Chapter 4: Lost and Found
Summary: Tomura continues his escort missions, defies the laws of life and death to make sure he's there for *all* his friends, and brings the story full circle.
Excerpt:
Swallowing hard, Tomura knelt in front of Mon and gently took her face in his hands. “Mon-chan, I need to break a rule,” he whispered. Her ears pricked up. “I think the broadcast is a little behind, so I died already, but I need to go to before I died.” His throat tightened, his fingers prickling as his quirk stirred in reaction to his sudden spike in adrenaline. “Not far, just a few minutes. I need to be there for Dabi. He’s so fucking stubborn! If he dies without someone there, I know he'll do something stupid! I don't know what happens to people who die and refuse to leave, but I bet it’s not good. Dabi as a vengeful ghost isn't something anyone wants. So, I'm going to try.” He smiled crookedly and rubbed behind her ears. “I don’t know who runs this crazy afterlife business, but I doubt they’ll be happy with me. That’s just fine. I’m a villain, breaking rules is kinda my thing, but you’re just Mon-chan. I’m not even sure why I’m explaining this to you.” That was a lie, and Tomura knew it. He was explaining to delay his trip, to spend a little bit longer with his dog, just in case he got on God’s or Buddha's or Whoever’s actual shit list with the stunt he was about to pull.
Giving her one last hug, he stood up. “Mon, go home.” He pointed to the waiting door. Mon whined, her ears pinning back. “Go home,” he repeated sternly. Still whining, little stub of a tail tucked, Mon reluctantly went to the door, paused one last time to see if Tomura would change his mind, then nudged the door open and went inside.
Letting out the breath he’d been holding, Tomura turned and headed down the hall, his black coat flapping out behind him. He reached out as he walked, running his fingers along the wall, letting Decay out. His quirk couldn’t touch this world anymore, but he imagined it eating away what it could touch. He could picture it perfectly, Decay destroying this hall, destroying any barriers that got in front of him, letting him walk wherever he wanted.
The world around him went black. Not black as in behind his eyelids or the times he’d been locked in a pitch dark room for training. This black was…empty. A weird sort of hungry empty that ate up every other sensation. There was nothing to hear, no echo of his footsteps or the sound of his own breathing. He couldn’t feel anything either, not the clothes on his skin or the beat of his heart, not even the feel of the floor beneath his feet. He’s not even sure he’s still walking. No sound, no sight, no sensation… except a sudden and overwhelming sense of being watched that exploded out of nowhere.
Tomura fell to his knees, or thought he did, suddenly hyperventilating. The back of his neck prickled, and he expected to feel teeth sink into the tender skin. It was like every nightmare where he ran from something invisible and deadly, but his body refused to cooperate and he woke up just before it caught him— only this time,  he refused to wake up.
“Let me be there,” he whispered. And he could hear himself. The sound made him jump, and the way each word fell from his lips like it was weighted was almost as terrifying as whatever was watching him. Swallowing, he forced himself back to his feet, and kept walking as he spoke, “I failed them all. I let them die when I should’ve saved them. I can’t undo that, but let me be there for this at least! Please!”
He struggled forward a few more feet, then the feeling of eyes on him vanished.  There was a nearly audible snap! and he tripped… and fell into a frozen wasteland.
The switch from literal nothing to this was painful, a complete sensory overload, and Tomura had to spend a moment coming back to himself. When he could finally think like a human again and not a small, scared animal, he looked around.
Everything was coated in white frost, and thick fog swirled around, obscuring his vision. Dead or not, a shiver slipped down Tomura’s spine and his breath puffed out in a little cloud of condensation. His teeth actually chattered. “D-Damn it, Da-Dabi. W-What d-d-did you d–d-do?”

I can't help but to wonder...since Izuku 'threw' all the OFA vestiges at Shiggy, and he's 'disappeared', if he's not in the vestige world with the previous users. In the most recent episode of MHA Memories, we're reminded that - while "grateful" for AFO - he still wants to be his own person and be better/surpass AFO.
After Izuku targeted his origin and offered him his hand, while simultaneously learning that his entire existence was nothing more than an elaborate orchestration to become a vessel/puppet set up by his OWN FATHER and AFO , I think it's possible that the REAL Tenko, who is now technically free from AFO's hold & influence, would realize that he's not only the best chance at bringing AFO down, but that he might actually want to. Because really, I can't imagine a better vengeance or justice against Kotaro and AFO than Tenko being the one to end it all. That would be the ultimate way for him to be better & surpass AFO, after all.
I wonder if the vestiges, especially Nana (because of feelings of guilt/sense of responsibility), would lend him their power for the sole purpose of helping the heroes.
At this point in the fight, though Izuku still has the embers of OFA, he's still fundamentally quirkless and along with everyone else, is wounded, exhausted, and close to being at their limit. I feel like Tenko having his 'hero' moment would not only be the perfect way to have his character arc come full circle and honour his sister in the process, but the most satisfying conclusion, especially for Izuku who wanted to "save that kid".

If a scene feels flat and you can't figure it out, ask yourself:
• What can MC smell? Is there an ocean breeze, sweat, a cinnamon roll fresh out the oven?
• What can MC hear, besides the dialogue? Is a bird singing, river flowing, a car speeding, clock ticking?
• Can they taste something, even if they're not eating? Previously drunk alcohol or juice, aftertaste of a cigarette, smog, too instense perfume?
• Can they feel something on their skin? Rough clothes or delicate material, blowing wind, an allergy or a rash, grass that theyre laying on?
• What does the character see, besides other characters? Is the room dark or is sunlight coming in nicely? Are the colours vibrant or dull? Are there any plants?
• What's the weather? Is it snowing and the cold is making goosebumps appear on their arms? Is it hot and sweaty and clothes are clinging to their body?
• HOW DOES IT MAKE THEM FEEL? To any of the above.
Do they like the smell of cinnamon rolls or are they weirdos (I'm a weirdo, I don't fit in).
Does the clock ticking calm them down or annoy them?
Do they enjoy the aftertaste of a cig and like how dirty it makes them feel?
Are they sensitive to touch and how their clothing feels on their skin or are they indifferent?
Would they enjoy the scenery more if it was more sunny out, because they're afraid of the darkness?
Do they like it snowy or are they always cold and hate winter?
Come on, give them persoanlity, likes and dislikes, don't be scared to make them people and not only likeable characters.

Just so y’all know: I can’t speak for every other fic author but I can say that I remember when people leave me kind comments. I recognize your urls and/or usernames on AO3. I remember you and sometimes in writing my fics I think to myself, “Oh, I hope this person sees this because they liked x in this other fic I did.”
Not only that—I go back and reread comments when I’m feeling low. I look at tags and reblogs and asks and wish I could hold them in my hand like a note from a friend on an old, torn piece of notebook paper.
Your comments have so much more impact than you know. So thanks to those who use the comment section to spread love and encouragement. We appreciate you.

I find it funny that Izuku was suppose to be a quirkless hero, but it was scrapped cuz horikoshis editor said that it wouldn’t do well in the manga daily
Tumblr media
His name was gonna be Akatani Mikumo, and horikoshi actually wanted him to be more of a Batman type character who gets into U.A though wits and strength
Which looking at the final product, you can definitely see how he kept some of the ideas in. It would also explain his rather odd neediness to want to put in a lot of political and social issues in the manga when Izuku himself is never directly involved, because I think Akatani was suppose to be involved somehow in the story before horikoshi changed it
Which when you put it like that, it would also explain a lot of other things in the sorry
And him liking bakugo so much? Cuz originally, bakugo was very “boring” in his prototype version, and hori thought he would do better in a more slice of life mangaka
Tumblr media
Also it’s worth noting in My official manga translation, first vol, he talks about bakugou and I think he says “He was like that at first. But now; he would make bakugo angry” not “it would make me angry” so… idk.
I’d show a pic but I’m literally at school talking about this LMAO
