If he hadn't become a teacher or an actor, Paul thinks he would've become a chef. But he's noticed Sally has been ill at ease, and as things are getting more serious between them, it seems fair enough to have a proper discussion about things. For Paul, that means cooking a nice meal and chatting over dinner; he's always better at talking if he's got something he also has to focus on doing. Hey, I'm not sure if you talked about this but do you think Annabeth would take Percy's last name? I have seen plenty of people in the fandom believe she won't (for obvious reasons) but I actually believed she would. The reason is that her experience as a Chase was filled with a lot of ugly memories about her father and stepmother. As a contrast to when she starts dating Percy, the Jacksons not only support her with open arms but they treat her as their own daughter.

Fredrick and Mrs. Chase neglected her for years, let her get attacked by spiders, and resented her for the monster attacks (as if that was her fault). They made her feel so unwanted, she would rather run away and live in danger then go back to them. Annabeth's abandonment issues start with her family's treatment of her. Even if they reconciled in later years, it would never be the same. The damage was already done, it was irreparable. Family dinners with the Chases would probably be awkward and formal, and somewhere in the back of her mind, Annabeth might still feel she does not belong.

However, her experience with the Jacksons is the complete opposite. Percy was the first person in a long time who made her feel loved and didn't leave her, even at the depth of Tartarus. Annabeth, who never had a proper mother figure, because Athena didn't want her and Mrs. Chase saw her as a burden, and was immediately adopted and adored by Sally Jackson. We in COTG how close she is with them. She discusses Shakespeare with Paul. She happily helps Sally around the house. When Sally announces she's pregnant, Annabeth was invited and present because she's family too. Percy even jests in the narration sometimes he thinks Annabeth would agree to marry him just to get Sally as her mother in law. Annabeth's interaction with Sally and Paul were so wholesome and sweet, and she's just so happy around them (+ Percy). And even if we don't see it, I'm sure she would bond with Estelle the same way and become her older sister figure.

My point is the Jacksons become the family to her which her own family failed to give her. Sally Jackson and Paul Blofis' infinite support combined with Percy's love for her makes up for everything she went through because of Fredrick and Mrs. Chase.

And THIS is exactly why I believe she'd take Jackson as her surname.

Even if her relationship with her father got better afterwards but that could never make up for how much he failed her when she needed him the most. And then there's the Jacksons, where all her memories of them are positive, wholesome and filled with love.

The Chases failed her, the Jacksons didn't.

i have talked about this before! i even made a poll lol. basically i go back and forth because she’s known in the demigod world as annabeth chase and is a legend, so she might believe that she brought pride to the name and wants to keep it. but on the other, i agree 1000% with everything you said and that is the reason why i’ve always leaned towards her wanting to take jackson. the jacksons are her real family and she wants to properly become one. i suppose she could hyphenate, that’s what the majority of poll voters said.

but honestly i think she would want to take jackson. even though the prideful and female empowered part of her might tell her to keep her name, i think her heart wants to take percy’s name. deep down she so badly wants to be a jackson

PJO CHALICE OF THE GODS FULL SPOILERS REVIEW

Non-spoiler review: Very wholesome. Arguably you could pick this up without prior knowledge of the past series and understand it perfectly fine. A good throwback bite sized adventure with our OG trio, literally adventuring on weekends style. Strictly within New York (and the surrounding suburbs but I know nothing of New York geography).

Such a familiar voice to ease back into and feel so at home with. Percy is Percy and will never stop being Percy.

The domestic demigod scenes were so wholesome and heartwarming, further proving Sally and Paul have created the ultimate safe space and Sally is the best mom to mom and why all demigods, gods, and other traumatised individuals just love her upon meeting her.

A LOT of wholesome interactions within the Jackson-Blofis household, between Annabeth, Percy and Grover, Annabeth and Sally, Annabeth and Paul, Paul and Percy, Percy and Grover. The family was family-ing.

Zeus continues to be supremely disgusting. In such an open way which is the closest true acknowledgement to the mythology we will get in a book series largely targeted to a younger demographic. Rick has come such a long way in how he frames his characters, acknowledging the world they live in, touching base with reality quite often in a way that feels like “yeah ofc Percy would see all this and realise this as a traumatised 17 year old living in New York City”.

At times, Percy’s rampant sarcasm throwing around all this commentary felt a touch on the nose and like “Percy Jackson is an eternal 17 year old but the world around has been adjusted to make sense for the current day and age and not the mid-2000s-2010s”. But this feeling didn’t occur very often.

But Percy looking at Ganymede as this traumatised kid who was plucked from his life to serve as Zeus’s eye candy for the rest of his immortal life. Him embracing Gary, the god of Old Age (who was giving me strong Cupid energy in terms of his metaphors and language use and general aggression), because immortality had never tempted him and being an older demigod who can actually look forward to the future is something to celebrate and cherish. Him feeling guilty about exploding on Elisson (when he was literally so overstimulated and experiencing some major sensory overload and the fear and disorientation that comes with that - like he was literally gonna die so go figure he’d let rip his powers in what was like… the most effective and helpful way possible) bc Elisson was clearly stressed out of his mind and two stressed people exploding on each other, with one being an exceptionally terrifyingly powerful demigod and one being a god who wants peace and quiet and for his river to not be polluted, is not in any way productive or healthy.

Dark!Percy stans tho, you ate. That scene was for y’all. Annabeth tho, just vibing acting as a therapist for Elisson.

But I just think the stories Rick has woven have matured in such a wonderful way, as reflected through his beloved main character, Percy. Percy has taken every turn possibly to make sure he doesn’t turn out like Luke, he doesn’t hit that point between jaded and hateful, that he doesn’t ever stop cherishing and valuing his mortality and the people around him. Him being such a rare example of a positive home life, arguably on both his mortal and godly side (see his slightly more stable relationship with Poseidon than most big three or indeed regular demigod children) allows him anchor himself and remind him exactly why he’s doing what he’s doing.

The fact that he can sway the sentiments of minor gods like Geras, or make those “small waves” with people like Barbara, or help out his friend Grover as well as reassure him of their friendship and bond without hesitation, shows time and again why Percy Jackson is such a beloved character and the blueprint of a good boyfriend. Him being so devoted to Annabeth, so delighted for his mom and Paul having a baby, him being upset about not being there in the early stages of Estelle growing up. I was fully expecting there to be a flashforward to her being born but alas not.

BUT SURELY THIS MEANS THERE WILL BE TWO MORE PARTS. WITH TWO MORE RECOMMENDATION LETTERS, RICK I WILL BE WAITING FOR THE ANNOUNCEMENT.

“Ah, Rachel.” Paul’s just embraced the weird reality of life as it is now. Demigods and monsters and all sorts of things wandering around, and it’s something he really has to get used to. He still doesn’t totally understand a lot of it, but he’s trying. Percy is really his main-- and only-- connection to the world hidden behind the Mist, and as a result, the rest of Percy’s friends and loved ones that come and go bring parts of his world into clearer focus. 

It’s not unusual for other demigods to come stop by the house, but Paul’s smile is genuine as he sees it’s Rachel there. Oracle or not, she’s still a mortal like him. Her abilities are from an odd partnership with the oracle of Delphi rather than divine blood. He steps aside to let her into the house. “Come on in! Percy’s not home right now, he’s still driving back from the city. He’ll be here in an hour maybe. Do you want tea or something? I don’t know what the kids are drinking these days, considering most of my students have barely graduated from juice boxes.” 

Notes I took while re-reading Percy Jackson. Part 1: The Lighting Theif

• Immediately after Percy finds out about his moms "death" he just goes "Welp, guess I be pretend to be seventeen and join the army." Boy, you need help.

• I think it's interesting that Chiron himself goes to teach Percy at Yancy. Like, does he often fo this? And does he just leave Mr. D in charge when he does? The camp would be destroyed in just a couple of weeks!

• Gabe is quite a lot more abusive than I remembered and it terrifies me to think that if THIS is how he's treating Percy, how would he be treating Sally when he's not looking?!?! Anyway, stan Paul Blofis.

• People forget that Percy and Annabeth's actual first interaction we her shoving pudding in his mouth and then him immediately passing out again.

• Grover supremacy.

• One of the most fun things about re-reading the series is catching all the hints to future plot points. Especially the Thalia stuff. That's always great.

• Percy can immediately tell that Dionysus is an alcoholic because living with Gabe has made him able to pick up on people like that. I-

• As much of a dirtbag as Luke is, I am ashamed to admit that I have a bit of a soft spot for him ONLY because he was the first character I really lached on too and decided "sure, your my favorite now" before his betrayal. I now acknowledge that this was a mistake.

• HOW IS THERE ANY DOUBT ABOUT PERCY'S GODLY PARENTAGE! WHAT OTHER GOD IS KNOWN TO MANIPULATE WATER?!?!?

• Percy definitely had a crush on Luke.

• Oh, also, Percabeth rights.

• I think I would have disliked they're dynamic if it stayed like how it is in this book but because of they're development later on, everything in this book is just endearing

• Percy and Grover listening to Annabeth rambling about the gateway arch and not secretly ignoring her is king behavior

• I like Ares. As in, he's entertaining but I would absolutely beat the shit out of him if given the opportunity

• "You couldn't read my name tag correctly. Are you dyslexic?" "No, I'm dead." I love this book.

•Have I mentioned that Luke is a bastard man? Because Luke is a bastard man

The Last Olympian Thoughts

So because I have absolutely 0 self-control or restraint when it comes to this series and its characters, and for The Last Olympian in particular, I could not put TLO down. Because of this I figured I couldn’t do the usual photo reaction posts I have been so far, because the spam would just be ridiculous, so I am stealing the idea from @yourstrulytaaay​ to do a masterpost instead. (Adding a Read More cause this got ridiculously long)

Fun fact, TLO came out right after i finished reading the series for the first time so it's the first PJO book i bought  and my only hard cover one for the og series. I checked the year and turns out it was published 2009, which means i was actually 9 when i read the series for the first time. I realize this is not really a fun fact but i thought i was older when I first read the series so it's blowing my mind a little ‘cause now I’m 21 and everything hits different and i still have so much love for this series and the characters Okay onto book thoughts: - i was right that this book is gonna destroy me, the first line alone made me so excited and nostalgic it's ridiculous - I love Rachel and Percy sm tbh. Her being a bit of peace and normalcy in his life without always reminding Percy of who and what he is is so good for him. Just a little escape

- of course by the end of the book that's not the case any more but by the end he's lived his prophecy so he doesn't need it as badly, plus he and Annabeth are solid again - Percy saying Annabeth has been hard to be around lately... Ouch my heart. Luke really is the last thing that keeps them from being together and Percy is so jealous and Annabeth so torn and in pain, i feel so bad for them both

- Beckendorf 🥺🥺 - the telkhine with the Lil Demon lunchbox!! I forgot about him. Percy: 'i left him alive, partly because his lunchbox was cool' is one of my absolute favourite lines tbh - Paul taking Percy crabbing and being imperative in helping Percy kill the giant crab 💖 Paul Blofis is important and deserves the world, okay? - aw Percy, you can't save every demigod bb

- 'i had to fight him eventually. Why not now?... What difference would a week make?' Oh Percy you have no idea - real talk tho, the fact Kronos possessed Luke's body would also mess me tf up. Percy keeps forgetting it's not Luke anymore and yeah, that would be so so hard and confusing af, like what another smart little mind game for Kronos to pull on top of everything else - the fact Percy fights Kronos before getting the Achilles Curse and actually doesn't die within seconds is... Astounding. He kicks him in the chest! And yeah Kronos is weaker and still adjusting to Luke's body, but Percy is having trouble fighting Luke cause they used to be friends - Percy breaks Kronos' time magic!! Like?! Boy is POWERFUL.

- OUCH - honestly Luke, Thalia and Annabeth's family breaking the way it did... Don't talk to me. Poor Annabeth, Luke betrayed them, Thalia joined the Hunters because of Luke's betrayal so she's pretty much AWOL all the time and then Luke dies. Like Rick wtf, my heart can't take it? -Percy and Tyson having each others backs when talking to Poseidon in the underwater palace is the brother-brother relationship we love to see - Percy trying to stick a sand dollar in the vending machines at school 🤦🏻‍♀🤦🏻‍♀ - the whole underwater interaction at Poseidon's palace? Perfection. Awkward family drama and all - Connor falling out of the tree when he sees Percy because he's so excited 😂😂

- k, ik Clarisse isn't perfect but tbh if i was a child of Ares whose father was disrespected and hated by my fellow campers (ares deserves it but still) and that disrespect trickled down to how the other campers treated ME (which if Percy is reliable here, it obviously does) then i would also be irritated at being used for muscle and nothing else? And just expected to fight with the people who act as if they'd rather not have Ares kids around the rest of the time. Like Clarisse isn't totally wrong - Percy reading the prophecy, seeing he's meant to die and just being like 'i do not see it' and refusing to outright think about it makes me so sad for him - (but it taints every action after and he's super reckless afterwards bc of it- including finally breaking and accepting the Achilles Curse) - (also him taking this as the last straw and finally beginning to show Annabeth how he really feels, cause fuck it, he's dying anyway) - Give me more info about Rachel's backstory and family Rick!! -  how did i forget Percy willingly eats chocolates that taste like cardboard because 'i didnt have anything against cardboard' like sir? Ik Silena didn't want them but still? - 'she'd always been cute, but she was starting to be seriously beautiful' STOP, MY HEART CAN'T TAKE IT - Percy staring at Annabeth and forgetting what they're talking about cause hes so distracted 👌🏻

For some strange reason.... - i forgot how Percy totally bombs this convo bw them and now want to cry 😭 Annabeth is trying to talk about what's important and Percy, you sweet oblivious man, you're shooting her down without even realizing - love that they're both on the same wavelength tho. Percy two lines before, hmm it's cool to date ppl from other cabins, wonder why im thinking that around Annabeth, my best friend in the world, and then Annabeth a beat later, hmm, let me bring up Silena and Beckendorf and how it's important to be with the people you love when you have the chance, no way Percy will miss this huge hint right? - they're the best - k i honestly forgot Percy full on physically intimidates Leneus like that - luke telling his mom if he ran away the monsters wouldnt get her..i can just imagine luke crying when he says good bye before running away because he thinks it's his fault his mom is like that and he cant take care of and protect her anymore because it's too hard - uh oh now i have angsty pre-lightning thief luke fic inspo... Him, Thalia and Annabeth on the run... The ANGST -  Rick holds absolutely nothing back in this book and i am in pain - HESTIA!! 💖💖🥰 - actual loml - i love that Rick titled this book after her and that he wrote such a great series about the importance of family (biological, found or otherwise) and home, and that he said actually Hestia is the most important bc shes the most humble and keeps the peace and knows when to fight and when to yield and you protect what you love, which is your home - i just... Adore Hestia - Grover! Missed you babes - Hades is so so horrible to Nico, always comparing him to Bianca :/ - but i do love Hades, Persephone and Demeter together they make me laugh - oh god the River Styx - Achilles 🥺 - Annabeth being Percy's lifeline is, and continues to be, A Lot™ - 'my name was Percy Jackson. I reached up and took Annabeth's hand.' LOL Why am i crying? - Like the fact there is no Percy without Annabeth, and that remembering her literally reminded him of who he is in his very soul... It's fine im fine - i won't even get into the parallels of her being his lifeline now and then later when Hera takes his memories but leaves the memory of Annabeth for Percy to fight to get back to (anyone who wants to yell about it with me... Feel free to message) - badass Percy is my fav Percy tbh - him defeating Hades?? Like? Hades is arguably the most powerful god, okay - i feel bad for Nico but if i was Percy I'd do the exact same, Nico, sorry man but this is a high stakes time crunch deal and Nico is literally the only hope of persuading Hades and distracted by his own internal stuff - flashbacks to Luke, Thalia and Annabeth hurt, ow - George and Martha are the best - damn i forgot Hermes full on nearly kills Percy here, yikes - Luke stop cockblocking Percabeth challenge

- i love!! Percy's love for New York!! So much!! - Percy leaving to live in New Rome in HoO is a lie and this is all the proof i need for why - the fact the entire last half of the book is the battle and aftermath... Such great buildup and pacing. All the tricks and twists and battles in this War of Manhattan? I would not take out a thing, Rick, you legend - of course then the final battle in hoo with the gods is what? Two pages? Ugh, don’t talk to me about my hatred for BoO and HoO - 'no detours you two' is still the cutest thing!!! - THE HUNTERS!! Thalia i missed you - good job Percy, you finally spent your sand dollar - Minotaur!! - 'dont i get a kiss for luck? Its kind of a tradition right?' Percy finds out he's gonna die and is out of fucks to give and honestly I support him - also Michael just standing beside these two while they're flirting like umm 👀 👀 while a monster army marches towards them, nbd - Annabeth taking Ethan's knife meant for Percy!!! Cause she just knows his weak spot without him even telling her! They literally invented love - Feral Percy is so scary omg, i love how well Rick incorporates the Achilles Curse in this novel, with the whole heightened weaknesses and stuff ans the parallels to Achilles arrogance being what killed him and Percy's loyalty, fierceness and protective instinct being his own heightened weakness - the fact that Percy is the one who inadvertantly kills Michael Yew tho, I'll never recover from that - the fact Hades offers Maria di Angelo a golden palace by the Styx like how Poseidon offers Sally a palace under the sea tho. Let's talk about that parallel - the entire talk with Prometheus is so so good - not me picturing young Luke hiding in the closet to get away from his mom when she has an 'episode' -i love callbacks in stories and all of the callbacks to the rest of the series in this book make me very happy (medusa, minotaur, the underworld, Rainbow!! My baby!!, Daedalus and more) - Percy summoning a wholeass hurricane against Hyperion - the Party Ponies! They're so chaotic, i love it - Dionysus! 😁 I can't help it, i love him - Percy absolutely losing it when he sees Sally and Paul asleep in the car 🥺 - Rachel telling Percy he's not the hero screws with him so much :( poor bb - although i really really love how Rick wrote this, it's so refreshing to not have one chosen one save the world, but a combination of people - the drakon, Silena and Clarisse make me cry - the Patrochilles references, im not okay - Annabeth giving up on Luke after hearing what he did to Silena and Percy telling her that doesn't make him happy 😭 that whole interaction makes my heart ache - Percy giving Hestia Pandora's pithos 🥺 - and Hades, Nico and the others coming for a final attack is so badass, i love it - listen im glad the og trio were the ones to confront Luke on Olympus but the fact Thalia got so close and then pinned by a statue of HERA makes me so sad. Ik her and Luke were finished and she coped by cutting him off completely and giving up all hope but i would pay money to know what they would have said to each other to say goodbye - Ethan 🥺 - Poseidon joining the fight against Typhon is so cool, such a great scene - 'PEANUT BUTTER!' - Annabeth you brilliant badass you - RIP Luke, you werent great but you werent the worst either - the gods just rolling up seconds too late, wondering wtf happened in Olympus and who the dead body is - the chapter where the Olympians meet and give out rewards is one of my absolute favourites (again i am incensed we didn't get anything like this in HoO) - will Percy turning down immortality ever not make me scream in glee? No? Alright then - Annabeth being relieved like Percy was relieved at the end of Titan's Curse tho - oh Hermes :/ - its so hard reading all this and knowing what comes in HoO... Like it's such a cathartic, earned and mostly happy and peaceful ending and then HoO comes along and undermines it all - aww Rick let Paul see Olympus somehow pls, he deserves it, he killed a dracanae - (i would also love to see it) - Percy being more upset Rachel took his pegasus than her going to Camp and possibly dying, lol, priorities dude - i honestly think that Rick had other ideas for the second Great Prophecy and how things would go down in BoO, cause the prophecy like... Barely applies to BoO, Doors of Death are in book four, and explabations of it is all so unclear when Rick is usually pretty good with that stuff - PERCABETH - lol Percy complaining about privacy when he and Annabeth are caught kissing literally in the middle of the very open and public dining pavilion, okay - BEST UNDERWATER KISS OF ALL TIME - that's it and im a glass case of emotion - very happy to say that this series remains my favourite of all time 💖

Thalia:

First impression - I honestly didn’t really care for her, I mean she was introduced as a tree so I found her a bit difficult to get emotionally attached to Impression now - She’s an interesting and complex character less so because she is her, but more because of how she affects the journeys of those around her. For example imagine the angst of Luke and Annabeth living at camp all those years knowing most of their safety was a result of their best friend basically dying... Or imagine Jason growing up all alone not knowing what became of his sister who likely raised him... I feel for her as well because she’s often forced into motherly roles and I think Annabeth definitley reminded her of Jason and now I’m sad... Favorite moment - Idk probably “yeah he’s the sun god” “not what I meant” Idea for a story - Either her growing up raising Jason as a memoir for childhood neglect or maybe the time she spent going towards camp with Luke and Annabeth Unpopular opinion - I would agree that she probably is an “ew Barbie” type of feminist but other than that I think she is cool and underappreciated and under analyzed.  Favorite relationship - Relationship... Ship? Probably her and Luke, I could see it happening, a weird sort of codependency forming while on the run // If not ship and just general interactions with any character than Annabeth because I can only imagine how much she was always reminding her of Jason and that hurts Favorite headcanon - She’s scared of heights because of her mom or something she used to do to her

Paul:

First impression - “Oh no teacher self-insert” Impression now - I think he’s actually a really good father figure ngl... Like he’s soft spoken but could probably be a little stern without coming off angry, he’s a good stepdad Favorite moment - Either when he asked Percy is he could marry his mom or when him and Lester/Apollo were talking in their apartment during ToA Idea for a story -  I just really want an AU where Sally adopts Nico and Jason as kids and raises them with Percy and her and Paul get married... Just sort of casual fluff family dynamics, they’ve all been through enough they should have normal highschool and stuff Unpopular opinion - He’s obviously a Rick self insert, and I just think that’s weird to think about idk, no deeply held feelings about him which are negative. I feel like he could be a bit flighty sometimes characteristically and that would bother me a little bit personally. Favorite relationship - Him and Sally, but if not a ship then him and Percy  Favorite headcanon - I was recently introduced to the idea that Estelle is Paul and Posiedon’s daughter and I have so many feelings on that

A/N: this fic isn’t ~happy~ but the holidays aren’t always. I’ve been to a couple tense Jewish dinners (different scenario than this, but still) where it was uncomfy. And I recognize that realistically, Sally wouldn’t fight with another parent, but when her son is involved I imagine she could be set off. Three more days and three more fics :) hope you enjoy this one!

The Jackson's knew the L/N family well enough, but the Hanukkah dinner at their home felt different this year. Percy and Y/N had only recently started dating, and their relationship had added a certain amount of tension with Y/N's parents.

Percy's track record of getting in trouble and being on local news left Y/N's parents uncertain about their relationship. Not once had he been outwardly a threat, but that didn’t stop them from being cautious around the eighteen-year-old. They were especially protective of their children when he was around, and quite frankly weren't happy with their eldest's decision.

They walked out of the elevator that led up to the Penthouse, and followed the sound of latkes being fried, breathing in the delicious aroma. "Sally, how good to see you!"

Mrs L/N embraced her friend, as well as Paul, before giving Percy a tight-lipped smile. "It's good to see you, Mrs L/N."

"You too." she ushered them to the foyer, where Y/N was in a deep discussion with their little sister, Abby, about her most recent hyper fixation. Percy gravitated towards his partner, and gently placed a hand on their shoulder.

"Happy Hanukkah," they smiled up at him and stood up.

"Happy Hanukkah," he smiled back and kissed them. "You look beautiful, as always."

"Thank you," they said, blushing. He took a seat next to them, and after greeting Abby and father, listened to the twelve-year-old continue rambling on. Watching how the siblings interacted caused Percy to feel even more excited about Estelle growing up. The nine-month-old baby could only say a few words, but she was already showing a very strong personality. Seemed as stubborn as her older brother, and he was looking forward to watching her grow up.

As expected the air was tense. Y/N's parents hardly paid attention to Percy, and mostly talked to Sally and Paul. After all, they had a problem with the kid and not the parents. Y/N wanted to protest, but Percy wouldn’t let them. He kept telling them that he can deal with it for an evening, and it was no big deal. Sally, however, noticed the lack of attention on her son and tried to bring up something positive going on in his life any time she saw an opening. "Percy joined the swim team at his school. He's become captain, actually."

"Oh, how nice," Y/N's father replied, glancing over at Percy with slight distaste. He moved on to talk about Y/N's extracurricular, not-so-subtly attempting to one-up their boyfriend. This turned into a 'who has the better kid' competition, making Y/N increasingly more annoyed.

After they had lit the candles and sat down for dinner, the conversation died down. Everyone ate in a tense silence, the latkes and brisket not tasting as good as usual. The bitterness in the air tainted the food, leaving an unpleasant aftertaste in their mouths. "Y/N, why don't you tell Sally and Paul about your most recent art project?"

"Alright, that's it," they sighed, and put their utensils down. "First of all, they already know about it and I told them before I told you. Second of all, I don't understand why you can't see that Percy is a genuinely good guy. Whatever the two of you are so worked up about happened in the past. It's one thing to make this another uncomfortable and passive-aggressive family dinner, but it’s another to try and downplay his accomplishments by bringing up my own. I'm sick of staying silent because Percy and his parents don't deserve it. Come get me when you've apologized. I can't be around you right now."

Y/N got up from the table and disappeared into their room. They flopped onto their bed, and closed their eyes, needing a moment to themself. Not long after, someone opened the door, and joined Y/N on the bed, causing the mortal to open their eyes. "If looks could kill, I would be dead."

"I'm sorry," they grumbled.

"Hey, don't apologize," Percy spoke gently, pushing a stray hair out of their face.

"Did they?"

"Only for your behaviour," he rolled his eyes. "Which started an argument between our parents because my Mom agreed with you."

"Glad to know that I'm still in Sally's good graces," they gave a faint smile. "Still, I wish I didn’t address the elephant in the room until after the dinner was over."

"Everything happens for a reason, right?" Percy smirked, using a phrase Y/N said frequently.

"Yeah, yeah," they sat up and gave their boyfriend a playful glare. Percy lifted his arm, inviting Y/N to cuddle with him, and they sat there in silence while they listened to the voices increasing in volume. As the argument turned into full-on shouting, Abby entered the bedroom.

"Can I join you?" she asked, her voice small. "I don’t want to be out there anymore."

"I have a better idea," Y/N got up and grabbed their wallet. "Why don’t we go out, and get some sufganiyot at the bakery down the street?"

"Yes!" her eyes lit up.

"Mom's terrifying when she's mad, so absolutely." Percy agreed. "If they don’t notice us leaving, I'll text my parents to let them know where we are and that your sister is with us."

The three of them managed to leave the penthouse without the parents noticing, the four of them too busy arguing to even realize Abby left the table. Hopefully, things would die down by the time they got back, but if not it didn't matter. Y/N didn't need their parent's approval to date Percy. They loved him no matter what.

Percy thought about how to approach the situation before talking through his mic, even though he knew that thinking had a tendency to hinder his social interactions quite a bit.

“You hear me man?” He asked, making sure to use a relatively loud tone, just to make sure the other knew Percy was talking to him.

There were a few moments of silence before Ghost guy answered him with an “I do”.

Percy reacted quickly, registering the other's relatively quiet voice form his headphones.

“Uh, sorry, I never introduced myself” He tried, before adding “I’m Percy.”

Again, silence for a few seconds.

“’T’s fine. I’m Nico.”
