!" you attacked him. You didn't do that much damage before getting pulled off of him.
"WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT? I THOUGHT WE WERE FRIENDS! DON'T TOUCH ME!" you yelled trying to get away from them.
"So, you're the guy that Pieck took? You island devils are sure are something." The one with blonde hair said, sitting down. Reiner was dusting himself off.
"I guess we should introduce ourselves? I'm Pieck. You already know Reiner. The one with glasses is Zeke and the one next to you is Porco." The girl- Pieck said. She had long, disheveled shoulder-length black hair, a Greek nose, and relaxed dark brown eyes.
"You probably have questions as to where you are?" you calmed down a bit to respond.
"Yes. And why am I here? Why did you take me from my home?" you said, backing away from them.
"You're in the nation of Marley. And it was Reiner's idea to take you."

It had been 4 years since you were captured. You've kind of gotten used to the new environment. 'So, humanity didn't die after all?'
You were shocked by the outside world. There were these flying ships in the skies, a cart that was driving without horses leading it. The food you have never seen before. A picture that was too detailed for any person to draw.
"That's a blimp, that's a car, and that's a photograph," Zeke said, showing you everything.
You also got to meet others. "That's Gabi, Falco, Sophia, and Udo. They are the next in line to inherit the Titans."
Gabi looked at you with mistrust. She had hatred in her eyes. "Don't mind her, she hates anyone from the 'Island of Devils.'" Zeke whispered into your ear.
It has taken a while for Gabi to get used to you but in due time.
⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓
You were walking with Pieck, Reiner, and Porco in the Liberio Internment Zone. There were stands everywhere and colorful decorations everywhere. You were amazed.
"Today's the festival, M/n. Ambassadors and famous families from all over the world are going to be here for Willy's speech. Of course, since you're with us, you'll be joining too." Pieck said she was your favorite out of all of them.
"Let's go try some things. Try this." she gave you some kind of dessert with a cone?
You gave it one lick... "WHY IS IT SO COLD?!?!" you said, others were looking at you weirdly.
"What's this?" You picked some triangle-shaped food with toppings and cheese? "Mmm, this is good! I never had anything like it!"
⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓⁓
You had a fun time at the festival but now it was time for Willy Tybur's speech. You sat with the others but Porco, Pieck, and Zeke were requested.
Then the sounds of instruments began to play and Willy came on stage. He bowed before starting. "Allow me to tell you a story."
(This is the entirety of Willy's speech)
"Approximately one hundred years ago, the Eldian race ruled the world with the power of the Titans."
"Between the appearance of the Founder, Ymir, and the present day, Titans have stolen the lives of so many people that the present population of the world..." showed Titans eating people. "Could die thrice over and still not compare."
Then the lights turned red, people appeared covered in blood and screaming. "Because of Titans, and an extraordinary number of races, and the cultures ad histories thereof, have been stolen from the world."
"That slaughter has defined human history and the history of the Eldian Empire. And when the Eldian Empire ran out of enemies, it turned to the killings of its own kind."
You were shocked. Was this the history of your ancestors? Were they like this?
"Thus began the Great Titan War."
"Houses holding eight Titans shed blood in combat among themselves. In these desperate times, one Marleyan saw a path to victory. He was our hero, Helos."
"By artfully waging an information war, he led the Eldian Empire's biggest threats to turn against and kill one another. By joining hands with the Tybur family, they forced the unbeatable King Fritz to flee and retreat to Paradis island." the crowd began to clap. You were awestruck.
"But even exiled to the island, the king still held power. Tens of millions of Titans are capable of crushing the world flat still slumber on that island." the crowd gasps at the revelation and fear.
"The fact that our world still exists undisturbed to this day is pure luck. That is the only explanation our Titan experts could muster up. My fatherland, Marley, decided to take the initiative against the island and sent four Titans to neutralize the threat, but that plan failed and only the Armored Titan returned."
'That's why Reiner broke down the walls.'
"In other words, the Eldian Empire, the scrounge of human history, is alive and well."
"Now, the story up to this point consists of facts known to everyone. The truth, however, differs slightly. From here on, I'll discuss the memories passed down in my family alongside the Warhammer Titan."
"The complete truth will be revealed here and now for the first time. Approximately one hundred years ago, the one who ended the Great Titan War was neither Helos nor the Tybur family." Two people standing side by side to him.
One was represented Helos and the other, the Tybur family.
"The man who brought an end to that war and saved the world was King Fritz. He came to regret the Eldian Empire's savage history and the infighting among his own people."
"Above all, he grieved for the Marleyans and the oppression they lived under. When he inherited the Founding Titan, he and the Tybur family devised a plan." The lights turned blue with King Fritz and the Tybur family shaking hands in agreement.
"To establish a single Marleyan as a hero in the war. His name: Helos. After that, King Fritz moved as many Eldians to Paradis as he could. Erecting the great walls around them."
"He left a warning if anyone threatens his peace, countless Titans would be unleashed in retaliation. However, he never intended make good on this threat." Things began to add up to you. That's why the world hates Eldians. 'I'm not what they say we are!'
He continued. "King Fritz made a vow of renouncing war and bound his successors to uphold it, just as he had. Thus his ideology was passed down to each new King of the walls and the Titans with the power to crush the world remain dormant."
"Marley didn't stop Eldia and pure luck hasn't kept the world from being crushed, it was the king of the walls, Karl Fritz, a man who yearned for peace. That's it. That's all he wanted. He said if Marley grew strong someday and came in force to shatter his peace and seize the Founding Titan, he would accept it."
"He believed the sins his people committed were so horrific that they could never be atoned for."
"When the day of retribution finally comes, I will accept it until then let me enjoy this walled paradise, free from strife and conflict. I ask for nothing but a brief span of peace."
"Those were the final words the king left us with." King Fritz stood next to Willy bowing.
The crowd erupted into chatter. "What does this mean?" Gabi was shocked to along with her friends. You were twice as shocked as they were.
"If what he saying is true..."
"So, Marley and the Tybur family didn't save the world?"
"Willy wouldn't lie..."
"That means Paradis doesn't actually pose a threat, right?"
Willy spoked, the crowd went silent. "It's true, to secure our own safety, my family joined hands with King Fritz and became heroes to the world. While our fellow Eldians became devils but plainly, we Tyburs are petty thieves, growing fat on honor we did not earn."
"I stand before you willingly parting with my false glory because I have come to understand that the world we share is in grave danger" the crowd began to chat again. The drums began to ring.
"With the Founder's might, King Fritz erected three walls, using a great host of colossal Titans..." the background changed to colossal titans conjoining arms. "Counted together, the walls surely contains tens of millions of colossal Titans."
"They guard the King's peace as his shield and his spear or they did, but now, that peace is being threatened from within. An uprising has taken place on Paradis, the king has been deposed, the Founding Titan stolen."
The background changed to a devil. "The thief is an enemy to every man, woman, and child outside his island. An enemy of peace, his name... IS EREN JAEGER." Your eyes widen...
"If the colossal of Paradis are ordered to walk, the rumbling will be felt across the Earth and death will follow. Until now, only royalty has had the power to wield the Founding Titan and King Fritz's vow has kept his descendants from using it, but this Eren Jaeger has found a way to use the founder without having royal blood."
"Which means he could begin the rumbling at any moment. Once the walls of Paradis begin to walk, there will be nothing we can do. Except flee in vain from the sound of Earth-shaking steps that will herald our doom." your face turned into a worried one. Was this going to happen?
"These monsters will crush every city, trample every tree and flower, they will literally flatten our world. I have always hated my blood and more than anyone. I have wished that my race would disappear."
Willy sounded like he gonna burst into tears. " However, I confess that I want to live. That despite everything, I believed this world is my birthright just as it is yours."
"The people gathered here may belong to different races, different nations but if we're to survive this crisis then for the first time in history, we must join as one. SO PLEASE, if you wish to live and lend me your strength, help me protect our world's future!" The cameras began to flash. The crowd erupted into cheering.
"If we work together, we can overcome any obstacle, any threat! I ask each of you to join me as I go to fight the devils who would plunge our world into hell! HELP ME DEFEAT THEM!"
The crowd continued to clap and cheer. "Here and now, as a representative of Marley's government, I send this message to the devils of Paradis!"
"CONSIDER THIS, A DECLARATION OF WAR!" As Willy said that, a Titan erupted from the building behind the stage. A Titan you knew very well.
"Eren..."
