Hey, can I request zoro x reader (established relationship) where the Strawhats end up going to reader’s home island (unknown to anyone in the group aside from reader), and the reader is super nervous and refuses to leave the boat, so the crew goes out and walk around and they find a missing/wanted poster of the reader and find out she’s a run away princess that needed to be. Later they coke to find out that reader ran away cause her parents and the servants mistreated and was about to marry her off to a violent prince
opla requests are: open
lips on every cross
opla!zoro; 5,989 words; fem!reader, semi-established?? relationship, posessive!zoro, strawhat!reader, no "y/n", reader gets kidnapped, fluff and angst, very brief! mentions of past familial abuse and trauma, nicknames ("Princess"), slow-ish burn???, more plot than not
summary: zoro has never thought himself a holy man. but he'd kiss every cross if it meant finding his way back to you.
a/n: idk why every opla fic i write is like... more plot than i bargained for but here we are. literally, this fic was just supposed to be "zoro calls the reader 'princess'".

01. when love arrives
(“Hey Princess —“)
The nickname starts, as almost all things do on the Going Merry, as a joke. And, as with most jokes made amongst the rag-tag crew, it sticks. He’d said it because he’s sure you’d mentioned your name once or twice already, but he’d been napping or eating and he didn’t feel like looking like an asshole right that moment.
The ribbon in your hair had caught the light in just the right way, pale pink satin — such a strange, soft color amidst the careening, careless ocean, and the word just… slipped.
“Why’dyou call her that?” Luffy asks, lounging back against the main mast as Zoro works through the umpteenth rep of single-armed pushups.
Zoro puffs out a breath and switches arms.
“Dunno. Seemed like it fit.”
Luffy slates you a long glance, blinking owlishly.
“Really? Eh — I guess… well, she is really pretty.”
Zoro only grunts, jumping up and stretching both arms over his head with a long, steady breath. His eyes flicker towards you as well, laughing with Nami on the foredeck, sipping on cocktails, Sanji probably simping somewhere nearby.
He thinks back to where they’d found you, hood pulled low over your eyes, the tell-tale signs of distress carved into every line of your body, from the curve of your spine to the bend of your shoulders.
Luffy hadn’t asked questions, so Zoro hadn’t either.
Curiosity, the fatal flaw that runs so sharp and obvious through the entirety of Luffy’s being, hasn’t always been rewarded well in Zoro’s experience. And he’s learned by now that “truth will out”, or so they say.
(“C’mon, Princess, I thought you said you could drink.”)
Caution, on the other hand, is Zoro’s oldest friend. You are cautious, if nothing else, and the first time he sees you relax in his presence, he wonders to himself if there’s a drug in this world strong enough to induce this feeling.
Later, he would learn that this is simply called falling in love.
He isn’t the only one who notices how you casually dip a silver fork or knife into every single drink before you take a sip, or that sometimes, you blurt out the word “no’ like a promise to yourself, and “sorry” like a plea for help.
And he’s spent long enough being a hunter to know what being hunted looks like. So he doesn’t ask, and you don’t answer, and somehow, you still manage to make yourself a home in the dark caverns of his chest, curling up there till he can’t count his heartbeats without it sounding like the shadow of your name on the midnight wind.
02. a study of light and dark
The drinking game starts off innocently enough (and don’t they always), but it takes half a round for the questions and subsequent answers to devolve into loud laughter and debauchery, delirium and debasement.
“Alright, alright —“ Sanji holds up a hand, tossing back his shot to raucous cheers, “worst thing you’ve done in a closet. Go —“
Zoro rolls his eyes and takes the shot, foregoing his answer. Nami simply grins, catlike, swirling her own drink around her glass.
“In your wildest dreams, cook,” she says before taking her shot as well. Sanji lets out a contemplative whistle, followed by a good-natured wink.
“Define worst, cause… I mean, I’ve puked in like… most of them back in Syrup Village,” Usopp says. Sanji only chuckles, shrugging.
“We’ll take it, we’ll take it.”
Luffy hums, frowning for a second before smacking a fist into his open palm, grinning, “I took a nap!”
Everyone laughs, helpless and buoyed up by the casual effervescence of a night like this — when the moon is dark and the stars are bright and thin wisps of silver clouds mar the sky like tendrils of lost daydreams, caught on the wrong side of sunset.
When the laughter settles down, everyone turns to you.
You purse your lips, feeling the weight of your answer pressing down on the tip of your tongue — I hid. And I waited. And I tried not to listen.
As the silence stretches on, Zoro leans forward and uncrosses his arms, reaching out to nudge a full shot glass towards you.
“Times up, Princess — drink,” and though there’s nothing soft or even forgiving in his voice, but you feel yourself relax as everyone boos and you take your shot.
The heat of Zoro’s gaze only lingers on your skin for a moment longer before he leans back again, that familiar almost-grin tugging lazily at his lips as he turns half-lidded eyes towards the rest of his crew.
(“Talk to me, Princess.”)
When you find him later, fumbling in the dark of the hallway just outside his room, you kiss him without saying “thank you” and he doesn’t question it when, pressed beneath him on the rough linen of his sheets, you ask to keep the lights on.
03. etymology
Princess — it’s a nice word, Zoro muses to himself. The light pop of the ‘p’ rolling into the warm, round ‘r’, thinning out into the sensual layering of the double ‘s’s, till you’re left with nothing but a hiss, a shadow, a memory.
It’s a regal word; a pretty word. Though its origins might be anything but.
From the Latin primus “first” and cept “catcher”, or so Robin had told him over the pages of an ancient book he hadn’t bothered to ask the name of, because Princes and Kings have always obtained their powers through taking, and never asking. Reaping, and never sowing.
Zoro thinks then that this, too, is a form conquest — you over him. The totality of your power stunning to behold, if only because he has to let you take it in the first place. And he does so willingly.
He wonders if you, too, are as multifaceted as his nickname for you — delicacy and desire wrapped around a darker something, lace laid over a knife’s unforgiving edge.
The first time he dares to kiss you, he feels you kissing him back, the sharp canines of your teeth catching on his lower lip, drawing out a soft grunt from him. You’d paused, and then you’d bitten down harder just to hear him gasp into your mouth.
He knew then, without ever having to ask, that you are.
04. tip of the iceberg
It is winter when they arrive — but then again, it is always winter here. Here, the cold runs so deep it drives frost crystals into the marrow of your bones. Here, the wind howls like a wounded animal and the night falls with a savage, carnal vengeance, all black velvet and a blood-tinted moon.
Here, the snow storms turn living, breathing heroes into song lyrics and poetry rhymes.
You inhale a single breath before turning and heading back below deck.
Zoro frowns, and at a single look from Luffy, he follows you beneath, only to find you rummaging around the kitchen, tugging a bottle of moonshine out from under the sink.
“Whoa,” Zoro says, reaching out to stop you from uncorking the bottle, an eyebrow raised. He doesn’t miss the way you shiver, “bit early, isn’t it?”
“Bit rich, coming from you,” you snap, eyes sharp, voice stinging.
Zoro only cocks his other eyebrow in tandem and pulls the bottle from your hands before turning and grabbing two glasses from the cupboard. He takes his time filling them both with ice, and then pouring a finger into each glass.
You don’t meet his eyes as you reach out for your glass, but he catches your wrist.
“A drink for an answer,” he says.
You pause, your lips pressed into a thin, white line. And he knows it’s unfair, to turn this game around on you, because he can tell from the hard set of your shoulders that this is so much more than a drinking game but if this is what it takes to get the truth — then so be it.
“Fine,” you say, glancing away, voice clipped.
You move to take a sip, but Zoro pushes down your hand again.
“No lying.”
You scoff, narrowing your eyes, “Obviously.”
He eases off, picking up his own glass and clinking it against yours before taking a light swig, “You know this place.”
This time, you’re the one who turns around with a cocked brow.
“Got a question in there somewhere?”
Zoro’s lips twitch, “Yes, or no.”
You sigh, tapping a finger against the edge of your cup, “Yes.”
Zoro hums, “Your turn.”
You chew on your lips before taking a sip, “Why do you care so much?”
Zoro ticks his tongue against his teeth, “Stupid question. Next.”
You huff, “That’s not how this game goes.”
Zoro swirls his glass before setting it down on the counter with a loud clack, “Because I care about you.”
You pause with your own drink halfway to your mouth and look up. Zoro doesn’t shy away from meeting your gaze and for a moment, time statics to a halt around you.
Then, Zoro sighs, unclenching his jaw as he attempts a lopsided smile.
“Hey, talk to me,” he reaches out to trail a finger along the high of your cheekbones, up to the shell of your ear.
The ‘please’ hangs silent in the air between you; the ‘Princess’ is implied.
And for the first time, he thinks he sees you flinch. He makes to pull back but you tug his hand forward, pressing your cheek against his palm.
“This island,” you say, finally, the tremor in your voice like a hairline fracture snaking through a porcelain vase, “it’s… well, it used to be… my home.”
05. the secret history
It is the most beautiful place any of them have ever been.
The castle is made entirely of ice, the cold winter sun refracting the light into a million and one unseen colors. Giant ice-carved sculptures dot the crystal-flower gardens, and it takes them all a few minutes to realize that the gorgeous, delicate blooms are made of glass, blown and shaped to mirror real-life snowflakes — each unique, glittering, and eternal.
“Dude… how long do you think all this took to make?” Usopp asks, his head turning as if on a swivel, his jaw hinging off his face in awe.
Robin sighs, “Too long, perhaps.”
Zoro stays quiet, and beside him, so does Nami.
You’d insisted on staying back, to guard the ship, you’d said. But the space you usually fill in the group hangs solid in the air, a gaping hole of lack when there should be none.
Luffy hums and he marches out in front of them, ever the dubious, fearless leader. Though most of the crew has now come to terms with the fact that “courage” and “sheer bull-headedness” are often two sides of the same coin for him.
It’s Sanji who pauses first, causing Chopper to ram into the back of his knees.
“Ouch! What’dyou do that f —”
“Look,” Sanji says, pointing at a poster pasted to the slick outer wall of the castle gates.
And they do, leaning in, crowding too close. Zoro grunts as Chopper jumps and scrambles up his back to peer over his shoulder at the face plastered on the dew-soaked poster, the words LOST PRINCESS: 120,000,000 FOR ANY INFORMATION THAT LEADS TO HER WHEREABOUTS printed in giant, familiar block letters along the bottom.
Beside him, Zoro can feel Nami swallowing. Hard.
“A hundred and twenty million berry…” she murmurs, her breath going shallow as they all stare, dumbfounded at the poster of what is unmistakably you.
You, with your exquisite features schooled into something like solemnity, your usually wind-swept hair twisted up into a tight braid across the crown of your head, a diadem of ice-white silver and light-cut jewels jutting up from your severe updo like so many broken teeth, sharp and unforgiving as stalagmites.
If none of them had known, it’d be impossible to reconcile you with this cold, distant portrait, your eyes rendered lifeless and dull by the depthless black ink.
Luffy, however, only blinks and turns to stare at Zoro.
“Did you know?”
“What?”
Luffy continues to stare, “When I asked why you always call her ‘Princess’.”
Zoro sighs, turning his eyes back to the WANTED poster before shaking his head.
“No. Like I said… I thought it just… fit.”
06. eternal day
Zoro is itching to get back to the ship. There’s a fish-line sliver of worry tugging at the place behind his chest where his heart should be, and he knows implicitly that something is wrong.
“Don’t worry, she can take care of herself!” Luffy says, smiling bright, his confidence unwavering.
“No Luffy, Zoro’s right — someone should be with her. What if —” and here, Nami glances at Zoro before turning her attention back to Luffy, “— she might need the backup,” is what she finally settles with. And to Zoro’s great relief, Luffy agrees.
And then, to everyone’s horror, off in the distance, your voice rises over the wind in a blood-curdling scream.
07. endless night
By the time Zoro makes it back to the ship, you are already gone.
08. torn asunder
Gone, gone, gone. The word echoes like an ill-fated alarm bell, ringing through Zoro’s entire body as he catapults himself through the ship, slamming open every door, checking every nook, corner, and crevice. Signs of a struggle, that much is clear, scuffs on the freshly waxed planks of the aft deck, nail marks along the railings, and —
Zoro’s breath freezes in his chest.
A smear of blood that drips over the side of the ship, trailing down the ladder.
A flash of pale pink catches his eye.
Your satin hair ribbon lies abandoned on the wharfs’ boardwalk, the faintest splatter of red soaking its ends.
He picks it up between gentle fingers and tucks it deep into his pocket.
His vision blurs red as he thinks about the things your captors might’ve done to you before dragging you off. He’s seen you fight and it wouldn’t have been easy to bring you down.
And by the time the rest of the crew reach him, he’s already sprinting back towards the castle, his jaw set, his teeth gritted.
It takes the combined effort of Sanji, Luffy, and Robin to stop him from charging through the castle gates and tearing the whole place down.
“Runnin’ round like a headless chicken’s not gonna do her any good, mate,” Sanji says, a smoke already caught between his teeth. A pre-fight ritual of his.
Zoro jerks his arm out of Sanji’s grasp, stalking down the street with a huff.
Robin strolls after him, somehow keeping pace, looking unhurried as Zoro tamps down the blind urge to slash the entire island in half.
“We’ll find her,” Robin says, her voice level, even as her sharp eyes scan the white-specked horizon, the usually amused half-twist of her lips laid flat by worry, “and she’s stronger than you think.”
At this, Zoro whips around, “I know —” but he bites down the venom threatening to surge up the back of his throat with a sigh. Robin doesn’t flinch, and Zoro attempts a steadying breath before repeating himself in a slightly softer tone, “I know… I’m just…”
Robin nods, and Zoro is thankful that he doesn’t have to finish his sentence.
09. the tower and the throne
The cold greets you like a scorned lover— a spiteful, savage mistress. Tendrils of frost creep along the walls of your old bedroom to caress your cheeks. You shiver and wrap your arms around yourself, sitting on familiar satin sheets.
“Dinner is soon, darling,” your mother’s cool voice calls from outside your bedroom door, “and make yourself presentable — we’ve got guests.”
The sadistic lilt of her voice as she says the word ‘guests’ makes you jerk your head up, staring at the door as if you might be able to bore through the thick wood with nothing but your eyes. And, almost as if she can feel you staring, you hear your mother’s cold, tinkling laughter.
“Hurry now… I had your favorite dress put out for you. It should still fit — and we don’t want to keep them… waiting.”
The slow, sanguine pause before her last word makes you want to rip out your hair and scream into the wind till your voice gives out.
Instead, you push yourself up and reach for the dress laid out at the foot of your bed with shaking fingers.
The dress fits you like a second skin, the delicate lace trim barely sweeping the floor as you adjust the bodice, grimacing at your reflection in the large, floor-length mirror. It is as if the last ten months had never happened, as if you’d never escaped this terrifying hellscape of a winter wonderland. As if you’d simply dreamed every single sun-filled afternoon, every star-strewn night spent laughing and singing amongst your new-found crew.
Here, in the fragile glass reflection, you are once again a girl trapped behind her own ribcage, with a destiny carved into stone and ice, with no hope of summer in sight. You take a long breath and tighten the ribbons of your dress.
You are still and silent as the maid slips in through the door after a single knock and begins to twist up your hair. Tighter and tighter, till it sets your teeth on edge. When she pins the crown in place, it takes everything inside you not to fall apart, to shatter at the weight, the sight of it sitting on your head. You swallow as the maid dips her head and backs out of the room with a murmured dinner is served, Princess.
For the first time, you wince openly at her words.
10. waiting for the rain
The hall is just how you remembered it, huge and cavernous, gaping like the empty maw of some petrified monster, the ceiling hanging with so many cold, sparkling chandeliers, ice-carved statues jutting up from the floors like teeth.
You’re marched in like a show animal, the great marble doors swinging open before you as you step forward and feel your breath freeze in your chest.
There, strung up on a massive statue of some long-forgotten saint, is Zoro, cuts and bruises marring his already scarred and puckered torso. But he smirks as he sees you come in, his eyes bright as he spits a mouthful of blood onto the seemingly endless white floors. Around him, the rest of your crew sits, tied and slumped over in chairs like so many sleeping mannequins.
“Hey there, Princess. Just in time for dinner.”
You nearly wince at the raspiness in his voice, the faint trickle of blood that leaks out the corner of his mouth.
“Silence,” your father’s voice echoes out from the high-backed chair at the head of the ludicrously long table. You don’t have to see to know his face is as smooth as just-applied plaster. But Zoro only has eyes for you — and he continues to talk as if he hadn’t been interrupted.
“If you’d told us we’d be welcomed like this, we might’ve packed differently.”
You bite down on your bottom lip so hard you almost taste the metallic tang of blood.
“Our daughter has always been a skillful liar — though it’s a habit we tried to… rid her of in her youth. The lesson never seemed to have stuck.” Your mother this time. And now, you can see the muscle ticking in Zoro’s jaw as he scoffs.
“Really? And here I always thought she was shit at lying.”
You swallow down a whimper as the maid wordlessly leads you to the far end of the table, where Zoro is still tied. You drop into the seat between a snoring Luffy and an eerily still Nami, and it’s all you can do not to turn around and retch onto the silk embroidered rug.
“Be that as it may…” your mother’s voice drops a few degrees — an admirable feat, as her voice is usually just on the other side of frigid, “it’s bad luck to kill on the eve of a royal wedding.”
At this, Zoro’s head snaps around and you shrink back in your chair, your eyes fixed on your fists, clenched in your lap.
“Mother,” you grind out, finally forcing your head up so as to meet her piercing, blizzard-bright gaze, “I’ve told you, I’ve no intention of getting married. At least not to the mongrel you’ve decided to set me up with.”
You spit out the last sentence, trying to remember all the snark, all the confidence that’d built up inside you over the past weeks and months. Away from this dreaded castle and on the sun-soaked bow of the Going Merry, it was the first time you’d begun to discover who you are — the things you liked, the ways of life that you yearned for.
Your father slams a hand on the table at the same moment that Zoro lets out a bark of laughter.
“Insolence!”
“Damn, Princess — you never told me you could bite.”
And, to your horror and perhaps deep-seated pleasure, a blush works its way into your cheeks at Zoro’s words. Your eyes snap towards him, catching his gaze as he smirks at you. And even though his shirt is slashed, his sword hilts hanging woefully empty at this hip, his hands twisted painfully behind him on the statue, he still manages an easy, condescending air.
You seize at this tiny tendril of normalcy as you force a wane smile.
“I might be persuaded to do more than that… if you ask nicely.”
Zoro’s snicker is drowned out by your mother’s sharp gasp. But you don’t look away, holding Zoro’s gaze for as long as you dare — in it, you find an entire abyss of barely concealed rage (and is that… amusement?), his entire body straining against the shackles that hold him. Then, his eyes slip from you to a point just over your shoulder.
It’s then that you realize: Luffy’s not snoring anymore.
11. to reap and to sow
You’re never quite certain of how the Merry’s crew seems to always just wriggle out of frankly gruesome and untimely deaths, but here you are, racing for the docks like your lives depended on it. Because, well, it kind of does.
“Remind me —” you shout between pants, one hand clutched firmly in Zoro’s, the other doing its best to lift the ridiculous dinner dress they’d put you in — a confection of lace and tulle, the bodice laced with pale pink satin ribbon, “how the hell did you guys manage to trick my parents into thinking you’d eaten the spiked food?”
Sanji flashes you a toothy grin, “Ah love… you know how it is — ask us no questions, and we’ll tell you no lies!”
Luffy, however, whoops as he launches himself from a pair of solid brick buildings, catapulting himself over your sprinting crew.
“We just — pretended to eat! I mean — I did kinda actually eat a bit — but — it wasn’t that bad!”
You resist the urge to pinch your nose bridge at the nonchalance with which Luffy is talking about consuming poisoned food, but you’ve only got two hands and both are equally occupied at the moment. You settle for an exasperated sigh.
“That was — really stupid! — What if — they’d — poisoned the food — with something — other than — sleeping medicine?!” you ask, forcing air into your lungs as finally, you all round the bend onto the bustling pier, the Going Merry’s unmistakable shape silhouetted against the misty horizon.
“We can talk when — we’re all back — on the ship!” Nami calls as she sprints passed you, reaching out a hand for Luffy, who’s elongated arm grabs her and slings her onto the deck of the ship. You barely have a second to breathe before Zoro’s arm loops around your waist and you’re being pulled tight into his side.
His breath is hot against your collarbone as he smirks, “Hold on tight, Princess.”
It’s all you can do to listen as you’re suddenly whipped through the air like a doll on a drunken marionette’s string. A bright peal of Luffy-tinted laughter later, you thud onto the deck of the Going Merry, the breath knocked clean from your lungs as the world spins and spins. You’d expected to hit solid wood, or maybe even the railing or the mast but —
Zoro groans beneath you, and it takes you a long second to realize that he’d cushioned your fall, your bodies pressed chest to chest, hip to hip, your arms still wrapped around his shoulders, his still steady around your waist.
“O-oh! Sorry —” you try to pull away but Zoro’s grip on you only tightens.
You freeze as he blinks up at you, eyes slightly narrowed.
“Crown’s crooked,” Zoro finally says, that tell-tale smirk twisting the edge of his lips as his gaze flickers upwards. Your hand jumps to the crown, somehow still clipped into your now disheveled hair, lopping to one side as the braids start to come loose. You purse your lips.
“I never liked it anyway…” You make to tug it out but Zoro reaches up to right it, though he lets his hand linger as he falls along the side of your face.
“Nah, looks good on you.” His voice is so low, and suddenly, air is such a language that you’re certain you’d forgotten how to speak. Slowly, he pushes up till you’re both sitting, you still pressed against him and him still pressed against you. Distantly, you can hear shouting, Usopp’s voice raised high over the wind as the Merry careens out of port and towards the open sea.
But strangely, no one makes to pull you away from him, or him from you.
“I should’ve told you guys…” you say, eyes casting down as you rest your palms against his chest. Beneath it, you can feel his heart — pounding, pounding, pounding. There’s a light sheen of sweat glimmering on his honeyed skin as you swallow, looking back up even as he chuckles.
“Sure, but we should’ve asked.”
You bite your lips, “I think you did.”
Zoro grins, shrugging as he helps you up, somehow managing to keep his arm slipped around your waist.
“Well. Should’ve asked better, then.”
12. lost stars
It takes you a while to tell them the story — the real story, the whole story. And there’s drinking involved, but it’s mostly just you clutching at your half-filled glass, Zoro’s knee pressed comfortingly against yours, even though his eyes are closed, his head leaned back, his arms crossed loosely over his chest.
You tell them about the dark underbelly of royalty that everyone knows but no one wants to talk about — the blood and teeth beneath the silk and silver. You tell them about being raised a bargaining chip, of being sold and promised like a prized heifer on auction day.
You tell them about the moonless nights when the only thing you had to keep you company was the cold, about the “lessons” your mother would teach you, about how the maids would be instructed to hide the bruises just so, about the Prince who you were set to marry and the rumors that plagued his castle —
“They say that he’d take the prettiest girls from the surrounding town as his maids and that none of them ever walked out of his castle again,” you say. The moonshine burns on its way down your throat as you finish your drink.
Wordlessly, Zoro reaches over to pluck the glass from your hand and set it on the table. It’s only then that you realize your fingers are white and trembling.
“Did he hurt you?”
Zoro’s voice is not loud, but everyone turns to look at him. You shake your head, clasping your hands in your lap.
“No. I only ever… met him once, at a dinner party. It was after that that I… ran away.”
Zoro hums, leaning back again, “Good.”
Across the room, Sanji blows out a series of smoke rings and frowns.
“Were you about to offer to hunt him down?” Robin asks, sounding amused.
Zoro shrugs, “Wouldn’t have offered — would’ve just done it.”
“He sounds like the kinda guy we should hunt down anyway, no?” Luffy asks, cocking his head as he looks back at you, “I mean, I’m glad he never hurt you but… he’s still hurting people!”
“Luffy’s got a point,” Sanji says, stubbing out his cigarette.
“For once, I agree with Sanji,” Nami says.
There’s a light squabble during which Sanji makes an aggrieved noise and Nami rolls her eyes, and then everyone is laughing and chatting and more drinks are being poured. Next to you, Zoro reaches out to wrap his arm around your waist again. It’s something he’s been doing more lately, and you can’t honestly say that you mind it much at all.
“We don’t have to,” he says, leaning forward, almost as if to brush his lips by your ear, “if… if you don’t want to.”
You shiver at the base rumble of his voice, at the way his eyes are so warm and full of some uncertain promise.
“No, I… I do want to. It’s just…”
Zoro’s fingers trace small, absent-minded circles into the skin of your waist and you fight down another shiver.
“I don’t plan on letting you get kidnapped again, Princess.”
Your gaze snaps up to meet Zoro’s, and there’s a faint smile kissing the line of his lips. And suddenly, the lightness of his touch doesn’t feel so thoughtless as heat curls out from the place where his palm meets your skin, radiating out till you’re breathless with it.
“Oh?”
“Never liked people trying to take what’s mine.”
And the dark possessiveness with which he says mine leaves little room for interpretation, even as you lick your lips and try to think of something witty to say.
“I don’t remember agreeing to be yours.”
It’s the best you can come up with; Zoro’s only response is a soft, contemplative grunt.
“What’s that saying? ‘Actions speak louder than words’?” he flashes you a satisfied grin as you narrow your eyes at him, swatting at his chest as he laughs.
“I meant it though,” he says, a moment later, as the rest of the crew all chatter around you, “about calling it off if you don’t want to. But…” he reaches up a free hand to tug a strand of your hair free from the ponytail it’s tied up in.
“Figured you might sleep better at night knowing he’s gone.”
You let out a breath you hadn’t been aware you were holding, your whole body softening as you lean into him, pressing your palms to his chest as he looks at you.
“Yeah… I think I might. And… like you said… it’s not like I’m gonna get kidnapped again.”
You smile, letting your eyes flicker down to Zoro’s lips. His smile is pleased and just a little jagged as he tugs you up by the hand and the pair of you slip from the room.
Above deck, the sun is setting, and the warm, slanted light casts the entire ship in a glaze of gold that looks almost gilded. You lean against the railings, closing your eyes and letting the warmth of the sun seep into your skin, chasing away the chill that’d been lingering at your fingertips since you’d all made your spectacular escape from your home island.
You feel rather than hear Zoro join you. You take your time breathing in the salty tang of the humid sea air before opening your eyes and slating him a side-long look.
“Thank you,” you say.
“For what?”
“For coming after me.”
Zoro scoffs, turning away from the roiling waves to lean back against the railings, his head cocked as he looks you over.
“Like I said… I don’t like it when people try to take what’s mine.”
But this time, you laugh, nodding, “So you’ve said. But still… thanks.”
“Hn.”
Zoro closes his eyes, seemingly enjoying the last vestiges of the setting sun as it sinks ever-lower along the horizon. Then, he opens one eye to peer at you.
“Though I’ve been meaning to ask —”
“Hm?”
“What’s this about doing more than biting… if asked about it nicely enough?”
You try to duck your head but Zoro catches your chin in his fingers.
“I — I just… knew it would piss off my mother if she —”
“Mm, sounded like more than that to me.”
Your breath hitches as Zoro’s thumb traces a rough line along your bottom lip.
“How about… I show you?” and the offer is barely out of your mouth before Zoro is kissing you, his mouth seeking out yours with a soft groan that betrays all the lightness in his touch as he trails his free hand down your arm to pull hard at your waist.
And it’s not the first time you’ve kissed. It’s not even the first time a kiss with Zoro has become more than just a kiss, though you’d always been careful before to make sure that he knew (though thinking back, it might’ve just been an ill-fated attempt at lying to yourself) that the pleasure shared between bodies was just that — pleasure and bodies.
But this — this kiss becomes, and becomes.
It becomes breath and heartbeats, pleasure and heat. It becomes truth and promises and the tantalizing taste of fairy-tale endings.
“Z-Zoro…”
“Yes Princess?”
You hiss as his teeth grazes along your pulse point and your fingers fist in his hair.
“Y’know…” your voice comes out as nothing more than a soft pant as Zoro tugs you over to one of the reclining chairs beneath the orange trees and pulls you over his hips, “I’ve never liked being called that but…”
“But?” his thumbs inch beneath the material of your shirt, circling your hipbones as he smirks up at you.
“I don’t mind it when it’s you.”
Zoro’s grin goes wide and wolfish. Above him, the first stars spark into being as the sun finally sinks beyond the far horizon. For a second, his smile softens as he reaches up to toy with the end of the pale pink ribbon in your hair. Then, he gives it a single, solid tug, and your hair falls open around your shoulders, tumbling down in waves.
Zoro leans up to press a light kiss to the blood-stained satin before letting it flutter off in the wind, twisting into the rapidly darkening night.
“Good… cause I ain’t about to let anyone else call you that either.”

“Here, like this.”
Sanji took to standing behind you, wrapping his arms around you to place his hands on yours, guiding you through the proper motions to chop a carrot as evenly as he did. You couldn’t help but notice how his biceps flexed against your own, how he smelled of the bath he took this morning, the light caress of his breath on your neck. It was nearly overwhelming. You had to hyperfocus on the task in front of you so to not zone out and chop off a finger.
The carrots now chopped, Sanji’s excuse to wrap himself around you was gone. Reluctantly, he took a step back; you weren’t sure if the sudden coldness you were feeling was disappointment at his lack of proximity.
“Okay,” he started, his voice a little shaken; you wondered – was that because of you? “breakfast’s about as good as done. Do you want to call everyone in?”
“Sure,” you agreed, earning yourself one of Sanji’s beautiful, deep-dimpled smiles.
Gathering the crew for breakfast was rarely a hassle; you were often tasked with the mission after helping Sanji prep breakfast, and so, you already knew everyone’s routines and where to find them. Luffy was usually nearby the kitchen somewhere, ready to pounce on breakfast the moment Sanji permitted; Nami could be found on deck, drawing maps of where you’ve been; Usopp was a bit less predictable, but he’d usually find you as you were making the rounds. And then there was Zoro – which, you learned, was not a morning person.
While Sanji was up at the crack of dawn, already dressed to the nines and on his feet working in the kitchen, Zoro would sleep in until forced out of bed. They really were polar opposites.
This morning was no different; you knocked twice on Zoro’s door before letting yourself in. You smiled at the sight of his sleeping form, splayed across the bed, limbs tangled in his sheets – so unlike the proper way he held himself during his waking hours.
Perching yourself on the side of the bed, you lay a hand on Zoro’s shoulder. He opted to sleep on his stomach, and you couldn’t help but be appreciative of the sight of his muscular back, shaped by the hours of training he put in daily. “Zoro,” you called calmly, caressing his upper back in what you believed to be a friendly manner. “Hey, it’s time for breakfast.”
Zoro mumbled incoherently in to his pillow before shifting to throw an arm around you, his eyes still shut peacefully. “Zoro,” you laughed, being tilted on to him. “come on, it’s time to wake up.”
Finally, Zoro responded. “Mm. Sleep better.”
“Better than Sanji’s cooking?”
“Yes,” he deadpanned. You should have seen that coming. After a short pause, Zoro opened an eye, taking you in. “Did you cook?”
“I helped.”
“Fine.” With that, Zoro threw off the sheet that was covering him, hopping out of bed in surprising speed. While he’d usually sleep in trousers, last night was hotter than usual, and he seemed to opt against them today.
“Sorry,” you apologize, seeing Zoro in nothing but his boxers. You stood up to make your way out of the room when Zoro interjected, “What’s the rush? I’ll walk with you,” as he pulled on a pair of pants. He grabbed a button-up and followed you out of his room, threading an arm in to his shirt.
You stopped dead in your tracks as you came face to face with Usopp. You could see from the way he was looking at you two, just what he was thinking. You both were leaving his room quietly early in the morning, Zoro being half undressed. Usopp’s gaze jumped between you and Zoro, his mouth falling slightly open, trying to think of how to express himself.
Zoro, however, didn’t give him the opportunity. “Usopp.” Zoro greeted sternly. Zoro then placed a hand on your lower back, maneuvering you to keep walking, leaving a confused, suspicious Usopp behind.
Usopp was the last to join you all for breakfast. When he had finally arrived, the expression he wore was one of slight terror, or maybe just pure disbelief; a fact that didn’t go unnoticed by the rest of the crew. Usopp took his place sitting opposite Nami, who wasn’t afraid to just ask – “Usopp. What’s up with your face?”
Usopp, reluctant to vocalize at this place and time, opted for giving Nami a wide-eyed look before raising his brows and shifting his eyeline between you and Zoro.
If that was meant to be a discreet message from himself to Nami, it failed, because even your oblivious captain had picked up on the cue – “What’s going on with y/n and Zoro?”
You could see Sanji tense visibly, his eyes growing wide. Zoro, however, seemed completely unbothered.
You could see the panic rise on Usopp before he blurted out, “Zoro and y/n are sleeping together!”
You, Luffy and Nami all shout – “What?!” to varying degrees of emotion. Strangely, Zoro doesn’t protest.
Then, a chair falls back to the floor. Sanji was on his feet, his hands fisted. You knew him well enough to know how mad he was just from the way he held himself.
“No.” Sanji said, his voice almost a growl. Slowly, he picked up his gaze from the floor to Zoro. “This… This is the one thing, I refuse to lose to you. I won’t let you have her.”
“Sit down, cook. This doesn’t regard you.” How Zoro could be so unbothered right now, you had no idea. Why wasn’t he clearing things up? Was he – was he okay with the others thinking you were together?
You could see Sanji flaring up – there was a fight about to break out, you were certain about it. “Sanji, I literally spent all morning with you.”
Instantly, Sanji’s rage melted away. Sanji made his way to you, wrapping his arms around your shoulders and pulling you to him. “That’s right. I shouldn’t be listening to this nonsense when I know I’m the first person you see when you wake up.”
Zoro’s brow twitched at that. “What are you saying, cook?”
Looking more smug than need be, Sanji replied, “What do you think, mosshead?”
“Enough with this already!” Nami yelled, far too tired with the duo’s one-upmanship. “You’re talking about a real person here, not a toy. Ever think to ask her how she feels, what she wants?”
“Yeah, y/n.” Zoro stood, and the look he was giving you could set you ablaze. Sanji’s arms around you tightened. “What do you want?”

Dancing to the beat of our hearts
Zoro Roronoa x reader
Summary : being Zoro's lover, was a dream come true. Everything was perfect about him,but...when the night comes and you see couples dancing, you cant help but to wish for more...
Warnings : none, slightly hurt/comfort,Zoro being a simp for you, soft Zoro, FLUFF,gender neutral reader

"ANOTHER VICTORY FOR STRAW HATS!!!CHEERS!!!"
Luffy's excited shout echoes through the night,as everyone cheer and down their drinks. All around you, people were celebrating, and happily serving you and your crewmates drinks after drinks.
You and your crewmates had managed to save yet another village from pirates, and it was time to celebrate.
Everything about this village was absolutely beautiful;from the cherry trees that had blossomed just recently, making the scenery breathtaking,to its kind and warm-hearted people who knew nothing but how to love and be happy.
They apparently,also loved to dance.
When the song changes to something soft and more melodic, you watch from your place across the bonfire how couples start to gather around;hands being placed on shoulders and arms around waists. You watch and sip your suddenly too bitter drink as they dance, and the sound of their laughter fills the air.
Your eyes wander to the green haired man sitting next to the open bar across you,and your lips pull down to a frown;Zoro didnt like to dance.
You loved Zoro,of course you did,but ever since you two became a couple...things didnt get too different between the two of you.
Obviously there were small kisses here and there, and Zoro became even more protective of you if that was even possible, but you craved real romance. Like the ones you would see young couples do,or read in the books; running under the rain while laughing, going shopping or matching clothes, and of course, dancing .
You could've made a list of the dances you wished to have with Zoro on so many occasions, but you never asked. You knew Zoro;he wasnt a big fan of showing his affection openly, always choosing to show his love to you through his actions. So it didnt take a genius to guess he would absolutely rather die than to dance.
You swallow the lump in your throat and stare down to your drink. You weren't even sure what it was; probably something light since you weren't feeling even slightly drunk. Something sweet. Maybe cherry? It sure had a good smell to it. As you swing the last of your drink around the glass, you make a mental reminder to tell Sanji to get some with you back to the ship. A small smile graces your lips as you think about sailing tomorrow morning once again with your new family, but the happiness is short lived as a bitter feeling fills your chest and you find yourself blinking rapidly in hopes of not bursting in tear right there.
Was it too much to ask to have a romantic love life?
As you start to wonder whether to return to the Going Merry or ask the musicians to play some other song,a small tap on your shoulder makes you jump in your sit slightly. You turn your head, and find yourself face to face with your boyfriend.
At first, Zoro's eyes search yours for a second, before jerking his head toward the back, where the road leads to the cherry garden.
"come with me for a second."
you silently nod,and accepting his offer to help you stand, you take his much larger hand in yours and make your way toward the garden. And when you finally step inside, you let out a loud gasp.
You dont think you've ever seen anything more beautiful in your life;the way the petals of the cherry blossoms dance in the air and settle on your hair, the air having the sweet smell of the drink that you had earlier, and the moon shining the brightest you've ever seen-
And none of them could compare to the picture Zoro was making.
You've always loved Zoro;ever since the very first moment you saw him,the first time he smiled at you,and the first time he held your hand. You loved Zoro, and you believed with your soul that there was no one prettier than him.
But now,as you watch the flower petals dancing around him,and the moonlight shining on his green air as he stares at you with the softest look on his face, you cant help your heart from beating awfully faster.
You loved Zoro. And gods above,he was the most beautiful being in the whole universe.
You're so busy admiring his features that when his fingers brush against your cheek, you jump slightly. Zoro raises his fingers up to you hair, and you feel him pluck something out.
When he lowers his hand,he shows you a small cherry blossom that was trapped in your hair. And in that moment, when he raises it up to his lips, you swear the time stops all together.
Zoro closes his eyes as his lips make contact with the flower, and he slowly opens his eyes to meet yours.
"y/n," he puts the flower in the pocket right over his heart and as he takes hold of your hand, with the sound of his three swords clanking together,he kneels right in front of you. Your gap at him,and you're torn between laughing and kneeling as well.
"Zoro,whats going on?"
Zoro scowls at you.
"what does it look like I'm doing?"
"proposing?!"
"no," Zoro deadpans, and your face visibly falls, "that has to be special. Not out of blue."
Your face brightens and small laugh escapes from your lips
"then,whats going on?"
And for the very first time since meeting him,he actually looks embarrassed.
You didn't know he could feel that kind of emotion
"I'm planning to ask you for a dance,if you let me finish."
When your mouth slams shut,he sighs and unconsciously rubs his thumb against the back of your hand.
Your heart flutter at how comforting he can be even when he's not realizing it.
"Babe,i know I'm not the most romantic person in the whole world," when you let out a snort,he scowls again, "but i promise, its not because i dont love you."
He slowly raises to his feet once again, and gently leans his forehead against yours.
"i know i dont say it enough, but i love you." His hand find your waist,as your arms wrap his neck;your eyes shining with unshed tears, "and i will continue loving you until my last breath."
You let out a small sniffle when he kisses your wet eyelashes.
"sounds pretty much like a proposal to me."
"oh,babe,i promise you that after my proposal, you'll cry your eyes out."
You tug at his short hair and give him an unimpressed look.
"you're making my heart beat with your smooth talk,Zoro. Keep it up and you'll no longer have a lover to propose to."
And when he laughs quietly, you cant help but to pull him down for a kiss.
The sound of the music in the background, makes everything feel surreal. The way Zoro holds you so gently, and his lips moving against yours with urgency, reminds you how passionate he can be. And its right there, that Zoro reminds your how much he actually loves you.
The sound of the music is still audible in the background,so when he starts swinging you side by side, you cant help the giddy laugh that escapes you. Zoro gives you a gentle smile, and kisses your forehead.
"from now on,tell me what you desire. I'll make all your dreams come true."
And when you raise your head to lock your lips with his once again,a small whisper leaves your lips.
"dont worry. All my dreams had already came true the moment i laid my eyes one you."

The calm ocean was great for fishing so thats what you, Luffy and Usopp where doing, catching as many fish as you could and putting them in the aquarium tank to keep then fresh. The two boys where having way more luck then you but you did enjoy it as you sat on the railing your legs dangling over the edge. The bright sun was beaming down on the three of you helping you warm up even though there's a light cold breeze, Luffy kept his hand on your thigh for a while lightly stroking the large tattoo that he loves. During the two years you got a tattoo of the Straw hat jolly Rodger, it was hard being away from the crew but when ever you looked at the tattoo it made you feel close to them. When you first showed your captain he was over the moon with joy and hugged your leg for hours, its now his favorite place to rest his head or hand, sometimes you wonder does it mean more to him than it does to you. It had been an hour since you alone haven't caught anything so you were about to pack it in when the line tugged, "See Y/N i told you" Luffy smiles wide jumping off the railing and holding your shoulders as you try and reel it in but it was much harder than you expected "Come on Y/n" Usopp cheer as you lean as far back as you can to get the upper hand, seeing you struggling the two decide to help you, both standing behind you and trying to stop what ever is on the other end of the line form pulling you into the ocean.
After a few minutes of struggling a dark shadow starts to surface making the water above it bubble as the fish thrashes to escape "Oh no" You call out noticing the size, shape and color as it breaks through the water, Luffy smiles wide while you and Usopp panic a little looking at the Giant Football fish you just caught, the end of your fishing line caught in its mouth. "That won't fit in the tank" You lean back into Luffy who just laughs at your comment and nods "Then i guess we'll just have to eat it. SANJI Y/N CAUGHT DINNER" Luffy yells out as the giant fish looks at the man its eyes wide seeming to understand what the captain just said. The two help you pull it closer as it tries to back away its large teeth snapping open and closed trying to cut through the fishing line but it can't seem to get a good angle on it. "What's all the yelling?" Sanji groans while stepping out of the kitchen with a cigarette in his mouth only stopping when he see's the giant fish, a smile forms on the cooks face as he walks over to you three. His eyes widen though when he see's your the one holding the fishing rod "Y/n-chan please be careful" The cook calls out running over to help but Luffy laughs and shakes his head "she's got this, right?" The captain smiles wide while holding you tight to his chest, than small smile you nod loving the confidence your captain is giving you "Yea i've got this... just a little closer" You struggle to reel it in but your not one to give up especially when Luffy has those hungry eyes.
The fish continues to struggle but is no match for the three of you, as it gets closer Luffy pulls back his arm and then launches it forwards punching it in the face making it pass out and float on top of the water. With a relaxed sigh you un-tense your body and reel it in letting Sanji and Luffy drag it onto the ship so it can be cut up and made into food. "That was awesome" Luffy smiles wrapping his arms around you and lifting you up in celebration "Yea nice one" Usopp yells joining Luffy in lifting you high, you couldn't help but laugh as a giant smile forms on your face. "Well you two helped" You comment looking down at your captain who's still holding you high. "Y/N darling you did amazing" Sanji smiles up at you with hearts in his eyes as he spins to you only for the back of a hand to hit is face causing him to fall onto the floor "How many times have i told you to knock it off" Zoro glares down at the cook who glares up at him while rubbing his butt that he fell on "The hell moss head, you wanna go?" Sanji gets up clenching his fist only for the swordsman to ignore him and walk over to the three of you "Zoro, you saw right?" Luffy asks knowing the swordsman has been watching you all for a while, Zoro nods with a small smile his eye meeting yours sending you a proud and loving look. "Wait you were watching and didn't help?" Usopp yells pointing his hand at the green haired man who only chuckles at the sniper stepping past the long nosed man to you and Luffy. "Some boyfriend you are moss head? Leaving her to deal with that thing?" Sanji yells at the swordsman who just roll his eyes at the cook.
Luffy finally puts you down but keeps his hand on your waist as Zoro ruffling your hair "You didn't need my help, I knew you could do it" You smile up at the man, you did need help but it meant a lot that he had faith in you and your skills but you couldn't take all the credit. "I guess all your training paid off, thanks to you i'm a lot stronger now" The swordsman has been helping you train harder, he doesn't hold back because you were a girl or because you were dating him so some times it got too much but you were still thankful. Luffy kisses your cheek and hugs you tight lifting you up a bit "We're gonna have a huge feast tonight, well done Muffin" You can't help but blush at the nickname as Zoro pats your head. Sanji sighs looking at the three of you before looking at the fish as Usopp walks over to him "So, what's for dinner?" The sniper asks with a big smile making the cook let out a small chuckle as he finishes off his cigarette and garbs the large fish "Just wait and see". It took a few hours but when the food was ready everyone was dying to dig in, luckily there was more than enough for everyone even with Luffy's apatite. As the sun set everyone gathered on the deck to relax and listen to Brook play some music, you sat next to Zoro who was cleaning his swords while you where cleaning your guns since you would be docking at a new island tomorrow morning. The two of you sat in silence but it was a comfortable one, something you both enjoy, from time to time you would lean over to place your head on his shoulder watching him work as he places a kiss on your head before going back to your guns.
Luffy finished chatting with Usopp before walking over to the two of you and sitting behind you both placing his chin on your shoulders what where currently touching. The captain watched the two of you work before sighing not getting any attention form you two "What's wrong my king?" You ask turning your head to look at Luffy who smiles at you and lifts his head off your shoulder "I wanna cuddle" you couldn't refuse the captain so you scotched over, so he could get in between you and Zoro, the swordsman chuckles a little and puts his swords away wrapping his arm around Luffy's waist "Anything for our captain" the green haired man leans over placing a kiss on Luffy's temple. Putting your guns back together you place then back in their holster before leaning into Luffy who puts an arm around you and Zoro holding you both close to him. The three of you sit together watching the sun set to the beautiful sound of Brook's music enjoying each other's company, looking up at the two you can't help but give them a loving smile placing a kiss on your captains cheek who leans into it. Luffy squeezes your thigh getting you to look at him, so he can lean in and place his lips on yours for a short kiss, you smile into it going back in for more while reaching up and placing your hand on his cheek. Zoro smiles at the two of you taking Luffy's chin once you fully pull away form the kiss to turn the captain to face him leaning in and crashing his lips onto Luffy's who giggles a little into the kiss.
Laying your head in Luffy's shoulder you look back out at the sea only to spot something in the distance. It looked like a ship but it was painted black and the sails where dark red, it looked like a pirate ship but didn't have a jolly Rodger, it was also heading right for the Sunny seeming to be at full sleep "Guys" You state standing only for something to hit the ship causing it to rock and made everyone fall over or grab onto something. "We're under attack, there's two ships behind us and one on each side" Robin yells spotting the ships that all look the same heading your way. Another cannon ball almost hits the ship but Sanji kicks it away and back at one of the other ships causing it to slow down. Standing everyone gets ready to fight and deflect cannon fire as Nami steers the ship while Franky and Usopp get the cannons ready. Luffy heads to the back with Sanji and Brook to try and stop the ships behind them while you, Robin, Chopper and Zoro deflect cannon fire, the two ships on either side launching cannonball after cannonball. They where either sliced in half or sent flying back but the ships still kept coming. You gasp and yell out to Robin running and tackling her to the ground as a cannon ball almost hits her, "You ok?" You ask as the strange Blue cannonball hits the grass floor, Robin nods as you help her up only the two of you to feel very dizzy.
Blue smoke pools out of the whole that cannonball made starting to cover the deck, with your vision fading you try and get Robin and yourself away form the gas only for the two of you to fall to the floor as you cough "Y/N, Robin" Chopper tries to yell seeing you both collapses but as the gas covers the grassy deck he starts to feel dizzy too making the doctor fall to the floor. Zoro turns seeing the three of you on the ground and runs over to help while trying to hold his breath as to not be affected by the gas but stops upon hearing Nami "Get off of me" The navigator yells hitting a man with her staff that somehow got into the ship, others start to surround the orange haired woman as one of the ships on the side slams into the Sunny causing it to rock and get shoves to the side. Bandits with gas masks on rush onto the ship but are quickly cut down by Zoro. Luffy suddenly goes flying and lands on the grass deck hitting his back against the stairs "Captain" Zoro yells out cutting down another man as the ships behind them also ram into the Sunny more Bandits getting off throwing gas balls at the swordsman. Luffy coughs and stands up readjust his hat, they somehow have sea prism weapons and somehow managed to get onto the ship without them knowing. Sanji and Brook were knocked out in the fight either by a blue smoke ball or being hit by sea prism weapons but that didn't stop the Captain form continuing to fight and save his crew.
The gas on the deck made Luffy cough a little as he looks around the deck seeing his crew passed out and bandits trying to attack Zoro, the captain growls and lifts his head up to use his haki only for a gas ball to explode next to his face. Zoro swings his sword cutting a gas ball in half before going to help Luffy, the swordsman is finding it harder and harder to hold his breath, the gas starting to affect his movement's but cuts a bandit away that tries to hit Luffy who falls to his knees coughing while trying to stay awake. It isn't long before Zoro collapses to his knees panting and feeling light-headed "Zo-ro" Luffy calls out before passing out soon follows by Zoro. With the Sunny now silent you lay on the floor next to Robin who seems to also be fighting to stay awake even though both your body's feel paralyzed. Foot steps approach but all you can do is move your eyes to look up at one of the men in gas masks "Still awake?" The man laughs lifting up his bat to hit you only for another man to run over and grab the bat "Dude... what did the captain say? Don't damage the goods" The man sighs letting go of the bat and watching his mate groan "But she's still awake" The man with the bat groans looking back down at you before walking away. The man who saved you form a bat to the face bends downs down with a small blue ball in his hand "It's ok now, just sleep. Your new owners will take good care of you" You could tell by his tone of voice he was being sarcastic, squeezing the ball in his hand it pops, the blue gas fills your senses making you lightly cough before blackness takes over your vision.
Cold, thats all you can feel as you start to wake up, your eyes are heavy unable to open as you try to sit up only for the feeling of cold metal against your wrist to weigh your arms down. You force yourself up to sit against what feels like a wooden wall, the sound of water crashing getting much louder now your against it "Shit she's awake" A male voice catches your ears one you don't recognize, opening your eyes a man opens the metal cell door and walks over "Just give her another dose" Another voice calls out walking down the wooden stairs. You can tell your on a ship, probably one of the ones that attacked you and your crew but your alone, none of the others in sight and you can't feel their aura. "Can't hand her over looking like shit, do you know who the hell were dealing with?" The man in front of you bends down growling at the man behind him who leans against the open cell door. The man in front of you grabs the thick cuffs around your wrists and checked them over "W-who?" You manage to get out making the man smile and move some hair out of your face, you try to move away but the sudden action makes you dizzy the man laughing a little and laying down you on the cold wooden floor "Don't worry about that, you'll be home soon" The man stands walking out of the cell the other man locking it and following the other up the stairs into the sun light.
If its bright outside then it must be morning so you've been out for a while, getting a good look around you notice a bunch of cells around you but most are full of crates. Their not bounty hunters, and they don't seem like regular crooks, maybe their slave traders but why target you? so many questions ran through your head but you needed to get out. Forcing yourself to sit up again you groan, your body feels heavy and your head hurts a little, looking down at yourself all your stuff is gone and your only wearing a dirty gray dress with no shoes. Looking down at your thick black cuffs you sigh knowing your not going anywhere feeling like this so your best bet is to take in everything around you, sight, smell, sound and touch, that why when you do make it out you have enough information to hopefully get back to the sunny. Closing your eyes you listen to the waves and feel how the ship moves, you take note of any slight shift of the ship while also managing to catch a conversation form above now and again. There wasn't much to go off but one thing did catch your attention, a commanding voice seemed to make the others feel uneasy, maybe it was their captain so you focused on him a little sooner managing to catch where you were going, the red line. It means you were heading back to fish man island and that wasn't too far away.
Listening closer you gasp in shock at what you hear "Red Port, we'll get the lift up and hand her over so make sure she looks presentable... If there's any marks the celestial's will dock our pay" The Captain sighs his foot steps fading away as does your attention. Tears well up in your eyes, this can't be happening, you gonna be sold off to the celestial dragons. You heard horror stories of what they've done and you've met a few, Luffy even punched one but why you of all people. If these slavers went out of their way to take you and bring you right to the celestial's front door than they must have asked for you specifically but again why you? As much as your glad Nami and Robin didn't get taken you know their way more beautiful than you and your bounty is in between the two so why you? That question keeps running through your head even when you try to stop it, fear taking over your body wondering if their going to torture you or out right kill you but again why you? "Please" You whisper to yourself trying to stop your spiraling thoughts as tears stream down your cheeks.

𝐋𝐔𝐅𝐅𝐘
✧ With Luffy, there are two atmospheres.
✧ The first is after grueling fights or if he is poisoned, he is the type to drop like a fly without going through the "sleepy" phase. One moment he is fully conscious, and the next he is so asleep that even a cataclysm will not wake him.
✧ He can also fall asleep at the worst times!
✧ Otherwise, he continues to jump around screaming for meat or his teammates until he no longer has a single atom of energy in his body.
✧ When he is in between awake and asleep, he will become quite childish.
✧ A pro at staying awake as long as possible while moaning "I don't want to sleep" when everyone sees 100 kilometers away that he can no longer keep his eyes open.
✧ When he falls asleep, it will FINALLY be silence.
Tumblr media
𝐙𝐎𝐑𝐎
✧ He is used to naps so the habits are there.
✧ You know he is tired when you see him wandering around to find his little corner of the sun where he can do his sleeping beauty with, obviously, always a place to religiously put his swords within reach.
✧ He is a routine man so the corners are always the same on the boat.
✧ He also becomes a lot grumpier. Sanji has no interest in dragging him around.
✧ If you ask him something at that moment, he huffs but he does it. He still drags his feet like a teenager and you don't need a doctorate in archeology to understand that it annoys him. But he likes you so he will still do what you want.
✧ He will fall asleep as soon as he is in place. It's almost automatic.
Tumblr media
𝐍𝐀𝐌𝐈
✧ Sleepy Nami is more irritable than usual.
✧ As soon as she gets a chance to go into bed, she will grab it like it's a mountain of berries.
✧ She has trouble falling asleep because of the annoyance.
✧ She may be tired as hell, but she won't be able to relax enough to fall asleep quickly.
✧ At some point, she will be too cold so she covers herself in blankets. Then she will be too hot so she takes off the covers. But she will have discomfort in her back so she changes positions. Except that the music that Franky and Brook have been singing all day will be stuck in her head.
✧ There's no point in speaking to her in these cases otherwise, it's guaranteed death!
✧ She also tends to steal every blanket imaginable in order to make the most comfortable bed possible.
Tumblr media
𝐔𝐒𝐎𝐏𝐏
✧ A tired Usopp is much slower than usual. He walks slower, talks slower and thinks slower.
✧ He also complains a lot more.
✧ Expect dramatic “But I want to sleeeeeeeeeep!” as if he was going to die or solemn "Chopper, I don't think I could go any further. Go without me, I will only slow you down" under the panicked cries of the reindeer.
✧ The most significant signal is when he starts jumping at everything and nothing.
✧ At the slightest noise, he jumps several centimeters as if he had just been awakened from micronaps, standing with his eyes open.
✧ He also rubs his eyes more.
Tumblr media
𝐒𝐀𝐍𝐉𝐈
✧ To say it gets clingy is an understatement.
✧ Until he finally falls asleep at midnight, he will be stuck to you like a mussel to a rock.
✧ He's constantly hugging you from behind or putting his arm around your shoulders. His arms will look more like chains than human limbs after a while.
✧ He pouts if you move away.
✧ Will beg you to go to bed early with him for cuddles.
✧ The rest is up to you.
✧ If he's having trouble sleeping, running your hand through his hair will work wonders. Really. He would kill for the slightest sign of affection when he is half asleep.
Tumblr media
𝐑𝐎𝐁𝐈𝐍
✧ A sleepy Robin doesn't change much compared to usual.
✧ The only signal is that she is slightly more distracted.
✧ If you ask her a question, it will take a few seconds before she looks away from the blank space and turns her confused eyes to you so that you repeat what you said.
✧ She's not really trying to fight sleep.
✧ As soon as she mysteriously disappears without warning from your side, you know where to find her. She will already be comfortably asleep in her bed without waiting for you to arrive.
✧ Pretty sleeper by excellence, by the way.
Wow, you find my 4th Easter Egg! take this ψ lemon meringue pie ψ, it's my favorite pastry

Zoro dating headcanons? Maybe where they are sorta ljke the grumpy x sunshine duo?
OPLA! Zoro Dating Headcanons
Author's note: I love this request so much, I am such a sucker for the grumpy x sunshine trope! x Hope you enjoy! credit to the artwork below: "The Art of Thor: Love and Thunder"
Tumblr media
When you and Zoro first got together, it was a surprise for everyone.
Sure, you had a crush on him since the moment you joined the crew and you have always been open about your feelings, but nobody expected for Zoro to return them back... at least not so soon.
Zoro has always been quiet and stoic man, who valued discipline, strength and peace. He is always trying his best to stay out of trouble, despite this being a nearly impossible mission with having Luffy as captain.
You, on the other hand, are loud, energetic and always causing chaos. Your curiosity and unfiltered mouth often get you in dangerous situations, from which the swordman has to get you out of.
Despite finding your reckless behaviour annoying at first, it did became the reason he fell for you. Maybe because it felt good to be your knight in shining armour who was always there to save the day or maybe because following you in your adventures made him feel as if he can see the world in a new light through your eyes... It was unclear how and why it happened, but when he fell in love, he fell hard.
Zoro is extremely protective. Maybe a little bit overbearing at times. He knows you have tendency to act before you think and your close friendship with Luffy, who was full of bad ideas, was just another reason why he always felt he had to keep an eye on you.
Despite this he is not big fan of PDA. He will stay close to you, maybe even touch your shoulder or back when no one is looking, but he won't be very affectionate, especially when they are people around.
That, of course, does not stop you from seeking to be close to him every chance you get. Jumping on his back, wrapping your arms around his neck, pepping his whole face with kisses, while he groans in annoyance, holding his hand - every time you are near him, you have to be touching him.
He likes to pretend he is irritated with your antics, but he secretly loves having you so close to him. That's why he also never pushes you away.
He is not a big sharer, but he is a good listener. He can listen to you talk for hours (which given your chatty personality is not a hard task). When you decide to ask him questions, though, expect one or two worded answers.
With that being said, you need to be patient with him. I imagine you would have some experience with love and previous relationship, but this is all new to him. Every emotion, every thought, every desire is new and he is still figuring it out how to deal with it all.
He does find comfort in the fact that you are very open and honest person. Whatever you think, you say without even processing it first. He finds this comforting, as he never has to wonder what you think or how you feel.
Your honesty does sometimes put him in uncomfortable positions though... "Damn, Zoro, you are looking so fine with these swords! I wonder if you want to show me the fourth sword in private later-" "Y/N, please, we are literally in the middle of a fight."
He does get easily embarrassed and you DO enjoy making him embarrassed. Either calling him cute nicknames or making flirty comments, you know the way to make this man's face redder than a tomato.
Despite your differences, this man would literally die for you. Everything with you is new to him and while it may sound cheesy, you do make him a better man. With you, he is exploring a softer, more gentler side, that he never even knew was there.

Tumblr media
Luffy ,Zoro,Law reacting to A GN!marine leaving Thier marine job to join their crew
Tumblr media
Luffy
let's be honest he probably asked you to join him and you were 'damn why not' and decided to give up your Marine officer position and join him
strawhats propaganda be working so good ig??
- He is actually surprised but happy you Left the marine to join him
if crew says no ,he will be" ): plz guys they are so cool! They almost kicked Zoro ass In the fight earlier " and zoro will be like ''they DID NOT "
he is so goofy ,he will accept you joining with open arms , welcome to the crew
you will be the new member who will die from heart attack everytime luff pull the crew and jump from a high building, welcome to the team
-you will most likely get along the most with Franky because he will the most understandable of you begin a former enemy (a marine) since he kinda also was that himself
also robin was bit suspicious of you at first but she warmed up to you quickly since she low-key trust Luffy judgement (she shouldn't)
good luck getting rid of Luffy ,he will up your face everyday till he eventfully get used of you begin around the ship
if you joined cuz you're in love with him, good luck with making him realize that ,he is as bright as a rock when it come to these things and will take a long while for him to return those feelings
Everyone respect your gender neutral identity,Luffy a bit confused about it but he really Be trying his best
" HE/SHE GO BY THEY/THEM PRONOUNCE !!! don't disrespect them!!!!"
he is very supportive dw he will get the jest of it soon enough by nami beating his ass into remembering it correctly
you either going to join the no braincells team (Zoro,Luffy, Chopper) ,or the almost functional braincells team (Sanji , Usopp,Franky) , or the braincells (Jinbe, nami, robin) ,pick wisely it will effect your future with the crew and the adventures
10/10 best decision you made of your life
Tumblr media
Zoro
You have to ask Luffy first and since Luffy have 1 braincell and he agreed quickly, Zoro was okay with you joining even though you were a former marine ,the more the merrier (?)
Will be very skeptical about you leaving for him(?) Why would you? He won't question it to you in your face ,but he is wondering often about your reasoning
joined cuz you like him? He is low-key flustered by that and he will not show it,he will eat his left leg before showing that he is flustered by that
joined cuz he inspired you and you find him awesome and so strong and inspiring and want to be like him? You're his new best friend ig ,he need validation, thank you giving him some
new sparing buddy which is him kicking your ass the whole sparing match and only begin apologetic cuz chopper is scolding him as he bandage you up ,but you don't care ,you look at Zoro with admiration anyway ,and that make Zoro heart soften a bit
you end up spending lot with time with him ,ya even convinced him to shower after every training session he have as you both talk while vibing fr ( everyone on the crew is so thankful for you)
you learn that he is secretly a very sweet guy ,which is not a surprise, the whole crew is very sweet,Zoro is really good at hiding it behind his tough personality
you both end up bonding over your passion for your dreams, his begin the greatest swordman and yours is begin the baddest bitch alive
He respects your gender identity fr ,he is like Luffy but more careful about it ngl
" good to know shitty swirly eyebrows won't bother you then" Sanji would give him a mean look " (y/n) still beautiful and I'm not bothering any-NAMI SWAAAAN YOU LOOK SO BEAUTIFUL" smmmh
He is like a good companion, you try to make him not get lost, but end up getting lost together because he is too prideful to follow your direction (you were right about going left)
he find your present comforting and he like taking naps with you sitting next to him, keeping an eye out for him
two pretty best friends ( maybe more..?)
Tumblr media
Law
impressed,Almost was going to tell you no out of pettiness but ehhhh you fought him well and actually managed to not be shambled into pieces (and You are kinda cute he had to agree with Shachi and penguin)
if you joined because you just want to join him in his journey and admire him, cool he don't mind ,the more the merrier
if you joined him because it's some love in first sight kind of reasons, he would be cool ,as long you respect his captain authority he doesn't care (on the insides he is a flustered mess)
he agreed, why not more helping hands in the crew ,good luck with the cleaning duty for the first month cuz he want to test your limits
you had no limits cuz you cleaned everything the first two hours and kinda went on to vibe with the crew, impressive but he grumpy cuz he was hoping to make you feel like the hard tasks
doesn't mind you Begin GN ,he have a mink as a right hand, the world have giant people live in,not even surprised by it ,he kinda even like it some of his crew already express themselves that way so good for you,you won't feel so out of place in this crew
he is a good captain and a very good friend you will learn that from interacting with the crew,he is very responsible and very understanding
if you fail a task , he would in fact guide you through it to how to be successful at it,he might be a past warlord and The surgeon of death, but he quite the good captain
he would like to spar with you from time to time cuz you're kinda nice to to look at but he won't admit that's the actual reason
he is like a cat,he slow blinks at you and he hope you understand he is begin affectionate with you ,you either get it and be happy about it or you wonder why tf is your captain blinking in Morse code 'you need frogs' so much
the crew is betting on when you both will end up realizing you like each others , hopefully soon
Unfortunately it will take literally 2 years of slow burn, two almost death experience to have law kinda realizing that, unlike you ,you kinda realized that after seeing him shirtless once
M sick again 🫶 went to ER nd they said I was too dehydrated ,smh,,, hopefully this post good for now

(masterpost)
<- (previous chapter)
You awoke to Mimi hitting your face with her soft paw while sitting on your chest. You rolled over, causing Mimi to leap off and onto your pillows. She meowed, offended.
"Good morning," you grumbled, blindly reaching out to pet her, but she stayed out of the reach of your fingertips. These mornings never get old. You didn't know why Mimi didn't bother Estella instead, considering the older woman often woke before you. I'll find Estella in the gazebo outside at this hour. You rolled over again, watching the clouds pass behind your green curtains, and thought of the moss-haired swordsman. I bet he's already gone. The whole crew probably set sail this morning.
Mimi meowed louder this time.
"Yes, I'm awake."
The day waited for no man (or cat). Mimi wound her body through your ankles, determined to trip you and meowing incessantly until you finally fed her. Afterward, you opened the back door to the sound of giggling children and laughing adults.
"Big sister!" Clover, a seven-year-old girl with bright lilac eyes and long dark hair, ran to you. "Play jump rope with us!"
"We don't—" your words cut off, realizing that the unfamiliar laughter belonged to Luffy, and he was using his rubberized arm as a jump rope. Aiden's brown curls bounced when he jumped, his face red and serious.
"Mornin'," Luffy said your name, "you can have a turn after Aiden, but he's doing a seriously good job; like, look at this – it's impressive!"
Clover said, "We're waiting for Sanji to finish cooking, and then we get to have a great big feast. Isn't that right, Grandma?"
Estella's eyes glimmered like melted toffee, "Indeed, that's right, my girl." She sat under the shade of a palm tree beside Nami and smiled at you.
Suddenly, three children screeched in delight, and you turned to your left to see Usopp gesturing wildly.
"The great octopus was upon us!" he said, "and so I lifted my slingshot. That's when I realized I only had one ammunition left..."
Utakuro, Ann, and Badger were wholly absorbed in his story, their eyes bright and small arms clinging to one another like they were each other's lifeboats. You took a small, hesitant step backward. It's too late to hide back in the house. You didn't want to go into the kitchen despite your rumbling stomach. Not because you disliked Sanji, but because you weren't sure how to cope with all of this...exuberance. It wasn't even midday, and everyone acted like today was a big party. Did everyone forget the golden cupid was attacked and destroyed last night?
Aiden flopped onto the sand, panting.
"Okay, big sister, it's your turn." Clover pulled you forward. Why is she so strong for a seven-year-old? You thought ruefully. You couldn't argue with Clover (unless you wanted to lose). Her willpower and stubbornness were as terrifying as a tsunami.
Luffy asked, "Ready?"
You shrugged and blinked the last dredges of sleep from your eyes.
"On three," you said.
Tumblr media
"You're a great help, Clover," Sanji said as the little girl helped him carry the large platters of food. She giggled in response and carried the plate of onigiri to the picnic blanket.
"About time," Zoro quipped, sitting cross-legged and leaning against the palm tree. Sanji's gaze slid over the ill-tempered swordsman, ignoring him, and focused on you. You laid on your back, your face shiny with sweat, and a small brown-haired child – no older than five, Sanji guessed – sat on your chest.
"Get up, big sister!" the child said, pulling at the front of your shirt. "Come on! Again!"
Sanji thought you looked radiant.
"Not now, Aiden," you said.
"She needs to regain her strength," Sanji added. He saw Luffy and the children playing jump rope from the kitchen window. When you joined, your expression was fond and exasperated. Sanji was surprised and touched. How many layers do you have, performer? He wondered to himself. A decent fighter, loved by children, looking after your grandmother...There was so much about you he didn't know and likely would never learn. He doubted Luffy would stay at Nightingale Island for another day. The Grand Line awaited them.
He set down the platter containing the main dish: stuffed rolled omelets with spinach and mozzarella alongside steamed rice, onigiri, and miso soup. The technique to roll the omelet had been tricky but rewarding, and his heart glowed with pride. He loved cooking, and more than the act itself—he loved sharing his cooking.
"This looks amazing, Sanji," Luffy said.
Estella said, "It does. Thank you again, Sanji."
Sanji smiled softly. "It was no trouble." He offered a plate to Estella. "And might I add that you are absolutely radiant this morning, Madam."
You chuckled. "Don't fall for his charm, Grandma."
"I've got plenty of charm to spare," he said, "I thought you were beautiful last night, but you're even more stunning in the daylight."
He assumed you'd roll your eyes, scoff, or laugh awkwardly, which were the typical reactions whenever he flirted with a woman. However, you surprised him for the second time this morning. You held your plate, the steam wafting toward your chin, and stared at him. His face prickled with awareness. He felt flayed, like raw fish on the cutting board, before your perceptive eyes cut away and left him dumbfounded. What was that? He cleared his throat and adjusted his smile back onto his face before serving the brown-haired boy – Aiden – a small portion of omelet and rice.
"Are you leaving today?" You asked the crew.
He watched your graceful hands push Clover's long, straight hair out of her face and tuck it behind her ears. Clover grinned up at you and whispered a soft 'thank you' before she started to eat. They've got quite the little family here. He wondered what would happen if someone wanted to adopt Clover or any other children or if they remained in Celesta's home for lost children until adulthood.
"Probably," answered Luffy.
Your eyes fell to your plate, but Sanji wasn't sure if it was disappointment or relief that crossed your lovely face.
"I do have a favor to ask," Estella said, "if you wouldn't mind hearing me out. You've already done so much for us, so I won't take it personally if you refuse."
At her words, your eyes snapped upward, and you groaned aloud.
"Shush, songbird." Estella patted the back of your hand.
Zoro muttered, "Saving your business wasn't enough?"
Nami elbowed him, and Sanji glared at the moss-head. He has no social tact. Although he suspected Nami was only interested in the monetary benefit of helping the affluent Madam Estella. However, Luffy rarely turned down an opportunity to help someone. He liked that about their captain, even if it got them into trouble. You pushed the leftover food on your plate onto Aiden's and ruffled his brown curls.
"On the other side of Nightingale Island is a place known as Raven's Crag."
"A myth," you interrupted, "a fairy tale that we tell tourists."
"Inside Raven's Crags is an ivory puzzle box. A part of Pandora's treasure, I believe." She said, ignoring your interruption. "I'm too old to get it. It's the final piece of my collection. I know you said I should get it regardless of my age, but I can't leave the island, which is why –"
Luffy cut in, "Completing this collection is your dream, right?"
"It is."
Luffy said, "We'll help you."
"She'll go with you." Estella gestured to you. "It's good to get her out of the house."
"But, Grandma, the shows!"
Sanji's heart swelled. She sounds like me when I wouldn't leave Zeff. He couldn't help but acknowledge the similarities between you both. You and Estella shared an intense bond that transcended any blood you shared, and he wished to know more. He wanted to understand your relationship with the old woman. He wanted to understand you. You interested him.
"Your show doesn't happen until the next full moon, and besides, we need to repair the golden cupid anyway." Estella smiled and cupped your cheek. "Do me this favor, my girl."
Perhaps I'll have time to ask her when aboard the Merry.
"Fine," you said it begrudgingly.
"Cool!" Clover's eyes brightened. "Big sister gets to go on an adventure."
Several of the children, many of whom Sanji didn't know the names of, began to speak at once.
"I want to come!"
"Me too!"
"You're not old enough."
"I am."
"I want to be like the brave Captain Usopp!"
"Does big sister get a sword?"
"I want a sword!"
"Enough, enough." Estella's voice rang out above the rest. "Nami, could we speak in my trinket room? That's where I keep all my maps."
Nami, balancing her plate on her knees, said, "Of course."
Tumblr media
Zoro stood with his arms crossed outside Estella's trinket room. This annoying black cat kept running into his ankles and making soft 'prrupb' noises. He gently pushed the cat away with his foot for the thousandth time.
"Get lost," he grumbled.
The cat, undeterred, rolled onto its back and wiggled.
"Whatever," Zoro said to the cat, "I'm going to the ship."
The cat trotted ahead of him as if it was leading the way. This stupid cat was going to trip him. He nudged the cat away, but it continued to follow him.
Zoro said, "What're you doing? You live here. Stay."
The staircase creaked behind him. He turned to see you dressed comfortably and holding a bag over your shoulder. He searched your face, waiting for that feeling to overtake him like it did in the golden cupid, but nothing happened. It must've been some kind of fluke, he told himself, some part of the performance. Maybe they spike their booze with something.
"Good luck getting Mimi to listen," you said, adjusting the strap of your bag. "She listens to two things in this world – fresh tuna and live mice."
"She doesn't listen to you then?" he said, pushing the black ball of fluff to the side, watching her short and stubby feet scramble against the hardwood. Determined little creature, he'd give it that credit at least.
You laughed. "Nope."
Nami entered the hallway holding a map and said, "Okay, it should only take us about four hours to reach Raven's Crag."
"That's plenty of time for a nap at least," said Zoro.
"Didn't you already sleep in this morning?" Sanji tucked his hands into his pockets, tilting his head slightly. Zoro's pulse throbbed inside his temples. Annoying ass, nosy cook.
"That's not your business, is it?"
Luffy slung his arms over Zoro and Sanji's shoulders, "Enough talking! Estella's treasure is waiting for us. Let's go!"
Mimi's black tail stood at attention, and she trotted soundlessly in the sand behind the pirates.
Tumblr media
You unintentionally trailed behind the crew, perhaps out of some subconscious urge to delay your departure. You disliked that Estella tossed you into this situation, but you understood her reasoning.
It wasn't that she wanted you out of the house. It was the fact that she trusted you. Traveling to Raven's Crag was risky enough regardless of whether someone traveled by sea or by land, which was why she never sent you alone. Estella saw an opportunity within these pirates. That's all this was.
Sanji slowed his long strides until he was walking with you.
"Zeff," he said suddenly, "that's his name."
"Huh? Who?"
"The person who Estella reminds me of," Sanji said.
The sunlight caressed its light through his white-blonde hair and framed his lean form. His dark suit jacket, hooked by two fingers, swung over his shoulder. If you didn't know any better or hadn't seen him fight with your own eyes, then you wouldn't have suspected Sanji to be anything more than a well-dressed tourist. The palm trees rustled and swayed overhead, listening silently to your conversation.
"Our ship was caught in a terrible storm after being attacked by Zeff's crew," he said, his eyes bright in the sun. "We were stranded on a rock together for weeks."
"Quite the bonding experience," you said.
Sanji chuckled softly. "Indeed."
He continued his story, although you couldn't surmise the reason as to why he felt compelled to share it. He told you about his shared dream with Zeff to find the 'All Blue' and how Zeff ate his own leg rather than allow Sanji to starve. The pieces started to click into place. On some level, Sanji understands how Estella takes care of me, even though he doesn't know the whole story.
However, you weren't inclined to share your story with him even after he graciously shared his. You saw the similarities between Sanji and yourself. Estella was an older woman, someone to whom you felt indebted, who looked after you as much as you looked after her. She didn't lose a limb to save you, but she would have—if it came to it. And you would gladly risk life and limb for her. That was the depth of your bond.
You stopped walking, and sunlight poured heat across your exposed skin like liquid gold. Your heartbeat felt loud in your ears. You were half-aware of Luffy excitedly talking as he boarded the Going Merry.
Sanji said your name with curiosity and concern, bleeding through his tone.
You met his eyes and let their intense all-blue burn into you.
"It sounds like he loved you," you said.
Sanji's expression shuddered as your words hit their mark. You didn't intend to wound him. Not exactly, anyway. However, you needed a well-placed truth to silence him. You didn't need Sanji to draw conclusions about your relationship with Estella. You needed him to mind his business, make breakfast, and help you find Pandora's final puzzle box. You weren't here to make friends.
Sanji shook his head. "Speaking of love," he said quickly.
"Yeah, speaking of love, I'd love some peace and quiet," you said before he could continue his thought.
Nami laughed from her spot at the helm, and you smiled to yourself.
Sitting on the sheep head, Luffy lifted his arms overhead and yelled, "To Raven's Crag!"

*****
You had never struck him as particularly prudish, at least as far as the clothes you wore were concerned; on the ship you dressed practically, like the rest of the crew, but liked to doll yourself up when the two of you had a date, or went out for drinks with the rest of the crew. Sanji liked you whatever you wore (or wouldn't wear, he added in the privacy of his thoughts; he was a gentleman, determined not to pressure you, and holding you in his arms as you exchanged lazy kisses and caressed each other was more than enough, but it would have been a lie to say the thought of seeing you in your birthday suit wasn't enticing) but he was flattered to know you made yourself pretty when the two of you went out together, and he was proud to have people see him with a pretty girl like you by his side. He particularly liked when you wore a short skirt, since your legs were so lovely, and there was a off-the-shoulder top you owned that showed enough of your cleavage that Sanji had felt himself go red in the face the first time he had seen you wear it.
There was just one time you had looked ill at ease because of what you wore, and Sanji barely remembered it, since it had happened just two days after he had joined the crew. It was a particularly hot day, and he and his new friends agreed a swim was exactly what they needed; the boys (except for Luffy, obviously, who had remained on the deck) made do with a pair of shorts before jumping in the pleasantly cold water, while Nami was wearing a bikini in a colour that complimented the red of her hair.
"I have another one you can borrow if you want, (name)." she said, after you said you didn't own a swimsuit, and Sanji, who was walking past the two of you with a tray of cold drinks, felt his heart skip a beat at the prospect of seeing you in a bikini as well.
"No, thank you." you answered; you seemed uncomfortable, just for a moment "I think I can manage."
In the end, you swam wearing a shirt tucked in a pair of shorts; Sanji felt disappointed for a moment, but you proposed to play chicken fight all together, and the two of you won against Nami and Usopp, which was nice, and the celebratory hug the two of you shared even more.
On the next island the Merry docked at, after you and your friends had become involved in a fight with another pirate crew who had mistaken Zoro for the son of a local lord and tried to kidnap him for ransom, you went shopping with Nami and bought a one-piece swimsuit in a colour that complimented your everything.
"How do I look?" you asked him after putting it on for the first time, and it took him a while to answer, because seeing you in a swimsuit, no matter how demure, had made Sanji lose the power of speech.
"Extraordinary."
Sanji vaguely wondered why you had refused to borrow Nami's swimsuits; he thought that maybe you didn't like bikinis, or you deemed unhygienic to wear something belonging to someone else on naked skin. In the end, it was such an unimportant matter he had almost forgotten it, even though he did remember, after another, only apparently unrelated, event.
Two months had passed since you and Sanji had officially become a couple, three since your first kiss. You were together on your bed, and what had started as innocent cuddling had naturally, spontaneously become something much more exciting and fervent.
He was hungry, starving, for you (for the mouth he kept kissing, for the warmth of the body in his arms, for the sweet relief he imagined he would find when you would finally open your legs for him) while you unbuttoned his shirt and then helped him take it off; Sanji hungrily kissed you, as he felt your chest pressed against his, your heart beating twice as fast as normal, the softness of your breast so sweet under his hands. In the semi-darkness of the cabin, he gently laid you down on the bed, and felt your legs wrap around his waist.
"You are so beautiful." he murmured, and he heard you giggle.
"You can't even see me." you pointed out as you caressed his chest.
"But I know you; I know you are the most beautiful girl in the four seas."
"Oh, Sanji..."
You kissed again, and again, your mouths and bodies almost feverish as they searched for each other, explored each other, and found new ways to give each other pleasure. Sanji moaned when he felt your lips descend along his neck, to his chest and then to his abdomen. "(name)". he murmured, more fervent than any prayer he had ever uttered "My (name)..."
Fondling your breast through the fabric of your shirt was heavenly, but Sanji needed more; he slipped his hand under the lower hem, already anticipating the moment he would worship your beautiful body as you deserved... and a moment later you had grabbed his wrist.
"No."
"... sorry?"
"Please don't. I... I need to keep my shirt on."
Need. This is the word you chose to use, but in that moment Sanji didn't notice. The little light filtering under the door was enough to let him see you, now sitting on the bed, your arms wrapped around your torso as if afraid he would try to force you to take your shirt of.
"Please, Sanji-kun." you murmured, in a supplicant tone he had heard just once before... when he found you taking scraps out of the kitchen's garbage can. You sounded scared.
"Oh. All right." he said, sitting next to you; he was disappointed, but the last thing he wanted was making you uncomfortable "Of course."
"Sorry, I... I don't want to stop, just..."
"(name), it's all right. I... I think I need to go prepare lunch soon anyway."
"Oh. All right." you said, relief evident in your voice. Sanji put his shirt back on, you kissed him once more, affectionate and passionate as usual, and later, while you had lunch all together, you looked relaxed and happy as usual, but your boyfriend decided the two of you needed to talk a bit.
He found you later as you read sitting cross-legged on the deck, so pretty with the book in your hand, the wind stirring your hair and the hem of your skirt, the susurration of the waves all around you. The noise of his approaching steps made you lift your eyes from your book; you smiled as Sanji sat next to you.
"Hello."
"Hello. Bothering you?"
"Never. Come."
You smiled and rested your cheek on his shoulder, as clearly happy of that chaste closeness as you had been three hours earlier. Sanji would have liked nothing more than enjoying that quiet moment with you, but he felt the need to know, for the sake of the relationship you had just started building together.
"About earlier... when you asked me to stop..." he started, and your smile dimmed instantly.
"I'm..."
"You don't need to be; and you don't need to explain. Just... I wanted to know if I did something wrong, something... to make you uncomfortable..."
"Oh, no!" you immediately exclaimed, cupping his face in your hands to add emphasis to your words "You did nothing wrong at all. You were so sweet, so respectful. Believe me, it's not that I didn't want to... to be with you. I'm... I'm very attracted to you, Sanji-kun. I think you're very handsome."
He smiled, flattered. "Glad to know."
"As if you didn't. It's just... I don't feel comfortable with being seen shirtless. Would it bother you if I kept it on, while we are together? Or at least that we kept the room in the dark?"
"Only your shirt?"
"Yes. I'm fine with taking off everything else."
Now that was an unusual request, different from what Sanji had expected, that is, that you were moving too quickly considering you had only been together for a few months. Why was keeping your torso covered so important? Were you afraid he would find your body unattractive? Did you have a scar or some other blemish you wanted to keep hidden? The idea he would never see your naked beauty, and maybe never hold you in his arms, your skin against his, was more than a little disappointing, but Sanji didn't hesitate.
"Of course. Whatever you want, and feel comfortable with."
"Really? You are not... disgruntled?"
"I... don't want to be. You don't owe me anything, (name), even if we are together. Whatever problem one of us has, we can find a solution together. I want you to be happy; everything else doesn't matter."
"Oh, thank you! Oh, you are so sweet, Sanji-kun!" you exclaimed, clearly relieved, and kissed him soundly on the lips; you smiled, so close he could feel the warmth of your body on his skin "I promise I'll make it up to you."
He grinned. "Really?"
"Really. Soon, I promise. Thank you, I feel so lucky I am your girlfriend." you told him, and indeed, the joy and gratefulness in your eyes were almost overwhelming. Sanji couldn't say he knew and understood everything about you, not least because you were rather secretive about your past and never spoke much about your life before meeting Luffy, but what he had learnt, he loved, and he knew you reciprocated his feelings in full. Everything else didn't matter.
"I think I am the lucky one, actually." Sanji said; he let you go back to your book, and sat next to you for a while, enjoying the quiet happiness stemming from your warm, solid body curled up under his arm.
Weeks passed. Sanji kept cooking for his crew, kissing your ice-cream flavoured lips (by then you had to have tasted almost every variety in the world; you liked most of them, but chocolate was your favourite) and discovering corners of the sea he previously didn't even know existed. He couldn't have wished for a better life. The two of you kept meeting in one of the cabins when the others were away, cuddling and exploring each other's bodies; you were yet to be properly intimate, and Sanji couldn't say he was not anxious, but at the same time he could have gone on like this (moaning your name as you gently bit his neck between a kiss and another; grinding his hips against yours, until each of you could feel the other's arousal; kissing your breast through your bra after you had locked the door to keep the room in the dark) forever, and still he would be satisfied.
You were happy as well; because of him, and not just that. You now routinely polished your plate, even though you were the only member of the Straw-Hat pirates who had never asked for seconds, and one day that he inadvertently stepped on it as he reached you on your bed Sanji realized the broken beam on the floor wasn't creaking, meaning you had repaired it and weren't using it as an hidden storage anymore, which felt as the best news of his life.
Yes, everything was going perfectly for both of you; and then, as it often happens, destiny put a stick in your wheel - at least apparently.
*****
The blood staining his arms. The frantic heartbeat reverberating against his chest. The desperate, laboured breathing (proper to a person too stubborn and scared to let themselves give in, who kept drawing breath because they had ordered their lungs not to stop working, but whose energies were quickly failing) filling his mind and excluding any other thought. It was a terrible, nightmarish situation for Sanji, for whom not give in to panic had never been so hard.
Because that blood, that heartbeat, that breathing, were yours.
You shouldn't have even been there. While it was true that you had started practicing fighting with him and the others (after pointing out that while as a doctor your first duty was not to harm, you doubted that would matter to the various enemies your crew simply couldn't help constantly running into, and you didn't want to be a burden to your friends) you were still inexperienced, and on the day the Straw Hat pirates found themselves face to face with a whole platoon of Marines, Sanji asked (well, he begged) you to stay behind, preparing the Merry to depart as soon as your friends had gotten rid of their pursuers.
And you had... until you had seen Usopp get hurt on the battlefield, a stray bullet grazing his ankle as he strategically retreated towards the pier and making him stumble. Seeing your friend on the ground, you had unhesitatingly run to the battlefield to help him stand and carry him to safety.
And you had... even though it had meant being wounded yourself.
"Is she ok? Is she gonna...?" Usopp asked, anguish heavy in his voice, as he and Nami followed Sanji in the ship's tiny infirmary, fully furnished with everything a pirate doctor needed, and that they were unable to use "(name), I am so sorry! Can you hear me? I'm sorry, it is all my fault..."
"This will not help her." Nami brusquely pointed out, stopping him from advancing into the room; then, noticing the sniper's heartbroken expression, she rested her hand on his shoulder, doing her best to sound reassuring "We'll take care of her; you go help Luffy and Zoro."
"Are you sure?"
"Unless you have any experience as a doctor that you forgot to mention until now yes, I'm sure."
Still uncertain, Usopp hobbled out; he glanced at Sanji before crossing the door, but the cook didn't notice, too focused as he was on you, on how pale and hurt you looked as he gently laid you down on the infirmary bed. Judging from the red stain on your shirt, the bullet had hit you in the stomach, at least ten inches below your heart, but that didn't reassure him; you had lost so much blood, and if they didn't do something now, that alone would kill you.
"Hey, darling." he murmured, his hand gently cradling your head; you were drenched in sweat, apparently in too much pain to speak, but when he was able to meet your gaze, he saw you mouthing his name, and then another brief sentence.
"There is nothing to be sorry for; you saved Usopp, you were so brave. I am... I am so proud of you." he said; he had never felt so much the need to cry, but he had no time for that, not while you were still breathing "It's gonna be alright, I promise."
But how, he wondered. He knew Nami had no medical experience, and his only episode with something more serious than a migraine was that time he had burned his hand on a stove and Zeff had put an ointment on and then bandaged it; eve worse, you were too weak and in pain to guide them.
He couldn't lose you; he just couldn't. You couldn't die. You were too young, too beautiful and special and generous and clever and kind, and you had only wanted to help a friend in need and had not yet seen all your dreams come true. What could he do to help? Did you need a transfusion? You could have his blood - all of it if you needed it. And it didn't matter if the island they had just left was swarming with Marines, he would go back swimming, find the nearest doctor and bring him to you...
In the meantime Nami, equally worried but faster to act, had found everything she thought they would need (a plastic basin, sterile bandages, antiseptic, pliers, a pair of scissors, and a few other things she didn't even know the name of) in the room's various cabinets, and she was quick to place everything on the table next to the bed.
"We need clean water, and cloths to clean the wound." she said, instinctively taking charge; Sanji didn't consider himself a particularly passive person, at least when it was a life or death situation, but he had never been more grateful "But first, take off her shirt."
Sanji took the scissors from her fingers, ordering his hands to stop shaking, and placed the blades at the sides of the bottom hem of your shirt; half a second before he started cutting, your hand grabbed his wrist.
"No...!"
"It's ok, darling." he tried to soothe you "I just need to cut off your shirt, we need to check the wound."
"No!"
"(name)... I don't want to hurt you, I need..."
"No..." you said once more, no longer in a startled cry; he saw you mouth his name, and then please, and then shake your head in a desperate, determined refusal. Don't do it, you were telling him; it was plain to see, at least for someone who knew your heart, please, you mustn't. I don't want you to.
Sanji did it, quickly cutting the shirt in the middle, exposing your bra, the (apparently) deep wound next to your navel... and something else he for a moment did not know how to interpret. He remembered the promise he had made you, and how important it had been for you to keep your shirt on or at least to prevent him from looking at your torso, and whatever he had thought you wanted to keep secret, out of shame or modesty or something else... he would have never thought of that.
"What...? Is that a tattoo?" Nami asked as she prepared the bandages, at first only vaguely surprised, both since they had a way bigger problem on their hands and because after all that was not such an uncommon sight; a moment later she darkened, her eyes focused on her friend's still bleeding stomach "But that is..."
"What?" Sanji asked, for half a second forgetting he had never felt so scared, and helpless, in his life; for half a second, nothing was more important that knowing the truth "What is that? It seems..."
"I'll tell you later. Now, water and cloths." the navigator answered, calling him to order and passing him the basin; Sanji quickly obeyed, leaving the infirmary after a last, pained look to your motionless body on the bed. You met his gaze and then quickly averted yours, softly crying in shame.
*****
In the end, the wound was less deep, and therefore dangerous, than Sanji had feared; he and Nami had stopped the blood flow, she had been able to sew up the wound (and then puked in a bucket) while Sanji found a book to help them take care of you during your convalescence.
When they told the others you were feeling better and had told Nami you were confident you would heal perfectly, Usopp started to cry, overwhelmed with relief, Luffy cheered, and even Zoro laughed and clapped; your friends were happy they were not going to lose you, and Sanji hoped you knew how loved you were.
He prepared a broth for your dinner, light but rich to help you regain your strength, put it on a tray with a glass of water, and asked Nami to bring it to you.
"Don't you want to do it yourself? Don't tell me you have had a fight, with everything (name) is going through." Nami said. Sanji shook his head; he didn't feel comfortable telling her how clearly you avoided looking at him every time he visited you in the infirmary, as if too ashamed to look at the man who cared for you more than anything else.
"Can you tell me about her tattoo?" he asked once she had returned from the infirmary and happily reported you had already tucked in and were looking way better than the previous day "I don't want to gossip, but I'm worried for (name), even now that she is on the mend. If there is something worrying her, or that is making her sad, I need to know; I want to help her."
Nami nodded slowly, as if unsure it was her place to discuss her friend's personal matters, even if with the best intentions; in the end, she made sure the two of them were alone in the kitchen before speaking.
"I suppose you need to know, being her boyfriend and all that; and now that we know the truth, she will need all our support." she conceded "The one on her stomach... is different from most tattoos you see, right?"
Sanji agreed. Your tattoo was different from the flowers, butterflies or other delicate decorations he usually saw on the skin of girls your age; it wasn't even the name of a former boyfriend (which would have broken his heart) or a tribute to a loved one who had passed away. It seemed like a code, even though he had no idea what it was for: ten characters, numbers and letters without an apparent logic, and an hyphen in the middle.
"That code... that code is one of those slaves have tattooed, or even branded, on their skin by their masters. It cannot be washed away, so that a slave cannot hide their condition, and makes it easier for a master to prove they belong to him if a slave runs away."
Silence fell in the Merry's kitchen. Sanji was happy he wasn't holding anything fragile, or spillable, in his hands; for a whole minute he felt physically unable to speak.
"... a slave?" he whispered in the end.
"I'm afraid so. I have only read about it once in a book, a long time ago, but if I remember correctly, the first two numbers mean that (name) was born a slave, instead of being sold or captured." Nami explained; she looked ill, as if she felt the pain and misery their friend and doctor had to have felt while in captivity "While the last three letters refer to a country not far from the one where Luffy met her, which is where she must have been born. Poor, poor (name)..."
She looked at him, as if waiting for his reaction, waiting to know what he would do to comfort his girlfriend; the problem was Sanji had absolutely no idea.
"I'll talk to her." he decided in the end "Thank you for telling me the truth, I know it wasn't easy for you."
The orange-haired navigator shrugged. "(name) is my friend." she said, as if that explained everything. And it did.
Sanji knocked softly at the infirmary's door a minute later; from the inside, you softly invited him to enter.
He was happy to see the broth's bowl was empty, the tray placed on the little table next to the bed. Lying on your back, you turned your head to smile softly at him. "Hello."
"Hello to you. If you want to sleep for a while I can..."
"Not at all. Please, come, you know I'm always happy to see you."
Sanji smiled as he moved a chair next to the bed; on your request, he helped you sit on the bed, grimacing for the pain in your abdomen.
"I'm fine." you gently reassured him, noticing his alarmed expression "Or at least, I will be in a few days. I just need to rest, and to give my body time to heal. Sanji... I am so sorry."
He blinked, both of his hands cradling one of yours resting on the blanket covering the lower half of your body. "Sorry for what?" he asked, unable to think of something you could have to apologize for.
"You know. For... for not telling you about my tattoo. About my past. Nami told me you talked about it."
Sanji nodded. "Please don't be angry with her; she only wanted to help you."
You assured him you knew, and therefore you could never be angry with your friend. Rather, you expected him to be upset, or at least disappointed, that you had concealed such an important part of your past from him; Sanji had told you all about his childhood, at least after he had met Zeff, but in return he didn't even know where you were born. "It was unfair on my part; you are my boyfriend, and you have been nothing but kind and protective. I know that even people who are in a relationship are entitled to their privacy, but..."
Sanji smiled, a moment before lifting your hand to his lips to kiss the back of it; it pained him to see you like that, so full of shame and regret, but he knew that facing those emotions and sharing your secrets would make you feel better later.
"Exactly. It would have been different if you had not told me you were already in a relationship, if you had been married or had children, but... I am not angry, really. Not with you, at least." he admitted, and he sighed "I just wish I could have those who hurt and humiliated you here to make them beg for mercy at your feet."
You smiled, pained and grateful at the same time. "I know you would; and that is enough for me." you told him; you hesitated for a moment, and then whispered the name of the kingdom where you were born, and where slavery was still widely practiced.
"I have always been a slave, since I was taken out of my mother's womb. I received my tattoo when I was five, which is also when I started working in my master's farm together with the other slaves. The pain of the needle on my skin is the oldest memory that I have."
"You were put to work when you were five?"
"Oh, yes; and some other masters have their slaves branded even before that, even if naturally one can't really work when they are so little. My master lived in the countryside, and I and the other slaves worked in the fields and took care of the animals; at the same time, he was a very capable doctor, and he decided to instruct me and three others, to assist him in his work or to earn an higher price if he ever decided to sell us."
You sighed. "One day, or little by little, I will tell you everything." you promised, placing your free hand on top of his "I know I don't have to, but I want to; I want there to be no secrets between us. But it is not a pretty story, as you can imagine, so I'm not exactly anxious to relive those memories. Anyway, I lost my mother when I was nine, so there was nothing that could have kept me from escaping; and when the opportunity arose, I did, even though I knew the punishment for runaway slaves was enough to make you beg for death. I ran, and ran, and didn't stop until I reached a kingdom where slavery is outlawed, even though that didn't mean I was safe."
"That is where you met Luffy."
"Yes. We became friends in a matter of hours, you know how it is with him, and when he asked me to join his crew as ship's doctor, I didn't need to think twice. And then, just a few days later, I met you."
You were wearing a clean shirt, that Nami had helped you put on; lifting the bottom hem, you brushed your fingers against the bandage covering your abdomen. "I wish at least the bullet had hit me where my mark is." you muttered "It is too big to be covered by a scar, but still..."
"You could have it covered." Sanji suggested "With another tattoo, I mean; so that you could wear a bikini, or a top that leaves your stomach bare, and people would see just a flower or a butterfly. You wouldn't be forced to see it either, every time you take a shower."
You sighed. "I wish I could." you admitted "The problem is, it is illegal for a tattoo artist to help a runaway slave conceal their condition; rather, they are required by the law to denounce them, and most masters would also reward them for their help. I can't take a chance, any artist I could ask for help would only have to call the Marines, and I'd be brought back to my master. I have promised myself I would never go back, Sanji-kun; carrying the mark on my skin, and having to keep my stomach covered, is a price I'm happy to pay. Now I'm free, free to go wherever and do whatever I want, and this is the only thing that matters... together with you, that is." you added with a smile, that Sanji returned, his heart still full of anguish even though so many things he hadn't been able to explain about you made sense now.
"The reason why you ate so little... and were used to take food from the garbage can..."
"Well, slaves do not eat the same food as their master, as you can imagine; we often received scraps from his table, and I retrieved food that the cook had thrown away more times than I can count. As a slave, I ate in a day and a half as much as I do now in a single lunch, and was used to have food taken from me regularly, every time the master was displeased. I'll never be a bottomless pit like Luffy, but having been used to eat little for so long, for a while my stomach simply couldn't take more than that. Now that I have been with the crew for a while things are different, I got used to a regular diet, but until I met Luffy a single apple was enough to keep me satisfied for a day. Until I met you, for me food was not... something you enjoyed, and found pleasure in; I ate because otherwise I would die, and to avoid being lashed because I didn't have the strength to work."
"I see."
Sanji sighed, suddenly realizing he also had a secret he needed to share. "While we are at it, I also have a confession to make; I know of the food you kept hidden under a beam in your cabin. Months ago, soon after I found you taking food from the garbage can, I... I was worried for you, that you were suffering from an eating disorder or something like that, I went through your stuff. I'm so sorry, (name); I shouldn't have, whatever the reason."
"No, you shouldn't have." you agreed, and then smiled "But I could never be angry with you, especially since I know you wanted to help me. Let's make a pact: from now on, there will be no more secrets between us, and whenever one of us is worried or upset for some reason, we will talk about it. After all, being in a relationship means also this."
Sanji agreed. He wanted nothing more than to end the conversation, kiss you and lie next to you on the bed to cuddle for a while, but there was one last thing he needed to know.
"Of course; you can ask me whatever you want." you encouraged him, but it took your boyfriend a while to find the right words.
"As a slave, were you ever ordered to... I mean, since you are young and attractive, and I know that sometimes masters want to..."
"Oh. That."
A new, vaguely bitter smile appeared on your lips as you smoothed your shirt on your stomach. "Would you really like to know?"
"I am sorry if it is painful for you to talk about it, but since we have talked about becoming intimate... You know I would never force you to do anything in any case, but if you had... gone through a trauma..."
You kissed him. Quick but deep, as you rested your hand on the back of his head to steady yourself; and when you finally parted, he saw you smile - a real smile, full of joy. "You really are the sweetest man in the four seas, aren't you, Sanji-kun?" you asked "In any case, you needn't worry; that at least I was spared. My master enjoyed women and so did his sons, but none of them ever touched me, because... you see... for my mother it had been different."
"... you mean...?!"
"... that I was his, yes. It's ok." you hurried to add, seeing the shocked, outraged expression on your boyfriend's face "What is done is done, and since hopefully I'll never see him again, my master cannot hurt me anymore, and I am free to forget he was ever part of my life. I am not saying I wasn't traumatized by what I lived through; but at least I was luckier than many other slaves."
Silence fell on the two of you, a silence finally made not of unsaid things and secrets you didn't have the strength to share, but of the quiet, resilient awareness what you had gone through was known, and understood, and respected. Escaping captivity, and then becoming part of Luffy's crew, and even falling in love with Sanji and pursuing a relationship with him had not magically cured you of all the abuse and pain you had experienced; still, it was a step forward, as well as the best starting point you could ask for.
In the end, Sanji stood; he bent to kiss you once more, also deep, but not quick. "I'll let you rest for a while." he promised "If you feel up to it, later I can help you stand and you can come sit on the deck, enjoy the sun and the air."
"I'd love to." you answered; you didn't say thank you, because you knew he'd find it superfluous, and he could read it in your eyes anyway.
A last smile, and your boyfriend was closing the door of the infirmary behind him; you cautiously laid down on the bed, sighing contently, aware he, and the rest of your friends, were still a shout away. Aware, for the first time in your life, that you were not alone.
*****
"Will you really not tell me where we are going?" you asked, maybe for the fifth time since the beginning of the day. You were not worried, since you knew you could trust your friends and Sanji especially, but he was being uncharacteristically tight-lipped about your destination, which intrigued you a great deal.
It had all started early in the morning when, reaching the deck after helping Sanji wash the dishes after breakfast, and glancing at the map Nami was consulting next to you, you realized the ship was heading in a different direction from the one your navigator had set two days before.
"Has our destination changed?" you had asked, but Nami's only answer had been a wink and a knowing smile.
"Ask Sanji." she had told you, and when you had, your boyfriend had acted even more secretive, simply saying you would see it soon.
And now this. The island you had reached was mid-size but relatively unimportant for the crew's affairs, and you couldn't begin to understand why your boyfriend was acting so excited; he was leading you among the streets of a busy marketplace, clearly looking for something, or someone, even though he had told you he had never been on this island before.
"Let's see, it should be close... he said there was a bakery across the street..."
"Sanji-kun, is this about our ice cream dates? Are you looking for a famous parlour or something like that?"
"Sorry? Oh, no; but we'll get that to celebrate later. This is different... oh! Here it is!"
There was indeed a bakery across the street from the door you had stopped in front of; at first you thought it was a shop of some kind, apparently closed given the shut door, but the banner above the door advertised a very different sort of trade...
It was a tattoo parlour.
"Sanji, no." you whispered: you were wearing a shirt reaching down to your thighs and your stomach was perfectly covered, but you quickly glanced all around you, half-expecting to see Marines descend upon you to bring you back to your master "Please, let's go back to the Merry; I can't stay here, I told you..."
"It's all right."
How could he not understand? "No, it's not!" you repeated urgently; you appreciated he had your best intentions at heart, but could he not see the danger he was putting you in? "When they see my tattoo..."
"(name)." Sanji said as he took both of your hands in his, softly, as if begging you to listen to him instead of giving you an order; and this was the reason you found yourself suddenly unable to insist "I know; I haven't forgotten what you told me. Please, trust me; it is going to be fine."
You didn't answer, but remained where you were while your boyfriend knocked at the door.
"We are closed." a curt voice stated from the inside.
"This is Sanji from the Baratie."
"Oh! Just a second."
A moment later the door opened; a shaggy haired head peaked outside. "Are you sure you weren't followed?"
"Positive. Can we come in?"
"Of course; hurry, the fewer people see you the better."
The man who closed the door behind the two of you had to be roughly your mother's age, were she still alive; he was tall and somewhat fierce, the sort of individual you didn't want to meet in a dark alley at night, but then he smiled kindly at you, and you felt safe all of a sudden. His skin was, unsurprisingly, covered in ink; arms, neck, shins, any part of his body left exposed by his clothes was tattooed.
"You must be (name); it is good to meet you. And Zeff's boy! A real pleasure. I am Den, welcome to our island."
You both shook hands with him, before Den gave you a minute to look around. You didn't remember your only, traumatic visit to a tattoo parlour, but this was roughly like you imagined it. A work table cluttered with tools you didn't know the name of, coloured ink bottles, dirty rags and other things; a reclining chair with a stool and a floor lamp next to it; pieces of paper of all sizes on the walls, showcasing the various designs the artist could realize.
You looked at your boyfriend, both of your arms protectively hugging your abdomen. How can you be sure this man will not betray us?, you wanted to ask him, but before you could utter a word, Den lifted the bottom hem of his own shirt, exposing a large tattoo of dancing blue flames.
The tattoo covered his abdomen.
"I have been enslaved when I was eight, after a reversal of fortunes made my parents unable to pay their debts." he explained softly "When I was a little older than you, I was able to escape. I wandered around for a while, running from the Marines, and I thought I would starve or never find a home to call my own until I met a young woman who was the apprentice of a tattoo artist, and she decided to help me, even though her master would have probably killed her if he knew. She gave me this tattoo, to cover my slave mark; and then she taught me, so that we could do the same for whoever needs it."
"Den has met Zeff years ago; he told me all about this tattoo artist friend of his when I was younger, so I called the Baratie two days ago and asked for directions." Sanji happily explained "Den is going to cover your slave mark, so that you won't have to hide anymore."
"Free of charge." the tattoo artist hastened to add, rubbing his hands together as if he couldn't wait to get to work "Although, if you are really Zeff's former apprentice, my wife and I wouldn't say no to a home-cooked meal! What would you like, missy? Many girls ask for flowers, or an heart; the jolly roger of your crew could be a nice idea, even though that's... incriminating as well..."
Sanji saw you bit your lip. "You needn't worry; you are safe, otherwise I wouldn't have brought you here." he reassured you, suddenly unsure of his plan; the fact that Zeff trusted Den was enough to reassure him, but perhaps it would have been better if the two of you had discussed this before... "If you want... to think about it for a while, I'm sure we can..."
"No." you stopped him; and a moment later, he saw you smile "I'm going to do it. I want to do it. Den-san, could you draw me a bird?"
The artist promptly answered he could tattoo sparrows, eagles, cranes, parrots - whatever you wanted. He took a pencil and a sketchpad from the work-table, and you guided him in drawing a long-winded bird that, you told him and Sanji, was present in large numbers in the kingdom you grew up in.
"My mother loved birds, and she told me the stern was famous for the huge distances it covered during migration; they could fly from one side of the world to the other, tirelessly, unafraid of predators and inclement weather. We would see them sometimes, at our master's farm, and while we had been instructed to chase them away, I loved them and sometimes I stole bread to feed them. All birds are free, unlike me at the time, but they could travel far and wide, the sky was their only limit... I would have given anything to be one of them."
You smiled. "And now I am; I am free, like a stern, with my own flock. Covering a slave mark with the image of a bird is the best revenge I can ask for."
Den asked you to sit on the reclining chair and immediately got to work, perched on the stool next to you. Sanji hovered nearby, not wanting to disturb the artist, anxiously observing the tattoo taking shape; completely still, your shirt lifted so that it only covered your breast, you seemed completely at ease, smiling happy as if not feeling the pain of the large needle pricking your skin.
"You can admit this is all because you want to see me naked." you whispered when Den had to leave you for a moment to take a smaller needle; the gratitude and affection in your eyes were so intense Sanji felt overwhelmed for a moment. Neither of you spoke, but your thoughts, your emotions, had never been so clear to each other like in that moment; you had never spoken of love yet, it was too early and neither wanted to rush things, but there was no other name to describe the intimacy of that moment, the quiet but intense bond of two people completely focused on each other, so full of devotion and warmth the world had all but disappeared around them.
"Exactly, that's the only reason." he answered, doing his best not to smile "And what a lucky coincidence, I have always liked tattooed women..."
It took Den almost two hours to finish your tattoo; Sanji had seen it taking shape little by little, while you had avoided looking at your abdomen, preferring to see the complete result only.
"That's it, perfect." the artist said in the end, his voice full of satisfaction, as he stood from the stool and cracked his neck "Ready to see it, missy?"
"Of course I am!"
A full-figure mirror was placed against one of the walls of the room; you stood and walked to it, already anticipating the joy of seeing your tattoo and at the same time fearing you wouldn't like it. You held your breath... and then you smiled, observing the small but resilient bird taking flight on your abdomen, its long-winged black body only slightly longer than the mark it was covering, and of which there was no trace.
Sanji, by now more than capable to read your emotions, smiled as well. "Do you like it?"
"I love it! Oh, it is so beautiful!" you exclaimed, turning on one side and the other to observe your new tattoo from different angles; it was really lovely, but as well as from a purely aesthetic point of view, and the pleasure of having your favourite animal engraved on your skin, you loved what it represented: the freedom you had always been entitled, the memory of your mother, and the determination to never let anyone decide for you and your life "Oh, Den-san, thank you so much!"
The artist smiled, clearly pleased with the result of his work and not only that; you couldn't believe you had felt intimidated by him, only two hours ago. "I'm glad I could help. No one deserves to carry that filth on their skin, especially a nice girl like you. Hope it brings you luck, and say hi to Zeff for me when you hear from him!"
You thanked him again and again before you and your boyfriend left, leaving Den to his affairs and to open to the public. This time you didn't bother checking for Marines nearby, or to make sure your tattoo wasn't visible under your shirt; the ugly mark, memento of a past you wouldn't have to relive ever again, was gone, replaced by a symbol of freedom and resilience you were determined to honor every day of your life.
"Do the others know?" you asked in a whisper as you walked away from the tattoo parlour, hand in hand; your tattoo was now bandaged, and Den had thoroughly instructed you on how to care for it, including an ointment you needed to buy to clean it twice a week.
Sanji shook his head. "Well, Nami does, or at least she will know what that little bird is for once she sees it. The others don't know anything; I told Luffy, Zoro and Usopp we needed to make a detour here for a very important reason that concerned you and your safety; no one had anything against it. They'll probably be surprised to see it, but I don't think they'll insist to know the truth... unless you decide to tell them."
You smiled, heart full of affection and gratitude for your friends; you knew knowing about your past as a slave would change nothing in their opinion of you, and if ever you were in danger of being enslaved again, they would tirelessly defend you. Yes, you might decide to tell them the truth; one day. Now, for a while, you just wanted to enjoy this, not having to hide, to hate your body, to close your eyes every time you even just had to change your shirt.
You were free - finally, completely, irrevocably free, and while you had risked your life to escape, and again as you ran from your master and did all you could to stay hidden, of this you had to thank no one but the handsome young man next to you.
"I... I really don't know what to say." you murmured in the end, as you approached the town center "There are no words to describe how grateful I am; I'll never thank you enough..."
"Then don't." your boyfriend suggested with a smile; he stopped walking and took your face in his hands, his blue eyes sparkling as if he were the one who had just received the best, most thoughtful gift of his life "I only want you to be happy and serene, and unafraid. What about we celebrate with an ice-cream?"
"That's a splendid idea. My treat this time."
"If you really want to..."
You laughed, wondering if you had ever felt this happy; it was as if your heart were soaring, high and free, there were the stern flies. You kissed Sanji, and he kissed you, unheeding of the people who could see the two of you.
"Let's go." you said then; your boyfriend smiled, and he let your hand guide him along the busy street.

One Piece Live Action review
WARNING: SPOILERS DONT READ IF YOU DONT WANT SPOILERS!!!!!!
I went into watching this thinking it was going to tank. I honestly thought it was going to be a disaster like Dragon Ball evelution. I was worried about only 8 episodes with first season orgonally having 46. I was worried they were going to change a lot and take away a lot. Make it more dumb. I really had no idea what they were going to do.
I was wrong. The first episode had me shocked. Was there differences? Yes. But they werent bad. They made sense. I rated the first epide 4 of 5 stars. It wasnt perfect but it truly was a good opening episode.
The actrors were amazing. When I seen the postrs and trailors Inwas worried. Sanji missing his eyebroe, Usopp his long nose, and some of the CGI looked a little weird. That was one of the reasons had me worried. Yet the actors did such an amzing job!
Zoro is just fucking perfect. I love him. I love Love love love that they included Mr. 7 and Zoro's fight. That was shook and let me tell you I jumped and nearly squealed when I seen that. They don't show that fight in manga or anime. Its only mentioned.
Mackenyu Did a great job betraying Roronoa Zoro. 5 stars.
Though one of my dissapoitments when it comes to Zoro are three things: First his missing fight with Hatchi and how Luffy is introduced with Zoro. And His fight with mihawk. (Not that it was bad but that 3 people who witnese it I always thought was omportant were not there)
Not seeing Hatchi is a disapointment. However I can see why they may have cut him out. The live action is following the manga as close as it can while also being realistic. But we see Hatchi again in later arcs. Before timeskip and right after. It would be hard to justify soneone who worked for Arlong (who pretty much inslaved Nami) make him a good and likeable charector? I mean I dont hate Hatachi from the manga/Anime but I never understood why Nami would be okay with associating with him regardless if he wasnt one who did anything to her or not. So that could be why they left him out? Another reason could be time. They only had 8 episodes to work with. Could they fit a third fight sceen in the one episode? Hard to say. Or even his 6 arms could have been an issue. Not sure. But still I really like his fight with Zoro. Still the fight sceen with Zoro and Sanji working wonders together is amazing and makes up for it. It was still a good part and yeah its a sisspointment not seeing Hatachi but at the same time The fight and banter with Sanji makes up for it.
Now one dispoinment which is me more nit picking when it comes to Zoro is his introduction with Luffy. Luffy wanted Zoro on his crew by just hearing about him. He didnt see him or know him he was like "yeah? Hes a good fighter? Ima make him my crew. Then he heard what Zoro did for rhe little girl. I really really likes that from the manag. That being said! The way the live action did it was still really good too. Is it a slight bummer? Yeah but not enough for it to be bad. It still good and the point across of Zoro being a good guy stands.
As for his fight witb Mihawk. It was amazing ok? I loved it. Now what is a bit sad to see is no Johnny and Yadaku and Sanji didn't witness the fight. Again its more nit picking but hear me out! In the Manga and Anime Sanji watches the fight and hes angry. He is angry its not him going after his dream but also because its like Zoro is Waisting his dream. I always thought that was important. At least for Sanji's charector. HOWEVER because of the things they changed with Sanji and his story it probably makes sense. Ill get to that when I get to Sanji. Its also a bunner Johnny and Yadaku isnt in this but I get it. Time and money sometimes minor things need to be cut.
Overall though. Every thing with Zoro is jsut so good. Even the things I got a Tad bumbed at (more me nit picking) but even though I was the changes they made I liked.
Lets talk about Usopp. Usopp again I was a little bumbed with no long nose. I mean. Okay. It probably would have been a pain to either CGI it or wear a prostrdic. So I get it. That being said Jacob Romero did a great job! And the only Usopp to get the kiss haha. Now I was happy Usopp got the kiss. At the same time I am like "bah. No romance in OP lol" but damn the Usopp Kiya shipper in me was so happy! Honestly 5 stars for Usopp.
My disapointment with Usospp's arc was no Jango. Like this one I did not get? It was Jango that hipnotized the impoten Kuru to believe he was Kuru in the first place. So unless they are going to bring that into play later? Yeah I have to say thats one of the biggest disapointments. Again not enough for me to hate on or dislike the changes. I really enjoyed the arc. It was more darker and honestly sad to! Like they killed merry! He's supposed to survive! They also cut out Onion carrot and pepper but to be fair a gron man playing with 3 children? Weird lol. Actually I forgot about them until I realized that they were also missing. My more concern was Jango! Even so it was fun to watch. Different and more thrilling.
Nami my dear I enjoyed her. She isn't my favorate in any addaption but I still like the charecter. I thought Emily Rudd played her well. 4.5 stars. My only issue is I felt like she was a little stiff at times at first? But she really started to shine towards the end. Like she was amazing. If it wasnt for the first episode or two where I felt she was off I would give her 5 starts. Its again nit picking! Because she was amazing!
Lets talk about Luffy though. I thought Iñaki Godoy was amazing. Like he was amazing Luffy. 5 stars. I almost almost want to say 4.5 of 5 stars because there were times where I think Luffy would be smiling or doing something dumb he was more serious? But I didn't care so much because this isnt the Anime and its not the manga. Its live action and some things need ro be realistic. So I got it. And he the actor loved being Luffy and you can see he did his best at ir. Like he was made for this part!
Now I want to get into Sanji. I kept Sanji for last because he's not only my fave OP char he is my fave Anime/Manga char of all the anime/manga I read and love. Like he is #1 in my book. He is the Goat! So out of the first 5 straehats, if I was going to nit pick anyone it was going to be Taz Skylar's betryal of Sanji.
I was not dissapointed. He did a fantastic Job. I was impressed to know that he not only learned kick boxing and cooking he also did his own stunts. Fucking impressive for any actor. 5 stars. Dude. I loved it. We still got to see that anger and cussing he does but most of all we got to see his kidness.
Was there disapointments in his episodes? Yeah. It sucks that we didnt get to see his fight with Ging. That is one great fight. The whole Gin crying because he cant kill Sanji and taking the poison gas? Holy hell. I get it they didnt have time to do the whole don kerig saga. But daaamn that is the biggest disapointments.
Howeever! The changes they made was still good. Because if this serious continued and we learn of Sanji's past with Germma then I think I underdtand. Yes I like the Sanji disagreeing with Luffy to join banter and Sanji in general being more angry at the start. But his nonchalant more easy going side is.... refreshing and part of Sanji we dont see much until later. I like that they are focused on Sanji's kindness! Hes always introduced in the manga as 'A kind hearted chef who lives woman' in every issue of the manga.
The Live action is really focused on Sanji's kindness but also his silly side that he can be sometimes. Still top fighter next to Zoro. But more playful. In both Anime and Manga Sanji is seen eating and enjoying rhe party. But here in the live action he is the one cooking and serving. Like they are really highlighting the kindess in Sanji here. So yeah I was dissapointed that there was no Gin fight but. Again it was changed in a delightful way! Like I like the change. It was like the writers went to Oda. "Hey. We want to highlight Sanji's kindess how can we change this without xhanging his actual past story and what not?" And oda was like "well...do this" or something. Because it worked. They made Sanji's intro still sad as fuck wirh him and Zeff on the rock. The two still share the same relationship and they highlight Sanji's kindness. Also I kinda like the tone down womanizing.
Also the Zoro and Sanji bantering? My ZoSan shipping heart is like Yuuuusss!
So yeah I had some dissapointments. I was hoping for Sanji to witness the mihawk fight. Even if it was out the window ya know? I do feel like it was important. Alas. But all that asside I loved it.
One more char I want to talk about it Buggy. This mofo is brillant betryal. Still Buggy but darker. More intresting!
So over all I give it a 4 of 5 stars. Not perfect but still fucking fantastic.

Hey Mange!! May I get a Zoro x crewmate where his friend is a kind person who wields a sword and never uses them for wrong, until he loses control of his feelings and lashes out, almost hurting somebody in the crew
After such a thing happened reader’s been too scared to wield a weapon again, they cant spar or defend themselves because they don’t have any trust in themselves that it wont happen again and they dont wanna hurt anyone
Just Zoro comforting them, telling them to have some trust and such

You did it, you finally blew it all over again. Freezing up in a fight, nearly getting yourself killed. And that is what would have happened had Zoro not jumped in front of you, taking down your opponent with ease. He wasted no time to turn on his heel, facing you. You could make out many different emotions in his expression. A little confusion, a bit of anger, and even some disappointment.
He opened his mouth to say something. To ask you what the hell was wrong with you. To ask why you didn't move, why you didn't pick up your sword and defend yourself as a swordsman should!
But he stopped himself as he saw your face. That frightened look in your eyes, tears of fear welling in the corners, as if you'd seen a ghost.
You hadn't stopped thinking about the incident since it happened. To be a swordsman is to always remain in control of yourself and the blade, to never lash out and lose sight, or else things could go very wrong. And that day, things did very wrong.
You lost control of the blade, nearly gouging out one of your captain's eyes. Your own saving grace was Luffy himself, being able to react fast enough.
You'd never forgive yourself, retiring your blade to the corner of the training room. You haven't touched it since and you never planned on picking it up again. Luffy was alive and well, smiling and hopping from wall to wall like he always did. But he almost lost an eye because of you, that was nothing something you could just let fade away.
Rather than training as you used to, you'd spend your afternoons in the back of the Sunny, leaning against the railings as you looked out at the sights that the Grand Line had to offer. Just anything to take your mind off of the incident even if it was for a brief moment.
"Are you going to talk about what happened or are you just going to continue to sulk by yourself?" The green-haired swordsmen's voice sounded from behind you.
You didn't even answer. Your head fell in shame, in disappointment. You wondered if he was still disappointed in you as well, too afraid to look him in the eye as you recalled his expression after he saved your ass.
Zoro took his place right next to you, letting his back rest against the railing. He folded his arms across his broad chest, letting his head fall slightly, closing his eye.
There was a silence between the two of you. The only sound that could be heard were the high winds from above and the sounds of the waves crashing against the ship from below. It felt like you were waiting forever for him to say something, anything was better than this cruel silence. You had no idea what he was thinking, if his opinion of you had changed, if he had even considered you a friend anymore.
Out of the corner of your eye, you see him move, picking his head up and opening his eye, looking up at the white clouds. "Talk to me, ( y/n )," He began, finally looking at you, "Whatever it is you're feeling, what you're going through right now...just tell me."
Slowly you picked your head up, facing your fear of seeing the disappointment in his gaze. But there was no disappointment, there was no anger. There was worry, there was concern, there was care. Expressions of which you haven't seen much from him. He was always so calm and collected, a man to admire. But the Zoro before you, you had yet to see.
"I feel...lost," You started, looking down at your hands, "I feel like...I don't know who I am anymore. I...I almost hurt...Luffy. I can never forgive myself for that."
"Accidents happen. They happen to all of us. You are not a bad person for making a mistake. You are human," He noted.
You shook your head, "I lashed out. I lost control. And it almost took someone else's life! And then when I stop using my sword, I freeze up and I'm utterly helpless! I'm no better than a fish out of the water! I'm too much of a risk to be a part of this crew. You all have done nothing but care about me...and this is thanks I give you all."
Hot tears ran down your face. You were angry at yourself for all of this. "Everything would just be better if I left―"
"Don't finish that sentence." His voice was firm, "Never say that about yourself. We would not be the same without you. I wouldn't be the same without you. Mistakes happen. It is up to you whether or not you allow it to define who you are. And if you asked me, I know that you are better than that. You're a great swordsman and an even greater person. Never, ever forget that."
His words were warm and comforting. The look in his eye confirmed that he was genuine.
"Thank you for listening to me. I can't even begin to tell you how much it means to me," You thanked him with a small sniffle, wiping away the streams of tears from your face with the back of your hand.
He shrugged his shoulders, "Don't mention it. And ( y/n ), don't rush yourself to pick back up where you left off. Don't feel pressured to pick your sword back up just yet."
"How do you know if I'm going to pick it back up at all?"
He thought for a moment, "Call it a hunch. All you need to do is find yourself and your trust in yourself. Take it easy until then and don't be so hard on yourself, yeah?"
You nodded.
Zoro placed his hand on top of your head, a small smile forming, "I believe in you."

Waking up, arms opened and stretched, it was the first time in that past week or so that I woke up feeling brand new.
Considering all the bounties we had on our heads, and the number of enemies we had to face, I was bedridden after not only taking a gunshot wound but using the last bit of strength I had to save one of my crewmates and perform CPR.
Despite thinking about that nasty battle, I woke up with a smile on my face, able to feel the heat from outside, taking everyone by surprise as I blasted into the kitchen in just a bikini, smiling at everyone:
"Good morning!"
"Well good morning, mon amour!" There went Sanji already, heart eyes and all, usually, it'd get on my nerves, but today, it made me feel even better.
"Y/N! You're finally up and moving around!" Usopp smiled with Luffy, nodding to him as I sat at the table, smiling back:
"I feel like I can take on the world! I just feel so good and full of energy for some reason."
"Oh, my dear! That's wonderful! Here's your breakfast so that you can keep that energy going all day," Sanji was being extra sweet today, bringing my plate first and I thanked him with a side hug:
"I know you're good cooking will do just that!"
"HEY! WE'VE BEEN WAITING SANJI! WE WERE HERE FIRST!" Luffy never played around when it came to his food, and when Nami came in next, that only made him argue with Sanji more, but I just laughed at it and ate.
Breakfast was truly delicious. We all ended up smiling and enjoying the morning, except for Zoro who took a nap right after. We were still on the sea and when I headed up to the deck, all I could think about was jumping into that ocean and swimming.
Needing to do something to let this energy out, I saw Usopp and Luffy heading up to the deck too, running over and tagging Usopp:
"TAG! YOU'RE IT!"
"OH, WE'RE PLAYING TAG?!" Luffy started to run along, Usopp chasing us and swearing he'd get us and Luffy used me as a shield, about dying of laughter as I was the one chasing them, but an idea popped into my mind when I saw Zoro laid back with his eyes closed.
"TAG! GOTCHA, ZORO!"
"I'm not playing tag with you guys. Buzz off," He groaned with his eyes closed. He was such a party pooper and I was gonna change that, stealing his swords before I ran for my life:
"Okay then, but you won't get your swords back!"
"What the-?" Looking at his side, they were gone and I was running to the other side of the ship, "YOU GET BACK HERE, RIGHT NOW, Y/N!"
"GOTTA CATCH ME FIRST!" I cackled, getting Luffy and Usopp to join in so that we all had a sword.
The only problem was Zoro was fast, almost catching me, but I had different plans:
"LUFFY! CATCH!"
Launching the sword, I jumped off the ship, laughing as I landed in the calm ocean, Zoro still yelling at me:
"I'M STILL GOING TO GET YOU, Y/N!"
"Hope you're not afraid of the water then!" I giggled, relaxing back and swimming, still able to hear Zoro yelling at Luffy and Usopp since they still had Zoro's swords.
I needed a day like this. I swam alongside the ship for some time, tanned with Nami for a bit, and Sanji made us dinner. Even after the long, fun day we had, that bundle of energy kept me up.
After the sun went down and brought up all the stars, everyone went to their rooms and I stayed up on deck, laid back and picking out constellations that I could find. There were so many and I was in my own little world, till I heard:
"It's getting late, you know."
"Here to get your revenge?" I giggled at Zoro who sat next to me:
"I don't feel like it," He sighed as he sat back, looking up at the sky too, "Can't sleep?"
"Naw, I can't, but it's okay," I hummed, sitting up and shaking my arms, "I've just been so pumped up today. I thought I'd be stuck in bed feeling like a zombie for a while, so I guess I'm just super happy."
"Yeah, and super annoying," He whispered under his breath as a joke, laughing as I flexed my arm like I was going to punch him:
"Ooo Zoro, why I otta!"
"Like you'd stand a chance against me," He smirked cockily, shifting my hips so I could get in his face and tease:
"I'm no pushover. I'd like to test my luck."
Suddenly, he was so quiet, a cloud passing allowing the moonlight to show that his eyes were fixed on my chest, where my gunshot wound now left a scar.
-------
"Zoro! You better not die on me! I'm right here!"
During that last battle, even after being shot, I dove into the ocean to save Zoro who was down too, doing CPR, mouth to mouth, the whole nine yards to bring him back before I collapsed from my injuries that ended up being worse than anyones.
-------
"Zoro?" I could tell that he was lost in that memory and when he looked up at me, snapping out of it, he turned his head. Since he wouldn't talk, I teased him a bit more, "I know I'm still in my bikini and it's easy to get distracted, but I'm talking to you."
"Hey! I was not staring at your chest!" He snapped quickly, growing silent again as I took his hands and said softly:
"I know, and I know that you don't like to talk about your feelings much, but you can talk to me, Zoro."
"I just-," He sighed, crossing his arms and voice even lower, "Feel guilty, I guess."
All I could do was shake my head and giggle; it sparked a nerve in him at first, his eyes darting at me with a bit of anger till I said:
"I'd do it a million times over if I had to. Don't feel guilty. I'm sure, no matter how much I might annoy you, that you'd bail me out of any situation and save my ass. There's nothing to feel guilty about."
"Be grateful. Between you and the rest of the crew, I don't know who gets on my nerves most," Of course, he was trying to play it off again; that's when a thought popped into my head.
---------
Finally, he started coughing up some water, breathing again, meanwhile, I was barely hanging on. Woozy from blood loss, I was still straddling him, scarcely able to speak:
"Zoro? Talk to me. C-Can you breathe right?"
"Yeah," He coughed again, opening his eyes to find me falling over, "Y/N!"
--------
"I know what you're thinking about," I smirked at him, his silence showing that I read his mind.
He was thinking of the sight of me nearly dying and the last thing I did was save him.
"And I am going to make sure that you have better memories of us instead of that one," My heart was racing out of my chest, growing nervous, but not losing courage as I crawled over him carefully to sit on his lap.
"Y/N-"
With one big leap of faith, I kissed him using every ounce of passion in my heart. I just wanted him to know that he was special to me and I wanted to take away the pain he was hiding.
Sucking in a deep breath, his arms wrapped me into a tight embrace, making me moan at the way he nibbled on my lower lip. My hips couldn't help but grind down against his growing bulge, tongue working its way in to fight with mine.
"Think we should take this to one of our rooms?" He huffed out while catching a breath, my eyes circling to see that we were all alone, only able to hear some crash of the waves around us:
"Naw, I'm not patient enough," I snickered mischievously before going right back to kissing him:
"If someone walks up here and catches us-"
"Zoro," I sighed, hand palming his hard-on and silencing him, whispering in his ear as my hand slid up his abs, before slipping into his pants to feel his cock for myself, "How about you just sit back and relax, huh? Everyone's asleep. No one's gonna catch us."
Biting his earlobe softly, my hand started to pump around his cock, his eyes closing as he hummed and enjoyed my hand working him, opening one eye when he felt my body shifting, laying between his legs and fixing his pants some.
"What? Don't want these lips wrapped around you like a lollipop?"
"Like a lollipop, huh?" He smirked, one hand taking some of my hair, the other holding himself, slapping the tip of his cock against my tongue as I stuck it out, "I knew you weren't as innocent as you make yourself out to be."
"Far from innocent," I smiled while swirling my tongue around his tip, taking it into my mouth, his hand holding my head tighter and slouching back as my head started to bob, hand working his extra length, cheeks hollow and sucking him hard.
"Fuck," His chest was heaving above me, letting out slight groans, pushing my head down a little further every time I picked it up, going faster and I reached the point where I didn't care about gagging, downing his cock to the back of my throat, flexing around him with a sting in my eyes, "Get up here."
Picking my head up, I was wiping at the pre and saliva along my chin, fixing myself on top of him as he positioned himself, noticing quickly:
"Where did your bottoms go?"
"I may have had a little fun for myself while going down on you," I looked away and mumbled like I was clueless, but went back to smirking as he cocked his eyebrow:
"And you didn't let me watch?"
"Well, I didn't know how far you wanted to take things," I kept my innocent tone, keeping his eyes locked on my breasts as I let my top fall next, cooing while pressing them right up under his chin, "But I'll gladly make it up to you."
"Oh, you will," Pushing my hips down, I seized up at the stretch between my thighs from how thick he was, nearly whining as I took more of him, "Think you were having a little too much fun by yourself. You're fucking tight."
"But it feels good, right?" Rolling my tongue into a kiss, I swiveled my hips, adjusting bit by bit so that I could go faster.
"Yeahhh," He groaned out, having to watch how I was taking him, riding like a crusade, making up for earlier:
"And oh yeah, I forgot to let you watch."
Leaning back some, I placed two fingers on my clit, rubbing in a circle and it only took a little bit of speed and pressure to make my moans louder, jolting up at the soft bite I felt on my nipple:
"Zoro!"
"You just keep doing that, and don't wake anyone up," He commanded, sucking and biting on my nipples, one hand full of my ass, "Just keep riding me."
"I can't hang on much longer," I whined, hand falling away and gripping my thigh hard while I kept trying to go at the same speed.
"Guess I'll handle the rest of the work," Biting his lip to hide his panting, he fell back a little more so he could throw his hips up, leaving his thumb to torture my clit, nearly growling at how my walls began to clamp around his cock, "Better cum for me."
"I am, Zoro!" Voice so lewd and breaking up as I was running out of air, my chest started to fall to his, but I made sure to throw myself back a little to meet his hips, getting a big burst of energy when I felt the coil in my stomach leaking, shooting up straight and bouncing so his tip stayed at that good spot, rocking so hard, thighs wet and able to hear nothing but the gushing around his cock.
"Damn, that's it," I gasped, holding myself up while still rolling my hips, kissing and moaning against his lips, "You're so good. Feel so good inside me."
I was so high and couldn't get enough, so my whine was the loudest one yet when he grumbled out:
"Ugh! Y/N-"
My whole body felt so hollow, walls still clenching with nothing there, the sight of how hard his cock was throbbing when he picked me up was something I'd never forget, unloading onto his stomach while he fell flat on his back.
"Sorry," I breathed, "It just felt so good and I got a little carried away,"
"Why the hell are you apologizing? For riding the hell out of m-"
Words getting caught in his throat with a hiss, his body was sensitive too, tensing up at my tongue lapping his seed and cleaning him up.
"It was a lot," I looked up into his eyes, finishing with a kiss across his scar, "I can tell."
"And if it was?" He chuckled, shaking his head, but smiling softly, "I still got the better of you."
"I won't lie about that one," I chuckled along, resting against his chest and teasing with a whisper, "You and I are gonna have a whole lot of fun now that I know that I get you all fired up."

AUTHOR'S NOTE
HELLOOOOO I AM ALIVE. I haven't posted a chapter in forever, ikik. Maybe you guys don't even remember about this lmao. Still, I got in uni and did my mass media history final (kinda hope I [aced] it), so I'll write as much as I can before I have to start breaking my back over my cognitive psychology one.
I hope you enjoy this, sorry for the wait🫶🏼

DRESSROSA
When they set foot in the square, the group was left speechless. Mesmerized, even. The colours, the arches, the little tables outside the bars and restaurants, the stores, the smiling and laughing people. It all looked straight out of a fairytale.
Franky tilted his huge head. "This doesn't look like a place that needs saving," he mumbled. Zoro shrugged at his side. He wasn't exactly surprised to be looking at a perfect façade.
Meanwhile, Lucy was looking at the beautiful dancers in long dresses — like Sanji —, wondering whether holding a rose in their mouth could have been somewhat stingy, and only looked away when something stepped over her foot, making her hiss.
"Look where the fuck you're —." She stopped in her tracks, her mouth falling open. The wooden soldier stumbled on his own feet and turned to look at her in mechanic movements. But that wasn't the weirdest part. The weirdest part was the muffled 'sorry' that came out of its mouth.
Lucy clutched Luffy's arm, incapable of reacting. "Fuck my life," she declared, in the stiffest way possible, "that toy has an accent."
Luffy laughed excitedly, basically jumping on the spot and Franky put a hand on his shoulder to keep him down. "Look!" he exclaimed, pointing at other little toys walking around and talking, "There's more!"
"Well," said Zoro, more horrified than he liked to admit, "that is so fucking normal, right?"
Kin'emon did nothing but shake his head. "Let's move along, Zoro-dono" he muttered, "This place is evil."
Sanji kept staring at the dancers. "I disagree."
Franky looked around before clutching on the twins's shoulders. "Listen, you two. Doflamingo said he has something Luffy wants — he doesn't know about you, Lucy, so you'll have to be..."
"Socially inappropriate?" she snickered.
He raised his eyebrows in an unimpressed look, even as he was trying to hold back a laugh. "The opposite, today," he kept going, "Discreet. Just discreet. He resigned but if the Marines get involved, you'll be in danger as well." Then he shook Luffy who appeared not to be listening, as always. "As for you, don't do anything stupid. Shock factor, remember? We can't be discovered until it's time."
The twins stared at him, silent.
The vein on Franky's forehead popped out. "Understood?" he stressed.
"Yeah, yeah," they said in unison.
He gritted his teeth. "Super. Super fucking babysitting."
Lucy turned around. Something wasn't right. "Where's Zoro?" she asked, "And Sanji? And Kin'emon?"
Franky frankly wanted to disappear right until he spotted Kin'emon running. "There" he exclaimed, swarmed in relief, "Let's follow him — discreetly."
"Sorry to break your bubble, Franky, but you're anything but discreet," giggled Luffy. Lucy covered her mouth to keep herself from snorting as she affectionately took the cyborg's arm. Secretly and very deep down, Franky was happy to be the goddamned babysitter.
"Toys here walk around like people" he scoffed, "No one's looking at me." Given the amount of time he spent on his new gear, it did bother him a significant bit.
They found one of the three missing pieces after five minutes. Kin'emon was waiting for them at the bottom of a dark stair, tapping his foot nervously. Lucy thought that being a samurai was probably quite the definition of a stressful job — especially with the whole thing of "samurais are never hungry" he was going on about on Punk Hazard. The whole time she was on the Sunny, she kept feeding him and Momonosuke the sweets and snacks Sanji made for her.
"Oi, Kin'emon," Luffy called, "Where are the others?"
"Zoro-dono got away and Sanji-dono followed him so he wouldn't get lost by himself and I followed them both so that we would know where they were and I —." Kin'emon took a deep breath, completely out of oxygen. "As I was saying, I wanted to warn you but the cook is really fast and I didn't want to lose his sight."
"Breathe, my guy" chuckled Lucy with a shake of her head, "So, where are Zoro and the pretty one?"
Both Luffy and Franky shot her an incredulous look. They found themselves wondering whether Lucy knew how to strike the swordsman nerves or if she just liked to be a little mean.
"In the pub, back there. Zoro-dono insisted we go in when we found him. Sanji-dono is inside with him."
Franky sighed. "It's not the time for a drink." But they all went in anyway. If Sanji had followed Zoro without at least trying to kick his head away, then there was probably a decent reason behind all of that.
As soon as they walked in, the three spotted Zoro and Sanji sat at a table, sunglasses and fake beard fixed almost religiously on their face. Weirdly enough, they weren't fighting. They sat at the table with them and Franky decided they didn't need scolding for the moment. Lucy took a seat between the swordsman and Luffy, pretending not to notice when Zoro scanned her whole body behind the sunglasses.
"So, why are we here?" Luffy asked.
"The shitty mosshead felt something, he said" Sanji explained, a critical tone in his voice, "About the blind guy."
"I didn't know you liked older men, Zoro," Lucy teased, staring straight ahead.
"Shut up, brat" he seethed, "I know what I felt — that guy has... something."
"No, he's right," said Luffy, almost casually, "I just don't understand why the sight doesn't match."
The blind man, that was now being fooled by some pirates at the roulette wheel, had sent a rush down Zoro's spine when he first saw him. Yet, he didn't seem capable of looking after himself, let alone powerful. He just couldn't understand why he was pretending to be weak.
Meanwhile, Luffy was looking over at the scene, trying to keep his cool. And the best way to do that was talking to his sister. He grabbed her hand, popping her knuckles just like he used to do when they were kids.
"Did you ever see Dadan again? After you left, I mean."
Lucy subconsciously smiled at the thought. "Yeah, I did — Garp brought me to visit her a little after you left" she murmured, "Then I visited her on my own after... you know, after everything happened."
Luffy's grip tightened. "Is she okay?" he mumbled. He missed Dadan. She wasn't always nice and patient but, to be fair, he and his siblings were always difficult kids. And, no matter what, she always took care of them. Dadan was their mother.
Lucy's cleared her throat. She didn't want to think about the way they crumbled in each other's arms, mourning Ace and a life that was long lost. She forced out a smile and hoped that the tricks of time would've prevented Luffy from noticing. "It's Dadan" she chuckled, "She's tough, you know that."
Luffy shot her a neutral look. The tricks of time couldn't possibly work with him. Not when it came to his twin sister. He got up from his chair and ruffled her hair, then stared straight ahead, at the blind man. "I'm going to do something about it."
So, Zoro watched Luffy intervene, incapable as he was of minding his own business as always, and the blind man proved himself to be way stronger than everyone thought him to be by unleashing a crushing force that sent the other pirates plummeting into a hole.
Yet, Zoro didn't quite care. While Luffy insisted to know the man's name, Zoro could only look at the curious expression on Lucy's face, as her previous words rang through his head."You're gonna get attached," she had told him. And he feared that, oh so much. He couldn't help but listening to her and Luffy's conversation about that woman, Dadan. He knew about her already but he listened anyway. He was already painfully aware of his own restlessness in knowing her.
And then he snapped back to reality once he turned to look for his sword. "What. The. Fuck."
Lucy furrowed her eyebrows. "Your sword is running away."
"It's the fairies," a customer casually said, "you better catch that sword before you never see it again."
And Zoro began to run.
"Oi, mosshead!" Sanji shouted, "I told you, you can't run around by yourself."
"Why not?" asked Lucy, an amused tone in her voice.
Franky groaned, ready to follow. "He'll get lost."
Lucy's eyes lit up maliciously. "That won't be an issue" she beamed, "I'm going with him."
Luffy tilted his head. He wasn't sure whether they were finally getting along or his sister was out for revenge. The difference was always ambiguous on her part. "Alright" he said, "Be careful."
"Yes, Mister Captain. Whatever you say is law. Will do. Yessir." Luffy rolled his eyes, yet not being able of holding back a chuckle and Lucy gave him a thumbs up. Then, she planted a big kiss on his cheek, right before slapping the back of his head and running away between snickers. "Stupid," he yelled after her, almost wholeheartedly.
Lucy caught up with Zoro quicker than she had imagined. He was on the roof, being thrown around — apparently, by nothing. "Well, isn't this interesting?"
"Fucking quit it!" he was screaming, "What the — give Shisui back or I swear." Before he could finish, he was thrown off the roof, falling helplessly to the ground. At least, that was what was going to happen if Lucy hadn't used her power. A haze had formed under Zoro's suspended body, almost like a turbine. His eye widened, looking for her only to spot her on the same roof he fell from, Shisui in one hand and the little creature in the other. She looked immaterial. Mystical. Half tempested wind, half woman.
"Your powers..." he murmured.
"Yeah," she cut short, a sly smile on her lips, "The wind-wind fruit — everything is really interesting. Are you alright?"
Zoro looked away. "Tsk. I'm fine. Put me down."
She rolled her eyes, quite literally evaporating whatever was holding him up. "Your manners are terrible."
Zoro landed on his feet and gave her a critical look with his sane eye. "Give me a break, woman."
She tilted her head, quickly disappearing into a turbine and reappearing in front of Zoro, her power still keeping the little fairy still and silent. It was almost like she was surrounded by a wind storm. "You could at least thank me, you know that?"
For some reason, in her voice, Zoro recognized a threat. "Thank you" he said, as neutrally as possible, "Happy?"
She shrugged. "No. Now let's question this little urchin."

"He kept tabs on us the whole time" she seethed, "It was all a fucking trick."
Zoro clenched his jaw, peeking at the vast group of Tontattas that surrounded them. He was thankful they were too busy talking to Franky and Usopp about their plan to take down the factory. He needed to calm down and take matters in his own hands. "You heard what Franky said — Luffy is fighting in the pit."
Lucy's eyes grew dark. "Yes. For our brother's fruit. It's kind of ironic that he's fighting for it under my name."
Her tone was anything but ironic. Murderous, perhaps. Ironic was far from it. "I say we go and help him from outside" said Zoro, calmly enough, "If they're keeping tabs on him, then they know about his identity, no matter what the public of the pit calls him."
Lucy nodded slowly and stared straight into his eye. This time, Zoro could sense panic. "They can't hurt him."
"Luffy's strong" he muttered after a while, "He'd be offended, the way you worry about him."
She took a deep breath and did something unexpected, something so insignificant Zoro felt ridiculous noticing. Her knee touched his. It did not brush against it, no. It touched it and stayed there. She was looking for contact, again. It almost bothered him. Almost. Yet, it was a chance. The perfect opening for a deadly strike. The perfect chance to bathe a blade in blood. Just like in battle.
"The last time I was told to trust a brother's strength," she murmured, "I cried on his dead body."
Zoro tilted his head. He realised: she was right after all. In her mind, Luffy was in deadly danger. She wasn't so far from the truth. Before he could stop himself, Zoro stroke her cheek. Lucy froze on the spot, her body stiffening for a moment, only to relax slowly as she gazed at his face. "You're a challenging person," she said.
The swordsman lightly scoffed. His hand made way on the back of her neck, only to sway back on her cheek and finally retreat, back down at his own side. "This is the second time you tell me."
Lucy's lips formed a strange smile. "It's true — you care and then you don't. You are rude and unpleasant and then you aren't. You are a lot of things at the same time."
Zoro blinked. He felt... seen. And it was almost a bad thing. Almost. "You speak as if you're easy to be around."
"Are you calling me difficult?" she casually asked.
Yet, Zoro knew she wasn't casual about it. "Yes" he said, "But it's not really negative, if you go beneath the surface."
This time, it was Lucy who initiated contact. She took his hand in hers, her fingertips brushing on the back of it, tracing the scars and the lines of his palm. Zoro kept himself from clenching his fist closed. The pleasure of her touch made him want to pull his hand back. Almost unbearable like holding his palm above a flame. Almost.
"And what's beneath the surface?"
"I still don't know. I guess you aren't the only one who's gon' get to know me."
Her eyes lit up again. Zoro couldn't say in what way. "It appears I'm closer to the aim of my projects."
"Don't think me easy, doll" he scoffed, his hand grabbing hers in a grip, "You're not even close."
She narrowed her eyes. Again, Zoro couldn't say. "Well," she spelled slowly, "we'll see about that." Then, she got up harshly. "Let's go, I'm sick and tired of waiting."
✧・゚: *✧・゚:* *:・゚✧*:・゚✧✧・゚: *✧・゚:* *:・゚✧*:・゚✧✧・゚: *✧・゚:* *:・゚
Zoro wasn't used to be deconcentrated during battle. It was not a feeling he knew. But, as he was fighting, he kept thinking, "Just once. I'll look just once". And he allowed himself to look — to look at her. He found excuses for himself, as he watched her disappear in turbines of wind and reappearing at her enemies' backs, slaying them with one swift of her swords. He told himself that looking wasn't a big deal, since the enemies weren't that strong. So, he allowed himself another glance, as she pushed back with the skill of her swords alone. He thought her style was fascinating. Alluring. Unethical. Deprived of honour yet fierce. He found himself staring at the way she would cut them behind the knee and watch them fall, helpless, right before finishing them off.
When the battle was over, and they were only left waiting, hidden in dark alley, for Luffy to find a way out after winning the fruit, Zoro approached her. Lucy was cleaning the swords on the ripped shirt of one of her victims, after taking care of her own face with the hem of it.
"A bit unfair to finish someone like that" he said in the most neutral way possible, "Is that the Red's teaching?"
Lucy tilted her head, putting her swords back on her hips. "Nobody smart plays fair" she calmly retorted, "And that's not Shanks's teaching — it's mine."
Zoro didn't have the chance to answer. A noise distracted his thoughts, distinctive enough to be terrible. In a matter of seconds, the streets were swamped by Marines, prepared to arrest whatever criminal had participated in the fighting pit. Instinctively, he grabbed Lucy and pulled her close to his chest, hiding further in the darkness. "Fuck," he whispered.
Lucy initially stiffened, pressing herself against hist chest, as her vigil eyes stared at the little part of the crowd she could see. "Yeah" she murmured, "Fuck."
"What do we do?" seethed Kin'emon. Zoro and Lucy turned to look at him. Pressed against each other, they had almost forgotten he was there. "I could go and try to grab Luffy-dono's attention."
"No" Lucy quickly said, "A samurai doesn't go unnoticed."
Zoro gritted his teeth. "I'll go."
Lucy grabbed his wrist. "Are you fucking serious? You're world-known and that fake beard was ridiculous — now you don't even have it anymore."
He remained silent for a moment, staring in her eyes. Big and dark and stubborn. "So, you propose I let you go," he concluded.
She lifted her chin. "It's the only way. They don't know how much I've changed, the last they've seen of me is a picture from two years ago and my face was covered in blood." Then, she unsheathed her swords to place them in Zoro's hands and he lost his mind.
"You are not going unarmed" he seethed, pushing her back against the wall, "I can't defend you, once you go past that corner."
"I don't need defending" she spat, "I'm not asking you, I'm telling you."
"I am warning you, brat —."
"You're warning me? Then, fuck me. Tie me down and have it your way, I dare you prove you're capable of it!"
They stared each other down, bound to declare war and ready to swell with pride after the other abandons the battlefield first. But none of them did.
"I'm the only one who can do this" she uttered, "They might have not put seastone in the walls."
Zoro tilted his head. "What if they did?"
Lucy's lips formed that same smile it was so hard to decipher. "Then, I guess I've ran out of luck." And, with that, she dissolved into wind between his arms.
Lucy hadn't run out of luck. She flew against the wall, ready to become material again and fall to her death, or worse, to a pack of Marines. Yet, she found herself in the Colosseum, sighing of relief. Luckily enough, she spotted the weird guy with green hair they had seen before.
"You!" she called, "Bert. Bort. Uh — fuck. Barto.... Bartholomew?"
She sucked with names. Something her and Luffy had in common.
The guy pointed at himself, almost looking flustered, and she nodded. He had actually yelled at her before she told him she was part of Luffy's crew. She couldn't exactly scream out she was his damned twin sister. But this Bartholomew seemed to be somewhat of a fan and that was good for her purposes.
"Miss Lucy?" he asked. He looked on the verge of happy tears. Lucy kept herself from groaning.
"Yep, right. Any idea where Luffy is?"
And, blabbering a little too many words — majority of which sprinkled with nonsense — he brought her to him. The only intelligible thing she had caught was that he would win the Flare-Flare Fruit and give it to Luffy. Lucy showed him a grateful smile. Even if Bartholomew hadn't kept his promise, she would've ripped the fruit from his stomach.
She finally got to the room where Luffy was and sighed. He was fighting with some blonde guy with a weird-looking hat — typical. "Luffy" she called him, "We need to go."
He quickly turned to look at her and gestured with his hands. If the meaning was the same to when they were children, it was definitely something along the lines of "wait until I fix this piece of shit".
"Oh, fucking hurry!" she yelled, "I swear, five minutes — anything more and I'll personally start kicking you." Lucy groaned and the blonde guy smiled excitedly at her. Just to be safe, she gave him the finger.
"Listen," Luffy kept going, already cracking his knuckles, "The Flare-Flare fruit is a keepsake from Ace. If you want it, you're my enemy. Plus, don't call me Luffy — can't you see this fucking beard? I'm Lucy. Lu. See."
The actual Lucy, right behind him, rolled her eyes and the stranger chuckled. "You think I can't tell my brother's face just because he's in disguise?" he murmured.
The twins tilted their heads. "Brother?" they repeated in unison.
Luffy wrinkled his nose. "The only people who can call me brother are this one right here, Ace and the guy who died much earlier."
And they fell silent. They told themselves their own eyes lied to them. They told themselves they were hallucinating, because it just couldn't be. The blonde curls and those big, warm eyes, they were just a coincidence. His smile, surrounded by welcoming dimples, was witchery. That realisation, just a mere illusion. Lucy clutched her twin's arm. Luffy felt like he was being punched in the stomach. "The guy who... who died..."
Their eyes filled with tears, and they stumbled back, almost ending up on the floor, babbling incoherently. "I don't believe you," croaked Lucy between sobs.
Sabo smiled softly at his two younger siblings, taking a step closer. "We stole a bottle of sake from Dadan and made a toast," he began but he couldn't finish as Luffy shot his elongated arms forward to surround him, dragging Lucy right in the middle of their embrace.
Lucy briefly broke the hug to slap him, hugging him again immediately after. "Where—," she sobbed, "Where the fuck have you been?" Sabo was warm. Warm and alive and grown and tall and breathing.
"I thought you were dead—," cried Luffy, who had basically climbed Sabo all the way to his neck. He couldn't help but think about the times they would bother him during the night as children, maybe because they were actually too restless to sleep or because he was patient enough to pay them attention at a late hour. When they thought he died, that anchor of safety and warmth had become Ace, who before that time had been tougher and sterner. But Ace was gone, and Sabo was back. The world really was cruel in its own way.
Sabo exhaled a laugh of relief, not even caring about Luffy's snot and tears falling on his face or about Lucy's purposefully-weak-slaps on his tear-stained shirt. He held them tight, finally ending up on the floor, all crouched together in an endless hug. "Thank you," he whispered, "thank you for being still here." And he fell silent, at peace. In his mind, he spoke to Ace.
You don't have to worry anymore, he thought through tears, I got them, Ace. I got them.

HELLO, THE CHAPTER IS OVER! It's 02:18 am here in Italy and I've just cried about Sabo (again). I'm sorry again for the wait, I just really had a lot on my plate :(
Anyways, I really hope you liked this chapter lmao :'). There'll be more on the way with a particular focus on the events of Marineford in Lucy's POV and, ofc, more romance between her and Zoro. I wanted this chapter to be more about Lucy as a character with layers and how she relates to Zoro in a non-romantic context. I hope you enjoyed it! Lemme know what you think! Ily

Walking down the steps you soon spot Percy on the mast bench where you told him to wait, your surprised Luffy hasn't dragged him away now that he's in a change of clothes and clean skin, his hair is still a mess, the tie holding his bun is gone and yet the hair stays in the exact same passion. It makes you sad realizing how bad it is and how long and maybe even painful it will be to get all the mats out, you know it won't be as simple as shaving his head, plus the young man has been through enough, he deserves to at least keep some of his hair. "Hay, you ok?" You ask getting his attention, Percy jumps at the sound of your voice but soon relaxes when seeing you sit next to him "Y-yea… Miss Robin wants to do my hair soon and i was hoping you could come with" Raising an eyebrow you give him a confused look wondering why he would need you "Robin's an expert you don't need me, you'll be fine" You try and reassure only for him to rub his arm and lean closer to you making you lean away from him a bit "To be honest… she kinda scares me" The young man whispers while looking around to make sure no one else can hear him, slapping your hand over your mouth trying your best not to laugh but some of your giggles get past your hand making the young man sigh feeling like he shouldn't have said anything. Managing to calm down you place a hand on his shoulder "No, no i'm sorry, i shouldn't laugh, I'll come with you if you feel uncomfortable around her, but trust me when i say that even though she says scary things, Robin is so sweet and a joy to be around" Patting his shoulder you stand up ready to head to the aquarium bar where you know she'll be.
Percy sits there for a minute watching you start to walk, his eyes looking you up and down before muttering under his breath "Your sweet" turning you raise an eyebrow at hearing him mutter something but you couldn't hear what it was, Percy's cheeks are a little red, and he's refusing to look at you instead looking down at the ground making you feel like maybe you said something that upset him. "Something wrong?" You ask only for Percy to shoot up his cheeks going redder while shaking his head "No miss, nothing at all" He panics but you relax at his words, giving him a smile you gesture for him to follow "By the way stop with the miss, just call me Y/N" You state before opening the door to the aquarium bar for him. Percy nods walking into the slightly dark room, his eyes widen at seeing the large fish tank with a long red sofa curving around the front, in the middle where a round table is Robin has set up all her equipment. "It's going to take a while so i thought you might want something to look at while i work" Robin smiles patting the wooden chair thats facing the fish tank, when the young man doesn't move you pat his shoulder while walking past him and over to the black haired woman "Y/n, you deiced to join?" With a smile you nod watching as the young man slowly makes his way over while admiring the area around him before sitting in the chair "Yea i thought you might need some extra hands, you did a lot back at the prison, i just thought you might want a break" You were only half lying to her since you didn't want to tell her the real reason why your here but weather she bought it or not, it didn't really matter, she wouldn't poke and prod like Nami would. "Thank you, I'm grateful for the help, take these, spray the ends and then tease the ends of the hair, take thin and small sections"
You sit on one side of the young man while Robin sits on the other, both of you taking small sections and starting to comb from the bottom up, there were times when Percy would jump or flinch in pain when you accidentally pulled on a knot too hard or Robin got close to his scalp, but he sat through very well and didn't complain. "How are you holding up?" You ask after almost an hour of combing, you and Robin were making some headway but you can tell it's going to be almost two hours until your done and thats not including the hair cut "Urm… I'm ok" Percy hesitates clearly in discomfort but not wanting to show it, Robin leans round to look at the young mans face with a small kind smile "We'll take a break soon so don't worry" He nods at her starting to relax his shoulders as the two of you continue "I've been meaning to ask, is there anyone back home that you might want to contact?" Robin asks trying to get information while also distracting the young man from what she's doing, Percy shifts his eyes from the fish tank to the floor while gripping his knees "No… There's no one back home" hearing the sadness in his voice you stop brushing his hair and place your stuff on the side before moving round to take his hand in yours "I'm sorry for what ever happened but i hope you'll have a better life after all this" A sad smile appears on Percy's face, but he keeps his eyes on the floor, you can tell he's debating weather to talk about it or not but you don't want to push him into anything so keep quiet, silently comforting him. Robin on the other hand has other ideas it seems she wants to know more about the young man and what he's been though, why she wants to know so bad is something you should probably ask later but for now you'll let her do what she needs too.
Continuing to comb through a strand of untangled hair to make sure everything is out Robin asks what you didn't want too "What happened?" A sigh of relief leaves Percy's lips, it seems he needed permission to talk about it instead of bottling it up "My mother didn't really want me but my farther did, so he raised me, some times mum would come by, she'd stay a few weeks and then just suddenly leave. I never really liked her since she would yell and scream, she'd hurt my dad and call us names asking for money and stuff. I still don't understand why Dad would let her back into our lives with open arms, but he always kept me safe, fed and warm. A year into being forced into working at the prison i found out that he had passed away a few months before i was actually told…. I never got to talk to him, to say goodbye-" Tears run down his face as his hand grabs yours trying to gain some kind of comfort, holding his hand tight you grab a tissue and hand it to him letting the young man wipe his eyes. Robin stops what she's doing and places a hand on his shoulder in comfort, the two of you stay silent letting Percy cry as much as he needs too, its clear he needed this. "T-thank you" The young man sniffs after calming down a bit and loosening his grip on your hand "It's ok, i'm sorry you had to go through all that" You hand him a clean tissue as Robin stands making her way to stand in front of the young man "What you've been though is hard but you should look towards the future, one that you can be proud of. It's going to be hard but try not to dwell on the past"
Robin's words ring more than true since she's speaking from experience, it makes you so proud of her and reminds you of how far she's come, you hope the same will happen to Percy, that he'll be able to move forwards and find people who love him like the crew loves Robin. The three of you sit and talk for a while deciding to give Percy a break from tugging at his hair, the conversation becomes a lot lighter mainly talking about the Sunny and the fish tank until the door opens with a bang "Robin-Chan, Y/N my love" Sanji calls out with a big smile while holding a tray of snacks and drinks, Percy jumps spinning around to look at the cook while you and Robin both smile and let out a laugh as the blonde sways his way over "I bring snacks and drinks for my lovely lady's .. and our guest" Sanji keeps his smile even though he still doesn't like Percy all that much, placing the tray down he hands you your drink while placing a kiss on your cheek which you lean into. Robin hands the young man his drink as he calms down seeing it's not a threat "Thank you Sanji, this is excellent" The black haired woman smile taking her own drink and having a sip "Anything for you Robin-chan, is there anything else i can get you?" Sanji asks hearts starting to appear in his eyes making you giggle, you know he loves getting praises from the girls on the ship. Robin shakes her head while grabbing a piece of food starting to eat while the cook starts looking at Percy's hair "Wow, you got all this done in an hour, it's a lot longer than i thought it would be" The cook smiles taking a piece of Percy's combed hair in his hands.
The young man gulps and shy's away a little from the blonde but it seems Sanji didn't notice, too focused on yours and Robins work "A few more hours, and then we'll be done" Robin replays looking over her work with soft eyes, nodding in agreement you sip on your drink "I think your hair might actually touch the floor once were done" You giggle making Percy blush while rubbing the back of his neck shying away from you while slightly pushing Sanji's hand off his hair. The cook raises an eyebrow but pulls away from the young man's hair, he tries not to hate their guest, but he has two of his lovely lady's all to himself and seems to have taken a liking to you. He knows it natural since your kind and understanding, your not one to judge right away so its easy for people to be drawn to you but he's jealous of the attention your giving him. "Everything ok hun?" You ask seeing the cook staring at the back of Percy's head with that strange thinking face, snapping out of his thoughts the cook quickly turns to you with a big smile "Yes, sorry love, i was just thinking. The work you've both done is amazing and with Robin-chan's hair skills i'm sure it'll look great. Long, short, straight, wavy, it'll look amazing no matter how you style his hair, your skills are amazing Robin-chan" As he speaks hearts start to appear in his eyes as he cups his cheeks and sways from side to side fawning over Robin's skills. You can't say the cooks wrong, the black haired woman somehow has a natural skill when it comes to hair "Thank you sanji, your too kind" Robin waves him off but the cook takes her hand and shakes his head wanting to praise her work "Your hands are amazing Robin-chan-" He goes to say more when Luffy calls out for the cook.
You can hardly hear what the captain is yelling about but its clear he needs Sanji for something so with a sigh the cook lets go of Robin's hand and walks over to you giving your forehead a lingering kiss "I'll see you later my love" Rubbing your cheek with his thumb the cook looks down at you with soft eyes making your heart melt "See you later hun" You smile up at him feeling warmth swell inside your chest when he reluctantly removes his hand from your face before heading out the door closing it behind him. "How does he have so much energy?" Percy suddenly asks making you laugh while Robin shrugs, you honestly don't know, the cook works all hours of the day and night but no matter how tired he is the blonde somehow manages to hide it and take care of the crew. Placing down your empty glasses the two of you get back to work, conversations would come and go but the silence in between wasn't weird or awkward, it was actually kind of nice and calming. With Percy's hair fully de-tangled and straight, Robin did some dry treatments on his hair while deciding what to do for the cut. You were right about his hair touching the floor but when he stood up it went to the back of his knees, the black haired woman looked over his hair checking strands "I'm going to have to take a lot off due to the damage, I'd say probably up to here" Robin explains placing her hand just under his shoulder blades, Percy nods but you can see a slight sad look on his face "It will grow out with time but for now we need you comfortable and healthy"
The young man looks to you with a small smile before turning to Robin "I used to have long hair with an undercut, I liked it that way because when I'd put my hair up in a bun the back would be different, sometimes I'd get patterned shaved into the small patch of hair there… could you maybe do that?" Percy rubs his arm unsure if thats ok for her to do but Robin nods with a smile grabbing her scissors and starting to cut the dead pieces of hair off "Of course, I'll try and keep as much as i can" Sitting back you watch the black haired woman work, the young man still seems shy around her so your kinda reluctant to walk away but you have other things to do, chores that need doing. You know if you don't get most of them done now you'll be swamped tomorrow, on the other hand maybe taking a break won't be so bad, the joins in your fingers and wrist are starting to hurt and stiffen from all the combing. With Percy sitting down and Robin shaping his hair you stand stretching your sore arms, the young man moves his eyes to look at you keeping his head still "I'll leave you too d-" You smile but get interrupted when Percy grabs your hand "Wait.. your leaving?" He still refuses to move his head even though Robin has stopped to look you over seeing you wince in pain from his grip, taking a breath you manage to pry his hand off yours and move around to be in front of the young man "I have work to do otherwise i won't get a break tomorrow, Robin will look after you" Patting his shoulder you walk past him giving the black haired woman a nod before leaving.
Despite the pain in your hands you do what you need to before dinner but still end up doing stuff after dinner hoping to catch up on everything, it wasn't as easy as you thought it would be, your hands keep cramping up. Walking onto the deck you sigh heading to your next chore only stopping when you notice Zoro leaning against the tree, his eyes closed and hands resting behind his head. Its so tempting to join him and a debate forms in your head, either put up with the pain and get back to work or join the swordsman and relax. "I know you want to" Zoro smirks calling out to you with his eyes still closed, letting out a laugh you walk over to him, the swordsman's eye opens looking you over, his smirk starting to drop while patting his lap getting you to sit "I look that bad?" You laugh again while sitting in his crossed lap and leaning your back against his chest, Zoro sighs wrapping his arms around you while resting his chin on your shoulder, one of his hands moves from your waist to your hand lightly running his fingers over your knuckles "You look tired, are your hands sore? their stiff" The green haired man whispers taking one of your hands in both of his and starts massaging them, a smile forms on your face as you lean back into him starting to relax "Yea, i was helping Robin with Percy's hair, it cut the time down but my hands are paying the price… I'm also behind on chores" You sigh turning your head to the side so you can place a kiss on his neck earning a hum of acknowledgment, relaxing into him you nuzzle into his neck getting comfy and warm "We can skip training tomorrow if you want" Zoro suddenly says making you raise an eyebrow while moving to look at him.
The swordsman trains with you snakes at least once a week and tomorrow is supposed to be one of those days, its kind of him to skip it but you don't want him too since you love seeing the joy he gets out of it and it also makes your snakes happy. Shaking your head you lay it back down on his shoulder "No I'll be fine, I'll try and get everything done in the morning, if not I'll do the garden while you train, that way i'm sitting down" You sigh relaxing into him again, the swordsman prefers it if you rest while he trains but he knows not to complain once you've made up your mind. Zoro gives a nod turning your hand over to massage your palm, the smile on your face grows at feeling his fingers drag along your palm releasing any tension, you know this well although he's never done it to you before "Oooh, the Sanji treatment, boy do i feel special" Zoro chuckles at your words while placing a kiss on your forehead "You deserve it, working so hard." Humming into him you relax into the treatment he's giving you. A few times a week the swordsman will massage Sanji's hands like this making sure to take care and get any aches and pains out. He's only ever done it to the cook so of course you feel special that now your getting that treatment, you also now understand why Sanji melts into Zoro when ever he does this. The feeling is heavenly like he's massaging your brain releasing all the tension in your head and making you thoughts float away by just pushing into your palm and fingers. So relaxed you didn't notice he moved over to your other hand doing the same as the other one, you could fall asleep like this, in his warm embrace, under the stars the only sound being the waves, light breeze and his heart beat.
