Shang Tsung x Witch Reader: I've Changed

Context: After finally escaping the void, Shang slips from supervision briefly to meet and request the help of an old friend. (Shaky ass friendship ngl) ~~~~~~~~~~~~ The old wooden clock on the wall ticks, filling the only sound in the empty shop. The short hand lines with the tenth hour, making you relieved to flip your sign close. Another easy day done at your little potion store. Despite the little shack being a bit older and you get few customers each day, you were always proud of your progress.

You were proud to say you changed, once a typical barbaric witch, anew to a positive person. You stopped damning people with cruel spells and toxic potions, now you sold mostly healing/soothing ones, along giving spare lessons to those who wish to learn witchcraft. Sometimes, it's the other way around. There's always new things to learn.

Sweeping the dust off the creaking floorboards, you were startled as you were about to trip over a black ball of fur. "Oh- Raven! Jeez, I didn't see you." A meow was in response, your kitten peeking up at you, the only eye he has shining.

Gently you shooed him away so you could finish sweeping. "I'll give you a snack once I'm done, go on now." You tapped his bottom and chuckle when he runs off.

The welcome chimes of your door ring, abruptly distracting you. "Store's closed!" You groan out. Ugh, can't they see the sign? You kept your thoughts to yourself.

Slow footsteps sounded closer to you. "My, just look at you." That voice! You peer up to see an old face, literally and figuratively. Your hand released the ratchet broom, letting it hit the floor. You felt some sort of nostalgia, yet confusion. "Shang Tsung? All these years... where have you been?" You step closer to him.

The old man explains. His disappearance was caused by the Titaness Kronika after having no use for him any longer, casted outside the realms in some prison. All those years in his absence, you missed him prior to your change, but now he's here. The sorcerer grabs your hand, kissing it gently. One of his ways on showing affection to you when you both were still a duo of despair. "You've aged well." He comments.

Now, he focuses on the old shop. "So while I was missing, you put your devotion into this worn down hut?" The sorcerer asks. You can hear the hidden mockery in his voice. He looks at the potions on the shelves, and you knew he would find them comical. None of them were labelled poison or dangerous, all such themed beneficial items. Part of him was worried you would go soft.

"Yeah, business is well." You state, defending your dignity. "The store's closed, and I still have errands tonight, so I can't quite catch up with you at the mome-"

"I came here for your help, Y/n." Shang Tsung interrupts. Picking up a pinkish elixir, he glances at you with tease. "Love potions?"

"That's for serotonin releases." You remove the bottle from his distrustful hands. You knew he's joking, but it's distasteful. "Love potions are vile. It's no better than going to a bar and spiking someone's drink." You explain in disgust, yet Shang still carries his smirk.

He hasn't changed, of course. I miss him, but I need him to leave. "What do you need?"

"I need your spells, your power, Y/n. The ones that always brought great suffering to those. But great amusement to us." He rubs his gray beard as he requests apathetically. "I plan to keep working with Raiden and Fujin up to Kronika's Keep. If everything goes as my plan, I can rule over many worlds. We can rule over many worlds."

"No." You shake your head immediately. "I'm past all of that. I use my powers and knowledge for good now and I hope that is something you respect. Feel free to do whatever you like, but count me out."

The man is unsurprise, but presses on with you. "Changed for the better? What happened to you?"

"I found faith in the Elder Gods." You shrug. "Along with that, I feel disgusted with my former self. Not that you'd get it, but all those people we hurt..." You cringed and turn away from him in utter shame.

"I assume you're disgusted with me too?" Shang asks.

"Well, yeah, but it's not like you'd stop. And I can't stop you neither."

He agrees with you. Harming others was like his number one hobby other than evil schemes. But if you really have a change in heart, he wouldn't force you. "It saddens me to see that wicked heart turn gold. Oh well. When I get Kronika's throne to myself, I'll have your place beside me - if you want." He offers, circling you with his charming glance. You gave him an annoyed look like he didn't actually heed you.

"You don't have to hurt anyone." He raises his hands. "But you could end up the best enchantress across universes, or better yet, a titaness beside me."

"No, sorcerer." You sigh and deny him again. "I'm happy here. You're my friend, but I don't think I'd be comfortable on the side of a villain. It's fine enough if I just focus on my own thing."

"Very well." He steps back and bows. "I shall be going now before someone notices my disappearance. After my goals, I will return to you just for friendly measures. We didn't speak for a long period after all."

"Okay." A huge part of you wasn't rooting for it, but you were fine with chatting with a friend time to time. "And if you don't and end up fading out of existence, it was always nice having you - minus the malicious activities."

"Likewise, my friend. You were always a fantastic woman." ~~~~~~~~~~~~ A/N for both Wattpad/Tumblr. Mostly just a vent but:

1. I feel the writer's block coming :') future writings are expected to have less quality as I'm running out of ideas and motivation. I literally had to go back to posting every 6 days instead of 3 so I don't end up running out of posts.

Not trying to pick at anyone but there's 2 places on both Wattpad + Tumblr that says I'm not doing request, yet people will still request a fic. I admit, I will leave those on read until they message me more times which makes me more annoyed.

Ok I love Lucifer's fight with Adam like KICK HIS ASS WHOOOO

But I was highkey looking forward to Charlie finally going sicko mode, I was HOPING they wouldn't do what they did, but it was exactly what I was expecting.

The fight scene was... ok. But it was so anime and so predictable that it was boring after a few minutes (to me). I hate that they couldn't leave a joke out for a couple of minutes. Like this was a final battle, the showdown to show that Hell wasn't going to take shit anymore from the angels. I wanted more class to it, more emotion, I wanted Charlie to finally show what she can do and at least get a couple of good hits in before Adam took the upper hand again. I wanted tension of who was going to die, I wanted the angels to eventually get the upperhand to create tension that this act against the angels probably wasn't going to work, Sir Pentious dies in a more dramatic way that feels more emotional than comical. Then Charlie goes sick mode, gets some good hits in, but Adam is the first man and has an angelic suit on or some shit eventually gets the upperhand again THAN Lucifer could've came in and saved the day.

The only hightlights to the fight for me is Alastor vs Adam and Vaggie vs Lute. I was not expecting Alastor to lose like he did, I was expecting him to win ngl but they did a fantastic job showing us that he isn't all that powerful like he likes to pretend which gave me SO MUCH EMOTION. It was so sick with the radio effect going away when his staff broke, like AHHHHH.

Vaggie's battle was cool too, wish it was longer and wish she got her wings again during it. There is a lot about Vaggie that should be better and the writers are screwing her over. She could be my fave character if they just took the time with her to give her a proper arc.

This was very ranty but I don't care.

One thing I will add to this is that Charlie may be a sheltered princess but she IS the princess of Hell. The Fucking Daughter of Lucifer and the FIRST woman. She is POWERFUL AS FUCK and the only thing she had to show for it is some parlor tricks and a trident??? We saw Lucifer's full demon mode but barely got to see Charlie's. It pisses me off so much that they did that to her. Sure you can say that it's because she barely has any fighting experience, is a passive person, never needed to fight because why the fuck would you fight Lucifer's daughter??? But still!!! If you wanted it to come off like "she may have barely any experience but she is trying" then show that throughout the show!!! Show that she really doesn't know how to fight but she is willing to try for her friends!! They better fucking show us her potential in the next season or I will lose it!

If this is suppose to be a show centered around the female characters then Vizie really fucked up with that final fight scene. It was disappointing to me how Charlie, Vaggie and even Lute and Carmilla are being treated throughout the show. Granted Charlie is getting some character development but why not show that during the final fight?! Show how this naive princess of hell who hates conflict is willing to put everything on the line for her family and her people, even her life!!

So like one of my ideas I posted earlier has been getting hyped up, and low key thinking about writing that idea but I’m currently working on another one that I sort of just want people to get excited about with me 🥺

Five Times The Protector became the sheep + the moment Steve became more then just one of Eddie’s little sheep

So I’ve been seeing a lot of content where Eddie is the one to adopt Steve into his group. Don’t get me wrong, I love that idea a lot! (I’ve inhaled a lot of one shots with that concept) but in my head I wanted it to be reversed.

What if Steve Harrington “adopts” Eddie into his life. Content with just doing the most mundane things and wearing the softest sweaters Steve doesn’t mind letting Eddie into his life like this. Just sassy Steve bitching at Eddie’s ex friends (who went to band practice when their friend was literally on the run, and didn’t seem to worried) Steve teaching Eddie how to fold clothing, how to bake or cook, how to crotchet (steve makes a small bat for Eddie where the head pops off in reference to Ozzy, Eddie loves it) Also Steve reads a lot of Eddie’s writing, because lets be honest Steve isn’t stupid. He probably does enjoy reading comic books with Dustin and most likely used to read Nancy’s articles even though he didn’t care for them. Also just Steve being steve? Goofing around with Eddie, making him laugh, helping him bandage his scars up (which I’m writing to not be as bad as they were in the show) there is a lot of scenarios that I’m thinking of for this but then Steve Harrington is taken aback when Eddie returns everything back to him with the same amount of care or more.

Eddie who forces Steve to come over for dinner at the trailer, who bandages him up, who forces Steve to share his interests (Eddie admits numerous times he’s only looking at the football players asses) Eddie hugging Steve unprompted, smoking together in his trailer, because this isn’t just a one sided thing happening. It’s a mutual thing that has been happening for weeks now and no one is seeing it. Eddie has been working on making more friends, better friends but that’s a tad difficult which means all of the energy he has to give is all given to Steve.

(Like I’m almost done with the first part and ngl, I’m having so much fun writing it that I can’t wait to share it with everyone 🥺 the title is a work in process though)

A/N: NGL I am weirdly in love with him, he's silly and these are probably ooc.

Edit: Added one new (long) headcanon (that's based IN CANON THO !!!)

On Base:

- Oh my gosh the PDA, he doesn't caaareee. He's got an arm around you at all times that you're nearby.

- Non-stop talks to you or Ghost through the comms unless he *has* to be silent.

- Probably follows you around the base cos he's clingy.

- Tries to show off around you all the time (whether it be getting a good shot or even trying to clear a house quicker than he already does.)

- The guys making jokes about how he acts all the time.

- Boasts about your accomplishments no matter what they're for ("yeah? well, have you seen how great y/n is at-")

Off Base:

- Cuddly as hell, if you're laying in bed or sitting on the couch he'll try to lay next to you or on you.

- Doesn't know how to cook and probably should not be allowed to ;;

- He probably talks about wanting to get a pet with you but knows he can't really because you're both gone so often.

- "Saturdays are for the boys" type motherfucker, he won't stop you from coming along with him and the rest of the 141 and he will obviously try to pay attention to you but he may be distracted by watching football (uk not us.)

- Would show you off and talk about you to ANYONE ("have you met my partner? they're amazing.")

- Keeps a photo of you and him in his wallet AND as his phones background. he also probably likes taking lots of pictures of you and posting them on his social media.

- On the topic of photos and social media, he would absolutely send you pics of himself after the gym and if you work out, he'll be happy to bring you along (totally will not be super excited even if you work out on the complete opposite side of the gym to him.)

In General:

- Soap is like a puppy, he loves you a lot and he has no understanding of personal space.

- Leaves hickeys anywhere you allow him, he doesn't care if the others notice them or if they need to be covered by makeup.

- Randomly shows you memes or tiktoks that he sees that remind him of you or that he thinks would make you laugh.

- If ya'll get into a fight and he makes you upset he'll leave you a little note telling you he's sorry and that he loves you right next to a cute stuffed animal.

- Definitely asks Price for relationship advice, he's not inexperienced but he is perhaps a tiny bit afraid of doing something wrong without realizing it ("what should we do for dates?" "what if they don't like this?" and more questions that Price sometimes can't answer.)

- Soap will try to get interested in something you like even if it's something that seems really strange for him to like.

- Picks up phrases and terms you use (bro def has ADHD and his ass cannot help but mirror you lmao)

- Soap loves to draw, it gives him something to focus on for a while. Whenever you're distracted doing something he likes to pull out his journal/sketchbook and just draw you, sometimes he'll show you the drawings he did which have a gritty comic style (think similar to Gerard Ways art style,) but other times he likes to keep them to himself because he gets a bit embarrassed by how frequently he draws you but he just can't help it!

All my Eggman x Fang concepts are very ns4w with it being a gay4pay situation where Fang will accept Eggman's advances with the promise of money. But instead of Eggman treating them like favors Fang does for him on command for that purpose alone, he acts like it's a "reward" for Fang instead

He's like "look at how generous I am! you get paid and the lucky chance to experience me~" And Fang is like "wtf gay this isn't what I signed up for" and tries to act disgusted when he kisses him and other things but there's a blush in his cheeks and he's very flustered by the strange feelings he has hehe

Eventually it gets to the point that after a successful mission, Eggman bends over and presents his ass to him as his "reward" and Fang is like "when I said that I'm out for booty I meant money and treasure!" Really Eggman had secretly wanted this from the start and had planned for it to get here.

But who could possibly resist the opportunity to play with such a big round thick booty like his? 😍 Fang certainly can't, so Eggman will get exactly what he wants and then try to pass it off as such a generous extra reward after lol. Oh yeah I have actually seen art exactly along the lines of this with them 👀

I should finally finish this one concept I have and put it on my ns4w blog 🥴 Here's a little mostly sfw preview:

Fang sees his job as very serious business despite being a goofy klutz, he tries his best and will do anything for his pay. Eggman is showing obvious interest in him from the start with the way he blatantly checks him out whenever he's near and he hypes him up like in the Fang's Big Break comic (that was pretty gay ngl) but Fang just takes it as him trying to charm him to keep him working with him.

After Fang has found and captured Trip to make her work with them, Eggman says he wants to give Fang an early reward and that he needs to sit in his Egg Mobile for him to give it to him. He's confused but jumps in and Eggman grabs his back and pushes him down onto the space of the seat between his legs, so he's wedged between the man's big round soft belly and the dashboard.

Eggman has a big sly smirk on his face and puts his hand under Fang's chin to tilt his up head up, then quickly steals a kiss on the lips. Fang reacts with great shock, and tries to look appalled and disgusted by screwing up his nose and sticking his tongue out because wtf that's gay. But there's a faint blush in his cheeks. He's about to ask what kind of a reward that was but Eggman suddenly grabs his butt and squeezes it.

He reminds him that they made a deal, he'll pay him well if he does everything he says. Fang didn't expect it to get gay as fuck but he has to do it now. He'll do anything for his pay, is what he tells himself. He's grumpy and huffs, rolling his eyes with a "fine!" He's all flustered but Eggman finds it amusing. Fang half hopes that it just means letting him kiss and grope him occasionally but he should know it won't stop there.

- And it doesn't because it all gets very ns4w from there so it'll have to go on my blog for that when it's done lol

Omg yesssss!! The friendship with Deadpool is so beautiful to read and I LOVE Wade but let’s be real he’s not someone you want around your kids lmao. He’s not really a danger to them but not many people stick around him long enough to KNOW that info so I can totally see Akihiro going apeshit when he discovers Deadpool randomly hanging out in Gabby’s room with her after his 99th break in to Krakoa especially since he’s done some very “suspicious” no go adult things before like breaking into Evans room and giving him porn mags??? Like come on Wade Jesus Christ pal and the whole relationship with Vanessa who was described as a teenager, even tho he technically wouldn’t have know this till later on, it’s still a little iffy especially to a very overprotective sibling with a sketchy past with abuse themselves. We the readers know that’s not Deadpool but most comic characters aren’t pretty fond of him and don’t know that. It would be an epic read ngl, a little stabby but I think Akihiro could probably come around to have DP looking out for Gabby, out of all of them she definitely needs to company and semi-good direction the most especially if he learns about him having a kid because I NEEED more Ellie content!!! Let Wade be a good dad!!! Marvel pls give my loves a break!! Also Ellie & Gabby would be bffs for life. (Pretty sure Akihiro has worked with Deadpool before & Laura and Gabby have been there but let’s just have fun with it 😂)

Oh God, the porn he gave Evan hahaha He's definitely a dark-gray character for sure! I agree Akihiro would go ape-shit over it (can you imagine the immediate fight that would happen - no words, Akihiro just slides off his fancy suit coat and kicks straight ass. Deadpool's mouth makes it 10,000x worse. He's beaten to a pulp. Gabby in the background trying to calm them, ultimately giving up.) You know what would be funny, is they're kind of similar in terms of moral compasses, so it would almost be like the pot calling the kettle black - Akihiro, for valid reasons, would feel like it's too inappropriate for Gabby to befriend a grown man, and especially a grown man who has a highly suspicious past (especially the bit about Vanessa). BUUUUUT.... maybe Deadpool would also feel like he has to protect Gabby some from Akihiro due to his past, like with the whole Evan thing, and with kidnapping Zach too. Gabby would definitely be the mediator there lol through the bloodshed and shouting matches, they will eventually realize they both just wanna keep Gabby safe and eventually form a deranged alliance to kill anyone who hurts her xD I would also LOVE to see Gabby friends with Ellie!! Ellie, and Valeria. Gabby and Ellie would be raising absolute hell all the time. Maybe Valeria's the one to get them out of trouble (I don't know much about her, other than when Laura babysat them, so I could be entirely wrong about that hc). This is so much fun :D

I am silly and love this au and I'm glad someone wants to hear me talk about it >:33333OKAY SO SO SO SO In this timeline, there's also a hidden city underneath Tokyo - since Tokyo was one of the bigger cities in Japan at the time ( there's also one underneath the old capital, but it's gotten smaller due to yokai moving to Tokyo).

Draxum is sort of same situation as canon, he's a scientist, he is silly etc etc. Rather than a prophecy though, Draxum (along with lots of other yokai) heard the stirrings of war in the 20s and 30s and decided ' I'm gonna make some super soldiers just in case the human war becomes the yokai's war too '. Captain America type beat. So he illegally made these four mutant turtles and the yokai council did NOT like that at ALL so they have a warrant out for his arrestr (v similar to rise ) and basically Draxum dropped those guys off far, far away from Tokyo and just hoped for the best. I haven't decided if he makes any sort of comeback, I wanna say no because the nature of the au and all but who knows :3333

Yes! So Yoshi acutally is one of the youngest captain's of the navy - which btw fun fact!! After WWI, Britain stepped in and helped Japan build their Navy up a bit since they didn't really have on! So Yoshi ends up being pretty decently ranked while also being fairly young. It helps that he comes from somewhat of a military family, though I haven't really gone too far on his fam's backstory just yet.

He actually ended up being called for duty because Japan was entering WWII, so he just literally leaves to go back to his original posting and all that. He did not end up telling any of the kids except Raph about it because he wanted to protect them but it kinda ends up biting him in the ass later :(

Yoshi himself never actually goes by the name Splinter, but the yokai villagers call him that because they just hate humans ( more on that later, I've actually got a comic for that :D)

The farm is actually pretty far from Tokyo, it's in Northern Japan! They live in the mountains near Aomori prefecture, probably somewhat near Lake Towada but not near enough that there is regular human traffic. The farm itself is up on a nice big hill, so typically they don't have to hide too much. They live sort of in a human farming community, but the neighbors are 15-30 minutes down the road so they truly don't have to hide too often. Yoshi's family owns the land/farmhouse they live in so they don't have to deal with trespassing and all that either.

So the yokai village is surrounded by a huge huge foret, it's kind of like a valley in the middle of the forest that was cleared by Yuichi's family like wayyyy way back. It's only hidden by the forest, I think Yoshi may have found it because of stories talking about a yokai village or just by chance. The boys first went when they were very very very young (with Yoshi) So they all know the way pretty easily!

Humans don't know if it/visit the village but I think there are definitely some stories going around.

The yokai welcome the turtles, they believe they are yokai as well ( the boys also think they are yokai), however Yoshi is not entirely welcome. The village really does not trust him and they sort of pity the boys for 'having to live with him'.

I actually have a comic for their first meeting: here. they're just frenemies because they didn't exactly like each other upon first meeting, plus Leo knows Yuichi doesn't like Yoshi and all that. However, Leo likes spending time with Yuicihi and considers him his best friend! They have a complicated friendship and also Leo might just have a crush on him later :3

Leo is a lot more trustworthy of other people in this au, probably because of the nature of how Yoshi found them and all. Raph is the more suspicious one of the group. Leo also grew up around the yokai village so he finds it a very nice, friendly place!

they don't know any martial arts, have mystic powers or do any training. Truly their lives are just ' farm, have fun and enjoy life as it is'. Plot wise, they all have their own goals and perception of their life. They all have complicated feelings about Yoshi not being around, about the war ( whn they learn about it) and about their futures. They don't really have any destiny to speak of (except for what Draxum wanted for them). They also don't know anything about their family - Yoshi has kept it from them on purpose because he doesn't want what remains of his family to find out about them. He also had a wife that passed away and they don't know anything about her

Hello. New account here. Some time back in 2020-2021 someone introduced me to Mage Errant. I knew nothing about progression fantasy but I took to the series like fish to water. I loved the exploration of magic and every type of it that could be done in the setting, I loved the adventures, most of all I loved the camaraderie and true found family elements.

My ask is mostly this. Your books have been representative of your socialist beliefs especially at the end in Last Echo of the Lord of The Bells, based on that what advice do you have for writers who want to write fantasy that's representative of people in today's social climate? Also, what advice do you have on avoiding appropriating BIPOC struggles and resistance in writing when writing BIPOC characters (that is, avoiding white saviourism and propagandized "all resistance fighters are terrorists" themes) especially when it comes to a setting of resisting systems of oppression and colonial rule?

I'm really glad you enjoyed Mage Errant, that's great to hear! And that my socialism came through well! (Though I do use a few anarchist tools of analysis too, their tools are great.) As for your ask... first off, gonna link you to this fantastic essay by Cory Doctorow ( @mostlysignssomeportents ) https://locusmag.com/2020/05/cory-doctorow-rules-for-writers/. It's what he sent me when I emailed him asking if he had any advice for combining activism with fiction a few years back, and though short, it was deeply useful. (I like to paraphrase it as "the rules exist not to tell you what you can't do, but what is harder to do.")

What I'm getting at is that if you want to get good at writing representative fantasy, it's gonna be a ton of hard work and practice. There's no right answer here, just learning to execute it well. That said, I do have a few more specific tips as well, because specific tips are always nice. Though... fair warning, it's a lot of work.

Read history. No, more history. MORE. Seriously, you want to really nail this, I recommend that you have at least the equivalent of a university history minor. And that's the bare minimum.

Study politics and political philosophy. More reading, woo! Dive hard into James C Scott, Naomi Klein, David Graeber, Howard Zinn, Rebecca Solnit, maybe even some Foucault. (If you've got the grit to dive into old-school leftist theory, more power to you, but ngl, I struggle with that stuff.) And find voices from the communities and peoples you're learning about, if at all possible!

Spend some time exploring art history on both sides of colonial divides. You don't need to go super hard on this one, but get an idea of what sort of art oppressors and oppressed were producing at, because, in spite of, in denial of, and for one another. Learning the facts is one thing, but learning the feeling? The art's worth its weight in gold.

Read and watch after-the-fact mythmaking- from both sides. Movies, comics, shows, whatever! I'm personally biased towards myths from the oppressed/resistors, but myths from the oppressors after the fact are valuable too. Understanding the ways in which people talk about these events decades or more later, how they choose what to and to not remember is valuable! And there's no one standard way people choose to frame these issues. There is, for instance, surprisingly little rancor in Vietnam towards America these days. (I once asked my wife- who is Vietnamese born and raised- about it, and her response was "of course we don't resent Americans, we kicked your ass!" Which, fair!)

Study relevant economics. There's a TON of texts about colonial economics out there- the aforementioned David Graeber goes heavily into it in Debt: The First 5000 Years. Thomas Piketty touches on it, the historian John Keay deals heavily with it, etc. And ELINOR OSTROM. Hell yes Elinor Ostrom. There's a reason she's one of the few empirical economists to win the "Nobel" in Economics, despite the field's resistance to empiricism, leftists, and field research. Governing the Commons is just that damn brilliant. Amazing examination of how communities use and maintain their shared resources without government oversight, colonial or otherwise.

(You'll notice a LOT of overlap between the history, economics, and political philosophy covering these topics- honestly, many of the best authors working in these fields could be shuffled between the categories freely.)

Study the harmful tropes you want to watch out for. Easier to spot the pitfalls if you're looking for them. Sounds like you're already on the right track there!

Find beta/sensitivity readers with relevant experience. (And, you know, pay them. Either in kind- lotta writers out there willing to trade beta reads- or in cash.) You want to do a good job? You're gonna have to do a ton of work, no way around it. And some even more specific writing tips:

Allow oppressed peoples in your books to be bastards. Don't valorize anyone, let everyone in your books just be people. Flawed, messy people with conflicting values.

Do your best to introduce a sense of complexity in the history of both cultures before oppression.

Greed as a motive is your friend. It's so easy to make believable colonial oppressors with a bit of greed.

Portray the oppressors using the exact harmful tropes you're looking to avoid as propaganda. This one's a bit risky, of course, if you execute it improperly it can seem like promotion of the harmful trope, but if you pull it off successfully, it's a fantastic way to examine and avoid the trope. It's basically an advanced level of lampshading. (Lord, I love lampshading as an author.)

omg sorry your batman post got me thinking cos comics used to be a big hyperfixation i had when i was younger but let me just say it would 100% be Cass Cain (Batgirl also called Black Bat) Wednesday and Stephanie Brown (Also takes the mantle of Batgirl but is also called Spoiler) Enid Let me explain if no comics knowledge but like Black Bat -> Daughter of assassins and raised to be the worlds greatest assassin, expert martial artist & reader of body language but extremly limited social skills, has an extreme sense of justice and canonically a better fighter and more skilled than batman She, similarly to Wednesday also has died and come back to life once, and is the apple of her adopted dad's (Bruce Wayne aka Batman) Eye Main costume is a almost entirely black suit baring the signature yellow bat symbol , and a cowl that covers the entire face with a stich pattern on the mouth Very much in contrast to her best friend & Cass's first ever friend ( and sometimes more in certain comics) Spoiler, who's signature outfit is a glaringly colourful bright purple outfit! Has a lot of parental issues with her dad being abusive and a villian, constantly struggling with issues of self worth and wondering if she's good enough while outwardly portraying a very happy go lucky demenor Their inital history started off rocky with Black Bat being stand offish to Spoiler but slowly they become friends and Spoiler gets Black Bat to open up, eventually becoming vigillante partners and working together seamlessly despite the fact that some ppl think they shouldn't "Because we work. We shouldn't, but we do" God you've got this au spinning in my mind now, the Cassandra Cain stitched mouth outfit would be almost perfect for a Wednesday vigilante -🐅

I'm a 26 year old man, Gay, and I work as a mailman, tying to save up for college. I'm 5'8, wear glasses, brownish red shaggy hair, some stubble.

"Oh great! Hi! Welcome to the Vill-Inn. I'm so glad you're here and not at all annoyed because if you hadn't showed up I was going to steal your seat! Enjoy your meal, I guess."

A strange welcome, but when you get to your table, you realise why the wait staff might have been planning on swooping in and stealing your date. Sitting across from you is a mass of hulking muscles attached to a stoney, but handsome, face.

"I am... well, most people call me Bane."

He offers you his hand and you take it, surprised by how gentle the hold is, though it's clear he's making a very conscious effort to withhold his strength. Bane seems shy, and really self-conscious, and you suppose you would too if you were bigger and taller than everyone around you. But he is polite, and surprisingly sweet.

The first thing he says to you, beyond introductions, is how much he likes your glasses. It's clear that he's been thinking of a compliment that isn't invasive, or that could backfire. You can tell how anxious he is, being very anxious yourself, so you try and ease up the tension, saying thank you, apologising for being a bit awkward, giving the whole 'I'm very anxious' spiel.

"Oh. That's... me too. I suppose we can be anxious together, si?"

Bane asks how you ended up on a blind date, and you explain that you felt like meeting someone new. You usually find it difficult, given that you're quite cautious and have trust issues, but that you figured it couldn't do you any harm. And this seems to resonate with him.

"I don't have many friends, or other relationships. Trust is a difficult thing to come by."

As he opens up, you realise you both have a lot more in common than you even could have realised. Both clumsy, although for Bane it comes with his size and strength, both a little bit lacking in the self-confidence department when it comes to intelligence. And you can see him breaking into a small smile when you tell him that you hate half-assing anything.

"I can be relentless too. Although... I mean, I won't push you for a second date... unless you want to... have one?"

You definitely do, and you're even more excited when he asks if you'll go bird-watching with him. That way, you can show off your photography skills. He might describe himself as dense, but he's picked up on everything you've said over the evening, unable to focus on anything but you. A very good sign.

I'll preface this with that this continues off of my rewrite AU ideas, Radio Demon's Identity-is-a-secret/unknown AU and wing amputee, peryton!Alastor who's been in survival (stressy) mode since his ass dropped into hell decades ago (is it bad that I kinda want Hell time and Earth time to have time dilation? 1:1 time ratio's kinda boring ngl).

For your consideration: Transman Alastor. He doesn't have physical antlers, they'd be shadow constructs and he can change their size and shape generally however he wants if he's got the magic/energy for it. I'm thinking of his powers being more shadow as well as radio-based (god his canon powers, design and motifs are so goddamn overcrowded, radio, shadows, eldritch-in-the-lovecraftian-sense, AND voodoo? holy fuck)? And maybe some shadow realm hammerspace for travel convenience (personal meat freezer and travel bag anybody?)? He'd be the kinda fellow who's always on the move, never stays in one place too long or too often and once a place's "safety" in his mind has been even partially-compromised he won't return to it for quite some time.

Also I had the design-idea of even replacing the black hairtips from canon with something like, bits of shadow crawling up his hair. Because he doesn't cast a shadow the normal way? He would keep his shadow off the ground, possibly hidden under his clothes, basically hugging himself tight (it could even help with holding himself upright whenever he's injured or weak/tired), leave no trace for predators to follow or tells for prey to see. Hell, maybe the shadow antlers are his shadow's hands but transformed and warped into different shapes? Can also resemble Radio Wireframe antennae or something sometimes?

And because I have nowhere else to put it, but, Alastor with the ability to steal voices and stories of people he kills in a certain way (certain criteria?) or something? Somethingsomething radio stuff? Idk how the radio and how sound design works, even with 30s or 30s adjacent tech, I feel like there's flavor to be found there of him being able to throw his (or someone else's) voice (or multiple voices). I can imagine him doing a wounded gazelle gambit but with voice throwing to lure a target somewhere more isolated.

I'm really in love with the idea of themes of Alastor being equal parts Hunter and Hunted, both in his behaviors and design. Shadows and radio, mostly heard, and if you DO see him, you either never knew he was there or it's too late (for you). Predator and Prey and awfully aware of it, the preference of low-risk moderate-reward ventures warring with that prey instinct that is equal parts hide/run away and beat the ever-loving shit out of that thing that looked at you vaguely threateningly. And it's not like these instincts come specifically from just, dying and his new form in Hell, but also based off of either experiences or exaggerated bits of Alastor's personality and the magic that formed his Hell-body going off of that or something idk.

Also, yanno another thing that could be interesting? What if in his life on Earth, he never even got to be on the radio? And the closest he ever got was being one of the studio crew or staff, or his 'crimes' being reported/talked bout on air (I'm kinda leaning more and more vigilante killer with Alastor, to tie further with the comic). But maybe he collected radios and tried making his own setup (a lot harder in the 1930s I'd imagine), practiced his voice and what his show would be like, but never got to be on the air no matter how hard he worked or tried, a dream forever unrealized (until Hell).

Random more down to earth (hah) stuff about my version of Alastor, besides cooking, hunting/tracking, and butchering/dressing down kills (whatever they may be), I could imagine him liking to sew or make clothes, something he could've done with his mother maybe? Or maybe he's just picked up some things from some trades he's worked in his life back on Earth when he was trying to work up into the radio business. Kinda a jack of several trades. Also this Alastor would drink his (at least, his version of) Respect Women juice, and Vaggie isn't excluded from this either (like I could imagine him annoying her a bit, but no ass slappage like canon, sorry not sorry). Also wing amputee things but, chronic residual limb pain? Or burns too, I haven't decided (sorry not sorry, I like my whump what can I say).

Also when trying to pitch the Radio Demon's deal to Charlie, Charlie can tell that Alastor himself was lying about Something, just not about what because idk I would imagine that everybody in Hell (and on Earth too) lies about things, even normal regular things. Charlie isn't that stupid, she's lived in Hell her entire life. Also okay, I really like the idea of her doing this entire plan all because she just wants Vaggie (can I rename her Aggie or something, pls) to be safe in Heaven and has no idea if this could work, they don't even know by what measure Heaven accepts people, much less condemned sinners ffs.

I would imagine that Alastor himself would be 'sending reports' to the Radio Demon (lol) as he helps the Hotel run better or something, with the Radio Demon making a few 'appearances' over the radios that start to populate the Hasbeen Hotel after the (informal?) alliance is started. There would be some mystery as to Why the Radio Demon wants to ally with this venture, because the boredom excused won't hold forever, and according to Niffty and Husk, Alastor has been in the Radio Demon's employ longer than they ever were, so who better to grill or watch for info? Any maybe, I would say that out of all his (relatively few, compared to other Sinners in the weight class that everyone assumes the Radio Demon is in) contracts, he likes Husk and Niffty the best (I mean, they've actually met Alastor as himself enough to sorta know him, even if they don't know he's the Radio Demon either, so that could say a lot). Idk what to do with his relationship to Rosie rn.

Loving all this blether! The part about Alastor drinking his respect women juice jumped out at me in particular, because I'm pretty sure Vivzie's under the impression that he already does. There's that comic where he saves a woman from being attacked and kills the guy who does it, but Vivzie also can't resist the urge to have him slap Vaggie on the ass because she thinks it's funny when characters are horrible to Vaggie.

A better writer would contrast the perfect gentleman Alastor thinks he is with the reality and also with Angel, who doesn't give a shit who he's rude to, but...Vivzie!

Hoo boy that's a lot! Well, if ya wanna mess with the bull, you'll get the horns. And by that I mean you'll get my serious and/or non-serious reaction to all of these so enjoy!

Vivia x Yakou - Ah yes, the og otp, ever since me and my boyfriend wanted to cosplay our respective favs before the game even released. Suffice to say were we ahead of the game on that one so we were pleasantly surprised it has some canon footing and it's simply sweet as hell! I personally love how this ship symbolizes that no matter how much you've lost, there's always something to gain and you still have the capacity to love.

Vivia x Worried Man - I won't lie this side quest completely caught me off-guard. My thought process went from 'aw he's in love' -> 'wait that's gay' -> 'WAIT THATS GAY WITH VIVIA' and I have never been the same since. It's pretty cute ngl, even if it's just a little side quest. Aaaaand then the rest of chapter 4 happened and I went right back to loving Viviakou, sorry Worried Man but you've got a lotta competition.

Vivia x Shinigami - Before the game released I theorized that Vivia could see Shinigami and I was so damn proud of myself to find out that I was right. Besides that, I always associated them as friends pre-release, but with chapter 4, their dynamic is very interesting. Vivia put her in her place throughout the entire labyrinth. He was more in control of the situation than she was cause he held more knowledge than any other assistant ever had before. He wasn't stuck in there with her, she was stuck in there with him. Anyways yeah I think they'd be platonic buddy ol' pals

Vivia x Fubuki - The 4-panel comic of them was adorable! I see them as friends but I can certainly see why people may view them in a more romantic light. They definitely paint each other's nails.

Vivia x Desuhiko - Another case of them being more like pals than a blossoming bromance. However, I do have a good platonic headcanon that Vivia knows how to play piano and has studied music theory as part of his endless reading escapades, so he'll sometimes help out Desuhiko when requested for assistance with practicing on his guitar. They're both very musically-inclined I know it in my heart.

Vivia x Halara - AKA the badasses. I don't view them as romantic personally, but I love them being the duo who kicks ass and takes names. Additionally, I'm sure Halara appreciates having a metaphorical cat around when they can't interact with actual cats.

Vivia x Yuma - Not uncommon for the protag to slip his way into every and all angles of ships, but I think this one works especially well. Yuma and Vivia have a very strong and well-written dynamic thanks to our lord and savior chapter 4; they develop alongside each other. It's just like Vivia said, they're accomplices, they have to fight for the truth together in order to clearly see eye-to-eye. We love short king with tall ghost guy! The appeal for this ship is very much apparent.

Vivia x Melami - I fought so hard for these two to interact and what did I get? Nothing! So, I wallow in my headcanons of them having a perfect partnership since their Fortes bounce off each other so well. Melami would absolutely despise Vivia's choice of 'clothing' though, she'd try to give him a makeover but he'd slip right out of her grasp before she could do anything.

Vivia x dying - As much as he adores the idea of death I don't think he's dying any time soon. The grim reaper plays hard to get.

Vivia x pillows - THE PAIRING HE DESERVES

Vivia x nobody - Privacy is very important, I'm sure he enjoys his time alone just as much as he's grateful for attention. It's a good balance!

...it's simply the most compelling, contrasting, fraught, potential-filled relationship ever written/depicted (i wish i was exaggerating).

I'm ngl, I typed this whole thing and then it got deleted. So I might not be able to fully do this a second time smh. But here we go.

Whenever i was bored/in the depths of my stony/marvel obsession, I would make a list in my head of all the reasons Steve and Tony were perfect for one another in case anyone disagreed with me. I don't think I can remember all the reasons, but I'm gonna do my best (this mostly addresses their MCU depictions, since that's what I know best):

Their personalities are so complementary- steve is the more heart-on-his-sleeve, honest, dependable, disciplined, noble, street-smart, but also a bit naive, idealist and tony is the cynical, issues-with-authority, arrogant, sarcastic, hard-outer-shell, booksmart, realist. They're sooo different from one another, but at their core, they both want to make the world a better place and they both place more importance on others' lives over their own, altho their motivations come from diff places. It's hard for them to see that at first though bc they're both so stubborn and judge one another on superficial things. But when they do recognize it, they have so much respect for one another.

The age difference.............is hot! And here's why: you can make a case that either of them is actually older than the other... (iykyk) Tony has been awake & aging longer, but Steve was born in the 40s so... who really knows!?

Height difference.

Sexual experience difference (tony -> playboy, steve -> virgin??)

The banter. The Banter!!!

They both have daddy issues. Shared trauma, but also separate traumas that they can help each other through

And along with the daddy thing is the fact that Steve knew Tony's father?? And that Howard helped create/provide Steve's iconic shield? Their nickname game is so strong - Tony is always nicknaming Cap, which is a sign of affection from him (Rhodey, Pep, Happy). Also in the 616 universe, I think they called each other Winghead and Shellhead which ?!?! so cute.

There's a literal universe of comics where steve and a female version of tony/iron man are in love and get married...

Aaaaand I'm losing steam (especially after typing this a second time lmao). But all of this to say, I used to be a stucky shipper (as evidenced by my ao3 works), but then The Avengers (2012) came out and changed everything for me. There's just something about stony - the equal potential for them to destroy one another/complete one another - that is just... 🤌🏻 There's passion there.
