nobody asked but since I've seen a lil chatter on the DCTL Graphic Novel on tumblr too, here's the thread I posted on twitter, speaking as someone who's done a little freelance work as a comic artist, under the jump:

Main thought about the DCTL graphic novel preview is: yeah, I've made designs like that when I was being paid by the page and expected to just throw in extra design work for free and I have a deadline and no time to scour the source material or really put my heart into the design No shade to the artist; every complaint I have about the pages we've seen is that this looks like someone who was just working (quickly) from a script. The artist is likely not a Big Fan, so they only know the info and descriptions they're given. And the artist's portfolio shows they're capable of the kind of designs and dynamics this comic needed. its possible they phoned it in for no reason, but feels more likely to be "not enough time/not paid enough/not given enough info to give it that level of care." Which, don't get me wrong; an important level of craftsmanship and care is missing and im not gonna blame the artist but i AM gonna be a hater abt it lmao It's not just about designs; the convo with Joey is another good example. It's a literal illustration of the things Joey said and did in that scene, but it's missing the point -- that scene is our introduction to the way Joey throws Buddy off-balance. That energy is missing. And that's the sort of thing that needs the script to convey this purpose well to the artist, that needs the artist to have time & freedom to invest in portraying it, that needs time & investment & knowledge to ask for adjustments at early stages and get the page right one more note: begging batim fans 2 think abt the plot of DCTL and realise why "maybe we will not make the creepy guy who dies at the end a black man in this" is perhaps a reasonable choice. like im a fan of poc norman headcanons too but pls recognise this would be a tough call!! anyway, genuinely cannot wait to see how off sammy is gonna be in this lmao. will he be a mid non-design like norman or will he be conventionally handsome or will he get graphic novel dave miller vibes b/c hes an antagonist? will we get the fabled black hair sammy??? i cant wait

TL;DR I strongly suspect this was an issue of not enough time/not enough money. That design looks nothing like the description of Norman, right? Like, there's hundreds of different AU designs of all shapes, colours and sizes that you could create that would still look like Norman Polk, but somehow they managed to make a character that isnt ANY of them, lmao??? So... how could that happen, unless nobody gave the artist a description of Norman? Or if they did, how did that design make it past anyone else, unless there wasn't time for revisions or a system worked out for revisions, unless whoever was managing the comic project thought it was fine if the designs didn't fit with the descriptions in the book? If everyone is doing their job, then the artist is given the information they need without having to go do unpaid YA novel research before they can start drawing. That's why you have a writer adapting it!!

Anyway I could yell about this for 15 years so I'm going to shush for now BUT I JUST FEEL VERY STRONGLY ABOUT IT LMAO.

this is like. so non-important compared to all my other grievances with the webcomic but like. the reasons kim hyunsoo gives for changing javier's hair from silver to mint. lol. lmao even.

they're so,, lazy,,,,

that sounds like a skill issue my dude :/

i mean the novel illustrations did it perfectly well imo

'but nali' i hear you say 'those are novel illustrations, where there's only one drawing per chapter. of course it's more difficult to do in a webcomic'

and sure. you're right. it's very different in a webcomic. in fact i am almost certain that no webcomic has ever had a protagonist with silver hair.

not a single webcomic ever has done that before. truly. a completely unrealistic expectation to have.

really it's not like silver hair is one of the most popular tropes in manhwa and almost every other webcomic has one of those

clearly. this was a completely impossible thing to ask of an adaptation. it's not like it's one of the most iconic parts of our protagonist's design. it's not like it's mentioned almost every single time javier is onscreen.

really. what a truly necessary change.

which. speaking of.

now, correct me if i'm wrong. but shouldn't your deuteragonist, the very first character your character meets, your second main character's design,,, more important than a secondary character that isn't introduced like,,, more than a hundred episodes later???

like. i don't think we even get told what color lloyd's hair is. but god does the novel mention that habiel has silver hair every five minutes.

i'm sorry i just think that if you're gonna adapt something the very least thing you could do is try to be faithful to one of the very few character descriptions we ever get! especially that of your goddamn main character!

how come a secondary character takes precedence over him?? why not change that character's hair color then???

and even then. if your character design skills suck so much that two characters having the same hair color is enough to make them look too similar perhaps there's a bigger problem here.

i just,,,, i am almost certain i know what character he's speaking of. maybe even two characters. hell maybe even three. but fucking guess what. the webnovel illustrations already did designs for those characters. it gave them all silver hair. and there was No Issue at all because their designs were so distinct from one another that at no point was there any doubt of who was who. because that's what good character design is about.

like. that's such a stupid reason oh my godddd if you're gonna pull that bs then what's your excuse for all those other characters with brown hair. are you not worried they're gonna overlap because their hair color is the same. i mean you made silurian's brown hair darker so now it matches like 90% of your background characters. do their design not overlap like that.

i'm just!! it's such a stupid thing to get mad about!! especially when there's far more egregious changes being made but like!! it just,,, it shows the kind of attitude the people adapting tged into a webcomic have towards the source material

it's not about the hair color. i mean it is but there's more to it. it's about how the artists feel comfortable disregarding parts of the novel and canon because it's more convenient to them. it's about how they prefer to focus on unimportant stuff that gets them a few laughs rather than put a little bit of effort into getting their characters right. it's about how they waste entire panels into making ugly faces and repetitive jokes rather than take a bit of time to get the hair color of their protagonist correctly.

it is,, disappointing i guess :/

that's literally it. that's all kim hyunsoo had to do. it's such a tiny detail and yet. couldn't be bothered to get it right lol

GRGRGRGRG FINALLY AN OPPORTUNITY TO INFODUMP ABT HIM!!! tysm @makifishcake and prepare for a long ramble abt best boy ever (to me) and why saijun is real... let's start with an introduction to a canon crossover character only The Loser (me) cares about! this is gonna get messy in writing near the end cuz its like 3 am for me rn.

Kouno Jun is one of the two protagonists of Asou-sensei's older work, Our Hero Studies and is one of Haganeno Ken's students at Holy Lance Academy (a private school that either exists the same town as Saiki or some neighboring one)

The only translated OHS chapters so far show us who Jun and Haganeno are as characters. Kouno Jun's a generic tsukkomi high school student with normal teenage boy interests and crushes... he's baby and a total boyfail.

Jun likes video games (Kaisou Monogatari, an in-universe franchise), ramen, melon soda and Yayumi - the class rep. Pretty normal dude that's just being constantly bothered by his classmates and the teacher he hates...

...and then there's Haganeno Ken - THE delusional cosplayer hero wannabe teacher with huge interest in roleplaying and RPG video games, who immediately takes a liking to Jun, mainly for his name (his name means shield, while Haganeno's mean sword. you see where i'm going?)

most of the ohs panels will be machine translated cuz i have no strength or motivation to continue my actual translation work ngnhnh one day maybe... 😔

He may look like a generic high school shonen manga protagonist, but it's actually really charming to me how adorable he can be despite the boring presentation lolol HIS CRUSH ON YAYUMI IS SO CUTE UGHNHNH

And yeah of course he shows up in Saiki bc WHY WOULDNT HE???

Asou-sensei put him there twice. In the Christmas chapter where he's walking with a girl (MOST LIKELY YAYUMI), sees Kusuo sitting alone and being like "haha that's so sad to be lonely on christmas lmao"... EXCEPT ITS HILARIOUS CUZ HE DOES THE SAME THING IN HIS OWN MANGA'S CHRISTMAS CHAPTER.

and in the Hero Studies crossover chapter, right at the end as an unused character. (wouldn't make sense to have two tsukkomis there tbh so i get it lolol)

Same thing happens in the anime except Jun in the Christmas episode wasn't animated like he's an actual pre-existing character, except just a background character so he looks different but has the same jacket with his initials so its definitely him.

his terrible sense of style was referenced by Takeru at one point as well. yes, Jun dresses terrible and he has outfits much worse than this. hes a loser and i love him

okay but what's with the saijun thing? orz

basically its a silly ship me and my lovely sweetest gf (@lu-kario ) came up with and it kinda stuck around. "omg haha what if the two protagonists from different manga dated" but yeah it became an actual thing with thought out scenarios between us.

Me saying it'd be like satousai but Kusuo finds someone "normal" with actual personality would be not giving this ship enough justice. I can't tell much rn cuz I forget 90% of the stuff i make up unless i write it down BUT all i'll say is that

I like to imagine Jun and Kusuo having a calm and nice relationship, lots of quality time spent playing video games or going out to get some ramen together. Kusuo gets to have someone more usual by his side and Jun isn't likely to be bothered by Ken when Kusuo is around (:3).

and yeah, they do get another scene together in volume zero! how lovely! the christmas episode is also one of the reasons i find the ship cool but even despite the sillies having canon scenes and illustrations together i like it simply for fun.

canon crossover ships are cool and epic

my final words: go read ohs its fully in japanese online and 5 chapters are in english so far.

seriously go read it the fandom doesn't exist its really lonely.

time travel in ten - sequential narrative collage piece done for my class, Artifact.

ramblings below the cut for those interested in the process/life update for friends who have noticed i've been gone

right lmao. i had two weeks to do this project and had a completely different idea that i just could not get myself to be excited about. emailed my prof in desperation, but it being like 10 pm meant that she was not about to respond. within 30 minutes, as it goes, i got struck with divine inspiration by whatever force of nature governs procrastination-induced genius, and i promptly spent the next 12 waking hours non-stop working on this.

my class, artifact, is a requirement for the foundation year at the college i attend. it centers around time-based media, ranging from the sequential illustration here to video later in the semester, and a bunch of other projects designed to get us thinking in 4d. artifact is the theme of the class - my peers are doing the same projects under a variety of different themes (tragically, haunting filled up too quickly and i missed out on enrollment in that one).

our first project was designing an artifact and doing a write-up of the story behind it. the girl to my left made beaded spiders members of a fictional cult carried. the guy across from me made an amulet of a long-dead god. you get the vibes. mine, which I still need to take professional photos of, is a pocketwatch that lets you time travel. cause, yknow. i'm me. it was gonna be about time travel.

i had originally intended to do a bunch of drawings of the watch's owner, building out her backstory and the world she lives in, and explaining why the watch exists,,,, then i couldn't bring myself to pick up the stylus. I just can't seem to find the energy for my usual digital art (sorry friends i miss yall i'm still here i swear).

I haven't drawn fanart or my ocs in months now, since last semester, and I miss it a whole bunch but right now that creative energy just. is not happening. i don't plan on abandoning it forever by any means, but p much everything i have is going towards school right now. sad as that is, i'm having so much fun, and i'm so proud of the technical improvements i've made. I've got so many things i want to create, mostly for my ocs. i still love crit role, but i've fallen of campaign three. i don't have the time, and the story hasn't been engaging me for a bit.

i've been really into dr who lately, and am eagerly waiting for the spare time to sit and watch all of candela obscura. i'm in a new dnd game. i've got friends! real life friends! irl friends who called me the wizard friend within a few hours of knowing me before i even opened my mouth about dnd lmao. i've discovered a new love of collage, and i've just declared my major in something unique to my school, a program called Studio for Interrelated Media. i'll be learning about illustration still through the extra electives i'll have room for, but i also get to explore printmaking in more depth, as well as event planning, installation, curation, and theatre work as well.

i miss being on here a whole bunch and want to be more active when i get more time. don't plan on abandoning this blog by any means. boston has been kind to me, and though i have had some Real Low Points, i've also been living the life i've hoped for since i was a kid. i'm good, really really good.

to my friends, ily, i miss you, and i hope you're well. can't wait to catch up on all yalls art and fic. sending all my love. <3

Favorite thing about them: He's normal. He's plain and uneventful and almost supposed to go unnoticed. Which makes him the perfect common man and character who's the easiest to relate to and see oneself into. He's the bridge between the extraordinary, superpowers world and our ordinary reality. The author loves to delve into the theme of “ordinary”, “avarege”, “uninteresting” men (x) (x) (also see: Sigma's whole character), and I think they're very good at executing it, and it really shows in the composition of Oda. It's a very compelling concept!

Least favorite thing about them: Well. Not his fault. But if I had to be honest the whole oda/zai fandom drama is, politely, quite tiring... I used to have my perplexions about Oda's moral code the first time I watched the anime, but I've long come to terms with the fact that bsd's worldviews are simply different from mine, so I don't really have issues with it anymore. I sincerely enjoyed his character during the anime rewatch of the Dark Era arc.

Favorite line: I guess “people live to save themselves” hits quite hard. I may disagree with bsd's morals, but I suppose a poignant line is still a poignant line.

brOTP: Buraiha trio,,,,,, Oda and his orphans,,,,,,, Also, I know they didn't have much space to interact in canon, but Oda and Akutagawa. It's kinda sweet how Oda stepped up to go to Akutagawa's rescue.

OTP: I like odazai a lot :) Buraiha trio too as a whole, probably.

nOTP: Oda/ngo; not because I take any issue with it (I ship pretty much everything), and I'm sure they care about each other a lot, but every single time without exception I've been exposed to fancontent of them it always framed them as “Dazai's parents”, which I personally find extremely distasteful. Personally, I perceive it as infantilizing Dazai, and it bothers me in particular in the way it clashes with the image of the Buraiha trio I have of people who respect each other and consider each other equals and on the same level despite their rank.. So, y'know.

Random headcanon: Right now I can't take off my mind this headcanon that Oda wears bracelets made for him by his orphans.

Unpopular opinion: He's the author's self-insert lmao. From the way he's the only writer character, to how Asagiri has him as their profile picture on their socials, to how he haunts the narrative but isn't directly part of it, it's really clear as the light of day for me. Which makes Dazai's reverence for and idolization of him a little funny pffttt.

Song i associate with them: I heavily associate Lovers' Suicide Oblivion by OPA to odazai. For some reason, another song that makes me think of Oda is Servant of Evil by mothy, with Oda as Allen and Dazai as Riliane. You know, I suppose. Deeply loving someone despite their being inherently evil due to being able to see the childish, genuine side of them no one else can see. Dying in front of them as the ultimate act of selfless love and their death prompting the other's redemption. One looking over the other after their death and guiding / protecting them. Yeah, I think it fits them.

‘And I’m done!’ I thought happily, appreciating the way I looked, shown by the reflection. Twirling a bit as I spritz some of the DIOR J'adore Eau De Parfum on myself and sigh happily at myself. Today was a special day. Today was the day when I finally got hold of my boyfriend, Toji who seemed way too busy with the odd job that he never told in detail. We planned a date after struggling to match with our hectic schedule giving no chance and decided that today was the day. Smoothing little unnoticeable wrinkles from my satin, black skater dress I slipped inside my cheetah print full sleeve jacket. A beautiful, plain diamond jewelry settled nicely on the base of my neck which was paired with a pair of simple dangling earrings.

Combing through my hair that I styled with my utmost effort, I reached out the lip gloss in the shade of power red and swiped another coat on my lip and correcting the smudges and maintaining a gradient look. My eye makeup was rather done simply allowing my bright eyes to be the star of the show. Grabbing the purse that was sitting idly on my bed, I slipped my phone in but not before I checked the time. 6:55 PM – it read. I had a couple of minutes before I head out. Going to the small walk-in closet I turned over to choose what footwear will it be today. ‘I’ll just match with my jacket’ I thought mindlessly and bent over to take the high-block heel. Switching off the lights that were open, I took a glance once more at my well-maintained apartment and decided it was time. Today’s venue happened to be the cinema and it was perfect because I was able to get hold of the tickets for the most anticipated movie in my opinion – Top Gun – Maverick. Locking my apartment, I trotted over to the elevator and entered it while humming away at a random tune. A familiar ding was heard, and the doors slid, either way, revealing the exit/entrance of the building. Greeting a ‘have a good evening’ to the nearby staff I walked over to my car and revved up the engine.

Today Toji had some personal things to deal with so he said he wouldn’t be able to join me on the ride on the way to the cinema and said he would reach there on his way. Shrugging the sadness away as nothing when I heard that since he never broke any promises and always showed up one way or another was reassuring. A podcast played in the background from my open radio as I drove to the cinema. Today the city looked incredible. It could just be my happy mood, or it was always this extraordinary. The city lights blared from all directions, blinding your eyes in a good way. The level of serotonin I got from the view of the bustling people carrying out different activities was really thrilling. A group of musicians cheerfully played their best tunes while the crowd formed praised away. Smiling slightly, I focused on my driving.

Today’s gonna be good.

Parking my car at an empty spot I found I climbed out of my car, making sure I collected my belongings and switched off the engine, and locked the car. Checking the time once again it read 7:22 PM. ‘Oh great, I’m not late.’ I thought and strolled into the cinema and was introduced to a large hall filled with full of movie posters and stations packed with various flavoured popcorns and different soda machines all lined up. This time, the cinema was quite packed compared to other days. Families, couples, friends, and numerous groups of people were scattered around the place. Drifting my eyes from the crowd I performed a slow 360o spin and admired the neon lights that were running across the walls giving it a bit of a club vibe. Whilst spinning I accidentally bumped into someone but not too harshly but rather a soft one. Without looking I apologized several times and was ready to walk away until that person spoke with a hot breath next to the shell of my ear. “God was definitely showing off when He created you huh.” That voice. It was a perfect balance of clear but rough pure masculinity tone. I whipped my head immediately to that person and engulfed him in a big hug. “TOJI!” I squealed in happiness as I looked up, peeking through my lashes while his towering figure looked down on me. “Hey, babe.” There was a soft smirk drawn on his lips while that scar was stretched ever so slightly due to that motion. His black hair was shaggy as usual covering his eyes a bit. I stepped back and looked up and down at his attire. And boy did he look SEXY.

A black full-sleeved dress shirt was worn paired with black slacks. The first couple of buttons were undone from his shirt and his sleeves were rolled up to his elbows. A hand was tucked inside his dress pant pocket while the other was brushing on his hair. There was a black band ring that sat comfortably on the index finger of his right hand. Flustered slightly at the way his strong muscles were hugged by the black shirt. It was evident he was a built man. Every move he did there was a slight ripple and strain in those carved muscles I’ve witnessed under that shirt. It almost felt like the clothes he wore was just a second layer of skin. Going closer to him I whispered enough for him to hear. “You look really good tonight, a little too good.” I stated humorously giggling in the process and to hold of his free hand and dragged him into the cinema hall #4 where the promotions and advertisements were playing already.

The room was completely dimmed down while there was in built small circular lights on the stairs giving a nice relaxing illuminating glow. I choose the furthest row at the back so we can comfortably have a view of the full screen. There were very few people at that row, only two people were sat at the very far end from our seat. The below row was also empty to an extent as well. sitting in our respectable places I told Toji I was to collect the snacks, but he urged that he would do so. After exchanging few words of who should go, he won and left the room before I could argue anymore. Huffing slightly at his sweet acts, I sat rather graciously and settled my items, so I was relaxed. Few minutes passed and Toji appeared cradling a large popcorn bucket alongside with two cups of cold drinks, one being my favourite and a bag of other snacks hanging off his elbow. Helping to keep the items safely and not creating a mess, he soon joined me, and the movie finally started.

Around sometime in the movie I felt Toji excuse himself to the restroom which I nodded unconsciously since I was so focused on the movie. Few minutes passed and soon I realized he still hadn’t appeared. I decided not to give too much thought too it and opted to hang around for some time before I gave him a call. Few moments passed he came back looking rather disoriented. The light from the large, displayed screen showed how his shirt was more undone. There was a layer of sheen sweat on his Godly built chest. He plopped down on the seat and manspread-ed, occupying the entirety of his seat. He was slightly more slumped against the chair and his right hand was placed lightly on his finger; his expression tells me he’s in some deep thought.

“Babe? You alright? You don’t look too good.” I spoke out with great concern. Lifting my hand, I pressed against his forehead was felt extremely hot. Snatching my hand away I glanced at him with worry. “You are developing a fever!” I quickly got up only to be pulled down immediately with his arm wrapped on my arm. I fell atop him, my chest near his vision. Blushing at the odd position I was in, I wriggled from his grip. “Toji, what’re you doing!?” I exclaimed quietly. “I got this fever because of you.” He spoke lowly. What? I caused his upcoming fever? Impossible. “You’re gonna have to elaborate more on that but do that later when we bring that fever down.” I said sternly, trying my best to break free from his grasp but no luck. Couple of seconds passed and he gave no response but just staggering breathes were heard. “Toji, darling what’s wrong?” I muttered out softly. I brought my hand after gently convincing him that I’m not getting up and caressed his face. “Ever since I laid my eyes on you, I got so fucking hard it was unbearable.” I gasped at his confession and locked eyes with him. “Darling, you were so focused in your movie I couldn’t disturb you. So, I thought I could take care of it myself.” Poor him. He was dealing with all this all alone without me knowing.

“Babe, you should’ve told me. I could’ve helped you; you know.” I spoke sweetly whilst my hands slid down his chest ever so slowly until it reached the problem. I softly caressed his hard on and kept a fixed stare on his face. “Babe– fuck, please help me…” He gently pleaded. How could I not help him when he laid there in front of me, looking so helpless. How sweet it was of him to not disturb me when watching the movie not knowing I’d drop anything to help him. Grabbing his large rough hands, I led them to run my hair over and hold a makeshift ponytail. I settled on the carpeted ground and unzipped his pants and stared at it. There was a wet patch on the dark, tight boxers he wore that hugged onto his pure thick muscular thighs. Freeing the hard dick from the strains, there it stood proudly. A Review of Exaltation

The loss of faith in Ladybug is really emphasised, I’m glad that the plot didn’t just go forward without mentioning the social ramifications of losing the Miraculous Box. The masses of Paris never had much of a role before, aside from being fearful civilians or supporters. The oil paintings used to illustrate the story is inspired. But I really hate it whenever any media tries to absorb some real-world figures or mystery into their lore. George Washington was actually a child of Athena, the Stonehenge was created to fight aliens, Jack the Ripper was actually a demon slain by our hands. The Hell they are. I cannot accept that Sun Wukong was a normal man using a Monkey Miraculous, or that Mulan used the Dragon Miraculous to win her wars. Jeanne d’Arc is the only past Ladybug Holder that is an actual person, I think, and it’s just very strange to claim that her power came from Miraculous jewels. Pushes the suspension of disbelief even further.

I finally played Star Crossed !

I know I said I’d write recaps of my solo games but I finally played Star Crossed with a friend and it was very good!

Star Crossed is a two-player TTRPG of forbidden love by Alex Roberts where “two players craft characters who are powerfully attracted to each other, but have a compelling reason not to act on their feeling.”

Throughout several scenes, the forbidden attraction between your characters is represented by an increasingly shaky Jenga tower. Each time your character touches the other or reveals something about themselves, you have to pull a block. Any time you speak in character to the other character, you have to be touching the tower, no pull required. If the tower falls before the last scene, your characters act on their feelings, which can go a number of ways depending on your attractions score (the total number of blocks that have been pulled from the tower). If the tower is still standing by the end, your characters never act on their feelings and go their seperate ways.

The tower is the best thing about the game. I have played other games with a Jenga tower before (Dread and The War in Everything) but this mechanic has never worked so well with the narrative. The mix of excitement, dread and thrill when pulling a block mirrored what our characters were feeling so well! Our little gamer brains don’t want the tower to fall (mirroring the forbidden aspect of the relationship), but we also really wanted it to fall because we wanted our characters to express their feelings.

The other great thing is that you can (and are encouraged to) set your story in any setting! The only thing that felt a little bit restrictive is the archetypes your characters have to follow (the lead and the follow) which were a bit odd to me at first, but in game it actually worked pretty well, and the dynamics between our characters did not end up feeling unbalanced in the fiction. You can play from 1 to 8 prompted scenes in order (our tower collapsed at scene 7), with prompt that are vague enough to fit any setting (the book follows to widely different example throughout the rulebook to illustrate this: the first is about a married Empress and her Vizier in a generic war-torn galactic setting, and the other is about two “straight” gym bros who work out together.)

Our game was set in Star Wars (I know, shocking) and we played out a romance between a Clone Commander and a Jedi (so, yeah, more than one reason why they couldn’t act on their feelings lmao). Despite initially expecting/wanting a more tragic ending, we did get the “happiest” one where we both deserted and lived happily ever after following our epilogue prompt (Your mind is overruled by the frantic beating of your heart. Damn the world. From now on, you only need each other.) and it was amazing.

The major downside to this game is that it’s probably more difficult to do online (though I’m sure it’s possible to replace the Jenga tower with something else) and that you need another player you’re comfortable enough to roleplay flirting with (of course the game introduces safety mechanics but they’re rarely enough)

I can’t wait to play this game again! I want to play a necromancer and her cav, I want to play a prosecutor and an attorney, I want to play a criminal and a detective, I want to play spies from opposing factions!

Small Vent cause stressed ahhhh

Lowkey think people take games, anime, books,movies, shows and just fandoms in general waaaay too seriously.

Like yes I get it, it can suck when a character to adore gets misrepresented by others. But they are just fictional characters at the end of the day. Maybe I'm just mostly saying this to myself to remind myself that it's okay that someone doesn't see a character like how I do. Because I'm deadass in multiple fandoms where we really just go but wild with our own versions of the characters. Like I'm in the Warrior cats AND the My hero academia fandom... And both of them are known for taking the canon and wiping their buts with it and or ignoring older material. Because well it just happens.

At first I use to get upset about it like how the warrior fandom made Bramblestar out to be this abusive monster without acknowledging the archs before hand and how in My hero academia doing.... Literally anything lmao(I love y'all though... Half of you anyway)

But seriously I just started to realize that the fandoms I'm in aren't My fandoms like I don't own them and I don't own the source material or the IP or whatever. And sometimes you never know why someone images certain characters they way they do. Whether it's for comfort or they think it's funny or they find it attractive or just to annoy people or literally just whatever.

But I always gotta remind myself that hey... THE BITCHES AIN'T REAL LMAO. Why get pressed about how other people illustrate characters. Like seriously I had to sit myself down like I was my own parent and ask myself why do I care about a fictional character being written out of character or drawn with a different design. And I really was just like... Damn yeah why do I care? These artists/writers are having fun and that's what it means to be in a fandom to just have fun.

The only time when I do get serious is when people try to harass others for characters they like because of how they see them vs canon.

Example: I saw this young artist get a bunch of hate comments under a drawing of Bramblestar/Brambleclaw because a massive part of the fandom claimed he was an abuser. Happened again with someone draw Crowfeather x Leafpool fan art because of how seriously people took Leafpool x Mothwing

AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED WITH MHA! They harasses the creator of the show sooooo many times in the past and current because of ships :T SHIPS YALL. Like I understand how frustrating it can be to see the show not end up how you wanted it to or not see too characters make out or whateva but God damn... They are fictional characters chill and just enjoy what we have or hell make what you wanted to happen. I literally do it all the time on my other page @purplestaruwu

Hell I'm still upset about how many characters were botched (in my eyes) in warriors, MHA, Naruto, bleach, marvel, DC etc.

But I think the fun in the fandom is making the what it's and creating our own versions of he characters and sharing it with others who feel the same or who just want to enjoy seeing the characters being draw in different designs, Au's, etc

I use to be so stuck up about everything being close to canon... But then I was just like "You know what it's not hurting anyone, you do whatever" and after that I feel like I became more relaxed being in fandoms... At least I try to be sometimes I do slip up but I stopped commenting on peoples different pov or au's or whatever unless I was gonna say something nice like complimenting the art or the writing or how good the plot of the story was.

It just got easier to just enjoy things and to just well not be so aggressive on the internet and not be online so much.

Cause whenever I get made about seeing a fictional character drawn in a way I don't like and I feel the need to say something... I just be like "yeaaah it's time to take a break for the day I think I've been online for too long"

This also goes for real things that happen online too lmao I just learned to take breaks and breath and remind myself that the online world is just that... The online world... And fandoms are just that fandoms...

I'm venting right now because I'm stressed out or more than likely I stressed myself out with because of online crap. And I just wanted to kind of put this here for me and for anyone else who kind of needs that reminder than you don't need to be online so much and you don't need to protect fictional characters or shows or movies or games or whatever it's not worth hurting someone's feelings because that.

Not my greatest purchase lmao. I had literally just ranted on some online groups about why disney doesnt have stationery stores and voila, I walk into World of Disney and find stationery/craft supplies. I did not pick up the other craft kits they had as I was trying to ration my $$. I really wanted all the Bambi stuff but ugh, so expensive. If I had a paycheck coming in that'd be different.

The things I do for art social media though

Look at these beauties. I honestly want to know how I get employed by disney to make the same thing? I think I can do a weeee bit better.

Otherwise, we didnt actually go in Disneyland just to the shopping district and I felt a bit rushed. I wish we could have done Disneyland but we didnt know a couple months ago if we'd even be able to go to families for Christmas. For all we knew we would still be house hunting and homeless. But everything turned out fine. We had a nice Christmas and I got a lot of really nice and useful gifts. We visited Knotts Berry Farm as well and Ill probably use my Knotts footage in a next video.

But we are back home now but still waiting for furniture. I was trying to put out something artsy before I stopped to do boring real life stuff. Im trying to get my old laptop to work. Ive been applying for jobs but it is really difficult on a mobile device without a keyboard. I brought my laptop with me incase something were to happen to our furniture (and it did, got pushed back 2 days) but the old girl is a good 8 years old and the struggle is real.

The next art thing Id like to do is Id like to make watercolor illustrations that match my bathroom showercurtain and frame it/hang them. I still have another diamond painting to do too. I am probably killing my fledgling illustration portfolio by doing random craft shit but I also want to do an original crossstitch and Im going to take that one twitter user up on that offer to make one too.

P.s. my new house is super nice and probably way too big and my back hurts from poor posture from sitting on the floor.

favorite thing about them

his struggle with loneliness. Cheritz took a man with wealth beyond our feeble imaginings and gave him a psychosis that made him so fucking relatable. for real though they really hit the nail on the head with him: hyper-focusing on your job, dismissing big familial issues, putting too much emotional weight onto your pet, these are things i think most people can relate to do, and Cheritz tied them together with loneliness, distilled them to their base issues, and fed them to Jumin on a silver spoon. his BEs reflect how horribly his life can spiral if he doesn't properly address(BE3 is actually more of a reflection of MC's character but i digress) the root problem: his inability to make meaningful connections to other, and a dating sim is the perfect setting to explore that! unlike Damien who i was talking about before, Jumin is a perfect example of executing a premise perfectly and to it's logical conclusion

while i do appreciate Jumin's wealth being part of the appeal of his character, his capitalistic sympathies are kindaaaa the elephant in the room for me. why run a charity fundraiser when he already has so much wealth at his disposal- i mean he's donating too but considering the things he's mentioned buying for Elizabeth the Third i feel like he's pretty close to having enough money to end world hunger......well. if i can suspend my disbelief about Saeyoung flying i guess i can also pretend the economics of the MysMe world is fundamentally different i guess lol

this is one of the few times we actually see Jumin call out V and reprimand him, and it is so worth it. Jumin has plenty of good moments but this one definitely takes the cake, especially after all we learn about what V has let transpire in his and Saeran's routes

SO, have you seen the new Batman movie yet?

hell yeah I did and if you want thoughts I got thoughts, spoiler-free above the cut (aside from things you’ve probably garnered just generally, given that the movie’s been out for two weeks), spoilery under it!

Gotham City as a setting (always important) was outstanding. outdated buildings, dark, cramped interiors INSIDE the outdated buildings, raining CONSTANTLY, NOT cool, NOT beautiful, SUPER awesome Gotham my love <3 <3 <3 I always want a Gotham that feels like its own character and The Batman came through.

you guys may or may not know I have a parasocial feud with Rpattz that has nothing to do with his level of talent (which I believe to be above average). annoyed/pleased to report that I thought he did a great job here, i.e. I forgot it was Robert Pattinson even when he was out of the cowl.

SPEAKING of which, it’s a different take on Bruce, but I found it totally believable, especially for early-Bat-Bruce. as much as the brainless playboy fop is a great and hilarious defense, you can totally argue that painfully shy/socially awkward/depressed/scared of his own shadow Bruce Wayne is an equally effective defense against “What if Bruce Wayne is Batman?” Nobody meeting this Batman and then running into this Bruce Wayne the next day would connect the two and that’s the ideal dynamic for the two roles, no matter how it’s expressed.

oh and since we’re talking about dynamics Jim Gordon/Batman work husbands forever 🖤🖤 I feel like casting departments are continually trying to get around the ACAB crowd by casting the most affable and likable man as possible as Jim Gordon every time and Jeffrey Wright came through in a big way.

+ I know people complain about Bats and Catwoman having no chemistry but 1. I don’t think you can say there’s anyone Zoe Kravitz doesn’t have chemistry with and 2. idk, I found Batman’s stoic silence covering MULTITUDES of awkwardness around her very charming and telling. he was practically trailing around at her heels the whole movie. it was incredible for me.

this answer is getting too long, the movie is 3 hrs and there’s a lot to say about it, so here’s a flash review of the rest of it: loved the detective noir feel and Zodiac-esque plot, a nice return from the blahness of the DCEU in general. GREAT fight scenes. Reeves clearly did a lot of worldbuilding that you get glimpses of (the gang in the subway! the half painted face of the rookie!) but that there’s no time to elaborate on, which works to illustrate the world, but I’d love to see him with a series/television show to really build with. a little TOO long (some bloat in the middle could have been excised for a cleaner story but ah well). Colin Farrell was funny and charming but why Colin Farrell? it baffles me! for as little as Andy Serkis got to do, they didn’t deserve him as Alfred. love that they went full Italian for Falcone, finally lmao. great incorporation of classical pieces AND NIRVANA into the soundtrack. meme potential: infinite

Paul Dano leading an incel-esque redditor-esque group of wannabe terrorist-vigilantes via Twitch-style livestream was hilarious. I guess those tools do make up the hallmark of the modern geek, and the Riddler is nothing if not the modern geek. I loved his murderous little ass and I loved that he was a fangless dweeb once his computer was taken away-- that’s peak Riddler for you there.

also 😊 😊 our boy got himself a cameo 😊 😊 I know next to nothing about Barry Koeghan except that some of my friends are freaks for him, which, as far as I’m concerned, is a ringing endorsement. he certainly had an excellent Joker laugh and I loved the prosthetics that we could see. The nastier the Joker, the better, tbh. Apparently the next movie is going to focus on the Court of Owls, so I think it could be till the 3rd one that we actually get a new take on the Joker, but I’ve got my fingers crossed, always hopeful.

overall, IMO: good take on a Batman story! good casting, atmosphere, story, and the cast & crew’s genuine love of/loyalty to Batman really shows. it’s not the Batman I want to see for the rest of my life, but like... none of them are, though Nolan’s is probably the closest. I enjoyed it, I hope all of y’all did too :)

ps peter sarsgaard is cute as usual and if I was Selina I’d have scooped his tweaky little ass up and taken him far, far away from there. end post

MY TOP 10 F1 HELMETS OF 2020 (AS A GRAPHIC DESIGNER)

With finally that dumb rule about amount of helmet changes out of our system, I’ve been enjoying seeing all these different helmets this season. There have been beauties, some that I’m still thinking about till this day and there have been some uglies.. some also which I’ve been thinking about till this day and literally thinking: WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!?!? to the drivers that wore them.

As I’m getting my official graphic design ‘papers’ I wanted to give my opinion about my top 10 helmets of this year:

10: Daniil Kvyat Abu Dhabi helmet

This is his last helmet and honestly I’m a fan of this one. It’s a pretty simple design and usually I’m not a big fan of the colour red being used in a helmet. Mostly because I find that colour a bit overdone in helmets. But it being sparkly makes it extremely beautiful and it’s the first Alpha Tauri helmet that I’ve seen that match fully with that big ass logo on there. With most of the Alpha Tauri helmets I feel like the helmets designs have two parts to it, the design and the big ass logo. But with this one I find it matching extremly well. Good job on that, love it.

9: Pierre AustrianGP helmet (fan made)

Oof, the front and the upper part of this helmet is just so fun. I’m a big fan of using a dark background with a very bright color scheme combined and I love the fact that this was a competition where fans could design Pierre’s helmet and that a beautiful design was chosen. I would have loved it even more if the alpha tauri logo wasn’t there. Especially that big. It would have looked so cool and given me an 80′s disco vibe if the whole colourful design was fully around the helmet, without the logo. But I guess with this one I just pretend the logo isn’t there. It's still so good though.

8: Sebastian Vettel Abu Dhabi (ferrari tribute) helmet.

Now I wasn’t sure which helmet of Seb I liked more, this helmet or the Styrian helmet. I decided on this helmet, because it’s such a Seb helmet and reminded me of one of his Red Bull helmet (which is prettier than this one tbh). But also because I think there’s a special concept to this helmet. This obviously could be wrong but to me this helmet is a bit of ‘self reflect’ for Seb. You obviously have the achievements with Ferrari on there and his famous quote ‘grazie ragazzi and the helmet has a bit of a mirror effect. but the colours to me that especially are being used in the number 5 tells me his F1 adventure (past and future). The colours start (in the number 5) with the Redbull colours, than goes into the red(Ferrari) which blends in with a little pink and goes straight to the green(AM). So I really like this little detail even if it wasn’t on purpose, which sorry but I am convinced it is.

7: The pink Hulkenberg helmet

I’m not gonna lie, I kind of had forgotten about this helmet, but as I’ve been looking back at these helmets this one has been really catching my eyes and is so well done. I find Pink a very hard colour to work with anyway, definitley the bright pink that just screams at you. And the fact that the bright pink isn’t overpowering with the pastel pink and white makes this helmet just nice to look at. The things that needs to grab your attention, grabs your attention and the fact that it has stripes going vertically over the helmet is one of my favourite design choices you can do with helmets so I absolutely love that. If a driver is doing a pink helmet, then this is what I love to see. Very beautiful.

6: Jack Aitken Abu Dhabi helmet

Now this one I was pleasent surprised by. Lets just put it this way: It’s a busy helmet well done. This is also a helmet that is just nice to look at it. Using these kinds of shapes that go from small once to big once is not easy to make it not look messy and the way they've done the white spaces inbetween the shapes is really well done. It looks like a puzzle that fits well and I have nothing bad to say about this. The color scheme with this one is just amazing. Really really love this one.

5: Lewis Hamilton purple helmet (bahrain)

I haven’t been a fan of Lewis’s helmets before BUT LET ME TELL YOU, this season he has really been bringing it. I am in love with the use of purple. Such an underrated color in this sport. And why? I have no clue. Purple is creative, magic, rich colour. How has it not been used more? It looks so good on this helmet, especially the Bahrein one with the glitter. Very pretty, good job Lewis. Finally! I have nothing bad to say about this helmet. The stars for his champions, the blm message on it. A good helmet right here.

4: George’s Abu Dhabi GP helmet

I guess a lot of drivers saved their best helmet for last... When I saw this helmet for the first time I was legit in love with it. I love that this helmet is for Frank and Claire and showing the success of Williams which haven’t been showed the last couple of years. But the use of the two dark blue shades with the white lines is complimenting all three colours so beautifully. I really hope George keeps those three colours and make a different kind of design as his main helmet because this looks beautiful to me. I wouldn’t even know anything bad to say about this helmet. Love it.

3: Alex’s Abu Dhabi GP Helmet

Now this one might come as a surprise and I don’t think anyone would’ve picked this one out as a number three BUT HEAR ME OUT. I’m absolutely OBSESSED with the cartoonish design that’s going on with this and it stands out a lot more compared to all the other Red Bull helmets that have been designed since 2015. To me they’ve been all looking kind of the same but this one to me is just so unique while still being a very RedBull helmet. The black outlining makes all of the colours pop out so much more and just the whole cartoon vibe is just right up my alley. If I were to design helmets, the whole cartoon vibe would be what I do and I think that’s one of the main reasons why this helmets speaks to me so much. Like I absolutely love it.

2: Seb’s Tuscan GP helmet

This was the hardest decision, because to me this is a clear number one. I have something with old designs coming back. And I LOVED Seb’s 2019 Monza helmet which was a love letter to the old helmets and I LOVE this helmet for the same reason, but even more so of how creative this is. Obviously it was the 1000GP for Ferrari so there was the inspiration. But I’m just obsessed with the way the old side looks. How they used an old drawing of the old racing car and made it really work. Like it almost looks like an old world map but to a racing driver. I’m obsessed with this side. But also I’m obsessed with the way it goes from the old side to the new with the old looking colours to the vibrant almost neon ‘now’ colours... is just amazing. I probably would’ve loved it even more (if that was possible lmao) if the old side was all around the helmet, but you just have to love this concept. For a 1000gp celebration it’s so good and well thought while still keeping your main design helmet in there. I would love to have this helmet. So cool.

1: Sebastian Vettel diversity helmet

Is it really a surprise that this one is on number one though? Now I’m gonna be honest with you, even though I absolutely love this design, it’s the combination of the design and the extremly strong message this helmet brings to the table that makes this helmet a number one of the season. This helmet is so special I will be thinking about this helmet in probably 10 years still. Now let me talk about the design. The stripes of rainbow where usually the German flag is (which I said before) something I’m obsessed with. I really love a helmet that has stripes going vertically over the helmet. I don’t think a lot of drivers use that and obviously Seb’s Ferrari helmet is known for that design and is so iconic. Your eyes will go straight to the vertically stripes, which in this case are the rainbow colours. But that’s not all. On the side you have all these unique illustrated people. Every character on there is differently that you almost could say you could ‘find yourself’ in there. It really shows the message of this helmet. What I also love and probably is a detail that is a forgotten detail, is how the number five slowly fades with the background. I’m very curious if that’s just a design choice, but I almost would think there’s a concept in that alone. Overall this is just a mind blowing helmet. I have nothing bad to say about it. It’s a beautiful design with an amazing message that should be talked more about in this sport.
