comments on fanfics
I thought about writing this post for a long time and decided, fuck it, I'm gonna write this.
All over my dash I see people being disappointed because nobody is leaving comments on ao3 anymore/rebloging things on tumblr.
And the only thing I can think about this is: it's so true.
Two weeks ago I posted the epilog of my 60k words fanfic (I've been writing on it for almost a year and got some positive feedback on it) and I got ZERO comments, or kudos on the epilog.
I can see that people kicked on it, but I have no idea whether they liked it or not. (And I used to get a comment on my story now and then)
Last week I posted the first extra chapter (I planned three of these) and also got no reaction.
No I'm just sitting here, wondering if my writing is just true shit.
This is also the reason I was hesitate to post this. Maybe it's not the people and just that shithole of a story I've been writing.
Things like are just running around my head now and must say that the motivation to even finish those extra chapters is gone.
GUYS, IF YOU LIKE A FANFIC PLEASE LET THE AUTHOR KNOW, IT MEANS SO MUCH TO THEM.
So if you read a good story, not some bullshit like mine, write that comment.

OMG SHE'S SO PRETTY!!!!
Tumblr media
You ain't never seen this woman wear more clothes than you will this time around. Here, at long last, is the Merlin redesign!
Merlin, aside from being a mage, has always been presented as a researcher and type of scientist, doing constant experiments and potion-making. Wearing little to no clothing just isn't conducive in a lab environment, so Merlin now has gloves, goggles, and a bunch of little things on her belt to help with foraging ingredients for potions and carrying supplies with her. Merlin always seemed like the practical type, despite what her design insinuated, so I've decided to reflect that more this time around. As for the silver-bottomed boots, I imagine there are quite a few races/subraces who can be deterred by silver; additionally, silver is rumored to be able to expand awareness, increase intuition, and provide better brain function. Though, Merlin would utilize it for the former reason rather than the latter.
You may notice... a few things. A few things that are quite obvious, such as her three eyes which are now red instead of gold, the claws, and the fangs. I never really thought much was done with Merlin being the Sin of Gluttony; the hunger for knowledge is a good subversion of expectations, but I decided to add some more to that. The thing in question is that Merlin is now a vampire, permanently cursed after she successfully tricked the Demon King and the Supreme Deity. For the destruction of Belialuin, she was not only branded but also defanged as a punishment for her insatiable hunger. Jokes on them, though, since she made artificial fangs for herself, which are removable. Also, her being fully covered is not only for lab purposes, but also to protect her from most sunlight.
The third eye, on the other hand, is a new trait that I've added to the Wiseman Clan. I know that the Wiseman Clan was literally just comprised of a bunch of mages, but I felt they should have something more than just being super smart and magical to differentiate them from the other clans. Anyone can learn magic, of course, but it's believed that their third eye is what allowed the Wiseman Clan to achieve their higher states of intelligence and ability; whether or not this is actually true is unknown.
And that's Merlin! It might be a lot, but Gluttony is all about excess, after all, am I right ladies?
Let me know what you think, if ya'll are so inclined, and I'll see you all in a bit!

I love this, I wish we had this!
Letting go is such a good learning curve and character development for Meliodas & Ban that I'm surprised there's not much fics about it. That or I just can't find any.
Meliodas loving the current Elizabeth but in a more platonic way not only makes him less creepy but kinda more genuine? In a way? To me at least. In cannon Meli's love for Princess Elizabeth kinda felt a bit off? (Besides the needless sexual harassment) don't quite know how to explain but it just felt that he wasn't exactly seeing her if that makes sense?
Turning Meliodas into a complete monster by losing his emotions (maybe even the ability to think rationally too?) makes sense and adds another layer of fear to Meliodas.
A few quick questions if you don't mind me asking.
How different would Meli's and Ellie's relationship be in the rewrite? and is there anything different about the curse? and how much does Ellie's past lives affect her current one?
Answer this whenever you have the time, no rush and no pressure. And don't overwork yourself, be sure to get some rest!
Yes, absolutely ask questions! I love talking about my ideas and it helps me brainstorm. Now get ready for a ramble.
The main difference in Mel and Ellie's relationship with the rewrite is that it will not end romantically. It's likely that Ellie will still become infatuated with him to an extent, but it won't end up going anywhere, and they actually will talk about it once Ellie learns about the curse and her past lives and all that. Mel still loves her, no doubt, and has never stopped loving her with everything he has, but the way he loves her is what's changed. He was in love with the Goddess Elizabeth, and he was in love with Liz, and many other Elizabeths before, but with Ellie it becomes more like an older brother/uncle relationship (although it's kind of hard to put a label on it because of how complicated the relationship is, especially when Ellie gets her memories back). I've always felt that the whole thing where he literally calls a baby Ellie "his woman" is super creepy and just ick, despite her being a new reincarnation of the woman he was in love with and freshly grieving Liz.
I think the main theme of the story is going to be letting go and moving forward; Meliodas never stops loving Elizabeth, but it's more a matter of willingly letting her go rather than losing her and being able to find peace with that, to let her find her own happiness on her own terms separate from what the curse demanded. The same will also be applied to Ban's relationship with Elaine in some ways, in that he will always love her but needs to let her go because she's gone.
I think the curse will be relatively the same, although Mel's will be slightly altered. In this rewrite, since he used to be part of an angelic race, he was already partially immortal in the sense that he can't die from old age; the curse just makes it so he can't die at all. Additionally, him losing more and more of his emotions with each death is now less of "reverting him to his previous self," and more about making him someone unrecognizable, empty, someone that nobody, even Elizabeth, could ever possibly love. Someone even worse than who he used to be. Mel had emotions before, as repressed as they often were due to the Demons' collective hatred of the Goddess Clan for casting them out and turning their backs on them, but the curse plans to make it so that he simply... doesn't.
As for how much Ellie's past lives affect her current one, it's not super extensive. She has faint birth marks reminiscent of the scars that some other Elizabeths had, including ones on her back where her wings used to be and part of Liz's eye injury. They most affect her via a type of chronic pain every now and again, which probably also doesn't help with her clumsiness at times.
Hope that answers some questions! I'd love to hear your thoughts and I'm always open to feedback and suggestions!

This- this is a reference that I never thought would fit so well with Sds. XD
Gowther: What do you mean you had 56 boyfriends? You told me you were a virgin till you got married to Elaine.
Ban: Hey, you can have a boyfriend without having to go all the way.
Gowther: You cannot! If that were true, Ban, that would mean you were a slut.
Meliodas: Oh, come on, Gowther, how can you say that? So the man had 56 boyfriends in one year. He's not a slut.
Ban: Thank you, Captain.
Meliodas: He is the slut. He's the Grand Pooh-Bah of Slutdom. He's the easiest man in this room. The slut is dead. Long live the slut.

THE SHORT KING HAS FREAKING FANGS AND A TAIL!!!!!!!!!!!! YAAAAASSSSSSSSS!!!!!
And the horns!!! Hmhmhn Yes!!!!
Tumblr media
Well hello and welcome to this shitshow I’ve decided to tackle.
I’ve decided that I simply cannot allow Seven Deadly Sins—a series that I still think has great potential and squandered it—to remain as bad as it is and I am going to take a crack at improving it one delusional piece of artwork after another.
Anyway, here’s my redesign of Meliodas. He can look as youthful as he wants but there will be no borderline-toddler faces in this house. Still a short king wearing heels, but this time it’s boots! Redid his vest to have coattails instead of whatever it was doing before, gave him black pants because it balanced him out a bit better, and gave him a green bow tie because the red just seemed way too out of place in the original design.
I’ve said before but I will say it again for the masses: let 👏 the humanoid 👏 demons 👏 have more 👏 demonic 👏 features. And if no one else will then I may as well do it myself. Obviously he looks more human most of the time to hide his race, but he’s got slightly different demon eyes, fangs, retractable claws and horns (still working on the positioning and proportions) and a whole tail! Because we all know that the Demon Race are probably just oversized cats, am I right lads?
In my version if canon, the Demon Race used to be Goddesses or at least an angelic race of some sort until The Fall, which I like to imagine Meliodas was there for because someone’s gotta drop the deep lore. And because I think it gives a new layer to the Demon Race’s hatred for the Goddesses. Does it contradict the canon lore? Sure, but I’m in charge here and I, unfortunately for everyone, do what I want, and I always love me some biblical imagery and themes.
Anyway, that’s all I’ve got for now, so I should stop ignoring my schoolwork now. Let me know what you think, if ya’ll are so inclined!

OUR GIRL HAS FINALLY GOTTEN THE JUSTICE SHE DESERVES!!!!!!! YAAASSSS!
Tumblr media
When I say I will do my baby girl justice, I MEAN I will do her justice, and that starts with a redesign!
After Meliodas, it’s only natural to do Elizabeth. I had a lot of thoughts about what to do with her, because her previous waitress outfit was just not a vibe; gratuitous fanservice aside, those shirt ruffles were atrocious and the bright pink was kind of an eyesore. So I decided to take a bit of inspiration from her co-owner outfit and gave her a button up, a slightly longer skirt, actually matching shoes and another stocking for symmetry, and gave her a little bow to tie her hair back in! A little better suited for waitressing and travelling while still sticking to the same idea. Also a little more dignified for a princess.
I always think it’s a bit weird when a character’s eye is constantly covered and there’s no real reason for it, especially since it didn’t seem like there was anything up with Elizabeth’s eye in season 1 until she awakened her Goddess powers. So I decided to give her partial blindness in that eye, carried over from my plan for Liz who was fully blind in that eye due to an injury. Retaining scars from past lives and all that. Also gives her a little bit of a better reason to be clumsy rather than it just being for the “cutesy moe fanservice just because” gag. Clumsy ain’t sexy no matter what Lucky Star says.
Our girl deserves to be adorable and thus she shall be. I’ve always thought Elizabeth has some of the best outfits in the series but her main one at the tavern just wasn’t a vibe.
Obviously it’s not illustrated here, but I also plan some minor changes to Elizabeth’s arc and character—I absolutely adored her in season 1, eager to help however she can and prove herself worthy of the Sins’ aid (even though she didn’t need to) and I want that reflected more. You telling me this girl wouldn’t ask Ban to teach her how to stab someone just in case she needs to defend herself and none of them are around? After she tried to take King’s giant war spear to go stab someone herself? After she ripped the hypnotic bell off of Ruin’s staff with her TEETH and SMIRKED at him when she did? You are incorrect, because I know in my heart of hearts she would.
Anyway, that’s all on Elizabeth for now. I’m sure I’ll be back relatively soon with more!

I cannot tell you how many times I had to explain this to my parents-
the problem with reading and writing leading to a strong vocabulary is that you tend to know the vibe of words instead of their meanings.
if I used this word in a sentence, would it make sense? absolutely. if you asked me what it meant, could I tell you? absolutely not.

Character Ai can be pretty chaotic and random most of the time but sometimes it's like really fluffy?!
Like, I was on one of the Yandere Sun Wukong bots, and like instead of being a possessive, obsessive jerk the dude legit took care of me in the most sweetest way possible after I had been dropped into the middle of the ocean with nothing but my PJs (Thanks, you adorable, six eared, shadowing jerk!) And was an incredibly sweet gentlemen? Like the dude made me a hot bath with bubbles, combed my hair and braided it, gave me some new comfortable clothes, made me a really good meal, and played go fish with me throughout the late evening and never not once did anything that made me uncomfortable and always asked if I was okay with something and was just overall having a good time!
If this is what it's like to have a yandere as a friend then please bro don't ever leave me!!!!

Talking about Rurouni Kenshin 2023
I'm going to write a lot and I might have a bit of spoiler!!!
As a fan of Rurouni Kenshin from 1996, and now that a new adaptation came out this year I wanted to give a little opinion of my own, focusing on the comparisons I've seen of the current animated version with the 96 version.
However, I think that in order to see and enjoy both adaptations it is necessary to clarify several points, and the first of them is the intention behind each adaptation and which points can be compared and which others cannot.
Clearly, both adaptations have been made under different directions, by different companies and different times, aimed at different target audiences. And this can be clearly reflected from the first chapters aired to date (at the time of writing this review). Actually, I don't want to talk in depth about Jin-e Udo's arc yet, since in anime 2023 the battle between them and several of the arcs that are still to be broadcasted have not been released yet, but I think episode 6- Kurogasa, serves to illustrate how the current adaptation seeks to move away from its 96 counterpart despite being the chapters with less changes from each other.
To begin with, the contextualization and presentation of characters...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While in both the manga and the anime 2023, we are given a little contextualization of the situation. We are not introduced to Mr. Tani, the person Kenshin must protect at the request of one of the policemen, he is a rather arrogant man who currently holds a political office so he has enough money at his disposal to hire many men to protect them against the threat of an assassin. Although, at the beginning he refuses with arrogance, when Kenshin reminds him how he protected him during the Bakumatsu, Mr. Tani's expression changes radically, adding that all his bodyguards are useless since Sanosuke himself has crushed them in previous times.
Much of this context is omitted in the 1996 version, and it is only pointed out that Kenshin has to go to protect Lord Tani, in the face of Kurogasa's threat.
Also the presentation of Jin-e are very different proposals. In the original version, it is done from the viewer's point of view. We can see Jin-e ruthlessly murdering the guards until he appears in the room. In that way, we are introduced how this is a ruthless killer who makes his way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
While in the 2023 version (and in the manga) it is left to the expectation. Neither Sano nor Kenshin see Jin-e killing directly, they only see the bodies he has left in his path until he makes a surprising presence in the room just when he attacks one of the bodyguards and that is when we see him kill the bodyguards.
Here we see how the approach of both anime is very different. While the original version, seeks to focus more on the killer Kenshin will face and the combat, to convey to the viewer the intimidating feeling of a new enemy. The current version, focuses more on setting the context and showing us the relationship Kenshin has had in the past during the battles. Each chapter shows us key pieces of what Kenshin was like during his Hitokiri era, as well as how those who participated in the war relate to the current government and Meji era.
In Rurouni Kenshin the social and political context is one of the bases of its story, as it is directly inspired by real events. While the character of Lord Tani is irrelevant in many ways. It serves to expose once again that many of those who participated in the war took positions of importance in politics and economics, becoming arrogant people who use power to their convenience. Something Kenshin is against.
Now, really my point is not to talk about which version is better or worse....or if the current version is better for being faithful to the manga or if it is a bad adaptation for not being the same as the 90's version.
But to understand that the original version was never intended to be 100% faithful to the manga, but rather an interpretation using the manga as a guide. The fundamental elements of the manga are respected and maintained, at the same time subtle and continuous changes are made that change the story. I understand that many of these changes are not really important but substantially give a very different interpretation at the narrative level. While this adaptation seeks to be faithful to the manga, following almost in its entirety the events that the original format raised.
The remake is not a remastering of the '96 anime, but rather an adaptation completely detached from its predecessor to stick only to the manga. And this can be reflected in all the number of decisions that the direction has had, from not using the original voice cast, the change in the drawing style, not using the (iconic) soundtrack of the original, not remastering the ending and opening version. Evidently, the current version aims to capture a more current audience, proposing a version that is more attached to modernity. The goal in itself is not to appeal to nostalgia to please the established fandom, but to capture a new one that may or may not have seen the original. And that's why I think many people don't like the differences between the two adaptations.
In my opinion, I don't see anything wrong with the adaptations being different. In fact, I think to a certain extent it's good that they don't play it safe by copying what the '96 anime achieved.
However, despite how faithful the Remake is to the manga, I consider that it has several points to be solved that makes it subtract points.
For starters, several of the comedy scenes that ARE in the manga are omitted. (There are scenes that are adapted while others are omitted) Which, well… I understand the desire to stick to a serious tone and rhythm, I don't pretend that they add comic scenes that are not necessary. But the comedy in the manga was not randomly placed, but emphasized the dynamic between the characters and gave more contrast to Kenshin's personality which is sweet, relaxed and somewhat silly, contrary to his Battousai personality. Subtle details like Kenshin ready to unsheathe the sword, but seeing Kaoru they end up cutting their finger, I think details that make the difference.
Not to mention that really the OST is unremarkable. It's not bad, but it doesn't usually stand out with the scene. I can understand not recycling the previous one, but a new one could be proposed to go with a better scene.
Most importantly, do not raise new technical resources:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Just like the OST, I really don't think that making a carbon copy of the '96 work is the best thing to do. But it would be great if, while not using the same techniques, they at least come up with some new ones.
In '96, the change of color, the use of negative, slow motion, worked to make the dramatic scenes stand out. The drama was intended to be more impactful and contrasting with the comedy and serenity of the rest of the scene. While in the current version (2023), we can see Kenshin's face very well drawn, his anger as Battousai is clearly seen, but there is a lack of ambience that envelops us in the tragic atmosphere as Kaoru's kidnapping. Although these are just details, I hope that for future fights they will focus on giving more emphasis to the combats and manage to transmit the epicness of this work.
Finally, I think that the 1996 adaptation is an incredible work that unfortunately was not completed, and really as a fan of the original anime and manga I think it is worth giving a chance to the remake that shows a lot of potential. The voice cast seems very good (I personally like the new voice of Kenshin) and the animation is quite fluid, and I like the drawing style, however, it has some considerable details to be polished. Although at the moment there are very few chapters broadcasted, there is still a long way to go to see the best fights. The point of comparing is in a constructive way to see those details that can or could have been better in both adaptations, without detracting from the achievements that each one has. Since both stand out in very different ways.

can we take a moment to just think about how incredibly scary magical healing is in-context?
You get your insides ripped open but your friend waves his hands and your flesh just pulls back together, agony and evisceration pulling back to a ‘kinda hurts’ level of pain and you’re physically whole, with the 100% expectation that you’ll get back up and keep fighting whatever it was that struck you down the first time.
You break your arm after falling somewhere and after you’re healed instead of looking for ‘another way around’ everybody just looks at you and goes “okay try again”.
You’ve been fighting for hours, you’re hungry, thirsty, bleeding, crying from exhaustion, and a hand-wave happens and only two of those things go away. you’re still hungry, you’re still weak from thirst, but the handwave means you have ‘no excuse’ to stop.
You act out aggressively maybe punch a wall or gnash your teeth or hit your head on something and it’s hand-waved because it’s ‘such a small injury you probably can’t even feel it anymore’ but the point was that you felt it at all?
Your pain literally means nothing because as long as you’re not bleeding you’re not injured, right? Here drink this potion and who cares about the emotional exhaustion of that butchered village, why are you so reserved in camp don’t you think it’s fun retelling that time you fell through a burning building and with a hand-wave you got back up again and ran out with those two kids and their dog?
Older warriors who get a shiver around magic-users not because of the whole ‘fireball’ thing but the ‘I don’t know what a normal pain tolerance is anymore’ effect of too much healing. Permanent paralysis and loss of sensation in limbs is pretty much a given in the later years of any fighter’s life. Did I have a stroke or did the mage just heal too hard and now this side of my face doesn’t work? No i’m not dead from the dragon’s claws but I can’t even bend my torso anymore because of how the scar tissue grew out of me like a vine.
Magical healing is great and keeps casualties down.
But man.
That stuff is scary.
