(8/7) prompt: stimulate — 718 words (cheeky and ridiculous domestic boyfriends) @jegulus-microfic
Regulus appreciates the fact that Remus helped him get a job at the coffee shop after leaving home, really. It just so happens that said job has made him very aware of the fact that he has zero patience for stupid people. And, Jesus fucking Christ, do stupid people love their coffee. It’s been a long shift, to say the least, so he’s in a bit of a mood by the time he’s arriving home at his and James’ flat.
James greets him brightly, even goes so far as to click off whatever he’s been watching on the TV to give him his full attention. It’s the little things James does that always do the most to progressively lighten Regulus’ mood. It doesn’t work right away, though.
He grumbles his own unhappy greeting in return as he kicks off his shoes. He stomps to the laundry closet to chuck his dirty apron in the washing machine before finally returning to the living room where James waits on the couch. No stranger to these bouts of bitchiness from him, James smiles gently, dark brows lifted over his glasses.
“Bad day?” He asks.
Regulus scoffs before dropping gracelessly onto the couch, all lazy limbs and an agitated furrow in his brow. He lets James pull him by the hips, situating with his legs stretched out across James’ lap while he faces him, one of James’ arms curled around him. James turns to press a kiss against Regulus’ covered shoulder; a silent encouragement, a wordless comfort.
“I feel like I’ve lost fucking braincells today.” Regulus rolls his eyes with a huff. “Tell me something interesting about your day, I need more stimulating conversation.”
James grins crookedly, a dangerous glint in his hazel eyes as he leans in closer, drags his nose along the line of Regulus’ jaw. “I mean, I could stimulate you differently, if you like, love.”
Immediately, Regulus scowls, presses his palm directly into James’ face, knocking his glasses askew, and shoves him backward. “You actually just said that to me, like in all seriousness right now.”
James fully cackles at him and, despite his lingering annoyance, Regulus cannot deny how much his laugh remains one of his favorite sounds in the world.
“It was just a suggestion,” James notes, head tilted against the back couch cushions to gaze adoringly up at him.
“You sound like a twat,” Regulus replies.
“Ooh, haven’t been called a twat in a while.” A smirk remains on James’ face as he takes to rubbing along Regulus’ lower back.
“Yes, well, I’m branching out on my insults for you.” Regulus flicks him gently in the center of his chest, earning a hummed out chuckle.
“Look at that, your brain cells are working just fine, after all.”
“Can’t say the same for yours.”
“Actually, my brain cells are concocting marvelous images at present.” James’ gaze drags downward obviously; slow along Regulus’ chest, lingering at his waist and lap, flickering over his outstretched legs. He bites at his lip as his focus shifts back up, eyes darkened notably.
Regulus snorts quietly, but it’s turned a little breathless. “You’re an idiot.”
“So you don’t want me to blow you, is what you’re saying?” James challenges.
“I have never been less attracted to you in my life right now after that line, so.” What a blatant fucking lie.
Hardly a day has gone by that Regulus hasn’t been turned completely inside out by his desire for James. James knows it, too. He’s completely unfazed by the biting remark and all its insincerity.
“How is the water in Egypt?” James lifts his eyebrows, meeting Regulus’ deadpan stare with far too much amusement. “Get it, because you’re in da Nile?”
Regulus blinks at him.
“Like denial, you know?”
Before Regulus can help it, the corners of his mouth twitch upward, a huff of a laugh escaping him. “God, I can’t believe I have sex with you.”
“Mm, worse yet, you love me, too.” James slides a hand up the line of Regulus’ spine, guides him to lean into him so that he can tilt up and press a slow, lingering kiss to his lips. Right against Regulus’ mouth, James murmurs, “Real tough spot for you, eh?”
But honestly, it’s the best ‘tough spot’ Regulus could ever find himself in.

Hello again! So, I'm not sure if you're ok with this type of request but I didn't find anything that says otherwise. As a "sober" SH myself, I'd like to see Eddie x Femreader that has a lot of self-harm scars. Like, her entire arms are covered with it and other people stare, points at her, and so on.
I just want you to know that I'm so glad you're no longer hurting yourself. You should be proud of yourself for overcoming so much, and I'm so glad you're here.
I hope this fic is cathartic for you. I know I wish I had an Eddie Munson by my side when I was struggling <3
Warnings: mentions of self-harm (please do not read if this is triggering for you), scars, bullying, language
WC: 882
--
It's sweltering today in Hawkins, 95 degrees and humid. Unreasonably warm for June, in your opinion. You crank the air conditioning in your car on your drive to school, but Hawkins High is stuffy and stifling.
It also doesn't help that you're wearing a denim jacket, not as some kind of fashion rebellion, but to hide the scars that line your arms. You'd started back in middle school after enduring day after day of bullying, desperate for an escape. Now, years later with countless therapy sessions under your belt, you've acquire safer coping mechanisms. Unfortunately, journaling or curling up with a book and a cup of tea didn't make the scars disappear.
They'd faded slightly, but were still too pink and prominent for your comfort, so you chose to keep them covered when you were in public. But now, as sweat dripped down your neck and crept down your back, you're seriously reconsidering your position.
Taking a deep breath, you carefully remove the jacket and tie it around your waist. Okay, this isn't too bad, you think, making your way through the cafeteria to the lunch line. You reach for a slice of pizza when you hear it:
"What the fuck is on your arms?"
Your head snaps up at Jason Carver's sneering voice. How ironic, considering he was one of the bullies who made you feel like you'd had to cut in the first place. He's said it loud enough that some students are turning around to stare. And even though it's only a few people, it feels like the world has its eyes on you as you as you run right back out of the room, tears brimming.
One of those people is Eddie Munson, standing shell-shocked at the vending machine nearby.
You'd developed something between an acquaintanceship and a friendship over this past year after you'd joined Hellfire in an attempt to be more social. He was funny, and sweet, and was a really good Dungeon Master. The reason you weren't closer was because you were worried about letting people get close to you. The more knowledge they had about you, the more they could hurt you with.
You duck into the library and hide behind a bookshelf in the non-fiction section, curling up into yourself and crying as softly as you can. The last thing you need is the librarian marching over and shushing you in the middle of a panic attack.
Deep breaths, you remind yourself. Inhale for three, exhale for three. Your therapist would be so proud, you wryly think.
You wipe the tears from your cheeks as you practice your breathing exercises, so focused that you don't even notice the lanky metalhead sit down beside you.
"Hi," he whispers, and you gasp, bringing a hand to your chest. "Sorry," he apologizes with a small smile, "just wanted to check on you."
"I-I'm fine, Eddie," you've never told such a blatant lie; unsurprisingly, he doesn't buy it.
"You're crying in the cookbook section of the library. You are not fine." He scoots over so his shoulder grazes yours. "C'mon, talk to your favorite Dungeon Master."
You give him a tiny giggle. "Who says you're my favorite?" you quip, and he sticks out his tongue in response. "Okay, okay. I'm just...humiliated," you admit. "It's bad enough I have to walk around with these..." you hold out your arm shyly, "but then Jason fucking Carver teasing me about them, like he isn't part of the reason they exist."
Eddie takes your arm and frowns. "You hurt yourself because of Jason Carver?"
You shake your head. "No. Well, not just him. Any of the popular kids who made fun of me, who ostracized me when I was younger. I had, like, no friends. Not an exaggeration."
Eddie's quiet for a moment, and you think you've freaked him out until he says quietly, "If I knew you then, I would've been your friend." He reaches over and squeezes your hand. "I keep trying to be your friend now, inviting you to the arcade with the Hellfire guys, but you always turn me down. The rejection kills me, sweetheart." He throws his head back and lets his tongue flop out of his mouth, miming his death.
You shove him playfully. "I'm sorry. It's just scary to let people in, y'know?"
"I know. Trust me, I know," he mutters, then clears his throat. "But we're good guys, I promise. I only look mean and scary." He looks back down at your arms, not in disgust, just observing them. "Do you still...?"
"No, not anymore. Sometimes I want to, but I just do my breathing exercises or write in my journal."
Eddie breathes a sigh of relief. "Good. I hate to think about one of my little sheep doing that to herself." This time when he squeezes your hand, he doesn't let go. "You have my number on the Hellfire contact sheet, right?" You nod, and he continues. "So call me whenever you're feeling sad. You can tell me about it, or I can just distract you with my exciting rockstar escapades."
"Thanks, Eddie," you say, feeling a warmth in your heart that you haven't felt in awhile. "Um, when's the next Hellfire arcade night?"
Eddie beams at you. "Whenever you want, sweetheart."

I've mentioned in passing to ya in the WL server before but I am so so normal about the Man in the White Suit series [BLATANT LIE] and I wanna re-read it sometime soon (cause its part of the domino effect that got me into joining the wiki) so I'm liable to either send More Very Normal asks and or very normal replies on the discussion pages for the stuff in that series soooometime soon en-mass because oh my god i have so many thoughts in my brain. do not get me started about this one thing ive been thinking about that COULD be 'dino. dino the curtains are just blue' or my mentally ill brain is onto something in terms of allegories/metaphors
and because brainrot dictates, I leave with two things: genuine art thoughts and one stupid joke thats been in my brain for a WHOLE YEAR. these sons of bitches occupy my brain rent free. i have a handful of design thoughts ping-ponging around my skull here are two - one which recently popped into my head

and then. this.

im sorry this ask is so damn long but hgnbhgnbnhghnghgnhgnhbgnhngnhgnbgnhngngh
THESE ARE SO COOL also lmao poor maliz family
i really like the visually distinct angles (and the cracking on Whitesuit's face is a gigabrained design idea, well done). i'm really glad you enjoyed it so much -- the coda Tufto wrote for the epilogue is probably one of my favorite articles on the site and absolutely emotionally ruins me every time. definitely feel free to send more asks and also tell me about the Thing so i can either claim credit or lord it over everyone 💙

Thing is, AI is a nuanced topic. Most big tech advances are. I think the only one I've EVER been super close to that was almost 100% cut-and-dry was NFTs and the "metaverse" sucking ass, and even THAT...well, the former at least originated from an extremely poorly thought-out implementation of a potentially good idea (i.e., an anti-attribution loss registry to counter the damage of unsourced reposting, since convincing people outside of artist communities that YES that shit is rude as fuck BECAUSE it has the potential to be actually damaging is like talking to a wall).
There are good uses of it. There are horrible uses of it. We made the necessary breakthroughs in calculation at one of the WORST possible times, socioeconomically speaking. That doesn't mean we can unmake them. It's putting nearly every single common ethics violation in the world of tech as a whole into the spotlight, from the lack of protections against datamining to the abuse of outsourced labor in moderation work and much more. It didn't invent any of them, and in fact is BETTER about some of them than many other things we just let slide (and shouldn't). Technology marches on, in this form or any other. It changes industries and workflows. It CAN be for the better. The BOSSES always push to make it for cheaper and worse. This isn't the first time it's happened - not even in your lifetime if you didn't have to lie about your age to get here - and it will not be the last. It's just the most visible relative to its absolutely horrendous timing.
I'm in agreement with...some of the more technically-oriented circles I work with irl that it can be genuinely useful. I PERSONALLY do some hobby work in trying to make it more human-positive, for both accessibility and safety, as well as where that overlaps with just...fun. I'm in agreement with both the popular attitude among actors and commercial artists that the way corporations want to use it is absolutely fucking disgusting, and the recognition that a lot of people out there (especially on the fucking bird site) are being total fucking assholes with it. I'm in agreement with labor organizers that we need to place contractual and cultural limits on how it can and should be used. It's a complex subject!
Because of that complexity, I don't mind AT ALL if someone comes to a different conclusion about using it for small-time funsies than I do.
I DO mind when people resist the shitty usage via reactionary sentiment ("this tech is LAZY and DEGENERATE and ANYONE who uses it for ANY reason is a GREEDY ENTITLED SMOOTHBRAIN PARASITE!" - let's play "count the dogwhistles" btw!), blatant ableism ("there's NO ONE in the WORLD who's SO disabled they ACTUALLY need this to help with anything from basic communication to self-expression, or if there are it doesn't COUNT because the COMPUTER did it, not THEM!"), misinformation about how it works (e.g., the copy-paste myth - if that was how it worked ChatGPT papers wouldn't be absolutely full of fictitious citations and AI hands wouldnt look Like That, you realize this, right?), missing the forest for the trees (please do call out asshole usage of AI but not to the point of just forgetting that people were stealing other artists' WIPs to "finish" and making hoaxes and deepfakes and lean-staffing and cheating people out of credits LONG before we had this way to do it and they WILL continue to do so with OTHER new tech as well, an asshole will be an asshole no matter what tools they have; fighting the tech instead of the assholery will only let it happen again as soon as the method changes), using frameworks to fight that asshole usage that are ACTIVELY counterproductive (if it's legally declared that using your work as less than ONE BILLIONTH of my starting point, or developing a style too similar to yours, is infringing on your copyright, this will have WAY more negative impacts than positive; I sure hope the author of your favorite thing isn't the type to go full Anne Rice or JKR; plus even when ignoring the assistive usage of AI as we very much should not, GPT detectors throw a lot of false positives at non-native English speakers, so crackdowns against its usage end up hurting a lot of very vulnerable people far more than they hurt the people using it to do actual tangible harm), or just plain using it as an excuse to bully random other people who individually have about as much power to impact The Issue as dropping a soggy pea on the floor does.
...I also mind when people go full There Is No War In Ba Sing Se about it, but that's not a problem I encounter as much here on tumblr.

Hii this might be a lot to ask but I haven’t been able to keep up with all their content so I don’t know about most of the bingo card🤣 is it okay if you mention from which ep each thing that was crossed or like post a snippet of it? Thanks!
hi anon!! im not gonna lie i had to dive DEEP into my blog to find the reasonings behind some of the crossed out ones because i simply did not remember a lot of them since there are SO many moments and theyre just crazy in love idk what to tell you.
also shoutout to @littlekingbergara for helping me out GIVE HER ALL THE LOVE they're my boo <3
so im gonna go row by row for these reasonings!!
Tumblr media
1. cute instastories: not sure when the date or time was, but this was when shane uploaded an instastory of him and ryan playing pool in chicago!! either that, or maybe it's another instastory and it's slipping my mind, regardless they post about each other a lot :D
2. shane "heart eyes" madej: ok so let's be real... heart eyes madej is just a constant at this point LSDKJF. but the moment i marked were these: the zoom screenshot was in a ww+ 103 and in the most recent season of top 5 beatdown!! the zoom one is so cute because ryan was ranting about annoying people in movie theaters and shane was just So Fond
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3. the mamma mia mentions were in ww+ 116 :D
4. another weird thing in common: i recently marked it off it in this post right here about the butterfinger moments if you wanna take a quick look
5. blatant flirting on camera: THE ENTIRETY OF BERRY BOYS 2 EPISODE!!! literally that video IS SO MUCH I STG!!! i cant watch it again without collapsing into a million little piece it was JUST OOZING WITH LOVE AND FLIRTING LIKE WTH!!
6. ryan accidentally making a sexual joke about him and shane: WHEW this one was a DOOZY when this came out SLDKJF it was in ww+ 113 where ryan jokes about shane 'dominance humping' him in the office,,,, you read that correctly and yes it did happen DFGFJG here's the clip of that moment :D
7. denny's hug: it was in the top 5 beatdown chain restaurants episode in the most recent season when they BOTH had denny's as number one and they hugged :D
8. an adorable hug: we actually got FOUR hugs in the most recent season of too many spirits... it was so gay so like watch that whole season its SO worth it THE HUGS WERE TOO CUTE
9. they stare at each other like theyre disgustingly in love: ONCE AGAIN IM SCREAMING FROM THE ROOFTOPS THE! BERRY BOYS!! TWO!!! EPISODEEE!!! like literally that video is my life blood at this point that whole video was just them looking at each other like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
yea... GOD anyways before i die thinking about it lets continue..
10. ryan calling shane big boy: even though ryan did in one of the ghost files eps, he also did it in one of the episodes in the most recent season of too many spirits!! so watch those eps ;)
11. they go on spooky dates: *gestures at the entirety of ghost files* they also filmed alcatraz on valentines day... so thats a whole ass date if i've ever seen one LSKDJF
12. steven wishing he left watcher: ww+ 108 and 109!! if you watch those, you can so clearly tell that steven wishes he could sink into a hole so he doesnt have to see ryan and shane blatantly flirt in front of him ever again. literally he stares at the camera like he's jim from the office or gregory from abbott elementary sldfjdf
13. shane calling ryan "little guy" + hand holding: these moments were both from the powerpoint party one-off!! that video is such a gem :') while calling ryan little guy he gave him his cape (one of shane's FAVORITE things) as a blanket it was ADORABLE
14. "shut up shane" (threatening): this was from the we try spicy chicken sandwiches feat. korean englishmen video!! ryan says this when shane is sitting on the side relaxing while theyre all dying eating spicy sandwiches DFGLKG
WHEW!! and that's it :D i sure hope we get bingo by the end of this year or i will lowkey riot ngl salskdjfsdf

😈💞👀🧠 please 😁
For you, anything 🥰
😈 Has there been a point in a story where you did something just to be playfully mean to your readers?
I love me a good turn when things seem to finally resolve. The end of the Moonglow chapter in AoB immediately springs to mind, as well as... basically any moment of possible resolution in SfB? 😂
My stories could all be so much shorter if being mean wasn't so much fun.
💞 Who's your comfort character?
Saying anyone but Lizzie would be the most blatant lie ever. Of other people, I love me the og girls from when I first started being on Tumblr, but namely, Katriona Cassiopeia will forever be my number 1 @kc-and-co
👀 Tell me about an up and coming wip please!
On this blog here, the next big thing to happen will be the final part of the Balance series, which is all drawn up and waiting in the wings to be written. There may or may not be a small series relating to another character than Lizzie and Orion, who features heavily in this story, preceding it but somehow I keep forgetting to actually work on it? 😅
On my original blog, I'm quite undecided about what to work on once When Stars Ignite will go into its well-deserved rest before the next round of work on it begins. It's probably either going to be Icarus (working title), a spin-off dealing with WSI's antagonist, or a very personal novel called Lemons.
🧠 Pick a character, and I'll tell you my favorite headcanon for them.
Fandom: Less a headcanon but a behind-the-scenes - Lizzie can do/has lots of traits in the very beginning of Art of Balance that seem superfluous to mention/don't really fit her as a character anymore. That's because when I started out, I intended to make her as close to game-MC as possible while still cutting out the Cursed-Vaults storyline. I'd do it differently, these days.
Original: For a while, Ev and Leon were good friends. Best friends, actually, or so Ev thought. Their friendship didn't exactly bring the best out in Leon, so he gradually removed himself from that friendship, letting it settle on a more professional level. He wouldn't admit it to himself, but Ev never quite got over that, laying their groundwork for the one-sided rivalry that would later develop between them.

I love the official Touhou print works so much 'cuz not only are they genuinely hilarious and interesting, but every now and again, you'll get a scene where it's really clear that ZUN is just fed up with some issue plaguing the world. For example, this bit from Forbidden Scrollery:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's almost like ZUN is tired of people cherry picking articles to assume the worst and all the "news" outlets that'll capitalize off of this to spread fearmongering, but I could TOTALLY never tell from reading this. It's not like ZUN blatantly wears his politics on his sleeve when writing, y'know.
The absolute best and funniest example of this, though, is Alternative Facts in Eastern Utopia.
Tumblr media
This book spends its entire page count demonstrating the dangers of tabloids that exaggerate and lie about what they're reporting on get more sales, and it even thoroughly dismantles multiple conservative talking points. Throughout this book, you can find Aya making such gems as claiming outsiders are trying to destroy Gensokyo through immigration, adding pinups of herself and other tengu to make the magazine sell more, commenting on one of Hatate's articles and blacking out blocks of text to change the message entirely, and even reporting on one of Miko's sermons but replacing the entire thing with a certain speech given by a certain ruler of a certain overseas nation. By the end of the book, she's thoroughly shut down in every interview she tries to have, and not only does she cancel the tabloid, but she even issues numerous corrections on what she wrote and caps the whole thing off with a letter of apology and self-reflection. Hell, the book's even called Alternative Facts. It doesn't get more blatant that that. It's a phenomenal read (though it will cause untold amounts of psychic damage) and one of my favorite official print works. Generally, the fastest way to know if you can trust a Touhou fan is to ask them their opinion on this particular book.
Anyways, this all goes to say that I fucking love ZUN's writing, and more people should read the print works.

The Daleks
The second serial of the First Doctor era. What an introduction to what will become one of the most prolific villans in Doctor Who history. The Daleks here are immaculate. Coming in as a NuWho fan, this episode is easily one of the most startling as NuWho doesn't have much content on Skarro. And the stuff we do have is mostly all desolate wastes. But here, this isn't the case. That's the theme for this review. Things that aren't the case at the start of this franchise.
The Doctor starts this episode by being a petulant child (how youthful). Even if i gave him the courtesy of saying he didn't know the planet was filled to the brim with toxic radiation, it doesn't excuse breaking his TARDIS to pretend like they have no choice but to stay here. This lie still eats at me a little because things could have gone much worse for everyone involved.
The Doctor gaslighting barbara, saying she definitely didn't get grabbed in the forest, irks me. You are a SPACE MAN, in an IMPOSSIBLE SHIP. Impossible things happen every day for you, and you can't believe that MAYBE something else still lives in that forest despite its current state? It's just blatant ignorance.
Susan holds a key role in this episode that saves the lives of everyone aboard the TARDIS. And her actress Carol Ann Ford immaculatly expressed the stress she is under in every way imaginable.
I didn't expect the Thal to be here. They are a breath of fresh air. I love their unified and distinct look and body language. The way they stick together even when they have doubts about their capabilities speaks volumes for their bravery.
The doctor in this episode has never encountered creatures like the daleks before. So, for his timeline, this is his first encounter with them. It's crucial to his relationship with them because this ISN'T the Daleks' first encounter with The Doctor. They just don't recognise him or have data on him. Their phaser stem isn't inherently lethal, meaning they CHOOSE to kill in a way that NuWho doesn't capture. They don't have the capability to fly. They have simple weaknesses like getting tipped over or a plastic sheet on the ground to discharge the static electricity powering them. And while they have a distinct texture of hierarchy its unclear where that starts or ends.
Ian getting in the Dalek is easily one of my favorite moments of his run and will be refrenced in later episodes to come. It's so iconic.
Barbara, being a voice of reason keeping the thal and Ian grounded, is critical to their relationship but feels a little lacking sometimes in physically having things to do. I feel like it has a bit to do with having so many main characters. Giving them ALL something to do all the time can be difficult. But we also shouldn't underestimate the importance of the Therapy Friend.
To wrap up. I loved this episode. It felt fast even for a 7 part serial. The villains are conniving and deadly. Our main chast is immaculatly acted. And our human characters even get moments of feeling brilliant when the doctor isn't able to assist them. Particularly barbara in this respect. I look forward to seeing their continued adventure as they attempt to convince the doctor to send them home.

9 people you want to know better, tagged by @genetic-emancipation. Thanks for the tag! These games are so fun :)
Last song: Media C-Section by Jack off Jill.
Favorite color: i like warm colours - red, orange, yellow. I also enjoy dark greens.
Last movie / Tv show: last movie i watched was The Cabin in the Woods (2011). that was wild. i don't even remember the last tv show i finished, i tend to struggle with committing to tv series. it might have been The Lost Symbol which is based on a Dan Brown book. i watched it with my dad lol. but I'm sure there was something since then...hmm.
Sweet/spicy/savory: savoury, for sure. i like sweet stuff but only in small amounts or i start to feel sick.
Relationship status: single. shrugs.
Last thing I googled: 'where to watch Tokyo Gore Police' LOL. i unfortunately can only find it with either no subtitles or pisspoor video resolution, although admittedly i haven't done too much digging yet. if anyone can help me with that... hi my replies/inbox/dms are always open :)
Current obsession: god i dont even know. i watched both Creep movies recently and uh. well those haven't left my brain yet. i mean I'm always thinking about Repo so i almost don't even count that anymore lol. and in a totally different direction, my irl friends and i have kind of been obsessed with Trolls since we saw the new movie, but that's dying out a little now haha.
Last book: last book i read was Sharp Teeth by Toby Barlow. its a verse novel about lycanthrope packs in urban LA. i recommend! :)
Looking forward to: all the live arts i have booked lol. seeing The Front Bottoms with a friend in March! seeing Sunset Boulevard in June with my dad. Sarah Brightman has the lead role for that so..... yeah I'm gonna be real normal about seeing her perform live (blatant lie). Beauty and the Beast is in june too... The Grinning Man in April... hopefully Rocky Horror Show again, etc etc.
i dont think i know nine people to tag lmao. so ill just tag some mutuals, but no pressure!! hello @ohbutwheresyourheart @n0isy-gh0st @uniquetaste @godmortal(idk if we are tumblr mutuals but we are on Instagram ...hii) @nientedal and @elf-kid2, you guys are cool :) anyone else who wants to do it can say they were tagged by me as well <3

sanemitsu for the ask game! ❤️‍🔥 🫂 🏳️‍🌈 🏳️‍⚧️ 🦾👗🪢😬😶 but if you don't want to do all those just pick a few you want to do
SANEMITSU FOREVER (blatant favoritism) I went in with 'hmmm i can keep these spoiler free' and that was a lie ^_^
❤️‍🔥 A romantic headcanon: OK CONFESSION im a canon compliant Fan so despite how much i like seosane i dont think either of them would ever go "we're dating" in canon. They both still miss their dead spouses so In the seosane world that lives in my head i think they just do things sometimes without labeling it as 'dating' or 'as a couple' 🏳️‍🌈A sexuality headcanon: He is so bisexual <3 to me <3 🏳️‍⚧️A gender headcanon: im never consistent w these asdkasdljdas. Trans man? cis? nb? idk i just think he's neat either way. transmasc is the funniest option bc it means we can joke about utsugi giving him top surgery 🦾A disability headcanon: I think the scar on his hand aches sometimes! it's harder to write with it (I've been treating it like a burn scar), which is ironic for a writer ^_^ 👗A headcanon about their clothes +🪢A headcanon about their family (I FUSED THESE..): Despite him distancing himself from the Harada name, it's interesting that he ends up aligning himself more with them as he gets older. Minoru wore purple, but Sanemitsu wears the Harada green and has a braid like his father did. This isn't a hc but more analysis oops I just have many thoughts about character design. 😬A headcanon about the worst thing they’ve done: ^_^ sanemitsu feels guilty about a whole lot of things ^_^ defining "the worst thing he's done" isn't easy; A lot of it is interconnected but at its core, a lot of it links to this idea of running away. He ran away from his parental role for Haruki, he ran away from facing the Harada bloodline, he ran away from taking action over and over again. The Hanged Man Symbolism is strong... Even when he finally chooses to take action (re: start of DLC), it's only after losing everyone... i'm still editing the essay on this one so if this doesn't make sense yet it's coming soon i promise!!! 😶A random headcanon!: HES GOING GRAY <3 snmt with gray streaks/roots means so much to me i love this old man,,

One Piece Review 136-236
Tumblr media
I am back guys!!! I finally got out of my anime watching funk and finally resumed watching One Piece. ( Part of me was also just waiting for Netflix to catch up) For reference this covers all of Skypiea and the beginning of Water 7.
I'm not going to lie I watched a majority of Skypiea pre me stopping for months. I'm gonna refer to the bad guy as Eneru rather than Enel just because thats what the dub called him. Overall I thought Skypiea was a pretty cool and interesting arc. But it felt a little dragged out towards the end, probably also due to my anxious ass not being able to handle the uncertainty.
Also its during these 100 episodes that I think Robin has solidified herself as my favorite female strawhat and I think overall Strawhat for now. I still love Nami because she is also a bad ass.
After Skypiea and Eneru flys off to the moon, it was that small side G-8 arc which in till I googled it is like the fifth thing of filler. Anyways I also liked G-8's arc while nothing notable happened, it had some good laughs. Ooo wait I remember when Chopper was trying to act tuff and scary and you see Zoro just clapping sarcastically.
I really wanted to talk about the Foxy arc since it was what I had watched over the past two days. I love that on the long ring long island you have to stretch out the name of animals to emphasize how looooonnnng they are. But I've never felt more annoyed. I only felt it for maybe the first two episodes of the actual davey back fight because I hate blatant cheating. You would have thought I was a Strawhat pirate at risk of being taken.
I am weak for Chopper cause literally every time he tears up I either cry with him or want to protect him with my life.
I think Nami really is the voice of the team sometimes because sometimes the others get lost in their naivety or their strength. Robin is also grounded in reality like Nami but Nami is actively vocal of setting the boys straight.
Currently my favorite male One Piece is Sanji. I have no clue as to why I am gravitating to him as of late.
[Random side note Lucci's hair looks majestic. I also literally don't trust Kaku he just looks sus]
Besties I really thought Usopp wanting to leave was a joke, like I was in denial the whole episode. The scene were Usopp thought Luffy was joking about the ship, was me when he said I'm out. I am in literal tears. Chopper's cries. What's even worse is like I understand both sides. I couldn't even watch ep.236. I know Sanji and Zoro are right being level headed but I am an over emotional wreck.
Until next time boys

What's your favorite, and least favorite episodes from each of atla and LOK 3 respective seasons?
I think I've answered an Ask like this before, although perhaps not broken down by seasons like this. I'm purposefully not looking at that post because I'm sure my answers are going to shift a little. Even AtLA's worst stuff isn't so bad that I won't watch it, and it has so much good stuff that it's hard to be certain of favorites.
AtLA: Book 1 - Water
Favorite: Jet I make this choice under duress. I grimaced as I glanced over the list and saw "The Storm," "The Blue Spirit," and "The Waterbending Master." And I don't even think "Jet" is flawless. But the work it did for Sokka's character, solidifying him as a favorite in the cast for me, as well as the greatness of that final act, make it currently my personal favorite.
Least Favorite: The Great Divide I know- big surprise, right? I even think this episode has some good lines, and I love how Aang solves the main conflict with a blatant lie. But it's just so weak, and unlike the weak early episodes in the season (looking at you especially, "The King of Omashu"), it doesn't introduce a fun character.
AtLA: Book 2 - Earth
Favorite: Zuko Alone Honorable mentions to "The Chase" (it's paced perfectly and gives every character in the main cast a solid moment, capped by a great final fight), "Appa's Lost Days" (the entire fandom agreeing this episode is heart-wrenching perfection might be the one thing we're all united on), and "The Crossroads of Destiny" (which I shouldn't have to explain). But I have to go with "Zuko Alone" for being my favorite kind of cowboy story, making its points in a minimalist style that doesn't need dialogue, and perfectly setting up the backgrounds of our antagonists to show how they've been harmed by Fire Nation society and why they do what they do. This episode is a master-class in character exploration, and it looms over the entire franchise with the quality and grace of its writing.
Least Favorite: The Swamp Ask again in a few months and it will be "Avatar Day." Both of these episodes are pointless for the gAang, both contain just enough progress for Zuko's subplot that you can't skip them, and both do something critical for the wider themes of the show that really make the stupidity of the main plots stand out. But today I'm more annoyed at the completely unnecessary prophecy about Toph than I am at Avatar Day's silliness. And the scene with Kyoshi is really cool, even if it's not as profound as the lesson about connections and the tree.
AtLA: Book 3 - Fire
Favorite: Avatar Aang The ending is just so good. Aang finishing the fight by taking away Ozai's bending is perfect. Katara's defeat of Azula by turning her aggression against her is perfect. The drama and music and animation is great. It's almost unfair that material like this has to go against the other hits in this season.
Least Favorite: The Beach I'm sorry, I know it does good stuff with the Fire Teens, but it's done in a ham-handed way that it should be ashamed to be in the same series as "Zuko Alone" and "The Southern Raiders." It's so bad that there are major fans here on Tumblr who claim that Mai and Ty Lee are lying through their teeth with every word they say during the big 'confession' scene. (Honestly, the fandom talk about Ty Lee these days has nearly killed my drive to do that 'Mai and Ty Lee in Samurai Champloo' road trip adventure idea.) And I just. Don't. Find. It. Funny.
LoK: Book 1 - Air
Favorite: The Voice in the Night This might be my favorite Korra-centric story in all of LoK. Later attempts to focus on her character were damaged by the terrible writing and plots, and the earlier stuff lacked some weight due to just getting to know the cast. This episode is at the sweet spot where we're familiar with the cast and the story can make the most of the potential, before the later burden of the terrible story can drag things down. This episode is focused on Korra dealing with her fear while having to be a hero to the city, relying more on character dynamics than plot, and all the stronger for it.
Least Favorite: The Spirit of Competition What if 'The Beach' starred less interesting characters, focused more on immature romance, and tried to squeeze drama out of tired old cliches of character dynamics? And the sense of humor was equally flat? This episode.
LoK: Book 2 - Spirit
Favorite: Beginnings, Part 1 Despite the problems with the whole 'Good Light Spirit vs Evil Light Spirit' thing, I like most of the setup and depiction. I just wish it had been treated as a legend, and the events and visuals hadn't been confirmed. Imagine if we could have had multiple versions of the story of Wan and Raava, each one slightly different depending on the point of revisiting the story!
Least Favorite: Civil Wars, Part 1 This might be the most grating episode of LoK, ever. Between the childishness of the whole Water Tribe troubles and the extra-childishness of Tenzin and his siblings screaming at each other, I think it's possible for a viewer to have a headache by the end from clenching their teeth so much.
LoK: Book 3 - Change
Favorite: The Stakeout This is the only good season of LoK, and I think my favorite scene in the whole thing is Korra's conversation with Zaheer. I love a villain who can convincingly argue his point, even if you know he's willfully blind to the failures of his perspective. The staging, the delivery, the dialogue- it's all the very peak of LoK.
Least Favorite: Old Wounds This episode wanted to be "Zuko Alone" and failed so, so hard. The framing story -- Lin being subjected to literally painful memories by acupuncture -- is awkwardly and pointlessly implemented. The finale is just Lin and Suyin screaming their feelings at each other and then feeling better, something even more dumb than "The Beach" by not even being an homage to a beloved 80s movie. And even aside from the quality, I cannot abide anything that doesn't acknowledge Suyin as a terrible person as both a child and adult. The whole thing makes everyone involved less compelling, and it's a chore to sit through when the rest of the season is so good.
LoK: Book 4 - Balance
Favorite: Beyond the Wilds I'll admit that I've only ever watched most of LoK once, so I don't remember much of this book. But this episode has the scene with Zaheer in it, so that's why I picked it. Despite the fandom reputation, I think this season is back to being terrible, and while I don't have any real complaints about "Korra Alone," by that point I was so tired of Korra as a character that I bounced off it pretty hard. I still overall like Korra as a character, but I can only care so much about her pain and suffering after being forced to watch "The Spirit of Competition." There's a reason horror movies go with immature teenagers as their victims of choice- it's not like they're real people we can feel empathy for.
Least Favorite: The Calling Again, I'm not familiar with how most of this season breaks down, and I was very tempted to ding the finale for that stupid giant mecha and the emptiness of everything with Mako in it. And if I remembered better which episodes have the most Prince Wu in them, they would have been major contenders. So, in the end, I picked the one with the most Meelo in it. I hate that kid.

terror rewatch time!!! i'll be using this post to comment on ep. 8 "terror camp clear" block the tag terrorwatch2 if you'd like :-)
fitzier drinking out of the same canteen. closest they've come to kissing (so far)
id forgotten jfj calls francis "brother" first, as he starts to recount his family story. also how crozier counters him saying he's a fake by saying that biographers could tally up his acts of valor.... but it's not about that, it's not about the Official History, it's not about the things the great men write in the memoirs- it's about the truth, and the memoirs written by men like john ross are about performance and conforming to certain expectations, not about Truth. They're about spinning a narrative. James has been spinning a narrative about himself his entire adult life, and as he lies agonizing in the edge of life, in the edge of "civilization", he's tired of lies.
"james fitzjames. like a bad pun" I love you forever.
obviously they're suffering. like. a lot. but if they hadn't reached that distance from "civilization" perhaps jfj would never have confronted himself with the truth of his shame and vanity. we need all these trappings of "respectable" society to be washed away before we can reach a fundamental truth about ourselves. you know. "we have reached the end of vanity" "then you are free"
"irving and farr's bodies were put through something I can't even find English words for" so of course- the evil savages must be blamed. but no, lieutenant hodgson- this was a crime done by English hands.
hickey SPINNING A WHOLE YARN which he used to commit an act of unspeakable cruelty towards the inuit family...... man you should've been an actor. also the clear anger on his face when jopson interrupts him and the way he TRIES TO SPIN THE CAPTAIN'S SUMMONING as something he was already gonna do anyway..... you're so fucking terrible.
"they're going to build a proper perimeter with or without us" poor ned being caught between a rock and a hard place. "they ARE us edward" no they're not..... they've never been.... you've never acted like they were.... and sergeant tozer needs to keep his men safe....
bridglar :-(((( clinging desperately to the idea that each will be fine....
the scene with the netsilik party is so heartbreaking. nive nielsen is outstanding.
des voeux you are such an insane despicable little shithead. also easily my favorite terror tertiary character. transparent fucking liar.
sol's smile bc its just such a blatant lie and then "damn it all". yes sol you just did.
hodgson being like "well maybe I fucked it up. maybe I just helped to kill a bunch of innocent people" i mean yes hodge you did. also "all we have are our instincts and training" is imo a line that tells us a lot about ned. and then he relays the story about like his relative and the supposed attack by the "savage" comanche as a way to reassure himself.
and poor ned. they're already armed, they're not gonna fucking relinquish their weapons. all he can do is kinda sign off on it to preserve some sense of order- a SENSE of order, but no, not actual order- that was long gone.
when collins is high walking through the camp he reaches out to hug another guy.... I feel like he's so desperate for a chance to connect with another human being, to feel fully human again :-(
goodsir and silna.... goodsir desperately clinging the idea that this isn't who they are, this isn't what they are.....
billy is already looking half fucking dead here. "you'll have the entire rest of your long lives...." but I mean. do we think at this point billy was already aware that he wasn't long for this world? like. his symptoms were only really REALLY bad later but he was clearly already sick. and they hadn't planned on taking goodsir afaik. or were they already sure they'd kidnap him?
godddd hodge and little during irving's autopsy. and I must once again advance my idea that there's a parallel between "worst kind of sorry" and "worst kind of second"
"put one of the mates in charge of the armory" and jfj instantly going "des voeux" like. there was some trust there!!!! and oh boy it was entirely unearned. I mean. maybe not entirely but at that point charles was NOT IT.
HICKEY JUST LYING THERE WITH HIS HAND ALMOST REACHING INTO HIS PRICK AND HIS ARM CUSHIONING HIS HEAD LIKE HES SOME KIND OF PLAYBOY COVER GIRL. BEATIFIC SMILE AND FUCKY EYES. SORRY HE JUST SERVES TOO MUCH CUNT.
"He would have burned through you like fuel, lied to you and used you to your last muscle" and well. turns out crozier was right.
the expression on sol's face when they realize actually hickey killed irving. very interesting. but it's kind of a sunken cost fallacy right??? he's already invested too much on this damn mutiny to back off now. and besides- if he stays there, he'll be executed. so yeah this guy you trusted just killed two other guys in cold blood but you can't back out now so.
E.C'S SHITTY LITTLE IRISH ACCENT OH MY GOD. HE SAID I NEED TO SERVE CUNT IN MY EXECUTION AND HE DID.
"edward, that's your name, isn't it? edward" aaaaaaa this is so cool and so important. ranks don't matter anything now. not a goddamn thing. also tommy saving his love ❤️
the look of terror on sol's face as he watches collins' soul be consumed by tuunbaq. DAVID WALMSLEY THE ACTOR THAT YOU ARE

one piece fights and the meaning behind them: an interpretation (part one)
Note: This is solely my perspective on the fights that left an impact on me. Take what resonates with you. May contain spoilers. Scroll with caution!
Luffy vs. Arlong
Tumblr media
Nami's room in Arlong Park symbolizes the chains that bind her, a reminder that Arlong is only using her talents for his ambition, like a bird inside a cage. Luffy destroying that room and defeating Arlong means Nami gaining her freedom.
In addition, Nami does go out and steal treasure from other pirates, however, she still needs to go back to that room--like a trained bird conditioned to return to their cage. It's not true freedom.
The fight could also reflect the shift on Nami’s perspective about pirates. In her introduction, she hates pirates in connection to her past but the more time she spent with Luffy, she realizes that as a pirate, he is different. Luffy destroying that room = eliminating the stereotypical bias fueled by hatred.
"I don't know how to use swords. I don't know how to sail the oceans. I can't cook. I can't lie, either. I'm confident that I can't live without help." - Luffy With power scaling being a thing in the One Piece fandom, this scene is widely ignored for the sake of "this character is powerful than that character" discussion. Let's embrace the fact that the Strawhats need each other and they are actual nakama.
Luffy vs. Crocodile
Tumblr media
This fight emphasizes on trust between nakama. We see the drastic difference between the Strawhats and Baroque Works--Luffy trusts his friends while Crocodile says he never trusted anyone, even Robin. Eventually, it led to his downfall.
Note that Baroque Works is an organization composed of devil fruit users, however, the agents themselves aren’t even acquaintances and Crocodile playing the mysterious boss long before he decided to meet them implies that their connection is solely business. To this, Luffy emphasizes that he will never be like Crocodile as he will lay his life on the line to help his nakama.
Moreover, in the middle of their third fight, Crocodile implies that Luffy is a fool for having ideals not fit for a pirate as the sea is harsh and there are people like him. Gives off a realist perspective, if you ask me.
Lastly, this fight introduces the recurring theme of fools with ideals and dreams surpassing what is expected of them (or the lack thereof).
Luffy vs. Enel/Eneru
Tumblr media
Power always have its weakness. This fight depicted that being overconfident can lead to lapses in judgment. Enel, someone powerful to the point that he can play god, is too dumbstruck to fathom that an actual person isn't at all fazed by this logia powers.
Enel is known for taking advantage of people's weakness whilst testing their morals. He was too busy playing god to the point that he forgot that he is as vulnerable like the people he exploited. Luffy is a reminder that he is mortal, far from being an omnipotent entity.
This is perhaps a far fetched assumption but this fight is a foreshadowing to Corazon’s statement about the D family being sworn enemies of the god. Enel here as the false god and Luffy, a member of the D clan, defeated him.
Luffy vs. Silver Foxy
Tumblr media
Long Ring Long Island arc might not be everyone’s favorite to the point that there is an unnecessary hate, however, the Davy Back fight reflects the Strawhats’ values as pirates and its drastic difference to the Foxy Pirates. Here are some examples:
+ Interfering with the events - in the majority of the events, Foxy uses his power to grant his crew an advantage. In Luffy’s case, he never interferes with his nakamas.
+ Blatant cheating - what’s interesting here are the reactions of the Strawhats particularly in the Groggy Ring. Weapons aren’t allowed in the game, making Zoro enter the field without his swords. Later on, the members of the Foxy Pirates are openly wielding weapons but the referee chooses to overlook such, making Sanji and Luffy mad (these people uses their body to fight yet they are the ones who reacted). Pirate fights aren’t fair by nature, however, the Strawhats value impartial and just behavior.
Davy Back Fight is a traditional pirate game where one may gain or lose a crew or more. In a way, it depicted the kind of relationship where the concept of being a nakama is way too good to be true as the crew may come and go quickly, change allegiances, etc. The Strawhats, however, does not conform to the traditional expectations of pirates.
Luffy vs. Usopp
Tumblr media
THIS IS THE MOST PAINFUL FIGHT. And I've seen people using this card as a slander against Usopp, which doesn't sit well with me at all. This fight tested Luffy's capabilities as captain--and how his words/decisions reflect on the rest of the crew. The very same fight reflect Usopp's insecurities that he's been repressing for so long and is prompted by a culmination of overwhelming feelings such as shame for failing to protect the money, not being powerful enough, etc.
Take/interpretation: Usopp unconsciously clinged to the idea that he is still in the Strawhats because of Merry and when Luffy decided to get a new ship, it felt like his greatest fears came true. Thus, the reaction.
This fight isn’t about who was right or wrong. It focused on the emotional aspects, how anger and frustration could breed into lapses of judgment and make one say words they don’t mean like how Luffy was about to say that Usopp should quit the crew but Sanji kicked some sense on him, literally; how insecurities could make one forget their good attributes like how Usopp perceived himself as weak to the point that he said Luffy don’t need someone like him in order to become a pirate king when in actuality, his sniping skills are top tier.
"Everyone has things they can and cannot do. I'll do what you can't do, and you do what I can't do". Usopp needed to hear this and thankfully Sanji said such statement. Luffy is the kind of nakama that don't give a single fuck about how powerful a person is, he picks people who are true to their character and values. Moreover, he believes in them.
Part two will cover (1) Luffy vs. Rob Lucci, (2) the fight with Kizaru and the Pacifista before the Strawhat separation, (3) Luffy fighting the Gorgon Sisters in Amazon Lily, (4) Marineford.

Feeling stuck on my main fic, so decided to jump in on Supercorptober prompts (Day 15 — Coffee) despite having skipped the entire first half of the month. Just a little bit of college AU fluff. Up now on AO3, if you’d rather read it there. Hope you like it!
*********
“Coffee?”
“What? Oh, hi!”
Lena looked up from her theoretical physics assignment and smiled at the girl standing a few feet away. She was holding two coffees awkwardly at her sides, nervously shifting her weight from one foot to the other, but her sky blue eyes were fixed hopefully on Lena’s. Lena raised her hand up to shield her forehead, careful of the pencil still gripped tightly between her fingers, and squinted. It was unmistakably the same girl who had slammed into her three days ago in the middle of the quad, spilling both of their half-full coffees all over her favorite graphic tee and pristine white sneakers.
“Kara, right?”
The girl’s cautious smile widened so much it made her eyes crinkle. “Yeah! That’s right!” She nodded and Lena was about to reintroduce herself, but the girl continued. “Lena.”
Lena felt her heart pound an extra beat, hard against her ribs.
That was odd.
But the way her name sounded breathed out by those smiling pink lips — as though that wasn’t the first time they’d ever said them, as though maybe they’d spent the last few days rolling them around her mouth like a favorite candy — made her stomach do funny little flips. She let her tongue try its own new flavor again, “Kara,” and it sent a shiver down her spine and flush to her cheeks.
If Kara noticed, she was kind enough not to mention it. She just kept staring and smiled even wider. Smiled like some girl remembering her name three days after spilling coffee all over each other was the best thing that had ever happened to her.
They stayed like that for a few more seconds, already long enough to be embarrassing if anyone happened to be watching, before Lena’s smile crooked a bit and she lifted one perfect eyebrow in question.
“Oh, right, sorry! Um, I just, I saw you here on my way to the cafe…” Kara swung her arm over her shoulder, motioning toward the campus’s only source of decent fresh-brewed coffee, and the movement caused a few drops to escape the white travel lid and land hot on the girl’s wrist. “Oh shoot.” She mumbled, and Lena watched as a dark pink tongue licked across tanned skin before soft lips closed quickly around it. Lena thought she heard Kara mumble “hopeless” to herself, but she couldn’t be sure over the deafening sound of her own rushing blood pounding in her ears.
Well, shit.
A distracting crush on a straight girl was the last thing Lena needed right now. She should probably pretend to be busy [‘you are busy’ her useless queer brain supplied] and nip this in the bud. She opened her mouth for a friendly but firm brush-off, but Kara was already talking again.
“Anyway, um, you didn’t let me buy you a fresh coffee the other day, so I thought maybe I could make it up to you now. May I?” Kara motioned toward the empty half of the park bench on which Lena was now sitting completely frozen. Her mouth opened and closed a couple of times, trying to will dismissive words to come out.
They refused.
But the silence seemed to be doing the trick anyway. Kara’s smile faltered and her voice sounded higher and a little strained as she forced understanding words through a now-plastic looking grin. “Or, you’re probably busy. Sorry, that was stupid, I shouldn’t have interrupted you, you’re obviously working. I’ll let you—“
“Kara, wait. Please. I’ve been staring at this book for so long the words are swimming on the pages. I could use a little break.” It was a blatant lie. She’d barely made it through half of her assignment and would never finish before class if she didn’t get back to it immediately. But Kara’s smile had broken free of its plastic casing again and Lena could’ve sworn her eyes actually sparkled. She had never cared less about theoretical physics.
“Cool! Great. Nice. Thanks! Um… here.” Kara finally settled on the bench, messenger bag half-trapped under her leg. She was trying to blow a flyaway lock of hair out from between her face and her glasses, holding both arms awkwardly in front of her to keep from spilling either coffee again.
“Oh, thanks.” Lena helpfully took the offered cup then hesitated, not wanting to be rude, but… “I’m happy for the friendly distraction, but I’ll pass on the coffee. I only drink half-caf after 3pm or I’m up all night.”
Kara finally freed her messenger bag and wrangled her (gorgeous) unruly hair out of her eyes. Pushing her glasses back up the bridge of her nose, she grinned as she reached out to twist the cup in Lena’s hands. Lena looked down at the hastily scribbled “1/2 caf” and then back up at Kara with surprise and an unspoken question in her eyes.
Kara blushed a bit, but just shrugged her shoulders. “I maybe might have noticed you in the cafe before. It’s not like it’s a hard order to remember: black in the morning, half-caf black in the afternoon. Which, also, now that we’re on the subject: Gross. How can you drink that?!”
Lena scoffed in mock outrage. “If I’m drinking coffee, I’m going to drink coffee. You’re the one who should explain herself, 3 milks and 10 sugars? What kind of monster?”
Kara’s eyes widened and Lena’s face went scarlet.
“Oh, really?” It could’ve been in defense of her “coffee” preferences, but it was quite obviously more about Lena’s accidental confession.
Lena tried to keep her eyes appropriately, embarrassingly, focused on the ground. “I maybe might have noticed you before, too.” But she couldn’t help glance up sideways through her lashes to check for Kara’s reaction.
“Well, that’s encouraging.” Kara had one smug eyebrow lifted, but she failed to hold onto her attempted smirk. Her face seemed determined to break into the widest most uninhibited smile Lena had ever seen directed her way.
“Oh?” Now Lena was trying to be coy, but Kara’s was the kind of smile that tugged yours right along with it. Before she could stop herself, Lena’s cheeks were spread around double dimples and she giggled as she scrunched up her nose and shook her head a little at the strange, beautiful girl still beaming at her with unrestrained hope. [Maybe not so straight after all?]
“Want to grab coffee with me some time?” [Definitely not so straight after all.]
Lena laughed. “Aren’t we having coffee now?”
“Oh, so this is a date! Excellent.” Kara winked. “I kinda thought so, too.” She paused while Lena laughed again, still shaking her head and nervously playing with the lid to her drink. “And since the first date is going so swimmingly, I hope it’s not too forward to ask if I could maybe take you on a second date sometime soon?”
Lena stared at those earnest blue eyes and genuine smile. The last shake of her head was directed at no one but herself as she broke every rule she had carefully put in place to avoid the dangers of letting anyone close. She turned away from Kara and rifled in her backpack, quickly unlocking her phone and handing it over before she could change her mind.
“Go ahead, put your number in.”
Kara very nearly spilled her coffee again as she scrambled to set it down and take Lena’s phone from her hands. She quickly entered her info and passed it back to Lena, her hand slowing at the last minute as a brief shadow of doubt crossed her face. Before Kara could finish her sentence (“Is it okay if I get yours— too— oh, nice!”) Lena had tapped the little phone icon and smirked as Kara whipped around to the sound of her own ringer going off.
Kara turned back around. “Best first date ever.”
Lena laughed, “I can’t help but feel that was a pretty low bar then.”
“Nope.”
Lena’s cheeks were starting to hurt from smiling. Not a very Luthor problem, to say the least. Another thing she couldn’t care less about at the moment.
“I do actually have to finish a couple of sketches before my evening class though, do you mind if I…”
“Oh, no, of course! I, um, I should actually finish this physics reading, too.”
Kara smiled and reached into her bag for a sketch pad, two pencils, and a putty eraser. She brought her legs up to criss-cross on the bench and smiled one more time at Lena before diving right in on a blank page, tongue poking endearingly between her teeth. Lena settled back into her reading and was soon lost in her own work.
The silence that followed had absolutely no right to be as comfortable and productive as it was. Lena was nearing her last paragraph when her phone alarm cut through the ambient chirping of birds, murmuring of students, and crunching of autumn leaves under passing footsteps along the park paths.
Kara jerked her head up at the sound and clutched her sketchbook against her chest as Lena silenced her phone and started packing up.
“Sorry, I forgot I had that set. Good thing though, I guess, I was really off in my own world there.”
For some reason she couldn’t bring herself to meet Kara’s gaze. She kept rearranging things in her bag, trying counterproductively to both stretch and avoid the moment. “Um, I have to get to class though… I’ll, uh…” [Pull it together, Luthor.] She breathed out, stilled her hands, straightened her back, and looked down into Kara’s startling blue eyes. “I hope this isn’t the last time we talk?”
Kara’s smile was nothing if not a promise. “I hope not either.”
