“Where’s the nearest hospital?”  (overprotective dialogue with max for billy pls)
&. memes | always accepting.
Tumblr media
He's angry. Which wasn't out of the fucking norm but the reason he is, definitely causes second glances. Max was hurt. When picking her up from her shitty friend's all he can see is red. Anger, the blood, and his pulse beating heavily in his head. Of course, the dweebs didn't think to take Max to the hospital - too fucking freaked out to think things through. He wants to choke the life out of every single one of them but in the end, how were they supposed to get Max there? They couldn't bring her on their fucking bikes. They should have called him immediately.
Billy picks up Max and carries her over to his car, wanting to quip about how she better not get fucking blood on his seats but he bites it back. "What happened?" The question is loaded because if she says the wrong thing she might actually see him put all her friends into a headlock because it better not be their fault. He's moving from the passenger seat where he dropped her and moving to the driver's, door slamming shut and starting the car. "Where the fuck is the nearest hospital?"

COLLEGE MONEY
billy hargrove x fem reader
Tumblr media
WARNINGS: smut, reader is 18, jealousy, mentions of cheating, car sex, fingering, oral sex, penetrative sex, pet names, pretty much just pure filth at the end!
Billy grunted standing in front of his car he had the hood popped looking at praying that it was something he could easily fix because he didn't have the money to buy himself a new car let alone even the money to fix it, he sighed watching the mechanic step out from his truck and into the driveway approaching Billy "Hargrove?" He read flipping up a piece of paper on his clip board.
"Yeah that's me" Billy responded wiping the sweat on his forehead he had been working on this damn car all day to get it to start but nothing was working on trying to fix everything wrong with it.
he wiped the dirt from his hands with a towel watching his girlfriend y/n come out with a glass of water for him he smiled at her taking a sip,
the mechanic peaked his head into the car as Billy handed him the keys he wrote something down before shutting the hood of the car.
"there's so many things wrong with this I don't know where to begin" he said handing Billy a checklist.
Billys jaw dropped looking at all the things wrong with the shit box of a car,
"how much is this going to cost?" Billy asked him handing him back the clip board "i can't fix this without basically having to replace everything" the mechanic said watching Billy grit his teeth his hand slammed down slightly on the hood of the car
"just scrap the damn thing" Billy said looking back at his car he loved it but it was time to say goodbye.
-
Billy sighed laying back onto the bench in his house his hands connecting to the metal bar above him pulling the weight off the rack his arms moving up and down he couldn't help but think of what y/n was doing so he stopped placing the weights back on the rack,
he grabbed a cigarette from his pocket lighting it before making his way into the kitchen to dial her number to the cute little pink phone that sat on her beside he dialed her number hearing it ring,
until it stopped ringing so he hung up and tried calling her again when she still didn't answer he groaned hanging back up the phone and made his way to his bedroom lifting the weights from his dresser into his hands his arm curling up and down the cigarette dangling in his mouth.
he watched himself in the mirror still something didn't feel right about him and y/n she was distant way distant then before.
He figured it might've of been issues at home knowing her mother was an alcoholic and that her father wasn't even in the picture.
max walked past his door frame her skate board in hand "max" he called out watching her roll her eyes and stop pulling off her headset so she could hear him more clearly "what Billy?" She asked
"if you see y/n can you tell her to talk to me?" He said to her watching her face soften nodding her head.
She knew Billy wasn't like her so called step father sure he may have gotten angry over the stupidest shit but he always found a way to calm himself down which max believed that only because of her and y/n that he wasn't a replica of his dad,
"have fun with Lucas" Billy said watching max salute him before walking down the stair case her sneaks clacking against the wooden steps.
He sat down on his bed dropping the weights he leaned back rubbing his face, y/n hadn't been just distant from him but the two of them rarely spoke at all it was like she was avoiding him all together and he couldn't just go all around Hawkins searching for her so he could speak to her because he didn't have a car anymore.
Plus he didn't want to show up at her house without her knowing before hand because she told him not to because of the way her mother behaved towards anyone of her friends.
He noticed a mark on her neck when she came over last week apologizing for missing a bunch of their date nights.
he didn't say anything about it he just simply frowned at it but yet he still opened his arm for her to bury her face in the crook of his neck so it wasn't even really a date it was just them being silent together for most of the time.
And the worst thought came to his mind what if she was sleeping with someone else?
He loved y/n so even the thought of it hurt him so much, Billy wasn't insecure but the thought of her being stripped from his life made him not only angry but he felt more sad about it then anything.
-
Y/n sighed stacking a few more tapes on the shelf in front of her she rubbed at the bruise on her neck groaning as she stood up from her knees brushing off the dirt from her jeans she carried the empty box that was once filled with video tapes to the counter plopping it down behind it, "that bruise looks nasty" Steve winced pointing to her neck.
"it's your fault" y/n retorted grabbing the stack of tapes from the counter making her way to the shelves while Steve followed her Robin peaked her head up from in front of one of the shelves her and y/n were standing at
"I thought it was a hickie" Robin giggled softly.
"Me and Billy haven't you know in weeks of course it's not a hickie" she said defensively,
"y/n tripped over my foot because she wasn't paying attention" Steve chuckled,
Billy stepped into the video store thinking maybe y/n was at work so he held flowers in his hands to surprise her for his plans that he made tonight but he stopped hearing a conversation coming from one of the aisles
"so Steve gave you that pretty thing on your neck" Robin said laughing
"yep you can blame Steve" he heard his girlfriend laugh back at Robin.
so it was true y/n was cheating on him and out of all people it was with Harrington.
He walked right back out of the store rapidly so he wouldn't be seen looking down at the flowers in his hand as he walked against the road. Maybe he was a fool after all?
-
"It's your fault Steve!" Y/n growled at him playfully "you need to watch where you're going!" Steve bit back at her placing a tape on the shelf in front of him,
"okay so I was walking right and Steve had his foot out man spreading like an idiot so I couldn't see because I had boxes in my hand and I tripped hitting my neck on the corner of the counter" y/n explained carrying the empty box back to the counter grabbing another one until she noticed a flower on the floor right in front of the doors.
She knelt down picking it up "did umm one of you drop a rose?" She asked watching them come around the corner.
"nope" "nada" they both responded making y/n look back down at the rose tilting her head slightly she picked it from its stem placing it behind her ear "it's pretty" she smiled.
-
After her shift was over she made her way to Billy's house since she hadn't seen him since last week on  Saturday night and besides she knew that the new car she spent all of her college savings on was being delivered to his house soon so she wanted to see his reaction when it got there.
she knocked on the door seeing max answer she gave y/n a hug "your back" max smiled letting go of her and shutting the door behind her
"Billy's in his room" max said as y/n nodded making her way up the stair case she was still in her work uniform, she could hear the soft sound of rock music coming from his room she knocked at his door "max I'm not in the mood"
y/n didn't say anything she just knocked again which made Billy stand up angrily opening the door to see y/n his heart stopped apologizing because he thought it was max asking for something again he sat back on his bed as y/n shut his bed room door behind her,
his eyes looked up at the flower in her hair the one he had gotten her "someone dropped my favorite flower today weird huh?" She asked sitting down in his desk chair in front of him.
she noticed that Billy was silent his eyes looked away from her and at the hands clasped together in his lap.
"Babe what's wrong" she asked him reaching out to touch his hand but he pulled away causing her to jump back on accident even though he never struck her it was a habit from when her father was around
"I'm sorry I didn't mean to scare you" he whispered his eyes looking up at her.
"If you wanted Harrington you could've just told me" he said to her watching her brows furrow. "What?" She asked him watching his hands tremble "one pretty mark Harrington gave you"  he repeated robins words,
"I've been trying to figure out why you've been so distant hell you don't even want me to touch you anymore is it because of harrington because If it is I can't do this" y/n could feel her heart breaking watching Billy's eyes try not to water because he knew it wasn't "manly" to cry.
Her hands rested on the sides of his cheeks looking into his eyes "no no never baby it's not like that" She said to him stroking the side of his face
"I fell it was an accident" she said pulling down the collar of her shirt revealing the giant bruise, his eyes looked down at it, his fingers skimming it before looking back at her "it's j-just I-" Billy stammered but was interrupted by the door bell being rung.
y/n grabbed his hand yanking him to it seeing a guy with paper work standing at the open door max was confused looking at y/n
"it's for you?" She said as y/n smiled approaching him she took the clip board signing her name before a set of keys was placed into her hands.
Y/n covered Billy's eyes stepping on her tippy toes as they made their way out of the door "baby come on what is this" he groaned at her feeling her uncover his eyes gazing at the car in their driveway
"Y/N?!" He exclaimed examining each side of the car y/n tossed him the keys max stood next to y/n
"told you its what he wanted" y/n said as max reached out for a fist bump both of their fists connected before making an explosion sound.
"How the hell did you afford this?" Billy asked leaning against the hood,
"Easy I used all of my college money and I've been working like crazy" Billy's jaw dropped walking towards her he shook her shoulders.
"no no no I can't take this princess your college savings!" He felt guilty now but y/n ran her fingers threw his hair
"shh it's fine take it" she smile at him he licked her lips staring at her, "I'm gonna go over to Dustin's later" max saluted the both of them,
Billy got into the car so did y/n smiling as his hands gripped tightly on the wheel taking in the new car scent.
"You know your amazing right?" Billy said to her watching her giggle slightly "maybe" she replied.
-
He started to drive parking into a secluded area where on of their date spots were Billy crawled into the back seat feeling y/n crawl back with him,
she moved her legs so she could straddle him feeling his lips trace down her neck slipping off her button up shirt.
his tongue swirled against the valley of her breasts causing her to let out a soft moan,
he slipped his other hand unbuttoning her jeans she felt his hand snake inside her underwear fingering her as she threw her head back moaning at the sensation.
"oh god" she gasped feeling his thumb move in faster circles on his clit her nails dug into his shoulders but luckily for him his denim jacket gave him some sort of padding from it she was biting her lip trying not to curse out how good his fingers were feeling.
the icy chill on his ring was pressed against her inner thigh to keep her in place while his fingers thrusted in and out of her throbbing cunt.
"M-more!" She whined at him feeling the two fingers inside of her speed up curling so that it could hit her G spot every time causing her to cry out.
"You like that princess?" He asked her watching her eyes clench shut and he watched her mouth lay a gap.
"Cum please!" She whimpered at him feeling the knot in her stomach about to release itself "cum on my fingers" he said to her feeling her pussy clench around his fingers as she came hard on his fingers the walls of her pussy were trembling as his fingers pulled out of her,
her juices spilt all over his fingers he brought them up to his mouth licking them clean his tongue swirled around the the juices left on his fingers he moaned at the taste of her reaching into her pussy for more causing her to gasp out.
"we don't want to get this car messy now do we baby?" He asked her watching her shake her head she was still panting the rise of her orgasm still coming down.
"fuck me please!" She whined at him pulling down his pants "that's a good girl using your manners" he said stroking her hair as he helped her pull down his boxers revealing his hard cock.
Y/n looked at it realizing they hadn't had sex in weeks , she could feel herself start to bounce up and down on him her hand holding onto the roof so her head wouldn't slam against it each time she bounced on him,
she felt his hands on her waist gripping onto it as he she leaned forward still bouncing on his cock while she buried her face in the crook of his neck "oh god" she mumbled at his size forgetting how big he was but it felt amazing inside of her,
he was thinking the same thing at how tight she was and how good it felt feeling the walls of her delicate cunt clenching around his cock.
"I cant do it anymore I need to cum!" She whined biting down on his shoulder feeling her teeth pierce into his skin.
"cum for me" Billy said to her feeling her legs tremble in his lap as they both spilt out their juices into each other, Billy pulled his cock out of her feeling her lick it clean "we don't want the car getting dirty" she said winking at his as she slipped back on her clothes.
Billy did the same laying back in the seat against the window he spread his legs so she could sit against him. She leaned against his chest with a hushed breath.
"I'm sorry" he said to her playing with her hair while y/n fiddled with the rings on his hand.
"For what?"
"For accusing you of having something with Steve it was because I walked into the store to surprise you with a date tonight and I had flowers but I heard Robin say the mark was from Steve and I-"
"Oh baby no" she pulled the flower from the side of her ear looking at it, "I'm sorry it's not what it sounded like" y/n said spinning the flower between his hands.
-
Y/n still felt guilty so she brought Steve, Robin and Billy behind the counter pulling up the security camera footage of y/n tripping over Steve's foot hitting her neck
which they all laughed at her but she didn't care as long as it would prove something to Billy she was happy, Billy wrapped his arm around her
"you really are just clumsy"

One More Moment - B.H.
a/n: here's a little angst one shot for you guys as an apology for how slow I'm being rn with requests and a lil something while yall wait. I was super depressed and just couldn't help and couldn't write requests it I needed to do something so I wrote this instead. I hope y'all like it ilysm 💗
Pairing: Billy Hargrove x reader
Length: 1.3k
Warnings: Depression, grieving, death mention, Billy is dead in this, mention of suicide, suicidal thoughts lowkey.
Tumblr media
The air is cold. It's the end of fall, and winter is rearing its head. Ready to take over and cover Hawkins in snow and ice.
Two things he hated.
He hated colder weather. He hated Hawkins.
Yet he's stuck here now, forever.
You blow some air onto your cold hands, stepping in front of the tombstone.
William Hargrove.
No one ever called him that. Not one person. Except maybe his dad sometimes. But even then, it was a word used to show hate.
To tie him down.
You always wondered why they wrote William, not Billy on his grave.
Maybe it was because it was his legal full name. Or maybe it was because his father never knew his son enough, loved his son enough, to write the name he always went by. Billy. A way to dehumanize him further than he had already done for eighteen years.
You didn't know. But anyone who knew him knew he never answered to William.
No one used to go to the cemetery. You used to never go to the cemetery. It's mostly older graves for older people. People who were at an age that they were ready to die. But more recently the cemetery started to fill with people who were too young to be here. People who still had lives to live, had people to love, had a chance to be happy. To change.
People like Heather Holloway, Barbara Holland...
Billy Hargrove.
Max had been there recently. You see the remnants of an empty cassette beside the stone. She had started bringing them.
No music on them. His cassettes were too precious now. Too raw to give up, even to his own grave. But music meant something. Those cassettes meant something.
It sort of felt like a connection between herself and the dead brother in the ground- one they didn't get to grow before he died.
Maybe one day Max can let his real cassettes go.
You hope so. It's what you're here to do.
To let go.
To try to let go.
You crouch in front of the stone on cold and dying grass. The fallen leafs from trees skitter around with the wind, performing a weird dance together. It breaks the silence in the graveyard.
"Hey Billy..."
Your voice is soft. So quiet, it's almost as if you didn't speak at all. His name sounds foreign on your lips, but all to familiar at the same time. His name is like a curse and a blessing. You could hardly stand to hear it, but the longer you didn't hear it, the more the boy behind the name really faded away.
He was fading.
And eventually, one day in the future, his grave would be another grave with a name no one recognized; one that no one visited.
You clear your throat, suddenly it's gone dry; it feels like you've been in the desert for months, no water in sight.
"How are you?"
He doesn't answer of course. He's not really there. Yes, the body six feet under is his but its not him. Him is somewhere far away. A place you can't reach.
But this is as close as it gets.
Be always hated small talk like this. But he doesn't have a choice but to listen in silence now.
"I'm..." you want to say you're good, but you're not. You aren't sure you'll ever be good again- it's why you need to to this, "okay."
Okay was safe. It was a non-answer. A lie but not a lie.
You dig your hand into your coats pocket, looking for the rectangular item in your pocket; when your fingers touch it, it burns- it hurts. But that's why you're here. To stop the hurt. To...
"I'm leaving," you say it like you're breaking the ice to your boyfriend.
In some way you are- he was your boyfriend. Is... Was. You can't date a dead man.
"I don't think... I can't stay in Hawkins anymore," you miserably offer to the grave in front of you. You're speaking to dead space- but you need to do it.
Leaving and not telling him feels like a betrayal. Even if it's a stone in the ground- it's... He's...
"I'm sorry," you pull your hand from your pocket, a cassette held tightly in your hands, fingers digging into it- you could break it if you're not careful, "I know Max leaves you empty tapes sometimes. But I thought you might like one with music for once."
It's a tape with a dozen songs. One that you had made with him long ago, in the beginning months of your relationship. Back when things were brighter, when the world around you was colourful and when life seemed to have some hope within it.
Back before Hawkins took everything you loved.
"I can't keep it anymore," the air leaves your lungs shakily- you can feel the emotions building up in your chest, begging to be let out. But if you did that now, you know you won't be able to do this.
And you need to do it.
At first you couldn't. Couldn't listen to it, couldn't look at it. It held all your favourite songs and his favourite songs which would subsequently also become your favourites. You couldn't even listen to music for a while after because it stung. It hit too deep, bled too much. It was something you enjoyed doing with him in his room, in his Camaro. Anywhere.
It didn't bring you happiness anymore; it only deepened the gaping wound that he had left when he died.
But over time you listened to it again. One song a day. Till you listened to it all. And then you listened again, and again, on repeat. In your car, in your room, anywhere.
The songs became an escape. One where when you closed your eyes and blocked everything else out, you could imagine in those minutes that he was right there. That he was laying with you. Or standing behind you and putting his hands in your jeans pockets pulling you close.
Sometimes you swore you could feel him. Feel his touch. Smell is cologne. Feel his love.
But then the songs would end. And your eyes would open and everything was grey again.
Everything hurt again.
Because he wasn't there. And he wouldn't ever be there again. You were only fooling yourself; using this tape as an escape from a reality you needed to face. You were fading away, just like he was, but you were still living in all ways that mattered medically.
Beating heart, pumping blood, functioning limbs, warm skin.
The other half of you was dead.
It would kill you.
He would kill you, even in death, Billy Hargrove was your greatest weakness. And he'd kill you if you didn't stop.
Maybe you should have let him. But he'd be angry. So, so angry. And Max too. Your family. Friends.
At what point did you stop your own hurt instead of stopping others hurt?
Closing your eyes as tight as you can, you place the tape onto the grave in front of you. It feels like a weight is lifted, but at the same time, like a new one has arisen.
It is pain. It is hurt. It is agony. It is a love that you can't ever express the way you want to because he's not there to recieve it. It is a darkness that threatens you and tells you this is the wrong choice.
But you need to. To let him go, to get away. Before Hawkins (and the ghost of a dead man) swallows you whole. Drowns you.
"Take care of it, please."
You know the weather will destroy the tape. Maybe it will find its way back to him wherever he is- wherever death takes you. You can't say where, you don't know where. Anything could be possibly considering all Hawkins had shown you.
When you stand and turn away, hand still burning metaphorically from where the tape had been, the wind blows a harsh gust. It goes through you like you're a rickety old house, holes and all, just a skeleton.
It's cold. But it feels like you're being wrapped up by the wind into a hug. For one moment, a single, fleeting moment, you aren't alone.
Then it's gone. Just like everything else. The wind dies down as quickly as it came, and its quiet again, the leaves settling. You're alone.
Hawkins couldn't have you. You wouldn't let it. No matter how much part of you wanted it to take you.
All you needed was one more moment with him. And that was it.

Title: Max’s Rage
Fandom: Stranger Things
Pairing: Steddie, hint of harringrove
Rating: Teen and up
Summary: Max is tired of the disrespect shown towards her brother after he died
July 4, 1985 - Loss
Max watched as Billy stood up, arms out and proceeded to protect Jane and the group from the mind flayer
Then one of the tendrils of the big monster went right thru Billy’s midsection.
She knew she was screaming bloody murder but she couldn't hear herself. All she heard was Billy apologizing and watching as no one came to be with him as he died, not even him
July 6, 1985: Betrayal
Max stood in between Neil and her mom as the preacher said his eulogy.
No one showed. Not her so-called friends, her so-called boyfriend, Hopper, or any of them, including him.
None of Billy's friends attended either.
The fact that if it wasn't for his sacrifice all those assholes might be dead made Max’s insides hurt.
Also, the fact that all the people who were “flayed” we're also alive and well somehow, alll except for her brother made her feel sick.
They had rough patches but they started to connect after everything at the cabin.
She cried. She cried for what could've been and she cried because she was alone.
As they lowered Billy's casket into the ground, Max wished she could go with him but she knew for a fact he wouldn't want that.
Two hours later
After returning home, Neil and her mom stoped in the living room and turned to her.
“We are having a baby,” her mom said as if they hadn't just attended a fucking funeral.
The pain continued though.
“We are turning the spare room into a nursery” her mom went on.
Max couldn't take another word. “Spare room, spare room. That's Billy's fucking room. He's only been in the ground for a couple of hours and you act like he didn't fucking exist. I'm out of here” Max said, grabbing her skateboard and slamming the door behind her headed out to where she didn't know but she couldn't stay there.
That night
Max snuck into her bedroom and as quietly as possible snuck into Billy's room and collected whatever she thought was valuable to him, including the necklace he always wore.
Grabbing his blanket Max went back to her room, curled up in the blanket, and cried until she fell asleep.
July 8, 1985: boiling point
Max was out on one of her excursions. She couldn't stand being at home and she still wasn't talking to her friends.
As she passed the park she saw him and he wasn't alone. He was sitting on a blanket with Eddie Munson.
His hand was on top of his and they were leaning against one another.
And then it happened.
They kissed and all the restraint Max had just vanished.
Something dark was unleashed and she wasn't going to stop it.
“So this is what you've been up to Steve the bullshitter Harrington.
So were you sitting here kissing this long-haired jackass while Billy was being buried?
I mean you said all those sweet words to my brother about loving him no matter what and then you don't even show up for his joke of a funeral put on by my shit face mom and abusive Neil.
But the one thing you wouldn't do is be public. You wouldn't kiss him. You wouldn't hold his hand but you would put him down, insult him and never protect him.
The cabin was Billy’s biggest regret. You of all people should know where that anger came from.
If it wasn't for him you wouldn't be here to kiss this thing's ugly face”
Max said tears streaming down her face. Before Steve could say a word she dashed off leaving and neither Steve nor Eddie could do anything.
July 10, 1985: Broken
Max hadn't been home for two days. She had hidden out in the little alcove she and Billy found the first couple days they lived there.
She was living on the bottle of water and snacks she had two days ago in her bag.
She never wanted to see Harrington or the others again.
Curling up into fetal position Max hummed a song Billy used to sing to her back I'm California and fell asleep.
A few hours later: Healing
Max opened her eyes and felt the warm bed underneath her and sat up startled.
The first thing she saw was Harrington sitting in a chair next to her bed.
He looked asleep and Max started to get up to leave when he said softly
“I won't stop you but I would like ten minutes of your time”.
Max stopped and sat cross-legged on the bed.
“Alright, you deserve some answers.
First, you're right I wasn't there for Billy when he needed me. I knew of the abuse he was suffering and didn't say or do anything.
Second Billy didn't want us to be public due to his fear of Neil finding out.
Third, I should've been at the funeral. I was just hurting way too bad to go.
And the big one, Eddie. That just happened. He was a good listener and we gravitated toward each other.
Max, I loved your brother so much and even if I move forward with Eddie he will always own my heart.
I would love to be your guardian if that's ok with you so you don't feel alone and lost in that house” Steve said, not making any moves.
Silence hung in the air.
“How did you know where to find me?” Max asked, feeling her shell crumbling.
“I don't know. I heard singing. It sounded like Billy so I followed and there you were” Steve said.
And that was that.
She gripped onto Steve and held on tightly. All the anger and hatred sliding away. The pain of losing Billy was still there but the rest dissipated.
One year later: Rebuilding
Steve kept his word and became Max’s legal guardian.
Max reconnected with her friends who were glad to have her back.
She was also Eddie and Steve's biggest cheerleader. Eddie and his uncle had moved in and it felt like a family.
They visited Billy's grave once a week to add flowers and just to keep him up to date.
Max would always mourn what she and Billy could've had but she will always be grateful for the time they did have.
She was also grateful for her new family as well.

Personally, I've never said that Will would be the only main character anyway. I just think that it makes more sense for him to be centered now because there is a lot of stuff that has to be addressed regarding his character. That does not mean I think Mike cannot get targeted whatsoever. But Will's plot points would get more focus because still do not know:
1- Why he was specifically targeted by Vecna in S1, and why was he specifically kept alive. Is it because he has powers or is there any other reason? 2- Why did he get possessed, and why wasn't he killed again. 3- The way he is still connected to Vecna, has to be addressed because it is ongoing since S1. 4- The obvious parallels between Vecna and Will have to be addressed, 5- Will's whole S1 and S2 have to be addressed. 6- Why is the UD stuck on the time Will went missing specifically. 7- If Will has powers, it it why he got targeted, and probably is that why the UD looks the way it looks, etc.
So it makes more sense for Will to get targeted narratively to address these narrative and plot points. That's not saying Mike cannot get targeted, but it is rather saying that he probably will not be the first person to get targeted rolling to S5's beginning.
Yeah honestly I'm in agreement with that, when it comes to Vecna, we can presume the only reason he would even target Mike is to get to Will.
Though, we've also seen that he's calculated.
Every action he does, he is thinking ten steps ahead.
Yes it's about getting to Will, but that doesn't mean that all it takes is targeting Will and that's that.
They didn't need to 'waste' their time having Vecna confronting random teenagers with trauma, specifically with Max and then Nancy?? But they did. Because Vecna has his own arcs with all these other characters that are merely pieces in his little game, with all the trauma he's caused them. And it all ties into what he wants in the end.
Vecna confronting Mike in the final season, after keeping the audience in the dark for so long about his inner feelings, is a writers dream, because it's a little too perfect.
This is a TV show, which means certain things have to happen to make the story interesting and engaging and exciting. And that's why a lot of fans predict Mike will be targeted. Because why if Will is what Vecna wanted this whole time and that's all there is to it, couldn't he just go for it and get it over with?
Because this is a story and those sorts of things take time to build up to, and it wouldn't be very interesting if it was all resolved right from the jump.
In the moment, Vecna's choices might feel random, but in the grand scheme of things, we're starting to see it's all for a greater reason?
S5 is going to have ups and downs, and I think Will being targeted by Vecna in some capacity is inevitable and it's bound to happen multiple times in s5. Though I also think some other confrontations are due. And if Max was worth targeting because of her guilt over Billy and Nancy because of her guilt over Barb (both involving Vecna himself), then yes I do think it makes sense for Mike, the og protagonist, who has guilt tied to the other two og mains, Will and El, also tied to Vecna, to have some sort of confrontation with him.
I don't think it will start and end with Mike interacting with Vecna though, by no means is this the biggest plot point to s5, because I do think it all goes back to Will regardless of the different things that happen along the way leading up to that confrontation.
However I do think it will be one of the major plot twists for the overall audience because it is super unexpected.
And I do think it makes more sense for them to save the biggest confrontation for Vecna and Will for the end of s5, because if they did it in the beginning it would feel sort of anticlimactic to repeat it in the end.
And so, what makes more sense is to yet again create the semplence of a confrontation between Vecna and Will, maybe even go there, but still not fully go there... And a confrontation with Vecna, potentially involving Mike, obviously affecting Will feels like a way to surprise an audience who is only expecting the Will part, and to also have that impact Will's character in a way that is going to make his confrontation in the end feel even more anticipating, despite it being entirely expected by the majority!

Stranger things spoilers below:
This season sucked BALLS. I shouldn't be but yet I am still amazed at how the Duffer Balls manage to have literal gold in their hands and chose to shit on it. Eddie's death was lazy writing. It was poor and just a quick and cheap way to wash away the whole 'Satanic Cult' bullshit. Also what is it with leaving his fucking CORPSE in the Upside Down for christ's sake. You couldn't even bring his fucking corpse back?? Nah fuck that. Disrespect to Eddie and a waste of a fucking brilliant actor like Joseph Quinn. And if that didn't make me angry enough, let me proceed with the rest of the mountains of bullshit. 1. This constant flip flop between Stancy and Jancy. Honest to fucking god I hate love triangles enough as a trope itself but for god's fucking sake this is basically taking a SEMI TRUCK INTO STEVE AND NANCY'S GODDAMN DEVELOPMENT. Steve's whole shit was learning to move from Nancy and Nancy finding a better connection with Jonathan. Oh, and Jonathan was treated like SHIT by the Duffers this season. Him being a stoner makes no fucking sense it was pulled out of goddamn fucking nowhere. 2. Whatever they were trying to pull with Will's sexuality flopped harder than Chrissy's corpse on the floor of the Munson's trailer. Like I don't even like Byler but A. it was vague as shit and B. They really used him just to push the Mileven agenda. Good job on completely fucking up Duffers. Brilliant
3. THE WHOLE FUCKING BULLSHIT WITH DEMONISING BILLY FOR THE 483TH TIME GOD'S SAKE. My man is dead. He has been fucking skewered like a fucking kebab and never got to live his fucking life and better himself and get away from his shit garbage father. I accepted that at the end that he's not coming back, but by god the Duffers can't just let my man die in fucking peace. No, instead they have to drag him through the goddamn mud again with Max's bullshit speech that I hate with all my might. That he 'didn't deserve to be saved'. Nice message there, telling people who have been in Billy's shoes that because they have been abused and mistreated and lash out because VICTIM'S AREN'T FUCKING PERFECT THEY ARE PEOPLE WHO HAVE GONE THROUGH SHIT NO PERSON SHOULD EVER GO THROUGH, may or may not deserve a change for a better life. Billy SACRIFICED HIMSELF and became a fucking MARTYR over a memory of when he was happy and the smallest show of tenderness and caring from a child he DOESN'T EVEN KNOW that made him overpower a GODDAMN MIND CONTROLLING ELDRITCH ABOMINATION MONSTER AND SAVE EVERYONE. And the thanks he gets is the Duffers pissing on his grave. I will forever be fucking pissed at this writing and the Duffers should NEVER try write a character in an abusive situation again because by GOD they did it POORLY.
4. The sympathy bullshit for Brenner and Henry/Vecna/One. So you are telling me they made Brenner sympathetic with this "I oNlY wAnTeD tO hElP yOu" bullshit, and did this whole melancholy music scene. No fuck that. This man stole CHILDREN from their mothers and fried Terry Ives' brains to the point she can't have a normal fucking life and is stuck in a vegetable state for the rest of her life. He also abused these fucking kids and tortured them. FUCK HIM. And sympathy because of Henry/Vecna/One because of what Brenner did? saying he's not a monster? After he fucking killed INNOCENT KIDS and his own goddamn family? Getting his dad thrown into a mental asylum for a crime he didn't commit? Basically having an ideology that would involve fucking murdering all of humanity? And we had glimpses of sympathy through Eleven telling him he didn't need to do this? FUCK THAT TOO.
The ONLY redeeming things in this hellfire garbage shit show was
Lucas beating Jason
Jopper and the Russia stuff
Mike's speech to Eleven because I'm a sucker for Mileven
The smallest fizzle of hope that Robin might get a romantic interest
This season was executed poorly. It was so bad it made me miss the dumpster fire of Season 3. That's how bad it was. And I have no hope for Season 5, the only reason I'll watch it because I hate not knowing how a story ends, even if in the end it sucks ass and I'm left forever disappointed at how what once was a good story with a good plot and characters I adored and cared for became a complete fucking mess of fanservice, 80s pop culture references, lazy writing, and shitty horror for the sake of 'edge' and 'shock'.
I said it once and I'll say it again: Stanger Things should have ended in Season fucking TWO.

Wait, how do you think the battle is gonna happen...?
Ok so, thing is. Vecna has only two weaknesses: Fire/heat. And compassion/positive emotions. (For lack of a better way to describe)  The fire/heat thing was obvious and already explored in previous seasons but we established throughout S4 that positive feelings/thoughts are very potent in weakening/disrupting "Vecna's curse" as well. That's what the music was all about.
I always think its funny that people in this fandom think coming at Vecna with sadness and hate and anger is going to Do Something and that he wont just eat that and spit it back in their faces because thats literally his thing. You cannot out-rage and out-hate the hate fueled rage-monster. No one wields sadness, hate and anger with more horrifying proficiency than Vecna. We've literally seen canonly that the only times in which Eleven has been able to get the upper hand on Vecna is when she is channeling positivity and love. The Mileleven antis are gonna hate this but Mike and Els scene in the piggy back was important because - no matter what you feel about them as a romantic couple - Mike DID do something GOOD with his lil speech to her. If Mike didn't start talking his ass off and helping Eleven remember all the Good Times, the happy memories and things and people she holds dear in her heart Eleven never would have got the strength to come back at Vecna and Max would have been dead-dead. Anyway, the thing about Will? Will is the cleric. In DnD clerics are healers and spellcasters - they're described to be in connection with a "higher power" and their trade mark is basically summoning fireballs.
This is not to say I think Will literally has some kind of literal pyrokinetic powers. But then again I'm not gonna rule that out completely, we've got a lot to see and cover yet. Anyway, Wills "powers" that we do know of right at the moment are in the fact he shares a whole psychic metaphysical connection with Henry presumably through the "higher force" they're both linked into.
Unlike Henry though Will has not been twisted and wholly transformed into something vengeful and cruel by his pain and suffering. Will has had love, support, people to help him and as a result Will is a supremely compassionate individual.
And like I MIGHT be being insane here but Will could very well be the first and only person to actually acknowledge Henry's pain, genuinely and to perhaps actually offer him a genuine sense of empathy that no one else ever has (Something that we saw Eleven try to do in the piggy back episode but failed.) and perhaps that's going to be the thing that makes all the difference when facing Vecna. Because we did see in the piggy back episode that Henry wasn't necessarily beyond reach, its just Eleven ultimately couldn't get through. But the fact he had such a reaction to hearing Brenner was dead, stopped, listened, and started conversing with her in a VERY human way that we had not seen from Vecna before that, imo it goes to show hes probably not entirely beyond reason. Some other “unrelated” canon moments I think could back this are: How fast Billy's "corruption" turned around just by him being able to remember his mother, who he loved. A brief moment of compassion rocked Billy's shit in a good way. How, Dart, a literal Demogorgon that was shown love by Dustin was able to turn its back on the ""hive mind"" because of this.
Other fun things to consider here are: Essentially Clerics aren't born they're made. Whether they choose to become a cleric themselves or they're CHOSEN by a "deity". We know Will is the latter. Interesting thing here is Vecna, via DnD lore, is also considered a deity himself. He's a supremely powerful demi-god. And I presume we're all aware of the theory that Vecna chose Will personally back in S1? But this begs the question why? Why did Vecna choose Will and essentially "create" someone who could maybe “defeat” him? Is this some kind of cry for help? What does this mean?  We know he didn't go after Will to kill him because if that were the case there was no reason for all that elaborate bullshit. Homie could have just snapped the kid in two across dimensions. (( I personally am not 100% sure if I believe the theory that Vecna chose Will personally and that the S1 Demogorgon was just a poxy body for Vecna. I’m not ruling it out at all, because it could add up, and I do think due to the existance of the “hive mind” Vecna does kind of have an “influence” (even if indirect)  everywhere, but I think it might have been more a ‘twist of fate’ type thing. Currently I feel more like the Demogorgon just happened to get through the gate and it proceeded to promptly do Demogorgon things (We have a hint these things are parasitic in a sense that it seems they use living bodies as incubators for their offspring) and Will ended up connected to the upside drown through “the vine” which linked him to the MF and then in turned linked him to Henry. (Perhaps without Vecna himself being fully aware?)  My main point of reasoning here is I think there is something interesting in the flash backs we see in the piggy back episode when Henry explains his “transformation” to El and his “plan” and El has that moment of revelation that Vecna was always connected to things. There is no actual flashback of anything that happened to Will. To El, yes, but not to Will.  It seems to suggest Vecna’s attempts to break though and make “doors” are different to the “doors” El “accidently” created that showed the Demogorgon and the MF trying to get through in S1 and 2. For whatever reason season 1 and 2 are shown separately to season 3.  El says “It was you. Always you”  Vecna nods and says “All I needed was someone to open the door. And you did that for me. Without even realizing it. Didn’t you?”  We’re then shown a few flash backs of scenes in season 1. El touching the Demogorgon and the initial accidental opening of the gate in the lab that allowed the Demogorgon to get through and start Demogorgoning.   Then Vecna says “And when you did realize, you chose to resist.”  We’re then shown El dematerializing the Demogorgon in season 1 and closing the MF out in season 2.  Vecna then says “So I sought a means to open my own doors. I sought... Your power.”  This is when we’re shown scenes of season 3, dealing with Billy and the Spider Monster and Vecna says “So, don’t you see? Once again, you have freed me.” And again this might mean nothing and I’m being nuts but I find it interesting how the flash back scenes are separated and the initial attacks from the Upside-Down with the Demogorgon and the MF are separated from the attacks Vecna admits were his attacks to open “his own” doors. I’m coupling this with the fact theres very little suggestion of Vecna in S1 and 2 (the fans have made the theories and I’m not saying they're not fully believable but In s3 there is almost explicit suggestions of Vecna being there in some way when you look back after watching s4 where as the two other seasons his presence is much more... subdued at best)  So why did Vecna only start taking an active role in s3 and more obviously in 4? There is a heavy suggestion Vecna was somehow incapacitated during S1 and 2 and even though his “influence” was there he wasn't there consciously/purposely.  Which wouldn’t be hard to believe given we’ve seen our psychics fall into comas after exhausting their powers. We’ve even seen them loose their powers. And Vecna did explicitly say he needed El’s powers. Why did he need El’s powers when he usually has more than enough of his own? SO In the VR game, we’re shown Henry/Vecna Doing A Lot Of Shit since its all from his POV. I think they described it as “taming” the Upside Down. So this suggests that in doing all that, Vecna wiped himself out and couldn’t personally participate in the initial attempts to break into Hawkins. (This also might be the period in which Henry was fully “transformed” into Vecna bc we know he wasn’t all the way there when we first saw him make contact with the MF’s physical body) He was slowly building strength during S1 and 2 when El/the kids were dealing with the Demogorgon and the MF/Demo dogs.  Which could be evidence to the idea that even though these creatures are all connected to a “hive mind” and can be seen as “one” they can also act independently of each other (I think we’ve almost seen this proven with the demo creatures on occasion. They do be just doing their thing until they’re specifically “called” on) Or at least even though Vecna and the MF seem to be “one”, (pun maybe intended) they can act independently of each other, since we also saw very little of the “MF” in season 4 and instead it was all Vecna. I mean not to say they don't have constant influence over each other but yeah, they don’t seem to have to fully be present in each others shit))  We also have a suggestion that Vecna has precognition. Eg: he can apparently see the future or some version of it. This is what is suggested in the scene with Nancy. He literally tells her this: "Now that you've seen where I've been, I would very much like to show you where I am going." We're also not sure why he chose Nancy in particular to show this “vision” to but I dont believe these things were done without reason on his behalf. I dont even think that Nancy, Steve and Robin got the upper hand on him by accident. I think he let them have that win on purpose. Heres another question though: dealing with the MF. Did the mindflayer “poison” Henry? Or did Henry perhaps “accidently” poison the mindflayer? This is not gonna sound very Vecna sympathizer of me but its possible the mindflayer was more neutral until Henry linked with it and his own anger and sadness got sucked into it.
This being said this doesn't entirely explain all the little suggestions that the MF reached out to Henry first and things occurred the more the opposite way around. (Not to say Henry wasn’t already angry and sad - but that just seemed to be what made him the perfect “target”. Also, in the original script of the scene for Henry’s “fall” into the upside down it seems more explicit that he was weirdly targeted by the entire environment in a way we have never really seen before. He was particularly targeted by tentacles that SOMETHING had to be controlling and that something WAS NOT him. This could prove Vecna didn’t “choose” Will personally and something else did bc Will is the only other person the environment of the Upside Down could be described as acting kinda weird toward )  SO Yeah did The MF choose Will or did Vecna choose Will? Its currently unclear WHY exactly in canon that Vecna/The MF would "choose" Will but the thing is we know Will has been chosen and he is connected to them/him. People think it was just to be used as a spy but no, I think its bigger than that. We know Will has pretty much always been likened to a "cure" while Henry/Vecna is likened to a "curse" and we've also seen the MF at least work as a type of poison/infection/virus in a very PHYSCIAL way (s2 and then s3, which seemed to be a team effort by Vecna and the MF together) while "Vecna's curse" has similar connotations in a metaphorical/emotional way.
When I personally draw inspo for Will and Henry I draw it from places like Silent Hill, with Alessa and Heather. And also places like the Ring with Samara/Sadako to a slightly lesser extent.
What they all have in common and relation to Henry/Vecna/Will is they were powerful psychics who had bad mothers, were horrifically abused and their 'deaths' resulted in their transformation to supernatural forces of rage and vengeance. This being said, due to the fact that none of them were inherently evil, they all have a soul that is split and/or connected to a "good" half- and there is a concept of being "reborn" and essentially living the 'good life' they were denied through this "good half." Its not uncommon with this trope (Not sure what its called as a trope but I know it exists in a couple different stories) for the 'good half' and the 'bad half' to come in conflict but they usually they end up "merging" somehow - whether this is like literal/physical or is completed with the "death"/neutralization of the "bad" half. And we know we have had this whole “concept” of “becoming whole” throughout the show. We also have the color theories with how Hawkins, the upside down and Vecna’s dimension are presented by primary colors of “Blue” “Yellow” and “Red” which typically stand for “Mind” “Emotion” and “Body”. We know that these are  suppose to be in interdependence and harmony but in ST they’re kind of shown as “separated.” Maybe in some way these dimensions are meant to come together?
But that's all really just theory and in no way am I saying that's exactly whats gonna happen and I’m totally rambling kind of off tangent but I think at least the aesthetic references are there. What I do think is Will is going to have an impact on Vecna in an "emotional" sense, so to speak. And thats the "key" to "winning" not so much the the idea of winning in a "physical" battle, if a physical battle is actually going to happen at all, and part of me is a little doubtful because what do we really think Will is gonna physically do against Vecna? Probably not that much, being realistic. He might be able to molotov him someway for some reason like the teens did sure but I don't think the focus is gonna be a big physical fight between them, I dont think thats gonna be the “focus” or whatever.

So I have a theory for Stranger Things but I don't wanna even possibly spoil anything for someone so if you haven't watched the new season don't read on from here.
I think Nancy is gonna die.
I have many reasons, and before any of you get mad at me for saying that; I love Nancy, it is not a comment on her character or me wanting her to die. I think it's where the show is headed.
Reasons:
Biggest one is because Nancy is caught in the trance by the end of the season.
Why take her of all of them? He doesn't know much about her, all of them pretty much have easy things to target in some way or another.
They've gotta up the stakes this season, more than they have been doing. Someone has to die. They hinted at Max but since she didn't die during that encounter, I think for the most part Max will be safe. Why have her escape if they're just gonna kill her again? But Nancy they didn't set up before. Nancy was chosen and is hearing the backstory. She helps them solve things a lot, she is connected to so many characters. They've killed some people before but not really any truly main characters. The biggest one we lost was Billy (and Bob). They fake killed Hopper, but brought him back very quickly.
The cops are making it very clear they are searching for Nancy and are worried about her. She kinda seems to be their biggest concern at that time. Since everyone in town is looking for someone to blame, it would be awfully inconvenient for Eddie to be right where another victim has been found.
She has had a lot of her relationships being developed this season
Such as: Steve, Robin, Jonathan, and pretty much any other character. She's gotten a deeper connection with them.
First with Steve: They're pretty much saying Steve and Nancy will get back together.. but what if that doesn't happen? What if, after they started liking each other again, she dies when she's right next to only him in the upside down? Considering most of the time in the series he's trying to protect Nancy and him being into her has been a key part of most of this, it would hurt Steve a lot. They've had a couple times where they point out how willing to go head on into danger to save each other Steve and Nancy are. Her jumping into the lake without a second thought, him not wanting Nancy to go alone (or even with Robin.), every time he goes to protect her first. It would make it an extra gut punch if he was the only one actually there and able to interact with Nancy but he couldn't save her, no matter how much they tried to this season.
Next up with Robin: They pretty much didn't interact last season at all, but this season they're already getting really close. Robin goes with Nancy and they discover clues together, she and Nancy split up together to search, they agree that they've become friends, they obviously have grown to like one another. Robin doesn't have many close friends, and she seems to be getting attached to Nancy really quickly, and it would be another person hurt to lose her.
Mike: They've spent the entire show so far growing closer. You can tell they care about each other and dont seem to really hate each other nearly as much as most siblings anymore. Mike has a need to be there and help as many people as possible, and if something goes wrong he blows up. Whether it's to himself or someone else, there is a lot of blame and he will blame someone. Especially if he wasn't there to know what happened.
Finally, Jonathan: Jonathan would take it really hard. There would be a lot of intermalization and he would probably pull away from everyone. He'd most likely feel guilty for pulling away from her and not going over to go to college with her. They finally got together, and then they were pulled apart again; this time they won't get together again, though. It'd be the final ending for them, after all their on-and-off relationship stuff, he wouldn't have Nancy anymore. He wasn't there to save her, he couldn't help, and he lost one of the most important people to him.
Those are pretty much most if not all of my reasons so far, I really hope I'm wrong, but a lot of things are pointing me to that theory so..yeah.

stranger things 5 wishlist
stranger things 5 wishlist – in no particular order
max waking up from her coma, but still being blind. i hope they don't just brush her literally dying and coming back to life off and continue like nothing ever happened (that kind of happened with will in season 1 and 2 but i can't blame anyone since it was important for the storyline that everything was kept a secret and stuff) because having a blind character would be interesting, since she could prove that she can still be helpful to the party despite now having a disability.
dimitri (enzo) coming back for season 5. i am honestly kind of hoping that the whole russia storyline is over, since it was painful (a bit boring tbh) to see joyce, murray and hopper doing totally their own thing for the entire season, however i still want dimitri to come back. he was a pretty interesting character, in that he didn't backstab hopper, joyce and murray after they escaped and stuck with hopper the entire time. he couldn't have gone back to russia (at least i don't think so) because he must be considered a pariah/fugitive, so is he somewhere in america now? i guess i wouldn’t mind yuri coming back as well, i just think he fulfilled his role in the series and isn't needed anymore (that's where he differs from dimitri).
mike and will (possibly argyle and jonathan as well) having a much greater role in season 5. i was kind of disappointed when will and mike, who are supposed to be part of the og party, were on a road trip for half the season, so the fact that they are getting a bigger role in season 5 makes me ecstatic.
byler happening. if there is one season that is perfect for byler, it will be season 5. i mentioned this in a previous post but 4 and a half seasons of build-up will make byler incredibly satisfying when in inevitably happens.
it would also be great if they were to address the painting. like mike has this "oh my god" moment about the painting and the last letter that el sent to mike. mike could find the letter on the ground and read it again and then connect the dots.
more scenes with murray, joyce and hopper working as a team (and, as previously mentioned, dimitri). they are a pretty intelligent group and fun to watch. great dynamics between all of them.
robin and vickie. need i say more?
will shoots a gun and saves someone as a result of it. we know that he knows how to load and shoot a gun (and most likely done it before with his father), and no one has seen him do anything to harm someone in order to save someone else (something like smashing billy's head with a pipe, which mike did, or threatening to hurt billy with steve's bat, which max did) and we all know that he is far more capable than he seems. will shooting a gun is the bare minimum, for me.
if and when max wakes up from her coma, i really want erica to be there. i think it was really sweet when she stayed at the hospital with her brother despite barely knowing max, because her brother was there. i believe and hope that she will have a greater purpose in season 5, since she is a part of this vecna mess now.
robin and will finally meet (for real this time) and have a good talk about something they share in common. being different. i'm pretty sure robin has come to terms with her sexuality and has accepted it far better than will has. and jonathan is great, but he is most likely straight (he hasn't shown signs of being otherwise) and he can never relate to the struggle that his brother faces every day like robin can, and thus cannot help him as much as robin can. i am aware that the duffer brothers stated that they wouldn’t be doing smaller storylines in season 5 (for example, getting steve a girlfriend) like they did in the previous seasons, however this is not a small storyline. it's will byers' identity, one of the main characters of season 5. and when he does eventually get with mike, it will have been worth it to have a chat with robin, and make a lot more sense.
i was originally not planning to post this one publically because i know that a lot of people strongly disagree, but i am kind of hoping that eddie doesn't return for season 5. his character was great, but he did seem like a one season character. like bob, alexei and barb. and if eddie does come back, then literally none of the important characters (maybe papa but he was destined to die from the beginning anyway) died. eddie died at the perfect time (writing wise – not so much for the characters) and if he were to be brought back to life, then i would personally just be confused and a little disappointed. joseph quinn did say, however, that he would be returning for season 5 (or something similar), so eddie might come back in flashbacks or something. or at least, that's what i hope. also, if eddie were to come back, then that just adds another character that needs an important role in the storyline, or what would have been the use in bringing him back? there's already will, mike, dustin, lucas, el, possibly max, joyce, hopper, jonathan, nancy, steve, robin and probably some more that i forgot, that need to play an important role in season 5 for all the build-up to be worth it. and besides, did the duffer brothers not say that it would be down to the core 4 to defeat vecna? that means that all of the young adults (that includes eddie) will not be involved in the final blow to vecna, and so that kind of disproves the kas theory (there is the possibility that i am misinterpreting what the duffer brothers said about the core 4).
el gets some independent badass moments. i think she already established that we was capable of doing great things by herself but now we need it to be explicit. and also, more centred around her personality – how her compassion, loyalty and bravery helps in the time of battle.
mike or will to get vecna'd. i feel kind of mean saying that, but it could be very beneficial to the plot. think about it, if one or the other were to get vecna'd, that would allow for a very emotional scene directed by the person that doesn't get vecna'd. i actually made a post about this here already.
we see more of jonathan and will being brothers. they were shown to be quite close in season 1 and 2, but then they started drifting apart after that. it's still very clear, though, that they both care for each other very much, and i would like to see a lot more of that in season 5.
similarly, more scenes with el and hopper. i think they were awesome in season 2, like they could both teach each other things. and el needs a proper father figure, since she has literally never had one before in her life. i liked how hopper was there for el in season 2 when she was closing the gate, since that really shows that even the strongest and most independent of characters need other people to help them sometimes.
this list is unfinished, but these are the ones that i think are most likely and/or my top ones. this post is also mainly for my documentation purposes so that when season 5 comes out i can find this list easily, so if i was unclear on some things, i apologise!

Bad Apple (M.M)
Tumblr media
OC Name: Jenna Hopper.
Siblings: El/Jane, Will, Jonathan.  Parents: Joyce Byers and Jim Hopper.  Powers: Has same powers as El.
Love interest: Max Mayfield.
Triggers: Talk of abuse, talk of Billy and the things he did to Max, mentions Star Court, the Mind Flayer, and Billy's death, comparing to family, crying, self-hate.
~I love you guys, just know that. You're perfect the way you are~
Third Person POV
The day Jenna met Max, she fell, hard. Max was tough, she was pretty, and she was funny. Jenna loved the badass side to her, how she managed to put the boys in their places sometimes, loved when she laughed or smiled...Jenna could go on, honestly. But the problem was, she didn't even think (or rather know) if Max liked girls like that. And she was always too scared to ask. El, her adoptive sister, disagreed. "She likes you, she talks about you a lot. Don't tell, but she said she loves you, in that way." El told her one day, and Jenna froze. "She does?" She whispered, and El nodded. "Ask her." Was what her sister replied with, and that lead to this.
"This" was Jenna knocking on Max's trailer door at noon, nervous and panicky, ready to sweep Max Mayfield off of her--oh, she opened the door. "Hi, Max." Jenna smiled nervously, and Max smiled, a little confused. "Hi?" She asked, leaning her hip against the doorframe. "Um...I..." Jenna swallowed, suddenly really nervous. "I like being your friend. But..." She groaned at herself. Come on! "Do you want to go out with me?" She blurted, face flaming. Max's face also went bright red, and she blinked, taken aback. "A-are you serious?" Max asked, and Jenna nodded. "Yes!" Max shouted, then said, "Here, come here." She led Jenna through to the back area of the trailer, where last year, Steve and Eddie, ever the pushovers Max thought hey were, built a porch for the kids. A week ago, Max had finally gotten rid of her "stupid crutches," as she called them, since Vecna's attack. She had bad days, where she couldn't move, and most of the time, she couldn't lift her legs a lot for the stairs, so Steve and Eddie built the porch, with tiny stairs, and all Max had to do was go around her trailer, up the stairs, onto the porch, and right inside.
Max and Jenna sat down, breathing in the cool night air. "I've been waiting a long time for this," Max said softly. She looked troubled, deeply so. "Max..." Jenna touched her girlfriend's wrist (and boy, did it give her a rush, being able to say "girlfriend!") "What's wrong?" "It's nothing...just...I hate being afraid." Max admitted, and Jenna frowned. "Of who?" "Billy." She said, and Jenna remembered the boy that was Max's stepbrother. Loud, cocky, and an absolute asshole, even to Max. Got mad, once, because she was hanging with Lucas, who was black, and that made Jenna hate him.
But she remembered that night. She'd gotten a call from Will, something about a creature destroying the mall, and she'd come running to find a giant flesh monster being hit with fireworks. On the floor, she'd seen El and Billy, and it looked like he was gonna kill her. Will had told her, in limited time, that Billy was connected to the monster. If they hurt that, they hurt Billy, and she'd joined in on the firework throwing.
And then El had said something, Jenna wasn't sure what, that flipped something in Billy, and the Mind Flayer had lost control. Billy had stepped up, and the Mind Flayer, pissed, had tried to kill El, but Billy had gotten in the way, and it had killed him. She'd been horrified, and then she saw Max, crying over her brother's body, and she'd felt like her world was ripped in half, not to mention before that, she'd never, ever seen Max cry.
"He'd hate me being bisexual," Max said now. "He hated Lucas because he was black." She snorted, digging her toes in the dirt, and Jenna said, "I don't care. He's not here, and I know that sounds mean, but..." She shrugged, running out of words. "I love you. I always have. And that's not changing," Jenna said softly, and Max smiled, eyes watery, as she turned to Jenna. "Can I kiss you?" She asked, and as the tears slipped from both of their eyes, she nodded, and their breath swirled between their lips, floating to the stars as they forgot their pain and gave in to love.

Billy's relationship and feelings towards Max is complicated. Of course, he hates the change in his life but it's not her fault. Which he is aware of. He hates that she and her mom replaced his own, despite his own abandoning him. He is also resentful of her treatment in comparison to his own. Although he would never want her to experience what he does. A lot of his awfulness towards her was how he saw himself protecting her and in some ways, protecting himself since his punishments were often at his failure with her.
Later on once everything happens I imagine Billy is a lot more brotherly to Max, or at least he feels it. He probably doesn't execute it very well since he is always going to be a bit emotionally repressed and have low emotional intelligence. He admires her. She is tough as shit, opinionated, not afraid to stand up to him or anyone, cares about her friends, and never giving up. I think in a verse where Billy lives and experiences Vecna his temperament towards Max would change a lot. He would be much more expressive about his care and protectiveness of her. I also headcanon in some verses Billy would stay in Hawkins to ensure Max was safe and okay, imagining him scaring off Neil or if Max's mother leaves him, moving with them instead of his dad no longer as much as an asshole 'cause he isn't afraid 24/7.
I think their personalities are similar in a lot of ways which is why they probably butt heads a lot. It's two unmovable forces but I think in some place in Billy's shithead of a heart, Max is like a sister to him.

⚠️: anxiety [but no attacks], drugged food/drink, chloroform
||𝟑𝐑𝐃 𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐎𝐍 𝐏𝐎𝐕||
Through the heavy mist of rain, two beams of light emerge up the rain-soaked road. Behind it, two pairs of bikes; their riders — and one passenger — hidden under brightly colored rain slickers of red, yellow, and blue.
A flash of lightning erupts over their hunched figures, revealing the grim faces of El, Max, and Y/n.
With a wet screech, their tires skid against the pavement as they come to a sudden halt beside a very familiar mailbox.
"Is this it?" Max asks.
El steps off the back of Max's bike, her trepid features looking out over the front lawn and her gut sinks.
1438. Same red door? This had to be it.
El nods.
But what were they about to find?
That question had been rattling around Y/n's head all day, tangling her stomach into knots. Those knots only tightened when her friends began up the driveway.
She steals another anxious glance out from under her azure hood before joining them. Wincing against the mud trailing under her shoes as they sink into the grass, her stomach plummets when she spots the car taking up the rest of the driveway space: Billy's car.
Y/n sighed.
"Remember when this a regular sleepover?" She wonders aloud. "That was fun."
"Y/n, I'm sure it's fine. Come on," Max eases, genuinely trying to be helpful.
Y/n nearly argued with her. That there had to be something going on cause she had been feeling wrong about things since the night Dustin got home — since Will had started acting up. She wanted to argue that if El felt this strongly too, then it would be unmistakable. That something was going on.
But she didn't and she couldn't say why.
So here she and her friends now stood, hair clinging to their face in the humid summer rain, ready to investigate the newest mystery.
El's focus zeroed in on the door, and the muted click of the deadbolt unlocking itself reached their ears. And slowly, the red door crept open to reveal their figures.
Despite her fears, El stepped inside first with a newfound determination. Max lingered by Y/n, still adjusting to the reality of it all. Y/n's eyes catch her in a weak, knowing smile.
"Takes some getting used to, I know," said Y/n, reminded all too well of her last impromptu investigative adventure with El.
Max smiled a little after Y/n as she stepped inside before following in her footsteps, closing the door behind them.
The front entrance was short, and spit the girls out in a narrow, olive-green hallway lined with family portraits. Each of them featured a familiar face, the same face they had seen from the lifeguard info board: Heather Holloway.
As they trailed the halls, their soaked faces reflected in the glass of an all too happy family photo.
"This is her house," Max realizes.
"What?" El asks. That couldn't be right, could it? But Billy...
"Heather's house," Max confirmed.
"Billy's car was out front," Y/n mumbles. "Do you think he—"
The sound of a woman's laughter echoed out, pulling their attention down the hall. It was then they realized, they could hear the distant sound of music playing mingled in.
It didn't take them long to find the front living room. Coasters holding empty glasses were left forgotten on the coffee table, and from around the corner in the connecting dining room, they found a most unlikely sight.
Billy at the dining room table with the older couple from the photo; Heather's parents. They were all laughing and smiling. With Billy. It was as if they had somehow stepped into a creepy, picture-perfect, alternate reality.
"Isn't that cute, huh?" Billy had been saying, his face lit up in a friendly smile that didn't seem right to them.
The woman's laughter died out in an amused giggle, wine glass hung from her hand after a lazy sip. "He's so funny!"
Her voice trialed when all three pairs of eyes land on the three girls, gawking more or less in the living room.
Billy's smile never faltered when his eyes landed on his sister and her friends.
"Max!"
The couple at the dinner table bore vastly different reactions, despite the common shock.
"We didn't mean to... barge in," Max explains, still a little stunned with her brother's sudden unusual behavior. "We tried to knock, but... maybe you didn't hear us over the storm."
Billy didn't answer, he only stared blankly ahead as he chewed on his mouthful of steak. Mr. Holloway didn't let them off so easily.
"I'm sorry," he snarks, speaking to Billy as if they weren't really there. "who is this dripping all over my living room right now?"
Y/n bites her tongue. Her eyes were unable to pry themselves from the complete stranger calling himself Billy, wracking her brain as to how this could be the same person who had attacked Lucas. The one she heard horror stories about from Max, the one who shot her annoyed, rotten looks her way whenever she visited. Y/n could only imagine how Max must be feeling.
"I'm sorry," Billy let out a charming laugh, gesturing between his dinner hosts. "Janet, Tom, this... is my sister Maxine."
"Oh!" Chirped the woman, Janet, with a smile, further annoying her husband.
Billy rose from the dinner table and made his way towards the three utterly baffled teenagers in a tone so unsettlingly casual and upbeat.
"What on earth are you doing here?" He asks. "Is something wrong?"
"We just... wanted to make sure everything was okay," Max stammered, just as confused as her friends.
A look of concern flashed over Billy's face as he inched closer. "Okay? Why wouldn't it be okay?"
El had never officially met Billy, but she knew in her core how wrong everything felt. This was not the same man who she had heard so many awful things about, and this certainly was not the man who she had found in the void. Like her friends, El didn't know what to do. All she could do was watch, rooted to the spot right of Max as Billy seems to loom over them, his eyes drilled into Max's.
El couldn't take it anymore. This had to be an act. After all, El knew all too well how to spot when someone was playing nice. When someone was hiding their real intentions. She had learned how to it long ago in the lab.
"Where is she?" El all but growls.
His eyes snap to El, and she could have sworn she almost saw that mask break.
"I'm sorry," he said slowly. "Where is who?"
"Well, they're a little burnt, I'm sorry,"
All eyes turn to the chipper young girl striding in with a tray of cookies in her hands and a lingering smile on her face.
Heather.
The only troubled thing about her was the crisp cinnamon cookies in her hands. She had trailed off upon noticing the three young visitors.
"Heather!" Billy smiles, welcoming her as if she was an old friend.
El looked like she was seeing a ghost.
"This is my sister, Maxine," Billy chirps, turning back to the three confused girls. "And I'm sorry," he says to El, with an almost edge to his voice. "I did not quite catch your name."
El finally tore her eyes away from Heather, her mind racing. She might not have understood how she could be standing here, with Billy, as if nothing had happened, but she knew it had. Billy was hiding something, even if Max couldn't see it.
With a determined look in her eyes, she matches his steely gaze.
"El."
His smile, so fake it reminded her of plastic, never wavered. The unnamed look in his eyes flaring up.
"El." He hums. "What a pleasure it is to meet you El. And of course, who could possibly forget..."
El's stomach turns when Billy looks to her right. His movements were stiff and smooth, like a marionette puppet on strings, his eyes unblinking landed on her for the first time since they arrived.
"Y/n."
The sound of her name on his tongue made her skin crawl, his voice all the way in the back of his throat.
She was soaked to the bone, but the only chill Y/n felt came from Billy's unwavering stare on her. It was then she realized what was off about him, other than his unusual behavior. It was his eyes. Everything about him and his actions were warm and inviting, completely unbothered.
But his eyes... They were cold. Far away, and detached. And as he looked at her now, that crack in his mask was undeniable. And it widened to reveal something else entirely.
An untamed, hidden rage.
Billy inched closer to her in a single, nearly unnoticeable step.
And so did El. Wedging herself in between her friend and Billy.
Y/n hadn't said a word since seeing him, and she was glad she hadn't. But she didn't need to. The look in her eyes spoke volumes, challenging the look in his.
Hardly any time had passed, she realized, when Billy shakes his head with a laugh.
"Why, it's only my little sister's best friend." Her glare remains, and he glances at the Holloways. "Now please," he chirped, his gaze hardening as it zeroes in on El. "What is it you ladies were saying?"
There was a newer edge to his voice, a smug one. Almost as if he knew he had them cornered.
"You were..." They flicker back over Y/n, before resting back on El. "looking for somebody?"
El looked between him and Heather, her brain scrambling to make things connect. None of it added up. The void never lied to her. It had been misleading, and troublesome more often than not but everything she saw was real.
"I-I..."
So why wasn't this?
"I saw you—"
"Your manager." Max cuts in, quickly grabbing Heather's attention away from El. "At the pool. He said you guys didn't come into work today, so we got worried."
"Heather wasn't feeling so hot today," eases Billy. "so we thought we'd take the day off and nurse her back to health."
With that same, haunting smile, he looks back at Heather with a pointed look in his eye.
"But you're feeling just fine right now. Aren't ya Heather?"
"I'm feeling so much better," she assured.
Billy returns to the girls, calculated but smiling.
"Do you girls want a cookie?" Heather asks, finally managing to tear Y/n's challenging glare off of Billy. "They're fresh out of the oven,"
Thunder rumbled as Y/n looked her over, the booming in the sky matching what she felt thudding in her chest. Y/n couldn't help but feel like Hansel and Grettle as she looked upon the delicious tray of cookies, held out before her with a sickly sweet smile she couldn't at all bring herself to trust.
If she wasn't hurt... just what was going on?
⊹ ⊹ ⊹
Disparaged and thoroughly disturbed, the girls pick up their bikes where they had stashed them at the bottom of the porch steps.
Out of habit, Y/n swipes away the rain on her seat as if it would make a difference. The only thing she succeeds in doing is spreading the water all over the leather, and she sighed, accepting her mind was elsewhere.
Billy was up to something. She just wished she knew what.
As she watches El join Max down the lawn, Y/n stands rooted to the spot, rain pouring down her back as she lingers.
She could feel him watching her.
And when she looked over her shoulder to see him leaning in the doorway, he was.
Her worried gaze hardened in spite as she stared back. His lips spring into a forced smile, his eyes still a dark nothing. Finally, she turns, hidden under the deep blue of her raincoat before retreating into the night with El and Max.
The smile fell away from his face as quick as she looked away, and a poisonous scowl quickly took its place. In those same stiff movements, he stepped behind the door as he closed it, lingering behind the windowpane as his eyes locked on their retreating forms.
His heart pounds dangerously loud in his chest as he watches her.
He feels his brow furrow, revolted.
He knew he had recognized her since she first stepped inside — he could feel the heat lingering from down the hall just as he remembered it.
The pain wasn't just fresh, it was still there.
He could still feel it, as searing and unforgiving as it had been that night.
《•••》
The world bent at her will; everything not screwed to the walls or floors broke loose as the cabin moved around all inside it. It was a movement so forceful and demanding, it moved all of Hawkins. A guttural battle cry pierced the air as her powers exploded into an unstoppable force that had awakened her full potential.
《•••》
He watched in a mixture of fear and hatred as she joined her friends in mounting their bikes. And for a moment, the small, dying part of Billy tries to understand why until he loses himself in another unfamiliar memory.
He had been having them all day — seeing her — all day.
《•••》
Her s/c skin began to glow like a star, the cosmic force at work pumping hard through her veins. The three figures watched in awe as she comes alive, all the while his small and trembling frame twisting and kicking as he is engulfed in searing pain.
《•••》
Fury pumped fast through his veins like ice, desperate to cool his already freezing body. He was filled with a powerful cocktail of anger, frustration, and terror. A feeling Billy was used to. But this...
Somehow, this was also something else entirely. And it was all Billy felt now and all he remembers before the world goes black again.
His pupils dilate and closing in around them are several black veins that cloud the whites of his eyes as he remembers.
《•••》
His screams vibrate with his body before his small frame shrinks in on itself like a dead spider. He straightens in seconds, his head, hands, and feet now glued to the bed as he bends in one final arc, his chest rising to the heavens. His mouth opens in another scream and a billowing cloud of inky black smoke escapes. It twists and unravels out from between his lips like a pitch-black tornado.
《•••》
There was no more denying it.
It was her.
He couldn't have forgotten her or her poisonous touch if he had tried.
It was bad enough that pesky, foolish child to have awakened him — to have shut him out — was here and had been watching him.
But she would have her uses. A means to an end.
All in good time.
But the other? The one to have made him feel a pain worse than death?
Well, the Mind Flayer was determined to return the favor.
⊹ ⊹ ⊹
As Will mingled with the dirt beneath him, the storm pounding against his back soaking him to the bone, he feels it again.
The same feeling he had felt the night before Dustin's return, the day of, and now...
Well, there was no denying it. No more running. This was real, and it wasn't something so easily shaken.
A great change was upon him and his friends, a change none of them were prepared for.
Shakily, he pulls himself to his feet, not entirely sure if the voice calling his name was real.
"What happened? Are you okay?"
With a faraway look in his eyes, Will turns to his awaiting friends as his stomach plummets beneath the earth.
"He's back."
⊹ ⊹ ⊹
"He was singin' Bye bye Miss American Pie..."
Billy returns to the dinner table where Heather and her family awaits, the record player blasting an upbeat, melancholy tune to fill the silence.
"Is everything alright?" Heather asks, as he returns to his seat.
"Yes. Everything's fine," he assures.
"Your sister really didn't want to stay?" Janet asks with a frown.
"No, she's just not... you know, really a people person."
"Well," she says, fingers twitching numbly with the napkin in her lap. "I just don't like the idea of them out there in the storm like that."
"Oh, they'll be fine,"
Nervously, she reaches for her glass, not expecting her movements to be so sluggish. She yelps softly when her knuckles collide with the glass, knocking the wine out onto the table cloth.
"I told you to slow down on that wine, Janet," Tom grumbles from across the table.
"Yes, darling," she mumbles, embarrassed, as she dabs at the spill.
"Are you okay, Mommy?" Asks Heather.
"Yes, I'm— I'm just..." she stutters, doing her best to shake away the dizziness swarming her brain. "feeling a little lightheaded is all."
Billy boredly takes a bite of his food, sharing a discreet, fleeting look with Heather.
"Hm," Tom hums knowingly. "It's all that wine."
"I'm sorry," she says, fighting hard to keep her eyes open. "Um, if you'll excuse me, I'm just gonna go upstairs and lie down for a bit."
It takes all her effort to pull herself out of the chair, and she has to use the arms to hoist herself up but she eventually does the job. But she never reaches the end of the living room before she collapsed with a thud.
"Janet?" Tom asks, jumping to his feet.
"...half-time air was sweet perfume..."
Billy pulls a small glass vile from the floor with little interest. All the while, Tom threw himself to floor by his wife's side in a panic.
"Janet? Janet? Janet!"
With as little enthusiasm as Billy, Heather rose from her seat taking the wine bottle in hand. The record player continued its song louder than ever as Billy tipped the bottle of chloroform into the tablecloth napkin.
"Janet!" He turns to his approaching daughter. "Call 911! Call 91—"
Heather had struck him in the head with the wine bottle before he could finish.
"...never got the chance..."
Billy rose from his seat, leaning himself against the wall of the dining room as he hands Heather the napkin. She was advancing on her father, painstakingly slow as he tried so hard to crawl away to safety. But like his wife, moments before, the world had become a blur.
And it remained so even when he felt the sharp heel of his daughters shoe piecing his skin. Her fingers yanked at his hair, pulling his bloodied face out of the carpet. Before he could make sense of anything, he heard her detached voice in his ear.
"I'm really sorry about this, Daddy, but it'll all be over soon, I promise."
"We started singin' Bye bye Miss America Pie"
He tried to scream, but his voice died out in the chloroform soaked rag and the world went black.

Ghosts Chp 10
Billy x Katrina
A/N: this is a multi chapter series that will contain smut, angst, fluff, substance abuse, MENTIONS OF DEATH
Tumblr media
Katrina's POV
"I see dead people."
Billy's eyes narrowed, "excuse me?"
I bit my lip and lowered my eyes to the ground, "I can...see ghosts...and memories."
"You were gone for ten fucking minutes and you were able to get your hands on drugs? Are you serious?"
"She shot herself, right?"
Billy stopped and stared at me as I continued, "your dad tried to hit you but she put herself between you, cracked her head on the counter when she fell."
"How...I didn't..."
"She was in so much pain, Billy. She was just a shell of herself most of the time so she made sure she would be alone and she found your dad's gun."
I could see the hurt and confusion on his face and the way his chest started to heave with heavy breaths. Behind his shoulder stood Olivia, hair loose around her shoulders and swaying gently with the slight breeze.
She nodded when I met her gaze, "go on."
"She put that gun in her mouth and pulled the trigger. But she wasn't alone. You heard everything, saw everything."
Billy's jaw clenched, "who told you all that? Max? Steve?"
"Olivia did. And when you were telling me about her, I could see bits of your memories."
He shook his head, "that's impossible."
"That's why I freaked out when I saw the picture. I grew up being told I was crazy, that the people I saw were hallucinations. When you showed me the picture, I knew they were real, all of them."
"I don't...that is crazy, you know that, right? Someone had to have told you about her, that's how you know all this."
"I know it sounds crazy but I swear, I swear it's true."
"This is insane," he mumbled, "why can you see her but I can't?"
"I don't know, Billy. I was just born like this."
"Who else?"
"What?"
He crossed his arms, "Who else do you see? I need more proof."
"There's a girl, Ally, she likes horror movies. She keeps to herself mostly, just know she killed herself. Susan has been following Max around, can't handle how tangled Max's hair gets. And...Elle is the one I was always fighting with...my fiance."
Billy smiled wistfully at the mention of his stepmom, "Susan used to have to bribe Max to brush her hair. Wait...your fiance? I thought you ran away from her? That you were in an abusive relationship or something."
"No, she died and I was running from that. I thought if I left then I could leave the pain behind too but she came with me. She was amazing though," tears burned my eyes as I talked about her, "we were planning our wedding when she died."
--
He was quiet for a moment, letting everything sink in, "come back downstairs, everyone's gunna have a lot of questions."
"Wait...you believe this?" Max looked at her brother with a scowl.
"She knows things. Things that she wouldn't know unless she was telling the truth."
Max turned to me, "how did my mom meet Neil?"
"Max," Billy murmured, "we already know."
"Yeah, we do. But she shouldn't! None of us talk about them to anyone."
I looked across the kitchen at Susan, who was standing against the counter with Olivia at her side. Two women who couldn't be more opposite but connected by the same man.
Olivia laid a comforting hand on Susan's arm with a smile.
I listened to Susan's story and repeated it for everyone to hear.
"I met Billy first. He was seven, Max was only two. I took her to the park one day and this little boy with wild blonde curls came barreling up to us. Talked my ear off and let her hold his hand to keep her steady while she walked around. Talked a lot about surfing," she smiled, laughing a little, "I loved him right away. Then Neil came to collect Billy. He was gorgeous. Tall, dark and handsome. Very forward. Asked me if Max's dad was around, told me Billy's mom had died. We started dating right away, married within the year."
Billy's cheek had turned pink hearing about himself as a child but his jaw tensed as soon as Neil was mentioned.
Max had tears in her eyes when she looked up from her hands, "that's exactly how mom used to tell us the story. Why...how?"
Steve exhaled hard and I saw him shiver when Susan crossed behind him to stand between Billy and Max.
"Wait," I mumbled, "Steve. Come here, I have an idea."
His eyebrows scrunched but he stood up to come closer to me, "what?"
"Remember the sleep paralysis? I was touching you when that happened and you just shivered when Susan walked by you. Maybe, if I touch you, you'll see I'm telling the truth."
I grabbed his arm and watched his face drop in disbelief.
"No fucking way," he murmured, rubbing his eyes with his other hand, "she's telling the truth. They're here."
Billy reached out and grabbed my arm, frowning when he couldn't see anything, "why doesn't that work for me?"
"Steve's special," Olivia cooed, "sensitive. That's why he can feel us."
Steve smirked, "your mom says I'm special."
"Special's one word for it," Billy grumbled.
Max ignored them and stared hard at me, "what happened the night she died?"
"Max," Billy warned, "don't."
"Don't what, Billy? Nobody told me anything other than Neil crashed the car."
"Cause it's my fault, Max!" He blurted out, "they were supposed to go out and he told me to stay home and watch you. But I didn't want to and we started fighting before they left. It's my fault he started drinking and crashed the car."
Susan shook her head, "no, hon, it's mine and Neil's fault," she looked to me, pleading, "please, tell him it's not his fault."
I started repeating what she was saying again.
"Neil was so hard on him. Made him believe everything was his fault, beat him for it too. I didn't know until after we got married, he hid it from me. When I finally found out, I tried to take us all away from Neil but I didn't have any money. He kept it all and only gave me enough for groceries. I started buying cheaper versions of some things to scrape together some money but I was too slow. That night Neil was taking me out as an apology for yelling at me the night before. I told Neil that Billy had plans with friends, that we could find a different babysitter, but he wouldn't have it. Neil went on a rampage, screaming at Billy until I told him I was going out with or without him. At the restaurant he started drinking and just kept slamming them back, never stopped until the cheque came. I never should have let him drive...but he slapped me, right there in the parking lot. And I was so tired...tired of fighting so I just gave in. Let him take the wheel...it was my fault. I'm sorry, I should have done better. I should have stepped up sooner."
I looked over at Billy, saw his jaw clenching before he turned and stormed out of the apartment. A teary eyed Max ran after him, leaving Steve and I alone in Billy's apartment with Olivia and Susan.
"Maybe I should have kept this a secret," I murmured.
Steve wrapped his arm around my shoulder to give me a light squeeze, "it's just...a lot. They'll come around, just give them some time."
