Can't stop thinking (again) about how the MHA world would deal with the Straw Hats and Luffy especially:
Socially labeled villain
Performs acts like a hero
Actively denies the label of hero
Motivated by personal and/or selfish means "I like you/you fed me/we're friends/others treading on your freedom and/or treasure"

thinking about how giving Zoro his named attacks in live action would be a bad idea. as he's literally holding something in his mouth.

Thinking more about Gear 5, and while I think it was very Looney Tunes in action (popping eyes, looseness), it doesn't look like actual Looney Tunes animation.
It's just the two times I've watched it, it feels like...very fast jello animation. Luffy takes a step and his whole ankle wriggles. If it was Looney Tunes it wouldn't be the lines that vibrate, it would be the motion that would exaggerate. Or with Fleischer the motion would just...look like the limbs don't have bones but like if a rubber hose was an arm. Again, the lines defining the shape wouldn't move/vibrate like it looks like it does sometimes in 1071.
None of this is good or bad btw. It's just me thinking too pedantically about animation. I love it a lot.
Or there's the option I don't remember Looney Tunes animation as well as I think. 😅

@tharrb said: I think all of the girls thought they where the third wheel
I think the girls each feared she was the third wheel.
I guess I’m not sure how much Sasha acknowledged she felt/thought that way; I feel Anne and Marcy may have been more aware of feeling/thinking that way? But basically yeah! Whether any of the three was a third wheel, all felt (whether acknowledged or not) that she was the expendable one (or a third wheel).

One Piece ch. 1067
Onward!
please don’t reply with any recent chapter 1068 raw spoilers (when do those come out anymore, anyway?); I generally I wait for the official English releases.
*Spoilers* for chapter 1067
Tumblr media
I feel Luffy asked valid questions? Where is his brain and if you cut out parts of it will that effect cognition in any way? I wouldn’t of phrased it the way he did but the question makes sense...?

Genuinely love not only the sci-fi vibes going on in One Piece but “the questionable scientist” Vegapunk with his whole: The knowledge we can gain for science outweighs ideology i.e. thinking of social and/or moral consequences.
The lack of concern about morality and about differences of opinion and how that will surely effect who has access and how it’s used; and coming from a Fishman adds a certain in-world weight to the question of ideology — whose belief will determine access and what’s right?
Classic sci-fi horror setup. I’m curious to see where this goes.
And beyond that, what about points of disagreement? What about divergences about what something means? Living thinking organisms can’t really escape ideology — this is the way things are “naturally” even if it’s all arbitrary; it will still have real effects. But whoop! That’s not science’s problem! It’s all about knowledge! What can be learned! 🤨 that’s what gets science into so much trouble; thinking knowledge is enough to counter the desire for power and how that’s knowledge is used.
Also: gonna say, whatever’s on Laugh Tale is related to the power source and it’s something that has to be grown.

For the longest time I've thought if you saw/read anything that consisted of:
fairy godmother, glass slippers, pumpkin into coach that would IMMEDIATELY equal Perrault's 1697 version
dead mother, birds, a golden slippers, cut off heels/toes that would IMMEDIATELY equal Grimms' version (1812 or later revisions)

If Sunny wins the ship battle poll I'd be curious how many of those votes were to reach a tie or because voters felt Sunnny should win.
I guess I mean, I'd like to think Sunny winning would be because that would have been the natural way people would have voted if one ship has to win instead of aiming for a tie.

Thinking about how the different central questions of MHA (what is a hero?) and One Piece (what is freedom?) effect tone and theme and expression of oppression & discrimination and realized One Piece is gonna overweigh MHA just by sheer content.
To wit: if you double how long MHA has been going it still wouldn’t have been out as long as One Piece was when MHA started OR One Piece was well past it’s timeskip when MHA started.

I think it's hilarious that the Disney-One Piece comparison that lives the strongest in my head is the Aladdin-Usopp one
Lies! Mom dying when young! Deemed local nuisance at introduction! Dad off to adventure! Insecurity over self-worth! I'm gnawing up at the walls about it still

Does anyone know why One Piece has a reputation for being exceptionally long when it almost never breaks the top ten in the lists I've looked at: longest still running* anime, longest still running manga by volume count/by chapter count/by initial publication? With the exception of still running anime at #9?
I thought number of chapters would do something but One Piece still came in at #13. On that, I also discovered to my surprise that JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is ten years older than One Piece and still an ongoing manga with 230-some volumes but waaay less chapters.
Basically there's degrees of difference, depending on what you're counting. But in terms of length One Piece never reaches the top five and rarely the top ten.
Is it because it's one cohesive story, with narrative and characters building up over 1000+ chapters and 20+ years??
*if I used longest in general One Piece is much much lower in these lists

So, ever since it was said that Anne returned in late autumn/early winter, I’ve been wondering: were she (and Sasha) at summer school?
Like, I pretty sure that’s wrong but it’d explain
Why Marcy wasn’t at school with them
How Anne can possibly return in Nov. and have a June birthday and still be in school. (Maybe school dates have changed since I was in middle school, but my birthday in late May was a hit or miss if I celebrated it during the school year. So I can’t imagine a June birthday being celebrated during th school year; well, I can but I don’t think California would have snow days. Unless schools just go that long nowadays.)
Would fit with Mr. Boonchuy’s feelings that Sasha is a bad influence
Would fit with what we learned in The Dinner, that Anne took the rap for the three skipping clsss
Would fit with Anne stating her mom doesn’t think she studies enough (maybe meaning she had mixed grades?)
Would fit with Anne’s clear lack of attention in class & dislike of teachers shown in Combat Camp
Could explain why that girl was a jerk to Anne at the beginning of Reunion + that guy playing music: it’s kids who have trouble in school for a variety of reason (not caring, not paying attention, disinterest, etc.)
Counter arguments:
Are there too many students?
Would summer school include frog dissection?

This is probably a pedantic detail that doesn’t matter but, far as I recall and I’ve watched it twice, when Luz and Lilith go back in time to find Phillip, he never confirms that’s his name. He doesn’t introduce himself and simply goes along with what the two call him, as if it is his name without revealing whether it is. I think because he was intentionally being deceitful is why the omission & agreeing to the narrative/perspective (e.g. name) Luz uses makes it stand out to me.
(I mean, it probably is, I just thought it odd he doesn’t confirm/admit that’s his name.)

A (little) breakdown of Anne’s return & birthday dates
What do we know:
It’s been 5 months. (I am calculating this as 145 days: 29d. X 5, mostly because my conclusions thst she was gone around 5m. at the maximum was derived from recording and counting the phases of the moon shown in Season 1 and 2)
Anne has been back 1 week in Adventures in Catsitting
Anne has been back an indefinite number of weeks in Olivia and Yunan
Froggy Little Christmas likely takes place on 24 December (I’m basing this on gift-giving)
There’s more referential details; I’m too tired to list everything (I’m not here for super intense analytics)
@inktog Here’s my rough claucatuons & dates.
Reference notes: month = m. | days = d. | weeks = w.
Based on what I saw of the moons, S3a likely covers 2m., 1w., 3d.
This is based on a half moon (🌗) being roughly a week after a full moon (🌕 ) and Froggy Xmas has a definite waning crescent (🌘), meaning it’s a week+ after the third full moon since Anne’s been back. This rests in the assumption she returned on a full moon, hence why it’s 2m. — full moon#1 to full moon#2 = 1st “m.” & full moon#2 to full moon#3 = 2nd “m.”
Because this is so moon focused my numbers are moon based. That is 2m.1w.3d. = 68d. OR 29d + 29d. + 10(7+3)d.
68d. prior to 24 December = 17 October OR 17 Oct. + 14d. + 30d. (Nov.) + 24d. = 24 Dec.
145d. prior to 17 October = 25 May OR 25 May + 6d. + 30 (June) + 31 (July) + 31 (Aug.) + 30 (Sept.) + 17 = 17 Oct.
Sprig’s bday occurs soon after a half moon and it looks like a fat waning crescent (🌗🌘 << b/w that) which means it happens just over a month before 24 December OR 29d.2d. OR 31d., enough time for the waning crescent to actually thin out.
So...
25 May = Anne’s bday (25 May + 6d. + 30 + 31 + 31 + 30 + 17 = 17 Oct. || 06+30+31+31+30+17=145d.)
17 Oct. = return
24 Oct. = Catsitting
23 Nov. = Sprig’s bday (23 Nov + 7d. + 24d. = 24 Dec || 24+7=31d.)
It is very probable these are not as exact as someone else could make them. But it’s adequate for me.
Under the cut are old, old draft calculations before I actually checked Season 3a’s moon.
Now where it gets hazy is calculating just how many weeks Anne and the Plantars have been gone on Olivia and Yunan. It’s clearly been some time. My instinct is, at minimum, it’s been 5 weeks, more probable 6 weeks. (5 1/2 weeks or 39 days??)
Adventures in Catsitting is 3x03b and Olivia and Yunan is 3x07b, which puts 7 episodes (11 min.) or 3 episodes (22 min.) between them. I can’t imagine each 11 min. episode is a week apart but calculating 1 week between 2 min. episodes might make sense. (Not in a literal way, but ep. 3 occurs 1 week after the return. This is followed by ep. 4 (2 weeks after return), ep. 5 (3 weeks after return), ep. 6 (4 weeks after return). This ends on ep. 7 (5 weeks since return). All which falls roughly into my instinct of how much time has passed.
Should probably check and see what moon phrases have been visible in Season 3
So anyway, if we continue this cacluative method... we get Little Froggy Christmas at 7 weeks since return
25 Dec. minus 7 weeks = 6 Nov. as return date | 6 Nov. minus 145 days = 14 June birthday
Or if that, as I feel seems like too big of a gap than, Little Froggy Christmas at 6 weeks since return
25 Dec. minus 6 weeks = 13 Nov. as return date | 13 Nov. minus 145 days = 21 June birthday
Unlikely? Little Froggy Christmas at 5 weeks since return
25 Dec. minus 5 weeks = 20 Nov. as return date | 20 Nov. minus 145 days = 28 June birthday
