‘Closed for Remodeling’

Vernon x reader, Mingyu x reader

ANGST! angst! angst!, unrequited love, best friends, university au

Mentions of smoking, drinking, food, y/n is a bit bitter in the beginning

Synopsis: Do you believe in the “right person, wrong time”? Vernon and Y/N have been best friends for as long as they can remember, but what happens when one realizes their feelings too late?

This is probably one of the most pathetic things that you ever put yourself through in your 20 years of life. Maybe if you woke yourself up and listened to the countless pieces of advice that your friends have given you, you wouldn't be sitting in front of your best friend and his new girlfriend.

The song playing in the back, faded as you watched him put his arm around her. You could feel your eyes rolling back into your head as she lays yet another peck on his cheek.

What does he see in her? You thought to yourself.

You and Vernon found this restaurant on a random December night when the streets were covered in fairy lights and candy canes. The two of you have been held up in the library studying for hours when he tapped your shoe and convinced you to finally get out of that hell hole.

He was wearing the same oversized leather jacket that Seungcheol gave him on his birthday that now lies on his girlfriend's lap.

"I'm genuinely going to kill myself if we keep studying for this goddamn test!" You screamed into the air, seeing your breath in the winter weather. Vernon just laughs at you as you lose your mind.

He could hear your sniffling and the fact you'd been rubbing your nose for the past five minutes.

He couldn't remember the last time you guys had a proper meal that didn't consist of caffeine, beef jerky, and peppermint candy that the librarians had around the library.

You kept rambling on and on about how you wanted to drop out and that you didn't even notice the little restaurant.

He pulled your arm and turned you around,

"Let's eat." His eyes were glistening in the twinkling lights and his skin looked like it was shimmery.

You walked into the restaurant and the two of you were instantly hit with the smell of kimchi tofu stew.

The old lady at the front desk got up from her seat to happily greet the two of you and brought you over to the booth. The restaurant itself was small and had two booths and about 6 other tables and there was only one other person eating inside. It was covered in old family pictures you could only assume were the old lady's family and a tiny little Christmas tree in the corner. It was wilted and dry which you took note of because you told Vernon.

"Are you sure you wanna eat here?" You pouted your lips, judging the restaurant and he just looked at you and laughed

'We're already here, Y/N. Who knows maybe we'll like it," he shrugged

Vernon never fully judged anything until he tried it, the complete opposite of you. Lo and behold, the old lady made the best food you've ever had.

The flavors hitting your mouth and filling your very very deprived stomach made you dance in your chair and Vernon just watched you with a little smile.

"I told you it was gonna be good." he teased you as he took another bite.

When the two of you were sufficiently full the old lady brought over the bill and you went to grab it when Vernon's cold fingers touched yours,

"I got it," his fingers lingered on yours a little too long.

"Your hands are really cold." You chuckled.

He quickly pulled away and insisted that he pay for dinner.

It was small things like that that really made you aware of your stupid infatuation with him.

He insisted on paying for the dinners, the coffees he bought you before class without asking, and the notion of doing things together without talking about it first. Maybe he was just a nice guy and liked treating his friend out.

"Babe, I'm gonna go to the bathroom. I'll be back," his girlfriend told him while patting his thigh.

He nodded his head and watched as she moved across the room.

You could hear someone shifting next to you,

"You're really bad at hiding the way you feel,"

Mingyu whispered in your ear, you met him last semester and found out that you ran in the same circle.

Mingyu was conventionally attractive and had that nice guy reputation, but when your friends decided to have a small get-together a few weeks back your first impression of him was that he was a bit dorky?

"What are you talking about?" you question, eyebrows furrowed together.

He presses a finger in between your tense eyebrows and you automatically relaxed them.

"That's why. Your facial expression says it all-"

That action took you aback.

If Mingyu across the room could see it then Vernon who was sitting right in front of you could too. Right?

"It's the end of finals, we are officially on winter break. Why are you so upset?" Mingyu asked while opening a bottle of soju with a spoon for Dino.

"I'm not upset" You tried to shrug off his comment, tried to smile and lie it off.

He made the gesture of holding up the soju as if to ask you if you wanted to drink and you shook your head,

"Y/n I think I know you enough to know when you’re upset." He leaned in looking you in the eyes.

The two of you had studied a few times together and occasionally got lunch as you both waited for your next class, but you never told him anything personal like that.

Maybe he's just really observant.

You open your mouth to say something before Seungkwan pulls him away to talk about some funny incident that happened to them.

You didn't even notice that Vernon was staring at you.

'What?' you mouthed at him.

He nudged his head towards Mingyu and gave you a sly smirk before his girlfriend finally came back and got too distracted to talk to you again.

Minghao who was sitting next to you tapped your shoulder and you hummed in response.

"I think Mingyu likes you,"

You loved Minghao, he was sweet and a great listener. However, he's always gonna stir the pot when he wants to and today was no exception.

Perks of being the quiet observer.

You just looked at him like what was he even talking about?

"It's the way Mingyu keeps looking over here, and I know he's not looking at me." Minghao took a sip of tea looking at you suggestively.

Mingyu glanced over in your direction every few minutes while Jeonghan and Seungkwan were mercilessly teasing him.

He saw the way your jaw clenched when Vernon and his girlfriend whispered in each other's ear.

Taking a step in your direction, Hoshi intervened.

"Oh my god! Y/N this is our song!!" before dragging you out of your seat and into the middle of the restaurant.

There was an old karaoke machine that the old lady had brought out for Christmas and Hoshi took your hand to put a mic in it, shaking your head at him.

"No, I am not singing!" Hoshi was yet again the drunkest person there and was not leaving until you had this duet with him. You could hear the others cheer for you and yell your name as the girl's part was coming.

The heat found its way to your cheeks and lifted the mic to your lips, shyly singing the lyrics. You turned around to see that DK was filming Hoshi who was so immersed in the song that he forgot to sing his part.

Vernon was watching you. He watched you sing for the thousandth time and was still shocked as he was the first time you sang in front of him.

He remembers when it was just the two of you in his car when this very song came on and you just sang at the top of your lungs while the windows were down. That was the day you both got accepted into the same university. He remembers that day because he couldn't stop thinking about you that same night.

Vernon glances to see that his girlfriend was on her phone not paying attention to the free entertainment that always made him and his friends laugh so bad it hurt. He doesn't pay too much attention.

Here it comes, he thinks to himself. The best part of the song- is the bridge. He likes this part because it has a quick build-up and the rhythm just makes his heart jump and the lyrics really suit well with your voice. He only likes it when you sing it.

The others know it's coming, you know it coming, and it is hands down one of the guys' favorite songs to hear you sing.

But Vernon's girlfriend was still on her phone.

Vernon notices that Mingyu got up from his seat, he walked over to where DK was filming Hoshi and Vernon could just see it. The way he was looking at you, it was the same look he gave you in his car that day.

Everyone quickly moved on to the next song as Woozi and Seungcheol pour Hoshi yet another shot.

The adrenaline that rushed through your body a few seconds ago finally comes down when you excuse yourself from the table. Opening the old door, the winter wind harshly hits your face. Sitting on the curb, you pulled out the cigarette from your pocket.

A nasty habit you picked up from Wonwoo about 6 months ago now, when the door opened again.

"Since when did you start smoking?" the familiar voice asked as he sat next to you.

You started smoking when he got into a relationship. The sting of smoke in your lungs felt better than the unrequitedness of it all.

"Oh you know, not that long ago." You shrugged, taking a long drag.

You had sworn to Vernon when you were both 16 that you would never smoke when he confessed to you that he hit his friend's vape in the bathroom sophomore year.

Going on and on about how smoking is bad for you.

You hope he doesn't remember that.

Vernon wants to talk to you. Have a conversation like he used to. He wants to tell you that you shouldn't smoke, but he doesn't. He just sits there with you in silence until you finish your cigarette.

"I think-"

"I-"

"you go first," He says.

You stare at him. Looking into his eyes, you feel like your cheeks are going to burn. He's patient with you- always has been.

You let out a sigh,

I'm in love with you, but it's too late.

"I'm gonna head home." You say before going back in.

Your head hurts, your heart hurts, and all you wanna do is get past Vernon's girlfriend so you can get your purse and go.

"Hey, y/n?" she mumbles.

You wanted to turn around and snap at her, but what did she do wrong?

"Yeah," You tried not to sound mean.

"I was wondering if you could send me the address to Nonie's favorite bakery?" She smiled.

Nonie? Nonie? Who the fuck is Nonie?

A sigh escaped from your mouth before you nodded and agreed.

"Thank you so much! You're literally a life savor, Y/Nie" she said.

Who was she to call you by your nickname you thought. She was nice, great even. There was no real reason for you to be this mad at her, but you are.

"Hey, I'm gonna head out." You told Minghao who gave you a nod which was soon followed by a line of goodbyes and hugs from everyone else.

"get home safe!" Seungcheol waved,

"Wait, you're walking home?" Mingyu stood up, everyone looking at the tall man.

"Yeah," god you wanted to leave.

You could see Dino and Seungkwan look over at each other as if wondering why he asked.

"It's late, Y/n and cold let me walk you."

This makes Vernon's ears perk up. If he wasn't with his girlfriend he would be leaving with you, no questions asked. He would walk you home and make sure you got to your place okay.

But he couldn't this time.

"What no! It's fine it's like 15 minutes from here." You assured him, but Jeonghan had to chime in too.

"Yeah, let Mingyu walk you. You've had a couple of drinks anyway."

Rather than arguing, you reluctantly agreed for him to walk you.

It was the middle of winter and the sun had set hours ago, so having some company was actually not a bad idea.

"Do you wanna talk about it? The thing that was bothering you earlier?" He remembered.

"How observant of you." You sarcastically replied.

"I'm just a nice person, but if you don't want to it's fine." His pace was slow and his voice felt genuine.

He was much taller than you expected now that you were walking next to him, and the scent of his cologne was seeping through his sweater.

Sandalwood and violets.

The walk wasn't awkward as you would've thought. Walking on the side closest to the road, you could feel Mingyu's hand on your shoulder moving you inside of the sidewalk.

The small gesture makes you feel some type of way.

"I didn't know you could sing like that." The comment made you laugh, it made it sound like it was something you were serious about.

"What? You're good, Y/Nie!" He nudged you with his arm,

"I'm only good when I've had a few shots." You joke, looking at the street ahead of you.

There was a moment of silence, but it wasn't awkward. It felt nice just being in each other's presence.

Mingyu suddenly stopped in his tracks to look at you,

"I hope whatever it was that was bothering you... doesn't anymore." There was sincerity in the way he spoke, it sounded like something straight out of a romance movie. You couldn’t help but laugh at the corny vibe it gave off.

“I appreciate it Mingyu, but I’m fine.” You were getting tired of having to prove to everyone that you were okay.

That night the images of Vernon being so sweet to his girlfriend plagued your thoughts as you tried to sleep. It didn't help that your old fridge was making that buzzing noise and no amount of music could drown it out when your phone started to blow up.

Seungkwan was sending videos and pictures from dinner, you swiped through the pictures to see Vernon and his girlfriend holding hands and you groan at how much you wished that it was you.

The other pictures were of the guys making little kissy faces at each other when a picture of you and Mingyu popped up.

The picture was of you smiling and Mingyu looking at you,

You remember that you were looking in Hoshi's direction because he was doing something insanely stupid while Mingyu looked at you.

Little did you know that Vernon was staring at the exact same photo.

Why did it bother him so much? He wondered. His girlfriend was in his bathroom getting ready to sleep in his bed and yet here he was getting all bothered about another man sitting next to his best friend.

Vernon convinced himself that it was just him being a good, concerned best friend, but was that really the reason?

Looking at you and Mingyu made him scroll through his own camera roll, finding old photos from a few years back where the two of you made silly faces, or the two of you at the prom, and the ones from graduation. He smiled endlessly reminiscing back to when the two of you were in high school.

Until he found a video he secretly took of you.

It was two years ago and you slept over at his place, the video was of you in the kitchen the next morning singing that song. You had just woken up, so your hair was a mess and you were wearing his shirt.

He hates to admit it but he's fallen asleep to that video too many times he could count. Your voice just made him feel safe enough to sleep too.

Vernon's girlfriend makes her way to the bed and he quickly exits from his camera roll.

He felt like texting you.

He doesn't.

So instead, he listens to you sing in secret.

grumpy mark x sunshine reader is my favourite thing on the planet // prompt: “quick the carolers are coming! turn off all the lights and pretend you’re not home!”

It was no secret that your husband was a bit of a grump sometimes, you blamed that on his age; the two of you had a bit of an age gap, him being in his 40s and you in your late 20s.

Nonetheless, Mark wasn’t one for the holidays; he always says the holidays are just that, holidays.

It wasn’t time to decorate and entertain people but instead for you to relax and unwind. He quickly learned that you and your entire family loved the holidays, but especially you. So for the first time in years, the house was covered in decorations; lights, garland, ornaments, a massive tree and a wreath on the door to top it all off.

It was Christmas Day, you two were getting ready to head over to your brother’s place for Christmas dinner. Mark was already dressed and was waiting on your downstairs. Finishing up, you head down to find him peeking out the front window.

“Why are you being creepy?” You ask him and he looks over at you. “The carollers are outside.”

“So?” Your brows furrow, fixing a piece of your hair in the mirror by the front door.

“Wait, they’re going to Suzan's- no, quick the carollers are coming! Turn off all the lights and pretend you’re not home!”

You rolled your eyes at your husband’s dramatics and waited for the knock on the door before you opened it. Mark was sat in the living room, hiding from them as you looked at the people outside. It was a group of kids and a few adults.

“Hi miss! Can we sing you a carol?” The little girl at the front asks and you smile at her.

“Of course! Let me get my husband, I’m sure he wouldn't want to miss this.” You say loud enough for Mark to hear and he looks over at you, betrayed.

You shut the door slightly and walk over to Mark. “Get up.” You tell him sternly. “They’re just kids, you are going to put on a smile and buck up.” You pull the man behind you, the two of you back at the door.

The children sing jingle bells, it took all of 3 minutes for them to sing the song; they weren't very good but you give them a smile and offered them some candy canes you kept for your nieces and nephews before sending them on their way.

Mark sighs when you shut the door. “You like to torture me.” He says and you laugh, “get over yourself, Mark. You didn’t die.”

“I wanted too, they were so bad.” He laughs and you smack his arm, “they’re just kids!” You two laughed.

I have decided to do a Christmas event of my own and hope to keep the Christmas spirit alive with our selection of holiday beverages and goodies! I have also decided on a game for us to play, while your order is preparing. ;)

What if I pick something different from the dialogue? This is where it's all fun and games. If you pick something that is different from the storyline, it's okay! Foals at Reading Festival: another peak on their best-ever tour

The band’s second headlining appearance is luxurious, vibrant and potentially inspiring for the next generation

Midway through Foals’ buoyant opening night headline set at Reading Festival, frontman Yannis Philippakis gives a quick pep talk: “There’s a future headliner out there watching this – you’ll be up here in 5, 10, 15, 20 years where we are now.”

It serves as a reminder of just how formative these festivals can be, and how the Oxford-raised band were inspired similarly over their early times at Reading & Leeds by the behemoths on stage in front of them. Speaking to NME earlier this week, Philippakis said that “the idea that we’d ever play that slot, or just be stood on that stage, was mind blowing. It’s humbling to think of all the great bands that have stood there.”

Foals have history in that spot (but not this one on Main Stage West, the inverse at the other side of the field) given their headline slot in 2016 following the release of ‘What Went Down’ a year prior. If that set had a hint of nervous energy as the band proved their worth, there’s something so freeing and enjoyable about their second time at it. Foals at Reading Festival

The tour for ‘Life Is Yours’ has been their best to date, the accompanying album arriving last summer as lockdown restrictions eased and a first full festival season programme returned. Tonight, those songs have played a part in sanding off the edges of a once-feral energy into something looser, groovier: ‘2am’, ‘Wake Me Up’ and ‘Summer Sky’ alongside their pastel-hued visuals are welcome distraction to the roaring train line that runs parallel to the Reading festival site. Gone is the apocalypse-paranoia of their ‘Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost’ double-album suite, instead ‘2am’ speaks of being “Lost in the sugar rush, violet sky / Beachside candy cane, blue tongues in summer rain”.

Even if there’s a focus on the new, it’s a welcome return for original bassist Walter Gervers who left the band for a five-year break. He brings a comforting feeling to an already excellent unit: debut album-era hits ‘Red Socks Pugie’ and ‘Olympic Airwaves’ are given an extra oomph in this set-up. Their mood-setting opus ‘Spanish Sahara’ still has a wealth of emotion and ecstasy in its release.

It’s a set with no real notes, aside the the inclusion of deep cut ‘Milk & Black Spiders’ which doesn’t quite land, even down the front. It brings them to the final straight of a lengthy run of shows, and the latest triumphant peak in a career of many. Who knows what the next generation of creators in this crowd will go on to do in the coming decades, but you could do far worse than being totally and utterly inspired by this brilliant set. Christmas Reruns 2023 Day 28: New York Christmas Serenade (1/4)

Merry Christmas if you celebrate it and happy holidays if you don’t! One of the things I love about Christmas is watching reruns of all the old classic Christmas movies–Christmas is a big time for nostalgia. A few years ago, I decided to incorporate that tradition into my fandom life and post my CS holiday reruns. So here you go! Enough holiday (mostly) fluff to get you to New Year’s Day. (With a new story posting on Christmas Day.)

Written in 2016, this CS canon divergence is a re-imagining of what New York City Serenade might have looked like if Killian had found Emma’s NY apartment just before Christmas. Can the magic of the season help Killian bring back Emma’s and Henry’s memories?

CS Genre: Canon Divergence (missing year between 3a and 3b)

A/N: I don’t really know what time of year it was when Killian showed up at Emma’s New York apartment door, but for the sake of this canon divergence, I’m saying he showed up the day before Christmas Eve.

Emma shouldn’t complain; she really shouldn’t. She had a job she loved, she had a roof over her head (a really nice roof at that), plenty of food to eat, a son she loved more than she thought it was possible to love another person, and it was the day before Christmas Eve. She should be perfectly happy.

But she couldn’t help but think something was missing.

At first she thought she was just dealing with the inevitable melancholy that comes after the breakup of a longtime (well…longtime for her. When you’re used to one night stands, having a boyfriend for eight months seems like an eternity) relationship, but that wasn’t quite it. Honestly? She’d barely even thought about Walsh since she broke up with him just before Halloween. He’d been okay she guessed, but…well, there was no spark there.

No, it was more than breakup blues. It felt more like loneliness. She glanced over her shoulder at Henry who sat at the breakfast table garnishing their mugs of hot cocoa with both cinnamon and little mini candy canes (in honor of the season), and the guilt hit. She loved Henry, of course she did, but she couldn’t help but feel like someone…maybe several someones…were missing.

Emma had just passed a plate of chocolate chip pancakes to an excited Henry when the knock came at her apartment door. That was…odd.

“We expecting someone?” Henry asked, already beginning to dig into his breakfast.

“No,” she said, her brow furrowed. “Just…stay here kid while I see what this is all about.”

Emma didn’t know what she expected to see when she opened her door, but a pirate in full black leather and guyliner wasn’t it. Nor did she expect the look of utter joy—like she’d just given him the best Christmas gift in the world—that crossed his face at the sight of her.

“Swan,” he breathed, blue eyes lighting up. “At last.”

The pirate stepped forward, looking like he was about to embrace her. For a moment, her mind went blank. There was something familiar about this man, although she was pretty sure she’d remember meeting him before. Aside from his odd choice of clothing, he was hot. Not just kind of hot. Like burn-all-of-New-York-to-the-ground hot.

For half a second, she almost let him envelope her in a hug, and then common sense returned. Emma Swan did not just stand there and let crazy guys touch her. She put a hand to his chest, warding him off. “Do I know you?” she asked in a voice she determinedly made hard and unyielding.

“I’m…an old friend,” he said. He wasn’t being entirely truthful, though he wasn’t lying either…not exactly. What was going on here?

“Look, Swan,” he said urgently, taking a tiny step forward once more, “I know you don’t remember me, but I need you to trust me. Your family is in great danger. They need you; they need the savior.”

“Look buddy,” Emma said, “I don’t know who you are or what kind of delusions you have, but my whole family is right there at that breakfast table. My son is the only one who needs me.”

“You simply don’t remember, love,” he began, “I can help you…”

“It’s time for you to go,” she said, giving a little push to his chest until he’d crossed her threshold, “go peddle your crazy to someone else.”

With that she shut the door in his protesting face.

“Who was that?” Henry asked around a bite of pancake.

“No idea,” Emma said.

“Really?” Henry asked. “Are you sure? It’s just…something about him seems really familiar.”

“Must be a coincidence,” Emma said with a shrug as she sat down to her breakfast. “But enough about psychos who show up at our door. Let’s talk about the weekend! We’ve got a lot of Christmas-ing to fit into the next three days that I have off. What do you want to do first?”

Emma tried to forget the handsome pirate, she truly did. She tried to forget him as she and Henry went ice skating. She tried to forget him as they rolled out Christmas cookies and cut them into festive shapes. She tried to forget him while Henry played his video game and she covertly wrapped his presents. She tried to forget him when she and Henry sat down to watch Elf that night. She tried to forget him as she lay in her big, lonely bed.

But somehow mystery pirate man wouldn’t leave her thoughts no matter what she did. When she woke up on Christmas Eve morning after having a weird dream where she and the pirate guy were in this weird jungle place and she kissed the living daylights out of him, she gave up. Clearly she was going to get no peace until she found him again and heard him out, found out what the hell he’d meant by “your family needs you”.

As luck would have it, Emma didn’t even need to dig into her bail bonds person bag of tricks to locate her target. She’d promised Henry she’d take him to the zoo in Central Park that day to see the Christmas festivities. And who should she see sitting on a park bench just outside the zoo’s entrance, but pirate man?

The man got to his feet as soon as she was in sight. “Emma!” he said in excitement. “Fancy seeing you here, love.”

“Seriously?” she asked, adding extra briskness to her voice to counteract the way the butterflies had started to swoop in her stomach the moment she saw him. “You are a stalker.”

“Not at all,” he said. “It was you who followed me here. Perhaps you, Swan are the stalker here, aye?” Turning to her left, the man nodded at her son. “Henry! Good to see you! Enjoying your Christmas holidays?”

Henry gave the man a suspicious glance and then broke into a smile. “Yeah, it’s been great! Three full days with mom before she has to go back to work…amazing! But…do I know you?”

The man ruffled his hair. “I’d wager not, at least not to your knowledge. Killian Jones at your service, lad!”

“Cool! Where’d ya get the pirate costume?”

The man looked down at himself and then shrugged. “I’ve been wearing this attire for such a long time I don’t recall where I acquired it.”

“So, Killian, would you like to come to our apartment for Christmas Eve tonight?” Henry asked before Emma could stop him. “We’ll light up the tree and watch Christmas movies and hang our stockings and everything.”

The man…Killian…shot her a questioning glance. “I don’t wish to impose on your family traditions, lad, but if your mother doesn’t object I’d like nothing in all the realms more than to accept your invitation.”

For long moments, Emma stood in indecision. Her brain was screaming at her to run away as fast as possible. People did not invite strange men dressed in crazy attire into their homes—not unless they had a strange desire to be murdered, that is. But her heart…well, her heart kept (illogically) insisting that not only could she trust this Killian Jones, somehow she actually knew him.

What came out of her mouth surprised even her. “Sure. Come by the apartment around 7?”

But really, no one should be alone on Christmas Eve, should they?

Killian’s brows rose almost to his hairline. Safe to say that was not the answer he was expecting either. “I shall look forward to it, love.”

a bright city christmas (eve)

“Here’s to our first Christmas as private investigators, making it on our own in the big city.” Sprout popped the cork of the bottle of sparkling wine - business hadn’t been so good as to afford real champagne. Not yet, she thought hopefully. She figured the least expensive sparkling wine she’d picked up at Vons would have to do for now.

As she filled the plastic flute in Magni’s hand, he corrected, “First Christmas Eve.”

She shrugged. “Alright, fine.” Come Christmas day, both of them would be trapped under the Marottos’ roof. Aside from the occasional years Magni and his mother went to California to see his folks, they were always invited to their home come the holidays.

But for the night, there were no judgmental or nosy family members. Sprout didn’t have to think about feeling like a stranger in her childhood home. Magni could retreat back into his room if he got overwhelmed. She even felt good enough to fill her flute as well.

Christmas Eve was always theirs.

Magni took a sip of his sparkling wine. “And we’ve both lived in Bright City since we were 20.” He went to sit by the tree, the multicolored bulbs on the fake branches lighting up his face.

Setting down the bottle of sparkling wine, Sprout rolled her eyes. “Okay, just give me my present before you spoil all our fun.”

She joined him on the floor, watching him reach for a small present wrapped in striped green wrapping paper. “It’s not much,” he warned.

Sprout took the present and ripped the paper off. She felt slightly guilty, given how neatly he’d wrapped it all, but she figured he expected it by now. Under the paper was a white box. “Hate to tell you this, Maggie, but I’m not a jewelry person.”

“Shut up and open it,” he said, raising his flute back up to his lips.

She grinned, but cracked the lid off anyways. Resting inside was a gold tie bar, that looked plain at first glance. Sprout picked it up to get a closer look. Only then could she see the daisies engraved onto the bar, faint enough that someone had to really be looking for them.

Despite her numb fingertips, she ran her thumb over the engravings and imagined how they would feel. She hadn’t liked being gifted flowers since her burnout. They were a bitter reminder of what it had left her with. Yet, Magni always had a way of bringing blooms back in her life even in the coldest months of the year.

“Thanks, Magni,” she said, setting the pin back in the box with a quiet grin. “Though I did think we had a present budget.”

“Don’t get too flattered,” he said. “That is under budget. It’s not real gold.” But he still had a small smile on his face.

“Now I feel a little bad about the gift I got.” Sprout set the box aside and reached for her present. She’d stuck it in a shiny silver bag, not wanting to embarrass herself with her wrapping skills.

As she handed it to him, Magni set his flute aside. “Unless it’s a dildo, I won’t put it past you.”

“Dang. Ruined my surprise.”

He rolled his eyes, but he pulled out the tissue paper filling the bag until he reached the gift inside. Wrapping something in tissue paper was no more easier than wrapping it properly, but at least the lumpy, unshapen job was hidden away. He tore away the candy-cane covered wrapping paper to reveal a cookbook. Just as he knew her complicated feelings about her namesake, she knew that he only really used YouTube to watch a few chefs. One being Roland Hayes, a conventionally handsome white man who shared her green thumb and Magni’s passion for cuisine.

Magni raised his eyebrows in surprise. “Oh. I had thought about getting his cookbook, but-”

“Look inside,” Sprout said, nearly vibrating in excitement.

He cracked it open to the front page. Unlike her partner in solving crime, she could actually use Instagram and had seen Magni’s favorite bookstore announce they were hosting a book signing for Roland Hayes right around the holiday season. It was so not his type of thing, but Sprout would do many things for her best friend, apparently even enduring a long line to get a signed copy of his favorite YouTuber’s cookbook.

“To Magni,” he read aloud. “Keep it crispy. Roland Hayes.” He looked up at her. “I didn’t even know he came to town.”

“That’s what happens when you use social media, Maggie,” she said. “Now you can make his recipes without having to have your laptop bugging you in the kitchen.”

“Well, I appreciate it.” Magni gave her a smile. “That does mean you will have to be a taste-tester while I try these out.”

“Oh, no, you’re going to cook for me? How awful,” Sprout said, voice heavy with feigned concern.

“Hey, just be happy I’m not making you be my sous chef.”

“The only reason you don’t is because you don’t like blood in your bisque.”

“True.” Magni set the book aside and picked his flute of sparkling wine back up. “Here’s to knowing each other far too well.”

Sprout knocked her flute against his, the thud of plastic not quite as satisfying as a proper clink.

It was hard to feel pessimistic about the year to come with her best friend by her side.

okay so like it depends where im getting the burger or if it’s being made at home. but in general the toppings i get are cheese always, bacon, and fried or caramelized onions. i dont really like lettuce or tomatoes on my burger :/

and definitely charcoal grilling! i used to help my uncle grill when i was little so i have fond memories of it and the taste being better overall

depends where im on vacation! usually hit up an art gallery or go swimming, those are my two priorities always

well that depends if streaming is considered tv or internet... so give up whichever doesnt include streaming i guess

yes! mostly from buying m&g tickets to concerts but: sabrina carpenter, madison beer, maggie lindemann, al stewart, i met youtuber marriland at a prerelease tournament once which was wild ... i think that’s it?

my school served us lunch family style so i didn’t need one

NEWCOMER to the list just met today! honest and polite Candy Cane Man. let me take my time finishing a task i had been doing. i "accidentally" rang up 15 candy canes instead of 16 as thanks for this politeness. he returned to the store, gave me the candy cane and a dollar, and told me I had rang him up incorrectly. also handsome

Green. that's what he said his name is. rides a bike and just recently got himself a job! good on ya, Green!

Kid Who Stands Next To Me. doesn't come around anymore. i pretend she's annoying me and she "annoys" me on purpose. both of us are committed to the bit

Old Man Who Likes To Guess The Total Before I Give It. doesn't do this much anymore since the new taxes have made guessing the total more tricky. he's either a wretched, unwavering conservative, or the kind of guy you could have a nice lemonade with. hard to tell

Lady Who Might Be Flirting With Me. the first time she met me, she called me "pretty face." She also calls one of the other female cashiers this. not sure if socially awkward and kind, or flirty and kind. not gay myself, but would prefer it to be the latter. a currency i can't spend is still valuable!

Stationary Lady. freckly ginger lady who shares my love of stationary. she bought me a highlighter!

Guy Who Works At The Dicks Sporting Goods Next Door. not much to say about him. he's just a regular, so i recognize him whenever he comes in

DISHONORABLE MENTION: Hug Man. he always wants a hug, and I'm too conflict-avoidant to say no. he's not a jerk, but i don't like hugs from men i'm not close to. that's dangerous. i'd rather endure physical contact from a stranger than ever make someone mad or awkward at me, so I just kinda go with it

It’s a wonderful time of the year yet again! Time for another gift exchange! I’m keeping it pretty much the same as last year, since that seemed to go well. Hope to get many participants again!

Click here to sign up. You’ll be asked for a prompt for the gift you want to receive. Please notice you will also be required to make a gift for someone else (hence the word exchange). Having a Tumblr account is not mandatory, though it does make things a bit easier.

Gallavich Week 2022

Hello, everyone! It’s that time of the year again! Are you all ready for Gallavich Week 2022? I’m so excited for this one! We’re doing things a bit differently this year, as you might have noticed. More details about the prompts as well as full guidelines after the Read More. Quick reminder that all kinds of work are welcome, as long as they are original. Please read the guidelines before posting.

Spring is here! (well, in the Northern Hemisphere it is) The boys are ready for some spring cleaning. Are you?

Welcome to the first ever Gallavich Spring Cleaning!

What is that, you ask? Easy! It’s a multiwork event hosted by @gallavichfanficlibrary and yours truly (with some help of @gallavichprompts, thank you!) . That means any kind of work is accepted: fics, fanart, videos, gifs, you name it! Oh, and did I mention there are no requirements either? Drabbles and one-shots are more than welcome (my burn-out brain actually thanks you).

The only rule for this event is: it’s got to be PG-13 - in other words, clean. (Get it? Cause of spring cleaning? *wink wink* I’m very smart). That means no mature teams, no smut, no M18, no ~lemon~. Of course swearing is allowed (I mean, it’s still Ian and Mickey we are talking about), just keep it sfw. Think of it as a reverse kinktober, if you will.

Prompts are under the Read More. You can use only one, several or all of them. Mix and match, if you want to! Repeat them, even! They’re just your starting points!

Spring cleaning.

It's the first sunny day in what feels like forever, after several weeks of bad weather and storms that have kept them spending most of the time in their apartment.

Spring: sniffles, pollen, and tissues.

The Big Easter Egg Hunt.

The only thing Mickey knows about his soulmate is that he’s supposed to meet him in the spring.

Teenagers Ian and Mickey somehow end up spending St.Patrick’s Day together, and it’s not a date but it also kinda sorta feels like it might be?

Spring on the Westside feels different than on the Southside.

Ian and Mickey are slowly turning their apartment into a ‘home’, bringing small touches of themselves into it.

Mickey’s always been a light sleeper who has suffered from nightmares. It’s only when they finally get their apartment sorted that he starts to sleep well and really understand what a good night's sleep can be.

The lease on the apartment is almost up. (Do they stay in the apartment? Move out? Go apartment hunting? Hire a realtor?)

One day Ian comes across an injured cat and nurses it back to health. After a few days he finds a stranger on his couch and the cat is nowhere to see. (Shapeshifting AU)

The last thing Ian expects to see in the mysterious box that Mickey brings to the dugouts is kittens. And he definitely didn’t expect that they would end up caring for them together.

Debbie wants to make a good old Gallaghers’ style BBQ. (Everything goes wrong.)

The king sends his best knight to kill the monster that lives in the forest. Turns out, the monster is pretty charming and doesn’t actually harm anyone.
