So one of my go-to favorite games whenever DC creates a new adaptation of their stuff is to imagine how I'd work my favorite characters into that new world. Or, on the off chance my favs are actually introduced into that world, how I'd adapt or work in some of their best stories. So while I may have mostly lost interest in the Young Justice cartoon, I still sometimes kick around my idea for a potential origin story for its version of Tim Drake.

It would be set around the era of the first season, when the series was at its best, maybe a few months after the whole thing with the Light went down. It'd start with Dick getting picked up from Gotham Academy early for some training thing, so he's alone outside the school waiting for Alfred to pick him up when, all of a sudden, a certain black-haired, blue-eyed child from the elementary school rushes up and grabs onto him, begging for help.

He's being pursued by two men in suits who are very deliberately *not* running as they demand Dick hand the kid over, insisting that they're here to pick him up for his parents. Kid says they're lying -- "My parents aren't even in the country and they're not my nannny." -- and Dick of course believes him. He pulls a fast one as Alfred pulls up, grabbing the kid and leaping with him into the back of the limo, shouting at Alfred to floor it; he does, and they leave the shouting goons in the dust.

In the aftermath, the naturally freaked-out kid starts crying, and when Dick tries to soothe him by telling him he's safe he says he knows -- he knew Dick would help him "'cause you're Robin."

From there it comes out that the kid is of course Tim and what he knows about Dick and how, which all pretty much lines up with canon. From there the story turns into a mystery about the disappearance of Jack and Janet Drake on their latest dig -- they were supposed to call Tim two days ago and they might travel all the time but they never miss their call-ins -- and then these strangers showed up trying to take Tim out of school with forged permission slips from his parents so something's definitely up.

Dick initially calls in just Wally for support (Tim of course pegs him as KF immediately), though the rest of the team gets called in once they put together what's actually going on: Jack and Janet have been kidnapped by some international organized crime group who are holding them for ransom. The D.I. board intends to simply not pay the ransom, let said criminals murder the Drakes, and disappear Tim so the company will be split between the board members instead. So the Team heads out on a rescue mission, with Dick leaving a distraught Tim with Alfred and promising him they're going to bring his parents home -- though unfortunately it goes bad and Dick falls just short of rescuing the pair from whatever poisoning/electric/super-science death-trap they've been placed in.

In a twist on canon, Jack is the one who dies in this timeline and Janet survives. The question of how Tim became Robin is answered by a flash-forward -- years later, when Dick is Nightwing and it's implied to be just after Jason dies in the line of duty, a now-teenage Tim meets up with Dick in a dinner, having stayed a close friend for all these years, and tells him he wants to volunteer -- he's been training all this time, and he truly believes that there needs to be a Robin both to help Batman and to save "people like me." He wins Dick over and the rest is history.

So, yeah. Bit of a rambling summary but I've got a few really strong detailed scenes in mind and then long stretches of pfffffffft.

With Icicle Jr and Artemis both being in this YJ episode I desperately need non-comics fans to know that in the comics they are married. Like, the comics villain Tigress and the comics villain Icicle Jr are a couple. They had a baby together.

Fictober Day Nineteen

Prompt: #18 “I don’t think this is your problem.” Fandom: Young Justice (TV) Characters: Artemis Crock, Jason Todd Rating: PG

Artemis spotted Robin by chance as he darted across the opening of an alleyway. He seemed to be looking for something, peering into every doorway he passed, doubling back on his path. He stayed in the shadows, clinging to the sides of buildings as he went from alley to alley, but he didn't disappear into them. Not the way Dick would have. She wondered where Batman was. The kid had only been Robin for a few months and this was the first time she'd seen him out on his own. She took to the roofs to follow him, keeping out of sight behind air vents and electric boxes, but though he looked over his shoulder often, he never looked up. God, surely they'd been more prepared than this?

He stopped in an alley, shoulders hunched, frustration and vulnerability obvious in his posture, so unlike Dick it was almost hard to think of him as Robin. He swore loudly and kicked a trashcan, and she made up her mind.

Robin tensed as soon as she rattled onto the fire escape, looking up with fists clenched, but he must have recognized her - maybe Dick was right about the hair - because he neither fought nor fled as she jumped down.

"Artemis," she said once she had got to the ground, extending her hand with a smile.

Robin folded his arms and ignored it. "Obviously. What do you want?"

"You OK?"

"I'm fine," Robin said sharply, turning away from her to start poking his toe through the trash piled up by the walls. It was such an obvious, childish dismissal that she rolled her eyes.

"Are you sure?" Artemis asked despite the frustration.

"I don't think this is your problem," Robin snapped, and then, with a swirl of cape, he was up the fire escape and away. Artemis sighed.

"I guess Batman picks them for the drama," she muttered. She considered leaving him to it, knowing that pushing too hard could make it worse, but every bit of their interaction had screamed that he wanted help but just couldn't ask for it.

Robin had a headstart, but her legs were longer, and she caught up to him two roofs over. "Robin, wait!" she shouted.

He stopped, shouting, "leave me alone!" over his shoulder but not running away again.

"Are you sure you don't want help?"

"Yes! Why do you even care?" It was so easy to read his expression, even with the mask, and the disbelief on it was enough that she knew she'd made the right decision.

She shrugged. "That's what the Team is for."

"This isn't a Team mission. It's Batman stuff."

"So?" she said, almost laughing at the skeptical look on his face. "Seriously, you think I've never helped Nightwing with his missions?"

That hit some kind of nerve; Robin looked up at her for a second, then immediately down as if he was afraid of what she might see on his face. "I get it," she said softly. "The whole needing to prove yourself thing? I promise you, I get it. But everyone needs help sometimes."

Robin muttered something she didn't catch, still staring at the ground, but she figured she could guess. He still wore the Robin suit like a costume, pulling at his gloves and fiddling with his cape.

"You think we won't believe in you, trust you, unless you prove yourself worthy of it. But you already are worthy, that's why you're on the Team. And if you want us to trust you, trusting us is the first step."

He looked up at her, meeting her eyes properly for the first time. "I was supposed to be following some mook," he said hesitantly. "But I lost him."

"Well," Artemis said, with a smile that he finally returned, "four eyes are better than two."

Klarion is on a mission. A very important mission of the utmost importance!

He, as the oldest of the family (at least sibling-wise) has been given the sacred task of bringing his baby siblings to find their own familiars! And nothing is going to stop him from seeing this task through! He’s not going to get distracted playing with the Justice League’s Baby Team, nor is he going to try and kick Stupid-Helmet-Head-The-Despised.

He’s going to help Jordan and Ellie find their own familiars, and Phantom-Dad will be so proud of him! Tucker-Dad will be proud too, and his Moms would as well! He’s going to absolutely rock this older-sibling thing!

The generational progression of team dynamics is truly so funny to me.

You have the Justice League and they're all coworkers. They're friendly and polite with each other but they don't really hang out together outside of work. Two of them might transcend the work friend dynamic and buddy up outside of work (i.e Barry and Hal or Ollie and Hal or Bruce and Clark) but you will never see all of them casually hanging out for fun.

Then there's the Titans. These guys are friends. They all have busy lives so they maybe don't see each other as much as they'd like to but they're all deeply bonded with each other. They make a point of planning big get togethers with each other unrelated to work. They know each other's deepest secrets. Their kids consider the other Titans aunts and uncles.

Last but not least there's Young Justice. Young Justice is the definition of unhealthy codependency. They're all best friends and they act like siblings but they might also all be in love with each other? Kon dated Cassie, hit on Cissie, flirted with Bart's clone and had a dream where Bart was in a cheerleading outfit and was with his other love interests and then just everything with Tim. Cassie dated both Tim and Kon, and then there's everything with Cissie. Bart admitted that Cassie made him 'like girls' (?), took Cissie to a dance, and is extremely close with Tim and Kon to the point where it could just be unhealthy codependency but it might be something more. Honestly this entire group is so intermixed and codependent it's insane. They go from 'i love you so much you are my best friend' to 'i wanna make out with you' so fast and with barely any breathing room. They are constantly with each other and hang out at least once a week. They cannot exist separately.

#the Justice League is so funny to me because theres hal and barry who are actually friends and hang out together #and like ollie and hal #but the rest of them probably don't even know what each others favorite food is #they are there to do a job not to make friends #they are nice and polite because it is good for the work environment #then the Titans are just a realistic protrayal of friends #they have lives outside of each other and try to meet up frequently but sometimes life gets in the way #but they're still close and they still love each other #they're like high school friends who all moved away for university and see each other on summer break #then theres YJ who are like trauma bonded and cling to each other and are feral animals when separated #like seriously its unhealthy #its a fantastic dynamic to read and it makes sense for them but do not do this irl it is not a good actual dynamic #dc #dc comics #Titans #teen titans #justice league #young justice #young just us

Amusing to me that the Young Justice animated show gave Wally the same birthday (Nov 11th) as Dick’s pre-Crisis birthday, even though Wally also has a different, perfectly fine pre-Crisis birthday (Jan 16th) they could have used instead and it only would’ve required a few tweaks to work in the episode.

The Riddlers React to Reader Going to Bed Naked

Arkhamverse Riddler:

- Well, first things first he’s got to be willing to go to bed.

- You figured you could have an interesting surprise waiting for him when he finally gives into the sweet call of slumber.

- Edward doesn't notice at first–basically running on fumes as he gets under the covers.

- It isn't until he tries to get comfortable he notices.

- And he is extremely shocked.

- How–what–what's the logic behind this? This is ridiculous!

- He almost has half a mind to wake you up and demand you put and demand you put something on.

- Yet he somehow even feels too tired to even do that.

- Ed will deny it in the morning, but you cannot deny that he did enjoy nestling into your side and into your skin.

Reevesverse/Dano Riddler:

- Oh..uhh…oh wow…umm…is that really comfortable?

- Gotham can be unbearingly cold at night and his apartment doesn't have the best heater.

- Edward is still very new to this level of intimacy–

- His brain will go into overdrive, trying to figure out if you're trying to tell him something.

- Are-are you trying to initiate…what he thinks you are?

- As his head spins, his face is flushed red.

- Edward will try to work up the courage to ask what this is about.

- You will have to explain to him if you were teasing him or just trying a new sensation.

- Either way, he will understand or try to, just give him a heads up next time…you almost gave him a heart attack.

Gotham Riddler:

- Is that really comfortable? 2.0

- His whole pale face is as red as a ripe tomato.

- Eddie will likely assume you aren't feeling well…that…that's the only explanation.

- Are you getting chills? Are you overheating? Do you feel nauseous? Here let him take your temperature.

- You really can't help but laugh and find his concern incredibly endearing.

- Ed is relieved to hear you're fine, but is now back to surprise when he realizes you were just teasing him.

- What…what should he do? For once he kinda leans into his confident alter ego for guidance.

- Once you two get closer and he gets to feel the softness of your skin, he's immediately hooked.

- Eddie can't just have his hands touching you, he wants all of his skin touching your own.

BTAS Riddler:

- Man's face is as red as his hair.

- Well, well, well…this is um…quite the surprise.

- Where in the world did you get this idea?

- Eddie will try to keep a confident and collected aura about him.

- But he's absolutely quivering on the inside, his heart about to beat out of his chest.

- His eyes rake over your body, appreciatively, until you tore the covers from his hand and snuggle into the mattress as you tuck the comforter back underneath you.

- You tease him and say he can't see or touch until he joins you also naked.

- Well, who's he to turn down a deal like that?

- Eddie snatches the covers and hops into bed, quick to wrap you in his arms and kiss youwhich muffled your laughs.

Zero Year/Capullo Riddler:

- Oh my God fucking FINALLY

- As much as he does enjoy the occasional strip tease…

- Having you already naked makes it a gazillion times easier to get to the main event.

- I imagine this Ed only sleeps in his boxers (briefs)...(and question mark socks)

- So when he sees you naked he's very quick to discard his underwear.

- If you weren't trying to have sex by sleeping nude then…good luck trying to convince him otherwise.

- Or trying to get his hands off of you…like at all.

- But come on, were you really expecting anything less?

Telltale Riddler:

- Quirks an eyebrow.

- He's not sure if he's amused, confused, or annoyed.

- And you can't quite tell either at first.

- Of course not one to give in to your antics..

- He asks you plainly what you're doing and what you were expecting out of this “surprise”

- You shrug, maybe you wanted to catch him off guard, maybe you've been getting too hot cause he won't let you turn the ac on (cause if it's hitting anything below 80°F he claims to be freezing)

- Ed will either call your bluff and actually get into bed with you and not give you any attention…you will have to work for that.

- Or he'll tell you to put some clothes on or he won't share a bed with you.

- OR if you catch him on a particularly trying night he may just pounce immediately.

Young Justice Riddler:

- *blue screen of death*

- *dial up internet sounds*

- Most likely to genuinely have his nose slowly bleed.

- He's confused on what to do or how to respond.

- Like not that he doesn't…err…appreciate you letting him see you but…why?

- Also like Gotham Riddler and wonders if maybe you're overheating or not feeling well.

- When you tell him you just wanted to tease him, he's practically melting.

- Oh well, yeah you…you did very successfully.

- You'll likely have to drag him to bed with you and proceed to take off his clothes for him so he can join you properly.
