Kate, hiding her face in her hands: Oh my god.
Sam: Hey! Get a room!!

What Could Go Wrong?
(oneshot that takes place at some point between chapters 40 and 41)
Ever since Natasha and Wanda went on that mission where Natasha got hurt, Kate had been pretty attached to the both of them. They hoped that they wouldn’t both need to leave for another mission for a while.
However, it seemed as soon as Natasha was fully healed and cleared to work, they were both called on another mission.
And unfortunately Yelena was currently in Russia and Clint couldn’t make it in time.
So Natasha and Wanda asked Steve and Bucky to watch/stay with Kate while they were gone.
“We should only be gone a few days. Four max,” Natasha says as she and Wanda lead Steve and Bucky through the apartment.
It is clear she and Wanda are more than a little nervous to leave Kate. This will be the longest they have been away from her since she was taken by Eleanor.
“Here are Kate’s rules,” Natasha points to the list on the fridge, “she might give you a bit of hard time about sleeping—”
“Mamaaa,” Kate groans out, her face turning red, embarrassed.
“It’s okay Kate!” Steve tries to make her feel better, “I have a similar list for Buck!”
Kate’s face turns redder. She sends an uneasy, embarrassed smile over to Steve before promptly turning her attention back to the TV.
“And lastly, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY,” Wanda points to a phone number at the bottom of Kate’s rule list, “this is the number to our burner phone. Natasha or I will have it on us at all times during the mission. Please don’t hesitate to call it if Kate needs us or gods forbid there is an emergency.”
Steve and Bucky nod.
“Okay, got it,” Steve confirms.
“And,” Natasha says, “I think that is it.”
She looks over at Kate watching TV and a concerned expression takes over her face. Wanda takes her hand and squeezes it lightly.
“She will be okay,” Wanda says comfortingly.
“Yeah,” Bucky agrees, sending them both a confident smile, “You guys will only be gone a few days and she will be with her favorite Uncle Steve and Uncle Bucky. What could go wrong?”
—————————————————————————
*3 days later*
“You just had to say ‘what could go wrong?’ didn’t you?” Steve grumbles as he follows Bucky carrying a sniffling Kate to Medbay.
“How was I supposed to know that a simple game of basketball would turn out like this?” Bucky defends himself.
“It’s okay, Uncle Bucky,” Kate says shakily, trying to keep a brave face.
Bucky smiles down at her, “Don’t worry doll, Helen will be able to fix your ankle right up.”
As they walk into Medbay, Bucky gently sets Kate down on a free bed, and Dr. Cho comes right over.
“What happened here?” Helen asks.
“She twisted her ankle pretty good when we were playing some basketball,” Steve supplies.
Dr. Cho gently manipulates Kate’s ankle, Kate letting out a soft whimper at the movement.
“Well, unfortunately I do believe it might be broken,” Dr. Cho says, “Let’s get you to x-ray to make sure.”
The x-ray confirms Kate has a small break in her ankle, so Dr. Cho swiftly wraps it in a cast, and lets them know that Kate should keep weight off of it for at least two weeks.
As they are leaving, Dr. Cho leans over to Steve, “So let Natasha and Wanda know that I would like to see Kate in two weeks to see how it is healing.”
Steve and Bucky immediately freeze. Dr. Cho notices.
“They don’t know yet, do they?” Dr. Cho asks.
The super soldiers shake their heads no. Helen laughs.
“They are gonna kill you,” she says in a sing-song tone.
—————————————————————————
Steve and Bucky take Kate back to the apartment where, after all the craziness of the day, Kate pretty much instantly falls asleep on the couch watching TV.
Bucky and Steve find themselves in the kitchen staring at the number on the fridge.
They look at the number then back at each other.
A pregnant pause passed before Bucky exclaims, “NOT IT!”
“You can’t call ‘not it’ on this,” Steve says, annoyed.
“I believe I just did babe,” Bucky replies a little too smugly.
Steve frowns. Bucky leans over and kisses his cheek before smiling and making his way into the living room to watch TV and keep an eye on Kate.
Steve sighs and pulls out his phone, dialing the number.
The phone only rings for a few seconds before Natasha picks up.
“Hello?”
“Hey Nat. It’s Steve.”
“Hi Steve. Is everything okay? Is Kate okay?” Her voice instantly becoming concerned.
“Everything is fine—well not fine—but we are okay… mostly,” Steve fumbles, almost nervous to actually tell Natasha what is going on.
“What do you mean, ‘mostly’? What is going on, Rogers?” Natasha’s tone becomes slightly annoyed at Steve’s vagueness.
“Um, well, you see, we were playing basketball with Kate, and she kinda sorta maybe… brokeherankle,” Steve rushes out.
“She what? Oh my god, is she okay?”
“She is okay. She kept a pretty brave face for the whole thing,” Steve supplies, “she is taking a nap right now.”
He hears Natasha sigh tiredly over the line and relay the information to Wanda.
“We will be home in 6 hours.”
Before he can say anything else, the line goes dead.
Steve sighs and looks up at the ceiling.
—————————————————————————
Six hours later, Natasha and Wanda come home to find Kate, sitting in between Steve and Bucky with her ankle propped up on the coffee table, laughing at whatever movie they are watching.
Steve and Bucky turn their heads when they hear the front door close and are met with concerned expressions from Natasha and Wanda.
Natasha and Wanda make their way into the living room.
“Hey malen’kiy yastreb!” Natasha smiles.
Kate turns her head and smiles back, “Mama! Mom! You guys are home early!”
“Of course, milaya,” Wanda comes over and kisses Kate on the temple, “we had to make sure our bug was okay.”
“Oh this?” Kate gestures to her ankle, “I’m fine,” she waves off their concerns with a smile, “Uncle Bucky and Uncle Steve have been taking good care of me.”
Natasha bends down to inspect her ankle a bit before coming over to kiss Kate’s temple as well.
Steve gets up to let Natasha sit next to Kate.
“You sure you’re okay, malyshka?” Natasha asks.
“Yeah,” Kate smiles, “it was a little scary without you and Mom there, but it’s all okay now.”
Natasha smiles at Kate’s bravery and growth, she puts her arms around Kate, “I’m proud of you, baby.”
“Love you Mama,” Kate settles into her embrace.

Kate Headcannons
(in the Malen’kiy Yastreb universe)
TW: allusions to child abuse
Kate and Eleanor were never close. They never really bonded, even before Derek Bishop passed away; things turned ugly two months after he passed. Eleanor blamed Kate for his death and basically forced Kate to become her housekeeper to make up for it: doing all the cleaning, the laundry, making meals, etc.
Kate still feels obligated to clean the apartment when Natasha and Wanda are working long days, despite being told multiple times that she doesn’t need to
Kate has ADHD
Even though Natasha and Wanda are together, Kate was a little nervous about admitting to them she had a crush on America because Eleanor almost kicked her out when Kate told her she was a lesbian
Kate’s favorite days are spent snuggled between Natasha and Wanda just relaxing
There is still a lot about Kate’s past (specifically with Eleanor) that she hasn’t told Natasha about, and she isn’t quite ready to yet
Kate starts looking for engagement rings, for Natasha to give to Wanda, three months after they started dating; she really does hope they thank her in their wedding vows
She still flinches sometimes when she is overwhelmed and overstimulated and Natasha or Wanda moves too fast, her subconscious still not getting the fact that she is truly safe with them
Kate had been calling Natasha ‘mama’ in her head since around Mother’s Day before she started calling her that all the time (she doesn’t remember calling her that when she was sick)
Kate likes to quietly read with Wanda in her favorite spot under the big oak tree on days were she feels too overwhelmed
On really bad days, Kate likes to rest her head on Natasha’s chest so she can hear her heartbeat
Kate is, and will always be, a cuddler
Dr. Cho believes Kate is slightly touch deprived given the way her and Eleanor were never close
No matter how bad Kate is panicking, Natasha’s calm voice, soft touch, and steady heartbeat always help start to calm her down
Natasha trains Kate in self defense in between archery seasons
Natasha, despite being very encouraging, is dreading the day Kate fully takes on the Hawkeye mantle
Natasha basically ‘adopted’ Kate after she met Eleanor for the first time and could see something was wrong
Kate is currently teaching herself Russian, but isn’t telling Wanda or Natasha as a surprise
Sometimes Wanda has to remind herself that Kate and Natasha are not biologically related when Kate makes Natasha’s signature face or says something in an eerily similar way to how Natasha does
There are probably more I am forgetting but these are them for now :) (these were mostly kate, nat, and wanda centered but what else is new lol)

Kate: I just realized… I had a bad childhood.
Natasha, sipping her coffee: Yeah, I know.
Kate: What do you mean you know?
Natasha: Look at you.
Kate: What do you mean, look at me?
Natasha: Look at how you stand.
Kate:
Natasha: People who had good childhoods don’t stand like that.

Rules
(oneshot takes place between chapters 6 and 7 in Malen'kiy Yastreb)
A few days after Kate moved in, Natasha began to notice somethings that were different in the way that Kate acted.
It was no secret that the teen was very respectful and well behaved. She was possibly the most polite teenager Natasha has ever met.
But it was almost to a fault.
There were a lot of things Kate would hesitate to do or remember to ask express permission for before she even thought about doing them. Things that, at least in Natasha's mind, didn't need such permission.
For example, Kate would always ask if she could take a shower or before using literally anything in the apartment.
And there were some other things that were lacking in her day to day life.
After her visit with Dr. Cho, Natasha wasn't shocked to find out that Kate was slightly malnourished and was underweight. The teen seemed to always feel guilty when asking for food outside of meal times, or had forgotten to eat meals entirely.
And don't even get Natasha started on the young archer's sleep schedule. It is a wonder that the kid is able to function at all.
Natasha was at a loss on how to help the poor kid.
No one should be living like this, let alone a young teen.
So, Natasha calls Laura for ideas. While talking, Laura brings up something that her and Clint used for Natasha when she was staying with them right after she defected from the Red Room and was still adjusting to regular life.
A rule list.
It wasn't your traditional rule list. It was more of a guideline of things that were okay to do, or things that were needed to do everyday to keep healthy.
It would be perfect for Kate.
Natasha thanks Laura, and heads to go to talk to Kate.
She walks into the living room, finding Kate on the couch petting a snuggly Lucky.
"Hey malen'kiy yastreb!"
"Hi Tasha!"
"I had an idea," Natasha starts right off the bat, knowing if she didn't Kate might get even more nervous, "I have noticed some things since you have moved in with me."
She watches Kate tense slightly.
"Its nothing bad," Natasha reassures, "I have just noticed that you have been, for a lack of a better term, overlooking some things in your day-to-day life. And hey, everyone does it."
"I'm sorry," Kate looks down at her hands.
"There is no need to apologize; it's okay dorogoy," Natasha gently lifts Kate's chin with one of her hands, "It is one of the things I struggled with when adjusting to living with Clint and Laura a while ago, too."
"Really?"
"Mhm," Natasha hums, "And Laura had a great idea to make a list of 'rules'. They aren't really 'rules' in the traditional sense, but they were things that really helped me. And I think it will really help you too."
Kate smiles softly at Natasha's thoughtfulness.
"What do you think, malen'kiy yastreb?" Natasha asks her gently and comforting, "Should we make one for you?"
Kate takes a minute to think before softly agreeing, "Yeah. Okay!"
Natasha pulls Kate into a hug and Kate melts into her embrace. Natasha smiles.
After all is said and done, the rule list is hung on the refrigerator with a magnetic. The list consists of 7 rules:
There is no need to ask when wanting to use the shower, kitchen appliances, washer/dryer, TV, etc. as long as no one else is using them
Swearing IS allowed (AT HOME)
Two full meals need to be eaten a day (unless sick)
All the food/snacks in the kitchen can be used/enjoyed by anyone at anytime
Bedtime is 12:30 at the latest
If leaving the Compound, Natasha must be informed as to where, when, how long, and with who.
Kate is NEVER bothering Natasha and can ask/talk with her whenever she needs/wants
The list evolves throughout the years. Things are added such as Wanda being added into rule number 6 and 7, and a rule stating that Kate must tell either Natasha or Wanda if she is sick or injured is added after Kate's unfortunate bout of the flu. But in times of struggle, the list is always there to help Kate get back on track.

Anniversaries
(oneshot that takes place between chapters 16 and 17 in Malen’kiy Yastreb)
May 4th.
Most people celebrate this day by bingeing as much Star Wars content as possible.
Others go out to get supplies for margaritas and tacos for the next day.
And some, mostly the people in New York City, they take the day to parade, celebrate, and remember the time the Avengers banded together and saved the city.
But for Kate, it is a day that is filled with heaviness and sorrow.
Kate knew that this year was gonna be different. But she didn’t realize how different it would feel and she definitely didn’t realize how much harder it would hit her.
She barely felt like getting out of bed.
In fact, she didn’t.
Which is why around 10:30 she hears a knock on her door.
“Malen’kiy yastreb?” Natasha calls from the other side of the door, “can I come in?”
Kate lets out the tiniest, “yes.”
Natasha comes into the room and softly makes her way over to the bed. She sits down on the side facing Kate and gently brushes a piece of Kate’s hair back behind her ear, trying to inconspicuously check to make sure Kate doesn’t have a fever like last time she stayed in bed so late.
“Are you okay, malyshka?” Natasha asks, momentarily relieved that she found no evidence of fever or other illness.
Kate shrugs and Natasha frowns, immediately racking her brain to try and figure out why her daughter would be so down.
Then it dawns on her as she remembers and her heart clenches.
That day, for Natasha and the rest of the team, had been victorious but also had its fair share of darkness associated with it. But it is also the day she had found this dysfunctional family.
Shaking her head to clear her thoughts, she looks back down at Kate, who still has dried tear marks on her cheeks, “How can I help? Is there anything you usually do today or is there something specific you want to do? Or would you like to just have a cosy day? It’s totally up to you, dorogoy.”
Kate thinks for a moment before responding. When she does, her voice is slightly hoarse from crying earlier, “There is something that I usually do. And I usually do it by myself, but… I think… I think I want you to come with me this year.”
———————————————————
Kate holds Natasha hand as she leads her down to the familiar path. Once she reaches the stone, she feels Natasha give her hand a gentle squeeze.
Kate looks up at Natasha, who senses Kate’s need for some space and sends her a small comforting smile before releasing Kate’s hand and starts to wandering down the next few aisles.
Kate watches as Natasha slowly distances herself from her. Releasing a breath she didn’t realize she was holding, Kate slowly makes her way closer to the stone and takes a seat on the grass in front of it.
“Hey dad,” she starts softly, “I didn’t bring you any flowers because I know how much you hated them…
“And I want you to know that I am not mad at you for being involved with Kingpin. Unlike some people, I know you were only doing it to build a better life for me. But I won’t lie. Because of that, this past year has been tough. I broke some ribs. There was a nasty trial. Bishop Securities has been dissolved. I was involved in a high speed chase, which was kinda scary but also really cool. Mom’s in jail. She was even more involved with Kingpin than you ever were. And, well, mom’s not even my mom anymore. She fully signed her rights away… and to be honest, I am not even mad about that.
“But as you would always tell me, things happen for a reason. And it’s true. Because of all that, I now enjoy the life I live. I have some great new friends at school, I am on track to win the archery championship in the end of May, and my home life is infinitely better than when it was just me and Eleanor…”
Kate looks up to see Natasha leaning against a tree far enough away to give Kate her privacy but close enough to keep a protective eye on her.
Kate smiles.
“And you’d be happy to know that I finally have a parent that cares and loves me just like you did. You would love her. She is both overprotective and understanding as well as funny and sweet. And—no big deal or anything—but she is literally an Avenger. She is the best thing that has came out of this whole mess. She is the reason I am still here today.
“Just know that now I am finally safe, loved, and being taken care of.”
Kate gets up, dusts her pants off, and leans closer to the stone. She kisses her hand and then rests her hand against it, “love you daddy and I miss you so much.”
Kate walks over to Natasha and throws her arms around her, tucking her head into Natasha’s chest. Natasha immediately reciprocates the embrace and holds Kate tight, dropping a kiss to her temple.
“Are you okay, malyshka?” Natasha asks, softly.
Kate nods, slowly pulling her head back to look at Natasha with a soft smile, “Love you Tasha.”
Natasha kisses Kate softly on the forehead, “I love you too malen’kiy yastreb.”

*Bucky storms in, pissed and armless*
Bucky: I swear I am gonna kill your child one of these days, Natalia!
Natasha: What makes you think that Kate has anything to do with this?
Bucky: Because her and Yelena are always up to shit like this *gesturing to his missing arm* They are little menaces.
Wanda: Come on, Bucky. This is Kate we are talking about. I know her and Yelena like their pranks, but they wouldn't go this far.
*Natasha and Wanda walking in the apartment later find Yelena and Kate laughing hysterically with Bucky's arm on the floor between them*
*Looking up, Kate and Yelena notice them standing there, and they immediately freeze*
Kate and Yelena, at the same time, pointing at each other: It was her idea!
Natasha facepalms.
Wanda, sighing and picking up Bucky's arm: I will go return this.
Natasha: Really, malen'kiy yastreb?
Kate, shrugs and giggles.
