This Celtic holiday is one of the four major holidays. Samhain happens during the mid-way point between the Autumn and Winter Equinox. It is said that the veil to the spirit world is thin on the day of Samhain (October 31 to November 1)… so it is the perfect day to connect with spirit & ancestors.

Samhain was a time of harvesting summer crops and it is alleged that the Celtics may have spent the week leading up to October 31 indulging in their summer bounty (aka binge drinking and having huge feasts).

Introduction to traditional playing card fortune-telling

Naughty children, today I shall be your good Ukrainian grandmother teaching you how to read playing cards - or, this is your introduction post to this list of meanings.

Begin with taking a new deck of cards; once selected for telling fortunes, it must not be used for games. It has to contain thirty-six cards, thus, if a full deck, take out the Jokers and cards two to five.

While every card has its own meaning, they follow certain general guidelines. Cards are to be read in groupings, modifying each other’s meanings, so start your practice with pairs and groups of three. Traditionally, the King and the Queen of the suit of Hearts are used as significators.

♥️ Love, emotions, relationships, joy, family; air; timing: springtime, morning, hours to days

♦️ Money, material possessions, physical health; fire; timing: summer, daytime, days to weeks; people young, unmarried, wealthy, in good health

♣️ Legal matters, social status, achievements, learning; earth; timing: autumn, evening, weeks to months; people middle-aged, married, benevolent

♠️ Sorrow, selfishness, cruelty, vice and loud, drunken festivities; water; timing: winter, nighttime, years; people over 55, with power or status, hostile or selfish

Ace - initiation, sudden happening, a place or an item

6 - a path, a time frame

7 - conversation, first steps of a process

8 - meetings, development of the process

9 - an event, first results, difficulties can be resolved

10 - full development of a process, something of interest

Jacks - accidents, news, lack of expertise

Queens and Kings - people or states

Yes! This one has been sitting in my inbox for awhile, I’ve been meaning to get around to it lol

Akko is very active when she’s on the stage! She’s always moving, wether it’s moving in time to the beat or outright dancing.

Follows choreography v e r y loosely. She isn’t afraid to deviate from what’s been asked. Sometimes it’s great and othertimes it’s funny. She rolls with it no matter the outcome.

In the beginning she had a super hard time with tripping over wires on the stage, or even nothing at all. She’s still a bit klutzy, but not as bad as before.

She mostly sticks to the musical aspect of her stardom, she collabs a lot with Amanda!

Croix and Chariot are her co-managers, both started out as child stars in the industry and eventually left to guide other young kids.

She has been in a really bad soap opera as a guest character.

Is going to star in an episodic show about going to a school of Witchchraft in England ;)

Her vocals are best suited to Power and Pop songs! Once in a while she can swing a slow song.

Plays the ukelele and recorder

Had a vine channel, vines were mostly of her and Amanda doing dumb things.

Will hack into her own twitter and post things that aren’t checked by the PR of the studio she works for. Croix encourages this.

Her fan base calls themselves Akkoites. She hates the name with a passion.

What’s in a name? (Rue)

So what is a rue, exactly? Well, two things - it’s a little yellow flower, and it’s also a verb meaning, all too fittingly, regret, as in “you’ll rue the day!”

Rue the flower is native to the Balkan Peninsula in south-eastern Europe. It can be used in cooking, but rather sparingly, due to its bitter taste and the gastronomic discomfort it can cause in some people. Skin exposure to rue and derivatives of it can cause severe blisters.

So, what’s this again about rue symbolizing regret? Rue has a long history of being used as a symbol in Shakespeare’s works, not only symbolizing regret but also adultery. Most interestingly, rue was one of the flowers given by the mad Ophelia to Gertrude - she also keeps some for herself. Ophelia suffers bitter regret from her relationship with Hamlet, not unlike Rue with Mytho at the end of season two.

In comparison to its rather scandalous implications with Shakespeare, rue is a national herb of Lithuania, where it is associated with virginity and maidenhood. An interesting flip of sides, not unlike Kraehe’s persona versus Rue’s.

Lastly, rue has also been used for witchchraft and various rituals since ancient times. It is a common ingredient in Wiccan protection magic, and the Romans used it to protect against the evil eye.

Tldr; Rue’s name is chockful of symbolism that once again really shows how the creators of Princess Tutu did their work.
