Friendly reminder to all protectors that you're a person too and you're allowed to just exist. You're allowed to front when something non stressful is happening. You're allowed to have hobbies or interests that aren't tied to being a protector. You're allowed to chill and relax a little, you're not stealing time from anyone I promise. You're allowed to cry or be sad or upset, you're not weak or a "bad protector" for doing so. You're a person too. It's great that you protect them but remember, you're not a shield, you're a person. You matter as much as the rest. The world won't end if you let yourself relax and live a little, I promise. You don't have to be strong all the time and I'm sorry if that is your current circumstance though, I promise it gets better. Just let yourself live and be a person. You've already done so much for them. You deserve some breaks and affection too

What's happening to the alterhuman label is just fuckin depressing...it was never SUPPOSED to just be a synonym for otherkin/therian that brats that don't know how to behave get to gatekeep and play respectability politics about, it was always supposed to be an opt-in shelter for anyone that felt alienated from normal standards of human identity. Which yes, does include shit like voluntary identities, political nonhumanity like voidpunk, plurals that don't strictly follow the medical model, thoughtforms of all kinds... "Don't use the label if you don't fuckin understand it" very much applies here too.

reminder/tip, particularly for newer pjo fans: do not crosstag!
for those who don't know, crosstagging is tagging irrelevant tags on a post, usually popular tags to try and get more views on the post.
Tumblr doesn't work the same way instagram or tiktok or twitter does. Crosstagging is considered spam, and your blog will be flagged if you do this.
particularly in pjo fandom, crosstagging includes tagging characters that don't actually appear in the post, tagging books or series unrelated to the post (like tagging "TSATS" on a post not specifically about TSATS, or tagging HoO on a post about first series specifically, etc.), tagging "pjo fanfic" or "pjo headcanon" or similar on a post that, obviously, isn't that, and/or tagging irrelevant ships. More recently, this also includes tagging the show (PJO TV, etc) on posts that are completely irrelevant to the show.
This mostly only applies for original posts - Tags you put on reblogs only apply to your own blog's organizational system, and has no bearing on the original post itself. But it's really annoying to the original poster if you spam tags, because it will appear in their notifs. It's pointless to spam tags in reblogs for these reasons regardless, so it's best not to.
just remember: crosstagging is not allowed on tumblr, doesn't work that way here anyways, and is just generally rude. so don't do it.

quick tumblr etiquette as how i understand it (i havent used tumblr primarily for years so if im wrong sorryyy) for boobers running to tumblr:
-reblog posts for the love of god. reblogging is how posts are primarily spread because most people dont spend a lot of time in tags
-likes do nothing other than being a number, unless you are saving the post for yourself
-most people dont like comments being added to posts, especially on art. add your comments to tags
-tags are less for visibility and more for you to organize your blog and add silly little comments. please add comments in tags especially on art artists love that
-you can reblog things more than once
-reblog posts of any age. people regularly reblog things theyve reblogged before and that are many years old. posts have no shelf life like twitters 1-2 days lifespan
-you can filter tags, most people have a specific tag for their personal posting that people can filter if they only want to see their reblogs
-i dont agree with the tumblr etiquette of “dont like dont look” but theres a lot of that over here because people feel they are out of the public eye so just. be aware of that
-dont crosstag stuff. if you are posting to reach a certain audience use that tag but the example ppl use a lot is minecraft vs mcyt. those are two different communities. dont tag mcyt posts as minecraft you will get massacred
-oh yeah you can make threats here. tell ppl to kys all you want
-also dont censor tags the muted word function here works the same as twitter, censored words wont be caught in filters
-put your tws and cws in tags not in the main caption
i think thats the important stuff for now

This actually reminded me that I wanted to talk about how Midwest Gothic and Southern Gothic are not interchangeable. They are very different types of horror and people tagging like big roadside crosses and scary churches and stuff as Midwest Gothic are crosstagging. In my mind quintessential Midwest Gothic is the increasingly abandoned suburban sprawl as businesses consume it all then die out and leave as waste parking lots and neighborhoods with no sidewalks, most people just post like cornfields and highways but anyways. I can't decide if having grown up in those places makes Midwest Gothic more or less scary to me, because on one hand I truly understand what's actually scary about it. The deep horror of being Trapped somewhere so seemingly empty, vast and open yet under the surface suffocatingly claustrophobic. The sinister banality of terror. The lifelong creeping sensation that something is so darkly wrong yet no one else acknowledges it. How visible the decay of capitalism is where it rots in its Petri dish! But on the other there's also a level of uncomfortable familiarity and the security of knowledge that at least the terror is banal, will kill you oh so slowly and painfully, like city smog leaching into the watershed instead of the blast of a gun, and you know what they say about the evil you know. Anyways this is why I think Midwestern queer people make good liminal art and should get exclusive rights over the Backrooms

This is due to personal experiences with intrusive thoughts, and anxieties about what may happen later in life. People have been talking about the need to discuss non-kin alterhuman experiences so here's a quick ramble about my otherheartedness and the peculiar dysphoria that's been difficult to treat that accompanies it for me.
Otherheartedness for me is... interesting. It's far more of an emotional experience than being otherkin, honestly. In both good ways and bad.
It's peace and wonder because they are something that is real, whether as a flesh-and-blood creature or as a well-loved concept often honored in art and writing. It's being able to look at them (or even bask in thier presence if they're Earthen) for hours on end without being bored. It's feeling as though your love for them forms a core part of your identity and you wouldn't be You without it.)
It's feeling a hole within because no matter what efforts you make to claim thier beauty as your own you will never truly Become, never be able to see yourself as one in a way that feels natural and effortless (I still claim them as link types but the dissonance is probably always going to be there and it Hurts). It's surrounding yourself with thier shape in the form of figurines, art, jewelry, even clothing (good old Mountain T Shirts before thier quality fell off a cliff...) to feel a bit of thier power and presence and hope that in some way, somehow, some of it will finally rub off on you and calm that yearning itch in your mind.

actually I guess i’ll explain crosstagging since there’s a lot of new folks from other platforms these days and people rarely discuss crosstagging outside of tumblr - Crosstagging is when you tag a post with irrelevant tags, thus clogging up that tag with unrelated content. Usually people try to do this to increase visibility of their posts, but it’s considered spam and can get your post taken down.
in PJO circles it’s always been a thing (and it’s always been bad, people have just been doing it for ages) and there’s definitely a certain level that’s unavoidable - when your series is named after one of the characters, that tag ends up shared between the character and the series as a whole (i.e. Percy, Magnus) so those ones aren’t as bad because they’re expected. However, tagging every member of the Seven on a solangelo post makes no sense and is very rude. Usually when people do this they’ll crosstag every main character, but you’ll also see people crosstagging ships on individual character posts or posts that feature only half of the ship and other characters (i.e. tagging “solangelo” on posts about Will Solace even if Nico isn’t referenced at all) (im using solangelo a lot as an example but that’s just cause Will isn’t a main character).
anyways don’t crosstag, kids. it doesn’t help visibility of your posts at all it just pisses people off and clogs tags.

Just butting my head in to say that while certainly not all do some linkers DO identify as nonhuman. Many are also otherkin, and even if they're not a conscious move towards another identity is still a move away from thier assigned human one if the linker wishes to conceptualize it so.
