We regret to announce that Why Is Marvel: Us Fans Need A Hug will be ending indefinitely.
The start time, social climate, and activities in our own lives were not things that we fully considered or anticipated when we began. This was a project funded and ran by two people with no social media skills outside our own personal accounts and we think that this isn’t something we are equipped for.
We encourage anyone who has been considering starting a fan page, blog, podcast, or any other type of social account to do so. Although, we also recommend preparing yourself better than we did.
The Marvel boycott is still ongoing until Sabra/Ruth is removed from Cap 4. Keep pressuring Marvel and Disney.
Love you 3,000✨

The Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement has listed Marvel as one of the companies to boycott during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. As well as a complete boycott of Captain America: New World Order. These boycotts come at the request of numerous Palestinian film and art organizations who do not want to see the Israeli comic character Sabra/Ruth Bat-Seraph in a superhero movie.
Sabra's history is mixed. Depending on the story and the writer, she is either a noble hero or a faulty hero who doesn't hesitate to show what she thinks about Arab people. No matter she is considered the "Israeli Captain America," and though it is plausible that Marvel decided to give her the character growth she's been dodging for decades in the upcoming Captain America movie; The Falcon and The Winter Solider could suggest this possibility, it is better to request Marvel scrap the character all together then to trust that the project will represent the truth of Israel and it's apartheid regime.
We thought about this for a while and decided that the right thing to do is join the Marvel boycott.
Our first episode back was planned for the 29th and it was going to be our thoughts on The Marvels. While we are slightly disappointed to not be adding our voices to those trying to fight back against the racist and misogynistic reviews the movie continues to receive, we had to force ourselves to acknowledge that this is just a movie; Marvel is just an entertainment company, even if to one of us *coughBraydencough* it means much more than that. We are also used to arguing with misogynists and racists already so we can wait a little longer to contribute to the fray. [It's not like they listen to anything we say anyway.]
We will be boycotting all Marvel products and we will not be releasing any new episodes until Marvel removes Sabra from Captain America: New World Order.
This podcast is meant to be a fun community for all of us MCU fans who feel ostracized by those who think that superheroes are only for a certain type of audience. We are saddened to begin another pause, but we understand that this podcast with zero audience is not more important than standing with the Palestinian people.
Thank you.

Palestinian rights are human rights. We cannot allow anyone to spread damaging false information. Be better Marvel!

The podcast Why Is Marvel: Us Fans Need A Hug features two unhinged Marvel fanatics who consume more fanfiction than what is legally recommended as they canvass all sectors of this beautiful and heartbreaking entertainment company.
The hosts, Brayden and Lettie, are here to discuss just why this fandom is so fantastic. Brayden is a codependent Tony Stark Defense Squad cardholder. Lettie is a Loki apologist who still thinks fondly of Avengers Tower fics.
Each week you’ll either be rolling your eyes or kicking your feet while listening to these two loudly opinionated Marvel fangirls talk about topics ranging from how perfect Tony Stark is to how fan-driven content keeps franchises afloat.
So if you’re a Marvel superfan and currently have too many Ao3 tabs open on your phone make sure you have Jarvis set a reminder, bundle up tight, and tune in each week because Us Fans Need A Hug.
Listen to us on Spotify!
If interested in tagging us in fics or making any dedications we are on Ao3 @whyismarvelpodcast (the same user name).

The Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement has listed Disney as a pressure company. Meaning that for many reasons, we assume primarily its ownership over most entertainment, they aren’t requesting a full on boycott. Just for us to hold Disney accountable and call them out for their complicity in Israeli apartheid.
Other companies BDS deem pressure targets are Google, Amazon, Booking.com, Expedia, and Airbnb.
Companies BDS deem boycott targets are HP, Puma, Sodastream, Ahava, all Israeli goods, Remax, Siemens, Carrefour, and Axa.
BDS also supports the individual boycotting of Mcdonald’s, Burger King, Wix, Pizza Hut, Domino’s Pizza, and Papa John’s.
It has been reported that Disney has lost billions in revenue since people have started to boycott. We do not have anything against those that are boycotting Disney. In fact, if that is something you would like to do and are willing to do, we encourage it. And we understand it since many of these companies listed don’t get as much consumer interaction as Disney or made it as clear that money is all they care about.
We also understand if people do not want to support us for not joining the Disney boycott. Because ultimately we acknowledge that this is a selfish and privileged decision.
Thank you.
Here is a link to another tumblr post that goes into a little more detail about the Disney boycott.

Palestinian rights are human rights. A ceasefire is the least they deserve after 75 years of constant abuse. Free Palestine!

Why are production companies pushing for the use of A.I.?
The main reason they give is cost. Apparently, it costs less for companies to pay an actor the minimum for one appearance and then pay for A.I. software to generate whatever they want from the scans and film of the actor than to pay an actor for the continuous use of their likeness.
We are not ones to discuss the differences in cost but the amount couldn’t possibly vary that heavily considering top quality A.I. software is quite expensive. And to be blunt these companies are so incredibly rich that it would take decades for them to go bankrupt, so it’s not like they can’t afford to pay actors for their work.
What these production companies don’t seem to understand, or are choosing to ignore, is that this is simply robbery. You cannot use someone’s likeness to make profit without paying them. And it should be not only illegal but considered, across the board, morally wrong to force people into a contract that 1) they don’t understand and 2) allows the company to exploit the signees.
A.I. is meant to improve the lives of humans everywhere. Instead billion dollar businesses are using our current version of artificial intelligence to take over creative fields. Which is an attack on diversity, representation, and expression.
What is also unclear is whether these big companies expect the A.I. enthusiasts to keep movie theaters packed and streaming services popular just to see artificial renderings or if they have forgotten that what makes people flock to a movie/show are the actors in it.
Every actor no matter their screen time is important to a production. They are the ones who bring the characters to life. An actor is who gives a character all the final touches to turn them from words on a screen to someone an audience can connect with, which is the purpose of film and tv.
So basically, the AMPTP wants to rob us of wonderful olympic extras like her.
They want to ignore how some actors deliver breathtaking intimacy which ends up defining the franchise.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
They want us to say goodbye to how some actors can preform a monologue without speaking.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They want us to be okay with possibly never seeing what happens when an actor completely embodies a character.
Tumblr media
And don’t forget improv! You would be surprised with how many lead and background actors improvise the most memorable and stirring moments of a movie or show.

Why is Marvel: Us Fans Need A Hug is a Marvel Cinematic Universe and fanfiction discussion podcast that began in July of this year. We released our first two episodes before aligning ourselves with WGA & SAG-AFTRA and announcing a pause. Seen below.
Tumblr media
We had planned to make additional posts regarding the WGA & SAG-AFTRA strikes. Unfortunately, that idea was not possible at the time.
The AMPTP settling a contract with the WGA was good news and we figured an agreement with SAG-AFTRA would follow soon after. However, the AMPTP not only refused the contract offered but have deemed actors’ simple request for protection from A.I. and equitable pay as unreasonable.
Therefore, we are continuing our pause but intend to share information about the strike moving forward.
We are incredibly excited for the success of the WGA strike and hope that the AMPTP will come to their senses soon, even if it’s just in response to the backlash of them leaving negotiations.
But until that happens, we encourage everyone to stay in the fight and stay connected.
Information about and donation links for the SAG-AFTRA strike are below.
