hiii aaah I‘m excited to talk about my tav(s) haha so where do I start?
Tumblr media
please bear with me I have only read forgotten realms wiki entries and never knew anything of the universe before but I wanted to make a detailed backstory for her😭
she‘s a cleric of oghma with acolyte backround. in my head her backstory is that her parents and her left elturel when she was younger before the fall into hell as certain things started to be weird in the city before it‘s collapse into hell. her father was a soldier, who laid down his work after a grave injury, to spend more time with his family and start a business of their own. they decided to move to baldurs gate to potentially establish trading of elturian products there.
on the way to the city they fell victims to an ambush of goblins that killed her parents as she was hiding. she didn‘t move on for days but buried her parents alone and finally decided to go the rest of the route alone. she managed to get into the city by herself but ended up spending an 1-2 years on the streets until a bard that she had built trust with took her to a temple of oghma. there she was taken in and spent years studying and learning. when she was abducted by mindflayers she was on her way to where elturel used to be to find potential refugees and offer her medical knowledge and anything she can do as help. in my playthrough her and karlach are in love (aaah i love them so much hahaha) and it‘s honestly so amazing cause sometimes the game itself just does things that just fit so perfectly with the story i have thought for her. like of course she is absolutely invested in helping the tieflings and the kids like arabella and mol just remind her of herself. i will keep it at that to keep it somewhat short and not spoil any of the games plot haha.
thennn my second tav (dark urge)
Tumblr media
this is xerxa. she‘s a seldarine drow cleric of eilistraee that is so deeply unhinged and struggling at this point i truly feel sorry for her even though she committed atrocities. since idk much about the dark urge yet i cant really say things about that but her whole plot idea is that she desperately tries and has tried to be good to find hope and live up to who she wants to be but just cannot due to her finding pleasure in the brutal and macabre. she gave into it when minthara offered her so directly to slaughter the whole grove that she could not refuse this urge. I think she‘s in a process of changing right now?😭 she became a lot more neutral but will evil in the underdark now. she arrived at moonrise and saw minthara being sentenced to death and something im her changed because she geniuenly likes minthara. i think all the reveals and her being able to relate to minthara a lot leaves room for character development. I‘ll look forward to where her story leads me😭 but the things I did in her playthrough truly are HORRIBLE. I think her story will be a story of finding and reclaiming herself and her own power for herself.
you and me 🤝 knowing nothing about forgotten realms lore when coming up with backstories for our characters
I LOVE THEM!!!!! i love your tiefling's whole colour scheme. it's giving pastel karlach. also what is the point of bg3 if not constantly reading too far into everything tav does and pretending everything is deeper than it actually is (because it is).
one of these days i will get around to raiding the grove for minthara. just once. Do It For Her.
tell me about your bg3 ocs!!!

If it’s not too much can you give us a quick rundown on the special story! Not ready for Silvios backstory especially with his mom
Tumblr media
Definitely, Nonnies...sorry to just drop that and run for a bit. Buckle up because this is going to be SUPREMELY long and rambling, but I hope I get it all across!
Alright so....there are a few things you'd need to know going into this. The main thing is an event that's referenced in Rio's route which I've talked about before, and it shows up in Silvio's as well - clearly this is a defining moment for both of the boys. It's when Silvio and Emidio's mother, the queen, poison's Rio's mother at the Most Tense Tea Party ever. Rio witnesses his mother falling violently ill, spitting up blood though she's not dying, trying to help her but the doctor is conveniently gone and the queen is simply sipping her tea like 'goodness me, I certainly have no idea how this happened or how to help' which is a load of horseshit.
Emidio's watching all this, same evil smirk as his mother, but Silvio's more horrified - though he holds his peace as Rio's crying and begging for help. That's the point where Rio accuses them all of being not even human...a moment we get Silvio replaying more than once in his memories through the route.
Another is that through the route it's implied the king of Benitoite doesn't like Silvio, and there's some secret Silvio's mother tells him that seems to relate to this.
SO, that said...the end story POV opens on Silvio musing about his cravings/thirst never being sated in his life, no matter how much he drinks or the one-night stands he indulges in. Never satisfied, and that's the state he was wondering how to achieve when he met Emma.
We jump back to where Rio had disappeared from Benitoite three years prior, and the king basically has Silvio and Emidio hauled before him and he's questioning them on Rio's whereabouts - Silvio knows Emidio's got something to do with it and he's pissed to realize that Emidio made a move while he was distracted with prepping for a voyage.
The king's not buying their denials whatsoever, and Emidio throws Silvio under the bus, implying that he'd be the happiest if Valerio up and vanished. The king, who Silvio knows pretty much hates him and Emidio, is happy to buy this - and he has a defiant Silvio hauled off for 'questioning'. Said questioning really turns out to be torture, as Silvio expected it would - not bad enough to kill him, because technically he IS a prince and all, but he wakes up in pretty bad shape, beat all to shit as a frantic Carlo busts in the dungeon. Knowing full well it's a sign of how frustrated the king is over losing Rio...this wasn't ever really about getting information.
Carlo's practically beside himself over Silvio's state, he's brought a first aid kit at least. (The whole bit about how every part of him hurts and all he can taste is blood T_T ) Silvio pulls his shirt and stuff off and Carlo's freaking out even more now, seeing the damage, and comments on it, and Silvio accidentally lets slip that this time wasn't even that bad, basically - this happened to him as a kid all the time too.
Carlo's horrified and Silvio's like, ah shiz ran the mouth, but he's thinking back on how any time he bullied Valerio as a kid the king would beat the shit outta him as punishment, and feeling sick all over again at the memories. Carlo starts ranting, wondering why the king hates Silvio so much and why he'd do something like this without even a shred of proof Silvio was involved in Rio's disappearance, but Silvio's just pfft that's how it always is right?
Carlo goes on to protest that Silvio's a good man, and he's frustrated the king doesn't seem to get that. Silvio scoffs at the idea, and at Carlo's insistence he is - he's remembering how 10 years prior he'd picked Carlo up when he'd found him being bullied in a shipyard by a fellow worker and saved him basically, finding out how smart the guy was when he spoke with him and deciding to put him to use on his voyage. Silvio insists to himself he's not some nice guy he just did it because it benefited him...but Carlo's basically become his right hand man out of some misguided sense of gratitude.
Carlo doesn't know what he was like as a kid tho, Silvio thinks. And aloud he does tell him how he used to bully Valerio and steal anything important to him a long time ago so the king still is suspicious of him, tho Silvio thinks Emidio was worse than him even.
Cue some Silvio flashbacks when Carlo asked why - thinking about how everyone genuinely loved Rio and the king spoiled him and doted on him. Blessed golden child basically, unlike him who wasn't liked by anyone. As long as he could remember, his mother had forced him to take lessons all day, every day, and he never made any friends or even had time to play. The king hated his ambitious mom, who was willing to do almost anything to get her son onto the throne, fawning over his mistress while always looking at Silvio's mother as if she were something filthy.
It never made him feel good about himself, having been born of a woman like that...and he hated his littlest brother, whom everyone adored. That was the stupid thing that started him bullying Rio.
Carlo's baffled by this tho because from what he's seen, Silvio and Rio seems to get along pretty well, so that must all be in the past? Silvio scoffs that they're not friends it's just that Rio's gotten to the point where he's got nothing he cares about to take away, so there's no point in bullying him anymore it's boring. He'd do it again tho if Rio did finally get something important.
But he's thinking that's half true, half a lie. The whole 'bullying Rio because he hated him thing' changed one day, when he followed after his mother when she slipped away one night as she often did, and little Silvio overheard her meeting with a shady dude who sold her poison from Jade. It won't kill someone, just make them horribly sick (it's literally used for torture in some countries he says), and the queen is delighted.
Shady man questions the queen about not wanting Rio's mom dead, and the queen says she wants her to suffer - if she suffers, so does the king. Only one day far in the future when she's done playing with her toy will she finally break it, but the queen proclaims she'll kill the woman's son first just for extra misery inflicted on the king and his mistress.
The shady man says he thought this was all revenge for the king cheating on the queen, but the queen says no, she doesn't give a shit about that. She hates the king. She had a lover before him, but being engaged to the king ruined all that.
Little Silvio runs away after that, horrified and scared out of his mind at having finally seen the 'real' face of his mother. And then after this came that disastrous tea party where the queen had used the poison on Rio's mom, Silvio KNOWING it was going to happen but totally powerless to stop it or do anything about it, because he's just a freaking kid. And little Rio had cursed them all for being inhuman.
Later, unable to hold his peace and wracked with guilt, Silvio says to his mother that she went too far today, and confesses that he SAW her buy the poison from that man when his mother tries to play dumb. But she cuts him off with a smile he now (as an adult) recognizes was half-mad, and tells him not to worry himself over any of this, just concentrate on becoming king. She seems to take perverse delight in imagining the king's face if Silvio becomes the next king, and then says she'll let him in on a good secret. His strict mom hugging him sweetly for once, terrified to hear what she says but she goes on anyways and tells him...that he's probably not even the king's son.
She swears him to secrecy, this is just between her and him, and he's more than a little freaking out. It's not like they can prove or disprove that he's the king's son, and luckily he's got the blue eyes of Benitoite royalty so nobody can say he's a bastard, but the queen clearly seems to believe he is. And it's easy for him to suddenly realize that the king seems to believe it too, judging from how he looks at Silvio.
His mother is a beast, he thinks...and born of a beast's womb, he's also one. His status as a royal and the comfortable life that offers, even without any love, is now in jeopardy...and his little boy's heart is terrified.
He only hates Rio more now, hating even the sight of him for the way the king acknowledges him as his legitimate child and how his future is secure...but he doesn't wanna be a beast like his mother. This is where he started trying to get Rio to fight back when bullied, and when he said he couldn't protect him from the awful people around him - by this he meant his own mother and her evil plans towards an innocent child.
SO BACK IN THE DUNGEON Silvio's moving to make preparations to try and track down Rio, and in the meantime erase his traces to try and keep Emidio off his trail. He doesn't give a shit if the king thinks he's guilty of doing something, he's just worried what'll happen if Emidio finds him before he does since he knows Emidio's inherited their mother's desire to see Rio dead. Worrying himself over something happening to the guy and vowing to do what he can to help him.
He reminds Carlo that money can do anything, that's why he busts his ass to get it...and he thinks back again on how he'd started his first little business as a kid because he was trying to think of a way to protect Valerio and his mother from the queen's madness he saw that night. Also he was desperate to think of a way to survive in court himself if he wasn't truly of royal blood. Luckily he was good at it, invested his returns and kept making money, all so it could be a weapon. A means of power, just like his mother used to buy that poison - he thought he could fix anything with money.
Eventually he was able to use it become the youngest millionaire ever, bought off people in court anonymously and placed all his own guards in secret around Valerio and Valerio's mom, doing his best to keep them safe that way.
Then he thinks on how everyone started viewing him differently when he was rich, how the people who'd ignored him before in favor of his other brothers started fawning - especially the women were the most blatant gold-diggers. And he learned that the unlovable become lovable when they've got money. Even the king came to at least acknowledge his skill (if not legitimacy) and put him in charge of various things.
He'd thought, that people who say 'money isn't everything' are pathetic who say that just to make themselves feel better. But also with all of this, he finally stopped hating Rio much at all. Thought he finally had everything together and going his way...but he's never satisfied. If anything, his 'thirst' has gotten worse.
And then when he found Rio again, saw him smiling and laughing so happily with something precious he'd found while his memory was lost, he'd been relieved...but also all that old hatred had come roaring back to life.
OK PHEW SO LONG, SORRY...as a reward have a cute image, because from all this backstory it goes on to current times and it's Silvio very tenderly washing Emma's hair and combing it and conditioning it and generally just pampering and fussing over her in the bath the way he apparently does every night, their new ritual. And even Emma's like, what happened to 'YOU MUST SERVE ME' becauae it sure seems a lot of just you waiting on me 🥺 bathing and even dressing me
And then he's gotta smirk it's just fair turnabout given how absolutely wrecked I leave you post fuccin ;) you can't very well do it yourself when you're barely functioning
And yeah MY HEART AT THEIR CUTE NIGHTTIME RITUAL WHO'S WEARING THE REAL COLLAR HERE SIR? you are a simp and it's a family trait admit it.

the first two are clementine pre n post wither storm n the third is an oc ive just been calling [DATA EXPUNGED]
theyre both pokemon ocs, w clem specifically being a mash up of being a minecraft storymode oc and a pokemon oc
[DATA EXPUNGED] is the Champion of Arceus n is v ? theatrical ? fancy ? either way he speaks like its the early 1800s, i also dont have much of a backstory for him since i created him like, 4 days ago n im VERY slow at giving ocs backstories
clementine on the other hand ive been making a backstory for several months so i have a lot to say but i wont so to sum up her backstory (in a way thats prolly shit ngl) its:
clem n her (still unnamed n undeveloped) friends go to a con, they win, they go to a post con festival, clem meets some guy, the same guy clem meets makes the wither storm, she defeats it but is v traumatized from it, she becomes a mayor of a town at some point but she ends up running away from kalos to kanto
[Is not familiar with the Pokémon storylines you're talking about and thus has nothing to comment on it, so apologies if that is relevant to the review]
I'm assuming [DATA EXPUNGED] isn't, at least in the current state of things, related to Clementines story at all?
I'll tackle [DATA EXPUNGED] first!
Very solid color scheme, I think the dark skin tone fits perfectly with black white and gold, especially since the shirt (top?) is white. The accessories and face patterns really give off a fancy, perhaps priest like aesthetic and it makes the whole collective come across as very distinguished. Supernatural too, considering the one white eye and again, face patterns, although it leaves some ambiguity since this could also just be a very fancy cultural getup. I have to say though, I'd probably have made the roses some other color: though the black is strong and very cool, you can't really see them from the black hair and thus it sorta muddies the effect and makes it look more like the character is wearing some headgarment rather than a rose crown. Unfortunately, since this is a picrew, i can't say much for more core aspects of the design like the shape of the face, eyes and nose, which I consider very essential aspects of designing human characters. This is no fault of yours, as I said, picrews can be limiting in this aspect.
Judging by the art style though I'm going to guess this character is meant to have a strong angular face and jawline with a straight, square nose. Strong but elegant brows, I assume? The beauty mark on his jaw though is a very nice touch! Gives some uniqueness and personality to the otherwise very conformed, untouched image the character has.
The character strikes me as a very learned, wise personality who knows things beyond this world, and I can definitely see that he'd speak more theatrically, like a preacher or professor (the book and quill help this).
If the character ever ends up drawn by free hand, here's things I'd suggest adjusting or adding to [DATA EXPUNGED]: Facial traits. I think a strong nose with a bit of a greek shape would do wonders for a theatrical, regal looking character like him, and if the angular jawline is intended, keep that!! Depending on age (or how dramatic you want him to look), I'd also suggest more visible cheekbones perhaps? Strong brows and serious eyes would contribute to this vibe but depending on of course where you take this character, you can change things to suit that! For what I'm suggesting here, the character feels like a sort of apocalypse preacher person who is more interested in studies and has a tendency to push people away. However you could also easily go a softer route with him as well but I think, if you do, I'd still keep the angular dramatic facial features. The rest of my suggestions would just be to add maybe the smallest bit more decoration or jewelry, maybe something with a more personal touch? Earrings, rings, ect. I feel like he'd be the type to carry around some very sentimental piece of jewelry or other item, something he holds in great value. He doesn't seem like he'd pretty up just for appearance sake. Also I feel like sideburns or some stray hair whispies would add a fun little touch that could divert from the more serious groomed image the character gives, just something to create uniqueness in general. Doesn't have to be those exact things I suggested.
Then Clementine!
Design is simple but functional. Personally I think she could also use a bit more to make her less generic ykno? To be fair this could also be a fault of whatever you used to make these images (not sure if that's a picrew or some other dollmaker thing). I like the amount of change you have between the before and after states, especially liking the touch of her expression changing, even though its not related to design here lol. The first one with the simple, a bit girlish and old timey dress works well with the half up hairstyle and simplistic outfit to establish a younger character who's out to see the world. The two things diverting from this image are the sword and maybe(?) her being barefoot. The sword evokes imagery of either someone who seems more innocent or naive but turns out to also have sharp, honed skills. OR a strapping enthusiast who is looking for adventure and her place in the world, with only the clothes on her back and this sword she found (lighthearted tone). The barefoot aspect also gives a bit of a rural vibe, of being more in touch with nature. Which is something the After™ version contrasts, with a more modern feeling outfit, and the loss of the sword.
I really like her having a longer hairstyle in the latter one, with the braids/dreads. Hairstyle changes are a great way to communicate something in a character so it fits! It feels more subdued mature while still keeping a bit of that openness and freedom, with the dreads hanging freely, and hey, still being in a half up style! Good one!
I'd suggest maybe adding more signs of experience or wear on the latter version, just to communicate her having gone through something major, even traumatic. Scars or something like more visible eyebags, or something to show a more scuffed up appearance ykno? You could also make her more stocky and built, or maybe a bit chubbier in the latter, bc to me it feels like a slightly older version of the character and so, getting more built feels appropriate for that.
Overall just add more simple, small touches to communicate personality more. I think the latter one is good at that but the first one feels more generic. If it's meant to be simple though, I understand! But still. Doesn't have to be anything major, could just be things like small accessories or things she's personalized for herself. Maybe In the first version she could have a little patched up clothing to show her outdoorsy lifestyle? If not, you could add something else, just a suggestion.
From a purely visual standpoint, [DATA EXPUNGED]'s design is lots more interesting and distinct looking, and I'd only really adjust the person under the clothing and accessories. For Clementine, I feel that she could use to stand out just a tad more. However I hugely appreciate them both being poc and also having natural hairstyles (both having dreads at some point) to it! Definitely helps make them more diverse, which is always a design plus!

Everyday I grow angrier knowing near every prominent member of The Pact had brilliant backstories that could’ve easily made us sympathize with them like we did with John. For example, what are the implications regarding the fact Harley lost her father then immediately joined a group headed by a man who must’ve been around his age? There’s also a strong possibility of her being a hypochondriac after discovering her father’s illness and for that matter could any of her actions be symptoms of this illness? What was the accident at GothCorp in this universe that made Freeze the way he is and for that matter what was his relationship with Nora like in his own words? Bane in his wiki is described as ‘The king of Peña Duro Penitentiary.’ How did he reach this level of notoriety? And did this prerequisite of being the strongest play a hand in his overuse of Venom? Even Riddler, again it’s said he was trapped inside SANCTUS for years all while his mind deteriorated. How did he and Selina meet? She mentions she liked him but we never got a good idea as to why. She was one of the only characters who had a positive relationship with him and we don’t even know why.
Sure I have my own ideas and such as to why these things happened and why characters do the things they do but they’re all speculation on a dozen things that could’ve been used to flesh The Pact out more. Can you imagine how much more tense the bridge scene could be? Or the battle with Bane in the vigilante route if we knew just a little bit more about these characters and their motives. Can you imagine trying to talk Harley down not just so she doesn’t kill innocents but also, maybe just the littlest bit because you also want to help her. Can you imagine trying to tell Bane he can still beat his addiction even without LOTUS? Can you imagine Selina standing up for Riddler even once to offer a trait she liked about him?? Can you imagine helping Freeze when he gets infected not just out of obligation but also because part of you hopes he can save Nora? Or at the very least cure her illness??? Can you imagine??
Especially as Bruce who shares similarities in all these character’s stories. He and Harley may be upset with their fathers for different reasons but that doesn’t change the fact they’re both angry with them. One scene, I wanted one scene where they bonded a little and maybe Bruce even asks why she’s more angry then sad he took his own life to which Harley responds something along the lines of ‘Being angry is easier then being sad.’ Because they both know that, they both intrinsically understand being upset over circumstances out of their control is easier then just accepting it. Hell Bruce may even help Harley realize her dad wasn’t an awful person for what he did, just sick. It isn’t like his dad had the excuse of not being in the right mind. And Bane is extremely strong, why wouldn’t Bruce use his undercover status to his advantage and ask for some less lethal moves to stun enemies (Just so he can draw out their deaths obviously Bane) what is it like for Bane to be in a fair fight? He seems to respect people willing to get their hands dirty so it can be assumed that even tying with him in any type of strength based feat is worthy of his respect. He and Bruce are both similar in their constant need to be stronger though, so it wouldn’t be far fetched to assume Bane may get downright angry if they godforbid have to call a truce. It can also be a great way to explore their different modes of fighting for a cause. Bruce fights for people and Bane fights for himself but also sometimes for groups if they suit his needs, does Bruce ever see himself in Bane? Can he even understand needing something so bad he’d be willing to kill for it? Of course he can. He could probably see himself killing for many things, and that’s scarier then Bane ever could be. He can also relate to Freeze’s desperation to get his wife back even if somewhere deep down he knows she probably would be unhappy with the world she woke up in. He knows if he got his mom, hell even his dad back they’d both be horrified by his night job. He knows he’s toeing Riddler’s line and he knows taking down SANCTUS will upset everyone even if it’s the right thing to do. He knows he’d kill to take down SANCTUS to protect everyone even if they’ll never know he did it for that reason.

List 5 facts about a favorite sim of yours, and send this to 10 simblrs whose sims you adore ♥♥♥
(you know i had to send this right back to you, love reading your musings on your characters 💕)
ahhh thank you for sending me this 😭❤️ and thank you for all the love for my characters! i really do appreciate it (and appreciate you, too, of course!!) 💕
i think i'm going to go a different route and take the opportunity to give some information about grandma aoife! she and grandpa joseph are both fully developed characters with entire backstories (most of which i played out in game heavily inspired by the historical legacy challenge) but sometimes idk how much i should post about them since i don't know how much people care about them 😭
Tumblr media
bringing back this pic don't mind me
i think it comes across in the story but she's extremely caring and sweet and her biggest love language is probably acts of service tbh! she very much grew up in a household where she was constantly responsible for someone or something (either because she was the second oldest child and oldest daughter out of twelve kids or because she was tasked with helping around the house or with the grueling dairy farm work) and she has a lot of difficulty letting that part of herself go. she always feels like she should be doing stuff for people! making them food, taking care of their errands, throwing family parties, etc. trust me, she LOVES to take care of other people! she has no qualms about doing it! but she does not know how to relax
on a related note, she's always been considered by practically everyone to be the perfect daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, etc. and tbh she is probably as close to perfect as you can get, but in reality, i think she has a lot of doubts about her capabilities and does struggle with putting too much pressure on herself. related to her upbringing, clearly she was parentified but she was also raised just to be a tough, strong, unshakable woman and to not let things bother her. but she's very sensitive and emotional and things DO upset her easily. so it's difficult for her to forgive herself when she feels like she's made a mistake and she often blames herself when her loved ones suffer. a good example of this pretty much just comes from the fact that her first and oldest child (mary) grew up to be such a monster. even though that's not aoife's fault, she has blamed herself every single day for decades and she's constantly trying to figure out what she did wrong and how to make up for it. and as you might imagine, she's also eaten up with guilt about how grant and his sisters grew up, and she 100% blames herself for that as well.
light fun fact but she never changed her name when she got married and joseph was completely supportive of that! but for her, it was more of a cultural thing than caring all that much about the name itself or family ties. she just didn't want to give up her beautiful fully irish name and exchange it for an americanized one. she refers to herself often as being a callahan but she will be aoife ní shúilleabháin until the day she dies
she's very musical! she has no idea how to play an instrument but she does know how to sing and she's always been good at it. given her very traditional upbringing, of course her music/singing style of choice is sean-nós (which is absolutely gorgeous music and i 100% recommend giving it a listen 🎵)
a more ✨ fun ✨ fact is that i think she would love watching stupid reality TV shows like 90 day fiance 😭 like many cool iconic grandmothers, she does like her gossip and what is better for gossip than reality TV?! she absolutely would chat up her grandkids asking them if they saw the last episodes and what they thought about x, y, and z scenes and it would be a serious and very lively conversation

hmmm... Au where Mina is related to one of the members of the RFA? owo Would anything change?
@personifiedchaosx / send me an au and i’ll give u five (5) headcanons / accepting !!
general.
this is assuming she’s related to them by being a cousin of some kind. maybe close, maybe not-too-distant, but her parents taught her to love her family so she’ll treat them like siblings.
begs her family member not to tell anyone who she is or what she’s done in the past if they know.
is way more protective of them than the romantic routes. she takes family very seriously.
definitely wants to hide who she is ( this would lead to a bad end fyi ) but comes to realise it’s not good for anyone if she does that.
much less likely to get a bad end since she’s too excited at the thought of having some family to even think about hurting them. even though she preaches family is who you choose, she lost her whole family when her parents died, so this is pretty big for her.
specific headcanons under the cut. spoilers for each route, including v and ray!
j aehee.
jae probably knows all about mina’s past, and because of this mina’s hesitant to talk to her at first since she’s not ready to confront it. but, they’re both isolated from the family, so mina warms up to her quickly when she realises jae either pretends not to know or actually doesn’t know.
she never realised what happened with jae’s aunt and she’s furious when she learns, but there’s nothing she can do about it. all she can do is offer eternal support and take care of her.
and boy, does she take care of her. she’s fiercely protective of her only surviving blood relative, and she actively argues with j umin whenever she notices jae’s stress levels rising.
she gets along really well with z en. she’s good at balancing teasing him and sweet-talking him, and she makes sure to get reserved tickets to his shows for special occasions, because she knows jae will love it.
jae route exclusive - they still open the café together, and it’s only then she reveals to jae who she is. she’s scared as heck to do it, but she trusts jae to be understanding. mina doesn’t hesitate to do it, and it becomes famously known as being run by ‘ two sisters ’ which they laugh about all the time.
z en.
she’s so shocked to see his real name in the chat when it pops up. so that’s where he’s been!  and she immediately looks up his acting history, pondering whether or not she’ll tell him who she is because she knows he ran away from their family.
the first phone call is awkward because she can’t hide what she knows. it comes out gently, and eases him into the revelation of their relation. finally, she gives him the name cheonmi and that’s when it clicks. she makes him swear not to tell anyone, but it’s clear something’s passed between them.
they’re already so close just by revealing who they are to each other. mina’s hesitant to call him out on his narcissism because she knows what he went through with his family, but when she tells him to dial it down, it’s when he’s at his most extreme.
she loves seeing his photos, whether he’s posing or it’s a slice-of-life picture. it reminds her she’s still got someone left and she once even teared up at seeing him so happy and carefree. that never happened again - she sees way too many pictures to get emotional about it.
z en route exclusive - when she stays at his, they spend their time catching up and exchanging stories. she insists on riding his motorbike ( just a lap around this part of town, i swear i’ll take good care ) and she goes through with him what he’s going to say at the party. it’s then she realises she’s good at regulating and organising him, and she offers to become his manager immediately after his speech. why? because she still has faith in her cousin.
y oosung / r ika.
she doesn’t recognise y oosung at first. the dyed hair thing plus addiction to games really turned her around, until he mentioned r ika. then it was a case of wait, i have cousins with the same names and click, she’s caught on.
she fell out of contact with the family before r ika died, so she didn’t even know any of this had happened. it’s a huge shock to her and, like with her parents’ deaths, she refuses to talk in depth about her.
she almost meets up with y oosung accidentally, since she works at his university coffee shop. on seeing him, she panics that he’ll recognise her and considers hiding, until she realises he’s not even looking in her direction. and that’s when she realises she has to get a grip. the next time she sees him, she waves him over and explains who she is. they get talking, and they’ve swapped gaming usernames by the time they part. she’s glowing, feeling so happy to meet up with him again.
in some routes, mina figures out r ika isn’t dead by piecing together bits of what v says ( this is more for another story tbh ) and dwelling on her own experiences.
y oosung route exclusive - she can’t look at his face while he has his eyepatch on. it’s a constant reminder of what she caused ( yes, she blames herself for it ) and it’s impossible to forget. but when she hears he’s going to become a vet? she’s inspired to go to uni as well.
s even / s aeran.
so yeah, twist for this one - she’s actually a relation of the prime minister. s even finds out fairly quickly about this, but mina’s in the dark about who he is unless he decides to tell her.
she usually finds out in s even or s aeran’s route, either when s even decides to find s aeran or she works it out towards the end of her stay in the m int e ye. she’s kind of?? highkey shocked, needs to sit down for six years kind of thing.
she wants to call her uncle and scream in his face. so badly. five years ago, she would have, but she knows she can’t. they’ve got to be smart about this, and she’s good at appearing to keep a cool head. but she makes sure whichever twin she’s with knows how pissed she is.
honestly this is like losing her parents all over again. she chose to isolate herself from his family, but knowing he treated his own children like this? if she hadn’t cut herself off him from before, she would have now.
s aeran route exclusive - she invites more people to watch z en’s announcement. she emails old friends, colleagues, neighbours, with only the caption this is about my uncle, which really gets some attention. more people tune in for the original broadcast and the good end is easier to achieve.
j umin.
filthy rich, born with a silver spoon in her mouth - but same story. parents died, cut herself off from the rest of her family, hiding in seoul. makes it a bit more surprising when she comes from a rich background.
so ofc she knows who jumin is the instant she sees his name on the chat and honestly almost turns it off there and then. why did she stay? maybe he could get her out of this mess.
she tells him everything on day 3. privately, of course, to avoid seeming like she’s after attention. but, when her name and her story checks out, she’s eager to meet him again and asks to meet. j aehee arranges it, so mina lets her in on the secret. it’s not fair for j aehee to not know.
it’s very awkward. they don’t have a lot in common since mina renounced her old life, so there’s not a lot for them to talk about, but it’s a start. mina expresses her desire to reconnect with their family, but makes it clear she wants it to go slowly. he seems to understand, and things warm up in due time. she also carries on with the encouragement and trying to help him understand herself, but of course it’s all platonic in this.
j umin route exclusive - she’s constantly encouraging him to deny the engagement to sarah. she becomes defensive about this topic very quickly, believing even j umin should have a choice in who he marries. at his announcement at the party, she’s content to let him reveal who she is as well, since it shows two cousins coming together to fight the wrong in their family. she’s really proud of her cat-obsessed cousin,
v.
okay so she’s scared shitless being in the m int e ye, so when she first meets v via the messenger, she thinks she’s just reaching. i mean, he couldn’t possibly be her cousin! though v is clearly a pseudonym, and yeah, he sort of looks like him too, she’s certain it’s her mind playing tricks on her. boy.
her parents used to take care of v’s mother after she lost her hearing. i mean, it’s what siblings do for each other, right? so mina probably met v a few times as a kid, but he was more into business than art so it’s easy to see why she didn’t recognise him.
even not in the m int e ye, she’s kind of very suspicious about this guy, just because she’s got more time to wonder if it really is her cousin. she tries to ask about it indirectly ( because she’s pretty sure if it is him, he hasn’t recognised her yet ) but she’s just left with answers that don’t fit her perception of j ihyun.
either way, it brings up a lot of memories about her aunt and parents, ones that she could deal with being buried forever. so, on this route she displays more symptoms of depression than any other, because she was closer to his family than to any other.
v route exclusive - on day 4, when the routes diverge, the only reason she goes with v is because she knows him. it’s kind of a ‘ stop —- holy shit, you! ’ moment which they don’t exactly get to deal with for a few days. because, you know. v got shot. but when he feels better, they talk some things out. mina tells him about her previous life, and how she wishes she could have contacted him when her parents died. he’s surprisingly easy to talk to.

The Best Yuri of 2020
2020 was hell in every way, and many of us are looking forward to new possibilities and advances in 2021. However, the year brought us many small moments and gifts worth celebrating. Among these, the explosive growth and change within the Yuri genre are among the most precious and most outstanding achievements. This second century of Yuri opened with a bang, as phenomenal new works, creators, and moments made their mark and helped change the future genre.
Tumblr media
This annual list is a celebration of just a handful of the fantastic titles, people, and events in Yuri. There are likely some even greater ones that did not make the list because there is so much content in both English and Japanese that even I cannot keep up. However, among the troves of treasure, these titles stood out as shining examples of Yuri excellence. Some were released this year, others were recently adapted into English, and still, others are established titles that rose to prominence to dominate the conversation and my mind this year, but every one of them is worthy of being on this list and in your heart.
Here is the Best Yuri of 2020!
15: The Curse of Kudan Remastered
Japanese Yuri visual novel developers show no sign of slowing down as they continue to push to new heights and try new ideas. These are the same amazing people who brought us the delightful educational Yuri game The Expression Amrilato and the hilarious and surprisingly queer OshiRabu: Waifus Over Husbando’s. However, this most recent release, The Curse of Kudan Remastered, is their best work yet. Released near Halloween, this game brings a new edge of dark mystery and the occult to Yuri audiences worldwide.
The Curse of Kudan is available on MangaGamer, JAST USA, Denpasoft, and Sekai Project.
Tumblr media
14: Adachi and Shimamura
English audiences were finally treated this year to Hitoma Iruma’s long-running and wildly successful Yuri light novel series, Adachi and Shimamura. Although the story struggles to gain traction, dedicated readers’ have their patience rewarded with a sweet tale full of gay pining. Alternatively, you can jump into its stellar anime adaptation, with gorgeous visuals and realized characters you will actually be willing to put up with the annoying Yashiro just to see where the title characters go. The series shows no sign of slowing down either, as the manga adaptation is coming to Western audiences next year.
Adachi and Shimamura is available to stream on Funimation. The light novel series is published by Seven Seas - https://amzn.to/3rTSZTK
Tumblr media
Honorable Mention: Happy Go Lucky Days
The OVA adaptation of Fragtime got most of the attention this year. Still, director Takuya Satou and Pony Canyon also gave us this much-overlooked “love is love” anthology movie based on Takako Shimura’s manga (Sweet Blue Flowers, Wandering Son). The first short in the film, “Happy,” is easily the best Yuri anime of the year. It follows the beautiful yet realistic queer love story of two women hooking up at a mutual ex-girlfriend’s wedding, only for the relationship to blossom and warm viewers’ hearts. Sadly, while stylized, the budget demanded the animation cut a few too many corners. Additionally, the subsequent stories are at best tedious and at worst alarmingly problematic, which is why Happy Go Lucky Days only gets an honorable mention.
The OVA is streaming on HIDIVE
Tumblr media
13: Mieri Hiranishi
The Yuri scene has many colorful creators with a breadth of different ideas and stories in the genre, yet few have provided as much humor and joy as Mieri. This talented creator spectacularly tumbled into the scene with her manga essay The Moment I Realized I Wasn’t Straight, which embodies the brutal honesty and realism of Nagata Kabi and matches it with exaggerated hilarity. She continues to chronicle her painful struggles of being a butch girl in love with butch girls in the monthly series The Girl that Can’t Get a Girlfriend. Alternatively, you can follow her on Twitter for just as much heart and laughter.
Read The Girl that Can’t get a Girlfriend on Tapas and Webtoon.

12: My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!
My Next Life as a Villainess has what can only be described as volcanic bisexual energy. Every character protagonist Catarina Claes encounters is entirely enthralled by her. Of course, she is far too preoccupied with her quest to avoid doom flags and change her ultimate fate to notice any romantic interest. The series is rewarding and well structured, as views are just as focused on how Catarina plans to avoid certain doom as they are with the various romantic misses her band of companions cooks up. While the “friendship ending” did not capitalize on its Yuri potential, it was perhaps the most satisfying possibility for this crazy harem, at least until season two comes out, which looks, unfortunately, to be significantly less queer.
My Next Life as a Villainess is streaming on Crunchyroll
Tumblr media
11: Love Me for Who I Am
Kata Konayama’s manga series is less Yuri than a general LGBT work, but it has a lesbian character and explores her identity and struggles in great detail. Few titles before have captured the exciting and nervous waves of emotions that young people feel as they explore gender and sexual identities and try to find themselves. This heartfelt and extremely queer series rubberbands between cute moe dress up to tragic and gripping backstory, keeping readers on their toes the whole time.
Love me for Who I Am is published by Seven Seas - https://amzn.to/3rTSZTK

10: A Summer’s End – Hong Kong 1986
Oracle and Bone’s debut visual novel, A Summer’s End, is set in a vibrant and electric 1980’s Hong Kong. Drawing inspiration from classic Asian cinema, music, and fashion. The worlds of Michelle, a young office worker, and a free-spirited woman named Same collide. The two struggle to comprehend and accept each other’s feelings just as they struggle against society’s expectations and prejudices. An incredibly thoughtful and touching adventure, the creators incorporated vital contemporary elements include Asian LGBTQ rights and growing political unrest in Hong Kong, into this illustrious game.
The visual novel is available on Steam.
Tumblr media
Honorable Mention: Goodbye, My Rose Garden
In the same vein as A Summer’s End, Goodbye, My Rose Garden is a beautiful period piece that incorporates LGBT views into its shattering narrative. The story follows a bright-eyed immigrant, Hanako, wanting to make a new life in England as an author at the dawn of the twentieth century. She takes a job as a maid to noblewoman Alice, but their relationship takes a turn when Alice asks Hanako to kill her. This poignant tale is beautiful and an honest depiction of love and its conflict with responsibility and society.
Goodbye, My Rose Garden is published by Seven Seas Entertainment - https://amzn.to/3hFSyaG
Tumblr media
9: Shio Usui
Usui’s hit Shaikaijin Yuri manga Doughnuts Under a Crescent Moon could easily take this spot even though it is not even out in English until February 2021. The manga is already making waves and receiving constant praise. The characters and their journey to discover love and self-acceptance are as charming as they are relatable and grounded. However, it is the creator, Usui, who really deserves acclaim. Not just for their work on Doughnuts, but having a second serialized story, Onna Tomodachi to Kekkon Shitemita, in monthly Yuri magazine Comic Yuri Hime simultaneously. It is even more remarkable when you consider these two iconic stories are Usui’s first long-running works, as they only contributed one-shots before.
Tumblr media
8: Bloom Into You: Regarding Saeki Sayaka
Bloom Into You is possibly the most iconic Yuri series in the past decade, and while the manga deserves its own place on this list, the best thing to come out of the series as a whole is easily the light novels. This trilogy by Adachi and Shimamura creator Hitoma Iruma dives deep into supporting cast member Sayaka. Readers are treated to a delightful journey as she discovers her sexuality, experiences heartbreak, and finally finds herself breaking free and falling in love. With the help of gorgeous illustrations by Nakatani Nio herself, Iruma masterfully captures Sayaka’s unique voice and emotions in this wonderful series. Whether a fan of the originals or not, every Yurijin must check out Regarding Saeki Sayaka.
The light novel series is published by Seven Seas - https://amzn.to/3hFSyaG

7: Our Teachers are Dating
The best a Yuri can get. This workplace romance follows two teachers at the start of a new relationship taking nervous yet enthusiastic first steps, including saying I love you, going on their first date, and even sleeping together. It is so heartfelt and salacious that readers will squeal the whole time. Additionally, our heroines are supported in their relationship by everyone they know, their students, colleagues, and even the principal. It is a perfect world for these two lovebirds! Our Teachers are Dating would easily be number one or two in any other year, but the competition is fierce in 2020. So even though this is only number seven, it is still a master class Yuri manga.
The manga is published by Seven Seas Entertainment - https://amzn.to/38XY3O9
Tumblr media
6: Amongst Us
Who would have thought that a comedy alternative universe story spinoff of a fantasy action series would be the single best Yuri webcomic this year? Shilin’s astounding artwork illustrations the hilarious and irresistible journey of girlfriends Blackbird and Veloce. These two eccentric young women get into all kinds of everyday mischief that bounces between tender and touching romance, completely outrageous comedy, and downright thirst-inducing sorcery. Seriously, you should buy the first volume for Veloce’s back muscles alone. The storyline skips between time, but both their established relationship and their meeting as teenagers are adorkable and captivating.
Amongst Us is available online free on Webtoon and the comic’s website. The first volume is in paperback on Shilin’s site.
Tumblr media
Honorable Mention: Éclair
There are a lot of Yuri anthologies out there, and they have done some beautiful things. Many focus on themes like Syrup. Others collect a series of stories by an author into one bound work. However, out of all of them, Éclair is the most successful. ASCII Media Works took some of the genre’s most extraordinary creators and let them do whatever they wanted, and the results are spectacular. The incredible talent behind Éclair somehow packs a full volume’s worth of story and character into just a few pages with every chapter. While the first volume came overseas a few years ago, Yen Press gave Yurijin a gift this year by releasing the entire rest of the series in which readers can get lost.
The anthology series is published by Yen Press - https://amzn.to/38XY3O9

5: I’m in Love with the Villainess
A small trend of isekai Yuri with villainesses emerged recently, and I honestly had few hopes of I’m in Love with the Villainess. The series is pretty popular, but I often find that this does not denote quality, and with isekai having some institutional issues, I suspected this would fall flat. Then the volume three cover showcased an incredible accomplishment, allowing for a lesbian relationship to blossom into a family with children, and it blew me away. Finally, I read volume one and realized that the series has incredible character, some of the best world-building I have ever seen in a light novel, thoughtful discussions of inequality and societal issues, and most impressively, open and frank discussion of queer identity and life Yuri has ever seen! This one is something special.
The series is published by Seven Seas Entertainment - https://amzn.to/3nedvdZ
Tumblr media
4: The Last of Us Part II
Yes, I know this one is not Yuri and that a portion of the population despises this game and will likely be exceptionally angry at me for including it. However, I maintain that it was an incredibly challenging masterpiece. Naughty Dog did not take the easy route out and delivered one of the most devastating media experiences I have ever seen. As I said in my article about the game, playing it changed me, and it sticks with me to this day. The Last of Us Part II earns its spot on this list because it pushed boundaries more with LGBTQ inclusion than any other AAA game. From brave inclusion of LGBTQ themes to queer characters and storylines at its center, the game changes gaming and it will never go back.
The Last of Us Part II is available on PlayStation 4
Tumblr media
3: She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
She-Ra feels like the culmination of all the LGBTQ progress western cartoons have made over the past few years. From The Legend of Korra to Steven Universe, young people are finally seeing more LGBTQ people represented on the small screen. This epic fantasy concluded with an amazing and powerful lesbian romance, delivering on its queer promise and revolutionized representation in a trope-defying crescendo.
She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is streaming on Netflix
Tumblr media
2:  The Conditions of Paradise
The greatest single Yuri work of all in 2020 was the English release of Akiko Morishima’s breakthrough manga, The Conditions of Paradise. Initially released in 2007, this anthology detailed the love between adult women. It was in every way a manga ahead of its time, and seeing it finally get a small piece of the recognition it deserves overseas is a true gift. The fact that we can own this legendary piece of Yuri history and Morishima’s other anthologies is nothing short of a blessing from the Yuri goddess.
The Conditions of Paradise is published by Seven Seas Entertainment - https://amzn.to/38bh4xq
Tumblr media
Honorable Mention: Otherside Picnic
This eerie sci-fi horror series combines the best of pulse-pounding thrillers, complex and intelligent hard science fiction, and exciting Yuri romance. Author Iori Miyazawa spends as much time crafting a well-paced and intriguing narrative about a mysterious world where occult creatures roam as he does establishing two believable and grounded heroes in Sorawo and Toriko. The romance between the two may be slow to start, but their chemistry is undeniable and as the stakes and story build, so too does their relationship. Not only are the light novels incredible, but the series’ manga adaptation is coming soon to the West as well as an upcoming TV anime in early 2021.
Otherside Picnic is streaming on Funimation. The light novels are published by J-Novel Club - https://amzn.to/3niiv1g
Tumblr media
1. Yuri subgenres
For a long time, Yuri was not a genre of its own, but elements of romances or bonds between women found in other works. Now, thanks to an increasing library of works, the advent of social media, and a wider audience, Yuri is a genre on its own, with many creators telling different stories in different styles. However, 2020 saw the continued emergence of something extraordinary, subgenres. Yuri is now so vast, we can actually categorize the works within. Depending on their characters, like classic schoolgirl romances or spicy shakaijin office affairs, their world, such as fantasy or isekai series and thrilling science fiction adventures, and even other elements within. One of my personal favorites is the feminist Yuri that emerges from titles like Sexiled, where women celebrate the accomplishments of other women and dismantle power structures stacked against them. Now, no matter what kind of Yurijin you are, there is something for you to love.
Tumblr media
I am happy to leave 2020 behind, but I bring with me a renewed love and admiration for Yuri. 2021 looks to be a somehow even better year for the genre, and I am thrilled to experience every minute of it that I can. Yuri has transformed into something far greater than I ever thought it would be, and let us all enjoy its evolution and expansion together in 2021.

Church of Light, Mauler Temple, and the characters associated with them – Part 2
Read part 1 here!
I talked about the organizations themselves in the last post. Today, I want to take a closer look at the associated characters. First, I’d like to focus on the Church of Light related characters and after, I’ll focus on the Mauler Temple associates. At some point, I might even make go ahead and talk about Graveborn who got caught up in the religious mess, mainly the forsaken family, on the celestials’ complicated relationship to both religious organizations, or on the political counterparts of each respective organization – the royal army for Lightbearers and the tribal alliance under Skriath for Maulers.
In this post, I’ll be focusing on the more directly related characters – Cecilia and Eluard, and the next one will move on to the more distantly related ones – Belinda and Lucius.
Cecilia – Purger of Sins
When we talk about Church of Light, the characters who always get brought up are Lucius and Belinda first, and Eluard later. Few people ever bring up Cecilia even though she’s been in the game for a fairly long time and may even be directly involved in multiple characters’ backstories (Rosaline and Belinda are most likely, though if you believe the Oscar and Rosaline siblings theory, then he counts too). She was one of the first characters to point at the darker side of the Church of Light that we came to love to criticise so much.
Now, I don’t want to pretend like all of this ignorance comes from Cecilia’s appearance and gender but we saw how people react to Lucretia – someone who kills children at large for no reason other than her own bitterness and who stalked a man she idolized without even knowing him, then pressured him into marrying her. I just feel like a lot of people cut Cecilia some slack because she’s a conventionally attractive woman, not to mention one who makes a clever use of what would otherwise be a disability. With that out of the way, there is more why she doesn’t get as much dirt as the other characters in this organization. Cecilia had a very strong reason for joining the Path of Ascension, one that a lot of us can understand and emphasize with even if we haven’t been through the same.
Cecilia is one of the few characters where we have details about her family. I don’t mean there aren’t any, but you could probably count them on the fingers of your hands. And what more, most of the other characters are more or less at least partially responsible for the deaths of their loved ones while Cecilia had nothing to do with her husband’s murder. Cecilia joined the church only after already having gone on her own to take revenge for her husband and deciding that it wasn’t enough. Cecilia’s reason for joining the church is, ultimately, the will to protect others. Whether you like it or not, cultists do exist in Esperia, and they murder people. Cecilia was on the receiving end of that cruelty once and she doesn’t want anyone else to get there too. In a cruel twist of irony, there are times when she herself is now the one causing pain by tearing families apart. The question is: Do her good deeds outweigh her wrongs?
Where the question of Cecilia gets interesting is when we consider one of the most recent character’s addition. Oku, much like Cecilia, went through a horrible loss, and following the event, he joined an extremist organizationthat slaughters those it hates without discrimination. I think the key difference between them is that Oku was, like I said previously, at least partially responsible for his own downfall. Oku seeks to attone by killing people while Cecilia seeks to protect others from the same pain she went through. In Oku’s case, helping others is a by-product of his own redemption while in Cecilia’s, helping itself is the goal she was aiming for.
Eluard – The Protector of Souls
The other member of the inquisitory part of the church, the most secret part of it, would be Eluard. Now, they could’ve easily gone the same route as they did with Cecilia or having Eluard be the “evil church person” a lot of people in the fandom were expecting him to be, they went the complete opposite route. Eluard is, quite possibly, the gentlest character we have. One who actively strived to save everyone at any given moment and was genuinely terrified when he lost control even though he would’ve been murdered if he didn’t kill the people around him first. Even after the powers within him calmed down, he spent hours weeping over the lives he involuntarily took, and hours more in prayers for guidance and forgiveness.
An important part that I think doesn’t get brought up enough is that Eluard has nowhere to go. He’s been adopted by the church as a young child. We don’t know if that’s because he was orphaned because even in the real world, the church would often adopt even children with families, and some families would give their children up for a good name in the community and a reputation of piety. The Church of Light then went on to cripple Eluard socially by not teaching him any life skills and only educating him in the way of the church. Eluard has nowhere to go not because he doesn’t try hard enough but because at his age, it would be virtually impossible to start from the ground up, not to mention the church would hunt him down if he disobeyed.
He’s always been pious and a frevent believer but despite his best efforts, the Light has been avoiding him for years, as if waiting and biding its time. This is purely a theory on my part but we know that since a young age, Eluard didn’t get upset with people but rather regarded everyone and everything around him as priceless treasures. The Light descended upon him the first time he felt any sort of animosity – and even then it wasn’t selfish on his part. Or at least the story says that’s what he felt but in Eluard’s own words, he wished for them to be soothed by the Light and to see the truth. For what it’s worth, it seems almost as though the Light was waiting for some superficial hint of malice to then amplify it and bring out its destructive power in full. It resulted in Eluard breaking down, much to the further displeasure of the other priests.
Eluard became an executioner but not of his own volition. The Light that descended upon him is described as “dazzling,” in quotation marks. Nobody knows what really happened, and Eluard never talks about it. But that day, he put on a golden mask – his very own gentle way of rebelling against the very organization he just joined. Instead of sharing the church’s cold hatred for anyone even a little different, Eluard hides his face and, likely, weeps for every lost soul. Of course, he can’t show this outwardly. Hence why the mask is protection as well as a way to stand up to the oppressive regime of the church.

dream smp asagao au, aka the very specific high school au
also aka the post thats very self indulgent for me and maybe 3 other people.
in short: its a dsmp high school au based on the game asagao academy, where everyone is part of a gaming club and compete against one another in tournaments. more in depth info about the AU/Asagao itself, as well as more info about the plot and roles of the AU itself.
Asagao Academy Basics
So to start, let’s cover the basics: what is Asagao Academy. ….well, an old Youtuber dating sim game (which, despite unfortunately including some fairly questionable CCs, IS still really good and well written and I recommend it) But what is it for AU purposes?
Asagao Academy is a highly elite world-wide boarding school set in Japan for those who are either rich enough to afford it, or those skilled enough to get scholarships. Within the game, there are two main clubs: Normal Boots and Hidden Block. They’re both gaming clubs, and joining is seen as super exclusive since they’re ALSO the most popular people in the school.
The two clubs compete with each other in various tournament events with specific categories. For example: Satch (from NB) and Jimmy (from HB) both compete in the “Tech and Invention” category, where they have to create/invent something related to gaming and have it judged at the event like a science fair. Meanwhile, Jared (from NB) and Wallid (from HB) both compete in “Dance” aka DDR and the person with the highest score wins.
The other categories featured in game include: Puzzle games (like Bejeweled or Tetris), Video Game Trivia, Pinball, Retro Platformers, a three-person fighting game, and 100% completion speedruns. So tldr; the categories can be kind of fiddled with and be whatever you want them to be, because even the original ones are pretty wack.
Also, there’s no rules against competing in multiple categories— in fact, most of the HB members in game do! It’s more about balancing time and practicing for them alongside school and other activities.
The winner of the competition is the team/competitor(s) with the most total wins.
Another thing to note: despite competing as clubs, they’re all actually pretty good friends. It’s all lighthearted and fun in the end, hell the leader of the opposing club even helps the main character join the main club just because he wants a decent challenge.
Speaking of… the main character! Hana Mizuno! I don’t have any current plans to include her in this AU (a la new dating routes), but I wanted to mention her for a few reasons.
Tumblr media
For the main reason: her hair. Even as soon as she shows up, Mai (her best friend and roommate, who can break the 4th wall) immediately calls her out for her hair for looking like a main character which as we learn… isn’t an exaggeration. She’s literally a born protagonist, thus being born with naturally pink hair and a tragic backstory. Not only that, but other people are also born protagonists with pink hair as well— she isn’t an exception.
About the AU -- Revolution Era
A few things to note: in this au, when I first drafted it I… wasn’t looking to include 20+ people. I cut a lot of characters, but instead working with the idea that they’re still THERE, they just… don’t compete? Either they aren’t in the club and are just friends with the members, or they’re members who just don’t compete professionally. It’s nothing personal against those CCs and tbh as times goes they may get added more, but for now they’re just in the BG vibin.
It covers a really basic retelling of s1 for most of the planned au. It starts with One Club: the Dream Team. Members include: Dream (sophomore), Sapnap (sophomore), George (junior), Wilbur (junior), Eret (junior), and Fundy (freshman).
For reasons, possibly just as a goof or spite towards their American counterparts, Wilbur declares independence from the Dream Team and makes his OWN gaming club: L’Manberg. He takes Eret (a close friend from his grade) and Fundy (the freshman he immediately adopted) with him, causing the two teams to be 3v3.
But Wilbur’s got a dastardly surprise up his sleeve: TOMMY, HIS YOUNGER BROTHER (bc I am nothing if not a dedicated crimebros stan), AND TUBBO. They’re both too young to actually attend Asagao yet, but theres no age rules in the actual competitions so its fair play. They’re Wilbur’s secret weapon. After all, a 5v3 where the team with the most wins wins the competition? That’s a massive advantage.
… we all know how this goes though don’t we. Wilbur’s day be so fine, then BOOM, Eret betrayal 😔
In this case Eret feels it’s a LITTLE unfair to blindside them like that, plus Dream promised to make him the Leader of the Dream Team and, yknow, that kind of stuff DOES look good on resumes, so…
TLDR; Eret rejoins the Dream Team crew, as well as informing them of Wilbur’s plan with including Tommy and Tubbo and becomes leader. They’re still letting Dream and Co. basically actually do the leading, they don’t care that much, the title is just nice. L’Manberg cusses her out and promises to hold a grudge, but it’s all in good fun. After all, they’re just teens goofing around and playing. The clubs are again 4v4.
Dream tells the L’Manberg club that they can separate, sure… under one condition. They have to win the competition. If they lose, they have to rejoin the Dream Team club.
L’Manberg accepts, but come competition day… they lose. Tommy outright challenges Dream post awards to a speedrun competition for L’Manberg instead. …which Dream professionally competes in, and Tommy DOESN’T.
He loses, but he puts up a good fight despite having little to no actual practice put in, so Dream “grants” L’Manberg their “Independence”. (In this au, instead of being like… weirdly obsessive over Tommy, it’s a lot more “he sees himself in Tommy and wants to support/mentor him” and a “friendly rivalry” kind of deal bc its a damn HIGH SCHOOL AU)
So L’Manberg can be it’s own club! …Next year, when Tommy and Tubbo actually attend, since Wilbur and Fundy aren’t allowed a two person club.
About the AU -- Election Era
SO time skip! Congrats, everything up to now has been BACKSTORY. It’s now the next school year, with two main clubs (I’ve tried to keep them fairly balanced, which is why not all CCs are featured, sorry!)
Dream Team club:
Dream - junior
George - senior
Sapnap - junior
Eret - senior
Punz - junior
BBH - senior
Awesamdude - junior
Ponk - junior
L’Manberg club:
Wilbur - senior
Tommy - freshman
Tubbo - freshman
Fundy - sophomore
Schlatt - senior
Quackity - junior
Niki - sophomore
Jack - sophomore
(Also fun fact! Their grades are loosely based on the CCs actual ages! …Except Fundy, who got Baby-fied to fit the “Wilbur’s Kid” joke, and Eret bc it fit better to be the same age as Wilbur I thought. Oops HEKANDNSN)
So, for whatever Reason (listen this was an au I made in like one night when plagued with brainrot, it’s not all figured out), L’Manberg holds an election. Maybe it’s related to Wilbur wanting L’Manberg to be meaningfully different from Dream Team, maybe it’s a joke, idk!
…. SOMEHOW, Schlatt wins. Which ticks off Wilbur a lot. It’s his damn club, and the whole point was to avoid Americans, tf?? The two start to feud a lot and it threatens to split the club entirely via ppl taking sides. Worse, it means people aren’t practicing for the competition.
All while this is happening, there’s a new intrigue building. Dream catches word of an infamous player in the area, someone known to win entire competitions against teams of people all by HIMSELF. A man with bright bubblegum pink hair called Technoblade. That’s right, literal universe-assigned protagonist Techno. If Dream could enlist him, there’s no doubt in hell they’d be able to beat L’Manberg.
L’Manberg hears of him too and works to try and enlist him as well, so he basically gets courted by both clubs trying to get him to play for them to mixed results. He’s pretty chill vibin by himself, so what’s in it for him? (….I don’t know, remember how this is a WIP au I worked on once?)
Eventually, a teacher named Phil (who’s been the honorary sponsor of the L’Manberg club) gets pissed at Schlatt and Wilbur’s fighting and bans both from competing (aka this AUs version of them dying). Which fucking SUCKS for L’Manberg. They’re now going 6v8 with a wildcard player who’s undeclared on which side he’ll join, if at all.
… honestly, that’s as far as I got. Theoretically, Techno joins L’Manberg to reflect Pogtopia and they win. I never had plans to go into s2 due to its darker theme, but there are definitely changes that could (and might?) be made for the s1 plot just so it flows better.
I already had to shift Wil and Schkatt’s “deaths” to fit, unless I were to have them LITERALLY make a new club. Maybe Schlatt uses his power as Club President to make them work with Dream Team (to the point it basically merges the clubs). Sure, they might be guaranteed to win now but it removes the competition and fun as well as the spirit of OG L’Manberg. So then Wilbur rebels and makes his own club AGAIN, calling it Pogtopia with the intent to get L’Manberg back. Then Techno, intrigued with this group of like 2-3 ppl going against a team of like 13ish people, decides to join them. Idk! Alternative possible plot based more closely on s1 I guess!
I’m gonna add a list of characters in full with their age, their club, and what they compete in (if it’s already brainstormed, most ppl are unknown) below
Character List
dream (DT) - junior - speedrunning
george (DT) - senior - coding/tech and invention
sapnap (DT)- junior -
eret (DT) - senior -
wilbur (LM) - senior - rhythm game/guitar hero-esque
tommy (LM) - freshman - (possibly pick up speed running during election arc?)
tubbo (LM) - freshman - chess
fundy (LM) - sophomore - coding/tech and invention
schlatt (LM) - senior - he never actually declares what he plans to play and then gets banned anyway, aka no game kekw
quackity (LM)- junior - dance
niki (LM) - sophomore -
jack (LM) - sophomore-
punz (DT) - junior -
bbh (DT) - senior -
awesamdude (DT) - junior -
ponk (DT) - junior
technoblade (SOLO) - junior - multiple categories
FINAL BIT
here’s some scraps for ppl who know Asagao already as well as small bits I didn’t bother to write up any further
- Karl, much like Mai, is ALSO aware of the 4th wall and has time travel powers because of it.
- Purpled (undecided if he’s a solo player like Techno or has his own team he competes with that’s not a formal club) plays Literally Bedwars in competitions
- Callahan is the Dream Team club sponsor, Phil is L’Manberg’s club sponsor
- Karlnapity is real and canon bc I say so
- both for balance/laziness, every person only competes in one category. also bc it makes Techno that much more Protagonist-y that he does
- I made this AU in like February man idk I’m just vibin
- Fuck I never even included Ranboo huh

Okay so I love the Paranormal Liberation War arc, it does so much fantastic stuff, dang near perfect across the board. But I think it’s pretty widely felt that the pacing got a bit off the rails near the end, we had big reveals and character moments stacking up and half of them barely even felt relevant. And me being the person who just thinks about things in depth and for long periods, I’ve still been dwelling on it for months. And now as the manga has continued, I’m finally seeing how some of the aforementioned War moments could have been better executed in different situations, because honestly this latest arc seems like it would have been tailor-made to address them all. So lemme take a closer look at three different components here: Mirio/Eri, Bakugo, and Hawks.
1. Mirio and Eri
Tumblr media
Probably the most random moment from the war’s climax, don’t think anyone was predicting the sudden return of Mirio to battle. I love Mirio, he’s one of my favorite characters, but it was a pretty anticlimactic way to bring him back into the fold. He doesn’t even really bring anything special to the battle, nothing uniquely Mirio. His role is just backing up Best Jeanist against the Nomu, and anyone could have done that. Burnin could’ve arrived sooner, or Manual and Rock Lock could’ve come back after getting the injured heroes to safety. Heck, if you still wanted the Nighteye agency to be involved, then Bubble Girl and Centipeder could’ve been the cavalry to help Jeanist. But instead Mirio returns unexpectedly and none too remarkably.
And on top of that, we’re basically just told “oh by the way Eri has some control of her power now.” Something that the series had been building up toward for awhile just … occurs off-screen with no forewarning. Really feels like a disservice to Eri and her development to not give that intense moment any real spotlight.
Tumblr media
It felt extremely weird for me at the time, but I also kinda wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt. Maybe the coming arcs just couldn’t afford to place focus on Eri and Mirio, so their respective developments were tied together to lend an extra surprise to the war’s final bout. But instead this most recent arc has gone the opposite route … through the return of Chisaki.
The man once known as Overhaul, now thoroughly broken and wanting nothing more than to fix his one great regret. With Nagant’s defeat, he winds up back in custody, but having now once again met with Midoriya and made his wish known. So indeed, the opportunity arises for Eri and Mirio to be brought back to the forefront. I don’t doubt that we will indeed have at least a brief glimpse at Eri healing Chisaki’s boss as Midoriya promised, but the potential for that scene could really have been through the roof if it was the impetus for Eri to willingly use her power on a person for the first time.
Tumblr media
Imagine Midoriya coming to Eri with that heavy request, of Eri deciding to offer this kindness toward Chisaki of all people, using her power to heal before the man who always told her that she could only destroy. Because really, I don’t think there’d be a question of that, we know the kind of kid Eri is, and she won’t let anyone suffer if there’s any way she could prevent it. Even if Chisaki was the person asking, there might be hesitation and fear, but is there any doubt she’d offer what aid she could in the end? And for Pops to be the first person she helps, to undo the harm carelessly inflicted by Chisaki … well, it’d certainly be poetic.
As for Mirio in this scenario, that could go a couple ways. Route 1: Eri is hesitant to help Chisaki with Pops because she would rather help Mirio get his Quirk back, and we know that her power seems to have a bit of a limit on it via the energy stored in her horn. So what if it did work, but she ran out of juice healing Pops and then made Mirio wait even longer? Well, of course that’s exactly what he’d insist on, he wouldn’t let himself take priority over another person in need of Eri’s help. And he’d take it all in good spirits as always. Or Route 2, if there was concern that Eri’s power could run wild while trying to help Pops, then they could go the complete opposite direction and have Mirio offer to go first, to be the guinea pig for Eri in case of emergency. But of course, he’d have full faith in her all along and coax her through, ensuring her of just how helpful and brave she always is.
Tumblr media
So yes, can see how Eri and Mirio’s development could have taken a more satisfying route, and cap us off with some good ole Chisaki angst to boot (though at least we’ve still got a decent serving of that). Now moving on …
2. Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight
Tumblr media
So Bakugo’s long and arduous journey of personal growth reached a new peak during the battle with Shigaraki, where his body moved without thinking and he underwent his true heroic awakening to protect Midoriya. Such a sacrifice seems like a perfect cap for his development for the War arc … and then a couple chapters later he forces himself right back into action to back up Best Jeanist, and as promised he reveals his over-the-top hero name to his mentor. In this case I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with the reveal, but in light of his preceding big heroic action, it really feels like a hat on a hat.
It’s not like Bakugo’s hero name heralded some major turning point for the battle; Jeanist’s arrival (and subsequently Mirio’s) had already assured that. And like Mirio, there wasn’t any real special reason for Bakugo to rejoin the fight with the Nomu, especially with Iida and Hado on the scene. After getting skewered by Shigaraki, it would have been pretty simple for Bakugo to just spend the rest of the fight bleeding unconscious on the ground, rather than complicating matters by shoving him back into the fray. And ultimately, the moment feels a bit anticlimactic. All the suspense waiting for Bakugo’s hero name, and then it’s revealed at a time where he barely even has the spotlight.
Tumblr media
Of course, such a bombastic name as “Great Explosion Murder God Dynamight” doesn’t particularly lend itself to a quiet or emotional scene, so it wouldn’t be thematically fitting to move that revelation to Bakugo’s hospital bed or his somber apology to Midoriya. That said, given his decision to announce the name first to Jeanist, there would at least be precedent for him to have a “Dabi says secrets in a black speech bubble” moment in the hospital in which he talks to Jeanist but leaves the readers in the dark, before coming back to the actual audience reveal later on.
And there must certainly be other opportunities to present the name appropriately. Bakugo is a master of making an explosive entrance, after all. And when Class 1-A finally catches up to Midoriya, if Bakugo really wanted to make a big impact on his friend/rival before getting into the sentimental stuff, then it would be a prime chance to reveal his hero name in grandiose fashion, both to Midoriya and the audience.
Tumblr media
Or if his hero name had been Kacchan, then that reveal would have fit right in with his apology to Midoriya, but that’s neither here nor there
This could be one scenario, of course, but it hardly feels like that would’ve been the only option. And compared to the crammed-in reveal in the final fight with the League, it’s easy to say that there could have been plenty of smoother roads to take.  But setting that aside, moving onto the final touch:
3. Hawks
The long-awaited Hawks backstory doesn’t really disappoint. Admittedly, there weren’t really a lot of holes necessary to fill in there; we’d had enough bits and pieces provided before this point to pretty much put together the whole picture of his crummy childhood. But even without any really surprising turns, the flashback is welcome and hits some good emotional beats. But really, the glaring issue in this area is the timing.
Tumblr media
We’re presented this backstory at an instance where Hawks is hardly the most relevant character. Shigaraki is undergoing a personal crisis as All For One seizes the reigns of his own body, Endeavor’s dark history has been exposed and the Todoroki family is in turmoil, escapees from Tartarus roam the streets, and Midoriya consults internally with the vestiges of One For All ... and the narrative decides to take a chapter to look at Hawks. Practically nothing from his flashback directly relates to present events, serving only to further emphasize his already well-established devotion to Endeavor and his (misguided) understanding of Twice’s feelings. The timing is just kind of baffling, especially with some other more appropriate places being readily apparent.
For instance, only a dozen chapters later, we’re properly introduced to Lady Nagant. As Hawks’s predecessor within the Hero Commission, the two have a lot in common, and the similarities and differences between the two could set up some interesting comparisons if Hawks’s backstory was saved to follow up Nagant’s. Two idealistic young children, handpicked by the Commission and groomed into assassins, yet whose outlooks in the present day are starkly opposed? Nagant's guilt driving her to turn on the Commission, while Hawks holds few regrets despite the blood on his hands, longing for freedom from the Commission’s grasp? That kind of parallel could really have built a more solid foundation for Hawks’s past to be laid upon.
Tumblr media
That could be an effective setup, but there’s another approach I’d actually much rather have seen, one that brings Hawks’s backstory not later, but earlier: during the dramatic confrontation between Hawks and Dabi. The instant that Dabi reveals he knows Hawks’s real name, the story opens itself up perfectly to dive into his past. And the timing would be superb, showing Hawks at his worst as he murders Twice, then turning back the clock to look at the innocent child who just wants to save people. A little boy whose feathers tingle with the need to rescue those in need, superimposed against the man whose same feathers are used to deliver the killing blow to a victim of hero society’s ills. You want angst? Now that’s how you do angst. Placing the backstory there would play up the tragedy of both Hawks and Twice simultaneously: a “hero” raised by the Commission to cut threats to their control short at the root, and a “villain” who could have been a kindred spirit but instead suffers for their would-be friendship.
And that’s not even the icing on the cake. The real matter of interest here comes in Hawks’s view of Endeavor. By the time we get to Hawks’s backstory, all of Japan has already learned of Endeavor’s history from Dabi, and the result of the timing feels a smidge tone-deaf, and fails to realize the full potential resonance of the situation. The flashback to young Hawks as a victim of child abuse, who is rescued (unwittingly) when Endeavor arrests his father, is presented to us as the moment when Hawks realized that heroes are real, not merely a fantasy. We see why he developed such an ideal view of heroes, and why he is so specifically loyal to Endeavor ... so just imagine if all that was presented during his showdown with Dabi. Imagine if all that came before the tragic revelation of Toya Todoroki. The true terrible irony, that Hawks was rescued from his abusive father by someone secretly guilty of the same crimes, that Hawks’s whole epiphany of “real heroism” was founded upon one of the most corrupt enforcers of all.
Tumblr media
The end result would be the same, I’m sure. After all, this is certainly the same thought process Hawks was going through all along, and his decision to maintain his faith in Endeavor’s personal growth would presumably remain unchanged. But presenting Hawks’s backstory before Dabi’s would have opened up a lot more room for us as the audience to actually see Hawks’s views be challenged. If there’s one real complaint I’ve got about Hawks’s character, it’s that we don’t really tend to see him questioning himself or his actions; whatever happens, he rolls with it and presses on, no matter how his ideals are brought into question. But this simple matter of timing could go a long ways to remedying that, granting the audience the chance to watch Hawks grapple with his personal image of and approach to heroism, and his relationship with Endeavor, rather than allowing most of that to pass unseen in the wake of the war’s end. Even if he would ultimately come to the same conclusion, at least such a narrative structure would provide a much more satisfying presentation of his struggle up to that point.
So, I’m not great at endings, but that brings us to the conclusion of my rambling though process here. To recap, the more I’ve thought about it, the more obvious it is that the backloaded War arc could be remedied, and the following arc only made that more obvious. Why force Mirio’s return so soon when he could be tied in later with Eri mastering her powers and the desperate pleas of Chisaki? Why shove in Bakugo’s hero name when the boy has already made a tremendous impact on the arc, and will be more open to further focus during the conflict with Deku in the next? And why throw in Hawks’s backstory as a standalone chapter at a time when it’s largely irrelevant, when there was such great potential to emotionally contrast him with the backstory of Nagant or Dabi? These are the kinds of things I think about. Little things, really, and honestly the whole reason they stand out to me is just that the rest of the arc around them is so dang fantastic. So … yes. This is the testament to my love for this manga, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk, byeeeeee

My thoughts/comments on roughly pages 700-900 of COI.
**TW/CW**
Alcoholism
Miscarriage
Child trafficking
.

.
.
.
Matthew and Elias are more alike than Cordelia thinks, Matthew is just a nicer drunk than Elias. They both have/had their demons and use alcohol as an attempted escape, let's just hope things turn out better for Matthew than they did Elias .
Ahhh I really hope there isnt going to be a love triangle between Matthew, Cordelia and James, unless they become a throuple, but I am more so rooting for MatthewxLucie. Isnt Jesse like 8 years older than Lucie? I mean I guess he's technically forever 17 and doesnt have much more life experience than her but still, I prefer them as besties.
Grace leave James alone!
Uh yeah Grace no duh the Bridgestocks dont like you, you're the woman Charles left Ariadne for, that could have ruined her reputation
GRACE FUCK OFF!
JAMES DO NOT KISS HER, Tessa needs to get back and slap some sense into her son jfc!
DAMMIT JAMES!!!
"I should go" Yes you should! And leave James the fuck alone!
The Famer at the Barrow is Wayland the Smith, calling it now
Yep I knew it!
I want a crossover series where Cortana meets Sumabrander/Jack from Magnus Chase 😂😂
Wayland the Smith wants payment for healing Cortana, uh oh, all magic comes with a price
Wait what is a paladin? Does Wayland want Cordelia to find the killer and stop the killings? Has she not already sworn fealty to Cortana? - Oh no she swore fealty to Wayland, makes sense. Go kick ass Daisy!
Yikes seems as if Lucie's powers might cause some trouble for her
Possible Lucie and Ariadne friendship? Will Lucie help her and Anna get back together?
Okay I fear for Lucie when Grace tells Malcolm about Annabell.
Always thought Malcolm was the one who helped Tatianna preserve Jesse's body, apparently not, new character maybe?
Ooh honey, Malcolm this is so much worse than Annabell rejecting you.
Glad to see Lucie inherited Tessa's sensibility
Ariadne and Anna being Lucie's protective yet kickass lesbian cousins, we stan
Awwww Anna calling Lucie "ducks" 🥺
Oh my God Grace was trafficked??? Tatiana is a child trafficker? As are the Cartwrights? Holy fuck poor Grace!
I hope James is okay, I wonder if he'll tell them about Grace? Or that hes in love with Cordelia? Or that he might be possessed by the killer?
I fucking love Anna fussing over Lucie and calling her pet names, more Anna and her cousins being wholesome please!
But surely Belial cant posses James? He had the spells of protection placed on him as a baby, and he didnt actually die in COG, like Jace did in City of Glass, but maybe its different because he is half Warlock and related to Belial?
Raum venom in my shoe, oh Christopher, never change ❤
"I think he is possessed" said Thomas "He is defacing a book" LMAOOOOOOO throw that shade Tommy!
"He felt an odd sensation, tingling between his shoulder blades, apprehension perhaps?" Jamie, sweetie, I'm demiromantic and have never been in love yet even I know you're feeling love and attraction to Cordelia
"Just wound me then, stab me in the leg if you have to" Ah, young love
Hmmm Cordelia and James spending the night in the same room, sexy times to ensue?
A crack in the gracelet? Perhaps James'true love for Cordelia is strong enough to break it? Could be going a OUAT route here, if they have kids they would be the product of true love, and very powerful, could play an important role in the future?
Lmao Cordelia blue balling James as revenge for him kissing Grace, good for you girl, good for you.
Oh Thomas POV, hope we get some Thomastair interaction, first kiss maybe?
I hope Anna and Thomas dont go in search of the killer, surely Anna is going to tell him to get his ass back inside? Or maybe she's about to talk to him about his feelings for Alastair? Is this gonna be the equivalent of Nora having to confirm to Alex that he's bi?
Nope the dumbass is going on patrol alone, I'm scared for him. Maybe he'll run into Alastair and they'll patrol together and talk about their feelings?
No James you love Cordelia, not Grace. Snap out of it man!
Jamie baby you owe no one anything, please talk to your parents and Jem!
Uh oh killers POV with Thomas out alone, I'm scared
Oh God the killer noticed Thomas and now we have a Thomas POV, I dont like where this is going. Alastair come save your man!
Nooo poor Lillian. I'm still scared for Thomas though, I think the killer is trying to lure him in
Uh oh, Thomas is about to get in so much trouble
Sshhhhiittt poor Thomas. Charlotte can surely help him tho, right? She knows he would never kill someone
Oooh so James has been going out in his sleep to try and stop the killer?
Is Enoch gonna tell them about Thomas' arrest? Will he be able to help Thomas?
I want a brother Enoch backstory!
Alastair was so following Thomas for his own peace of mind, and to protect him because he loves him.
I wonder why Bridgestock has it in for Thomas.
Consul Charlotte reminds me of President Ellen Claremont, I love it.
I think the pithos is what the killer used to remove the runes
I wonder if there's gonna be some Thomastair angst and confessions now they're locked in the sanctuary together for a day.
Why is the mortal sword in Paris? Seemingly with Will and Tessa? Was Charles tried by the mortal sword?
Charlotte and Henry have been TTC for years now with no results, my theory is that the miscarriage was complicated and caused a lot of scar tissue, and now Charlotte cant get pregnant, so once her time as Consul is up (which is presumably soon, given how the merry thieves theorize that Bridgestock is vying for Consul next term) she and Henry will adopt, either twin girls or 2 girls close in age, like 2/3 year age gap at max.
I really like Eugenia and would like to read more about her.
Alastair comforting Cordelia is so sweet, they are such an iconic sibling duo.
James thinking of Matthew, Christopher and Thomas as his brother's is so wholesome and sweet, I adore it!

9-14 for the arcana ask
Thank you for these! I feel like I don’t really talk as much about the actual M6 (other than shit posts lol) so this will be fun lol Please do not come @ me if you disagree with my opinions
9-14 were opinions on the M6, so I’ll just list them out!
Tumblr media
Asra
I think I enjoy the fan art and fanfiction of Asra more than..... what we get of them in the game
I haven’t been able to finish playing his route tbh but I do enjoy a lot of the yearning and self repression themes though— I am. A sucker for it. (I’m queer. LMFAO) I love the sass, but a lot of his actions frustrate me even though I understand his reasonings why. His intense emotions also just scare the flighty Sagittarius in me ya know ?? LOL
I think he has the most opportunity for really interesting and touching fic elements, and I plan on doing more with him and Donna in the future, he just isn’t my favorite character nor is his route a favorite of mine (despite him being almost the mascot of the game for a bit lol)
Muriel
I think Muriel is the character with the most wasted potential next to maybe Portia? I think he kinda always gets the short end of the stick in mostly every route (we gotta stop fucking in this man’s home 😭😭), but he’s one of the funnier characters and more unique ones from the cast.
His backstory is the most complex and could have potentially been extremely interesting, but when it played out in his route, it just. Didn’t hit for me. I did relate a lot to his struggles with PTSD and anxiety, though, and I did appreciate those genuine moments in his route that really highlighted that and did it well (let’s ignore the forced anxiety attack kiss yes ??)
I’m very particular about the Muriel content I read/look at tbh LMAO But some of my fave fics are the ones where I write with him, so I should do it more often tbh
Portia
I LOVE. MY WIFE!!!
Honestly out of all of the M6, she is the most genuine and most like pure hearted ? But she’s also a freak and I love that for her lmfao She literally just wants to help her friends and family. She’s funny, super quick thinking, competent, but she also fucks up!! And I love that she fucks up! I find so much of her and her arc to be very relatable, and she’s just GORGEOUS LMAO
Her route is one of my favorites (even during its lulls), and I just. Love Portia?? I think the devs truly sleep on her and her potential, and I really need to write more with her and Donna as I love them together 😭
Julian
Julian is why I even got into the game: he is my type to a capital T lmfao
The Devoraks have my heart lmfao but I love this feral sub of a man! He’s so dynamic and dramatic, and yet very intelligent and charming when he wants to be. I am. Weak. For his faux suave persona lmao But I do really enjoy his like genuine, heartfelt moments though, and I also think he has one of the more compelling arcs. His feelings for MC also don’t seem as suffocating (in the beginning anyway), which I appreciated.
All of these are ending with me saying “I don’t write this character enough!!” but I truly don’t LMFAOO even though he is one of my faves. I’ll probably do another Julian/Valerius fic one day as that’s a slept on ship 👀
Lucio
I have a. Love/hate relationship with him. I really enjoy him outside of his route a lot, and I also like (in general) a lot of the fan art of him. And his route gave some good little bits of lore to make good, complicated fics with tbh
But honestly sometimes Lucio is just..... annoying in his route ? LMFAO which I’m not sure is going to be a popular opinion but yeah. I’m really not a fan of “fix you” stories unless like it’s done well (I say this as a Valerius stan but shhh), and the MC corruption in the reverse is just not good or really sold well. I don’t like how MC is basically Lucio’s new mommy who needs to tell him to like say please and thank you :///
I would have LOVED if his route just kept him a villain and WE changed for the worse. I think it would be very original and fun to just go ape shit. What we got felt very generic, and he just felt like a dumb standard boy with dogs ? Which isn’t what I fell in love with initially when I played the game 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ but he has POTENTIAL and I love when people utilize it lmao
Nadia
I am a Nadia SIMP, and if she were real, she truly could do whatever she wanted to me.
Next to Portia, she’s one of my favorite characters. Her route truly makes her so human upon re-playing, and I love both her growth or her corruption so much! She has the range baby!!
She always stands out too in almost all the routes she’s in, which can’t be said for the other M6. I think it reads that even the writers really like working with her, and it shows in how subtly funny and outwardly charming she is. She is the moment and her route is my all time favorite 😭😭

theory time! This post is a response the the wonderful work that @lesbianologist did with their theory that Farah played a role in rescuing Bloom from Aster Dell.
You can find that post: here. I recommend reading it both in general (because it brings up several interesting points) and before reading this post.
I’m doing this as a separate post instead of a reblog because my own theorizing was getting LONG and I didn’t want to clog up the reply section on her post.
I’m going to borrow one of @lesbianologist ‘s screenshots, if you don’t mind! I’ve been staring at this image for much longer than I would care to admit and I just can’t determine if it’s Farah or Rosalind. When the figure turns her head though, her hair looks like it’s in a high ponytail (Farah) and not a low one (Rosalind).
Tumblr media
What we see is important, what we don’t see .  . . also important. The shot is incredibly blurry and there’s no close up, we’re led to believe its Rosalind based solely on Beatrix’s narration of her memory, not what we actually see on screen. Which is interesting because in Bloom’s memory we DO get that closeup of Rosalind’s face at the beginning of episode 3. I think there’s maybe two answers here, the first is that it is Farah in that shot in episode 4 and she played a role in the rescuing of Bloom as @lesbianologist suggests. The second is that production realized they could maybe save time/effort by just taking the shot of Farah standing in the wreckage and blur it & change the lighting, thinking that we wouldn’t investigate enough to know the difference. That being said, I don’t think that the second answer discredits the first.
So, next part I want to deep dive into is the “i think farah rescued bloom, not rosalind” theory ( @lesbianologist ). There were a couple lines of dialogue in the last episode that have always bothered me because I could never figure out what the implication was behind them:
Bloom: “You hid me from Miss Dowling.” ….
Rosalind: “The guidance you needed was love. Farah couldn’t give that to you. Vanessa and Michael could.”
In my own theory post, I said this “I’m also really interested in the direct comparison between Farah and Bloom’s adoptive parents – if Bloom hadn’t gone to them, she would have gone to Farah? It almost seems as though the direct comparison implies that.”
But I just couldn’t figure out the how of it all. The Farah as Bloom’s mother theories are cute and I will read fic about them but I’ve never seen them going that way in canon. Because a) we’ve seen what Farah looks like around the time Bloom is born and while the jacket is puffy yes, I find it hard to believe that she could have recently given birth. b) the references to the Dragon Flame and that Bloom was kidnapped by witches have me convinced they will be going the Domino route for Bloom’s backstory (link given to the wiki for anyone not familiar with the original cartoons).
So, if Farah did play a role in rescuing Bloom at Aster Dell, then I think it could definitely explain that exchange between Bloom and Rosalind. Maybe Rosalind was a part of Bloom’s rescue too and she later thinks that Farah couldn’t raise Bloom, so off to Earth and Vanessa and Michael she goes! And the mention of Farah is important in that exchange because later Rosalind mentions something abt taking Bloom to Earth because she would be safe from burned ones there. That reason is strong enough to stand on its own, so why bring up Farah unless there’s more going on.
The one thing that gives me pause is how shocked Farah seems when Bloom brings up Aster Dell and her connection to it. The shock could just come from hearing Bloom bring it up or other things. But how Farah phrases one of her lines is interesting:
Farah: “If Aster Dell is where you’re from . . .” - The “if” is the part I’m focused on here. Because it suggests that Farah doesn’t really know about Bloom’s origins. Could she be lying to Bloom and she does know that she picked her up from the wreckage of Aster Dell and just doesn’t want to admit to it in the moment? Maybe. I’ve also seen theories that if Rosalind has the power to implant memories then maybe she can also take them away, and so maybe Farah did rescue Bloom and then Rosalind stole both Bloom and Farah’s memories?
The question I keep coming back to is how much of our disbelief do the writers want us to suspend. There’s a lot about what happened after Aster Dell that we just don’t know but I’d never questioned the Beatrix and Bloom aspect too hard. As in, I know we’re dealing with magic but am I really supposed to believe that Rosalind could just go into the wreckage of Aster Dell and walk out with two babies and nobody else there would notice that ??? To me, it makes more logic if like @lesbianologist suggests the rest of them, or Farah at the very least, also played a role in the rescue.
That being said I do think Rosalind was the one who took Bloom to Earth and not Farah. Rosalind is a liar for sure, but she also knows things about Bloom that Farah doesn’t - the dragon flame and being kidnapped by blood witches. And I believe those things to be true because it does mirror the original cartoon.
Also, in that scene in episode 5 between Bloom and Farah, Bloom says “Why did [Rosalind] put me in the human world?”. Farah doesn’t say anything here to contradict that. Though if anyone wants to go with the theory that Farah was the one who took her to Earth, you could argue that with the burned ones around Farah didn’t have time to get into what happened. Though, when the danger is over in episode 6, if Farah was the one who took Bloom to Earth then I would have thought during their conversation would have be a good time to tell her. But you could probably counterargue that too!
Again, there’s a lot here that's vague for this exact reason! They want us theorizing! I really adored reading @lesbianologist ‘s theory and appreciated all of the effort that went into it. I’ve offered some of my own thoughts but I really have no idea where the writers are planning to take this! I’m very interested to see what we’ll find out as it relates to this theory.
And I think we will get some answers to how Farah found Bloom sooner than we think. The Fate Prequel Book is coming out in August and here’s some of the description for it:
Tumblr media
Prequel or any kind of accompanying books occupy an interesting place in canon but I am looking forward to seeing what new stuff we find out here. My guess is they won’t drop anything major (wanting to save the big reveals for the screen) but we may get some new interesting clues and hints to help continue theorizing.

Hello, may I make a very Persona 4 quotes request? Can you do AU where the Investigation Team (excluding Teddie) instead of having Shadow selves they have to confront, have Persona 5 Style awakenings? Can you do make quotes of what their Shadows say to them in their heads before they tear off a mask?
Since Persona 5 has a completely different premise than Persona 4, this was really hard. I tried to stick to what was going on in the character’s lives, but for them to get a P5 style awakening, the game would need to have a different plot, the characters would need backstory changes, and the Palace rulers would be characters that don’t exist (with the exception of maybe Adachi, Namatame, and Mitsuo). These aren’t great, but they’re the best I could come up with. I hope they aren’t too cringy!
Rise
Tumblr media
The idol world is...not great in the Persona universe. Rise often implies that she was sexualized while working in the industry, and in Persona 4 Dancing she gets mad that idols are being treated as dolls rather than human beings. Dancing talks about how these girls are trained to create an entirely new persona because that’s what sells. That’s what people want to see. In this AU, Rise would be standing up to someone who represents the idol world.
“They only view you as something to be toyed with...To them, you’re nothing more than a beautiful doll...But I see the porcelain is starting to crack...Will you embrace the role of a marionette designed for the entertainment of others? Or will you cut the strings that tell you how to live?...Such passion... I am thou, thou art I...It is time you take back the throne.”
P4 Dancing gave me the idea of going with a doll theme. It also matched with the idea of being a marionette controlled by the idol world. The throne part is a reference to her Persona who was known for being a beloved queen.
Naoto
Tumblr media
Naoto knew she wouldn’t be respected as a detective because of who she is, so she pretended to be a boy. But as her Shadow said, no matter how mature she acts, she couldn’t pretend to be an adult. Naoto was still talked down to because of her age. The Inaba police found it insulting that a child was brought in to help them with their jobs. They didn’t care how many cases she solved or how many times she’s proved herself as a talented detective. They refused to look at her as a colleague. They also disliked her methods and acted as if they knew better. Although the Inaba Police aren’t the first people to act this way towards her, in this AU the Palace ruler Naoto is standing up to would be someone from the Inaba Police. The story takes place in Inaba, so that’s what makes sense to me.
“Are you done hiding behind the guise of the Detective Prince?...Are you done living a lie?...I see. Then let us forge a contract. I am thou, thou art I...With your skills and this power, you will finally reveal the secrets behind this case...No longer shall you hesitate, doubt, or deceive.”
Chie
Tumblr media
Chie doesn’t have anyone specific to stand up to, so I think her awakening would be similar to Ren’s. Like Ren, I think Chie would awaken to her Persona to protect another party member (I assume Yu, Yosuke, and Teddie) in whoever’s Palace they’re in. Chie’s whole thing is protecting people, so this idea actually fits pretty well.
“Your friends...They’re in danger...Will you stand there and watch?...Will you run away to protect yourself?...Or will you save the lives of those whom you hold dear...I thought as much...Very well...I am thou, thou art I...Accept this contract...Follow your heart.”
As for everyone else, I won’t be posting their awakenings. I did write them, but they kind of really suck. If you want to see what I came up with, DM me, and I’ll send them to you. Even though I won’t post their actual awakenings, I’ll talk about the concepts I used.
Kanji
I don’t know what the lead up to Kanji’s awakening would be. It depends on who the Palace ruler is and how it would relate to Kanji. Because of that, I wrote Kanji’s awakening similar to Makoto’s: less about who he’s standing up to and more about what he’s standing up to if that makes sense.
Yosuke
Yosuke would be standing up to someone who represents the people in Inaba who treat his family poorly or employees at Junes who take advantage of him. I took the taking advantage of route when I wrote it his awakening.
Yu
Since he’s the protag, Yu has to have his awakening at the start of the game, but I don’t think he has the “will of rebellion” then or most of Persona 4. There’s actually a few dialogue options Yu has stating that you shouldn't or can’t do anything to change the way things are. I still wrote an awakening though, and I centered it around people pleasing. Yu is very much a people pleaser, and it is extremely unhealthy. Although this awakening wouldn’t actually happen, I still wanted to figure something out for him, so that’s what I went with.
Yukiko
Unfortunately, I couldn’t come up with anything for Yukiko. My first instinct was to make her awakening about the inn, but nobody at the inn is forcing her to take it over. They kinda figured she didn’t want to, and they were fine with it. Everyone in town just assumed she would take it over, including herself.
I’m sorry this probably isn’t what you were looking for, but I tried my best. This was really hard, but it was cool getting such a unique ask!

We're three days from the Loki finale and I’m back to spout more meta and theories about episodes 5 & 6! It’s a long one (again.)
I really enjoyed episode five. People have complained that they felt it didn't do much to move the show forward, but one of the things I've loved most about this show is the time it takes to sit with the characters and learn about their backstory, their feelings. (I'm always a little bugged when critics say that an episode hasn't done enough to move the plot forward, because without adequate character development, why should I care about the plot?) I thought the pacing of it was really well balanced.
….and I have never been so nervous for a finale in my entire life. There’s a lot of reasons.
The first is just the fact that I’ve been waiting for this show for a whole year, and the anticipation and excitement of it literally helped get me through the pandemic--so when those final end credits roll I’m going to be a whole mess no matter what happens. (I really hope the rumors floating around about season two are accurate) I also just feel like it’s somewhat inevitable that this is our final farewell to Tom’s Loki, and like—I’ll never be ready, but especially right now, amidst all the rampant controversy around this show, I’m just not ready to deal with that. I have a *small* modicum of hope that this won't be the case, but it feels unlikely. Anyway, guess I’ll die.
I really want this show to stick the landing, so to say. I loved the last episode, but a lot of the response has been that it felt like a lull in the plot. I want this show to end in a satisfying bang so it can get the credit it deserves.
Also I’m a whole hypocrite eating my words from last week—I’m fully on-board with Loki/Sylvie now (not that I was ever really against it)--I’m not sure why I’m surprised. They’re so adorable and wholesome, and I’m in love with seeing Loki in love. It’s so precious. (Just as a PSA, if you’re not into them that’s chill, and you’re allowed to dislike a ship without trying to justify your opinion by labeling shippers as morally problematic. Selfcest isn’t a real thing, therefore there isn’t a moral high ground to stand on here. Okay? Okay.) Wherever it ultimately leads, their relationship is still a really sweet exploration of them both growing and learning how to love themselves and trust others. Also, them cuddling under a tablecloth is the cutest shit I’ve ever seen with my two eyes.
MY THEORIES:
I love Sylvie so much, SO MUCH — and she is 100% going to stab Loki in the back by the end of the next episode. I don’t think the betrayal is going to stick, and by the end they’ll both be on the same page again, but the conversations on trust have been way too one-sided for my comfort. If nothing else she's going to seriously consider it. Here’s one way I can see that going. Spoiler alert: it hurts.
Sylvie betrays Loki at one point—and we see Loki’s growth and arc come full circle as, even after being betrayed by the person he hinged his entire development around, he still believes in doing the right thing, in saving her regardless. It ends in a heart-wrenching self-sacrifice of some kind, and his actions serve as the catalyst for her full development as well. We keep seeing different versions of Loki die for their ‘glorious purpose’, just like how Classic Loki shouts the phrase as he was consumed by Aloith (RIP King, I love you).
Loki has already called Sylvie his glorious purpose (or inferred it). There’s been backlash around him saying that, but the way I see it, it’s less “I’m obsessed with this girl she’s my purpose now” and more “I believe that she’s the best version of us and I’m going to make it my purpose to help her succeed and be what the rest of us aren’t”. That’s why seeing all the other variant Loki’s at their worst in the Loki clubhouse (? what do I call this lol) only fuels him more to find her. I think about what Mobius told him: “You exist to cause pain and suffering and death, all so others can achieve the best versions of themselves”. I don’t think Loki truly believes he can be the best version of Loki — I think he saw Sylvie and thought, "it's her". He’s decided he’s going to help her achieve the best version of herself, but he'll do it giving her love and trust and devotion, rather than through betrayal, pain and suffering. He’s re-writing his pre-determined role, in his own small way. I’m so proud of him.
So who’s behind it all and what’s truly going on here? (This isn’t really one theory, more like a string of possibilities and I don’t really know how they’d fit together.)
I still think it’s another version of Loki. And if it is, I can’t help but appreciate the connections between his position dictating the end of time in the show in relation to Loki’s role in the Norse myths, where he’s the catalyst for the destruction of all things. It feels relevant, considering the whole idea that ‘the end of time hasn’t been written yet’ has come up twice now. That would be a fascinating tie-in to the mythology. (Also—Alioth looks like a giant dog. And Fenrir’s role in Ragnarok was devouring the world—I realize this is a reach but am I the only person seeing this connection?) The thing I really can’t predict is the motivation. What would cause a Loki to want to prevent Loki’s from changing? Was there something that happened in the sacred timeline this Loki is trying to preserve? (I also like the idea of us maybe seeing another version of Sylvie behind it all, but I’m just going to leave that rabbit hole alone. )
But here’s the theory I can’t stop thinking about. There’s a theory floating around tik tok (by user twelvepercentcredit) saying the ‘castle’ we see beyond Alioth looks like a place called the House of Ideas, something that appeared in a (discontinued?) Loki comic. Here’s the wiki page on it. Just looking at the imagery of this compared to the location we’re seeing in the trailers, it’s too similar to be a coincidence. The huge bookshelves, the towering ceilings.
Here’s a description from the wiki:
“The House of Ideas is also home to a library which archives the exploits of every hero who has ever existed in the form of books, written unconsciously by the collective minds of their believers. This collection is curated by Now and Then, two of the children of Eternity. Now and Then routinely seek out heroes to bring into the House of Ideas to bargain with them and give their collections more pages, therefore more time for adventures and exploits. “
And later on the page on how Loki ties in:
“Heeding the desire in Loki's heart to do more with his life, Now and Then approached Loki and brought him to the House of Ideas,[5] where they struck up with him the deal to give more pages to his collection of exploits, rewriting the Books of Loki with a hero's stories in exchange for an eventual hero's death.”
Are they gonna play with the exact happenings of this? I don't know, but it sounds pretty cool!
It would be gutsy to go this route with the show given how meta it is, but I love the idea of it. Would they put characters that embody the abstract ideas of “Eternity” “Now & Then” into the show in the last episode? I’m not sure. Something I could see as a possibility though is an alternate version of Loki having overthrown whoever was previously guarding the timeline, and Loki and Sylvie will have to take them down in turn, thus ‘releasing’ the multiverse to its default, chaotic state.
What if our Loki’s ultimate destiny, ultimate Glorious Purpose, is to release the timelines--restoring all the variants back to their original timelines--and remain in this place for eternity, guarding the timeline and ensuring the multiverse is allowed to exist in its natural state? It seems a pretty fitting role for the God of Chaos. It would also explain why whoever’s behind the TVA would be so desperate to eliminate all variant Loki, if that was his ultimate destiny.
It would be an effective way to remove Hiddleston’s Loki from the movie-verse without killing him, AND place both Sylvie and any other Loki variants back in the the main timeline for use in future films—which we know has to happen somehow, because Young Avengers is definitely happening, and Kid Loki has got to get out of the void somehow.
And yea, this outcome would hurt like a bitch. Because even though that would truly be a lovely glorious purpose for our Loki, he’d be alone. And the whole point of this show is that he doesn’t have to be alone! It would be a very poetic sacrifice for him to take on the burden of watching over the timelines alone for all eternity so that his other variants could be the best versions of themselves, but I really just want him to be happy. I will be crying my eyes out if this happens. I’ll be proud but I won’t be okay.
And this all is probably speculative nonsense and could go off in an entirely different direction. Who knows. All in all, I just really want to see Loki fully believe in himself and his ability, to truly absorb what he said about being stronger than he realizes, and to take control of his destiny.
WHAT I WANT (NEED) FROM EPISODE 6:
Let Hunter B-15 and Mobius team up to burn the place to the ground. She was nerfed in the time-keeper fight, I want to see B-15 kick some ass.
I kind of want Ravonna to escape and be a character that carries over into the films for her tie-ins with Kang? I want to see more of her.
Give Loki a new badass costume. I’m begging. If he’s gonna go down, he deserves to go down in something other than khakis.
And then I want to see him and Sylvie fighting side by side in matching outfits.
I want a Mobius-level hug between them. Or a kiss. Or both. But I want the hug more. And you know what? I want her to initiate the hug or kiss or whatever it is because I want Loki to experience receiving love and affection from others as much as giving it. He deserves it ok??
I expect Mobius on a jet ski in the post credits and if I don’t get it I riot
@marvel these are my demands.
As always, if you've made it this far I'd love to hear your thoughts!

You know what, after talking about how biases and stuff mess with 3H discourse, I'm going to go over my biases and personal experiences with each major faction leader because I feel like it. I don’t really want people arguing with me on these, but I would like to hear other people describing their experiences with these characters because that’s always interesting to read about. I'm listing the characters in order of how much I liked them.
Byleth
Also known as erotica, keyboard smash, Sothis, another keyboard smash, BoobBoob, and Boobama. I really dislike them. I’ve never been particularly fond of silent or self-insert protagonists. At best, they signal to me that the game isn’t going to bother with its story or character writing (and that’s fine when that’s the case), while at worst, it’s the writers taking the most important character in the story and then throwing their hands up and saying “we don’t need to write this one.” Byleth feels like the ladder and it’s to the detriment of pretty much everyone around them. Like, even considering that silent protagonists are supposed to be characters that the player projects onto, Byleth doesn’t do a good job at this because there’s enough canonical descriptions of them that you can’t really roleplay, but there’s so little going on that they don’t stand on their own two feet. So it’s like having a piece of cardboard dictate the fate of the country. They also primarily function as a wall for characters to exposition dump their backstories onto, which isn’t very interesting to watch. Like, 3H would have been better off without Byleth in it. 0/10.
Rhea
I just haven't had the chance to see a lot of her stuff, so I think I'm missing some of the stuff that makes people like her (and I'd prefer to not have that spoiled for me). Haven't seen her supports or the Church Route, but she just hasn't left me with a good impression. I don't like how possessive she gets of Byleth. Like, it creeps me out a little. I'm also a bit disappointed that you never get to play as her. I want the pope to bitch slap people (except not my people). I remember her being an antagonist in CF felt kind of forced to me when I first played because her reactions felt a bit silly. The problem wasn't whether they were justified or not, the problem was lack of context given and the fact that she was saying stuff like "You will BURN in the PITS OF HELL" while standing perfectly still and making this face >:(. And I just couldn't take that seriously for whatever reason because it felt cheesy and I didn't really understand what was going on. It also soured any endearment Rhea showed towards Byleth to me on future routes because her actions in CF gave me the impression of her being obsessive and controlling of Byleth. Like, she acted entitled to their loyalty, expected them to be something they never asked for, and flipped the fuck out when they rejected. It reminded me a lot of some abuse I've gone through and it made me dislike the character. Now that I have more context on the character, I get why she reacted so suddenly and violently because CF kinda threw all of her triggers at her. It feels like she dug her grave in that route, but she dug it in a way that resembles a Greek Tragedy more than anything else. My second route was Claude's route, which thoroughly disappointed me in terms of its writing. When Rhea was exposition dumping her backstory, I was like "I'm boooored," so that really didn't help my opinion of the character. I also don't really like how she gets damsels in three out of four routes. I still don't actively like the character very much because she left a really sour taste in my mouth, but I understand that I'm missing information and that there are reasons to like her. I'm open to learning more about her, but she just really rubs me the wrong way.
Yuri
I never finished Cindered Shadows and I have no real opinion on Yuri. I thought he was a girl when I first saw him and I think he's fun to play as in gameplay, so I guess there's that. I don't really see myself replaying Cindered Shadows if I even finish it because it lacks a lot of the major things I liked from 3H.
Seteth
Does he even get to count? Like, he's not in charge and Rhea should've probably been the leader of Silver Snow. Haven't played that route yet. I like Seteth. He's got good dad energy and also he's my wife (specifically in Verdent Wind). He's got good vibes. Also, if you kill Flayn in Crimson Flower, his English voice acting when he's like "Flayn Noooo" gets to me. I still really like Seteth. A solid 8/10 for me.
Dmitri
I wasn't following Three Houses advertising at all, so I didn't know anything about anyone going in. I was originally just going to skip him entirely because he looked boring and had shitty hair. So I did his route last. Partially out if curiosity for the character, partially because I might as well do every major route since I'd already done Claude and Edelgard, partially to get to know some of the Blue Lions, and partially because some of Edelgard's backstory is only revealed in this route and I was curious about that. Dmitri's route definitely has the best writing out of any of the routes. I really like how personal the route is and how much it focuses on how one specific event impacted all of the characters in it. There are some big problems I have with the route and Dmitri, like how the game uses psychosis to represent Dmitri being murdery and how him changing his mind felt more like Byleth's decision than his own due to their conversation being pretty bad. But overall, he has the best writing. I'd strongly recommend playing through his route if you haven't just because the writing's rather good there. The reason why he's ranked below Claude and Edelgard, however, is pretty simple: I just don't vibe with him. Like, the hero archetype bores the hell out of me, even when it is subverted like it is here. I also just didn't relate to the character on really any level while I did with Claude and Edelgard. The amount of Edelgard slander in his name also annoys me, but I don't think it really impacts how much I like Dmitri. He's a well written character that I just don't vibe with. I also remember his death in Verdant Wind and being like “wtf was that??” Like, the writers killed him offscreen.. twice. In the same route.
Claude
I really enjoyed Claude as a character. He left a good first impression on me and I almost picked him for my first playthrough because he’s hot and sassy. Two good traits for any character. I ended up picking Edelgard, though, and he left a good impression on me during CF. I like that he held the alliance together and had a contingency plan for if he lost that battle. When I played his route, I ended up going Hard Mode NG+ Casual and I stuck everyone on a dragon. I did find it funny that throughout the school phase, Claude learns bow stuff repeatedly, then in one of the last months, he went up to me and was like “hey, can you start teaching me in axe and flying?” Which he had nothing in either. Then timeskip happens and he comes waltzing in on a dragon. Claude is where all the good memes in the fandom go. That said, I really disliked his route because Claude felt like an afterthought in it (because he literally was). I don’t like that I got out of the route and it felt like I didn’t know as much more about the character going out than I did going in. Some of that is because I didn’t see a ton of his supports, which is where pretty much all of the character work is. I like how Claude is open minded and actively tries to seek out the truth. So, overall, I found his route a bit disappoint but I still really like him because he’s a fun character.
Edelgard
I fucking love Edelgard. She was my first pick and therefore the character that introduced me to the game, and by extension, the series of Fire Emblem. I picked her because she’s pretty, she looked ready to fistfight god from the word go, and she seemed like the mascot of the game so I figured the writers might put a bit extra effort into her route (they didn’t, rip). My very first playthrough was actually a Normal/Classic run, but I had to abandon the run because literally everyone died four hours into the save (I swapped to Normal/Casual). Edelgard ended up carrying me through my first playthrough. I stuck her on a dragon and she killed literally everyone and everything. In my most recent playthrough of the game, I did CF and made her an archer mage dancer for the memes and that was also a ton of fun to play with. Her gameplay feel had a role in me liking her (like, Dmitri is also very powerful, but it was my third playthrough and I knew what I was doing better by then, so him being just as OP as Edelgard didn’t really influence my opinion on him as much as it did her).
Besides the gameplay, Edelgard’s probably the major character that I relate to the most. Every character on this list (except maybe Byleth or Yuri, I know literally nothing about Yuri tho) has experience with trauma and is coping with it in some way. Edelgard copes by villainizing herself and shutting off her emotions, but despite that, she’s still a low-empathy person who’s still very compassionate person who cares about others and is trying to do the right thing. She also generally tries to express some amount of compassion to her enemies, even if it’s little more than saying “it sucks that Dmitri had to die.” She’s not as open-minded or as truth-seeking as Claude is, but she still tries to keep herself open to other viewpoints and will readily accept any she deems as valid at a moment’s notice. I just really like that about her because I share a lot of those traits in common with her. I also like the idea of her being someone who’s willing to do evil things to bring good to the world. That’s not something you normally get in a protagonist and I think that’s a cool idea.
I still found her route to be very awkward, especially with no context. Like, I missed the line where Edelgard’s like “yeah, btw, I’m the Flame Emperor,” so I was just wondering what happened there. It’s an anticlimactic way to end the main plot of the first half of the game. I also didn’t really get Rhea’s angle at all. So the route just felt a lot like “I guess I’m doing this now??” In other routes, I found her deaths to be very hard hitting. The death in Verdant Wind only really got me because I really liked Edelgard and she was my original student and I could feel how much she wanted to make her future a reality and how her failing meant all of those sacrifices she made and the evils she’d done would now all be for nothing. I get that impression with Azure Moon’s ending too.
Most of my appreciation for the character does come from her support conversations. I like how her chain with Bernie has her trying to learn how to not scare her off. Her interactions with Dorothea in their support chain are kind of sad because Dorothea is trying to show her admiration and love for Edelgard in a way that makes sense to her but then Edelgard’s low view of herself causes her to reject the offer. I really liked her Manuela support too (haven’t seen Hanneman’s but I’ve heard that it’s good). I like how with Manuela, Edelgard learns why people are religious and she that being religious doesn’t make you weak. I like her Linhart support where he calls her out for trying to dictate his life and she responds by trying to overhaul some of her own systems and assumptions about him, which leads to her giving him a role to the empire that also properly accommodates for his needs. I like how with Ferdinand’s supports, he has to learn to let go of their rivalry, but once that does happen, Edelgard takes into account his ideas and roles with them. I think it’s funny that she and Hubert flirt with each other by sending each other credible death threats. Edelgard just has a lot of very good supports. Don’t get me wrong, Claude and Dmitri also have supports that are good (I thought Claude’s support chain with Petra was cute and I really like Dmitri’s support chain with Flayn), but Edelgard’s supports go a long way to paint her as someone who is flawed but still really admirable.
Edelgard is definitely one of my favorite fictional characters, and I’d love to see more characters like her in the future.
