Why?

"Your books are great! Why do you have such a hard time talking about them?"

The short answer: ✨Trauma ✨

The long answer: I have been writing my book series for at least 15 years, that's nearly half my life, and when I finally published (October of 2021: really about a year before that) I had friends ostracize me, the leadership of my church thought I was a involved in witch craft, and I was limited in what I could do, then got "asked to find a new church" at the one I grew up in. As someone who was homeschooled and had no other in person interactions/relationships, that was a huge blow. Not only had I lost friends, but a supposed "family" that backstabbed me (there was a whole fiasco that happened in 2022) and I still don't have any in person social interactions beyond my family and a few people at the local grocer, because I have social anxiety and I'm an introvert. Going from weekly social interaction, to only interacting on the internet is very hard on a person who only had like 5 close friends in the world, and then realized they weren't close at all. I lost not just friends, but people I'd considered family all because I write about a "Controversial subject" (to them, i.e. supernatural, paranormal, and "demonic") that I've loved since I was a teenager. I lost a lot of self-confidence, have had a hell of a time trusting anyone again, and I may be nice, friendly, and cheer on others, but inside I'm f*cking terrified that someone is going to read my books and backstab me again. I've been cyber stalked by people of those churches, and had them actively work to get my content banned, taken down, and/or me removed from sites because I write books about Angels (and demons) who like semi-harmoniously among humans. They hadn't even read the books, just saw the "highlights" I was posting, which wasn't much. OH! And they didn't like that I wore all black {my favorite color} and was starting to delve into darker makeup {not at church of course} but posting pics and going out with dark purple or black lipstick, loved Halloween and all that. because I was "goth" and liked supernatural things, I was a "Satan worshipper"... That was before I went public and started voicing my opinions about the LGBTQ+ community, and how their version of the Bible had flaws 😱Heaven Forbid! 😱 Anyway, all of this, has led me to being more introverted, I find it hard to talk about my books, and worry that they'll be taken the wrong way. My books are 100% FICTION and not meant to be religious. Sure, there is religious aspects, but my books are not "Christian." They are about as "Christian" as the shows Good Omens, Hazbin Hotel, Supernatural, and Lucifer. I myself no longer call myself a "Christian" because I do not want to be associated with a group of individuals that will not, to quote Hazbin Hotel, "Heed the morals they're purveying" and don't follow their own rules.

Anyway, that is the long answer, and I hope it wasn't so long and rambling that I lost some of you. 😓

I woke up with a line from "You didn't know" from Hazbin Hotel on Replay in my head.

"If Hell is forever then Heaven must be a lie. If Angels can do whatever and remain in the sky. The rules are shades of grey when you don't do as you say. When you make the wretched suffer just to kill them again." My friends often compare me to Charlie and I don't argue with them, but I'm realizing that I'm also partly Emily... Let me explain. I grew up in a F.I.B Church and expected the leadership to stick to their morals and follow their own rules. I found out all too fast as an adult that I was wrong and it makes me angry that no one in their churches knows what they're doing and have done to people. All in the name of "Keeping others safe" or "Doing things out of love." So yeah, I'm a Mix of Charlie and Emily...

I loosened my grip on her hand and sat up, but she held on. I stared into the distance, thinking about soulmates and how the Maker gave them to those in His Will, and how bound they were to each other. I thought about all the ones I knew that hadn’t worked out and wondered again why the Maker would pair them together. Then there was another thought, the longer I went without a soulmate, the more I didn’t want one. “They aren’t all bad,” Chaos said. I slowly turned my head to her, and she sat up, so it was easier for me to see her.

Beta Readers: A de-stress Real talk from an Indie Author

As I sit down to edit my October Release: An Angel Ensnared, I find myself worried about my Beta Readers that are working on CRY HAVOC, the April Release.

You see, of the 20 email betas I started with only 3 who have finished the first chunk {1 finished the whole book} 4 quit, 2 moved to ARC reading due to life complications, 1 is now on the Discord sever (& she is amazing ❤️‍🔥), 1 is working on the first chunk. BUT 10 have not responded since I sent out the email. So, I have emailed them again.

I feel like such a nag having to email like this every few days, but I was VERY clear on the due date for the whole book being read and that 1 chunk a week would need to be read to finish by the alloted date. EVERYONE who signed up was reminded of this 3 times. Including in the email that I sent with chunk 1. It's now been almost 2 weeks since I sent chunk 1 and, like I said, were on a big deadly. Only 4 weeks left from today. 🫣

But! Over on my Discord Beta Server: 10 of 13 have finished chunk 1, 1 is non responsive, 2 are working through chunk 1, and 8 of those who have finished chunk 1 have also finished chunk 2, and are eagerly awaiting chunk 3, which drops on Friday Morning. 🥰 I may just have Beta Readers via Discord from now on... Except for a few Email betas who actually look at and respond appropriately to emails!

All that to say this. No matter how many beta Readers you have, only 1/2 to 2/3 (If your lucky) will actually finish the book. So if you want more to finish double the number you're looking for.

I'm also very curious as to how many of the ARC Readers will even finish as I sent out an email to them letting them know that they might want to read books 1-3 or at least book 3 before reading book 4 and only about 10 of the original 30 responded. 🙃

Being a self published, indie author is hard enough without people forgetting to look at their emails, or actually doing what they said they would. So please, if you're looking into Beta Reading, be honest with yourself about how fast you read, check what is going on during the dates given, and be responsible and committed enough to stick to the schedule.

Writing Blog Number 71:

Today's blog is... well, rather short. I'm not doing much writing while on Vacation and that INCLUDES blogs... They'll be shorter and possibly the same in the publishing section, but It's a much needed rest to recoup from everything I did this year.

I will write more about that on the 30th to recap the year and talk about next year.

Last night, I decided that the rest of this month I'm not going to "push myself" to write more. I'm going to relax, play SWTOR, make art, and do some much needed tidying around the house.

Why? Because I was so busy this year. I edited 6 books, Published 4 books, and wrote 2 more books nearly 3, besides regular life crap.

I've not gotten to really "take time off" and with my 7th book coming out Sunday the 17th, on my Birthday, plus my depression, I figured it was time for a little break.

I will still be posting because book release, smashwords sale, and the end of the year sale on my website, plus Saturday blogs, but I just won't be writing story... Unless the mood strikes.
