I love how much of FSN is because of the choices of other people that came before the characters, and I wonder if there’s anything to say about that and the fact that the people that fight in the series are Heroic Spirits from long in the past.

Like, you have Shirou who’s dealing with the legacy that his father left to him, the ideals of Kiritsugu, and what he chooses to do with that ideal.

You have Rin, who is constantly trying to live up to what is expected of her as a magus, how that leads to her closing off her emotions.

And because of those closed off emotions, Sakura comes to think Rin hates her, Rin is so closed off, and she never shows her feelings, which in turn leads to Sakura interpreting this as Rin hating her.

And I feel like it’s easy to argue that Sakura only went down such a dark path in Heaven’s Feel because of that. If Rin was more emotionally open, somehow showed her love for Sakura in a way she could recognize, I think Sakura wouldn’t have lost herself.

I’m not blaming Rin here, though. I’m blaming the mage psychology that she was raised on, that Tokiomi raised her on. Rin definitely needed to grow past that, but it’s not her fault she turned out so emotionally constipated, a lot of it is based on how she was raised.

And Sakura isn’t to blame for misinterpreting, either. What Zouken did to her, basically taking away any kind of hope or happiness from her, that’s not going to leave you in a good state. So I feel like it’s natural she’d view Rin’s actions in a negative light if she’s in a negative state of mind.

Then there’s how Illya is doomed to die because of the actions of the Einzbern family, the actions that people long dead decided on. Not to mention how they got her to believe Kiritsugu abandoned her, leading her antagonism and hatred towards Shirou at the start.

Like, everything that happens in FSN happens because of the actions of the three families. Both in the case of creating the war itself, and in the case of what they told their children, how they treated them.

And all the families are essentially gone, they’re completely gone and don’t have to deal with the fallout of their actions, leaving it all to their kids to deal with.

I mean, Kirei is there fucking shit up, too. But he’s just kind of an added bonus.

I’m kinda insecure about one of my f/o’s because, 1. He’s a teenager (and I’m an adult), and 2. He’s kind of a meme character. I’m worried people will think I ship myself with him as a joke, but I’m not. I really, really like him!

This is the Internet and it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks ever.

Well that's my go to response anyway, but I do understand the hesitation, especially with a canon minor character, feels like you gotta dance around certain people for that, and it makes the whole thing feel kinda exhausting. Though I'll say, it's probably not as scary as you think it is, it's easy to fall into this hole on the internet that if you make even the slightest misstep people will scream for your head, but it's really not that bad, I promise. Maybe I'm just lucky though, or off most people's radar.

The other half though, the worry people think you're self shipping with them as a joke? Honestly, if people think that, it's probably fine all things considered? Like I get it kinda sucks not being taken seriously, kinda hurts, but at the end of the day your F/O knows you're serious, and you know you're serious, and that's what matters.

Every character is someone's unironic Fictional Other. There are people out there who'd unironically want to Marry Shrek, or Nagito Komeda, or Sans Undertale and the Oncler together. And like!!! Good For Them!!! I love that for them!!! Shrek and Sans love them back!!

So if you're comfortable with it, take a deep breath, and love loud.

What does Roche's fate mean for the lore?

*spoilers for FF7 Rebirth*

So yeah Roche becomes a Sephiroth Clone. Gets the black cloak and all that.

But... how?

We see 'SC4' for the tattoo and Hojo experiment on him, so that means that he was given S Cells and became a Sephiroth Clone right?

But that's not quite how it works.

Remember Zack was supposed to be a Sephiroth Clone too. But due to being a SOLDIER he wasn't affected by the S Cells and was deemed a failure.

The procedure to become a SOLDIER is said to be more or less the same than the procedure to make a Sephiroth Clone, according to Cloud in FF7 after he remembers his real memories. But yeah SOLDIERS get injected and exposed with mako and Jenova Cells and then the strong become SOLDIERS.

I don't know if it's J Cells or S Cells specifically that gets used in the SOLDIER procedure, but I found this in the wiki and it implies it being S Cells.

*In Junon during Final Fantasy VII the player can talk to an old man in the top floor of a shop who remarks he used to be in SOLDIER. It is unknown what rank or member he was, but later in the game he starts to wear a cape, similar to Sephiroth-clones, stating that he got a sudden urge to dress that way. This hints at SOLDIER members being given Jenova cells as well as mako infusion. In Final Fantasy VII Remake, the kids in the Sector 5 slums mention that the ill robed man that has wandered there used to be a SOLDIER.* -SOLDIER FF7 Wiki.

So I guess if given enough time, SOLDERS become Sephiroth clones, with those with a weaker aptitude for mako and/or Jenova being the first to lose themselves. This being a typical SOLDIER'S type of degradation.

(Angeal and Genesis's degradation is different due to them having G Cells)

But despite Zack being experimented on and probably given a lot of S Cells, he didn't turn into a Sephiroth clone and was unaffected. Hojo himself on the reports says it's due to him being a SOLDIER.

So how I interpret it is that Zack's body has already adapted to the S Cells he already had. Jenova is adaptive and can mutate like that. So when he got more S Cells, the news ones just adapted and copied what the S Cells in his body was already doing instead of what it's supposed to do in a subject that doesn't have pre-existing Cells in them, like the survivors of Nibelheim or Cloud.

Basically the added S Cells are reprogrammed to be like SOLDIER variation and not the puppet Sephiroth Clone variation.

Maybe if Zack lived longer he would of would slowly degradated, but I assume it would of taken years for that to happen.

So how did Roche degrade so quickly and become a Sephiroth Clone?

Well... what did Hojo recently learn?

That Sephiroth Clones and the cells can fuse to create better monsters. And that Cloud is subconsciously heeding the call of Reunion.

What if Hojo is fusing samples together to see if they become more effective?

Roche does have 'SC' on his arm. So S is for Sephiroth and C is for Cloud, that's what I think anyways. (Also if Hojo had some Sephiroth samples he had left in the Manor, then he definitely has some in Midgar. He also probably has samples of Cloud despite him being a failure. It would be bad science to discard it even if it failed.)

And somehow the fusion of both, was able to create a type of Cell that can now degrade SOLDIERS in a manner of days or hours.

(I guess this also ties in that plot line from Crisis Core about Zack's S Cells are worthless, but Cloud's aren't and Genesis needed those Cells to try and fix himself. Remember 'No way he just ate my hair'? Now I'm curious if Cloud's Cells would of actually cured Genesis, or would he of become a Sephiroth Clone? Hmm...)

But yeah...

If you're not too busy, would you mind listing some of the things you think count as death flags for Mr. Spender?

There's the obvious fact that he's the "old" mentor to group of young protagonists, but what else do you think would count?

OHH BOY ok so I'd think I'm a crackpot for this but since we're talking about Zack "Foreshadowing" Morrison. I have some thoughts

No harm in leading with the (chronologically) first thing that jumped out at me:

This one IMMEDIATELY made me antsy whenever I came back to it after my initial read, and considering Zack has referred to it on twitter in the past as one of their favorite jokes it's definitely not been forgotten about.

Second, the sheer amounts of near-misses, jokey or not, of Spender narrowly avoiding specifically lightning

Again, not much, but it's weird that it happened thrice, latter two of which had real gravitas rather than an one-off joke.

And third, Spender himself. He's repeatedly shown himself to be kind of a self sacrificing idiot, as well as prideful to a fault. Granted, it's both him and Mina trying to take on all the responsibility of saving Mayview and its inhabitants from their fate.. But Spender is exactly that right measure of doesn't-value-himself-enough (chest footprint aftercare or lack thereof), having an obscene amount of power (enables his loner act + pride) and poor judgement that has the capacity to put him at great risk. And it has!

Spender has not only shown low enough self-esteem to view himself as the de-facto scapegoat for the safety of the town, but also prideful enough to make very bad calls that end up in people, often himself, hurt (COUGH FORGE INCIDENT COUGH)

This is all conjecture, but it's definitely enough to make me worried about him :') Even if all this doesn't mean he'll necessarily die he's definitely getting (even more) seriously injured at some point. I love the guy but he's so far doing a horrible job of convincing me he wants to live bad enough to circumvent at least that

Saw something on Twitter that asked what the point of Genesis was; whether people liked his character or tolerated him. They suggested that he was badly used as an interesting character and I just want to throw my two Gil in here.

To me Genesis is perfectly used in Crisis core but you have to understand what his role is in mythology/alagorical sense to truely appreciate him. I am not trying to be pretentious when I say that I’m genuinely meaning it.

Genesis isn’t just the Loveless obsessed mini boss. There is actual depth to his character. However, his characterisation confuses a lot of people because it’s different from others.

Genesis at the core of his characterisation (and goddess knows it would inflate his ego if his character had been made that self aware.) acts as one of the fates. He is prophet, death bringer and actualiser. He recites the prophesy [Loveless] and brings about the events of FFvii.

Loveless cannot be read as anything other than a prophesy. It just can’t. You just need to listen to all of the lines that are vocalised to know that:

“When the war of the beast brings about worlds end, the goddess descends from the sky, wings of light and dark spread afar she guides us to bliss her gift everlasting.”

Arguably this stanza references the war in Wuti and the creation of Genesis, Angeal and Sephiroth. “Wings of dark and light” references quite literally their own singular mutations that spring forth as a black wing (Genesis) and a white wing (Angeal and Sephiroth). It then goes on to highlight their ascension into their life stream. This is simply the prologue.

The mistake everyone makes is assuming that the poem is simply talking about the three firsts. It’s not. It is dually talking about the trinity and Seph, cloud and Zack.

“Infinite in mystery is the gift of the goddess. We seek it thus and take to the sky. Ripples from on the waters surface the wandering soul knows no rest.”

This part of Act one refers to both Sephiroth and Cloud. Sephiroth is the one in CC who is wandering lost without a home nor a family. His friends have deserted him, and he is alone. By FFvii this is Cloud. He quite literally cannot catch a brake.

The “ripples from the waters surface” surface is the reflection of the two stories. It is the distortion of Sephiroths identity as the hero he has been trained to be into the monster he becomes. It is also the distortion of clouds own identity as his mind is broken and takes on someone else’s identity.

“Three friends go to battle, one is captured, one flies away, the one that is left becomes a hero”

Captured =Angeal and Zack

flies away = Genesis and Sephiroth

Becomes a hero = Sephiroth and Cloud

Angeal is captured more or less in modeoheim and dies. While Zack is quite literally is captured by Hojo with Cloud and dies as a result of that captivity. Arguably Zack was never free.

Genesis was the one who flew away from Sinra and from Nibleheim. He fled before he can behold the consequences of his actions. He his arguably the lynch pin for every major development in crisis core. Had he not challenged Sephiroth; had he not gotten hurt and been unable to heal then nothing that transpired would have happened. Had Genesis not revolted; had he not taunted Sephiroth the plot would never have come to the conclusion it did.

Sephiroth is also the one who flies away in therms of the main FFvii plot because he disappears after Nibleheim, he is the antagonist in a very similar way to Gen in CC. He appears every now and then to fuck up Clouds day and had he not been hurt by Cloud non of what happens in FFvii would transpire because it is that moment that puts Cloud at the forefront of Sephs mind. It is that moment that interests Hojo enough to experiment on Cloud and connect him to Sephiroth via the J-cells.

And then there is the hero left behind. Simply put, Genesis and Angeal leave Sephiroth to become the hero. They make villains of themselves and Leave Shinras golden boy behind to clean up their mess. And when sephiroth dies Shinra immortalises him by reporting that he died a hero. We know this because Aeirth literally states it in FFvii when cloud asked her if she knows who he is and she answers that he was a war hero that died five years previous.

Cloud by comparison is the one left by ALL of them to become a hero. Zack is dead, Sephiroth is now the villain, Genesis and Angeal own deaths impact so much of Clouds own story that they doubly place a burden of expectation upon him. Cloud literally carried all of their dreams and Honour around with him as he uses the Buster sword.

But I digress. Without analysing the entire play (at least the parts we have) you can see from what I have looked at above that Loveless isn’t just some poem; It’s a prophesy.

And Genesis being the one to speak this Prophesy is significant because he is quite literally the lynch pin for all of it. Like I said, had he not been hurt then events would have progressed differently.

I’m not saying he is the most important character of the story. He’s absolutely not; that is Cloud. But he’s not unimportant, nor is he just there. He is one of the most interesting plot devices FFvii has in my opinion.

Because he is quite literally the mouth piece of Minerva. He is a fate of the gods. He is past present and future, and he serves as the narrator at the beginning of the Shakespeare play to profess “two houses both alike in dignity.”

Genesis isn’t nothing. He is a walking Oman of death and destiny.

Now thinking about my last post. Let's talk a little about this version of You. (for context and better understanding the fic i suggest reading the first part, of course, it's optional, feel Free to do as You wish as i put some Main explinations on this fic as well)

Now, clearly someone that lost all of their close one (and not on accident but because of the need to protect them) would be rather skitish. You hold the biggest secret of humanity, the secret that hey, You are the mastermind behind it all and You took powers from everyone (made them unable to use them by making them forget they exist), You just lost your best friend because of the need to protect them. You would clearly be stand offish, maybe even skitish like a cat . I mean, who wouldn't knowing that there isn't a way for them to lower their powers and if they did lower them, everyone would get the powers that were killing them back. So Yes, i amagine this version of You to be more quiet, or maybe not quiet, but to prefer to be alone, to mourn in silence the lost of their kind, knowing they are at fault for it

So that's when the yandere's come, and there are 3 posibilities of how it would go

IT starts as a curiosity, a need to see if You are a worthy or not. They watch over You like a hawk and they can't help but feel something in their chest as they look at You. At how You continue to live your life as if nothing happened and how everyone seems to ignore the way your eyes gloss from time to time or how your lower lip quivers when You see something reminding You of your old friend or about what You did to them

Maybe they felt pity for You, maybe they were trying to understand You more, maybe they were happy that a being like You was alone. Alone and easy to captureze. They can't remember when this curiosity turned into obssesion

IT became a habit, to talk You, to know about your daily life as if it was theirs. It was entertaining for them. It was refreshing for them to watch over You, over your grief of a lost life, and they were content living like this, at least for now.

Sooner or later things of yours Will start to dissapear or be moved around your house and You would find flowers and love letters written in blood. Letters explaining their adoration and how jealous they are of the friend that pleagues your mind and heart, saying that it isn't fair for them to sicken your state when they were supposed to do it, to be the reason You can't sleep at night

This letters Will grow crazier and crazier, until one day You see them in your living room, your friend's mangled body next to them as they dedicate this piece of art in your name

You were so cute in their eyes. So hurt and vulnerable after realising You had no one left. They of course noticed the way your voice would quiver or how You would refuse contact with anyone. You were simply adorable. And they needed to know more about You. EVERYTHING about You and your way of thinking bacause You showed them You weren't dumb, You showed them that You didn't fall easily into their open net as they expected. They loved it. They forgot about their plan to use You very fast and instead just wanted your love, wanted You to sorrow over them like You did after your friend

They become intoxicated with the tought of having You lean on them after they found out every small detail that You couldn't hide about your existente, yet they wanted more, needed more.

They Will manipulate You with their sweet words, get You to tell your story and they Will listen with such interest as if they Will engrave every word You just uttered into their skin. They needed to know everything, as if it hurt them not to. They would replay everything You told them, over and over, until it was impragnated in their very own soul

Of course, You are somehow human, You need conections with the outside so they use that fact to trap You. To pull you in their obsessive hold where You won't ever escape

One word : devotion

That's what You can read when You look into their eyes.

They related to You, to how lonely You felt, they hated seeing You mourn for someone else. They hated the fact that they didn't know much about You and how skitish You were. You were an entity, a God, in their eyes. The reason they were put on this earth was to be in your presence.

They are like animals. Wild and dangerous ones that will claw out the eyes of everyone that comes to closer to You, they are ready to bite and break, to hurt and destroy anything to get their goal. To get to You.

No one is safe. They are the worst ones to have in your giving time. Not only would they torture your friend and any other being that You ever took the powers out of, but they Will do it and proundly procleim that now you're only theirs, that your heart only belongs to them . It's most likely that while they kill and dispose the bodies of "normal ones" the ones that are like You will be trophies, your friend the most precious one.

They'll lick at every wound You ever had that is healed or freshly made, they Will drink your blood as if it gives them Power to live. In your name, they do anything.

I feel like I want to talk about the heroines of each route in FSN and the effect they have on Shirou’s ideals.

Like, Saber is put in front of Shirou as basically a mirror. Someone who holds his ideals so he can see how self-destructive they are and actually recognize that part of himself, so he doesn’t turn out like Archer.

Even if he still goes down that path, he still was able to realize this about himself before it happened, rather than just be left for regrets his entire life.

Archer is put in front of him in UBW to actually physically challenge his ideal, to show where it leads for him specifically, what kind of life awaits him at the end of everything.

So when he finally decides to stand by his ideals and defeats Archer, he knows what he’s walking into, he knows what it all means if he ends up at that path, just a murderer for the planet.

And Sakura is put in front of Shirou in Heaven’s Feel. Someone that he cares about and wants to save, but can’t. He can’t just save her by taking her away from danger, another life he was able to save for his ideal.

By trying to save her, he’s sacrificing so many more lives, so he’s not living by those ideals. She represents something that’s completely incompatible with his ideals, which is what he needs to completely break away from them.

It’s not that he loves her so much that he’s willing to throw away his ideals, it’s that she represents someone that he can’t save with those ideals. And if he can’t save those close to him, what use are ideals like that?

And I absolutely love how all three routes show different aspects like this.

༻❁༺ Cloud’s Struggle To Make Sense of Your Presence

As Cloud and his group traveled away from Midgar, he found himself reflecting back on the intense battle with Sephiroth.

Truth be told, maybe Cloud really did know who you are all along. Sephiroth forced his knowledge of you to come to the surface.

Maybe he shoved his emotions for you deep down, trying to shield the pieces of himself that have been broken?

He suffered, yet you weren't responsible for his suffering. You stood by him, encouraging his growth and development.

What would be an unbelievable surprise to anyone, strangely provided Cloud with a sense of security…

Cloud still doesn't know this but as the game went on, your input was slowly rebuilding his mind, bit by bit.

While he still relied on his crafted Zack-inspired persona, he began to feel more comfortable, and his real personality began to shine through as he talked to secondary characters and grew closer to the other main characters of the game.

Whenever the camera focused on Cloud up close, he could see you, yet he remained expressionless. His subconscious mind wondered how you felt about him.

You're embodying him as your own character, aren't you? It's like you forgot about your own identity, concentrating on the part you are playing.

Unknowingly, Cloud's subconscious is working to shield him from this revelation. He only considers you a powerful force, capable of controlling the course of fate, not the fact that you are embodying him.

You came back to FF7 Remake after a few days of completing it. You decide to replay through some chapters with the end game progress you had. You're happy to see Cloud again.

The sound of Sephiroth's voice still echoes in Cloud's head, reminding him of their confrontation. And now Cloud is further back in time than before?

He clenches his fists and feels a newfound power. He felt unstoppable and unconquerable the next time he was in battle. But why must he be forced to relive the same events?

Maybe you are just another monster like Sephiroth. How could you make him suffer through all those negative feelings again?

But at the same time, he is stronger. He could fight with newfound strength to protect himself and his friends from danger better now.

He can make different decisions of what to say, what to do… It was oddly calming to practice different techniques on the same opponents he hated, he felt a sense of justice as they crashed to the ground.

Cloud will finally become the legendary hero that Zack he wanted always be...

Even in amusing moments, he did different things. Like wearing a different dress when he and his allies conspired to save Tifa that one time. Aerith had a different dress too that time as well. She seemed relaxed, and her motions looked comfortable, as if she had done this before…

He then remembered the words Aerith said to him, just before he had his confrontation with Sephiroth... Is she aware of you too?

Whenever he seems to think of you, Aerith gives him a gentle, lingering look.

༻❁༺ Cloud, the Flower Girl and the Playmaker

Aerith could always sense your presence too, it's like a warm sensation to her. When she found out her fate, the first thing she noticed was you.

She was so grateful to you for getting her to meet Cloud and everyone else… Especially for all the help you gave to the party.

Knowing her time was limited with her loved ones, she quietly accepted her eventual fate… But she holds onto the faint glimmer of hope that maybe this time, you can make a difference.

Deep inside, she was scared at the prospect of death; She wants to live. But he must be stopped. As it was Sephiroth's duty to subjugate the planet, it was Aerith's duty to protect it.

That's why she didn't even tell Cloud about you, even though she knows he can sense you as well. He should've, while they were out picking flowers for the first time.

All of the tender words of support she said to Cloud and the party were meant for you as well. Crisis can bring about Miracles, if you are willing to look for them.

As he strolled around the Midgar slums, Cloud wondered if he should confront Aerith about you, especially in the moments of calm.

But the ramifications frighten him. What if Sephiroth appears again? What if the Arbiters of Fate interfere?

He saw Aerith, her eyes closed and her hands resting on her lap as she knelt on the ground. As soon as he opened his mouth to speak, she began a whispered prayer.

Let the words of those who provide you with aid and a way forward fill you with peace."…

Cloud fixed his mako eyes upon her, his gaze wide and inquisitive. How did she-

His broken mind still questions if you are a friend or foe… But now he knows that it's possible to have a relationship with you without being enemies.

Aerith's earth green eyes sparkled as her quick prayer finished, her eyes narrowing in intensity.

Connecting with Cloud will help her form a closer bond with you. She wants to ensure you and Cloud stay on the right path.

Maybe… This time, things could be different. But if they aren't… You will still be there, urging Cloud and his party onward with your unwavering presence as they search for the salvation of the planet.

Even after her death, Aerith's love and support will linger around them, providing any aid she can give. You three can create a brighter future, together.

18-year-old Elaine Nix lived with her family in Gainesville, Georgia. She loved frogs and aspired to be a mother and a nurse one day. Standing at just 5 feet 2 inches tall, those who knew her said she was a spitfire. “She had a very charismatic way about her. She could walk into a room and light it up without saying anything,” recalled her friend, Jennifer Boyd.

At around 11PM the 20th of September, 1999, Elaine pulled on a white t-shirt, khaki pants and blue and white gym shoes and left her suburban home to drive the short distance to Zack’s Food Rack, located at 2052 Candler Road in Gainesville.

Elaine would frequently drive here so that she could she could use the pay phone to talk to her boyfriend, Billy Milwood. Since Billy lived in Cleveland with his mother, Elaine couldn’t use her home phone to call him because long distance in the Nix household was blocked. When one month’s bill totaled $75, Elaine’s mother, Becky, had the phone company to block all long-distance calls. “For 35 cents she could use that pay phone and talk to him for as long as she wanted,” Becky said. “We have to live on a budget.”

So at around 11PM on that fateful night, Elaine drove to the pay phone where she and Billy chatted about going camping. It was routine for her. After around an hour on the phone, Elaine told Billy she loved him and hung up. This phone call was corroborated with phone records.

What happened after she hung up that phone remains a grim mystery.

A couple of hours later, at around 2AM, a deputy on patrol found Elaine’s 1986 Toyota Celica parked next to the pay phone she had been using at Zack’s Food Rack. The car window was rolled down and the key was still in the ignition but there was nobody to be seen. The officer thought nothing of it and continued with his night-time patrol.
