I don’t really know what people generally call this method of sigil making, so I’m just calling it “Letter Shaping” because you’re using the basic shapes from certain letters. This is the most common form of sigil making, and it allows the most creative influence. As you see above the sigils are for nearly the same thing, yet the sigils came out completely different. Not because the purpose was different, but because I approached them both a different creative way, and that’s what I like so much about this method. There’s a lot of freedom and personalization involved.
(UPDATE: Here’s a link to a guide on how to deconstruct letters down to basic shapes)

Common Misconceptions about Witchcraft 🔮
You have to be a Wiccan to be a witch
I literally thought this until I was 23 years old and started practicing magick again. It’s hard not to believe when nearly every book, guide, and tutorial you come across is geared towards Wicca. Wicca is a religion in which its followers may practice witchcraft. Witchcraft is a practice that may or may not involve religion.
Witches don’t cast curses and if you do, you’re a terrible person
No, stop. The idea that cursing is “bad” stems from the Wiccan “threefold law,” you know, the whole “whatever you do will come back at you three times as much” thing. Not everyone is Wiccan, not everyone follows that belief. You do you, but don’t try to police other people’s craft.
Witchcraft is a religious practice
Witchcraft itself has no religious basis. You can be pretty much whatever religion you want and still practice magick. You can practice witchcraft with no religious preference whatsoever. You can choose to work with deities, or keep your craft entirely secular. Up to you.
Witchcraft is the work of the devil and if you practice witchcraft you’re going to hell
A Christian concept and scare tactic. Not everyone is Christian or even believe in the Christian devil or Christian version of hell.
You have to dress the part
I practice magick in sweat pants and a t-shirt. I find that I work best when I am dressed comfortably, not in some flowly black dress and pointy hat. You don’t have to dress a certain way to be a witch or cast spells. Some witches or magicians have ceremonial clothing that is worn during various rituals but for your every day spell, it’s really not a requirement.
You can call yourself a witch without actually practicing witchcraft
No, I’m not referring to those with chronic or mental illness who practice magick in a minimalistic manner. I’m referring to those who call themselves a witch for the aesthetic and don’t actually practice magick. You don’t have to constantly do spells or even involve magick in your life on a daily basis but you do have to practice magick at some point in order to call yourself a witch.
Witchcraft is inherently dangerous
Practicing witchcraft itself is said by some to invite spirits and entities into your life that are sensitive to the energy we give off, but that may not be true for everyone. Learn how to protect yourself from these kinds of things and you’ll be golden.
You can cherry pick from closed cultures and use those practices in your craft
You don’t have a “gypsy soul,” pizza isn’t your “spirit animal,” having a bundle of white sage doesn’t automatically mean it’s a “smudge stick,” and you should probably throw away that shirt that says “namaste in bed.” A lot of terms we see modern witches use these days have no cultural basis or leg to stand on in their practice. Yes, some cultures and religions are open or partially open but don’t go around disrespecting those that aren’t to sound trendy.
You have to choose one path of witchcraft and stick to it
Ever heard of eclectic witchcraft? You can incorporate many types of magick into your craft and it’s not a problem. Some witches get overwhelmed trying to choose a “type” but you don’t have to if you don’t want to.
You have to be a woman/straight/cis, whatever, to be a witch
Heck nope. There’s no generalized rule that states you have to be a particular gender or sexual orientation to practice witchcraft. Homosexual, trans, and male witches do exist.
You have to be born into a family of witches to be a “true witch”
Witchcraft is a learned practice, not something embedded in our DNA. Even if everyone else in your family is a witch, you can choose not to follow that path. The same goes for those who don’t have any witches in their family history.

Spring Witchy Recipes
Here are some recipes I have made or have been trying out for spring!
Three Flower Sugar -
1 oz lavender
1 dried rose, just the petals
1 oz dried chamomile or honeysuckle
Grind in a mortal and pestle, add ½ cup of sugar and grind until powder fine. Store in pink jar for love spells, self care spells, and to amplify the properties of the flowers.
Uses: Sprinkle on sugar cookies for Beltane rituals, stir into an herbal tea, sprinkle over offerings for the fae, use in a self care spell jar, use in spells to sweeten relationships or communication, etc.
Floral Tincture -
Great for making drinks, baking, or use in potions for Spring celebrations.
equal parts dried lavender, honeysuckle, chamomile, elder flowers, roses etc (I used chamomile, elder flowers, and honeysuckle.)
1 jar (dark jar if possible)
just enough vodka or other 180 proof alcohol to just cover the flowers, maybe ½ in over the dried materials
Place flowers into jar, cover with alcohol and shake vigorously.
Store in a dark cool place.
Shake periodically
let steep for 4 weeks or more
Strain through a fine mesh strainer/coffee filter or muslin cloth, squeeze excess out of the flowers.
Strain through coffee filter or muslin cloth once more and bottle in a glass bottle/jar.
Uses: Use in cooking recipes like you would vanilla extract or other baking flavorings, use an eye dropper to drop into sparkling water/tea for a refreshing drink, use like bitters in a martini recipe, use for potions or spells, etc.
Lavender Meyer Lemon Mint Tea -
From the book “infuse”
8 sprigs of fresh mint
4 sprigs dried lavender
4 Meyer lemon peels
30 oz of water
Combine all ingredients in a pitcher in the refrigerator over night (for at least 10 hours). A relaxing and refreshing drink for  all spring celebrations. :) Also can be used for cleansing and purifying properties to boost your Spring Cleaning, from the inside out.

If you had one piece of advice for a beginning witch, what would it be?
I have been looking forward to this ask since I saw it come in my askbox, and have been mulling it over and over in my head.
Honestly, the one piece of advice I would give to a beginning witch would have to be, Don’t try to over-complicate things!
Witchcraft is a very personal practice. It is incredibly different from witch to witch to witch. No two will cast a spell teh same way, or have the same correspondences for the same items, or believe the same things, and I’m sure you’re thinking, “Yeah but look at all those herbs I can’t pronounce and those crystal collections that have 200 more than mine, and she has cool shaped candles and he has a zillion books and they make really good sigils and and and…”
STOP.
You can ask any person on this website (and probably in real life too) about their practice, and how they think theirs is, in comparison with others. And every single one will tell you that “It’s different.” That is the beauty of witchcraft! It can be as simple or as complicated, as beautiful or as bare, as scary or as soft as you want it to be. Let me show you something.
Tumblr media
This is obviously, a jar of rocks. I picked up these rocks in an empty lot on my way home from work one day. They are all made from the same thing, probably some kind of commercial gravel stuff. Nothing special about them.
I use them more than anything else in my practice. There rocks are one of my most vital pieces of my craft. Because while right now they are “just rocks,” after I’m done with them, they are little spells all their own. i will enchant them in different ways and use them all for different things. I might whisper all my frustrations into one, and throw it out the car window to banish my anger. I might spit on four of them and bury them around my property for warding. I might colour them with markers to make little poppets, I could kiss them and give one to my girlfriend as a reminder of my love, I might use them to help me ground, I might just shake the jar gently to create some music, maybe I use them to build little cairns for Hermes in different places. Do you see my point?
These things were just rocks until I decided to use them as something witchy. When I need herbs that I don’t have, I literally go pick grass and just enchant it with the properties I need. It is that simple.
So you see my little one, witchcraft is all about you. That is what is at the center of witchcraft.
YOU YOU YOU YOU YOU.
It doesn’t matter how many crystals you have, or candles you can collect, or herbs you can name off the top of your head. It is literally about what YOU want to do.
OWN THAT.

Ok, witches! I gotta tell you about meteorological symbols!
There’s one for every weather condition you can think of! You can probably find a longer list in the back of a dictionary, or just search Google images.
You can use them as sigils on their own, or use them as inspiration to make your own sigils!
Use them for weather summoning!
Use the symbols as a substitute for certain weather conditions! For example, if a spell calls for rainwater and you live in the desert, use the meteorological symbol for heavy rain.
Use the metaphorical attributes of the symbols in spells! For example, a hurricane for added energy, or fog for concealment.
The list goes on!

Potions 101 Overview
Tumblr media
what is a potion?
a potion, is any drink made to have a magical effect. from the latin potio and the french potare , a poisonous drink. however, as the connotation of the word has changed with popular media, it doesn’t have to poison anybody, in fact, let’s try not to do that.
types of potions:
there are many names for potions, and they indicate different methods of creation and application.
Infusion  -  a drink prepared by soaking the leaves of a plant or herb in hot water or alcohol for 5-10 min. to be drunk when cooled
Decoction  -  an infusion prepared by simmering a tougher substance, such as a bark, for 10-30 minutes. to be drunk.
Tincture -  a medicine made by dissolving a herb in alcohol for a week. to be taken sparingly in small amounts
Vinegar - similar to a tincture, but instead of alcohol, vinegar is used. to be added into other foods in small amounts
Syrup -  ingredients that are preserved in sugar solution, a reduced infusion/decoction with added sugar. to be taken sparingly in small amounts
Poultice -  a soft, moist mass of fresh chopped plant material, applied to the body with a cloth.
⚠️ safety first! ⚠️
however, knowing how the potion is prepared does not necessarily mean it is safe to use or consume, that depends on knowledge of the herbs you’re working with, how much of one herb is healthy to ingest, how they interact with other chemicals, and awareness of any allergies you might have to them.
under no circumstances, is it recommended or legal to put a potions or herbs in someone else’s drink/food without their knowledge or consent.
⚠️ please avoid working with toxic or dangerous ingredients unless you have the proper training, for your own safety.
⚠️ ask your doctor about herbs conflicting with any medications you’re taking, before consuming herbal potions
⚠️ take extra precautions with herbal ingredients when pregnant or dealing with a medical condition.
end note :
the idea of making a potion can be daunting, there are so many factors to get right, the herbs, combinations, potency, the preparation, storing, side effects or drug interactions, etc. however, to potions do not have to be a dangerous or complicated activity.
a potion can be a simple, subtle brew of coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or infused water, with simple, everyday ingredients added that correspond to various uses. these fall under infusions, the simplest type of potion to make, which is in fact what tea is. for beginners, working with ingredients you are familiar with that have not caused you problems before is the best route to take.

Heal What Has Been Hurt
Tumblr media
A spell to speed healing
So this has probably been done to death, but here you go.
(Also, if the injury is bad enough to need stitches or worse, don’t be a fool, go to the hospital first!)
What you’ll need!
Your lovely voice
A  length of cloth, enough to wrap around the wound a couple of times (preferably yellow or gold, or purple with the sun’s flower embroidered on it)
 Easy peasy
Step 1.
Clean and bandage the injury and apply whatever medicines you would normally. And make sure your cloth is clean as well.
Step 2.
Ground and center yourself, or prepare for the spell how you normally would. Take the cloth and wind it around the injury. (Loosely! It’s not a tourniquet, don’t cause any further damage!)
Step 3.
Start to sing the song.
The lyrics are as follows:
“Flower, gleam and glow Let your power shine Make the clock reverse Bring back what once was mine
Heal what has been hurt Change the Fates’ design Save what has been lost Bring back what once was mine…
What once was mine”
And here’s a link for those who want to hear it
As you sing, visualize the words as golden light, coming from your lips or your hands, and wrapping themselves around the cloth, filling it with healing energy. Repeat the song until you feel like the cloth is practically dripping.
Tumblr media
As you repeat the last lyric, visualize the light being absorbed into the injury. Then unwrap the cloth and set it aside.
Step 4.
Repeat as often as you’d like until the wound is healed. Clean the cloth in between each session.
And Viola! One healing spell!

Witchy Tip:
If you can, when jarring stuff you’re going to use exclusively for magick, color code it. Red for non-edible, green for edible. Is that rosemary straight from the herbs and spices cabinet from the kitchen? Label it green. Oh, that’s not culinary lavender? Label it red, you gotta remember that.
And for when you’re perusing through your jars to see what things would work best for the spell you’re whipping up, it’d be very helpful if you listed the magickal and/or medicinal properties on the back of the jars beforehand. It helps save you time for those moments in life where you have to throw together a spell and you don’t have time to flip through your BoS or Google to find a spell to cast.
putting the properties on the back has also proved to be a good studying technique. It reminds me of how one studies by use of flash cards.

Crafting A Spell Jar and Personal Update
As my followers know I have been going through some personal issues. It was recently confirmed that my partner has cancer. We had been hoping for a different diagnosis but the results are in. We have started chemo and it has caused a great deal of disruption.
For the first time in a few weeks I was compelled to do a little witchcraft and created a spell jar. While this is in no way Wicca-specific, it is witchcraft related and I decided to post it here. So this post will be going over Spell Jars.
Please note that due to my time constraints I am still not taking anymore questions. I will be opening my ask someday soon, but right now I’m just playing everything by ear. Also, because this is costing so much my 10,000 k giveaway will have to wait. I offer my deepest apologies for everything being so out of whack.
Let’s go do some happy witchcraft, okay? It’s October…tis the season!
What is a Spell Jar?
A spell jar is also known as a bottled spell or a spell bottle. It is a jar/bottle/flask that has had a spell cast into it for a specific purpose. There are versions of Spell Jars in European Witchcraft, Latin American Charms, Hoodoo craft, and many others.
The look like this:
Tumblr media
Or this:
Tumblr media
Or even this:
Tumblr media
Or if you wanna get professional about it Check these babies out:
Why a Jar?
A spell jar “holds” a spell. It is literally a spell you can carry around with you. Some spell jars are a one time use item and some act as a charm to be carried around, placed somewhere, or buried at a specific place.
Why use a spell jar?
I questioned the logic of using a spell jar on many occasions. What was the point? Why not just cast a spell? Was it really any different? The answer is strangely yes…and no.
No: A spell jar is no different from a ‘normal’ spell. You use the herbs, you say the things, and then you will it into happening. Same stuff, different day.
Yes: (Please note this is only my opinion and what I have observed. I have little to no way to test this particular theory.) A spell jar differs from a spell in the fact that you trap the energy inside the vessel. You don’t automatically release it into the cosmos and hope whatever you were harkening to you was listening. A spell jar gives you the ability to do several things. 1) Hand the jar to a person so that the energy goes to them. This works really well for Healing work and healing rituals, and bonding spells. While I do not promote it, these are also useful when doing the opposite of all of those things. 2) When you need a spell to last a certain period of time. When the spell is ‘over’ you can open the jar and release the spell. This works when using any attraction spells (looking for romantic partners, trying to attract wealth, or prosperity in general) 3) When you need to bless a place in a very solid way. You can take a spell jar and bury it to consecrate and ward a spot. Homes and domiciles are the first thing that come to mind for this. But if you are opening your own shop this could work as well.
So there you have it, my theories and reasoning behind why a spell jar is super useful and where it is going to do you the most good in witchcraft.
Whew.
Now! On to the actual making of the spell jar, or as I like to call it:
How To Do The Thing:
First you are going to need some supplies:
Alright!
A Jar
A spell you trust and are comfortable with
The supplies necessary for that spell
A way to close the jar
The will to get 'er done.
I realize that this list is really vague in comparison to what I normally like to give. But the fact is a spell jar can literally be any spell so long as you have the mind to make it into a jarred spell. And that jarred as in vessel not jarred as in a shocking jolt. You know, in case you were wondering.
Now, cast the spell. Use whatever crystals, stones, herbs, sigils, writings, ashes, or what have you to make the spell complete but place these items into the spell jar*. When you get to the end of the spell close the jar. Some people seal a lid with wax if they are intending to make the spell pretty permanent.
*Note- If this spell jar is intended for a specific person having a picture or personal effect of theirs can help strengthen the bond of the spell.
Spell jars are what I think of when I think of the higher level of witchcraft, of course that’s probably because I spend too much of my time playing RPG’s…who knows. They take a little creativity and a little more planning, but they are absolutely worth it in the grand scheme of things.
So there we go! Best of luck in the spell craft business and I wish you all the greatest of blessings.
Let me know if this was useful?

~*~ “Letting Go” Jar
Something to put your guilts, fears and hiccups into. Draws away their power, cleanses them, and protects you. Very soothing.
- empty jar - epsom salt - turquoise stones (could use black stones too) - lavender oil - problems written on scraps of paper – put the lid on tightly and shake –
Most spells like this say to bury the jar or hide it in your closet - but that’s the opposite of what you want to do with your problems. It’s sealed, put it on your shelf if you want and add to it/shake it whenever. Looking at it should remind you you’re so much bigger than those problems; you’ve let go of them.

The Isis/Auset Knot
From the Egyptian Book of the Dead
At the ends of the universe is a blood red cord that ties life to death, man to woman, will to destiny. Let the knot of that red sash, which cradles the hips of the goddess, bind in me the ends of life and dream. I’m an old man with more than my share of hopes and misgivings. Let my thoughts lie together in peace. At my death let the bubbles of blood on my lips taste as sweet as berries. Give me not words of consolation. Give me magic, the fire of one beyond the borders of enchantment. Give me the spell of living well.
Do I lie on the floor of my house or within the temple? Is the hand that soothes me that of wife or priestess? I rise and walk. The sky arcs ever around; the world spreads itself beneath my feet. We are bound mind to Mind, heart to Heart— no difference rises between the shadow of my footsteps and the will of god. I walk in harmony, heaven in one hand, earth in the other. I am the knot where two worlds meet. Red magic courses through me like the blood of Isis, magic of magic, spirit of spirit. I am proof of the power of gods. I am water and dust walking.
Normandi Ellis- Awakening Osiris: A New Translation of the Egyptian Book of the Dead.
