Hey! Hey, you! I’m writing a new fic! Here’s the first two chapters!!
In light of the LoZ movie news I started thinking about the old tv show from ‘89. As a kid I used to love that show despite all its quirks, and it still holds a special place in my heart to this day. The more I thought about it, the more ideas came to me concerning how it could be lovingly rewritten to better reflect the wealth of lore and the overall vibe that the game series now has, so many years later.
I am having an absolute blast writing this one, and I cannot wait to share the rest with you all. Let me know what you think!

Ok now to be annoying about a completely different flavor of Zelda: That cartoon from the 80s that has aged so poorly I take psychic damage every time I watch it (which has been multiple times (I have problems)). A few months ago when rewatching and being sick of the Link's personality from the show (his best feature is how funny the "Well excuuuuse me, princess" line is) I was like "I wish the quiet kid from the games/art was here instead" and accidentally thought too hard and made an au/rewrite of the cartoon lmao.
Anyways Zelda cartoon au where cryptid boy Link saves the post apocalyptic Hyrule of loz 1 and chills in the castle with cartoon Zelda to defend the triforce pieces that they have while trying to find the last piece before Ganon can find it, stumbling across the sleeping loz 2 Zelda along the way lol. Hijinks ensue as he teaches Zelda the brawns to back up her girlboss and he gets an adventure buddy because its dangerous to go alone and Zelda with her boomerang and crossbow goes hard. I think a monster of the week style plot works for the earlier Zelda games, but an overarching plot could coexist with that since that is kinda how games work lol.
As per usual here are a bunch of slapdash barely related sketches of my ideas with my expanded thoughts below bc I think it'd be fun to share:
I look at the official art of Link being a quiet determined little dude with a backpack of tools and wish that that was represented more. Like look at him! What a guy! Imagine giving a quiet puzzle solving 14 year old a sword, lethal magical weapons, and a wasteland to explore! I would love a show about that! In terms of other characters, swap out that annoying fairy character, put in a Navi clone, at least Navi didn't have a crush on Link🤮. Ganon can stay the same so long as he was always a demon pig and was never a Gerudo man because unlike Nintendo, I do not want to imply that the only prominent man of color in the series has only one big braincell thats just screaming "EVIL" on loop. But! Keep Zelda the same, I love her so much in the cartoon, she's obnoxious in a slay girlboss way, maximum vibes. By virtue of not having a paper thin plot, most other characters that were fine get fixed by proxy.
I think plot wise? It takes place a few years after the first game. Initially, Link saved the royal family and they started rebuilding that area of Hyrule, and Link traveled around to help people. One day, Ganon's minions start making attacks on the castle to steal the triforce pieces back to revive him fully, and a Zelda who greatly admires Links steps up to defend the place. Eventually, Zelda requests Link return to help defend the castle while they search for the mysterious hidden third triforce piece in order to combine the full thing and wish for peace in Hyrule. Link agrees and the hyjinks begin.
IIRC the og Link backstory was that he was the son of the hyrulean queen and the elf king or smth? In the manga? I didn't want him to be hylian royalty but I wanted to keep that cryptid vibe, hence why I have him related instead to the great fairy and the kokiri. He just leaves the forest/cave one day with literally nothing to go save Hyrule, what a chad. I think it'd be funny if people describe Zelda as feral due to how boisterous and headstrong she is, especially out on the field, but Link is the quiet version of wild that you don't notice at first. She is openly intelligent and snarky in comparison to "says 3 lines a day, bombs first and asks questions later, explore under every rock and bush" forest kid Link.
It would be fun though if "rushes into danger" Zelda resonated more with the triforce of power and "solves dungeon puzzles for funsies" Link with the triforce of wisdom, then they both resonated with the triforce of courage upon finding it. idk tho lol
I also think two different young Zeldas coexisting with each other after one awoke from a cursed slumber would be really funny. Like that's gotta be so awkward, especially if one has the fighter girlboss slay up to 11 and the other just woke up from a coma to her family gone and her kingdom destroyed and just kinda wants to read books and drink tea in peace. Imagine being the same age or older than your great (great?) aunt. Or imagine if the old lady Impa nursemaid to Zelda 1 Zelda was the young Impa nursemaid to the Zelda 2 Zelda. Wild.
If I wasn't incapable of remembering to finish writing wips I'd write that series lol. Alas, this is all I can pull for now.
I'd love to call this propaganda to go watch the show but maybe don't because its yikes. This is moreso propaganda for someone to make a Zelda cartoon show instead of the movie that I sense Nintendo is plotting to make. Also, if you've read this far, I should mention I also will probably be posting art from some of my actual long term Zelda aus beyond just expanding on the cartoon, though I may continue to do that if my train of thought continues on these tracks.

Nightfall - Zelda (1989) Cartoon AU | Zelink week day 7: Free day
Summary:
Years of mischief shared between the young Princess of Hyrule and her royal but somewhat annoying knight have gone as smooth as it could expect when their personalities are constantly clashing. But amongst the bickering, is there possibly something else between the two? An exploration, expansion, and partial rewrite of the 1989 Cartoon series where I try and contain it to a one-shot. AKA this silly little show has wormed its way into my heart and despite its cringe moments there is good stuff there. (Zelink blueprint im telling you)

I've gotta ask... "well excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu" and "Spy X Family: The Unseen Files"
The first one is the file for my Zelda Cartoon rewrite! It's not only going to feature rewrites of certain episodes from the original, but I have quite a few ideas for new ones as well. It's got some inspiration from the mainline games and the Valiant Comics, too! Spryte is more like a fairy companion from the games, Impa is there, and Zelink starts off with a very pre-Calamity vibe... Oh, and I resigned Ganon to look a bit more like his design from TLoZ 1! I plan on sharing more doodles on @nocturnalfandomdoodles in the future. Main reason I haven't posted much of it is story formatting (it's been bugging me), and the same goes for this next one.
The Spy X Family doc is for fan episode ideas! The one I have fully plotted out is about Yor's first Mother's Day as, well... a mother. Essentially, it follows Anya's secret plot to celebrate Yor without her finding the surprise. I thought of most of the concept as a comic, but I haven't had time to draw it, so it remains written out in transcript form for now. There's also a wintry episode I have written down. :)

Thinking of rewriting Blood of the Covenant into my own links meet au just to have more room with characterization. Main cast below
Hyrule: oldest of the lot. Ranger-y vibes. Will effortlessly sidestep low level fights and monster ambushes, they're simply not worth the effort. Is also excellent at assessing a threat, and avoiding getting in over his head. Has an excellent beard. Legend: About mid age of the group, early 20's-ish. Only cover LttP and LA. Alternately very soft and gentle, and very hot tempered. Will not stand by and observe injustice, even when odds are very much against him. This has on at least one occasion resulted in several dead bodies and himself with several injuries. Can take jokes at his expense, but not insults: an insult pointed at him (or someone he cares about) is liable to end in bruised knuckles and bloody noses. Enjoys beekeeping. Light: The heroine of Light from Ancient Stone Tablets. Slightly younger then Legend, with a more layed back personality. A bit of an unknown, with a mysterious past, and a couple of abilities inspired by a certain 80's cartoon that absolutely possessed my childhood. Twilight: Easily the most cynical of the bunch, though not to the point of being obnoxious. A few years older than Legend. Is either the one to reign back Legends rage, or else to join him in a fight. Time: Late 20's/early 30's. Has settled into a fairly peaceful life after her adventures. Happily married to Zelda and Malon. Understands the importance of hope and trust, and doesn't let her adventures turn her bitter. Neither does she let her skills dull.
And that's the cast and crew for now. I'm probably going to add more eventually, but I need to play their respective games first, I find it helps to really get a grasp on the character. Of these, the only games I haven't beat are BS Zelda: ancient stone tablets (can't get my grubby little mitts on it), Ocarina of Time (Playing it, can't get past the hell damned dark link fight), Majora's Mask (need to beat OoT first) and links awakening (started the remake but never finished it, planning on playing the original once I finish my alttp replay)

Hi I’m Razz. I’m blind (yes really, before you ask look up what a screen reader is), an artist, a writer sometimes, too curious for my own good, and pretty nerdy. I don’t say much right now but if you want just the art and none of the chatter go to @razzekart Someday I might rewrite my blindness faq but for now there’s stuff in the “just blind things” tag.
I’m not very good at tagging things (this site is off and on a nightmare to use with disabilities) but if you need something tagged let me know and I’ll do my best. Alt text/image descriptions make my day, a sincere “thank you” to everyone who makes, uses, and adds them to posts!
Not currently in any fandoms but you may see me lurking around: Dragonriders of Pern, Metalocalypse, Spyro the Dragon, Legend of Zelda, Homestuck, and a bunch of odds and ends. I like rats, sphynx cats, dragons, bats, German shepherds, and nature in general.
I am: aro/ace, probably older than your dad, ADHD, some kind of furry, 404 gender not found, queer, don’t care what people write or draw but not a fan of anyone who thinks it’s okay to bully people over cartoons kissing. If any of that bothers you the block button is a click away. Life is too short to waste on things you hate (and the “friends” you made through hatred will devour you as soon as they run out of outsiders to torture). If you’re an anti or a terf I’ll block you to save us both the hassle; sorry you’re in a cult, it’s not my job to get you out, best of luck.
If you’re under 18 I’ll be blocking you. I’m sure you’re awesome, it’s nothing personal; I haven’t been paid to babysit and it’s not worth the potential legal trouble for me. We can hang out when you’re old enough to do drugs. Will also block if you display your age like some sort of honor badge, I’ve had nothing but bad times from that sort. I don’t care what your DNI says, I’ll block you for being the kind of asshole who demands obedience of strangers and lists their weaknesses for the real predators to take advantage of.
tl,dr:
Razz, blind, ace, older than you, queer, furry-ish (hairless rat)
cartoonist, writer, huge nerd, quiet with the occasional rambling post, open for asks, not as prickly as I seem
antis, terfs, aphobes/bigots, kids, people with DNIs need not apply (will be blocked)

For those of you who want a rewrite of the LOZ cartoon, please think of the possibility: If Facade was a good guy. Here’s a short list of how I think this would play out.
1. He wasn’t lying when he said he was an adventurer, but unlike Link, he’s had many companions. Because of his experiences, he knows a thing or two about teamwork. This would lead him to help Link get used to the idea and learn how to be a team player. Along with Zelda, too, since she has her flaws in teamwork with Link too.
2. Facade knows sign language, so perhaps he’d engage in silent conversation with Link. It gives Link a sort of calmness knowing that he doesn’t have to have verbal communication with everyone around. Both he and Link are teaching Zelda together.
3. He went to talk with Link after the king mentioned Link was an adventurer as well. He’d had hoped for a very interesting story or two, but Link was troubled by something and the topic shifted to guarding the Triforce.
4. He still really appreciates keeping himself clean and presentable (come on, that’s like a key factor in him!), but not so much that he’d hesitate if someone’s life was in danger. He’s just going to fuss to himself later when he washes it, complaining about how rude monsters are. Think “Do you moblins have any idea how much that cape cost?! Now you’re in trouble!”
5. Incase you’re wondering, yes, he knows how to sew.
6. Secretly a bi disaster.
7. Not a big fan of his mother, who shows blatant favoritism for his brother.
8. Doesn’t have anything against his brother, who’s been doing what he could to include him as much as possible and support him.
I’m thinking of adding this to my AU, which is a little like a rewrite of the cartoon. Here’s a couple things about Link, and probably half of these are based on his past experiences.
1. Wielder of the Triforce of Courage, with the symbol on his right hand. When in face of a big threat, the symbol will glow green, and golden outline of two empty triangles arranged in a small pyramid will appear in more dire circumstances.
2. Selective mute. He lived most of his life being quiet, anyways. Zelda didn’t understand it at all at first and would get angry with him for not speaking at times, but she eventually realized what was going on and apologized.
3. Teaches King Harkanian and Zelda sign language.
4. Struggles to sleep without noise.
5. Sometimes has conversations with Cathrine, even though they clearly don’t speak the same language.
6. Knows the location of the—
7. Scared of what will happen if either side gets both Triforces.
8. I’m seriously debating giving him another form! The options I’ve thought of are good ol’ wolf, also known as the divine beast, a loft wing (since they’re symbols of the blessing from the goddess as a reference to how he was chosen to wield the Triforce of Courage), a dragon since they’re often symbols of courage, or just add some wacky, cryptid-like features to him. Definitely glowing eyes if it’s the last one, glowing eyes are a must!
9. Probably pan, but never stopped to think about it because he thought it was normal to find both a man and woman attractive. Besides, in the past, he was much more focused on the job.
10. Number one safe space is currently unknown.
11. Yes, he can cook. What, did you think he’d just do takeout everyday when he was in the forest or something? With what money? And from what restaurant?
That’s all I can think of for the characters for now, but don’t worry! More will come sooner or later! Now for some “general” headcanons.
1. The Triforce of Courage is green
2. When all three Triforces come together, they’ll turn golden
3. It may come as a surprise, but Hyrule and Arcadia, most of the world in fact, doesn’t know about the goddesses and simply think that the Triforces are simply extremely powerful and sentient objects, not symbols of the golden three.
4. Link knows, he’s just not going to say anything. Yet.
5. Ganon was never cursed, that’s his natural form.
6. Link was found by King Harkanian and offered a job after he saved him.
7. The characters look their age this time!
8. There are two kinds of Zoras, and Link has met them both.
9. Link has also met some Gorons.
10. No one really seems to know where exactly Link came from, or who his family is.

Biweekly Media Roundup
- All Saints Street (Anime) - Adorable and underrated, been enjoying s3 and happy to see Crystal be animated!
- The Magical Revolution of the Reincarnated Princess and the Genius Young Lady (Anime) - One of the many yuri-centric anime I missed from last/earlier this year, I have been enjoying this one for it's fun 'magic-technology fusion' plot and interesting central characters. I still have a little left to go so I'll save most thoughts till the end, but for now I think it's cute, Anisphia is a fun mad scientist lead, Euphie is adorable, I hate the stupid "evil faces" they pull but appreciate that they do at least give her brother a valid motivation, even if it wasn't built up great, and the vampire reveal was unexpected but kind of funny so it's fine.
- Chainsaw Man (Anime) - Rewatch for my sister's benefit, still love and fear Makima.
- The Locked Tomb Series (Books) - Lagged a bit on finishing the audiobook of Harrow due to the books intentionally confusing first half not jiving with my usual "listen while working" habit, but I took a couple days to clean through my room and in the process finally got through, and boy did I have to say the second half really returned my interest, this series is insane. I do prefer Gideon's narration over Harrows, I like them both as characters and can appreciate the more serious tone of Harrows thought process but Gideon's is just more my speed with how fun and memorable it is, at least in audiobook form. Anyway Ianthe is great, I miss griddlehark interactions, would've loved to see more of Harrows canon ship AUs, and excited to see what level of f-ed up Nona ends up being - this series is very good.
- Link Click (Anime) - Rewatching s1 in preparation for season 2, which is airing now. Not much to say yet, I like the backgrounds.
- Voltron (Cartoon) - This is a weird add here as I didn't actually watch Voltron recently, but I have been listening to multiple video essays on the series as a whole and the very weird way it went downhill before it's awful finale. With series like this with a decent premise but poor execution I can't help but want to rewrite it in my mind, so Step 1 way more of the team needs to be aliens, the aliens need to look more, you know, alien and not just like elves, Lotor should have stayed a sympathetic doing f-ed up things for good reasons villain, and while I did like Shiro during the first couple seasons I actually did watch, he should have died in order to make the surviving team members dynamic fit better/character development reasons. Can't believe they made Keith here essentially a space werewolf and then had the gall to only show that with 1 purple scar and 1 frame of yellow eyes like, commit dammit!
- Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth (Video Game) - This sure is a game so far.
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Video Game) - Got the Ember set and it looks dope, as well as finally fighting the gloom hands/ Phantom Ganon which were not as frustrating as I assumed they would be, and they do have awesome designs. In general, I really like how much they upped the monster designs in this game, I'll have to do a ranking of them on my monster blog sometime.
- Crazy Ex Girlfriend (TV) - S4 has been pretty slow paced compared to the previous seasons, which works fine for the narrative and themes but does lead to me watching it a bit slower rather than the cliffhanger binges of previous seasons. As usual the songs are still bangers, with "I Always Never Believed in You" and "I Want To Be A Child Star" being recent faves.
Listening to: Sway Cover and Eat Your Young Cover by Reinaeiry, Fast Car by Tracy Chapman, It Was A Shit Show and Hello, Nice To Meet You from Crazy Ex Girlfriend, Let's Get This Over With by They Might Be Giants, If We Have Each Other by Alec Benjamin, Fight For Me by AlicebanD, I Wish by Haley Kiyoko, Crush by David Archuleta, Not Another Song About Love by Hollywood Ending, Fences by Paramore.

8. Favourite fic from another author?
Oh this is a hard one. I’m going to keep it to zelda but if you want me to give recs for other fandoms then I’m down. Also the irony of you of all people asking for fic recs haha! Love it.
Okay, I can’t just pick one, so here’s a few that I love and have gone back to re-read several times. I’ve chosen some less known fics, just to give y’all something you might not have read before. There’s no real order to them though.
Linked Universe:
Looking For Group By Tashilover
Modern au where there are still heroes, but the way they are found is different. Really liked this one and it inspired my own modern au - which I still need to rewrite - and I like the world building. Great Twilight, Time and Wild in this one.
Stand Not at My Grave By Glau (Glaucus_Atlanticus)
God this one. It’s got some of the greatest relationship building out there between Time and Twilight. Most fics just start out with them with that parental bond, but this takes place when the Chain first meet up and shows who that might go down for Twilight. It also has aroace Twilight and Queer platonic partners and just a great read. Also really good Wild as well, of course! Him and Twilight are a delight.
Reunion Tour by Coolcrocs
This one! Post Lu where they all meet back up again! Nb Wild! There’s just so much to love about this fic that I can’t name it all. Just please read it, it’s really good.
memories misplaced by wheatbreadslice
Okay! Get ready to have thousands of years of angst at a speedrun from the pov of ghosts! Post lu as well, but lets take that concept and running with it into the afterlife.
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild:
Honey Nut by liketolaugh
Okay, a long one, but worth every word. I don't think there has been another Zelda fic that I’ve gotten quite as engrossed in. The ocs are wonderful - and that’s coming from someone that usually avoid oc heavy fics- and the world building it just breathtaking. Link from post-botw physically travels back in time to when him and Zelda were just children and helps them prepare for the Calamity. He meets familiar strangers along the way.
10. Origin of your username?
Okay, this is a bit of story. But when I was eleven or so, I desperately wanted a nickname. The one that would traditionally go with my name was also the name of a character from a cartoon. She scared me as a child and I did not want to share a name with her because I’d be reminded of her every time I heard it.
So, my friends decided to help me. We threw some around, but none fit. Until my friend - remembering that I was obsessed with zombies (some children loved horses or dolphins, I read the same three zombie novels over and over but anyway-) and she suggested Ammo.
I remember we’d been walking down a country road, corn field surrounding us, when she’d suggested it. I loved it so much that I’ve used it on every single piece of media I could get my hands on since then. I used to go by Ammo121 for the longest time, but I’ve been trying to get rid of the numbers at the end.
Sadly just Ammo is already taken on ao3 - by someone who doesn’t even use ao3 no I’m not salty - so I’ve been trying some things out. I didn’t like how Ammo-never-runs-out-of-knives looked on there - it was too long - but I finally found one that I don’t mind. I am now Ammo_Writes! On ao3 at least.
44. Share a snippet of your current WIP?
Oh god, which one? Um. Oh! My Older Wild fic! How about the first couple paragraphs from that? The fic itself probably won’t see the light of day for a while because I want to take my time with it and get as much of it written as I can. But here’s a little taste of what it might be like! Wrote this months ago, and I’ve definitely grown as a writer since, so hopefully it’s up to snuff. Enjoy!
The soil was cool between his toes and against his hands and made for a nice contrast to the sun warming his back. He wasn’t too worried about getting dirty – he never was – so he wiped his hands on his pants once he was finished pulling the last of the carrots. His basket had a nice mix of vegetables that he’d wash before storing in his slate. He’s particularly looking forward to trying out this year’s crop of tomatoes. It had taken years and several close calls to get them to properly grow in his era. One of a number of different plants that had been lost over the years, both he and Zelda had taken it upon themselves to bring them back from extinction. He’d bought as many seeds as he could get his hands on before the end of their adventure through time and space – and now he has tomatoes in his garden and they’re widely used all over Hyrule.
Standing up, he didn’t bother trying to get any more dirt off his hands or knees, but he did his best not to get it into his hair when he pushed his braid over his shoulder. He’d need to get it trimmed soon, the splint ends are getting a little too much for even him. Maybe he’ll make a day out of it and stop by the spa in Gerudo Town, say hello to his friends there.
Speaking of friends, he’ll have to visit Zelda so that they can set up a time for her to come over and help can some of these vegetables. Then he can force some of them on her and make her favorite cake. Or oh! Maybe even invite her on his spa day, to help her get away from the rebuilding for a bit. He knows that several of the people working under her would jump at the opportunity to force her to take a break.

Why is Pokemon Legends: Arceus important to Nintendo?
This article was originally published on Void0Media’s official blog here.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus is the biggest shake-up in the Pokémon formula in twenty-six years. No doubt, the success of Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has forced GameFreak, Nintendo’s other posterchild, to act. Pokémon Legends: Arceus completely rewrites everything we have learned about the Pokémon games while keeping what worked from the previous titles. The question remains: Why is Pokémon Legends: Arceus important to Nintendo & Pokemon?
We will examine this from both in-game and the natural world to understand why it has resonated so strongly — both positively and negatively — with its audience.
Tumblr media
If it ain’t broke, why fix it?
A phrase that seemed to be the prevailing motto of GameFreak and Nintendo. For the past twenty-six years, Pokémon has been the same formula with new layers of paint every couple of years. During this time, Pokémon has had its share of hits and misses. The jump to 3D saw the 2D sprites lose their charm. GameFreak reduced the scope of the games, and the decision to have a limited range of Pokémon in the games was controversial to many.
However, despite this, the games continued to sell. GameFreak’s reputation of making a fun, polished game loop would be noteworthy — even if the package around that core game loop is not always polished itself. The developers at GameFreak are brilliant game designers. Picking up older games and playing them today shows how much care and attention went into it. Even as programmers, the technical achievement of Pokémon Red/Blue/Green/Yellow for its time was incredible and worthy of praise.
This brings us to today. Pokémon Red and Blue were released in 1996 — twenty-six years ago. The landscape of video gaming has changed immensely, far more than most people envisioned all those years ago. Despite this, GameFreak continues to give us the same, though at times genuinely fun, game loop as they did before. GameFreak, and Nintendo, was incentivized to continue giving us the same experience as they did in 1996, but why?
Children.
Gamers forgot they were once children.
Pokémon is and always was, targeted towards children and teenagers. Most gamers seem to forget that their first exposure to Pokémon was through the movie that every one cried for, Pokémon: The First Movie, or through the cartoon/anime Pokémon the Series. Most of us played our first Pokémon Game when we were children, as did most fans throughout the years. The fans came after us because their first exposure to Pokémon was the refined game loop that made us fans all those years ago.
Some parents bought Sword and Shield for their children. Is it the best Pokémon Game? Not mainly, but these children love the tv show. They love how they interact with Pikachu or Eevee in Let’s Go or even with the Pokémon in the camp in Sword and Shield. They love watching Pokémon jump out at them in Pokémon Snap.
We can be as critical as we want. However, Nintendo and GameFreak know what they must do to keep Pokémon going into the Next Generation. As mentioned before, people who grew up with Pokémon are giving their children Switches and Pokémon Games, even if we do not think it is the best game.
Does this mean that Nintendo and GameFreak get a free pass to do the same thing repeatedly?
How the mighty have fallen.
The gaming landscape today now bleeds into the tens and hundreds of billions. The onslaught of the pandemic saw the gaming space become the prime cultural field before losing it to TikTok. Among Us, Minecraft, Roblox, and the like have become cultural juggernauts, unlike anything before it. Discord became the primary communication tool for gamers of all ages. Technological progress was turned up to 11 in the gaming space as every company tried to profit in any way they could.
Corporations such as Microsoft and Disney have staked their claim. The game industry has exploded in growth with no signs of slowing down.
Where does that leave the Triple-A, multi-billion dollar, hundred-year-old gaming company? In a spot they have never been in before.
Too big to fail.
The Pokémon Company — which GameFreak, Creatures Inc, and Nintendo jointly own — is a titan.
Pokémon is so ubiquitous worldwide that it is hard even to think it could fade into obscurity. After all, Pokémon is the highest-grossing media franchise in the world. Despite this, its video game division has brought in less than a quarter. However, it is ~24% of the franchise’s USD 110 billion revenue since its inception in 1996. It was a staggering USD 27 billion, but nothing compared to its gargantuan merchandising revenue of USD 88 billion. The video game division certainly has done better than its Box office revenue of only USD 1 billion and home entertainment of USD 148 million.
Numbers do not lie, and it is clear that Pokémon’s video games are the main driving factor. The tv shows are glorified advertisements for the games and the merchandise.
With the changing landscape of video games, Nintendo — and Pokémon — have found themselves in a tough spot.
When Pokémon first burst out onto the scene back in 1996, no other game had that level of content, particularly in a handheld system. Though other games were more visually appealing, that did not matter because none had the sheer amount of content. The game boasted a hundred and fifty-one monsters, each with their stats, each with their own independent move sets, creating multiple teams from any 151 characters, with a surprisingly large world and a considerable number of quests, all on a handheld. Most RPGs, at the time, did not have something like that at that scale.
When Nintendo released the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1983, they effectively saved the games industry, in the US, after the video game crash of ’83. Nintendo was untouchable for years after that. Even when Nintendo seemed to falter, they eventually got back on track. They built a legacy and staying power that is beyond enviable.
It is not 1983, though, and it is not 1996 either.
The eyes see, the hands do
The Nintendo Switch launched with what many now consider Nintendo’s ace up their sleeve, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The developers meticulously designed and crafted a stunning demonstration of what was capable on the Switch’s hardware. The game still holds secrets almost five years later. The game was a resounding success, and it was an instant hit with both fans and non-fans alike for The Legend of Zelda. In the eyes of many, it is a must-buy when picking up a Nintendo Switch.
The game ushered in a new era of copy-cats, from Ubisoft’s Immortals Fenyx Rising to, most notably, MiHoYo’s Genshin Impact.
This open-world concept on the Switch only served to remind long-time Pokémon fans of what they have always wanted.
Then came Sword and Shield, with the Wild Area. In this semi-open world instance, Pokémon roam around before interacting with them.
The fandom now divided, many praised GameFreak for trying something new. However, many criticized the game, as it felt inferior to what they could have gotten and what GameFreak had made prior. The graphics were also a sore point during Sword and Shield’s release as the expectation for a console-class Pokémon game was high. It certainly did not help that the game’s animation was simplistic and lacking from previous games. The topic of a reduced Pokédex reared its head in popular discourse. However, it would eventually make its way back into the game as DLCs, another sore spot for long-time fans.
Nintendo’s disastrous Wii U launch had placed the company on a potential downward spiral. A failure on every front. Everything was riding on the release of the Nintendo Switch, had it failed to meet expectations, it would have spelled the end of Nintendo in the console space. It was not.
The rise of the Switch saw renewed interest in the handheld space. The recent innovations in laptop CPUs and GPUs saw many companies trying their hands at similar hardware. Among these was Valves Steam Deck. However, Valve was the least of Nintendo’s problems.
The Switch initially came to market in the middle of a console refresh. It ended up releasing alongside the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One refresh. Now the Switch is competing with the 4K-possible Xbox Series X and PS5. The Switch’s graphics and hardware performance were already considered weak by PS4 and Xbox One standards, and now the gap has widened.
The recent trend of larger companies buying game studios, such as Sony and Microsoft, meant that these companies would no longer be third-party developers for the Switch. While some companies claim they would continue to support the Switch, in practice, it eventually returns to the parent companies’ platform cough Microsoft Store cough.
Things have only gotten worse as larger companies with much different interests buy out smaller game studios.
While this is business and most businesses — like Nintendo — are out to make money, Nintendo should be rightfully concerned.
All together now
For at least a decade, fans have been clamoring for an open-world Pokémon game. While many would have liked more polish on Pokémon Legends: Arceus, it is an excellent direction for the long-time fans to return to the franchise.
The fans who have been here since day one who watched Nintendo and The Pokémon Company released what many consider a bad visual experience has been the nail in the coffin. Cementing that Nintendo and GameFreak are milking their fans for all they are worth.
The shake-up from a gameplay standpoint has made Pokémon Legends: Arceus a unique experience unmatched by anything that came before it. It is sure to spawn copy-cats much as the original Pokémon did.
Over the years, many fans attempted to bring Pokémon to life in a 3D space. These projects could not get any real footing as Nintendo often sent “cease and desist orders.” Dealing with Nintendo’s lawyers caused many fans to sour and thus caused these persons to be far more critical of Nintendo and the Pokémon Company.
The “Monster Catching/Pokémon-inspired” genre has fresh blood from the very developers who helped bring it to the mainstream.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus is important because Nintendo saw what The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild did for the Switch. After this success, it would have put pressure on GameFreak to try something new, and we saw with Sword & Shield that they dipped their toes in that open world that was requested so heavily.
Nintendo (+ The Pokémon Company) would have been content with almost 20 million in sales for a mainline game. With the increased competition in both hardware and software from new and seasoned developers across the globe, Nintendo and The Pokémon Company knew it was finally time to start taking chances. Nintendo now has more ammunition for exclusive to the Switch. Breath of the Wild — a brilliant launch title that will go down in history — and Pokémon Legends: Arceus — a revolution in its genre and the fastest-selling Pokémon Game.
Conclusion
Pokémon Legends: Arceus is ultimately important because of a whirlwind of events, each putting pieces in place and waiting for someone to pick it up. Pokémon Legends: Arceus represents to fans for Nintendo & Pokémon that these companies are not only listening but actively implementing what the fans have wanted for years. This game renews faith in The Pokémon Company. It ensures everyone, fan and non-fan alike, keeps their eyes firmly on what Nintendo & The Pokémon Company has yet to do.

Teeny Tiny Chapter Update
I'm back, baby! Kinda!
I decided to add a smidge more content to the most recent chapter of my Zelda cartoon rewrite, so here that is. I like what I've added - I think it adds a good bit of pizzaz. If you're a fan of that sweet, sweet, emotional hurt/comfort, check it out.
More new chapters to come (hopefully this week! hopefully!!!)

WIP title game
(Rules: Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Send me an ask with the title that most intrigues you and I’ll post a little snippet of it or tell you something about it! And then tag as many people as you have WIPs.
@ladylynse, you did an open tag, this is what happens.
*sucks in a deep breath* Onward into the bottomless pit that is my WIP folder! (some stuff has been cancelled, that's why the numbers skips so much)
07 - Sonic the Hedgehog (title says it all. Was supposed to be some sort of novelization of the 1991 game, but.. eh... I never get around to it)
09 - Golden Mayhem (Sonic the Hedgehog. Old. Been there for years)
10 - DP One Shots (not really a whip, but also not a complete fic either)
13 - Unwilling Partners (Rockman.exe / Megaman Battle Network. This thing... this thing is... long. This beast is 29 chapters long, with a 30th forever stuck where it is. It has over 140k words and has been going on since... since the distant 2010, if not earlier. It's a mummy that hangs around in my closet and refuses to be dusted off, prompting me to wonder if I should. just. rewrite. it. From the beginning. Because I refuse to give up on this.)
14 - The Ninth (rc9gn time travel fic)
15 - The Ties That Binds (rc9gn fic in which I have a plan but that plan still needs to be written down. My first time tackling a story through the eyes of side characters rather than the main one)
16 - Odin's Eye (Trollhunters x How to train your dragon crossover that is currently going on. I have a plan. Kinda. I want to keep this short(er).)
18 - Through The Eyes of The Rookie (a... somewhat AU based on the game Sonic Forces. The continuation of Fall of a Hero, Rise of a God. 1 chapter down, at least 10 others to go)
19 - The Wings of Daedalus (this is the most recent entry into the bottomless folder. Assassin's Creed fandom. Desmond Lives AU where he plays the Master Assassin rather than the Guinea-Pig-on-the-Chair)
DPxCSI (there is a first chapter that could be considered completed already posted. I had plans that I kinda forgot because they were never fleshed out. I think it involved a serial killer getting his/her hands on a ghost artifact)
DPxHP (final name "Harry Potter and the Witch With no Memory". Got some chapters posted, but again, my brain not only forgot the end goal to it, but there was so much useless stuff planned. On hiatus until I get inspired to sort this disaster out)
Dust (fic supposed to be the continuation of a game called "Dust: An Elysian Tail". Was mostly a spur of the moment that eventually dwindled away due to lack of enough lore to get it going)
Outlaws (Ladybug fic where she and Cat Noir are thieves. Dwindled away after first season ended)
Bho (rc9gn fic dealing with Randy dealing with nightmares after something horrible went down. Never decided on what)
Bof5xhttyd (supposed crossover between the game Breath of Fire (main character is a boy that can turn into a dragon) and how to train your dragon. Still in planning stage)
Broken Mask (rc9gn in which Randy is stuck in the ninja suit even when he takes the mask off)
Celeste01 (original story. I don't even remember where I was trying to go with this)
eee (something about Ladybug and Fantasy world)
HPxLoz (Harry Potter and Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask crossover in which Link stumbles into HP world and end up being dragged into a conflict that is not his)
One Strange Partnership (DP x Hero Academia crossover in which Danny is a vigilante and ends up teaming with Aizawa. One chapter is out and for now is considered complete despite me having further ideas about it)
rc9gnxDp (Randy ends up falling into a portal to the Shadow Lands, gets pushed at the wrong turns and ends up into the Ghost Zone)
Slipping Control (Ladybug fic about the main characters being overworked and slipping into their hero persona as civilians)
Static Shock (does anyone even remember this cartoon? Fic supposed to be dealing with hopping dimensions after a bad guy that can just do that)
EDIT: of course I’d forget to tag people. So... consider yourself tagged if you wish!

What do you think the new sonic cartoon is about
There’s not really a lot of news yet, yeah?
My hope... is that it’s either by the Japanese team who made Sonic X (hopefully a continuation) or following the train of reboots, it’s either Sonic Boom or Sonic X remastered something XP
I’m hoping it’s not a ‘entirely new thing’ UNLESS it’s based in the realm of actual canon.
SOA posted that “everything is canon” thing and it really ticks me off sometimes how they follow a trend that is fading, about keeping everything so unserious, but I’m over here with the Japanese GIANTIC lore fountain like-
Tumblr media
Oh hey y’all, SOA, did you know SOJ-
Tumblr media
HAS ACTUAL CANON LORE???? -There is so many quotes I want to write but due to having NO ACTUAL IMAGES of some of these stated I’ll simply write-
BUT NOT THIS LORE:
Tumblr media
Don’t let America tell Japanese Hedgehog lore, okay? They don’t get the culture sometimes and it leads to really bad rewrites of the Sonic characters and storylines--Just ask their creators, get the facts, it’s not that hard, SOA PLEASE there IS canon lore and it’s so good and underdeveloped because no one goes back and expounds upon it like-
Half your villains never return
Your casts doesn’t age or go through actual character building drama
Your stage building is great, why not add exploratory mechanics like they knew they should do in SA1 and SA2? Heck, Even Sonic Heroes and Unleashed had moments to go explore.
You’re not Mario, so quit advertising to younger audiences and realize that kids like to watch what their older siblings are into, we want actually compelling content please!
Sorry, I went off, I just know there's so much potential if you just took the time to go back, research/re-learn it, and develop from there. It doesn’t need to be as complicated as Kingdom Hearts, just BUILD FROM WHAT YOU HAVE DONE. It’s so simple. Zelda has an official timeline, doesn’t always make sense, but Sonic has something similar and even the creators have stated that Classic Sonic is from his own universe and isn’t young Sonic of the past. Do you know what that means???
You can have Modern Sonic diving into his actual past to stop someone from taking over, you could have a Sonic X cartoon showing what happened after Cosmo and going into further games that released just like when they did those arc specials for when SA1&2 were a thing, what about a feature that simply shows Sonic’s world and his adventures and his friends and a big evil they’ve encountered previously, I don’t know--NEO METAL SONIC? But this time, Neo has a new way to rebel, and it’s shown that he’s ALSO separate from Classic Metal Sonic who still serves Eggman?
I mean, pitch some things to Japan and word it in a way that works with their culture and CANON Sonic Lore, It’s so easy to make a new thing, new character, yadda yadda, but what makes a TRUE skill and marketable franchise is taking what is already there and building a firm establishment on it.
Pokemon. Pokemon has evolved but never forgotten the basics. (Pun intended)
If you want to be like any other franchise that is THE one to think about.
What are their shows like? Introducing a time-old favorite or new pokemon to add to your ‘pokedex’ which you have been building upon since the start.
How to make that a Sonic Cartoon thing..?
Every few episodes, you introduce another time-favorite CANON character. They have a few episodes and arcs SPECIFICALLY to re-introduce, re-live background, and then SHOW real developmental change and progression, then a few episodes later you couple that with them reappearing and having some significance in the over-arching theme.
Example? Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy are the main casts.
This one episode, they say goodbye to Team Chaotix (who will return for a significant role later) after having their few episodes arc of their team, who they are, and what they do before they suddenly meet and are introduced to Shadow (who they already know but the audience -if younger- might not until now) and the episode is showing G.U.N after Shadow. We realize Shadow’s past with Maria and G.U.N, and realize that G.U.N are being manipulated by a higher power. Enter the puppet master role of Black Doom which further explains the story of Shadow The Hedgehog after SA2. Then we have his arc after a few episodes and the team are ready to say goodbye to him as well before he drops a plot hint that ties him into the season finale as well, which means we’ll see him again. In that arc, we see him develop from what he once was, to what he was when the team found him again, and finally to what he is now... it shows that he’s still a growing character and by the end of the season arc, we see his ‘new form’ and ranged characterization from a fully rounded character arc that was perfectly executed in the main plot dynamic arc.
POKEMON. Introduce a character, have a specific few episodes of character growth with that character, and have them appear again to reinforce said characterization growth.
If you really need a new thing, and not a reboot, just let me pitch a few concepts and I’m SURE we’ll have a successful BRANDED feature for you. It’s only a matter of time before Sonic is taken seriously enough again by the company to have a massive Sonic BOOM in popularity and satisfying media. I just want to hopefully contribute if I can...
Yes, not very neutral writing, but I’ve seen a lot of ‘call to arms’ writing recently and I kinda jumped on that bandwagon, so if this is unprofessional, I AM A HUMAN WITH EMOTIONS AND SONIC NEEDS, GRAB YOUR SWORDS, YOUR BOWS, AND YOUR POETIC PROSE CAUSE ITS ACTION TIME PEOPLE.
Seen and not heard, is now heard and please be seen T-T

Weirdest crossover you’ve seen someone actually make work:
Um... There was this once crossover I read that was a massive crossover of all the Cartoon Network properties in the world of RWBY but instead of it being a straight crossover, it used the general concepts and it was really good.
The author knew what they were doing, knew material from both fandoms, and did their research. The only thing I didn't like about it was the length. The last time I checked it was over 200 chapters and I stopped reading it after a while and I got lost. But the story is really good.
I think it's still on FFN but unfortunately, I don't remember the title.
Another crossover that is weird but hilarious and is basically a crackfic, is a massive Legend of Zelda crossover titled Dimensional Links. It's basically a time travel fic but uses a lot of tropes, memes, and more. It's hilarious and even makes fun of itself. I guess you can also call it satire. But, I have been following this fic since I first read it, and is currently in the rewrite phase. Even if you have no clue what's going on, it's a fun read and a strange crossover.
